Really well done exhibits with lots of information about the orcas and other whales, and very moving stories of some of the individual Southern Resident Killer Whales. Employees were kind and knowledgeable, and I attended a fantastic free talk at the museum by Brad Hanson about the status and health of the Southern Resident Killer Whale pods. If you’re planning a trip to San Juan Island the Whale Museum is whale worth a visit.
We went in on a Saturday. It wasn't crowded. Good collection in the display and an audio tour we can listen along as we move through the exhibits.
An interactive museum, well-equipped and educational. Excellent for taking small children, as it has a children's area. I liked that, despite having two floors, it has a wheelchair for guests to climb if needed. It's a quick tour; I highly recommend visiting.
Amazing! This is a must see whenever you are in Friday Harbor! Kids & adults, so much to learn, experience and explore. The gift shop has something for everyone 💙💚💙
My partner and I came here for our third anniversary. We both thought this was one of the best museums we’ve ever been to. The staff are clearly enthusiastic and well-informed about marine life. The exhibits upstairs are curated with extraordinary care for the animals that they depict. In particular, the interactive phone booth in the corner was clever. It was a wonderful way to hear the animals through a “filter” — the phone’s antiquated crackle and sense of distance — as a simulation, perhaps, of the underwater transmittance of that information. We had a lovely time. Thank you for having us!
The museum was very informative and have really cool exhibits. The woman working there was very nice and friendly as well. I also really liked the unique finds in the giftshop that had many items from local artists
The Whale Museum is awesome! So much to look at. The staff were very friendly and the gift shop is great! A wonderful way to spend the day!
GOOD AT EDUCATION BUT MUSEUM NEEDS AN UPGRADE The people here are passionate about educating humans on these wonderful creatures and what can be done to protect them. However, the museum itself looks like it's from 1992 with very little interactivity and, in this day and age, that's expected. I hope they receive funding to update, as this is the perfect spot to learn about whales and then go out and see them in their natural habitat. On the plus side, the gift shop was good with a nice range of products.

A bit disappointed I didn’t see any orcas, but oh well—let it be! The scenery here is absolutely unbeatable, truly stunning. The trail to the beach is easy and enjoyable, making it a great spot for a relaxing walk. Still worth the visit!
Beautiful area with good hiking and a great interpretive center with lovely information and kind staff. There isn’t much parking here, but it rotates out pretty easily. This is a great starting point to bike down to cattle point or take a break from a ride originating at cattle point.
Great place to watch a sunset! Need to buy a discovery pass for $10 so bring cash. There is a self pay station. Locals say this is the best place on the island for whale watching: we only saw a sea lion. Beautiful view is the expanse of the Sound!
Beautiful and tranquil setting if visiting Friday Harbor. Take the time to head out and see the countryside and when you’ll enjoy the views on the way to this picturesque park. There are nice waterfront trails, adequate parking and the views of the wildlife and water is stunning.
The only downside for me was the bathrooms, I really wish there had been plumbing for the toilets. We didn’t see any orcas, but the season just started so maybe they’re just being shy. Also the lighthouse was closed because someone broke their ankle and the staff was helping out, but what can you do. I like that there were multiple trail loops to walk while my husband sat on the rocks with binoculars, he did end up spotting a minke whale, so that’s something! Seemed like a great place for families, lots of parking, plenty of picnic tables, cute gift shop, snack stand, and lots of informational stands to read wildlife facts.
Cute little park with a short hike to the lighthouse. There is a fee for a tour of the building. The views are spectacular, and the little wilderness you walk through is so pretty with old trees and magical glades buzzing with dragonflies. Gift shops, restrooms all the things are there. They are composting toilets so if you're not for that thing, go pee before you leave your accommodations.
If you are a visitor driving around the island, this place is an absolute must-visit destination. This charming little park is more than just a stop; it's an experience with a lot to offer for a wide range of interests. One of the immediate advantages is the ample parking space, which makes it incredibly accessible and stress-free for everyone. The generous lot ensures that even on a busy day, you can easily find a spot without having to circle the area. Upon arrival, the gift shop was a pleasant surprise. The staff was genuinely kind and welcoming, creating a warm atmosphere. The shop itself was well-stocked with a wide variety of items, from local crafts and souvenirs to snacks and drinks, offering something for every visitor to remember their trip by. The walk to the viewpoint was another highlight. It was not at all strenuous, making it perfect for every age group, including young children and seniors. The path is very short and quick, leading to a breathtaking vista that you can enjoy without a long, tiring hike. While there were some pieces of trash scattered here and there, the amount was negligible, especially when you consider the high volume of foot traffic the place receives, particularly during the peak season. During my visit in the summer, the presence of yellow jacket bees was quite noticeable. It's a small detail to be aware of, so a friendly tip for future visitors is to be mindful of this and not to leave any sweets or sugary drinks exposed. While I was a little disappointed not to see any of the famous Orcas, the wildlife viewing was still fantastic. I was fortunate enough to witness a ton of salmon jumping around in the water below, a truly spectacular and unforgettable sight that made the trip worthwhile. This park is a gem and well worth the visit.
Pretty site, informative gift shop, good parking lot, composting restrooms, nice trails to the water to watch for whales. Picnic tables & informational signage at the waters edge.

GET YOUR LAVENDER HIT HERE Like visiting the south of France. The farm is in the middle of the island and the drive is nice, through the countryside. The lavender was nearly done when I visited, but it still smelled wonderful. The gift shop is just lovely with so many products starring lavender, from lavender oil roll-ons to shortbread and everything in between. It's a lovely farm with cutting fields and the grounds are free to visit.
If you're a lavender enthusiast or just curious, this is a stop for you. Informative displays, tea to sample, lot of gift shop items and a picnic area. Walk through the lavender fields and enjoy the setting. Displays include various stages of lavender plant growth. This can be a quick stop or you can spend some time here.
We were here just before the lavender festival so it wasn't quite in full bloom but it was still beautiful. There are may different rows of lavender and you can cut your own flowers after checking in at the store on property. We took photos and then went into the store. They have many different locations around the country where they sell their products so if you can't come to the farm you can still purchase all they offer.
I love this farm!! We got some coffee in town and took a drive here and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We sat at the picnic tables and took in the views and explored the shop. We bought as much as we could that would fit in our suitcases. I'm hoping they have an online shop because I already want more of their lip balm and bath salts. Wonderful people!
My family and I came here for the Lavender Festival. It's really neat to see the rolling fields of purple flowers. There's a ton of bees everywhere in the fields, but they're nice and will leave you alone. You can learn a lot here about growing and cultivating lavender and making it into various products. The festival itself was a lot of fun. They had lots of booths, live music, face painting, and food. The lavender ice cream is delicious!
Lavender lemonade was really good. Their signature dish (beef savory something) was wrapped and cold😅 it tastes okay though. Maybe to keep it fresh for slow traffic. The farm is really nice picnic spot, and great for hanging out with friends/family/kids
Love this lavender experience 💜 The fields are astonishing, no matter the season there is something to see. They have nice pick nick tables to have lunch. 🛍 They have a "gift shop" with everything lavender, foods, cleaning supplies, chocolates, essential oils. I recomend the lemon lavender sorbet, It's delicious. 👤 Service is great, everyone is really helpful 🚻 There are bathrooms on site. 🅿️ They have free parking on site 🐶 pet friendly
Most wonderful experience visiting Pelindaba Farms today. The shopkeeper gave us the grand tour and showed us around. Loved the store. Lavender for the kitchen! Lavender for your bath! Lavender for your pet! And more Lavender.....just in case! We will be back!

Very cool historic British military camp. Park rangers were very nice and informative. Parking lot fills up at peak hours.
This area has absolutely great potential to showcase more of the history. The signage and visitor center was very minimal compared to the American Camp on the island. The buildings that remain appeared to house equipment and extra furniture. It would be nice to have those buildings open up and appear like it once was during the time of operating. The trails were marked very little and there we did not see one guide while we were there on Friday, mid day. The English garden was beautiful and many flowers were in bloom. It appeared well maintained. This park has so much potential. If you travel to the American camp too you will see the stark differences.
This review is for the hike up to Young Hill, not the visitor center. Beautiful views toward the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island. Moderate hike with a brief steep section.
Went to the English Camp in August and it was a fun stop along our trip. The video in the visitor center is worth the watch to learn about the camp and the area. We had kids with us, and what made the English Camp fun for them was taking part in the Junior Park Ranger program. We asked for the activity guide, completed it while we explored the park, and then the kids pledged to keep parks safe which earned them a park ranger badge.
The English Camp Parade Ground is located on Garrison Bay, in the northwest corner of San Juan Island. Since time immemorial, Lummi, W̱SÁNEĆ, Songhees, Clallam, and other Coast Salish people traveled by canoe to the village site some call Pe'pi'ow'elh, Smiuth, and the Lummi Creation Island. When the Royal Marines landed at English Camp, the longhouse was torn down, and used for the military barracks, and fences. Also, the burial site on Gus Island was burned down. Archeologists removed many items to the Burke Museum and recorded that the village site showed years of a living culture as the grounds were filled with clam middens that averaged ten feet high, from thirty-five to forty feet through, by 120 yards long. The shell middens were used to pave the parade grounds at English Camp and pathways to the officers quarters.
The Pig War has to be one of the most hilarious historical events I’ve ever read about. We weren’t able to visit the opposing “American Camp” but will definitely do so next time. The lady working at the Visitor Center was so kind and went out of her way to outline a path for us to take a stroll. Thank you English Camp for making our Saturday at Friday Harbor!
Beautiful preserved and enlightening historical park! The trails were well kept and neat. 🌲🥾 Aside from hiking, there is also a stunning formal garden and a blockhouse! It's pretty cool to see the houses across the bay, and the tree-covered Guss Island!
We had a special surprise. A Native tribe was having a ceremony when we arrived. We were told that it was the first native ceremony on that land in 200 years. It was very interesting and educational.

Sophie and Kylie were our guides on our tour last night. We took our daughter for the first time and she was nervous, but they did a great job of making it super fun and put her and everyone in our mixed group of 8 at ease. They were fun and made the whole experience well worth it for any family looking for a good intro into zip lining. They were experienced and it showed how much they just loved the whole experience from actually zipping to meeting people...the guides made it for us and we will definitely recommend this to anyone.
We couldn't have been more disappointed in this company. We decided to take one day of our three day vacation to zip line over San Juan Island. We ferried early to make the 1 pm zip line appointment ($59), had lunch and waited at the spot we agreed to meet the night before. Thirty minutes prior to our reservation the company called to inform us that they didn't have enough guides to host our zip line tour. They said one of the guides had a migraine and we could wait to see if she felt better by the 4pm tour time. The returning ferry schedule led us to wait, we were called at 3:30 and were told the guide didn't feel better and the reservation had to be cancelled. I completely understand someone being sick, but running a business means having enough workers to cover these situations. The whole experience of working with the company was very unprofessional. Now to the refund... "So sorry, you'll have to work directly with Groupon." Thanks for the great customer service...
What a great experience especially if this is your first time ziplining ever!!! Our two guides, whose names have suddenly escaped me (sorry, guys, and you were so awesome!) were not only expertly and assuringly safety conscience, but were funny as well! It is obvious they love their job, the sport, and Washington state! Thanks for the wonderful time. Grandson says thanks as well. I would recommend this adventure for any age!! Aha, Ivan and Anchi. Hurrah, I remembered!
The shuttle arrived on time to take us to the site. The instructors (Gauge and Chole) were amazing, funny and clearly explained all the safety rules and what not to do. They also showed us a few zip tricks to increase the fun. The first two practice zips preps you for the remaining higher longer zips. There is a bridge to cross that was, for me, fun-scary but safe.
We had an awesome experience! Our guides were great! We were all first timers and they made us feel relaxed and comfortable. Worth every penny we will be back! Thank you Ivan and onchie.
This was the highlight of our trip to the San Juan Islands. It was a great family excursion (our youngest is 8). Our tour guides Lara and Kylie were awesome! Highly recommend!!
fun little trip, it’s more like 6 zip lines with 2 warm up ones. tour guides were friendly and funny. definitely more of a family fun activity and not exactly a thrill seeking adrenaline rush.
Heidi Anci Bailey via Phone were the best customer service ever. Friendly accommodating and since you aren't in your local area as a tourist I never had to question their quality as local hosts. I felt safe with them through the tour and even the simplicity in getting answers where to meet. Which was a little dead end by the court house at the cul de sac at the end of first st. A little foreplanning goes a long way. Check the ferry schedule before going we went to anacortes Saturday to get ahead information and to scout the area. The ferry we took left at 905 am. Get there a half hour early to park even the overflow parking is a good distance away and we had to run for the ferry. It costs about 90 dollars to take the ferry for car to and back. That's pretty expensive. We opted to walk on for 27 dollars. Once in Friday harbor your can rent little electric cars mopeds or bikes so its not a concern. The ferry system runs on car reservations to guarantee a spot. According to they ferry terminal representative it's not uncommon to get trapped on the island until the next available ferry and hotels run about minimum 300 a night. It's a summer tourist location so they have to make their money during the summer. Feel free to bring a good camera. We packed light since we weren't sure they would have a place to keep our stuff. They opt for us to keep our belongings in the van.

In mid May we walked the South Beach trail out across the prairie and really enjoyed the expansive view, wildflowers, bunnies, foxes and raptors. After exploring the beach and some tidepools in the rocks, we picked up the Coastal Bluff Trail toward Grandma's Cove. Again, full of wildflowers and many songbirds. This was my favorite part of the walk, with the waves crashing below us on our left and the expanse of prairie on our right. The trail is narrow and close to the bluff in places so you might not enjoy it so much with little children.
There is so much fascinating history on this island! This is the first stop you should visit if you are exploring San Juan after Friday Harbor. There are also 2 mated bald eagles that have a nest here (currently with 2 eggs). The visitor center is also a museum with tons of information and displays from archaeological digs. They have restored a few buildings.
Amazing place to explore with children. We saw baby foxes, bold eagles, dears, different kinds of birds, wild dolphins swimming, and surely amazing views. Very clean bathrooms are the guest center (honestly, the entire island is well maintained, and public restrooms are very clean).
Cool history, and you can see the old American camp were troops set up while the San Juan issue was worked out. Beautiful views, nice trails.
Im working up here and, it's a very interesting piece of American history. It's also a very beautiful place. With incredible views of the Puget sound. In less than a week i have seen a fox, eagle's and, a ton of deer. I recommend visiting this place.
We were here when the office was closed but we still walked around to read the placards and see the beautiful views. We came back so we could hear the history and see the displays inside and get the stamp for our National Parks Passport. It was fascinating to learn about what transpired on San Juan Island between the Brits and the US and the Pig War. We also visited the English camp on the other side of the island to get the whole story.
It is a nice little hike. We enjoyed the informative signs and seeing the buildings that are left. We went to this one first and then the English camp on the other side of the island.
Lots of long scenic trails, beautiful views, and a very nice visitors center with helpful and informative staff

Great place for animal lovers and those on a budget! The alpacas are beautiful and come to you for a feeding. Buy the food pellets for $6 to feed alpacas. The store has a lot of great items to purchase. Good selection of clothing, trinkets, and more.
So great! The feed bags are cheap and give you a generous amount to feed the alpacas. Be careful with the boys because they get competitive with each other for your food and will spit at each other! We got hit in the crossfire but it was fine and makes for a story. The other alpacas were super chill and the farm cat, my gosh, so cute and socialized and just great. The stores really cool albeit a bit spendy but good products there. Learning about the farm was also great, you can tell a lot of work goes in to making a regenerative farm work. Definitely worth a visit!
I AM IN LOVE and I don’t care who knows it!!! Love these sweet curious creatures ❤️ they are slightly shy but warm quickly with some alpaca food purchased in the gift shop. I would like to tell you how much it costs but honestly I didn’t care…I had to feed them…it was the most fun I had on San Juan Island. They have tours also but we didn’t have enough time to participate because we got there 40 minutes before they closed. If you want something from the gift shop it is somewhat pricey but you are getting real product. The socks range from $26 and up from what I saw Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful animals!
Krystal Acres was super cute and I am so glad my mom and I stopped in. The alpacas made our day! They were cute and saucy and made the funniest sounds. They loved being fed! They were gentle taking the food (you can purchase it in the shop) out of our hands. The shop was full of alpaca wool items, some even made with wool from Krystal Acres, and the prices were great! A fun place to visit!
Highlight of our trip. The alpacas are the cutest species you will ever come across. Dont forget to feed them . This farm is well maintained and the owners are very friendly and warm as well. Highly recommend you to stop here while you are in the islands!
An absolutely delightful visit! The alpacas here are so pretty and cute; you can tell they're definitely used to people.
Beautiful farm with wonderful hosts! We had so much fun and loved everything about visiting the llamas… such a memorable experience. Highly recommend!
Such a gem on the island! My toddler had so much fun feeding the sweet alpacas. The feed is super affordable and give you enough to go around the different areas and feed all the animals. The shop is also great, offering a wide range of really good stuff. Friendly staff too. Highly recommend!

The Angevine and Siegerrebe were really tasty. Great to have on a hot day on their patio. The property and facility is really well kept and nice. Also so many cute dogs. They have these lavender bushes growing on the walkway by the stage too that smell wonderful. Service was great but it gets really busy on the weekend so give some grace there. Definitely would visit again.
Gorgeous space, mediocre wine. We were charged an auto gratuity without our knowledge and only had a dozen words spoken to us. Not something I would return to or recommend. EDIT: I am editing this almost a week later as we brought home a bottle of wine to enjoy. It may be the fact that we were in our home where we are at our most comfortable, or drinking it out of our favorite wine glasses, or pairing it with a risotto, or whatever. But we did enjoy it and I'm happy we purchased a bottle. Maybe the gentleman supporting us at the vineyard was having an off morning, we were one of the first customers of the day. I don't know. I most likely won't return, due to how far away we live, but I would recommend it to anyone who likes white wine.
the service here is amazing. the white wine is incredible, even though my party ultimately decided to spilt a bottle of red. they offered us generous samples of their wines and were very kind and conversational as we made a decision on which to get. thank you!
Really a special place on the island. It’s small but nice, and the staff are beyond kind to help out. We celebrated part of our anniversary here and we were touched with how much they wanted to do for us and even do a mini photo shoot. We love that local wine grows in such a great place and will be coming back again.
Delicious wines. Especially like the whites and rosè...scenic, clean, and very friendly staff. Different types of grapes than I've gotten to try elsewhere and they are grown in property
Beautiful setting. Room for large groups or parties. Always end up buying more wine then I need…says no one ever!! Great variety of wines. Covered area for shade, nice grassy area. Easy to get to from Friday or Roche. Small gift shop inside. Staff friendly!
We were here for the first time this year. We liked that wine very much, specially rose one. Nice quiet environment around. We will definitely come again.
Omg! The best wine in my life and service is so nice💕

Absolutely wonderful experience. Small but stunning menu of oysters, clams, and salads. My family enjoyed both raw and grilled oysters. The raw oysters were delicious and came with a blueberry vinegarette. The grilled oysters had 3 different sauce options. All were exceptionally delicious. My parents enjoyed panzanella salads and I had the Farm salad. Both contained excellent greens, flowers and vegetables. Very creative and delicious. Welcoming atmosphere. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Absolutely worth a visit.
Lovely view of the lake. Came with a large group, 3 picnic takes and ordered the whole menu, we loved their high beach sweet oysters, the clam bowl, and the “Sammy” which had a no meat option for our vegetarians friends.
All I can say is WOW! 🤩 This place is phenomenal in every metric imaginable. The venue itself is beyond unique and the food/service is Top-Notch. From our initial check-in with the lovely Miss Paige to the “ridiculously-delicious” Oysters we were served — the entire experience exceeded our expectations! (Shout out to Lili and Allie/Hayden/Kennedy for going the extra mile to make sure we were taken care of). If you’re looking for “Epic-Oysters” served by “a notch above” staff…make your reservations pronto! You will NOT be disappointed!! Cheers 🥃🥃 to Wescott Bay Shelfish Company — what a fabulous experience!!
Beautiful. Perfect. And if you know this place, you know how to live and the privilege. Hard to photograph, today's special, a beautiful gazpacho, with tomatillo's celery and cucumber with a beautiful drizzle of herb oil and a pansy ice cube flourish. YUM.
If you’re looking for good oysters look no further! Get a reservation but we were able to walk in as it was the low season. We got some grilled oysters and a salad that was also so delicious. And even took two dozen to shuck at home that we loved! We couldn’t find fresher or tastier ones on San Juan it’s such a cute spot for a date or group.
Amazing restaurant and excellent service on the water. Beautiful doc to walk around on and a nice grassy field with cornhole games. Fun place to go with a large group as well as a small one. Totally recommend!
Unique location and the grilled oysters were so good. They had blankets for us on the cold day.
We have traveled many places, and tried oysters from all over the country. We walked away feeling that we may have had our best oysters yet. The sampler was incredibly tasty, and we ordered another with our main course. The shishito pepper special was also one of my favorites. It’s a beautiful location, with warm welcoming staff. They are attentive, and on a downpour day went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable experience. We would return time and time again. They left quite the impression on us.

Lovely little art museum with a great selection of art! I loved the photography exhibit that’s on about compassion. A huge variety of artists are represented from Imogen Cunningham to local artists as well! Docent was extremely friendly and enthusiastic. Mondays are pay what you like too.
This is a small, but powerful museum. We very much enjoyed all three exhibits and the lady working the information booth was super friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a stop in when you’re on the islands. I wouldn’t recommend this place for small children.
The Shapeshifters exhibit is Incredibly curated. This is a gem of an art museum. Also check out the Arctic Raven Gallery if you have time.
The people who work here are very happy for you to visit and very informed about the installations. I was extremely moved by River of Their Passing; the scale and detail of the piece is simply incredible. It’s a small museum but it seems like a lot of care goes into the curation as evidenced by the video interviews you can watch. The kelp exhibit was also pretty cool.
GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES Fabulous small art gallery/museum. The layout has been beautifully designed and curated by Peter Lane, the paintings shine from the walls and I enjoyed my walk through. Worth a good hour of your time to stop and appreciate the fine artists on display. Lovely things for sale in gift shop.
This museum is a treasure. The NW indigenous artists' show was magnificent.
Small museum. There was an excellent exhibition when we visited: 'African Twighlight'. Highly recommendable.
Gorgeous - I finally got the night shots I was hoping for!

Absolutely top notch customer service! From buying a piece of art in Island Studio to receiving it at my home, I was so impressed with the professional way all was handled. I would recommend this gallery to all who visit lovely Friday Harbor and want to take a souvenir back. The gallery has a wide selection of art and jewelry and has something for all budgets.
Great shop, it just keeps going! We enjoyed all the different types of art and the cute garden in the back. We appreciated this friendly stop on our vacation.
Wide variety of art and crafts. A big store
This was the best shop on the island for memorable souvenirs. The staff a Was warm and welcoming. You could tell this is a labor of love.
Go in and to the back. There is a beautiful zen garden with a koi pond and all kinds of funky plants in weird pots for sale.
Staff were amazing!! Garden was peaceful and pretty.
Amazing art & island hospitality

I was glad I had budgeted my funds as I could have bought so much. Prices ran from the thousand$ to under ten dollar$. The gallery was spacious so you could walk around without worrying of knocking into something and the art was spaced so each piece could be seen on its' own. Even the jewelry displayed so the eye saw each piece and not a cluster of metal and stones. The woman I dealt with was pleasant, knowledgeable and very helpful. I highly recommend the gallery on your places to see!
A beautiful collection of native art, the gallery is well laid out (there is a second floor as well), great service. I'm very happy with my purchase!
We've purchased many pieces of exquisite PNW Coastal Indian Art from Lee Brooks at Arctic Raven Gallery....We couldn't be happier with our collection! It has added so much beauty and life to our home that our children, grand children & great grand children will be able to enjoy with their kids :)
It looked interesting from outside and certainly stocked some nice loooking stuff...though perhaps a bit cliche for pieces so pricey. Disappointing that some of the stock was made in China. The assistant on duty wasn’t particularly helpful or engaging. My sister in law asked her about an item - more out of politeness while I was browsing - to be told ‘you can read the labels if you want more information’. Wouldn’t go back.
Absolutely a fantastic gallery. Great experience purchasing from Arctic Raven
Brilliant. Is it a gallery or a museum. Or both.
Nice gallery to stop in
beautiful local art

Such a neat place to shop for wonderful island originals. And delicious home made pastries. Lots of friendly people and lots of dogs to pet!! A must do if you are on the island on a Saturday morning!
This farmers market should not be missed if you are on the islands on Saturday mornings. The local foods produce and artisan goods are all amazing and very fairly priced. There’s no better way to start your Saturday on the island.
What a fun find in Friday harbor on 10/14/2023. Some booths outside, then go inside for even more booths to enjoy. Canned salmon, fresh flowers, custom made jewelry, baked goods, artists…and so much more!
Great market with lots of local produce and gifts. Loved the music!
If you are looking for a local arts and crafts market, this market gets a five. If you are looking for a farmers market and fresh produce it gets a one or less. There was literally only one produce stand. There is also a cheese stand and a few baked goods stands. The rest is local artisans. (It should be noted that this wasn't always the case- there used to be amazing produce years ago! I hope in future years they get back to being a farmers market.)
Friday Harbor Farmer's Market is amazing. They have great market selection and amazing/delicious food. As well, the vibes and general feel that you get coming here are extremely welcoming and kindly. Very similar to a merchandise woodstock.
A bit of a misnomer when we went. In fairness it was winter, so there was no produce that I could see. There were a couple of wineries and many craft booths. We bought some cool popcorn salts. Good place if you want trinkets. Not much substance. Probably around 25-30 vendors were there.
Wonderful selection of produce, sweet and savory baked goods, flowers, art, and handmade items. The peonies were gorgeous this week and the strawberry rhubarb pastry was amazing.

This is a little gem parked away! Small collection of interesting buildings, many explainer boards and many neat photos. Very nice staff. They stayed a few minutes past closing for us just so we could explore the grounds without feeling rushed. Interesting that some of the older buildings have been moved/saved, lot of history. The main museum building is the best with recreation scenes.
This was the first time I've been to the San Juan Historical Museum though I've been to the island several dozen times. The museum was fantastic! Great pieces of history both from earlier time periods and specific to the island. I loved the King's farmhouse with the phone operators board and what bedrooms looked like. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the island!
We started our stay on San Juan Island with a visit to this historical museum. Very well done - we were the first visitors on a Tuesday morning. The director, Kevin, and his staff of two volunteers were very gracious and friendly. We walked the entire facility and enjoyed the displays. The volunteers even gave us great local dining recommendations for our stay. This is a worth a while stop if you’ve never been to the San Juan Islands before… You will learn a lot!!
Wonderful experience learning about the history of San Juan Island! The main house was full of neat antiques and it felt as though you stepped right back in time. The new industry building is fantastic and full of fun facts. The people there were super sweet and accommodating! Highly recommend!
What a lovely place to visit. Do not miss this place while visiting San Juan islands and dedicate a bit of your time to learn about the local history. It's a self-guided tour, but you'll get started by lovely staff. 😉
The main gems of the San Juan Islands, Friday Harbor remains one of the few fun and welcoming islands in the SJ to tourists and visitors.. unlike some of it's neighbors (Lopez) that have turned their backs on tourists in favor of rich "private beach" zoning, Friday Harbour is a refreshing throw back to the Old Identity of what the SJ Island used to represent. 10/10 will recommend. The museum is a living testament to the islands dedication for sharing their past and present to all visitors 🫶🏽
Really neat place, lots of history and knowledgeable docents. I recommend going and checking out the local history of the island.
Charming historic farm with lots of information and friendly staff. Stop in and learn about the history if you are visiting the island.
