Most days there were a few Sea turtles on their private beach where we enjoyed their company in an incredible setting.  The cottage was amazing!  The workmanship and detail of materials used in the wonderful bathroom with walk-in shower all done artistically in stone and tile, top of the line kitchen appliances and beautiful woodwork, local art, and huge beautiful furnished Lanai with a wonderful view of the property oceanfront and a look-back view of the mountain provided a relaxing perch where we spent hours every day.  The Inn office and staff were a great resource for local information.  The restaurant is an incredible Tahitian-atmosphere setting with incredible art and woodwork, wonderful knowledgably fun staff, great views, freshest food, and libations.   We much preferred dining at the inner bar and conversing with their bar staff.   Mamma’s menu includes fresh local fish caught daily by their own fisherman, local produce and beef, and wonderful seafood they source from special places.  Between my wife and I we worked our way through almost the entire menu which wasn’t easy since  they were catching Opakapaka, also known as pink snapper which was so good I had trouble not having that.  My wife had the Haleakala Ranch Beef Filet and I had the “Pulehu” Beef Short Rib & Lobster Tail which were both among the best beef dishes we have ever tasted.  A very special dish I tried was Mama’s Bouillabaisse which I can’t wait to have again next trip.  The deserts, house made ice cream and their sorbet were all wonderful.  Try a Mama’s Coffee for her special treat!  There is a small market a short walk away where we would pick up fresh Poke’, Hanna banana’s, local Avocado’s,  fresh pressed coffee, and a six-pack of Kohloa Brewing Red Sand Amber beer, then head back to our Lanai to enjoy.  We experienced an incredible thunderstorm while we were there and it snowed up on Haleakala National Park.  We drove up the mountain which is s short drive from Mammas.  We will spend more time up there on our next stay.
