Old Goa, also called Velha Goa, is beside the Mandovi River in the western Indian state of Goa. The former capital of Portuguese India, it's known for colonial-era monuments like the Basilica of Bom Jesus, with the remains of St. Francis Xavier, and the domed Church of St. Cajetan, inspired by St. Peter’s in Rome. Nearby, the vast Se Cathedral, built in the 16th–17th centuries, has ornate chapels and a bell tower.

The Viceroy's Arch in Old Goa was built between 1597 and 1600, with the arch being completed in 1600 by Viceroy Francisco da Gama, the grandson of Vasco da Gama. It was a welcome gate for Portuguese viceroys arriving in the city and was built near the Mandovi River to commemorate Vasco da Gama's arrival in India. It features a deer emblem from Vasco da Gama's coat of arms and a statue of St. Catherine on the side facing the city.
Viceroys Arch, Goa ⛪⛱️ Walk Through History Under the Viceroy's Arch The Viceroy's Arch in Old Goa, a historical gem, is a must-visit for anyone exploring the region. Built-in 1599 by Viceroy Francisco da Gama to honor his famous grandfather, Vasco da Gama, this arch once marked the grand entrance to Old Goa. Despite not being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India and stands as a Monument of National Importance. This arch is a quirky mix of history and symbolism. On the river-facing side, you’ll find a statue of Vasco da Gama, looking dapper in his ceremonial attire, while the city-facing side boasts a statue of St. Catherine. Legend has it that new viceroys were welcomed with a ceremonial key under this very arch, making it the VIP entrance of its time. Originally, there was also a bronze statue of St. Catherine, which now resides in a museum post-renovation. Interestingly, the arch has seen its share of drama. It collapsed and was subsequently restored in 1954, albeit minus its original third tier. Adding to its charm are the deer emblem from Vasco da Gama's coat of arms and intricate floral designs that have survived centuries of wear and tear. Visiting the Viceroy's Arch is a breeze. It’s located near the Mandovi River, adjacent to the Se Cathedral, and you can stroll under it en route to various other historic sites in Old Goa. The arch is accessible at all times with no entry fee, making it an easy addition to any itinerary. So, next time you're in Goa, take a walk through history under the Viceroy's Arch. Just don't try to move in—those ceremonial keys have been out of circulation for a while!
Constructed in circa 1600, it is amazing that this arch is still surviving! This was constructed by then viceroy Francisco Da Gama, in memory of his great grandfather Vasco Da Gama. The structure is maintained very well by the ASI. Such monuments are part of the country's history and hence Kudos to the ASI for maintaining it very well.
The Arch of Vasco Da Gama. This a historical monument which gives you feel of old goa. It is located at a scenic place and you can get some cool photos clicked here. Nearby is a ferry point from where you can get a ferry to the Divar Island. Ferries are free in Goa so you do not have to pay anything.
A Historical Landmark . Though rebuilt, the old inscription and sculpture have been retained . ASI has installed an useful Signboard with good information about the structure . Worth stopping by and have a look .
A good historic monument in old Goa. You can take a walk along the river.
Nice photogenic place close to Ferry ⛴️ point and near to the gate of Adil Shah. From here you can reached all the monuments and chowk to go ponda and madgao easily buses are easily available at chowk. Restaurants and beautiful garden are there near by. Visit on New year 🎉 No crowded placed in very quiet 🤫 place you will live the place . Must to visit once when you are visiting old church. Be careful with mosquito 🦟 and small 🦐 insect 🐝 are to much near this place i recommend to carry anti mosquito repellent cream with you.
The place is left unmaintained, and tourists tend to litter a lot here. For anyone visiting, it would be greatly appreciated if you could avoid littering in the area.

Such a gem of a place! Strolling through this beautiful museum is like travelling through time in Goa. Wonderfully presented and housing so many gems, it’s a definite recommendation for anyone visiting Goa. So heartening to see that so many pieces here were gifted so others can also enjoy them. The Museum also holds many interesting talks, presentations, music performances, quizzes, workshops for all age groups, etc., making it a great spot for locals to also keep coming back to. (Didn’t want to add more pictures here, since you should experience it yourself!)
The Museum of Christian Art in Goa was established in 1994. It was originally set up at the Rachol Seminary before being relocated to the Convent of Santa Monica in Velha Goa in 2002. The museum is the first of its kind in Asia and was founded by INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) with assistance from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation of Portugal, under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Goa. Photography is not allowed and there is little worth seeing here. Best skipped
🔸️Located in Old Goa 🔸️Near St. Augustine tower 🔸️Beautiful lane 🔸️Definitely for museum lovers 🔸️Entry fee rs. 100/- per person 🔸️Worth visiting 🔸️Loved the environment and staff 🔸️Its a hidden Gem 💎 🔸️Mostly less crowded 🔸️Toilet facility is there 🔸️A small cafe Within for refreshment 🔸️Lovely artifacts collection
A few types of crosses, church equipments, old paintings, and other art works are displayed here. The entry fee is ₹100 per head which is a little on the higher side considering the small number of art displays here. The displays are very beautifully arranged and are mostly donated by the members of the community. Other than the members from the Christian community, people may not be interested to see these art displays, that too with such high entry fees!
We were visiting St. Augustine's tower when we chanced upon MoCA. Being a total nerd, we went it and I'm glad we did. It's well maintained, has clean restrooms and a little cafe. The best attraction was the main altar and the viewing gallery. It was quite unique to see the mix of culture and art of different worlds. 10/10 would recommend.
Better than expected! Very well done - modern, neat, well-maintained, air-conditioned with the right amount of explanations. Friendly staff, nice small café just in front of it; clean toilets. Wheelchair accessible. Worth a 30-45 minute visit if you're in Old Goa.
It is a project of the Archdiocese of Goa and was set up with technical and financial assistance from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Portugal and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), New Delhi. Earlier, it was located at the Seminary of Rachol, Salcete, Goa. The museum which was initially set up to display these unique works of art, evolved over the years into a space focused on creating awareness on conservation and restoration of art and architecture through various activities and collaborations. Noteworthy among these are the restoration of the 17th. century, State protected monument, The Church of Santa Monica and conservation of the museum's collection.
Beautiful place to spend 45 minutes here without wait. Visited on weekends on New year no crowd only 2 to 4 people's are there you can spend very calmly around 1 hour in the museum, cafe area is available at the gate. There is electronic and normal wheel-chair is available inside the premises, place is very quiet and cool. I recommend visit atleast once near to St. Augustine 🗼 tower. Entry ticket 🎫🎟️ is 100 INR per person . Photography is not banned if you are taken pics of articals with you can't take pics of yourself and your friend in that place.

Best experience in Goa. My 2nd visit to Dudhsagar (2nd visit to Goa), Must visit and Don't miss it on your Trip. Less time to stay (< 1 hour) in the waterfall due to the reasons below: 2 hour journey from Calangute 2 hours in the Ticket line (even if you booked ticket online) 1 hour journey from the ticket counter to Waterfall parking. (Queue at forest entry, more Delay can be expected depending on Rush) 20 mins walk from waterfall parking to waterfall location. Time slots maintained by them. So you need to leave early as per the time slot mentioned by the driver.
The place is beautiful but crowded, and you lose the natural beauty. The main Info was given in Hindi and key info was lost to those who didn’t speak that language; the bus was unnecessarily noisy with loud music. The plantation trip is just a way to get you to a restaurant. The good thing is the pick up from the hotel, but half of the time is wasted and we had a 4am call to remind us to be ready by 6:15, that was unpleasant.
All over a good place to visit once but management should have to arrange the proper stairs there to reach the waterfall. Too slippery rocks due to which anybody can be slipped. So just be careful while climbing or down rocks.
It's good for one time experience they should arrange some more changing rooms at the Dudhsagar waterfall specially for girls 2 3 washroom for poo as well it has to be clean all the time The rest is good.
Beautiful place Beautiful Waterfalls Excellent Background pics We are All Full Enjoying Awesome location
Nice waterfall, made famous by a Indian movie . Long ways from south Goa. After we got to the starting point for the tour our reservation said 8 am to 1 pm. We had to wait for 2.5 hours for the ticket and to be assigned a jeep with 7 people. After paying extra for the mandatory life jackets . We were seated in the Jeep and crawled towards the national Forest ark entrance. Another hour and after paying a separate fee to enter the park. It seems they only have a small parking at the fall entrance. So you have to wait outside the park entrance until enough jeeps come back from the safari. Afterwards we were able to enter the park. It is a 45 mini of bumpy Jeep Safari to the parking lots. After you get to the parking lots you have 90 minutes. To make it back to the Jeep. Another 15 minutes of nice hike through the forest rocks a bridge over the stream. Nice spectacular fall with a place to take a swim in the cold waters. It was the dry season, but still had plenty of water. Photos swim and hike back to the Jeep. Fairly easy hike no steep hills. Then back on the Jeep Safari through the streams , forest to buy road back to base to continue back to hotel. Still a nice fall to visit if you have the time.
The way they preserve the environment here is very nice. The waterfall is beautiful and if you are the chance to see the train it’s a unique experience. Only problem is there are many people, mostly Russians who are very loud. The peacefulness of this place completely gone.
Overall good experience. Make sure you visit this place before 4PM because last entry time is 4PM after that there's no entry to this place. Whoever has reached before 4PM will have time till 6PM or less. So it's better to visit in morning or afternoon 2PM onwards. We went in December and the flow of water was less due hot weather. Buy tickets in advance online or if you doing it locally there make sure you have cash for paying jeep taking you in and for entry you must have cards for transactions for entry. That's compulsory. All the fees are mentioned in the last photo I attached. First of all if you are coming by car or whatever you will see a board where it says the LAST POINT FOR PARKING and personal car is not allowed to reach the waterfalls. Make sure you park it there because after that point there's no parking. Then there will be lots of bolero and jeeps to take you there and next to it will be ticket counter for jeep and they only accept cash. If you don't have cash, there is some old lady there who gives you cash in exchange of online payment with some charges. Than the car will take you to entry point where you have to pay for entry fees with card compulsory. On the way you will cross small rivers in cars with 25-40 minutes drive full of rocks and adventure. You will reach your destination and from there you have to were your life jacket and go through 5-10 minutes walk to visit this waterfall and a small place to swim with thunder cool water. I would recommend this place is only for people aged 15-45 or 50 due to lots of adventure on the way 😂. Overall good experience and will visit again during heavy flow of waterfalls.
