Asian fusion restaurant
Asian restaurant
King of Snake is a modern restaurant that offers a unique culinary experience with its creative Korean, Chinese, and Southeast Asian dishes. The dark, red-accented space sets the stage for an adventure through Southeast Asian cuisine. The menu features bold and dynamic options like the 'Crispy Eggplant' dish, which perfectly balances crispy texture with tender insides and a spicy caramel sauce.
We were a group of 13 with a set menu. Some of our group had dietary restrictions. They brought out specific meals for those people and advised what they could and couldn't have due to the ingredients. Very impressed that they took that time to check what they could and couldn't eat. The staff explained each dish clearly. Service was efficient and every dish was delicious. Wine list was comprehensive if a bit expensive. Decor and atmosphere was a winner. Would definitely go again.
Michael H — Google review
My family and I came here twice in 3 days. I felt completely satisfied with the quality of the food and the service. Most of the dishes carry the essence of Southeast Asian cuisine, yet they are also creatively crafted, giving me a feeling of both familiarity and excitement when trying them. A worth-to-go spot for a fine dining in Christchurch CBD 👍 Reservation is recommended.

Incredible dining experience, highly recommend! We were recommended to come here being told it’s the best restaurant in Christchurch and it really doesn’t disappoint, it was certainly my favourite restaurants I’ve been to in New Zealand! We had the duck with mandarin - was perfectly cooked and the skin was so crispy Also had the kung Pao which was so flavourful Plus the wok fried greens as a side and roti It was recommended to have three shared small plates and 1 or 2 large plates but we went straight for two large plates and sides We finished with the toffee date pudding- the best we have had! So soft and delicious The jasmine garden mocktail was also so sweet and delicious- I would love to have that again ! Service was also great, our drinks and food came quickly and our waitresses Harley was lovely, really helpful with any questions we had and explaining the food. Made the experience feel so cared for! It is so beautifully decorated inside If we lived near this area we would certainly want to go more!
Melissa S — Google review
We walked in without a reservation and somehow got lucky with seats at the bar. As Asians living in Asia, we were a little skeptical about how the food would compare to what we have back home -but it absolutely delivered. Every dish was spot on - great flavours, perfectly balanced. The duck was beautifully done: crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside. and the grilled eggplant was a standout. Great service too - warm, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. We Will be back!

We celebrated a birthday dinner here and it was truly exceptional. The menu is crafted with precision and creativity each dish showcased incredible flavor, presentation, and balance. The ambiance was refined yet inviting, with a lively energy that made the evening amazing. The service was attentive and thoughtful, enhancing the overall experience. This restaurant is a true gem in Christchurch and a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience

Dinner at King of Snake was wonderful experience. The staff were friendly warm and welcoming, and the service was exceptional from start to finish. The food was absolutely outstanding , every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. The menu offers a wide variety of options, from fresh seafood to perfectly cook meat. This is without a doubt one of the best dining experiences in Christchurch. If you’re looking for delicious food, amazing service, I highly recommend King of Snake!
Areerat ( — Google review
King of Snake is a modern Asian fusion restaurant perfectly located at the corner of Cambridge Terrace and Cashel Street in Christchurch. The area is lively, with riverside walks, stylish bars, and shops rebuilt after the earthquake. Parking is not allowed directly on the pedestrian street, so we left our car at a paid lot across the river, just a short walk away. Inside, the atmosphere is chic with subtle Asian touches like snake-shaped napkin rings and black-and-gold tableware. We enjoyed fresh oysters on ice, crispy fried oysters, silky Akaroa salmon, and the standout Crispy Pressed Half Duck with orange peel—crispy skin, tender meat, and a fragrant citrus note. The Penang curry beef cheek and Sichuan tofu added spice and variety. Great food, attentive service, and a stylish setting by the river—definitely one of the top dining spots in Christchurch.

Mīharo!! Such an awesome spot to hang out, the Asian fusion was so tasty, every dish was tino reka! We originally planned to eat at King of Snake but arrived around 9pm and they were finishing up, so they sent us next door to their sister cocktail bar, Monarch. At first we were a gutted (for horpaki/context, Google said 11pm closing - we also tried to book the two 9:30pm spots available online but when we processed our booking 1 min later they said they were fully booked! so we quickly took the uber about 8 mins away…) because there were heaps of dishes from the King of Snake menu we wanted to try, plus they’d sold out of oysters and a cocktail we had our eye on. But honestly… once the food started coming out, WOW. Could not fault a single dish. Even though the menu is smaller than King of Snake, there was still heaps of varietyand everything delivered. Also big appreciation to the two bartenders who looked after us so kindly, especially considering we rolled in late on a Monday night (aroha mai 😅). We got grilled scallops*, sticky beef wontons, crispy eggplant* , marinated yellowfin tuna*, sashimi of market fish*, and chicken fried rice balls and 2 cocktails. *was our personal faves.

Food court
Restaurant
Little High Eatery, situated in central Christchurch, is a trendy food court that offers a variety of international cuisine from different eateries. The eatery is known for its tasty Chinese food with options like Great Wall Restaurant, Foo San, King of Snake, Zodiac, and Shanghai Bistro providing diverse and authentic Chinese dining experiences. This reimagined food court houses eight different eateries serving everything from burgers to handmade dumplings and Thai street food.
Super fun place! Quite crowded during lunch/dinner rushes. But the energy is so awesome. Everybody just here to vibe out and eat some really damn good food. I had a wood fired pizza, the Butter Chicken (curry style pizza I think) so delicious, so unique, so worth it. My friend got the Asian food bundle, unsure what specifically but that was also very tasty. Everyone nice enough. Definitely worth coming to check out even if you don't plan on getting anything.
Malea M — Google review
Love the concept of multiple stalls under one roof. The taste was above average though not five star. Price is reasonable by NZ standards. Food came quickly and service was good. Will definitely come back again if I can.
Ritz B — Google review
30 sept / 1 Oct 2025 El fogon grill is nice. Ordered the rump and also platter. Good portion. I haven’t tried Leek with mash before so it’s smtg new and I like it. Noodle monk (Thai food) is also good. We ask for authentic Tomyum soup and they accommodated. Next day, we tried their green curry salmon, lamb shank curry(new item) as well as beef pad kaprao. Beef pad ka prao is something different cause it’s usually pork. It’s nice though! We took the Hot flavor. We did inform the staff again that we don’t want the flavours here (sweeter side), we want something spicy that is similar to Thailand and they DELIVERED. Bacon burger bro - did not try the bacon or burgers but we did try their beer. It’s nice, we tried multiple different beers on the first night. Hard ice tea, lager, ipa, lemon sour and peanut butter salted caramel stout. The next night we came back and order the peanut butter caramel stout. The staff was nice and friendly. Ice cream @ Paleta - tried their tiramisu, peanut butter and strawberry sorbet. Peanut butter and strawberry together is like eating PB and J Overall, food here is good and pretty affordable.

Nice place with loads of options to eat - we got the Asian food: Tan Tan Noodles, pan fried dumplings 🥟, scallion oil pancake with fried chicken (the best dish of that night), and ramen. This would have been a 3* review because the taste of the food was average and there was no depth of flavor from the ramen broth. The Dan Dan noodles flavor came more from the spice than the actual minced meat. I guess the only difference between the pan fried dumplings vs steamed was that the skin was tougher. Would have wanted the skin to be more crispy than tough. Flavor was average. This place is essentially self service so can’t really rate it but the team was very fast in clearing the tables as there was a lot of people on a Friday night (which also happened to be raining). This made it difficult to find a seat but you might have to share tables in order to dine here during peak times. There are lot of options of food and drinks - hence they deserve that 4*. If you are craving for some Asian food, this would be a place to get your fix but don’t expect it to be great tasting.
Shengwen C — Google review
There are heaps of great restaurants here. I went with a burger this time, but it was a tough choice with so many good options. I’ll definitely be back to try some of the other places later.

Food stalls. Got many things: from burger, bbq, asian, drinks (alkohol/non), ice cream. Matcha is proper matcha. 😋 Had steak n burger from diff stalls. Grill pinapple from the steak is good.
Lidya E — Google review
Had noodles and cheese pizza with fries. Serving sizes were small and taste was not the best and felt a bit too oily.
D M — Google review
A great area to hang out with loads of different cuisines on offer from burgers, Thai, Chinese and Pizza at reasonable prices. We got pizza and it tasted amazing, the garlic fries were perfect. We also had a gelato cup which went down great! Cheap drinks and positive vibes.

Dumpling restaurant
Pot Sticker Dumpling Bar is a beloved spot in the city, known for its handmade dumplings and cool urban vibe. Located next to the Dux on Poplar Lane, it's perfect for after-work drinks or weekend catch-ups with friends. The team at Pot Sticker is dedicated to creating legendary dumplings using fresh ingredients and interesting fillings, all made on-site daily.
Couldn't recommend this place even more! Food, service and atmosphere are top tier! It is a perfect hidden gem right in front of the new stadium, which I am sure will be non stop once it opens up! Service is absolute amazing with the staff being so friendly and making you feel so important! What is so cool is that you fill out the menu yourself which makes you feel like you are back at school and an awesome way to do it! I would highly recommend the current special dumplings (pork and daikon), PSDB wontons and the chicken bao. It is a nice little space with the window to the kitchen that you can see the dumpling chefs working their magic, both rooms are very nicely set out and was lucky enough to get one of the booth seats. I did see that they do a Dumpling making course which is definitely something that I will look into, to do as a work activity. I would recommend Potsticker Dumpling Bar over and over again to anyone that asks! 😊
Sandra A — Google review
Love this place!! Best dumplings in Christchurch I reckon. Beef root is my personal favorite. And their sides of greens and cuc salad are delicious also. Highly recommend.
Jo H — Google review
PLEASE DONT COME!!! THIS IS NOT DUMPLING!! 1. The dumplings are obviously not fresh, i guess it is just reheated a bit (not hot at all) 2. The Xiao Lung Bao are terrible, i feel like eating flour, the soup tastes weird and unflavoured 3. The fried wanton is the best dish among all, but not worth to come :) As I sat near the kitchen, and I heard cantonese from the kitchen staff, feeling shamed of being a hongkonger :> the food taste so bad and definitely humiliated the word of "dumpling".
Kassie — Google review
I wish I’d read the recent reviews. The food was super disappointing-if I could give it zero stars I would. We ordered the duck bao buns, pork and coriander dumplings and xiao long bao. The xiao long bao were too big and lacked any flavour. The duck bao buns had two small pieces of duck and the skin was chewy The pork dumplings had a weird texture and also no flavour. Cost us $60 too…Avoid this place!
Leo T — Google review
Always love this place. The bao are especially delicious. Favourite dumplings have got to be the beef and beetroot ones, so good! Service is good and food comes out pretty quickly and piping hot.
Mitch M — Google review
Just ate there. The food was poor as it had clearly been store bought and reheated badly. Could peel the dumpling skin as if it was the dead bits of skin on my feet. What’s meant to be fried dumpling was all soft and hot as if a microwave had reheated it. Don’t let the somewhat nice setup in there deceive you from the meh food. Like if you don’t know how to cook Asian food that’s okay! Just don’t make an Asian restaurant. Make something else instead. Also, the restraunt was basically empty and we got put into a seat with the sun directly in my eyes when there was a free booth right infront of me. Service was good.
Fergus — Google review
I’ve dined at this restaurant before and absolutely loved it, so I was really looking forward to my Uber Eats order. The bao buns were good, but the dumplings were nearly inedible — rock hard in places with some raw patches on the outside, like they hadn’t been cooked properly. They were still warm, so I don’t believe it was a delivery issue. We only managed to eat a few of the 16 before giving up. I’ve sent an email and a follow-up with no response. Really disappointing, especially given the cost and how great my past dine-in experiences have been.
Jessica M — Google review
Such a cool, intimate space. Dumplings were really tasty. Not skimping on the filling. Pork and coriander dumplings have lots of flavor. Staff so wonderful!

Chinese restaurant
Nestled on Blenheim Road in Christchurch, Madam Kwong is a beloved Chinese restaurant that welcomes families with open arms. Open from 11 AM until the early hours of the next day, this spacious two-story eatery boasts an extensive menu filled with delightful Chinese dishes. Diners can explore a variety of options ranging from starters and soups to chef specials, stir-fried delicacies, rice and noodles, as well as tempting dim sum selections.
We had a really good experience here, booked for Yum Cha as was open for Easter Monday. Place was reasonably full but we had great service and the food delivered quickly on the trolleys. Soft drinks were served with ice from the trolley - a nice touch. Bonus was the availability of Takoyaki Octopus Balls - we all loved those. Will be back again

Madam Kwong Restaurant in Riccarton, Christchurch, offers a diverse menu of Chinese cuisine, with a focus on Cantonese and Sichuan dishes. . They also offer dim sum for lunch. The restaurant has a relaxed and efficient atmosphere, and the owners are known for being welcoming hosts. Popular dishes include their Combination Fried Rice and Mee Goreng. They also offer Steamed BBQ Pork Buns and a variety of dim sum options. The restaurant is family-friendly and can cater to both small and large groups. Foods are lovely. At first staff were so busy but then all went good and gave us chocolates for the celebration.
Tesorogonzales G — Google review
The food was delicious but came out 45 minutes after ordering and after many people at my table had already finished their food. A very busy restaurant on a Saturday and can be very loud at times. The staff were friendly.

Review: ⚠️ Customer Alert – As delivery drivers, we believe it’s important to share what we’ve seen. On multiple occasions, this business has left several completed orders sitting on an unattended table with no heat lamps or temperature control. This seems to be their regular practice. The result is food going cold before it’s even picked up, often after long wait times. This is not acceptable. Please keep this in mind before ordering. Thank you for your reply. My review reflects my firsthand observations during pickups, which are relevant to customer experience. I stand by my comments as accurate and written respectfully. ---
Greatness J — Google review
We visited Madam Kwong at 2pm for a late lunch, but unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. The lady in charge of service was quite rude from the moment we arrived. She told us to order quickly in a tone that felt rushed and dismissive. There was no warmth or hospitality in the way we were treated, and my family and I felt unwelcome and judged throughout the short time we were there. We understand restaurants can get busy or have closing times, but there is always a better way to communicate with customers. This kind of service left a very bad impression on us. We were hoping for a nice meal together but walked away feeling uncomfortable and disrespected.
Mae V — Google review
We always go there after worked. The food is tasty and nice portions size. My Indonesian friend he love to order peach 🍑 black tea. It’s make you feel fresh after drinking. Our favourite menu is salted fish fried rice, deep fried squid and chicken congee. And also we order spicy beef fried rices and spicy mee goreng as well. Another things that we love to came here because of the device by the guy name Nanin and lady name Ery. They have very nice customers service that made you feel warm welcome. I and my friends really recommend this restaurant. And the close late night as well that many restaurants were closed but here still open until 1 or 2 am. Good food nice service.
Patrix N — Google review
Absolutely favorite spot, definitely highly recommended for larger groups as easy to over order as sizes are amazing in meals. Though my friend had alot of allergies and they gave her two dishes that were not suitable for her so make sure you doble check when you have required allergy meals.

Well worth a visit. This restaurant has a large selection of Asian Dishes, best suited for sharing. Atmosphere was amazing. Siobhan made sure we had blankets on the deck, moved us to an indoor table when available, recommended the Beef Short Rib which was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

My wife and I are visiting New Zealand from the States on our honeymoon and chose this place for dinner following recommendations we found on Reddit. We ordered the “Trust the Chef” prix fixe option with some mocktails and were absolutely floored by how good it was. We ended up with eight courses: prawn toast, pork wonton, mouthwatering chicken, a xiaolongbao and shumai each, crispy roasted duck in curry, stir fried oyster mushrooms, green beans in XO sauce and tiramisu for dessert. Every course was absolutely delicious, and I particularly loved the prawn toast and the roast duck. The portion sizes were also massive- we ended up with two takeaway boxes and could probably have saved more if we paced ourselves properly. Midnight Shanghai showed us a spectacular meal and I hope to visit them again someday!
Eric C — Google review
It was my friend and I’s first day in New Zealand ever, i saw this restaurant online and said we’re going here and it did not disappoint. We had a lovely server whom I asked what he’d recommend for the flat rice noodles and he said beef (I don’t usually eat beef) trusted him and OH MA GAWD was soooo good. My friend had the shanghai fried noodles and the beef cheek spring roll, again, 10/10. We were sat front of house opposite the kitchen which was fine but would’ve loved to been in the atmosphere more for such an amazing meal. Who cares when the foods that great. Thank you!!

You're in for an amazing experience the moment you step foot into Midnight Shanghai - make sure you come hungry! Staff were friendly, attentive, and informative. So many things on the menu sounded delicious, we will definitely need to go back to try the rest of the things we wanted to try! Beautifully set up restaurant. A little bit on the pricer side, but it's reflected in the quality of your experience

Food is decent, service is quick. The best dish though was probably the sweet and sour pork and the xo beef fried rice, other than that it was too salty or not to our taste!
Javier T — Google review
Midnight Shanghai is a great spot. The scallion pancakes are perfectly crispy and flaky, the orange chicken is packed with flavor and just the right amount of sweetness, and the black pepper beef hot plate comes out sizzling with tender, juicy meat and rich sauce. Great portions, fast service, and cozy atmosphere. highly recommend!

Look at that stack of plates all cleaned! Our group of four ate til we could eat no more. Trust The Chef is generous! And delicious. The kitchen and wait staff were very attentive to one guest's allergy needs, too. Special mention to Chris. Thanks for your conversation and service.
Michele H — Google review
Had a really lovely dinner here before heading off to Illuminate on Thursday night. We ordered two mocktails, the Dragon Lychee Iced tea (not too sweet!) and Lady Luna Cooler (very nice, but sweeter). Would recommend either, the first being much lighter and less sweet. The small plates were deep fried squid and duck and hoisin dumplings. Both were exceptional and very delicious. The medium plates were eggplant fries and Shanghai style pork belly fried rice. The eggplant fries were VERY good, would highly recommend. The pork belly fried rice had very small negligible bits of pork belly. The large plates were the Kong Pao chicken and Popcorn chicken. I expected the Kong Pao chicken to be spicy, but found it rather mild. However the popcorn chicken packed a really delicious spicy powder kick that I really enjoyed and would highly recommend. Only criticism is that all the plates came out really quickly, would have been nice to have the started come out with a bit more added time to consume and enjoy before the rest came out. Otherwise, really enjoyed our experience, the staff were really lovely and informative and the atmosphere was nice.

The China Kitchen is a popular Chinese restaurant in Christchurch, New Zealand that offers fresh, delicious dumplings made without MSG. The restaurant has an extensive menu of popular Chinese dishes and is great for family dining. The website is up to date and the menu is available online.
The food was delicious, a good variety of Chinese cuisine on the menu. The staff are very friendly with a simile. Nice background music. There are some parking directly behind the restaurant. The kitchen is visible so you can see the chefs in action.

Not being from Christchurch we wanted some Chinese and found this place which we decided to try. A little on the pricey side but we really enjoyed our dishes, honey bbq pork is delicious, great sweet and sour pork, satay chicken, combination fried rice and singpore noodles. Would come back so highly recommend.

Loved the lychee duck red curry. When you're used to Chinese takeaways you forget just how good restaurants like this are. The water had a nice refreshing lemon in it without it being too much. I'll be back again to try a different menu item, there's a good range to choose from.

Used to be their regular customer when their restaurant was in central city. Went there for a father's day lunch with my son today. Really happy that they maintaine their excellent service and consistently serving good and authentic Chinese meals with reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Excellent food, large variety of flavours that will suit anyone looking for a beautifully executed meal, great friendly service. Really quick food . Every aspect is good and clean! From bathrooms to kitchen. Friendly, attentive and happy staff. Highly recommended.

Excellent food. More expensive than some but extra large servings that more than made up for the price. Restaurant temperature was cool at lunchtime. The large number of Asian clients tells us how good the food was.

Thai Chef's Restaurant in Christchurch offers a relaxed atmosphere and a diverse menu featuring classic and vegetarian options. Inspired by Asian street vendors, the restaurant serves dishes like Hanoi Pork Meatballs, Roti Hawker rolls with fried fish and coconut sauce, Lemongrass Chicken Skewers, as well as traditional Thai and Vietnamese specialties such as the 'Hoi An' Bowl and Green Peppercorn Chicken.
This is one of the best Thai restaurants I have tried! I have satay skewers at every Thai restaurant I go to, and these were by far the best I've had so far. There was plenty of sauce, meat, and veggies on all of the meals. The menu was extensive, clearly marked for allergies, and had a range of prices, so it is great for people on different budgets. The staff were friendly, the drinks and food came out fast even though they were busy, and the atmosphere was cozy but still classy and spacious.

Thai Chef’s Restaurant truly delivers an authentic Thai dining experience — every dish is bursting with flavor, perfectly balanced, and beautifully presented. The ingredients taste incredibly fresh, and the attention to detail in every plate shows real passion from the kitchen. The staff are warm, especially Nattakorn, attentive, and genuinely make you feel welcome, which adds to the cozy and inviting atmosphere. Whether you’re a fan of classic Thai dishes or want to try something new, this place never disappoints. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real Thai flavors with top-notch service. I’ll definitely be coming back again.

The staff were very pleasant, polite and smiling. The food was delicious with generous proportions. I had the prawns and others had pork and the Dynamite Chicken. Prawns were presented nicely and had tails on, and stir fried, medium spicy was not very hot. I don't like deep fried food, but others who had the Dynamite Chicken enjoyed it. They said medium spice was not hot either.

We had a fantastic meal at Thai Chef Christchurch. The food was flavorful and authentic— We especially loved the Pad Thai and Green Curry. The service was friendly and efficient, making the whole experience enjoyable. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed evening out. We’ll definitely be back!

Thai Chef’s Restaurant in Christchurch exceeded all expectations! From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a beautifully decorated space that blends traditional Thai design with a modern touch. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming — perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The menu offers a wide variety of authentic Thai dishes, and everything we ordered was bursting with flavor. Service was friendly and attentive, and despite the restaurant being busy, food arrived promptly. Portion sizes were generous, and prices were reasonable for the quality.

The original Thai taste. I really love this restaurant. Services are exceptional, the waiter is nice and gentle. The food is all excellent. I ordered Beef with Black pepper and my friend ordered Fried Rice. I like fried rice so much. I gave a compliment to the Chef and Kitchen team. A restaurant is huge and there is a funcion room and also Karaoke for singing a song as well. 5 star restaurant. The best Thai restaurant in Christchurch. I will come back again.
Jan S — Google review
This restaurant used to be my favourite for many years, but lately my experience has declined significantly. The quality of the food isn’t what it used to be, and on several occasions, my food order was completely wrong for takeaways. The service has also taken a hit specifically, the duty manager ( Nattakorn T ) was rude and disrespectful, making the atmosphere unwelcoming. Sadly, I won’t be coming back, and I’m not recommending this place when there are so many delightful Thai restaurants in Christchurch to choose from.

Dim sum restaurant
Maxine's Palace is a popular restaurant known for its Westernized dishes, although some find the food not authentic and slightly overpriced. It's advisable to make reservations in advance due to the crowded nature of the place. While some dim sum items like Har Gow and Chee Cheong Fun receive mixed reviews, others praise the service and atmosphere as top-notch. The restaurant offers a commendable culinary experience with generally satisfying flavors, but pricing may be considered high by some.
First review (First visit): Loved the dimsums here. Delicious, fresh and definitely value for money too. And very friendly service catering well to the customer. Recommended! New review (Second visit): Today I also had the BBQ pork buns with the dimsums. And everything again was so delicious. Great value for money.

11/10 dim sum spot. Everything was delicious and fresh. Quick, polite service. Weekends have fresh baked pork and custard buns. Very reasonably priced. Menu has pictures and color coded pricing for each set of items ranging from $5.90 to $9.90 with the odd higher priced dish like the Peking duck. Wish I had more room to try more things. We will definitely be back.

All the dishes including morning Yum Cha and dinner were delicious. Highly recommend booking a table and ordering the Peking duck in advance as it’s often packed.

Best Yamaha in Christchurch 👍 👍 Never let me down. Great customer service, too. Love the food there. 😆 Pricy, but worth it. Amazing Yamaha here. No wonder the great reviews. Customer service is good too. The chill oil is perfect! I'm happy to come back. Thank you. Visited again with husband. He loved it, too. Just one thing concerned about the deep fried squid was a little bit soggy last time was perfect. And their customer service was great too 👍. His jeans got a little bit damaged by the chair and gave us unexpected discounts. Impressed. This restaurant already well presented don't need to recommendation, this restaurant is just brilliant. I really appreciate that.

Been here a few times, but the food keeps getting worse. The pork in the dim sims and other pork dishes had a really strong off-putting taste, couldn’t eat it. The dim sums were super dry with no juice at all.The quality of all the food was really poor. It was an unpleasant experience even after spending money. The only highlight was enjoying the sparkling wine the most.Really disappointing.I definitely won’t be returning.

Was there for dinner, overall it was a great experience. The Peking duck set (duck, vegetable & soup) I felt was reasonably priced and was really hearty, their signature dishes were superb (hot plate lamb and tofu), the fu Rong egg was very generous as well. Overall very well done Chinese dishes 👍 service was great and quick too, dishes were quick to be served and staff were speedy to help us with request for additional plates or bowls.

The Red Bowl Chinese Restaurant is a restaurant in Christchurch specialising in Cantonese and Szechwan dishes. They use fresh local ingredients and traditional recipes from China to present a lovely fusion of two culinary cultures. The food is quite nice and the staff are polite and friendly. The rice noodles were quite nice, but I hope the staff would ask me about the spicy level as I am pretty sensitive to spice.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in Chch, really recommended “Kung Pao Chicken” and “Small potato big dish Chicken ”

Widely-used black bean sauce makes really authentic dim sum However, their serving is really slow. We ordered 6 dim sums. We got told that durian mochi was sold out after 50 mins’ waiting. Egg tarts were cancelled too because it was served cold after 40 mins’ waiting. We spent more than 1 hr for 4 dishes. Felt like a waste of time.

First time to red bowl and had yum cha lunch there. Food is ok but not fantastic. Our pork dumplings(Siu mai) are very dry. Bbq rice vermicelli roll doesn't look very nice. Prawn dumpling taste the best among all those dim sum we ordered.
MC C — Google review
If you’re like me, sometimes all you want for lunch is a hot plate of rice with a few hearty, familiar dishes. I found just that at a humble Chinese restaurant in Christchurch — and the best part? It was only $10. Here’s what I had today: • 🔥 Mapo Tofu – Silky soft tofu with a light kick of spice and that signature numbing flavor. Not too oily, super comforting, and perfect with rice. • 🥬 Stir-fried Celery with Pork – Crisp celery and tender pork slices cooked simply but full of wok hei — tasted just like home cooking. • 🥔 Braised Beef Brisket with Potato – The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the potato soaked up all that rich, savory sauce. It honestly felt like something that had been simmering for hours in a family kitchen. 🍚 Served with a generous portion of steamed white rice, the whole meal felt hearty, warm, and deeply satisfying. No frills, just honest-to-goodness food that reminds you of a meal back home. 📍 If you’re in Christchurch and craving a real Chinese lunch that doesn’t break the bank, this spot is a hidden gem. The dishes change daily too — so there’s always something new to try.

If you're on the lookout for a delightful dining experience that combines Malaysian and Chinese flavors, look no further than Yummy Chinese Cuisine 佳香味. This family-friendly eatery is perfect for group dinners without breaking the bank, making it a favorite among university students. With an enticing lunch menu priced between NZ$14-$16 and an evening selection of noodles and rice under NZ$20, it's both affordable and satisfying.
Fast serving, value got money on lunch menu, cheaper price with massive portion that you can actually be 2 meals!! Have to enquire on vegetarian options as not clearly indicate on menu.

We ordered three dishes for our dinner, including one dish of stir-fried broccoli. Some of the broccoli appeared burned, and the whole dish smelled uncleaned burnt pot, it was inedible. I asked for help from the staff. The dish was taken into the kitchen and brought back to the table, the staff informed me that the chef had "just rinsed the broccoli"! I then tasted the dish, the broccoli was as odorous as before , just less salty!!! Burned food not only tastes aweful, it is also carcinogenic. However, this restaurant insisted to serve the burned food to their clients. This incident reflected a deficiency of a basic standard in food preparation. I will avoid this place in the future.

I really enjoyed the food here. It's Asian food but definitely caters to kiwi taste. The name describes it well... Definitely yummy. Great choice for takeaway too.

For lunch, I ordered takeaway yummy Prawns with coconut. As a take away they provided a small steamed rice, which is not provided if you dine in. The Prawns were nice and a reasonable quantity on some lettuce as a base in the container. The rice was somewhat overcooked but passable. For takeaway meals, they don't provide a fork or napkin unless you ask, so remember to ask if you need it. May try them another time and try another dish. Thank you.

Great to have Chinese food again. Had the Chef's Special, Venison with ginger and spring onions. It came in a hot plate so stayed warm throughout the meal. It was so yummy, and the portion of venison was generous. The fried long beans with sambal was good too. Glad to to drive out of the way for this.

New owners, have done up the place very nicely! Expansive menu, mapo tofu was delicious, lemon chicken was a bit bland and small serving size for price. Overall pretty good worth a visit. Byo available only $3 corkage.

I decided to visit my old haunt Foo San Restaurant. New owners, and highly new prices. I remember I could go there anytime and have a really good meal for 12 dollars. I brought squid pieces, soup and small dumplings. The soup tasted like someone just added 5 mins noodle seasonings into the water and cut up greens.. there was no depth or feeling to the soup. The dumplings were the only things I ate. As for the squid pieces.. gross. They didn't taste like squid, they were rubbery and hard to chew through. I threw them out. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I wish the owners made the new owners keep the recipes for those who loved that place.

Nice Dim-Sum restaurant. We arrived there near the end of the business hour. The staff were still maintaining professional smiles and said "welcome". The dishes there just met my favorite, will revisit sometimes.
John C — Google review
We went for a dinner tonight at this restaurant. Unfortunately they no longer serve dimsum. We ordered sweet and sour fish, lamb with cumin and stir fried pork with vegetables. It looks like the place is newly renovated. The place has a cozy atmosphere now with new wall decorations, and floor covering. This restaurant might have been sold to a new Owner and under new management. Most of the people working in the restaurant is no longer around, except for one lady who is still around. The service is still good and fast. The food are delicious. They serve good tea. Though the food is a bit pricey. However, we missed the dimsum, particularly the siomai, chicken feet, fried squid, the pork buns, the congee and the salted fish fried rice which we always order whenever we have diner here at this restaurant. Hopefully they will be able to serve dimsum for dinner again in the near future.

An unassuming suburban takeout eatery in Riccarton hides inside a Yum Cha restaurant of some local repute. Its definitely an authentic no-thrills establishment with very minimal to be said for the ambience and the service. You wouldn't go there to be wooed or pampered but to fill your belly, and fill our bellies we did! The ordering is done from a sheet on your table which you give to the server, and the food then arrives as-ready. The disadvantage in this system is that arriving very hungry, we did put down for quite a lot of dishes for the 4 of us, unsure of appetites or portion sizes. Halfway through the arrival of the food we realised there was going to be too much but we were committed! Not that this was too much of a drama; they happily provided takeout boxes at the end and we did have a thoroughly good meal. A very large spread; first up the yummy fried things - spring rolls, calamari, chicken wings, so on. The great thing about these were how hot and crisp they were, perfectly cooked. Highlights from the next part of the procession were the steamed pork buns, so light and fluffy, and a golden pan-fried version of the same. Sui Mai in both prawn and chicken versions were perhaps a little sub-par compared to other yum cha we've had, as were the steamed pork rolls. The congee was totally delicious however and the wonton noodle soups were HUGE. I seemed to be the only person in our party with any room for dessert and I would definitely order the Dan Tart (egg custard tarts) again, and forcing myself to consume two further Sesame Seed Sweet Dumplings was a worthwhile pain with their sugary red bean interiors. Jealous the others got to take them home! It was a good meal with friends and given the price point there's reason I'd return for a regular feed.
George F — Google review
This is as good as it gets. Really good Chinese food. Authentic Chinese and kiwi favourites as well. Nice, friendly service. Bathroom has had a major, much needed upgrade. In fact the whole place has been upgraded. We will definitely be back. From the way that the other customers (four different groups, two Chinese, two kiwi) related to the staff, you could tell that they weren't there their first time. It's a good sign when customers come back. We had the curry chicken, cha shao pork (much bigger dish than in the menu photo), Fu Yong egg (omelette thingy) and stir fried veggies. All delicious.

Miss Peppercorn, located in Sumner, is a popular spot for authentic Chinese cuisine. The restaurant is known for its traditional Sichuan hand-pulled noodles and homemade dumplings, as well as the distinctive flavor of Szechuan peppercorns infused throughout their dishes. Since rebranding from The Cornershop Bistro to a modern Chinese eatery, Miss Peppercorn has quickly become a favorite among locals.
Having been to Chengdu twice, I was missing the flavours and wonderful 麻辣 flavour profile of Sichuan province. This is easily the best I’ve had in NZ. Would highly recommend. Only downside was that it they were quite busy so took a moment to get our order in, but the food all arrived very quickly afterwards.

This is hands-down one of the best Chinese restaurants in Christchurch. We live 25km away but happily go out of our way to eat here. The food is consistently excellent. We’ve explored most of the menu and like to try a couple of new dishes each visit - and have never been disappointed. But our favourites are the Biang Biang Noodles and the Pork & Prawn Dumplings, both handmade and absolutely delicious. The service has always been friendly, even when the place is packed (which says a lot about how popular and well-loved this spot is!).

Visited MrPippaCorn on a hot, sunny day and tried the Bang Bang Noodle. First time here and the food is great. Pick you main and get some appetiser's, as they're tasty. You will want to book a table, as this place has people arriving all the time that I noticed. Two tap beers (same company) and the rest bottles with a good selection of other drinks. Allow some time for parking, you might get lucky with a spot on the main road. Small streets can also be busy (during hot Summer days)

We tried this restaurant for the first time on Tuesday night, food was well priced and tasty. We opted to take our leftovers away with us. We are some for lunch the following day. We just went to heat up the last of it and found this fried fly inside... You can clearly tell it was cooked with the food. The containers were sealed when leaving the restaurant and put straight into the fridge, this dish was not touched until today. My daughter was not happy about finding this in her lunch. These things happen but will not be going back.

The food was okay in terms of taste, but I wish the service could have been more clear. When we first entered, we were asked if we wanted water or tea. Since no information about the cost was mentioned and it wasn't on the menu, we assumed that tea, like water, was free, so we chose tea. Later, when we were ordering, the server said that if we couldn’t finish our food, they could provide us with two takeaway boxes. Again, nothing else was mentioned. However, since most restaurants charge extra for takeaway boxes, we specifically asked and found out that they actually cost extra. Then, when we got the bill, we discovered that the tea was also charged as an extra. None of this was explained when we ordered, and we had to double-check ourselves to find out about the charges. This gave us a very unpleasant impression.

Good value and delicious as always. Our regular yumcha spot has moved around chch but this seems to be consistently at the top of our list. There is plenty of variety from your typical sui mai and prawn dumplings to chicken feet and durion deserts so it can service a large group of people with different taste. Great atmosphere great service, everyone is very friendly. Single people - there’s small tables if you want to eat alone

Booked for a table of 15 people. Great service and the food was delicious. Dishes are priced well, the serving sizes are big and can easily feed 3 people. We went on a Saturday night and it wasn't full on busy. I'd definitely recommend families book here for your next outing. We were also allowed to take our own birthday cake. 生煎包 is highly recommended, good taste. Would appreciate if they could advise the portion of dishes when customer placing the order. Portion is big, we order too much that couldn’t finish. Overall dining experience is good.

I first visited this place 5 years ago, but I just realized I haven’t left a review for this hidden gem. It’s always my first choice whenever my Chinese stomach craves good food. The dishes are always fresh and delicious. The boss, who is also the chef, often comes out to chat with customers and listen to their feedback. Last week, I ordered a seafood noodle for my daughter. Since we had just recovered from a stomach ache, I asked the staff to make it less salty. The noodles came out exactly as we expected — light, comforting, and tasting just like homemade food. I truly love this place — from the food to the staff, even the cozy decoration. Highly recommended!

I’ve been eating at Shanghai Bistro for years with my family, I’ve even come for my brother’s graduation celebration and I’ve always loved their food and service. The other night I came with my friends, and one of us had dietary requirements which I made it clear to the waitress during ordering - she was Muslim. I spoke in Mandarin Chinese so there’s no way she heard me incorrectly. Since we didn’t want to risk meat, we ordered from the “Vegetables” section on the ordering IPad. Now, I’ve never personally ordered from this tab because my family are meat lovers so I thought these were all completely vegeterian dishes. On the IPad ordering system there’s also nothing indicating what has meat and what doesn’t. Now I understand that the waitress probably thought the eggplants were for the rest who wasn’t Muslim so she didn’t say anything but I don’t understand why a dish with meat would be in the vegetable section. They should make it that more clear with labels on every dish on what’s vegeterian and what isn’t for any future vegetarians/vegans/muslims. However, I do have to say that the waitress did do a nice job defusing the situation, she allowed us to order another dish and this time walked us through what’s ACTUALLY vegetarian in the vegetable section and changed my friend’s rice, plates, cutleries, etc. We also had no issues with their other dishes. But again, I’d advise all vegetarians/vegans/muslims to be careful while ordering and understand that their “vegetable” section isn’t vegetarian until they change that, or just go to a different Chinese restaurant to be safe. :)

Very good dining experience in Shanghai Bistro. Was here last night for spending Mother’s Day for my mum. Was super busy had to wait for a while for my appointment but not a big deal. Food was absolutely delicious and really great atmosphere! Nice and friendly staff even if was busy night, still feel patient to help us. Thank you Shanghai Bistro to provide us a great Mother’s Day.

My parents loved their dishes, we ordered a variety ranging from the pan fried buns, to the beef stir fry rice noodle and sizzling beef. While it is an acceptable meal on a holiday, it doesn't stand out for me. Value for money is there, if you pay in cash. Do note the card surcharge if you're opting for that payment method

Orange House Restaurant & Takeaways, located in Upper Riccarton, is a popular spot offering classic Cantonese dishes such as wantons, chicken fried rice, and prawns. The restaurant is known for its friendly service and relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal place to gather with family and friends. Customers rave about the pork belly on rice, jellyfish, and duck dishes. The generous portions and reasonable prices make it a great value for money.
I ordered the chicken with vegetables and cashews over white rice and it was delicious! The staff was very friendly.

The hot and spicy stewed duck has no meat but all bones. I'm a bit disappointed. Their chow mein noodles are okay.

I tried the Beef Ho Fun with Gravy (Wet-fried Noodles) at Orange House and it was amazing! The beef was tender and flavorful, and the noodles had that nice wok aroma while staying silky and not overly oily. The sauce was rich and perfectly balanced, making the whole dish really satisfying. Generous portion, cozy atmosphere, and friendly service. Definitely a dish worth coming back for! 🌟

Asian restaurant
Old Street Asian Hawker Food, located at 174 Kendal Avenue in Burnside, offers a delightful array of Malaysian and Chinese hawker-style dishes. The casual setting is perfect for indulging in favorites like prawn noodle soup and nasi goreng fried rice. Customers praise the cleanliness of the dining area and the flavorful watanhor dish, which comes with complimentary chili that adds an extra kick to the meal.
This establishment offers a delightful culinary experience. 😋🍴🌟 The menu boasts a wide variety of options to satisfy any palate. 🤤😋💯 Despite a short wait time, the seating was well worth it. 👍😊👏 The food quality is truly exceptional, making it a must-try destination for asian food. 🍜🍣🥢 I highly recommend experiencing this dining gem. ✨💎💖Took the picture of the menu for next time. 👍📸😋 Sharing with you guys, as for small resturant I don't think they have website and hard to find menu online. 💻🔎It was black and white menu, I used AI to add some colors🤪. 🎨🖌️✨

A small but quaint restaurant. Fast and accommodating service. The moment a table became clear, it was cleared and occupied by another customer quickly. It makes for a good & fast turnover of customers. My meal: I always get drawn to a wonton noodle soup wherever I go. The soup came out steaming and by the time I got through it / it was still hot-warm. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The menu is affordable. I loathe the “fusion” menus which are expensive for less. I would definitely come back again when I pass thru.

I appreciated warm, welcoming and inclusive from your grantparents. The famous Fu Son family who were kind and hard working. They trusted me enough to deliver their prescription for them at the pharmacy I worked at. Nana helped to check if the car park was alright to use- she even came out of the store, the spirit and the smile are something I never forget. I wish them well. Thank you for trying to do well and like I said to Floor manager who is extremely efficient and capable of managing 10 workers' workload- your service are highly appreciated. It is hard not take pros and cons for such rapid and quick service from an ambitious management like you. More I dine in/take away, less worthy of myself I feel. You can not ask for perfection but can switch to the Good Thai next door.

Every time I travel, this is one of the places I never miss. The food here is authentic, delicious, and reminds me so much of home. The portions are very generous, and the prices are really reasonable for the quality and size you get. What I love most is that it truly feels like eating in Malaysia — the flavors are rich, comforting, and bring back so many memories. On my way back, I always make sure to pack some food to take home because it’s just that good. If you’re craving real Malaysian food with great value and heartwarming taste, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Old Street Asian Hawker Food was one of the best meals we had in New Zealand! We ordered the Char Bee Hoon and Bak Kut Teh, both were delicious, especially the Bak Kut Teh. Huge portions, affordable prices, and fast service. Highly recommended!

Amazing, delicious food! Wish I lived in Christchurch so I could eat there more often. Really delicious. They need a bigger store though, for good reason - it was packed when we went!
Stephen N — Google review
It was a Wednesday night and the place was busy. Best Malaysian food I've had outside of Malaysia. Even got cans of 100Plus. Worth a detour.
