Museum
Specialty Museums
Museo del Jamón is a 7-room museum in Aracena dedicated to the iconic Iberian pig and the regional enjoyment of ham. Visitors can enjoy tastings while learning about the passion and historic charm surrounding this Spanish delicacy. The museum is part of the cultural exquisiteness of Aracena, a charming town in Andalucia known for its rich cuisine and natural surroundings, including the spectacular Gruta de las Maravillas caves.
Natalia, the guide, was excellent. She is so witty and humorous that she made the tour so enjoyable, and what she shared is so valuable to me as a consumer of iberico meat. I'm so much more knowledgeable and many thanks to Natalia

Very interesting Museum. They have an audioguide in many languages but it would have been more helpful if the signs next to the Exhibition objects were at least in english.
Tony R — Google review
I love pigs me ! A information packed museum, all in Spanish but you can download an English guide to your mobile. Ticket included in the Caves and Castle package
Gav D — Google review
This is a restaurant. Great service, very delicious Spanish food and tapas, slim wine selection but good jamon selection (beef part, % fat, etc). Moderately priced. Service is pretty fast. they probably get busy during High season.
T-Rex — Google review
This museum is way better than I expected. It's small but packs in a lot of information about both the history of Iberian ham production and its current state. Most of the exhibits are described only in Spanish but you can use the English audio guide and Google Translate on your smartphone is very helpful.
Richard L — Google review
Well laid out. Not too overwhelming. A lot of information about pigs rather than ham. The section about the slaughtering process is not suitable for small children or vegetarians.
Sue B — Google review
Unattractive with not much items to see. Its better to visit one of the farms with ham production in the villages around... There is an interesting sculpture of pig shepard in front...
Igor F — Google review
A small museum about the production of jamon in the area. It does not have many exhibits, but panels with information's, written only in Spanish. Use the audio guide for English. It's worth to visited if you have the combined ticket (12,5€)

Historical landmark
The Gruta de las Maravillas, located in the heart of Aracena, Huelva, is a renowned cave complex that offers guided tours through its underground lakes and stunning formations of stalactites and stalagmites. This natural wonder is considered one of the most spectacular caves in Spain. Aracena itself is a charming town with historic charm, rich cuisine, and cultural attractions such as the Museo del Jamon.
Amazing caves are beautifully kept and have astounding features. You enter via a man-made entrance as caves were sealed before being discovered by miners. You enter with a guided tour guide and takes approximately 50 minutes. There is one steep staircase and is not accessible to people with mobility problems. One of the best caves I've ever visited especially in Andalucia. Paid €26.00 but includes Castle and ham museum visit.
Annabelle C — Google review
The lights installed really underline the color of the water and little lakes inside. It’s not the biggest or most impressive cave visited in Spain, but definitely within the best lit in the key points. I advise you buy tickets online as it’s only with grouped tours. The village is nice to visit as well, many places to eat to you won’t get bored. The no photos rule is simply absurd and as a normal consequence no body respects it, has the logic of it has always been like that rather than an actual rationale of how it could harm the environment (in the Nerja cave they explain exactly that and why you can’t take flash photos and it makes perfect sense & people resonate), while they have so many strong lights installed in carved places in the actual stalagmites so the arguments of no photos have no fundament in fact. They also take a photo of you with a green screen at the entrance and sell you a pic of “you in the cave” which is embarrassing, it would be more acceptable to take a small fee to let you take photos in the extent of not delaying the group, which would be the only valid argument for prohibiting them photos. The guide was nice and told us lots of interesting details about the history and formation of the cave, super interesting.
Alexia U — Google review
The caves were beautiful and very nice to walk through. The guide was only in Spanish and we had to listen to a guided audio tour with our phones. This worked well but we did feel that we missed out a bit on the experience. This came with a package ticket to the Museum of Jamon and the castle on top - Castillo de Aracena. Day well spend with the 3 activities.
Lieke R — Google review
Beautiful place to spend a day. Spectacular lighting inside the caves and one of the beautiful caves I have been to. It's not that cold inside the caves. It's very nice clean and as well, like your shoes won't get dirty and all. It will take about 50 mins to finish the tour. Lot of food and drink options close by after the tour. Overall worth the visit.
Adi K — Google review
Beautiful caves. We bought our tickets the day before online, everything went smoothly. It's important to get there 10-15min prior to the appointed time.
Marta D — Google review
I decided to visit this place after the recommendation of local people. Drove 1,5hour and figured out there are no entry tickets for that day. Fortunately the cashier was so nice and sold me one ticket, but better to not count on that luck 🍀 and buy tickets online :) The cave is really worth seeing. Beautiful rock formations, stalactites, stalagmites, breathtaking colours of water. The trip takes one hour and it's an easy way for everyone.
Przemek S — Google review
Amazing place to visit, especially with kids. They'll be surprised about this magical place, the lights (or lack of), the temperature, the sounds... Pictures & videos are not allowed inside... Just pocket your phone , enjoy the moment and create your own memories 😉
Manolo D — Google review
Awesome experience! The caves are indeed marvelous. There are different formations and deposits and different areas and rooms to traverse. The tour is a nice length, they say about 50 minutes, but it somehow feels just a bit rushed because there are so many details to take it. You could really spend a whole day looking at every detail. Would definitely recommend a visit, especially on a hot day. The temperature inside is a cool 14°C.

Park
Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park is a vast area known for its Mediterranean oaks, making it a popular destination for activities such as hiking, mushroom hunting, and bird watching. The park is home to charming whitewashed villages like Jabugo, Cumbres Mayores, and Alajar that offer an authentic local experience within the striking natural habitat of the protected area.
in these hot summer days i was searching where to go but everywhere especially around the beaches was very crowded and one day one friend invited me to their home in Fuenteheridos (Sierra de Aracena) Wawww 😱to be honest i was not expecting that much beauty seems Andalucia / Spain has lots of hidden 💎 on the mountains as well😍 and friends are always good to open your mind and of course your heart ❤️ Sierra de Aracena inside the borders of Huelva and its a strictly protected national park area … Inside this area there are lots of small towns and we had visited some of them like Fuenteheridos,Alajar, Linares ,La Umbria , Cortegana, La Peña, Santa ana la real Almonaster , Aracena , Galaroza and Castaña del Robledo … Main town is Aracena and quite big town together with lots of bars, restaurants and so on.. Other towns relatively smaller but they are very beautiful as well 🥰 I stayed in Funteheridos small but very nice town😍 We travelled by car and from Seville to Aracena was around 1,5 hours … There are some 🚌 from Sevilla as well but if you would like to visit other towns its better to rent a car.. Mainly towns are 10-15 minutes far away from eachothers After too hot days in Sevilla staying here was like a heaven😌 During night time you should wear sth could be little 🥶 My friends told me towns used to have their own festivals during summer time but but because of Covid restrictions this year all of them was cancelled 😞 But Aracena and other towns for the nights they could have some 🎵 concerts or shows i watched two concerts one was in Aracena and the other was in Fuenteheridos 😍 These small towns have some routes for walking 🚶‍♀️ as well and really good time for these routes seems during Spring or Autumn but anyway we walked a lot durung these days of August and it was quite OK😊 By the way many locals come to this towns for the weekends to buy their vegetables 🌽 🍅 and fruits 🍎 😋😋loved all of them … These towns also famous with their Jamón Iberico and you can eat almost an every bar & restaurant … If you are not great fun of meat like me you can find other alternatives as well 😜but i was luck my friend was cooking very good Spanish food😋😋 By the way people around these towns are realy very friendly and i am sure if you ask sth they would tell you everything that they know❤️ Just do not forget to say Hola, Buenos Dias or Buenas Tardes 😃 Try to visit this area and i am sure you will not regret … I stayed there 15 days and i was not bored 😐 .. The only problem was lack of internet but also some of the towns have centers for connecting internet😂 So good food, good weather, beautiful nature with lots of chestnut trees 🌳 so what we need to expect more😇

Tapas bar
Restaurante Puerta 20 offers a unique dining experience with its interior filled with doors, creating a special atmosphere. Whether you opt for tapas or individual dishes, the menu features delicious options at reasonable prices. Situated near Plaza Marques de Aracena, the restaurant provides comfortable vibes and scenic views from its terrace. The friendly staff and inviting ambiance make it a great choice for a meal.
Amazing meal, prawns and steak were delicious. Great atmosphere, they close the street at 8pm on a Friday to make way for more diners! Very good value.

We did not planned to have lunch here, just some drinks on the terrace. Came back as the other option was not available and it turned out that we made a right choice. Situated next to Plaza Marques de Aracena the views and vibes were comfy. We had dinner inside where everything and everyone were invitingly and friendly. Our waitress was prompt and the place seamed to be quite busy. The food was tasty and delicious. We enjoyed every single bit of it. The prices are affordable and accordingly with what you are served. I would recommend you to try the aubergines with honey. The dish was great! Overall our experience here was nice and we would gladly return when we'll have the opportunity.
Raul G — Google review
Excellent service. Very welcoming despite the language barrier. Plenty of choice on the standard menu plus specials
Sarah D — Google review
This restaurant came recommended, and I would say the customer service was the worst I have come across in my years travelling the world. Never have I been so blatantly ignored and felt so unwelcome. I had to wait over 40 minutes between courses and were not offered any further drinks or spoken to by staff. When our main course arrived, it was wrong, and they only brought one serving out for two of us. When I tried to attack the waiter, he ignored me twice, and when we finally were allowed to pay after standing at the bar for 10 minutes, there was no remorse after our complaint. 2 stars because what little food and drink we did get was very good.
Andy G — Google review
This tavern style restaurant is really great and clean! The staff was very nice, we don't speak Spanish very well but the staff communicated with us with ease. The food was great, if you like tapas, then this is the place to go in Aracena! 5 Stars!
Carlos B — Google review
Beautiful restaurant with nice decoration, but the chair was very uncomfortable. The food was very oily, and the waitress was rude when we asked about vegetables or vegetarian dishes. They brought my mom a sherry she didn't order, and then charged her for it. The bathroom was not acceptable- no soap, paper towels, toilet paper.
Jennifer L — Google review
Very nice restaurant with just the right atmosphere. Tapas are delicious and the meat tender and straight from the grill

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
The Castillo de Aracena offers breathtaking views of Aracena and its surrounding hills. It provides a tranquil experience, although only a small part was accessible during our visit due to maintenance. However, the affordable entrance fee made this inconvenience bearable. For those interested in exploring multiple attractions, a joint ticket is available for the castle, caves, and ham museum at a discounted rate.
Beautiful views from the top. You can do a visit around the castle for free. To enter inside the castle ruins you will need a ticket.

This was a fun spot. Not crowded at all and some great history. Wonderful views of the nearby town.

A small castle/fort with moorish settlement ruins as well as a church. It’s worth the view and seeing the old structures. Tickets for the castle are sold in conjunction with tickets to the caves.

Alexandr S — Google review
3.50€ to enter, spent 20-30 minutes in the castle. Would recommend if passing thru Aracena.
Braden L — Google review
I always love to get to a high point in a new place, and this didn't disappoint for beautiful views over Aracena and the surrounding hills. Very tranquil. Part of it was closed for maintenance when I went, so the part you could visit was small, but the entrance fee was cheap so I didn't mind (I think around 2,50€, although I got the joint ticket for here, the caves, and the ham museum, which is cheaper if you visit all three). There is an audio guide available, but I was disappointed with this as it didn't really match with the places around the castle, it just told you random info about the castle and its history, when I would have liked to know more about the parts of the castle I was seeing. Friendly woman at the entrance checking tickets!
Kira B — Google review
The castle looks abandoned and we couldn't go in (locked doors). But the view is breathtaking from the spot and it takes a short (and pleasant) walk to make a full circle around the castle. I was fortunate to have a historian friend with me explaining the castle's past but in general there is no guide. If you can, look its history up online before visiting. It gives a whole different vibe visiting it. Pay attention to the combination of Arabic and Christian architecture in the church right next to the castle. Details are all that makes this place special to visi :)

The visitor center, Centro de Interpretación del Parque Natural y sede de la Agencia de Medio Ambiente Cabildo Viejo, is housed in a charmingly renovated building that was once the municipal council. This European project aims to highlight the natural beauty of the Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche Natural Park and educate visitors about its diverse ecosystems and human utilization of the land. The entrance is free, and all information is available in English.

. The former Town Hall is now a Visitors' Centre, but unfortunately the information is only in Spanish. . Another massive building, more or less opposite the Church of the Assumption. It's the former Town Hall, and interestingly is called a "Cabildo". This name for an administrative centre is nowadays restricted to the Canaries, and South America. You see, it was from the province of Huelva that many of the Conquistadores came. They set sail from here (well. obviously not exactly from up here in the hills, down below from the seaport of Huelva!) and went to make their fortune over in the New World. taking with them some of their local language. You can walk right round it outside, and pop in (during opening hours) for information on the nature trails and local fauna and flora. All in Spanish unfortunately, which is why it's only got 3 start. .

(Translated by Google) If you spend 15 days in the town, as I did, you'll realize that, for some reason, the leisure area has been displaced elsewhere. If this interpretation center, the parish church, its surroundings, and the climb to the castle in this area, plus the convent/hotel in its vicinity, were promoted as historical destinations and surrounded by souvenir shops and other typical tourist establishments, we would understand why the hospitality and usual businesses were in other areas. However, along the entire route to the castle—streets, convent, parks, chapel, parish church, etc.—there is nothing. It's as if this area, for me the most beautiful, has been ignored, as if all its buildings were unimportant, when they are the jewels of Aracena. The city council and its leaders must know why such a wonderful town promotes terraces around a common square and, instead, relegates areas like this one and its buildings to the background. In this case, what better place to locate the tourist office than the interpretation center? This way, you ensure the promotion and enhancement of the site.

Two emblematic buildings of Aracena appear here: The Cabildo and the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. The Cabildo, the former town hall, is a quadrangular building built in the 15th century. The façade is in the Renaissance style and was designed in 1563 by the architect Hernán Ruiz II, a prominent exponent of 16th century architecture and the architect of other works in the municipality, such as the Parish Church and the Church of Our Lady of Hope. by Corterrangel, as well as numerous works in Andalusia. On its frieze, the inscription “VERITAS DE TERRA ORTA EST ET IVTICIA DE CELO PROXPEXIT” (truth was born from the earth and justice contemplated it from heaven) is a clear indicator of the changes in direction in Renaissance thought regarding to medieval Christian ideology. Currently the Cabildo is the administrative headquarters and Interpretation Center of the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park. Your visit is highly recommended to begin immersing yourself in the rich and colorful environmental environment of the region. Just in front of the Cabildo on a lower level and separated by a wall of stones and red brick with a marble fountain built into the center, is the Parish of Aracena, which constitutes one of the most notable examples of Renaissance architecture in the province. .

Lovely park. Small in size but very beautiful and with lots of shade. Many beautiful plants can be seen here in beautiful arrangements. Also there are a dog walking area, an outdoor gym area, kids playground, water fountains, a toilet (was closed when I visited the park) and even some animals (chickens and rabbits). It's a nice place to have a walk or spend some time with your family. Definitely you should visit it if you have time.

Today I was a little shocked by the way the employee treated me. Not the brunette lady, who's a delight, but another one with lighter hair. She just needed to say: "Buy and go!" I wanted a box of cakes; they had them made, but the mini ones. I told her I wanted to fill it with the larger ones. First, she said no, then yes. I asked her what size it was. She said, "Is it like that?" And she said no, and I asked her what size it was, and she said, "No, that's not it." I didn't understand. I told her I wanted to take a box, and that I didn't care about the size. She offered me one for 10. In the end... the same size as the one on display, but oh well. I quickly chose them at random because I thought she was going to bite me! What a bad time! But well... It was more his face and his attitude than his words, which were very few! No thanks. The menu is not very extensive, for me that is very positive, because what they have is fresh and well-treated seasonal produce. At all times the staff takes good care of you, you can ask them for advice and they also guide you on the quantities and do not try to sell you what you are not going to eat. It is a family bar-restaurant, and they run it with a lot of love, the cook is Loli, she has already written two books, one about her own kitchen with her recipes, and another about classic regional cuisine recipes from the Aracena area above all. Conchi serves the tables and serves them very well, always very attentive to anything you need and very attentive to the needs or tastes of the diners. Julián serves at the bar downstairs, at the bar counter, and is a friendly person with many years of experience in hospitality. The quality-price ratio is excellent, anything you order is a success, the dining room is small, having four tables, some for four people and another for approximately six or eight people, in total I estimate that there are no more than 15 or 20 diners. (Translated by Google) If you spend, as I did, 15 days in the town, you'll realize that, for some reason, the leisure area has been displaced elsewhere. If this parish, its surroundings, and the climb to the castle through this area, plus the convent/hotel in its vicinity, were promoted as historical destinations and surrounded by souvenir shops and other typical tourist establishments, we would understand why the hospitality and usual businesses were in other areas. However, along the entire route to the castle—streets, convent, parks, chapel, parish church, etc.—there is nothing. It's as if this area, for me the most beautiful, has been ignored, as if all its buildings were unimportant, when they are the jewels of Aracena. The town council and its leaders must know why such a wonderful town promotes terraces around a common square and, instead, relegates areas like this one and its buildings to the background.

The first section presents a granite podium on the outside on which the perimeter wall of the temple sits. It has a hall floor plan and three naves with five sections, plus a polygonal presbytery to which the Sacristy is attached on the epistle side. In the central nave, the section before the presbytery is covered with a hemispherical vault divided by radial and concentric ribs at whose intersections there are quadrangular and circular spaces where reliefs with motifs of the Virgin, prophets and apostles are inserted. The second section has a hemispherical section on pendentives with radial and concentric ribs decorated with tile mosaics. For their part, the vaults of the side naves also have interesting designs and decorations. The choir was built at the beginning of the 20th century and for this another section was finished. With the last intervention carried out, the baptistery has been raised and the part behind the choir has been reclaimed for worship.

Discovered in 1886, these stunning caves stretch over 1 km deep into the hill on which a castle and church are built. The square dedicated to the Grottoes of Wonders features benches with scenes from the caves, allowing visitors to capture what they have seen since photography is not allowed inside.
(Translated by Google) Wow, the Nerja cave beats it by far, very lovingly and cleverly illuminated. Comments like: you can't take photos, touch anything, take nothing with you, it happens much too quickly, what nonsense, it is explained in the simplest terms why this is so and is understandable for every clear-thinking person. The negative comments can only have come from egomaniacal minds!! And it's worth visiting the grotto more often - we always discover something new and inspiring, be it simply the climate. We are very grateful to be able to visit this extraordinary place, because one thing is clear: the entrance fees hardly cover the entertainment. respect (Original) Wow, schlägt die Grotte von Nerja um Längen, sehr liebevoll und mit Hirn illuminiert. Respekt

(Translated by Google) The Gruta de las Maravillas is, without a doubt, one of Spain's most impressive underground treasures. It doesn't stand out for its size, but it does for the incredible variety of geological formations it houses: stalactites, stalagmites, underground lakes... it has it all! Each room seems like something out of a fairy tale. It's an experience that must be experienced in person, because no photo could capture the beauty hidden underground. And that's part of the dilemma: they don't allow photos or videos during the visit, which can disappoint those who want to share the experience. Upon entering, they take your photo in front of a chroma key that they then try to sell for €10, which feels somewhat forced. Even so, the visit is totally worth it. It's a must-see in Huelva, and a natural gem that will leave you speechless. Ideal for lovers of geology, nature, and unique places. The historic public laundry facility was constructed during a period when homes lacked water supply and modern washing machines. Notably, the roof's facade features a remarkable orthodox icon depicting Panagia holding Jesus. The stone stool located along the entire length of the laundry room, where women sat to rest and talk, is striking. In the past, water was obtained from the Grotto of Wonders. My grandmother and my mother, daughters of the town, told me that in winter the water was so cold that they had chilblains on their hands. Wonderful memories and valuable information obtained through historical memory that helps us understand what life was like in the not-too-distant past. Place worth visiting if you are in the area.
