Curonian Spit

Peninsula
Sights & Landmarks
This 98-km. sandspit along the Baltic Sea is a popular holiday option, with beaches & resort towns.
Slide 1 of 8
Between Cranz (Russia) and Smiltynė (Lithuania) stretches over 98 km one of the most special nature reserves in Europe: the Curonian Spit. A spit is a long sand spit that (partially) blocks off a part of the sea, in this case the Curonian Lagoon is blocked off from the Baltic Sea. The Curonian Spit was formed in the 5th millennium BC, the narrow sand spit, the width varies from 380m to 3800 m, is mainly covered with pine trees. The area is a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer months, attractions include the artists' village of Nida, the Witches' Hill in Juodkrantė and the two dune areas. In order to protect nature, the Curonian Spit National Park was established in 1991. In 2000, the entire spit became a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and rightly so, because the Curonian Spit is definitely worth a trip!
Might be unique wonder of nature, but human touch (ferry service capacity from and to mainlaind) makes the experience of getting there uniquely painful and nightmarish. 5 hours(!!) waiting in car at the ferry terminal (back and forth) to have 2 hours in the Sea museum (as there was no time left for anything else). All thumbs down for (de)organized logistics here.
This is how I imagine heaven! Ideal place for a biking trip, as there are high-quality bike roads, plenty of cafes and restaurants, and many nice places to stop all along the peninsula. We took a ferry, then a trip by bus from Smiltyne to Nida, where we rented a bike and rode to Juodkrante (approx. 30 km). Visited Vecerkrugas dune, Preila, did some bird watching near Karvaiciai, then a short walk in Pervalka, a hike to Dead Dunes, spent some time at a beach near Juodkrante, and had a great dinner and a walk around Juodkrante, back to Smiltyne by bus, then ferry back to Klaipeda. Wonderful, relaxing experience!
it looks like heaven
This 40-foot sundial stands atop the Parnidis Dune, one of the scenic highlights of Curonian Spit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared by Lithuania and Russia. Built in 1995, the sundial was damaged by a hurricane a few years later and rebuilt in 2011. It accurately tells time by creating shadows on the steps, with notches for hours and half hours, as well as months, equinoxes, and solstices. March 20 marks the spring (or vernal) equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, meaning that for the next six months daylight hours will outlast nighttime darkness. When it's winter in the Northern Hemisphere, those of us above the equator are tilted away from the sun, giving us shorter days and longer nights. In summer, we're tilted toward the sun, but the equinox is right in between. It's the moment during Earth's annual revolution around the sun when its axis is neither tilting away nor tilting toward the sun, giving everyone on the planet an equal split of day and night. This phenomenon happens twice a year—in March and again in September. In the Southern Hemisphere, everything's flipped. There, it's the autumnal equinox today — and, yes, winter is coming.
46€ for the ferry 50€ entrance fee to the national park 5€/person for the dead dunes as the main attraction and only a tiny carpark Pretty bad roads All this makes the experience of this beautiful piece of earth pretty sour and not worth it
I am very pleased to have visited this place. With a visa you can walk from Europe to Russia.
Was very disappointed, there where sign's all over the place saying keep off sand dunes before I got onto the beach then I walked onto the beach and there was no sand and only a puddle of water. I was ready to go the the beach and everything. I brought my beach chair and sunscreen and just wanted a nice peaceful day at the beach but there was no beach for me to be at.
Königsberg Cathedral

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Gothic, brick-built medieval place of worship, rebuilt after WWII damage, with Immanuel Kant's tomb.
Slide 1 of 8
It is a Brick Gothic-style monument in Kaliningrad and is the most significant preserved building of the former city of Königsberg, which was largely destroyed in World War II. The construction was completed in 1380. Although it was heavily damaged in World War II, it has since been restored afterward. It is the largest brick church in the Baltic region and has three towers, and a 700-pipe organ (one of the largest in Russia). The interesting fact about it is that It is the burial place of Immanuel Kant, the famous philosopher and his statue is in the cathedral as well. There are lots of interactive parts inside the exhibition about Kant, for example in one part you can ask any question from him, and he'll answer you! If you are interested in learning more about the history of Königsberg or the philosophy of Immanuel Kant, then a visit to the cathedral is a must.
Dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Adalbert of Prague, it was built as the see of the Prince-Bishops of Samland in the 14th century. Upon the establishment of the secular Duchy of Prussia, it became the Lutheran Albertina University church in 1544. The spire and roof of the cathedral burnt down after two RAF bombing raids in late August 1944. Kaliningrad was to be rebuilt as a model town on the remains of Königsberg, with no reminders of its German past left standing. The ruins of the castle were periodically dynamited over the next several years, with the last remnants destroyed in 1968 on Leonid Brezhnev's personal orders. The ruins of the nearby Königsberg Cathedral, which included the tomb of Immanuel Kant, were left standing, and, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, were rebuilt and restored in the late 1990s and early years of the 21st century.
Amazing place to check out and kaliningrad itself it has a lot of history, and I would definitely recommend going to check it out. Here are a few photo I took
I had the opportunity to see the beautiful cathedral both from the outside and inside. I also attended a concert held inside. The interior is very well maintained and truly impressive. We took a memorable wedding photo in front of the cathedral.
Beautiful cathedral was built in 14th century. Doest function as an regular cathedral nowadays. It's is a museum. To get in you need to buy a ticket. There is also possibility to listen to organ music there.
Another place I did not have the pleasure of experiencing its interior. It is worth the time to walk to it and enjoy the vendors and views of the pond and park.
We enjoyed organ concert. Mozart sounded so wonderful. I am very impressed
The catjedral hosts now the musem of Emmanuel Kant and organ concerts. It si more interesting to watch here outsode than inside. Afterall the cathedral was bombed djrong the ww2 and for a long time it was a ruin. Worth for a visit.

it is a "must" seen place in Kaliningrad. It includes different pieces of arts
Beautiful area and building but the museum itself is average. Some interesting pieces but a lot of similar things and basically nothing in English.. so a wiki page will be more interesting to learn.
Nice place and the museum has many informations to show. There are shops as well to buy amber stones. I enjoyed to read the history behind the making of the stone. Worth to visit.
We did not get a chance to go in due to lack of time, but the surrounding area is great and so are the shops. If the inside is anywhere near its exterior, I'm sure it deserves a five star rating.
Touch mysterious and traditional culture and history of Kaliningrad. If you have heard of the mystery of the amber room that missed during warld war 2, you would definitely be moved, because there is the exhibition of the room that restorated. If course, you can learn the history of amber and how to make amber things in Russia. Additionally, there is the exhibition of amber art such as pictures made with amber. There is a souvenir shop that you can buy amber and with reasonable prices!
Amazing experience. My knowledge of Amber grew by 50000%. Beautiful pieces to look at as well as nice souvenirs to be bought.
Before I came to Kaliningrad I had no idea that such a huge percentage of worlds amber derived from this region. It's crazy to think about 300 million years how a unique set of circumstances led to it. This gives a story of the region and a ton of amber displays as well.
I was very happy to be here. But he needs the vaccine QR code, I have the vaccination certificate, they won't admit it and won't let us in. This vaccine certificate is available in many places, and this is the first time that the validity of the vaccine certificate has been denied. a terrible day.

Big museum & research center focusing on the ocean, with boats, seaplanes & a submarine to explore.

Very interesting museum - numerous ships and other vessels for exploration + main hall with aquariums. And new exhibition hall is coming up soon. Highly recommended to visit! But be aware - it's not "just a museum", the complex can take almost entire day to see everything.
Loved by local people but few exhibitions because of renovation. If you are expected to watch a lot of kinds of fishes, you would definitely feed disappointed, however, the exhibition of the whale is absolutely great!! There are a several tickets depend on what you want to watch, so you might feel confused, but you can ask the staff in the ticket office. I recommend you to check the Instagram account of this museum, because their posts seems very lovely.
Externally it looks spectacular but unfortunately it's incomplete inside. We'll just have to wait in anticipation for the full experience
A big territory with a lot of attraction sites including a submarine, a research vessel, a water plane, coral and fish aquariums, all sorts of marine mines, anchors, compasses etc. To visit every attraction you need to pay separately. Great for kids.
Being in Kaliningrad you have to visit this place. But not all attractions are worth to see for foreign guests. For sure tou have to buy tickets for museum on the ship and submarine. Before you buy the tickets for other attraxtions, check what this is about, because you can be dissapointed and bored. I do not recommend aquariums. They are small and not so attractive. And in my opinion they are to small for all those fishes. But still you should come here and see those great things.
It is very interesting place. As a seafarer (Captain) it is very attractive place for me.Not only to get fun it gives lots of knowledge.Life in the submarine is adventure.I love this place.
Impressive and highly recommended to visit. Very interesting excursions, different places like submarine, few buildings, ship.
Great place with interesting explanationx about hydrosratic preasure, lots of types of ships, submarine, marine weapons...

Amazing zoo. The animals have enough space to move freely. A must see when visiting Kaliningrad.
A very large zoo with excellent organization, amazing views, and an impeccably clean environment. Every animal we visited had detailed information provided about its life, eating habits, and more.
One of the Best zoo ever! A lot of activities, food spots, Children grounds etc. No. 1 place to visit in the city! Try 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. To visit because of animals activity hours.
Very beautiful zoo!!! There's good food, ice cream, clean and neat bathrooms, wonderful trees, fountain, bridge and walkways. There's a lot of animals to see and keep you walking all over. It's a whole day plan or the park you would love to go for a walk. Bus stop is convenient. There's no parking, but there's several busses stopping right in front of the entrance. So any bus can take you to the zoo. That's amazing! The restaurant in front of the park connects to the inside green foliage of the park. At this restaurant, there's this beautiful deck you can seat and enjoy the fresh air. It's a perfect place for everyone! I loved it! My favorite animal, my daughter's love, the giraffe. They are right there in front of you and get very close at you. Just beautiful! Also, at the entrance there's a racoons house(it's paradise). I would be a racoon, that's where I would like to live. This keeps your kids entertained on your way in and out. By the way, there's free wifi.
Very interesting! Giraffe is so friendly, as well as bears and even hippo! Definitely must-see place.
At this place cashier was one of the kindest people who works with people in Kaliningrad. But about the whole zoo, they are trying to do something and building new volleys and its not going so fast as customers would like. Also the price is pretty cheap. Overall, I am satisfied with the tour.
If you want see soviet zoo park it's good place for you. Animals old and place old and dirty.
Oh, I adore this place. A lot of animals, interesting facts about them and always improving equipment and infrastructure. Ticket price isn't high and there are some discounts for children, students, groups etc. And they have a good snacks to eat while walking.)

Seeing this well-kept piece of soviet history was a delight. The closest thing to this I experienced was in Gosport,UK where they have an Amphion class submarine on public display but it's nowhere near as well-kept as the B-413. Such a delight to visit!
You can't even imagine how difficult and unbelievable is to live and work in the submarine. Go and discover world of small spaces under the water. How they work, sleep, fight and go to the restroom. Take a walk from top to end and learn how difficult is to maintain it working. Wonderful experience!
This was a cool place to visit. For decades a submarine used by Soviet Union and Russia. It's part of bigger collections of boat at Museums of Oceans. It is 300 rubles to get into boat. It is really striking just how cramped and claustrophobic it is. The displays are in Russian but still got a good sense of how it felt in the vehicle.
Greatly preserved and renovated Soviet / Russian Federation Navy attack submarine constructed in 1960s and being in service until recent years.
Amazing experience to visit the real boat! An audio guide was helpfull as it was available in a number of languages - English, Russian, Lithuanian, etc.
It's really cool in there and I think it's the best place you can go in that museum
Unique opportunity to visit military submarine. Very interesting especially if you have never seen something like this before.
Brilliant experience into Russian Naval history. Would recommend it to anyone who has the slightest interest in Naval history.

Worth to visit. Enjoy the history of Kant. And you can enjoy as well the mini organ concert for 400 rubles.
Immanuel Kant[a] (born Emanuel Kant; 22 April 1724 – 12 February 1804) was a German philosopher and one of the central Enlightenment thinkers. Born in Königsberg, Kant's comprehensive and systematic works in epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, and aesthetics have made him one of the most influential and highly discussed figures in modern Western philosophy.
Interesting place, tomb of one of the most intelligent person It’s worth to visit
On the one side, this is the only one historical place in this city which you should visit. I was frustrated when I saw a crowd of people walking by this place during this pandemic time, working small tents with food and drinks. Anyway, it's choice of everyone. On the other side, If government reconstructed other historical buildings, this region would look like a center of Europe as Prague, for example.
Very touristic attraction. To the point that there is no Immanuel Kant in this tomb. Go, prove check! Disappointing experience architecture wise. I know, it’s hard to miss such a spot being in Kaliningrad, but if you are shot in time – my recommendation is to invest it in something else. Go check submarine! That’s a real adventure, not an empty tomb.
Place to be if you are in Kaliningrad
Must-visit place. To touch the epoch.
The museum is fine, but very small. Sadly you cannot go directly to the tomb.

Really an amazingly kept historical place, where you can easily spent up to two hours enjoying the exhibition or just wondering around, exploring the site. It’s pretty cold inside even on a hot day, so better be prepared for this. The entry fee is 150₽, totally worth it.
Unlike the 11th, this fort took a heavy beating so a large chunk of it is still closed to the public. There are however several rooms depicting different eras in the history of this complex: German history and the story of how it was taken by Soviet army. You can take an audio guide with you if you wish to. Also, sometimes administration organizes historical reconstruction events. I'd like to see more areas opened in the future.
This fortress is part of a ring of fortressess arou d the city of Kaliningrad. You can take an audioguide, but when we come they just put the audioguides on charge. So we entered and walked alone through the fortress. There were sone panel informations about the Sovoet war agaonst germans and the take of Koeningsberg. Ubfortunately it was only in Russian. So the whole visit can take less than 30 minutes.
Place that connects history of Prussian Empire and WWII you are able to visit every corner of the fortress to read about history during the Nazi occupation or to enjoy in the magnificent view of inside maze or outside nature, trees and ponds, definitely worth visiting it while you are in Kaliningrad!!!
One of the most complete such structures in baltics... Lots of potential as future main destination object. Good access. Not so many parking spaces.
A very historic place. If you're in Kaliningrad you must visit this place.

Relatively small museum. It's basically a corridor with a bunch of small rooms on each side, but every room has a lot of content in every room. Even if you don't get a guide, you can learn a lot just by reading the signs on the walls or using the AR app. Most of the exposition is dedicated to World War II and the Red Army's offensive against the German forces in Konigsberg. The catch is that you need to know Russian to read the signs. Not sure if the guides speak English either, so enter at your own risk.
I've never been in a bunker. This was the first time and it was pretty cool to stand where so many otherd had stood before me. Definitely a must see in Kaliningrad.
Fascinating place. Dioramas showing what Koenigsberg was like at the amend of the war.
Very good place to visit. One of the most important places in the history of ww2.
Small signboard but word-it. Just like office command from underground world.
Incredibly informative and a good attempt to tell the story of the siege and storming of Königsberg. I was here a few years ago as well, and since then it has become much more professional. Audio guides could have been clearer and no signs in English, but I personally wasn't too bothered by that.
An interesting museum about the siege undertook by the city during the war. Everything is mostly in russian with little infirmation translated to english. Pictures, models and artifacts are worth the entrance fee, alrhough it would have been alot better to have the text in english to understand more about the significance of every piece

Nice little piece of Prussian (German) history ... they have a little museum inside I recommend visiting!
The King's Gate was originally the Gumbinnen Gate (German: Gumbinner Tor), built in 1765 at the edge of the district Neue Sorge. In 1811 it was renamed the King's Gate and was the terminus of the Königstraße boulevard. The gate was redesigned by Friedrich August Stüler in 1850. The west facade has three sandstone statues, made by sculptor Wilhelm Stürmer: nine metres above the ground to the left the Bohemian king Ottokar II is depicted, who was Königsberg's namesake. Frederick I of Prussia, Prussia's first king, follows as the middle statue. To the right Albert, Prussia's first duke and founder of the Albertina university, holds an eye over the city. Above the sculptures the coat of arms of Samland and Natangen are shown.
Try to visit and have a walk around the gate. Lovely.
Very interesting piece of history and culture

(Translated by Google) It's good that we came up here. The height may not be that great, but the birds got the sensations. There was a magnificent view of Kant Island. We looked around the surroundings, saw the prospects and, inspired, moved on... We rubbed a seagull egg for HAPPINESS, made memorial signs out of rubles, we could have lunch at a French restaurant... and what Gretchen is waiting at the entrance for her beloved from the sea!

There is a bird of happiness that you can rub and make a wish. There is a machine that, for 50 rubles, will make a memorable double-sided token with views of Königsberg from your ruble. And in the middle of the rise, on the intermediate floor, there is a small glass museum where you can purchase your favorite exhibits. At the bottom of the tower, where the ticket office is, there is a souvenir shop. And the first three floors of the tower are occupied by a restaurant, but we weren’t there and I can’t tell you about it yet, at least.

And so, having gone up, having looked at the museum, you go out to the observation deck... And here I was for about five or twenty minutes. A very beautiful view of the city and even the rain, which accompanied me on this small journey around the circle, could not spoil the impression. I recommend everyone to go up here.

First you will go up to the shop of the bottle master, and then to the observation roof. From here you can see the new fish village. The kovashs around are quite densely covered with seagull droppings, which slightly resemble snow.

Really interesting insight into merchant's home 100 years ago. (Tour is in Russian only but you can grasp essentials even with very limited Russian)
Ticket is 500 rubles and you will get 40 minutes of guided tour only in Russian language. For me it is a bit over priced. The room is only one floor and interesting to know how people lived 100 years ago. But in my personal opinion, nothing is surprising to see the house, but to hear the story is a great experience.
It helped me to imagine the house of my charger (artist and writer)
Definitely worth a visit. Small, but so well done. And if you are lucky, like me, to have an English speaking guide, you will learn so much more.
Nice place, but not many things to see. Museum doesn't work on Sunday
Suggest to visit👍👍👍

Nice park where kids can have some fun with attractions and a funny upside down house for a small fee (250rub, around 2.5 eur) worth a visit!
I really love the upside down house at the park. Its not in best condition but much fun to see and walk through. You may feel a bit dizzy inside. I also saw this Magnolia, which is planted in memory of Chester Bennington. The rest of the park is for smaller kids i suppose. You have to pay for everything. The house will cost 150 Rubel.
A nice place to visit with children, but nothing impressive
Very nice park, with lots of attractions for kids of ages ))) and very beautiful lake on the side..great place to spend some time with family
It's a good place for family with kids, there is many attractions you might like. Also at summer time, you can fish there.
Small, cramped, dirty. Midsummer the park is packed with various 'temporary' rides and whatnot. Can barely squeeze by. Midwinter - pretty spacious and clean.
Beautiful place. Sightseeing views. Peaceful atmosphere.
Nice place to relax and hangout. Beautiful view from the wheel
