1Praia da Ilha de Tavira

Public beach
Praia da Ilha de Tavira is a popular sand bar offering ocean swims and beachfront cafes serving delicious seafood. The small town of Tavira, crossed by the Gilao river, has become a tourist hotspot with an array of restaurants, terraces, music festivals, and fairs. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque Roman bridge reflected in the river and explore the Mercado da Ribeira for dining and shopping experiences.
5☆ beach with excellent food and drink facilities. Accessed by local ferry in Tavira or at Quatro Aguas, you then walk across the island to reach the Atlantic coast line and some the most beautiful stretch of white sandy beach in Europe. Being the Atlantic, the water is quite cool, but very clean. Loads of Spaniards travel over at the weekends to come to this beach, even though there are several beach areas just over the border - that's how good it is!
Remy C — Google review
Has many restaurants along the walkway to the beach, but the prices are higher than Tavira, plenty of gazebos for rent on the beach, you can catch the local ferry from the boardwalk in tavira ( 1.50 one way 2.60€ return) beach can get busy during tourist season, try walking along the beach to the train (1.15hr) then catch the bus back into town
Rob — Google review
An amazing beach well worth the visit. The ferry from the town leaves every half hour, takes about 15 mins and it cost €2.20 return. Plenty of restaurants and bars on the island. Nicest restaurant is Ferreira , best toasted sandwich you'll ever taste.
Noelle M — Google review
Get the ferry out to here, book the beach club loungers, enjoy the sun, nap and have lunch! Very relaxing, no hassle and very, very clean 👌 Lovely visit, we will be back on Saturday!!!
Scottieboyuk — Google review
This beach was absolutely stunning — powdery white sand, crystal-clear water, and a relaxed, inviting vibe. There were plenty of sunbeds available to rent at very reasonable prices, which made it easy to spend the whole day soaking up the sun in comfort. Everything about this spot was perfect. We loved every minute of it. 10 out of 10 — a must-visit if you’re in the area!
Dave E — Google review
Beautiful beach and easy to get to by ferry. We were there at the beginning of September so the ferry passed by every 20-30 mins approximately. Cheap and short ride to go there and back. Beach wasn’t too crowded when we went. There are many places to stop by for food or drink and if you want a bit more quietness you can walk further out to where there is less bars.
Carla Y — Google review
A beach of yellow sand stretching for 11 kilometers, and the cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean. What more could one possibly need...
אלון א — Google review
Beautiful beach which was reasonably quiet when we visited out of season with a few cafes and bars still open. It's an easy boat trip from Tavira and then a short walk to the beach on the other side. Plenty of opportunities for bird spotting and nature walks if you don't want to swim or sunbathe. Sunbeds are available for a reasonable fee. Safe gently sloping beach with beautiful soft sand. Great place to spend a sunny day with the last boat off the island highlighted on the jetty to ensure no one misses it. There can be big queues for the return trip so give yourself plenty of time to get back from the beach. Definitely worth a visit.

Outdoor Activities
Praia de Cabanas, also known as Ilha de Cabanas-Mar or simply Cabanas Beach, is a serene and expansive 7-kilometer stretch of unspoiled white sand. Accessible by a short water taxi from the boardwalk of Cabanas, this beach offers tranquility and relaxation for sunbathers. The island has its own amenities including a cafe-bar, showers, toilet facilities, and options to rent sunshades.
I recommend São Tomé The island offers stunning natural beauty, including lush rainforests, pristine beaches, and unique wildlife. It's relatively untouched by mass tourism, making it a peaceful place for relaxation and exploration. However, infrastructure can be underdeveloped, and the language barrier (Portuguese) may pose challenges for some visitors. The local culture is warm and laid-back, but don't expect luxury amenities everywhere. Great for eco-tourists and those looking for an authentic, low-key adventure. I didn’t just travel there without detailed information, all thanks to the author Leo Russo for the São Tomé and principe, your book I purchase on Amazon make my journey within São Tomé and principe smooth, fun and memorable
Eloise H — Google review
The beach itself is very nice but the beach bar is overly expensive. You can have the same beach experience in nearby beaches with better services altogether, including bathrooms.
Matilde R — Google review
A really good clean beach, can get busy in the summer months, especially at the weekends. However we went on the first boat over at 8am (I know, so early!) And it was empty on a Saturday morning, took breakfast with us, perfect! Also you must have the chocolate bolas 🤤
Tegan M — Google review
A beautiful beach and so relaxing listening to the waves.
Michael U — Google review
Beautiful, less touristy beach on a small island just off the mainland. There are several ferry services with the one we chose costing 1.50€ return. You pay to rent the sunbeds and parasols, for May it was 15€ for two people and it goes up in the summer months to around 22.50€. The whole area is gorgeous and much less crowded than other parts of the Algarve, we got the tip to come from a local and happy we did try it out. Good restaurants in the area as well. Would love to have stayed longer.
Joe L — Google review
We had a fantastic day at the beach, we went outside of UK school holidays, and on a week day so there wasn’t many people on the beach, but to hire four sun beds with two umbrellas was under €40 which wasn’t too bad. There is a part of the beach where you don’t have to hire sun beds as well. We had a good day and it’s about a 5 minute walk from the boat pier with raised walk ways and wooden walk ways on the beach. Whilst it didn’t effect me, if you have mobility issues it maybe a bit difficult as there is steps up and down.
Matt D — Google review
Nice beach you need to take a taxi boat which cost us €3 return for two people. You can rent the sun bed with an umbrella if you want. We got our own with us. There’s only one bathroom there.
Sarah G — Google review
Beautiful beach. You must get there by short boat trip across inter coastal, but easy. Beautiful views, outstanding beach.

Beach Terra Estreita is a tranquil, long sandy beach near Tavira, Portugal. Accessible by ferry, it offers sun bed and water-sports rentals along with a cafe/bar. The area boasts 11 kilometers of beaches including Tavira Island, Barril, and Homem Nu. Visitors can enjoy activities like swimming, surfing, paddle boarding, and kayaking.
Beautiful beach, quiet if you'd walk a little way from the main access, getting the ferry is fun and cheap. Soft sand, nice bar and facilities if you want them and less busy than the other local beaches. Sea can be cold but your get over it quickly!
Mark L — Google review
Wonderful beach with fine sands that stretch as far as the eyes can see. Ample shade and chairs for rent with comprehensive snack and drink offerings at the bar.
Amin V — Google review
One of the most amazing beaches in the country. Crystalinne transparent seawater and clear neverending seashore. Reachable only by boat and served by one single bar. The bar mainly works as a conventional sandwich stand selling a fair range of nevertheless very average white bread sandwiches and various drinks.
André L — Google review
A beautiful beach with nice yellow and clean sand. The water is quite cold, but that's expected for the Atlantic ocean. The best way to get here is by ferry from Santa Luzia, but one can also walk from Praia do Barril.
P K — Google review
Brazil on your doorstep. I am tempted to give this a 1 out of 5 just to try and keep praia terra estreita one of Portugal and Europes best kept secret. Quite simply the best beach I've visited, it's location, the small ecological beach bar, clean toilets, unspoilt dunes, the 10 minute ferry ride, all packaged up it is unbeatable.
Austin M — Google review
Divine sandy beach, reached by ferry from Tavira or Santa Luzia, 10€ cash only. Horizon here is so wide you can see the Earth's curvature. Sea temp 19° on 1 September.

Paradise. To hire beds and umbrella here is more expensive than on the Altura to VRSA beaches. Beach bars and toilets are available

Praia dos Tesos is a lesser-known beach near Tavira, offering more than just sun and sand. It's renowned for wildlife sightings and the historic Forte de Santo Antonio de Tavira. While not ideal for swimming due to muddy waters, it's perfect for short walks and observing nature. This small sea beach provides a tranquil environment with clean water and a gentle breeze, making it an excellent spot for family outings.
Beautiful lagoon for swimming and relaxing

What a place!! This beach is truly stunning, Crystal clear waters with an added bonus of experiencing something completely majestic... Sandbanks appearing at low tide!!! Found this place randomly looking across Google maps and boy am I glad we did, so much so we've been twice!! Our first time there we enjoyed the waters and Swam lots, then we watched and marvelled as these Sandbanks appeared out of nowhere.. Honestly its the coolest thing walking on these, knowing that 2 hours ago this was all covered in water and now you can walk on this. When the tide is out you can almost reach the boats In the middle by foot, when the tide is in fully you can still explore up to waist height quite far. Honestly, this place is beautiful you have to visit, small free car park just behind you also, this place felt like a real if you know, you know spot 😉.
Ashley P — Google review
A hidden gem ❤️ We drove there by accident, as the SatNav took us the wrong way. But we were so glad it did! The beach is never really crowded, generally it's full of locals and people coming there to enjoy the clear water and lovely sandy beach. Pitch at the back of the beach to avoid the tide and soak up the wonderful atmosphere. Wholeheartedly recommended... nós amamos Portugal! ❤️
Rich C — Google review
Nice beach with shallow water, sandbanks at low tide, flamingos in salt beds on the way there.
Paul M — Google review
Its a awesome small sea beach just beside the main one. Although cant go to main big one, need to ga back main city to buy billet for ferry to go main beach. But from this beach can sunset and take a bath with family. Clean water and windy environment makes this place fantastic. Sad, shop nearby only Continente few KM's away from the beach.
MD.Rifatul I — Google review
A very quiet, undeveloped beach. It's sheltered so there aren't any big waves. Our kid had a great time splashing around and watching the small fish in the water.

Cabanas de Tavira is a charming coastal village located on the eastern side of Tavira Island. It boasts a long stretch of beach and a picturesque waterfront where fishing boats can be seen anchored in the Ria Formosa. The village has its origins in tuna fishing and maintains its traditional charm. A short ferry ride from Cabanas takes visitors to the pristine Praia de Cabanas, known for its relaxing ambiance and lined with cafes and restaurants.
Nice village with great esplanade to walk along the water's edge. Ample restaurants and parking. The beach is literally across the lagoon by boat, approximately 2€ return.

Scared to say I like it because want to keep it all to ourselves. Non-resort holiday location. Plenty of bars and restaurants, but very understated. We love it so much we go every year. We go to other places too, but we need our annual fix of this gem - we love the place and the people.
Rachel L — Google review
Cabanas is a lovely, quiet resort with lots of restaurants, cafes and bars and we’re looking forward to going back soon. We particularly liked to go for a drink at Nuno’s bar every night as he is always smiling and my husband says he does the best pint! Lots of locals there every night so you know it must be good.

Praia do Lacém Mar is a small lagoon beach surrounded by farmland, vineyards, and dryland orchards. Accessible via a footpath alongside a stream with thick riverside vegetation, it features low-lying dunes and European beachgrass. This beautiful sandy beach on the edge of Ria Formosa dunes offers a 5 km walk from Praia Cabanas through Lacem Mar to Cacela Velha peninsula.
Quiet and beautiful. Not many people which is always good. You can walk to the beach but be careful not to get stuck on the ocean side once the tide comes in. Parking is very difficult and the road to it is dirt and bumpy.

(Translated by Google) The warmest water in Portugal, without a doubt, at around 4-5pm the water is so warm that it feels like you are in a warm bath. Really great! Be careful!!! Anyone who comes for a walk from the Manta Rota and Fábrica beaches to Lacém Mar beaches may get stuck on a sand island. Whenever the tide rises, it creates strong currents that prevent you from getting back to Fábrica beach. If you intend to stay on this beach, you will have to move before the tide has completely risen. The passage is dangerous even for those who know how to swim, because in addition to being deep, the current can defeat anyone. If you don't know how to swim, or don't trust it, don't risk it. There is parking right next to the beach, heading north, from the viewpoint of this beach.

Beaches
Praia do Barril is a charming beach located near the historic town of Tavira in the eastern Algarve region of Portugal. This family-friendly destination offers long stretches of white sand, calm and clear waters perfect for swimming, and picturesque dunes. The area's rich fishing history is reflected in the old tuna-boat anchors that adorn the beach and the converted fishermen's cottages that now house cafes and restaurants.
Perhaps my favourite beach. Peaceful in May, then again from September. The train ride is fun but isn't such a big walk to get to the beach from the bridge. (The naturist beach is another 20-25 minute walk.)
Mátyás S — Google review
Amazing beach. Clear water and suitable for all ages. Water was fantastic and warm. Early June. Bodyguards are available on the beach. White soft sand, sand ocean floor and very clean. Park at the road. And you have to walk around 300/400meter to get the train to take you for the rest of the way. Walking is around 1.1km to the beach. Lovely walk and paved. There are couple of bars, restaurants. Public toilets, single shower booth inside male's WC, 1euro for a minute/or two for warm water. Highly recommend..
Darkwing318 — Google review
You can catch the train to the beach or walk there. It's aprox. a 20min walk with plenty of shade! I would say the price and waiting time for the train isn't worth an every-day trip - I would, however, recommend catching the train for a cute experience. There are multiple parking spots along the riverside, but I recommend going early in the morning, before 10am, to get a parking spot near the beginning of the trail. The bars and restaurants in the beach are very affordable, considering their lication! The bathrooms are super clean, always with a cleaning lady. Regarding wheelchair accessibility, there is a part in the train for wheelchair users. Although the wooden track to the beach may be hard, there is a water wheelchair, that let's you enjoy the sea as well!
Matilde R — Google review
Loved this beach! The sea was quite clear and you also have the opportunity to get a little train that takes you to the beach instead of walking the pathway. The anchors are definitely immpressive giving the whole beach a unique character. We were in Tavira and just took an uber to Santa Luzia for under €10. The train ride was €2 to go or €4 with return - however on our return there was such a massive crowd that we decided to just walk and it was very lovely so I recommend trying both:)
Daphne — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches in Algarve. You can reach it by foot ( 20 min walk from the entrance) or by 'chuchu' train (4 € round trip). By the beach a restaurant, great ice cream, wc'c and showers, and on the beach ⛱️ areas, priced by 1 or 1/2 day stay, areas for people with their own ⛱️ and waste, white sand beach left and right. Life guards watch over you. No dogs allowed. Along the path pass the swamp area you will find benches to rest on. And great eco posters on local fauna and flora, as well as ocean protection.
Gosia K — Google review
We enjoyed the walk across the marshlands and the beach with the anchors was lovely too. The air has a lovely spice aroma of curry from the fields of curry flowers.
Aleja R — Google review
Great beach. You can get there with a train or by foot. The train is 4€/person/2 way.

Really beautiful beach. Big waves so be careful when going in the water. Especially coming out its hard and the waves crash into you hard. Also we took the train that brought us there, you can walk but it’s a little over 1km. The ticket is 2 euros one way.

Xiri Beach Bar is a stunning spot with plenty of room for everyone. You can rent sunbeds for a good deal, as the money can be used towards food and drinks at the bar. The beach shack offers generous and tasty toasties, cold draught beer, and reasonably priced items like Sagres beer and ice cream. The staff is welcoming and friendly, providing amazing service. It's considered the best spot to hang out on Tavira Island with fantastic drinks and snacks.
Peace of heaven. This place is magical. People are really nice, the food and drinks are very good, you can chose healthy and local options. The spot is amazing, the Sunsets parties great, we can’t never get tired of Xiri ! I feel like I’m in a California beach, much more better (Portugal rules) 💛🌞🌊

Looks great, trying hard to get the beach club look with lots of uniformed young staff who for some odd reason just ignore you; despite the queues! The manager is glued to his phone but blanks your attempts to attract attention. Could be great but needs much better management and training.

Spent the whole day here with a group of friends. Music was very quiet could have had a speaker closer to the front row. Had table service on the beach sunbeds we rented for 16 euros during the day but found it hard to get waiters attention. Would benefit from having a QR system to order food/ drinks from. Cash only to pay for the sunbed!

The best octopus I’ve ever had—and I’m a real fan. Everything was excellent. Service was outstanding, with everyone kind and quick. Beautiful background music, lovely décor, and an unbeatable location. I had read many comments about unpleasant service, but that was not my experience at all. Perhaps it helped that my boyfriend, although French, made the effort to say a sentence in Portuguese? A little note for tourists there. As for prices, yes, they are higher than the average restaurant in Portugal, but two things should be kept in mind: this is an island, where logistics are more complex, and the gastronomic level is truly high. If you want to pay regular Portugal prices, then a beach shack with sardines and paper tablecloths will probably be a better fit.
Verónica R — Google review
Service was exemplary, could not of asked for better service, served in good time, always with a smile. Staff were helpful and fantastic. Plus the best spot on tavira island

I expected a museum about the history of the region and town, but this "Palace Galeria" building is, rather, (1) upstairs, a gallery space, currently exhibiting the excellent photography of Fernando Ricardo (October 2023) and (2) excavated pits from the 6th-7th centuries, viewable through glass floor panels (which need cleaning!). Entry fee for 65+ is only 1 Euro.
Laura C — Google review
Interesting place to visit for free. Learned some interesting things about the history of this area. You also have a beautiful point of view of the town. Worths your time!
Raul G — Google review
Museum of nothing. If 3€ is too heavy in your wallet you can spend it here. Otherwise, visiting doesn’t make much sense.
Krystian C — Google review
Awesome museum for 2 euros! The buildings are large, beautiful and with a/c! I especially enjoyed the Mediterranean Diet exhibit.
Paul S — Google review
Tavira Museum / Palace Galeria was a strange museum. There were some exhibitions about winemaking and other agricultural pursuits, and information about the Algarve region. There was also an exhibition of paintings by a contemporary artist. The roof has some nice views over the town of Tavira
T H — Google review
Smaller city museum. Good graphics and signage. Worth a visit.
Steve R — Google review
A small museum with some wonderful exhibitions and views of the city.

Restaurant
Cabanas Beach is a hidden gem nestled along one of the Algarve's most picturesque Gold Flag beaches. This stunning locale not only boasts breathtaking views but also features a delightful restaurant that serves an array of mouthwatering dishes crafted by skilled chefs. The relaxed vibe at Cabanas Beach makes it an ideal spot for enjoying leisurely meals or celebrating special occasions like anniversaries and birthdays.
A Hidden Gem by the Sea! I had the pleasure of dining at Cabanas Beach Restaurant during a recent trip, and it exceeded all expectations. The location is simply stunning—right by the water with a relaxed, beachy vibe and breathtaking sunset views. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The menu offers a great variety of fresh seafood, local dishes, and even some international options. I tried the grilled sea bass and it was perfectly cooked—flaky, flavorful, and accompanied by delicious seasonal vegetables. The atmosphere is relaxed but refined, making it ideal for both a romantic dinner or a casual lunch after the beach. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and outstanding location. Highly recommended if you're in the Tavira area—don’t miss it!
Paul P — Google review
Very nice place with very nice food. It was clean, cozy and the service was friendly. Highly recommend if you are in the area! The only thing is, is that it’s the only restaurant on the beach side so can be quite busy and a bit of a wait for the food, but 100% worth it.
Femke S — Google review
Nice beach front restaurant, very open and with good views. The prices are a little high but it's location can explain that. The beach itself is wonderful. Long stretches of white sand and beautiful clean water!
Stephen R — Google review
The only second star is for the location but quality of this place is to be avoided! The chef in the kitchen should be ashamed to call himself a chef, no pride or shame. We will never be back here, a total ripoff
Fenna R — Google review
Intended to have lunch before an afternoon on the beach. Most food wasn't available and was very overpriced so we just had a drink and one of our party went back to the mainland to get a picnic. Our order had included 2 pints/50cl of cider but we were served 30cl glasses which also included ice which we accepted until they tried to charge us €6.20 for each pint! After a not so friendly discussion on their part the bill was adjusted. Still our most expensive drink but to be expected on the only beach bar/restaurant. I definitely wouldn't go back until they sort themselves out. Another day we just took drinks and a picnic with us which was much better experience.
Amanda H — Google review
Avoid the restaurant, really poor quality majorly overpriced. The location is great but other than that the service and food quality is beyond poor. How can a chef have any pride in sending out this type of food. We will NOT be back.
Jeroen V — Google review
We didn’t buy any food or drinks here as we walked through to get to the beach. Only used the showers to wash sand off the children. There is a coin slot in the shower for single € coins, don’t forget it as you’ll get about a minute or so of cold water to wash the sand off.
Matt D — Google review
Definitely in my top 5 meals of all time. The clams and the white wine Sangria are amazing. Very very chill.

Ferry service
Cais das Quatro Águas is a charming spot in Tavira, Portugal, where you can catch ferries year-round to Ilha de Tavira. During the summer months, ferries depart from the center of Tavira as well. It's also possible to walk to Praia do Barril beach, which is about 5km away. Visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee here and take a boat to the beach.
After cycling from Olhão in the heat, this place is delightful. Draught beer. Tasty snacks served promptly. Super views over the estuary, plenty of shade. Pleasant staff. Nearby toilets and other restaurants. A stones throw from the ferry and ticket booth. Three of the photos show the ferry point on Tavira island itself.
Mark C — Google review
No ferry everything shut. obviously not in March. Nice walk from Tavira, though
Adrian B — Google review
Beautiful beach chest a 10-minute drive to the ferry from Tavira. Just a 5-minute ride on the ferry and a 5-minute walk to the beach. The beach goes on endless for many kilometers. Beautiful sand. Wonderful water. Many restaurants and bars to relax in after a day in the Sun.
Terrence S — Google review
Nice little ferry ride out to the island. You can walk or drive but for €2.20 return why not relax a bit on this journey. It takes about 20-25 minutes and just gives you a different perspective on the town.
Dave — Google review
We had drinks here after a private catamaran Sailing tour. Simple local bar but very fun vibe after a day at sea. Everything was good 👌
Robbe B — Google review
We hired Maria's and her Tuk Tuk to show us around Tavira, Portugal. Although Maria is French, her knowledge of Tavira and Portugal is very good and at €50 for 3 people was good value. The tour lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes.
ANIL J — Google review
A beautiful spot for a meal or a sunrise walk. Also a great spot to catch the ferry to Ilha Tavira.
Steven R — Google review
Best place to go to the island of Tavira, parking available, free and paid. Boat fees are less then from Tavira but most important, going back, you pass by the line of waiting people for the ferry to Tavira, and that line could be Easy hundreds...also there are bars and restaurants so you can wait for the ferry in some comfort

Bus company
Bus Station Tavira is a small local station located near a beautiful plaza, offering convenient access to and from Lisbon or Faro. It serves as a transfer point for both local and international buses, including services from Spain. The station is conveniently situated within walking distance of the town, river, bars, and restaurants. Visitors can purchase bus cards for cost savings and use credit cards for payment. The station also offers clean facilities and a variety of snacks and drinks for travelers' convenience.
There is only one window in use now which is a pity, but the lady is helpful and speaks English. Screens show the bus times. It would be an improvement if they also displayed which bay to get the bus too though. There is seating available inside and at the bus bays.
Stephen L — Google review
Not maintained and neglected. No sign to tell you this is the bus station. Cracks in walls and on floor, graffiti on benches, super dirty windows, no signs or monitors inside or outside. The front entrance was still locked at 9:30a.m. had to go through bleak, grotty and unmarked side entrance. This station is right on the river and has a beautiful view of the town and roman bridge. It is a shame the town puts a large concrete block of a building to house buses on the move right on the waterfront and then neglects it to this degree...what a sad use of prime public space. Easy access from centre of Tavira...only a 5 minute walk
Julie I — Google review
Easy to walk to from CBD, has toilets, seats and is indoor/outdoor seating , you can catch the 105 bus to the island train ride.
Rob — Google review
A small local bus Station, beside a beautiful placa, i use to use this staion to come from Lisbon or Faro. Also International bus like Alsa from Spain, receive the station.
MD.Rifatul I — Google review
On a holiday there was nobody at all there, to provide information, and the info on buses to Lisboa (schedules, contact numbers) is non-existant, although the closed booths are covered in paper. Useless. Had to search online for the Rede Expressos calling centre.
Paula V — Google review
Not bad as a bus station goes . Wouldn't advise using the toilets , by far the worst I've seen in a long time .

Went to get the bus to Cacela, tickets more expensive than train. The bus came in 12 mins late, we joined the back of the queue, people got off, couple of people got on then the bus driver shook his head at the next people and drove off....we went to ask the lady what was happening and to get our money back but she said no could only stamp our tickets for the next bus 2 hours later!! Missed our lunch reservation with friends. Wouldn't get bus again, trains cheaper and much more efficient.

Trilho do Barril is a hidden gem located not too far from the car park, with a fascinating history of the Anchor Graveyard and informative boards about Tuna Fishermen. The beach offers a wide expanse and a tranquil atmosphere, making it perfect for leisurely walks or enjoying a meal at quality restaurants. It's also possible to walk for kilometers along the beach, with an option to visit the naturist area.
Huge wide beach and not too long a walk from the car park which was free when we visited. There is the Anchor Graveyard of which the history is very interesting. There are several boards around the cafe full of information about the Tuna Fishermen. If you turn right on the beach I believe you can walk for a few kilometres and you come to the naturist area. One of the largest beaches we have been on and practically deserted when we visited in January. Definitely worth a visit.
Derek V — Google review
Truly enjoyable and peaceful walk. During high wind even more spectacular but exhausting.

A real hidden gem of a place, we found it when driving out from Lagos for a day out in Tavira, we actually preferred the beach/beach walk/meal on the beach/quality restaurants/take a trip back on the train whole experience. We ate at the Museu do Atun restaurant, the meal was more enjoyable than many we have eaten in Lagos. This made for a very lovely and enjoyable day for us.
