Nestled in the heart of Nazare, Portugal, the Miradouro do Suberco is a breathtaking viewpoint that stands 110 meters above sea level. This stunning lookout offers panoramic vistas of both Praia de Banhos Beach and Praia da Nazare Beach, making it an essential stop for anyone visiting this charming coastal town. Known for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant fishing culture, Nazare draws travelers with its delicious seafood and iconic wooden fishing boats called 'bateiras.'
What an incredible Place to be. A bit touristic, but the view from the hight is breath taking. We have been going to the highest wave area around the corner, which was incredible as well. In may the waves are small, but u can imagine 30 meter waves coming in from the ocean. We will come back in winter to see this spectacle

Amazing spot perched 110 meters above sea level, thois "Miradouro" is a treasure of Nazaré, offering breathtaking panoramas of the Atlantic Ocean and the vast beach below. This historic promontory once served as a lookout point to protect the coast from maritime invasions. Today, it embodies the cultural heart of Nazaré, attracting visitors with its stunning views and atmosphere steeped in local history.
Enjoy L — Google review
The Miradouro do Suberco, perched high above the town of Nazaré, offers a truly stunning panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and the vast sandy beach below. I visited around 7:00 PM, just before sunset, and the weather was perfect — calm, clear skies and a warm breeze. It’s a fantastic time to visit, especially for photography or simply taking in the scenery. You can easily reach it by car, and there’s usually street parking available nearby. The area around the viewpoint is lively, with small shops, souvenir stalls, a Ferris wheel, and even coin-operated telescopes for curious visitors who want a closer look at the waves or the cliffs. It’s free to access, and a must-visit spot whether you’re in Nazaré for the day or staying longer. This is one of those places where you really feel the scale and beauty of the Portuguese coast, especially knowing that just beyond the headland lies Praia do Norte, home to some of the world’s biggest surfable waves. If you’re lucky, you might even hear the sound of the waves crashing far below — a powerful reminder of nature’s force. Don’t miss it.

I visited the Miradouro do Suberco in Nazaré, Portugal's Leiria District. This stunning viewpoint, perched 110 meters above sea level in the O Sítio neighborhood, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the vast Atlantic Ocean, Nazaré Beach, and the charming town below. Easily accessible near the funicular station and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré, it's perfect for photos and soaking in the coastal scenery. It felt invigorating with the fresh sea breeze – a must-see for anyone exploring Nazaré's highlights!
Dr. J — Google review
Miradouro do Suberco is one of the most iconic viewpoints in Nazaré, and for good reason. The breathtaking panoramic view over the ocean and the town below is simply unforgettable. From this spot, you can really appreciate the scale and beauty of the cliffs, the waves, and the coastline stretching into the distance. Located very close to Baloiço da Ladeira, it’s easy to include both stops in the same outing. We stayed for a while just watching the seagulls glide effortlessly over the sea, enjoying the refreshing breeze and the peaceful sounds of nature. It’s a truly enjoyable and relaxing place to be, when it’s quiet. Unfortunately, the peacefulness doesn’t last long. As one of the most visited spots in Nazaré, it quickly filled with large groups of tourists, making it harder to enjoy the moment. Because of the crowd, we didn’t stay as long as we would have liked.

One of the most beautiful viewpoints in Nazare! If you are planning to go to the famous lighthouse, you can start your journey from there. The view if fantastic and definitely worth it!!

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Sao Miguel Arcanjo Fort, constructed in 1577, stands as a symbol of resilience in Nazare, having withstood French invasions and serving to protect the village from North African pirates. Perched on a rocky cliff, it offers panoramic views of Salgado Beach and North Beach. The fort also houses a small exhibition featuring surfboards and equipment used by adventurers who have braved the famous waves resulting from the Nazare canyon.
Beautiful. A must see if in Portugal. The people here are so friendly and welcoming to tourists. Either if your going in to look at the different surfers’ exhibits, the wave formation room, artist gallery, or the view from up top, I’d say you get your bang for your buck (2 euro / person). Watch your hats and sunglasses up top, it gets quite windy!
Nathan W — Google review
A small but impressive fort with breathtaking views over the ocean and the famous giant waves of Nazaré. Inside there is an interesting exhibition about the history of the fort and big-wave surfing. A must-see when in Nazaré.
Lilia S — Google review
Our visit was off season so we missed seeing surfers tackle the immense waves. The video is riveting. Definitely worth the walk down the hill and the 2 Euro entrance fee. Transport up and down the hill is offered for a nominal charge. Phenomenal view.
דרל S — Google review
Amazing belvedere from this fortress built in 1577 but has undergone remodeling and expansion on several occasions since then. The fort is a popular tourist site, particularly because of its proximity to a surfing area famous for the height of its waves. It now functions as both a lighthouse and a museum, which is devoted to surfing with the Sebastian Steudtner's world record board and other great surfers !
Enjoy L — Google review
Extremely interesting, fort itself told of its history, exhibitions very good, and waves, although only about 5-10m on the day were extremely exhilerating. Well worth €2 entry fee. Only draw back is the very steep walk back to the village, its no wonder so many people visit on a daily basis
Steve C — Google review
It was such a mesmerizing place! We went there in June, yet the view was quite extraordinary, it felt almost dreamy. To see the view, you can either enter the lighthouse for 1 or 2 euros, or you can see it from outside for free.
Ekin — Google review
Amazing views from this picturesque Landmark. 2 euro per person to get in, a small surf museum and some great photos and videos with the giant waves. Definitely recommend 👍🏻

Church
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazareth, also known as Nossa Senhora, is a captivating hilltop church in Nazare that offers a break from the town's coastal attractions. Built in the 14th century with Baroque architectural style, this grand church houses a legendary Virgin Mary statue and is steeped in ancient legend. As Nazare evolves into a year-round destination for surfers and tourists, the town's rich fishing tradition and religious heritage are proudly showcased.
Beautiful church. Candles are available to light for family and friends. Perfect for quiet reflection.
Jeanne R — Google review
I visited this area recently when making a day trip to Nazare. This is a beautiful church on the top of the hill within the plaza. Perfect place to visit on the way to the fort. Lots of places to eat and buy souvenirs nearby. Especially love the tile. There is a small museum (free!!) within one of the wings.
Blaire C — Google review
A few dozen kilometers from Fatima, in the town of Nazaré, between the rocky Cabo Carvoeiro and Cabo, on a cliff over 100 meters high, offering a magnificent view of the Atlantic, stands a tiny chapel containing a small, ancient statue of Our Lady. It is called the Nazarene Chapel, because tradition has it that it was brought centuries ago from Nazareth. It appeared in Nazaré as a token of gratitude for a legendary miracle.
Tobiasz R — Google review
The Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Nazaré is a stunning church, rich in history and devotion. Inside, you’ll find the beautiful statue of the Black Madonna, a symbol deeply cherished by locals. The church is also adorned with exquisite decorative tiles that add to its charm. I highly recommend a visit — it’s a truly special place in Nazaré.
Murillo P — Google review
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré is a place of calm and history. Near the exit, there is a replica statue displayed allowing to appreciate its details up close, wooden figure of Virgin Mary with its muted colors, seated and holding the infant Jesus. Picture below. The simplicity of the church creates a peaceful atmosphere. Also the views over the town and coastline are amazing. A truly memorable place, worth visiting even on a day trip.
A A — Google review
Definitely a sight to visit! Beautiful tile decorations inside, wooden statues and lots of small details. If you pay 1 euro, you will be able to go behind the altar and see more blue tiles and have a great view of the church! I was told that years ago sailors came to this church to receive a blessing for their long journeys. This marvelous church is very interesting to visit!
Anya N — Google review
Gorgeous sanctuary which interior has a single nave and a gilded, carved wooden high altar with spiral columns, from which, in the center, the venerated statue of Our Lady of Nazaré stands enthroned. The walls at the ends of the transept are covered with magnificent early 18th-century blue and white faience tiles by the Dutch master W. Van Kloet, depicting scenes from the Old Testament. In the sacristy, several 17th-century paintings recount the legend associated with Our Lady of Nazaré. In 1377, King Ferdinand commissioned the construction of the original church to house the sacred image and accommodate the large number of pilgrims visiting Our Lady of Nazaré, making it the oldest and most important Portuguese Marian shrine until the 20th century. Hardly altered and enlarged during subsequent reigns, the current building, with its Baroque profile, reveals the significant transformations that took place at the end of the 17th century.
Enjoy L — Google review
Is a significant pilgrimage site and a historical Marian shrine. It's a place of devotion to the Virgin Mary, specifically Our Lady of Nazareth, a Black Madonna statue. The sanctuary is linked to a miracle involving a local nobleman, D. Fuas Roupinho, who was saved from a cliff thanks to the Virgin's intervention, according to legend.

Nestled near the charming town of Nazaré, North Beach, or Praia do Norte, is a hidden gem that has gained fame for its colossal surfable waves. Once an undiscovered spot in the big-wave surfing community, it shot to prominence thanks to Garrett McNamara's record-breaking ride in 2011. Today, this beach attracts surfers from all walks of life eager to challenge its impressive swells.
Definitely a beautiful beach to chill out at or people watch. There are some amazing waves here but weak season for surfing this place is usually packed. There is a tiny free parking lot, it’s recommended that you have high clearance vehicle and 4x4 is a huge plus. Overall this is a great place to come relax and enjoy the beauty of the area.
Coach T — Google review
The famous "Praia do Norte" where the spectacle is simply magnificent ! Indeed, for the past ten years or so, this place has been a meeting point and a challenge for the world's best surfers who tackle waves that can reach up to 30 meters. They are known as big wave surfers. For an amateur, positioned near the lighthouse perched on the cliff overlooking the ocean, the spectacle of the waves and the feel of the salt water on their face unfolds from above, because the danger is very real. These giant waves are born from the convergence of the high swell of the Atlantic and the 500-meter-deep underwater canyon of Nazaré, which plunges right at the foot of the cliff. This channels the waves and amplifies them to the point of creating these "monsters of the Atlantic." For surfers, rigorous preparation is essential. But how do you even reach the starting point of the wave? Thanks to tow-in surfing: the surfer is transported on a jet ski attached behind them with their board, and then followed by the jet ski, which ensures their safety in case of a fall. On November 1, 2011, Hawaiian Garrett McNamara set the world record for the highest wave surfed at Praia do Norte. That day, he jumped from a helicopter, was towed, and surfed a wave estimated at 23.77 meters, the equivalent of about six stories. His record is recognized by the Guinness Book of Records and by the World Surf League (WSL), which awards prizes every April for the best surfing performances of the year. On December 11, 2014, Frenchman Benjamin Sanchis attempted to ride a wave estimated at around 30 meters. Unfortunately, he fell mid-ride and had the fright of his life. This earned him the WSL's Wipeout of the Year award for 2015! Then, on November 8, 2017, Brazilian Rodrigo Koxa officially broke Garrett McNamara's record by surfing a 24.38-meter wave at Nazaré. Finally, on October 29, 2020, German Sebastian Steudtner set the world record for the biggest wave ever surfed by riding an 86-foot (26.2-meter) break, thus erasing Rodrigo Koxa's record. On the women's side, after numerous appeals and a petition signed by nearly 20,000 people, Brazilian Maia Gabeira succeeded in having the record for the biggest wave surfed by a woman officially recognized. She earned this title in 2018 by surfing a 20.72-meter wave, also at Praia do Norte. She surpassed this record in 2020 by surfing a 22.4-meter wave !

Big wave only in winter but still a beautiful and stunning beach
Sheng C — Google review
Well, this time it was a huge disappointment to see such a crowded, dirty place, with little information, and above all, poor security and protection in some of the ocean-viewing areas. I see it as very risky for children, and difficult for people with reduced mobility! It's not exactly a beautiful place, and the waves aren't the biggest in October either. Parking is difficult; on weekends, it's hell! Thanks, but no! This place is very overbooked; the reality is different! 😕

I was expecting some spectacular surfing on 30 meter waves but nothing was going on. Just a nice beach with some visitors. When I asked a guard where the surfers were he said "there are no waves". This tiny Chapel of the miracle’s is s very unique church is more like a little monument. It has an altar with a cross and flowers. The church inside all the walls had tiles with a beautiful design. On the right side there are some stairs where it takes you to the Virgin, across theres a window facing the beach. Beautiful view.

Ermida da Memória is surrounded by fascinating legends. According to tradition, it was founded on the spot where the image of the Black Virgin (Virgem Negra) was discovered by fishermen, who saw it as a divine sign. This small chapel, perched above the sea, carries a deep sense of mystery and devotion. Though modest in size, it’s filled with history and symbolism — a truly special place that’s well worth a visit.

Stunning chapel located right by the ocean. Not crowded during the winter, so I would recommend to visit during that time.

Scenic spot
The Farol da Nazaré, also known as the Nazare Lighthouse, stands proudly on the edge of a cliff, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the renowned crashing waves below. Adjacent to the impressive Forte de Sao Miguel Arcanjo, this iconic landmark provides visitors with an opportunity to explore a museum showcasing surfboards and jet skis donated by daring surfers who have taken on Nazare's mighty waves.
Great views and interesting museum. It is small and can be completed in 30 minutes. There is a steep hill that you must walk up and down to get to the lighthouse. The town around is very cute and has plenty of shops and restaurants.

Such a stunning and amazing viewpoint. The ocean view was so beautiful. It will take 10〜15 minutes to walk from the gate to the end point. It's a nice walk. The light has an exhibition of legendary surfboards with its surfers. A very good exhibition. You should check it out.
Momo W — Google review
The Farol of Nazaré stands above the ocean with one of the most breathtaking views in Portugal. It’s reached by walking down and the view is incredible all along the way as the sea stretches on both sides. The entrance to the faro costs 2 euros to go inside and up, where the panorama over Praia do Norte and the Atlantic is just spectacular. Inside, there’s a small exhibition of surfboards. From the top, the power of the ocean feels almost unreal. It’s a place that stays with you. Highly recommended.

Nice photography exposition inside, but the lighthouse per se is not that gem! Very tiny and super crowded. Maybe, being a little place and considering you pay to go in, it would be nicer to have the entrance managed so you won't be stuck among other people

Nice view of Praia da Vila Nazaré and Praia do Norte. I went on a very nice day without waves but I think it was worth seeing. The view is beautiful and the wall to get there is really nice too!
Fannie — Google review
Farol da Nazaré might be the only “museum” I’ve ever visited where half the exhibition is inside and the other half is trying to knock the building off the cliff. Perched on top of the old São Miguel Arcanjo fort, the little lighthouse-turned-surf-museum is the place to watch Nazaré do her party trick. Big-wave season is usually a winter thing, but when we visited in September 2025, Nazaré clearly hadn’t read the rulebook. On our last day the swell arrived, and suddenly all the heroic photos on the museum walls made sense. One minute we were nodding wisely at big-wave stats and surfboards snapped in half; the next we were outside, hanging onto the railings, saying things like “WOW” and “GOOD GRIEF” on repeat. From the viewing platform you look straight down at the Atlantic throwing a tantrum. Enormous walls of water march towards the cliff, rise up as if they’ve changed their minds about Portugal entirely, and then explode in a way that makes you question every time you’ve ever described a wave as “big” before. It’s both breathtaking and slightly unhinged. The science bit is actually pretty cool too. Nazaré’s monster waves aren’t magic (though it feels like it); they’re created by a huge underwater canyon right in front of the fort. As the swell races in over this sudden change in depth, the energy has nowhere to go but UP. The result: cartoonishly oversized waves, very brave surfers, and a lighthouse full of people gasping, cheering, and occasionally clutching the wall for comfort. In short: the surf museum is small, the fort is old, the lighthouse is cute… and the waves absolutely steal the show. If you’re anywhere near Nazaré when the swell’s up, get yourself up to that fort. Just don’t blame me if you suddenly feel the urge to buy a surfboard and immediately sign a waiver.

Very amazing place especially when big 🌊🌊🌊🌊. Would like to return and see even bigger waves. In the photos more than 5meters and 9000kJ power 🌊 Ticket to the lighthouse 2eur/per

We went on Monday, so it was only a few visitors there. Very picturesque location, it felt surreal. Only 2 euros to enter, which is quite reasonable. In the first floor, there’s also a part that you can see the surfing boards of the surfers who came here.

Public beach
Praia da Nazaré is a bustling beach known for its large waves, making it popular among surfers. It's the heart and soul of the town, featuring expansive golden sands and azure waters perfect for sunbathing and swimming. The lively promenade, traditional fishing boats, and local seafood restaurants add to the vibrant local culture. While swimming is allowed at this wide beach, caution is advised due to the incessant Atlantic swell.
I was in Nazaré, Portugal, and the vibe is top-notch. The beach is beautiful, the atmosphere is relaxed but lively, and the people are super chill. If you’re into walking along the boardwalk, watching the sunset, or just laying on the sand listening to the waves, this place delivers—no doubt. there are tons of restaurants, from seafood spots to burger joints, ice creams, and the price range is pretty solid: with €10 to €30 per person, you can eat well, depending on how fancy you’re feeling. Perfect whether you’re going solo, with a partner, or with friends. That said, even though it’s a beach town and it gets hot during the day, nights can get surprisingly cool. So bringing a hoodie or a light jacket is a smart move. Don’t be that tourist who ends up buying an overpriced sweater from some random shop just because they didn’t see it coming.

Nice beach with wide paths for walking, biking or roller blading. Various restaurants offering excellent fresh seafood. A relaxing place to spend an afternoon.

Wow, wow, wow! Praia da Nazaré is absolutely stunning—a wide sandy beach with breathtaking ocean views. Famous for its giant waves and surf competitions, yet also perfect for a peaceful walk along the shore. The promenade is lively, with many cafés, restaurants, and small shops. Easy access and plenty of space make it ideal for families, couples, or anyone who loves the sea.

Wide sandy beach with clear waters. During my visit was calm and sunny. Bars, restaurants and shops on the other side offers added convenience. Sun-dried fish and seafood stalls add cultural heritage.

Nazaré beach has a mesmerized lighthouse on the top of its hill where we can observe the entire coast along the city. It's definitely a must when visiting Portugal. Not only for its huge and gigantic waves, but also for the whole history behind it. If you are a fan of great gastronomy, yes - Nazaré is also for you!

Excellent location in Nazaré. Not on the beach, but very close to it. The underground parking garage is a huge plus! One of the deciding factors for our stay. Our room was very comfortable and clean, with a nice view of the city and a partial view of the ocean. The balcony with two chairs and a table was much appreciated. Excellent breakfast! Lots of different types of food, from pastries and bread to fruits and deli, with some cooked items as well (scrambled eggs and bacon).

Centrally located hotel in the city centre of Nazare. Very close to the beach. Four stars were given for very cold water in the swimming pool, book the room to have this facility in Feb in Portugal. Rooms: Spacious, recently refurbished, bath and shower, but the balcony door could be replaced as all sounds were coming to the room, especially ringing at the taxis stand on the street. Pool: Small on the roof top, but with the very cold water. A little bit of disappointment. Food: Decent selection at breakfast with very tasty fruit selection, pastry, bread, and decent gluten free selection. Two different coffee machines which serves decent coffees. Location: very city centre. Car parking: located under the hotel, charge 7 euro per night of your stay, but then you don't have worry to park on the street. Please note that the parking is very tight to manoeuvre inside. You can see the scars on the pictures from whom didn't manage. We drove a SUV and was tight but manageable.

Very nice big room (we selected a suite with an extra bed for our teenage son). Hotel breakfast was excellent. Some concerns about cleanliness of the room on our arrival, but quickly addressed. Very close to the beach and all the excitement. We were able to close our windows at night and use air conditioning to block out noise. Overall an excellent stay.

Overall, happy with Hotel Praia. The room served its purpose, and was clean. Parking did cost money and the parkade was very tight with limited parking. This was somewhat disappointing. Location was good and central. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic with huge, delicious, variety. We did not check out the pool when we were there. It would be nice if parking were included to add to the value of the room rate and given that parking is somewhat limited in the parkade.

First time staying at this hotel and it was awesome. The location is central so nothing is more than a walk away. It is minutes from the beach or if you want to chill just head up to its sun terrace. The staff were great, room was spotless and cleaned with fresh sheets everyday. Really nice breakfast as well. Will stay here again.

I would not recommend staying at this hotel. I stayed here for 1 night with my husband during our honeymoon back in April. When we pulled the sheets back to finally go to sleep, there were blood stains on them. It was very late at night so there was only the overnight man at the front desk. After he came to our room, he saw for himself the issue and then at that point he finally agreed to switch our room. Due to this, we did not get a good night of sleep and this night of our honeymoon was very unenjoyable. We also felt gross as we were resting on top of the bed/had our belongings on the bed not knowing the blood stained sheets underneath the comforter. I spoke with the people at the front desk the next morning, letting them know we were incredibly disappointed and could they please do something to help us as it was a special occasion. I did not even ask for a full refund but I requested some type of partial refund given the situation with the blood stained sheets and then having to move to another room in the middle of the night. My travel agent followed up with the hotel on my behalf and they seemed not willing to work with her for some type of compensation. Eventually, the hotel staff completely stopped replying to her and nothing was ever done. This was disappointing as upon check out I was assured that they would speak to the manager to find us a solution.

One block away from the beach and from all the great restaurants. NAZARE is amazing. Beach was magnificent and ofcourse seeing the famous lighthouse made for some amazing pictures. If you ever plan trip to Nazare, don't hesitate to book this hotel. Was amazing. Muito obrigado

Baloiço da Ladeira is a must-visit spot in Nazare, offering a fun swing ride with stunning views. Located on the way to Forte de Sao, it's a beautiful place to play and admire the beauty of Nazare. The area is accessible by foot, but transportation options are recommended due to extensive walking. Despite being popular for social media photos, swinging here is not just for the 'gram – it's genuinely enjoyable.
A must on the tourist to do list when in Nazare, Portugal. The views are just incredible (and it is also fun being able to swing). I went on a Friday at 6PM and there was no crowds or wait. There are stairs leading down to the swing, but they are quite steep and slippery since the rocks are smooth, so just beware while walking down.

Must see/visit while at Nazare. Views are incredible, but if you walk up , and you can have even better views. We visited in Feb and there was a queue to use it and people were before and after us. How does summer look like i can only imagine, but it is worth walking up the stairs.

Baloiço da Ladeira is one of those hidden gems that rewards you with a truly unforgettable view, but be prepared to earn it! The path to reach the swing involves a steep and challenging set of stairs, which might be tough on the knees, especially in hot weather. Comfortable shoes and a bottle of water are definitely recommended. Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair access, which makes it inaccessible for visitors with mobility issues. The panoramic view over the ocean and the cliffs of Nazaré is breathtaking. The swing itself is charming and makes for a perfect photo opportunity, especially at sunset. It’s a quiet spot that feels tucked away from the tourist crowds, ideal for anyone looking to connect with nature and enjoy the dramatic beauty

This hotel is almost perfect. The rooms are beautiful, clean, and functional. The service was as close to 5 stars as you will find anywhere in the world. The staff is so helpful, pleasant, and nice. My wife and I spent 1 night here but we regard this as our best (and least expensive) stay during our time in Portugal. An absolute must stay for anyone looking in Nazare. My only 4 star ranking is in location solely because 5 star would have been directly on the beach. That said please don’t think the location is “bad” by any means. It is a 2 minute walk from literally all major attractions, but not RIGHT on the beach. Do not less this deter you from staying here it is as small of an inconvenience as it can possibly be. Title: Very Disappointing Stay – $1,000 in Electronics Stolen, No Accountability from Management Review: Our experience at Hotel Magic in Nazaré Portugal was extremely disappointing. During our stay, about $1,000 worth of electronics were stolen from our (another couple traveling with us) two rooms. When we reported it to the manager, David, we expected at least some concern or accountability. Instead, we were met with numerous excuses, blaming us for items stolen, not listening to our situation, and absolutely no apology or sense of responsibility for what had happened. It’s deeply unsettling to have personal belongings taken from what should be a secure hotel room, and even more frustrating when management shows no professionalism or empathy in handling the situation. While the property itself may appear nice, the lack of security and integrity from the staff completely overshadowed everything else. To have luggage and personal belongings rummaged through in our rooms where key cards were used to enter, is extremely disturbing. All our electronics were taken save two iPads (I assume because these can be tracked) and items (medical kit, cords, etc.) that were in luggage in one room were found inside the luggage of another room. I would strongly caution anyone considering this hotel to be very careful with valuables and to reconsider staying here until the management demonstrates better accountability and guest care. Hotel magic where your items magically disappear – stay away!!

Museum
Seca do Peixe is a unique attraction where visitors can witness the traditional method of fish drying, offering a glimpse into the age-old practice. It serves as an open-air museum for dried fish and is one of the largest dried fish markets in the country. The process involves cutting open various types of fish and placing them on special drying nets fixed in wooden frames, which are then displayed outside to dry naturally.
Living museum The Dried Fish Museum (Museu do Peixe Seco) is a project-of-the Municipaliy of Nazaré whose main objective is the preservation-of this ancestral tradition. This project includes the "Estindarte" (drying ground), where are concentrated the fishwives engaged in this activity, and the requalification of the Cultural Centre of Nazaré (Old Fish Auction Market). Tourism is one of the main activities in Nazaré and the "Museu do Peixe Seco"-living museum - will allow to consecrate a differentiating element of the local culture as a tourist attraction, thus offering, at the same time, better working conditions and the creation of new jobs in order to maintain this custom.

This gorgeous hermitage was erected in 1182 over a grotto where, during the period of Muslim rule, there was an image of a Black Virgin – Our Lady of Nazaré, seated and breastfeeding the Child Jesus. Following the legend, She avoided that Fuas Rupinho's horse jumped into the air ! Its construction is linked to the figure of D. Fuas Roupinho and the episode of the Legend of Nazaré. At that time, it had the structure of a simple porch, with open sides in the form of arches. In the 14th century, the original arches were walled up, and the hermitage was decorated with stone sculptures on the exterior, which have since disappeared.

Rosa Dos Ventos is a charming Portuguese seafood restaurant with quirky decor and beautiful ceramic tiles. They offer a wide variety of fresh seafood, including octopus, shrimp, and grilled fish prepared using traditional techniques. The owner takes pride in sharing the history of the place and offering the freshest fish of the day. The ambiance is cozy, making it a great spot for an authentic dining experience with friends or loved ones.
An amazing little restaurant, off the beaten track. Clearly all home made and reasonably priced. Pictured is the Red Snapper, which came with perfectly cooked new potatoes and a salad. Accompanied with a bottle of house Green wine in a very smart frozen jug. Afters was a generous homemade creme caramel, unfortunately so good we ate before I could take a photo - trust your imagination.

While visiting Nazare, found this highly rated spot. We couldn't figure out how to make reservation, so we arrived early before opening around 18:00 on Sunday. We where invited inside well before an official opening of 18:30. Restaurant is not big and tables are small. Not a huge selection of dishes, but everything is fresh and tasty. Unfortunately, no squid was available this evening, so we selected sardines, mixed salad, and clams. Bread, cheese, and olives were placed on the table without us asking. Not expensive and tasty. House green wine was served in a frozen clay pitcher. Delicious. Service was fast and friendly. For dessert we had Portuguese creme brulee and flan.

Had the absolute best fish of my life in Nazaré at this family-run spot! The owner and his whole family are involved, which makes it feel so warm and welcoming. Super friendly people and the food was just incredible. Definitely don’t miss the clams and the red snapper — both were out of this world! If you’re in Nazaré, this place is a must.

Absolutely delicious! There was a small waiting period to get in and it was well worth it. We ordered the suggested clams and salmon. More than enough food for 2 and one of the best meals we've had in Portugal. Highly recommend!

Fantastic grilled seafood! You can tell that it's extremely high quality, super well prepared and the decorations are very traditional. I loved the spot! A super traditional Portuguese seafood spot right next to the beach. Golden location! Definitely recommend this after the beach!

We went early for dinner. Fantastic food (we had the clams and the pork fillet), our young kids loved it too! Rice and potato chips were great too. Even though there was a queue forming outside to wait to go in, never felt rushed at all. the waiters and owner were friendly and patient. this all contributed to a fantastic authentic dining experience. 100% must visit for anyone going to Nazaré.

Incredible experience from the warmth and hospitality of the staff & owner to the best freshly-caught fish I've ever eaten. We felt so well taken care of and recommend this restaurant to anyone lucky enough to find themselves in Nazare. Bonus points for the tiny mugs of house port! Cash only!

We visited a small, family-run restaurant in Nazaré, Portugal, specializing in fresh fish. The place was very cozy, with a warm, homely atmosphere and traditional décor that made us feel like we were dining in their home. We tried fresh swordfish and sardines and soup of the day— everything were absolutely delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel like locals. We arrived around 2:30 PM and only waited about 10 minutes for a table. Service was quick and efficient. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic local experience.

Nazare Beach is an incredibly picturesque golden sand beach located in the town of Nazare, on the Silver Coast of Portugal. The beach is well known for its giant waves and attractive scenery, making it a popular destination for surfers and sunbathers alike. In addition to the beautiful sandy beaches, Nazare also has a long coastline with charming fishing villages and friendly locals.
Fantastic beach, the most famous in Portugal for surfers all aroudn the world cause of the biggest waves. Clean long beach with golden sand. Small village, few shops, a lot of souvenir shops and restaurants. Must see hill with great view at the Atlantic ocean.

I joined a local tour to Nazare. When I got off the coach, I was stunned by the views. Capela de Nossa Senhora da Nazare captured my interest. It was a small chapel but it looked very beautiful! Miradouro do Suberco was amazing!! It was a bit steep but up there, you could enjoy the spectacular views of the beach and the endless sea. There were some carts selling nuts and sweets and souvenir shops around. The vibe was relaxing and enjoyable! I had lunch at Nazare Beach. Along the beach, there were many restaurants. We picked Tabernassa. We sat at the terrace. The staff was upper friendly and nice. My husband ordered octopus and he said it was the best that he had ever had and I had codfish which was fresh. We sat by the window, so we could enjoy the sea breeze while having a meal there! After lunch, we strolled along the beach and had two scoops of gelato at Gelatomania. The melted fast as the weather was quite hot! I think Nazare is a remarkably amazing place for tourists, especially for those who enjoy surfing. The waves in winter in Nazare are huge. If I have a chance to visit Nazare again, I would prefer staying there for at least a night!

Beautiful beach but because of high waves the lifeguards did not let us swim…
Vid V — Google review
IMO Nazare is worth the 40 min drive from Lisbon. We ended our trip with a half day trip to Nazare to checkout the scene. The main town was much bigger and more developed than I expected but that doesn’t take away from the beach scene which is very cool.
BestWhistler — Google review
Nazaré is a fabulous place - beautiful beach, dozens of little cervejeiras, tabernas, restaurants, fabulous ice cream and deserts places. The streets down to the beach are tiny and parking is 5-10 mins walk away. There is a funicular railway now from the top of the town down to the beach which is great. The beach is really busy at one end and much quieter at the other. There is a huge beach football ‘kind of makeshift stadium’ in the centre of the beach but the beach is so huge it’s really not a problem. It’s the capital of surfing - possibly in Europe but when we were there in July the waves were very tame and for experienced surfers there are better places north of Nazaré (disclaimer- I know nothing about surfing!). So for us as a family with older children, it was a wonderful place and we will definitely be back.
Richard S — Google review
It's absolutely worthy of a solid 5-star review 👏 This is a paradise ✨️ Even with massive tourism, this town has managed to maintain a nice atmosphere with lots to do and lots to eat!! The food selection was one of the best we found while touring across Spain. The streets were clean, and the locals were friendly. Despite small roads and compact architecture, they still have figured out parking and transportation with ease. This is a must for the itinerary if you are touring the Spanish countryside. My only regret is we had to leave before I had time to jet ski on the ocean!! Was a fantasy land! A++

Nestled just a stone's throw from the stunning Nazare beach, Taberna d'Adelia is a culinary gem that seafood enthusiasts simply cannot miss. Renowned for its exceptional quality of fish and seafood, this charming eatery has earned accolades for its commitment to local development and sustainability. The menu boasts an array of delectable options, including crab, lobster, shrimp, and clams—each dish crafted with care to highlight the fresh flavors of the ocean.
Came here for lunch on a busy Saturday without reservations and they found a spot for us. We had the cataplana and it was awesome. Service, food and ambience were all the best in Nazare. Special shoutout to them for finding, keeping and holding a bag of our toddler’s toys that we left at the restaurant. It would have been devastating to our trip if they were lost (parent alone what I mean)…it’s a special touch for them to have held onto them for us to pick up the next day. We are grateful. Wonderful place!!
William B — Google review
We were on the fence about eating here but loved our cataplana dish. Service-wise everyone was kind but it did take incredibly long for our food which was just our cataplana dish (over an hour and 15minutes), we never said anything but two separate staff members came over to apologize. All the tables around us ate before us that sat significantly after us. They never did anything to remedy this. If you are pressed on time I wouldn’t come here as our whole meal was 2+ hours and we only ordered the cataplana.

We are very happy to find this cute restaurant at Nazare. The sardine fishes are delicious 😋 the clams are really tasty! We enjoyed our time and foods at Taberna D’Adelia.

Everything about Taberna d’Adelia is 5 stars. This wonderful seafood heaven had been around since 1987 and has a history of serving up some of the best that Nazare has to offer. From fresh daily catch of Ribalo to the rice seafood dishes. This place is a must on your Nazare trip. It has been rated for many years and a Michelin recommended restaurant and well worth it. It comes as no surprise that celebrities flock here. When you arrive e the reception is welcoming. Your waiter treats you as they will treat any celebrity which is really great considering some places would be snooty. We started our delightful dinner with Clams a bulhao de pato which to my surprise were full to the shell. They were cooked to perfection. The we shared a monkfish and shrimp rice again so perfect and amazing. Ingredients is the key. Everything was amazing and cooked to perfection. Again reservations are highly recommended

A big Michelin disappointment :(... We chose this place as it's the only Michelin guide recommendation in Nazaré. Unfortunately the food, its presentation, and the menu choices had no "wow" effect, the clams were actually too salty, the fish soup tasteless and boring (also cheapest from any place so far). The restaurant is packed with tourists and seems to be gliding on the Michelin recommendation effect to the max while actually losing its culinary edge. The restaurant ran out of large still water 🙈... Sadly, it was the worst food I've had in Portugal so far (just 3 past days) and I would not return. Pricing is normal, atmosphere lively and pleasant, service very friendly and quick

Food is nice, but the grilled fish I order was… not grilled but steamed or something. Pretty tasteless due to that. If you order the day catch it comes with sides of potatoes which are semi hard a boiled again pretty tasteless I would say But the octopus was nice instead I really cannot give more starts due to the arrogant waiters, both of them we had What’s so wrong in being nice? You don’t need to talk in such an arrogant manner or rush your clients as if they kinda disturb your way Clients are there to be taken care of

Food was amazing, service was great and expedient, atmosphere was very enjoyable. We did not have a reservation, but they still found a place for us without making us wait. Very friendly staff and the food didn't disappoint 👌.

This is the best place to eat in Nazaré, no question. It is worth driving for a few hours, even, if you need, to eat here (and appreciate this glorious beach, of course). The food is perfect, I definitely recommend the Caldeirada and soup. The service is supreme. Excellent, super friendly and dedicated. The atmosphere is beautiful and full of love. No loud music, decorated with children's drawings and cute letters, miniatures of houses and ships. Simply beautiful. The food is made with much love and care. Come here with family and friends, you will have a wonderful time, I am sure. Thank you, Taberna D'Adelia!

Lovely place to go with kids. Different pools sizes, multiple slides. Different prices for different times of the day. Comparing to last year I have on positive and one negative to write about , the positive it had trampolines with harness where my 5 year old could join however is €4 for around 10 minutes , the negative is this year they didn’t allow us to take the sun shade (umbrella), and wanted to charge us for the ones they have however, there lots of shade of you don’t go on the busiest days. Overall good place to go and I recommend

Not good at all. The room was old , the ceiling light broken, walls were damped . Peter was the reception guy when we checked in and he was rude , arrogante and not cool at all. The only good thing was the view. That was spectacular. Absolutely Appalling Experience – Avoid This Hotel at All Costs Hello everyone, I’ve just had what I can only describe as the worst hotel experience of my life at Hotel Marimar. Upon arrival, we were informed that there were no rooms available — despite our booking — and were directed by the receptionist to their “sister hotel,” Marimar Sul, supposedly of the same quality and only a 3-minute drive away. We followed her recommendation, which turned out to be a huge mistake. Upon arrival at Marimar Sul, we were greeted by a so-called “handsome” receptionist in a tired, outdated lobby. We asked to view the available rooms — especially those with a sea view — before committing to payment, a standard and reasonable request. Shockingly, the receptionist refused to show any room unless we paid in advance. Despite the red flags, I selected their presidential suite, which was theoretically the best they had to offer. What we saw was disgusting: the room smelled like old, sweaty socks, the furniture was worn out, stained, and filthy, and the entire space felt neglected and unhygienic. We immediately decided to leave. I asked for an immediate refund, but the receptionist claimed he couldn’t process it and told us to send an email and wait for a reply “maybe” tomorrow. I requested written confirmation of this conversation for my records — he flat-out refused. When I demanded to speak with the manager, he ignored me completely. No explanation, no apology. Just silence and disregard. Eventually, after insisting and escalating the situation, he handed me the cash refund with a smirk and the words: “Thank you and never come back.” That sentence alone sums up the attitude of this hotel toward their guests — rude, arrogant, and completely unprofessional. To the HR Manager of this establishment: if you care at all about your hotel’s reputation, I urge you to seriously reconsider the training and attitude of your staff. This experience was not only disappointing, it was disgraceful. To fellow travelers: think twice — there are far better options in the area. Don’t waste your time, money, or energy here.
Anton U — Google review
For a 4-star hotel, this place didn’t meet expectations. The location is good, and sea view rooms offer a nice view. The indoor pool is uncomfortably warm with poor ventilation, while the outdoor pool is nice but very crowded, especially with kids. The room had weak AC, no ventilation in the bathroom, and poor Wi-Fi. Overall, the experience wasn’t terrible, but it’s not up to 4-star standards.
Hamed R — Google review
Disappointing Experience with Limited Amenities My stay at this hotel was, unfortunately, a significant letdown due to limited entertainment options, overpriced dining, inconsistent service hours, and uncomfortable facilities. **Entertainment**: In 2025, it’s surprising that a hotel lacks engaging activities for both adults and children. Live music was available only during dinner service from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, which felt restrictive. The bar lacked ambiance, with just background music and no lively atmosphere. The pool table was unmonitored, leading to unpredictable wait times of 30 minutes to 2 hours. For families, there were no kids’ clubs or activities beyond a mini-golf course, which was unenjoyable in the scorching sun. A “DJ” played by the pool for the first two days but was absent thereafter, leaving the hotel feeling devoid of energy. Even for a “relaxed” vibe, some form of guest entertainment is essential. **Dining**: The breakfast buffet was a highlight, offering a variety of fresh breads, pastries, and options, though the menu was repetitive for longer stays. However, the absence of lunch service at the restaurant was inconvenient, forcing guests to rely on the bar, which operates on a limited schedule (1:00 PM to just before dinner). The dinner service was exorbitantly priced at €31 per adult and €14 per child, and the quality did not justify the cost, making it a poor value. **Pools**: The indoor pool was preferable to the outdoor one but felt like a sauna, with oppressive heat that made it difficult to breathe or stay for long. The outdoor pool was decent but heavily impacted by Nazare’s unpredictable weather, shifting from hot to windy and cloudy, which limited its usability. **Rooms**: The rooms were adequately sized, but the children’s bed was broken in the middle, which was unacceptable. The balcony would have benefited from a small table for relaxation or snacks. **Location**: While the hotel isn’t responsible for the surrounding area, the nearby vicinity felt quiet and lacked attractions. A car is essential to reach the city center, as there’s little to do otherwise. **Staff**: The staff was a bright spot—friendly, helpful, and consistently positive, which was much appreciated. **Overall**: This hotel fell short of expectations with a lackluster experience that didn’t justify the cost. I’d rate it 1.5 out of 5 and won’t be returning.

We stayed at Hotel Miramar Sul for two nights, from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning, and overall, it was a lovely experience. The hotel is beautifully located, with breathtaking views of the ocean and Nazaré’s iconic beaches. The early check-in was a pleasant surprise and gave us more time to enjoy the stay. The property is well-maintained, very clean, organized, and guest-friendly. We enjoyed a delicious continental breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday, with a generous variety of fresh options. The staff was kind and even offered us towels in case we wanted to use the pool. The only downside was the noise in the mornings. Our room was located on the main floor, and we could clearly hear people talking loudly in the hallway, which made it hard to sleep in. Next time, I would definitely request a quieter room on an upper floor. Other than that, the stay was smooth and enjoyable. I’d happily return and recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful weekend with stunning coastal views.

Lovely hostel! Great location - right between walking to the famous fort/beach and center of town. Quiet, clean, great views from the windows. Staff was friendly. Can check in/out at any time and has luggage storage. Not a very social hostel in the off season but very peaceful!

We stayed at this great hostel in Nazaré! It offers very good value for money, has spacious common areas and a fully equipped kitchen, along with several shared bathrooms that include an outdoor shower. There's also a place to store your surfboard or bike. The hostel is located on a quiet street, yet it's close to the center and the beach. Cris, the manager, is incredibly friendly and welcoming! We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back!
Louis R — Google review
It's not the worst hostel I've visited, but it's far from one of the best. No curtains. Very very expensive. No atmosphere, no social events. Almost never someone on reception. Not flexible at all. I asked if I could pick up my bags the next morning and leave it overnight, but it was a definite no. Very strict vibe. Hostels are supposed be more relaxed. Sadly have to give it 1 star.
Wis Z — Google review
Well located near the main downtown area, the beach and the historic sites. It was easy to find and despite not having a 24 hour reception, the instructions were clear. I was able to drop my bag off early as well as leave it in a locked storage space before my check out time. The structure of the hostel is quite different from most. There are several small public spaces on each floor with the main one being on the top floor with the kitchen. Rooms are equipped with a towel and individual lockers, however there are only shared bathrooms. The staff are friendly when they were around. Good for a few nights stay in Nazaré!
Alexis B — Google review
I stayed in the double room. Comfortable bed, seaview from the window and quiet. Equipped kitchen, a balcony to have breakfast and plenty of room to chill. The host was welcoming and solved all our problems without hesitation. We will be back next time!
Laura L — Google review
If you want a good night's sleep, this is not the place for you, but if you want to socialise, then yes. The rooms are beautiful with an amazing view, and the beds comfortable, as are the common areas, and it's very close to the village and the beach, but the noise is unbearable. We stayed in a double room near the kitchen/common area, and the whole experience was ruined by the noise, with a shared bathroom right next to the bedroom wall and the kitchen next door with people, coming and going, between 11 p.m. and midnight and between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. The noise spreads throughout the entire hostel. From 11 p.m. to midnight, there are still people talking and using the kitchen, such as the microwave after midnight. After that, things calmed down a bit, but it didn't last long until 6 a.m. when people started talking really loudly in the common area, even after being asked to be a bit more considerate. I understand that it is a hostel and that things are flexible, and some people wake-up early to enjoy the day, but there has to be a minimum of respect and sensitivity towards others, or else there should be someone in charge who has some control over this.
Rafaela R — Google review
Very nice and clean hostel. The kitchen and bathroom are shared but very clean. The rooms are very spacious! There’s a storage room for luggage. The dining room table can also be used as a pingpong table and there is also a living room for chilling! The whole vibe was super chill. It felt familiar in a very comforting way. The owner was very relaxed, which was fully reflected in the energy of the space. And he was also nice to look at 😇 When I come back to Nazare I will definitely stay here again. 🌞 Obrigada!

Scenic spot
Forno de Orca Cave, also known as Orca's Oven, is a natural limestone cave located at Praia do Norte. Accessible during low tide and calm sea conditions, the cave offers a unique opportunity to explore its interior. However, during rough seas and high tide, the cave can be engulfed by violent waves. The path to the beach from the lighthouse is initially well-marked but becomes more challenging further down, requiring some rock scrambling and navigating through natural archways.
A cave like excavation by the sea facing the big wave surfing area on the northern shore of Nazaré just below the Sao Miguel fortress. The combination of big waves, tide and limestone explain the formation of this structure. The police patrols the beach in periods of big waves when the place should definitely be avoided.
Sebastian R — Google review
Rain can make this a very muddy walk but still worth the view and listening to the surf. If you want to get in the cave you will have to pick the right time based on the tide and size of the surf. There is free parking in some places too.

Forno de Orca Cave is a natural cave created by the ocean, a few minutes ’walk from Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo. From here you have one of the most beautiful views of the huge waves coming to the shores of Nazaré. There will be significantly fewer tourists disturbing our tranquility here. The cave and its surroundings cannot be visited in very windy weather.

Small grottoes at the south end of Praia Norte Nazaré. There is a rough trail to reach this place from the road nearby the lighthouse, Farol de Nazaré, but the trail is marked with warning signs not to proceed. Nestled just a short drive from the heart of Nazare, Praia do Norte is an absolute gem that beckons beach lovers and adventure seekers alike. This expansive stretch of golden sand, framed by towering cliffs, offers not only stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean but also serves as a renowned surfing hotspot. Whether you're an experienced surfer or simply looking to soak in the sun and listen to the soothing sounds of the waves, this beach has something for everyone.
Very long and wide beach. For me, it's a very good point to watch the waves. Bring the blanket and enjoy the sounds of the sea. Parking nearby is fairly small, we had an issue to park in Feb, but I can't imagine how busy it's gets in the summer. There is no access to the clif close to the Fort... there is a path, sort of, but in my opinion, it's not worth taking.
Krzysztof Z — Google review
Nazaré North is amazing. Keep in mind, even though there are giant waves, if you want to see the biggest waves in the world, you should visit in November, the peak season. It’s an incredible show for surf and nature lovers. Definitely worth going just to feel the unique energy of the canyon beneath the sea over 5 kilometers deepright just a few meters away.
Franklin H — Google review
An unforgettable place to enjoy nature at its best! The sunsets from Praia do Norte are breathtaking and wonderfully romantic. Access can be a bit challenging—there’s no parking right on the beach, so you have to walk a while, and going back uphill may be less comfortable with children. But it is absolutely worth every step, and we will certainly return.
Lilia S — Google review
Stunning… the waves weren’t massive this time of year but absolutely worth the trip to see.
Traci R — Google review
Praia do Norte is truly a breathtaking place. Famous for its record-breaking giant waves, this beach in Nazaré is a must-visit for anyone who loves the power of the ocean. The dramatic coastline, the endless Atlantic horizon, and the energy of the waves create an unforgettable atmosphere. Whether you’re watching the world’s best surfers take on massive swells or simply enjoying the natural beauty, Praia do Norte leaves a lasting impression. It’s a place where nature’s raw power meets serene coastal charm a true gem of Portugal.
Irina P — Google review
This is a surf beach, not for family swinming. Nice steady rolls at high tides, and smooth sand. View is phenomenal.

Worth the drive. Nature offers up a symphony of chaos that is breathtaking to behold.

Nestled about 120 km north of Lisbon along Portugal's stunning Silver Coast lies the charming town of Nazaré. Once a quaint fishing village, it has transformed into a vibrant summer resort, attracting surfers and beach lovers alike with its renowned giant waves. Amidst this picturesque setting, Rebecca Klug offers invaluable interpreter and language support services. Whether you're grappling with bureaucratic hurdles or simply need assistance navigating local processes, Rebecca is your go-to resource.
Rebecca is, professional, energetic and trustworthy. She communicated with me regularly during the time she was assisting me with a bureaucratic process. She is a problem solver and I'm likely to ask her for assistance again (at least until my Portuguese language skills improve dramatically). Highly, recommend.
Greg R — Google review
Rebecca is amazing! She helped me with some phone calls and quotes. She did a great job, communicated clearly with me about progress updates and is fantastic. I would recommend her for in person or phone translation. In addition, her attitude makes her a pleasure to work with. I have recommended her to several people and they've been happy with her too.
Cordelia F — Google review
If you need help finding your way through the Finanças maze, Rebecca is the guide for you! Fluent in Portuguese, English and German, Rebecca is also the perfect person who can help you with in-person communication at government offices and anywhere where communication and information are essential to living in Portugal. I am so grateful knowing that Rebecca is always there for me, ready to help with translation and important navigation of bureaucratic processes. In addition to her excellent language skills, Rebecca is reliable, helpful, efficient and has a kind and friendly demeanour. I highly recommend Rebecca Klug’s Language Support Services for expats living Portugal!
Biteena F — Google review
My wife and I rely on Rebecca for help in dealing with bureaucratic matters where we do not yet have the skill to negotiate on our own. Rebecca helped me decipher instructions for submitting electric meter readings online, on two occasions she’s written cover letters explaining the trove of documents we were required to submit, she helped us negotiate the Finanças portal and once Rebecca set-up an appointment with a local notary and attended with us clearly translating our requirements resulting in a satisfactory outcome. The most important part for me is that I can feel secure in knowing I can count on her for help when needed. On one occasion where our schedule conflicted with hers, Rebecca referred us to a trusted colleague allowing us to keep our appointment. I recommend Rebecca Klug without reservation.
Stefan R — Google review
We highly recommend Rebecca as an interpreter; we see her as a great assistant in many ways. While arriving in a new country isnt the same as landing in a new country, she helped us out in trying to find our way to all the different offices you have to go to to get a certain paper. She works with great understanding for the Portugese way of life but with a German thoroughness alongside it. Always friendly and respectful to us and to the people she meets.
Mip I — Google review
Rebecca is so professional and efficient. She has done all sorts of tasks for me, ranging from language support in person, on forms and also making phone calls on my behalf. Rebecca has also helped me and my clients with far more complex jobs such as finding, fixing, completing and/or submitting various documentation essential to living in Portugal. The best thing about Rebecca and her work is that she has tenacity and won't give up until she finds the solution for your situation. She leaves no stone unturned until the job is done. Because she knows this country and region so well, she's also really fast at completing many of these tasks. Much faster than other companies that claim to specialise in these things. Rebecca is still my 'go-to' person whenever I have a doubt or need help. Very, very highly recommended.
Nazare F — Google review
I can highly recommend Rebecca for assistance with just about any issue you might have in dealing with Portuguese language issues, bureaucracy, form-filling, answering official letters, getting services connected and functioning; you name it, she can help! She is very professional, reliable, trustworthy, efficient, and patient, and a pleasure to work with.
David M — Google review
Rebecca is professional, pleasant and very adapt at finding her way through the bureaucracy. She works efficiently and keeps the communication open at all times. I would not hesitate to use her services again and highly recommend her.

The Monastery of Alcobaça is a stunning Cistercian monastery with origins dating back to the 12th century. As you enter through its grand gates, you'll be captivated by the breathtaking Gothic architecture and intricate stone carvings that depict centuries of history. This UNESCO World Heritage site was founded in 1153 by King Afonso Henriques and is considered one of the most beautiful Cistercian monasteries in Portugal.
Impressive from the outside, sober on the inside. However some details reveal the size of the population inhabiting it at the height of its existence. The number of rooms, the large kitchen with the huge chimney and more. All beautifully maintained. The graves of Pedro and Ines is a beautiful piece of carving; and their graves are romantically positioned so that they will see each other first when they rise again :) We were almost alone (‘t was the low season), but it can clearly become very crowded during high season. When you’re done visiting you can get some food or refreshments on the place nearby.
Patrice K — Google review
Well restored huge monastery. Very well maintained, easy to follow map. Read up on the history beforehand "the Romeo and juliet" of Portugal.
Laura L — Google review
Well worth the visit. Much of the monastery if free and open to the public. The structure is grand and well worth a look itself, but what really stands out are the engravings on the tombs of King Pedro and Dona Inês de Castro. The stone carvings are incredibly intricate and we'll preserved.
Robert V — Google review
Worth the visit; nice places for lunch or dinner after. In my original review I said, based on memory, that in most respects it is not as impressive as Batalha, but having just visited them both, back to back, I take that back. They both have different charms, and I can't say that either is "better".
Matt E — Google review
Great historic monastery that isn’t overrun with tourists (yet). Citizen card or residence permit gets you in for free during the 2025 program.
Donald B — Google review
Beautiful place I recommend seeing it. It's worth the price, located in a very small and quiet town. The inside was huge very pretty and had some amazing architecture. There were so many thorough descriptions and details about the place, I learned so much about the Portuguese and their history. There were statues, rooms and magnificent objects from when the monastery was working. It was easy to find yourself with alot of directions and instructions to see all the rooms. The view I preferred the most was inside the monastery, in the middle, where the garden was. This place deserves the detour.
Justine D — Google review
Its church, completed in the 13th century, was the first fully Gothic building in Portugal and remains one of the largest. The monastery is also famous for the tombs of King Pedro I and Inês de Castro, whose tragic love story has become legendary in Portuguese history.

Ascensor da Nazaré, also known as the Nazare Funicular, is a convenient way to travel between Sitio da Nazare and Nazare beach. This funicular has been in operation since the late 19th century and was built to facilitate settlement in the area and promote its development. The ride offers stunning views of the town and beach, making it a popular choice for visitors. For a small fee, travelers can enjoy breathtaking scenery and easy access to the city.
The Ascensor da Nazaré is an absolute must-visit for anyone exploring this beautiful coastal town. It’s not just a means of transport—it’s an experience in itself, offering a stunning and unforgettable view over Nazaré. Why You Can’t Miss It No trip to Nazaré is complete without taking this iconic funicular up to Sítio, the historic upper part of the town. The journey is short but scenic, and once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the ocean, the beach, and the vibrant town below. The Experience The ascensor is efficient, affordable, and convenient, making it an easy way to get up the steep hill while enjoying the ride. Once at the top, you can explore Sítio’s charming streets, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré, and, of course, the world-famous views of Praia do Norte, home to some of the biggest waves ever surfed. Final Verdict A trip to Nazaré wouldn’t be complete without this unique experience. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning traveler, the Ascensor da Nazaré is unmissable—both for its practicality and the incredible views it offers. Rating: 10/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A must-do in Nazaré!

A cool experience a d convenient way to get down the super steep slope to and from the beach! Made exploring both the main beach and the north side easy! Prices were reasonable, and it was pretty quick in both directions. Much shorter ride (3 min) than taking the steep stairs (14min)!! Nice work! A

"Escultura Veado Surfista" is a stunning and significant sculpture located on the promontory of the renowned Nazare wave. This impressive artwork combines elements of surf culture, featuring a surfboard, with a deer head that references a 12th-century legend. According to the legend, the sheriff of Porto de Mos chased a deer (or possibly the devil in disguise) and was saved from peril by invoking the Madonna's intervention.
Escultura Veado Surfista is a unique and iconic monument nestled in the Portuguese town of Nazaré. Created by Portuguese sculptor Adália Alberto, the statue celebrates the legend of Nazaré and the town’s status as one of the world’s most revered surfing destinations. The magnificent piece, aptly named Veado, displays an oversized deer head symbolizing Dom Fuas Roupinho's saved life, alongside an ocean wave representing the town’s legendary surfing spot. The grandiose statue stands watch over the Praia do Norte beach, honoring both the ancient legends and world record breaking feats of surfers that are drawn to the area each year.

The Veado Surfista (Surfer Deer) sculpture is an intriguing piece that blends modern creativity with local traditions. It’s a unique symbol of Nazaré’s spirit — where the old and the new meet. Definitely worth a quick stop if you’re visiting Nazaré.
Murillo P — Google review
According to the Legend of Nazaré the sheriff of Porto de Mós, Dom Fuas Roupinho, maybe a templar, was chasing on horseback a deer up a hilltop on a misty September morning in 1182 (later it was said that it was the devil, in the disguise of a deer). When the deer jumped over the edge of the hilltop into the void, his fiery horse was about to follow. Then the knight invoked the intervention of the Madonna, who made the horse turn away through a supernatural effort and saved the knight's life.

Depending on what's your type of travelling you might love this place or hate it. To me this was one of the most fascinating places visited in portugal. The church is next to a beautiful bridge, and a quite big place that must have been a beautiful farm with a house, you can still see the chimney and the water storage, a fountain, and the pigeons house. All surrounded by immense fields with horses. It's a pity that they are leaving it abandoned...a little bit of restauration and this place would become a picturesque spot to travel back in time.
