Avila National Park in Venezuela is a mountainous paradise offering stunning panoramic views, outdoor activities like hiking and birdwatching, and a serene natural setting. The park's iconic Avila Mountain looms over Caracas to the north, providing cooler temperatures for the city. Visitors can take a gondola up for great views and explore the Humboldt Hotel before embarking on hiking routes to Galipan.
My favorite thing about Caracas it’s definitely the Avila, it’s actual name it’s Guaraira Repano. You can do many things nature walks, go to the rivers, get to the top and eat there’s even one of the best hotels called the Humboldt, you can even go ice skating on the top of the Avila. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Caracas, the Teresa Carreño Theater is a cultural gem that should not be missed. Opened on April 19, 1983, this magnificent venue is celebrated as Venezuela's most significant theater and ranks as the second largest in South America. With its striking brutalist design covering an impressive 88,000 m², it pays homage to the renowned pianist Teresa Carreño.
The Teresa Carreño Theater in Caracas is truly a cultural gem and an architectural masterpiece. This striking brutalist structure stands as one of Latin America's most impressive performing arts venues, commanding attention with its bold concrete forms and dramatic geometric shapes. What makes this theater so special is how it successfully blends the rawness of brutalist architecture with elements of classical design, creating a space that feels both contemporary and timeless. The massive concrete exterior gives way to surprisingly warm and acoustically perfect interior spaces. The main concert hall is simply breathtaking, with excellent sightlines and acoustics that enhance every performance. Named after the renowned Venezuelan pianist Teresa Carreño, the theater honors her legacy by providing a world-class venue for opera, ballet, orchestral performances, and other cultural events. The building's multiple performance spaces allow for diverse programming that caters to various artistic expressions. The interior detailing is particularly noteworthy - from the elegant wood paneling to the thoughtful lighting design that softens the concrete elements. The grand foyers and staircases create a sense of occasion before you even reach your seat. For architecture enthusiasts, this is a must-visit example of brutalist design that actually succeeds in being both functional and beautiful. For performing arts lovers, the quality of the space elevates every performance. The Teresa Carreño Theater stands as a powerful symbol of Venezuela's cultural heritage and artistic ambitions.

We went on Saturday. From the parking lot to the park there are tons of stairs, I went with my toddlers and it felt dangerous. On top of that we manage to get their feet on the water and some tiny little insects that didn't look at all like mosquitos bit them. Mercado Chacao gives you a great option to buy fruits and vegetables, but get ready for the exuberant prices. Absolutely ridiculous. The flower market it's very nice. Do not buy meat and fish it doesn't look good.
Jorge H — Google review
Quality of produce and products second to none. Unfortunately, they're way , way overpriced. I am not clear if it has to do with the location, purchasing power of patrons or it just simply "l can afford to overpay..." and l don't care Let's face it 1 kg of potatoes is 1 kg of potatoes, why try to charge 4 times more for it? I am a true believer of free market, offer and demand. My feeling is that, other things being equal, they could make more money coming down to earth with realistic prices. Don't get me wrong. It's a nice atmosphere, vendors are extremely friendly and polite, but l doubt if I would choose this market for my day to day groceries.

(Translated by Google) Its history dates back to the 16th century, when the first church in the city of Caracas was built in the same place. Other constructions followed until it gave way to the current cathedral. Its construction began approximately in the second half of the 17th century, and was completed in the first decades of the 18th century. Throughout its existence it has undergone important modifications such as extensions, removal of the third bell tower, changes in the materials of its cover and in the shape of its columns, increase in the height of the façade, among others. The floor plan of the church is rectangular. owns five naves which are separated by arches supported by a series of columns. Its façade has a symmetrical composition. It has three bodies decorated with neoclassical pilasters and cornices, whose upper body finishes in a lobed pediment. In its northern corner it shows a bell tower with a square base with two bodies. The crown is a capulín on an octagonal drum. It is currently considered a landmark of Caracas, not only for its architectural value, but also for its historical value, since the Cathedral is associated with crucial events in the history of the country. The Liberator Simón was baptized there. Bolívar in 1783, and his remains rested from 1842 until 1876, the year in which they were definitively transferred to National Pantheon. It is the owner of a large set of religious images, colonial altarpieces, and artistic works from different periods. It was declared a National Monument according to Official Gazette No. 25,413, dated September 23, 1957.

(Translated by Google) The Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Ana or Caracas Cathedral is the main temple, due to its history and location, of the city of Caracas, and the headquarters of the Archdiocese of Caracas; It is located in the historic center of the city in the Cathedral Parish of the Libertador Municipality, next to the renowned Plaza Bolívar of Caracas. As a province that experienced its development in a later period, Venezuela developed a more modest architecture than that of provinces such as Peru or New Spain. During the 17th century, in the growing province of Venezuela, the demand for religious buildings by a growing bourgeoisie and population increased. It was in this context that the cathedral of Caracas was commissioned by the architect Juan de Medina in 1665, replacing the small church destroyed by the earthquake of 1641; completed in 1674. Its façade dates from 1771, the work of Francisco Andrés de Meneses. Damaged by the earthquake of 1812, its tower (which gives its name to one of the corners of Caracas) was reduced in size. In 1866 a baroque style frontispiece was built on its façade. In 1932 and the 1960s, restoration and modification works were carried out throughout the temple. The colonial chapels of La Trinidad stand out (where the mortal remains of Simón Bolívar's parents and wife are), Pópulo and Pilar. It was dedicated to Saint Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary.

One of the best universities in Venezuela, it's connected to the city center, so it's very easy to come and go. There's a specific subway station that will take you there, so if you don't have a car, you can make your way in there. Its openness to the city center, has made it somewhat unsafe, so you should mind your safety when walking around campus. Their quality of education is very high. The new Galeria de Arte Nacional, which began construction in the 1990s, is a project that hasn't shine to its full potential. Part of the building is still not in use or incomplete (and ruinous), which makes its access unwieldy, going through a foul part of Avenida México, which is a diminished experience from the former Museum's plaza at the end of Parque Los Caobos. It seems woefully incomplete and rushed. Having said that, the scope of art exposed in the premises, while limited, retains part of the classics of our artistic heritage. Important restorations and modelling, such as Reverón's Castillete, are laudable. A number of interesting retrospectives are frequently in place. Alas, the Museum's infrastructure limitations, especially energy-wise, does not help to appreciate the art pieces. Moreover, there are very few sculptures, not many interactive or educative activities, and no souvenirs. More strikingly, some contemporary artists less akin to the Bolivarian revolution are not on display. All in all, "Miranda en la Carraca" makes the visit worth it.

Children's Museums
The Children's Museum of Caracas, founded in 1982 by Alicia Pietri de Caldera, offers an interactive and educational experience for kids. The museum features exhibits on science, technology, arts, and culture in a fun and engaging environment. Visitors can explore topics such as biology, communication, space, medicine, food, the human body, water bodies, the Earth and space through hands-on displays.
Come rain or come shine, the Caracas' Museo de los Niños remains a bright spot in the city. There have been important efforts to update some facilities, and yet part of the interactive exhibits have such simple interactivity and deal with such basic principles that they retain their wonder and awe for children. Even in the digital age, they are timeless. Moreover, young parents might find newer attractions: for toddlers and kindergartners, colours and shapes; for kids and pre-teens, space exploration, the fight against drugs and the newly opened paleontology area. The museum's remains as a testimony of the extraordinary vision for childrens' development of Alicia Pietri de Caldera. ....... A full ticket goes for about 3$. The area around the museum can be rough, but the outing is worth it.

(Translated by Google) El Calvario, officially known as Ezequiel Zamora Park, is an iconic corner of Caracas that combines history, nature, and mystery into a unique experience. At the beginning of the tour, visitors face a 90-step staircase that ascends as a physical and spiritual challenge, surrounded by vegetation and views that become more impressive the higher they go. Once at the top, the park opens up like an urban oasis with gazebos, fountains, historical busts, and shaded paths that invite contemplation. From there, one can appreciate panoramic views of Miraflores Palace, El Silencio, and the Military Museum, while the atmosphere is filled with calm and nostalgia. Among its architectural gems are the Arch of the Federation, a symbol of the Federal War, and the mysterious Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, a Gothic construction that seems suspended in time, wrapped in silence and devotion. This space, originally designed by French landscapers in the 19th century, has witnessed political and cultural transformations, yet retains its essence as an emotional and aesthetic refuge. El Calvario is not just a park: it's a living narrative that connects the past with the present, inviting us to rediscover Caracas from above. I wish they'd made it a little greener, with more flowers, and some maintenance.

(Translated by Google) El Calvario is an oasis within our capital city; it gives you the feeling of being somewhere other than Caracas. It's located in the city's west-central area, at the end of Universidad Avenue, at the intersection with San Martín Avenue, in the El Silencio neighborhood. You enter through its famous steps or by going up to the right along a level where you can see the Arco de la Federación (Federation Arch). El Calvario (now called Ezequiel Zamora) offers a wide range of options for its visitors. To begin with, it's a place of recreation and leisure; it even has a playground within its facilities. Its elevated location offers beautiful views of our beloved capital city and is also an ideal place to rest, relax, spend time with family, and even exercise. I won't discount the fact that we can bring our pets inside without any problems. Another attraction: it's a historical and cultural space, featuring various sculptures and busts of historical figures from our country and abroad throughout its perimeter. I took photographs of a statue of the father of our country, Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar Ponte y Palacios (Simón Bolívar), and another of the Venezuelan pianist, mezzo-soprano, and composer María Teresa Gertrudis de Jesús Carreño García (Teresa Carreño); an artist I greatly admire, who, as many of us know, has a theater here in Caracas named after her: the Teresa Carreño Theater, or as we Caraqueños call it, the TTC. In short, the Calvario is a pleasant place to visit.

Maripérez station is a stalwart gondola that offers panoramic city views and access to a mountaintop park with an eatery and skating rink. Designed by Pietri, the concrete station connects the city with El Avila National Park. While the cable car lift may not have been operational during a visit in December 2022, travelers can still reach the top by truck in just 25 minutes.
Such a beautiful experience, you will have to wait in line for a bit but the views make up for everything. It tends to be cold but the walk warms you up🙂

Amazing views of Caracas on the way up and down. However, the disappointment came when I was charged extra for being a foreigner. It felt like I was discriminated against, and even my local guide said that the extra charge was not fair.

The train was launched especially for our group. During the journey we saw an amazing barrio. Caracas is a beautiful but also dangerous capital. It used to be the most dangerous capital in the world, today who knows? but it is definitely safer than it used to be. I recommend visiting this metropolis when you are in Venezuela!
Łukasz H — Google review
This was truly an exceptional experience. The cable car ride was absolutely wonderful, taking approximately 28 minutes to ascend to the summit, which is quite high. It can be a bit misleading, as if the weather appears unfavorable and the surroundings are obscured by clouds, it often clears within an hour, revealing the beautiful scenery. I was fortunate enough to have complimentary tickets to the summit, as they were included with my stay at the Humboldt Hotel. There is so many small shops to buy food and drinks from. This is absolutely fabulous place to visit even just for a short hike or half day stay. I am highly recommending it🤩🤩🤩🤩

A must to do in Caracas. Take it and go to the top of the mountain. Enjoy the view, the food, the fresh air and the hospitality of the locals. The stuff are very helpful 🤩🤩 I think the price of 30$ is a little bit expensiv.

By the time I visited in December 2022 they lift were not working so the only option to go up is by truck. Surprisingly it only takes 25min to get to the top and the ride is exhilarating! The drivers are very experienced and they know their way up and down in a road that is in relatively good condition. I highly recommend you go all the way to the Humboldt Hotel at the top of the mountain, walk around the area and enjoy the wonderful view of Caracas and La Guaira with the Caribbean Sea. Get a nice strawberry with cream and then head down to Galipan by either walking 20min or taking one of the trucks down (for an extra fee). Galipan is a wonderful little town where you can ride a horse, grab one of their famous cachapas or pernil dishes before you head back to Caracas. The same trucks you pay to take you up will also departure from Galipan so you don’t have to go back up for the return.

We did not have much expectations for the zoo, but were very pleasantly surprised. The entrance fee is $10 for everyone ages 1 and up and includes a little bag of carrots to feed to certain animals. We saw mini pigs, camels bunnies, flamingos, ostrich, snakes, monkeys, parrots, cows, ponies and chickens. We had a great time with the whole family and would definitely reccomend this place.

Nice experience, especially if you go with young children. Feeding and petting the animals is a great activity. However, the staff at the entrance were not very kind nor welcoming, we were tempted to turn around and leave, they won't give you a purchase receipt, won't have change and are not very helpful.

A very nice place to spend a different time, it's special to share with contact animals. You can find dromedaries, deer, goats, rabbits, cows, peacocks, among other varieties of animals. The place is not that big but it is very nice, they have a space to rent and have parties, they work with special children and do therapies with animals. There is no where to eat, there is a very small cafeteria and I think that is why I put four stars. You can feed the animals with carrots while you do the tour. It's a place that I would go again without a doubt, I love animals. The staff who work there are not very talkative except for about 2 people who spoke with us and were very friendly.

Being the headquarters of one of the Public Powers of Venezuela, it is a building of great architectural, institutional and political value, one of the legacies of the first government of General Antonio Guzmán Blanco (1870-1877) in his rush to modernize the capital city. Since 1877, the Federal Capitol was the headquarters of the three Powers of the Nation: the Federal Executive, Legislative and Judicial. But since 1961 it has been for the exclusive use of the National Legislative Branch. Due to its historical and cultural importance, the building was declared National Heritage on August 22, 1997. (Translated by Google) As part of Guzmán Blanco's policy of eliminating convents, the Federal and Legislative Palace was built in the entire block that was previously occupied by the Concepción church. The Capitol, surrounded by boulevards, was, in this way, the first monumental work destined to change the physiognomy of the colonial city. The palace was built by the Credit Company (an association of distinguished merchants of the city), and became a fundamental reference of 19th century Caracas. To carry it out, Guzmán Blanco introduces changes in work methods, establishing shifts to guarantee the progress of the works, strict deadlines and fixed completion dates. Its construction was decreed in September 1872, resulting in a neoclassical style monument, 20 meters high in its highest part, which was built in two stages; first the south wing, which houses the Legislative Palace and the session halls in 1873, and second, the north wing or Federal Palace, which houses the Elliptical Hall, in 1877. Both bodies are established forming a set of arches around the patio , whose central fountain (Duvale's project) was inspired by the Place de la Concorde in Paris. The exterior of the dome is covered in bronze, while its interior displays the oil painting of the Battle of Carabobode 1888, the work of Martín Tovar y Tovar (1827-1902). The Capitol was inaugurated on the scheduled date, February 20, 1877, the last day of Guzmán Blanco's government.

This shopping mall is quite extensive, offering a wide variety of brands and styles, ranging from sportswear to elegant attire. A gourmet dining establishment, accessible by escalator, is located at the top of the building, although only the grill area appeared to be open at the time. The prices are notably high, with a plant-based protein dish costing $65 and items from Swarovski being significantly more expensive than in London. It seems this establishment caters primarily to a very affluent clientele, though I am not certain. It might be best to simply browse and then depart. The third floor features a Laser Airlines agency for purchasing tickets.

Nice mall with very nice places to go. Movie theater, restaurants and even the clinic where I work at.

Beautiful shopping mall with good restaurants and bars
Gabriela F — Google review
Nice aesthetics, nice movie theater. Overall, there are a lot of food places and interesting stores to browse. You can buy games, movies, sweets and entertainment. There are some nice bars and it's in a good area where you can find anything you need.

It's a wonderful example of Venezuela's 00's architecture, designed by architect Carlos Gómez de Llarena, where the interior space dialogues with the exterior taking advantage of the Caracas climate.
Andrea G — Google review
Nothing too special. Good place to shop if you know what you're looking for. Not a fun place to hang out, sadly. The restaurants at street level are great though.
