Great place to stop! Coffee shop, visitor centre and lovely gift shop with local items, all in the old train station.
Nice place and friendly staff. The gift shop has very unique things. You have to ask to have a look at the train model, it‘s amazing!
What we thought would be a whistle stop on our VIA Rail journey from Jasper to Prince George turned out to be a much longer halt at the McBride Rail Station. We were probably waiting for a freight train to pass. So we were allowed to get down and stretch our legs at McBride. We found the building to be quite interesting because of the Visitor Centre being located here. We found quite a good collection of free pamphlets and maps of the interesting places of British Columbia and particularly of the Rocky Mountains. There is also a gallery of paintings and art works done by the local artists on display, the 'Whistle Stop Gallery’. There is also a café and coffee shop called ‘The Beanery’.
Denise and Clarissa are wonderful tourism ambassadors. Really go above and beyond to help make your visit memorable! Hubby and I truly appreciated their knowledge of local events, artisans and activity options. We'll be back.
Nice gift shop with locally produced arts and crafts. Located in a lovely, original train station!
Just got off the phone with Molly, what an incredibly helpful lady. She even made a call for me to gather information, then called me back. Would highly recommend her to help you with travel plans in the area. Thanks again Molly!
I look forward to stopping here when I travel these roads. I love the crab apple tree by the side of the old train station. And so do the Italian tourists that I brought there.
Very cozy little place, friendly staff and beautiful artwork within. We found some fun souvenirs.

This is a great craft shop in McBride, BC. It is located in the Old VIA Rail Station. They have craft from over 100 local artists . A must stop if your coming to McBride!
We stopped at the McBride VIA Rail Station in July 2019 during our trip to Prince Rupert from Jasper. There was a nice Art and Crafts Gallery gallery housed within the heritage station building. The gallery has some of the paintings and art works done by the local artists on display.. The name of the gallery is ‘Whistle Stop Gallery’. There is also a café and coffee shop called ‘The Beanery’. We wish we could have browsed a bit more but the locomotive’s engineer sounded the train’s hooter, the conductor blew her whistle, and we had to board our train to head to Prince George.
Great little boutique of handcrafted items. Great selection, something for everyone. Some very creative artisans have their work here It's in the railway station, so lots of history. Don't forget to check out the caboose nearby.
This is located inside the train station along with a little cafe/bistro. It has locally made items and McBride gifts. We purchased a wood train xmas tree ornament and a pair of hand knit baby booties. We were also told of a model train set that was tucked away. An employee walked us over to a door where an older gentleman was working away on his huge model train set! Our 3yr old and my husband absolutely loved it! There is a tip jar there and I do encourage people to leave a tip as he opens his doors to strangers. Overall a great little place for a rest stop! Also there are public washrooms in this building.
Best Chai, outstanding breakfast while soaking up local art work..a Must for visitors..
Usually is closed when we roll through town but today the cafe was open (closes at 4pm) and am glad we stopped. Not an extensive or complicated menu but very well done. He was an army cook. My Rueben was perfect (the right kind of mustard, was pressed, just the right amount of everything) and the (homemade) potatoe salad was brilliant - was even plated. Bring cash or eTransfer. Will be dreaming of that lunch until we come again next summer.
A stunning variety of local styles and mediums, including wood, pottery, paint, paper, even instruments - all created by local artists. I was humbled by the diversity of art and history in this wonderfully run non-profit store.
This is the only place in the region to find truly handcrafted art and goods. Beyond your typical souvenir store. GOOD QUALITY. BEAUTIFUL STUFF. Locally owned, and supports local artists and artisans
