Ristorante "La Bettola di Geppetto" is a charming dining spot housed in a renovated old stone building, featuring rustic-style dining rooms. It's known for offering simple and delicious meals that won't weigh heavily on your stomach or wallet. The menu includes delectable options such as crostini, cured meats, cheeses, lentil soup, ravioli with sheep's ricotta and saffron butter, arrosticini, and grilled lamb.
Delicious food! The antipasti for two were a great choice with a varied selection of salami and cheese. Pasta with truffle and sheep meat and the ravioli with ricotta in the freshest tomato sauce are a must! Also, a nice selection of beers and pleasant service.
Darina B — Google review
The pastas were some of the best simple pasta we’ve ever tasted in Italy. The house special guanciale and saffron pasta and the white amatriciana are not to be missed! House res wine was also very nice. Try to reserve a table, even in September, as we saw many people turned away!
S D — Google review
Amazing date with splendid food! Am proud to have tried traditional Italian cuisine from this place! Waitress knew English and also helped us choose. Cannot recommend enough!
Martha S — Google review
Eccellent quality, low prices and good service. The Amatriciana Bianca with guanciale and truffle was to die for! La Bettola di Geppetto is a picturesque restaurant, located inside an old stone house, which is also a great place to spend some time away from the heat of a local summer day. Santo Stefano di Sessanio is one of my favourite mountain villages in Abruzzo and I'll make sure to come back to La Bettola di Geppetto again in the future. I would recommend reserving a table as it is a small restaurant and it can get quite busy during high season.
Stefano C — Google review
World's best Panna Cotta! During our stay in Santo Stefano we tested almost every restaurant in town but La Bettola di Geppetto is by far the best one! We loved our dinners there! You can book a table online, the waiters are very friendly and speak excellent English. The menue is creative and the food is absolutely delicious. We especially loved the spinach in the veggy anti pasti dish, the safron pasta and the pistacchio panna cotta. Please try their desserts! They're so good. Also, the ambiance in the evening is super romantic with a breathtaking view over the mountains and candle lanterns all over the outside area. So gorgeous! Thank you so much for two wonderful evenings, La Bettola di Geppetto. 🙂

An amazing little place tucked away in the stunning village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio. We booked in as a family of four with two children aged 12 and 14. It was a small, quaint and rustic venue which felt traditional and homely. The menu was nice and simple which is nearly always a good sign! There were some good vegetarian options and some local specialities. We had the vegetarian starter which was very good indeed - we also had the pasta with bacon which was one of the nicest pasta dishes I have eaten, and the lentil soup which was hearty and flavoursome. The vegetarian ravioli was a hit too. The kids ate all of their food, and the adults thoroughly enjoyed theirs too. I should also mention the lovely local IPA I was recommended, which topped it all off nicely. Finally, the waiting staff were polite and full of smile and happy to explain the different menu options in English, which was very much appreciated as our Italian is not great! Top marks for a very memorable meal. It was very special indeed!
Charlie K — Google review
Cozy place, perfect for a winter evening, friendly and polite staff. The food is very simple, something that anyone could prepare at home. I saw that prices increased in the last years, probably due to the improved tourism. At the current level the ratio quality/price does not fit what you eat, a bit overpriced. Positive note, the arrosticini, very good. Please, do not get to the point of being a "taverna" with "restaurant" prices!
M Z — Google review
Honest, simple and very fairly priced cooking. Feels like you are in an Italian living room eating with extended family. We enjoyed the ricotta ravioli with tomato sauce, spaghetti with bacon and cream truffle sauce, and local lamb. Nice salad on the side too. Better than other local restaurants charging 2x the price! Not 5 stars because it’s not creative, or using the best ingredients - just simple and effective.

La Locanda sul Lago is a charming B&B located in a renovated barn with a picturesque view of the lake. The cozy, family-run restaurant offers regional cuisine made from carefully selected ingredients, including delicious meat dishes and tempting vegetarian options like goat and sheep's milk ricotta ravioli or crepes with porcini mushrooms. Guests can enjoy fast and friendly service in an ideal setting to unwind after a day of trekking.
This review is for the restaurant: impeccable and kind service, and the spaghettone was amazing. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area, and the hours are good as well compared to others nearby!

The location is fantastic.. And also the food quality. Samuele, one of the guys there, is incredible helpful for anything you needs. Isn't cheap but is very nice place..I suggested to go and try Saffron&Ricotta Fettuccini. And the dessert with Sheep's Ricotta and Saffron 👍🤩🥂

Very nice restaurant! Great service, excellent food. We ate here twice and it was amazing!!! Very much recommend 💖
Reut D — Google review
This review is just for the restaurant and not for the b&b. We had dinner here and they were told that one of us was vegetarian. They accommodated this very well including the chef's complimentary starter. Service was very good and food was also decent. Gnocchi was not as good but they made it was vegetarian sauce instead of ragu. Their tiramisu was very nice and so was the tea. All in all worth a visit for dinner if your are in sextantio area.
Nidhi S — Google review
We called in for a beer and to use the WiFi, so we could look for a place to stay. We stayed for dinner, bed and breakfast. Great hospitality, fantastic cooking from a passionate chef, good english spoken to help us understand the regional menu. The room was fantastic and the breakfast really good.
John T — Google review
I loved this B&B, it was perfect! My family and I got two rooms here. They were spacious, clean, and the shower actually closed and didn't leak water everywhere (rare in Europe). It's surrounded by the mountains and was beautiful. The breakfast was delicious. We needed to check out before breakfast started on our last day so they put it out 30 minutes earlier than usual-much appreciated! We ate at the hotel restaurant on our last night and it was busy, even on a Monday night. The food there was delicious too. I got the sheep stew which is a departure from my normal cuisine but I wanted to try something different and I'm glad I did-it was delicious. The price at the hotel was very affordable. Next time I come to Abruzzo I will definitely be staying here.

Not much else to say that hasn't been said already. Just an absolutely perfect dining experience with the most welcoming couple in a unique setting. I've never experienced anything like it and probably won't ever again. Grazie Andrea! Such a sweet man who warms your heart with not only his food but also his demeanor and conversation!
Matteo P — Google review
Absolutely delicious! We really enjoyed the menu a lot! Not too much cheese which was also great for us vegans. Andrea is a very friendly and English speaking host. His wife Barbara is a great Chef. Very special courses from local products.
Stefanie — Google review
It's a hidden gem in the center of one of the most unbelievable little towns you can imagine, Sessanio. A gastronomic journey, or should I say a "passeggiata" through the delicious fresh homemade food and veggies prepared directly by the host and his wife, 2 adorable people. Creativity, authenticity, and flavor for a long vegetarian dinner in a warm, romantic room with just 4 tables. The atmosphere is quiet, Andrea will magically introduce every dish with a soft, calm voice, but the food speaks loudly about the ability of the chef Barbara. Incredible experience. Book in advance. Fixed price and menu.
Massimo A — Google review
WOW! What a vegeterian food journey! Thank you Andrea e Barbara not only for the great and various dishes you prepared and presented with love. It was like being at home ❤️ all products used are fresh and from the area! Such an insoiring couple for this lovely vegeterian restaurant.
Fabio P — Google review
Most magical meal in Abruzzo! Andrea and Barbara are the kindest, most wonderful people you will meet if you’re lucky enough to dine in their restaurant!
Cindhura R — Google review
Amazing find! We stumbled in exactly at the right time for lunch by serendipity. The place is very small with only four tables, so I recommend to book in advance if you do not want to rely on luck. The owner, Andrea, is a bit crazy in the best possible way. He is so in love with the area, its food - and his wife who is an excellent cook. For every of the about ten courses of the set vegetarian menu he explained (in Italian and English) where the ingredients came from and what makes them special. Often, he harvested fruits and herbs himself, or knows the farmers very well. The food was very good and full of different flavours, due to spices, herbs and good ingredients. I am not a vegetarian, but I didn't miss anything. Finally, the price of 39€ for so many dishes, including a good local wine, and a true private dining experience is more than fair. Good luck with your restaurant, Andrea & Barbara, I hope to come back one day!
Miss S — Google review
A very special dining experience. Andrea and Barbara are clearly very passionate about sharing their food, and they can tell you exactly where almost all of ingredients come from. The food was delicious, service and atmosphere were excellent and it was very reasonably priced for all of the amazing food and wine you get. The restaurant is small so you should call ahead for reservations. Thanks Andrea and Barbara for a memorable evening!

"Il Ristoro degli Elfi" is a charming family-run restaurant located in the village of fairytales. It offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere where visitors can enjoy a warm homemade meal. The menu features authentic Abruzzese dishes made from high-quality ingredients, including arrosticini, cream of lentils, and spaghetti alla chitarra with mushrooms and truffle when in season.
Delicious dinner matches the cozy atmosphere. The lentil soup warmed us, the pasta with sausage was incredible, as was the pork steak. This restaurant is the perfect representation of a loving Italian hug. P.S. the black fluffy cat loves pork fat...
Kayla S — Google review
Suggestive place, service was a bit slow and we expected a bit more from the food. Pappardelle ai funghi were flavorless, same as lentils soup. The dessert (tart with marmalade: crostata) instead were very delicious.
Stefania — Google review
Amazing food and atmosphere! The host was really nice and friendly! If you are around, I highly recommend this place!
Drone S — Google review
This restaurant serves authentic Abruzzese food made from high-quality ingredients. A humble and gentile man does the cooking and the serving. The tomatoes are deep red and sweet. The basil is freshly picked and aromatic. The salumi is homemade and intense. The cheese is fresh and creamy. The pork was tender and moist and properly served with salad to cut the fat. You will leave satisfied and shocked at the reasonable price. Don’t miss this diamond in the rough of Santo Stefano di Sessanio.

Locanda Sotto Gli Archi - Albergo Sextantio is a charming restaurant located in a historic setting with wooden furniture, candlelight, and classical music creating a romantically rustic atmosphere. The handmade plates and cups add to the authentic feel of the place. The menu features hyper-local dishes that aim to recreate ancient regional flavors with finesse. The stone arches and imposing stone fireplace inside contribute to the beautiful atmosphere of this establishment.
Amazing food made with ingredients from the Abruzzo region which the Locanda Sotto Gli Archi takes pride in using. The staff are all very friendly and work hard to ensure the restaurant has great food for breakfast lunch and dinner along with good hours. Each dish we tried was so unique and flavorful! This is a special part of staying at the Sextantio Albergo Diffuso in Santo Steffano di Sessanio.

We had a lovely meal here during our stay in Sextano. Great to know that it is all locally produced. Good pasta dishes and wine paired well with it.
Jon F — Google review
A very un-inspired meal here. The setting is undeniably amazing, and the service was okay. It took over 25 minutes to get our bottle of wine out that we ordered.. The food itself wasn't even mediocre, it was almost bad. The Sheep ragu was off putting and the carrot raviolo was very uninspiring. The cost is high, especially when compared to the region. It seems interesting that they make your reserve this table, for this level of food quality. A let down to say the least. Also, the restaurant itself is fairly hard to find in the village, front door has no label or logo; so it feels a bit like you're pushing open someone's front door when entering restaurant. Save your time and money and eat elsewhere

It was just okay. The setting is beautiful but the food, unfortunately, is mediocre. Essentially, you're paying for the atmosphere. The restaurant does have a lovely interior with a mix of the modern and rustic medieval, with heavy wooden beams and tables and whitewashed stone. The service was prompt and the waitress was very cordial. But the food was disappointing, especially considering the price, which is very expensive for this part of Italy. For just a primo, contorno and a glass of wine, I paid €30. The pasta I had was cooked reasonably well but it was a bit oversalted and one note, and I was bored after a few bites. The side dish of "wild grass" was bitter and underseasoned. The salad was just lettuce with a single sliced plum. Even the bread wasn't great, overly dry. Maybe I simply got unlucky with my choices and the atmosphere is very beautiful, but overall I was disappointed.
Thorn M — Google review
Average food. Planned a special dinner that was supposed to be in private beautiful setting, with private waiter and some authentic local cuisine. First they forgot to setup the private room and rushed to put something together (as you can see from picture not something I would call romantic), waiter was the same one who served everyone else and food was mediocre at best. Save you money and just eat just at the main restaurant or perhaps another place in town. La bettola was quite good!

We were very lucky to find a vacant place at the table with no previous reservation. They are always full, and now I know why.. food is more than delicious. We had the best meal of our entire trip through Italy at Ristorante Da Clara. We accidentally arrived an hour before opening but with heavy rain, the staff let us enjoy wine inside by the heater while we waited. The dining space was so welcoming and homey. The ravioli and mushroom pasta were delicious, and the arrosticini was the best cooked lamb we’ve ever had. We had some chocolate and orange dish for dessert that was recommended by the waiter… it was to die for. Thank you Da Clara for the beautiful hospitality and food! La Taberna, a restaurant located in a secluded village, offers a delightful dinner experience. (Translated by Google) Very nice place; we went for lunch on a weekday. Unfortunately, the service was very slow because, from what we saw, the woman was alone. She was super nice, but we waited over an hour for a plate of overcooked pasta. The platter was a bit sparse; there were more pickles than cured meats and cheeses. I honestly can't recommend it highly enough. It's a shame because the place is very good. (Original) Luogo molto bello, siamo stati a pranzo in un giorno in settimana. I booked lunch here after reading some ridiculous, less-than-favorable reviews, which made me laugh, especially the owner's responses. I think you have to try it for yourself, and in fact, we had a wonderful time and enjoyed the food just as much. The staff was fun and fast, and the dishes were unique and very good. I always recommend Taberna when I hear from friends who go to Calascio. Congratulations! (Original) Che dire...luogo magico storico stupendo. Complimenti

Trattoria Da Maria is a delightful find, serving an excellent mixed grill and highly recommended ravioli filled with sheep's milk ricotta in a delightful tomato sauce. With limited seating available, it is advisable to make reservations. This charming restaurant promises a return visit with its delicious offerings.

(Translated by Google) It feels like being at a relative's house, a very welcoming family environment with around twenty seats in total in a single room. Excellent dishes of traditional Abruzzo cuisine but worth highlighting are the famous handmade ravioli filled with sheep's ricotta.

(Translated by Google) Flavors and authenticity in every dish. Very nice place in Calascio, without too many pretensions with very few seats (better to book). The dishes are delicious and genuine, it feels like eating at grandma's 😊. Good house red wine, very good price. I got a mixed appetizer with cured meats, cheeses, bruschetta and lentils, two ravioli with sheep's ricotta, an eggnog with millefeuille as dessert, half a liter of wine, water and coffee, €25 each. Homemade service, the owner is very kind. Absolutely recommended. (Original) Sapori e genuinità in ogni piatto. Assolutamente consigliato.

(Translated by Google) A hidden gem among the narrow streets of this charming village. I recommend making a reservation because it's a popular trattoria. Local dishes and ingredients are of excellent quality and expertly prepared. Small seating and a rustic, welcoming atmosphere. Family-run, they're very friendly and make you feel right at home! I recommend the handmade ravioli, truly top-notch! Fair prices! Highly recommended if you're in the area. (Original) Una chicca nascosta tra le viuzze di questo adorabile paesino. Consiglio di prenotare perché è una Trattoria molto richiesta. Piatti e prodotti locali, di ottima qualità e sapientemente preparati. Pochi posti a sedere e ambiente rustico e accogliente. A conduzione familiare, sono molto gentili e ti fanno sentire come a casa! Consiglio i ravioli fatti a mano, veramente da 10 e lode ! Prezzi onesti! Assolutamente consigliato se siete nei paraggi.

(Translated by Google) "Like at home". The feeling is familiar, a small place and, indeed, like home, so much so that the coffee is made in the coffee maker and this is truly a nice treat! Reservation in advance is recommended as there are few tables. Possibility to eat vegetarian and vegan. The side dishes are a little scarce, but ravioli and lentils with the right quality-price ratio (Original) "Come a casa".

Bar Al Nido Del Falco is a charming eatery nestled on the main street of Calascio, perfect for those seeking a delightful lunch break after exploring the stunning surroundings. With its breathtaking mountain views, this spot serves up an array of delicious sandwiches, including a standout porchetta panini and mouthwatering mozzarella and tomato options. Guests rave about the high-quality local ingredients used in their dishes, complemented by refreshing beverages like Montepulciano wine and fresh orange juice.
Lovely mozzarella and tomato sandwich, absolutely delicious. Fresh orange juice. Sweet nectarines. Chilled water. Friendly quick service. Clean toilets. Sat outside in the shade after a 3 hour walk to Rocca Calascio in hot weather and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Parked right alongside the seating area, under the shade. Start of walk just a few yards away. You can drive and park further up if you want, but worth stopping here for a sandwich or a coffee either way.

We stopped here by chance after an hike hoping for some simple snacks and a beer. We asked for a simple “tagliere” (chopping board with some cured meat and cheese) we got something AMAZING! High quality local ingredients, amazing flavors matches and grate care on preparing everything. They even roasted some potatoes for us on the spot. Don’t let the look of the place trick you, the staff is lovely and the food is amazing. Worth every penny!

Nestled in the heart of Abruzzo, La Montanara is a delightful culinary haven that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This charming eatery has quickly become a favorite among locals and travelers alike, thanks to its warm hospitality and exceptional food crafted from fresh, artisanal ingredients. Guests rave about the exquisite truffle ravioli and verdura soup, while the perfectly grilled arrosticini steals the show as a second course.
The food is amazing! Defenetly worth waiting for it, also very cheap! There is sometimes a piano show where someone plays the piano! Definitely worth going here!

This is an outstanding hidden gem of Italy’s! Food was terrific and our server did her absolute best to accommodate our lack of Italian. Very, very reasonably priced and delicious!
Greg L — Google review
I’ve been in Italy for 6 days, including 3 days in Rome. This is the best meal I have had. Fresh, artisanal local ingredients perfectly prepared. We had the truffle ravioli and a verdura soup for primi. Exquisite. Arosticini for secondi was perfectly grilled. Our contorni of sautéed cicoria and potato was so fresh and perfectly balanced. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through Abruzzo.

Nestled within the charming streets of a quaint village, Pane Amaro is a delightful paninoteca that offers an exceptional culinary experience. This hidden gem boasts high-quality ingredients and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes every visitor feel at home. The dining area is adorned with antique tools, adding to its unique character and historical charm. As you explore this cozy spot, you'll discover an impressive variety of sandwiches crafted with care by a dedicated family-run team.
My family stumbled across this place after walking up to the castle. Thank goodness we did, even though we were clueless English tourists, they managed to recommend us some amazing sandwiches that were filling and tasty. They were exactly what we needed and we were very satisfied! Top marks!!!
Charlie K — Google review
Truly, this was the most amazing sandwich I have ever had. Three simple ingredients (including the bread) combined to make something that is superior to anything else. The staff are wonderful, and the atmosphere is great. Pane Amaro is definitely worth the short walk from the main street.

Absolutely surprised by this hidden place! Located in a small street, good that they put up signs, otherwise you wouldn't find it! But I definitely recommend following the signs, right beside the square where you take the bus to La Rocca! First I thought it was a take-out, but then they showed us there dining room, an old basement with all kind of old tools displayed on the walls... Even though it said no service at tables, they brought us our food! Pannini and Bruschetta an absolute dream. Authentic and artisanal food cooked by locals in a local atmosphere. Pack your best italian to be able to order, but that wasn't a problem at all! As usual we got offered a coffee to end the meal, well I can tell you, I was awake after that one!😁 After all, I would definitely recommend this place!

Absolutely fantastic and delicious. Hardworking family run business. A broad range of sandwich options. Individually made. Great prices. 6-9€ for the various combinations. I splurged for the Panino Cinghiale. Perfetto! As other have noted the space is devoted to the town’s history. Gambero Rosso recognition in 2025. We really appreciated the host going the ‘extra mile’ to make a cappuccino per porta via for our ailing friend.

Calascino Café is a charming spot that captures the hearts of its visitors. The owner's warm welcome and the availability of niche products for purchase create an inviting atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a breathtaking view from the terrace while savoring delicious coffee and brunch offerings, including vegan and gluten-free options. Additionally, the barista is knowledgeable about the area, making it a perfect place to relax and gather information over a cup of coffee.
On our way to the “Rocca” above, we stopped in this little “Italian bar” hoping to get some breakfast. We actually had a brunch, since the owner was so very kind to offer bread, cheese and cold cuts rather than pastries. Loved it. They also offer vegan and gluten free products all round, which is an uncommon treat. The barman also has all sort of infos and tales on the surroundings, so make sure to stop by, and ask nicely over a cup of coffee! Totally recommend.

Nicola is an amazing host ! My partner and I loved chatting to him, we found very helpful all the tips he gave us about art culture and sites to explore. He actively helped us to find an open restaurant around the castel (which was magic ) and he went to pick fresh ingredients from the veg garden to create our Hugo cocktails. We love this place . Nicola ci vediamo presto.

A beautiful and elegant Cafe with excellent food and an incredible outdoor seating area with an amazing view of the mountains and valley. There is parking right next door, which makes it's the perfect place to stop on a road trip. It's the nicest cafe in the area, with great people running it. 5 stars!

This place is a true gem. We passed by in the morning to buy sandwiches for our hike in the mountains, and returned again in the afternoon to enjoy the views from the terrace with some of the amazing cocktails they have on offer (make sure to try the Rocco Mule!). Very friendly and English speaking owner. Worth the short detour if you are heading up Campo Imperatore from San Stefano di Sessanio!
