Avila National Park in Venezuela is a mountainous paradise offering stunning panoramic views, outdoor activities like hiking and birdwatching, and a serene natural setting. The park's iconic Avila Mountain looms over Caracas to the north, providing cooler temperatures for the city. Visitors can take a gondola up for great views and explore the Humboldt Hotel before embarking on hiking routes to Galipan.
My favorite thing about Caracas it’s definitely the Avila, it’s actual name it’s Guaraira Repano. You can do many things nature walks, go to the rivers, get to the top and eat there’s even one of the best hotels called the Humboldt, you can even go ice skating on the top of the Avila. It’s definitely a visit you need to make

A unique park where young bohemian people meet to hang out. People in this park engaged in activities like dancing, roleplaying, and stunts. People had their own thing and had a unique style; I admire that. There are a lot of museums and cultural centers around the area. Overall, it’s a great park; a nice place to take a stroll and take in the sights.

A historical place, full of colonial-times beautiful paintings (circa 1700) in need of deep maintenance but beautiful. Mercado Municipal de Chacao is a vibrant and bustling market in Caracas, offering an authentic local experience. It showcases a wide array of products, from fresh produce to artisanal goods, reflecting the city's support for small producers and sustainable practices. Visitors can immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere, filled with enticing aromas and proud vendors displaying their wares.
Are you looking for fresh? This is the place for you. Blend between all you need and nice people that will help you get it. It's a nice experience to get to know the people that work here. Free parking and a safe place to shop.
Herbert S — Google review
Mercado Chacao gives you a great option to buy fruits and vegetables, but get ready for the exuberant prices. Absolutely ridiculous. The flower market it's very nice. Do not buy meat and fish it doesn't look good.
Jorge H — Google review
Quality of produce and products second to none. Unfortunately, they're way , way overpriced. I am not clear if it has to do with the location, purchasing power of patrons or it just simply "l can afford to overpay..." and l don't care Let's face it 1 kg of potatoes is 1 kg of potatoes, why try to charge 4 times more for it? I am a true believer of free market, offer and demand. My feeling is that, other things being equal, they could make more money coming down to earth with realistic prices. Don't get me wrong. It's a nice atmosphere, vendors are extremely friendly and polite, but l doubt if I would choose this market for my day to day groceries.

Farm market is pretty good. Fresh vegetables, fruit, handcraft cheese, delicatessen, traditional spices, fresh eggs, chocolate products even you can eat traditional foods (like a food truck but it doesn't pretty good). You can buy some essential products like soaps, vegetable oils, shampoo, toilet paper, and other important items that you can't find in the shopping market but remember they have free market price. The vallet parking lot is free but you can give tip.

Jesús C — Google review
+: Easy to get to, good valet, the coffee and brownies at the entrance are amazing (still haven't taken the rest of the menu), the decoration and cleanness is as good as expected, the book store is full of worthy pieces and the restaurants are pretty good even if they are expensive. Perfect place to hang out for a first date or a casual talk. -: Too many flies due to the still waters, which might seem a little bit dangerous and usually on weekdays is a dead point (this might be a good thing for some)
Francesco G — Google review
It's nice looking and it has movies on Saturdays. However, you can't take pictures inside without special permission from management and it's mostly watch only, except for the bookstore, which has nice books and a coffee shop. Not interactive enough to be worth a tourist visit, I think.

Children's Museums
The Children's Museum of Caracas, founded in 1982 by Alicia Pietri de Caldera, offers an interactive and educational experience for kids. The museum features exhibits on science, technology, arts, and culture in a fun and engaging environment. Visitors can explore topics such as biology, communication, space, medicine, food, the human body, water bodies, the Earth and space through hands-on displays.
Come rain or come shine, the Caracas' Museo de los Niños remains a bright spot in the city. There have been important efforts to update some facilities, and yet part of the interactive exhibits have such simple interactivity and deal with such basic principles that they retain their wonder and awe for children. Even in the digital age, they are timeless. Moreover, young parents might find newer attractions: for toddlers and kindergartners, colours and shapes; for kids and pre-teens, space exploration, the fight against drugs and the newly opened paleontology area. The museum's remains as a testimony of the extraordinary vision for childrens' development of Alicia Pietri de Caldera. ....... A full ticket goes for about 3$. The area around the museum can be rough, but the outing is worth it.
Guillermo C — Google review
At one point this used to be a great museum , a place where you could expose kids to science , nature , biology etc with a different and super entertaining approach . But everything is really old and outdated and by the way it looks apparently they haven't invested a single dine in renewing it or at least keeping things working .

Good vibes all around this place. Groundroads take you among small cascades and rivers in a very natural atmosphere. You'll merely remember that you still in Caracas. There's a restaurant that serves basic foods and drinks. People use to go for swimming in the small natural pools.

We went on Saturday. From the parking lot to the park there are tons of stairs, I went with my toddlers and it felt dangerous. On top of that we manage to get their feet on the water and some tiny little insects that didn't look at all like mosquitos bit them. They where really black and rounded, almost like a tiny fruit fly but completely black, those bites 2 days before got infected... A real nightmare.

Maripérez station is a stalwart gondola that offers panoramic city views and access to a mountaintop park with an eatery and skating rink. Designed by Pietri, the concrete station connects the city with El Avila National Park. While the cable car lift may not have been operational during a visit in December 2022, travelers can still reach the top by truck in just 25 minutes.
Such a beautiful experience, you will have to wait in line for a bit but the views make up for everything. It tends to be cold but the walk warms you up🙂

Amazing views of Caracas on the way up and down. However, the disappointment came when I was charged extra for being a foreigner. It felt like I was discriminated against, and even my local guide said that the extra charge was not fair.

The train was launched especially for our group. During the journey we saw an amazing barrio. Caracas is a beautiful but also dangerous capital. It used to be the most dangerous capital in the world, today who knows? but it is definitely safer than it used to be. I recommend visiting this metropolis when you are in Venezuela!
Łukasz H — Google review
This was truly an exceptional experience. The cable car ride was absolutely wonderful, taking approximately 28 minutes to ascend to the summit, which is quite high. It can be a bit misleading, as if the weather appears unfavorable and the surroundings are obscured by clouds, it often clears within an hour, revealing the beautiful scenery. I was fortunate enough to have complimentary tickets to the summit, as they were included with my stay at the Humboldt Hotel. There is so many small shops to buy food and drinks from. This is absolutely fabulous place to visit even just for a short hike or half day stay. I am highly recommending it🤩🤩🤩🤩

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Caracas, the Teresa Carreño Theater is a cultural gem that should not be missed. Opened on April 19, 1983, this magnificent venue is celebrated as Venezuela's most significant theater and ranks as the second largest in South America. With its striking brutalist design covering an impressive 88,000 m², it pays homage to the renowned pianist Teresa Carreño.
The Teresa Carreño Theater in Caracas is truly a cultural gem and an architectural masterpiece. This striking brutalist structure stands as one of Latin America's most impressive performing arts venues, commanding attention with its bold concrete forms and dramatic geometric shapes. What makes this theater so special is how it successfully blends the rawness of brutalist architecture with elements of classical design, creating a space that feels both contemporary and timeless. The massive concrete exterior gives way to surprisingly warm and acoustically perfect interior spaces. The main concert hall is simply breathtaking, with excellent sightlines and acoustics that enhance every performance. Named after the renowned Venezuelan pianist Teresa Carreño, the theater honors her legacy by providing a world-class venue for opera, ballet, orchestral performances, and other cultural events. The building's multiple performance spaces allow for diverse programming that caters to various artistic expressions. The interior detailing is particularly noteworthy - from the elegant wood paneling to the thoughtful lighting design that softens the concrete elements. The grand foyers and staircases create a sense of occasion before you even reach your seat. For architecture enthusiasts, this is a must-visit example of brutalist design that actually succeeds in being both functional and beautiful. For performing arts lovers, the quality of the space elevates every performance. The Teresa Carreño Theater stands as a powerful symbol of Venezuela's cultural heritage and artistic ambitions.

The new Galeria de Arte Nacional, which began construction in the 1990s, is a project that hasn't shine to its full potential. Part of the building is still not in use or incomplete (and ruinous), which makes its access unwieldy, going through a foul part of Avenida México, which is a diminished experience from the former Museum's plaza at the end of Parque Los Caobos. It seems woefully incomplete and rushed. Having said that, the scope of art exposed in the premises, while limited, retains part of the classics of our artistic heritage. Important restorations and modelling, such as Reverón's Castillete, are laudable. A number of interesting retrospectives are frequently in place. Alas, the Museum's infrastructure limitations, especially energy-wise, does not help to appreciate the art pieces. Moreover, there are very few sculptures, not many interactive or educative activities, and no souvenirs. More strikingly, some contemporary artists less akin to the Bolivarian revolution are not on display. All in all, "Miranda en la Carraca" makes the visit worth it.

We did not have much expectations for the zoo, but were very pleasantly surprised. The entrance fee is $10 for everyone ages 1 and up and includes a little bag of carrots to feed to certain animals. We saw mini pigs, camels bunnies, flamingos, ostrich, snakes, monkeys, parrots, cows, ponies and chickens. We had a great time with the whole family and would definitely reccomend this place.

Nice experience, especially if you go with young children. Feeding and petting the animals is a great activity. However, the staff at the entrance were not very kind nor welcoming, we were tempted to turn around and leave, they won't give you a purchase receipt, won't have change and are not very helpful.

A very nice place to spend a different time, it's special to share with contact animals. You can find dromedaries, deer, goats, rabbits, cows, peacocks, among other varieties of animals. The place is not that big but it is very nice, they have a space to rent and have parties, they work with special children and do therapies with animals. There is no where to eat, there is a very small cafeteria and I think that is why I put four stars. You can feed the animals with carrots while you do the tour. It's a place that I would go again without a doubt, I love animals. The staff who work there are not very talkative except for about 2 people who spoke with us and were very friendly.

(Translated by Google) The Federal Legislative Palace or also called the Federal Capitol, is the headquarters and main building of the Federal Legislative Branch, located in the city of Caracas, specifically on Avenida Universidad, diagonal to Plaza Bolívar, in the Capital District. Being the headquarters of one of the Public Powers of Venezuela, it is a building of great architectural, institutional and political value, one of the legacies of the first government of General Antonio Guzmán Blanco (1870-1877) in his rush to modernize the capital city. Since 1877, the Federal Capitol was the headquarters of the three Powers of the Nation: the Federal Executive, Legislative and Judicial. But since 1961 it has been for the exclusive use of the National Legislative Branch. Due to its historical and cultural importance, the building was declared National Heritage on August 22, 1997. The Capitol is also one of the main centers of historical attraction of the capital of Venezuela. (Translated by Google) As part of Guzmán Blanco's policy of eliminating convents, the Federal and Legislative Palace was built in the entire block that was previously occupied by the Concepción church. The Capitol, surrounded by boulevards, was, in this way, the first monumental work destined to change the physiognomy of the colonial city. The palace was built by the Credit Company (an association of distinguished merchants of the city), and became a fundamental reference of 19th century Caracas. To carry it out, Guzmán Blanco introduces changes in work methods, establishing shifts to guarantee the progress of the works, strict deadlines and fixed completion dates. Its construction was decreed in September 1872, resulting in a neoclassical style monument, 20 meters high in its highest part, which was built in two stages; first the south wing, which houses the Legislative Palace and the session halls in 1873, and second, the north wing or Federal Palace, which houses the Elliptical Hall, in 1877. Both bodies are established forming a set of arches around the patio , whose central fountain (Duvale's project) was inspired by the Place de la Concorde in Paris. The exterior of the dome is covered in bronze, while its interior displays the oil painting of the Battle of Carabobode 1888, the work of Martín Tovar y Tovar (1827-1902). The Capitol was inaugurated on the scheduled date, February 20, 1877, the last day of Guzmán Blanco's government.

I really enjoyed this experience along with my family. The second floor wasn’t open to public that day and I wanted to see the upstairs rooms. A man who serves visitors was kind enough to give us a guided tour, offering us the most important aspects of the history of the Basilica. During Holy Week, many devotees of the Nazarene of San Pablo whose image came to Venezuela from Spain in the 17th century gather. We can also see an image of the Virgin of Ávila, Saint Teresa, crucified Christ, and our Saint José Gregorio Hernández, among others. Likewise, you can see some relics. La Casita del Avestruz, nestled in the charming area of El Hatillo, offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in nature through engaging and educational animal encounters. Unlike traditional zoos where animals are merely observed from a distance, here you can interact closely with various species—ranging from exotic wildlife to familiar domesticated animals—all under the watchful eye of knowledgeable caregivers and educators. Visitors often rave about the dedication of the staff, whose passion for animal care shines through every interaction.

When it was a holiday, there were a certain number of people, so the guides were in different areas and there was not just one guide per group (On a day when there are fewer people, I imagine that this is the case). The positive point that the zoo has is that by being in contact, you live a unique experience with snakes, spiders, monkeys, goats and cunaguaros (main attraction). The guides are very attentive and explain everything very well. The bad thing is that for the price one pays per ticket ($78 for two people) I feel that the infrastructure of the place should be much better, starting with the cafeteria which should be a little bigger, there is a queue waiting to pay for the food. There are railings that are made of wood that do not look safe at all and dirt stairs that are in very poor condition and anyone could slip. Otherwise the animals look very well cared for, which is the most important thing.

Among them it is worth highlighting the Royal Prison, the seat of the Main Guard and headquarters of the City hall. In the decade of 1840 it was converted into a Palace of Government, and during the first term of General Guzmán Blanco, which spans the years 1870-1877, it was transformed into a Presidential Residence. For this purpose the property undergoes a remodel. Since then it has been called House Yellow. From the beginning of the 20th century, the house became the exclusive headquarters of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry. The image that the building currently has is a product of the remodeling that the old colonial building underwent around 1874. The direction of the work was entrusted to him to the architect Juan Hurtado Manrique, who introduced important changes to the interior of the building, and transformed its façade. The quadrangular building is organized in two levels. Its main entrance leads to a central patio which is delimited by corridors with arches, supported by columns of circular section, which in turn communicate on the ground and upper floors to spaces intended for apartments and lounges. Its main façade was decorated with the incorporation of ornamental elements such as the cornice molding that hid the eaves of the tiled roof, and the doorway lintel with a circular pediment finish. It was declared a National Historical Monument according to Official Gazette No. 31,678. of February 16, 1979. (Original) Construcción colonial de relevancia histórica. Mountain cable car
Estación del Teleférico Antiguo - El Lirón, an iconic station of the Caracas-Litoral Cable Car, was built during Marcos Perez Jimenez's presidency as part of a grand project to link Caracas with the Central Coast. Inaugurated in 1956, it boasted state-of-the-art cabins carrying 25 passengers from 2,160 meters to Macuto in just 20 minutes.
Spectacular ruins of the long-abandoned upper cable car station for the system that ran from the top of the Avila to the coast of La Guaira. The site contains rusting pulleys, pylons and gantries, decomposing cabins, the top station and ruins of other associated buildings. It has a somewhat sombre and eerie feel to it, but is well worth a visit. Allow 30-45 minutes to explore the area and get some spectacular photographs of this historic site.
Richard H — Google review
An interesting place to visit. As soon as you walk downhill for a couple hundred meters you get to see the ruins of what used to be one of the top cable cars stations; it was part of the system that went from La Guaira (and the port and airport area) all the way up to Galipán. It was not reopened, and by now it would be impossible to partially reuse any of the old structures. Once in El Iron, or Liron... You can climb inside some of the old cars, that seem to just be there, as ghost of the past. If you do, close your eyes and picture the grandeur from a time not so long ago. The echoes of time, of a not fully forgotten past still vibrate in the wind.

We are referring to the period of government of General Marcos Pérez Jiménez (1953-1958). This walk is long if you do it walking from the Maripérez station itself passing through the descent that leads to Galipan, therefore you must bring a lot of energy and desire to walk, enjoy the landscape and the minimum route is 3 hours or so walking, go and come at easy steps, prepare for full climbs.
