Absolutely loved my experience here! When I visit a city, I love an adventurous foodie experience at least once where we can splurge and small plate restaurants are my favorite for doing just that. In a city where cheese and burgers are ubiquitous, we needed a break from typical American food and we got that and more at Odd Duck. The service was awesome from the host to the food runner (special shoutout to them) and our server. We ordered about 5/6 dishes as per our servers suggestion and I enjoyed every single one. We started with the chips and dip, the karretensalah, the hamachi crudo (as coursed by them) it was a good fresh start, my favorite being the crudo here then the salad was super fresh and I loved the touch of the apples. We went into the hot food after, which were the smashed potatoes coated in tahini and something sweet which was a nice tough to balance the savoriness and umami flavor of the tahini. Then we got the lamb manthi dumplings which were good but not as good as the Japanese beef short rib curry. So comforting and flavorful and rich! The pork belly was another favorite as well and I’ve never considered pairing with black eyed peas but it was awesome.
For dessert, we got the crème brulee (a MUST HAVE) need I say more. And the chocolate ganache cake with meringue cookies, this was good but if you choose only one go for the crème brulee.
The drinks we ordered were also very unique and flavorful. They have an extensive wine list which I enjoy but I felt like I was missing out if I didn’t order a cocktail and I’m glad I did.
Overall, loved this experience and sad I don’t live in the Midwest anymore so my chances of returning are slim but I will recommend to anyone visiting Milwaukee.

Odd Duck is quirky and delightful. My partner and I went here for a birthday celebration, recommend getting a reservation. I loved all the duck decor. The staff was down to earth and kind. All of our food selections from the menu were adventurous but still accessible. The only thing I wish could have been better was the noise level. At some points it was overstimulating. That being said, once the menu rotates, we will be back.

Odd Duck was fantastic! my wife has Celiac disease and i have a nut allergy. they were so accommodating, they marked off everything we couldn't eat from the menu and handed it back to us. everything was delicious, especially the crispy fried oyster mushrooms. we will absolutely be coming back to taste the menu again in the next season. thank you Odd Duck 💖 you made our month.

This is the third time I’ve come here. The dessert drink was absolutely delicious, I haven’t had a drink this yummy for a while. We tried several dishes and we loved the catfish. It was crispy and juicy. The crispy mushroom was not my favorite. The breading was too thick and hard made it difficult to eat. The flavor was really good I just wish the breading was lighter. Buttermilk chicken is good, I loved the grits. Overall it was a fantastic experience again, I would recommend it to my friends.

We had an enjoyable dinner here. We had heard much about this place and we are happy we could make it for dinner during our short stay in Milwaukee. We ordered the board with cheese and charcuterie, the oyster mushrooms, the hamachi and two desserts. The hamachi dish and desserts were delicious. The board offered a great variety of cheese, salami and pate. The oyster mushrooms, while tasty, were much too salty. We opted to eat at one of their tables outside. It was much quieter.

Finally made it here after hearing its a must eats. Definitely lives up to the hype. Good for small groups and sharing dishes. Each dish had such flavorful bites. Some spicy, some salty, some sweet. And save room for dessert. Sat at the bar, had great service. Very friendly. No aura of too good for you. Decent french wine on happy hour menu. Went on a Tues and easy time getting seated at 6pm. Got busier as it got later.

We were so lucky to get tickets for this year’s Halloween six course menu based on the Goddess Baba Yaga! We were welcomed in with a cocktail, a beet deviled egg, pickled mushrooms, and a savory cracker. Highlights of the meal included pine cone jam on the fanciest ham and cheese sandwich, a large plate of stuffed quail, the delicious pierogis, potato salad with rich smoked trout, and the Baba Yaga’s hut cake, a cheesecake with tart cranberry sauce. The owners truly love Halloween and it is so fun to see the decorations and costumes. We will absolutely back for both other Halloween dinners, as well as a nice date night. Everyone at our table- besides my husband and I- had been to Odd Duck and were singing their praises of their deviled eggs and unique cocktails.

A genuine neighborhood restaurant. If you like German food, you will like it here. There were seven of us so we had a wide selection from the menu. Two of us had the beer flight which consisted of seven German beers. Check the photos for the atmosphere. Transported us back to Germany. Our server was excellent and answered any questions. I haven't been here for a few years, but it's such a wonderful thing to be able to visit an old world multi-generational restaurant, especially a german one. In wisconsin we don't have too many of those left so I was eager to see their current menu. So many great choices. I started the evening with a bourbon Manhattan, which was absolutely delicious, however, they didn't have Luxardo cherries which for me makes all the difference in the garnish for a Manhattan. The food the food was amazing! I ordered a bowl of the liver dumpling soup, yes I love liver. We're going to then I ordered the Polish Warsaw but ask for no bun. He came with a side of red sweet and sour cabbage, fries, and wow cheese curds. I haven't a couple of great conversations going on at the bar. It was a very enjoyable evening. As I was heading to my car I heard a little music so I went to to check it out and it was a band in the biergarden. What a treat! I'll be back.

Lemon drop & cheese curds were great! Everything else was just ok but that may be because I don't eat German food often so I'm not used to their way of cooking. The duck was expensive for what it was. It had ok flavor but the potatoes were sticky & gravy ran everywhere (including off the plate). The live band was interesting

Stopped into Kegel Inn hoping for a classic German meal, and while the service and atmosphere were both excellent—warm, welcoming, and full of old-world charm—the food just didn’t live up to the setting.
I ordered the Rouladen, which was unfortunately dry and tasted like it had been made well ahead of time, lacking that fresh, comforting flavor you’d expect. The Schnitzel à la Holstein wasn’t bad, but it felt more like a deconstructed chicken piccata than a thoughtfully executed German dish—technique could use some tightening up.
Considering the underwhelming quality of the food, the prices felt steep. Kegel Inn nails the vibe and hospitality, but the kitchen needs to catch up. Here’s hoping they can bring the food in line with the rest of the experience.

The beer flight was perfect. The red cabbage was exactly what I wanted. My partner had the schnitzel and loved it. A little something for everyone. The music was A+. Joni Mitchell, steely Dan, Paul Simon, etc. made a huge difference. Strongly recommend this place! We had gone to Maders a few months back and did not like it. This is the place to go for German food.

Let me tell you, I have dreams of this place and I think I dream a lot about food so that's saying something. I don't know why this place isn't in my rotation more but I'm definitely going to change that! Came in with a group of 3 and walked right into the grill, that's when you know the food is going to hit. When the kitchen is in the open they have nothing to hide but the recipe, it's going to be some of the best food you've ever had! We were seated pretty fast and met with a waitress relatively fast. I wish I remembered her name but she was a sweetheart, she had some good jokes and some good stories to tell. She also gave a great recommendation and convinced me a flight of hotdogs is what I needed in my life. She was absolutely right, and everything was absolutely on point! I love that all the sausage is interchangeable with each style so they have endless possibilities. The drink menu was pretty solid, the specials were on point and to round it off the price was perfect. If you are new to the area this is definitely the place to start. Honestly, try all the different dogs I'm sure you can find something you'll like, my favorite is a Seattle dog!

Cool bar environment with late night hours (Open till 12am!). We had the vegan Italian sausage, vegan brat, fries, loaded vegan fries and deep-fried buffalo tofu. Everything tasted delicious; I was really impressed! I can't wait to come back and try some more of the sausages and the unique topping combinations, not to mention the ginger tofu. Our server was Ana - she was a very sweet waitress doing her best. I appreciated her attention to detail and friendliness.

Apologies, halfway ate through these appetizers before photographing, whoops. Wanted something different for dinner and got just that. The menu was a little confusing but the waiter/bartender took the time to explain things to us before and actually more after the food came out. They were very kind answering my kids questions too. Everything was made hot to order and was very filling. We had brats, burgers, fries, poutine, and tofu. It was delicious and we're absolutely stuffed.

My wife and I had our first experience with Ethiopian cuisine at Alem, and it was extremely impressive and delicious. The sambusas, veggie combo with smaller portions of 4 different vegetarian dishes, doro tibs and juicy spicy beef tibs were all out of this world and were served with delicious injera bread. I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough, it was truly excellent with very friendly service.

Unique ethnic dining experience. One of our party ordered 4 vegetarian items on sampler plate, we 3 ordered lamb, chicken and beef. If you allow, it'll come on a unified giant circular tray. It's so big that if yr a party of 4 sit at a table of 6 if not busy. VERY FLAVORFUL. The menu description of a few items as very spicy is misleading as it is not hot, just well seasoned so don't shy away. My favorite veggie side was the lentils. Sambusa beef appetizers great. Try the Ethiopian beers. Ask for silverware including spoon for large platter.

The taste of Ye Tibs Firfir and Doro Wot was amazing, but there was only a single drum stick in the Doro Wot. It was too little chicken for full size chicken entree in my opinion. They give a huge amount of injera, which is good. However, the proportion of the overall dish is off for Doro Wot. The owner was really nice and the food was delicious, but slightly disappointed with the Doro Wot. Otherwise, I would have rated this place 5 stars.

You must go here for some amazing Mexican food! They have lots of vegan options as well for plant based eaters. Chips and salsa are complementary as well. I got the vegan enchiladas with tofu and mole sauce. Their mole sauce is the best I've ever had. The pepper flavors really shine. The tres leche cake is the perfect ending to your meal. I also had a Thai Basil lemonade that was refreshing and left me wanting another. Love the color of the drink and the cute garnish - I like to feel fancy even though I don't drink alcohol, they achieved that.
Honestly, the service, food/drink and atmosphere was appreciated. I will be back - no doubt about it!

Love love love! My new favorite tacos place. So many choices even terrific vegan options. Love the tacos box! You can get 5 different tacos. Loved them all. The chicken one was Chipotle, which isn't my favorite flavor, but the chicken was moist and tender. My husband is from New York and we visit this place often enough but after this time, not sure if we will be back. This is the third time this has happened to us. When we arrived on Friday we ordered our pizza and they told us it will be ready in a half hour. We went upstairs to wait as we usually do, and came back down after 30 mins only to learn that the ticket “never made it to the back” and they didn’t make our pizza. The guys that make the pizza don’t seem to care at all that they didn’t get the ticket, like it’s not their problem. What makes me upset is there is no empathy from any of the staff when this happens. You’re just out of luck and without food even though you paid and waited for your pizza. This is really disappointing as I don’t love the pizza, but when you’re hungry and order food, you expect it to be done when they say it will be done. We got our refund because we didn’t want to wait another half hour this time. Do better Ian’s - again this isn’t the first time this has happened. Figure out a better process to get your customers their food when they order it.

Ian’s Pizza is always a great stop when I’m downtown. They usually have about a dozen different pizzas ready, so there’s something for everyone. The slices are large, and they also offer breadsticks and a rotating selection of specialty pizzas, which keeps things interesting each time I visit.
One of the coolest features is the second floor arcade area — around 12 arcade games, so you can hang out, play, and make it more of an experience rather than just a quick bite.
Parking is something to be aware of: there’s no dedicated lot, so you’ll need to use street parking or one of the paid lots nearby. But the location is extremely convenient — right near Fiserv Forum and the Deer District, making it a perfect stop before or after events.

Not gonna lie, I was a bit skeptical when my boyfriend told me this was one of his top pizza places, but he was correct!
We came in and it was pretty empty, so we had time to look through the choices. I wanted to try something new and special. I got the Smokey the Bandit and absolutely loved it! It was balanced, a bit salty, but the sauce on top was great. I really enjoyed the restaurant itself and the food. The crust is the perfect chewy and crispy, a great thickness, and topped with quality toppings.
I crave this every time I look at pictures and when I'm craving pizza, but I'm sad I'm about 8 hours away! I recommend if you're coming home from a night out, come here because it will satisfy your late night cravings! I think each slice was about $4.
There's street parking and a couple places around that area to explore!

Pizza is pretty good. I tried three different slices and found the Mac and Cheese to be my favorite of the three. The bread sticks are ok, though they look amazing. It's definitely worth trying, and if I lived closer I could see coming here again to see if there's a better slice for me.

Absolutely LOVE Ian’s! Besides the cool specialty slices (like the classic mac & cheese) they’re known for, this location also had a nice dining area upstairs with games lining the walls. My personal favorite is the baked penne pizza, but they have a ton of great slices and a variety of different options (including vegetarian & vegan choices). Beerline Cafe was the food highlight of our first trip to Milwaukee! Every single thing we tried (and we ordered probably 10 things lol) was amazing! I chose the Hollandaise crepe with tofu scramble, and I also tried the chorizo tacos. The tacos were really good with amazing salsa. The Hollandaise is legitimately the yummiest vegan entree I've EVER had at a restaurant. My boys got the cheesesteak crepe and the blueberry lemon crepe. I tried the blueberry and it was outstanding! My daughter ordered the cinnamon roll pancakes, mac and cheese, cheesy potatoes, and shortbread cookies. We also each tried one of their yummy coffee drinks or fresh juices which were all yummy. I tried it all and it's just incredible food. Ultimately, it's obvious these people can cook and season to perfection! Top that off with an awesome vibe, friendly, helpful staff, and a stunning location and you have a winner. Definitely don't skip this one if you are vegetarian or vegan! Almost everything is vegan or veganizable, and it's all vegetarian. Even my 2 non-veg kids loved it though.

Shahrazad offers quite a selection for those who want great middle-eastern food on a tight budget. Ive had their Chicken Shawarma Sandwich, which is phenomenal, multiple times, which is my favorite, but they also have options if meat isn't your forte, for one reason or another.
Affordability, especially in our modern day, is unfortunately waining and ceasing to exist as a concept. No longer is this the case. A filling meal, if you know what you're doing, will run you anywhere from $9-$17, and believe me, one sandwich is enough.
Overall, if you're craving middle-eastern, then look no further!

The downside of my entree was that it was served with plain white rice. The rice had some spices and mint on top as well as saffron but was tasteless. Same plain, tasteless white rice accompanied their meals. One member of my party had lamb. While the lamb was not tough, it was extremely salty. The dish included grilled veggies and a red tomato sauce.The decor in this restaurant is extremely outdated as well as the bathrooms. I sat in a wooden chair that I thought was dry rotten and would collapse. The bathroom was clean but so outdated it appeared dirty. While the food was not awful, I was not happy to have spent almost 70 dollars and not be satisfied. I will not be returning and I don't recommend going there.

A great oasis for vegans, and especially vegan travelers. Being on the road and eating plant-based can get tricky, but MKE has this covered well. We had Tofu Scramble, biscuits and gravy, and French toast. It was a beautiful day, we sat outside and enjoyed conversation and some sunshine. I think the food could be better overall, but judging by the amount of business I also understand that keeping up with high demand can come with slightly less attention to detail. Went to the Damascus Gate and I was glad I did! The building itself, aside from some reconstruction going on outside at the moment, is pretty spacious, atmospheric and pretty on the inside! The service inside was nice and quick, friendly, and git me my food soon after taking my order! Side food was really good! Falafel, meat and rice dish, hummus, and on a lessee note lentil soup amd bread were all tasty and at a good affordable price! Aside from the soup and bread JUST NEEDING to be a pinch better and the area the restaurant was in being a little shady, I liked Damascus Gate and would suggest giving it a try once if you're in the area!

Delicious Middle Eastern option. Not much ambiance but food is so tasty. Be patient, all food scratch made with limited staff.
Our party of four was one of only two tables seated on cold Saturday night but they were also moving a fair amount of carry out. Son ordered the vegetarian app sampler. I got the two children skewers, probably the best flavor I have have experienced with chicken. Wife and other son got the two skewer sampler and side of lentil soup. All included delicious hummus.
All in all a good experience at a hidden gem on near south side.

The restaurant lays in the heart of historic Milwaukee. It’s cozy, nicely decorated. When you enter the world of Damascus from the music to the pictures and the smell of delicious food. The owner welcomed us warmly and the service was very quick and nice. The Yalngi ( Vegan stuffed grape leaf) melted in my mouth and I didn’t even need to chew it. The Kebbah (a thin layer of bulgur stuffed with finely ground lean meat with Middle Eastern spices, then fried) reminds me with my mom’s Kibbah and there were the best I ever had in a restaurant. The Kabab, rice and hummus were yummy.
This is the most authentic Syrian food I've had in a long time! This is a restaurant run by a person from Syria who still has the touch of true Syrian food. The taste and quality are unbeatable! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a good experience and soul satisfying food!

While I have had the desire to visit this place for the last 8 months, it being listed on Milwaukee Magazines "52 restaurants to visit in 2020" moved it to the top of the list. Located in the historic section of Mitchell Street, you need to really look to find it. As I visited this restaurant at 3:30 PM, it was less than crowded. I was immediately seated, and some of the entrees were on display in a case, and also described by the waitress. I started with a Turkish coffee, and placed my order. About 20 minutes later the waitress apologized, and informed me that the kitchen's printer had malfunctioned and they had just received my order.
In about 15 minutes I received my appetizer, the Spinach Fatayer, a type of savory tart with a filling of spinach.
In another 10 minutes I received the Mixed Grill entree. A mix of a large Kefta Kabob and four pieces of grilled chicken, flanked by a roasted tomato and grilled onion, all set on a generous bed of saffron rice. A small salad, a small dish of hummus, and pita bread were included. Everything was incredibly fresh, hot, and well seasoned.
At the close of the meal I commented to the waitress how much I enjoyed everything, especially the appetizer. She offered to get me samples of a couple of the appetizers that were off menu. I also ordered an order of grape leaves, and a dessert of Kunafa (baked sweet cheese) to go. At a sum total of less than $26.00, I will be returning.

Spectacular food and service! Ordered catering from here for my son's birthday after trying it at another party. Food was hot and came on time, was excellently priced, and the portions were incredibly generous (we have leftovers even after giving away multiple boxes of food). The food is amazing and delicious, so aromatic, and even typing this out is making me crave more! Meat was tender and juicy, rice was expertly seasoned, and the desserts were so good I forgot to take pictures. Owners and staff are so humble and it was a pleasure dealing with them for our special event. First coming in, it’s very welcoming. One of the few restaurants that offers orange soda!! Damascus Gate offered a large variety of food. They even made a custom order for me when I told them I wasn’t hungry. They served me the BEST DISH! It was so delicious, I had never tasted anything like that in my life. They had yellow rice underneath little chunks of mildly spicy chicken and strips of lamb (sorry about the picture, everybody dug in before I could get a good one haha) 11/10 would come here again. A very cool place. I had a Zuschlagen and an Irish stout, which were both excellent. The food was also really good. Since becoming vegan I've missed good bar food and snacks, which is what was available here. My girlfriend and I split the pub nachos, a pretzel and the Schmo pizza. The portions were really generous and the taste was great. Would highly recommend if you live locally. The girl working behind the bar was very friendly and suggested other places of interest to my girlfriend.

We had our rehearsal dinner here, and it was fabulous! We are meat eaters, but we love the vegan pizzas so much that we didn’t hesitate to book Dead Bird. The pizza was delicious as always. The catering menu was new to us, but it was delicious and surpassed our expectations. I have been coming to Taqwas for about 3 years now and the services have been attentive and consistent. The food has been just so great in many ways. The vegetables in salads or have been grilled always had excellent textures, flavors color combinations and diversity. The soups have been very creamy, herby and served at the best temperatures. We stopped to eat while in town for a concert. We were a little concerned about being about to pronounce things on the menu and figure what we’d like but the waitstaff was absolutely fantastic and friendly. We started with hummus and their naan bread and it was amazing. The presentation of the hummus plate was so cool!
The mixed grill was recommended and it was fantastic. We also got the Mansaf and it was fantastic. The broth was so good we wish they would give us the recipe :)
For desert we got a cream cheese stuffed flaky croissant called a Fatayer and pistachio Baklava - both very good!

Everybody had a different favorite item. Outside strip mall vibe didn’t match the interior beauty. Divya was pleasant and helpful and shared a bit about the family-owned restaurant when I asked. The food was very aromatic, especially the next day when we enjoyed leftovers. The baklava dessert was fresh, and the honey on it seemed distinct. Overall not my typical cuisine but very good all around. I loved the water jug, receipt box, and other functional pieces of art throughout.

Hands down, this has to be one of my top dining experiences in Milwaukee or anywhere. From the great service, to the colorful atmosphere and the amazing food, I have zero complaints. For our appetizer we had the hummus and fatayer (one cheese one meet), entrees we had the mixed grill and the dawalee (stuffed grape leaves) and for dessert we had one pistachio and one walnut baklava.
Everything we ate was very fresh and flavorful. We will definitely be back!

My absolute favorite breakfast spot! I've gone almost once a week since they've opened. Everything I've tried has been delicious. I love so much of the menu, I usually order a second meal to go! My personal favorites are the bagel sandwich & the cheesy hash. The cold brew old fashioned is a MUST! You can't go wrong with their smoothies either. Their rotating selection of desserts are great, I especially loved the butterscotch bars.
I took my non-vegan dad here as well as some other vegan breakfast spots while he was in town. Lafayette Place was by far his favorite! He wants to go back next time he visits to get the chorizo burrito again.

Fantastic! Food was ready right on time, the server that brought our food out to be picked-up curbside was incredibly kind and double checked our order with us right at the window! Food was DELICIOUS and still hot by the time we got home. We will definitely be back for more vegan food!

I'd seen the space being prepared to open for months, and stopped in on a whim today because they looked to be open! The atmosphere of the diner is very bright and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They have a mobile order/pay system that was super convenient, so I got to order at my pace without having to wait for someone to take my order. I got The Classic breakfast and a pumpkin pie smoothie, and everything was delicious! I have Celiac, and was assured the kitchen would use fresh pans/utensils for me, and the GF bread they had was delicious.

This is the newly opened sister restaurant to the Pita Palace on Layton Ave. Glad to report this location does just as good of a job with providing delicious Mediterranean food. A much needed cuisine in this area. Nicely decorated with a comfortable atmosphere. The menu is pretty much the same as the Layton Ave location but with a few changes. They still provide large portions and great customer service. This is the place to try if you've never had Mediterranean food. Lots of choices. My favorite is the mixed Arabic sandwich. The Mixed grill is also very good. Order at the counter and take a seat as all the food is prepared to order. Staff brought our food to the table when it was ready. Gyros are one of the different items offered here along with burgers for those who prefer that. Can't wait to get back for another visit.

Love this place and so excited we have Mediterranean cuisine in Greendale/Franklin area. (Don't worry for you basic eaters they also have hamburgers, fries and gyros.) The day I was there around 11:30am on a Friday the staff was very friendly, food was delicious and place was very clean with a Mediterranean flair of decor. Prices are reasonable and nice size portions. Comfortable and nice place to eat in or take out. Skip Taco Bell and McDonald's and come here to try something different and support this place.

By far one of the best restaurants I’ve visited in the USA, my work takes me different cities almost every week, first time I came was on 2021 and two years after they keep the quality and the flavors, while in there check the sand brewed Turkish coffee it’s quite an experience, every time in town Pita Palace is a must for me personally.

Second time ordering food for takeout. Fantastic & fast. The shawarma was great and the gyros were also very good. I’m a big guy and i could not finish the dinner! My wife & I also loved the baklava. Crispy & sticky the way it’s supposed to be! You can also eat in but we didn’t have time for that. Did i mention they were fast too? I think we had our food in less than 10 minutes.
