Nizwa Fort, a 17th-century fortress built over 12 years under Sultan Bin Saif Al Yaruba's rule, features an impressive round tower and cannons at the entrance. The fort offers panoramic views of date plantations and the Hajar Mountains. As the historical capital of Oman, Nizwa was a center for trade and culture, attracting writers, poets, scientists, and religious leaders.
A great historical place to visit. I bought the ticket and visited the fort in the morning, but it was possible to return in the afternoon to watch the sunset with the same ticket. Really beautiful!
Emmyli S — Google review
Nizwa Fort is a significant historical landmark that attracts many tourists eager to explore its rich history and impressive architecture. The nearby souq area is just a short walk away and is definitely worth visiting for its traditional shops, local crafts, and vibrant atmosphere. While the entry fee is slightly higher than expected, the experience of exploring the fort and its surroundings makes it well worth it.
Laiju L — Google review
Nice place to go. It’s possible to arrive in the morning and leave in the evening. Deep inside, I wished to see something more like it’s original - more raw, maybe - but the place is rebuilt. Make sure to eat the crepe there. Fort and market are in the same place, so don’t worry. about transport between them. The market is very nice. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to go to the real ruins.
Lorena M — Google review
Nizwa Fort is one of the many forts in Oman, but definitely one of the prettiest. The views and photo opportunities here are stunning, and the atmosphere is incredible. Walking around in the heat can be challenging, but there are plenty of shady spots to take a break. Don’t forget to try the food from Mrs. Ruqiya - it’s a delicious bonus to the visit!
Ihar B — Google review
The staff are very friendly. There are a few spots which have air conditioning but the rest is hot. We went in the afternoon to avoid the crowds and it was nice to have the fort almost to yourself. Might be good to get a tour guide if you’re interested in the history.
Taylor F — Google review
Nizwa is a must-visit! Rich in history and culture, with a beautiful fort and lively souq. Great place to explore Omani heritage and enjoy local food and crafts.
Crystal O — Google review
The fort is a remarkable historic site and one of Oman’s most visited landmarks. Built in the 1650s by Imam Sultan Bin Saif Al Ya’rubi, with foundations dating back to the 12th century, the fort beautifully showcases Omani architectural skill and military ingenuity. The massive round tower 30 meters high and 36 meters wide stands as the fort’s centerpiece, featuring thick defensive walls, narrow staircases, hidden shafts, and even “murder holes” once used to defend against intruders. Inside, the maze of rooms, terraces, and passageways offers a vivid sense of what life was like centuries ago. The fort’s history, from its use as an administrative center to its clever defensive systems like underground water streams and storage cellars, makes it an educational and memorable visit. It can get quite busy, especially on weekends, and more interactive exhibits or guides would make the experience even better but overall, it’s a must see for anyone visiting Nizwa.
Abdulkarim A — Google review
Pretty nice tourist attraction, I love that Oman stick to their traditions and the government really cares about preserving their culture and heritage. I had lots of fun looking around the castle and I also visited the Souq Nizwa.

Nizwa Souq is a vibrant marketplace in Nizwa, Oman, offering an immersive experience into the local culture. The souq features dedicated sections for various goods such as fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish. Additionally, it is known for its exquisite handicrafts and silver jewelry, including the renowned silver khanjar. Visitors can explore traditional crafts and savor Omani cuisine while taking in the bustling atmosphere of the market.
A beautifully restored heritage market that offers an authentic glimpse into Omani culture, craftsmanship, and history. Well worth the trip from Muscat. --- ✅ Positive Aspects: • Historic charm: Located within a walled and renovated area, the souq preserves the essence of traditional Omani architecture and atmosphere. • Handicrafts and heritage goods: A central hub for silverware, pottery, spices, textiles, and other artisanal products that reflect the region’s cultural identity. • Cultural immersion: Ideal for travelers seeking a deeper connection with Oman’s past and present through local interactions and authentic shopping. • Nearby attractions: Just steps away from Nizwa Fort and other historical landmarks, making it a rich cultural stop. • Accessible from Muscat: About 1.5 hours by car, making it a feasible and rewarding day trip.
Wael N — Google review
Visiting Nizwa Souq was an absolutely delightful experience! I was so happy the moment I stepped in — the entire place is full of vibrancy, color, and authentic Omani culture. From the lively atmosphere to the friendly local vendors, everything beautifully reflects the heart of Oman. The souvenirs are truly special — handmade crafts, silver jewelry, pottery, and traditional Omani goods that carry the essence of this country’s heritage. Every corner tells a story, and the scent of spices, frankincense, and Arabic coffee makes the experience even more memorable. If you want to feel the real Oman, Nizwa Souq is the place to be — a perfect blend of tradition, warmth, and timeless charm. 🌿🇴🇲✨
RAHUL N — Google review
Nizwa Central Souq is an absolutely beautiful place, perfect for photos and experiencing something unique. However, as a traditional souq, I didn’t quite feel the usual lively vibe. Perhaps it was the heat, or maybe the rules, but no one really approached you. On one hand, it’s nice to stroll without being bothered, but even when I tried to buy something, it felt like no one really cared. Still, it’s worth visiting for its beauty and atmosphere.
Ihar B — Google review
Nizwa Central Souq and its surrounding area are the main reasons I visited Nizwa, traveling so many kilometers from Muscat. The market area has a timeless charm, with narrow lanes, traditional shops, and local crafts that feel like stepping into an Aladdin-era setting. The famous Nizwa Fort is also very close, adding to the historical and cultural experience. Don’t miss trying the local Halwa—it’s famous for being incredibly tasty!
Laiju L — Google review
A very full souq (traditional market) with something for everyone. The inner souq has a wide spread of aromatic coffee and dates, authentic Omani frankincense and myrrh, soaps, halawa sweets, local veggies and more. The outside soups are where you go to find pottery, jewelry and the emblematic Omani knifes (khanjar) along with rare guns like vintage Martini Henry rifles. One shop even has a collection display (not for intl sale) of ancient rhino hide buckler style shields. Come to the Nizwa souq if you want to get all your souvenir shopping done in one go, and see some interesting cultural pieces along the way.
Daniel S — Google review
Nizwa Central Market is a beautifully restored heritage site that truly captures the heart of Omani culture, craftsmanship, and history. Surrounded by old fort walls and traditional architecture, the market offers a charming mix of sights, sounds, and colors. Visitors can explore shops filled with handmade silver jewelry, pottery, frankincense, spices, and textiles, each reflecting Oman’s rich heritage and local artistry. The atmosphere feels both historic and lively, with friendly vendors and authentic Omani hospitality everywhere you turn. Located just beside the iconic Nizwa Fort, it’s an ideal spot for travelers who want to experience authentic Oman beyond the modern cities. Only about 1.5 hours from Muscat, this market makes for a perfect and rewarding cultural day trip.

Very beautiful and well maintained place in Nizwa! Definitely worth the visit and also a good place to buy pure oils and taste the delicious 100% fresh juice of pomegranate.

A glimpse of an Omani culture with the restored market/Souq. Come early to see the different auctions and the main sections (vegetables, fish, sweets etc ... And Friday the sheep market - a must see!)

Falaj Daris Park, located north of the old town in Nizwa, Oman, offers a glimpse into the impressive Falaj Daris irrigation system. This 7990m-long channel is one of the largest in Oman and holds UNESCO recognition. The park features a clear water stream named Daris with abundant fish and serves as a heritage site for visitors to enjoy family outings and capture memorable photos.
W small yet very beautiful park with a water spring inside it and there is anice cafe at the entrance
Ray M — Google review
Normal size park with flowing stream. Water was crystal clear but the water channel is not clean. Has fungi and mose. Separate area for slides and swings is also there
Osman R — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️A beautiful blend of history, engineering, and nature – perfect for family time! Falaj Al Daris is truly one of the hidden gems of Oman, located in the historic city of Nizwa. It’s not just a water channel — it’s a masterpiece of ancient Omani engineering. The falaj system here is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is still functioning today, proving how advanced and sustainable the traditional water management systems were, even centuries ago. The water flows continuously through well-designed channels that are both beautiful and functional. What’s amazing is how this falaj still supports local agriculture and greenery, especially in the public park around it. The park itself is clean, green, and a peaceful spot to relax. You can sit under the trees with your family, enjoy a picnic, and let the kids play around safely. One of the best parts? You can dip your feet in the flowing falaj water or even take a refreshing bath if the weather is hot — just like the locals do! The water is cool, and it feels great, especially during summer. It’s a simple but unique experience you won’t find anywhere else. Overall, Falaj Al Daris is a good spot for nature lovers, families, and anyone interested in Omani heritage. A mix of culture, history, engineering, and natural beauty — highly recommended if you’re visiting Nizwa!
Usama S — Google review
Falaj Daris Park is the kind of place that makes you question the definition of “park.” A few trees, some shrubs doing their best to look important, and that’s it. Maybe in Oman this qualifies as green space, but anywhere else it’s just… land with plants. And then there’s the UNESCO plaque. Slapped on like a gold star on a half-finished homework, making UNESCO look like they hand out prestige for showing up. If you’re expecting lush gardens, benches under shade, or even a reason to linger—don’t. The best part is probably the exit.
Wade W — Google review
It is a nice park with a stream of water flowing through and a spectacular view of the mountains. Mostly, local families bring their kids to swim there. But the parking is quite limited and seems full during the weekend/public holiday.
Zunaira A — Google review

It been 10 years since my last visit to this Park. I admit that I was very surprised how beautiful this park since my last visit. This park is the best place for family and friends gathering. Also A natural outlet for walking. Falaj Daris can be seen inside the park. Park service: 1) coffee shop. 2) Ice cream 🍦. 3) caffe. 4) bathroom. 5) kids play zone 🛝.

Spacious layout with a variety of stores, restaurants, and a large Lulu Hypermarket. Clean, family-friendly, and centrally located. Ample parking space. However, car parking shade could be improved, especially in the hotter months.

Wilson T — Google review
Nizwa Mall is a clean and aesthetically pleasing place to visit. It’s never too crowded, which makes shopping and walking around quite relaxing. The mall is well-maintained with a calm ambiance and modern design. While the food options are a bit limited, the overall experience is peaceful and enjoyable.
RAHUL N — Google review
13.07.2025 went there for a walk. small in size and has little options. seemes it still has some ooen places for rent but not been occupied yet the design of the mall is nice. having an open area can utlised for events which is good. but the way it has been designed for reaching from center then you need to go to branch, and getting back to center to get back to other branch, is not a good option in my opinion plenty of parking
Ahmed A — Google review
A very good super market, everything available here, grocery, electronics, electrical, famous fast food brands and medicines everything. You may find indoor games like billiards, snooker, bowling etc. here. Washroom were super clean like all over Oman. A amazing place for shopping with vast parking area
Jahangir B — Google review
Nice place for shopping, and there is an ice skiing field in the mall along with other fun activities that can be done here for young adults. You can find Carrefour for grocery shopping. The restaurants options are relatively good with some great cafe's options. The toilets are kept mostly clean, but toilet seats are a bit dirty due to people standing on them with their shoes rather than sitting.

Beautiful architecture. So peaceful. The female section is spacious enough. They have an elevator, too. Toilets were okay, perhaps a little old, but mostly clean. There's plenty of parking space.

I did not know there was a grand mosque in Nizwa until I visited Nizwa Sultan Quboos Mosque. Masha Allah, a beautiful mosque, absolutely stunning architecture and one of the most beautiful landmarks in Nizwa! The mosque is grand, peaceful, and impeccably maintained. The intricate details of the interiors, especially the chandelier and carpet in the main prayer hall, are truly breathtaking. Ample parking is available and a separate section for ladies as well. A must-visit spot in Oman — both for its spiritual beauty and architectural brilliance.
Rahil F — Google review
The mosque is unique with a big prayer hall surrounded by a podium built within sophisticated landscape. The mosque has a main minaret standing four towers. The main attraction is the architecture depicting the various Islamic civilization around the world. The main prayer hall is decorated with a single piece hand woven carpet and the interior finished with Marble. The Mosque has an Islamic Study Center also. And a big library. Altogether it is a marvelous piece of religious monument expensively and tastefully built with utmost care - which one should not miss to visit while in Muscat, Oman. Note: The Mosque is open for public on all days

Nestled at the base of the stunning Hajar Mountain range, Wadina Water Park in Nizwa has emerged as a premier destination for both locals and visitors alike. This vibrant water park is packed with thrilling attractions, including exhilarating slides and inviting pools that cater to all ages. While Nizwa experiences scorching summer temperatures that can soar above 40 degrees from May to September, Wadina Water Park offers a refreshing escape from the heat.
If your looking for some waterpark fun, add this place in your itinerary. But make sure you have appropriate swimwear (e.g SWEAT SHIRT AND LEGGINGS for ladies) as they have strick rules in swim wear. clean shower room with locker/ changing room. Challenging slides which makes it so much fun and a lazy pool as well. Kids really enjoyed it.

Very good weekend destination, especially for those who live in the Muscat area and enjoy water activities with their families. Everything was excellent and fantastic. One thing that is very common and unfair to most expatriates is that the price is set with bias. Another issue is that if we purchase a ticket, we will have access to all facilities rather than just a portion of them.
MUHAMMAD Q — Google review
Quite a small water park, but a fun day out for the children. They do not allow bikinis/swimming costumes... So make sure you take a t-shirt and long gym type pants. There is a shop there to buy these things if you dont have it. I also recommend you pack up some food and drinks to take.

Location - convinient. near Lulu nizwa Ticket rates - bit on higher side compared to no. of rides. But rate chart is clear. Less than 1 yr and above 50 go free. no extra charges inside the park for rides. Lockers available at cost. but dont expect a suitcase to fit in. Clothes - strictly no cotton. swimwear available for sale in park. Cleanliness - Good. water also clean. slides, tubes and mats clean and well maintained. every ride has attendant. Food - coffee shop within park. Overall well maintained and enjoyable.

Add a very special experience to your visit to Nizwa. Cool down by visiting Wadina Theme Park. It is very simple and exciting theme park that are well designed and rich in games. Suitable for families. The disadvantages More shaded areas are needed More seats and seating areas are needed
Khalid M — Google review
Very few employees are doing their job, most of them are not working. The best example is in the lazy river ride most of them were struggling to get out of it after the ride, but no one is helping. No temperature control for the waters, so most of the kids are not able to play for a long time. At least temperature control should be provided for kids area. Floors are started deforming, maintenance required. Only swim suits ( non cotton ) are allowed. They have shops to buy swim suits but they are costly. Lockers, toilets, dressing rooms, and showers are nice.

What an experience! What treasures! What a rich part of history they have preserved so exquisitely! You are transported back to those ages with finesse. Definitely a must watch for all. Highly recommended to students and teachers here who are dealing with history and geography! It’s priceless . When you are looking to rest and eat a bit. You have a beautiful coffee shop! With an exotic view!

The most boring museum I’ve visited. It’s very small, with only a few crafts on display and no explanation of their significance. Not worth the two riyals.
Diyar W — Google review
A cute place to spend an hour or so. It’s 2 rials (less than £4) for foreigners. Beautiful doors and windows as examples of Omani woodwork and assorted historic paraphernalia about. Most have English translations but some are in Arabic. I think what’s most frustrating is most items don’t have time stamps so you don’t know old most items are. Regardless, I enjoyed poking around the brightly lit, ACed space.

Dejavu 🔆💟🌧️🌄❄️❤️ It was goosebumps for me when I visited this very wonderful Omani landmark. When I stepped in, it really felt that I had been here a long time ago. Dejavu. I hope that everyone will take good care of this respectful place and may the government keep this well maintained. Overall, this is truly one of Oman's proof of great early civilizations through magnificent records of barter systems and artifacts. Beautiful history, culture, tradition and people. I love Oman ❤️

Nizwa Museum, nestled in the historic city of Nizwa, offers a glimpse into Oman’s rich cultural and historical heritage. The museum features well-curated exhibits, including traditional artifacts, weapons, pottery, and detailed displays about the region’s history and its significance as a trading hub. The architecture of the museum blends beautifully with the surrounding historical landmarks, making it a visually appealing experience. However, the entry fee of 5 Omani rials feels disproportionately high compared to the overall experience. While the museum provides valuable insights, its modest size and the limited number of exhibits make the pricing difficult to justify for many visitors, especially families or budget travelers. For comparison, other cultural sites in Oman offer a similar or better experience at a lower cost. Despite the cost, the museum’s staff are friendly and knowledgeable, adding depth to the visit with their explanations. The location near the iconic Nizwa Fort and bustling souq adds convenience, making it a decent stop if you’re already in the area. However, unless you’re a history enthusiast or have a strong interest in Omani culture, the high entry fee might make this museum less appealing for casual tourists.

A comprensive tour by Anas of Nizwa, who had incredibly in depth knowledge of every nook and cranny of the area. I would suggest getting one as soon as you arrive to get a feel for all of the restaurants and hotels and potentially get a better rate than if you booked online.

Nizwa Old Town is a captivating destination with its ancient, weathered houses and one of the country's oldest mosques. While non-Muslims are not allowed to enter the mosque, visitors can explore the historical houses and learn about the region's rich history from knowledgeable guides. The area also offers opportunities to experience traditional customs and events, as well as marvel at the beauty of the past.
Loved the historic old town. We reached Friday night and it being the weekend the old town was buzzing with locals and the whole place was alive. Loved the walk, cafes, old streets with building ruins giving the earthy feel. Highly recommend visiting the place Friday morning to experience live stock market and buzzing evening. Take a walk across the high wall which connects various cafes and restaurants also.
Kaushal S — Google review
Loved the area! The fort was so impressive and enjoyable to explore all the small rooms, corridors and rooftops. Worth the visit! The souq is also beautiful but was mostly closed due to the time we were there at. Must go morning or after 4pm!
Alice N — Google review
Quite dissappointing. Plenty of ruined houses. There is moreover rubbish and trash around some of the ruined houses... Why do people not clean up after themselves? Is that so difficult? Historical cities similar to Nizwa in Morocco are actually often cleaner even though Morocco is not as rich and well off as is Oman.
Olivier V — Google review
Great atmosphere, especially in the late afternoon after 4 PM. Note that everything closes from about 2 to 4 because of graders during the weekdays at least. A lot of nice coffee, shops and small businesses. Much better than Al Hamra.

Great market here but stay away on rainy days as it is actually in the middle of the Wadi. Cattlefeed, agricultural products, fish etc. Used cars are also sold here. Great food is also sold here. Tanuf Castle Ruins, located near Nizwa, offer a fascinating glimpse into Omani history and traditional architecture. Visitors can freely explore the ancient ruins and discover old pottery sherds scattered around the area. The 400-year-old mosque situated at the edge of the castle ruins is still in use, adding to the historical charm of the place. Additionally, there's a wadi at the back where locals enjoy swimming and even jumping from its edge.
Really cool and interesting place, where you should definitely make a short stop. Some houses are still in good shape, so you can imagine how the houses looked like in the past. When we visited the ruins (November), we were the only visitors.

Heard of Tanuf as a water bottling company but didnt know there were ruins here. Visited this place as part of a day trip to Nizwa and was happy to see the place as there are not many places like this one can explore. But at the same time I was disheartened as there seems to be nothing done to keep the place from falling apart other then leaving it untouched. A few strong showers will definitely bring this place down and all that will remain will be pictures we click. If you are interested in seeing these ruins and also the ones in Birkat Al Mouz, I suggest you dont postpone your trip further.
