If you're considering taking up paragliding and reading through reviews to help make your decision—look no further. After extensive research on the best place in Canada to complete my P1 and P2 courses, all signs kept pointing back to Freedom Flight School. One phone call with Dave (the owner) sealed the deal for me, and I’ve had zero regrets since. I flew from Ontario to Lumby, BC in mid-June 2025, ready to dive into two full weeks of training. From the moment I landed in Kelowna and met Terry (one of the instructors), I felt completely welcomed and confident I’d made the right choice. Freedom Flight School offers an experience that’s truly immersive and authentic. The school’s property includes a large camping area, and I pitched a tent right on-site. There’s something incredibly special about sleeping under the stars while pursuing your passion—but fair warning: bring a warm sleeping bag, as nighttime temps in June can drop to around 10°C. The Pilots’ Lounge is a well-equipped communal space with couches, a fridge and freezer, BBQ, hotplate, microwave, coffee maker, and full kitchenware—everything you need to keep yourself fueled and comfortable. It overlooks the landing zone, where you can watch paragliders, hang gliders, and even small planes come in. The site also includes running water, clean washrooms, and a hot shower, making it a perfect setup for students and visiting pilots alike. The instructors? Incredible. Terry, Susan, Lorne, and Jerry—each brought their own style, expertise, and passion for the sport. A special thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge with such patience and enthusiasm. And Dave—thank you for creating such a vibrant and supportive learning environment. The course progression felt natural and well thought out, each skill building on the last until the moment came for our first tows and eventual flights from Coopers. Your charisma and daily dedication don’t go unnoticed. During my stay, I was lucky enough to be there for the Lumby Air Races, a week-long event that brings together pilots from all over Canada. The camaraderie was amazing—we’d spend the evenings playing cards and board games, swapping stories about flying sites across BC. In the end, your choice is yours. But if you’re looking for a school that offers expert instruction, a welcoming community, and a chance to truly immerse yourself in the world of paragliding—choose Freedom Flight School.
I would definitely recommend Freedom Flight School for anyone looking to do training, tandems or just a place to hang out and fly! I spent 2 weeks there and did my P1 & P2 training, plus some extra flights as a new P2. Dave is great and has built something beautiful here - a community that I feel privileged to be part of. It's clearly more than just a business for him - good advice, good training and good vibes seem to take priority over money or maximizing profit. All the instructors were amazing, and I appreciated that they have a variety of experience and teaching styles. They do a good job of tailoring the experience to each person, I felt very safe and in control the whole time. I also thought towing was a valuable in-between step to get used to flying before having to run off the mountain. I'm already thinking about when I'll be able to go back! Thanks Dave and team!
Last year I started my journey to get my P1 then P2 for paragliding. I just graduated! This has been an unforgettable experience. Dave, Terry, and Andrew have been great instructors and take safety seriously. Freedom flight park has a community vibe with locals and travellers mixing over a common goal of flying. Looking forward to future visits and honing in on my skills.
What an incredible experience! My mom and I each did a tandem flight with Dave and Chloe and it was incredible! They are so skilled and knowledgeable and provided an experience that we will talk about forever. We highly recommend Freedom flight and hope to come back again soon!
Got my P1 and P2 here and it was all a great experience. Dave and Terry were patient and great coaches. I camped there for a week while getting my flights. There were lots of great people to meet and the facilities were comfortable. Would recommend to anyone!
As my first time paragliding, but still with a real interest in the sport, I couldn’t have been more welcomed here. Dave and everyone else explained passionately to me how they fly and manoeuvre. I felt like a real person and not only a client, which made my experience personalized and really enjoyable. I also felt confident in their ability to fly and o never once felt any fear for my safety. Without any doubt, I will recommend Freedom Paragliding School to anyone interested in that kind of sport, it is really worth it!
There is a reason why this school only has 5 stars reviews... The whole experience and learning process is nothing short of exceptional. I went there for my P1 & P2 training and I was able to complete both in less than 2 weeks. After the graduation Dave let me stay a couple more days to do some extra solo flights with the new students. During the training, all the instructors were amazing and very helpful. They all have a different style and way to teach so it's very valuable as you can spend some time with all of them to help you find your own style. What I really liked about this school is their flexibility and the way they can adapt to each student to help you focus on what you need. Also, the atmosphere is great at the pilot's lounge. They will definitely make you feel part of the family. Dave and the others also helped me choose the right gear (wing, harness, etc etc) with no pressure to buy from them. One week after I left Lumby (with my own gear) I was able to fly confidently on a new site (Mount Seven, Golden, BC) and it went so smoothly... (largely due to the instructors). I'll probably go back there every spring to fly with them. Big thanks to the whole team.
After lots of research I decided to go with freedom flight school for a few reasons. For one, I wasn’t sure if I would even like paragliding, but Dave’s school offered tandems, and if I decided to continue with the P1, the cost of the tandem would be subtracted from the cost of the P1. This made it much easier to commit to my paragliding adventure (although I tried out the training hill first and I was immediately hooked). Another reason was that unlike other schools, Dave’s school does not require you to bring your own gear or buy gear from his school if you decide to take a course. I wanted to have options for buying and I wanted have more knowledge about the gear before I had to buy it, so this was a great point for me. The third reason was that Dave’s school offers towing endorsements as well. Being able to get towed up to a low height in the air seemed like the perfect baby steps to learning to fly; opposed to going from the training hill to running off the mountain. The last reason was that it was the best priced school. Even though I’m based in Victoria it was definitely worth the drive. I started my Paragliding Journey in September 2024, and completed my P1. During the towing for my P1, Dave’s team did a great job of walking me through all of the steps to launch and safely land my first flights. I felt like there was someone with me in the air guiding me through all of the steps. That trend continued when I took my first steps off the mountain and into the air. I came back in early May 2025 to finish off my P2, and had a great experience again. I only had a week to get my P2 done, but Dave and his team did everything they could to make sure I got my 25 flights done in order to graduate before I had to leave. They taught me all the necessary skills and knowledge that I needed in order to be a confident and competent solo pilot. There is a great sense of community at Freedom Flight School and it’s nice to have the option to camp on site and sit around the fire. I loved that when I graduated I got a mini wind sock to take home and that another one was put up in the pilots lounge with my name on it! I know that when I return to Lumby I’ll be returning to an awesome flying site and good friends.

My kids knew I always wanted to try kayaking, so for my birthday they got me Gift Certificate with Big Bear Tours! I contacted Ron and arranged a Kayaking tour down the Enderby river! It was amazing! Ron and his wife know their stuff! They even fed me! It was about a 3.5 hr paddle that was a great way to unwind! Can't recommend this company enough! Next I'm trying their Quad tour!

A wonderful spot, very clean and friendly staff. Lake is one of the better lakes we have stayed at and would come back every year if it was closer than 16 hrs drive away. If you have a trailer over 32 feet, some of the round abouts are very tight, and use caution. I madenit around without hitting a tree but watching many people not cut the corner properly. It would be nice to have a couple of trees removed. We were in site 67. Super Dog friendly place also, huge area on the beach for dogs, leashed in the park of course but no issues. Great spot to shut off, no cell service. You can get service closer to Lumby. No shower and great flushing toilets. Cascade Falls hike up the road about 5 km ish, shirt but beautiful. Caution if your not an outdoors person, there is a small section that is on a side hill.
had the most amazing camping trip here. it’s beautiful, quiet and sooo peaceful. there are lots of little ground squirrels! be their friend but don’t feed them cause they stop attacking you!
What an amazing place to stay. Gorgeous campsite, awesome lake, cute little convenience, store, wonderful staff. No cell phone service but that can be seen as a good thing. Would recommend for anybody
Beautiful park, family oriented, miles from the action. Good fishing and a small well equipped marina store for essentials, snacks and ice cream. Such a chill vibe here, the park is quiet by 930-10 everybody tired from a beach day kayaking and paddleboarding. DON'T FORGET! NO CELL SERVICE! NO INTERNET! CASH ONLY! Grab everything you need in Lumby.
We had an AMAZING experience tenting here with our two children (ages 9 months and 2 years old). Beautiful beach in the day use area that drops quickly, so you are going to want life jackets for non-swimmers! A bit chilly, as it is a glacier-fed lake, but great on a hot day. We were here the first week of September and it was lovely. Large camp sites - big enough for 2 tents or an RV. Picnic table at each site. There is a boat launch and a large stretch of beach that you can also launch from if you don't have a boat trailer. No cell service, internet, power etc. which is great if you are trying to get away from city life. There is a place to charge medical equipment if necessary - check with the staff. Wonderful experience. My two-year-old has been asking to go back everyday since we have been home. Bugs weren't bad the first week of September either.
Mabel Lake, just 47 km from Vernon, offers a peaceful retreat with amenities like dog-friendly areas, campsites, washrooms, and a playground. Clean and well-maintained, it's perfect for a family outing or a relaxing getaway. No cell services, no internet ☺️
Had a great time camping here at the main campground. The basics - our site was big enough for multiple tents and 2 cars. There are a few pairs of flush toilets in the campground, kept in reasonable condition. The tap water seemed drinkable. There is a marina boat launch near the overflow camping and day use and general store with ice and a few essentials. The lake - there are multiple beaches and grassy areas. The sand is medium fine, with a few rocks. The water is fairly clean and cold. The scenery is beautiful, it's a massive lake surrounded by mountains. There are logging 4x4 trails all over the mountain, a short hike to Cascade waterfalls, and the Mystic Trail to explore.
Beautiful place to camp! Great play ground for kids. Has flush toilets, no shower facilities. No WiFi or cell service, perfect to ‘unplug’ and enjoy the beauty around you

Went there with Family and a few Friends, to celebrate my Birthday!🎁 Ordered the Special of Ribs and Pasta. A burger was also ordered and a Poutine dish. Been there many times for their Awesome Borscht, so thought we'd give it a go. Meal was good but the ribs could have used longer marinating. Our waitress was nice and the atmosphere, is always pleasant, relaxing and a great way to spend an evening or lunch. My Daughter cannot have chocolate so I rang ahead, to make sure they would have other desserts. Well, the Blue Ox did not disappoint. Tried their Fried Bananas with Ice Cream and it was Incredible!!! They also have Cheesecake. Have been coming here for years from Vernon and will definitely be back. Thank you Lumby.🎉🥳🎉
Classic pub and sports bar atmosphere with friendly staff. It does get very noisy in there when it's busy or around dinner so not always the best place to go if you're looking for a place to go for conversation. It can get busy especially during events or Wing Wednesdays but there is a decent amount of seating available. The food is great, a good selection of regular pub foods and some other options.
We stopped in for lunch today and shared a calamari appetizer as well as each had a meal. I think the calamari may have been the best I’ve ever had! It was crispy coated and like butter.. perfectly done ( not over cooked and rubbery). Each of our meals were fabulous , my fish was crispy and delicious. Everything was piping hot, the portions were huge and the server was efficient and friendly. Probably the best meal out we’ve had in years. Well done Blue Ox staff! Worth driving to Lumby for a meal here 😊
Great food - wish there were a few more gluten free options, but best food in Lumby for sure ✔️
From knowing many lovely girls that have worked here and being told horror stories of the work environment I would not recommend giving this place and the disgusting owner your money and time of day. Food may be good sometimes but even then it is too expensive for what it is and how the poor girls are being treated behind closed doors. Sometimes even out front for everyone to see.
Best pub food really must try, especially wing wed and and Friday Saturday lobster and steak or prawns staff is amazing the whole atmosphere of this place is the best
Very great place for food. Fantastic service and waitress.
When we were building the bridge on Creighton Valley Road we were introduced to this pub!! We love ❤️ the food & the owners & their staff. We come as often as we can!! Every single thing that we have eaten here was spectacular!!

Beautiful Christmas tree farm, well organized with many tree options, hot chocolate, music and friendly people. Highly recommend visiting to put you in the Christmas spirit.
Really nice people that own this farm. If you go a month early, you can pick your tree out and cut it down later in December. They Have a hot chocolate machine and a nice vibe throughout. Trees were 85 I believe. Nice little drive to get there. We always get the picture for our Christmas letter there along the river walk they have
Free hot chocolate, which was delicious. All trees were $80. Miniature horses and goats. Bon fires. Beautiful little nature walk by a creek. Fun experience and friendly owners!
Great experience for the whole family. Thanks for the memories. ☃️🎄
We were a little late to the show for getting a tree this year (at least one we could cut down ourselves) but there were some great precut trees. The staff here are so kind and honestly if my baby was able to stay out in the cold longer I would have spent more time wondering the property and speaking with the wonderful owners. They make it feel like your family, and during this train wreck of a covid year, it’s a really nice feeling
Great people. Showed up on a crappy day and was the only one there. They went out of there way to turn everything on for my kids and I. They were very helpful and did whatever they could to help us out. Great family environment and overall a very positive and fun atmosphere.
It just wouldn't be Christmas if we didn't start off with a visit to this beautiful holiday Homestead! We have been going here for at least 10 years... Even though the kids are older now it's still a very traditional part of our holiday season!
Cute tree farm. You can cut your own tree or buy a precut tree. Its really cool seeing the trees grow year after year!

Such a fun little course! Sure, it’s not perfectly manicured but that’s part of it’s charm! We loved the variety of holes and lots of good opportunities for long drives. It’s a great course to play a fun and affordable round and not take golf too seriously. We lost quite a few balls in the rough but also came home with some extras. Enjoy!
Great spot for an affordable round of golf! It’s quite rustic and laid back which we really liked. Not super manicured but we knew that going in and didn’t mind- in fact, that added to the charm. Would be a good course to play a casual round with friends or with beginners.
Love this place! It's inexpensive, open from 6 am till 9 no reservations needed. Fun holes, great place to take juniors to practice. Greens are not amazing but fun to play. Fridays and Saturdays kids play free. So 11$ for hours of family fun! Is an absolutely bonus. Bring lots of old balls or buy there 25c balls as you will loses alot if you are only an ok player.
Good relaxing course no nonsense images and attitudes, just nice people enjoying the game. No water, but the grass will sucks your ball in. The greens are a challenge. If you want something to do and you enjoy the game it's a good deal for the price. I liked being greeted by a rooster 🐓.
I knew what to expect, and I am a rookie golfer, so it was as advertised. Must have lost 10 strokes due to my ball veering off the chosen path to the green. Combination of the vacuum effect of passing semis on one hole, and the microclimatic gusting winds on all the others. The good news is, you could have 20/200 or worse vision out of both eyes, and you could still find more golf balls than you lose. Just walk the edge of the fairway in soft shoes, and you will see what I mean. Watch for thistles. Entertaining afternoon. I would not recommend for dead serious golfers. Just for fun.
Went golfing here today, they couldn't charge us as the machine didn't work .. even though it was free, I still want my money back, it's absolutely shocking , try to imagine a golf course 10 years after the zombie apocalypse in the Vietnam jungle, and now imagine that Vietnam jungle golf course in Jumanji and that's totally it. The green is as long as the rough on a regular golf course and you loose your ball under the grass clippings . Awful place, don't go there..
Nice little golf course (par 9 x 2). Cheap and simple to play. Tee boxes, fairways and greens not in best condition but they work just fine. Bring extra balls as you will lose a few down the gofer holes.
The only course around here I feel comfortable playing. So what if it's not immaculately manicured? It probably has a way lower environmental impact than any of the 'nicer' courses. And there's no old rich ***s. What golf should be.
