My Mai Tai was good. But, it’s disappointing that they are charging five dollars for a topo Chico, that’s pretty much a one dollar drink, if that…they were just giving them away for free at the head of the Charles. I think Topochico is trying to become a thing, but hopefully they don’t price themselves as a thing, because it’s just a seltzer, so a little disappointing there. Really, we just wanted some seltzer from the bar, but they did not have any. So that was a disappointment. I would rate the drinks out of 3.5, because… Who does not have just seltzer from the gun at the bar? 3. The food was mixed. I loved my Hamachi sashimi. The charred cauliflower was good. The shrimp toast was good, but it was a little greasy, so please dial back a bit on that. The spicy miso Ramen that I ordered ‘to go’ was good. The wasabi roulette was tons of fun! Truly the highlight! When I lived in San Francisco, there was a chef that always used to “dose” one of the pieces if you ordered 12 with a lot of wasabi. This was similar, but it was so much more fun with the Horchata baby bottle. I love this idea and you should not get rid of it. This was truly a highlight, and tons of fun. Chicken tails were great. If all we had were that, I would give the food 5.0. Although, the shrimp toast was a little greasy. But my husband ordered the burger, and they said that it was one of the best in Boston, and it was… OK. Nothing to write Home about. So I’m going to give the Food 4.5, because everything else was super creative, but the burger was just sort of…meh. 4. Service was spectacular. A 5.0. They were super sweet about dealing with us and all of my questions and although one of the drinks came a little bit late, our server was upbeat and interesting. I would love to go again and play the wasabi roulette with friends. Did I have it all on my own? yes… Yes I did. And I would do it again. But it would be more fun with friends. From start to finish, it was great working with the team, Chris & Amanda! We emailed countless questions leading up to the day and they were always great in getting things answered and problem solving as needed. They have worked on many weddings and it shows why people continue to choose them. We had a wedding of about 60 guests and the space had more than enough room. We were able to utilize the patio space as well to get air when needed and so it was great to be able to spread out so comfortably. They could easily handle a larger wedding though as we originally were looking at higher numbers when we started. While your wedding day is overwhelming and you don't often get time to eat, the team made sure to bring us food on their upstairs balcony where we could hide out after our ceremony to eat and get a little quiet time away from guests. They also made sure to package anything we didn't eat (and the many leftover desserts that I overordered on from an outside source) for us to pick up the next day. We were so grateful for this and the food was still great as leftovers--truly! Their service is truly unmatched and they also are great in handling food restrictions/allergies--guests specifically noted this! They brought out smaller portions for those guests when needed so they still had enough options. We are still getting compliments on the food and drinks as well as atmosphere. Lots of ingredients was made in house including the tofu. Every piece has a story behind it and I absolutely loved every bit of it. We had a very private evening where Chef Chris made every piece in front of us and took the time to tell us the history of traditional Japanese cuisine. Not sure what tonic they used but this highball came off very balanced. It’s not that whiskey forward and really refreshing. When available: Sear Scallops – Salty and fatty from the soy sauce butter that it is cooked in. Seared perfectly. It’s one of my favorite things on the menu. Order every single time when I have a chance. Sword fish – It’s cooked in butter and served in a delicious soy sauce-based sauce with scallion oil on top. It reminds me of steam fish from Chinese cuisine but the butter and scallion oil on top makes it tastier. It’s savory, salty, and oniony from the scallion which a meaty sword fish can handle. Because it’s heavy sauce, I recommend having rice with it. Fried rice or a side of rice. Lastly, If possible, I recommend making a reservation for the weekend because it does get popular here. On the inside, it offers dining for 10 guests in an intimate and upscale setting. I was told by the chef and owner that the menu is frequently changed based on what ingredients are in season. When we went (April 2025), the menu was 6 appetizers and 10 sushi courses, plus miso soup and dessert with tea. The sushi was definitely more of a traditional experience (especially compared to other omakases in the area at a similar price point— think OYa). The appetizers stepped away from the traditional and got creative. A highlight was the Kegani dish. Crab, dash jelly, and tomato mousse was reminiscent of the best crab and cocktail sauce you’ve had. The sushi was some of the best I’ve had. The rice was perfectly seasoned. The balance of the warmth of the rice and fish was spot on. The chef is truly a master here. We opted to get the sake pairings. This turned out to be a choice well worth the price ($125). The pairings perfectly complemented the sushi. I don’t know how to explain how perfect they were other than saying that the sake pairings were equally as impressive as the sushi. Cari, the chef’s partner, put a lot of thought and work into selecting the perfect sake, and it was masterful! I’ve been to nearly every omakase in Boston. 311 is definitely in the top 3. It’s hard to compare directly to others that aren’t as traditional. But I think if you’re looking for tradition, simple, perfectly crafted nigiri, 311 might be the best in Boston. We were served fish I’ve never had before, preparations I’ve never had before, and they were incredible. The chef, team, and especially Cari served us an incredible experience, and their hard work and dedication showed.
