To anyone planning a visit, I would strongly advise booking your ticket for the newly refurbished Norwich Castle in advance. This helps you skip the main queue, though you should be prepared for a short wait even with an online ticket. It's well worth it!
The newly refurbished Norwich Castle is an incredible place to visit. I was impressed by the exhibits, especially the art from the Second World War, and the beautiful views from the top of the building was beautiful and blown mind.
My only concern was with the long queue. I have a card that indicates I have a disability and can't stand for long periods. When I explained this, the first person I asked said they couldn't help. Thankfully, a second person saw my distress and was kind enough to provide a seat for me while I waited. This made a huge difference. Thank you to that helpful staff member. I hope the castle considers better ways to assist people with disabilities in the future.

The whole experience is visitor friendly from young to old. Much appreciated the lifts to all floors including the battlements for the amazing views. The museum full of artefacts, clearly labelled again interactive for children to enjoy.

Newly reopened Norwich castle 2025.
Well worth the visit, it's a combination of walking around a historical castle, museum exhibits and artefacts, fine art, natural history and a WW2 exhibit.
There are screenplays/shows in the great hall which briefly go over the history of the castle, and there are good views out the windows and across the battlements.
All items in exhibits are labelled and described, and there are display boards around the actual castle interior explaining parts of daily medieval life or the significance of certain design/areas of the castle. There are historical arms and armour on display if after pieces for artistic reference.
The well is very very deep.

It was great to see the castle after the recent renovations. It's a fine building with some great exhibits and interactive elements for children. The views from the battlements are great, especially on a clear day.
It's a bit pricey and there's no senior citizen discounts, otherwise it would be five stars

What an amazing place right on our doorstep. I've lived in Norwich 10 years and never been to the castle and what a gem of a place this is. I can't say how much it's improved since it's renovation, but wow there's so much to see!
From the basement to the battlement they have honestly outdone themselves. We didn't get a chance to see it all sadly as we had two toddlers, but what we did see was amazing and definitely worth the price of admission.

Norwich Castle, recently referbished is a gorgeous wedding ceremony venue. Slap bang in the centre of the city, it gives stunning views of the city, and the room is beatiful.

I brought my 1 year old daughter here today. We had a lovely couple of hours exploring and taking some lovely photos. My only criticism is that we couldn't get around the whole castle as the lifts were out of order. My daughter was on her trike, and I wasn't prepared to carry her up and down stairs.
We explored the museum and what we could of the castle. Plenty of activities for children. Very friendly and informative staff :)

It's more of a gallery than a castle! Like it looks like a castle, but inside, the ground floor feels like just a gallery bit very related to the castle. And then when you do go up, there isn't that much to see really. Yes, the keep, which is like and and a half room, and the big one is good, fair play, but still. Also the roof view is amazing, nothing to complain about that, actually. Really enjoyed it there.

Had a wonderful experience last night on the Christmas through the ages guided tour. Very informative but relaxed and fantastic to see the house at night too. Beautifully decorated in each room/ period of history. Then mince pie and mulled wine to finish. They even had gluten free ones for me. Thank you to the guide and staff. Really stating to feel like Christmas now. Will definitely look for other activities they do in the future and visit the house .

As a resident of Norfolk I am ashamed of myself for not visiting Strangers Hall sooner! I took part in an art workshop here this month. It is a fantastically interesting and beautiful building, steeped in history. The museum staff are so incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. A wonderful establishment.

This is a fascinating building. We only saw a part of it because we wandered in when we saw it as we were passing by while on a weekend trip to Norwich and it turned out to be a day that it wasn't open to the public.
The staff there were getting their things together to go home, nevertheless we were invited to come in and look around the main hall while they were locking up and had a bit of the history explained to us. We would certainly have come back for the full tour another day, but were going home the next morning.
Based on what we saw I would certainly recommend this place, but suggest checking the opening hours first to make sure it is one of their public days.

Fascinating place- so nice that Mr.
Bolingbroke preserved and then donated it in 1923. It has very limited hours, though, so plan around that.
I didn't purchase the guidebook they sell and found there was plenty of information without it- signage, laminated sheets, notebooks, wooden paddles as well as staff.
The video in one of the rooms is also informative and well worth watching. If the weather is fine, the garden is very nice, too.

Really interesting place.
We arrived an hour before closing and the ticket price was only £2, but it's definitely worth the normal price. The staff were very friendly and clearly keen to help.
I liked that the experience was a mix of reading about the history and just absorbing the feeling of being in the house. The garden is also very nice and affords a lovely view back on the Stranger's Hall.

The is one amazing museum. You can see the different architecture and building styles as you walk through. The furnishings and art work in every room really show you how they lived back then. You can spend hours wandering the hallways and different rooms. Keep in mind there are quite a few stairs and uneven surfaces. So if you have someone with mobility issues they may just have to sit in the peacefulness of the back garden.

The Strangers Hall is fascinating and very well presented. So many rooms decorated in keeping with its age. I spoke to the guides scattered throughout the building and they showed secrets and hidden gems that you wouldn't notice by just walking through. Well worth a visit. Best so far on my UK trip from Australia.

We went as a part of a volunteer group which i am part of , to see the new exhibition they have got on it's called can we survive the sea .
Really good exhibition of the potential sea rises and the impact on local communities that live on island's on this planet and how they cope with tsunami's which are set off by earthquake's.
But also coastal erosion that the Norfolk coastline suffers each year .
All free but Donations are extremely grateful.

Great all-round experience. Wide variety of exhibits. Juxtaposition of pieces was stimulating and an engaging feature was where soundscapes were paired with some of the items. This led to those sculptures being experienced in a fuller way. Staff were attentive and there was an opportunity to be guided around. Setting of the Centre is picturesque. Well worth a visit.

So much better than I thought it would be. A wonderful wide range of art and artifacts. The interactive displays were a nice touch. The current temporary exhibition was brilliant. Tickets by donation and we had a lovely coffee and cake in the cafe. It was nice wondering around the outside sculptures. No wait to enter and not too busy for a weekend day. My only trouble was parking. There were no spaces left and we had to park in a different car park at a different building, the ticket machine was also broke. Other than that, great day out.

The Sainsbury Centre has very good temporary exhibitions (including a really good ocean one on at the moment) and the permanent collection contains some fantastic and engaging pieces. We were happy to donate a good amount for the upkeep of an important place.

A very fine cathedral in beautiful and peaceful settings!
During this visit we joined one of the free tours, which provided us with a wealth of fascinating background about its history. It's not often that you get to marvel at such a wonderful cathedral AND get a tour all for free.
We would have liked to attend Evensong as well that day, but unfortunately it was during the summer break, so no choral Evensong. Perhaps next time.

A thoroughly pleasant and enjoyable tour around the Cathedral. I made a detour in my day to just go in but I'm glad I did. Lovely stained glass windows and a wonderful ambience sprinkled with a tonne of history. If I had had the time I would have stayed longer but c'est la vie. The Cathedral has been there for 900 years it's going to be there in another one. I would wholly recommend if you have longer than the half hour I did. Free entry but donations are accepted and there is a gift shop. The lady at the reception was very pleasant and friendly.

We visited late on a Tuesday afternoon and found the cathedral quiet and almost empty. Most visitors had departed, but the clergy and some laypersons were busying themselves to welcome parishioners for the 5:30 p.m. Evensong. By arriving late we missed the Cathedral’s free tours (the website shows the last one begins at 3:00 p.m.), so we picked up a welcome booklet instead and did our best to follow the suggested visit order. The nave is magnificent, and we marvelled at how well its strong Norman design had been integrated into the lovely fan vaulted ceiling. Two massive spiral-ribbed columns stand out. Because of the service preparations we were only able to peer into the lovely wooden choir, but we found our exploration of the impressive Presbytery and its four adjacent chapels to be fascinating. Given the time we could only do a cursory exploration of the ceiling’s treasure trove of carved medieval ceiling bosses, but we certainly plan to return to explore them more fully. Practical info: Norwich Cathedral has no entry fee, but a donation is much appreciated. An excellent list of tours, events, dates, and timings is available on the Cathedral’s website. Should one be visiting by car, note there is no parking in the Cathedral Close, but the website provides a recommendation of nearby pay parking options.

This cathedral deservedly made Norwich a proper Christian city when Normans began construction in 1096. It boasts the 2nd largest extant spire of a British cathedral (this iteration standing since 1485). The cathedral doesn’t have a peal (unlike the storied nearby St Peter of Mancroft) for which only 4 stars are given.
The church has received a modern hostry and refectory in the 2000s, where modern toilets can be found as well as a three-quarters decent contracted vendor for the café, the Bread Source. The wood and glass structure makes for a pleasant space and a good entrance, where entry is subject to a voluntary donation.
The close is also lovely and home to several businesses, a college, and private residences.

Beautiful place and really helpful staff! Staff arent pushy for donations which is great as many places are pushy. Free tours makes visiting very affordable. Would definitely reccommend for half a day/a full day out. We went at 11am on a Wednesday during the October half term and it wasn't busy at all. Unfortunately couldn't spend as long here as would have liked. Understandably but without forethought closed part of this morning for remembrance day.
Managed to wonder round inside afterwards and was guided expertly by 1 of the tour guides to the locations of the 2 people's graves/tombs/plots we we're looking for. Glad we went back after remembrance and most definitely worth the £5 each charity donation. The building itself is in excellent condition considering its 900 years of existence.

Fascinating museum of local history covering a wide range of subjects, from Norwich's status as England's second city, up to more recent industrial history. The building itself is interesting, having been a prison in the past.
Thoughtfully curated displays, immersive recreations of shops and street scenes from the past, and a host of historic artefacts make this a great way to spend a few hours learning about Norwich.
With limited time to spend, we elected to visit this museum instead of the Castle and were not disappointed. Both have plenty to offer, but Bridewell's focus on the history of Norwich as a working city made it particularly interesting. We learned a lot about the confectionery and shoemaking industries that formerly employed many people in the city.
The museum is well provided for, with a small gift shop and toilets onsite. Tickets at the time of our visit were £7.80 for adults, with discounts for concessions; good value considering the quality and range of exhibits. Advance booking is recommended during holidays.

I visited the Museum of Norwich in the last hour before closing and had no wait to get in. Tickets were reduced to just £2.50, which was a great deal!
The museum itself was really interesting, with lots of interactive features that made the history of Norwich engaging and easy to explore. From local industries to everyday life in the past, there was plenty to see and do.
The only downside was the gift shop—while they had Norwich-themed fridge magnets, there wasn’t anything specifically about the museum itself, which was a bit disappointing. Still, for the price and experience, I’d definitely recommend a visit!

An informative and interactive museum offering glimpse into the rich history of Norwich. Two levels of this museum are equipped with rooms that has its own thematic presentation. This was a superb museum to visit, with artefacts looking back on Norwich's history as the second city of the UK in medieval times! Trade of items like coffee and tea is focused on, these old relics are shown as they would have been shipped. Coffee house section even allows to do fancy dress and a metal sheep depiction is taken in from an ancient pub, manufacturing machinery is brought in and a room is used for insight into how this was undertaken! I really enjoyed the market section with the items that would have been sold on the streets years ago and the classic store goods in their old form, carts are a superb addition. An old bar is incorporated and a mini train runs across the top, displays include a motorbike and pram as well. One area explores the household lives of people after World War 2 and exhibits the games that became popular, TV and childhood entertainment are both delved into too!

I went with my mum & two older kids and they were captivated on the plane tours we booked for a few quid extra.
Totally recommend booking these! Mark, Kevin & Nick were really enthusiastic, engaging & entertaining.
I went unaware I could climb into a Vulcan, very exciting!! Impressed my mum got up there too. The Nimrod stole the show for me, wow amazing piece of kit!!

Fascinating place, you can tell the staff and volunteers take great pride in the building and the exhibits. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, lots of interesting historical information about aircraft through last century, lots of focus on the world wars. We recommend booking onto a tour. it's a very small fee and we got to go into a Vulcan! And later we went into the Nimrod. Both guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. All staff were lovely in fact and theres a little cafe as well. Highly recommend a trip out here.

This museum is interesting and informative with a good selection of aircraft and a number of themed exhibit rooms to wander around.
There are tours of some of the larger aircraft like the Nimrod and Vulcan, you can get right up close to all of the aircraft.
We had a tour of the Nimrod, a first for me, the tour was really interesting covering the history of the aircraft and its various versions and modifications and a lot about is various missions.
There is also a really nice comfortable wee cafe with a good selection of snacks and beverages.
All of the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, there is plenty of parking, the toilets are fresh and clean.
A really good place to visit if you are in the area.

What a little gem. We stumbled across it while driving on the A47. Got there at 12 and we were the last ones to leave. On arrival we booked a Vulcan Bomber and Nimrod guided tour for myself, wife and daughter at a very reasonable £3.50 per adult and £2.50 for a child (per plane) the guides were very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. On site are picnic tables for packed lunches. Inside is a little cafe with pre-packed sandwiches and cakes along with hot and cold drinks (all reasonably priced).
All in all if you are into aviation and war relics from the 1900s to 2000s this is the place to come. We cant wait to come back when we are in the area. Keep up the good work!

Our visit was completely by chance, having spotted some of the museum’s aircraft as we drove by. If you are a military or civil aviation enthusiast, history or heritage buff, model builder, engineer, photographer, relative of someone who served during WW2 in in Royal Air Force 100 Group or US 8th Air Force, or just someone who loves a museum jam-packed with interesting stuff, then this is definitely the place for you. Dedicated volunteers clearly work hard to make the museum a success, and will take the time to explain things to you, or lead you on a tour of aircraft and cockpits onsite. There is so much to read and so much to examine here, inside and outdoors. Admission fee is reasonable and parking is free. Check out the website for the guided aircraft tours on offer, and for upcoming events. Expect to spend at least a couple of hours onsite.

We loved visiting the museum. Just a note for driving there you're probably best using what3words because the navi claimed we had arrived when we still had about 10 mins to the destination.
We unfortunately went on a day that no tours of the inside of the planes was being offered so that was disappointing.
However we enjoyed looking around. Certainly plenty of history and the nearby airport keeps you in the mood.
Would definitely recommend visiting especially if you have a child interested in planes. It's also one of the more pocket friendly outings. Tickets are the same price online or at the door so you can do it last minute if needed.

Beautiful, well kept, enchanting garden. The only thing worth noting is the steep pathway in and out, which may be a struggle for those with limited mobility. The garden has so much character and little bits of history. You can easily spend a day in the wonder of creation here. Boating lake, pond full of lilies, tennis, croquet, cafe, beautiful band stand, miniature railway and lovely walk through the gardens and grounds. A skate park / half pipe and children’s play area. This great church was built between 1884-1910 to the design of George Gilbert Scott Jnr (finished by his brother John Oldrid Scott after his death in 1897). I often come to this cathedral as I love looking at the architecture here. I have done the tower tour which I had prebooked online and it was worth paying for! The tour guide was friendly and so knowledgeable which made the already amazing experience even better. Also, all of the staff I’ve come across in this cathedral have been wonderful, I have no complaints about any experience I’ve ever had here. When I was last here looking around we had a lovely member of staff come up to us and gave us so much information about how the church works and also how it was built and why things are the way they are which was really interesting!

Fascinating place to visit . What makes this place special is the information they provide . I recommend first sitting down in a cosy corner of the conservatory and reading the leaflet. The one that lists the stories of some of the previous inhabitants is fascinating . Take a coffee flask and a sandwich and enjoy the peace of the garden whilst you read

Getting married at Dragon Hall was a dream from start to finish. Christina and the rest of the lovely staff made everything so easy, guided us through every stage of the planning, and helped us find wonderful suppliers for the food and decorating. It is such a gorgeous building filled with so much history, all the restoration and additions have been done beautifully, and it feels like a really warm and welcoming environment. Everything on the day was managed seamlessly, so we didn’t have to worry about anything and could just enjoy the day surrounded by our loved ones. Popped into Dragon Hall today with my daughter. A fascinating building with lots of history and stories to tell. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and took the time to talk to us, not only about the building itself but also the writing courses they do. My daughter also got to create a drawing of the Hall's last remaining dragon which the lovely lady on reception added to the welcome display, which made my daughter's day. When a 10 year, who has been to crazy golf, trampolining and Pizza Hut that same day, says her favourite bit was visiting Dragon Hall, you can't get higher praise than that!

The Guild Hall Norwich. Built between 1407 and 1414 grade 1 listed building made from flint, up close looking at the building makes you wonder how they managed to build this way so long ago.
The inside is amazing with it's old wooden features. So much history well worth a Google and read about it.

We just popped in to have a look but ended up staying for a slap up meal and experiencing the best service you could imagine! Good food reasonably priced, historic and tastefully converted interior. But the best part of the evening were the staff, warm, charming, hospitable and great fun. We visited Norwich Guildhall during the Heritage Open Days in Sept 2022 and we found the whole experience so interesting. John, our guide, was so knowledgeable and took his time for people in our group, to thoroughly understand the History. Showing us the dark Prisoner holding cells with the graffiti on the walls, really brings their gloomy existence in that time, to life. We came out of the Guildhall with so much information, of a building that I’ve grown up seeing regularly most of my life and didn’t know the full history of till John told us.

Absolutely fantastic experience! Staff were wonderful and polite and all 5 children enjoyed the fully immersive experiences! Children aged 1 to 8 and each room catered to all children being able to enjoy the same activities! Could easily have spent all day here! Definitely worth the money. Was also extremely pleased to see they are fully disability accessible even with a stair lift on the stairs to allow access to the upper level! We loved our visit to Exploring Science! We mainly went for my son (4) who is big on space and science but my daughter 18 months loved it too - a great sensory experience. There was loads to do my husband and I found it really interesting too. Some highlights were light tunnel, giant bubbles, loads of hands on science experiments, 3D sand, virtual reality ride, lunch being delivered by robots. Would recommend!

Took our 6 and 2 year old on a Saturday and had an amazing time. There is so much to see and do and the staff were brilliant with the kids. The two year old's favourite part was the space tunnel, which has a button at the start so you can change the lights, my six year old loved that a robot delivered our lunch to the table and the mission impossible style laser maze, I loved the escape room and my partner loved the dance mat.
The lab is a brilliant idea. Loads of hands on experiments, interactive educational bits and a huge collection of fossils, resin encased bugs, geological samples etc.
We stayed for the science presentation in the afternoon which was amazing and really interactive.
All in all we were there for 5 hours and only left because the two year old had worn himself out, but I think my six year old would happily live there. We'll definitely be going back.
There is nothing else like this in Norwich and I really hope they do well because it is so good.

I went here with the family and was blown away, this place is amazing , everyone had a wonderful time and I absolutely will be returning. The science lab was especially excellent , it had so many educational and fun attractions that last us a over an hour just by itself. Thought this place was a bit of a shambles. Obscenely high entrance fee. Walls covered in black mould, carpets full of dust - surely that's a health hazard? The place is full of conflicting noises at quite high volume and I think this will be overwhelming for most children under 7/8 and for those with sensory issues. There's a cool collection of items in here but they're laid out in quite a haphazard fashion with little educational input/information alongside. Some things are broken or missing pieces or don't have instructions. The robot cafe thing is cool but my child's hamburger looked disgusting and was overpriced (again). Staff that were around were friendly and helpful - thank god. There were interesting things here like the kinetic sand, the upside down room, etc, but there was no structure to the place at all and it was a shame to pay extra for all the vr. Please clean your walls and do better! This could be such an amazing asset for Norwich if done well...

We took our 5 year old grandson for a day out here and it was brilliant, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The interactivity was much better than I’d anticipated, there really is something for all ages. He wanted to go round twice he loved it all so much!
We were disappointed however with the food offering, it is overpriced for the quality, the accompaniments of a small pot of cucumber and carrot sticks and completely tasteless nachos were pretty awful. Our hot dogs were literally a frankfurter in a roll, nothing else. Can’t comment on the burgers but did notice that the pizzas look like cheap cash & carry/ frozen ones.
Please get someone with some imagination to sort out your food offering and you’ll have cracked it!

It’s always closed and we took the chance to visit it once when we found it open. There were some people who seem to be manning the place. It looks like an abandoned church with random stuff in the church building, cob webs, weeds and plants growing everywhere but no less charming. There were some carvings on the walls and some really old artifacts of the wall that were not explained, and these made the building compound really quite interesting. I read that this church is called St Peter Hungate which is a redundant parish church built during the medieval times from 1460. It’s later closed and converted to a museum of ecclesiastical art in 1932. The museum is later closed in 1995 and taken care of by Norwich Historic Churches Trust, and now occupied by ‘Hungate’ a centre for Medieval Art.

This a beautiful church. Lots of little details inside and out. When we went there was an art show that had a bit of sensuality to it. Not the type of art I would expect in a church. I applaud them for it. The garden in the back was a sea of different colored flowers and was very peaceful. A short walk down to Elm Hill. If you go there you have to stop by this church.

We completed walks A and B and saw many alleys, churches and historic buildings.

If you are someone who likes visiting museums where the exhibits are in a better condition than when they were probably made, displayed in lovely sterile conditions, then sadly this is not the place for you.
This place and it's custodians are a breath of fresh air, as me and my sons found out when visiting for a driving experience.
The place oozes a great atmosphere, from the moment you walk inside the building, you can smell the oil, the blood sweat and tears that have gone into keeping the exhibits mobile for future generations, not only to see but to hear and witness working as they should.
We were greeted by Stephen who was knowledgeable about all of the exhibits, from the big to the small. My sons got to experience a fraction of what daily life was like for military personnel using the various equipment displayed.
They got to experience sitting inside tanks, they handled and felt the weight of weapons, hopefully giving them a better understanding of how tough life was for the people who used this equipment, whether in peacetime or during acts of war.
Lastly if your doing the driving experience you will get the opportunity to drive the 6 wheeled Saladin and the BV206 all-terrain vehicle.
Each one has its own quirky driving characteristics and driving them is a unique experience. When you drive around the course you will be rocked, shaken a little dusty but overall, you will end up with the biggest grin on your face.
We had a fantastic time and hope that more and more people find out about this little gem.
They need visitors to help keep these machines of history alive and in working order, which is no easy task without support or donations.

Amazing museum.
Lots of armour, small arms and more. If you're interested in military or history then definatly worth visiting.
Displays are not behind ropes or fences - you can get right up close and even inside some. The staff are super knowledgable and friendly, they definatly know their stuff and are great to have a chat with.
If you have kids they'll love the fact you can get inside of tanks, can pick up and get a feel for the small arms (and happily cycle the action of a bolt-action) and play around with the telegraph/morse keys (Di-Di-Dit Dah-Dah-Dah Di-Di-Dit). If you don't have kids (like myself) - you get to do that all yourself instead!
There's a cafe on site which has good food and coffee
I feel there could've been a tad more information about some of the displays (don't think I saw anything about the engineering vehicles or the gate guards, or if there was I didn't see it)

Where do I start, it was the most unbelievable day of my life. The variety of the tank collection was awesome. Having a tour ride in the BV206 was incredible. The staff were friendly and happy to help. Stephen with his insane amount of knowledge was amazing and giving time to answer any questions we had. On my visit today we got to see the FV601 start up. It made the experience even better. Ticket prices were decent, easy parking and easy to find. I will definitely visit again for one of the event. We visited this museum as it hosted Armourfest - so the review and pictures are primarily in relation to being at the museum for that. We had been down to Tankfest, and this is considerably smaller - but actually in some ways a bit nicer! You felt a bit more part of it all as it was a tad less crowded, a lot less trade stalls etc. We got there shortly after opening and was there right up till the last events - which included us having a ride in the BV!
I thought it was all very well organised and we enjoyed the displays - could have done with a bit more commentary at times perhaps, but we pretty much kept busy all day. If you are driving over then the car park is a short journey away so be mindful of this with small kids or if your carrying round loads of chairs etc. (You might be better off dropping off and then parking car!)
A great day and look forward to going again at some point!

Went for a Home Ed day and found a gorgeous hidden gem - loads to see and do, very hands on, rides in various tanks (we had a bumpy trip around the track in the trailer of the Hagglunds BV 206), great nostalgia & history, morse code, Anderson shelter, medals & maps, rifles & landmines, just a fabulous little place and perfect size for an afternoon out. What a wondrous place! When we walked out it felt we had been there for a few minutes but well over an hour had passed. You will see all sorts of cultural exhibits, all labelled with very informative descriptions.
Another great thing about this is that it's a museum that is also a shop! Some of the items on display are up for grabs, in a very non-pushy way, so if you're planning on leaving with a bit of South Asia with you, there are options for all pocket sizes.

This was a fascinating museum to visit having free entry, showcasing Asian dolls and the history of their celebrations! Small animal objects like elephants can be seen too and plenty of Asian machinery is demonstrated, horse appears in the middle even. Surprising find in Norwich! Lots of interesting pieces apparently collected during the owners 45+ years of visiting the many cultures around India. Huge architectural carvings and small handmade pieces, fabrics, brass, wood, stone and leather. Makes me wonder about the influence of South Asian woodworking on Europeans since there were several chests which could be cousins to english chests of the 16th century and later.

A great little museum tucked away in the South Norfolk countryside. Open on Wednesday and Sundays throughout the year for static days (entry is free but please give a donation to help them continue) and May to Oct the 1st Sunday of the month is a steam up day, so you can see the various engines working and if on the "tour" hear about each one.
Of special interest, is the steam engine that once powered Tower Bridge in London, another that ran continuously in a Sarsons Vinegar factory for 25 years! ( see photos ) and a massive 3 cylinder 600hp engine that used to pump up to 98000 gallons an hour up 450 feet at Dover in Kent.

Fascinating history, Dr Rowan and the volunteers will talk to you (at length) about the engines but when you have one that used to open Tower Bridge then it's really something to talk about. There's also snacks, aga-roasted pork rolls and cheese toasties when we went, plus tea & coffee and ice creams in the small shop. They steam up first Sunday of the month but it's really interesting even when not steaming. A very enjoyable afternoon had by all; we will return. Big thanks to Dr Rowan and the team for the talks. Great atmosphere to the place.

We wanted to visit this museum as my husband had been in the printing industry all his working life. After looking at the information about this museum we thought is sounded very interesting, having working presses run by volunteers.
I have to say we were extremely dissapointed! Just a very small area with lots of different typefaces stored around, plus a few very ancient presses that were not working.
The guy in charge was very nice but admitted he was not a printer but a 'print historian'. He also informed us that all the machinery was in storage as they were hoping to relocate to a larger premises. Why was this not on their website?
So, all in all a waste of time, especially as we had travelled from Oxfordshire and paid for a hotel stay in Norwich.
Blickling Hall was lovely but we wouldn't have made the journey just for that.

One of the best things about Norwich are the enthusiastic people who give up their time to enthuse others. No better example of that than this marvellous place. All of the volunteers I have met are former print workers, and their knowledge and expertise are a joy to behold.
