Relatively enjoyable experience, it takes about an hour to complete the guided tour through the cave. The tour I was on spoke the information In Georgian, English and then Russian which I feel was too much. It would be better to split into language groups which would make the groups more manageable…there must have been 60 people on the one I was on. The cave itself is very beautiful though and the pathways are well kept. Well worth visiting, just go in the morning and on a weekday when it’s quieter!

Well-presented cave with good atmosphere Prometheus Cave is worth the visit if you're in Kutaisi. The cave itself is impressive, but what really elevates it is how they've set it up. Each hall has its own music and lighting that changes as you move through. It's not overdone—actually adds to the experience rather than feeling gimmicky. Made viewing each section more engaging. The formations are solid, well-lit so you can actually see the details. Walkways are in good condition, easy to navigate. At the end, there's an optional boat ride out of the cave for an additional 20 Lari. I took it and enjoyed it—nice way to finish the tour rather than just walking back out. Tour moves at a reasonable pace. Not rushed, but doesn't drag either. Good value for what you get. Would recommend.

Prometheus Cave is a stunning natural site. The walk through the cave takes you past incredible rock formations, all beautifully lit and well-maintained. The inside is cool and refreshing, especially in the summer. If you get cold easily, a light jacket is a good idea. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes — the walk is long but enjoyable. At the end of the cave, there’s a short boat ride that adds a fun touch, although it doesn’t last more than a few minutes. After exiting, you’ll find a small supermarket for refreshments, and a shuttle bus takes you back to the main entrance. There, you can enjoy traditional food or shop for small souvenirs. As for the guided tour, it felt a bit rushed. We didn’t get much time to pause for photos unless we were okay falling behind. The guide spoke English, but it was hard to follow due to the fast pace and overlapping noise from other groups. A slower delivery or separate tours by language would improve the experience and help everyone enjoy the cave more fully. We used the Maxim app for transportation — it was cheaper and quicker than Bolt in this area. Overall, it’s a must-visit in the Kutaisi region, but the tour style could be improved.

This place could have been incredible, but we expected a bit more. The cave itself is breathtaking, yet the guide rushed through it, played the same music on repeat while watching videos on her phone (???), and gave minimal commentary that only repeated the information boards. The boat ride lasted maybe two minutes and was so fast you barely had time to take in the cave or the light installations. With some investment in the surrounding facilities and proper training for guides, this site could easily attract large numbers of tourists because it is worth it.

If you're in Kutaisi, this well known secret is worth the visit. The cave itself is well lit, cheap to enter (around 8 euros), you can also add a boat ride in the caves underground river - you buy it as a separate ticket at the counter. Groups can be quite large during the season, so make sure you're standing by the entrance to the left of the ticket office ahead of time. Easy to find, easy to park for a fee with little souvenir shops dotted around the parking area. Not much to do for food, but they have fresh pressed juices & small stores. When the tour ends an old bus will take you back the ticket office without charge.

Large natural cave located in Kumistavi village near Kutaisi. Known for its impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The cave has a 1.6 km walkable guiding path. The cave is damp and slippery and nit claustrophobic. Must see is the Hall of Love and the light show at the end. Boat rides can be optional with additional cost for ticket.

THE BUS TO GET HERE IS BUS 33 AND IT ONLY COSTS 2 LARI ONE WAY. TOURISTS BEWARE!! TWO LARI ONE WAY! They will try to charge tourists 3 lari. Ask locals for the right price when you get on bus. The monastery is closed. Can not get in. Waste of time. Bus only stays there 15mins before they return and then there is a huge wait until the next bus. Go to Bagrati, at least you can enter.

XII century monastery and first academy in georgia which was built by Davit IV the builder. Nowadays it is closed but on holidays it might be open

Even if you go inside, it is NOT worth it. The church should just mark itself closed and block public access completely to avoid confusion

I visited the monastery on Sunday and it was open, so I can go inside.

We visited the place at sunset, it was getting dark and we couldn't stay for long. The place is so sacred with a beautiful view over the town. The big church and the small one are under renovation, there were scaffolding all around the interior walls but the visible murals were breathtaking, so were the icons. The history in the place can be observed through these astonishing art pieces. This place should be on top of the list when you visit Kutaisi.

You can absolutely see why this is a UNESCO world heritage site, one can feel the history emanating from the very stones! Shane it was under renovation when I was there but this must be done to preserve for another 800 years. Do remember this is still a working monastery. I also highly recommend doing the monks paths loop though the beach forest.

Even though under renovation (August 2025), most of the interior is accessible, except for some ceiling and upper wall paintings. The exterior is partially covered, but the garden remains fully open. Personally, one of the most impressive monasteries in Georgia for the conservation of paintings and history.

It's a very calm and serene place, located at the top of a small hill. Hence will offer a great view of the city from top, also a great spots to click some pics. The cathedral with its unique appearance in the green background is awsome. Inside the cathedral is very calm and spiritual. It's a must visit place in kutasi.

A beautiful 11th century cathedral sitting on the hill in Kutaisi city is simply beautiful. We came in the evening and the evening rays of sun gave the church a warm and serene atmosphere. It is full of stories and worth for us to know about. For me, it is a must visit sightseeing if you are in Kutaisi.

Kutaisi's premier cathedral is big and impressive. It is surrounded by the picturesque ruins of a royal castle, which are fun to explore. Stunning views of Kutaisi can also be found on the site. Definitely a must see sight in Kutaisi.

Wonderful cathedral and one of the old churches. The current construction is sort of mixed with the new structure added to support the existing one and stands out .the view front the mount of the town below is awesome

The Bagrati Cathedral in Kutaisi is one of Georgia’s most iconic landmarks. Huge church beautifully restored. Inside the church, you'll find the much debated shroud of Turin. Very interesting visit. We even caught 2 weddings during our short visit.

Climb those steps and definitely go ;-)) It is amazing place from in & out. There’s no entry free, no ticket required. Outside you can see old ruins and have a beautiful view at any time of the day ;/))

The views from the bridges are spectacular! Definitely worth a visit. The walk is not long — only the first part is a bit scary, as you walk on a perforated walkway. The whole experience takes less than 30 minutes. Advice about the road there: There is NO NEED to hire a driver or to walk the way. After buying tickets at the visitor center, drive your car a little way back along the road you came from. Soon, you will see a sign to the left for "Okatse Canyon", and a paved road will take you all the way to the starting point. Any vehicle can go there. We hired a driver and paid 70 GEL — totally unnecessary. Anyone can drive the road. It's narrow, but not a problem.

The place is closed, no information why and when will be open. Getting here wasn’t simple, fallow the road signs and don’t be scared about route there, it’s heavily damaged at some places… by the time you will be going there maybe will be fixed. Edit at the 30.03.2025 I went there again and this time was open. From the cash desk to the entrance to the canyon you have a walk that will take about an hour. In a canyon is path that will take around 30 minutes. At the end of the trial you can take taxi back to the visitors center or walk back. I’m walking fast so whole path took me 2h. In average people spent there around 3h. If you are in Kutaisi or near by, it’s worth to visit it. Ticket cost 20gel

Beautiful route to the canyon and walking above it revels great view. There are many stairs along the trail. We've done the walking from the visitors center, but it is also possible to reach by car to the begining of the canyon itself. Highly recommended!

Lady at reception barely speaks English and is hard to understand that actually you need to walk 2.5km to the actual canyon where your tickets will be checked. Then the actual canyon walk starts. So it’s a steep 7km hike that can take you 3h. There is an option to stop directly at the canyon by car and skip these 2.5km of nonsense walk in a forest full of pigs and horses. We took a local guy waiting at the end of the actual canyon with a Lada Niva for 60 lari to take us back to the visitor center. This saved us like 1.5-2h going back. Careful with the decisions :) The canyon itself is really nice.

The canyon boasts lovely views of the river below. There are quite a lot of steps involved. At the visitor center they will try to get you to rent a driver to take you to the actual canyon trail start. DO NOT get a driver. Overpriced and totally unnecessary. Even the ticket counter will warn you that the roda is very narrow but as you can see its quite a comfortable (and very short) drive.

Great place. Newly made attraction but very nice view. It's worth to take a taxi back after the hike as it's uphill. We managed to get down the price to 20lari for a car from 40. Also be careful of Google maps. They don't work correctly if you are coming from Prometheus Cave (05.2025) and because of some reason the only proper road is avoided by the algorithms. Follow the road that's available on Street view like on my photos! Other roads are off-road!

An incredible experience! Highly recommended. Lots of stars and about a 45 minute walk from the visitor center to the canyon. We took a car back which was a fun ride that costs us 25 Lari.

A wonderful old monastery full of frescoes and mosaics. We were lucky to visit it on a Sunday that the reconstruction works weren't on. We strolled around and we admired the beautiful buildings and the view. A sight of serenity very close to the city not to be missed

Breathtaking!! Motsameta Monastery in Kutaisi offers a greenish view of the mountain. Beautiful nature!! Well maintained. Fresh air and so relaxing. Indeed, Kutaisi Georgia has lots of amazing nature. The road going to Motsameta Monastery is just perfect. It seems you are entering a Beautiful paradise. Then once you reach the Monastery, it welcomes you with a fresh breeze of wind and very beautiful view.

The greenest of the green!! Sataplia Nature Reserve is one of the most beautiful nature reserves I have seen. From the cave to the beautiful trees!! It is one of the best places to visit if you are in Kutaisi Georgia. Breathtaking view and weather! A lot of things to see. Walking in the middle of the road full of green trees, made my day visit even more beautiful.

Sataplia Nature Reserve is a really fun and unique place, especially for families with children. The combination of dinosaurs and nature is amazing, it feels like a mix of adventure and learning at the same time. The highlight for us was seeing the real dinosaur footprints (or at least they certainly look real!) which made the experience feel very special. The park itself is beautiful, with a clear and easy route to follow. Along the way, there are breathtaking viewpoints where you can stop and enjoy the scenery. Everything is well maintained, and it makes for a relaxed but interesting walk. Unfortunately, the dinosaur museum display inside the building was closed during our visit, which was a bit disappointing. It would have added more depth to the experience. That said, the outdoor dinosaur representations, animated robotic figures, were very well done and really impressed the kids. Overall, Sataplia is a very nice attraction. It’s educational, fun, and set in a gorgeous natural environment. Definitely recommended for families, especially if you’re traveling with children who love dinosaurs.

Great to visit with kids. Not that long to finish the tours and animatronics dinosaurs at tour end. Its a guided tour and you must wait for the group to form so good to book in advance to know the time and not wait for too long. Parking on site cost 3 gel but you can park in the street outside if you want. Great views of the forest and kutaisi below. Tour was in Russian and Georgian only but the lady guide tried her best to explain the importand things in English to us. There are sign in English at sites of importance in the tour. Not sure if they offer in English also.

True nature reserve with history. Be prepared to walk or carry children's. Must visit place for kids and for history and nature lovers.

After reading some of the reviews, this place turned out to be a very pleasant surprise! It’s a great spot to spend 1,5-2 hours walking around and enjoying nature, a cave, dinosaur footprints, and a beautiful panoramic view. Our tour guide, a young woman, was absolutely amazing - very helpful and went out of her way to explain everything in English for the tourists, and she spoke excellent English too. Highly recommended!

The paleopark is so beautiful and close to Kutaisi. The first step is dinosaur footprints that are from Early Cretaceous. I recommend everyone to see the footprints that are thought to belong to Satapliasaurus. Then, the limestone cave is impressive and so cool. Stalactites and stalagmites are a masterpiece. Afterwards you can experience the observation deck to see the Caucasia landscape that is home to immense forests on the foothills.

It is a fountain located at the center of square, the center of Kutaisi. It is free. You can cross the street to enter, but be careful when crossing. It has been made to show the ancient object that have been discovered here. There is a Macdonald near with a view to this square. In addition a large park and many exchanges.

It was my best experience in Georgia! I loved the whole town, the abandoned-looking concrete buildings on the top (people actually live there though... Crazy), the scary blue cable car, the gloomy women working at the station, the poor kids smoking cigarettes and asking for your money... Well they were not so lovely.

Very exciting place to be! The clock stopped there few decades ago. However, the most cable cars lines in Chiatura are already being replaced by a modern one! We found only three out of original seventeen.

This was a beautiful place. Probably my best memory I will have of Georgia. These rides are used by the locals daily and they were very friendly. Take the ride up, and explore the Soviet-era buildings. Only seven people per ride and waiting time for each was 10minutes. There are a few other cable lines around Chiatura, go and spend some time exploring them. Secret tip: rides were free! They did not even take any money when offered.

It's great fun to ride with the old cable cars. Totally worth to stop by. Highly recommended.

This is where the two well known cable cars are. One line has the circular windows, the other is the one with the painting of a man (inside the actual building). Both are free. For the one with circular windows, you can go up and open the doors yourself. For the one inside the building, someone will come with a key and open it. You can get a taxi to bring you here from Zestafoni for 45 lari as of March 2019 with stops at the pillar monastery (~4h). Really cool day trip.

A throwback to Soviet times. The cars themselves appear in poor condition but keep connecting Chiatura. Few tourists venture here but are made to feel welcome. One of the top experiences in Georgia.

A cool relic of Chiatura still in use today. Many of the cable cars lool like original models, a silent nod to those who built it, it's mad that they're still lasting to this day. The service is free to use and a great way to quickly escape to the heights of Chiatura

The museum has some interesting exhibits, but I found it lacking in detailed information. It would have been more enjoyable with more descriptions or explanations about the artifacts. Unfortunately, there was no guide available to provide additional insights, which made it difficult to fully understand the historical significance of the items on display. Overall, it has potential, but I was hoping for a richer experience ( only cash 💸 )

Cool museum with plenty of information in English. The ticket price is 6GEL for foreigners. Some displays also have QR codes that send you to YouTube for some additional info. All in all, it's a really nice place to visit.

Most impressive monastery I’ve seen in Georgia!!

A peaceful cave monastery! The Mgvimevi Convent, carved into a rocky cliff near Chiatura, is a serene and spiritual retreat. The monastery’s unique architecture, blending natural caves with sacred spaces, creates a tranquil atmosphere. Surrounded by lush greenery, it’s a perfect spot for reflection and quiet exploration. Modest attire is required, and the best time to visit is during daylight hours for the full experience. Requires a steep hike for about 100 meter.

Beautiful monastery etched into the mountainside. A small staircase on a road leads to it. Very easy to miss. The contrast between this lovely little chapel in the industrial sites in front is impressive. If you are in the vicinity, do come and see.

Gelati Monastery. Spectacular frescoes in this church and the other one that are set in grounds near Kutaisi. It's a pleasant walk there from town or you can take a marshrutka, a van. It's a lovely day out and it was very quiet and peaceful when I went in November. Recommended by every person bi talked to in Kutaisi.

Get your legs ready for a bit of an uphill climb but it is made easy by beautiful steps and platforms to rest on your way up. Stunning views over the city below.

Very nice but small museum, definitely worth the visit and it's free for visitors. The exhibition is about the second world war and the South Ossetian war in the 90,s. You can see some documents and photos on display and the memory wall dedicated to the fallen from the Kutaisi region in the conflict during the second ward war. There is also an exhibition dedicated to the Afghanistan mission.

The museum appears to be a private one, and the opening times may not be accurately reflected. We went on a Tues morning at 10:15am and it was apparently closed. But the guide, Timur, heard that it was our last day in Kutaisi, and decided to give us a personal tour instead. The museum covers Georgia during WW2, moving on to Abkhazia in 1992, Afghanistan and Georgia's joint efforts (relating to its bid to join NATO), and finally South Ossetia in 2008. All description panels are in Georgian and Russian, so we used Google Translate. Timur took us through each time period, pausing to tell us key points of each involvement. He had a very jovial, helpful demeanor and even said we should take a selfie. We were asked to jot down our thoughts in the guest book at the end, and the fee of 5 GEL was paid per person. Overall I'd say it's a good stop while you're in Kutaisi and would recommend 30-45mins for it - longer, if you either read Georgian or Russian, or if you are a big war history nerd.

Free but Small and dark(lighting) museum This museum is relatively easy to access and go to, it's only a 3 minute walk from the Colchis Fountain. The overall museum is very dark(in terms of lighting) as I had to use my phone torch to see and read. A lot of the signs are on Georgian but some signs are translated to English. The entry is also free. The museum is also very small compared to most other museums that I've been to. There's also a lack of historical equipment with most of the content just being images. The content in the museum was about the 2008 Georgian Russian War, the Georgian Legion in Iraq and Afghanistan, The conflict in Abkhazia and Chezia as well as WW2. The staff were alright but they barely gave me any information. Overall the museum is alright. I was a little disappointed by how dark(lighting )it was and how small it was but at least it is free. It's not a must go but if you're a history nerd like me and you have time I would recommend you going there.

The entry is free. One room was open but I think there are several rooms usually. It displays pictures and documents from various wars Georgian soldiers participated in : WW2, Abkhazia, Afghanistan, Irak, 2008... Some signs are translated in English. Such an overrated venue. Only went bc the Bradt guide recommended but none of the exhibits described in the book were there. Rather there was some minor art and printed out sheets of paper of photographs- at least some of those were interesting. Also some sculpture in the courtyard. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Thankfully only 2 lari for entrance.

Kutaisi Art gallery is great stop while walking around Kutaisi old town. Exposition is not so big, but it is worth seeing for anyone who appreciates art and wants to see some creations by Georgian artists. Exposition includes few original works by Pirosmani. Entrance is 2 lari (0,70€ approx.)
