Medieval castle with battlements, a tower, drawbridge & ramparts, plus an arms museum in the keep.

Really cool castle experience, recommend the armory museum! I am really sad that I have forgotten the name of the female security guard who answered our questions and explained in detail about the use of different weapons and armor. She made the experience a great one. We bought the 19 Eur ticket to 5 museums on site. Recommend taking like 3-4 hours just to get the full castle experience and really go through the museums if you plan to go and see the winged victory the same day (which you have to book a time slot for but they do it for you when you buy the ticket). But back to the castle, really nice. Loved it. 10/10 would recommend.
Loved this castle. great place to spend a couple of hours wondering around the grounds of this ancient castle. The tower provided an amazing view of the city. I highly recommend stopping here and taking in a coffee in the piazza outside the castle. Parking was easy and the castle is located near many of the other historic sites.
Good for a short stop while travelling between Franciacorta and Lake Garda. The castle is beautifully lighted up in the evening and there is free parking at the base of the castle. Great spot to see the sunset and the castle’s drawbridge is very well preserved too.
Awesome Castle. The walk up is interesting, following the names of terrorism victims and the view from the top is amazing. No entrance fee either. Best thing we did in Brescia.
Interesting castle with fantastic views over the city and surrounding area. Well worth the walk up.
Lovely castle to visit for free with great views round the city. Lots of seating areas for sitting with lunch and free toilets. There are a couple of museums that we didnt have time to visit bur would have liked to. There is a ricket for 19 euris for adults that allows access to many of the main sights. Definitely worth the walk up the steps or the less steep path.
Great visit, and it was free when I visited. Amazing view over the city. It was not crowded, and there was available free parking. I enjoyed it.
Impressive castle with stunning views over Brescia. Walk from the city centre is pleasant (a bit steep in parts but manageable). Entrance to castle grounds is free and it’s very easy to enjoy 2+ hours exploring and appreciate the views!

Museums
City museum in Lombard Benedictine monastery complex, including artefacts from the region's history.
Slide 1 of 8
Lovingly and painstakingly curated museum staffed by helpful, kind and knowledgeable people who are passionate about what they do. A must see in Brescia. So much history, so many stories, so many artifacts … it was a very rich experience that lasted 4 hours and still left me wanting to stay longer. This complex is a must see in Brescia. Both the museum and the Capitolium so poignantly take one back in history. The one improvement I would suggest for serious consideration is better mapping inside the museum and a more intuitive audio guide. Currently it is difficult to follow the path and the audio guide is a total disaster. The museum officials might do well to check out the audio guides provided in museums in Vienna and Salzburg, so that they can see how a good audio is developed.
Incredible museum. Includes remains of Roman villas, bronze statues and a convent with stunning frescoes. Completely worth its UNESCO heritage badge. Bought a €19 ticket which included entrance tickets this and the group of sites.
This museum complex is a gem! 💎 It houses an incredible collection of pre-Roman, Roman, Medieval, and more recent artifacts. The Roman section includes in-situ excavations of Roman houses (domus) with stunning mosaic floors and frescoes. The Cross of Desiderius is also beautiful, as is the magnificent room where it’s displayed. There’s so much more to see, but it would take too long to describe it all. All I can say is that this place is a must-see: absolutely worth the entry ticket. Plan to spend several hours being amazed!
This is a medium sized museum. You can definitely spend a few hours here looking at the frescos. There aren't a lot of individual paintings but the historical Roman foundation of the Domus is on display along with many of the Brescia sculptures. The solario is a beautiful sight to see with vibrant color and the wall and ceiling images are impressive. The San Salvatore and Santa Giulia church have beautiful frescos.
Incredible Joel Meyerowitz show. Thank you. As a side note I loved the audio tour and the use of Spotify is perfect.
We love museums (especially my 9 year old daughter), but this place was a complete maze and somehow felt a bit boring (except the two excavated buildings in the basement). Also weird that in the museum we could only buy the more expensive 'combination tickets' that were for 5 museums in the city (which we end up not using).
A biiig museum, you’ll need at least two hours for the visit. Excellent rapresentation of artefacts and additional videographic explanations. I will come back and stay a whole day there!
It is indeed a great museum, however, the path to fallow all sections is not clear. You may pass an area twice and miss some other areas. You need to dedicate ~3h to be sure that everything is seen.

The old church is definitely sentimental and undoubtedly worth to visit! The walls and rocks are beautifully preserved and restored. So are the lightings…
This church is quite impressive for the amount of light that it has. This is built on a Roman foundation and very large.
Such a lovely old dome... very impressive
This place was a surprise. Most of it is actually underground. Inside, the frescos and the ornaments are just breathtaking. If you are in Brescia, do not miss this place. It is well worth it. Entrance is free but I am sure you will be willing to part with a couple of € to light a candle. 😁 After your visit, go chill at one of the cafes for a and watch the world go by.
Beautiful auncient church in the heart of Brescia. A hidden gem.
It is kind of odd because right in front of the church there is a square where people can eat and drink while some buskers are performing but the atmosphere is really nice and appealing to just sit there and relax while sipping spritz after a long walk. The castello on top of the hill where you can see the whole city, is just 13 minutes away by foot.
Very nice Romanesque cathedral with unique works of art. Beware the opening times as they can be problematic for the average visitor without too much time to spare. The whole church has a permanent exhibition which mostly consists of panels with pictures and explanations on the history of the building. Notable are the crypt and the main chapel behind the high altar: it contains several beautiful pieces of both fresco and painting.
This cathedral is cool (literally) so I popped in to get some respite from the summer heat. As far as Duomos go though, one of the more interesting ones in that it’s not as ostentatious as other, newer ones. It’s quite old and the crypts are cool as well.

nice square. very clean. Built in the 15th century in the midst of the Renaissance, Piazza della Loggia immediately became the beating heart of the city of Brescia.
So nice city with so many squares! Definitely need to stop by for a visit!
Such a wonderful place, so elegant. Great places for an aperitif whilst sitting and people watching.
What a great mix of old and... older. A lovely piazza, and we lucked into ordering lunch at Caffè della Stampa, which was delicious.
Molto bello per visitare 👍 very famous in Brescia,Italy.there are a lot of things to see .there are many different historical places .i love it .
Yeah you know it's probably the nicest piazza in Brescia.. I have been here a few times and feel there's probably more to see than meets the eye.. the market was nice but is only on in certain days
The square is quite nice, with beautiful architecture surrounding it on all sides. The palace in the middle with the iron roof is stunning. Highly recommend visiting.
Always good to walk around the town, this place is one of them, very interesting and beautiful architecture, and ancient buildings.

Remains of a Roman temple dating from 73 AD, with rebuilt chambers & preserved marble floors.

Beautiful site with the hill as a background. Really surprising and great site to view on the way from the castle to the main square.
The Tempio Capitolino in Brescia is a stunning Roman temple built in 73 AD under Emperor Vespasian. Part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it features well-preserved columns, marble floors, and informative exhibits. A must-see for history lovers, it offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient Roman life.
The ruins are really interesting to see and there is an interesting video of their interpretation of what it would have been. However, the way the groups are managed really decreases the experience. Every 20 minutes, a group of 20 goes in and is rushed through everything, because the staff is in a hurry apparently. No time to go through everything slowly and constantly the other 20 people closely around you.
When buying tickets for this museum you get access to others as well so you can easily make a day of exploring ancient Roman sites. If you are a fan of history and ancient Rome this is a must. Short but very impactful. Go early to avoid big crowds.
If you like ancient buildings and sculptures that span the destruction of beautiful buildings and then discovery of things that were in them, this one's for you. It's a beautiful, well-maintained complex.
Although the artifacts are fascinating, a lack of clear signage made for a very confusing and frustrating visit. The lack or inability of the guarding staff to help or understand you caused confusion for native and non-native alike. Still very much worth it due to the sheer beauty of the statue of the winged victory!
Was closed the day we visited on Monday. Big pity. But still in awe of this. An UNESCO world heritage site. This place is named as the Capitolium of Brixia or the Temple of the Capitoline Triad. Would love to go back and visit again. So we visited in the evening when the place is quite dark so imagine our surprise when this nicely illuminated temple appears at a corner.
Timed tickets only. You can see a lot without a ticket. But the roman bronze winged victory is magnificent and rare.

This is one of the coolest experiences you can do not only in Brescia, but in all of Italy. This tour offers you an educational blend of history, culture, architecture, archeology and how cities control the use of earths most precious resource - water. I would recommend this tour to everyone who is physically able to do it, it is truly eye opening.
Top experience. Highly recommended tour in Brescia. Well organized, English speaking version, eager to take pictures :) they take care of each participant of the trip. I did not expect such a cool time! Do not hesitate to go there and explore the hidden part of the city!
Great fun on this tour! The two lads were great and made sure to translate everything from Italian to English for me. Super interesting!

As I'm a car Enthusiast I really enjoyed my visit to Museo Mille Miglea. Highly recommend a great display of car history
Museo Mille Miglia is worth the quick stop in Brescia on the train line from Desenzano (Lake Garda) to Milan. The Mille Miglia is a storied race that, although in a much different format, continues today in this region. The museum is set in an old convent and the building and the grounds are very pretty. The only reason for a slightly lowered rating is due to the museum being rather small-it ends a little abruptly, but it is also very very hot inside. The day I toured the museum it was 88f outside and had to be almost equal to that in certain parts inside the building. Other than those particulars the museum is a must-see if you are nearby.
What an incredible museum set in a beautiful old monastery. It charts the history of this iconic race, 1000 Roman mile round trip from Brescia to Rome and back. A wonderful display of all the cars that raced over the years. We particularly liked the floor tile inlay, which details the driver, car and average speed year after year, and also gave an idea of the state of the roads. Well worth a visit for racing and non-racing enthusiasts.
Lovely place if you are into motor racing, cara and history of motorsports. Nice collectables at store and restaurant available for a pit stop.
Very nice museum about the history of the famous Mille Miglia race. Nice assortment of cars and other historical memorabilia. The recreated parts of how the condition of the original race tracks looked like were very interesting to see.
It’s clear a lot of love has gone into putting this collection together, and the condition of these truly vintage cars is remarkable. I also liked the glass floor examples of the road constructions through the decades.
Great value for just €10 entry, lovely selection of cars. AC Ace and Mercedes 300 SL's were my favourites. Nice restaurant/bar opposite for lunch too.

As I already wrote in another review, I personally am an atheist, but I am very impressed with the exterior and interior. The good thing is that we even got in for free. I liked the details inside more than those in the Milan Cathedral.
All the marbles are incredible, and definitely worth to visit! We have visited there during the weekdays, it wasn’t so crowded, and the entrance was free. Feeling lucky!
Another gorgeous church to visit, really amazing marble work and well worth a visit. Even some slots on the floor where you can throw in change, which is quite fitting since religion was built on money.
Very impressive both on the inside and outside. All the churches in Italy are like museums.
One of the landmarks of Parma. Free entry. Worth visiting and contemplating all pieces of arts inside.
Very beautiful and magnificent. The Duomo Nuovo or New Cathedral is the largest Catholic church in Brescia. Construction was begun in 1604 at the site. Work slowly but sporadically restarted on construction, the final completion came in the nineteenth century. The present dome was rebuilt after destruction during the World War II.
Very nice but beware of the super long lunch break, 12-15 they're closed. It's worth a visit to go see both the new and the old cathedral. It's very interesting to see how the new cathedral the marble is cracked all around due to the several wars witnessed by the city. The old church has some beautiful frescoes behind the altar that are definitely worth checking!
It's a simply beautiful cathedral, it was built next to the very old church, great place to visit in town.

Today, I got the chance to spend an hour in the cafe at Teatro Grande, and boy, was it an experience! The genuinely helpful and kind Cristian at the booking office of Teatro Grande helped me get a seat at a jazz performance at the cafe. Martha, the young lady who served drinks at the cafe was very pleasant and efficient. She took care of my vegetarian preference for snacks without any problems. I learnt from her that she is a full time student and also works part time at the cafe. The trio of jazz artists was good, and I especially liked the performance of the tenor saxophonist. On Saturday, 30th November, I got the opportunity to attend a concert at this most beautiful venue, Teatro Grande. This centuries old historic theater is truly grand, and the concert was, fittingly, impressive. The amazingly good performers were all drawn from Brescia, and the instruments they played were made with wood recovered from boats that refugees from Libya came on to the shores of Italy. To further add to the emotional impact of this concert, these instruments are made by prison inmates in Milan who are on the path to rehabilitation. Indeed a fantastic all-around experience!
I loved the atmosphere and interior! When you have a cup of coffee there- you just don’t want to leave this magic place! Try it!!!
Super cool theater, from what we got to see just in the entry and caffe shop. We weren't there for a performance so the experience was limited, but certainly very grand! Great stop for a coffee in a spectacular environment if you are not going to catch a performance. Only wish is they would let you at least see what's in the "main event" stage area and the layers balcony boxes and seats....
if you’re in Brescia for the weekend pop-in the cafe at Teatro Grande for a morning coffee or afternoon aperitivo. you’ll be astonished by the grand room where the cafe is located, embellished by affrescos and gilded details all around.
Bellissimo teatro! A place that you shouldn’t miss while in Brescia. Take a coffee here or even have an aperitivo 🍻

A breathtaking church. Very ornate and with a lot of history. Just happened to meet one of the volunteers there and he told us all about the history of the church and the quirky things. If you kneel on the first marble circle you will see the Madonna face through the hole of the altar's. I really enjoyed spending time there. It is not as popular as it should be and I urge anyone who goes to Brescia to pay a visit. You will not regret it.
A surprise visit on my way from the Castelo to the old town, I came across this hidden jem. This beautiful church transmits peace and clarity, and I enjoyed contemplating the atmosphere, at awe of the arquitecture and decoration. The volunteers helped with information to understand the history of the church. Its a must visit when in Brescia!

The museum of arms and armor is one of the best I have ever visited, and beyond the excellent selection of exhibits is the design of the museum itself, super elegant and robust, perfectly put together in the stunning Brescia Castle. Well worth a visit—I wish I had more time to spend here!
The museum is inside the Castle…i really enjoyed the place… Brescia is a historical town to be visited …
More than simply weapon exhibitions. It’s also about pieces of art, architecture of the castle itself and most importantly, how intelligent the ancient people were. Nice staff with detailed and passionate explanations.
This was another extensive collection of arms and armor. It is well worth the trip!
Great museum with an amazing collection of historical items. It was also very quiet and had a limited amount of people. Unfortunately there was a very unfriendly Italian male staff who kind of ruined the experience for me. Aside from that rude staff had a great time
Amazing, but the museum, I think it's poor, only they have armor stuffs
Spent about half an hour in here looking at the old swords and arms. We purchased a ticket to see everything and this was the main part. Took a star off as no interactive part to it very much walk around take a look.
Very interesting museum with tantalizing ancient military gears and stuffs. Worth visiting
