Specialty Museums
Located in the Aosta Valley of northern Italy, Fort of Bard is a historic fortress dating back to the 1830s. It played a significant role in defending the territory and withstood Napoleon's advance for two weeks in 1800. The fortress now features museum exhibits, interactive areas for children, and offers panoramic routes for visitors to explore its imposing stone buildings. Renovated in 2006, it also houses the Museum of the Alps and hosts exhibitions by renowned international artists.
Large fortress that underwent some restorations after the Napoleonic era. Today it hosts museums, exhibitions and events that combine ancient history and modern art; slow-paced walks, also enjoying the surrounding nature, in contrast with the highway and the nearby town. The Ferdinando museum houses numerous cannons and weapons that tell the story of the many conflicts that have characterized this place. It is recommended to purchase the ticket on abbonamentomusei.it to visit all the castles and sites of the Aosta Valley. Dogs allowed inside it carrier. Paid parking.

I must have travelled the freeway below this massive fort controlling the narrow passage between the steep and dangerous mountain sides more than a hundred times over the past 30 years without reflecting on what you might find inside. This time I took a day trip from home in Switzerland with the aim to discover this surprisingly interesting place steeped in history lasting over 800 years. It's now owned and administered by the region of Aosta and houses 6 museums, a large museum shop, a cozy 11 room hotel and restaurant as well as a café. If you buy a simple entrance ticket you will access two exhibitions of your choice, if you want to see all six museums, the price is about double the ordinary entrance fee. There is ample parking around the castle, the near-most being paying. Access is either via an ingenious series of funiculars or by foot on a winding road. Avoid visiting on a busy day not to spend your time waiting to access the funicular system. I came on a Friday afternoon mid May 2025 and was surrounded by 15 year olds trying to learn Italian history, not the most serene situation. You do need a full day to fully appreciate the place so I will come back to spend a night here before touring the premises.

So much to see here! There are 5? main buildings, each housing different museums and (temporary, rotating) art exhibits. Costs €12 to visit 2 of any things of your choice or €24 to visit everything. But you can visit all the exterior fort for free! This is definitely worth it if you want a quick look and get a good view from the top of the Fort. If you want to visit the museums, you'll need a few hours to spare! Our 2 choices were both in the Carlo Alberto building (at the top). We did the Museum of the Alps which has SO MUCH to see, and quite the diversity of history and information. This took us 2 hours and we didnt look too closely at half of it. Could definitely take 2-4 hours depending on your interests. Absolutely 1 of the best ways to spend a solid chunk of your day here. 2nd, we did the prisons downstairs in the same building. This was cool but much quicker (like 30 mins). It was a toss up between the prison and the Ferdinando building at the bottom.. unsure what all that offers or the time it takes to visit. In total we spent about 3 hours here, and could have spent much longer if we got the full package. Lots of history here and offers a neat view of the valley. I would recommend it, but again, you'll need time if you want to visit any museums. I personally didnt care to visit any of the art exhibitions. From what I've gathered, they kind of have nothing to do with the Fort itself, so didnt seem worth any of my 2 choices.

Have you even been to Valle d’Aosta if you haven’t visited Forte di Bard? The structure is just impressive in its size and location! Inside is pretty bare, but the museums and exhibits are super interesting.
Liza B — Google review
The castle is beautiful, no doubt there. However, we wanted to take a quick walk within the walls, and there is unfortunately no ticket allowing you to just stroll around. You have to purchase a ticket for 12e which allows you to enter 2 out of 6 available exhibitions/ “museums”. Maybe it would not be that frustrating if a couple in front of us wasnt allowed to enter for free by stating “we only came for a walk” in italian. We checked the japanese exhibition which was rather mediocre, not much to learn from it. We would appreciate some story behind and more descriptions behind the pictures. The other exhibitions was the prisons which was more interesting - you can see the real prison rooms and how the castle was evolving over time.

19th-century fortress, part of the fortifications of the Aosta Valley. The fortress is well maintained and houses a rich permanent exhibition (about forts and fortresses throughout history), as well as interesting temporary exhibitions. Entrance tickets: - €12 for visiting the fortress itself and two exhibitions - €24 for visiting five exhibitions Both tickets include access to the lifts. The ticket price is absolutely worth it.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled near the picturesque hamlet of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, Castel Savoia is a stunning manor house built between 1899 and 1904. This fairytale-like castle boasts five turrets and an elegant interior, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding valley from its location at the foot of Colle della Ranzola.
This is a wonderful castle that has been conceived and built in the early 20th century, in the style of a medieval castle, but with all the technology and modern comforts of the time. For example, electricity for lighting, a central heating system and a telephone.. this large mansionhouse was built based upon the desires of the Queen Margherita of Savoy, wife of the King Umberto I, and a great admirer of the Aosta Valley, and in particular of the Gressoney Valley. The decorations throughout the castle reflect the heraldic symbols, coats of arms and mottos of the House of Savoy. A guided tour is highly recommended, given the added value of all the historical, symbolic decorations and biographic information one can get. The garden around the castle is very nice and interesting as well, as it is in fact quite a botanical garden where plant species from all over the world are represented. The visit of the whole property is highly recommended, as is a reservation.
Carlo S — Google review
This summer residence castle was built for the Queen Margherita of Savoy from 1899 to 2004. It must have been a major undertaking, just like the Margherita refuge that was constructed for her mountain excursions on Monte-Rosa above 4000 m altitude. You are obliged to visit the castle with a guide which will give you all the stories and anecdotes you need to understand what was going on in the royal family in the beginning of the 20th century. I had an excellent and fun guide. The only problem is that you need to have a rather good knowledge of Italian to follow the stories you are told since all guides appear to speak Italian only. When I visited a Friday mid June of 2025, the magnificent interior main stairs were unfortunately under restoration so this section was closed. You had to mount to the first floor via the main tower in a staircase that was used by her guards. The restoration of the castle after it had been purchased by the region of Aosta had managed to recover parts, but far from all of the original furniture. There is one of the rooms on the 1st floor where there are photographs documenting how it looked like in daily life at the time the queen was here as well as of her husband Umberto I. The view from the glassed veranda over parts of Monte-Rosa is exquisite.
Sebastian R — Google review
In the middle of the mountains, with breathtaking landscapes: the fairytale castle of the queen. The one-hour guided tour tells how the queen decided to build the castle in that small village, the five years it took to complete the work - from 1899 to 1904, how the king never set foot in the castle and the modernization with heating and electricity. From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit to the Castle it takes about an hour by car. Dogs allowed in a carrier. We recommend purchasing one of the many Valle d'Aosta Cards to visit all the sites and castles.
Jefferson A — Google review
We decided to do the tour. The guide had explained everything about the Castle and the Savoia's family. He was very friendly.
Claudia F — Google review
Amazing place to visit in the middle of the mountains. Nothing to do with the very touristic and crowded places. The environment is so peaceful. I could learn a lot from here.
Irais T — Google review
It’s really like a fairy tale castle. Modest price to enter (10€) and you get also a tour guide for the group entrance at the same time. You can walk the grounds at your leisure and enjoy the beautiful landscape and the park. The guide will show you the rooms in the castle and explain a lot of the history. If you’re having a summer holiday in Gressoney, don’t miss to see it, it’s definitely worth it. A couple of hours well spent.
Elisa M — Google review
The castle itself is magical, seems like it has been taken out of a fantasy film. Truly beautiful, wonderful scenery in the forest and with Monte Rosa views. We entered the castle for a small fee of a few Euros, but the only way is with a guided tour, which was in Italian so we didn’t understand. It was a shame that the main staircase, supposed to be the most beautiful feature, was in maintenance work. The tour was for an hour and you could not move freely. Despite the subtle disappointment from the tour and maintenance work, the castle was amazing and worth it.
Amit O — Google review
Wonderful house, not really a castle as it’s not fortified. The views of the Monte Rosa massif are the reason the house was built here and they are magnificent. We did a guided tour in Italian only so were a little lacking in detail and had to mostly rely on the short English descriptions in the rooms. One of our party was on crutches at the time of visiting and was finding stairs difficult to negotiate. We enquired about a lift and were told there was one. There was indeed a lift but it was not working - quite annoying and no refund or reduction was offered. On balance worth a visit particularly with older kids as they get a fantastic reduction. Senior citizens on the other hand get no concession whatsoever.

Val Ferret, along with Val Veny, is a popular destination near Mont Blanc. It attracts many tourists, especially those trekking the Tour du Mont Blanc. However, the more remote areas of the valleys and mountains are equally stunning and offer a quieter experience. The Parco Nationale Gran Paradiso (PNGP) encompasses numerous valleys and ridges across over 170,000 acres and provides ample hiking opportunities.

(Translated by Google) Fantastic place but closed to the public for car access. You can only go by paid bus. Not easy since the shuttles are often packed. They should create parking spaces and make it accessible. The story of too many people is not enough to close the entrance after state money has been used to build roads and services. We should do lobstedso in Rome when the Aosta Valley people come down. Have them access with the shuttles from the annular junction. Greetings (Original) Posto fantastico ma chiuso al pubblico l accesso con macchine. Si può andare solo con bus a pagamento. Nn facile visto che le navette sono spesso stracolme. Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Located in the Aosta Valley, Verrès Castle is a 14th-century military fortress with a distinctive "monovolume" structure, appearing as a powerful block without any adornments. It has been featured in films like Creators: The Past and serves as the backdrop for the annual Historic Carnival of Verres. Once belonging to both the Challant and Savoy families, it later functioned as a prison.
A single block, an impenetrable fortress: built on the top of a rocky mountain, it features numerous defensive elements: from the classic drawbridge, through a sophisticated room with numerous loopholes and a trapdoor, to the imposing stone staircase, this castle shows all the power of the Chalant family. The 45-minute guided tour provides the necessary elements to imagine how people lived inside this place. Dogs allowed in a carrier. We recommend purchasing one of the many tourist cards of the Aosta Valley to be able to visit all the sites and castles of the region.
Jefferson A — Google review
Lovely walk up the cobblestone path to get to the building, nicer little walk around the yard outside, but once you get inside, it's another story. Every room is dead empty, no furniture, no signs, just polished concrete floors (a very odd choice) and big rooms full of air. It's a real shame as we had just come from Fenis castle which is miles and miles better than this one!
Jarrod H — Google review
Massive medieval cubic fortification which has been carefully restored without putting any furniture inside which creates beautiful negative space allowing you to admire the brutal beauty of the space. I could easily image dancing waltz on the polished concrete floor in one of the large rooms. The acoustics must be impressive. You are allowed to visit without a guide but I strongly recommend you take a guided tour to enrich your knowledge. On the northern side of the castle there is a small meadow with oak-trees where I only missed being served a glass of Selosse champagne.
Sebastian R — Google review
Wonderful building! Very carefully restored. I am amazed about the architectural skills of the builders-every fortifying detail is well done and with thought! Unfortunately in every castle in the region there is only tour guides in italian, which is a strange decision..

Renato A — Google review
We stopped here so the kids could stretch their legs. It was empty inside which was great for them to run around. Very cool inside and out but it’s not the most memorable castle you’ll see.
Tyler B — Google review
The medieval architecture of the castle is truly amazing. The only downsize is that you have to walk uphill for 10mins so it is not accessible for all. Otherwise, amazing!
Alice K — Google review
Originally a military outpost then abandouned and restored. Every stone tells a story, traps, walls, loopholes, battlements. Absolutely fascinating. The walk up to the Castle is demanding but it's an important part of the visit. It helps you understand how impregnable the Castle was. Only guided tours.

Mountain cable car
Skyway Monte Bianco is a modern cable car system that takes you up to Point Helbronner at an altitude of 11,371 feet on the Italian side of the Mont Blanc massif. It offers breathtaking panoramic views and various activities at different stations. The futuristic design and interconnection with Punta Helbronner cable car in summer make it a must-visit attraction for those who want to experience the high mountains without being experienced mountaineers.
Even without clear views, the Skyway Monte Bianco was a highlight of our trip to Valle d’Aosta. Standing at 3,600m in icy wind and thin air was intense – I felt a bit dizzy – but sharing it with my 3-year-old son was unforgettable. He was impressed and handled it well. We didn’t take our 1-year-old, which is strongly advised against at this altitude. We spent about five hours on the mountain, including a short walk and the Marmot Experience at the mid-station – great for kids. We also had lunch there: fresh, tasty regional food in a well-organized self-service buffet, with reasonable prices. Highly recommended if you're visiting the region – even with young children (with care).

One pf the most amazing experiences of my life. The rotating gondola allowed me to have a great view of everything even though it was full. The food at the restaurant midway up was incredible, I really loved the truffle and gouda fondue. The views from the top are breathtaking. The day we went, you could touch the bottom of the clouds with your hand. I absolutely recommend this experience.
Salvatorus R — Google review
A very underrated place in my opinion since it has one of the most unique cable cars in the world. Throughout the way to the top, you get to admire 360 panoramic views of the area. The place is very well organized with scheduled routes every 20 minutes. I was really impressed when the staff informed me that Mont Blanc wasn't visible, before I buy the tickets, which I find really honest and I would like to give them credit about it.
Ioannis P — Google review
Our family had an absolutely thrilling experience riding the Skyway Monte Bianco! From the moment the cable car began its ascent, the breath-taking views of the Alps left us all in awe, kids included. It’s an unforgettable adventure that truly allows you to experience the majesty of the “Giant of Europe” up close. Although the ticket price is not cheap, it is entirely worth it to reach the summit and take in the panoramic vistas of Mont Blanc, glaciers, and surrounding peaks. The ride itself is smooth, modern, and very safe, making it perfect for families. If time and weather allow, we highly recommend descending on foot from the Pavillon refuge. The hike back down gives a completely different perspective of the mountains and allows for more personal interaction with the stunning alpine scenery. It’s challenging but very rewarding—definitely a highlight of the trip.
Domenico M — Google review
What can I say?. Its an INCREDIBLE experience. Absolutely a must do if you're in the area. It's an engineering marvel. The history of its construction is truly spectacular. Amazing views, even just going to the halfway point. Punta Helbronner was in a cloud with 0 visibility, and even on July 26th the exterior was basically all ice! 2 of us with tickets to the top + 3 course lunch (and drinks) was about €260 and it was money well spent!
Jake M — Google review
Great way to spend half a day in courmayeur. So much more than we originally thought. We spent lots of time at the top as well as lots of time at the midway point. The movie theater, Botanical gardens, view points, café, gift shops, reflection theater, etc were all so much fun. A true architectural amazement. So much better than I anticipated and well worth the ticket.
Jesse V — Google review
Brilliant experience. Exquisite construction, very thoughtful. One gets the feeling of being on the top of the world. Magnificent facilities, including a very pleasant restaurant. The alpine park came as an unexpected surprise. Very well laid out. The gondola ride up to the top itself is an experience with panoramic view of your climb

A breathtaking journey to the highest peak in the Alps on the Italian-French border Starting from the Italian city Courmayeur, a charming town 1,300 meters above sea level, I began my ascent via the Skyway Monte Bianco. I purchased a round-trip ticket for €63.5 at the main station. The experience is divided into two main stages: 1. Pavillon du Mont Fréty Station (2,137 m): This stop offers stunning views, sunbathing areas, children’s play zones, and a high-altitude botanical garden. There’s also a lovely short trail for hikers and a small museum showcasing the history of the Skyway and local life in the mountains. 2. Punta Helbronner (3,467 m): The final destination was magical. The temperature dropped to around 1.8°C with a light wind, making it refreshingly crisp. From here, a 92-meter below a tunnel leads to a ski station and an open-air restaurant. I made my way to the top terrace—what a view! Standing above the clouds with 360° views of the Alps was an indescribably beautiful and humbling experience. Matterhorn is a renowned alpine peak known for its distinctive pyramid shape and challenging climbing routes to the summit. It is part of the TORX program, featuring great trails in the Aosta Valley. Visitors can take a cable car to reach the terrace and enjoy stunning views of Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Gran Paradiso, Monte Rosa, and Swiss peaks. The area also offers access to Plateau Rosa and Grotta di Ghiaccio on foot.
Nature is unbelievable. Matterhorn has around 430K of marked trails, everywhere you look is a beautiful nature. Valleys, glaciers, hills, fields, cows. Had an amazing hike and will be back hopefully sometime. Would love to Mountain bike here too, its just so beautiful and raw.

Nature is so beautiful, lots of marked trails for hikers and so clean. It is a stunning experience and such a lovely place, recommended for both hikers and those who are not. Train ride up there is around 40 minutes from Zermatt if you are planning to go all the way up, or a bit less if you are planning to hike a bit till the top station.

Phenomenal - very beautiful mountain surrounded by very beautiful landscapes and a great small cozy town, Zermatt🤩. I was there in July 2023 and it was amazing. We had lunch at the restaurant in Schwarzee which was also with a very good view of Matterhorn and the surroundings. I can truly recommend going here, for sure!

This is an awesome mountain. Really steep on the cable car (what do you expect people who have put too steep) and nice and cool from the warm temperatures below (as you'd expect being 4000m above sea level).

Beautiful mountain scenery and cute sheeps. On Matterhorn, the sheep season was already over in October. But we were lucky to find sheeps on the hills west of Zermatt :)

Probably the icon you could think about Switzerland! Spent 3 days in Zermatt, found it not too difficult to have a look towards the peak as the distance and altitude is not that far away. Rifflesee (Gornergrat area) gives the best view with a mirroring lake surface. The 5 lakes hike in Sunnegga is also spectacular. Both hikes are easy and almost all downhill if you hop off the cable cars from higher stations.

In my experience it was way better than Jungfrau. My family loved it. You can take the tram to the second to last stop and start walking down along the track for a beautiful view of the lake, the top of the mountain, the valley.

Mont Blanc, a 4,807m snowy mountain, offers various climbing routes and refuges along with a cable car. In the heart of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, there's a cozy apartment with a balcony providing stunning views of Mont Blanc and Aiguille du Midi. It is conveniently located in the city center near popular attractions like Skyway Monte Bianco and Montenvers-Mer de Glace train station.
The ice cave is definitely worth a visit, The views are stunning, and the food is quite good and reasonably priced. If you plan to visit the ice cave, be sure to wear a jacket, as you may get wet.

The highest peak in Western Europe, a sprawling white dome of snow and rock straddling the French-Italian border. The popular Goûter Route is a classic but hazardous high-altitude climb, traversing crevassed glaciers and exposed rock ridges, all within sight of bustling Chamonix.

Aosta Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, is a renowned 11th-century religious building located in the ancient Roman area of Augusta Praetoria. It features impressive frescoes, a crypt, and a neoclassical facade from the 1800s.
11th century cathedral built over 4th century Roman era ruins. The cathedral is enormous and despite being austere and sombre in style does have a side chapel with beautiful stained glass, large paintings of the Stations of the Cross, and beautiful murals (frescoes). Also worth noting the marble altar and wooden choir. On one side a work of art in metalwork - the reliquary containing remains of San Grato. A variety of architectural styles. There is also a museum and crypt which we did not visit and two bell towers undergoing maintenance at the moment. Entry is free and well worth a visit.

The Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral is in the very center of cute Aosta. It's very large and took almost 4 centuries to be built, from 11 cent onwards. However, the interiors were pretty underwhelming and disappointing - something you don't expect in Italian Churches. Free to enter
Dejan B — Google review
Actually, we wanted to go see Criptoportico forense, but we entered the cathedral instead, and so we discovered a series of hidden treasures: the little museum at the back (with beautiful carved wooden panels), the early Christian church located beneath the floor, the Ottonian frescoes from the 11th century that are now above the ceiling, and a cloister with unusual round/hexagonal columns. All of this was accompanied by the narration of the very kind, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide of the Cathedral museum (Matteo Del Col). Highly recommended, especially the frescoes! It seems that few people are aware of their existence. It's just a few euros for a 1h+ excursion.

I have a chance to have a mass (Eucharist) here. Thanks GOD. They are renovating some back building. The building itself quite maintained. They have a museum inside the church but it’s closed in the morning. There are few parking lots not so far from the church. Nice to walk around the church.

The Roman Theatre in Aosta is a remarkable ancient monument that reflects the grandeur of the Roman Empire. Situated near the Porta Praetoria, it once occupied a vast area and featured majestic buildings. Today, visitors can admire its dramatic 22-meter-tall facade, cavea, stage, and lateral porticos. Nearby stands the Amphitheatre, which was built under Claudius and could accommodate up to 15,000 people.
Beautiful historical place, an open-air museum that is rarely visited.

Roman theatre was a vibrant hub of cultural expression, showcasing a variety of performances that captivated audiences. The architecture of these theatres was impressive, often featuring semi-circular seating arrangements that enhanced acoustics and visibility. Actors donned elaborate masks and costumes, allowing them to portray a range of characters and emotions with dramatic flair. Additionally, the plays often drew on themes from mythology and history, reflecting the values and beliefs of Roman society.
Diyar W — Google review
Even though it is currently closed for restoration work and expected to reopen in May 2025, you can still appreciate the most striking feature of the theater - its southern facade, which stands at a height of 22 meters. The facade is punctuated by a series of arches and windows, and its imposing presence dominates the surrounding cityscape. The theater's cavea, the semicircular seating area for the audience, is also partially visible. Though much of the structure is in ruins, it still offers a glimpse into the grandeur of Roman entertainment.

Located in the Aosta Valley of northern Italy, Castello di Fénis is a well-preserved medieval castle that was built for the Challant family. The castle boasts impressive watchtowers, battlemented walls, and an internal courtyard, making it a picturesque and popular tourist destination. Visitors can explore various areas within the castle, including the armory, soldiers' refectory, kitchens, as well as noble and ceremonial rooms.
Fantastic castle. Super well preserved and displayed, even without an English option on the tour, there are signs covering a lot of the content and even then, the castle speaks for itself for a majority of it. This is a must stop if you are in the Aosta Valley! Very details, appealing and sets itself of from its backdrop. Gotta go up the path past it for a little bit so you can get the castle with the valley and then the mountains on the other side behind that. Spectacular contrast to.make the castle stand out and accentuate the valley it resides in. Lots of detail inside and out. Well worth the tour, although the exterior is certainly admirable on its own. This seems to be one of the most picturesque castles in the valley ( at least from the exterior)! Don't miss it.

Very well restored castle in western Italy. Visit is by your only which seems to leave every half hour. Out guide did not speak English but tried nevertheless very hard to accommodate us, which was not an issue because there are good explanation signs at each stop. A very interesting historical site dating back to the 1200's.

Well preserved castle in a beautiful area in north italy (Aosta). Visiting is by guided tour only. The tour is in Italian, and you can rent audio translation aids. The tour takes about 40-45 minutes and walks through most main chambers of the castle. The art is well preserved. Recommended stop on your way to the Italian Alps.
Adrian G — Google review
A classic pentagonal fortress, with towers and walls, long abandoned and used by the locals as a warehouse until its restoration, commissioned by an architect on behalf of the State. The large fireplace in the center of the castle is beautifully designed taking into account the cold and the need to keep the interior warm. The visit lasts about an hour, guided only, with numerous insights into the history of the castle and small peculiarities of the past, such as the almost sitting position during the night's rest so as not to be mistaken for a deceased person or the small faces engraved on the towers to keep evil spirits away. Dogs allowed in a carrier. It is recommended to purchase one of the many tourist cards of the Aosta Valley to be able to visit all the sites and castles of the region.
Jefferson A — Google review
Stunning from the outside. Pretty basic and repetitive on the inside. Rooms are not decorated, but display a loooot of wooden chests. Only visitable with Italian guide, every half hour. English audiotour available, which provides similar info as the panels in the rooms. You need to give them your id to get a audiotour.
Annemarie D — Google review
Elegant castle from the 12th century and now owned and administered by the province of Aosta. It has been completely restored from being close to a ruin, including the many indoor and outside paintings depicting religious and noble figures. You cannot visit the castle on your own and have to wait till a guide becomes available which precludes too many people inside the premises at one time. There is a lot to be learnt about how nobles lived and traveled during past centuries including why three legged chairs were used to avoid tipping over on the uneven floor surfaces. It made me remember growing up on the tree legged chair "the ant" designed by the famous Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in the 1950-s. So nothing is really new under the sun...
Sebastian R — Google review

Service was very hit and miss. We had to wait a long time and most (but not all!) waiters were not very friendly. We had pizza and salad. Pizza was OK but not very good (and very oily). The salad not very well described on the menu (in both English and Italian) and composed of a couple of leaves, some nuts and a bread bun with a piece of roasted cheese. Nice dehors / terrace seating. Catering tourists.

We were seeking Valdostan cuisine on a quiet Sunday evening. After being turned away from the better known restaurants, we decided to give this simple hostaria a try. It was a perfect choice for us. The cabbage soup was rich and flavorful, the creamy polenta came out steaming hot covered with delicious melted cheese, and the fonduta was exactly what we had hoped for. If you like a simple place filled with local diners then you’ll enjoy it here.

The Criptoportico Forense is a significant historical site in the city of Augusta Praetoria Salassorum, featuring impressive monuments such as the Augustus Arch, Porta Praetoria gate, Roman Theatre, and Forum. The criptoportico itself was once the center of religious, political, and social life. This underground passageway was built by the Romans to level the ground in that part of town and create a connection between different areas.
Interesting to see this and it was a welcome break from the heat outside. We sat and listened to the film. It was interesting to hear their take on what the area would've looked like. The site now is very well looked after. The day we went, there were only a couple of other visitors. The ticket entry also includes entry to several other sites, so well worth the €5

Its a national park that has villages around it, so lots of places to stay. We stayed in a very rustic village called Ozein in the northern part, and Locana in the south. The trails are very challenging, and mostly not circular. We are a retired couple, so we always did half a trail and enjoyed ourselves. The only place with official information and staff to help you is near the town of Cognes next to an Alpine botanical garden, don't miss it. It was sad to see many abandoned hamlets due to depopulation. Look for the Chamois and martens they are reall cute. Driving on the narrow roads id challenging, so be careful.

Castello Sarriod de La Tour is a medieval stone castle in Aosta Valley, featuring a chapel with frescoes and wooden ceilings adorned with grotesque heads. The property, owned by the Sarriod de La Tour family, consists of various buildings from different periods enclosed by a wall. The main element is the donjon, a fortified tower serving as a refuge during invasions. The castle offers stunning views and impressive wooden sculptures inside.
Enjoyed wandering around the natural history exhibits. Got our tickets and had a ten minute wait for entry as entry is supervised. One hour is allowed for the visit so we took advantage of the wait and admired the views. There is a small car park approx 50 metres away or a much larger one approx 400 metres away.

This castle was owned by the same family for over 800 years till the early 19 hundreds, thereafter by a senator from Genoa and finally, now by the Aosta region like most of the restored castles in the Aosta valley. You can only visit it with a guide which will enrich you knowledge and make you visit infinitely more interesting than making the visit on your own. At this time, end of May 2025, there is a temporary exhibition featuring works by the local sculptor François Cerise cutting his wood figurines from large blocks of materials. I found the most interesting part of the castle being the red pine ceiling with its hundreds of of carved figurines. I should have brought theatre binoculars to admire them. That will be for next time...

We wound up going here during a free day on Courmayeur after realizing Forte di Bard was too far for a day trip. Museum was fine but not much else in the area, you also have to pay for the guided tour which is conducted in Italian, our translation app crapped out (Italian is spoken rather quickly!) so we mostly stood around while the Italian guests slowly moved through a narrated tour of all the nuances. Staff were very friendly and might be better if you’ve got a downloaded speech translation app handy. Grotesques and frescos were cool, but just a bit sparse compared to some other places.

The Regional Archaeological Museum in Aosta offers a captivating journey through time, showcasing artifacts and testimonies from prehistoric eras to the Middle Ages. The museum's exhibits include unique Roman works of art like the famous bust of Juppiter and architectural fragments found during excavations. Visitors can explore the ryptoporticus, a well-preserved half-buried gallery with powerful pillars in travertine stone. The building itself is constructed over ancient ruins, providing a fascinating glimpse into history.
Super cool and interesting museum with tons of artifacts, plus you can walk through the ruins at the lower level. Most signs were in Italian and French and some English, but if you speak another language you could just use the Google Translate app that uses your camera to translate text in real time.

A good collection of local historic artefacts. Presentation is looking good. That part would have earned 4 to 5 points. But .... unless you are fluent in Italin, you will have to search for the few info tables in english. Dear local tourist board, please improve on the information in other languages!

Giardino botanico alpino Paradisia is a stunning botanical garden situated at an altitude of 1700 meters in the heart of Gran Paradiso Park. It offers individual and guided tours, with an entrance fee of 3 euros for adults and 1.50 euros for children. The garden provides valuable insights into the region's flora and fauna, aiding visitors in identifying flowers encountered during valley walks.
Very informative garden to learn more about the flora and fauna of this region. It helped us to identity flowers which we saw on our previous walks in the valley. Unfortunately it was quite windy therefor there were not so many butterflies. An other reason for that, we were informed, the best time for butterflies in the botanical garden is July. Different regions of the nature reserve Grand Paradiso have different prime times for flowers and butterflies. There is also a very informative book (in different languages!) on the garden : "Paradisia giardinobatanicoalpino" which can be obtained at the entrance as well as a general brochure.

Great place, great ski resort. We didn’t have great weather, it was early March but conditions spectacular. Pistes red mostly and black - but their red is stronger blue for other resorts standards. Their black are faboulus - they are demanding but not extremely steep. You ski on versatile terrain. In different valley, among trees and without trees. We skied 2 days and didn’t do everything although been in Champoluc, Staffal and Alagna parts of the resort. Prices are reallybreasonable - I bought 3d skipass 2 weeks before arrival and paid 128€ for 3 days, bombardino on slopes 4.5€, dishes for 12-14€ so well cheaper then in Dolomites. It’s old style resort without many people but good quality of everything. Love it

As the primary gateway to Augusta Praetoria, it remains remarkably well-preserved, showcasing its historical significance and architectural grandeur.

Issogne Castle is a beautifully restored Renaissance manor located in the Aosta Valley. It boasts a richly decorated interior with Court Gothic wall paintings and remarkable frescoes depicting scenes from everyday life over 500 years ago. The castle offers guided tours, allowing visitors to gain insight into medieval court life. Surrounded by a garden featuring a unique tree-shaped fountain, Issogne Castle provides an elegant testimony to the region's medieval heritage and Renaissance style.
The Castle is not the classic medieval fortress but a residence from the 1500s, which can be visited, with beautiful frescoes and rooms, in my opinion the interiors of the castle are the best in the whole of the Aosta Valley.

Extraordinary castle, presently early June of 2025 under renovation. I strongly recommend you prepare your visit by reading about its history. Your are obliged to take a guided tour which will enrich your experience. Our group had a very sympathetic guide who easily explained in French or English if you couldn't follow his jokes in Italian.

The outside may not be the most impressive, but the interiors are magnificent. With beautiful fresco's and medieval graffiti throughout the entire castle. We were the only non-italians in our group, but the lovely guide made a lot of effort to also do some English explanation for us.

From the street it seems anything but a castle and you could have the will to come back because it would seem worth chump change from parking lot. Don't go away! Once entered you can see one of the best preserved castle of Valley. And it's huge with a lot of frescoed rooms. 5€ for a guided visit it's the worth of it (free for children with less than 6 years). Very competent guide in Italian language.

Beautiful castle in a wonderful area with scenic views. We were recommended a stop here by a local guide and we were so glad we didn’t skip it. The tour is in Italian but you are given written information and there is one video that can be viewed in English if you ask the tour guide. The rooms and restorations are marvellous, especially the frescos and the preserved colouration. It was also fun to try and decipher all the middle age graffiti on the walls. Highly recommended.

Parc Animalier d'Introd is a 3-hectare animal park nestled in the alpine region, showcasing a variety of alpine flora and fauna, including ibex, owls, and chamois. The park offers an authentic wildlife experience with animals living in their natural environment without any forced interactions or shows. Visitors can observe the animals up close as they go about their daily activities.
We keep coming here every summer. A nice park where you combine watching animals with some light hiking up the hill. They add animals from time to time- for example two wolfs joined the party last year. Not overcrowded and with a parking nearby.

I went to see the marmots and it was their lunch time at 11 o'clock, I fell in love with them! The environment was very clean and interesting, I recommend you to visit it up close.
Behrad J — Google review
We visited Parc Animalier with our family (our curious 12-year-old and our lively little 6-year-old) and it turned out to be a fantastic day! The park offers the chance to see some of the most iconic animals of the Aosta Valley up close. While they are, of course, in enclosures, it is immediately clear that they are well cared for, and the whole environment feels natural and respectful. Our children absolutely loved the experience, discovering animals they had only read about before, and we ended up spending almost three peaceful hours wandering through the park. The atmosphere is calm, family-friendly, and perfect for a relaxing outing in nature. A truly enjoyable visit... both educational and fun for kids and adults alike. Definitely recommended if you are exploring the region with your family!
Domenico M — Google review
Amazing lookout for animals in a very quiet and well arranged stroll in the hilly and woody areas! 100% recommended for children of all âge, and adults too. Parking is a short walk however, and the park is definitely not accessible for trolleys of any kind.
Pierre F — Google review
The park extends on a uneven surface, the pathways go up a gentle hill but they are sometimes small and irregulars, not very stroller friendly and this is an important issue if you want your kids (and yourself) to enjoy the visit. That said, the experience is great: many mountain wild animals kept in their natural environment and left at their own devices, you won't see guards trying to catch the animals' attention or putting on a show for you so everything is very realistic. Depending in the time of the day the animals will be more or less active, but in general a noiseless environment is what will grant you the best experience so do keep your children quiet, this will teach them to respect nature and have patience. You may eat your own take-away lunch or sandwiches, there are two picnic spots fully functioning (no heating thou) and many discreet toilets along the way. The park is well shaded by high trees, the weather is family friendly. On the practical side: there are two official parking lots, not very spacious, be prepared to go there early in the day or to go round a bit. At the entrance you'll find a shop, full of plushies and other park gadgets, they are a bit pricey but cute nonetheless.
Anna F — Google review
This Animal Park was really good!! The staff were friendly and spoke English. It took us 2h to check the animals and we were lucky enough to see animals eating close to the fences. In overall the animals were well visible and this was a better experience than in many zoo experience where you are lucky to see the animals doing something rather than just sleep. One of us were sick and was coughing so just that you know that the European Blue Jay is not sick if you hear him coughing too (voice mimicking)😉

It was my first time ever going to a casino. I might have high expectation for it but apparently 95% are full of slot machine which is all digital, not really experiencing much of other things like a real table playing. The staffs were nice and polite.
Kornkanok S — Google review
The slot machine management is not good. A week ago, I lost 2000 euros on a slot machine. I put the sto giocando brand on the slot machine. I went to the hotel to get money and wanted to continue playing. It takes a little time to go back and forth. When I brought the money, I saw a 40 year old Chinese man with shaved head playing on the machine where I lost money. He won a lot of money. I felt that this man had been following me. At that time, I told him that I had put the sto giocando brand, but he said that he did not see the brand. I originally wanted to ask the manager to come to theory. Thinking that most people are Chinese, I would not argue with him. Later, I asked other Chinese people I knew and said that this person was called Hulizhi. He used to play slot machines in Swiss casinos. Most of them followed others and watched other players lose money. He immediately went to play. Later, someone complained that he was forbidden to enter the Swiss casino. Now he comes to this casino to play slot machines. This is the negligence of the manager.

Good little casino, but from person was not very friendly nor service oriented. Also, park up close otherwise it's quite the hike for an older person with plenty stairs. Adorable location and wonderful views around.
Tina M — Google review
The hotel building is gorgeous. The casino is the only one around and they're quite aware of it. So they're rude and unwelcoming. The rooms are ok for a high class hotel, but have very finicky domotics and the fridges and bathroom air exhausts are noisy. However their restaurants are a pathetic excuse. 16€ for 6 small pieces of grilled vegetables! The main course was so small we had to order a second serving (for 18€ each...). The staff is friendly and accommodating. The spa is nice and clean with beautiful stone floors and walls. After two nights here, I can safely say that I will not be returning. It's definitely not worth the money not being part of the Leading Hotels of the World club... Just eat outside the hotel.
Olivier B — Google review
Do not go to this casino especially to play on 25 euro table unless you want to loose all your money. I know casino must make money but if after 7 days of gambling everyday and total gambling on blackjack in 7 days is 8.500,00 euro and the highest on any one day I win is 590 euro then this is not a good casino. I have played blackjack for 4 years now in Casinos worldwide. Normally, automatic machines on blackjack is the worst, but this casino does not use the machine, so it should be better. But no. It is not. I have never seen so many 10 cards playing blackjack in my life and especially on the 25 euro blackjack table. So, my advice is try a different casino or only gamble no more than 200 euros for fun and be prepared to loose. Also, I put 760 euros into a slot machine near the smoking room on the ground floor continuously and was betting almost all of the time the highest bet, not one bonus. This is not normal for any casino

Sights & Landmarks
Castello Reale di Sarre is an 18th-century castle that has been transformed into a museum showcasing portraits of the Savoy family and elegant period decor. The castle's central tower is the only remaining original structure, and it was once a residence for Italian royalty, particularly used as a hunting lodge by Victor Emanuel II. Visitors can explore its grand architecture and learn about its historical significance through informative guided tours. Additionally, the castle offers stunning views of its surroundings.
The royal family's hunting lodge, according to the guide, was used for about two months of the year, but it helped the locals survive in difficult times, as they had to work hard to open about 300 kilometers of safe roads to allow the king to travel between base camps to hunt. The first floor houses royal objects and the second is a museum with ibex and chamois trophies. Interestingly, electricity and heating were installed around the house for the comfort of the family. Dogs allowed in a carrier. Large groups on weekends, book in advance. We recommend purchasing one of the many Valle d'Aosta Cards to visit all the sites and castles.

To see more than the ground floor, you take a guided tour for €8, which runs fairly often and takes about half an hour. I found the history of the kings of Italy who used it as a place to go to hunt interesting, as it was full of portraits of the Royal families. The hunting trophies forming the decoration of the main hall were quite remarkable,

Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto II are the two kings who enhanced and enjoyed this sober-looking residence the most. The Sarre Castle which can be visited today is located not far from Aosta. A Castle that tells of the boundless passion for hunting of these two Kings. The primitive existence dates back to 1200. The gallery is the hall of honor with a strong impact with skulls of hundreds of Chamois and thousands of Ibex horns, over 3,600....

Very nice botanical garden between Courmayeur Italy and Chamonix France. This is the highest altitude botanical garden in Europe and requires a chairlift from the Italian side. It features the plants that can be found in the alps and the signage explains how it shares many of the species and plant varieties with other high altitude environments around the globe. Pont-Saint-Martin, located in the small village of Pondel, Aymavilles, is an impressive Roman aqueduct-bridge that showcases ancient engineering. The town offers a cozy atmosphere and historical sites to explore. Visitors can also enjoy walking and hiking opportunities, as well as playgrounds for children. The area boasts beautiful views and a peaceful ambiance, making it a charming destination for travelers seeking a glimpse of history and natural beauty.
A magnificent structure that has truly stood the test of time! It's incredible to think that this ancient bridge, built centuries ago, has not only endured the elements but also survived two world wars. A remarkable testament to Roman engineering and history—definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful roman bridge constructed some 2100 years ago across the Lys river, just downstream of a hydro-electric power plant. On the buildings east and west of the bridge there are giant photographs showing the destruction of the city caused by the heavy bombings end of August 1944. Miraculously the bridge was not damaged showing signs of eternal resilience...
Sebastian R — Google review
As every other reviewer has said this is a remarkable and beautiful Roman bridge. The fact that it has stood here for over 2000 years (and been used continuously for most of that time) is quite astounding. If you're in the area then do yourself a favour and pull into the adjacent car park. Here you can admire the structure and fill your water bottle with fresh water gushing from the nearby spring.
Damian C — Google review
This bridge was built by the ancient Romans, at the beginning of the first century BC, during the empire of Octavian Augustus. It was crossed by the Roman legions, who went first to conquer and then to guard the valley, with respect to possible invasions. It is still perfectly intact, and even during the Second World War it was spared from the bombs (which however fell very close to it). The visit of this ancient structure is quick, yet it is fascinating, both to tread the ancient stones of the bridge, and to look from below as it rises above the stream.

The Great St Bernard Pass is absolutely wonderful to pass by car. It is a must drive for featuring old roads almost without the modern security measures on the Swiss side and stunning views over Valle d'Aosta on the Italian side

What a lovely drive from Lausanne to Aosta valley via the Great St Bernard pass. It will close on the 16th October so it was just in time as well. You need to take the pass road next to a lake which has been created because of a dam. Just make sure you don't take the tunnel road or else you will miss the pass. The one way to do this is to direct your GPS to the St Bernard Hospice. The drive is not that challenging but the views of the craggy cliffs and the St Bernard lake are just gorgeous. We drove when there was a lot of fog and that made it even more special. There is also parking available near the Hospice and the lake. Keep going on from there and you will first reach the village of Saint Rhemy and then the Aosta valley. Very enjoyable drive overall.

Chiesa Paleocristiana di San Lorenzo is an exceptional archaeological site in Aosta, offering a glimpse into early Christian history. The necropolis here provides insight into burial practices spanning over a thousand years. The well-labeled exhibitions and architectural finds make for an informative visit that typically lasts about 20 minutes. Visitors can purchase an integrated ticket for multiple sites around Aosta, making it a worthwhile experience.
A very special place, because of it's age. This ancient church was developed from 500 or so. Amazing that so many tombes were found intact. They say because of flooding by the river that deposited a layer of silt on the remains after a fire. Even more amazing: the Italians excavated the lot while another church is standing on top of it. Very impressive.
OPA B — Google review
This is one of the few sights that reaches back to the pre-christianic era and show the layers built on top of it. The architecture and the history of the place earn a definite 5 points. But... dear tourist board, here are a few suggestions: the tickets to the place have to be bought at another location and the film shown follows its own language sequence, indiscriminately of who is watching. In our case we would have had to wait about 20 minutes, before the english version would start again. Please fix for future visitors.
Ralf W — Google review

This place is very interesting. Huge amount of history covering 2000 years. Originally used to bury bishops, a video (in both Italian and English) is on show detailing the development of the site. If the video is playing in Italian go for a look around and come back to hear the English version, it's worth it.
Kathryn B — Google review
An interesting necropolis that apparently had hundreds of bodies buried (practically layered on top of one another) here - providing archeologists with more than a thousand years of uninterrupted history on burial practices. The exhibitions are well labelled, and informative but overall the site is pretty small. It takes about 15 minutes to see it all, give or take. They sell a ticket for 4 or 5 of the main sites around Aosta that includes entry to this location.

The Torre dei Signori di Porta S.Orso, also known as the Tower of Lords of Quart, has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Built on Roman foundations, it underwent multiple renovations over the years. The tower served as a residence for noble families and even housed exhibitions and archives since 1830. With its rectangular layout, it was once home to the Lords of Porta Sancti Ursi and now hosts the Tourist Office.
(Translated by Google) The Torre dei Signori de Porta Sancti Ursi (letter of Porta Sant'Orso; in French, Lords of the Saint-Ours Gate) was born in medieval times to fly from the Signori of Porta Sant'Orso on the ancient Roman wall of the Porta Praetoria prelevando This is why the lime block is used for its construction. I of Porta Sancti Ursi, nobili eminenti che contano tra le loro fila anche vescovi di Aosta e Ginevra e un beato, vi abitarono fino al 1185, wheno si trasferirono nel Castello di Quart. In seguito furono definiti Signori di Quart (in French, Lords of Quart). The original construction of the Torre dei Signori de Porta Sancti Ursi is located on the southern side of the building, which dates back to the northern era and was added to the other building. Below one of the arches of the tower if you find the banal neighborhood scene. Please note the adjustment of the cavity for the saracinesca of the Roman era on the route. The old window is exposed to a roof, but its sound is still visible and the ancient landscape is fine and can be crossed along the side of the tower. This is also the Tower of Insinuation of the Ottoman Empire, when it was published in 1830. The Tower of the Lords of Porta Sancti Ursi (Lett Porta Orso; in French, Lords of the Saint-Ours Gate) was erected in medieval times by the will of the Lords of Port Saint Orso on the ancient Roman walls of Porta Praetoria take from these the blocks of limestone useful for its construction. La Porta de Sancti Ursi, eminent nobles who included in their ranks even bishops of Aosta and Geneva and a blessed, lived until 1185, when they moved into the pintes castle. Later they were defined lords of Quart (in French, Seigneurs de Quart). The original entrance to the Tower of the Lords of the Porta Sancti Ursi was on the south facade of the building, because at that time other buildings leaned towards the north. Under one of the arches of the tower was the neighborhood's common oven. We can still note the adaptation of the cavity to the Roman chimney. The old ramparts are now covered by a roof, while the old loopholes and a transverse window on the west side of the tower are still visible. It was also called the Tower of Insinuation in the 19th century, when from 1830 it housed the archives. Located in Aosta, the Leper's Tower, also known as Tour du Lepreux, has a rich history dating back to its origins as an ancient Roman bastion. Over time, it was transformed into a feudal residence and later came under the ownership of the Mauritian Order. The tower gained its current name from the stay of leper Pietro Bernardo Guasco, which was fictionalized by Xavier de Maistre.
(Translated by Google) Among the various beauties of historical interest that enrich this splendid city in the mountains, the one that struck me the most is undoubtedly the Leper's Tower, first of all because it was the first, in chronological order, that I found myself in front of during my first walk near Aosta; secondly, I was positively impressed by this dark silhouette, so essential and sinister, which imposes itself in the space in such an austere way. This ancient construction, built on the foundations of a Roman tower by a noble family, is still there to defy the centuries, with its disturbing name that always gives shivers every time it is pronounced. It might seem strange to say, but the fact that it cannot be visited inside makes it even more interesting and mysterious, and certainly the protagonist of who knows how many fantasies on the part of the younger ones. Its evocative power is so strong and current that even some writers, including Gustaw Herling-Grudzinski (as remembered on the plaque next to the tower), have cited it in their works. After a long period of abandonment and the transfer of ownership to the Mauritian Order in 1773 (during which a leper citizen was locked up inside), the building was restored in 1890 and is an example of how the right care for a work, can preserve it so well over time.

The church, cloister, and bell tower, which originally must have been part of the city walls, were built in the ninth century. The church has three naves and preserves important frescoes and floor mosaics. The Romanesque cloister is distinguished by the column capitals, carved from marble and covered in dark varnish. They depict biblical scenes, the life of Sant'Orso, and symbolic animals.

(Translated by Google) An interesting place. However, if the entrance fee were tripled at €6 instead of €2, and if the varnish that was clumsily applied to the capitals were removed and the white marble was restored by applying a protective layer worthy of art restorers, this place would be magnificent.

(Translated by Google) The guided tour was wonderful and well worth it! You can visit places that would otherwise be inaccessible, and it explains the entire cloister in detail. I recommend it! (Original) Visita guidata bellissima, vale la pena! Si possono così visitare posti che non sarebbero accessibili e spiega nel dettaglio tutto il chiostro. Consiglio!

Parco Naturale del Mont Avic is a vast mountainous nature preserve offering picturesque views and refreshment huts along its trails. It covers an area of 5,750 hectares and is part of the TORX program, which features great trails in the Aosta Valley. The park is known for its high-altitude limestone environments, glacial formations, abandoned castles and mines, as well as various wetlands and lakes.
Beautiful nature, quiet, impressive mountains, tranquil waterfalls, and well- signed trails. We had a really wonderful afternoon in this beautiful park. Recommended to visit if you love the quiet outdoors!
Grietje M — Google review
A beautiful mountain park with some wonderful trails and great peaks to climb. There is some average rock climbing, and the via ferrata is very badly maintained (dangerous).
Jurie P — Google review
By far one of the most beautiful parks, thrilling views and fresh nature feeling. Suggested also for inexperienced climbers. The nearest checkpoint (lake De Servaz) takes up to 5 hours for newbies and 3 for trained people, but it's a nice spot where to bring family and friends. There you will find tons of stunning butterflies and a nice river long the road. Also the personal at the starting point is polite and gives you all the required information.

Great hike up to a couple of beautiful Alpine lakes with 2 nice mountain huts along the way.

History Museums
The Area megalitica di Saint-Martin-de-Corléans is an archaeological site and museum in Aosta that showcases prehistoric tombs, artifacts, and anthropomorphic steles. The museum also features medieval mosaics from the 13th century Cathedral of Aosta, depicting a unique blend of Christian cosmography and pagan symbolism.
Worth seeing. The site has recently expanded, doubling up in surface and increasing its already rich and undoubtedly precious content. For example there’s a new wing dedicated to the Roman age, a bright and modern immersive room, and new areas with the most recent findings such as human footprints in the plowed land and a funerary mound from the Iron Age. The guided tour is just under 2 hours, but would recommend allowing a bit more time for the visit as there’s much to see. The site has some live excavation and further plan to expand. The museum is approx. 20’ walk from the town centre, but is also easily reachable by bus (no. 3 and others) from the main Piazza Chanoux.

Even though I live in Turin (only 120 km from here) and am passionate about this kind of heritage, I knew nothing about this area. Following a friend's suggestion I spent a couple of hours visiting the museum and the megalithic area it contains. It was a real surprise! 6000 years of history layered in a sacred place, from ritual ploughing and alignment of poles to finely engraved steles in the shape of a man, from tombs used for a thousand years to tools and tattoos shared with Ötzi. An exciting journey from the Neolithic through the Copper, Bronze and Iron Ages to the Romans. If you are interested in such topics this place is a must. Even though the museum is full of information (interactive panels and screens) a guided tour is highly recommended. I had the chance to have Maria Pia as a guide with her deep knowledge and friendly attitude. I will be back for a more in-depth visit of a day.

Considering we have little to no Italian, we came away with a lot of knowledge and information about the archaeology of the find, how it related to different historical eras and what it coincided with historically around the world. Very visual and presented effectively. Our guide helped us understand lots and answered questions on anything we needed more clarification or information on. It's very reasonable and effective.
Majella D — Google review
Outstanding museum opened late 2023. Archaeological works since 1969. Exceptional museum design, architecturally exciting, un cluttered, spacious. clear Guide (but only in Italian) stylish displays. Allow 2 hrs plus. Descriptive panels in Italian, French, English. Book in advance. Bookshop in museum but no cafe.

My wife and I visited in April 2024 and enjoyed a wonderful tour. We enjoyed a "private tour" since it was a slow day during shoulder-season and we were the only 2 visitors at the time. Such an informative experience.

We enjoyed it (three adults). The museum is not finished, but it's definitely worth 7 euros. Very friendly, helpful staff who speak English. Interesting history and a very ambitious plan for the whole museum site.
Thomas S — Google review
Although you should definitely go there the design of the museum (display/information) could use a lot of work. In parts incoherent and in parts challenging normal eye vision (very tiny letters, poor light design). But spend enough time there and you will learn a thing or two about us as a species. About culture and continuity crossing ethnonationalist narrative

Grosjean Vins, a family winery located in the Aosta Valley, offers a wonderful experience for wine enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy an excellent lineup of first-grade wines with a top-notch tasteboard to accompany them. The knowledgeable and enthusiastic hosts provide personalized attention, making the tour and tasting truly special. The winery's unique varieties of Aosta are crafted into elegant and complex wines that beautifully represent the alpine characteristics of the region.
We lucked into a tour of this amazing three-generation family-owned, organic winery. Pleased to know they have a US distributor as we tasted some of the best wines ever sold at very reasonable prices relative to our favorite wonderful California wines. The family recently made significant investments in land and facilities to expand their reach. No doubt they will be successful in this endeavor given the quality of their product. A must see if you visit this special territory in Italy.

Great experience, great wines! My wife and I recently visited Aosta Valley for a few days and booked a tour and picnic—highly recommend!! We had a great tour with Martina, was able to taste a couple of the wines, and then headed up the hill for a wonderful picnic on the big bench with a bottle of Torrette Superieur. The picnic goodies were enjoyable, the wine was incredible, and the views are simply amazing. After the picnic, we bought a couple more bottles to take home to the states... and they made it perfectly :-) You simply cannot visit Aosta Valley without a stop at Grosjean Vins!

(Translated by Google) Like every tower/castle, this one also has its history and legends. In fact, a legend has it that, for reasons dictated by jealousy, the wife of a member of the Challant family was imprisoned there and left to die of starvation. According to another common hypothesis, due to a serious famine or on various occasions of poverty the population would have crowded in front of the tower (home of the powerful) asking for food, thus giving the tower its name. It has three names, commonly the Bramafam tower, or Bramafam castle but rarely also the castle of the Visconti di Aosta. The ruins of the current castle probably date back to the second half of the 13th century, but the presence of a tower on site is earlier. For all castle lovers, unfortunately it cannot be visited.

(Translated by Google) It consists of a large parallelepiped building, once used as a residence, and the adjacent cylindrical tower, which rose on the bastion of the "right main gate" (porta principalis dextera) of the Roman city walls. In some places, the original Roman wall is still visible at the base of the tower, while the medieval embankment is clearly visible on the southern side. The tower is topped with Guelph battlements and features several narrow arrow slits. The main building features a series of mullioned windows on the north side, whose design recalls the mullioned windows of Ussel Castle. The building has two entrances: on the western side, the main entrance opens through an arched door and was once equipped with a drawbridge, while on the eastern side, a second entrance opened.
