Points of Interest & Landmarks
Inubosaki Lighthouse, a late 19th-century tower made of domestic bricks, stands as a symbol of sightseeing in Choshi. This chalky white Western-style lighthouse offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from its top, making it a must-see attraction. Designed by English architect Richard Henry Brunton, this historic and architectural monument has been designated as an Important Cultural Property and is one of only 16 in Japan.
Cash only at the ticket counter 😶 Climbing 99 steps up the stairs wasn't really challenging, but the wind was so strong that I almost dropped my phone from the balcony (and it's Nokia). I'm so honoured to have saved humanity once 😎 There's a cottage within the premise with a foghorn in place. Indeed, it sounds more like an air raid siren.
P. C — Google review
Nice view from the top and from around the lighthouse. There is a way to the rocky beach near the lighthouse, which is highly recommended.
Salman S — Google review
Beautiful place to see the pacific ocean, 99 steps climb needed if you want to get up of the lighthouse. Lots of people but I did not need to wait. There was a nice cafe, souvenir shop, some restaurants and a shack selling bbq seafood. They have 2 small museums to showcase the history of light house, how lighthouses work and various lighthouse across japan.
Ang C — Google review
Visiting, climbing, and taking photos in front of a lighthouse was one of my wishlists. And it came true at Inobusaki Lighthouse. The endless ocean, clear skies, a cool cafe, accompanied by delicious coffee and a slice of cake. This was a real healing and charming holiday.
Rose A — Google review
The place is very attractive. In order to climb to the top of the lighthouse, you need to use the stairs, that is, there is no elevator. At the top of the lighthouse there is a wonderful view of the ocean and the promenade. The only thing is a strong wind. Near the swing there is a cafe and a place for souvenirs. There is a miniature version of the customs officer with whom you can take a picture. On the 1st floor of the pendulum, there is a small museum that tells the story of its creation, there are models of ships.
Iryna V — Google review
Superb place to visit for a one day trip. Fees : 300 for adults, free for kids It’s a wonderful place to visit with rocky beach and a very small sandy beach. View is amazing . You need to climb around 106 reps to each ti the top of the light house, last few steps are very narrow. Food area near is good and reasonable, we ate at key cafe . Car parking is free. We went by Choshi line
Mugdha G — Google review
It’s very cooling up the lighthouse. It’s a nice view up there and I enjoyed the breeze. There’s no elevator up, so we have to climb 99 steps, which I feel was fine. The beach was nice too. We saw crabs and other creatures. Had fun exploring the beach.
Tawtan — Google review
Beautiful stop and great place to grab a beer after a long day of bike riding! It's a busy location though so expect a crowd. If you can find a bench or a soft spot on the ground you can take in the sights and the fresh ocean air. The lighthouse is a historic location and a great place to take some photos. Recommended stop for cyclists in the area.

Choshi Port Tower

Sights & Landmarks
Observation Decks & Towers
Choshi Port Tower is a modern twin-towered glass building offering panoramic 360-degree views of the bustling fishing port. The tower also features an exhibition area. In the vicinity, Ishigami Sake Brewery, established in 1844, boasts two historic stone warehouses designated as tangible cultural properties. The brewery's signature junmai sake, Choshi no Homare, is renowned for its full-bodied flavor with a hint of spiciness.
I came here for the All Japan Tower's stamp rally. This was very far in general and I didn't know if I was going to commit. Once at the station, I had to take a taxi (just under 2000 yen) to get here and I walked to Motochoshi station (Choshi Electric railway). Anyways, greeted by friendly staff! 2 memorial stamps on the bottom floor. 88 anime locations stamp and multilayer stamp at the top. Gorgeous view on a nice day.
Roger A — Google review
Believe or not, this is actually a nice sightseeing spot in the area. You can enjoy a 360° grandeur view from the area’s highest point, which is high enough to be awed especially around sunset time. The admission is just 420yen. What is pity are, though the staff are quite friendly and helpful, the opening hours are pretty limited and some lack of willingness for sightseeing business expansion. The entry cutoff at 5:00pm and get closed at 5:30 on my visit in January. There was no eatery open by the late afternoon even without a vending machine in the observatory, also, sorry to say the souvenir space on GF was rather mediocre, all while this unique shaped cute tower is standing as if being alone shiny but for waste. Maybe I should understand since there have been lots of reasons like being understaffed, budget issues or unsuccessful businesses history, putting aside bankrupt-free bureaucratic rigidity… but I will visit here again another time soon at peak hours on a holiday.
Xiro ( — Google review
Night visiting is so fantastic. But, if you access here by car, you have to pay attention narrow way in the suburb area for driving.

Very nice tower for the stamp book.
Chris S — Google review
I've heard the view from the top is great but sadly didn't have time to go inside. This was a stop on a cycling tour so we were moving fast. Great photo opportunity though and worth a stop if you have a bit more time.
Cory S — Google review
This is port tower and nice view point to see the port and see. Also you can see the city. I really liked it. It’s 57mt high. I used the binocular there and watched the birds flying over the sea. It was really amazing. For people who have been to Tokyo tower and skytree, this will be small. But you can watch once for the sea view. You can focus the ships
Sathiya J — Google review
It is a bit to get here but if you go on a nice day, the view of the surrounding area is great.
Joshua L — Google review
You get the view from 60m up from the ground. Just only it and good enough

Chōshi Station

Mentioned on
6 lists
Train station
Chōshi Station serves as the starting point for the Choshi Electric Railway, a charming train line that takes about 20 minutes to reach its final stop at Tokawa Station. The train runs hourly, offering the perfect opportunity to explore sightseeing spots and savor Choshi's local cuisine with an unlimited day ticket. This retro rail experience provides access to the smaller communities in this renowned fishing region, known for signature treats like 'nure-senbei'.
Visited this station for the first time to ride the Choshi railway. It's a medium sized station in a rural town. The platform of Choshi railway is at the end of platform 2 and 3. It is a bit quiet here compared to the crowd of Tokyo
Arditya L — Google review
A medium sized station with a bit of flare to tourists. Staff is friendly. Check times for train!

The Earth is really round. Trust me 😉

Here is an observation deck where you can see the slightly round sea level horizon. Thus you can recogmize the earth is round. The entrance fee is about 400 yen per adult person. In my view, it is not worth the price.

Inubo Station

Mentioned on
3 lists
Train station
Inubo Station is a must-visit stop on your journey along the Choshi Electric Railway, serving as the gateway to the stunning Inubosaki Lighthouse. This iconic lighthouse, designed by English architect Richard Henry Brunton in 1874, stands proudly at Cape Inubo—the easternmost point of Kanto—offering breathtaking coastal views that are hard to match in the Tokyo area. The station itself is charming and nostalgic, making your trip feel like a delightful step back in time.
A manned and unique train station with an arc facade outside of it. Worth a visit as there's a souvenir shop here plus a good place to spot the chosai trains.
Rtexal T — Google review
Inubo Station snack shop but forgot take photo souvenir shop.
Vincent T — Google review
Visited in September 2021 I reckon most of the revenue of Choshi Electric Railway comes through the ridership of tourists to this station, which is in the vicinity of main attraction of Choshi area, namely Inubosaki Lighthouse. So much so that the company itself took a beating during the Corona Lockdown and almost folded up if not due to extensive crowdfunding efforts. The campaign itself took an inspiration from sleeper hit movie "One Cut of The Dead" (カメラを止めるな). The station building is very unique, the architect seemed to take a note from Mediterranean-style architecture. There is an arc wall along the platform all the way to the station courtyard. Since it's the most touristic station in the network, the souvenir shop was very well-stocked, one might buy local senbei (nure senbei) here. Heard that the second floor is open for exhibition, but I didn't go there because I had to take the once-an-hour train back to the town.
Lontongstroong — Google review
Accidentally went here during my first trip on the Choshi railway line. I left my bag at Tokawa station, the kind conductor lady asked me to get help from Inuboh station. The station staff's friend drove me to Tokawa station to retrieve my bag. They're so kind and helpful, even when I tried to communicate with broken Japanese. They have a souvenir shop, I love their nuresenbei. It's so fulfilling and tasty😋
Arditya L — Google review
Very friendly staff at the souvenir rice cracker shop. Lovely meeting all of you. Thank you for the gifts!
BBQ R — Google review
Very cool small station. Has a souvenir shop with some very good rice crackers and local beers. Station staff and shop staff helpful and friendly. Easy to walk to the local lighthouse.
Daniel S — Google review
I especially liked the light house and this station is the main local transport . I feel lucky to visit this place. Its really beautiful.

Among with other stations, it’s a major station that has the souvenir shop and waiting space. They also have an exhibition space (may need to pay additional fee to enter it) on 2nd floor.

Byobugaura Bay

Mentioned on

Inlet
Byobugaura Bay, nestled in Choshi City within Chiba Prefecture, is a stunning coastal gem that stretches approximately 10 kilometers from Naarai Town to Cape Gyobu. Known as the "Dover of the East," its impressive cliffs rise about 50 meters above sea level and offer breathtaking views reminiscent of England's iconic White Cliffs of Dover.
beautiful scenery you can also ride a boat for dolphins and whales sightseeing .
Missa N — Google review
(Translated by Google) If you want to see the cliffs of Byobugaura from the sea side, you can get a good view of the whole thing by walking along the promenade from the Choshi Marina parking lot. (Visited on January 2nd) We walked from the parking lot to the end of the promenade and looked around, which took about an hour. You can take a closer look. The cliffs, known as the ``Dover of the East,'' are an overwhelming sight that makes you feel that people's lives are no big deal. However, there is nothing other than this cliff. There is one toilet. There's no souvenir shop, so it's lonely. If you go, would you recommend either sunrise or sunset? Summer might be different again. Well, it's free, so it might be a good idea to visit once on a sightseeing trip. Very relaxing area. I've been here three times this year. You can take a walk or sit by the shore. I think pets are allowed as well. It's ¥200-300 yen to go on the lighthouse to view. You have to go up narrow stairs, when I went up the lighthouse it was super windy and raining not like in the pictures. It was fun for me. No time limit after you first enter.

Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
The national reserve known as Hinged Cape, located within the Suigo Tsukuba Quasi-National Park and Choshi Geopark, is a magnificent site with a towering sea cliff. The area also features a pedestrian walkway at its base that offers visitors breathtaking sunset views of Mount Fuji. On sunny days, it's an excellent place to spend time observing the strata and playing with sand in the shallow sea. The reserve provides visitors with restroom facilities and free showers for added convenience.
Nice place to visit and walk through the path comfortably feeling the nature, though, I wouldn’t call it Dover in Japan, a kind of cheap PR naming, rather, that might discourage modern visitors. These are really the millefeuille rock cliffs proudly preserved in Japan. Take time and look closely, they are really nature’s wander and magnificent.

My wife and I stopped by for lunch and were impressed from start to finish. Located right by the fish market, it offers that unmistakable fresh-from-the-sea experience with a casual, local vibe. We ordered the kaisen-don, loaded with buttery tuna, shrimp, salmon, anago, and ikura over perfectly seasoned rice—each bite was fresh and flavorful. The fried oysters were crisp and juicy, complemented perfectly by tartar sauce and cabbage. Service was friendly and efficient, and everything arrived quickly. Excellent seafood, fair prices, and authentic atmosphere—exactly what you hope for at a market-side restaurant.

Here is the one of the most famous local fish market around Tokyo area. The location is vey good, and is very next to the port. So you can buy fresh Tuna, other local fish and shells. What I reccomend the most is, soy sources. You can buy some local SPECIAL versions. It will take approximately 2 hours' from central part of Tokyo. As it's a bit far from Tokyo area, one star minus.

The seafood restaurant upstair (レストランうおっせ) is excellent. High quality, inexpensive and a sea view. It is in another small building right outside the seafood market. Those small restaurants inside the seafood market on ground floor are too expensive.

Ichiyama Ikesu

Seafood restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Ichiyamaikesu is a relaxed eatery situated near the Pacific harbor, featuring delectable seafood dishes with a focus on sashimi and Japanese spiny lobster. The menu boasts mouthwatering options like lobster tempura that are sure to leave diners extremely satisfied. With generous portions of lobster priced around 2000 yen, customers can expect value for their money. The restaurant offers a pleasant ambiance, complete with both counter seats and Japanese-style tables where patrons must remove their shoes.
Ichiyama Ikesu is a traditional Japanese culinary establishment, typically associated with seafood dining. The word "ikesu" refers to a live fish tank, often found in such restaurants, where fresh seafood is kept until it is ready to be prepared and served. This practice ensures that the seafood is as fresh as possible, a hallmark of Japanese cuisine. Located in various regions of Japan, particularly in coastal areas, Ichiyama Ikesu establishments are known for offering a unique dining experience where customers can choose their seafood directly from the tanks. The chosen seafood is then skillfully prepared by chefs, often in traditional styles such as sashimi, sushi, or grilled dishes. This process not only guarantees the freshness of the meal but also allows diners to appreciate the beauty and vibrancy of the ingredients before they are transformed into culinary art. The name 一山 (Ichiyama) suggests that this particular ikesu might be associated with a specific location or family name, possibly indicating a well-established restaurant or chain known for its high-quality seafood and dedication to tradition. Dining at an ichiyama ikesu is often seen as a cultural experience, where the connection between the diner, the chef, and the natural bounty of the sea is celebrated.

Mouthwatering seafood! I had the lobster tempura and I was extremely satisfied. Volume is pretty good. For around 2000 yen, I got a hefty serving of lobster. Good store ambiance, with counter seats as well as tables. The tables are Japanese-style, so you have to take off your shoes. The store also faces the ocean so you get a pretty view while you eat.

The atmosphere here is wonderful. You get to sit in a traditional Japanese environment by the sea. However, this place is definitely not foreigner friendly! You have to write your order on a piece of paper in Japanese otherwise you won’t get served. That said, if you get the 3500 yen set, you do get an immense amount of food, however the food isn’t as fresh as I hoped it would be.

Good food at a good price. You order food by using a tablet. The food then comes to you on a train tray on a conveyor belt. They have a variety of set meals, so you can enjoy seasonal fish, which is great. Since saury is in season at this time of year, many people ordered the saury set meal. We ordered the boiled fish set meal, sardine sashimi, and saury sashimi. The boiled fish was alfonsino, but there was almost nothing edible—it was just the bones. The bones, which you eat while sucking on the bones, are delicious, but that's only as a snack with alcohol; it would have been a bit sad if they'd served them as the main course of a set meal. However, the sardine sashimi was incredibly tasty, which saved me. Sardines were definitely better than seasonal saury sashimi! (Translated by Google) 6 minutes walk from Togawa Station on the Choshi Electric Railway. After getting off the station, head south. Be careful as the slope is steep and the road is narrow. I visited the restaurant at 12:00 noon on a weekday, the restaurant was full, and there was only one person waiting. It is a seafood restaurant. Seafood cuisine can be interpreted in a wide range of ways, so it might be better to describe it as fisherman's cuisine. From the outside, it is almost a private house. If you remove the open sign and the noren, it looks like a private house. The inside of the restaurant is spacious with mostly table seats. It is not stylish, but it is clean enough to be a restaurant that does not offend customers. Orders are made at the table, and the menu is handwritten on a whiteboard, with no QR codes or touch panels. This analogue nature is good. There is no point in expecting digital in the countryside. I ordered a sashimi set meal + boiled flatfish. Now, how does it taste? This is it! If you were to ask whether a beautiful woman without makeup or a woman with heavy makeup is better, it would overwhelmingly be the former! The freshness of the sashimi goes without saying, and the quality of the boiled fish is also high because it was boiled by someone who knows everything about fish, so there's no way it could be bad! The only thing that's bad is the financial situation of Choshi Electric Railway! It cost 1,800 yen, and I was full. The fact that the portion was too large is a minor thing. If the onions in the fried rice my dad made were all stuck together, who would blame him for his clumsy kindness? Simple is best, that's all there is to it. Judging from other people's comments, it's a popular restaurant and there seems to be a line at lunchtime. I visited in September two years ago, so the boiled alfonsino set meal was 2,000 yen. *I wonder if it's 2,500 yen now? I was surprised at how cheap it was. If you go to the Miura Peninsula, you'll have to pay an extra 1,000 yen to get it. I was able to get in with almost no wait time, but the alfonsino was sold out. Choshi is also known as a soy sauce town, so I ordered a boiled rockfish set meal. It came with sashimi and there were two rockfish. I'm glad I ordered a large portion of rice. It's a boiled dish with a rich soy sauce flavor. You'll be satisfied with both the taste and the quantity. The staff were very polite and we were shown to the second floor, so we could enjoy the view outside while eating. The parking lot seems small, so it's best to park in the parking lot in front of the station. I'd like to come again when I come to Togawa. I was relieved that we managed to fit within the daily quota. It's a popular restaurant, and the daily set menu seems to be determined by the type and quantity of fish caught in the morning's catch, which doubles the excitement. The sashimi of the day was tuna, flounder, rockfish, and sea bream. I ordered the sashimi and tempura set meal. Both the sashimi and tempura were incredibly delicious, and everything else was delicious and the portions were generous. 💯 I was very satisfied with the 1,800 yen (tax included) price. 😋 The staff are also wonderful, so I highly recommend you try it. I'll definitely stop by again next time I'm in the area. 😁👍

The pufferfish, seared rockfish, and flounder all had a burst of flavor in the mouth. The tuna was a little bland, but it was quite good when marinated in sesame oil. I arrived late on a weekday at exactly 12 o'clock, right in the middle of lunchtime. I waited for about 25 minutes. Sitting on a bench overlooking the Togawa fishing port under a clear blue sky, the wait wasn't too bad as I was blown by the cool sea breeze. It took another 30 minutes from when I was shown to my seat until the bowl arrived. I had to wait almost an hour, but it was worth it! (This is my personal opinion.) The restaurant is open from 10:30 to 14:00, but the restaurant closes when they run out of fish.... Yes, I vowed to come at 11:00 next time. Seafood Restaurant Uosse

$$$$affordable
Seafood restaurant
The seafood eatery Seafood Restaurant Uosse offers a diverse selection of oceanic cuisine. This establishment specializes in serving a wide array of delectable seafood dishes. From freshly caught fish to succulent shellfish, this restaurant provides an extensive menu filled with maritime delights. Seafood Restaurant Uosse prides itself on its ability to deliver high-quality meals made from the freshest ingredients sourced directly from the sea.
Nice seaview. Souvenirs shop and nearby tower. All good for relaxing

(Translated by Google) I remember it opened in 1991 along with the adjacent tower. The facility is undeniably old, and it has the feel of a drive-in from the end of the Showa period of high economic growth rather than the Heisei period. On the second floor, there is only a staircase to the restaurant. It is clean, but it gives the impression of a dilapidated restaurant in a tourist spot. This time, I visited on a Saturday at the end of June to try the early plum sardines of "Choshi Meshi." (Apparently, the locals call them "Iriume Iwashi" rather than "Nyuubai"). The Asahi Shimbun had just reported a comment from a fishery official saying, "This year, we have landed more sardines than we have in several years, so please come to Choshi to try them." However, the sardine menu was sold out before 12 o'clock. If they had just said something like "I'm sorry you came all this way and were looking forward to it," it would have been a different impression, but they just said "We're done" in a cold manner (bitter smile). They had taken the trouble to put up posters and handwritten recommendations in front of the store, so what a shame... This lack of hospitality is a symbol of a declining city. The menu we all ordered instead was also a bit lacking. The fried prawns were stretched out and covered in batter. Only three pieces of deep-fried horse mackerel cost over 800 yen. They were limp and the color was like Tatsuta-age. Was it pre-fried? Only the fried horse mackerel nare-roe was unusual and reasonably tasty. The sashimi in the seafood bowl was a bit fishy, and the rice in the set meal was a bit dry and a bit scary. The miso soup had a clam flavor but almost no toppings (like the free miso soup from Matsu◯ before). My companion left the fried shrimp and put rice in the miso soup, making it into Nekomamma, and washed it down. Payment methods are cash and PayPay. Popular restaurants in the city and port area are difficult to go to because they are small, there are long lines, and there is no smoking area, so I have always used this restaurant when having lunch in Choshi because I could relax without waiting. However, this seems to be causing not only this restaurant and Uosse 21 (there are more vacant stores every time I visit...), but also the city of Choshi itself to become increasingly deserted as a tourist destination. (Gyokeikan has closed down, and Select Market's parking lot has moved away and the restaurants have closed.) Choshi is a city with a long history and plenty of things to see, but JR express trains have been cut down in frequency, and it's an hour away from the nearest highway interchange. I'd like to see it bounce back somehow, but if things continue like this, it feels like a vicious cycle.

This restaurant is close to the fishing port, so you can eat a lot of seafood. They have a variety of menus, from rice bowls to set meals. I ordered a set meal that changes daily. The set meal has tuna, swordfish, amberjack, squid sashimi, fried sardines, and fried flounder as the main dishes. The sashimi and fried sardines are superb! It was very tasty! I thought I would bite into the fried flounder, but it was a complete failure. It was full of bones and it was a pain... But it was delicious! Anyway, it was a pain to get rid of the bones lol I also ordered fried namero. Fried namero is rare, and the staff recommended it, so I ordered it. It was a hit. Very tasty! The namero itself is soft, so frying it gave it a soft texture. I was disappointed with the flounder, but overall the taste was satisfying. The shrimp we got was nothing like the photo on the restaurant's sign. It was just regular boiled shrimp. The salmon roe was as small as flying fish roe. Or rather, I thought it was flying fish roe. It was just a little bit of tuna on top of the rice, and although we ordered hoping for something good from the photo, we were disappointed. Aren't they embarrassed to attract customers with a photo of such a lavish seafood dish? In the end, when the cashier had trouble with the credit card operation at checkout, he took the customer's card and started operating the terminal without their permission. Not a word of apology. Narita international airport is one of two airports serving tokyo. It's well connected to the rest of Asia, Europe and America, as Japan becomes a tourism hotspot. The airport features excellent train service that is very frequent, along with limousine bus services, making it very accessible by public transit, like most things in Japan. The interior is extremely clean, and the toilets are magnificently delightful, much nicer than ones ife seen in MLE, CMB, COK and KUL.

Narita International Airport truly lives up to Japan’s reputation for efficiency and hospitality. From the moment I arrived, the staff were polite, helpful, and always ready to assist. The entire airport is clean, well organized, and easy to navigate, even for first-time travelers. Security and immigration processes were handled smoothly, with clear signs in multiple languages guiding passengers every step of the way. The waiting lounges are comfortable, and the wide selection of shops and restaurants makes any layover enjoyable. What stood out most was the calm atmosphere and the thoughtful touches everywhere—from spotless restrooms to convenient charging stations and reliable free Wi-Fi. Transportation options to and from Tokyo are also very convenient, with express trains and airport buses that run on time. Overall, Narita Airport offers a world-class travel experience that reflects the warmth and precision of Japanese culture. I would gladly travel through Narita again.
