This was a fantastic experience. The conductor did such a great job giving information about the area and pointing out places of interest. The scenery was incredible as the fall leaves were at their peak. I would recommend this ride to everyone.
This is a pretty cool thing to do. It takes about two and a half hours but you get to go on a nice train ride and the announcer is very well informed on everything about the town and surrounding areas. The seats are pretty comfortable which is nice. The staff on the train was very friendly and willing to help with anything you needed. You learn a lot of factual things on the strain right also. Lots of very cool scenery on this trip
Recently enjoyed a train ride on a sunny October day to celebrate our 21st anniversary (we rode it on our honeymoon). This adventure is worth every penny, but bring your coat and gloves! We highly encourage the upgrade to a lounge car in chilly weather but be sure to check out the concession care even though you have an attendant. Great photos and other surprises to explore. The bathrooms are an adventure unto themselves, so be prepared for a rustic experience in that part of the train.
We had an amazing time on the Leadville Railroad with friends. The views were stunning, the warm coach seats were perfect for the chilly October weather, and the full glass windows made the scenery easy to enjoy. They serve food to your table, and the standing area adds extra fun. A truly unforgettable experience!
This train is absolutely amazing! As a plus size person I highly recommend! The isles between the seats are really wide the door and the stairs to get in and out of the cars are also nice and wide. We took our two dogs with us and appreciate the fact that dogs are allowed to enjoy such a fun activity! The pretzels 🥨 are super good as well! The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable! I can not say enough good things about this train!! 🚂
The train ride was a great experience with absolutely breathtaking views the entire way. It was easy to find, and the free parking made everything even more convenient. The food on the train was definitely a plus and added to the overall enjoyment. The only downside was that I didn’t receive an actual train ticket like the others did, which was a bit disappointing. Other than that, it was a fun and memorable ride!
Taking this historic train ride is amazing for many perspectives. From the terrain you cover to the views you see all while getting a historic narrative from our Conductor Lanora. Lanora made the journey so interesting as she added so many historic details to what we were looking at. From mining for gold to Doc Holiday to geological facts her story telling ability is unmatched. Want to learn about Leadville and the surrounding area all while riding a train in the mountains of Colorado, then this is where you want to be.
One of the best railroad experiences in Colorado! We rode the train this week (last week of August) and the Aspens are already beginning to change, if you're reading this and planning the fall tour, y'all are in for treat! The drive to Leadville from Denver is around 2 hours but beautiful the entire way, the town of Leadville is really really cool, not all blown up and commercialized like Golden. Beautiful brick buildings etc. Anyway, back to the train... Best views are facing away from the station (left side). The covered car with windows can be a bit loud from rattling. If it's not raining (it rained before we boarded and dang you wouldn't believe how fast the crew worked to dry seats!), sit in the outside car or the covered car with no windows. Beautiful views and history the entire way. On the way down try and get closer to the engine...the diesel gets caught in the last car going downhill and it's a bit rough. Regardless, the staff is great and friendly and of all the railroads we did this one definitely has a special spot. We look forward to returning some day.

Very nice museam. Lots to take in and look at. Highly recommended.
Very informative ! This is a great place to learn about the history of mining in Leadville, State of Colorado and the entire United States. There is a lot of information for gold mining to coal mining and everything in between if your in Leadville and have an hour or so and want to check out the museum you won’t be disappointed. This is in the old school house we were told.
Such a neat place. You could easily spend a few hours here learning about history of the area and interacting w/displays. Staff is super friendly and happy to tell you anything you need to know about Leadville area.
As a descendant of an immigrant miner and also Baby Doe on my husband's side, the museum held a lot of significance. The interactive exhibits were very realistic. You can spend a few hours here and learn quite a bit.
Awesome old School Building turning into a Mining Museum and Hall of Fame. Lots of cool mining facts and artifacts to see. There's an awesome Miniature room, and several immersive walk through rooms that transport you under the earth. Also didn't trigger my Claustrophobia at all.
Just a perfect museum. Either a willingness one comes away with such an incredible treasure of new knowledge. Highly recommended.
Awesome place to visit! Really cool dioramas depicting life in a mining town. Walk through faux mines. Really affordable!
Very cool museum! Great for mining enthusiasts, but also a great intro to the history of Leadville and mountain Colorado.

About 40 minutes past Copper and well worth it. I am a new skier and still felt like I could challenge myself here. It was so much fun. Went on a Monday, there wasn’t too many people and it was $45 lift tickets. It was a great deal. Views are amazing!!!! Stopped in the pub inside, food was good and service was quick!
Our experience at this resort was truly exceptional. The breathtaking mountains provided a fantastic backdrop, and the ski and snowboard school exceeded our expectations, with outstanding instructors who were both skilled and engaging. However, what truly distinguished our visit were the dedicated employees who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and safety. When my son had a minor fall on the mountain, Olivia in rentals took the time to listen to my mother’s concerns and addressed them with great care. Her thoughtful assistance made a significant difference. Additionally, Winter from first aid was incredibly patient and understanding, providing excellent care to both my 5-year-old and myself. We are already looking forward to returning for another memorable experience!
Absolutely love Ski Cooper!!!! I love smaller resorts- less crowded with a family feel. I went on Saturday thinking it would be busy. There was quite a crowd, but not bad at all. I love the runs- perfect for beginners. I love that with the main ski lift you can already access greens, blues, and a few blacks without going any further, if you don't want to. My only take away is I wish they had a bigger or another retail store. Other than that, another favorite resort of mine!
My favorite place to ski!!! I’ve been to a few mountains, but always want to come back to Ski Cooper. My husband and I have been going here for 15 years now. We did take a big break since Covid and having a baby, but the renovations are amazing! The staff is always the best! The most friendliest people. We love ski cooper ❤️❄️
I have visited many places to ski, but none compare to Ski Cooper. The warmth and professionalism of their team make the experience truly exceptional. Some stand out more than others, but they all share an impressive knowledge of skiing, as if they were born on skis. If you’re looking to improve your skills, Bradley is outstanding. Additionally, the rental equipment comes from top brands and offers impeccable performance. Lilly and McKenzie, true experts, will guide you in choosing the best option. The facilities are top-notch: the slopes are always in perfect condition, well-maintained, and equipped with optimal safety measures, ensuring the best experience for those who want to ski in an environment of excellence.
We took it family here to ski and snowboard Christmas week and we loved it! This was it first time skiing and boarding so we took lessons from the ski school. Our ski instructor, Larry, was awesome and very patient with us! Our daughter’s snowboard instructor was also amazing! We didn’t make it off the Family Ski Slope but we had a blast. By the end of the day, we had all gained a lot of confidence. Every employee we encountered here was very nice and welcoming. We rented all our gear from Cooper and for folks who don’t know anything it was fine. This is a very unpretentious ski resort, it was not very crowded, and it was easy to get around. We are lunch at the cafeteria and it was pretty good. Our only critique is there aren’t any places to sit and take a break except in the lunch and bar areas.
What an amazing ski resort!!! I've been all over CO. and I always see rude employees... NOT at Ski Cooper!!! The staff was super friendly, very patient and kind!!! What a spectacular venue, family friendly, full of beginner and intermediate runs, but with those double blacks as well to satisfy the seasoned skiers/snowboarders! Everything about the place was chill, not even 1 person on the slopes was angry and yelling about lines, because everyone was very respectful to everyone else!!! Of course, there's a taproom and it's very quaint but such a cool vibe inside!!!! I highly recommend taking your family here!
I’d love to keep this place a secret but man it’s just too good! Amazing prices and vibes. Came on the Thursday before Christmas and the crowds were TINY! Only con to this ski resort is the slow lifts, it took about 11 minutes to gain 1000ft of vert.

Hey everyone.... Mount Elbert is the highest peak in the Rocky Mountains in North America, with a height of 4,401 m (14,440 ft ) and it seems to me that the 2 highest mountains in the USA....In my opinion, easy, medium hiking... Be careful, don't underestimate it
The trail is long it’s better to start early so that one can finish before 2 pm and you are below treeline by 12 pm, we started at 5:15 am and finished around 1:30 pm but this included all stops and time at summit the moving time was around 6:15 hrs. The trail should be known for it’s false summit. There are atleast 3 before you hit the real summit. The day today was windy and it hit us hard above the treeline and at the summit. The views at the top were rewarding and worth the effort. The parking gets full early so it’s better to be there before 5 am on a weekday, even earlier on weekends. A great hike and the elevation does hit you at 14200 Feet, but nothing too bad if you have good lungs and are fit. Overall the trial is well kept and maintained, great class I hike to start with the 14neers
We chose the North trail, and while it’s not a bad route at all, it is quite steep. I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners or for anyone who hasn’t had time to acclimate to the altitude. There is a free parking lot with a restroom, but that’s where the infrastructure ends – which is a bit of a shame. In Poland, mountain trails often lead to huts with full service at the summit, where you can order food or a hot drink after a demanding hike. Here the trail feels wild and untouched, which is definitely worth appreciating. Still, I think it would be helpful to have small, empty huts above the tree line where hikers could take cover from the wind, which can be very strong (at least in September). That said, I’d still recommend the hike. It’s a fun adventure and a rewarding challenge.
Third time climb to Mt Elbert, one time on black cloud(south east)trail, two times on north trail. The North trail was most easy way to the summit, the black cloud was definitely the most beautiful trail and the hardest trail, the summit was amazing, will visit again.
highly recommend bringing spikes, hiked this weekend probably would've been a lot easier with spikes unless you like sprained ankles :) some ice up up top at the summit, pretty windy, about 16 miles, 5k feet elevation gain, and almost 8 hours there and back
Definitely true about the false summits! Gorgeous and fun time though!
My first 14er besides driving to Pikes Peak. It was the toughest thing I have ever completed.
Great hike for the day, started 4 AM

The Leadville National Fish Hatchery is a truly wonderful place to visit, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and educational opportunities. Here's what makes it so great: * Scenic Location: * Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the hatchery boasts breathtaking views. The subalpine forest surroundings create a serene and picturesque environment. * Being at such a high elevation, the air is crisp and clean, adding to the overall refreshing experience. * Educational Experience: * It's fascinating to learn about the history of the hatchery and its role in fish conservation. * The hatchery provides a great opportunity to see how fish are raised, and to learn about the importance of maintaining healthy fish populations. * The fact that they work with the endangered greenback cutthroat trout is very admirable. * Family-Friendly Activities: * Feeding the trout is a fun and engaging activity for visitors of all ages. * The nature trails provide opportunities for hiking and exploring the surrounding area. * The hatchery offers a great place for people to get outdoors, and enjoy nature. * Historical Significance: * Knowing that this hatchery has been around since 1889, gives visitors a sense of historical importance. Overall, the Leadville National Fish Hatchery is a fantastic destination for anyone looking to connect with nature, learn about fish conservation, and enjoy a peaceful and scenic environment. I highly recommend it!
We took our grandchildren here at the recommendation of Ken, a Leadville native. A great place for the kids to feed thousands of fish! It was also the perfect spot of the Leadville 100 mountain bike race to view the bikers!
We stopped into the Hatchery during the week. A few of the tanks were occupied but most were empty. They were doing some maintenance work as well. It wasn't a bad visit cool little quick walk through. So dropping and take a look it's worth the time
Fish Hatchery from 1890, still hatching Trout today. Self guided tour in the building consisting of 2 or 3 rooms with a viewing corridor in the main Hatchery room. Since they're still raising fish for the public you can't go into the main area of the building and there were signs everywhere reminding employees to avoid cross contamination between tanks. Outside there's a Display Pond with some MASSIVE Rainbows that you can feed at 25 cent per turn of the dispenser handle. Theres also two sets of raceways that are within walking distance of the main building. Only the set on the same side of the road had fish in it when we went, and it was the only set with a food dispenser as well. It was the week before Thanksgiving so I'm not surprised they weren't keeping all that water moving. Also on the property is a Nature Trail that goes past 6 ponds or lakes that used to be used to raise fish as well. The trail also passes the site of a demolished hotel. There's a sign with artifacts from the site with some info.
Great 1 mile hike for big and little kids. It's an easy trail with a small amount of elevation gain and loss. Pets also enjoyed the hike. You pass by a few small ponds and creeks. Bring quarters to feed the trout.
Surprisingly very neat! Love ro see the process and feed the fish... educational and grounds have several groomed trails to explore... worth an hour if in the area. No tickets needed as it is FREE! 25 cents to feed fish though...
Along our drive we set a goal to stop and see the sights. Leadville national fish hatchery was one of those sights that popped up so we took an extra turn or two and stopped by. It was interesting to learn about the rainbow trout and the hatchery itself. For a nominal fee you can purchase food to help the fish grow. There's is a hiking path right off the parking lot so you could possibly do two adventures in one stop.
Great place..Great trails 👣 Lots of fish and educational.

We went ziplining yesterday here and had amazing guides and a wonderful experience. The views were beautiful and it was ziplining from one part of the mountain to the other. I highly recommend this place!
We had the absolute best time at **Top of the Rockies Zip Line** yesterday! From start to finish, this two-hour adventure was nothing short of spectacular. Our guides, **Peter and Shoney**, were outstanding—full of great stories, fun facts, and a warm, welcoming energy that made the experience even more enjoyable. They kept things safe, professional, and entertaining the whole way through. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, and the **mountain views were breathtaking**. Flying high above the golden **aspen trees shimmering in the sunshine** was simply magical—the kind of sight that will stick with us forever. Soaring over the ridgelines with that crisp mountain air rushing past was truly **exhilarating**. This isn’t just a zip line ride—it’s an experience. Between the stunning vistas, the beauty of the aspens, the smooth ride, and the energy of our guides, it’s something I’d recommend to anyone looking for adventure in Colorado. If you’re even thinking about booking—do it. You won’t regret it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What an incredible experience! The day was absolutely gorgeous, and the team at Top of the Rockies Zipline made it even better. They were not only professional but genuinely great humans—friendly, caring, and attentive. They took the time to get to know us, made sure we were safe, and created a fun, memorable adventure high up in the trees and mountains. The views were breathtaking, the ziplines were awesome, and the overall vibe was pure joy. Our bonus daughter was nervous at first, but the team’s calm, encouraging energy helped her feel completely comfortable. She ended up loving it—and so did we! Highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure in Colorado!
Incredible day, zipping down the mountain with our three guides. They were professional, safe, but also fun and humorous. Their whole goal was to ensure we had a great experience.
We scheduled this zip line tour on our last day in Colorado, 8/25. We arrived in the pouring rain and 41degree temps. Our guide, Leland, was very reassuring that he believed the weather would break. He applied no pressure that we had to go if we weren’t comfortable. Thankfully the skies cleared and we had a beautiful day! Our group was small—only 5 of us—so we got a lot of time to appreciate the views and scenery. This was our first experience zip lining and it was fantastic! We felt safe at all times and the guides were engaging and informative as well as reassuring. Highly recommend!
This was definitely the highlight of our visit to charming Leadville and we had an absolute blast! Leland and Mario were so professional, friendly and eased my nervousness at the beginning. They were knowledgeable, fun and safety conscious. They made our experience the best with such beautiful views and history. We highly recommend to anyone even remotely considering this awesome experience!!
This place is a must-do in Colorado! All of our group had the most fun and the guides were extremely friendly and welcoming. They explained everything clearly so even as a first timer, I felt very safe. The views are incredible!
This experience was SO fun and a nice touch to our Colorado road trip adventure! The three people working here were knowledgeable about the area and told us stories about how this zip line came to be too. They were also very helpful and kind and we felt 100% comfortable with the safety of this experience. This is because each of the 6 zip lines had two cables with very big, strong carabiners and the employees were thorough and careful. The Humvee ride to the top and the very small hikes between each zip line were enjoyable as well. Would do this again with these folks for sure!

Fantastic place to learn about the Jewish history of Leadville! And what a history. Jews were a major part of the old west and ran most stores in towns like Deadwood and Leadville. Come here to learn about Jewish cowboys, gunfighters, mayors, prostitutes, and businessmen. What a shame it's all gone.
Couldn't have been more impressed with the wealth of information offered on display there, and also from the young man on the desk. What a beautifully restored synagogue, by clearly passionate individuals who have fought to keep the building and the story of the jews in this gorgeous, quaint, and highly elevated town, alive. Certainly worthy of a visit, very interesting and special little place.
Visiting this synagogue (and the nearby Jewish cemetery) was a very moving experience. The aptly created displays gave an in-depth view of small-town Western Jewish life. The assembled information and artifacts were imaginatively presented.
Really cool way to learn about Leadville history and the history of Jewish people in Leadville. The information desk man was very nice and provided a local perspective of Leadville.
I had been to Leadville twice before as an adult, and didn't know they had a one-time synagogue. This summer, I was there during the Pioneer Days and they had a sign out on Hwy. 24. Fascinating slice of Colorado and national Jewish life that, in the case of one person or two, became part of national American life, period.
It was very cool seeing this relic that closed 110 years ago. The museum person is good, you just need to get him talking. Highly recommend if you're in town.
Great little free museum showcasing the Jewish history in Leadville CO, dating back to the late 19th century. Friendly staff who knew loads about the history of the community
They accept donations. The docent there was very kind and informative. The pieces of history there were incredible. Very educational.

The view up there is amazing! You will need a good driver for sure! My husband is a great / experienced driver and there were some scary spots 😨but it’s definitely worth it!
TI live just outside of Alma. I can leave my house and within an hour be in Leadville for lunch. Beautiful panoramic views of the Rocky mountains. It is a moderate offroad capable vehicle trail, ground clearance and 4x4 recommended. Not to technical so most will be comfortable, but there is exposure, so if you're afraid of heights there are plenty of spots to turn around and abort if necessary. For me to go to Leadville via the asphalt highways it's two and a half hours. So using Mosquito to shave and hour and a half is so well worth it. Plus, it's a very scenic and fun to drive. It does have a short season. Usually opens in July and can be run till the snow starts to fly.
Gets a little rocky, had a stock TRD PRO premium and made it through. There's a fork in the road coming down from the top into alma. Don't go right, its private property and they have it blocked off.
Incredible run... Absolutely need a high clearance 4 wheel drive. Amazing views, lots off roads and photo ops. Weather can change quickly, so dress appropriately.
I drove Mosquito Pass recently, and the farther you go, the more serious your off-road vehicle needs to be. In my opinion, a locking differential isn’t really necessary — I didn’t see any spots that required it. Along the way I even saw moose, which made the trip feel even more wild and remote. As you climb higher, you definitely feel the lack of oxygen up top. There’s a section where the trail gets so narrow that turning around would be very difficult, so you need to commit once you go in. The place is absolutely epic and 100% worth it. I even found a small cave up there, which made the whole adventure feel surreal
For expert off road drivers it is a lot of fun. For beginners it is very dangerous. Drive very slowly on the decent.
Made it up in a stock Ram. You'll want to be in 4lo the whole time up and down. The views are amazing! Would recommend
For experienced dirt bike adventurers it is a lot of fun, but for beginners, maybe not. It can be very dangerous in some areas. Anyone can get to the bottom of the mountain, but towards the top is where the FUN starts.

I recently took the guided tour and really enjoyed everything about it. I got to meet three of the docents and they were all friendly and welcoming. They love the history of the building and enjoy sharing their knowledge. I had my little dog with me and one of the docents (Brenda) sat with Juni while I took the tour. I recommend that you tour the Opera House, or, better yet, see a show. There were no shows scheduled during my brief time in Leadville.
Wonderful experience.......just like I remembered as a kid. So much history to learn about and see. Recommend to anyone that loves history and stories!
As an opera and history nerd, this was the highlight of my trip to Leadville! I have been in love with The Ballad of Baby Doe since college and I was so happy to learn the true stories of Augusta, Horace, and Baby Doe during my tour. I was sad to not be able to see Baby Doe’s cabin during my trip because it was closed for the season, but this tour more than made up for it. I even got to sing a little bit of the opera in the house itself, which was such a treat! Thank you for keeping such a beautiful piece of history alive. The building, staff, and experience were all gorgeous.
We took the 1 hour tour on 8/18 at 2pm and it was fantastic. The tour guide knew her stuff, was efficient and informative, and did a great job of reeling in the talkative patrons that wanted to detail the tour. There's 3 floors of history to see and some great surprises, especially in the theater dressing rooms. For $12, I can highly recommend.
We were really looking forward to experiencing a play at this historic opera house. Everything was completely unorganized. From entering to purchase tickets at the door, we were never told that there was a vip event going on. We were asked to wait to enter, which we did. Once we finally were allowed to enter, we were assisted to our seats, which were supposed to be General Admission. However, seating was instead being suggested. The performance itself, was quite entertaining, but we left at intermission. The story seemed quite complete, and the seats while very vintage and beautiful, were very uncomfortable being made only of wood. We simply did not wish to endure another hour plus of this particular venue. Best of luck for this historic theatre, but please get your act together. Pun intended?
Lots of history here. Walk on stage, under the stage, backstage. Play the piano on stage. You can do it. You can walk where thousands of others have over the many many years. Probably touch a few door handles and whatnot that have been touched by famous celebrities. It's a very surreal feeling as we walked around looking at the beauty of this time piece. Things will change. I'm not sure how all it will change but this historical site is going to be sold to the city of Leadville. I would imagine that the city will do a great job preserving and showing off this gem of a place. I'm glad we paid the fee to get in. It wasn't bad and only $2 for 12 and under. I think it was $12 for adults. But all this will probably change after the summer of 2016.
One of the main attractions in Leadville, CO. It is preserved and doesn't look refurbished at all, old rustic look. They still have shows so it's a working Opera House.
Steeped in history. Much more interesting on the inside than the view from the outside would have you believe. A great tour although too rushed as so much to take in. A beautiful theatre - would love to see a show there.

Brenda, a former miner herself was our tour guide. She has some amazing insight into this mine, the life of miners and the history of the Tabor family. If you're in Leadville do yourself a favor and check out this gem and pay a little extra for the guided tour! It's definitely worth it if you enjoy history and want to learn a little more about the history of this area of Colorado. Discounts are given for seniors , AAA membership etc. It is cash only.
$10pp for a self guided tour or $15pp for a guided tour. The tour does not include entry into the mine, at all. The tour includes walking from printed display to printed display, most of which are outside. There are two structures, one of which was where the owner of the mine lived for some time, and the other has more materials used in the mining/metal evaluation process. I think the price for what you get is a bit steep; there are (free) stops on the side of the road that offer more than this place. The people working here are nice enough, and they do offer some discounts ($.50 off) but yeah... There isn't much to this place.
Awesome history of Leadville. Thank you to the gentleman who was extremely knowledgeable about the mine and provided excellent facts today. 7.28.25.
Our visit to Matchless Mine was so much better than I anticipated - I highly recommend it! Our tour guide, Brenda, was incredible. Hand's down the best tour guide I've ever had the pleasure of meeting! She captured our imagination and introduced us to the people involved in the mine's (and region's) history in an engaging and captivating way. Her energy and passion for the tale was infectious and stirring! Thank you, Brenda!
Our tour guide Brenda was engaging, informative and quite fun! Brenda, a former miner, has a great passion and insight regarding the mining history in this area, as well as the Tabor family. Not only did we learn an abundance of history about Leadville, we gained a new friend! Put this on your list of things to do in Leadville!
My friends and I enjoyed a purely pleasant and informative tour experience led by Brenda. She is clearly passionate about Colorado mining and Leadville’s history. The way she talked about both was enthralling. Taking a guided tour of the Matchless Mine is a must-do while in Leadville!
The matchless mine is a well preserved silver mine that plays a prominent place in Colorado's mining history. Visitors can can take either a self guided tour or else a guided tour of the property to learn the history of the Tabor family that owned the mine. Both tours are worth taking. We took the guided tour a few years ago. This time, we took the self guided tour because we had our young grandson with us. There are numerous places where descriptive signs explain how the mine operated.
The tour guide was wonderful and sweet. Fairly priced. I loved the gold panning table. I also LOVED the mini diagram of the mines. I also love how the woman there had person experience in mines.

Very fun and educational museum, learned a lot about the local history of mining, indigenous peoples, and railroads, as well as Alfred Packer. Our docent was awesome and shared many good stories and answered questions knowledgeably.
What a great historic site! Main house plus cabin are both truly accurate representations of the era. Docents were all very knowledge and had great stories to share.
Julie, our tour guide was excellent. This tour was an unexpected treat. Great history of Leadville and the people in it. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
My husband and I went during business hours this past Saturday. No one was in the gift store and a woman came to the front and asked if we could be helped. We asked about taking a tour of the house, and she advised it was by appointment only. Of course, we asked if we could make an appointment, but she said that she was "very busy" and was working "things" out. Mind you, there was not another soul in the building. We were told we could pay $3 each to view the exhibits room only and were not given any opportunity to make an appointment for a tour. We drove from northern Colorado to Leadville just to see the house, so this was very disappointing.
Efrain gave the best tour. My partner and I were celebrating our anniversary and we had a great time. The garden was beautiful! I will most definitely be enjoying a coffee and a good read in the garden all summer long. Julie was very friendly and helpful. I’m so glad we had the opportunity to experience the museum.
Julie gave a wonderful tour to my family and was very patient with my young kids. Well preserved house and cabin, excellent for antique lovers!
Excellent find. Great tour guide, Julie, very informative and friendly. So interesting and a place worth visiting. Highly recommend it.
Showed up at 11:33 and was told the 11:30 tour had already started and we would need to come back at 1 and refused to let us join. Show up early or you’ll be turned away

Great spot with a varied selection of goods. I found some wonderful turquoise rings there and the staff was super friendly. Worth a stop!
loved getting lost in here!!!! room after room after room (& then a lush & overflowing upstairs too!!!) full of vintage playboys ($2 off your birth month/yr!), sci-fi mags, license plates, levi’s, cashmere sweaters, first ed books, jars jars & more jars, FOSSILS (!!) & practically anything else you can name. so many fun tchotchkes & beautiful antique items and silly quirky oddities. got a noam chomsky book & a vintage NY grapes advertisement for $7. especially appreciated the spare coin jar for imperfect cash payments, that is really sweet.
Buyers beware- owner labels goods a certain price but will charge you a different and much higher price at the register. When questioned about this, the owner became very agitated and unstable- maybe this has been a complaint before? He started screaming something about Texas (not sure why), told us we didn’t need to buy from him and to leave. Shocked by his ranting we gladly obliged. Hopefully things improve for him and he gets to a better place soon.
This place is amazing! Prices are quite reasonable considering the quality and variety of items available. We came home with 4 items for just $135. It is very fun to wander around inside and well worth your time even if you're just stopping by. Plus - it's an excellent way to wait out a mountain hail storm during lunch time!
You can find anything from a cute vintage hat to old snowshoes for your wall to a cat themed coloring book or meme stickers. Worth a visit for sure if you’re swinging through Leadville! Perhaps I’m not in tune with how much antique-y things cost, but their prices do seem…high. And therefore I didn’t buy anything. Found a few things I was interested in but then my eyes popped out of my head when a small wall hanging tucked that I found tucked behind a jar with a hefty layer of dust on it was $350. Quirky place.
This shop was so fun to browse and walk through—HUGE selection. The staff was very helpful and kind, loved getting to meet them. The whole place was unique and we found some awesome treasures.
Awesome store in town. I’ve bought fly rods, backpacks, dead shirts. They have sold some items on consignment for me as well. The staff, especially Dan, is always super helpful and friendly.
How has this place stayed in business? I witnessed the most outrageous encounter today. A young professional woman tried to enter this shop. She politely asked an old man if she could get buy him at the door. The shopkeeper yelled at her uncalled for and then if that wasn’t enough he chased her down the street accusing her of stealing .At the top of his lungs, no less. It was slander and she should sue him for liable. I imagine she was not the first to be treated so badly. As a former business owner I have no tolerance for this type of behavior. I will NEVER shop there.

Wow! Leadville has an amazing interesting history. Museum is recommended
Extensive explanation of the town's history, but it is broken down into digestible pieces. This museum also details the Ice Palace and WWII 10th Mountain Division. They have Soo many artifacts and a great collection of mining technology. I also love that this museum is in the old library
Better in my opinion than the mining museum although smaller and simpler exhibits. Worth a visit more so than the mining museum and definitely more affordable.
Pretty good, not great. They have a series of dioramas that tell the history of Leadville, plus a lot of memorabilia from former residents. Budget 45 minutes to an hour to stroll through.
Unfenced outdoor museum with about a dozen buildings. All but one doors were locked, due to covid. Good explanations are located on the buildings and in a brochure.
Quaint museum but a lot to see. Very interesting.
Awesome Museum about the history of leadville area!

4WD definitely required to get to the top from either side. The Leadville approach was prettier IMO and much shorter. The other side is pretty deep in the valley and doing the whole loop from Leadville to Basalt to Eagle and back takes several hours, especially with stops for photos! Great views everywhere though!
Did the full pass east to west. I would say the Leadville side is more technical but still has great views in a few spots but once you hit the summit and head down towards the west its still slightly technucal but views are amazing from the summit all the way down.
Gravel road was in a good condition very easy to drive up
Great pass but definitely you need to know what the f your doing, great scenic route, it will take you about 3 to 4 hours to get to the other side and finally find pavement, 4x4 with off-road and high clearance cars are absolutely needed
Tough in some spots- it’s a dirt road but when you get to the little break spot, the scenery is unbelievable and there’s awesome trails to hike. There’s a ghost town if you take the Hagerman tunnel trail up and then a beautiful blue lake at the end. We didn’t make it to the tunnel because of the snow but you definitely could get through w/ proper attire
Did this route as my planned path thru Aspen to Leadville was not open. Subaru outback held up great just had to take it slow with it's clearance. Wish I had known how much of the route required high clearance beforehand but that's on me. If I ever do it again Id much rather drive it during the day though :)
Sketchy, with a 4wd 4Runner. Not worth it.
Drove this in a Ford 250 PU 2 wheel drive in 1974. Took us 3 1/2 hours to go 17 miles--one of the best rides of my life!
