Playa Contramar is a charming cobblestone beach with gentle waves and stunning scenery. However, the natural beauty of half the beach has been marred by an unsightly stone patio built by the owners of Villa Luna Kuku. Despite its challenging access route, it offers a serene and secluded atmosphere, making it less crowded than other beaches. This hidden gem is perfect for relaxation and snorkeling.
My favorite beach. No vendors, no restaurants just a relaxing beach. Gorgeous at sunrise and sunset
Robb G — Google review
It's a bit of a walk down a rugged trail. Small horse shoe bay with crystal clear water with lots of fish to see in the ruins

Amazing and quiet place where you can relax because it doesn't get as populated as the other beaches because of its location being almost hidden.

Beach
Playa las Gatas is a beautiful and calm beach in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. It offers a long stretch of sand with options to dine and relax under umbrellas. Accessible by a short boat ride from Zihuatanejo or a walk from La Ropa Beach, the crystal-clear waters make it perfect for swimming. Boats can be taken across the bay for 80 pesos round trip, providing an enjoyable way to reach this serene destination.
Very nice beach. Clear water, but very shallow and rocky. Lots of food places. Usually food places charge you $200 pesos for sun beds. You can get there by boat from Principal beach for $80 pesos round trip or 10 minutes hike from Playa La Ropa (free).
Sean T — Google review
Beautiful little beach with many options for dining, snorkeling, massages. Clean, calm water, and not too crowded. And the boat taxi is added fun! Rocky hike to La Ropa takes about 15 minutes.
Sarah W — Google review
The beach is beautiful. The sheer amount of plastic and garbage on the beach and water is not nice. I saw more plastic while snorkeling than fish. It would be an amazing beach if the restaurants didn't line up to water line and the garbage was cleaned up. Go all the way to the end of the beach if you want to get away from the crowds and music from the restaurants.
Kru — Google review
Beautiful Calm water and highly Swim-able Can get here with a boat (80 pesos) from Zihu town or walk from LaRopa beach.
ANDRE A — Google review
I really enjoy Playa Las Gatas, it's a calm beach, with clear blue water, protected by a reef/rocks. It is great for families, restaurants line the beach so you can have drinks, food and shade right at the waters edge, while kids play in the sand/water. Some good resting spots are Arnoldos, food and drinks are good but gets busy and is close to beach entrance so high foot traffic area. Personally we enjoy Franco's amazing hospitality at Otilia. Location is great, right at the end of the beach, lighter foot traffic, food is OK, drinks are good. Grab a bucket of beer on ice, some coconut shrimp or whole fried garlic snapper and sit back and enjoy the beach. Franco is really the highlight though, what a great guy and really takes care of his customers. Also don't miss the onsite masseuse, she is fantastic too
Didier S — Google review
Nice long beach with places to eat and enjoy an umbrella. Best is to take a small boat across bay from Zihuatanejo for 80 pesos return.

Beach
Principal is a serene beach where you can witness local fishermen setting out to sea at sunrise and returning with fresh catches like tuna and snapper. You can purchase the day's haul and explore the waterfront boutiques. The area also hosts community events, making it a hub for locals and tourists alike. Along the beach, you'll find restaurants offering delicious food, while shells adorn the sand for a picturesque view.
Friday, Saturday nights there are events. Lots of people have fun.

Beach
La Ropa Beach, known as Clothes Beach, is a renowned destination in Zihuatanejo. Its name originates from a shipwreck that occurred centuries ago, causing a significant amount of cargo and clothing to wash ashore. This picturesque beach boasts the Sotavento and Catalina hotels, formerly one establishment managed by doa Eva. La Ropa Beach's allure is heightened during the off-season when its beauty shines even brighter.
Awesome stretch of authentic Mexican old school fishing village. This hidden gem of Mexican Pacific Coast beach is extraordinary and very worthy of visiting. There’s at least a week or 10 days or a couple weeks of things to do, I’ve been here a month and it’s been awesome.
Ash C — Google review
Great beach. Clean, spacious, great views and sunsets. Lots of hotels at varied prices. From Centro you can take the Combi here for 12-13 pesos, try to ride outside shift change rush, as they are all full of workers at that time. You can also walk. From the Kioto traffic circle follow the sign to La Ropa, on Palmar St., and up the hill it turns into Escenica La Ropa. After you reach the peak of the hill and start to decend, you'll see a sign for the hotel La Casa Que Canta -this steep concrete path will take you right down to the north end of La Ropa beach. Its easy in a decent pair of shoes. Alternatively, you can skip this path and stay on Escenica La Ropa until you reach the Dolphins, and turn right down to the beach. It is a sweaty walk in the heat of the day, but less onerous in the morning or evening.
Chris O — Google review
Came here the first week of April and sad to say, the beach did not meet my expectations. I wanted to do some snorkeling but I couldn't even see 12 inches down in the water. I did meet several people that said it's not normally like this, so hopefully this was a rare experience. The sand was nice and much better than the other places in the area. But as for this experience, we have better beaches and sand in the Indiana dunes, lake Michigan.

Beaches
Playa El Palmar is the main beach in Ixtapa, Mexico, known for its two-kilometer stretch of soft sand and powerful waves. It's lined with high-rise hotels and resorts, making it a convenient choice for accommodation. The beach offers a picturesque setting with pristine white sands and clear turquoise waters, perfect for a relaxing vacation experience. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as golfing at nearby courses or arranging private dinners or sailing trips around Ixtapa.
Best beach in the area, even better than La Madera, La Ropa or Las Gatas in Zihuatanejo, although all three of those are nice as well. By far the longest stretch for walking. Big waves in the morning hours. Lots of locals on the weekends that make it magical & slightly crowded, but still completely navigable. Three entry points, two close to massage huts. Sand is perfect with no obstructions or rocks-you can go barefoot the whole beach! Sunsets are stunning, as expected. Sunrises are not spectacular-mountains block the view, but it is less crowded & not nearly as hot.
Matthew G — Google review
Nice beach for booth boarding, if you wind up with a wavy day. Otherwise, usually very calm and serene. The water is beautiful but it’s not crystal clear, having some seaweed around
Matt M — Google review

Amazing beach with lots of activities and fun. Clean beach but the entry area smells very bad. Otherwise it's a must visit and beautiful beach.
Candida C — Google review
Excellent place to enjoy the beach and swim in the ocean. There aren’t high waves, however you have to be aware of the sudden high waves. You can rent a space to hang out and eat your own food, they also sell food and drinks there in case you didn’t bring them with you.
Lucia V — Google review
The water was warm, there was plenty of places to sit and relax and there was tons of great food. It's a bit crowded, but everyone is so nice, so it doesnt really matter. Theres tons of things to do on the water, but I reccomend parasailing. Super easy and extremely fun! Not to mention very cheap. I think I spent just about $7 USD for 2 people. So worth it!!

Coffee shop
If you're a coffee enthusiast like me, then Café Caracol Suc. La Madera is an absolute must-visit when you find yourself in Zihua. This charming little coffee shop offers a delightful selection of strong and flavorful brews that are perfect for kickstarting your day. I made it a point to stroll over every morning during my visit from Canada, especially since the trek back up that hill could be quite the workout!
As a coffee lover, I'm always on the lookout for delicious coffee, and I found what I was looking for in this little coffee shop! When in Zihua, Café Caracol is definitely on my todo list.
Dani E — Google review
Coffee is very good. We went one day and liked it so much we went the next, but the gal at the counter was by herself and very busy. The day before there were two people working the counter. I waited about 10 minutes and a woman walked in front of me and asked to pay her bill, then a vendor came and walked in front of me and asked her to pay for some thermoses. At this point I was there for almost 15 minutes and still didn’t have my order taken, so I just left and went to another coffee shop. I guess they didn’t want my money. A shame because Cafe Caracol’s coffee was better and a little less expensive. I don’t blame the girl at the counter, maybe they need another employee to help her like they had the day before. Their coffee is very good and that’s why this place is too busy for just one person.
Mickey C — Google review
Great coffee. I come here for the frappe, nice and cold on a hot day.

Hiking area
Playa Manzanillo, also known as Clothes Beach, boasts a stunning white-sand stretch with a fascinating history. It was named after a Spanish galleon that wrecked there, carrying a cargo of silks that washed ashore. The beach offers various activities such as swimming, snorkeling, hiking, and mountain biking. However, accessing the beach can be challenging due to its location at the bottom of a steep hill.
(Translated by Google) It is a very beautiful beach, to get there you have to go down a whole hill.
Pedro G — Google review
(Translated by Google) Playa Manzanillo is certainly a beautiful and secluded place with a lot of privacy - if you are looking for absolute peace and quiet, you will find it here. Unfortunately, the beach itself is hardly convincing. Access is difficult and there is hardly a real sandy beach - instead stones, pebbles and rocks dominate, making it unsuitable for non-swimmers or families with children. The place also offers little underwater: the visibility is severely limited by the cloudy sand and the strong waves, and the underwater world is not very attractive. If you're looking for a real beach experience, you're much better off at one of the other beaches in Zihuatanejo.

Playa Las Gatas is a stunning beach that beckons adventurers and relaxation seekers alike. Nestled in a serene cove, this picturesque spot features soft white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters, perfect for unwinding under the sun. The beach is lined with charming open-air restaurants where you can indulge in fresh seafood and refreshing cervezas while enjoying the tranquil atmosphere.
Pretty cool beach to spend one of your days or a portion of the day. Plenty of restaurants on the beach. Slightly pricey, but it's because it's a very touristy area. You can pay for a ride on a banana floatie, snorkeling, and other stuff. Cool mangroves at walking distance. The water is shallow pretty far out, but there's a lot of dead coral. Highly recommend footwear for water. They sell water shoes there, but my velcro Tevas did just fine.
Omar D — Google review
The beach is great. The only reason it's not a 5 star is because of the small coral on the beach and in the water can make it difficult to walk. Bring some water shoes. Also the beach faces north so all of the chairs provided are in the shade. The water is turquoise calm and warm. It also is shallow (waste deep) a long way out. Playa Las Gatas is a must see. The water taxis are the only safe way to get to.the beach. They are a fun short adventure to start your day trip. It's 100 pesos for a return trip.
Steve H — Google review
Nice, smaller beach with endless restaurants for most of the length of the beach. Calmest waves around. There is a break about 100 yards from shore that makes for calm waters & a sense of easy, safe, shallow snorkeling right from your chairs at any of the restaurants. You'll see some fish & maybe a small stingray & you'll be able to stand up all the way out & back. Probably no more than 5' deep at the most along most of the shore out to the break. Restaurants are by far, seafood focused but have enough options for other tastes. We had tacos & fajitas. A little pricey, but it is a tourist destination. You can take a quick(<5 minutes ), inexpensive boat trip from La Madera or, walk a path along the shore that is very rocky, has some ups & downs, but VERY doable. Wife did it in flip-flops & a sundress & we saw one guy carrying a cello the entire way. Takes approximately 12-15 minutes, depending on whether or not you lose your footing & fall into the crashing waves! If you can't be rescued, it'll take significantly longer! Don't be that guy! Again, very safe & doable. 4 ⭐'s only because of the cost. Honestly, the wife's 3 margaritas were more than 1/2 the cost so I'm still recovering from that. Should probably give it 5⭐'s.

Very nice beach perfect for kids, great snorkeling experience nice weather. Does get a bit crowded but I recommend going early leaving early. Won't regret it.
Eddie G — Google review
Lovely beach however I would recommend bringing water shoes as there is a lot of coral in the water. Additionally, pack water and snacks, the restaurants are expensive.

The most beautiful, tropical Caribbean style beach with turquoise water in the whole pacific coast of Mexico. Snorkelling is a must!
Dylan M — Google review
The best beach in Zihuatanejo. Worth the boat ride. Calm clear turquoise water, very gradual depth, all kinds of colorful schools of fish can be observed and perfect sand.
Andrée C — Google review
Once beautiful and clean, recent visit note so great. The water is not clear anymore, they are more strict as to what you can bring in. No speakers allowed,no outside food or drinks, no mesh of water toys allowed. And as for restuarants nor impressed with food, to plain had better in past .. Drinks were not well prepared. Only benefit of restuarants are the tables they offer with shade, of course not free.. You have to consume to sit.

(Translated by Google) Very nice beach with little waves, a bit of stones, you can get there by boat or walking along the shore between the stones from Playa La Ropa.

(Translated by Google) On the main beach the sand is very soft but full of boats, it is difficult to enjoy the beach because of this!!! Safe for children, low waves and depth too. "Las Gatas" beach is a beautiful beach just for walking since it is a beach about 40cm deep, the deepest being three meters without waves. Being a coral beach at the bottom you can't swim because the coral will scratch you!!! It is a beautiful place to see a wide variety of fish, it is clean, well-kept and has warm water.

(Translated by Google) It is the best beach in Zihuatanejo without a doubt. You have to go if you go to visit Zihuatanejo. The climate does not affect its natural beauty in any way. Just check very carefully where to eat in the palapas, some are very expensive and ogetes. Also be careful with the boat drivers, because they usually lie to get you to go with them, the prices vary greatly (Original) Es la mejor playa de Zihuatanejo sin duda alguna.

My husband and I were married at Casa Angelina in January, 2025. It was everything we could have hoped for and more. The biggest highlight being the house manager, Maritza, and the staff as a whole. The staff made sure we had everything we needed at a moments notice whether it was meals, a taxi, or even a pizza ordered. Our favorite moments from the trip were just relaxing and enjoying Casa Angelina with our friends and family. The views, food, and nearby beaches are all incredible. We highly recommend and hope to visit again.

Casa Angelina in Zihuatanejo is truly a slice of paradise. The house itself is absolutely magnificent—beautifully designed, impeccably maintained, and offering breathtaking views of the ocean. Every detail, from the architecture to the decor, reflects thoughtful luxury and comfort. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the incredible staff. Their service was warm, attentive, and seamless, making us feel completely relaxed and cared for throughout our stay. Whether it was arranging meals, helping with local recommendations, or just checking in to ensure we had everything we needed, they went above and beyond. Casa Angelina exceeded all expectations and made for an unforgettable vacation. We can’t wait to return!

I first experienced the beauty of casa Angelina for my wedding, I never thought I’d be able to relive the experience until this trip. It’s safe to say it’s even more beautiful than in my memories. I was able to bring my employees on a thank you trip and they are in love with it as much as I am. From the food, to the location and I can’t even put into words how great the staff was. Truly a memorable experience.

We recently spent two weeks at Casa Angelina and I cannot rave enough! The property is absolutely gorgeous and so fun to stay at. Our house staff, especially Maritza was outstanding. We felt so well taken care of and cannot wait to do it again! Many thanks to Maritza and the lovely staff members ❤️

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Angelina! I booked this property for a joint family vacation / destination wedding. We stayed a full week. All of the staff were professional, kind, and wonderful to have around! We used the grocery and bar stocking, and the chef service was wonderful! The food was all delicious. Truly some of the best we had during our time in Zihua. The concierge was extremely accessible throughout the stay and was incredibly helpful!

We stayed at Casa Angelina for just a few days during a longer trip to Mexico, but those days were the highlight of our trip. We enjoyed every aspect of Casa Angelina. The view is amazing both day and night. The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional. The house itself is modern and is in excellent condition. We had chef service for two days, and the food was outstanding. Overall, this was a remarkable experience. This was one of the very best places our family has ever stayed! Highly recommended.

Playa Larga in Zihuatanejo, Mexico is a lengthy and secluded sandy shoreline that exudes tranquility. It boasts powerful surf and tide pools, making it unsuitable for swimming. However, it offers an abundance of charming restaurants to choose from. This unspoiled beach stretches for about 2 miles and is often uncrowded. Marine life, including whales, can frequently be observed off the coast. Visitors should exercise caution if bringing small children due to the rough waves.
Very beautiful and long beach sprinkled with a few good restaurants. Very large waves so didn't try swimming, but we were glad that we took the time to spend a day there. Most establishments have a fresh water pool on-site for use.

Michael C — Google review
The beach itself its beautiful and the restaurants are awesome and friendly with great food. The day we went at end by the end of July the waves were very harsh and huge, we actually spent our time there on the restaurant's pool since it was safer for smaller children. I was afraid of them swimming on those huge waves.
