Located in Hamilton, New Zealand, Grosvenor Motor Inn offers simple studios and apartments in a relaxed setting with free parking and Wi-Fi. Housed in an Edwardian-style building, this inn is ideal for families with its practical rooms and facilities including a communal hot tub, swimming pool, and a restaurant. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds, air conditioning, fridge, tea/coffee facilities, and modern bathrooms. The renovated rooms are clean and equipped with all necessary amenities.
I had a look at some of the reviews and some good and some bad. At the end of the day, I chose it for location and price, and it delivered on both. The room had been renovated, and the large shower was awesome and powerful. May want to check temperature as hot was scolding (dangerous for kids) Even though room was renovated did still have a slightly weird smell to it but I'm not going to knock it as for what I paid, it was extremely good value. A+++

My wife and I had a wonderful stay. The rooms were clean and tidy. Every thing worked and the shower pressure was great as well. This is not always the case in other places we stayed. The service was great and the staff friendly. We arrived very late and the manager was there to help me with the lock box. Service beyond the call of duty. 10 / 10

My partner and I absolutely love this place to stay. We have been here several times now in both spa and non spa suites. The service is always lovely 😍 there is ample parking also. We have tried many other well rated places in hamilton and had no end of trouble at them. This place we have never had any issues !!! We will be choosing the Grosvenor Motor Inn for all our stays from now on.

Recently needed a room in Hamilton on short notice. Decided to book this one based on locality & bus route to Waikato hosp. Everything was spotless and welcoming atmosphere. Studio room was spacious & all I needed. Reception person very friendly as well. Will definitely return there if needed.

wow! Incredible service, easily the best I have ever experienced. Very kind staff and genuine people! Highly recommend :) I asked if I could have a turn adjusting their Vacancy sign and they were more than happy for me to have a turn. Lovely hotel, everyone should stay here.

Our stay at Grosvenor Motor Inn was amazing. The staff are polite, friendly and helpful. The room (including the bed/linen), bathroom, fridge, cutlery and crockery were spotless. Not a hair in sight, no garbage or dust bunnies under the beds, no finger prints or uncleanness on the cutlery or crockery. Yes I am very critical. The pressure of the water in the shower and the hot water are amazing. Just be careful the hot water will scold if turned up too much. We have stayed in many motels through North and South Island and can’t recommend the Grosvenor more. Your stay will be enjoyable. We will be back to stay the next time we are passing through or staying in Hamilton. Thank you to the management and staff for making our stay a real pleasure.

Stayed for two nights no complaints. Heat pumps great, small fridge in the room works. Clean room, cheap, inexpensive, friendly staff and great location close to the cbd.

We have stayed here about five times now & keep coming back when we need accommodation in Hamilton. Rooms are clean & the staff are friendly. Just under $200 for one night for four adults & one nine year old. Thanks for the stay, we will be back again.

Experience the cozy warmth of Heartland Ambassador Hotel Hamilton, a relaxed accommodation with an outdoor pool and convenient amenities such as breakfast, parking, and Wi-Fi. Situated just a short stroll from Seddon Park and FMG Stadium in Hamilton's city center, this hotel by the Scenic Hotel Group offers a peaceful retreat away from the city's hustle and bustle. Guests can enjoy spacious rooms with options ranging from Standard to Superior, including the contemporary open-plan design of the Superior Plus Studio Suite.
We enjoyed our stay as a family in the 2 bedroom unit. We had our 2 grandchildren and our daughter stay with us. The unit was big enough for us all, the main lounge had a heatpump as did the main bedroom. The outdoor pool and hot tub looked amazing at night but no one was going to brave the cold and try it. (Oddly a couple of youngsters did just that at 9am in the morning, Crazy! 🥶) The kitchen was basic but had everything we needed. The unit was dated but clean, the pillows, linen and towels were super crisp and clean 👌 There was a 32" TV in the lounge area with SKY however strangely there was no TV in the main king bedroom would have loved to have at least the 32" in the room and maybe a 43"or 50" in the lounge. We selected the bed and breakfast option and the Hostess who was part chinese and Thai was super welcoming and the hot breakfast and cereals with all the fruits etc were all there. The price was the best in Hamilton we could fine for our whole family, so I believe we got great value, excellent service, good variety for breakfast and the option for a later check out was greatly appreciated. I would recommend this hotel definitely (also pak n sav is just across the road so you don't need to pack food just check n a walk across and grab what you need) super convenient. Thank you we will be back!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 – Great Room and Breakfast, Just Missing Dinner Option We had a very comfortable stay at the Heartland Ambassador Hotel. The room was clean, spacious, and well presented — definitely one of the highlights. The hallways to the rooms were a bit tired and could do with an update, but the rooms themselves made up for it. The pool and spa looked nice, although we didn’t get a chance to use them. Breakfast at the on-site restaurant was excellent with a good variety and friendly service. It would’ve been even better if the restaurant was also open for dinner, as that would have made things more convenient. Overall, a great stay with just a couple of minor things. We’d happily return.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Heartland Ambassador Hotel in Hamilton and was thoroughly impressed. From the moment I arrived, the experience was seamless and welcoming. The front desk staff greeted me with a warm and friendly smile, and the check-in process was quick and efficient, which was a huge relief after a long journey. My room was a perfect blend of comfort and convenience. It was exceptionally clean and well-maintained, with a modern decor that felt both stylish and relaxing. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. I particularly appreciated the thoughtful touches, like the complimentary tea and coffee, and a spacious desk that was perfect for getting some work done. The bathroom was spotless and had all the amenities I needed. The hotel's location is a major highlight. It's perfectly situated, offering easy access to the city center and other local attractions. I found it to be a fantastic base for exploring everything Hamilton has to offer. The on-site facilities were also excellent, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was peaceful and quiet, making it a great retreat. What truly set this stay apart was the consistently high level of service. Every staff member I encountered, from housekeeping to the front desk, was professional, courteous, and genuinely committed to making my stay as pleasant as possible. Their dedication to guest satisfaction was clear in every interaction. I would highly recommend the Heartland Ambassador Hotel to anyone visiting Hamilton, whether for business or leisure. It's a fantastic hotel that provides great value, exceptional service, and a truly comfortable stay.

The rooms are dated and need a refresh. The Hotel is located on the corner of two busy streets and there is constant road noise. The wifi also does not work well in rooms far away from reception. Rooms were clean and tidy. Would have been nice ro have a microwave oven

Perfect for a family stay. Great pool and jacuzzi. Very neat clean and tidy. Room serviced daily - beds made and drinks refreshed - nice touch. Lovely staff from reception to the barista. My husband said repeatedly he loved the coffee!! Great location close to so many things.

The Room was lovely. The shower over Bath was a lovely bonus. Only disappointment was the outdoor pool is not heated as advertised. They have a Barrel Spa in pool area which is lovely but the pool itself is not heated.

Nice and tidy room, super comfortable and were very pleased with it! Location only 4 stars, good location to everything - the traffic is just loud at times. Overall very pleasant and would stay again!

Best service, both receptionists upon check in and check out were delightful to deal with. The rooms were nice and clean, with the comfiest beds and pillows! Exceptional stay!

Ramada by Wyndham Hamilton City Center offers a range of accommodations, from casual rooms to studios and 1- to 2-bedroom apartments in a historic 19th-century building. While some guests noted limitations such as noise from the surrounding area, limited free parking, and lack of certain amenities in the rooms, many appreciated the hotel's central location with numerous restaurants nearby. The staff was described as helpful and the rooms were generally clean.
This was literally the best hotel room I have ever stayed in. They even had a bath tub in the room. Fantastic view of city streets. Great 24 x 7 service, and wasn’t asked for a deposit on the room. And awesome free secure parking.
John S — Google review
My room was clean but really dated and small rooms. for the cost I was expecting at least a bit more. Shower floor really slippery I think due to what the use to wash floor, mold on blinds and windows but bed comfy, sheets clean, basic TV channels but as I was there for work it ticked the location box and was clean. Breakfast at Sister Fields was great.

Great location well priced for a very busy weekend in Hamilton. We had a two bedroom apartment. Very clean and tidy spacious as well excellent facilities. Unfortunately sound travels and you can hear every footstep in the hallway throughout the whole night. However, based on price we would stay there again. Great service in the restaurant and well priced food and beverage

Absolutely loved our stay at the Ramada Hotel in Hamilton, New Zealand! The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of the city, close to everything. The room was clean, modern, and super comfortable, with all the amenities we needed. A special thank you to Dumindas for his outstanding service—he went above and beyond to make sure our stay was smooth and enjoyable. His professionalism and warm hospitality really stood out and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Hamilton. We’ll definitely be back—thanks again Dumindas and the team!

The worst rooms I've stayed in in a long time. Windows that don't shut, constant dripping outside the window, corridors that stink of smoke, tiny beds, zero sound proofing, view of a rotting towel on the rooftop within reach. Will avoid at all cost in the future.
Ben M — Google review
If I could give it a 3.5 I would 😊 The main pros are the central location (although very loud at night on the weekend), the friendly staff, the decent sized gym facilities, and the great water pressure in the shower. The main downsides are the outdated rooms, scruffy carpets in the halls, and the maze-like layout of the hotel.
Isabella P — Google review
If you are looking to party, want to be loud and don't care about other people... go to Ramada, you will find like-minded 'friends' in the hotel ... and in front of the hotel, too. And the best: The hotel staff does not care, either. You can be drunk, you can have fights on hotel floors... they won't call the police for hours... just like on the evening of the 10 October... when guest already pointed out at 6pm that this will not end well... and the "party-people" were only trespassed at 2am... a bit unfortunate for anyone having to work on the next day - but, again, who cares?
Alex — Google review
The location is amazing, but the building is a bit old. The rooms are tiny and muggy. Feels like a maze walking from the carpark to reception. Breakfast is okay, but if uts nit included in your room them there are better places around.

Argent Motor Lodge is a laid-back motel offering low-key studios and apartments with fully-equipped kitchens, luxurious bathrooms, and plush bedding. The award-winning lodge provides sophistication and style with amenities such as Sky TV, free WiFi, on-site parking, guest laundry, in-room breakfasts, and dinner delivery services. Guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast from the kitchen while staying within budget. The rooms are well-appointed, clean, comfortable with non-slip surfaces on the stairs.
Spacious and very modern decor, excellent lighting with good access from all rooms. Even though very close to the motorway and hospital noise level were acceptable. Access to the hospital and the main city center was within 3 to 10 minutes driving.

Stayed a few nights beginning of August 2025. Very clean, tidy spacious rooms. Was important to be close to the Hospital so our family/extended families could be close with easy access to our sick relative in Hospital. Graeme went over and above with service & compassion in our sad time. Highly recommend Graeme & the team for their great service. Will definitely recommend Argent Motor Lodge. AAA+
Dianne G — Google review
Amazing host that does his best to make a stay comfortable with great communication and empathy. The lady that checked us in came across confronting but came right and was lovely too. Great location if you need a bed after hospital. Host might offer to take you up. Easy walk too. Close to take out and supermarket is a quick drive. It's amazing how shutting the door eliminates the road sound. For a place right on the main road, the noise is minimal because of the way the room is made. Lots of kitchen things to make your own feed, even egg cups. Little extra tweaks to make your stay a nice experience. Clean, very tidy.
Tee C — Google review
Stayed 3 nights at this Beautiful location close to the hospital which is where my son had been. Was able to walk back-and-forth without worrying about parking at the hospital. The staff were very friendly and went out of your way for me. Thanks Sarah 🙂

Aquarius Motor Inn is a retro-style lodging option that provides simple yet well-equipped rooms with kitchen facilities. The inn features an indoor pool and a BBQ area for guests to enjoy. Its convenient city-center location makes it an ideal choice for business travelers. The accommodation includes studio units, one-bedroom units, and two-bedroom suites, all featuring fully-equipped kitchens, Sky TV, and access to amenities such as laundry facilities and highchairs.
I recently stayed at Aquarius Motel and had a comfortable and hassle-free experience. The room was clean, tidy, and equipped with all the essentials — including a good bed, fresh towels, and a small kitchenette which came in handy. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making check-in and check-out smooth. I especially appreciated how quiet and peaceful the environment was, which made it easy to relax after a long day. The location is convenient, with nearby shops and restaurants within walking distance. Parking was also easy and free, which is always a plus.

Great place. Very friendly staff. Bed was comfy. Great size room. Bathroom and kitchen need an update but 100% fine. Shower was great pressure.
Bex M — Google review
I stayed in Room No. 5, and the condition of the room was extremely poor. The dustbin was full of used condoms — it looked like the room had previously been used by sex workers. There was a strong, unpleasant smell as soon as I entered. The carpet was very dirty, and there were stains on both the floor and the bed. Overall, it was a terrible experience. I do not recommend this motel at all.
Newzealand — Google review
This place is very dated, very dirty and very much should be avoided. Holes in the walls, stains on the carpet, mess left around the e bathroom. I had two different rooms and both were the same. It’s clearly and ex emergency housing motel that has had no work done on it since. Fine if you want bargain basement but otherwise best to avoid IMO.
Gregory M — Google review
We experienced Condom packets Cigarette buts Bullet casings Possible sex workers and other dodgy people associated with that activity 24/7 Loud and violent noises throughout the night Fake advertising re swimming pool - it is out of order and has been for a decent amount of time. Misinformation regarding room facilities - the family rooms microwaves are broken, the stove top has only one element working. Dirty and unsanitary rooms - we got flea / bed bugs bites. Unsafe surroundings - numerous dodgy people hanging around rooms and motel entrance. The owner / manager was abrupt and unprofessional. Definitely steer clear of this location.
Kristie B — Google review
Great last minute accommodation for myself and my family we had a very comfortable stay and were able to check after hours and we were helped the manager Mukesh who was extremely helpful and professional
Ra T — Google review
Stayed in Rm 9. Flithy carpets, ants in cupboard under sink. No plug in bathroom sink. Couch badly stained. Rubbish found down side of couch and under bed. Towels and bedding clean.
Kate M — Google review
Filthy dirty mess. From cat shit to broken glass, drug paraphernalia & dried blood. Late arrival for 2 night booking, went straight to bed. Woke up, saw the unbelievable mess & went straight to the office. Begrudgingly gave me refund for tonight but charged full price for sleeping in that squalor last night.

Alcamo Hotel & Conference Centre in Hamilton offers comfortable rooms with balconies and kitchenettes, along with an outdoor pool. The hotel is conveniently located near Prodrive Golf, Whitiora Bible Church, Waikato River, and Waikato Stadium. Guests can enjoy the outdoor pool, terrace, and garden. Visitors have praised the spacious spa baths in the rooms and the comfortable beds with electric blankets.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. My room was nice and tidy, well maintained, comfortable bed, easy access to the motel and lots of parking spaces. The Managers and Staff are also very polite, friendly, approachable and helpful. The best thing about my room was the big spa bath, it was so relaxing and with the jets going made it that much better, I'm about 6'2 and could comfortably lay in there. I will definitely be staying here again as I travel to Hamilton roughly every 12 days to see my two young daughters who also loved the place. If you're looking for an affordable place, tidy facilities, easy parking, comfortable rooms and friendly approachable staff then I'd highly recommend The Alcamo. Thank you for having my Daughters and I. Patrick
Patrick D — Google review
I recently stayed at Alcamo motel along this road, and while all seemed like decent options, this one stood out to me—mainly for its pricing and unique vintage look, giving off a charming, old-school Mexican vibe. The environment was clean and tidy with ample parking space, which was a definite plus. However, when it comes to the rooms, I feel this place is overdue for a bit of a makeover. The interior could use some upgrades—starting with the shower heads, and expanding the list of in-room amenities. It would be great to have more drink options like tea, coffee, and hot chocolate available together. A bottle of water in the fridge and a small carton of Anchor milk were nice touches, though. Now, the most disappointing part was the bed. The pillows felt like they were just stuffed and stitched without much thought, and the mattress itself was very uncomfortable—it really needs an upgrade. Considering we’re in 2025, air conditioning should be standard, especially to improve ventilation in the rooms. As for security, the front door could benefit from an additional layer—just a basic handle doesn’t provide enough peace of mind for guests staying overnight. Overall, this motel has potential. With some refreshing upgrades and a bit more attention to guest comfort, it could become a place people genuinely look forward to coming back to—instead of something that feels bland or basic.
Adnan S — Google review
So you'll read lots of reviews about how dated this place is - and it is. But the room was a decent size, the linen seemed to be really good quality, and the bed was more comfortable than my own bed. There was no air conditioning, but the fan was just as good to be honest. I run hot, and with the fan on I was very comfortable. The room was extremely clean, and you got free bottled water in the fridge every day which was very much appreciated. The only thing that drops it a star is the bathroom, specifically the bath/shower situation. The shower is over an absurdly large bath. When I say 'absurdly large' I mean it. It needed its own postcode. And friends, the bath was TALL. I didn't realise just how tall until I tried to climb in for my first shower. There was a great sense of accomplishment once I got in successfully, but I had no dignity left - that would have been a confronting sight. And after all that, my reward was the weakest stream of water I think I've ever seen in a shower. If you need to wash your hair, put some time aside - it takes a while. And the shower head is as absurdly low as the bath is absurdly high - I'm not tall and I still had to bend awkwardly. And then I had to get out again, which was again humbling. I genuinely think that if you have any mobility issues at all you should reconsider booking here. The location is great, the rooms are clean and comfy, but I consider the bath/showers to be a health and safety hazard. If you do choose to book, one option is to take one of the dining chairs in to assist getting in and out. That won't help the weak stream or low shower head, but at least your dignity will be intact.
Amy M — Google review
Not a hotel I would recommend. My first night was terrible — I got no sleep due to a broken, squeaky single bed that desperately needs replacing. Throughout the night, I could hear the plumbing pipes every time someone used the bathroom in the room above me. The next day I was moved to another room, but it had a musty, unpleasant smell; even after using air freshener, it only masked the odor briefly. Overall, it was not a pleasant stay — I left feeling tired and drained. The entire place really needs a full upgrade.
Jasmine E — Google review
Perfect location to anything and everything central in Hamilton Best price as was very affordable and the staff are super friendly and helpful. Room was clean and tidy and we absolutely loved the spa bath. We will definitely be back here Thanks again
Cherie ( — Google review
Good overnight spot but needs upgrades. In the room we stayed in you had to get over a high spa to have shower in spa so can't just walk into shower
Random A — Google review
Clean and quiet, but very dated. Showering requires a tricky climb into and out of a large spa tub that would not be suitable for older/less nimble people.

Absolutely amazing service! We decided very last minute to stay in Hamilton for 2 nights when we got tickets to go to the rugby. Because of the rugby accomdation this close to the stadium was booked everywhere. The staff at Camelot went above and beyond to find us a room. The only room they had available was a 3 person (were a family of 4) so they even got a mattress and sheets and set up another bed for our son. The room was lovely, freshly updated, clean and spacious. All of the staff were amazing! One of the best stays we had while travelling around NZ. Highly recommend!

Beautiful rooms, clean and fresh. By far the best Motel we have stayed in and very child friendly. Staff are very lovely and accommodating, they were also aware we were in town for our sons surgery and helped us with last minute changes to our stay including a nice discount.
Ngahina B — Google review
Disappointed by this "4 star" hotel which is clearly not one. We booked a room for one night. The first room we were given smelled of cigarette and dirt. The smell was from the carpet and walls. It made no sense for the hotel to say that they should have disinfected or even ventilated the room. The decor and comfort of the rooms is non-existent. We are between 4 walls and that’s it. The best remains for the end where we were about to leave the next morning at 10:08 and the receptionist came to us to make us understand that it was necessary to leave quickly when there was no one else in the hotel. From disappointment to disappointment, this hotel is in the worst we are made. To run away

Nestled in the heart of Hamilton, Ashwood Manor offers a cozy and relaxed lodging experience perfect for travelers seeking comfort and convenience. The informal studios are well-appointed, with some featuring indulgent whirlpool tubs and handy kitchenettes that make it easy to whip up a meal. Guests appreciate the spaciousness and cleanliness of the rooms, which match their online photos perfectly. The location is ideal, just a short stroll from town where you can find amenities like Pak & Save for your grocery needs.
Right next door to Laser Eye Centre in Hamilton, so a perfect location for me. Reception and cleaner both lovely and helpful. Rooms recently renovated.

The rooms were clean & had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. However, the room was overtaken by ants everywhere, while we were eating they were crawling all over our food. Notified the office. Lots of rubbish around in the gardens

After staying in Auckland the night before at a five star hotel, and attending a wonderful concert, we were driving a 6 hour drive home untill realizing we would be delayed by a road closure. So decided to stay in Hamilton overnight...... We saw that Ashwood was close to the CBD which suited us, so we could go for dinner. To begin the experience.....upon arrival we observed that there was another guest upset and unhappy with their treatment. The lady behind the counter was extremely rude and highly judgmental toward us also. When we asked if there was a room available to accommodate us, the lady responded " well I have to tell you yes". This made us feel like she wanted to say no, which made us feel very unwelcomed from the get go! We were asked to pay an extra $100 bond on top of the cost of the room which was $200. So totalling $300 which was fine of the total but a bit strange to us as we have traveled as a family all over the north island staying at many motels and hotels over the years and have never, ever been asked to pay a bond. Again.... This made us feel more unwelcomed. There were 2 options given to us....one without spa, and one with a spa..... We chose to have the room with spa so we were allocated room 4 which was in a dark, alleyway, corridor type corner on the bottom floor. We park our vehicle. When we exited the vehicle...our 13 year old daughter pointed out that there was a large knife 🔪 in the garden beside the carpark. This made us feel very uncomfortable. However, we carried on to our room.... Once entering the room...we realized that the room did not have a spa..... So when we went back to reception to rectify this....the lady behind the counter asked " was there anybody in there?" As if she had given us access to someone else's space. She then gave us access key to room 20..... On entry to the room, we were greeted by a overpowering smell of solvents. However the room was freshly revamped and looking lovely like it had just been renovated. To avoid the smell, the owners could have ventilated the room a little better. Not much of a major. We visited the Hamilton gardens and dined out for dinner which was unbelievably amazing! Highly recommend the Hamilton Gardens and The Bank Bar and Bistro! We were looking forward to a relaxing spa upon returning to the Motel after dinner...there is absolutely no way you could relax with the aggressive noise and pressure that was coming out of the center of that spa bath. Yea you heard right...The spa had jets in the center not on the sides...blasting straight up! The noise made us worry for the neighbours so we ended turning it off. Very disappointed. TV.....climbed into bed to watch the tele after the so called spa bath ....it was a smart tv. The TV had no Ariel attached so we couldn't actually watch any tele. We noticed that Netflix and tvnz etc were logged in under precious guest's account, which assured to us that others have had the same experience with the tele. We felt invasive to watch their accounts so we turned it off . Disappointed again! We could hear the neighbors, every word of their conversation and even when they were passing gas. The walls are paper thin and so are the doors! The grounds were completely neglected.....there was a knife in the garden! Their were undies in the carpark. There were 2 or 3 orange teeth flossing sticks directly outside the main office. Sorry I should have grabbed photos of these. The following morning, we went to checkout. We had to wait until a staff member had checked our room to confirm that the room was okay in order to have our $100 bond reimbursed. ...... Whilst we were waiting for our room to be checked .....another couple came to the reception to checkout.....they were greeted kindly and thanked and sent on their way as any normal human should be without having their room checked, nor having to have a bond reimbursed. This again....made us feel extremely judged, and unwelcomed. I do not recommend this place. Advice to owners. Be kind, and treat others as equal.

⸻ Deeply Disappointed by Hotel’s Lack of Compassion I booked this hotel through Agoda when I flew to Hamilton after my son was involved in a serious motorbike accident. After he was urgently transferred to Tauranga Hospital, I contacted the hotel directly to explain the emergency and asked to cancel the booking. They told me to go through Agoda, which I did. Agoda was understanding and said they would try to speak to the hotel on my behalf. Unfortunately, the hotel refused to approve the refund. I made it very clear to both the hotel and Agoda that I didn’t have the money to rebook in Tauranga, and that I would be staying with my son in the hospital. I ended up sleeping on the hospital floor because I had nowhere else to go—but still, the hotel showed no empathy or flexibility. I understand that policies exist, but in moments of crisis, compassion should come first. Sadly, this hotel chose policy over basic human decency. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who values kindness or care during difficult times.

Cedar Lodge Motel, located in Hamilton's Whitiora neighborhood, is a convenient choice for travelers. The motel offers clean and comfortable rooms at a moderate price. While the facilities may be a bit dated, the friendly staff and convenient location make it a good option for those looking for affordable accommodation. The motel also provides amenities such as bicycles for rent and has a terrace and garden with lovely views.
This motel has recently undergone a change in ownership, and the new owner has completed renovations both inside and out, resulting in significant improvements compared to previous reviews. The manager was exceptionally helpful and welcoming. The current Booking.com rating exceeds 8, which I believe accurately reflects its current condition. The bed was incredibly comfortable, featuring a latex pillow, and the room was clean. While the water pressure was slightly low, it was still adequate for a shower. Overall, the motel offers a reasonable price and serves as a perfect place to rest, whether you're traveling with family or on a business trip.

The place is a little outdated, that’s the truth. I was not sure about it initially but I warmed to it quickly. The black out curtains were amazing, the bed was so so so comfortable and the place was immaculately clean. Would definitely return

The new owner Jason could not have been more helpful. The unit is very clean. The beds are good, kitchen is fully equipped with free standing oven, Microwave, all the necessary items to cook or make tea and toast. Bathroom and toilet are clean. Free WiFi, new TV. Unfortunately no aircon in the unit but that is coming. Fantastic price for single, couple or family. Recommend you give them a go. Our rating is 3.5. I'm sure the ratings will go through the roof when all the renovations are complete.

The stay was great really enjoyed it, especially booking at the last minute, Jason and the team were really good and yes the room was hot but this is because of the weather, but could I please suggest in installing a Air conditioning unit which would cool the unit down in summer, I loved the way that the unit had a fan but really needs a AC unit, me and my wife had a comfortable night, thanks for the access to Netflix😀 but overall this place is readily available to the city and a supermarket close by. Highly recommend this place for future guests. Thanks Jason and the team for accommodating me and my wife for the night which is our first time in your city. The room had everything one could ask for especially an apartment. Well done😀😀😀

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I had a fantastic stay at this motel! The room was very clean, and the bed was incredibly comfortable, which helped me get a deep and restful sleep. I was especially impressed with the high-quality latex pillow—it was amazing and added to the comfort. The location is perfect, right near the city center and surrounded by shopping malls, bars, and restaurants. Everything I needed was just a short walk away. The staff were friendly and helpful, making my stay even more enjoyable. This place is absolutely worth the money, and I’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Older facility, guess it was built in the 1970's, due to building materials used. But it has full kitchens with a stovetop and ovens with microwave and refrigerators, so you can cook your own meals, and the units are clean and comfortable. We found the owner to be honest friendly and helpful. It has a central location to Hamilton CBD and is not far from the local sports stadium. So if you are on a budget but in Hamilton for work or a holiday or event this motel could work for you, as it did for my wife and I.

Nature & Parks
Park
Hamilton Gardens is a sprawling 50-hectare landscape located southeast of the city center. It features an array of meticulously designed gardens, including Japanese, Italian Renaissance, and traditional Maori-influenced spaces. Visitors can explore themed enclosed gardens such as Chinese, English, American, and Indian gardens with unique architectural elements like colonnades and pagodas. The park also includes a cafe, restaurant, and playgrounds for children to enjoy.
Located some 120 kilometres from Auckland this experience is a MUST for any lover of gardens and beauty. The Hamilton gardens are by all accounts one of the most impressive botanical gardens to visit to explore gardens of the world. Simply stunning! Make the stop as part of your trip to Rotorua or Hawke’s Bay. It’s great value and is just magnificent. Stop at the cafe for coffee before you head off and explore the beautiful spaces. The tour takes a good two or three hours…. Enjoy

Well worth a visit, the lake is lovely with little ducklings currently. We went into the enclosed garden (paid entry) and it was worth it. Stunning design and so fun to explore! We took a lunch break before heading back in. We ended up spending 5 hours there with my senior parents. Plenty of seats along the way to rest and sights and floral displays to photograph. Bring your power bank! One tip - Make sure you head to Mansfield Garden then to Picturesque Garden to follow the story. The cafe has menu and items in the cabinet. Highly recommend the apple feijoa smoothie! Parking was easy. A great experience and highly recommended!

Hamilton Gardens is one of the few places in the city that’s truly worth spending some time exploring. Each themed garden may not be a perfect replication of its cultural origin, but they do a great job showcasing the key elements within the limits of the space — from the pavilions and traditional structures in the Chinese Garden to the tatami-style layout in the Japanese Garden. I’ve visited many times — sometimes with friends, sometimes with family, and sometimes just by myself. Even within the same garden, the scenery can feel completely different depending on the season, which is part of the charm. It used to be free, but now non-residents need to purchase a ticket. Staff at the entrance will ask where you’re from and sell the appropriate ticket, and there’s a check at the gate before entry. The whole park is medium-sized. You can do a quick walk-through in about 30 minutes, or spend half a day strolling slowly through each garden. It’s a wonderful spot for families, offering both relaxation and a bit of education. A solid 5-star recommendation.

Highly recommended if you find yourself in the Waikato area. We were pleasantly surprised with how big the place is. We were there for more than 2 hours enjoying every single themed section of the gardens. Would definitely bring relatives and friends the next time we visit Hamilton.

Beautiful place with various gardens from multiple cultures. I was fascinated by the aesthetic and the upkeep of everything. Highly recommend checking this place out for a casual stroll. Admission fee was about NZ$20 You could spend up to a few hours here depending on if you just want to see all the gardens or just relax.

The Hamilton Gardens truly took me by surprise. I didn’t expect such a wonder — so full of unexpected diversity. The way each garden is shaped by its own culture and country feels absolutely unique, something I’ve never encountered before. Everything is beautifully cared for, charming, and delightfully unusual. And now, in spring, the blossoms add their own magic — a touch of fragrant mystery drifting through every corner.❤️

Outdoor Activities
Hamilton Zoo is a popular destination for animal enthusiasts and families, housing over 600 animals from New Zealand and around the world. Visitors can observe the animals in their natural habitats, learn about their environments, and engage with zookeepers during various talks throughout the day. The zoo also boasts a walk-through aviary dedicated to native birds and plants, providing an immersive experience for guests. Additionally, it offers facilities such as picnic areas, a cafe, playgrounds for children, and a souvenir shop.
The upgrades to this facility are fantastic. It's clean, the animals are well cared for and happy, and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The map is well laid out with plenty of play areas sprinkled throughout, as well as restrooms and snack opportunities. Disability access is decent, but there are some steep areas. The cafe is good, with a smaller outlet next to the playground. There is a decent selection of gluten and dairy free snacks, as well as alternative milks for surprisingly good coffee.
Jenn H — Google review
Hamilton Zoo is a fantastic place for families and animal lovers. The enclosures are spacious and thoughtfully designed, giving the animals room to move and making the experience feel natural. The highlights include the big cats, giraffes, rhinos, and the incredible aviary walk-through. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about conservation. Keeper talks are engaging and give you a deeper understanding of the animals and the zoo’s work. The grounds are well-kept, easy to walk, and there are plenty of shaded areas and picnic spots to relax. It’s not overcrowded like some larger zoos, which makes the visit more enjoyable and peaceful. A great balance of education, conservation, and family fun—definitely worth a visit if you’re in Hamilton.
George S — Google review
This was my second visit, and I had a great time again. The grounds are quite large, so I recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. I really love zoos, so I always take my time to look carefully at how the exhibits are designed and to make sure the animals don’t look bored. I was surprised to see so many peacocks freely roaming around right near the entrance, but they seemed very used to people and were quite friendly.
Ha R — Google review
Spent a few hours here, my daughter had a blast. Wouldn't mind returning to see the tiger as we never got the chance too since there were so many people in the viewing window. In my eyes it was well worth it. Zoo keepers seem to take great care of the animals.
Racheal P — Google review
Had a fabulous family day out and were lucky enough to enjoy two of the animal encounters the zoo offers. Both our encounters and general viewing experiences were top notch. We got to see a variety of the animals being fed, playing, and living positive and enriched lives.
Chloe M — Google review
A wide variety of animals. All animals seemed healthy and with a reasonable amount of space and activities to do. I'm very torn over the chimps because most of the time they just don't look active or happy. We paid extra to do a lemur encounter as we have done in the past and it's a reasonable price to see the lemurs up close and hand feed them. The interaction is on the lemurs terms and the keepers have interesting information on their behaviour and hierachy. The takeaway is that all lemurs are now endangered due to deforestation in Madagascar (citified). For the animal encounters I recommend buying tickets in advance online to ensure you have enough for your party. The zoo entrance is a separate fee. Wear the shoes as stated on the ticket. You'll need good walking shoes anyway as the grounds are massive. The addition of a nice cafe at the entrance, improved parking and several wee playgrounds around the zoo have all improved the zoo immensely.
YoungNZ M — Google review
My daughter and grandson absolutely enjoyed a Sunday morning spent at the zoo. Loads of cute animals with play grounds in-between which was great for me to have a breather lol it's definitely a must do for the family. Thank you Hamilton zoo for the great experience, we'll be back

We loved Hamilton Zoo, even on a rainy day it was a really fun experience. We had half the displays to ourselves, given that not many people were out braving the weather. Totally worth it though, such a nice relaxed environment and the animals all appeared to be in good health! Definitely recommend the trip here

Zealong Tea Estate, located just ten minutes north of Hamilton in the small town of Gordonton, is a unique destination as the only commercial tea estate in New Zealand. The 40-hectare estate offers serene views and a variety of function venues for public activities and tours. Visitors can sample their award-winning organic tea available in four flavors at the Camellia Teahouse, along with delectable dishes.
We had a wonderful time at the tea rooms. The food was delicious, especially the tuna tar with a ginger and citrus kind of salsa- just amazing! Great staff, and a beautiful view even in the rain.

Our visit began with a stroll through beautiful gardens with statues illustrating the history of tea making. The tea plantations are in the distance. The Tea House is warm and welcoming with attentive staff, gentle classical music and restful views across green countryside. The High Tea was exquisitely presented. Each item was delicious and different. The tea was best quality. This place is for a special occasion!

High tea at a tea farm sounds like a great idea. Nice enviornment and place to sit outside. Friendly and attentive service. However for $76 a person it is too much for what you get compared to other places. They are definitely going for a high class experience, however giving the high tea experience something more would be good. The tea you get is a single flavour so no tea tasting experience (which would of been cool given there vast collection). Limited caffeine free options but that is tough for a green tea farm. The food was tasty, and well presented. Unclear if it was all made in house. There is a good amount per person.
James T — Google review
An amazing tea experience today. As a tourist who loves tea I would highly recommend this place. They have tea tasting 3 teas for $15. They also have a variety of teas, mostly oolong (their specialty) and black tea blends. There are also very nice tea pots and cups. The two ladies who helped us today were knowledgeable, welcoming and helpful. They explained how tea picking occurs as well as what makes each tea special. I would love to see a tea picking experience, that would be a great tourism boost for the place and could be done in a controlled way to ensure no contamination of the soil. Otherwise, I loved it today!

I had no idea this place existed just outside of Hamilton. Loved the service and the staff explained the different types of tea very well. I'm a Kiwi and have spent the last 8 months travelling round NZ and seeing our beautiful country. I swim regularly, about twice each week. It was a good choice to celebrate my daughter's birthday in this place, full of amenities. From the hydroslide, different sizes of pools and playgrounds. We came on Tuesday, so the tables are free to use. We came unbooked; we were thinking it was weekdays. In the reception area, we were advised to book early as we were expecting more than 30 persons. But Izzy, a lovely receptionist, helped us to make it happen by asking for permission. I was nervous at first, as we already invited the people and bringing all the food in this place. At first, I was apprehensive because we had already invited others and were bringing all the food to this location. I'm grateful to you, Izzy, for your kindness and consideration. Your greetings, smile, and genuine heart made my daughter's birthday a success. You bring blessings to both us and others; you made them enjoy the day. God bless you Izzy! Only the things that we didn't like were not allowing us just to write their name, and we can pay it all together. The manager said that it would be hard for them, but it made it difficult for us to keep coming out and pay. Thank you so much Waterworld and thank you Izzy! God bless everyone.

Good, friendly and helpful staff. Ample parking, lots of pool choices for different kid age. Great place to chill on a hot day. Big pools and spaces inside with lots of grand stand type of seating for spectators who don't want to swim. Choices of pools inside and outside. Close to Te Rapa and City Centre so popular with locals. The only issue many customers had at level 2 was the receptionists only allocate/release 10 spaces for hydroslides, at $5 per person for one hour only. No problems here. But you have to queue up again at the counter from the outside at "quarter to" each hour, for example 1245pm, 145pm 245 pm and so on. But the issue here is they started selling those 10 tickets to people who came in the door at around "20 to" each hour say 1240pm, 140pm 240pm and so on, so many people who are already inside, went to join the queue at quarter to and only to be told hydroslides tickets are all gone and they have missed out, requeue again in an hours time. I know the pool is owned by the coucile and we have to allow for some beauracratic ways of doing things but come on, this rule about getting hydroslide tickets need to be reviewed and changed. It also put counter staff in the path of unhappy customers. Fair enough, first in first serve. But when people paying for the entry fees, they should be allowed to buy hydroslides tickets as well but allocate a session if current session of 10 spaces are taken. No rejoining of the queue is required. No brainers really.

In Hamilton, New Zealand, the Riff Raff Statue is a unique tribute to The Rocky Horror Picture Show and its creator, Richard O'Brien. Located at Embassy Park on Victoria Street, this statue celebrates O'Brien's connection to the city where he lived and worked. Inspired by his time in Hamilton and the iconic film, the statue stands as a vibrant homage to local culture and creativity.
I saw this movie when I was a wee child in the middle of the night on TV and then got a copy of it when I was 13 by a cool couple moving out of my apartment complex as a going away present. It definitely made an impact on me. It was super cool to see a statue of Riff Raff while I was in NZ. Lovely statue in front of the museum.

Fantastic to see this area of Hamilton themed to The Rocky Horror Picture Show in honour of its creator, Richard O'Brien. He is said to have been inspired by the years he spent watching the Late Night Double Feature Picture Show at The Embassy Theatre (which previously stood on the site) and "cutting hair and daydreaming" in the barber shop out the front, precisely where the statue now stands. If my review and photos were helpful for you, please give me a thumbs up 👍🏼 Thanks!

This place is amazing. Well built, well thought-out, clean, and you get a lot for your money. I would recommend this place to anyone. I’ve stayed at many, many hotels, and I’ve never been impressed… until I stayed here!

Exceptional place to stay. Rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Carpark is big, which is a wonderful change from the tight smaller offerings at other motels. The rooms are extremely clean. Appreciated the heat pumps in both bedrooms and lounge area. Spa outside was an added bonus. Proximity to The Base shopping and Kmart was great! Highly recommend this establishment.

Have just checked out after staying for 3 nights in the family suite & cannot recommend this place enough. They have thought of everything, from flannels specifically for makeup to chilled water in the fridge. The beds were extremely comfortable, the space was clean, tidy & enjoyable. The spa was an absolute highlight & the staff are great!

This is a very nice motel. The deluxe room is spacious with a very nice bathroom and a little sitting area. Very clean and very comfy bed and pillows. Kitchen has dinner ware and microwave. There is a large shopping centre very close.

This lodge absolutely exceeded our expectations! So luxurious, immaculately clean, warm, amazing water pressure on the showers, heat pump, incredible big Sky TV, lovely milk in a glass bottle for tea & coffee, even a phone charger cord, hairdryer, spacious wardrobe, well equipped little kitchenette... so many little touches. Room Service daily was high-end! Our room was so modern, soundproof, peaceful and quiet stay. The Hosts were also so lovely, friendly and accommodating. This place deserves 10 stars. Highly recommend.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The room was beautifully presented, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable, especially the bed. The shower had excellent water pressure, which was a real bonus. From the warm welcome on arrival to the friendly goodbye, the service was genuinely pleasant. What really impressed me were the thoughtful extras: delicious, creamy quality milk, Cookie Time cookies, and premium hand and dish wash, small touches that made a big difference. Excellent value for money and an experience that truly exceeded expectations. We would happily stay again and highly recommend it.

Fantastic stay! The motel is neat and inviting, and my room was huge, modern, spotless, and super comfortable. The bed was very comfy and the room had plenty of space to relax. Great kitchen, big smart TV, and a lovely shower. The host was welcoming and happily let me check in early. It felt safe, quiet (even when full), and the price was very affordable. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it. Only small niggle — the shower head is a bit high, but no big deal!

Our room was spacious and very clean! There were plates and cutlery so those of you on a budget can eat in as well (conveniently located near many supermarkets) I truly enjoyed the bed heater especially since the nights can get a little chilly. Thank you for your hospitality and look forward to coming back on another occasion.

There are lots of accommodation options in Hamilton but I'm so glad I picked this one. Modern, comfortable, quiet, clean and spacious - just a really nice space. Comfy beds, fantastic shower and lots of nice little touches. You could tell thought had gone into the layout of the room. I enjoyed reading the history of the business - great family enterprise. Also, amazing value for money. This motel exceeded my expectations. I will absolutely stay here on future visits to Hamilton, without hesitation.

Great place to stay. Would highly recommend!! Nice & Clean Comfortable Bed with extra blankets & a bonus even has electric blanket 😊 And something I really appreciate is having fresh milk in a glass bottle 🙏🙌 Not far to grab something to eat. We’ll be back 💯

Great value motel. Friendly hosts, fresh cream milk in the fridge, nice large room, good kitchenette facilities, not much road noise at night and an amazing shower! The only downside was the bed was too hard for my liking but other than that I would highly recommend for those looking for somewhere on a budget.

Nice place to stay and convenient with a supermarket directly across the road. It had a spa which was very relaxing and also a pool. It was a bit cooler so didn't use the pool. The laundry area was also handy. My room had an ironing board and iron, so my uniform was ready for my day ahead. A bit noisy with traffic and children in other rooms, but all in all, a pleasant stay. Thank you!

The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. Awesome to hear and understand what they had to say as they were Culturally from another country, absolutely great. The room was above our expectations for the price we paid for the one night. Being in the middle of the cbd was very quiet with no noise from the rest of the city and tenants. All facilities in the room were user friendly and in good working order. I certainly encourage people to stay here as we will in the future.

Unfortunately we drove in and drove out. This is clearly used for emergency housing and in this instance we didnt feel very relaxed with this environment. We were happy to lose our money on this one.

Top notch experience overall, stayed for two weeks and room was always spotless after returning in the evenings. Friendly staff and great service. If I do have one criticism it is that the wifi signal wasn't very good so I ended up needing to hotspot from my phone. Otherwise perfect!

After an unfortunate incident at a different motel my family and I needed a room quickly. Easy 5 star review! Lovely clean rooms. Full kitchen with pots and pans. Very fair price. Nice firm large bed. Lovely staff and I think one of the few places in Hamilton that has a Sauna and Hot tub. The Hot tub was proper hot and super tranquil perfect after a long day on the road. Thank you Park View Motor Lodge wish we could have stayed another night!

Absolutely perfect room with spa. Seems very close to a large stadium, hopefully not too noisy on the nights when there are matches. In our case, there was no match, and we had a quiet night. No great choice of restaurants or pubs at walking distance

My whānau and I were fortunate enough to stay here for the week while in Hamilton for Radiation and chemotherapy treatment We arrived Sunday afternoon, there was some confusion with booking (via NTA) but we were allowed to stay and sort out booking issues the following day as it was the weekend. I was accompanied by my husband and out 2 babies, both under 3. The rooms were clean, tidy and warm and beds comfortable and new looking. The staff, reception and housekeeping, were very friendly and accommodating. Our shower head broke off on Monday morning and the issue was resolved within the hour. We enjoyed our stay and will be staying here again. Thank you to the staff at Tudor Motor Lodge for being excellent hosts/hostesses.

The welcoming staff really make the difference here! A nice motel with well-appointed rooms though the building and decor are getting a bit old. Modern appliances including heat pumps in the living areas and bedrooms which is a real bonus particularly in the humid summer (as air-conditioning). Nice outdoor settings too. Will definitely be back next time we need a place to stay in Hamilton!

Do NOT STAY HERE. I booked a room was on the third floor 40 stairs to carry your luggage up. The second floor smelt of stale smoke. My Room was NOT clean bathroom had leftover old slither of soap obviously left by last guest. The glass ware was dirty. I was at the end of the corridor and at one point throughout the night I was woken to someone trying my door I placed the wedge under the door for extra security. I did not stay a second night out of fear for my safety. Was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.
Scott G — Google review
Very clean studio apartment. Very comfortable bed. New heat pump worked well. New Vanity and Toilet and plenty of hot water. The building is set well back from the road so traffic noise was absolutely minimal. We stayed for 2 nights and are very happy to recommend. This property is managed by a very polite and helpful young couple who are making small improvements on an ongoing basis. The grounds are a little run-down, but this does not detract from the overall positive experience, and no doubt renovating the grounds is part of the long term plan. They will get there ... The retail and hospitality delights of Hamilton Central are only an energetic 10 minute walk away 😀

DO NOT RECOMMEND! This is a lengthy review. Booked for a second visit for 3 days stay but due to unforeseen circumstances i could not make it. This was outside of the 48 hour policy therefore was charged for 1 nights stay for 2 rooms. This was discussed and agreed. In good faith they credited $300 to stay for myself or a friend within 6 months. I was advised that my friend could use this full credit by their staff. Whilst check-in they pretended there was no booking and no credit for 2 nights. They proceeded to ignore the proof provided and made it difficult than it needed to be. They later on said the friend can only use 1 night from the $300 credit as the room is $150 p/n. Phone calls were made and each time they gave misinformation and went back on their word. I asked why they have not used the full $300 and they said they can't but another friend or I can use it at a later date instead, which does make any sense. I have sent an email to the Manager who has not tried to resolve the issue and they have failed to respond professionally. This is a true example of greed and misleading customers under false pretense.

My dad was booked in for 4nights at tudor.motorlodge as he was booked in at waikato for heart procedure, on arrival it didnt look too appealing. Anyway we checked in, was given keys and a small carton of milk. Went to our room which looked ok from first sight. Carpet was yucky and sticky in spots. Unpacked had a cuppa used the loo, smelt like someone just took a poo 🥴. Decided to warm the rooms at 21 degrees while we went to dinner as my dads on blood thinners and really feels the cold only to come back and it was freezing cold, so i spent the next few hours trying to get it to warm up but wasnt getting anywhere and new i needed to get some sleep had to up by 6am to be at the hospital for 7am appointment. Following day spent the day at waikato hospital returned to lodge at 5.30pm and called into reception to let them know aircon was not working so she followed us to our room turned the unit on pumped it up to 26degrees and said it warm for u now and leaves, im standing thea thinking bro its blowing out cold air 2 mins later it just sits in idle. So another night spent freezing. Room service came that day taking away used towels not even replacing them for new ones. Replace rubbish and that was room service done no top ups on anything no milk, tea, coffee, sugar. Beds left was not impressed at all. Will not recomend or be staying here ever agen.

Have stayed here over a week , great location , amenities were topped daily except milk which was fine , sheets and towels and linen were changed and washed daily room service was great they do a great job at recycling . The place was full but we had a extra quest stay and they were fine , Although the tv we had the hdmi inputs never worked which was dissapointing as i had a ps4 and then i brought a chromecast thinking it was my playstation at fault none worked at all . Floors could be vaccumed daily and mopped i asked for a mop but none was availble . Abit more cutlery could be added to the rooms like can openers . But other than that the staff and team are really amazing people they hosted us well they were lovely and friendly for the price and the value of the place i would stay here again it was a good nights rest and my kids loved the beds , also close to city centre and hospital . Thanks team at Tudor motel yous are doing an awsome job

Guests can enjoy well-equipped studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartments complete with full kitchens—perfect for those who prefer self-catering options during their stay.
I don’t usually write reviews, but my stay here was honestly great. The location’s perfect – right in the heart of Hamilton, with cafes, the river, and everything else just a short walk away. The room was clean, spacious, and had everything I needed. I really appreciated the kitchenette for quick meals and the comfy bed with blackout curtains – slept so well. What really stood out, though, was the staff. They were genuinely warm and helpful, not just ticking boxes – one even gave me a great local tip that made my day. Also loved having free access to Les Mills – such a bonus while traveling. It all just felt easy and comfortable. Would absolutely stay again.

A bit dated and not as comfortable or modern as some of the other Quests we’ve stayed in. The rooms are spacious though. The location is great as you walk around the corner and you have more than enough cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from. The staff are friendly and very accommodating.

First Time Stay – Excellent Experience! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a fantastic stay here! The location is perfect—right in the heart of Hamilton, with cafes, the river, and everything you need just a short walk away. The room was spacious, clean, and had all the essentials. The kitchenette was a nice touch for quick meals, and the bed was incredibly comfy with blackout curtains, ensuring a great night’s sleep. The air conditioning was just right for winter as well. The highlight of my stay, though, was the amazing Housekeeping staff. They were warm, friendly, and genuinely helpful, which made the experience that much more enjoyable. Also, the added bonus of free access to Les Mills was fantastic while traveling! The staff at Reception—Tony and Jackie—were especially accommodating. Jackie even checked my arrival time and car park needs ahead of time. Everything just felt easy, comfortable, and stress-free. I’d definitely stay again! Highly recommend.

I want to share my honest experience regarding my recent stay at this hotel. The biggest issue we encountered was regarding the deposit. We checked in around 6 PM, outside of the staff’s working hours, and were not informed about the deposit requirement. The more concerning issue was that, even though the room charges had already been fully paid, the hotel staff refused to unlock our room keys unless we provided a credit card to register for the deposit. The following day, while my wife had briefly stepped out of the room with the children, our room key was locked. When we contacted the front desk, we were told it had been locked because the deposit had not been paid. This was handled very poorly. My wife had left her wallet in the room, yet the staff initially refused to unlock the key cards. Eventually, they only unlocked one of the two cards, stating that the second would only be released after the deposit was registered. There was a phone in the room, but no one attempted to call or notify us about the deposit. Locking the room simply because someone stepped out without providing a deposit seems completely unreasonable. I shudder to think what could have happened if this had occurred after staff had left for the day, especially with children. Additionally, while we knew the hotel was older, our assigned room was on the 3rd floor. To reach it, we had to use the elevator only up to the 2nd floor, then take the stairs to the 3rd floor—something that was not disclosed to us beforehand.
Byeongyeon H — Google review
Excellent location to Victoria Street. Centreplace Mall a 5 min walk away, restaurants another 10 min walk. We arrived after reception closed, press the intercom at door and instructions given for key access. Easy, no hassles. Need to book vehicle parking separately. We didn’t and were lucky to get parking right outside (pay Saturday’s to 8pm) or Wilson’s Parking across the road (pay). Rooms a bit dated but the bed very comfortable and the shower pressure is wonderful. Separate kitchen area, washer and drier. Studio room - plenty of room for two.
Awa T — Google review
It's right the middle of the city which is so convenient. The rooms, services, and staff are all impeccable. If you're visiting Hamilton, this would be the perfect place to stay.
Abhilasha G — Google review
The room felt dated and there was a pillar right in the middle which was odd. Probably the downside of checking in late, I was given a room right at the corner with no views whatsoever. The aircon was making a loud noise which was annoying and the chairs were a bit dirty as well. The stove and some of the utensils were old though in working condition. May be I had different expectations from this hotel but going by the reviews and price I paid, I was hoping for something different. I will not be coming back here.

The Atrium On Ulster motel offers a gym and free parking. It's an unassuming apartment-style motel, with a few units offering hot tubs.
Overall, it was a great place to stay! We got warned not to stay on Ulster Street, but honestly, it was very peaceful and quiet the whole night. It was fully booked on Saturday as well. We stayed in apt 26, which is located upstairs. Be careful if it's wet and you are walking upstairs. it's very slippery. The room was a 2 beddy, very spacious for a 2 bedroom. Super king bed in one room (medium firmness) and 3 singles (medium to soft firmness) in the other. Our bathroom was quite large also. Walk-in shower, maybe 1.2m3, no bath, and toilet. The toiletries were eco-friendly and smelt very nice. For 5 guests, we were given 1 towel and 1 face cloth each. The heated towel rail was on, so when we had our showers, we had warm towels. Great selection of coffee, hot chocolates, and teas. Cutlery and crockery were clean. The entire room was spotless apart from under the beds. I bit of rubbish and fluff under the single beds. We had an aircon machine in the living room, the main bedroom and living room had smart tv. Unfortunately, the person who stayed in our room before us happened to leave the search history in the youtube search menu. Umm, it's a completely inappropriate search to leave up. We booked via Booking.com, which is quite easy and cheaper than other sites. Check-in was easy, and the reception person was friendly, although the receprion smelt like a string incense or curry smell, quite offputting lucky i was in and out for check in quickly. I was given a 250ml of meadowfresh milk and one set of keys. The guy took my credit card details and left. We always take photos before and after our stay to ensure we arent charged anything. Overall, I highly recommend staying here! For the price you are getting very good quality. We will definitely come back here.

Excellent value for money. Friendly staff. Comfy beds. Clean room. Well appointed kitchenette, seated dining area, and couch and lounge chair with lamp for tv watching, reading book, or relaxing. Stayed here because my work had booked it for Field Days. Pros - room was tidy, not a long way back off the road but unit was still quiet, king sized bed, air con Cons - paint peeling in kitchen and bathroom for a so called 4 star hotel, king sized bed was two singles pushed together so there was a hard, uncomfortable ridge in the middle of the bed. One side of the bed had an extremely noticeable dip which made it uncomfortable to sleep on that side so really I was just sleeping on a single bed. Wifi was rubbish, which it normally is if they say free wifi. I initially thought it was just broadcast over the whole complex because it was so bad but soon discovered that there are wifi repeaters in the room. Even putting phone right next to the repeater doesnt give you a signal. Shower was broken on the slide and you couldn’t lock it and water temp was variable. Room smelt of smoke, like someone had been smoking in it when I first arrived. Was ok to stay at just to sleep but I certainly wouldn’t book it myself

If you're needing to be close to the Hospital this is a great option... the rooms toward the rear are quieter away from traffic noise as its a main road, however there are a few helicopters fly in up to 11pm at night to the hospital helipad. Lovely, well-located accommodation - not far from the Hamilton Gardens. Friendly welcome from Tony at reception - he was very helpful. Our studio room had everything we needed. On arrival, our host greeted us with a hearty friendly welcome. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Good size bathroom with awesome shower water pressure. Location is good with cafe's, eateries and shops only a few mins walk. Totally recommend.

Spotlessly clean, very comfortable room, good location - very central, lots of cafes and restaurants just down the road. Hosts Wendy and Tony were really nice. Will definitely come here again if I'm in Hamilton.

Lodging
Hygate Motor Lodge is a straightforward property offering amenities like flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and parking. It also has meeting rooms available for guests. The property is located in a quiet area with lots of trees, providing a peaceful atmosphere. Guests have noted that the rooms are spacious and clean, with some mentioning recent redecoration. However, there were comments about thin walls and some inconvenience with parking due to the popularity of the motel among tradies.
Room was clean and good sized. They took a deposit but I had never stayed there before and given it's proximity to the stadium they probably have some rowdy guests so the policy is understandable. Nice bathroom. I wanted a budget room and got it. I would stay there again. Five stars because anything less is considered derogatory.
Gregg M — Google review
Do not stay here customer service is shocking. The bond was a shock, no it's not clearly marked out, it's on a piece of paper in the office where it's not noticeable, when I asked the receptionist when I could get my bond back she was.vague could not give me an answer eventually told me when the cleaners get in. I asked when etc, it was honestly like she didn't want to give my bond back. We didn't stay here, when I asked for a.refund I got nothing, the receptionist gave me the business number for booking.com told me they cannot cancel my booking on her end...also liars because they can. Don't see how you can keep people's money when they DONT stay at your motel.
Threeő J — Google review
While the room was nice, its proximity to the main road resulted in constant traffic noise, and the thin walls didn't help when the neighboring guests came home drunk in the early hour and we were subjected to listening to there very loud activities.
Cheri A — Google review
The room was clean but the quality of sheets were terrible and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. You could feel and hear the springs which is just not what you want when you want a decent sleep. Very thin walls and can hear every door being closed by neighboring guests... the heatpump remote was buggered too. Not to mention the deposit... id expect 200 from a higher end place but.... not here... and doesn't state on booking websites either so could really catch you off guard if you dont just have 200 laying around. I would not book here again unfortunately. The spa was nice though!
Devon M — Google review
Worst night ever. Never experienced like this before even in tropical country. More than 30 cockroaches appear all over the room, from kitchen to toilet even from the lamp. I'm writing this review at 00.18 AM couldn't sleep because the cockroaches still appearing. The reception is not standby (I know it's late) and I don't know what to do now. I am very tired I came here for vacation and now at this time I couldn't take a rest. This is a nightmare for me. Very very very disappointed. I wanna cry right now. Dear owner, please do the pest control before you accept guests. Do you want your guest to sleep with cockroaches?? Thank you.
Michelle I — Google review
The room was clean and had all the appropriate things, we didnt have issues with anything related to the room. I rated poorly because it is SO INCONVENIENT and ANNOYING having to pay for a $200 bond amd then wait for the cleaners to check your room before you can get the refund. All patrons waiting for bond refund etc means up to 30 minute wait just to check out. Wouldn't recommend any acom that requires this type of bond to stay. Also, somebody parked in our allocated carpark and reception did nothing to rectify so we had to park in someone else's parking spot, inconveniencing both us and the other room patron.

Clean. Lots of room. Only down side was no outside space to escape noisy children! Location is very good
Jennifer M — Google review
Unbelievable. Booked mon to thur - advertised at $179pn, but turned out to be $247pn. Accepted that, then wanted to change to Tue-Fri. Made me rebook the whole thing and now it was $320pn. Room is not worth that. Basic, cheap, minimal. Tried to reason with them and they said they were generous to have allowed me to cancel without penalty. Ulster, Kings Court and Victoria Apmts are other of their properties and I wont be staying at any of those again in the 4months I am here each week for business.

Love this place would definitely recommend anyone to stay here. The room we stayed in was nice and warm and it had everything you need in the kitchen. Its affordable and the manager was even up late to wait for us to check in as we were travelling from Auckland. Love how there was another room inside with two singles for those who wants a quiet and peaceful sleep and a double in the main lounge if u wanna watch tv. My husband and I will love to come here again. And our parking was right in front of our room even more better. Thank you
Wheeny A — Google review
This was a lovely motel. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff very friendly. Its the closest I've come to home away from home. Notably the heat pump was super quiet and the bed very comfortable. The bench top was worn and you could see the toilet was recently replaced as the lino was missing around the base, but this was very minor and the positives far outweighed this. The location was also very convenient, the city centre within walking distance and a supermarket just across the road.
Brigett T — Google review
Pretty budget hotel room. Toilet paper was this terrible, scratchy, thin stuff. Shower had no shampoo or conditioner. Booked for 3 guest and had a double and single bed in the same room. The double bed was alright, though had a pretty obvious dip in it. The single bed was terrible. Matress was so warn down with a huge dip in the middle, as the springs had obviously worn right down. Not a good night sleep. Kitchen had a mini fridge and microwave which was good, though I thought it was pretty cheeky of them to expect guests to do the dishes, considering it's typically part of the motel service. Furnishings and decor needed updating. Paint was peeled off the walls, marks had not been washed off and one of the chairs was broken at the back. Traffic noise was very loud at night, so not the best location for light sleepers. Overall not very impressed with our experience.
Melissa Y — Google review
Room pretty old, had a room with Spa toilet and shower, although it was quite a squeeze between the toilet to get into the shower, the overhead shower was bit dirty needing cleaning. Toilet paper was thin and not pleasant to use. It did have a funky smell thou. No soap, or shampoo provided the extra blankets could be placed in a better place not ontop of the cupboard collecting dust. Worse of all there stains on the towels. Luckly i took my own. Reception Guy was pleasant and very friendly and welcoming.

I really like this place! It was perfect for our family! Very comfortable and great location! Walking distance from the stadium, grocery store, and restaurants. Our room had a nice bathroom and shower with a separate toilet room inside, a kitchen with microwave, kettle, fridge, and sink, a small wardrobe with ironing board and iron, TV, plenty of power points, and a heating/ air conditioning unit, as well as free WiFi. It's standard procedure for them to check your room before you check out. I'm thankful for this because he found our HDMI cable that I forgot in the TV 😁. We will definitely be staying again in the future.
Lauren “ — Google review
My most favorite part of the room is the bathroom. I really like how the toilet and the shower and basin are separated, so one can do their business and the other does theirs, without claiming the entire bathroom. I also like the fact that it is very new, I can see that the carpet and the bathroom has just been renovated, with an air pump / air conditioner newly installed so it's all very nice. The shower box is a little small, maybe difficult for larger bodies. The kitchen in comparison is a little old, and the bed lacks a proper blanket. The 'blanket' provided is both a cover and a blanket, so you'd need to tuck the `blanket' inside the sheet. Least favourite of the room is the door. Its a glass sliding door, so can easily be broken in. The neighbourhood is also tiny, so you'd actually know who you're staying next door to.. not really secure there or for privacy sake it's not really good. Not too soundproof either, can hear next door neighbour's TV when it's on, and can here a lot of cars and people talking. The wifi here is free, but extremely poor quality connection, so won't be able to use it. Overall it's an ok stay, only stayed for a day so I wouldn't worry too much, but if it's a long stay I'll definitely get somewhere with better security and neighbourhood.
Joyce F — Google review
We loved our stay. Accomodated our family of 2 adults 3 children and an infant. Loved the bathroom, fresh and the whole stay was very enjoyable. Even though you are extremely close to main roads, it was relatively quiet. We would definitely stay again.

Nice clean and very central. Great value. Double bed a bit soft but single nice and firm. Great walking distance to grocery and eateries. Right by the stadium. Limited TV channels and needs a connection upgrade.

Perfectly clean and well equipped for a budget option I would certainly stay again. I did have to check in at another motel as UniMotel doesn't have a reception.

When we stayed the first thing we noticed the walls with paper thin. The bedspread had a melted iron mark near the pillow. The bed feels like it would have been comfortable ,but the blinds didn't block out the street light.(I tried to sleep on the 2 seater couch..no good) The bathroom didn't have any hooks for your towel etc..the shower had mould on the walls. Unless there have been some renovations in the last 2 or 3 years..super disappointed.
Karen M — Google review
Rooms are spacious and clean. It’s just that you can hear guests footsteps especially if you are staying in the rooms on the ground floor. There’s no reception on site. You will have to pick up the keys from a different location. Not much of a issue but if guests leave the main door open, chances are anyone can get in the building. Also, there main door needs fixing (opens using hotel room card key but was affixed with tape around it). Should be addressed soon as this could compromise guest safety. Otherwise, apart from the noise, the room I booked was good. Has all that I needed and I paid a good price for one night stay.
Samantha Y — Google review
Best price in the area, and the staff were really helpful, even when my flight was massively delayed due to poor weather. The room is nice, and there is a supermarket nearby which makes getting food really easy. The bed is also very soft and comfortable. Noise was a bit of a concern though
Matt S — Google review
The bed was really great, unfortunately that's were the good stuff ends. The room was large but not at all welcoming. It is obvious that cleaning is not a priority for the management. The shower door had a build up if grime which made the door opaque. There was mildew on the shower walls above the liner. The bathroom floor was disgusting particularly behind the door but the kicker was someone elses hair still on the shower floor. The added bonus of cobwebs in the public area plus in the room was an undesirable extra. Very disappointing.
Debbie P — Google review
Stayed for one night on a work trip. Room was a very good size and had everything I needed and more. Bed was comfortable and everything was clean. Walls are quite thin and the blinds don't fully block out the street light but overall was a good stay. Friendly welcome and close to nearby shops.

Ewen J — Google review
Worst place ever. Where do I start? Imagine an off-putting pungent smell of curry as soon as you walk in. I'll let that set the scene for you. The walls are paper-thin, so you literally hear every noise, the conversation next door, the phone call in reception and all the hustle, and bustle that humans tend to create. If you are downstairs you also get the delight of hearing every movement, which isn't fun when there's high heels, stomping or chairs being dragged across the floor at 11 pm. The Wifi connection is absolutely horrible it cuts in and out and was down one evening whilst trying to do work. After coming home one afternoon, I noticed that my room had not been serviced properly. The bed was not made properly. I had no toilet paper at all not even a square and had to call reception to get some. There was a bath mat and plastic bag chucked on my suitcase alluding to the fact that I had made a mess in the bathroom potentially? (The water literally goes everywhere and there is no proper drainage). You are also provided with the most basic of amenities, no place to hang your towels, and utensils that are not fit for cooking. Overall... noisy, dirty, grungy, and indefinitely overpriced for the lack of attention to detail and care received while staying. If you are to read across all of the reviews left from the past 2 years the same issues readily repeat themselves, it's clear that the manager and owner do not care about resolving easily fixed problems and do not have a heart for this industry.

BED BUGS!!!!!!!! Stay away, this motel was horrific. Everything about it was disgusting. Dirty sponges in the sink. Bathroom not cleaned. Old food all over the stove top. Grime and mould all through the kitchen. Sheets dirty. All five of us got bed bugs. I don’t know how this place is allowed to remain open. It was an extremely traumatic experience.

Very tired motel. Probably over due for update. Chair cushions, couch etc past use by date. Bed clean . Safety issue for me. .No rail on high entry steps. I'm an Octo with a walking stick and found manoeuvering my small sized suitcase difficult out to the car. However the lady at desk was welcoming and kind when I arrived . Good parking . $130. Per night.
Charmaine P — Google review
It was cheap& clean room, had a great sleep in the bed. Sadly the only thing that was a massive let down was the shower had no pressure & was just a dribble. Great service I Had a lovely chat with the wonderful receptionist /housekeeper.

We booked a two bedroom apartment, it was spacious and comfortable, had everythingwe needed. Would return again.
James S — Google review
Very old looking, needs an upgrade. Room had fleas, also had a cockroach, but that could just have come through the windows as we are near bushes and trees. No cleaning products or vacuum for us to clean our own rooms, as cleaning services weren’t operating during the holidays.
Caramel P — Google review
Extremely disappointed between the actual and the photos. Whilst I appreciate it was relatively cheap accommodation, I would have expected a little more:- dirty, only one dining chair, and another smaller chair - both broken. Cutlery & crockery not clean, and not enough for two people. The shower was hopeless, only two lights worked, numerous light bulbs didn't work. Would not recommend staying here.

So we booked before looking at the reviews. When we saw some of the reviews we were thinking oh no.. BUT the front desk lady was very accommodating, friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy, spa bath was amazing and we could watch the Rugby before we had to check out 😁. Will definitely go back there. Everything we needed was there.

Booked last minute so hadn't checked reviews. Needs an update. Carpet frayed at doorway. No kitchen sink plug. Light not working in bathroom. Vanity cupboard needs replacing. Very basic but bed comfortable.
Faye H — Google review
Lovely owners. Friendly, accommodating. Excellent service and customer relations. Great showers , clean and tidy . Just enough to stay as our mum was in Waikato hospital.
Karen M — Google review
I stayed here 3 nights and had a friend stay with me one of those nights the room was nice but the walls are very thin we were right by a storage or laundry room and could hear when people talked in there. The rooms were clean except alittle mold in the shower corner but that's easily fixed and the back area could do with a weed spray. The spa bath was wonderful, the back area was peaceful and the kitchen area was immaculate. Unfortunately there was a unpleasant miscommunication on arrival which was rather stressful but after a little discussion that was cleared up. If the room were slightly more soundproof and the shower corner was clean I would definitely rate this 4 stars. So overall I had a decent stay and I recommend people give this place a try it may not be perfect but the owner is nice and the rooms are still alot better the 98% of the other places in Hamilton

We were given the disabled room. I have no idea how someone in a wheel chair would get on with microwave and glasses out of reach and tight space for a wheel chair. No ramp to get in the doors either! The room was dusty and had cobwebs. The fridge was broken and made noises all night which didn't make for a good night's rest. The car park was full so had to park on the road. Had to go to reception in the morning to get another toilet roll as no spare in the room. The sink was blocked as over flow hole was pouring out bubbles and smelt terrible. The host was lovely and the bedding was nice and price was reasonable. Won't be recommending or staying again.
Maria T — Google review
We have just stayed in the apartment (2 bedroom, pull out couch). It was very functional if you don’t want to spend a lot of time in the hotel. The apartment we stayed in really needs a good clean. When we arrived the whole apartment smelt like curry. The dishwasher was broken, the duvet inners and the covers looked like they have never been washed before (one of them had lipstick and blood on it). There were crumbs and I don’t know what else under the pull out couch. It was really grubby! The throw pillows on the couches and bed really need to be either washed or thrown out. The sheets were so loud that they made a loud rustling noise every time you rolled over in bed, I I think it’s because they are 50% cotton and 50% polyester so they were like thick plastic. Upstairs in the bathroom there is a really weird fish smell 🤔 On the upside, it’s a great location and quiet, but just don’t look at it too closely in the daylight.
