Ermita de San Saturio is an 18th-century hillside chapel located on the banks of the Duero River in Soria. This Baroque masterpiece is built into the rock and features stunning fresco paintings that depict the life of Saint Saturn, who dedicated himself to helping the needy. The chapel blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings and offers a peaceful retreat for visitors.
Disappointingly I made it too late to go in. Still it was worth the walk for the great views

Wow. What an amazing place. Well worth the walk. Free entry too (though donations can be made).

Amazing. Parked with the campervan on the Duero river and this place is a lovely stroll along the banks. Free entry and what an experience. Well worth a visit. Soria is an amazing place as well.

Interesting little place. Well worth the climb. Closed on Mondays, unless you just like climbing.

Beautiful setting. The chapel in the grotto under the church is fascinating, but inaccessible with Covid-19 protocols in place. The capacity in the main church is limited to 30 and opens every 30 minutes for people to view. You are only able to walk into the main church at this time under these limited conditions. Masks are required the entire time.

Incredible how they builded this church from the ground up. Very nice inside and out. I just took my time inside the service area by seating at the back of the room and dwell on the scenery.

Really worth a visit.. And it's free to go in. Fantastic chapel. Quite a few steps and a little climb but worth it.

Monasterio de San Juan de Duero is a 12th-century Romanesque monastery located along the Douro River. It showcases Medieval Christian and Romanesque architecture, with influences from Jewish, Islamic, and Christian cultures. Visitors can admire Gothic and Mudejar arches as well as intricate detailing inside the monastery.
This was fantastic. 1€ entry. From the reviews I was confused so confirm for others that the Monesterio and the Arcos are one in the same. There is a parking lot on site. Entrance through a gate. You walk around the arches and enter the monetary which has a video that is a must see from start to finish to understand the location where you are and the region of Soria. It is in Spanish but all visuals so you get the gist.
Karen D — Google review
Not a lot to see, but it is interesting, quick and inexpensive (1E each). Covid protocols are in place, including limited capacity to 10 person's at a time, hand sanitizer use before entry and masks required at all times.

An interesting and informative 12th-century monastery. While there isn’t much signage in English, it’s a significant cultural site in Soria that showcases the region’s rich history. The architecture is impressive and the monastery is right on the river, so an easy stop during a river walk. Definitely an cool stop!
Tobin S — Google review
Very pretty. No English translations of the history at the site, and not much of a museum . Great for a short stop (half hour),
Matthew B — Google review

A wonderful find. Lots of interesting finds from around the area. There is only a small amount of information in English, but this is Spain. The day we went(Sunday) entry was free but I don't know if this applies to every Sunday. The cost is under 7€ so it's still good value.

San Juan de Rabanera Church is a popular Romanesque church in Soria, known for being a favored wedding venue and congregation site for locals. The church, dating back to the 12th century, displays Byzantine influences, particularly noticeable in its apse. Tourists admire its well-maintained beauty and notable features such as the western portal and the apse.
(Translated by Google) It owes its name to the origin of the people, Rabanera del Campo, who between 1109 and 1119 settled in Soria, thus founding one of the 35 intramural collations plus another extramural collation that the city had, according to the census of Alfonso X El Sabio. After enduring important transformations throughout the Baroque period, which made it almost unrecognizable, fortunately the latest restorations carried out in the early and mid-20th century managed to largely restore its Romanesque essence and purity. It was declared a National Monument in 1929 and an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2000. (turismo Soria)

(Translated by Google) If there's one building in Soria that transports you back to the age of noble splendor, it's this palace. The Palace of the Counts of Gómara is imposing and dominates Aguirre Street with its robust stonework. From the outside, what's most striking is its façade: the long stone ashlar wall culminates in a magnificent square tower. Beside it, the continuous gallery, with its Renaissance arches and columns, gives it a touch of sophistication. Take a close look at the main entrance, at the coat of arms: just above it, there's a figure of a woman looking out of a window. I was told that legend says her husband put her there as punishment for her nocturnal "rounds"... a 16th-century architectural rumor! It's the finest example of Renaissance civil architecture you'll see in Soria. It's amazing to see it and think that today it's the Provincial Court.

(Translated by Google) Palace of the Counts of Gómara (1577-92), in Soria. According to a Renaissance and Herrerian project for Don Francisco López de Río y Salcedo, senior lieutenant of Soria and I lord of Gómara (1579), a rich nomadic cattle rancher; of humble hidalgo lineage of Galician origin (López de Río), who managed to enter the high nobility of Soria, since he arrived in Soria in 1520, buying trades and becoming related to the Salcedo and Bravo de Saravia. The origin of the Soriano lineage was the Galician Don Juan López de Río who arrived in Yanguas from San Martín de Mondoñedo, being warden of said plaza. In 1692, his lineage obtained the title of Count of Gómara in favor of Don Luis de Salcedo y Arbizu (1630-93) from the hands of King Charles II of Spain (1665-1700). Main façade of 109 m. in length, which although it was longer in the project, it is said that it was shortened because King Philip II of Spain (1556-1598) did not want it to overshadow his own Escorial palace, and did not give the necessary approval to the plans. Corridor gallery of 12 Tuscan columns and 24 Ionic columns. Large central patio. Horizontality that contrasts with the verticality of its almost 20 m quadrangular corner tower. in height. Magnificent lineage shield. Today it is the Palace of Justice.

The CASA DE LOS POETAS museum in Soria is a charming and intimate establishment. It is highly recommended for its cozy atmosphere and dedication to renowned writers such as Antonio Machado, Becker, and Gerardo Diego. Access to the museum can be obtained by requesting it at the reception of the Circulo de los Amigos Numancia. This small yet captivating gem offers visitors a glimpse into the lives and works of these emblematic literary figures from the area.

You first have to find the statue outside and enter the casino; there's nothing on the door indicating the museum's opening hours or whether it's open. A shame, but at the same time, is it a way of ensuring only poets can come? At the entrance, go to the reception desk and pay the €2-3 entrance fee. They then take you to the elevator; the 3rd floor is only accessible with a key. I stayed up there alone for two hours! Completely alone! And it was magnificent. I loved the way it was presented. (Translated by Google) Church of Nuestra Señora del Espino (12th-17th centuries), on Santiago Street, attached to the municipal cemetery, in Cerro del Castillo, in Soria (Castilla). In Soria, the origin of the cult of the Virgen del Espino dates back to the 16th century. XIII. Church according to Proto-Renaissance - Plateresque - design, although the temple dates back to the 16th century. XIII; However, we only see a Renaissance church with three naves - originally a single nave with two sections with a presbytery -, with a transept, sacristy (1530), a dressing room (1707) - baroque, endowed by the royal notary Don José Martínez de Montarco -, rectangular tower (1594-1604) - with three sections, by the Cantabrian masters Pedro and Rodrigo Pérez de Villaviad -, choir and polygonal apse. In 1270 it was recorded as Santa María de Coballieda; In 1352 it already appears as Santa María del Espino. This church is the highest ranking temple in Soria after the Co-Cathedral of San Pedro. The main chapel was endowed by Don Jorge de Beteta y Hoces and Doña Mayor de Cárdenas, with sepulchral niches. The Chapel of the Gospel or Santa Ana was founded by Don Hernando de Morales. The Epistle chapel is from the Molina lineage, relatives of the Beteta. With the 'war of independence' (1808-14) the French occupied it as a barracks - destroying the central ribbed vaults - and in 1952 a fire devastated the temple - destruction of the central altarpiece and the black Romanesque image of the titular virgin - . As tourist it is impossible not to see this bar/pastry shop while strolling around one of Soria’s main squares. Allegedly, this place has a very good reputation as pastry and local delicacies shop. However, we came in to drink a “cortado”. One young guy and two young girls were working at the bar. The shop was full and I had to wait almost 10’ before getting served, with only two guests ahead. The staff was surely overloaded, however they were totally disengaged from work. No smiles, no attention to the clients, if robots were there it would have been more fun, at least for the clients, to watch. I ordered a cappuccino, and with my big surprise they do it with chocolate as first layer…no comment on that. We found a seat in the back side of the shop, it was a total mess. As I am writing I am still in the shop and look at the mess in the attached photo. Nobody is coming over to clean the tables up. For sure, I won’t come ever again here.

Just a few crumbling walls of pale stone - limestone perhaps? - in the middle of a lovely forest park. Not worth making a special journey just to see the castle remains, although the beautiful park most certainly "vaut le voyage", as the Michelin Guide says about its most highly-recommended restaurants. So don't come here expecting to see much, but certainly seek it out when you visit the Parque del Castillo. The Palacio de Don Diego Solier is just one of the many historical landmarks that adorn the urban landscape of Soria. This Renaissance palace, dating back to the 16th century, stands as a testament to the city's rich history and architectural heritage. As you explore Soria, you'll encounter other notable sites such as churches in various styles like Romanesque and Plateresque, each with its own fascinating backstory.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful Renaissance Palace from the end of the 16th century, located on Aduana Vieja street in Soria, very close to Calle Mayor. This palace is currently adjacent to the Palacio de los Rios y Salcedo, to whose façade one of the photos in my report belongs. However, between these two palaces there would be the Palacio de los Castejones, which in the 16th century was an influential family from Agreda. The most notable thing about the Palacio de los Castejones is its façade, its door with a segmental arch and on the lintel the noble coat of arms of the family, held by the statues of two savages. These buildings were next to the wall gate, inside the walls, since the nobles had the obligation to defend the city.

This little church, occupying a small plot between two streets in the old town, was built originally in the 12th and 13th centuries, and started falling down, bit by bit, in the 17th and 18th. It is now an open-air concert and theatre space, with the walls now supported by steel and protected by large transparent panels where there are mural paintings. It is interesting to see what is the skeleton of a Romanesque ecclesiastical building revealed in this way. One of the paintings behind a screen is said to show the martyrdom of Thomas à Becket, he of whom the English King Henry II said, allegedly, “Who will rid me of this troublesome priest?”, interpreted by his courtiers as an invitation to murder Thomas. It does make you wonder how this information got from Canterbury Cathedral to a little town in Castile.

Rosaleda - Alameda de Cervantes, also known as La Dehesa, is a beloved park in Soria due to its vast size and diverse areas. The park features a grassy area for leisure activities, walking paths, playgrounds for children, and the charming La Soledad Church. Visitors can also enjoy refreshments at El Alto de la Dehesa or El Kiosko with their terraces.
(Translated by Google) Good park with numerous trees to walk at any time of the year. The Park, which covers an area of almost ten hectares, is one of the oldest public gardens in Spain and Europe, and is commonly called by the people of Soriano “La Dehesa”, in memory of what it once was, a pasture for the livestock of the former inhabitants of the city. Its official name “Alameda de Cervantes” dates back to 1905 and is due to the tribute that the city paid to the greatest figure of Spanish literature on the occasion of the third centenary of the publication of Don Quixote. In the mid-20th century the park had the triangular shape and structure that we know today. The stone wall that surrounds it, composed of a continuous ashlar bench with a robust wrought iron grille and decorated with pine cones, was built between 1947 and 1950 and is 1,400 meters long. Along it there are ten smaller doors and a main door located in the Plaza de Mariano Granados, made up of two semicircular and symmetrical openings that carry stone roses and the city's coat of arms. On the lintel its name “Alameda de Cervantes” and the city's arms appear. The Leonor Izquierdo Statue is a curious sculpture located near the Nuestra Senora de la Mayor church, dedicated to the wife of Antonio Machado. The statue pays tribute to Leonor Izquierdo Cuevas, who married the writer and poet on July 30, 1909, in the same church where the statue stands. Despite her short life filled with joy alongside her husband, she fell ill with tuberculosis and passed away in August of the following year.

In a little tree-shaded square, the Plaza San Esteban, off the shopping street Calle el Collado, is this extraordinary sculpture. It consists of a cube of white stone, about one metre in each direction, and on top, in a black or dark-grey stone, the head of a woman. Just the head. It’s not a bust, as there is no neck and shoulders, no neck on its own, just the head, ending in the chin. The head is just over a metre high. I cannot say much in support of this, I’m afraid, as I did not like it and found no artistic value in it. Sorry!

If you're looking for a vibrant spot to enjoy sports and good food, look no further than Salón de juego & Sports Bar Pause&Play. This lively venue is perfect for catching a Champions League match while indulging in delicious chicken burgers that leave you craving more. (Translated by Google) I visited Pause&Play at the Camaretas Shopping Center and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the service. I especially want to highlight the attention of David, who was very kind and attentive throughout our visit. The atmosphere is excellent to enjoy a good game of pool or watch sports on their giant screens. Without a doubt, a highly recommended place to have a good time in Soria. (Translated by Google) Bad experience. After having enjoyed Play and Pause at other locations, we decided to go to the one in Soria... mistake. Since we entered, the attitude of the staff was completely apathetic, zero kindness, zero desire to serve. We ordered some drinks and some chips. The waitress serves us our drinks, and 10 minutes later, she comes to our table only to tell us that she can't put the potatoes in for us. Like that, without further ado. Not an alternative, not even a slight suggestion of the rest of the letter. Nothing. I'm going to ask for my money back and they don't know how to do it right: they don't know how to pay it back with a card, so they give it to me in cash. The worst: not an apology, not a single word, neither for the potatoes, nor for the return. He only returns the money for the potatoes. We left the drinks practically untouched since they were to accompany the potatoes and something else that we would have ordered and we left with a very bad taste in our mouths. A real disappointment. We already know perfectly well that it is better not to return to Play and Pause in Soria. A shame, because the others we have tried are worth it. (Original) Mala experiencia.

(Translated by Google) The truth is that when I went I didn't arrive with much hope that I would get something, but I got the best prize I could have won (aside from the €200 I got in roulette).
