In the center of Porto Alegre, this is a huge building meant to be a space for several cultural activities. Anyway, if you want you can hang out there, have something to drink or eat. It is worth a visit.

The Porto Alegre Public Market, established in 1869, is a historic landmark featuring over 100 vendors offering a wide array of goods such as crafts, produce, snacks, and plants. It's a must-visit destination in the city along with other attractions like the Usina do Gasometro cultural center and scenic spots like Marinha do Brasil Park and Farroupilha Park. The market is known for its Brazilian food and crafts.
Lovely old fashion building done in the format of many european markets with lots of well stocked stalls from the mundane to great delicatessen. Worth a visit plus make sure after this you walk towards the river where you can take catamara to Barra Shopping or to Guati for just over 10R or else an hour trip looking at all tourist sights with a different company for 30R cash or 35 if you pay with credit card. Either worth making the time to do as gives you a unique perspective of this gorgeous clean air city.

Very cool place and pretty massive. Spanning two floors and plenty of shops ranging from groceries to restaurants, fresh fish to nuts and spices. It even had an antique fair and collectibles shops. You will always find something for yourself here.

One of the best places visited in Porto Alegre. Plenty of restaurants, good food, drinks and all that a good market must have, inside a historical building. This placeud a must when visit Porto Alegre

Always a cultural experience being in any public market. 20th year since my first visit here. Survivor of fires and floods. Muito gente...
Mike S — Google review
Old building very not well taken care of. There are independent fish markets (complete with the authentic Yelling) and health food stores, but the rest is mediocre cafes, overpriced sit down food, mediocre padarias, insanity of panhandling and graffiti outside. Only reason I would come back is if- IF- I wanted fish from the fishmonger, Cafe do Mercado (also exists praia de belas) or Temakieria.

I can't believe I lived in Porto Alegre for 3 years before visiting this jewel! Come here first if you're looking for artesenal gifts or souvenirs that are unique and truly reflect Porto Alegre. It's also a great place just to pass the day. Lot's to see, tons of restaurant options, clearly a popular spot in the city, for shopping, walking, running, or just getting some air.
Stephanie F — Google review
It's a beautiful and quite big park. Locals love to go on weekends and I would recommend to tourist do the same. The park is fun this days when is full of people, but can be quite dangerous the other days of the week. Here you can be robbed even with violence, so try to not go alone. Same applies to the city in general. Try to stay just were is other people and you will see just the nicer face of the city.

The Rio Grande do Sul Museum of Art is a must-visit attraction in the state, showcasing the works of regional artists. Housed in a neoclassical building, it stands out amidst modern architecture. The museum has been a prominent venue for local artists since its establishment in 1954 and relocation to its current location in the late 1970s. Visitors can also enjoy amenities such as a cafe, book store, and gift shop on-site.
Outside this Art Museum is an ongoing event with expositions about indigenous culture going on this am.

A very big place. I am sure there are times where it merits more than the three stars i am giving it. But unfortunately the art that was displayed during our visit was underwhelming and disappointing. It fid seem like the place that would hold different exhibitions and always change what it holds as seasons pass, so i can't judge it more harshly.
Ricardo K — Google review
When I went it was filled almost completely with modern art, which is not my cup of tea. Building is beautiful though.

Loved this museum. The place is full of interesting stuff like a very old car, artifacts and even canons. I also really enjoyed the outdoor displays. Free entrance, so go visit if in the area.

One of the most enchanting and unassuming museums I have ever been to charting the history of Porto Alegre, and in particular Rio Grande do Sul in its finest details regarding wars and settlement. Not to be missed. Above all a free entry Museum one will be more than willing to pay for.Perhaps the most fascinating exhibits of early amerindian art i.e. masks and pottery I have ever seen. A real Jewel in a gorgeous city.
Salvador M — Google review
The museum itself is not particularly impressive, but the building is really nice and somewhat unique among all the surrounding high-rises. There is little to connect or contextualise the various objects, but in a way there are also some signs of care in the way the whole thing is kept.
Candida L — Google review
Bare exhibits. Doesn't cover any real history in the exhibits and has very little on the Ragamuffin War. It's not what I expected based on the website. Disappointing.
UnTraiNd — Google review
Super cool free to enter museum. There is a lot of information about the regions recent and pre historic past. Free to visit, very nice for a weekend visit.
Matias S — Google review
The four stars are for the building. There are some cool historical objects here, especially from the Guarani in the Seven Missions area. As a history nut I was very excited to visit this museum but, unfortunately, it is half-abandoned, like many others in Brazil. Next to the cathedral and Marechal Deodoro Park. Free entry, so definitely worth the visit.
Joffre S — Google review
A lot of history badly presented. Some rooms are almost bare and the more interesting exhibits are in darkness. In need of someone with vision to bring it to life. Better use of space, decent lighting, a café and a shop would help.
Derek S — Google review
(Translated by Google) It displays objects that are significant to the history of RIO GRANDE DO SUL that could easily be more prominent. Perhaps in better-arranged niches, with objective information using totems, videos accompanied by headphones, focused lighting to enhance the collection... I don't know! In any case, it has attentive and friendly staff, clean facilities, and a strategically located address, close to other points of tourist interest in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. (Original) Exibe objetos significativos para a história do RIO GRANDE DO SUL que bem poderiam ter mais destaque. Iguatemi in Porto Alegre is a decent place to do shopping full of nice brands and good choice of products. As far as this is a capital city and this is a big shopping mall the prices here could be really competitive than at another shopping centres. There is a very unique chemical clock made up from pipes and pumps wich pumping a liquids through these pipes and show on the scale the real time. (Translated by Google) The Porto Alegre Joaquim José Felizardo Museum was created in 1979 with the purpose of gathering historical and cultural material from the city. It is located in an old colonial mansion at 582 João Alfredo Street, in the Cidade Baixa neighborhood of Porto Alegre. It preserves a huge collection composed of more than 1,300 objects from the 19th and 20th centuries, which includes accessories, decorative objects, musical instruments, furniture and clothing and around 200,000 items related to different groups that occupied the region since the pre-colonial period, such as collections of ceramic, lithic, bone and other objects, from areas of indigenous occupation prior to the arrival of the colonizers, in addition to collections from sites occupied between the 18th and 20th centuries, with pieces produced in china, glass, metal, leather, stone, bones, ceramics, human and food skeletal remains. It also houses around 9,000 images of Porto Alegre from the 19th and 20th centuries, with the most different aspects of the city over time and a collection of over 400 postcards from the first decades of the 20th century. In addition to long-term and short-term exhibitions, the Museum offers courses, lectures, workshops and hosts other cultural activities. The place needs a little more care and, given its historical importance, it should be better preserved. I also found the service somewhat disinterested and impersonal. The Science and Technology Museum is a captivating learning center that offers interactive science experiments and permanent fossil displays. Located within the Usina do Gasometro Cultural Center in Porto Alegre, it occupies the historic space of an old thermoelectric plant. The museum spans three floors and features an array of exhibits, including works, sculptures, and historical insights into renowned figures in Brazil. Visitors can explore various aspects of science through fun interactive experiments, making it an ideal destination for both children and adults alike.
one of the most amazing museums I have ever been in Brazil. It's guaranteed fun. You can go either alone or take the children with you. Lots of science toys, games and plays. I do recommend it.
Rodrigo G — Google review
Firstly, you pay $30 for adults and $15 for students. Also, $20 for parking if you stay around 3 to 4 hours (borderline ridiculous!). Secondly, it's called a museum of sciences and technology, but the forgot to add "20 years ago" to the name. I literally have been to the museum 20 years ago and it is 90% the same... Very disappointing for an institution that is incredibly rich. It's administration abandoned the place, which has 20% of the exposition with an "out of order sign" and outdated knowledge, for example, the tongue flavour region, which has been debunked for ages. Nothing is new or amazingly interesting. Most interactive stands are good old physics or mechanics based. If you're under 10, it's awesome because you can touch stuff. If you're an adult, it's sadly outdated. I still cannot believe that they haven't changed most of it from 20 years ago. That's irresponsible. They should keep up with new technology and science knowledge that is always being updated. So, yes, take the kids, but then write an email to the administration asking for them to stop sipping martinis, get their act together and fix that museum. It's a great place and this town deserves to have it. In summary, I was disappointed because I grew up going to that museum and could see the decline of it. You may not think it's that bad, besides the parking, which is not fair. I recommend going once... and that's it.

It is a fantastic place to visit, it is a large museum with works and sculptures out of the ordinary, with a lot of history, I liked the place where they explain the lives of many renowned people in Brazil, each section very interesting, science, technological advances and the interactive part, in a more playful way, is very entertaining. I was surprised with this place. A great opportunity and environment to teach them different aspects of science with fun interactive experiments. The sections of the human body, energy and sound are very complete arouses the interest of children, young people and adults. The museum is spectacular, with many areas of knowledge and interaction. Everything is very well exposed, you can see the interest of encouraging young students in science, and the challenge lies in understanding what has been exposed, the objective is very well achieved, and there are many well-instructed and well-disposed personnel to teach. Place opens your mind, you lose track of time because everything that is there is too interesting. You can spend a pleasant afternoon and learning how many of the exact sciences work, it is charming and very funny, it is very worth it, in fact it is highly recommended it is an unavoidable visit

Fun museum, especially with children. There are multiple interactive expositions, with written explanations. There are also some guides to help you out. Go with shows if you want to go to the gyroscope (?) at the ground floor. Sometimes it can be crowded due to school tours, so in the weekend is usually a better time to visit. You can leave and comeback in the same day, so I recommended lunching at some restaurant at pucrs, like the one in the building 40.

(Translated by Google) The Ruben Berta Art Gallery is housed in a historic mansion located at 973 Duque de Caxias Street in the Historic Center of Porto Alegre. It was built in 1893 and modified in 1916 and was listed in 2012 by the Municipal Department of Culture of Porto Alegre. Rubem Berta was a pioneer in commercial aviation in Brazil, director of VARIG and volunteer collaborator of Chateaubriand in transporting collections to their destinations. The origin of the Art Gallery dates back to the 1960s, the result of a personal project by communications magnate Assis Chateaubriand to create regional museums in various parts of the country. To build this rich collection, Chateaubriand had the collaboration of art critic, dealer and mentor of the São Paulo Museum of Art, Pietro Maria Bardi. The collection houses 125 works that present a heterogeneous composition. The work Rejalma, from 1673 by the Dutch artist Jeronimus Van Diest, is the oldest painting in the public collection in Rio Grande do Sul. The collection also includes renowned names in national painting such as Almeida Júnior, Pedro Américo, João Batista da Costa, Eliseu Visconti and other masters of national importance, with several quality foreign creations, especially examples of British Pop art, by Alan Davie, Allen Jones, Neville King, Peter Behan and Graham Sutherland, among others. So it can be said that the collection offers the opportunity to glimpse a historical panorama and styles of Brazilian art, particularly in the 20th century.

(Translated by Google) It wasn't good. I called today, January 17th, at around 10:15 a.m. to get information about Ney Lisboa's show tonight at 9 p.m., and no one could tell me. The operator put me through to the communication line, which didn't know anything. They called back to the operator named Camila, who had already answered me. She put me through to another phone number, which rang and no one was there. I called again and no one could give me any information. If there is communication, it should have the house's agenda available for the day. The boss, Mr. Inocêncio, was not in his office. I would like to take this opportunity to suggest the following to the new government and to the old and new deputies who were reelected or elected by the people: Cut back on high pensions and high salaries. Since we have had access to the data, I have found in just one sheet that there was a civil servant with a pension of almost R$60,000. So there must be a lot of bigwigs getting rich at our expense! After all, public management (the judiciary, legislative and executive branches) is not there to enrich themselves at the expense of the people. The legislative and judiciary branches were given a salary adjustment at the beginning of the last government, as they already earn a lot. The executive branch, which has to take care of health, education, public safety, social welfare... which works directly with the population, received nothing. I'm not complaining about that, we already know that we won't get any salary adjustments in the new government either. However, if nothing is done about high salaries and high pensions, at any moment, the people who don't have decent access to health care in particular will rebel. This is a warning from a civil servant who has worked in the management of the SUS for almost 18 years and who saw not only the reduction in hospital funding, but also cuts to the budgets of hospitals. I am in favor of what Portugal did, which cut 30% of everyone's salaries, which here in RS, should be graduates, those who earn a lot should cut more, and those who earn little, such as teachers, should not be cut at all.

This cathedral reminds the Sacre Coeur from Paris, because situated on the hill and has a long stairs which lead to inside it, also because of white colour of walls. Inside this is more ascetic and no so big as it looks from outside. But very recommended to visit together with our sightseeing in Porto Alegre.

(Translated by Google) I don't like the wall either. It deprives the people of Rio Grande do Sul of access to the pier. Old, deactivated pavilions make Porto Alegre's postcard look ugly. They could build a shopping mall or restaurants or condominiums on top of a commercial complex, like the promise made in 2010 by all the candidates for governor that they would revitalize it by the 2014 World Cup and build another subway. They didn't even have the capacity to fix the aeromóvel near the gasometer that has been there since 1990 to attract more tourists for the 2016 Olympics. In short, the city is not evolving. São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have train and subway networks. Here, there is only one line with 22 stations. The city is old and outdated, and the buses are old and have no air conditioning for over 10 years. It's embarrassing to be a Gaucho.
