We visited Hill View Park early in the morning around 8 AM, just before heading for boating. At that time, we were the only visitors, which allowed us to enjoy the park and its viewpoints peacefully without any crowd. The park is very well maintained, and the early morning serenity adds to the charm.
However, do note that the adventure activities in the park begin later in the day and weren't available during our visit. Despite that, it’s definitely a must-visit place for anyone looking to experience the mesmerizing beauty of Idukki.
Tip: Visit early to enjoy the calm atmosphere and beautiful views, but if you're interested in adventure activities, consider going later in the day.

Beautiful place to relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of Idukki. The park is well-maintained with clean pathways and a calm atmosphere. Beautiful views of dams etc.
Also adventure activity park for sky cycle, Zip line, Gun shooting, Burma bridge, Kutta vanchi boating, etc. Separate entry fee for each activity.
Snacks bar, ice cream shop and well maintained Toilet etc.are there.

A well maintained park on a hill with a great view of the Cheruthoni &,Idukki dams, along with the reservoir. A watch tower is built on top of the hill to catch a glimpse of the dams and the hill ranges. There are also adventure sports available. Toilet facilities are good and maintained well.

One of the most stunning places I’ve visited in Kerala!
Idukki Dam is truly an engineering marvel and a peaceful escape into nature. The view of the dam surrounded by lush green hills and the massive reservoir is simply breathtaking. It's the first arch dam in Asia and the third tallest in the world – standing in front of it is awe-inspiring.

This waterfall falls on the way to Munnar from Kochi airport. Since we visited during May when it started raining we happen to catch a glimpse of this waterfall enroute. Not a great fan of crowded place but only the waterfall was good. Since it was afternoon when we visited this place, there were a lot of visitors around which made it very unpleasant experience for us. We just halted for 5 mins , clicked few pictures and we left the premises as soon as we can. Tip: try to visit this waterfall early morning so that the place is crowdless and the experience is great. I wouldn't recommend anyone to spend and time here.

Breathtaking experience.
Initially this was not in our itinerary. I was googling for some good places in munnar and came across this mesapulimala trek. Desperate to go, I read all reviews here. It is organised entirely by kerala forest dept. The website was showing trekking along with stay with 2 options. 1. Tent stay at base camp. 2. Rhodo mansion. Unfortunately we already booked our hotels so staying is not an option. Luckily I came across one review where the guys directly went at 4am in the morning for trek. So I went to forest office(mesapulimala booking) located in Rose/horticulture garden located in Munnar(towards top station road). There Forest official Biju sir explained everything abt the trek and we booked our tickets. Later he tagged us with one Jeep driver and shared us one location where Jeep would pick us in the morning at 4am. The location is always near munnar centre only.
As our stay is 30mins far from munnar. We started early at 3.30am. reached munnar around 4.05 the cab driver called us and was waiting there. We can park our own car behind forest office only. The Jeep ride took 1.5hrs to reach base camp. There we need to make entry and show tickets. From base camp again we must go to rhodo mansion. Again bumpy ride of nearly 30mins. Rhodo mansion is very expensive and nearly all rooms are occupied by foreigners.
Coming to the trek experience. It is simply wonderful. I could use all adjectives and still fall short of describing it's beauty.
Imagine a necklace. Rhodo mansion is the pendant and our trek starts from it and ends at the same point covering a circle of total 8kms.
The first peak was freezing cold with all the cool breeze going into our nose and throat. But from the next peak it was ok. Total we need to trek 7 hills and the 8th is mesapulimala.
Trek difficulty - Moderate to hard depending on your fitness. Don't think it is too difficult. With ample breaks one can finish the trek. Not recommended for old people. Guides will be there at the rear end waiting for everyone to come.
What to carry - just one bottle and some dry fruits will do fine. As it is very cold there we don't need much water. We carried plenty of water and snacks and had to distribute them to all.
Cost - 1000 per person for ticket. 3300 for Jeep ride for 6 persons. If you're 3 or 4 people chances are they'll tag us with remaining 3 or 2 people and make 6 for one Jeep. I thought this is expensive but after finishing the ride I felt it is fairly reasonable.
Total Time - started from munnar at 4am and reached munnar at 1.pm.
Other recommendations - Try tent stay on the night before trek for a good experience. Carry one stick for support during the trek. Girls must carry one hat for photos. People were taking hats from us for taking photos.
Finally, I would say that munnar trip without trekking mesapulimala is incomplete.

We visited Meesapulimala on October 3rd, 2025, with a group of 10+ friends. While the trekking experience itself was truly amazing, our stay at the camp was extremely disappointing.
The camp staff were friendly and the food was decent, so no complaints there. However, the facilities were in a terrible state:
There was no power supply at night; the entire camp was in darkness, and we had to depend on our mobile flashlights.
Tents leaked during the night, forcing us to stay awake through the cold.
There were very few chairs near the campfire, which lasted only about 30 minutes.
Restrooms were in horrible and unhygienic condition — only three were usable. The western toilets had broken flushes, no lights, and only cold water (at 11°C) provided in buckets and mugs.
We even saw a few foreign tourists at the camp, and it was quite embarrassing to think this might be their impression of our country.
Overall, while the trekking trail and views were excellent, the Kerala Forest Department must urgently address the basic amenities — power backup, clean restrooms, hot water, and proper lighting — to ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors.
This is not suitable for families or female travelers in its current condition.

Also the premises could be made a lot safer by proper fencing. The catchment area is very beautiful to watch.

Really an amazing place with great trekking and offroading experience. We can reach there by 4*4 vehicles and bikes only.The waterfall was breathtaking and the way to the waterfall was another kind of experience.We were a group of 14 people and it's safe if we're going with group, otherwise it's a bit risky place.Had a dip in the pool it was so cold.Be careful while you go there it's deep and rocks were slippery too.It had an entry fee of ₹500 for four wheeler but was really worth it.

Yesterday, my friends and I decided to take a spontaneous bike trip to the mesmerizing Madammakkulam Waterfalls. The monsoon season was in full swing, and we were eager to experience the falls in all their rainy glory.

A secluded serine waterfall from the crowd located deep inside the Ashley Estate area. The roads are pretty rough for normal cars and scooters. The off-road area lasts for about 10km. Can be approached easily with any car with a ground clearance of atleast 200mm(if you don't mind getting scratched by the bushes).
I went in a Hyundai creta which couldn't climb the last 1km of the route which could only be covered in a 4x4.
The path from kuttikanam is being renovated and hope to see a full fledged tarred road soon.
The waterfall is safe (except during heavy rainfall). A person who is 5 feet tall can easily move around without knowing swimming.
The rocks are pretty slippery and sharp. So avoid doing unwanted things.
P.S : Do not get fooled by Google maps, as it shows multiple routes from wagamon. The only route is from kuttikanam

One of the must visit place in Idukki. Vast meadows leading to rocky mountains. The staffs are very helpful here, they took us to the view points and explained each and every flora and fona of the place. It’s windy, chilly and beautiful. Not crowded during weekdays.

But, the boating at their backyard is not a recommend option as the water is not clean . I would rather prefer boating at other places in munnar.

We went on the Tea Valley Tour for R400 per person. The minibus was comfortable and the excursion was pleasant. I would recommend this as an affordable way to see some of the main sights in Munnar. The only downside was that the place we were dropped for lunch wasn’t great, I only wish we had asked to be dropped back at the info centre where there are a couple of better options.

Expérience plus que négative. Je ne comprends pas pourquoi le guide du routard en parle.
Nous nous sommes rendues à l’office du tourisme de Munnar pour réserver un treck d’une journée dans les plantations de thé. Nous avons été accueillies par une dame d’un 50e d’années qui nous indique qu’un treck de 5h est disponible le lendemain.
Nous payons 3200 INR pour deux, cela me parfait cher sur le moment mais je ne fais pas trop attention.
Le lendemain nous faisons le treck avec le guide à disposition et la marche dure 3h au lieu de 5h initialement prévue. Le guide nous dit que c’est parce que nous marchons vite…
Nous remarquons le soir même que le guide du routard indique que le prix est de 800 INR par personne pour un treck de ce type.
La femme à l’accueil nous a donc littéralement arnaqué et nous a fait payer pour 4 personnes alors que nous étions 2. Elle a du garder l’argent pour elle car le guide avait l’air de nous faire comprendre qu’il était très peu payé… j’espère que la direction verra mon avis !
C’est inadmissible. Ceci doit être dénoncé !
Je ne peux malheureusement pas mettre en dessous de 1/5 mais si je pouvais je mettrais 0.

One of the best waterfalls in Munnar. Actually it is located near Thekkady-Pooppara road. Only choose that road where you can find the location on the right.
