Highly recommended! No doubt the best bar/restaurant in downtown Morristown. Come here instead of 1776 please!! because 1776 is trash compared to Jockey Hollow!!. JH Ambiance 👍🏽👍🏽. History is cool. Bar and restaurant are pretty awesome. Service was superb! Jason (our bartender) was great! Made me a perfect Old Fashioned and he even toured us to the other bar of the restaurant. That’s service! We had oysters and they were on point! I will come back here to check out the restaurant. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Great food, great service but if you're looking for a quieter atmosphere, this is not the place. Don't get me wrong, the ambiance is great if you're looking for the bar scene. If you're looking to enjoy your meal without people standing around you then this is not your place. The food was amazing and the drinks were to die for! Kudos to the chef, our waiter and the bartender.
The Washington Room is always the best experience. The staff were amazing and made it feel very welcoming from the moment we sat down to the moment we left. The food was extremely delicious and the whole experience is why we've been coming back to celebrate our anniversary for the past 4 years and probably many more years to come. Pro tip: always get the octopus
Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen is a must try. The interior and exterior architecture is beautiful. We sat at the Vail Bar for Happy Hour for 1/2 price glasses of wine and draft beer. The wine selection is excellent and the beer choices adequate. The $2 oysters were super fresh. The hummus with Calabrian peppers and double smash burger w/fries were delicious. The service was impeccable thanks to our bartenders Taylor and Gabriel.
I wish I had something bad to say about this place but honestly everything was incredible from start to finish! From the old world decor to the amazing martinis to the downright delicious cheddar biscuits. This is my new favorite haunt! And do yourself a favor & get a drink at the bar a nice burger and explore !
Disappointing experience second time as well. We reserved to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The food and service has become mediocre sadly. All server staff needs lots of training. We requested to clean our table as something was spilled after the appetizer round and the lady ignored nodded and walked away. Then again asked the server and he decided to clean. The server were new not experienced to serve at a fine dinning restaurant more better suited if they work around at a taco joint. I ordered a whole branzino fish - which was served head taken off, medium to small whole fish by itself on top of two soggy egg plant slices full of seeds. They don’t go well - soggy eggplant with fish. No other sides at all - the sever didn’t suggest that we should order a side of anything as the fish literally comes by it self with some sauce and topped with little green on it, you are eating oily grilled fish without any spice by itself - where is the chef’s creativity!? Why didn’t the server mention to order sides that can go with it. My son ordered a pasta - you see the picture below pasta was watery!! With pieces of octopus floating in the pasta. How can you make and serve watery sauce pasta with more white beans and less pasta - truly unimpressed. Apparently, the chicken was made good no complains other than the sever making a fuss about replacing broccoli raab with quinoa, a simple small request by guests spending over $500 in food and wine was accommodated after a long discussion, thankfully. (This was mentioned in the allergy section by us saying no pork no broccoli raab) Appetizers were excellent. Try the salads, octopus and oysters all three were excellent!! Dessert cheesecake and chocolate cake were okay as they should be. Nothing special.
Our server, Ryan, was great! He went out of his way to tell us the specials and show us what they look like before we ordered. He was very attentive and answered all our questions.
We came for Valentine's Dinner. We waited 30 minutes to be asked what we wanted to drink, another 30 for our appetizers, and another 30 for our entrees. Our waiter was uninformed about the menu, barely said a word to us, and never once asked us if we wanted another drink or how everything was. Twice the waiters tried to bring us dessert when we hadn't received our main course yet. We were never asked if we wanted coffee or another beverage with or after dessert. The food was absolutely delicious, but we ordered the $38 duck supplement for two, which was mislabeled as a supplement when it was a replacement for the entrees, which the waiter was unaware of. We paid $38 extra to replace our entrees with one that was not nearly large enough for two people. It was, however, delicious. Whenever we've come in the past, we have always had a great time. It is an absolute travesty that on a special night like valentine's night, everything fell apart. We paid nearly $150 per head after "supplements" and cocktails, and I would be disappointed at the experience for 1/3rd that price. I would never come back for a special occasion, which is a shame because of how much we love the restaurant on a normal night out. The only reason I'm giving an overall three stars instead of two is because our previous experiences at the restaurant have been much better, and the food was quite good even if it took us forever to receive it and it wasn't quite what we were expecting based on the menu and our waiter's clear lack of awareness of what he was serving.

A truly delightful park – beautifully maintained and incredibly spacious. The grounds are immaculate, the house is charming, and the flower garden is simply magnificent. Every corner feels thoughtfully cared for. It’s a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature’s beauty. Highly recommended for a peaceful and inspiring visit!
Holy smokes! This place is gorgeous. The gardens are so beautiful I wanted to stay all day. Many well groomed paths to walk on, water features, and an old mansion are some of the highlights. Would come back again!
Wonderful place in Morristown, it’s a hidden gem in the area. Many varieties of flowers and plants are there. Walking trails are also great. Good place for family gatherings. Many bees are around, so beware when you come with kids. Ample parking 🅿️ spaces available.
1. Walkability – A wonderful place for a peaceful walk. The trails and paths are well laid out and surrounded by beautiful trees and gardens. 2. Photography – If you love nature photography, this is a must-visit! So many picturesque spots with flowers, textures, and serene corners. 3. Maintenance – The arboretum is well-maintained, clean, and clearly cared for. The gardens are lovely and inviting. 4. Parking – There is parking available, which makes access very convenient. 5. Hours – My only issue was that I arrived around 9:00 AM (as listed on Google), but the main gate was closed. I had to leave and return around 10:00 AM when it was open. It would be helpful if the hours were clearer or updated online. Overall: A beautiful, calming space perfect for walks, photos, and a quiet moment with nature. I’ll definitely return!
The Frelinghuysen Arboretum is an absolute gem—a beautifully maintained oasis that feels like a living work of art. The grounds are impeccable, with thoughtfully laid-out paths leading to vibrant flower beds, perfectly pruned roses, and serene woodland corners. It blends elegance and natural beauty so well, from the stately historic mansion to the scenic lawns and winding trails. Whether you’re a gardener, photographer, or just looking for a peaceful escape, it’s truly exceptional. Highly recommended for anyone who loves beautiful, well-kept gardens.
My family and I had such a wonderful time at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum today! We tried the scavenger hunt and it was such a fun way to explore the park while also learning about the different plants and vegetation. It made the visit interactive for all of us, and we’re already looking forward to coming back and doing it on a monthly basis. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and so well maintained! It's the perfect place to stroll, relax, and enjoy nature. Next time, we’re planning to bring a picnic and spend even more time soaking it all in. Such a gem in our community!
Went here last year during summer morning and was amazing, there was a lot of birds chirping and squirrels. It was fun to see the little fairy houses built there. The area is really quiet and peaceful to go for a walk or just to sit on a bench and get lost in your thoughts. Recommended if you enjoy nature
It is so beautiful and peaceful. Very clean and maintenaid. There are so many areas to do a picnic, a family or friends gathering. Huge tent great for weddings. A must to take special pictures. Highly recommend.

Slide 1 of 8
Morristown National Historical Park is a unique and terrific historic park located in Morristown, NJ. The park consists of four different sites including: Jockey Hollow, Fort Nonsense, the Ford Mansion, and Washington’s Headquarters Museum. If you’re planning to see all of the sites of the park, come prepared to drive to them and also plan your trip to be a few hours. It is best to start with the Washington’s Headquarters Museum in the park. Here there is a nice movie presented about the importance of Morristown during the Revolutionary War. Thousands of artifacts are on display in the museum. Some of the best include George Washington’s inaugural sword, rare books from the Colonial area, a harpsichord, Revolutionary War military wares, and objects from everyday life in the eighteenth century. The rangers at the museum are helpful and willing to answer any question. Near the museum is the Ford Mansion. The Ford Mansion is a must see as it is where George Washington stayed while at Morristown. Tickets are given at the museum on a first come, first serve basis. Fort Nonsense provides an excellent view of the city of Morristown. Here the outline of a fort that was built on the orders of George Washington can be seen. It also provides a nice place to picnic or take a short hike. At Jockey Hollow you can see the re-creations of the Continental Army’s campsite. There are several exhibits here about camp life and the different units that made up the Continental Army. This is also a great place to take a walk. The park offers a lot to do even if you’re not a fan of history. The exhibits in the museum are presented in a lively and engaging way. Though it may not be as well known as other Revolutionary War historical parks, Morristown presents a great park for everyone to see!
This is an awesome historical park to visit in Morristown! There are three main areas you can explore, each offering different experiences. I started at the museum, which is physically in Morristown. The museum has detailed exhibits on Washington and his troops’ experiences while staying in the area. The exhibits are well done, and there are maps available. I then went to Fort Nonsense, which is not far from the museum, where I got to read a number of historical plaques and look toward NYC at an overlook. On a clear day, you can see the tops of some of the tallest towers in NYC, including the Freedom Tower. To end my trip, I went out to Jockey Hollow. There are many hiking trails and historical markers at Jockey Hollow. I saw some preserved soldier huts and the Wick Farmhouse. I toured the Wick House on a guided tour with a ranger for free. I would love to go back and hike in this area! Overall, great park!
Very informative. We loved walking around and looking at all the artifacts and replicas. The 15 minute video was informative. We did do the tour of the mansion. Tickets are free but the tour is only at certain times. The tour guide was excellent. He spoke loud enough to be heard by the entire group and waited until the group was all together before continuing with the discussions. Really enjoyed it.
We were passing through on the 4th of July on a road trip and we stumbled upon this wonderful historical site. The Ford house was also open (where Washington actually lived) and we were able to tour it, as well. Because it was the 4th, there was a reenactment, reading of the Declaration of Independence, and musket firing. What a delight!
An awesome destination to visit for history and NPS lovers! Seeing the museum with some of George Washington's personal belongings was amazing. The grounds are also fun to explore and walkthrough. There was a fair amount of construction going on when I visited so be aware. I also drove through the Jockey Hollow area and it was a very peaceful place to go for a walk.
The Visitor Center, Ford Mansion and Jockey Jollow- where Washington and his troops spent a horrible winter, better than Valley Forge-- are fascinating pieces of American history. The museum is both informative and interactive, whether you're an adult or a child. Small kidsight find the Ford Mansion, where Washington headquartered, a bit dull. We drove through Jockey Hollow on the history trail, but there are also hiking trails. The walk to the recreated soldiers' huts but is steep and on dirt and gravel, not handicapped accessible. A great way to spend the day, especially with the country's 250th birthday coming up in 2026.
Throwback to the times of American revolution. It feels great to be at the same place and actual room from where George Washington commanded his armies. Definitely worth the visit!
Washington’s Birthday is Feb 22 same as my eternal baby Ring. Divine alignment

The Morris Museum is a hidden gem in the heart of New Jersey. You get amazing value for your money and they have a cool selection of things to look at. All the staff are really friendly and very excited about the exhibits. I would highly recommend this place especially for kids because they have a lot of interactive exhibits and opportunities for learning. But even for adults it’s really fascinating and I think everyone would have a good time here!
Rainy Day Delight at The Morris Museum We visited The Morris Museum on a rainy day and were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it. The museum is surprisingly compact, making it easy to navigate even with young children. We were impressed by the diverse exhibits, ranging from fascinating local history to engaging science displays and beautiful art collections. There was even a small, dedicated area for kids with interactive elements that kept them entertained. We were able to comfortably explore the entire museum in under two hours, making it a perfect option for a quick and enriching outing. Our little one wasn't big enough to experience the hands on elements but were excited for when she is!! We're considering a family membership as it would be worth returning when exhibits rotate. Great quick outing!
I visited only one section of the museum - Murtogh Guinness collection of mechanical musical instruments and automata. This is an interesting topic, to my knowledge not well represented anywhere else, so the museum is quite unique. The labelling is quite good, but I also highly recommend a tour which is included in the museum admission. It also allows you to here some music boxes and see automatons in action.
I was a great experience. There was so much to see and do, plus the model lionel trains were incredible. There is a crystal display that was amazing. Also native American display and other exhibits from around the world.
The museum/mansion is a smaller museum, it had an amazing collection of arts, easy to navigate, clean and had nice a/c on a hot day, bathrooms were clean as well, had a little souvenir shop as well
It's spectacular. Such an amazing, learning and visual experience. A real family fun adventure. We have been multiple times and every time we go there is a new exhibit.
Great museum with exhibits on local Native Americans, the spectacular Guinness music box and player piano/instrument collection. There are other permanent and temporary exhibits including New Jersey sculptors, Oaxacan Tapestry and Weaving exhibit, sculptor Michael Malpass collection, Oceania art collection, huge model train exhibit and other collections. There are activities for young children including a dinosaur exhibit. Geological rock specimens, most from New Jersey, is small but interesting. There is plenty of parking, a gift shop and the Bickford theater. Highly recommend this museum for all ages.
We went there for the train show section. It was very nice and the kids loved it. The kid interactive room should be opened and bigger in my opinion. There are good exhibitions there. This small museum has a lot of potential to attract more kids and more parents in surrounding towns if they expand the kids' section and make it more open without timing/reservation of the room. As a parent, I am willing to pay more for more kids activities if provided weekly and more things for kids to do. There aren't a lot of kids museums in North NJ.

Historic house at Morristown national historic Park. If you like history this is a must see. Very well maintained. Furnished well. There is a small gift shop and also a small museum in the gift shop building/visitor center that is cool. Be sure to check out the bottom floor for exhibits. Tickets are free but you have to sign up and get them at the visitor center. Tour days and hours are limited. Basically Fri-Sun 11-3. Be sure to check if they are open. They do close periodically for renovations, special events, etc.
The Ford Mansion is one of the earliest house museums in the US and is located in Morristown National Historical Park. The Georgian style house was built by Jacob Ford, who died as a member of the Continental Army in 1777. During the winter of 1779-80 George Washington used the home as his headquarters. Many other prominent members of the army such as Alexander Hamilton also stayed in the house. While the Continental Army occupied the house the Ford family stayed upstairs. To see the mansion you have to go get tickets at the Washington’s Headquarters Museum. Tour times are posted on the park’s webpage. Tickets are given out on a first come and first serve basis. Tickets are free. The guided tour of the house was excellent. The guide gave a history of the house and each of the room’s. The house is decorated as to what it might’ve looked like when Washington lived in it. The guide also added much detail about what the house would’ve been like with so many soldiers present. As with many houses from this time period, it is really unique to see the architecture of the time. In some rooms the ceilings and floors are slightly slanted. The tour for the house is about an hour long and extremely interesting. When visiting the park make sure to see this historic mansion!
We had an wonderful docent who gave an excellent guided tour of the Ford mansion. She provided great context about the house, and history during that time period.
Wonderful history of the extreme difficulties experienced by revolutionary militia and army. Beautiful house with nooks and crannies full of stories and historical decorative arts and furniture. Wish there was a catalog of the items available.
Beautiful home. The tour guide was awesome. He did a great job with details about the significant historical events
Interesting tour of the house where Washington and his staff wintered in 1779-80. Note that you have to get free timed passes from the museum on the property. We got there just before 11 and ended up on the 12 tour and I could see on a nice spring day, you might have trouble getting tickets. Our guide was terrific and it is definitely worth a stop.
General Washington's winter quarters (1779-1780) at the Ford mansion in Morristown NJ. The associated museum is interesting and our tour guide was excellent.
Amazing history. Makes one truly proud to be an American to understand just how much these men and women sacrificed and endured to create and secure our freedoms and our nation.

Most flowers only around for few days. Spring to July there’s always a new flower surprise!
Easy paved path, with some unpaved trails, through a beautiful reservation. Babbling brooks, horses (as well as horse poop), deer and birds are a common sight while hiking. Clean restrooms, picnic areas, playgrounds and bike rentals available.
Loved walking the trails at Loantaka Brook Reservation this Spring. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of parking, handicap as well. The grounds, restrooms, playgrounds and trails were all well maintained. The trails were wide and offered both paved and unpaved and they had occasional benches along the way. The paved trail was mostly flat and wheelchair friendly. Everyone we encountered on the trails … on foot, cycle, horseback were all courteous of others. I especially liked that the wooded areas were somewhat cleared which allowed for beautiful views of nature and wildlife, as opposed to some other parks where the trails are narrow and densely covered feeling as though there’s nothing to see. Along the trails we passed a pond, bridges, streams and babbling brooks.
Great spot for running and biking. Flat. Lots of paved trails, so it is great for little kids learning how to bike. They also have picnic tables. And very modern and clean bathrooms. Police was present on the parking lot (at least a car was there). Definitely coming back.
Great park, stream runs next to the horse trail that my dog loves to run in. Great for small and long walks. My boyfriend loves to run here too. Huge beautiful grass fields.
An exceptional park with miles of trails and well-maintained, as are most Morris County-based parks. While the landscape could benefit from some cleanup of old fencing and unkempt brushes, overall I walked half the mileage and am eager to complete the rest at a later date. There are various entry ways in which offers ample parking, latrines, picnic areas, benches and even a playground with some workout stations along the way. I do a LOT of hiking throughout Morris and Sussex and this is being added to my list for location and scenery.
This park has nice paved trails for biking, walking and jogging. The park has a small lake at the entrance with benches and small brooks along the trails. We went bike riding there during the weekend and the trails are very peaceful, quiet and scenic. Some areas are shaded with trees while other areas are more open space. We rode for an hour and a half, taking breaks and sitting on the many benches along the trails to relax. It's a great area for a safe, family friendly ride.
This is a great place for a family sunday. You can run, walk, skate, ride a bicicle or even a horse. The whole trail is very easy without hill. The view is peaceful and beautiful. I will recommend for anyone with kids that want to burn some energy before meal. You can also walk you dog (with leash). Definitely I will keep bringing my family each weekend.

My family and I went there for the first time this weekend, we had a blast! For $30/pp (children 3 and under are free) this includes: a tracker ride around the entire farm, which is longer than most tracker rides I’ve done at apple and pumpkin farms, a corn maze if you want to go through it, one pumpkin each, and you receive one apple picking tote per person. The price of the fruit you pick isn’t included but all in all I think it’s a very fair deal. It’s clean, well organized, everyone was very nice and helpful and their food stands and store had a ton of really delicious items to pick from. They also have a huge picnic area. We usually go to Chester every fall but this was a really great alternative as Chester has become very crowded this time of year. We got there at 9 when they opened and we didn’t wait on any lines. I highly recommend this place!
Eight man Farms has been our go to for years. Everything about this place is top-notch and the quintessential fall experience. it’s family owned and operated and they treat you like you’re part of their family. Whether you are interested in a pumpkin, hayride, some homemade donuts, or a variety of. Fresh plants and flowers you will not be disappointed. Visiting this form as the highlight of our fall season. Treat yourself and your family to a wonderful experience and go there today. God Bless America! God Bless Blue & Gold! Remember Everyone Deployed Everyday!
The service is top notch! And the food is made with love and high quality. My favorites are the salads! They are sooooooo good! They have everything, veggie salads, pasta salads, the chicken and tuna salad is phenomenal. They come in perfect sized containers, I buy a couple for work and eat them for lunch. Perfect on the go meal and conveniently packed. I hope this place is around forever.
One important thing that they do, is not accept credit card, one down and the second everything is very pricey. And you have to pay for very high entrée and finally almost everything has a not riped and what does not have that sign does not have any fruit very disappointed
My kids and I wanted to go apple picking. Entrance fee to the farm was $30 per person, which includes all their activities, plus you pay almost $4/lb for the apples you pick. I asked if there is another ticket to just go apple picking, and the man at the register told me that if I just want apples I can buy apples at the store. Lol, not a problem! We want to a nearby farm and picked without entrance fee, $2.50/lb. Probably $30/pp would be worth it to spend a day and do all the activities, but was not worth it for our purposes.
Great farm to spend an afternoon picnicking. Many options available. Fantastic store, I love farm stores for their authenticity
The farm was nice, however I don't think its worth the cost of $30 per personnwhen you go to your family, as it doesn't offers another attraction than the truck ride. Id suggest to invest on games for kids, animals, or some other attraction. We only spent 2.5 hours, as there's nothing else to do, and these days the entrance price, undoubtedly, makes an impact on the experience.
Took the family today to go apple and peach picking. The farm was beautiful and all the workers were very friendly. They had really good looking pies, and we were lucky enough to snag the last pecan pie of the day. Will be coming back for sure.

Loved it here! They have vintage baseball and other historical events on the grounds! Beautiful well maintained buildings and even a small farm! There’s heaps to do here and it’s entertainment for everyone!
Cool combination of the farm and green open spaces / fields as well as historical buildings and family transportation museum. Farm animals are present but they weren’t main draw of the visit. Although mansion is closed for renovation now, cottage as well as few other buildings were open. Short blue marked trail winds from the pond area through the woods to arched entrance of mansion’s road.
I've been several times, but really liked going to the wool festival! It's a pleasant place to walk around and look at the farm animals and historic buildings. They give really cool sheep shearing demonstrations and it's so much fun getting to see how things were done in the past. The kids really love it, but I enjoy it as an adult as well.
Staff were super polite and very helpful. My lady and I had a fantastic time seeing the farm, visiting the museum and taking a look at everything. All the animals were also very nice. The transportation section was very cool, loved seeing the Model T Ford. We'll definitely be back!
If you’re into history at all, this place is a must see. It’s like stepping backwards in time. The animals are all very cute too. You can feed chickens, and pet the cows + goats. Linda was very kind and knowledgeable!
This place was absolutely beautiful. So much history. The employees were extremely knowledgeable and so friendly. They wore clothing from 18 and 17 hundreds. The animals were well cared for and so friendly. We dyed silk and spun yarn and toured the homes and walked the property and picked pumpkins and pressed cider. We had such a lovely time. I would definitely recommend and do this again.
My sister and I took our kids here on a Saturday morning. We arrived at 10 and were one of the first groups in. Be advised you need to buy tickets ahead online. We thought the rules would be super strict but because it wasn't crowded, things were more lax which I sincerely appreciate. There is walking involved so wear good shoes for sure! The staff was helpful and kind, the animals all seemed incredibly happy and healthy. We couldn't have had a better day, honestly. I look forward going again in the Fall. I can only imagine how beautiful it will be when the colors change.
We had a great 1st visit to Fosterfields!

nice trails in this area and a lovely area to have a picnic (they have several picnic tables). they also have grills here too if you wanted to barbecue. there is a small stream and a lake. there is some parking spaces as well. overall a nice place to enjoy nature and hang out by yourself or with friends and family. would come back and try a different trail
I loved this place such a beautiful nature quite and not crowded Picnic area with bbq grills A beach lake for swimming Hiking and mountain biking
This park is gorgeous and has lovely trails for hiking and on leash dog walking. Lots of streams, bridges and trail options. Sadly the off leash dog park is less inviting. Gates don't latch properly. There is a small dog and big dog pen, a few benches. Most of the dog park is paved and not nice for running dog paws. No water available in the fenced area, but a seasonal water fountain is nearby. Porta potty avail off season. Just go for a hike with your pooch.
Great park, plenty of parking, short or long trails depending on your desired activity level. Most of them have some grades to them, a bit of uphill or downhill, but nothing too difficult. The trails are marked, but slightly more clearer marking would be great. There's a small lake as well with a beach area that didn't seem too crowded during our visit, but the trails are what we focused on, and they were absolutely empty. Very peaceful.
Lota of wide open spaces. Lots of trails for walks and hiking. An exploratory trip here says I will be visiting here in the summertime for sure, though I wager it will be nowhere near as deserted as it was this day. There are several parking annexes, and several different areas to the park. There is a baseball diamond area, there is a boating/swimming pond area, and there is an open area for eating. First trip here was an early expedition. Will be sure to update this review and add more photos after a proper 2nd trip.
We attended a hiking club picnic in the shelter on 6/14/25. It was pleasant despite rainy weather. The hiking trails are quite scenic with very nice views. Highly recommend this park.
Beautiful park with a rural feel to it in the middle of suburbia. Ample trails in many spots which lead out to one another. Excellent parking and good signage make for a seamless experience.
Great trails to hike. We hiked the yellow trail and enjoyed it. Trails are mostly well marked. A few places where it can get confusing but download a map prior and you'll be good. Would definitely visit again and explore the other trails available.

Fort Nonsense is a part of the Morristown National Historical Park in Morristown, New Jersey. The park sits on top of a hill that has scenic views of Morristown. On a clear day it is possible to see parts of the skyline of New York City. The park is relatively small, but at the sametime it is scenic and historic. You can see the outlines of the old fort and there is signage explaining it very well. The purpose of the fort was an observation and alarm post in case of a British attack during the American Revolution. Such an attack never came It is easy to drive to the top park. There is also a nice walking/hiking trail that can be followed to the location. There is room for about 10 vehicles in the parking lot. If you’re touring Morristown National Historical Park this is worth a look. Come here to enjoy the history and the view!
Tiny park with a super short hike up a grade to the top of the hill overlooking Morristown and surrounding areas. Nice view and a quick little workout.
Great overlook with historical markers. There are a number of historical plaques and an overlook that views NYC. On a clear day, you can see the tops of some of the tallest towers in NYC, including the Freedom Tower. I also recommend going to the museum and to Jockey at Morristown National Historical Park
It's a short drive up the hill to Fort Nonsense. There isn't much of a fort left, this former earthwork fort had a strategic view over the city but never saw any action. Some called it fort Nonsense as an effort to just keep the troops busy. The fort walls are marked in cobblestone in the ground giving you an idea of the size of the fort. It was pretty small.
We swung by a deli and picked up lunch to eat at the top of the hill at the picnic tables. There are several hiking trails to walk around an interesting history about the location on top of the hill. Great view of the surrounding area.
Not many people know about this place. It’s One of the best spots for viewing sunsets in Morristown! Beautiful in all seasons! Closes very early but amazing place ! Must visit!
Hmn well you drive up a lon road and you see a hill and then well thsts it. The views of the city are great but overall not much to see. There is a no fort just some brick outline of where it used to be and forest. I suggest driving because its a steep hill and unless you enjoy climbing most of your trip will be spent on that.
Nice place with a nice view. There's not much to see, I would recommend the place only if you want to relax, perhaps a little picnic, 2-4 people and that's it.

Absolutely fantastic! Interactive, exciting, extremely well restored and the guided tour was simply phenomenal. I never expected to stumble upon such a gem of a museum/historic-site here, thank you very much for today's early afternoon of knowledge and fun facts and for all the answers to our questions. Time well spent! Highly recommended.
The Strangest Things event at Historic Speedwell was a nice evening filled with fun activities. I particularly enjoyed participating in the escape room and being present for the séance, which added a thrilling touch to the night. It was great to see that they also offered activities like pumpkin painting, and the apple cider was delicious! However, there are a few areas where the experience could be enhanced. When we first arrived, there wasn’t much lighting, which could have added to the spooky atmosphere. It would be great if guests were encouraged to bring flashlights or battery-powered lanterns to create a more immersive experience. Additionally, for visitors unfamiliar with Historic Speedwell, especially during the fall and Halloween season, it would have been helpful to have someone share a bit of history about the site. Having staff or volunteers at each station telling historical stories would provide an educational element alongside the entertainment. I applaud the actors and volunteers for their hard work, and we enjoyed the bits of history that were shared. This event is for anyone looking to enjoy a night of fall-themed activities while learning about the rich history of Morris County.
Touch of actual history to appreciate a technical progress achieved within last 2 centuries in communications area. Ample parking lot. Retro-Future fest at the time of my weekend visit. 19th century Sci-Fi genre appreciation led me to look up the authors’ names after the visit (leaflets with with short plot descriptions were the ones to trigger curiosity).
First time visit to Speedwell and it was worth the trip. Many old buildings to explore and a fantastic docent to show us around and give us the history. I definitely recommend if you are in the area, all the buildings have exhibits and our guide was extremely knowledgeable and personable.
I love the history in this place. A photographer’s playground or a good place for a photowalk. I walked around snapping shots with my daughter and she enjoyed the walk. Whether taking pictures or just taking a walk, this is a neat place. It’s one of the more interesting places in NJ. Also, notable that it seems to be apart of a National Historic Park. I love National Historic Parks.
I had a wonderful experience visiting Historic Speedwell. The staff was very accommodating when I asked if I could take a tour even though no 'official' tour guides were available. I told them I didn't mind being a 'guinea pig' if one of the 2 newer workers wanted to give a tour. One of them jumped at the chance and she did a wonderful job! The house/property has a fascinating history and the other buildings with exhibits/history text were set up very well. I wish I had had more time to look in the 'birthplace of the telegraph' building since there were 3 floors of information/exhibits. I would allot at least 2 hrs if you plan to take the tour and watch the short video.
The telegraph is without a doubt an important invention and this place being its birthplace makes it worth a visit. The museum was very informative and showed the evolution of communication technology since the invention of the telegraph. While the telegraph is mostly associated with Morse, the museum also highlights the lesser known Alfred Vail, whose contributions are as significant. The entire historic complex is made up of picture worthy buildings, one of which is the home of the industrialist Stephen Vail, Alfred's father. There are docent-led tours of the house but the museum is mostly self-guided. You can book the tour at the Visitor Center. Make this your first stop if you're visiting. We were here for two hours.
Great place to visit on the weekends when you want a little history and a walk.

The curator and guide Cynthia, gave us an excellent tour of the mansion. She was knowledgeable, thorough and very kind to us and our 3 year old. The basement kitchen is a must see. If you enjoy a tour of old mansion from 1800s this is a must see museum. And the garden was beautiful.
This is a unique museum in the heart of the old part of Morristown. You feel as though you are stepping back in time. The staff are knowledgeable and patient and they gave us a careful tour even though my wife and I were the only two people there on a chilly day. The back garden is beautiful in the late winter and free of charge to walk through.
Amazing historical house museum with many interesting artifacts showing the stories of the generations of people who lived there. The curator was very knowledgeable and friendly throughout the tour; no matter what questions we asked he always had an answer. The Thomas Nast collection on display was wonderful. Do be aware that they rotate the smaller drawings on display, since they do not have room to display all of the collection all the time, but it is still very interesting. There are other art pieces and artifacts in the Macculloch part of the museum that are connected to the Maccullochs themselves, including historical furniture and various decorative objects and utensils. The museum gives guided tours and has touchable artifacts and textured art for the visually impaired or for anyone who wants to touch a piece of history. The gardens are absolutely gorgeous and a very restful place to explore.
Excellent way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Rich history with changing exhibits and a knowledgeable staff. Accessibility seems to be an important goal of thiers with several options for people with different needs. Grateful to have gems like this to preserve history in Morristown.
The garden is quite small but nice and peaceful. You let yourself in through the gate, nobody is there to monitor anything and there is no admission fee. I wanted to visit the museum as well but nobody got back to me to schedule an appointment.
Local and national history mixed in one beautiful 17th century home, a must for any local or visitor to the area. Their large exhibit changes every 4 months, and they always have some of their extensive collection of Thomas Nast on display. Staff is knowledgeable and kind, and their director very approachable. The 3 acre garden is beautiful all year round, and free every day of the week. Truly an underappreciated local slice of history.
Very nice historical house from 1800s. They said they have gardens in the summer. Portraits, original furniture from the era, and books from the family. They have an exhibit of Thomas nash's work, he lived across the street. Nice place to visit if you enjoy history and old houses!
The gardens are free and are accessible every day. Just go through the side gate. It’s a lovely peaceful place to read a book or bring your lunch. There are benches and a couple tables under the trees on the lawn, but I wish they had more, especially by the fountain. No restrooms outside. Street parking only. Usually easy to find a spot.

A great historic house, full furnished, a very informative tour. Unfortunately, was showed only half of the house, I would like to see more. Tickets: $8 adults, $7 seniors, $5 students.
3/19/25 - I just went to the historical society and I wanted to say I loved it. Erin, Katie, and Sandy all were wonderful, knowledgeable, and very educational. The location does have a guided tour. We did not need to make a reservation for one and they took us right away. It appears that they do not have a lot of foot traffic but they certainly deserve it with their passion for and, knowledge of the site. Thank you for our wonderful trip. I would recommend.
Well-preserved historic house with original furniture of the family or donated one from the same time period. House tour with the guide provided wealth of information about each nook and cranny of each room. Ample parking on the side of the house. Acorn Hall is one of the few mansions still standing from Gilded Age times.
I got a personal tour of Acorn Hall. It was full of personal tidbits and offered a glimpse into a different era and lifestyle. I also bought notecards. I took a little time to explore the garden also. Delightful place to visit and explore some local history :)
Excellent, enjoyable 1 hour tour. Extremely interesting and informative. Beautiful house and furnishings. Nancy, my docent, has a wealth of knowledge about the house and the families who lived there.
I spoke with Erin at Acorn Hall and sent a detailed list of ancestors who lived in Morristown and Morris County. She did an amazing job researching these individuals in their extensive archives and found quite a bit of information that I hadn't found elsewhere online. She also gave me further resources to look into that would possibly relate to my ancestors. Great job! I am so impressed and thankful!
My interaction with the Morris County Historical Society was via email so I did not have the opportunity to partake in all of the information there. However, I recieved a timely response from Research Assistant Erin, who provided an answer to my main question and an offer to provide more assistance if I could supply a little more information. I would rate the service provided as excellent!! and would recommend the Historical Society for anyone seeking information about Morris County.
The staff at the Morris County Historical Society was most helpful. I contacted the Society through its website and asked about material they might have regarding two of my ancestors who lived in Morris County in the 1700's. They responded the next day with some information and guidance on where I might look further. They were very responsive and thorough. I very much appreciate their help. Don Truslow Charlotte, NC

This review is for the thrift store, the 80’s St Peter’s Encore Thrift Store. The store is exciting and very affordable. The clothes are in good condition and well maintained. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful! There are some vintage items which are understandable worth more than other items and are well secured.
Place looks amazing. They offer a local craft market monthly with all kind of talented vendors.
Visited during the Oktoberfest Festival fundraiser. Beautifully tended and serene grounds. Such wonderful people and fun celebration!
One of the few truly authentically preserved Skinner organs in the US is located in this beautiful, English-style, neo-gothic church, right on the popular Maple ave in Morristown. The tower hosts a large carillon that is played by visiting artist during the summer. The church is open for visits and prayers for anyone, surrounded by a beautiful garden and cemetery.
Absolutely beautiful, I spent an hour and a half just looking at everything and sitting in the peace and quite. Would definitely be worth anyone time
Listened to an organ concert by a musical director who was at Notre Dame in France. This church is beautiful inside.
One of the main doors is open Monday through Friday most days. Once in a while it's closed. Your invited to come inside to meditate and pray. There are cameras so please don't do anything foolish. Right next door is the Morristown library. You can chill there and take advantage of the bathrooms.
I know that Morristown, with all its early American history ,it can be daunting to an outsider. This thrift is no exception to the rule. Upon walking in , I inquired about any sales. The volunteer rudely said, " At these prices, no." Normally, I would walk out, but I stayed to write this review. The prices are slightly higher than the average church thrift, but the clothes are in pristine condition. I thought the goal of the thrift store was to sell for the benefit of the church not to make the customer, who is assisting your cause, feel embarrassed by asking a question. I may go back... Maybe

It's a nice hike in Morris County. It's lined up with the "Patriot Path" so you can continue your hike without disruption. The couple times I have been there, I didn't venture too far. I was also hiking with little ones... We parked in the main lot and walked to the trail. We walked some of the trail, took pictures of the cascading water and did a partial hike. Nice, quiet area, depending on numerous factors (time of day, day of the week, holiday, weather). During the warm months this place gets busy, but my most recent visit, as of this review, was 3/1/25 and we only passed 3 other groups. Worth checking out for a nice hike along a stream with some 'waterfall' features.
This park is one of my favorites. It beautiful! Wonderful waterfalls, a lake, and overlook. One if my favorite spots is the outdoor chapel which not many know about. Trails are clearly labeled, but be warned some trails are rocky and for people who want more of a hiking experience (waterfall trail is the one we took which is rocky and has some climbing). But there are flatter trails to enjoy as well.
Great hiking trails, well maintained, and marked well. There are different trials with varying difficulty. Lots of rocks and was hard for my little doggo in some places. Beautiful place to swim, see some waterfalls, and enjoy a peaceful hike.
Great trail. It is very rocky and not an easy hike at all. It took me 2.5 hours to cover 5.3 miles. I did get lost a few times.
Schooleys Mountain Park is a great place for hiking, biking, fishing, and having fun with the family. The paths, while a little rocky, are pretty fun otherwise, and lots of revisions have been done lately, especially on the waterfall path, to make it more excesable.
I shared a great adventure with my son. I can't wait to share with the rest of my family.
We accidentally found this park and we're so glad we did! When we have time to explore more, we will definitely be back. Lots of dogs (well behaved!) and families with kids.
I’ve been with this park since the mere age of six, and it has only gotten better. So quaint, yet so memorable. I don’t have a better recommendation for a park around here.

This photo is from the postcard I purchased here. It depicts the parlor. This off the beaten path house is a must see for any Revolutionary War or Alexander Hamilton history fan. It's run by the Daughters of the American Revolution I was impressed by how much they are truly committed and passionate to keeping and preserving our national heritage. We were fortunate enough to gave two very knowledgeable women explain the history of the house and how it fit to the Revolutionary War. Mrs. Eliza Hamilton 's bonnet, collar and a lock of her hair were on display. Go to Fort Nonsense afterwards...its a short drive from there with views to NYC. Really makes one appreciate our freedom!
My friend and I visited the Schuyler-Hamilton House on 29 September 2019 shortly before closing. Despite the late hour, Pat was nice enough to not only show us the house, but tell us about its owners, Dr. Jabez Campfield and Dr. John Cocrane, as well as its place in the history of Revolutionary America. She discussed Washington's battles and strategy, explaining how Morristown played a strategic role both in its location and natural resources. In addition to the wealth of information she offered, Pat was also funny and enlivened her discussion through her humor. My friend and I stopped by because we saw this listed on a map at the Morristown National Historical Park, and it made for a fun detour. A great place to visit on an afternoon!
Wonderful place for people who are interested in Hamilton, Revolutionary War history, or local history. It is a small house, but the tour guides make it a big experience, making you really feel the connection of this place to the important events unfolding in Morristown and New Jersey. Only $5 for the tour, and the ladies who work here are among the most knowledgable and dedicated I've encountered. Well worth the visit. Suitable for older children or those who are interested in history.
Pat gave an amazing tour, with lots of fascinating facts. I really enjoyed my visit. She took her time explaining different historic events in Morristown. Highly recommended...takes about an hour for the whole tour.
It's a cool place to visit while Alexander Hamilton is hot. Not sure if that moment has passed yet, feels like it's getting close. The ladies who work there are great local history ladies.
Don't think of this as a museum, it's more a two room old house where a woman like your Grandma tells you her personal thoughts on the revolutionary war and Alexander Hamilton's love life
Love learning about our local history and the men and women who shaped our countries beginning.
Interesting place. Very nice and knowledgeable guides. Very worth a visit if in the area.
