The Christchurch Gondola is a must-visit attraction offering breathtaking panoramic views of the cityscape, Port Hills, Lyttleton Harbour, and the Southern Alps. This iconic mountain cable car takes visitors on an 862-meter-long ride from Heathcote Valley to the Summit Station atop Mount Cavendish. At the summit, guests can enjoy refreshments at the Red Rock Cafe or explore historical exhibits in the Time Tunnel.
Check the website for packages, dates of operation and keep the weather in mind. Convenient bus route 8 from The CBD right to the front door of the Gondola base. The views at the top are spectacular on clear weather days and an absolutely must do if you're in Christchurch. Several hiking trails from here all over the mountain. Pack your own lunch and drinks and enjoy responsibly outside on the rocks. Remember appropriate footwear and jack's as it does get fresh on windy days. Two thumbs up!!

This spot offers stunning views not only of Christchurch, but also of Lyttelton Harbour. On a clear day, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. While the gondola ticket may feel a bit pricey, I truly believe it's worth the cost for the experience — especially if you're visiting as a traveler. Highly recommended.
Sewoon P — Google review
It is a popular tourist attraction in Christchurch. It's 1,000 metres (1,100 yd) in length, and from the summit it is possible to see across the city of Christchurch and the Canterbury Plains to the Southern Alps in the north and west, and down into Lyttelton Harbour and Banks Peninsula in the south and east. You can get here by car (about 20 mins drive) and park free at the base station. You can also use public transport to get here. It takes about 20 minutes to get up to the top station. There you will find a restaurant, walking tracks, views of the city, toilets. Very popular place, lots of tourists and locals. Level terrain around the stations though there are stairs at places. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Great place for photography.
S V — Google review
Beautiful experience, last time i came here was 8 years ago. Amazing view at the top, the kids enjoyed it, went during the school holidays where there was a promotion “free for 5-15y/o”. Just making a comment on a regular hot chocolate that we ordered from the cafe, the cup is too small for $6. posting a photo for ref! Overall a great experience!
Noelene P — Google review
I could’ve spent the entire day at the summit. Buying a ticket and the price is quite reasonable given the end viewpoints the number of walking trails. Definitely suggest going on a weekday. I visited on a Monday and there was no queue. Keep an eye out for the lamb along the hillside if visiting during lambing season, an adorable bonus!
Lina B — Google review
Better than expected, view is dope, ride is great, super steep. If you have like 6 hours in Christchurch, this is a good 2 hrs. Accessible by bus if you don’t have a car.
Brian W — Google review
A great experience. We arrived early and avoided the crowds. Got a bit windy so bring a jacket. The displays and scenery were great.
John P — Google review
This was very beautiful as you can see most places around Christchurch and it offers a great panoramic view. There is a cafe on top and a store to buy memorabilia. There is also a 3D ride where they show the history of NZ and migration from Europe from settlers. It is a must do activity in Christchurch. After reaching the top you can go to the hill and see the view. There are also some walking tracks that you can access from the gandola.

The International Antarctic Centre, located near Christchurch International Airport, is a must-visit destination for travelers. It offers an immersive experience that brings the wonders of Antarctica to life. Visitors can explore simulated Antarctic environments, interact with penguins and huskies, and take rides in amphibious Hägglund vehicles. The center also houses administration offices, a clothing shop, a post office, and a travel agent.
We weren’t expecting much after reading some of the reviews, but honestly, we ended up having a great time! The staff really made the visit – everyone was super friendly and knew so much. Our Hägglund driver, P. Sherpa, was hilarious, and the 10-minute ride over the obstacle course was such a fun way to see what those beasts can do. The simulated storm was a cool experience, most of the rescued penguins were out and about when we went, and the 4D theatre was a blast. We also had a lovely chat with the person looking after the huskies, which just added to it. Maybe it was partly because we went in with low expectations, but we definitely came away having learnt a lot and really enjoyed ourselves. The staff’s warmth and knowledge made it well worth spending a couple of hours there.
Phil G — Google review
Amazing exhibitions and 4D showcase. You can see cute little penguins and huskies there. The snow storm simulation is fascinating. If you’re going in group tour and have a staff guide that’d be much more awesome. I personally think they can add more stuff inside to make the entire experience more fruitful.
Elvis P — Google review
Took advantage of the 50% ticket price for locals because theres no way i would pay the full price of $74 per adult and $49 for children. Website did say to allow two or three hours but if you were by yourself you could easily get through in an hour. Huskys had set slot times through out the day but we forgot to go back. Couple of small penguins in the enclosure, shame the viewing windows were dirty. Storm dome was good. 4D theater was good. Lots of parking available and a cafe on site. No ques getting in on a week day.
Yoyo 2 — Google review
While slightly on the pricier side ($199 NZD for a family of 2 adults and 2 children), the International Antarctic Centre is well worth a visit. From the moment you step into the first area (a giant display of video from Antarctica on three walls), you're transported to a different place and time. Learning about polar exploration from such a long time ago was fascinating, and the experiences were amazing. Seeing the penguins and Huskies was great, the 4D movie was a lot of fun, and the Hägglund experience was an absolute blast. Being able to experience a summer Antarctic storm was also well worth the time (despite being freezing!!). I would 100% recommend visiting the Antarctic Centre, it was interactive and educational, and extremely fun. We would definitely go back again.
Danielle W — Google review
Wonderful place to bring family and friends! We had an (arctic) blast last time we went, had a lot to do and see with all the activities and shows althroughout. Please note though that rides do have a height requirement which they are a bit strict with for safety reasons. The rest are pretty accessible to the young and young at heart. A bit pricey but you doget a lot of enjoyment and knowledge out of it.
Anthony C — Google review
What an excellent experience! Absolutely loved the Hagglund trek thru the different terrains. We got to talk with Heather about all the penguins and their antics. We were there for about 5 hours, went for lunch, great food in the cafe, then back in to see the beautiful huskies, and having Jo talk about his beloved huskies! Highly recommended, very interactive 😍
Tanya B — Google review
Not somewhere I would of gone of my own accord, but reccomended by others and it did not disappoint. We spent 2hrs there. Great knowledgeable and chatty staff on the hagglund atv. Lots to learn and interactive stuff for all age levels.
Karen L — Google review
We love the Haaglund ride, it will pass an obstacle course with ups and downs on some simulated terrains. The Antartica storm is also a fun way to experience Antartica, there are warm jackets provided. We found a good deal tickets on bookme.

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is a must-visit destination in New Zealand, offering an immersive experience with native wildlife such as kiwis. The reserve also features Ko Tane, a Maori Cultural Experience that provides insight into Maori spirituality and lifestyle through storytelling, traditional greetings, cultural performances, and optional wildlife tours. Additionally, the reserve is known for its comprehensive collection of New Zealand-themed wildlife and its commitment to conservation efforts.
Loved the experience. Visited other wildlife parks and so far one can beat Willowbank. The animals are all well taken care of. The experience of feeding them especially the eels were 💯 My daughter enjoyed it too. Food at the cafe was also pretty decent! Price is reasonable too.
Linda Y — Google review
The zoo has an atmosphere similar to an open-range zoo, featuring a wide variety of New Zealand animals. Ducks can be seen wandering along almost the entire path. It’s a great place to take children to learn and explore.
Kunchit P — Google review
Love visiting every time! This time did the lemur encounter and it was awesome! They were very gentle when taking the food from us. The keeper was amazing and had some great facts to share. Feeding the eels, the farmyard and going through kiwi habitat are other favourites. Been going often for the past 8 years or so and totally recommend the child's annual membership so they can go with any adult :) - thanks for another memory Willowbank! - Pics attached, was hard finding many with no people in them :D
Peru K — Google review
Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is absolutely amazing, a perfect mix of native, farm, and exotic animals. The kiwi enclosure was the highlight for me, peaceful, natural, and the closest I’ve ever been to seeing a kiwi up close! The staff are super friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly care deeply about conservation. The grounds are clean and easy to walk through, with beautiful native bush and photo spots everywhere. Feeding the eels and lemurs was such a fun surprise. Great for all ages, and only a short drive from the city or airport. Definitely one of Christchurch’s must-visit attractions!
Umair — Google review
Absolutely amazing. Great experience for all young and old. My daughter loved it. Being able to be amongst alot of the animals makes for a great time. I would frequent here over Orana Park anyday
Jayjay D — Google review
We really wanted to see a native kiwi bird on our trip and being a shy nocturnal creature there are not many places where you can see one. Willowbank just on the edge of Christchurch is one place where you can. They have a dark enclosure which once you have adjusted your eyes gives you a decent chance of spotting a kiwi. We saw two and just watched as they moved around in the dark. The centre also has other wildlife such as black swans, deer, wallabies, goats, pigs, kea parrots etc so well worth a visit.
Shaun L — Google review
Very nice wildlife reserve, great atmosphere and a very good experience looking at various creatures. Having been to many reserves with kiwi enclosures, this is probably for me the best one where I was able to easily spot the kiwis for real. We walked through the enclosure few times. BUT.. In one of my walkthroughs of the enclosure there was a group who were using their phone flashers all over when it clearly says not to at the entrance. Engaging them directly and telling them not to do it was only good for a moment and they were back at it soon. Now to the reason for low rating: Reporting them to two different staff, it was very clear this happens a lot and there is nothing they would do actually do about it. So for that reason, and that reason alone, I'm rating low which would have otherwise an easy 5/5. I hope someone notices the review cares enough to change things.
Yajith D — Google review
Willowbank is a wonderful place to spend a day. It's affordable and really interactive. Lots of the animals are able to be hand fed, from Eels to Deer, Ducks to Wallabies. Perfect for families with kids of all ages and just a great place to go.

The Air Force Museum of New Zealand, located in Wigram, is a treasure trove of the country's military aviation history. It offers a captivating journey through over 100 years of heritage at the birthplace of the Air Force. The museum boasts six buildings housing a remarkable collection of historic relics and aircraft, including objects obtained from former enemy forces. Visitors can engage with interactive exhibits, take tours, and even experience a flight simulator.
Highly recommended for everyone in the family. A beautiful free (donations are welcome) museum, filled with far more aircrafts than we initially expected. Lots to read and discover, displays were well put together and the pacing through the exhibits is perfect. If you need a break, there is a simple cafe, a lovely little gift shop and peaceful grounds. Wish we had more time to explore this past visit. We will have to set aside more time the next visit!
E S — Google review
I've been to the museum several times over the years and it continues to evolve and add exhibits. Mind you I do miss the Canberra bomber that used to be a major attraction. The staff are helpful and entry is free. The aircraft on display are very interesting and have history with NZ including the Skyhawk, Spitfire, Mustang and DC3. Apart from the planes there are hundreds of other exhibits and a small gift shop.
Steve W — Google review
A brilliant mix of history, storytelling, and hands-on experience. The aircraft displays are impressive, and the interactive exhibits make it great for all ages. Whether you’re into aviation or just curious, this place is well worth the visit — and it’s free! Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and a real hidden gem in Christchurch.
Andy I — Google review
It is $15NZD for entry for international guests & $5 for the tour. I still highly recommend for aerospace enthusiasts as they have many cool planes on display. Take the tour if you do come it is worth the $5 as they show you extra displays not available with your regular entry. Really cool place to visit and their restoration work is incredible.
Mitchell H — Google review
It is a must-visit for anyone curious about aviation or history. You can freely explore the area, and the displays are informative and impressive. Educational, engaging, and inspiring — a true gem! Totally FREE!
FridgeIT M — Google review
Just so cool. I’m not a plane need yet it’s fascinating. Well laid out lots to see, photography encouraged. Guides super friendly. Options for a guided tour 1 hr for very reasonable charge. Needs to be promoted more
Kj W — Google review
Free entry, lots of parking, staff were friendly and helpful, quick snack at the cafe before we started was nice. You dont even need to be an aviation enthusiasts to come have a look here and youll easily spend a good hour or more looking around. Paid guided tour on offer but managed fine getting around on our own with the supplied map. Was hoping to see the Hercules on display but no. Gift shop on the way out was worth a look. Take a jacket because i froze my butt off looking at the planes lol

This museum is absolutely beautiful and filled with treasures from years gone by. The volunteers that do the tours and the ladies who work at the reception desk all make the experience an enjoyable one. I highly recommend visiting here and also take the one hour private tour

The Christchurch Botanic Gardens, established in 1863, are located in a 21-hectare space next to the Avon River. The gardens feature native and exotic plants outdoors and in several conservatories. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy different blooms such as cherry blossoms in September, roses in November, colorful hydrangeas in March, and orchids in June.
It was a really nice place for a walk and to clear my mind. There’s a parking lot in Hagley Park, so it was easy to park and head in. From the entrance, there were so many cute ducks. They just walked beside me like little tour guides😂 There’s also a greenhouse where you can see flowers, ferns, and cacti, and it was awesome! So peaceful. I definitely want to come back on a sunny day. There's also a cafe in the Botanic Gardens, which was perfect for grabbing a snack and having a chat with a friend 🙂
Hee — Google review
Beautifully presented gardens with a lovely cafe next to the information centre which also has a gift shop. There is also a wonderful playground with a pool in the summer for the young ones. When we went in Sept 25, the Cuningham House (tropical conservatory) was currently closed for heritage restoration. Highly recommend visiting. Please note it is pay parking.
Lisa — Google review
A truly amazing space! More than just gardens, this is a living ecosystem where you can relax among ancient trees and observe wildlife up close. Depending on the season, you might see young animals near the cafe. The nearby stream is teeming with life like trout and eels, and the bird watching for native species is fantastic. A wonderfully peaceful and inspiring experience.
Scott W — Google review
Really loved this place! Peaceful, tranquil and gorgeous in the spring sunshine. Wished I could have seen it a few weeks earlier as well as I love daffodils but then again the roses weren’t quite out but … the azalea and rhododendron were. So not at all disappointed. Just means I’ll have to visit again!!! Definitely worth a visit it two and walkable from the city centre.

Soft blossoms drift, a gentle snow, The boulevard of Yoshino cherry blossoms glow. Pink clouds alight on arching boughs, A fragrant silence settles now. Each petal holds the morning's light, A fleeting, glorious, pure white. The path below, a carpet deep, Where whispered secrets drift and sleep. A perfect arch of living lace, Transforms this time, this walking space. The air is sweet with promised spring, And all the joy the blossoms bring.

We spent about 3 hours at Hagley Park/Christchurch Botanic Gardens before heading to the airport. It was lovely, we could have stayed there a lot longer if we had the time. It covers a big area so there was so much to see, not to mention how peaceful it was. I would definitely go back the next time I go to Christchurch.
Henrietta H — Google review
We visited in spring time when the flowers were almost in full bloom. A variety of plants with a number that having travelled from the UK we had not seen before. It’s lovely place to spend an hour to two wandering around. There is an info centre, cafe and shop too. A must do if visiting the city.
Shaun L — Google review
Absolutely stunning in the spring, like it was today when I visited for the first time, I am a visually impaired in bright light and didn't see the signs stating you aren't allowed dogs in the garden part, so I sincerely apologise for that. I was wondering why I was the only one with a dog! Face palm!! Lesson learned.

Orana Wildlife Park, located just a short drive from Christchurch Airport, is an open-range zoo spread across 80 hectares of natural wilderness. The zoo map could be better to explore easily. The staff was very good. Kids enjoyed the visit, especially the dedicated animal feed times. Ample parking at the front. The shuttle service was very nice 👌. Kids love Tasmanian Devil. Overall nice to have a day out with the kids especially on a sunny day.

Great little Zoo. Spacious and uncrowded when we went as it was a weekday. The best experience was being able to feed the Giraffe's for free, I have never been to a zoo that offered this. The food and hot chocolates at the Cafe were super tasty and had plenty to choose from. Also the family ticket includes up to 3 children which is so great for families.
Daniel R — Google review
So cool! Good value for money! Had a shuttle if you didn't feel like walking. Lots of cool animals to see. Even got to feed the giraffes! Very ethical place no forcing the animals to interact it's all on there terms. Plenty of very friendly staff and awesome guides.
VixSun 2 — Google review
It was nice to go there around 1 o'clock on the weekend because it wasn't that crowded! If you go see the animals in time for feeding on the map, you can see many animals such as rhinos and giraffes right in front of your eyes, so families with children will be even better. I bought a ticket online in advance that day, and it was cheaper, so I was satisfied👍
Zinna — Google review
Went there few weeks ago and had very good experience. The staff was very helpful at the start by giving all the info with a map. There are primes available near reception if you have kid with you. We enjoyed our time seeing the animal. There was a bit disappointment for not seeing few of them as they are in large place surrounded with trees. But overall it was a very nice experience , our daughter loved it! Highly recommended!
Gurminder S — Google review
Well worth a visit here, spacious and the animals have lots of room. Which can make them more difficult to see, of course. was hoping to see the African Painted Dogs but they only showed their heads above the grass briefly. The Gorillas and Keas made up for it.
Gavin S — Google review
The zoo isn’t very big, but you get to see animals that are unique to New Zealand, including the kea. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a kiwi! The food inside the park is surprisingly good big portions and really tasty. The pumpkin soup is a must-try.
Hilary C — Google review
Orana Wildlife Park is a fantastic destination for families and anyone who loves animals. We had a great day with the kids, exploring the open-range enclosures and learning about the park’s fabulous wildlife. The animals are clearly well cared for, and the staff are passionate about conservation, providing visitors with valuable knowledge and insight during their talks and feeding sessions. Highlights included getting up close to lions, giraffes, and native New Zealand species. It’s also inspiring to see the park’s efforts to protect endangered animals, though they do need support from visitors and the community to continue their important work. There are plenty of shaded picnic areas and a playground, making it a comfortable place to spend a full day. Overall, Orana Wildlife Park offers an unforgettable experience that combines fun with education, making it a must-visit for anyone visiting Christchurch. Highly recommended for families and animal lovers alike!

Quake City in Christchurch, New Zealand, is a museum that offers a unique and uplifting perspective on the devastating Canterbury earthquakes of 2010-2011. Through personal stories and interactive exhibits, visitors can gain insight into the impact of the quakes on the city and its residents. The attraction showcases a blend of educational and engaging displays, videos, and other materials designed to appeal to all ages. It highlights the resilience and unity of Christchurch's locals in facing this natural disaster.
A must go to, too appreciate the lovely kindness unity and strength of the NZ people. Very emotional excellent videos and explanation on earthquake liquefaction and architectural brillance to counteract nature. A few hands on and jump on things for kids. Friendly informative staff, ask them about the clocks

Well organised display and interesting fact present of the earthquakes in Christchurch that change the face of the city! The staff at the entrance desk was super friendly and very lovely to chat to as he is a local Christchurch resident. It was super interesting that the information printed on wooden board material used as a display. The video of survival stories is very sad and actually last about one hour and a half for the first part. Then there is a follow up after 10 years stories video just before the exist of the gallery. I love the interactive part of the gallery like the bike-power-output, Lego building table, and earthquake measuring plate! A little gift selections you can buy at the end of the visit as well.

Events of this day has left a significant impression on community of Christchurch. This museum shows how the event that day, had brought the community together and how Christchurch has grown since then. Personal stories are shared. While nothing compares to actually living through such an event, Quake City does portray this history with care and compassion. Worth a visit if you don't understand much about earthquakes, or wish to learn more about events that day.

Informative, kind and friendly staff. Worth visiting when in Chch to understand what the city went through. Young children may not find it that captivating but it’s a relatively quick visit.

The exhibition is very visual and interactive. The interview component is moving and touching. It brought me back to the day I was there.

If you visit chch this place is a must, with all its pictures and videos it certainly gives you a insight to what occurred on that day.. To listen to some of the survivors tell their stories was heartbreaking 💔 😢 .

A powerful place to sit and feel all the emotions. A wall decorated with names of all those lost. Very beautiful!! The bathrooms were super clean too!! This place is a must see!! A beautiful and peaceful tribute, often adorned with photos and flowers. This is a neat little place to visit and see. They offer a video to hear what happened here and that is very interesting, but to see the area and the destruction that happened from this earthquake is pretty neat to see.😍 This memorial and the history of the area was quite enlightening. The park service has done an excellent job of creating an educational experience for all that choose to stop along the way. 😊 This is a beautiful area and the sights of the grandeur of nature are worth the stop along the way. An absolute hidden gem, created by the dark history of an earthquake that took several lives . To understand the beauty of the city , first you have to understand the devastation that created it!!Take some time to visit and get a map, and go see all the marked areas. It's a somber reminder of how things can be changed in an instant. ✅

Nice little museum. The film, with it’s eyewitness accounts, is very emotional and informative. It gives the whole event a very personal feeling and illustrates the true extent of the destruction at that time. A must do in Christchurch.

Nestled in the picturesque Port Hills, Christchurch Adventure Park is a haven for thrill-seekers in New Zealand. The park offers an array of activities, including world-class mountain biking trails suitable for all levels of expertise and a scenic chairlift ride to the summit with breathtaking views. Additionally, visitors can experience the exhilarating zipline rides and take in the serene wilderness of New Zealand.
Spent the day on the trails and had a blast. Chairlift was a fun experience in itself. Loads of varied runs for all levels that were well maintained and easy to follow. Great staff and facilities. Pretty amazing setting with stunning views over Christchurch. Highly recommended. Will def return!

The 2 guides that helped on the 4 ziplines were very friendly, happy, helpful and knowledgeable. I would recommend doing this for some fun. Not for anyone afraid of heights as one of them is approx 150m high and another is approx 1.1 km long. I would do this again

The zip lining was incredible. We took advantage of the full package which included the chairlift and 4 zip lines and was so much fun. Ellie and Lilly were excellent instructors and the attention to detail for our safety was second to none, and their humour just made the time a lot of fun. Definitely recommended.

Had a wonderful afternoon Zipling last Thursday - the staff were amazing and we had the best time. We already have friends who want to do this when they are in Christchurch. The care and attention the staff offered on a cold a d windy day was amazing. This is an absolute must do when in Christchurch

It was a great experience. Reaching the top after the hike is very fulfilling. Just prepare your water bottle and legs for the 1 .5 hours of walk . It is rewarding by the end with the free chairlift going down. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

First off, Ellie and Kelson were incredible! Both were professional, wildly funny, and patient the entire time. An absolute 5 star experience, we laughed, we screamed, we zipped, we biked, we screamed some more. Nestled in the heart of Christchurch, the Canterbury Museum is a treasure trove that invites visitors to delve into the rich tapestry of New Zealand's cultural and natural history. With over 2.3 million artifacts, this venerable institution showcases an impressive array of exhibitions ranging from Maori heritage to Antarctic exploration.
Alright, check this out! There's this seriously cool, full-size wharenui that's popping up in Canterbury! Get this – it's not made of wood, but totally crocheted by hand using get this... FIVE THOUSAND balls of super bright, colorful yarn! It's already been blowing minds all over New Zealand, and now it's our turn, Cantabrians! You gotta see this awesome mix of classic Māori carving vibes but done up in neon wool. It's pretty epic!

This museum is a lovely place with excellent service. However, it is currently undergoing renovations and will not reopen until 2027 or 2029—I can’t recall the exact year. The exhibits feature incredibly detailed and unique pieces, especially for those who appreciate pottery. While it might not be worth a dedicated trip if you’re not a fan of this art form, its central location makes it convenient to visit if you’re nearby. Overall, it’s worth a look when it reopens.
Annie Y — Google review
Considering it is a pop up while the museum is under renovation this museum was a good visit. The staff were really helpful. We enjoyed it. My grandson loved the meteor!
Linda H — Google review
Usually we are not really into museums but when we visited in the beginning of February 25 we had a really good time walking through the exhibitions (especially the Wharenui Harikoa, because it included light into the art as well) 🥰 Beside the entrance we even had the opportunity to make pompoms at a little creative area, so I would definitely recommend a visit 😊

Some old favourites on display and then the other part dedicated to the the docudrama of New Zealand's 19th century past. Free entry. Combine with a visit to the Art museum on the other side of the block.

Took a look around the small pop up they have until the main museum opens up again and it was a lovely discovery. The marae was an exceptional treat.
E S — Google review
Small but well organized museum, free admission, definitely worth a short 20 minute visit. We arrived about 30 to 40 minutes before closing, the staff welcomed us anyway the moment we stepped in. 5⭐ for the great customer service.
Jo L — Google review
Seems it is currently being renovated, currently a small exhibition is available on the first floor. Nice descriptions, half of the space was pottery when I was there, the other half was mostly unrelated to NZ, such as small display of Roald Amundsens Antarctic expedition, a piece of meteorite from the US, African animals and so on, would have loved some more Māori or NZ related things. Granted I read fast, but having read almost everything, I finished seeing everything after half an hour. Free entrance but they would like a donation. They recommend 5 NZD, and you can choose eftpos donation of 5, 10, 15 or 20 NZD, I had a hard time since I just wanted to drop 2 dollars but it seemed so petty so I just didn’t. Didn’t feel it was 5 dollars worth, would have donated more if the exhibition was fully open and larger and not mainly pottery haha. The staff was super friendly tho!

The Christchurch Tram offers a unique and nostalgic way to explore the heart of the city. This iconic attraction features beautifully restored heritage trams that take passengers on a narrated journey through the central city and various precincts. With hop-on-hop-off privileges, visitors can explore multiple points of interest at their own pace using an all-day pass.
Quirky thrill riding the trams through Christchurch. Book tickets online. Redeem at the starting point office. Hop on and off to your hearts-content. Most stop near points of interest or other attractions along the way. Worth it even if only for the thrill of joy-riding!
B. G — Google review
This is a must do activity in Christchurch. We initially thought we would go on a ride to sightsee and then continue with our day. We were so impressed with the stops and tour guides that we spent the whole day hopping on and off at various attractions. We were thankful to the ticket office for allowing us to leave our pram with them. We hopped on with our 9 month old in a baby carrier and it was so easy to get around. The trams were nostalgic and fun and the operators were entertaining and knowledgeable. This was the highlight of our trip.

An hour to spend in the tram in the city is worthy. Tickets are full day hop on and off, so start from anywhere and then use the tram to visit different point of the city during the day. It is nice to keep the heritage tram operational. The main tram station in the Cathedral is very beautiful.

Took a tour around the city on the hop-on hop-off heritage tram. Plenty of city info and history told by our driver with a number of stops to get on and off from historical sites to museums etc. Worth staying in for a full circuit first to help get your Christchurch bearings before hopping off to visit places. Love an old tram.

We enjoyed a tram ride of Christchurch city as part of a tourism lunch. As it drizzled outside we were warm and dry winding our way through the city centre. It is a fantastic way to see the city centre and enjoy an informative commentary. Hop on and off or enjoy a 50 minute ride

The gallery's remarkable building houses an expansive collection of both new and old artworks.
Excellent art museum. Current exhibitions visited included 20th and 21st century curated art works with a very strong focus on New Zealand artists. Well worth the time and effort to include in your itinerary through Christchurch. Restaurant and shop on site. Mobility access and support available. Two thumbs up!!

Free museum! Accept donations at your discretion! Awesome big open spaces and rooms fill with many different style of very interesting arts! I didn't have enough time to explore the whole building, only managed to go through a couple rooms on the ground floor. I really love the Fountain in Transit piece on the ground floor under the big stairs. I also spent quite a bit of time watching many video stories in the Disruptive Landscape section of the gallery. The gift shop was full of beautiful items you can take home as a souvenir 😍 Also the art imitation of a big whale 🐋 like at the History of Natural Museum at the entrance is really cool!

Exceptional exhibitions, particularly the Peter Robinson work. Grateful to the staff who explained artwork with such passion. Great to have wonderful staff who genuinely love what they do! I liked the sign on the exterior of the building- Everything is going to be alright- that drew me in to see how they can be so sure, they were right. It's free to get in, be kind and give a donation to keep it free :)

Gallery spaces filled with works by New Zealand artists, many depicting NZ scenes. New exhibition (June 2025) with several beautiful pieces by Fred Graham, artist and educator (who died last month). He is regarded as a pioneer in the contemporary Māori art movement. There are some lounge areas, including one with a selection of videos to watch. The gift shop sells books, gifts, whimsical items, greenstone jewellery and has a large section with children’s books and gifts.

Punting On The Avon (Antigua Boat Sheds) offers a serene and picturesque journey along Christchurch's Avon River. Visitors can enjoy a traditional punting experience on a small, flat-bottomed boat guided by a punter dressed in Edwardian clothing.
It was such a nice experience under a nice weather. Definitely will recommend to people who are visiting christ church for the first time. The punter was so friendly with the occasional jokes. The Margaret Mahy Family Playground is a popular destination in Christchurch, built as part of the city's recovery efforts after the 2011 earthquake. Named after beloved children's author Margaret Mahy, this expansive playground spans 2.5 hectares and offers attractions for all ages. From towering slides and climbing nets to flying foxes and a splash pad water play area in summer, there's something for everyone here.
It is a versatile park, my daughter enjoyed it so much when we were in Christchurch. Its made creatively, is in a central location and often has food vans too. The water play area is fun too. Mostly for kids over 4 years.

No wonder it has such a high rating—4.8! A must-visit place for families with young kids. My children, aged 10 and 8, loved this place, and we ended up spending two hours here. Riccarton House and Bush is a serene reserve in the heart of Canterbury, featuring the last remaining kahikatea floodplain forest in the region. The 600-year-old kahikatea trees stand as a testament to the area's rich history, having survived for centuries. The site also boasts the historic Riccarton House, which hosts the popular Christchurch Farmers Market.
We live nearby and it always fun to visit this place. There is a lot of history behind it and it is a great place to educate young kids about what happened here hundreds of years ago. The bush also offers interesting ambient to walk around and spend the day with family.

A lovely place to visit and is close to UC. You can have coffee, sit by the river, enjoy some quiet alone time or hangout with your friends and family. The house is old but not eerie. Rather it feels like going back in time especially with the old growth trees. However, the toilet closes at 4 PM. Which is sad if you feel like relieving yourself while you’re there.
King M — Google review
We recently joined the Riccarton House & Deans Bush Halloween Ghost Tour, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish! The evening began with a welcoming glass of bubbles, setting the tone for a fun yet eerie adventure into Christchurch’s early history. The tour through Riccarton House was fascinating — our guide shared captivating stories about the pioneering Deans family, some of Canterbury’s very first European settlers. Each room has been beautifully restored with original-style wallpapers and authentic period details, creating an atmosphere that feels like stepping straight into the 1840s. The Deans family story is filled with triumphs, heartbreak, and resilience. You can truly feel the echoes of their lives — their struggles, love, and loss — within the walls of this stunning Scottish homestead. The tour concluded at the historic Deans Cottage, Christchurch’s oldest remaining building, where the past feels almost tangible. Thank you to the wonderful team for such a memorable, spine-tingling evening and for keeping Canterbury’s heritage alive in such an engaging way. A must-do experience for anyone who loves history, architecture, or a touch of the supernatural!

We went for a work social event and had a great time! There are a variety if different courses to suit different levels of ability - from staying close to the ground to getting right up in the canopy. Some of the obstacles were quite tough though so would recommend a base level of fitness to get through some of them. The safety system is really good and worked well, and the staff are on hand to "save you" if needed. Not for the faint of heart but a great adventure for those who are game!

Insanely fun, even if you're afraid of heights. Highly recommend going to one of their 4 locations. Been to both the Bay of Plenty and Christchurch locations and have enjoyed both. There are plenty of courses (I think 9 total) available for a range of fitness levels. Trust the safety harness. Actually lost my grip in the BOP location and fell, fully relying on the harness. Gave me a heart attack but it works! Wife and sister also enjoyed it, even with lower endurance and fitness (and wife scared of heights).

One of my top 10 life experiences this place was amazing! After doing courses 3,4,5b,6 i am shattered but so satisfied. Course 6 will give you nightmares it is so high and hard! It spans 165 hectares and features botanical gardens, a small lake, tennis courts, and other sports facilities. Divided into North and South Hagley Park by Riccarton Avenue, it offers ample space for various activities such as sports games, jogging tracks, bike lanes, and picnics.
This is one of the most beautiful parks I have ever visited in my life. There are so many beautiful trees and flowers everywhere. The lake has ducks and geese. The playground is so beautiful and exclusive to all types of children. I wish we had this back home in the United States. I honestly felt like I was in a fairytale.

(See also Hagley Park South) Paved pathway around the perimeter of both North and South sections and through the middle. The two sections of the park, divided by Riccarton Avenue. The North park includes Christchurch Botanic Gardens and Curator’s House Restaurant/Café. Much of the path is lined by trees. The perimeter path, being surrounded by busy roads, can be loud. There is a toilet block on the west side, near Riccarton Road. A few water fountains are installed around the park. On the east side of the North park are wooden stations for particular exercises.

The Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial is located on both sides of the Avon River, downstream of the Montreal Street Bridge. It was created as a place for people to reflect and remember the 185 individuals who lost their lives in the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake. The memorial also honors those who aided in rescue and recovery efforts. Designed by Slavonian architect Grega Vezjak, it provides a space for sharing experiences, hosting annual gatherings, and serving as a point for contemplation.
it was a strong memorial for those who passed during the 2011 quake. Just next to a meandering body of water made for an excellent stop to reflect and have a quiet moment to yourself. I thought it was very good urban design and planning to get it done the way it was. really loved the tranquillity.

This was a somber visit for me to pay respects for those that lost their lives in 2011. The memorial is absolutely stunning and beautifully laid out, focusing on the name wall for those that lost their lives.

I cannot begin to explain how the experience made me feel. A flood of emotions and memories of the Earthquake as I walked through. There are some really cool interactive areas for the kids to spark their interests and we could have easily spent the whole day there thanks to the lego table.

The Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial Monument is truly an impressive and peaceful place to visit. A short 10-minute visit is sufficient, but it serves as a poignant space for people to remember and reflect on their losses during the 2011 earthquake. The availability of benches to sit, with a view of the river, makes it an ideal place to find solace and honor loved ones. The serenity and beauty of the surroundings add to the overall experience. It's a place that beautifully encapsulates both remembrance and tranquility.

I went to this place during my Social Sciences trip and we learnt about the importance of remembering those who lost their lives during the 2011 earthquakes. It is also a nice and quiet place to rest or chill out
Matt — Google review
Simple yet a lovely way to remember those who died from the Earthquakes. The respect given by adding in their preferred names, titles, keeping couples together and the use of their native language was really nice to see

The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora is a collection of 23 heritage buildings covering 2.2 hectares, originally acquired as a home for Canterbury College. The site includes shops, restaurants, galleries, art spaces, and hosts cultural events. Although the area was damaged in earthquakes, it is progressively reopening. Visitors can explore the Arts Centre Market offering a variety of unique items such as hand-knitted garments and jewelry.
A beautiful must-see attraction in Christchurch, featuring history exhibits, arts and crafts shops, and even a hotel. Since major earthquakes in late 2010/early 2011, The Arts Centre has undergone major restoration works. This is a major undertaking and has yet to be completed, with remaining works on the cathedral put on hold due to funding shortages. There is an exhibit which showcases the meticulous and momentous planning and construction work to effectively build a "new" steel and concrete structure under the existing brick facade. I've been told the work rivals that of the restoration of the Notre Dame, and I agree - you can see where the centre has been strengthened to be safe to modern standards, but also where individual components have been reconstructed by hand to remain faithful to the original style.
Justin L — Google review
One of the oldest buildings of Canterbury College which subsequently became the prestigious Canterbury University. The University is now centered in its modern campus to the West of the centre of the city and, after extensive renovation following the Christchurch Earthquake in 2011 this building has become an Arts Centre. The Centre also houses an up-market wine bar/restaurant but the must-see is the spectacular stained glass window in the main hall.
Bernard S — Google review
Definitely a good spot to hangout, have a nice meal, enjoy the museum or a movie.

An amazing site, visually, culturally and spiritually. The staff are second to non. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for peace, solice and connection to external self reflection. You can't find that peace in many places, but The Christchurch Arts Center offers that freely. The events they hold there incorporate family fun in a secure environment, and the joy is contagious. Special shout out to staff member "Michelle". This amazing lady takes care of staff there and she is truly dedicated and helpful. All the staff there are wonderful. God bless Christchurch Arts Center

The best "Must see" in Christchurch! Be sure to go between 9-5 so that you can go up in the observatory hotel to see the Song of the Gods exhibit. Also go up to see the old classroom inside the Canterbury College Baron Rutherford (on the NZ $100 bill) exhibit. 10 stars And the Great Hall... Exquisite!
Jan S — Google review
We stumbled upon the Arts Centre by accident after finding the Quad café, and it turned out to be one of the best surprises of our trip! The café drew us in, but the Arts Centre kept us exploring for hours. The place is full of hidden treasures. We wandered through the Central Gallery, checked out Rutherford’s Den science center, and browsed the gift shop, which was packed with quirky, creative finds. There’s even a cinema, though we didn’t have time to catch a film. Plus, the Buskers Festival was happening, so the whole area was buzzing with street performers. There were also public art installations—think sculptures and creative outdoor displays that made the space feel vibrant and alive. We also saw the Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities- small but had significant artifacts. The buildings themselves are absolutely stunning—classic Gothic architecture that feels like a mix of Harry Potter and Edinburgh. Everything is so well-preserved, and just walking around was a treat. Sadly, we missed the Great Hall because it was closed for rehearsals, but that just gives us a reason to go back. And the best part? It’s completely free to visit! Whether you’re into art, history, or just want to soak up the atmosphere, the Arts Centre is a total must-see.

New Brighton Pier, a concrete structure that opened in 1997, extends 300 meters into the sea and is renowned for its angling opportunities and stunning sunset views. The pier has a rich history, with the original wooden structure built in 1894 featuring a penny arcade and later a nightclub before being demolished in 1965. Located on Marine Parade in Christchurch's easterly suburb of New Brighton, the pier offers uninterrupted ocean views and houses the Salt on the Pier restaurant.
Great looking beach for a summer's day... Cool and fresh on 14 June 2025. Some fitness enthusiasts, fishermen, photographers and a few gulls adds life to the ever rolling ocean. Great views and great place for a casual stroll.
B. G — Google review
The New Brighton Pier is such a beautiful place, seating all along the walk. Fishing area at the end of the walk as well as a part of it dedicated to no fishing. A gorgeous place to take photos, can access the pier from 3-4 different places. Overall just an amazing experience.
Aliviah T — Google review
I was surprised at how big it looks. Looks new clean wide with an impressive view. It was said there was 3 fishers fishing at a no fishing on Sunday. Good playground, library, and although we were out of season there is a small pool there.

New Brighton Pier is an absolute gem and a must-visit spot in Christchurch! The views from the pier are stunning—especially at sunrise or sunset when the sky puts on a show. You can walk right out over the ocean and take in the fresh sea breeze, with waves crashing underneath you. There’s always a peaceful, relaxed vibe, whether you’re fishing, strolling, or just soaking in the atmosphere. The beach is clean and wide, great for families, surfers, or anyone wanting a day out by the water. Plus, there are some great cafes and playgrounds nearby, making it a perfect destination for all ages. Every time I visit, I leave feeling refreshed and grounded. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

You can enjoy the breathtaking ocean views and the refreshing scent of the sea, along with beautiful walking tracks. I think I’m falling in love with this place.
BELLA — Google review
Great place for a mid week sunrise, surprised there was no fisherman with their ropes and lines everywhere today. Hope the person living under the pier next to the toilets by the basketball court finds somewhere nicer. Pier facts: Length : 300 meters. Height : 7 meters above high tide. Width : 6 meters. Deck : 900mm thick pre stressed concrete. Piles : 17 piles, 1.4 meters in diameter, 20 meters apart. The original pier was wooden, opened on 18 January 1894 and was pulled down October 1965. Built in the same location as the old one, the new concrete pier opened in November 1997. Damaged in the February 2011 earthquakes, repairs to the pier were completed in 2018, costing around $9 million.

He Puna Taimoana Hot Pools offers a range of amenities including spacious changing rooms, showers, paid and unpaid lockers, and an attached cafe. The pool overlooks the sea and is hot but can get crowded. There's also a good-sized exercise pool for proper swimming and a hydrotherapy pool with warm water and lots of jets. The facility provides easy access for disabled individuals with low steps or ramps into the pools.
Great spot! Pools of different heat levels and a sauna with a view of the beach. Make sure to book in advance before you arrive. You get a two hour time slot.

He Puna Taimoana Hot Pools offers a fantastic experience, especially if you visit during off-peak hours where the pricing is incredibly reasonable – we felt it was great value for money! The changing rooms are very well-appointed and clean, though only one hairdryer was working during our visit. The staff were nice and all the pools were truly lovely, providing a wonderful relaxing soak. My main gripe was having to wait outside in the rain for our time slot rather than in an indoor area, or even the cafe. It would be a much better experience if they allowed guests to wait inside. I definitely recommend booking ahead to secure your spot.
Bianca T — Google review
Such a beautiful location - right next to the beach! A much different experience to any other hot pools we've been to. I love that they accommodate both families and couples (perfect for date night!). The sunrise sessions are also top notch - a definite must-do for Canterbury locals, and anyone visiting the region. Such an asset to New Brighton ♡

The Cardboard Cathedral, also known as the Transitional Cathedral, was built as an interim replacement for a church damaged in a 2011 earthquake. Located near the severely-damaged Christ Church Cathedral, it has become a symbol of Christchurch's resilience and rebuilding efforts. Designed by architect Shigeru Ban, this innovative structure is made of cardboard tubes, polycarbon roofing, and shipping container walls.
What a beautiful church. I felt lucky to have the chance to visit. It’s free to enter, and the most impressive part is that the main structure is made of cardboard tubes — really amazing.

We visited in early October , nice and unique church. There was a singing choir and service going on so we attended it. Made some donations , hope it goes to help in the rebuilding of the church building funds. Nice and interesting building structure.

Popped in while exploring Christchurch and was honestly impressed — simple but stunning. Love how they turned something so unusual into a powerful symbol after the earthquake. It was worth a quick visit! It’s not huge, but the architecture is awesome, and there’s a lot of meaning behind it. Nice quiet place to just sit and take it in for a bit. Didn’t expect to be so moved by a cardboard building! It's modern, clever, and surprisingly warm inside. It's definitely a must-see if you're in the area. Closing time is 4pm

The cardboard cathedral is a temporary home for the Anglican community of Christchurch since the original cathedral was badly damaged in the 2011 earthquake. It is made of recyclable materials. It is now dwarved by the new stadium.

Interesting Cathedral - built as an interim replacement of the Christchurch cathedral damaged in Earthquake. Gets it name from the cardboard tubes used for the walls and roof. Interiors looks pretty simple (viewed from outside, couldn't enter the church as it was closed). Stain glass on the facade looks nice.

Visitors can explore the replica Edwardian township with its shops and cottages while enjoying homemade treats like scones and lamingtons.
Even though we were there for about an hour and a half (right at the end of the day) it was an absolute blast of a time. It was awesome with the old steam trains and trams there. The staff were kind and pointed us In the right direction when we got lost but definitely go in the sunny days awesome views and you can travel around the whole village visiting different shops and even a fire station museum. We only had time to go on the steam train but next time we will definitely go on the tram.

Great place with lots to do and see. Parking was relatively easy since we arrived early entrance by the "old post office". Lots of old shops and houses to visit set out in an easily navigable layout. There is also a heritage tram and a heritage steam railway ride. The rain didn't dampen our spirits and we could have stayed longer. This was definitely worth a visit

This heritage museum at Ferrymead was operated by many enthusiastic elders whom want to share their memories to all of us. You can find so many unbelievable collections that some of them were donated from different people. They paid a lot efforts to maintain it and provided a very fantastic place to let us enjoy! I really appreciated their attitudes as we shall be recall some memories from their collections, old cars, farm equip, air planes, lots of things…. Must go!

We had a wonderful day with the family. So much to see and do and such friendly and helpful volunteers who work here. Mr Black was suitably somber and authoritative as the school master, the printery staff were wonderful helping the grandies make their notebooks, the food trucks/ tent had a nice range of food, the 'Picture' Theatre and movie was fantastic and of course all the museums, train and tram rides were fun and interesting. A highlight was having the Sumner Brass Band playing on the green. We didn't have time to sit and listen for long as there was so much else to see and do. The toilets are dotted all over the park, they all were lovely and clean and well stocked. The rose garden was truly beautiful, we loved reading the labels of the roses which were blooming beautifully. We were disappointed that the steam train was not running, especially as the advertising stated it would be. Overall, a wonderful day out for the whole family, old and young ☺️. Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who keep it running.

Alpine Jet Thrills - Braided Shallows in Christchurch offers a unique and ever-changing experience of the lower Waimakariri's braided river system. With experienced drivers, the jet boat ride takes you through shallow areas with thrilling speed and spins. Visitors have raved about the Wilderness Safari Experience, organized privately for a group on a cruise from Melbourne, as the highlight of their holiday.
"Embarking on a fantastic tour from Christchurch, I was greeted by stunning scenery during the drive. The location was fantastic, matched by exceptional service, making for a wonderful experience. One highlight was meeting Peggy, the adorable Merino lamb, in the incredibly well-maintained garden walk was wonderful. The gift shop stood out with its delicious honey and we got most of out gift from here. Booking directly, instead of through the cruise ship, proved advantageous as it allowed more time on the water and saved money, blending thrill-seeking adventure with moments of peace, relaxation, and breathtaking views. The museum, detailing the history of the jet boat, was remarkable. It clearly showcased the immense pride and passion Paul and Robin have for the industry." Gourmet Burger Lunch was wonderful with some yummy cakes at the end. A true home cooked feel and taste that I love so much. Thank for a wonderful experince a true highlight of our 14 day adventure.

I throughly enjoyed my Jet Boat experience on the picturesque Waimakariri River in this companies very comfortable, safe and super powerful water craft. The skipper knew the river inside out and thrilled all the passengers with many 360 degree high speed rotations and as we traveled many kilometres down steam then back upstream again. The very friendly shore staff even had a nice hot cuppa and bikies ready for us on our return. Love how they have automatic ball dispenser, if that is what they call it. And so cheap. Not many people go here so it'll be a chill game and they are open until late afternoon. They have mini golf and different courses. They have a cafe too, I think they closes late too so you can enjoy beverages and foods until you had enough. The prices of their drinks are affordable too, I got a can of coke for 2.50 I think. You should try and go here. Golfing with good scenery is a bonus too.

Embark on the TranzAlpine train, renowned as one of the most spectacular rail journeys globally. This five-hour expedition spans 139 miles through awe-inspiring South Island landscapes, from the expansive Canterbury Plains to the rugged peaks of the Southern Alps. The route offers breathtaking views of deep gorges and tree-lined rivers. Travelers can opt for a stopover in Arthurs Pass or continue to Greymouth for an immersive experience.
Amazing service offered by everyone right from the ticket counter. It is always recommended to reserve your tickets online as there are limited seats. The topography changes quickly & beautifully in a way we feel some movie is on the screen. The coach was nice and comfortable with very clean & fresh interiors. The seats were spacious and comfortable with a table placed between every set of four seats. During our journey there was some work undergoing at the Arthur pass tunnel. So we had to get down & board a bus and travel on a bus for 15 minutes then get onto the train after the tunnel. It was arranged perfectly well without any kind of confusion. We missed the train journey through the tunnel.

I travelled to NZ to do both the TranzAlpine and the Coastal Explorer and I have to say that both of these didn't disapoint. Check in was on point and staff were friendly and helpful. Train itself is very modern with large glass windows, seats are very comfortable and clean. The buffet car is very well stocked and everything is reasonably priced 👍👍. I enjoyed the open air carage at the end of the train where you can feel the freshness as the train climbs through the mountains, this also provides alot of beautiful senic photo opertunitys. I believe that train travel is one of the best ways to see the country side and if you have the opportunity to add this to your travels please do it as you won't regret it.

The Bridge of Remembrance is a striking stone archway located in the pedestrian precinct around Cashel Street in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was built in the 1920s as a memorial to soldiers from Canterbury who lost their lives in World War I. The bridge also honors those who served in World War II and other conflicts. Following damage from the 2011 earthquake, extensive repair work was undertaken.
The arch commemorating the First World War is very spectacular when seen in person! There are many bars, restaurants and shops, it is a good place to stay for 2-3 hours! Very conveniently located in the heart of Christchurch. But the shops closed quite early, around six o'clock many shops were already closed.

The weather added to the nostalgia of the moment - in remembrance of those who gave everything serving during the first world war. Beautiful parks on either side, with autumnal colours adding to the drama. Walking distance from CHC business and shopping district with several restaurants and coffee shops in close proximity.

Whilst not much of old Christchurch still stands following the 2011 earthquake the bridge of Remembrance still does. It’s also as if it stood its ground during the tremors in defiance. It’s a poignant reminder of those that gave their lives during times of war.

Its quite big in terms of scale. It is at a very central location. It’s a monument so it’s good if you’re visiting Christchurch to have a picture taken there for memory sake there are places to shop and eat nearby and the bridge is quite scenic with a very beautiful walk. They are always tourists so you can always ask someone to take a picture.

Absolute beauty of an establishment with a chance of becoming thick in the wallet instead of the hips, amazing bar staff, wait, table staff, security, restaurant staff and decent management. Loved spending every dollar at this beautiful eloquent facility of gambling 🤍 will be spending again. Thank Yous Chritchurch Casino

This casino has a fantastic atmosphere. However, as Christchurch isn't a huge city, the selection of table games available during the day might not be very satisfying. Evenings see a decent number of people, but it's not what I would call lively. It's a good place to enjoy the ambiance.

Christchurch Casino delivered an unforgettable night—pulsing energy, friendly staff, and a great mix of games. I had a blast at the tables and even walked away with a nice win! From the sleek interiors to the delicious bar bites between rounds, everything felt top‑notch. Remember to play responsibly, set your limits, and most importantly, have fun!

I am a reasonable regular at the Casino and have been happy to date with the food. Went there Tonite for my birthday with a friend. The food was disgusting (chicken schnitzel) and the chips were like eating wet carpet. The staff seemed so grumpy as well. Just to top off our visit, we were abused by some vagrant playing a guitar outside the casino begging for money. Don't feel safe going to casino o anymore and will give it a miss in future

This review is about the restaurant in the casino, and not the casion itself, which seems good. I ordered the blue cod fish and chips for lunch. It included a small salad which is the best part of the dish. The salad is fresh and had a nice dressing. The chips were OK, but the fish was a bit disappointing as it didn't taste anywhere as nice as blue cod from other places. The fish was a bit mushy, possibly due to not being fresh. Other dishes looked OK, but need to taste them before making a comment. I also tried the lamb roast on another day, and it wasn't much good. The meat was below average, and the vegetables were overcooked. I have had better lamb elsewhere. Thank you.

A couple winners, a couple losers, overall a great night out with the boys. Great range of beers on tap and be sure to try the Reuben sandwich from their restaurant, it’s 10/10

Lots of machines and tables. The reason for 3 star is because I am used to membership areas in Australia where you have drinks and private machines for silver or gold, but they only have a premium tier area. I have played too much, if you calculate my win loss easily over 20k, but still no offer for a higher tier membership. I guess you have to spend 50k in out to get offered an upgrade. They do offer a coke machine with 2 drinks per day, but I feel like after so much cash flow through their establishment they would have offered me or my partner an upgraded membership. It's small and cute, like an oversized pub.

The Court Theatre, formerly located in Christchurch's CBD but now situated in the suburb of Addington due to earthquake impact, continues to offer a diverse range of stage performances. From classical plays to improv and from comedy to children's theatre, this venue caters to a wide array of tastes. The talented and passionate troupe of actors ensures high-quality shows that appeal to various audiences.
An amazing experience to attend the Court. A great example of the exciting new building rampage that's on in Christchurch at the moment. I love laminated timber constructions. Also a great show. End of the Gokden Weather...a kiwi classic. Great to see Ian Mune and Mark Hadlow still going strong.

The newly built theatre is a lovely venue. We were in the Front Room where the front seats are very low down but surprisingly comfortable. You couldn't be any closer to the performance either. The show, End of Summertime, was very well done and quite moving. Front of house pizzas before the show were nice too. All in all, excellent.

Dear Team, My husband and I are originally from Europe, where the arts, especially theatre, are a big part of life and held to a very high standard. Since moving to New Zealand two years ago, one of the things we've really missed is that rich cultural scene. We've tried a few theatre experiences here, but to be honest, they didn’t quite meet our expectations in terms of professional level. But after seeing The King’s Speech last Saturday, I turned to my husband and said, “My faith in theatre in New Zealand has just been restored!” It was absolutely incredible - a truly professional and powerful production. The performances were fantastic, the scenography was beautiful, and the whole atmosphere in the theatre was so warm and welcoming. It was simply a wonderful experience from start to finish. We’re so happy to have found a place where we can enjoy strong, high-quality theatre again. I’ve already bought tickets for Wolf Play - we can’t wait! A huge thank you to all the actors and every member of the team who made this show so special. Your hard work really shines.

Amazing place and the best theatre in New Zealand. Didn't see any show but went with a group of business people from Business Canterbury. Really good talent there and the costume department is very impressive. Looking forward to watching some productions here.
Pauls D — Google review
Four of us were looking forward to visiting the new Court Theatre. We booked tickets and arrived at the Theatre at 6.35pm to collect the tickets. At 7.15pm we went in the queue to go into the theatre. We were shocked to realise there were no allocated seats as per numbers on our tickets, all the high seats were taken and only left front row low seats (approximately 400mm or 16" from the ground). These seats are totally inadequate for adults, especially with mobility issues. At no point in all the information that was supplied when you purchased the tickets was it explained about the lack of allocated seats and the very low unfit for purpose front seats. This took our appreciation and enjoyment of the outing away. The production was good. Totally disappointed with our experience and would not recommend this theatre to friends and family. Please do not paste your standard response (as per other reviews I have read who were equally disappointed too!!!). You can and should do better than that Court Theatre. You have not maintained your usual high standards sadly.

On Wednesday I attended a performance with my son of "The Kings Speech". I tip my hat to all the preformers, but most definitely to the lead who played Berty. To portrait a stammer to such believable level is a credit to him. Beautiful facility that was well worth the wait.

Disappointed they do not accept cash. Tourists often use cash to avoid expensive card fee's and children are unable to purchase treats for the show with their pocket money. The new facility is quite nice though.

The Isaac Theatre Royal, located in the heart of Christchurch, is a beautifully restored 1908 theater with a rich history. Originally known as the Canterbury Music Hall, it has retained much of its original ornate interior and architecture. Following restoration work in the late 1990s to strengthen it against earthquakes, the theater survived significant seismic events in 2010 and 2011.

The most amazing experience at Blood Brothers 4pm Show on Sunday., the show was outstanding. Over and above that, was the extra attention given to me by a lovely usher , having very recently had a foot fracture and I was in a moonboot with crutches. Thank you Maggie for popping my crutches away under my seat for me and getting me a small pillow to put my leg on and also coming back at half time to say you had tried unsuccessfully to find me another seat so that I could put my foot up more comfortably. Your kindness was very much appreciated.

Truly a beautiful building, really worth taking a look around after your event. It has some regal views and the dome up top is genuinely quite elegant. The only downside is that the seating area is fairly tight / small, but that's quite typical for classical theatres.

It was my first time to pay a visit to Isaac Theatre Royal for the Dracula Ballet Premier. Five stars, highly recommended.

Always a delight to visit this venue. Maybe the doors tobthe theatre could be opened earlier so not enough seats in the foyer. Especially when my elderly mum has to stand...

Isaac is the iconic highlight of the city! Both exterior and interior are unique Edwardian style, rebuild completely after earthquake. The atmosphere inside is just great with close to the stage creating unique bond between performers and spectators. We have visited multiple times for various events, concerts and plays and it never disappoints. Staff is super helpful and friendly offering fantastic service from the moment you step through the doors. Only improvement will be if seats were more comfortable and the design of seats is not the best as if someone tall sits in front of you it will block the view, but you can still manage for 2 hours.

A lovely old Theatre. It is a pity the seating isn't in between the row in front. I went to Blood Brothers Sun and couldn't see the stage at all. Only by bobbing between heads in front did I get a viewing at times. For $75 the show was worth it but viewing was not.

Such a gorgeous beach to go and visit and still cool to see that you can climb Cave rock as I remember being able to do it when I was younger. Outdoor activity organiser
Velocity Karts is an outdoor activity organiser that uses wind power to move its mini go-kart-like things around a track. It's great for racing friends, tracking your time, and having some fun in the chase.
Velocity carts is a great little New Zealand company offering land sailing, in their custom designed and made “blocarts”. These carts are fast and extremely manoeuvrable. You can learn to drive a blocart well within one session, although if you have experience in other forms of sailing that is a definite advantage. The controls are simple, a steering wheel and a main sheet (rope) which controls the sail. At the beginning of your first session, the instructors will show a video detailing how to use a blocart and then explain how best to steer through the course. The staff will then be on the course to give advice on how to improve and to ensure your safety. In windy conditions sail sizes can easily be reduced or heavier wheels added to ensure greater stability. The cost of the experience in 2024 was $75NZ per hour per person. Book your experiences through the website.

I thought I'd head here over the weekend as I got emailed a 2 for 1 voucher for the weekend. Wasn't impressed by the noisy fans blowing on me when sitting supervising my children. One on each side of the steps blowing full speed and noisy. I approached a staff member to let them know. He suggested I sit under the fan on the step! Still wouldn't of stopped the loud noise! However he turned it off and I was happy to leave one on that way it gave me the option to move to the other side away from the fan. There was only couple other people sitting there and I could see by their reactions they weren't happy with the fans either. I know it's hot in there and fans can be beneficial but maybe point them in another direction. Apart from the fan issue nice trampoline park. Can buy cafe coffee which is a nice option.

The Bridle Path Walk is a popular 2.4km trail that leads from the Port Hills to Lyttelton, offering stunning views over Lyttelton Harbour. It's a classic route for both walkers and cyclists, with a steep incline but rewarding scenery. The walk provides fantastic views of the eastern part of Christchurch and is perfect for cooler weather due to ample sunlight. While there are only a few benches along the way, the panoramic vistas make it worthwhile.
First time visit. Nice. Worth taking the gondola up. The view is panoramic and beautiful. My family enjoyed the hike very much.

I personally lover this treat! If you're looking for a moderate hike with historical significance and panoramic views, this is definitely one to consider. The trail itself is well-maintained, though it does involve a steady incline. Expect a mix of paved sections and gravel paths and maybe a bit of grasslands, so good shoes are recommended. You'll get sweeping vistas of Lyttelton Harbour, the city, and the surrounding hills. It's a fantastic spot for photos, so bring your camera. Note: Parking can be a bit tricky, especially on weekends, so arriving early is advisable. Cheers, BinkyT

Lovely views once up top! Quite a steep walk up if you follow the pipe line. Not much shade so watch out for the sun. Not the most naturally interesting walk. Can get a bite to eat and fill up your water at the gondola station. I also got a free ride down!

This hill walk offers a fantastic view of the eastern part of Christchurch when approached from the gondola parking area. It's quite steep, but the breathtaking scenery makes it worthwhile. The abundance of sunlight during the walk makes it perfect for cooler weather. If you have walking sticks or poles, they would come in handy for the steep downhill return. The only downside is that the gondola isn't free for way down like that in the adventure park.

I only had limited time in Christchurch. Our scheduled day trip to Mt. Sunday (Edoras filming location) was canceled due to extreme weather conditions. Our driver, Cheryl, volunteered to take us the following day even though they hadn't planned to do a tour then. Our tour was amazing! Cheryl is a great and knowledgeable guide and the scenery is stunning. It was an incredible trip and I'm so thankful they worked to make it happen for us. I highly recommend this tour whether you're a fan of the Lord of the Rings or not! Thank you for an awesome trip!

Amazing tour of Mount Sunday with Cheryl. Such a knowledgeable guide and shared so many stories related to the Lord of the Rings to suit our tour. The scenery was amazing and and knowing the areas where Rohan and Helms Deep were filmed was a LOTR fan dream come true.
Nicola C — Google review
Just finished an amazing Edoras/Mount Sunday tour hosted by Natasha today. 100% worth the price if you like The Lord of the Rings. Even if you don’t, the scenery is beautiful. But you will no doubt appreciate the experience more having watched the movies. On the ride to and from, you hear insights, stories and anecdotes about the production of the movie and the location, a lot I’ve never heard before because they come from friends of the guide who worked on the movies. A few of the stories are quite funny as well. You also hear about the natural history of the land. The scale and size of Edoras is deceiving, when you get close to it, it is massive and bigger than you would think. The shots in the movies or any picture online don’t prepare you for how much grand the location is in person. When hiking the mountain I had to take a few breaks cause of asthma. Natasha was very considerate and cared for everyone’s welfare though and checked in on me, at no time did I feel rushed. The hike itself isn’t hard or take very long to summit. But the altitude and asthma hit me like a rock, never had an attack in a very long time as well, came out of nowhere halfway up the mountain. So asthma sufferers out there, do the tour, just make sure you take your reliever, take your time climbing up and take breaks. For lunch Natasha brought us to a spot overlooking Edoras/Mount Sunday - was the perfect location just to admire the scenery. They have lawn/picnic chairs you can sit on. Sandwiches, fruit, cake, water, juice and wine were served. The experience was worth it, we were lucky we got the perfect guide to show us Edoras as well. It is a long day though. Was picked up at 9am got back to the hotel around 7pm. A few bathroom breaks, one 30 minute stop at the Stavely Store/Cafe in Stavely for morning tea, + a couple of extra sightseeing stops on the way to Edoras. Also note, Edoras/Mount Sunday is a very very windy area 🌬️

My husband and I LOVED the Mount Sunday tour. We're big Lord of the Rings fans so seeing where Edoras was built and filmed was magical. Yet even aside from that, Mount Sunday is undoubtedly an incredible place to visit. The hike up was tough but not too long, and we were allowed to carry a replica sword and axe from LOTR which made it more fun. The view from the top is absolutely stunning. A really incredible place. Our guide Natasha was wonderful - she gave us heaps of interesting info about the area, the filming of LOTR and building of the sets, and some great stories about friends of hers who were extras on the films. She was also a wonderful photographer, going the extra mile to get good angles of us holding the flag of Rohan at the top of Mount Sunday! This was one of our favourite places we visited in NZ. Highly recommend whether you are a LOTR fan or not (but if you are, you really have to go - it's no wonder this was a favourite location of so many of the actors!) Thanks again Natasha!

Had an amazing tour today with Natasha who was helpful, insightful, and enthusiastic. The lunch provided was excellent, it was lovely eating with such beautiful views. The walk itself up to the top is not too strenuous, but a jacket and sun cream is essential. I would recommend doing this if you are a LOTR fan, or even just a fan of gorgeous views!

Had the time of my life!!! Been waiting 20 years or so to do this tour and finally did it. It was just as breathtaking as I thought it would be. Our guide (Lindsay?) was a wealth of knowledge. 100% recommend to any LotR fan!

Had an absolutely amazing experience with the "Alpine Safari Tour" Admittedly, booking from the website was a little complicated, but as soon as I jumped on the phone, the process was as smooth as can be. The office ladies were very helpful and ensured our booking went through. So after a hotel pick-up, the bus was off, heading in to the mighty southern alps. With insightful commentary on the way. Our your guide Hiker was very passionate about native flora and had an In depth source of knowledge of the farming practices seen along the route. Arriving in the foothills, we embarked upon a 4x4 expedition through the farm lands, getting a close up view of lands not normally seen by tourists. Seeing sheep, cattle, heffas and various crops, we were informed about both the history of the land and practices used currently. Finishing our off roading, we then boarded a jet boat, piloted by the very hilarious Greg. A 60 minute long thrill ride into the canyons of the river. With many 360 degree turns, cooling us off on the warm day and experiencing a special view of the gorge and railway bridges. With commentary on the way, Greg took us close to rocks and banks 25 km up river. On arriving back at the base, we were then treated to a NZ lunch. The chance to relax, watch sheep shearing and have a bite to eat was needed, as we dried out a bit. A tasty lunch set us in the right mood for the next coach ride. The bus took us up, into the southern alps, highlighting scenery, history and modern land uses along the way. The 90 minute trek was soothing, taking in the stunning views. Arriving into Arthur's Pass slightly early, we all decided to view the visitor information centre with 3D pictogram of the South island. The TransAlpine Railway train arrived right on schedule, returning from the long trip to Greymouth. A simple boarding process, and we were on our way. The views from the train heading back to Christchurch were absolutely stunning. Some slight precipitation from the alps cleared upon our recent leaving some breath taking scenery, including the previously adventures gorge. With both a cafe cart and outdoor viewing car, it was easy to relax on the train with a reasonably priced beverage. Arriving back into Christchurch, Hiker was standing on the platform, waving us in. A short 5 minute drive back to the hotel and we were done for the day, albeit slightly wrecked. I would highly recommend the tour. It was the most inclusive and best value tour we have had yet in NZ. It is paced for any age, as long as they can sit in their own seat and won't fall off the Jet Boat. 5 stars from me!!

I booked the Edoras Tour activity via one of their partner website "Lordoftheringstours". There was a communication problem concerning the meal, and the indications were not transmitted between the two companies. But the guide corrected that the same day and bought me another sandwitch. The day was beautiful and the scenery perfect. We were a small group of 8 people, it was friendly. There were many videos on the bus. On Mount Sunday, we could take a picture with 4 replicas of weapons (a pity that there was no the stick of Gandalf as in the pictures of the website). Our guide was friendly and interesting. The day was very good. But I was just disappointed at the end of the tour when I asked to buy products of Edoras (as mentioned in the both sites : "Selection of merchandise available for purchase" on hasslefreetours; "Unique Edoras merchandise only available through us" on lordoftheringstours). The guide informed me that it was not possible since some years. It might be good to update your website because I had imagined leaving this day with a t-shirt of the Rohan and I was disappointed... But the day was very good on the whole !

Ko Tane is an experience where you can learn about the Maori culture and lifestyle before the arrival of European settlers. You'll see a traditional Powhiri welcome, a cultural performance, and an optional Kiwi Tour. There's also a Maori village with food and entertainment.
Amazing experience!!! We got to know so much about the Maori culture. This is the only one in South Island I believe which has the Maori village set up with a performance. They have different options- one with just the performance (1.5-2 hrs)and one with dinner . Prices highly vary so check out their official website for details first before booking via a tour agent. The performance and haka and complete experience is amazing!

We stumbled across this place while searching for things to do on our last weekend in New Zealand, we were flying home from Christchurch after a doing a year's working holiday. So glad we did it though! It really does give you an authentic experience as the people that work there are genuine Maoris and still perform many of the practices show there Ko Tane in school and in their own time. They are very proud and passionate about it all too... It's really cool. I don't want to give anything away but they get you doing all sorts of fun things! The food was awesome too though it's a bit sad that it was some of the performers that had to serve it to us; feels like they should just go and rest up although it was a good opportunity to meet them and thanks them personally! Oow gotta give a shout out to the minibus driver too... What a legend.

Mona Vale Garden Park is a historic homestead from the early 1900s, featuring formal gardens, riverside walks, and a restaurant. The park is renowned for its diverse collection of perennial and rare trees, making it one of Christchurch's most famous parks. Visitors can explore different plant species housed in greenhouses on the premises. The elegant Mona Vale residence within the park offers insight into Christchurch's rich history, including its resilience following the 2011 earthquakes.
A lovely place for a stroll. Benches are placed throughout the property, there is a café, and free, guided tours are offered some days (e.g., two Saturdays in May). I especially liked the Fernery, with its coolness and tranquility. People were enjoying a sunny autumn day on the café’s patio.
Laura C — Google review
At this time of year it's beautiful. So many spring flowers. The fernery is magic. Mulled wine at the café delicious 😋
Kara G — Google review
Really enjoyed the walk in this garden with everything blooming being Spring. Lots of close parking off Mona Vale Ave, cafe available part time, lots of seating dotted about, lovely river flowing through with lots of ducks and little bridges to cross. Hours open from 7am - 9pm in Summer, Winter 7am - 5.30pm. Fernery was my favorite and the stain glass gaebo, could easily spend a couple of hours looking around with multiple buildings on site. Originally called Karewa, architect Joseph Clarkson Maddison designed the homestead in 1899. In 1905 the property was purchased by wealthy heiress Annie Townsend who renamed the homestead Mona Vale after her Mothers birth place in Tasmania.

The place it’s beautiful and well kept. The sound of water, the little bridges, the trees, everything is really pleasing to eyes. I was there today (early October) on perfect warm day. I stayed there for 3 hours. The food I ordered for lunch was chicken its was tasty, big portion, fresh. The food was not greasy , just the right level of tenderness. Just my Personal preference, I would have liked the chicken on a plate rather than a bowl, because my cutlery was making noise. 😂 The staff is so polite. It’s for all ages. If you are meeting up with some, the easiest is to meet at the cafe, rather than the entrance because there are multiple entrances.

Victoria Park, located in Christchurch, New Zealand, is a popular recreational area offering a variety of activities for visitors. The park features well-maintained lawns, landscaped gardens, and trails suitable for hiking and mountain biking. It is situated atop the suburb of Cashmere and provides stunning views of the Canterbury Plains, Southern Alps, Pegasus Bay, and the surrounding Christchurch community.
This park is very spacious with lots of play structures for the little ones. It's very clean and has lots of picnic tables for a family event. It's a nice place to play and go for a stroll on their awesome walking trail and beautiful view.Lots of green space to look around, as well as a few ponds which are all pretty nice! ✅

Small car park over the road. Awesome views. Water fountain- just a trickle though. Pretty clean. Nice people. Extremely windy day I was there. Reasonably large. Overall very good.
Christina R — Google review
The hike was enjoyable accompanied by the stunning scenic. There were couple of issues to address. Firstly, there were some trails that were poorly maintained making it less visible to first comer such as myself. Secondly, the map wasn't as helpful as I'd hoped. I have been lost couple of times walking in circles because the trails were not visible. However, I wasn't in a panic as I don't think it is possible to get "lost lost" as the more obvious trails will lead to some carpark. Therefore, I believe this trail is easy to medium level, perfect for new comer. The trails should be made more obvious to the eyes using things like flags or something. The map should also be more clear showing the tracks rather than just a blur image of a track; this makes identifying surrounding easier. I started with "Harry Ell Walkway"(2) then to "Mitchells Track"(8). From the Bowenvale car park, I went with the "Bowenvale Reserve Walk"(10) merges into the "Eastside Bush Track"(5) back to the "Victoria Car Park". Note: At (10) merging into (5), that was after a gate, first turn. The trail will be very narrow. At (8), stop there to enjoy the view. There's a detour that you can get closer to getting a clear view of the crater. At (5) near the Victoria Park, the description said it was a steep hill. Yes, it was literally just a hill. That wasn't off the footpath just lack flags or indication that that's the literal footpath.

Friendly staff, drop-off and pick-up couldn't be easier getting new tyres changed and not overtly priced. All these done from the moment you get your coffee (free from the vending machine) to finishing up till the last drop.

Victoria Park, nestled in the hills of Cashmere in Christchurch, offers stunning panoramic views of the city, Canterbury Plains, and Lyttelton Harbour. This serene park is a haven for nature lovers, with its network of walking and mountain biking trails winding through native bush and exotic trees. A popular destination for picnics and outdoor activities, the park also features a playground and a scenic lookout point. Its peaceful environment and natural beauty make Victoria Park a cherished escape for both locals and visitors.

Stunning location, parked up and worked on some files while taking in the incredible views. A great place for families and people to come and enjoy some easy walks and soak up the sun.
Philip E — Google review
Great playground for the kids. The slide is amazing. Sunsets can be stunning from up on the hill. There are quite a few picnic tables, some of them under shelter in case it's wet. There are also a couple tucked in odd spots around the park in and amongst trees which can be a bit more sheltered for when it is windy.
Othniel C — Google review
This is a great park, perfect for views over the city, Southern Alps and the Kaikoura’s to the North. The park has the usual playground for kids, with a epic old school slide. Great park for picnics or to access numerous walking trails. Don’t miss the 19th Battalion memorial park which is towards the highest point (southern end). Early to mid morning offers best views of mountain or early evening if you want to hear native birds

Riccarton Sunday Market is New Zealand’s largest outdoor market and a must-visit attraction in Christchurch. Held every Sunday, rain or shine, from 9am to 2pm at Riccarton Racecourse. By the time we arrived at about 10 am, some locals have already completed their shopping ready to leave. There we also quite a few stall not opened. There were fresh fruits and vegetables, pre-loved goods, clothing, and art, to food stalls serving up a variety of local and international cuisines. The atmosphere is lively and family-friendly, with free entertainment and music from local artists adding to the buzz. Entry, parking, and entertainment are all free, making it an accessible and affordable outing for everyone. The market is a treasure trove for bargain hunters, collectors, and foodies alike, and there’s plenty of space to relax with family and friends while enjoying delicious food from the food court. With its wide variety of goods, welcoming vibe, and community spirit, Riccarton Sunday Market is the ideal way to spend a Sunday morning in Christchurch.

Small than when I was here 9 yrs ago. But still worth going. Was looking for Maori Taunga for my grandchildren. There were 4 stalls with greenstone and carved bone . Necklaces, earrings, rings etc . Managed to find what we were looking for😀. On an aside the food trucks and stalls were delicious 😋 large range of foods. KS cakes and creations. The cookies were delicious and well worth the money. Check out her goodies. Yummmmm sorry eaten before thought to take photos. But trees are beautiful this time of year. Blossoms everywhere.

Disappointing! An hour on the buses, one way, to get to the market, then inadequate signage to the market , once on Riccarton Park grounds. (It’s through Gate 5, fyi.) It’s held “rain or shine” - but there were only five lonely vendors (including one with fresh produce) on this rainy day, Easter Monday.

The market never disappoints! The food, entertainment, bouncy castles and such an array of stalls from toys, books, to furniture
Sarah M — Google review
Used to be a great little market with heaps of local produce and products and great food. Now its like I'm shopping on temu except everything is 30X price just cheap brought from china rubbish. There are still a few true local stools selling honest products but not many and there were maybe 2 or 3 food trucks selling something worth buying the rest was just extremely low quality frozen/store brought and put in a deep fryer rubbish. A real shame and a far cry from what it used to be. There are to many other markets that are far better to bother coming back to this one. Don't mean to be rude just up front and honest
Hugh C — Google review
The Riccarton Sunday market is definitely the best market Christchurch offers. Including food stalls, art/craft, second-hand treasures, live entertainment, produce and plants for gardening to name a few...this market has something for everyone. Bottle Lake Forest Park is a picturesque pine forest in northeast Christchurch, spanning 800 hectares. It offers a variety of activities such as mountain biking, horseback riding, and hiking trails, along with a BMX course. The forest was established next to the Waitakiri wetlands in 1883 to prevent sand from encroaching on fertile soil. During the COVID-19 lockdown, families created fairy houses throughout the park, adding a touch of magic to the landscape.
First time visit. Was a pleasant surprising find. Walking the hiking trails and hearing the soothing sound of wind whistling through the tall trees was really therapeutic. I totally enjoyed the relaxing walk with my family :)
Joseph L — Google review
I mean, you can’t really get lost, but the trails could be marked better. The map was not necessarily helpful — even at trail intersections. I ended up just walking on the roads after a while out of frustration. I’m sure the regulars have no issues, but this was my first time here. I will have to come back and learn my way around.
Donald S — Google review
Went for a long run today and at first I was really impressed by the blue trail markers, but then they just stop being present and then you have to guess how to get to the southern pegasus bay track. Thankfully made it back right before pitch black but a little more signage would've been helpful. Not sure if I'll be back for a long run here.
Kaylee S — Google review
Almost an hour to the beach from the entrance, nice & flat foot path, i’d highly recommend this place if you enjoy taking a stroll while listening to your fav album. Remember to take a photo of the map before going in as the park itself is MASSIVE

This is an awesome place. Excellent parking. There are toilets. You need to bring water for dogs (small amount there). Currently quite a bit of logging going on so a lot of areas gated off. But there are still areas to walk. Enjoyable 😀
Christina R — Google review
It was awesome here. Unfortunately the working forest has been felled so much over the past 18 months its taken huge amounts of great woodland away. Keep getting told its only 15 years until this recovers.....

I go here almost every day! One of my favourite parts of Christchurch. Endless walking routes, beautiful trees and fantails. A cool hill amongst it to see over the trees and out to the ocean. Just love this place.
Zara P — Google review
I love bringing my puppy here. He's still too young to do longer hikes, so it's great having different length options. I do wish there would be more bins around the forest, as there is only one at the entrance (which is usually pretty full) and I've found other people's poo bags on the floor around the tracks several times. It's also a good idea to take a picture of the map at the entrance as it can get a bit confusing at some parts. There are tracks for walking and biking, which do cross each other at some points.

Great pool for all ages. Indoor and outdoor hydro slides, outdoor only for 5+ or over 107cm tall. Kids pools have a lazy river and two spots for rest and water massage, baby play area is spacious, swim pools are very clean and tidy. The only thing is there is only 3 family shower rooms and one of the two disability room was locked. Took a long time waiting for a room to become available. The pool will be close from 17Jan 2022 to 30 Jan 2022 for maintenance.

This is such a great pool and facilities. I showered in the female changing rooms and the shower temp was great. I went to help my daughter and grand daughter in the baby change area and the water was EXTREMELY hot, my daughter burnt her head. Fortunately, not my granddaughter. Over the last week the steam and sauna rooms have been cold 3 times at opening time (5.30am). This morning (Saturday 6am) Both were cold and unusable. When asking the female life-guard, her response was, 'its not my job". This person last week also had some smart remark when the lights weren't working in the Sauna when she decided to close the Sauna. I told her that it had been like this all week and her response was, 'well I wasn't on then'. After a time she let in a customer into the Sauna and when ask by another member of the public she responded 'I found the light switch' Is it possible to turn on the Sauna and Steam rooms before opening and show staff where the light switch is.

A nice exhibition of antiquities. A single room, but well presented with objects and descriptions. They had a "treasure hunt" going on in the room too, which was surprising because the room isn't very large. They had placed 10 Lego minifigures around the room. Once you had found them all, you could enter to win a prize. A nice way to keep the less interested kids busy whilst others can take more time to explore the exhibit. Good wheelchair accessibility. Toilets here were clean and spacious.

Great slides n pool price for 1 adult n child eg $20 total. It was so relaxing. Also 3 water slides..family spa..free bbqs..diving boards..indoor and outdoor pools!! Lotsa picnic areas too
Charstar81 — Google review
Good facility. I’ve been swimming lengths in the 25-metre pool, divided into single lanes. Water is a degree or two warmer than best for swimming lengths and is cloudy, so can’t see far ahead – next visit, the water was much clearer, so maybe a busy public-swimming week affects turbidity. Cost for a swim is NZ$6.70 (May 2025). Cubbyholes available on pool deck; lockers available; can leave valuables, such as phones, at front desk. Café has no vegan hot or cold baked goods, which is disappointing for a health-oriented facility. I did see a vegan Magnum ice-cream bar in the freezer. There is a second indoor pool, a kiddie pool, a whirlpool and a sauna, plus a seasonal outdoor pool and indoor gym spaces. (Change rooms could use a soap dispenser in the shower stalls, as well as a shelf and a second hook.)
Laura C — Google review
Great recreational facility, well maintained park with established trees, with gentle creeks and a lake, ducks etc. Disc golf course, pool complex, excellent facility.
Ray B — Google review
Great facility especially in summer when you can swim in the 50m outdoor pool. Lane swimming all good in the morning before the crowds come in on a hot day. Also have 2 x 25m indoor pools and a gym.
Nick T — Google review
My family and I are visiting from out of town, we paid $60 all up, they were happy to take our money at the front desk but failed to tell us that of the two pools they have there only half of one pool would be available for the kids to swim in.They have 2 pools there, the facility was absolutely PACKED with people like a friggin sardine tin and there was only half a pool available 🤯 the rest was lane swimming, even the baby pool had lanes?! my sister and I didn't even get into the water as there was no room but we had paid for our swim, but the manager wouldn't refund our swims we didn't have. Disgusting, over crowded, over charged and to top it off, the idiot doing the moss spraying on the outside of the building managed to spray my sister and her children and another lady and her child with moss killer spray (and also got it all over the bikes that were parked outside the building too).
Raylene J — Google review
Since COVID lockdown I've enjoyed returning to fitness and relaxation through the recreation centre Lost 6+ kilos whilst turning fat to muscle, and made some fun acquaintances here too! Fitness for life 💪😃
Stephen D — Google review
Very good complex but needs a Tog dryer like the other public pools , hence only four stars. Staff are great, saunas could be bigger at times.
Phil H — Google review
I would give it higher rating if they heated the pool to 28 so I don't freeze doing my laps. The yoga studio is freezing too. Had to wear lots of layers

🎳 Great spot to throw down a couple frames over some quality beers on tap and a pizza. If only my ten pin bowling form was as good as the lanes! Highly recommend coming here, we will be coming back soon. James Ashwin Kakapo Business Sales

Booked the Super Fun Pass ($28.90pp) last minute and it was so worth it! 2 games of bowling, a 600mL drink, 20mins of games and 200 powertickets…per person!Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and used the cards one after the after, so got 40mins of games really. A great afternoon/evening out and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Easy online booking system too.

Went here for 17th birthday party, was pretty chill and fun, only problem is they spelt some people's names wrong even though we clearly wrote the names correctly. Overall great place

We had such an amazing time celebrating my daughter’s birthday at Zone Bowling Garden City! The kids had an absolute blast with bowling, arcade games, and laser tag, it was non-stop fun from start to finish! 🎳🎮🔫 A huge thank you to Amber, our wonderful party host. Park
Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park, located in north-east Christchurch, is a haven for bird watchers with over 70 different species spotted there. The park spans 116 hectares and is home to an array of feathery friends such as teal, kingfisher, black swan, pied stilt, silvereye, and Australian Magpie. In addition to bird watching, visitors can explore the area's diverse native plants like manuka, New Zealand flax, and ferns.
Absolutely love the Travis wetlands. Just the right length for two pensioners to potter around, meeting other similar souls of all ages enjoying nature. Lots 9f information available too. Highlights on this visit: our first sighting of a NZ red Admiral, which is different from our UK species, but could have similar symbolism here, the proliferation of yellow flowers, all weeds in a cultivated garden, but completely at home here, some Pukeco, including a mother taking food to her adolescent chick.. and a pair of NZ raptors, circling.
Conrad C — Google review
We took a 1.5 hour walk around the wetland and was delighted by the stunning scenery of birds and New Zealand’s native plants. The bird-watching spots are thoughtfully placed—next time, we’ll be sure to bring binoculars to identify more of the birds. The wetlands’ natural habitats are truly valuable, serving as a crucial filtering area for the entire ecosystem. We look forward to returning for enjoyable walks on sunny days, with sunlight sparkling on the wet waters
Kwee ( — Google review
It is a wetland in the suburb of Burwood in Christchurch, New Zealand. An ecological restoration programme is being undertaken to restore the wetland. It covers 116 ha of land formerly drained and used as a dairy farm. The main car park and access point for Travis Wetland is at the end of Beach Road. Easy parking. The wetland is open 8am to 8 pm all year. Dogs are not allowed at the wetlands. There are public toilets near the main car park. Fair bit of walking around on the boardwalk and there is some tree shade. The circuit is long and can take more than an hour to complete. Lots of birds such as swans, swamphen, ducks, geese around - not many animals. Best to go early to avoid the heat. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Great place for photography.
S V — Google review
Great walk, a lot of space to also have a run too. This isn't a shared space, so you can't ride bikes or scooters here because of wildlife. Paths seem like they would be ok for wheelchairs & prams, but I would say if it's been raining I would suggest holding off on doing a full loop - half of the paths are just gravel.
Michelle — Google review
a really nice wetland with a lot of boardwalk sections and many cute ducks and birds 🥰

great walk in mostly native trees and shrubs as they have got rid of all the willows that were in there a few years ago. probably now back to its original look and feel. lots of birdlife to see.

Experience the thrill of indoor karting at Supa Karts, where you can challenge your friends and enjoy some adrenaline-pumping entertainment. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for some high-speed fun, Supa Karts offers an exciting track and a lively atmosphere. The staff goes above and beyond to make your experience memorable, offering extra rides or special treats for birthdays.
I had a great time here, the track is very fluid and is very enjoyable once you start chaining the corners, plenty of over taking spots here. The track had other racers but were very mature and we had a good racing session. I went for a solo run after and the experience was rewarding as the laps were fast and could really drive at the limit around the corners. One of the finest indoor tracks I have been to in NZ.
Shivang P — Google review
Will not be returning. Was 75$ for just me and my 11yr old daughter for 8 mins!! Also at reduced speeds! What a joke. Also there were no one else in the building when we were racing it was a Saturday. Game over is much better and more for your buck. The staff had cheeky smiles on them as we were coming back into the pits not sure why. Also didn’t even say goodbye. The only good experience was the induction at the start, the guy was nice, and that’s all. 2 star rating at best! Prices are outrageous and staff are useless
Shaun H — Google review
Friendly staff and great prices. Track is short but technical with different hairpins and turns. It’s also wide enough for overtaking other drives. I had a great experience here as a tourist.
Alson L — Google review
Excellent place to play. Friendly staff and the karts were stable and fun to drive. Circuit was a little small and narrow, but sufficiently fun. Came on a weekday in end Jun, we have had the whole circuit to ourselves.

“I visited on the evening of April 28 with my family and had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners. What an amazing experience it was! A special thanks to the owner and the staff member who kept checking in on my elderly parents — it truly meant a lot. We had a fantastic time, all thanks to the outstanding customer service. Christchurch needs more places like this!
Gaurish A — Google review
My husband and kids really enjoyed this place ! My husband was able to race with my children which was a plus! The karts have plenty of power and you can get even faster ones too. The staff were lovely. Little arcade and snacks available. Parking was relatively easy but there isn't a dedicated parking space. Reasonably priced and fun for the family.

Jellie Park is a picturesque destination in Christchurch, offering lush greenery, spacious grounds, and scenic walking paths. The park features charming ponds where visitors can relax and enjoy the serene atmosphere with their loved ones. Additionally, The Roxx indoor climbing center provides entertainment for all ages, making it an ideal family-friendly attraction within the park.
A beautiful park with plenty of parking available. We love watching the variety of ducks in the pond. The walkway are wheelchair accessible and well designed to enjoy all the scenic spots in the park. There are lots of activities for all ages.

Great place for families and fitness! Jellie Park has everything, indoor and outdoor pools, slides, spa, and gym. The outdoor area is perfect for summer, with lots of space to relax and picnic. Clean, well-kept, and friendly staff. Can get busy on warm days, but overall an awesome spot to swim or unwind!

Nice local space, boasting a disc golf course, small playground, skate park and a pond surrounded by lovely trees and plants. Very family friendly.
Anna R — Google review
There’s a great range of equipment—whether you're lifting weights, doing cardio, or just starting out, there's something for everyone. The staff are super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is welcoming and not intimidating, which is perfect for beginners and regulars alike. The pool and spa area are a bonus for recovery or just relaxing after a workout. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a solid place to train, swim, and unwind
D O — Google review
It’s great in the summer when the slides and diving boards are open. But winter time inside isn’t that great for kids. Pioneer and QEII offer more for children.
CL — Google review
The lake in the center of this park is stunning and tranquil. I think there are more ducks here than in any other park, and they show no fear of humans. When you sit by the lake, they will come up to you. Maybe many people feed them, so they behave that way.
Abe F — Google review
Good public pool facility for cheap price 7 dollars or 5 with community service card. Good spa and sauna with steam room too plus a lane pool with recreation area. Open till 9.30pm too
New A — Google review
This was my first swim in Jellie park's outdoor 50m pool after arriving into Christchurch from a long flight. Water temp was perfect (preferring cooler lap swim pools versus warmer ones) and they allow visitors for a modest entry fee. Super friendly and helpful staff. The outdoor 50m pool had lanes clearly identified by speed with required circle pattern even if you're swimming solo. Remember to circle clockwise, as they drive on the left side of the roads 😂 showers were nice and warm and men's locker rooms were clean. It was cool to see a Cafe inside with lots of food options. You could totally spend many hours here.
