We came here to celebrate a family member’s birthday. There were ten of us, including a child, and we had such a great time. The staff were super friendly and really accommodating, which made the experience more enjoyable. The food was amazing, I had the Island Pasta with shrimp, mussels, and octopus, and it was honestly so good, especially with the Greek lemonade. The menu had loads of options too, as you’ll see in the photos. We were a bit disappointed that we couldn’t try anything from the sushi menu since the Japanese chef wasn’t in that day, so if you’re hoping to try that, maybe check ahead with the restaurant. I also recommend the Island Salad, picture attached, which was served in a pineapple! They surprised us with a complimentary birthday sundae, a birthday hat and even sang a birthday song, which was such a sweet and thoughtful touch. It really made the celebration feel special. The view was beautiful, and all in all, it was a really memorable experience.

Although very busy restaurant especially at nights like weekends, staffs are patient , nice and friendly The view is amazing for a romantic sunset! We have been for lunch and drinks 3 times in the restaurant as was the closest to our hotel , I would also recommend the cocktails and food ! Weekend nights a little bit too busy and loud sounds! But lunchtimes are chill and amazing!

Beautiful high class restaurant way above the rest in the area. Top 5 star, wear your best. Staff lovely, and couldn’t help more, great ever changing nightly entertainment, great food. Quite expensive, more than its local competitors, but I think you get what you pay for. Great cocktails. Outside and inside seating beautiful for sunsets.

Stunning seaside location with excellent food and generous portions — worth the splurge! Island Restaurant in Gouves feels a step above your typical Greek taverna — more polished, almost upscale — with a stunning location perched on a small headland overlooking the sea. The food was excellent, served in very generous portions, though prices are on the higher side. When we visited it was quite windy, but their windshields worked perfectly to keep the terrace comfortable. Service was prompt and professional. The complimentary fruit plate at the end seemed a bit stale, as if it had been cut earlier in the day which was a shame. Not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning. Overall, though: expensive, yes — but with great food and an unbeatable setting, it’s well worth a visit.

The best spot to enjoy your stay. The owner/manager and staff are very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend it. Some evenings they had live music, We visited everyday while we stayed at Gouves. Prices are very reasonable and quality is good.

Was an amazing setting outside beside the sea, although blustery, it was still warm watching the sun set. The service was excellent, leaving us to just relax and chat between meals. Food was good, swordfish well cooked and prawns delicious.

Incredible place, amazing view, when we visited it had live saxophone show and was lovely. Also with a full moon. We enjoyed the food and especially the sweets and ice cream in the end!

We just had one of the best dinners ever! Ordered Shrimps in avocado and some other shrims (cant remember the name) :D for starter which were absolutely delicious and for main had a veal steak and grilled bream. OMG!!! Everything was cooked to perfection! The service was really good, we were well looked after. Place is clean and cosy. Food was absolutely amazing! Will I go there again? 110% YES!!!! When you ask for the bill, be prepared you will get a few shots of RAKI as a thank you for coming to dine there! Don’t look for any other place to eat around, just got to Medusa! :)

What lovely people work here! Nothing is too much trouble for them. They're incredibly hospitable...the food was delicious; we went back every day, even though we ate at the hotel. If you're in Crete, I definitely recommend it.

Went here recommended by the google reviews. OMG..... What can I say. Here's my feedback: Atmosphere was ok. Service was good. FOOD..... Now where should I begin? We ordered the starters. Saganaki cheese was overseasoned. Dolmas were stodgy. Calamari was overseasoned Halloumi was nothing special. The worst were the snails. Tasted Funky, snail to snail!!! No two tasted the same. Some tasted like paint, some bitter, some had hunch back, some hadnt changed the socks, other their underwesr.... We just gave up and asked for the bill and left. €70,00 for disgusting experience.

I went in without reservation but was able to get a table. Had lamb kleftiko and chicken pie. Tasted great. The stuffed wine leaves were tasty as well.

Best taverna in Kato Gouves! We were there for 3 nights in a row! Delicious dishes, fair prices, great atmosphere

EDIT. Of course we were in your restaurant, less than 2 weeks ago. We had one massive portion of unflattering and underseasoned Mediterranean pork, overbaked super spicy, basically uneateble, pizza (we took 80% of it with us then binned it) and overpriced wine. I have now edited my review to reflect your attitude and would recommend to accept that not all reviews will be 5 stars and not everyone will like your place. Food wasn't nice, was overpriced though and we didn't enjoy it at all. Quality over quantity, always.

It is a very good place, their slogan 'eat like a local' is 100% right. We met at least four people who served us. All of them were great. We ate chicken gyros and special souvlaki. Great beer, perfect water. I recommend it.

We kept coming back to Pella Tavern – every time the food was delicious, portions were huge and the staff just lovely. Add the amazing views and the sea breeze, and it’s perfect both day and night. Definitely one of those places you don’t want to miss.

Been here twice now while being in Crete. The owner is an absolute delight. Full of laughter and positivity. The homemade chips take me back to my younger days, they was so nice. Also had the pizzas which was very nice. Thank you

Family meal to start the service was 2nd to none ordered 2 pizzas that tasted amazing with a few drinks and some free shots of Raki which didn’t go down well with the Mrs and daughter so I had to do the rite thing and finish them all 🤣. All in all definitely recommend you visit this restaurant.

The atmosphere and service were the top level, thank you! Waiters are lovely people, so open-minded and kind! 😁 The view was great, we set just above the sea, it was really romantic and beautiful! Food was nice, however had some cons. The french fries were not crispy outside and soft inside, tasted like just a fried potato. Prawns were delicious, however salad was surprisingly bad, comparing to other cafes around Kato Gouves. Afterall, nice place for the atmosphere but quite decent food

Great place to eat with plenty of options, portion sizes were large, sufficient and reasonably priced. Very open seating area offering a chilled dining experience. Staff are always on stand by and prompt with service. Atmosphere was quite dead as we (family of 4) were 1 of 2 groups in the entire restaurant. Plenty of seating.

Really good, Very well cooked 250g Fillet steak at €31, Excellent Chateaubriand 500g @€70 enough for 2 but if your hungry just right. A very good steak menu with a variety of cuts. Large portions sizes for starters all priced around €8. And a surprise for me in a Greek restaurant one of the best blue cheese sauces I have ever had. Dessert on offer was only Ice cream or fresh fruit but 2 courses is enough to fill the biggest of appetites. Well worth a try.

Did order the steak, was really well cooked (medium rare), nice blue-cheese sauce. The fish is a great option as well. One night we've ordered the steak salad - really nice.

To be fair we did go in a bit late. The fajitas were very tasty could have had extra wraps..2 wasn't enough. The moussaka nice but a bit burnt. We had gin and tonics but it didn't taste like Gordon's all in all not bad.. but have had better.

We have been here three times this week for dinner. The service is so good and so is the food. It may look a bit odd when you walk up. Do not let this put you off it’s a hidden gem. The food is all cooked to order. We are staying in a 5star hotel but yet this food is better. You must give this a try. We had the mixed grill for 2 which was off the hook. The Ribeye steak is also 🔥

We arrived at the restaurant at 8.15pm. Our food arrived finally at 10.30pm after asking a number of times. By this point we were starving. When the food arrived it was good but not worth the wait. The staff were defensive when we asked where the food was saying “how long have you been here”. Also one of the staff was doing shots with every single table - not sure how strong the shots were, but surely this is unprofessional?! There are much better places to eat close by - i would avoid especially if you don’t have much time!

Amazing place. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, large portions for a good price, friendly service and a clean environment with a view of the sea. Plus they give free ice cream in the afternoon

Very nice place! The restaurant is a small family business and they make all the best to keep the guests satisfied. Food is fresh and tasty. Homemade wine is delicious. The service is excellent. I think this is the best place to eat when you’re staying in Gouves. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Stayed right next to the restaurant and returned multiple times. the food was the best food we’d had and we went to quite a few restaurants but nothing topped it. lovely staff and great views. Big portions that are great value for money. only wish we’d gone more when we stayed!!

We just walked around and came here. We always start with a garlic bread and it was the best we tasted in days. We were sitting near the road what was nice, not to mutch trafic and real greece music on the back. The owmer and his wife are realy nice and friendly

Great spot to be. The service is fantastic and the price total ok. Good, high quality food and big portions. I highly recommend the meze for two! It includes a variety of starters and typical greek dishes. The plate for two is enough for 3-4 people.

Lovely taverns, amazing staff George us one if a kind, love his array of hats , food tasty spent a lot of time here

What a fun place. Went in, ordered some cocktails, few minutes later and we're given them with sparklers and with George wishing us a happy birthday (it wasn't either of our birthdays). Towards the end of our drinks, the staff and some customers were dancing around the room with George throwing plates on the floor, which was nice. After our second drink, we ask for the bill and George asks "Do you fancy a couple shots of peach schnapps on the house?"

We loved this place. Visited 3 times in a week. We had something different each time and each meal was delicious. Lovely presentation and generous portions. Even when the place was full the staff were lovely. Very reasonable prices.

Outstanding family run Taverna. Extremely welcoming and not in the least pushy for customers. Superb homemade food. Atmosphere is warm and friendly. Have been here twice during my holiday.

Owners went above and beyond to provide a lovely welcoming service. It was a quieter as we went at the end of the season but it was amazing nonetheless. Me and my partner ordered the chicken gyros along with the saganaki (cheese block thing), spinach pocket things. All were very tasty and i would highly recommend this place for either a romantic date or a family meal! 10/10 overall! I would like to add that they also host the greek dancers which is also good fun for the kids, involves costume changes, good music and good laughs.

Great early evening meal, delicious homemade local food and drinks. Stunning “Mama’s” bread, Greek salad, meatballs and Kleftiko and really enjoyed the local Cretan Mountain beer. We received such a friendly and warm welcome from the owner and will definitely come back if we’re ever in Gouves again. Certainly recommend it for a visit.

We’ve never felt more welcome in a restaurant than here. Straight away we were greeted with friendliness. The food felt so homely and it was so delicious. It was also the most beautiful place we had been all week. We can’t wait to go back for their live music and dancing tomorrow evening. Do not miss this hidden gem. We have eaten here a couple times now - the service is absolutely superb. I mean, top class hospitality! It's the husbands favourite place we've eaten at this week. We've had some authentic Cretan dishes, as well as the usual boring choices, such as pizza. I think they are undercharging a little to be honest, as I definitely felt this was excellent value, whilst feeling taken care of. Well done. Outstanding offering.

We dined at Kyknos and we had a fabulous experience. We were a party of 10 and walked in without a booking. Yannis organized a table for us promptly. We ordered a variety of dishes. Everything came fast and it was delicious. The atmosphere is very laid back and the service was friendly and efficient. I will definitely go back!

Fabulous restaurant for lunch or dinner, authentic and homemade dishes and great local drinks. The service is amazing and super friendly and the location by the sea side is stunning. The fish Meze and the Greek Meze were both great. I would definitely recommend the 2 Friends Taverna for lunch or dinner and will be back if I’m ever in Gouves again.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited 2 Friends Taverna again — and it was even better this time! The staff recognized that we are Turkish and were very friendly and welcoming, which made us feel at home. They even thanked us personally, which was such a nice gesture. This time we tried the octopus, and it was absolutely delicious. As always, portions were generous and prices very reasonable. We really appreciate the warm hospitality and excellent food here. This is now one of our favorite tavernas in Crete — highly recommended!

BRILLIANT! Great and fresh food skilfully prepared and served in an authentic tavern by the sea. Nothing to add xcept that this was the best grilled octopuss i have ever eaten. And yes, raki is great too, homemade.

We've been here three times already and every visit was perfect. We mostly had the starters – almost the whole menu by now – and every single dish was super tasty. Great atmosphere, friendly staff.

This place is great. The people working there are the friendliest I've seen in Greece. They are super attentative. They helped to make a table available for us, the good was very tasty and got delivered pretty quickly, although there was no table left. Only drawback is the location right next to the street where all the big tourist busses are passing by pretty much every 10 minutes.

We can't say enough good things about Philipos Taverna! We dined here for both lunch and dinner during our stay, and every meal was an absolute delight. Small family restaurant. The waiter spoke very little English and therefore it was not possible to understand what we wanted. The potatoes were not salted at all and the potatoes were chewy.

Very tasty food specially griled mix. Our heart stole the owner of taverna is so kind and friendly men. He make family atmosphere in this place.

Unfortunately we didn’t find this fabulous family taverna until near the end of our holiday… but we still managed to eat there 3 times. The home prepared food is excellent and very good value but what really made it for us was the most lovely staff, particularly the smaller and unbelievably friendly, helpful waiter. Can not understand the positive reviews. Maybe we just had bad luck with the evening... Was the worst dinning experience we had in the Hollidays. Food was just not good. Fries were oily, cold and soft, bifteki was dry and hard without much taste. Chicken was okay, but not enough. We left with a little hunger - this was the only time in Greece ever. Service was friendly, but the bill took ages. Card payment did not work, maybe due to a powerless earlier.

Must-visit. It takes you an extra 10 minutes to walk here from the coast, but the food is also way better! One of the tastiest octopus we've ever had. We also took stuffed grape leaves, calamari, moussaka, tzatziki, lamb - everything was simple but so delicious. A family-run business, great service. There is also a nice garden and playground for the kids. Went here twice, wish we had time to try all the dishes.

Worst experience in Crete. The soup was made with either frozen veggies or literally from a pack - it's on a damn hill, so nothing to see, they could at least try with their food. It was honestly the worst thing we had in the one week we spent there. Take a look at that picture and tell me it's decent to eat. I would not feed that to my cats or dogs, really terrible. Oh, it was also full of mosquitos on the terrace - we didn't have that problem anywhere else.

We used the Sirroco sunbeds on the beach, which looked much comfier than most other sunbeds. Think it was 13 euros for 2 sunbeds on a Sunday. Ordered a club sandwich, which was actually the best club sandwich I've had. Make sure to ask for the snacks menu specifically, as we originally got the main menu and wouldn't have wanted a full main meal on the beach. Service was quick, toilets were clean. No loud music blaring. Although the waves were VERY tall at this part of the beach.

Had an amazing evening meal here with my partner, served by Catherine & Bill and they were absolutely exceptional. Portion sizes are massive so you’ll never go hungry. (The Strawberry Daiquiris are amazing) Thanks again for a wonderful evening!

The food was very delicious! I ordered a club sandwich for €12 which was a lot and tasteful. The service was also great. After our diner we got a chocolate cake on the house, this was very nice of them :)

Restaurant with a beautiful view of the sea, a menu with a wide selection, and very friendly staff. We chose the Greek salad and pizza. The Greek salad was delicious, but the pizza didn’t quite suit our tastes.

We stayed in Gouves for a week from 29th July - 6th August 2023. Although we ate at some wonderful restaurants that the resort offers, we ate here the most. Watching the sunset whilst having a meal was stunning. But it was the quality of food, excellent friendly service and value for money for a family of five that made this restaurant stand above the rest. Also the complementary shots were greatly appreciated. When we come back, eating at the Sirroco will be a priority.

This is by far my favourite place ever... From the amazing beach care personnel..specifically Andreas..the king of the beach.. to the great restaurant..food and drinks.. the very cool Shisha bar and the Superette. These guys know how to treat customers.. Of my 14 day stay in Gouves.. we spent 11 days in their wonderful care.. cos from day one.. they made us feel special and valued and gave us a chilled and relaxed vacation..as planned. Andreas was handling us on the beach with quick service, a jolly nature.. sense of humour and clean care. The drinks kept flowing.. the beach was clean and anything you wanted or needed was made possible.. Then we spent a few meals doing lunch and or dinner with them.. the guys who run the place are hands on in the dining area..Shisha bar and even in the kitchen..involved..cooking and interactive (a very warming characteristic of a good owner) The food is delicious and fresh. The Sirroco mule was our easy go to cocktail..tasty..fresh and chilled. I loved their grilled veggies and great lounge music. I would gladly do this location everyday all day..and they treated every customer with the same personal touch.. respect and excellence. They really made our vacation exactly as we had planned.. sun.. sea..sand..cocktails and good food. if you are ever in Gouves.. or want to go there..choose this area and do this beach entertainment facility..ooh and we noticed that they are building some accommodation units..if we ever go back to Crete.. that's where we are staying.

Wow. We are here for 11 nights and have spent every evening in The Yacht for dinner. We did the same last year as well as the food and service is beyond excellent. Wonderful atmosphere as well. Live music too which is really good. Back again next year for beautiful days exploring Crete and fantastic evenings at The Yacht

Popped in for some dinner and drinks with my wife to watch the sunset. I honestly haven't got enough good words to say about the food, and the owners here. We had starters and main, I didn't take pictures of the starters because it looked that good I just wanted to eat. We had Garlic Bread and Feta from the oven. Both was absolutely delicious. For the mains my wife had the ceasar salad and I had a special pizza. Both was absolutely lovely. I think I startled one of the waitress when I said the food was delicious in greek, to which I am incredibly grateful for and it must not be that bad to what I think it is. Thank you so much for a lovely evening, and I look forward to seeing you again in the future.

The drinks here are, in a word, supoib! I had the passion fruit daiquiri and it was an amazing first. The sound and the smell of the waves crashing 20 meters from your table just feels right. Spend at least one evening here.

Basilico Nuovo serves up really good meals at a reasonable price in a beautiful restaurant let down only by slow service. I will start by saying the food was amazing ! Really tasty. Seasoned perfectly and I would 100% recommend Basilico Nuovo. My only criticism is that the service was slow. Not from the kitchen but from the servers. We were a large table of 10. We booked in advance but the table was not ready for our arrival. The tables were put together when we arrived, which was fine. The restaurant was quite busy so we expected a wait for the meal as they can only fit 8 pizzas in the oven. This was no problem for us. When we finished our meal we waited for a very long time and the servers did not give us the offer of menu for dessert or after meal drinks so we asked for the bill to pay. They never brought us the bill after 20 minutes so we had to go inside to pay. This is not good and is the only part of the meal that lets down Basilico. You need to look after your guests better and we spend more money. I paid and left a generous tip only because the food was really excellent 👌. I asked that they let the kitchen know this from me. I really wanted tiramisu to finish but waited too long.

We stayed at the hotel and ate half of the time here. Food is delicious, especially their pizza and the desserts (best Panna Cotta we’ve ever eaten). They use organic ingredients most of which come from local farmers and producers. It’s a family owned restaurant und the people here are so nice and lovely. The restaurant itself is so pretty and comfy, we really liked it.

Never thought we’d come to Greece and find ourselves going to an Italian restaurant not once but twice! Extremely good Italian food. Neapolitan style wood oven pizzas - perfection. Pasta - wow. Tiramisu- another one please. House wine - soooo good. Don’t forget the cocktail bar behind the hotel. The mixologist, Alex, is very talented. Can also order from the restaurant. Go here. You won’t regret it. Reservation… we were lucky both times and were able to get a table immediately without a reservation BUT on both evenings, especially on the weekend I’d recommend booking beforehand. People turning up after us without a reservation had to wait.

Two nights at the best restaurant of the ones we visited based on their Tripadvisor and Google rating in Gournes and Kato Gouves. Everything was excellent! Pizze’s in particular are prepared in a huge Wood-fired oven which they are even thinking of upgrading for 2025 to reach higher temp for more closely resembling neapolitan-style🫣 As an enthusiastic baker myself who has spelt quite a bit of time delving into neapolitan pizze, i would say that the current pizze are already the best (almost) neapolitan pizze i’ve tasted. I dare not dream of the potential if the oven temperature increases 50-60 degrees. Simply spectacular! Their tenderloin, cannoli and tiramisu is also very very good! Pizze’s in the pictures are inferno, calabrese and proscuitto e rucola

Basilico Nuovo completely blew me away. The vibe is modern but cozy, the staff are super friendly, and the food is just incredible. The pizza is probably the best I’ve had in Crete crispy, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The pasta and desserts were just as amazing (don’t skip the tiramisu!). You can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients. Can’t wait to come back!

Basilico Nuovo is fantastic. The atmosphere is modern yet cozy, and the staff are warm and welcoming. The pizza is easily the best I’ve had in Crete crispy, flavorful, and made with care. The pasta was delicious, and the tiramisu was the perfect ending. Fresh, high-quality ingredients in every dish. I can’t wait to return!

I could have eaten here everyday. A great friendly place. The food was authentic and so tasty. A relaxed atmosphere and staff really attentive but not in your face which was great. Ate here with 2 teenagers and we all know how fussy they can be, but they loved the place and the food. 10/10

We returned back yesterday from our stay in Gouves. We had eaten here 5 times in the past week, the food was amazing and staff so friendly.we were even invited to sit and wait while waiting for our bus to the airport. The first time I had tried Moussaka and it wasn’t the last. I Loved it! I Highly recommend this restaurant .

The Lamb Chops were the Best we've ever eaten—perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. 🤩Portions were generous, and every dish was prepared with care and authenticity. The desserts were just as impressive—sweet, fresh, and a perfect way to end the meal. But what really made the night special was the amazing family running the place. Jannis and his wife Eva, along with their daughters and sons-in-law, made us feel like part of the family. Their warmth and hospitality truly stood out.🥰 We can’t recommend Taverna Knossos enough. The food didn't impress, some too salty, some not salty enough, it was only full on days when local live music was playing, Sundays and Wednesdays, otherwise half empty, and even then it took a long time to take the plates away. You could eat better elsewhere in town.

We was very disappointed by this place since we read some reviews before our visit. The restaurant environment is very cosy and green. The bread we got was stale. We ordered Briam that came out on a flat plate and therefore was cold after a few minutes. The few potatoes was undercooked and the greens was very tasteless. The pastitsio made our Swedish Karins lasagna look like a dream. In Sweden we have better microwave food than this. Although this place is perfect if you want to eat sausage and fries while a bunch of kids running around. Not worth the money

Lovely restaurant with a beautiful outside. Plenty of waiters, went on a Sunday so had great Greek entertainment whilst we ate. Free bread and butter as a nice touch before the meal, but it was stale which let it down. Souvlaki was tasty but not the best one I’ve had in the area.

Nice, pretty big restaurant with many tables. We had very tasty food and excellent service. I love the lemon pork a lot as I never experienced this combination before. The mussles were good but more than 10 were closed which you are not supposed to eat after cooking and this is usually then not a good sign. Also given the amount of the rather small plate that was a little disappointing. The restaurant was rather close to our accommodation and we passed by it often - Check the opening times because they had a sign out very often that it was closed today.

Wow ! Iraklis Tavern was simply outstanding ! We were a large group of 10. We did not pre book and they were able to accommodate us without issue on the terrace. Lovely staff (shout out to Helen 👏) that looked after us very well. Quick and efficient service. Not long wait for the food to arrive. Love that you can see into the kitchen. I have had Moussaka in many Greek Isles and this was by far the very best I have had yet. Really fantastic ❤️‍🔥 I could not recommend Iraklis Taverna enough. We stayed at the Artemis Apartments and walked to Iraklis and back approximately 6.5 Kilometres round trip. Well worth the trip 👏

Very friendly welcome and caring hospitality. Good, simple food delivered in professional yet homely flair. We also discovered that this place also feeds guests using its rooms which are exclusively for people travelling alone having been left to journey solo due to circumstances outside their control. Great ambience too.

Got some Dakos, Dolmades and beetroot salad with a fresh orange juice. They gave me some fruit for free at the end, though the other places I've been to, gave me liker or such. And the other tables got them too. Guess I didn't run up a big enough bill. The lady speaks fluent British English and the server is also very kind. Overall good food and great service. It's also a pleasant space to sit in.

Good prices, and good food but nothing very very special other then a very very good fresh fish from the sea, and great grilled veggies. Service is very very nice but need to remains sometimes about orders or once the bill was a bit mixed up never the less they realised before us and settled everything good. So if you search for chilled place with good food and prices and great view then this is the place.

The food was really good, fresh and well seasoned. The view is wonderful, the way the weaves break right next to your table is a nice experience, no wonder the place is always full during the evenings. That being said, the food is a bit pricey, compared to other locations, but you definitely pay for the view. The staff is lovely, our server was very friendly and smilling.

The view from the restaurant was pretty, but that’s where it ends. The food was horrible. We’ve ordered vegetarian moussaka and greek pizza. Pizza was 80% of cheese and it tasted like vomit. Moussaka was edible but not anywhere good. The prices were out of space for that quality of food. If you look around you, there are many places where you can eat much better. Loss of money and loss of possibility to eat good greek food.

We didn't like it, the fries were dry, as was the meat in the gyros, and we also found a bone in the chicken meat although they were pieces in the gyros dish. The price is overpriced, the waiters did not react to our complaints at all, because I pointed out these mistakes and if they had offered us some alternative, my review would not have been there. They did not even apologize, we paid 50 euros for 3 dishes and 2 cocktails, in other restaurants it is cheaper and much tastier!

We popped in because of the deal on cocktails. On looking at the menu decided on some snacks. It was the happiest our children had been for dinner all holiday. The food was tasty and seemed to be freshly prepared. The atmosphere was relaxing and friendly. We are now going back tomorrow night for the live music. Really nice restaurant and bar. We came as a large group of 10 and were easily accommodated. Tables were pushed together in close proximity to a ceiling fan for a cooling breeze. Service was provided quickly and efficiently by very friendly staff. They have no problem splitting your bill using different payment methods. Their menu has many options including vegetarian options. We did not have to wait too long for food to arrive and the quality was excellent. I had the hanging Pork Souvlaki and would highly recommend.

Had a few cocktails here the other night and loved the atmosphere so knew we needed to check out the restaurant part. It did not disappoint! Best meal we’ve eaten since being in Kato Gouves. Everything was so tasty and flavoursome. The waiters were very attentive and friendly. You also got a lovely free dessert and shots! Definitely recommend.

We had an absolute pleasure dining at this restaurant – every moment was a joy, from the food to the atmosphere to the service. What a wonderful place. We came as a family of four for lunch, with one of our children having a severe, life-threatening allergy. The staff handled it with meticulous care and professionalism – checking every ingredient, making thoughtful adjustments, and ensuring we felt completely safe and at ease. Our souvlaki meal was finger-licking delicious, beautifully presented in a traditional style. The restaurant also has a small play area, which kept our boys happily entertained while we waited for the food – giving us a few extra minutes to relax and enjoy. It’s clear they’ve thought of everything when it comes to the customer experience. Perfect for families, and without a doubt, we’ll be back again.

Me and my partner just got back from a week in Crete and in that week we visited Dreams 4 times! My partner got the seafood salad and she said it was 'the best salad she has ever eaten'. the staff there are so friendly, making you feel welcome and valued every time. the cocktails were tasty and Shisha was incredible value for money (half of what we pay in the UK). the vibes here were so good, with a great set up of tables and comfy seats, relaxing and brilliant music every day and like i said before, super friendly staff. even the cats who hang around the place emit the same good vibes!

The place is small, but there is also a roof garden. The staff is brilliant and sincere! And the FOOD is to die for. The Souvlaki is without a doubt the best we have ever eaten, the meat is tender and full of flavour. We also tried Nachos with chicken- also delicious.

A perfect taverna to stop and cool down with a refreshing beer (or 2) with a friendly service.

Bit of a hit and miss, place looks right up my alley, love the decor and music. Very clean and friendly staff. I think due to the time of year (late June) it was just the two of us at 11ish. We had 2 beers and some snacks and left, the owner did say it gets busier next month, looks nice and price's were reasonable.

by far the best bar we visited in gouves. great music, drinks and service. thanos (the owner) is really welcoming and attentive. all the drinks and food were really good and fairly priced. the mythos beer was really good and served in a cold glass with an affordable price. we had a lot of fun going there and on Wednesdays there is karaoke which is really fun for the whole family as everybody can sing and dance. there is also a pool table which was a lot of fun. would definitely recommend it for everyone in gouves and we are all looking forward to coming again next year.

Bit of a weird one to write a review on. Food was hit and miss across the range, some items had flavour whilst others lacked. Main issue of the food was that the description of food, I.e. dips should notify of the name of each dip, and when designating the listing as “dips” you would expect there to be more than just two. This was for the bread option / starter. I did ask for a follow up of another dip / spread however this took over 15 mins to get the attention of someone and then the items still did not come. This then leads to the service, either there’s not enough staff to serve each table or they are so forgetful they can’t manage what would be a basic task, I see plenty of other locations for food handling a higher demand of custom yet still performing faultlessly throughout the serving evening, so this in a way answers the question itself. Following from the what seemed like forever wait the mains eventually come out, undercooked, no presentation and barely any meat anywhere, as you can see from the tagged picture there is next to no meat on the lamb chop and the other pork items was full of gristle meaning next to nothing on each cut was eatable. It’s a shame as a restaurant with the location it has next to the sea can offer so much however the service and food portions are not to be commended. Overpriced for what you get and the lack of check ins from staff meant any chance of meal rectification couldn’t be met. Saying it’s terrible is a very far stretch, however a bad McDonald’s would run rings around this meal.

Great food, great atmosphere, great service. The typical Cretan hospitality. Chef is fantastic and very attentive to special needs. I have been there 2 times this year and these are my favorites about the place. Their menu is very rich and is filled with dishes made out of local fresh and delicious ingredients that make a huge impact upon the taste and texture. Service is very friendly, serves are very approachable always with a big smile. The atmosphere is to the point. Right on the seaside or inside, there are many tables to choose. The music is very good. Not too loud, so you can enjoy your conversation with your friends. Chef, she is AMAZING! Very accommodating and attentive to special needs. The cocktail menu is great. Wine selection has lots of options to choose. A must visit if you’re in Herakleon, Gouves or surrounding areas.

Best food that I had on the island! Amazing lamb knuckle, great Greek traditional dishes, even the tomatosoup was super tasty! Every time we went, we got a free desert! Such sweet people that work there. We kept coming back here!

Sailing is a wonderful taverna with a warm atmosphere and truly delicious food. Everything is fresh and full of flavor, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. A perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal by the sea. Highly recommended!

We came here a couple of times for drinks, we also used the sun Loungers on the beach and had lunch here. The food was really lovely, very generous portions, with stunning views. Sun Loungers are €15 euros for 2 and a parasol, we needed an extra Lounger which was €5 more, they bring a bottle of water in ice bucket over to your Loungers and you can order food and drink to your Loungers also. We really enjoyed it.

The best beach bar we went to! Spending a week recently in Crete, we found this bar right on our hotels doorstep. With the best views of the sunset, the yummiest food and the most delicious cocktails (especially the frozen pornstar martini!) we easily spent a whole day here, making the most of easy access to the beach and the brilliant atmosphere. We came back for cocktails another evening and were welcomed back like old friends, it really was lovely, the bar staff made such an effort to speak to us and to make sure we had everything we needed, everyone was so generous and helpful. If we ever return to Crete we will definitely come back here, it was one of the best days of our holiday! Thank you Islas bar!

This time we rented out a bed on the beach for €25 and in my opinion, worth every penny. Its like your own private beach. The staff here are all lovely and can't do enough for you. I will most likely make it a 3rd time before my holiday comes to an end. I normally go for a greek cuisine, but them homemade chicken nuggets, I can't get enough of them!

We very much enjoyed our evening at Isla. A warm welcome, beautiful setting on the quey side, excellent service and wonderful food. We had the set menu which I would recommend if you are unfamiliar with Greek dishes which gives you a great selection to try & plenty to eat. The whole staff were super helpful with my daughters allergy. Definitely worth a visit. Oh and the cocktails were outstanding.

The food is okay, served as tapas. The view is amazing and really the reason to come here. I think it’s a better place to enjoy a drink and the scenery than to have a full meal. Overall it was a nice experience.

By far and away one of the best places to eat in Kato gouves. Pizzas cooked fresh in a proper pizza oven and the pasta was so fresh and tasty. Staff are brilliant and it's so cheap. Me and the girlfriend had a couple of drinks each a starter and main for only 19 euro I had to check as thought we had been undercharged. We hadn't plus we got a complimentary desert and carafe of Raki. The small pizzas are huge and if you can't eat it all will box it for takeaway you will not be disappointed .

First time visiting this taverna, and what a great experience it was. We found out about the place online and decided to give it a try, and we're glad we did. All of the food we had was great. Beautifully cooked and generous portions from start to finish, and free raki to finish the night. The service was amazing. It seems to be a very close knit family run taverna, where you'll be treated exactly like that, a member of the family. Some of the most genuine, friendly service I've ever experienced. Wow. Seriously good restaurant. We had meatballs and zucchini slices to start. They were stunning. The tempura on the zucchini was sublime. I had the moussaka for a main. Utterly delicious. Perfectly seasoned. Really... perfection. My other half had lamb chops, also super tasty and perfectly cooked. Couldn't fit pudding in unfortunately, so we will be back! If you're new to Greek cuisine, let me just advise that portions are generous. We ate the bread... lovely but filling! The best food we have had on the island in a week of eating out. The atmosphere is lovely, very chilled, very friendly. A couple of cute little cats around, a dog popped in and was gently shooed out. Our waiter was really lovely and spoke good English and we met both of the chefs / owners, who were chatty and very present. Really loved the overall vibe. Useful to note that there is parking behind the restaurant. Price was very, very reasonable. I was surprised that we weren't paying more. Highly recommend this place. Loved it. Lovely restaurant/ taverna, very reasonably priced, very tasty traditional food cooked by the owners..we had fresh fish which was Dorade gilt head sea bream. & Shrimp saganaki, see photos. We will definitely be visiting again.

A really superb meal. Genuine, authentic food executed with a light touch by talented chefs. Particular highlights were the courgette slices, meatballs in a light tomato sauce, and moussaka. Great welcome and service. Really enjoyable and friendly place and we're going back again.

A definite plus, starting with the service and ending with the most important point, the food:great appetizers, very good shrimps saganaki and the queen of the evening: octopus. This was our third attempt in Crete and definitely the best! A wonderful evening and a wonderful cake and fantastic raki at the end.

It was okay, food was a okay price and iz tasted average, and we got free fruits at the end. We were at the time the only guest and the location its a little bit in the middle of nowhere.

Excellent Greek cuisine, good portions, friendly personnel and a nice playground for kids to exhaust themselves before or after the meal. I really enjoyed the goat meat with French fries, the baked sheep cheese and the coffee.

Visited yesterday with wife and two children (3 and half year old). Big place to play with 2 bouncy castles. Staff was very friendly and the food was good! We got bread before and fruits afterwards. Highly recommend with or without kids.

TLDR- great food, great wine, bouncy castles, mobility-impaired friendly! Came for a wedding, loved it, and immediately brought the rest of the family to dinner here the next night. The food is amazing, I recommend the lamb and pork from the oven. The lamb was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The porc was so tender it could be cut with a straw!The kids play area works really well with my daughter and is certainly fine for any toddler on up. There is a toddler-specific bouncy castle and a child bouncy castle. This means we can watch the kids while eating in peace. As an added bonus, the changing table was accessible by men and not hidden away in the women’s WC like so many in Greece. The house wine (white) was delicious, crisp and dry. If you got this far, did you pick up on the two bouncy castles? What are you waiting for? Go eat at Taverna Krhtes!

We went towards the end of the day at the extra season and there weren't many people, but they still quickly mobilized and served us without issue. As most restaurants on Crete, the food is really good and plentiful.

I've dined in Krites at different occasions. The quality of the food and service is consistently very good. It's ideal for families and adults alike. Bravo!

Amazing little Taverna and what a welcome. We had this suggested to us and it did not disappoint. Lovley barbecued food and starters. Manos was very welcoming and friendly and set the atmosphere for the evening. We had such a good time and would recommend to visit. Food menu is simple but does not disappoint and more than makes up for it in taste. Thank You Manos. Would love to go back. Mixed grill was delicious and well priced.

You will need a car to get here from most places but it's beautiful, the family that runs it is very friendly and gracious. The food is delicious and fairly priced. Definitely a 'Hidden treausre' as the name suggests. I would highly recommend supporting this restaurant.

Roadside restaurant which is unsurprisingly popular due to its delicious food! We tried lamb chops and it was one of the best we had in Europe! You do need to wait 15-20 mins to get a table though in busy times

Amazing family business opened in 1993. The food was amazing! On Sundays they have special dishes! Always ask for the home dishes you will be surprised! Also they grow their own vegetables! Must visit!

A great roadside tavern! Several locals here (we were the only "tourists" in at the time). Kid goat strew was on offer as 'dish of the day', along with stuffed vine leaves & zucchini flowers as a veggie option. The stew was excellent. As a roadside tavern, there are traffic noises sometimes, but it's not distracting. Very pleasant owners, happy to explain and help our selections. Good value too.

The food was absolutely excellent! And the prices are great! We went with a group of 19 people. We sat under their huge carob tree that was exquist (and a couple of 100 years old for sure!). The tables were set up when we arrived and everything we ordered came quickly. All food was fresh and full plated. The atmosphere was beautiful with lights and plants and greenery. It was just a perfect night. They Taverna treated us huge plates of fruit at the end including yellow watermelon that was so fun! Would definitely come again and bring people to impress!

This spot is near my home, so I visit it occasionally. We enjoy going there during the day, when you can see the sea and Dia Island from the terrace. The prices are good, and the staff is friendly. The only downside is that the wait can be long, especially for souvlaki, as they prepare it fresh on the spot.

After visiting the aquarium we found this restaurant a little off the beaten path. There were a handful of locals eating there which was a good sign. The 5 of us ordered a pizza, veggie burger, and kebabs. All of the food was great, especially the pizza!

"Eat where to locals are eating" and the locals are eating at Pita Pita. There is no fancy food, only the local staff, gyros, souvlaki, steak, but really tasty and in different presentations. No seafood, or soups or fish, just lamb, pork, beef and chicken. Good salad as well, overall, if you want a good tasty food, greek style, this is the place. And take your time when choosing, you might miss the specialities in the menu.

Nice Restaurant on the side of the road. Shrimp tasted fresh, however sauce was kind of unseasoned and bitter(maybe because of the ouzo?). The waiter was very nice and really made it a nice evening! Edit: Also went here for breakfast. Would recommend the Greek sandwich

To be honest, I don’t even know where to begin. Today we were left very disappointed. Let me start with the good: the girl on the phone and the courier were incredibly polite and friendly. The order was delivered quickly - thank you very much for that. Unfortunately, the dishes themselves did not live up to expectations. There were no issues with freshness - everything was quite fresh. However, the quality left much to be desired. The Caesar salad was about 60% tomatoes, whereas the base should be green lettuce. I’m not a big fan of tomatoes and didn’t expect there to be so many of them. In addition, I found a sharp bone in the fried cheese in batter. I have no idea how it could have ended up there, but the fact remains. It was unpleasant and completely ruined the impression of the entire order. I really didn’t want to write a negative review, but unfortunately, this experience turned out to be too disappointing.

EVADE AT ALL COSTS! ΜΕΙΝΕ ΜΑΚΡΙΑ! The quality of the food is atrocious and tasteless! Got their signature pizza with rotten tomates and no taste at all, due to the very poor quality of ingridients and badly handled. Service kind but disappeared after serving us. Owners sitting playing with their mobile phones without even asking about our experience with the place empty... no wonder though. If you're looking for decent food, evade at all costs. "Memories pizza" : a memory I want to forget ASAP.

Friendly staff, good food selection and a clean and relaxed atmosphere. They also have sunbeds right in front on the beach.

They have private sand beach where you can find beach sets (sunbeds, umbrella and table) what is free with any order. Personnel whas super kind mainly the man who serves the beach part. We had been there more than 5times during our stay and everything was always perfect.. the food, drinks and attitude. I can really say everyone to come.

This was a great spot to have dinner. Large portions for an affordable price. I love how the Greek cook their chicken! Most of the seating is outdoor at a corner intersection in a small town, which offers an excellent place to watch the locals. The service was a little slow, but I've started to learn thats 'normal'.

Everything we tasted was phenomenal! The smashed patties were cooked to perfection and were so juicy in that soft brioche bun! The service was exceptional, extremely polite and welcoming to my girlfriend and our baby! Would definitely recommend!

Amazing place worth the visit from London! We came all the way from London to Crete and this spot did not disappoint. The place is incredible, the food is even better – seriously, the chicken wings were my favourite, packed with so much flavour. The staff are super friendly and helpful, always happy to recommend things. You can tell it’s a local gem because people from the area come by regularly too. Yes, okay, let's make the joke: this restaurant makes you smile indeed... This complementary restaurant is related to the Gouves Water Park resort but also opened to all public. Located at the Beach of Gouves giving you a perfect view at the sea and the sun going down in the sea. About the drinks and food: every day is happy hour day, get 2 drinks for the price of 1. In contradiction, the drinks are a little overpriced to compensate I think. The food is good, especially when you escape a night from your all inclusive buffets to this restaurant. The waiters are awesome and really patient with their customers and children. If you give them some love back, you will be rewarded with free Raki when leaving the restaurant. Every Thursday (in the summerseason) they have special Greek night with traditional dancers and Greek style BBQ. The restaurant is children friendly having some playgrounds, pool, and air plays. Also they have big screens for sports etc The big negative point remains the toilets, they don't seem to meet the western European standards. Something for the greek to work on.

A group of 10 of us ate here and every single person in the group left this restaurant with a smile and a full stomach. The service was super speedy! Drinks were extra delicious! Food was lovely! We came on a night when they had the traditional Greek dancing and we all got to join in and it was so much fun. Our waiter Phillip was amazing! Super friendly and became part of the group with his jokes and brilliant stories! Recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an amazing meal out!

An unexpected location for a full-service coffee shop, featuring fully competent English speaking barista. Coffee is as good as any in Greece (which generally is not as intense as I would like,) and the espresso drinks are well made. Down-to-earth atmosphere, relaxing clientele. If you are in this part of Crete Island, you know there is a coffee stop you can make!

We were getting there by mistake, stopped by just because it was so sweet - and fell in deep love. Good was just great, no joke. The place is super nice and feels really good - but then Irgina (dear, I know I must have spelled it wrong, but at least I can speak it) on top. Her service, personality - we loved it. Even though our appartment was not close at all - we even came back. The grilled meat! Wow. Lamb? Amazing. The bread? Even the bread was fantastic. Everything was great. Really. Definitely worth a visit to this taverna/cafe. Great selection of drinks & a relaxed friendly welcome from Ergina who served us. Town is about 2miles from the beach, so get your walking shoes on (40mins) or taxi. (5mins)

Just spent a couple of chilled out hours here. Beautiful little cafe. Very authentic and delicious food on offer. Some of the meze offerings were old school and super delicious. Host was delightfully charming. Incredibly keen prices. We had Retsina and meze. Great value for money. Locals eat here therefore you know it’s good. Definitely be back a few times before we go home !

I would generally say this is gem hidden in plain sight. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a high end feel but definitely affordable prices for fantastic food. Enjoyed starters and mains and were treated to a local desert, finishing with the traditional raki (😂). Don't walk by as this restaurant will not disappoint with the quality of food. Will be back again before or holiday ends!

Had the most wonderful dinner at Saita Restaurant. Irena was so lovely and welcoming. We had arancini and dakos to start. Food was so fresh. The creamy avocado on the dakos is a lovely touch. The seafood linguine is the best I have had over our last 10 days in Crete.So tasty and fresh. My partner had the grilled chicken fillet with rice and fresh veg. Very enjoyable. We indulged in a carafe of Rose and finished off with a lovely mousse dessert and raki. Cannot recommend this lovely spot highly enough. Take yourselves away from the touristy tavernas of Katos Gouves and try excellent Cretan foods in this friendly atmosphere.

Very cool new spot in lovely Kato Gouves! Different food from your typical taverna, a little bit more upscale food but nevertheless delicious. The meet was super soft and cooked to perfection. Very friendly service also.
