Uzbeki restaurant
Kishlak is a charming restaurant that specializes in traditional Central Asian cuisine. The three dining rooms are beautifully decorated with distinct Central Asian motifs, each representing a different ancient household setting. Guests can enjoy a variety of Uzbek, Uygur, and Kazakh specialties while seated at low teahouse-style tables. The cozy atmosphere, colorful carpets, and authentic dishware add to the restaurant's appeal.
We recently visited Kishlak while traveling from Astana and had an incredible dining experience! The food was super delicious, bursting with flavors in every dish. Our waitress was fantastic—she was very friendly and attentive, making our visit even more enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and highly recommend Kishlak for anyone looking for a great dining experience.

Ethnic food of Central Asia. They have a very wide variety of food to choose from. Being on vacation and new to the area we are still trying to get used to the food and service in this country that is new to us. We enjoyed but not the best food or service we have experienced in this beautiful land with beautiful people. Food was tasty but a little greasy and not very hot. The dessert was the absolute best !
Susan B — Google review
The outdoor area of the restaurant is spacious, but I can’t say the same for the indoor sections. The staff isn’t particularly cheerful, but they are helpful. The food is above average, and the portions are satisfying. It’s a place worth visiting for Kazakh and regional cuisine.
Gökhan N — Google review
Great place to try Central Asian dishes such as Plov, Manti, and Beshbarmak, Kazakhstan’s national dish. The food was delicious and I also loved the interior decor with traditional Central Asia vibes.
Ryan H — Google review
Nice place where you can enjoy the yummy yummy Kazakh food. The place puts you straight away into the atmosphere of Kazakhstan with a fake river a tree inside and more. The waitress is wearing traditional Kazakhstan clothes. There were plenty of choices and we selected some Pilaf rice with salad and some compote. It was really good and the quantity were also important. I definitely recommend this place.
Mathieu L — Google review
Very enjoyable experience. We found this eatery via a google search. Decor inside is very nice. All staff who greeted us were all dressed in local dare I say nomadic clothing? It was a nice surprise. Food and drinks were all served very quickly and in good order. No horse meat for us and we opted to play it very safe. There is a lot of cool features here including the fish in the pond by the foot bridge. Prices were great and would have no hesitation about to recommend.
Avinash B — Google review
Local food with good taste. Menu is rich and contains some other food from the region, i.e., Georgia. Pricewise normal. At the central location. Only negative comment could be the size of the sashlik portion. It could be larger.
Dahi Y — Google review
Very beautiful restaurant, traditionally decorated allover. Serves delicious dishes and delightful tea!!! Live music, a lovely singer, attracting people to dance and enjoy. An unforgettable memory from Almaty!

Farmers Markets
The Green Bazaar in Almaty is a bustling indoor market filled with stalls offering a wide variety of goods. Visitors can explore an abundance of fruits, berries, exotic delicacies, sweets, cheeses, meat products, and rare spices. The friendly sellers are eager to offer samples of national delicacies for visitors to try before making a purchase. Additionally, the market features small dining places serving traditional dishes like lagman and plov.
This is a great location. The first floor (assuming you enter from the main entrance) is the cleanest and most photogenic part. However, as you walk further through the halls and corridors, you’ll first reach the jewelry section. Then, if you take the stairs down, you’ll find the real bazaar on the ground floor, where locals tend to shop due to slightly lower prices. Similar to the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, if you’re willing to explore beyond the main market building, you’ll find many shops scattered along the surrounding streets. From textiles to seeds, almost everything can be found here. You can walk among the locals — the quality is generally low, but so are the prices. At the main entrance, you’ll notice stairs leading to the upper floors. Surprisingly, a coffee shop, a meat restaurant, and a fish restaurant have been set up among the structural columns. The coffee shop is excellent and definitely worth a visit. The meat restaurant is usually packed with locals — it seems to be very good, although I didn’t get the chance to try it. This is definitely a spot that should be experienced.
Gökhan N — Google review
Green Bazaar is not just about a bazaar selling butchery, it has other stalls selling household products. Of course, butchery section is the most interesting. Selling from horse meat, beef, lamp, pork and chicken. The stall holders are very friendly. You can also find Korean food stuff here. There are also money changers with good exchange rates outside.
Lee K — Google review
A hyperactive market bursting with local sights, sounds and smells. Very close to my hotel, the bazar literally offers everything under one roof. From souvenirs, dry fruits, fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, baked goods, clothes, toys and so much more. They have a money exchange there too. Prices are reasonable and fresh produce is of top quality. They even have a salon, prayer room and several cafes. Quality of fruits I bought was excellent. Don't miss it!
Pankaj — Google review
Green Bazaar (Zelyony Bazaar), Almaty 🇰🇿 If you want to experience the real heart of Almaty, Green Bazaar is the place to go! It’s a vibrant, colorful market packed with energy, aromas, and friendly local vendors. You’ll find a huge variety of stalls — from fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and dried fruits to meat, fish, and dairy counters offering local delicacies like horse sausage (kazy), smoked meats, and homemade cheeses. There’s also a big section for spices, honey, chocolates, and herbal teas, all beautifully displayed and perfect for gifts or souvenirs. Upstairs and around the sides, there are stalls selling traditional Kazakh clothing, hats, carpets, handicrafts, and souvenirs, giving you a glimpse of local culture and craftsmanship. Prices are fair, and many vendors offer samples — especially for dried fruits and nuts. Travel Tips: Bring cash (Kazakh tenge), as not every stall takes credit cards. Go in the morning for the freshest produce and fewer crowds. Bargaining politely can help you get better deals. Don’t miss the small eateries around the market serving local snacks and shashlik grills. Overall, Green Bazaar is more than just a market — it’s a cultural experience full of flavors, colors, and local warmth. Highly recommended for families, foodies, and anyone who loves exploring local life.
Semeer K — Google review
Great place. Clean. Lots of interesting food, don’t be afraid to ask for a sample. And prices are fair if you choose to buy. I bought few varieties of delicious horse meat sausage, some horse milk smoked cheese, etc. There is also other areas and levels with fresh fruit, dried fruit, Korean food, local souvenirs, clothing etc.
James W — Google review
An expansive, multi-floor bazaar which sells basically everything from meat and vegetables to clothing and jewelry. It’s a fun place just to walk through and explore.
Matt B — Google review
Green Bazaar is a vibrant, authentic slice of Almaty life that’s surprisingly clean and well-maintained. Even if you’re not typically a market person, this is absolutely worth visiting. The bazaar beautifully captures Kazakhstan’s diverse food culture and ethnic groups, offering a genuine look at local life. It’s colorful, lively, and provides real insight into the daily rhythms and culinary traditions of the city.
Sansiri K — Google review
A local bazaar that's nothing special for those from India. You can buy various dry fruits and nuts, that's pretty much it. The rest is fruits, vegetables and meats and Chinese made clothing and shoes. Visit only if you have nothing else to do and want to buy dry fruits, else skip.

If you're looking to immerse yourself in the rich culinary traditions of Kazakhstan, Navat in Almaty is a must-visit. This charming restaurant specializes in Beshbarmak, a beloved national dish that features tender mutton served with hearty pasta and flavorful broth, all presented beautifully in a large round bowl. The atmosphere at Navat is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for families as it boasts an impressive indoor playroom for children.
This was our first meal in Kazakhstan, and we ended up dining here three times! We tried different dishes on each visit — the food was consistently amazing, and the interior was beautifully done. Some of the staff spoke limited English, which led to a few minor hiccups, but nothing major. Overall, the food was excellent and the prices were quite reasonable.
Mohamed A — Google review
The portions are generous, making it perfect for groups to share and try a variety of dishes. As a tourist, I loved how they offered all the local foods I wanted to try. The ambiance is also stunning, with a picturesque design that enhances the dining experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy local cuisine! it is within 3mins walking distance from Kazakhstan Hotel.
Sabrina C — Google review
The food was tasty. The prices are higher than average for here but you pay for the environment, very cool. We wanted to get more traditional food but they have some main ones. You wait 3-6 minutes to get inside. The service fee is included %10.
R. B — Google review
I think i would recommend this as a very good experience indeed. The overall atmosphere was different and extremely colorful! The food had flavours that we really loved. The service was slow because each server has too many tables to handle. But we still were ok because everything else was super good. The helping were large. The atmosphere is really something to go for. Few vegetarian options only. Fatoush salad was very good. Because of language issues we are really struggling to be understood everywhere. We cannot even really check our bills properly. But our sense is people are honest.
Ravi C — Google review
It was our first time at Navat and this location was recommended to us. The service was very friendly and almost pampering, rather than just serving us. The food was also delicious and the portions were enormous. I would recommend that everyone choose one starter and one dessert rather than having both with their main course. The teas are also very tasty and highly recommended. We also liked the interior.
Johannes K — Google review
Beautiful traditional local decor and delicious food. However, the staff recommended way too much (they suggested 3 big kebabs per person). There was also an overcharge on the bill, but it was eventually corrected. Still, they should be more careful, especially for such a well-known restaurant
Manita C — Google review
Excellent place to visit if you want to try out some local food. They have a ton of options available. Bonus points for having vegetarian options available as well. It is incredibly hard to find non-meat food options in Kazakhstan. The ambiance is fantastic. Great attention to details. Also all food options in the menu have pictures. How good?
Anastasia G — Google review
Slightly more expensive than some other places in town, but definitely a very pleasant experience. It's in a high footfall location and gets plenty of tourists (though it looked like a popular spot for locals too), and the staff were friendly and had no issues communicating with them. Comfortable and fun interior, food portions were a good size, lots of varieties of local foods, all tasted great.

Tandoor Indian Restaurant in Almaty offers a tantalizing experience for anyone craving authentic Indian cuisine. The restaurant's red velvet ceilings and traditional interior create an inviting atmosphere to savor popular dishes like aloo gobhi, chicken tikka, and meat curry. It's a top choice for those seeking genuine Indian flavors while in Almaty, attracting both locals and tourists alike with its luscious setting and diverse menu.
It is Very good Indian food. I have been here few times. consistently good food. service is fine too and they speak Hindi also . Manager and one of service staff is very much polite and definitely will recommend to visit if you are in almaty 👍 will go 🚶‍♂️ again..

Very nice Indian restaurant (with a few pan-Asian dishes) not far out of the centre of Almaty. Good selection of food with cold beer and a relaxing atmosphere. Friendly service and English spoken. Recommended!
Jason I — Google review
It was a nice restaurant. With little wait , due to being crowded, we got our food. Food was OK. Medium spice instructions at the time of ordering is recommended.
GE L — Google review
Drawn by the restaurant’s 20-year legacy and strong feedback, I had high hopes for my visit. However, the experience did not live up to expectations. The spring roll, prepared with cabbage instead of noodles, lacked the classic flavor profile, earning it an average rating of 3 out of 5. The malai kofta, though served with four pieces, was bland and the portion size felt insufficient. While the stuffed potato kulcha stood out as a highlight, the garlic butter naan was burnt, which diminished the meal further. On the positive side, the restaurant boasts a decent ambiance, enhanced by Indian music that adds to the cultural experience. They also accommodate special requests for occasions like birthdays and anniversaries, which is a thoughtful touch. Unfortunately, the evening ended on a sour note as I experienced stomach discomfort shortly after dinner, raising concerns about food quality. While the restaurant has potential and some redeeming features, significant improvements are needed in both food preparation and overall quality to match the legacy it proudly upholds.
Jayanta R — Google review
We had veg food. Food was delicious. Staff is extremely polite. We needed a very small portion of rice for our baby. They quickly served it and didn’t even charge for it.
Ankur P — Google review
The atmosphere at this Indian restaurant was absolutely beautiful - such a warm and inviting place to enjoy a meal. The staff was incredibly friendly and made me feel very welcome. They also kindly explained which dishes could be made vegan, which was very helpful. The food was cooked so deliciously, with so many different flavors that blended together perfectly. Every bite was full of taste and truly unforgettable.

Very tasty Indian food and great service. I ordered chicken assortment and tandoori chicken. I liked everything. You can choose the level of spiciness when ordering.
Shakhman A — Google review
I ordered fried rice from Tandoor Restaurant in Almaty late at night. The portion was very small for the high price. I don’t mind paying more, but the quantity was disappointing. If you order from here (personally not recommended), better order 2–3 portions for a normal meal. Maybe they had less food left that time.

Medved is a charming and cozy restaurant known for its rustic Russian farmhouse decor, featuring traditional ornaments and colorful wooden panels. With branches in Almaty, Astana, and Karaganda, this staple of Kazakhstan's dining scene offers high-quality classical Russian and Ukrainian cuisine. The menu includes dishes like dressed herring, borshch, pelmeni, and bliny.

Georgian restaurant
Daredzhani is a modern Georgian restaurant that seamlessly blends old and contemporary traditions, creating an inviting space for food enthusiasts. The menu features hot khachapuri, marble dough khinkali, and sparkling wine, catering to both gourmets and fans of Georgian cuisine. Vegetarian options are also available. The restaurant offers a selection of Georgian wines that have received positive feedback. Despite being slightly pricey, the excellent food justifies the cost.
Perfect, traditional foods, good service, warm ambiance
ÇAĞRI U — Google review
There are many Georgian restaurants in Almaty, but from my point of view, if you enjoy Georgian cuisine you will like Daredzani as well. The place has different locations in the city. Hence this branch is not in the centre, but you'll be able to enjoy the dishes. We were seated outside. The place looks good and you can hear Georgian modern and old songs playing in the background, which makes it very athmospheric. The service was fast and staff was attentive. We took Pkhali board, Shoti and Ajapsandali. As a Georgian, I must say the board was delicious, but Mchadi is nowhere to be found in whole Almaty, which is strange as it just completes the cuisine, so my advice would be to add it to the menu as it will go well with most of the dishes. Ajapsandali was good, but not the best. Only eggplant and red bell pepper, in Georgia the dish has more flavors. I should mention ice cream, it was served in simple water cup, which is not quite nice, otherwise serving style was ok. Overally it is a good place, adapted to the locals, but some improvements can be taken into account.

Rumi is a restaurant that offers excellent Central Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine in a beautiful interior that immerses you in the atmosphere of the region. While not the most budget-friendly option, prices are still reasonable. The establishment also prides itself on its environmental efforts and charitable work. Customers have enjoyed dishes like pilaf and shurpa, as well as their drinks and desserts. Some have noted friendly staff who speak English and provide helpful service.
I've been coming here every day and even several times a day. No matter what you order is freshly made and delicious. The restaurant is quiet and offers free wifi, which is not common in Almaty.

(Translated by Google) Dinner with family in Rumi. The pilaf, unfortunately, ended by dinner (and it was very tasty), but everything else was pleasing. Deti ordered pastu alfredo, or manti with meat and pumpkin, husband and mother ordered chicken in teriyaki sauce with rice. Drinks — Tashkent tea and lemonade. The service was very fast, the food was tasty, atmospheric. Special thanks to the waiter Azhar - she is polite and attentive. They even brought a blanket because the air conditioner worked. All are well and satisfied. A pleasant place for a family dinner. We went to Rumi restaurant with our family for dinner. Since it was late, unfortunately, there was no pilaf left (and it is very tasty there). The kids got the Pasta Alfredo, I chose the meat and pumpkin stew, and my wife and mom chose the chicken in teriyaki sauce served with rice. We had Tashkent tea and lemonade for tea. The service was fast, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was cozy. The waiter named Azhar was very attentive — polite and quick. Since the AC was on, he even offered us a blanket. Nedelka is a popular café in Almaty, offering a convenient spot for a quick breakfast or coffee. The café is known for its wide selection of pastries and cakes that are not overly sweet, making it a great stop for those with a sweet tooth. I had a really delicious meal here. All tables full but I received top service and excellent English. The price was decent too. They specialise in home cooked food. I had lentil soup, mushroom panini and carrot cake and it was all delicious

Excellent service: friendly, eager, alert, and responsive. One of the best cafe crew I’ve ever seen. Buy why only 3 stars? Why would I not come back? This is a cellphone deadspot. Absolutely zero signal. And in-house Wi-Fi requires a portal with number verification. It makes no sense because you can’t access it without reception.

The food is good but when you order spicy pasta you expect spicy flavour and not just tomato. You also do not expect a manger to look down on you asking if you have ever tasted their pasta and that if they add more jalapeño it might be too spicy but when they bring you a new plate, it’s the same nonsense again. Next time I’ll make sure the manager will sit next to me and eat all the jalapeños until he understands what spicy is 😀

Cafe Nedelka is one of the reasons I’ll visit Almaty again. This cute ‘hole in the wall’ cafe is run by youngsters who manage things around so efficiently. Price, quantity, taste, atmosphere and staff behaviour everything was so welcoming. I had one of the best pastas in my life here, probably why I would love to visit back. Their teas, mocktails, pizzas and everything just taste great. The only suggestion will be to add a few more vegetarian options beyond coffee and French fries to cater to foreign tourists. Overall, definitely worth the visit, very impressive place!

Overall, Nedelka is 5 out of 5. Service is excellent, location is great-central, yet quiet and it gives a very good feeling of privacy. It has both inside and outside dinning area; everyone is provided with a cosy blanket if dinning outside on chilli days. Nedelka serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and variety of deserts and prices are very affordable. Menu is well labeled and there are plenty of vegetarian options. Detail that I liked very much: washing basins both inside and outside the bathrooms. As someone who often uses bathroom just to wash hands before dinner, it’s great to have a washing basin where you don’t need to wait.

Entrecote is a centrally located restaurant with a sister branch near Central Stadium, offering a variety of contemporary cuisine including classic French, Italian, Russian and Kazakh dishes. The vibrant and lively restaurant features a charming interior design reminiscent of traditional European bistros and specializes in meat dishes, particularly steaks. On weekdays, guests can enjoy a three-course business lunch while live music entertains diners on weekend evenings.

My overall experience was good. The atmosphere is nice, and they offer an English menu for foreigners. The waitstaff are kind, though their English skills could use some improvement, so I recommend using Google Translate. The food was good as well, but one downside was that we asked for a medium-well T-bone steak, and it came out rare.

We went to Wine Cafe & Shop to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and it turned out to be one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had! Our reservation was for 8 PM, but we arrived early around 7:30 PM. Despite being ahead of schedule, we were warmly welcomed and given the coziest, nicest seating in the restaurant. As tourists unfamiliar with the menu, we asked for recommendations—and we were not disappointed. We were served the chilli rib eye steak, horse steak, and two wines: Montepulciano and Pecorino. We also tried the fried eggplant with chilli and peanuts as a starter, and it was hands down one of the best starters we’ve had in all our food adventures—absolutely delicious! The rib eye steak was next-level. We ordered it medium well, and it was cooked to perfection—so tender and juicy that the knife cut through it like butter. It was easily the best rib eye we’ve ever had. It was also our first time trying horse steak, and we were surprised by how much we loved it! It had a rich, slightly sweet flavor, was incredibly tender, and honestly reminded us of a softer, sweeter beef. We’re now hooked! And what truly made the night unforgettable was the service. The staff were amazing—fast, attentive, and genuinely warm. To top it off, they surprised us with a birthday cake and sang happy birthday to my husband. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture. If you’re ever in Almaty, definitely make time to visit this gem. Exceptional food, wonderful wine, and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel right at home.

I tried Kazakh wine here with trout fish. The fish was nicely presented but wasn't seasoned very well, and it was bland. Otherwise, the ambiance is nice. The desserts were good, and the lemonade was also nice. It is pricy though.

Absolutely brilliant. Prices are beyond acceptable for the exquisite quality, if anything they are underpriced. The wine list is comprehensive with much variety yet is shadowed by the food menu. The horse meat steak is a personal recommendation and the honey cake for desert. The staff were brilliant switching to English as soon as required and were always professional and polite. 5/5 will visit again for certain.

After 5 days in Almaty with sub standard service, it was great to be in a restaurant that was attentive to the customer. My server (Nigara) was superb and recommended great wines and dishes for me to try. As a preferred vegetarian, it was good to get options that catered to a vegetarian palatte that didnt rely on replacing meat with eggplant. Wines were great too and despite living in wine producing countries and having experimented a lot with wine, i was introduced to some great new options. The baked camambert with berry jam was a standout starter

I have to quit saying I have a new favorite restaurant in town because almost every time I find a new place I think it's my new favorite. Is this my new favorite? Until next Sunday at least! Every once in a while I have a really bad dining experiences in Almaty, this was not one of them. From the service, to the music, to the decor, to the food this place was 5 stars. I had the spinach fingers as an appetizer. With a name like that, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was spinach and cheese egg rolls. They were delicious. Then I had the salmon and cream cheese ravioli as my entree. My ravioli was topped with cute little purplish sprouts. I drank Oolong tea. I could see myself dining here often. I've already practically forgotten about the places my colleagues recommended as *best of Almaty* when I first moved here. I do have a warning. If you haven't been here before: there's another business right next door with the exact same name. But it's not the same cafe!!! Make sure you come to this one! I posted a pic of the outside from the sidewalk.

Not like any other restaurants I’ve visited. It was recommended by my friend, but unfortunately the staff didn’t provide equal treatment. You have to wait for them to notice you if you need something, while their attention seems to be elsewhere. On the positive side, the food is nice, which is the saving grace of the experience.

I will give 1 star because they are expensive. The staffs are not friendly. No one speaks English, so this means we had a horrible time explaining them what we want. The manager doesn't even know how to speak English. I use Google translator but unfortunately they can't even understand. Further you have to wait for 1 hour for your order. In short, I don't recommend this placeif you are English speaker.

The restaurant is in the Koktobe district, which overlooks Almaty and which we ascended by cable car. Overall, I really liked the place. The interior is beautiful. Inside, there's a beautifully designed wall inscribed with poems by Abay, the great Kazakh thinker from whom the restaurant takes its name. The ceiling is also designed to resemble a Kazakh tent. The outdoor area offers a beautiful view of Almaty. There are good angles for those who want to take photos. We were full when we went so we didn't get to try the food, but we did get to try the wonderful fruit juices. They have a variety of different blends, which I'm not used to. I think we didn't have a very good time with the waiters, or maybe they were a bit grumpy because we didn't eat and ordered different juices several times. The lady who runs the restaurant, dressed in traditional attire, wandered around asking if we needed anything. She was a very sweet woman. When you go to Almaty, you should definitely go to Koktobe, and I highly recommend you visit Abay while you're there.

Nuala is a charming restaurant nestled in the Central Post Office building of Almaty. Its New Zealand-inspired theme, led by chef Taras Korchagin, offers a modern twist on comfort food with its "Water and Earth" menu sections. The wine selection boasts over 700 labels from classic and emerging regions, with a focus on Sauvignon Blanc.
Here's a rewritten version with a bit more flair: "This hip eatery is a flavor fiesta! The international menu is a culinary globe-trot, and everything I tried was simply fantastic. The creamy pâté was the perfect starter, while the duck was cooked to perfection – melt-in-your-mouth goodness! The pecan cheese cake was delightful, and the chocolate cake? Decadent! A highlight was discovering a local red wine (see pictured for the name), which pleasantly surprised me with its rich flavors – definitely worth trying again!"
Roberto P — Google review
Nuala is a hip restaurant with a beautiful menu, situated in a setting with medium/high level music and champagne on every table. The waiters are smart and uniformed, with small shoulder pouches equipped with whatever they need to make the clients happy. The space has both indoor and outdoor seating. The menus comprise ample seafood and meat selections in an easy-to-read two column format in both English and Russian on the obverse. The whole seabass with dressed greens is one of the best I’ve tasted in Central Asia, perfectly cooked on both visits I came with the perfect amount of fat and lean balanced in proportion. The dressed greens had a hint of lemon to provide enough contrast and not steal the show from the fish. Pastas are great — congolese (aka clams) and king crab were sweet and perfectly accompanied with a light butter sauce and homemade noodles, though my nitpick is that the noodles were a bit entangled and difficult to separate and eat. Wine is served in the proper glassware and even decanted on some occasions. Would definitely return. One of the best restaurants in Almaty.

Visited in September 2025. Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 Almaty. Drawn by glowing reviews and a seafood-heavy menu, we chose Nuala and settled on its lovely summer veranda. The indoor dining area is equally striking, with an elegant art deco design that clearly had a lot of effort poured into it. FOOD: The menu showcases high-quality seafood, sourced from Europe and Russia (notably the scallops), alongside some meat options. We sampled several small plates to get a taste of the range. The two Gillardeau oysters were a standout—meaty, fresh, with a subtle briny and sweet flavor, perfectly detached from their shells. The popcorn shrimp were a hit, ordered multiple times for their soft, juicy flesh and crisp coating, lightly dressed with a mayo-based sauce—simple yet consistently delicious. The smoked salmon pâté had a pleasant, creamy texture, though softer bread would’ve been better for spreading. The grilled octopus was tender but slightly chewy and lacked the smoky, grilled flavor we craved. The scallop carpaccio impressed with its sweet, fresh, and delicate texture. However, the vegetable dishes fell flat: the tonnato peppers had barely a trace of sauce, leaving the pepper to dominate, while the cabbage, though properly cooked and soft, blended too much with its creamy sauce, lacking a distinct flavor punch. A pleasant addition was the ice cream they offer as a complimentary treat at the end of the meal. SERVICE: We visited twice, and the first experience was exceptional, thanks to our waiter Anton, a true professional who made us feel cared for with every step. The second visit, however, was lackluster, with service that felt hit-or-miss depending on the staff. VERDICT: Nuala left us with fond memories, thanks to its quality food and inviting atmosphere. The extensive wine and champagne list—practically a book of its own—at reasonable prices was a rare treat. We recommend it for seafood lovers and those seeking a stylish dining experience in Almaty.

Beautiful interiors. We had an initial struggle as we are English speakers but they found a waiter who could communicate with us promptly. It was also so easy to reserve with them via WhatsApp. Everything we tasted was so tender, delicious, and seasoned well, with the beef stracciatella and chicken course as standouts. They even gave us complimentary ice cream which is their current collab with La Perla.

Nuala is a great restaurant. The waiters are polite, courteous, and attentive, and the food is terrific. The quality is of a high European standard and reasonably priced for what you get. We'll be back and recommend that anyone visiting Kazakhstan or living in Almaty should visit at least once.

One of the worst experiences after coming back to Almaty. Both places in the chain - Nuala and Beefeater deteriorated in service significantly. There are plenty of places in the same areas that provide more professional service, level of hospitality and price/quality is better. Would name Nuala - avoid at all costs! Not worth your time and money!

I just had the worse ever restaurant experience in Almaty, I was with my friends and the waitress was sooo mean and rude, we were talking about beshparmak, and she half heard the conversation saying to us even i didn’t asked her, that we don’t serve the beshparmak. Later we ordered latte, she said I am not good at making latte, so I will try as I can . How it is possible to talk like this??? I forgot to ask her name unfortunately, but totally do not recommend this place they are racist 😡

I visited this place plenty of times and parking is the most sacred resource, other than that it was awesome. I visited this place with my family. My four-year-old daughter loved the tomato shorba, and we had delicious honey chilli gobi. We are delighted by the prompt service and the genuinely wonderful taste. We take away the butter chicken with us, which also meets our expectations. I highly recommend this place. We loved the ambience and the warm vibe of this place. The Indian food was a standout, the chicken tandoori and lamb biryani were flavourful, perfectly seasoned, and served in just the right quantity. After days of enjoying Asian and Kazakh dishes in the city, this meal was a wonderful and much-needed change. Highly recommend!

This is one of my favourite places to dine in for Indian food in Almaty. I almost had meals everyday at this place during my week long trip to Almaty. They have ample menu options for both vegetarian and non vegetarian food. They serve North Indian as well as Indian Chinese food. The tomato shorba is a must try here. We also had paneer Subzi, parathas, dal, spring roll. The food is delicious and served piping hot. The ambience too is nice and spacious.

"Cafeteria" is a trendy spot known for its delicious snacks, coffee, and desserts. It's a popular meeting place for creative individuals attending various exhibitions and gatherings. The cafe offers a cozy atmosphere with unique decorations, making visitors feel at home. Customers have praised the avocado toast with smoked salmon as the best in Almaty and have enjoyed the delightful breakfast options such as eggs Benedict and croissants.
It’s a real pleasure to come here on weekends for a peaceful breakfast. This place feels like a little piece of paradise, offering a mindful break. The food is excellent, and the menu offers great variety and quality.

Cafeteria is a nice cozy place in the centre of Almaty. There are many coffee shops nearby, but Cafeteria has a very wide variety of breakfast options and dishes. You have an option to seat inside or outside. The staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive. They offer breakfast until 16:00, some of the breakfast options are all day. Besides breakfasts, there's plenty of options of salads, soups and main course dishes. You can gave a freshly baked croissant or nicely designed desserts. Bonus, you can grab a fresh bread for home as well. Myself, I was craving some breakfast things, so tried eggs benedict with ham. It was delicious but would be better if it was little bit hot, not warm. Also I asked for extra hot cappuccino, they got it right. Very convenient and pleasant place. So have little rest there, while you explore the city.

Cozy Café With Great Avocado Toast & Good Coffee We came for breakfast and ordered: Cappuccino with oat milk Iced Americano Avocado toast (we added an extra egg) The avocado toast was delicious, with fresh ingredients and tasty bread that made it stand out. Coffee was also very good — the kind you enjoy slowly in a relaxed place. Paid 17,450 KTZ for 2 people. The café has nice vibes, tasteful decoration, and a quiet ambience. I noticed some people working on laptops, so it’s a great spot for breakfast and getting some work done. Service was friendly and fast. Some staff speak good English, and there’s an English menu available. Practical details: • Indoor and outdoor seating • Cash & card accepted A perfect breakfast spot if you want a calm atmosphere, good coffee, and a tasty avocado toast.

Absoulately the best cafe in town. Waters they do care, response so fast, atmosphere inside and outside is so nice, service is quite fast compared to other cafes, there are various types of food, bakery inside, and good cofee. I visit so often and definately recommend a nice breakfast or lunch here. One bad side is that you can not smoke outside tables but have a smoking corner nearby. Reasonable prices. They have English speaking personnel and menu. Must visit place to snack and eat in Almaty.

Delicious. We specifically went as a belated adoption day celebration for our daughter. She asked me to pick a place with good desserts. This one looked like it had good ones. We were not disappointed there. In addition, it was the best avocado toast I've had in Almaty. I've tried it at four different restaurants and this was definitely the best. I ordered mine with smoked salmon, it comes on the side but I put mine on top and ate it that way. Everything we ate was good. My latte was served cold even when I ordered it extra, EXTRA hot...but that's a thing here, no one wants to serve me hot coffee and I don't understand why. That's why I'm giving them four stars and not five. They spoke English, and I explained I wanted my latte EXTREMELY hot, hot like the sun, and it was served little more than cold. I should have ordered an iced latte I guess. Still, the food was delicious and I will definitely be back.

Very strange situations in this place. After having ordered in the restaurant (on a Wednesday afternoon), the barman thought I looked young so decided to tell the waitress I was too young. They then came to tell me about the 21+ policy (before checking my passport, while I’m obviously older than that!). After checking my passport the barman said that he will get “a lemonade for the kid”, even though we ordered a beer. I do look young, but obviously older than 21. In the end they did bring beer, but even after having showed my passport they obviously continued discussing me. Overall, the food wasn’t good as well. The steak was mainly fat and the sides were half portions. I couldn’t enjoy at all because I was irritated by the unfriendly service all night. I don’t understand such a treatment to clients that spend pretty much money. Never coming back here. It was also very cold and the waitress was intensively flirting with the barman who was obviously 20 years older. In short, everything was weird and not nice at all. We were talking about how dissapointes we were all night.

SANDYQ in Almaty offers a fine dining experience with live performances of local bands playing traditional music. The restaurant serves Central Asian cuisine, including dishes like plov and manti, as well as delicacies such as horse meat prepared in an upscale manner with generous side dish options. In the evening, guests can enjoy local bands performing traditional music, adding to the cultural experience.
Our group has visited this restaurant at Saturday. It was exited atmosphere with live music. Local songs were amazing! Thanks a lot for Dana, she helps us not only to make a better choice to try local food, but also she made for us good excursion and shared all knowledge which her able to do. It was very interesting!

Amazing food. Had the Zhylyk canoe cut bone marrow that was absolutely delicious and silky smooth. The Qymyz Qabyrga lamb ribs in kumis were delicious and fall off the bone. Although I had expected them to be considerably larger. And the Baursak bread balls with sweet jam were a nice sweet option to pair with the savory dishes. Service was very pleasant and friendly. Their only miss was leaving my table set for 3 when I was a single diner which cramped the table when numerous plates arrived. I would’ve expected that in a place as nice as this, they would remove the extra settings but no big deal.

Check out my photos and videos to see some of the must-try dishes here—I’m sure there are many more gems on the menu too. The portions for the main dishes are generous, so definitely come hungry. Desserts were delicious, and our waiter really made the experience special. He took the time to explain the dishes and even showed us how to properly eat one of them. Overall, a great experience and one I’d happily recommend!

A wonderful restaurant with excellent service. The waiters are dressed in traditional Kazakh costumes, which adds a unique charm. The food is exceptionally delicious and beautifully presented. The only drawback is that alcohol is not offered, but this does not spoil the overall impression.

We saw on the website that Sandyq is one of the best local Restaurant, thus we walked in to have dinner at 6pm on September 2025 Apparently, you need to make reservations, and the Hostess at the entrance told us Restaurant is fully booked but if we could finish our meal by 7.30pm as their next reservation is at 8pm, we could still dine in. We proceeded and was seated. Restaurant has great interior decors and well. appointed. It is very impressive and grand, well staffed with hostesses, to waitresses and staff in traditional Kazakh costumes. From the Menu, the lady staff explained in fluent English recommending their best dishes helping us to order, as we are not familiar with Kazakhs cuisine. Their menu features a variety of camel, horse and veal dishes, The horse milk is too sour, and horse Steak is not tender, texture is marshy. The bread basket with traditional sweets is hot and crispy. Despite a rushed dinner meal, their prices are on the high but we could have a better time spent watching their show in the evening if we have made earlier reservation, Alas ! their appointed show only commence at 8.30pm.

Sandyq is one of those places that leaves a lasting impression. The setting is beautiful, with an elegant and welcoming vibe that makes it perfect for both an evening out with friends or a special occasion. Adding to the atmosphere are the live performances, which really elevate the dining experience and give you a taste of local culture beyond the food. The menu celebrates traditional Kazakh cuisine, and everything we tried was flavorful and authentic. I’d highly recommend trying the horse meat dishes, a true Kazakh specialty and prepared here with great care. The salads were a highlight too: farm fresh, crisp, and full of flavor, the kind of freshness that you can immediately taste. Portion sizes are generous, so it’s a wonderful place to share dishes and sample a little of everything. The assorted bread basket was a delightful surprise filled with freshly baked goodies including warm, fluffy baursak and other treats that paired beautifully with the meal. Sandyq delivers not just a fantastic dinner but a full cultural experience!

Although the price is slightly on the higher side, it’s worth every bit. The kuurdak and lamb ribs, both absolutely delicious and definitely living up to their reputation. I tried kumis too, which turned out much better than I expected. Best to make a reservation through the website, as it gets crowded even on weekdays!

Discovered this spot through Perplexity (all hail the AI overlords), and it definitely didn’t disappoint! We ordered the beetroot salad, bersmamek, a dumpling soup, and the local Kazak dessert platter. Every dish was delicious, though the dessert platter was a bit too sweet for our taste. A huge thank you to Batyrkhan for his exceptional service and hospitality. Despite the language barrier, he was incredibly patient and made every effort to communicate with us. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to try authentic Kazakh cuisine!

I was hesitant to try this restaurant because it had bad reviews. However, I still gave it a chance, hoping my experience would be different. Unfortunately, it turned out to be another disappointing visit. I ordered soup, which was nothing special. For my main course, I had lamb, which they served after almost an hour. It was salty and so tough that it was hard to chew. They recooked it, but it was still the same. Overall, it was an unpleasant experience. To make things worse, it was overpriced—costing me over 10,000. The only good thing was the staff, who could barely speak English but were at least apologetic. Not recommended, and I definitely won’t be coming back.

The staff were incredibly friendly and even offered to take a photo of us wearing a shapan (traditional Kazakh clothes), which made the experience even more special.

Frau Irma is a German restaurant known for its generous servings and excellent selection of German beers. The menu includes traditional dishes like sausages, schnitzels, and pork knuckle. While the prices are higher compared to other options, the quality of food and service justifies the cost. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating with mist spray to keep patrons cool during hot summer days.
The sausages and the environment were great. The schnitzel was not schnitzel. It's a breaded chicken breast. It's a yummy breaded chicken breast, but not a schnitzel. As long as you order it knowing that then you'll still enjoy your meal. Our teen daughter ordered it and really like it. I was only disappointed because she had wanted to order a burger and I wouldn't let her, I said no, we're on a German restaurant, you're going to order something German, then what she ended up with was just you're typical breaded chicken breast I make at home. Anyway, it was good and she liked it. There was a miscommunication about which appetizer we wanted, this salad is not what we had wanted, but we ate it anyway and it was really good! I can't tell you what it's was because I don't know. There were a couple other little issues with service like we ordered a bottle of water but didn't get any glasses and I couldn't find the server forever to ask him to get us some, but we've lived outside the US for 9 years now and traveled in nearly 50 countries and we've grown fairly accustomed to varying levels of service. The sausages really were great. I'll definitely be going back and recommending the place to friends.

Harissa is a Middle Eastern restaurant in Almaty that offers a variety of delicious dishes. Their endless hummus with customizable toppings and chickpea and vegetable salad provide unique twists on popular Middle Eastern fare. The shawarma, available as a platter or wrapped in lavash, features juicy mutton chunks and comes with additional sauces for flavor enhancement. The menu also includes a combo of delectable desserts, offering a wide array of options to explore.
My friend and I walked the streets looking for dinner. We were looking for a light menu, but it seemed like all the restaurants were serving big meals. The only reason we went into Harissa was because it had a sophisticated exterior. The waiter treated us very carefully and did not push anything on us, only showing hospitality. His English was also good. Additionally, the food and tea were great. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

I decided to try this place after seeing they offered gluten-free options and I’m so glad I did! The food was delicious with plenty of great choices, and the gluten-free brownie was a real treat. Great atmosphere and the live dombra player added a special touch. I’d definitely come back again!

We had a fantastic experience at this restaurant in Almaty! We ordered a variety of dishes, and the meat with hummus and lamb with rice were absolutely incredible—full of flavor and perfectly prepared. The lentil soup, however, was a letdown, lacking the depth we expected. Despite that, the overall experience was great. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was amazing, creating a warm and inviting vibe. A big plus was the spotlessly clean toilet, which stood out. The bill came to 18,000 KZT, which felt reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. I’d definitely return for the standout dishes and great atmosphere!

I was searching for an authentic lebanese restaurant since i live in the middle east. Then I came across Harissa restaurant which i found out through google. I must say that the food was amazing & the hospitality of Nurgis was brilliant as well. He made sure that food was served to me on time. He spoke good english as well. After food , I had this amazing "karak chai" which is a must try if you are visiting the restaurant. There are plenty of vegetarian options available as well. I tried couple of their vegetarian options such as Ravioli , Tofu Pide & Hummus with bread.

Was really disappointed. The lentil soup was fine but nothing compared to what we've had previously in other places. The chickpea salad was incredibly stingy with the chickpeas. And the vegetable stuffed bread was just wet tomatoes between stale bread. Wouldn't recommend at all. A real shame after all the great reviews we'd seen.

Bar
Nestled in an industrial setting, All Saints Bar is a haven for beer enthusiasts, boasting an impressive selection of 32 taps featuring brews from Belgium, Scotland, Germany, and England among others. The vibe here is laid-back and welcoming, making it the perfect spot to unwind. With rock and grunge tunes filling the air and a friendly team ready to assist you—Sergei, Kirill, and Galya—you'll feel right at home.
Amazing bar with incredible atmosphere and very good selection of beers on tap. Sometimes they even host some events.

Biggest selection of global beers on tap in Almaty. Best rock and grunge tunes blaring from under the ceiling. Super friendly and sociable management and staff: Sergei, Kirill and Galya. Ask the staff for available customised merchandise.

I am conflicted about Kazakhstan. 2 out of 5 people on average are either rude or indifferent(in a bad way). And that is exactly the feeling this place exudes as well. It is as if you are asking for a favor from the bartender. While the beer was decent (they don't have local beers, only imported), the hospitality was not at all. You feel like an outsider. Not going again. Which is bad because the place itself has so much potential. For gods sake just be more welcoming as hosts!

Great beer and great music! One of the best craft beer bars in the city!
Luke N — Google review
Interior design is good and I approved of the set-back location, however, the place is super overpriced, hence why it was empty on a Saturday evening, plus the bartender's were too distracted to even notice the one guy (me) waiting to order a beer - so we left to a better place, my friends having paid more for a beer than in London. Wouldn't recommend currently.

A really cool place with a good choice of beer from around the world. Artistic interior and good layout of tables and sitting places. A big plus that owner talks to guests and they count number of beers sold, we were #62050. Thanks!

Thai restaurant
Nestled away from the bustling streets of Almaty, Bangkok Thai restaurant offers an authentic taste of Thailand that feels like a culinary escape. Just a short distance from the Kazakhstan hotel, this hidden gem is worth venturing off the beaten path for. With budget-friendly options like Tom Yum soup and Pad Thai, it caters to all diners without compromising on quality.
As a Thai person, i would say this is the real, original Tomyum taste (less spicy than usual but all flavors are just right!) I'd recommend ordering the omelette (not on the menu but it's the best combination with Tomyum) I also tried Pad tai and Pad krapaw and yeah! They were exactly what i always expect from a great Thai restaurant. Absolutely delicious! SALUTE 🫡
Chanyaa H — Google review
Everything we ordered was delicious. Fried rice with beef 🤌🏻 the beef was juicy and tender Red curry 🤌🏻 was also amazing with a rich taste of coconut milk Pad Thai with chicken was so so. I think because I was overwhelmed by the others dishes. Red Thai milk tea was good. Just a bit too sweet (you should ask them to adjust the sugar level)
Thuy V — Google review
Overall, it’s a nice place. The food we ordered was very delicious! The dining area is small, but I found it cozy — a good spot to sit quietly, talk, and enjoy your meal in a relaxed atmosphere.
Bakhor R — Google review
A hidden gem in Almaty, true to authentic thai taste. Having tried thai cuisine almost everywhere i've traveled in Thailand and other countries, every single dish held the original local taste. Tom Yum, papaya salad, chicken satay, pineapple fried rice and the dragon eye fruit drink are a must try.
Patrick J — Google review
Little cafe near Pioneer Palace, but in a quiet area, on Lugansky street. Not only Thai cuisine, also some Korean, Indian and other South East Asian countries dishes. Quick, polite service. Prices are a bit too much even considering the prestigious location. However, nicely cooked, the egg salad was tasty. Samosa were quite small in size comparing to the price. The interior is nice and humble. There were almost no people, so it is definitely for "quiet places" lovers.
Muslim S — Google review
Nestled between some suburban streets, this Thai restaurant was the best Thai food we have eaten in Central Asia. They even had soup and dry sukiyaki!! The wok hei of the pad see ew was perfect! The papaya salad tasted as it should be and had a very good kick to it! Highly recommend this place. We’ll come back for sure.

This is not real Thai food. It looks like the chef just searched on Instagram for pictures of Thai food and copied the visual. All the key ingredients are missing—there's no lime, no fish sauce, and no garlic. Everything about it is completely WRONG!.
Suksit K — Google review
Real Thai chefs. The place is crowded, even though looks very simple. If you don't know for sure you may be lost as the entrance is not really noticeable. But if you want real Thai tom-yum then you're at the right place. Prices are very reasonable.

Luckee Yu is a popular dining spot in Almaty, offering reasonably priced high-quality food and great service. The sushi is considered above average for the area, and the noodles with chicken are particularly recommended. While there have been occasional issues with inconsistent temperature of the miso soup, overall it's a great place for lunch. Visitors have praised the attentive waitstaff who provide helpful suggestions and recommendations.
Everything was yummy! That chicken is incredible, nice vibe and amazing design. The location is also pretty good. The only thing that the table we had was right beside the waiters computer where they take orders, so we were constantly around waiters, running around us which made us very uncomfortable. Girls there are not really nice, guys were so polite and attentive.

Luckee Yu in Almaty, Kazakstan is just a short walking distance from our hotel. It’s a cozy little eatery that offers a variety of delicious Asian cuisine, including noodles, dumplings, and flavorful stir-fried dishes. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, perfect for a quick but satisfying meal after a day of exploring the city. The staff were friendly, and the food was freshly made and full of flavor — a great spot for anyone craving Asian comfort food in Almaty.

We had a wonderful lunch here. The decor is a cool mix of funky and comfortable, making it a cozy and interesting place to eat. The staff are great—friendly, quick, and really care about your experience. The food is a delicious asian-fusion. The menu has lots of tasty and well-presented options for everyone. Definitely a go-to spot for a good meal in Almaty, whether it's a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner.
Marina S — Google review
While the interior of this restaurant feels hip and Hong Kong-esque, the food and service do not live up to these standards. Waiting for the meal, we witnessed other tables sending items back to the kitchen, causing us to worry from the start. We began our meal with a Thai iced tea, which was nothing more than milk with sugar. We found the beef noodles and cucumbers fine, but the beef dumplings were inedible - advertised with tofu and kimchi ingredients but were to be seen and the taste was bland. The meat looked questionable. We brought this to the attention of our waitress: she insisted that all the ingredients were included and refused to take back the dish and did not remove the item from our bill. The manager was also unhelpful and frankly rude. There are plenty of fine restaurants in Almaty with professional customer service; this isn’t one of them.
Christianna B — Google review
Great food, a curated blend of Asian tastes served in small but meaningful portions. Definitely get the bao and, if you like spicy, dive into a bowl of kalbi beef noodles. Also, the pan fried beef dumplings are not to be missed.

This is a must dine in location in Almaty. We were lucky it was next to our hotel. Every single dish we tried was amazing. Reasonably priced with good quantities. The bread was so soft and the sushi perfect. Lovely attentive waiters and super nice with suggestions and recommendations. This particular branch serves food way too slow. We tried it the first time and our food arrived more than 30 mins. They compensated us with a free dessert. We decided to dine in again since the staff apologized the first time and we thought that since the place was full then the kitchen will be busy as well. Second time we dined in our food came almost an hour. And they’ve served our desserts first before the main course. We ended up cancelling our order and called it a night.

Tasty Vegetarian Burgers & Summer-Friendly Terrace We ordered the vegetarian burger and the spicy vegetarian burger, both served with fries, plus a berry kombucha and a beer. The beetroot patty was tasty, though a bit thin. The sauce and the bun were also very good, and the fries were excellent. The berry kombucha was refreshing and flavorful. We paid around 16,000 KZT for two people including drinks. The place has modern vibes and a nice outdoor terrace, perfect for summer days. Service was friendly, and the staff spoke English. We also received an English menu. Practical details: • Indoor seating and outdoor terrace available • Cash and card payments accepted A good choice if you’re looking for tasty vegetarian burgers in a relaxed, modern setting.

We ate the chicken combo menu as two people. The spicy fries were very crispy and delicious. The spicy burger was also very nice with the sauces. The fruit drink we drank was their own production and it was very good. Also, our waiter Vitalii took good care of us. Knowing English was also a great advantage for us. Thank you Vitali.

Likely the best fries I have ever had anywhere. Superb crispiness despite the overload of sauce on top, extremely well picked spices, and superb fresh green onions to top it all of. The vegetarian burger tasted fine as well but the patties were too mushy for my taste, would have been better if they were crispier, perhaps with a breading of sorts. In any case, certainly one of the highlights of our trip in Almaty.

Bar
Tarkhun Restaurant in Almaty is a popular spot offering traditional and fusion cuisine from Kazakhstan. The well-decorated restaurant provides various seating areas, both indoors and outdoors. Their menu features a wide selection of Central Asian dishes such as Plov, Manti, and Lagman, as well as Georgian fusion food like eggplant roll with tomatoes and walnuts.
Great restaurant, atmosphere, service, and employees. My only slight complaint is the price, I would've given a 4.5 if i could've. It's higher than expected. You can probably try to eat here for 12-20USD/6,500-10,000 tenge per person really, not 4-6k. That's still not too bad for a foreigner though. And it's definitely worth it if you get a steak. One of the best priced steaks you'll ever have access too (comes with grilled corn). The fresh brewed teas are also amazing. You can have lots of local food, general central Asian food, and Baltic region food (like azerbaijani) here. If you'd like to try horse, that's here too. You can buy it (in sausage form) for 10USD/5,000 tenge or add some slices (sausage) to your plov/plof (if you order it) for 5USD/2,500 tenge (these options aren't on the menu, you must ask). You can generally customize your meal here (can't at some other restaurants). This is a sit down place, not really a place for a quick meal. It's warm, seats are comfortable, staff are friendly. Free wifi isn't available though. Big place. No wait for a table. However, you can reserve spaces for parties. Also, LOTS of the staff speak English.

We visited this restaurant on our first day of a 5D4N tour in Kazakhstan, and it was the perfect start to our trip. The food was excellent — we tried Chkmeruli (Georgian chicken in garlic sauce), Khinkali with beef, pork lula kebab, lamb ribs, homemade lagman, and even a pepperoni pizza. Everything was delicious, freshly prepared, and full of authentic flavor. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and the portions were generous. We also enjoyed their refreshing lemon-lime lemonade. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a mix of Georgian, Central Asian, and international dishes during your stay in Kazakhstan!

One of the best restaurants in Almaty. Found it better than the Navat restaurant too. They serve local cuisine as well as the neighboring cuisines as well. We tried many of their dishes and everything was on point. The ambience is wonderful and the service too. The food comes quick. We tried the Samsa, the manti, the lamb chops, dolma, the green salad, Shahslik, the Tashkent tea.I would definitely go back to this restaurant if ever I visited Almaty.

Sprawling space with live singers and fires to keep you warm. Wanted to try some local food before I leave. The reviews pulled me here and fairly good. The menu is vast with even Italian and Asian dishes available. I chose the lamb Syrne which is a stew like dish with potatoes and bell peppers. The meat was good and well cooked. I finished with a portion of chicken samsa which were served piping hot. Cost me around 6710 KZT. Servers speak limited English but are friendly though at times getting their attention can be a real task.

I had a great experience dining at Ogonek. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The interior and exterior design of the restaurant were also very pleasing. Although the indoor seating area can get a bit crowded and noisy, they make up for it with good music. If you prefer a quieter meal, I would recommend sitting outside. The menu may not have a wide variety of options for first and second courses, but the dishes I tried were tasty.
Pretty great restaurant with a cosy atmosphere, a nice welcoming service. The food was great - the small plates are quite delicious (especially the patte and humus), and the desserts were exquisite (especially the quaimak and the chocolate cake). The coffee is a specialty one, so it's a great addition to the desserts. It's definitely worth going to that place.

Nice presentation of all the dishes, staff was super friendly explaining the dishes. Lots of interesting options for main. We had the beef tartar with pickled tomatoes and focaccia bread was really nice. Atmosphere is very cozy and welcoming, definitely better for dinner. Would come back!!
Daniel B — Google review
Visited in September 2025. Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 Almaty. Ogonek offers a spacious dining hall and a cozy summer terrace. The stylish interior, with high ceilings and elegant arches, adds an airy, sophisticated feel to the space, making it an inviting spot for a meal. FOOD: Specializing in meat and grill, the restaurant also boasts an oven for baking fresh bread and flatbreads. Our first visit was marred by grill issues, so we returned for a second try and also stopped by for breakfast. The okroshka was a highlight—perfectly diced, crisp vegetables, well-cooked meat, and a thick, refreshing ayran base, delivering a vibrant, cooling flavor ideal for a hot day. The grilled seabass was expertly cooked, juicy and flavorful, though the sauce slightly overpowered the fish’s delicate taste. The pike perch cutlets stuffed with shrimp mousse were a bit dry, but the soufflé-like filling added a pleasant texture and saved the dish, resulting in a decent flavor profile. For breakfast, the brioche with eel and poached egg disappointed—only two thin slices of eel got lost in the egg and bread, not worth a reorder. However, the chicken and egg burger was a winner, with a soft brioche bun and juicy chicken patty, making for a hearty breakfast choice. SERVICE: Our waitress was charming, offering helpful menu suggestions and creating a warm, engaging experience that made us feel right at home. VERDICT: Ogonek is a solid choice in Almaty, offering a high level of culinary quality and warm service. It’s a restaurant you can confidently visit for a delicious meal, whether for breakfast or dinner, and I recommend it as one of the city’s standout dining spots.

The bar offers set tastings with around 6 wines to try, including both reds and whites. Visitors can also purchase wines in different amounts - by taste, glass, or bottle. The staff is knowledgeable and provides thorough descriptions of each wine in English, making it accessible to non-Russian speakers.

A friend in Almaty recommended this winery, so I stopped by their sales location in the city. Arba Wine is a Kazakh vineyard producing handcrafted wines from European grape varieties grown in the Assa Valley near Almaty. They also offer half-day tours to their vineyard, located about 60 km outside the city. I picked up a bottle of AK Arba Riesling and the Muskat Rosé Prosecco—excellent choices.

Kazakh wines produced from both restored Soviet-era vineyards, and some imported varietals. For about $6 you get a tasting of 4 reds and 4 whites. They gave us a through description of each one. While my better half speaks Russian, I appreciated the fact that they gave us the talk in English, and provided historical context.

I stopped by this wine place while traveling solo and honestly it wasn’t really a great experience. I was totally ignored as soon as I walked in and I had to go up to the counter myself just to ask for a glass of wine. If I'd been with a group I’m pretty sure things would’ve been different. It was the only wine shop near where I was staying, and I actually looked it up before my trip and reviews were very good so I was a bit disappointed. The wine was fine, but the service not really. Nestled in the heart of Almaty, Hotel Kazakhstan is a charming and laid-back destination that offers a delightful blend of comfort and convenience. Just a short stroll from notable attractions like the Geology Museum and Colibri, this hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the vibrant city. Guests can indulge in modern European cuisine at one of its three restaurants or opt for 24-hour room service to enjoy meals in their cozy accommodations.
Excellent choice for a stay in Almaty. The location is convenient, near some nice restaurants and the cable car. The lobby area is fancy and the hotel staff are very friendly. The breakfast is excellent, probably the best we had in our 3 weeks in Central Asia. We tried to book again for our return to Almaty but unfortunately had to cancel because of a change of plans due to illness. They very kindly agreed to cancel the booking with a full refund, which they did not have to do. We are very grateful for your help and will stay again when we next visit Almaty. Thank you!

Iconic building in a strategic part of Almaty. The hotel has seen better days, but they have just started renovating the lobby and will eventually need to update the rooms as well. That said, the building itself is impressive, and the views from the upper floors are outstanding. The breakfast buffet is very good and starts at 6 a.m. It’s a great place to spend a couple of nights and soak in some history, with plenty of good restaurants close by.

I’ve stayed at KZ Hotel twice—first in winter, then in autumn—and I always enjoy it. I preferred my room on the second visit; it felt more comfortable. The hotel is near the city, has a charming historic vibe, and is definitely a must-try. The only downside is the room lighting—it’s quite dim, with very little source of light, so it can feel a bit dark at night. Other than that, the rooms are cozy, the staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is really relaxing.

The hotel is truly massive. Lots of guests coming and going all the time. The rooms are a bit outdated. Some rooms didn't even have AC. The breakfast was very nice. Lots of options and it goes from 7am till 11am. The check out time is also pretty late at 12pm, which convenient. On the downside - apart from some fancy (read exoensive) restaurants this hotel has no facilities. There was no gym, no spa/sauna, and no covered swimming pool. The lobby area is extremely cramped with bags and waiting people all the time. It was a nice stay overall. PS: there was a very helpful young man at the reception (Arybek, I hope I spelled his name correctly) who helped me to change the room after I found out they had no AC in the room I was originally allocated. Thank you, mate!

Great mountain view from the room, spacious and comfortable. However, the bathroom had some water pooling. Reception staff were helpful, but cleaning took almost an hour late. The maid seemed annoyed and gave me very unfriendly look. (21st floor, Oct 27 2025)

Historic Hotel but Very Outdated I booked this hotel mainly because of its reputation as an iconic Soviet-era property. I stayed for 5 nights and even had to change rooms twice. While I appreciate its history, the overall experience left a lot to be desired. The rooms are very old-fashioned, with worn-out furniture and bathrooms that feel decades behind. Some floors are under renovation, which shows the hotel is trying to improve, but much of it still looks like it hasn’t changed in 20+ years. WiFi is weak and unreliable. Breakfast is average and could definitely be better, though the seating area with a glass ceiling is a nice touch. Room service food tasted good, but service was slow and they only accept cash for in-room dining, which was inconvenient. If you’re looking to capture a bit of classic history, this hotel might interest you. But if you value comfort, modern facilities, and efficiency, I would not recommend staying here again.

A 4-star in name only: I stayed at the Kazakhstan Hotel in Almaty, booking a superior room in what is advertised as a 4-star hotel. The price was far from modest, but the experience was a string of disappointments. - Neglected rooms: dated furniture, stained carpet, cracked tiles, and a shower that looked like it hadn’t been updated in decades. The air vent was visibly dirty, and the walls showed clear signs of wear. - Questionable cleanliness: sheets lacked freshness, the bathroom felt unhygienic, and details like dirty electrical outlets and damaged surfaces were hard to ignore. - Unfriendly and unprepared staff: not only did they avoid smiling and seemed bothered by any request, but they didn’t speak English. Every interaction felt like they were doing me a favor, not providing a service. - Disappointing breakfast: the buffet was a parade of poorly presented dishes. A spinach and cheese soup with a questionable texture, an omelette sliced in a way that defied logic, a bowl labeled “Rice” that contained… chicken nuggets. And the most surreal moment: after previous guests had wiped out the Nutella, I asked if they had more. They brought me a mysterious brown spread called “bool.” Now, replacing Nutella with “bool” is almost a crime against breakfast. - Unstable Wi-Fi: even checking emails was a challenge. In short, the Kazakhstan Hotel relies on its central location and historic name, but offers nothing that justifies the price or the stars. If you're looking for comfort, cleanliness, and basic professionalism, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere.
Stefano Z — Google review
The most unliveable room I’ve ever stayed for years - maybe only four or five outlets in the entire room and none near the bed. When I tried to boil the water the outlet that’s connected to the boiler also dyfunctioned and the boiler just kept boiling. Hairdryer only works thirty seconds and then it stops, so it took ages for the hair to dry properly. The facade is also under construction so every time you’re back to the hotel you’re greeted with not warm faces but smelly fumes which I’m not sure is even legal. The only upside is the friendly service from the lobby male staff who takes luggage. The others who did the check in and check out are as indifferent as you can imagine. If you’re rly into the architecture u can simply come and take pictures, don’t waste on even one night here

For an eatery of this caliber, the food, service, and prices are outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed our soups and crepes. If you're in the mood for something more substantial, the menu offers a variety of fried noodles and sizzler plates. Alternatively, if you're particularly hungry, you can opt for one of the sets.

The price is good and food wasn't bad at all. I liked it. It's pretty busy. I'm giving 3 out 5 stars because it's too crowded and hard to get your order or make an order. Other than that, the black tea with milk which was on my order wasn't satisfying 😑. I loved lagman and pancakes

One thing I liked here is that they are providing a substantial quantity of food for good price. The language was an issue there, even the menu provided was in their language, but we have Google Lens!

I asked for the highest spice level and it was still mild but I did live in western China for 3 years and I like my food really hot. It was affordable, and the service was quick. For an added bonus there was a server that spoke a little English. I've only lived here 2 weeks and my Russian is still too basic for ordering food.

Auyl is a captivating restaurant in Almaty that offers an immersive experience with its decor and culinary creations. The dishes, cooked over open fire and in tandoor, bring an authentic prairie-steppe touch to the menu. Visitors can savor simmered lamb ribs with white cheese and date sauce while enjoying views of the Ile Alatau landscapes. Guests praise the amazing atmosphere, delicious traditional food with modern twists, and outstanding service.
Such a vibe! The atmosphere was incredible—modern Kazakh seating blended beautifully with traditional decor, creating a truly authentic vibe. We absolutely loved every moment of it! As someone who grew up in Kazakhstan, it was special to share this place with my husband and two kids visiting from the U.S. Honestly, we could have eaten and then just taken a cozy nap right there—it was that welcoming. The music was magical—enchanting and perfectly suited to the ambiance of the restaurant. The staff were attentive, friendly, and spoke great English, which made it easy to understand the dishes and their origins. The food was outstanding! We started with the green salad and tomato salad, then moved on to dumplings, both kinds of noodles, and kebabs—lamb and beef. The Uzbek pilaf was a highlight, and we paired it all with a local Kazakh beer specially made for this restaurant. We ended the meal with a pot of green tea. Hands down, this is our favorite restaurant in Almaty so far. The authenticity and warmth really stood out. We’ll definitely be back! And loved that my kids were able to swing under the yurt like tent outside.

Amazing authentic flavors. Local takes on cuisine. Modern twists in cocktails. Great service. Amazing location and ambience. Open kitchen. Table and chair or floor seating available inside. Outdoor seating also available. Reservations recommended (can text on what’s app …if foreigner) everything was perfect. The most memorable meal of my Central Asia trip. Don’t miss this restaurant. It is really special. The staff are very attentive and helpful with and dietary concerns. Many options are special and unique. Everything was tasty, healthy, and carefully put together with attention to detail! So delicious.

I really loved this place. The interior is beautiful—warm, earthy, and thoughtfully designed with traditional Kazakh elements. It’s cozy but still feels a bit special, like somewhere you’d want to take friends or family visiting from abroad. Each little detail is thought out. The service was honestly one of the highlights. Everyone was so kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell they care about creating a good experience without being too formal. Overall, it felt like a perfect mix of tradition, comfort, and hospitality. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town

Auyl truly lives up to being one of the world’s best eateries! The service was top-notch from start to finish. We ordered the steak, noodles, and chicken tikka, and were pleasantly surprised with complimentary baursak as a starter and kumis for dessert. The noodles were handmade and delightfully chewy, while the steak and chicken had a rich, smoky flavor. The ambience felt both homey and aesthetically pleasing, and the views were beautiful. It’s also very easy to get to, with taxis able to drop you right at the entrance. A must visit in Almaty.

Thank you to Munira who was our waitress; she was very friendly and attentive; she gave wonderful recommendations. We had grilled trout which was well-cooked and the fish is soft and tender and also dumplings in chicken broth- the chicken broth is clean and the dumplings are delicious. We also had the desserts- which is a great way to end the meal . The restaurant has open kitchen so we can observed the chefs cooked the neo-nomadic cuisines

Very cool experience in this restaurant! Greeted with friendly and attentive staff, inside you’ll immerse yourself in a very unique set up and decorations. I sat on the round table where you have to sit on the ground, and you’ll get to see a nice view of the mountains from here. We tried the fried bread, tea, dungan noodles, tandoor chicken, dumplings, horse cheek, alma apple dessert and honey cake. Everything is good, I especially loved the horse cheeks as it was super tender and well seasoned. I only found that the dungan noodles with quail on a saltier side for its soup.

Such a nice café especially situated next to the wide pedestrian way where the shadow of the trees are covering and a smooth wind blows that will cool the hot days of summer. The staff is smiling whic is such a rare thing to see here in any café or restaurant. Their food are really good or I can say it is much better than many alike places. Prices are ok. Service quite fast but compared to here ofcourse. I don't think there is anyone that speaks English this is another minus (-). Only thing I can criticize is that they do not let you smoke in the open area. That is so bad. If you are a smooker you got to leave café and come back. So no way to enjoy your cigar or cigarette while you drink your beverages. So bad. Moreover, i have been here second time in winter and it took almost 20 minutes to bring simple croissant. Please ask how long it takes to bring your food before you order.
Onur G — Google review
Edit- visited the second day i.e. on 20/9 and was even more disappointed with the service. Slow and quite messy to be honest. Ordered a buckwheat porridge which was listed on the menu and says "with strawberries and mint". It was served to me without either. Sent it back and what I got was one measly FROZEN strawberry and a sprig of mint. See video and photos. Honestly a very disappointing experience. Food may be good but service leaves a lot to be desired. Cafe located in a quiet and leafy part of the city. They have nice outdoor covered seating as well which was perfect for the pleasant sunny day that I had visited. I wanted a coffee but then was lured by the expansive menu too. Ordered a healthy bowl with spinach leaves, avocado, quinoa and salmon. Everything tasted fresh and spiked with a drizzle of olive oil. Their coffee was good too with the smaller size serving being good enough. The service can be a bit problematic with limited english language and I had to remind them to be served. But overall, the coffee helped win me over. Total cost 5555 KZT.

Some of the cakes are awful. Not just me we are 4 person agreed that the cake napoleon and cholate one are not even worth to say a food they are garbage. Be careful not to order cakes names are napoleon and choclate. Of course we had to pay the cakes which we didn't eat. They insisted on the date that it came the same day. My husband and I used to visit the Gogol restaurant weekly before we moved close to Mega Center. Unfortunately the service at Mega isn't as good as the Gogol one and there are some pretty rude waiters here! The food is fine though I agree with another reviewer that some savoury dishes are disgustingly sweet -- other restaurants have the same problem . Anyway, the only reason I go to the Mega restaurant is because Gogol is too far.

Nice indian restaurant in Almaty. This is the best one out of three Indian restaurants which I have tried. I went there for a dinner. The place was empty we were the only customers over there. (Translated by Google) We just arrived from Almaty. The family went to Chimbulak. First the pros. Convenient location relative to the proximity of the ski slopes. The hotel is clean. Now the cons. The hotel undoubtedly previously shone with the luxury of its interiors. But that was a long time ago! Double rooms only. Further only additional space. Moreover, this is just an extra bed, although the room had two sofas that did not fold out and were impossible to fit on. Accordingly, having put in an extra bed, it was difficult to move. The linen is clean, but very old. In this case, the change is every two days. Which is good. Towels have also been in use for a long time. The rooms are heated with air conditioning. At the same time, it makes such noise that it is impossible to sleep under it. Turned it off. It's cold by morning. The temperature in the room does not rise above 20 degrees while it is turned on. We found ourselves in cold weather. It was not comfortable. The floor in the bathroom is not heated, and there is no other source of heat there. The drain did not work either in trouble or in the sink. Well, breakfast. The hotel does not have its own restaurant. But breakfast is prepared. And delivered to your rooms. Breakfast, 3 sets. In my opinion it's not too bad. We had enough. But we are not food specialists. It was a beautiful hotel. Improvements are now required. I won't go again.

One of the best restaurants I have visited in Almaty. The service was great, with attentive and welcoming staff. A group of three, we ordered a few dishes to share - an appetizer tray, grilled beef with vegetable, and moussaka. A rather newly opened Restaurant by ABR and its true to company characteristics: good ambience, creative dishes, friendly service. We had some delicious food, tasty wine and good conversations. The vibe is fantastic and the staff was very knowledgable about the alcohol offerings and dishes. In my personal opinion it was a little bit too dark inside but maybe it was due to the location of the table. Would go again.

Modern elegance - this Greek dining place delights with an expansive, airy ambiance. Its fancy interior marries tradition with contemporary flair, inviting guests into a world where every detail, from the tantalizing aroma of authentic Greek cuisine to the curated selection of special cocktails, speaks of sophistication. The menu, a testament to the chef's innovative approach, offers a fresh, modern take on Greek classics, employing authentic ingredients to enchant the palate. However, vegetarians might find the selection limited, a minor caveat in an otherwise exquisite culinary journey.

Extremely overpriced restaurant. Food has nothing to do with Greek food. The owner even went to Greece once? Even Gyros they can not prepare right. 🤦‍♂️

Sova Coffee & Bar is a charming spot with a prime location and beautiful interior. The coffee and cuisine are top-notch, although some have noted that the service could be more welcoming. Despite the lovely atmosphere, there have been comments about the lack of payment options and the absence of menu photographs for easier ordering. However, overall it's considered a pleasant place to enjoy delicious coffee and steak for a quick break.

(Translated by Google) Good location, the interior is beautiful, the coffee and cuisine are excellent, but the service is weak: the waiter with a sour face, as if they came to his home without an invitation))) despite the Kaspi QR sticker on the door, this payment method is not available, according to the waiter “when he works , when - no" 🤷🤦 Well, it would be advisable to make a menu with photographs, it’s convenient and easy (so as not to explain to clients what a country or English breakfast looks like every time). But overall it's a good place, pleasant.

Wanderlust boutique hostel is a stylish and affordable accommodation option in Almaty, offering a unique design that blends modern aesthetics with local Kazakh elements. Situated near bustling markets and eateries, the hostel provides an authentic experience of the city. Guests can expect cleanliness, good service, and a cozy atmosphere. The central location makes it convenient for exploring the city. The private rooms are spacious, and guests have access to a well-equipped kitchen for meals.
One of the best hostels I've come across. I initially planned on staying just one night but ended up staying nine nights! It's very comfortable with all the facilities including a well equipped kitched. There are markets, cafe and restaurants nearby. It's around a couple of km. from the central area but calm and peaceful.
Bharat B — Google review
Disappointed with the room - had poor nights sleep: AC was old, made lots of noise and didn’t cool the room. The blinds were terrible and did nothing to stop the light coming through in the morning at 5am! The attic room had a partition not a wall, there was a gap at the top meaning all the noise from downstairs easily came into our room. Expensive compared to other hostels in area. Not enough wash facilities for number of guests. Friendly and helpful staff and good common areas.
Matthew — Google review
I booked private room in this hostel. Overall stay was not good. The most annoying thing which I felt was that room is next to dinning area where guest makes noise and it disturbed me. I was not able to sleep because of that. My check in time was 2 pm but I reached early around 10 am. But forget about early check in. They gave me room around 3 pm. It was so annoying. They have mentioned air conditioning in all rooms but in my private room there was no AC. Last point, after cooking I had clean my all the used utensils but while checking out staff asked me to clean the utensils she thought I did not clean it. Location is good. There is near by grocery store and bus stands.
Mohit A — Google review
Beautiful hostel , private rooms are spacious. One can have their meals downstairs infront of the kitchen ( kettle , oven, stove , utensils , water all available in kitchen) . 2 Washrooms are available in all , 1 on each floor so it gets crowded a bit during peak tourist seasons. However otherwise during off seasons the hostel ambience is just so peaceful and satisfying. We saw the lawn turning from all snowy to green during March this year . It felt so homely and complete.
Sinthia P — Google review
Very mediocre hostel Plus: location, roomy kitchen and living area...kinda clean though could be better, the cat. Negative: no hospitality at all, the staff consisting of 2 guys do the bare minimum. Give you sheets thats it. They are mostly gaming or sleeping, not keeping the place nice and tidy. No AC on 8 bed dorm so i moved to the 10 dorm. Way to small for 10 beds. Also just 1 bathroom for like 20+ beds. Paying at checkin was mandatory, I payed for nights however after 1 night i wanted to leave, so wanted to checkout at 7am. Nobody at the reception. Seemed that the boys were still sleeping in my dorm so I had to wake them up. I DIDNT GET THE 2ND REFUNDED. The guy did text the owner however i had to approach him two times actively what the deal was. He didnt approach me, he was just sitting in the living room on his phone. Terms are to say the evening in advance, whats the difference with 7am? Owner is obviously not there to talk too. Also the vibe was weird. Wouldn't recommend.
H. K — Google review
Average hostel. It was clean and kitchen was well equipped and common areas were ok. Because of how it had been converted from a house sound proofing was not great with gaps in the walls. Had 3 bathrooms but 1 was in a dorm so there was aways waiting times. If it had better bathroom families I would recommend it higher. Preferred their sister hostel as it had better facilities and generally was more comfortable.
Karl L — Google review
Hostel is maintained well, one has to take off shoes outside, but it is good to maintain cleanliness. Very strict about early check-in, room was vacant still we were not allowed, were demanding half day room rent, it's a standard practice that room can be allotted at least 2 hours prior. Location is very far from city center, one has to change buses and walk to reach.
Ankush J — Google review
If you are obsessed with cleanliness and good service, then this place is definitely worth your attention! Very cozy and atmospheric place, which pleases with its location, the hostel is located in the city center. the staff is very polite, always happy to help, quickly respond to requests. I was pleased with a courtyard full of trees where you can relax and unwind. this place will change your attitude towards hostels! the best price-quality ratio, reality met the most inflated expectations!

Bowler Coffee Roasters is a delightful mobile café that brings the essence of freshly brewed coffee right to the streets of Almaty. Housed in a charming vintage camper, this unique spot offers an inviting atmosphere filled with the rich aroma of specialty coffee beans. Founded by Mathijs Antoon Olij, who developed his passion for coffee culture during his teenage years in Italy, Bowler adds a distinctive Dutch twist to Almaty's vibrant coffee scene.
Got the barista to recommend some coffee and had the cold sweet milk with espresso and orange peel. It was very refreshing and was slightly sweet. Great recommendation!

Nice view of the market. I just don’t like the coffee. Ordered Cafe Olandese but its very sour for me. Tried adding some sugar but I wasn’t able to finish even half of it. Staff are accommodating though. Cash and card are available as payment method.
Hungry J — Google review
Bowler Coffee Roasters – Almaty The location is definitely a highlight — the view over the bazar is amazing and worth seeing. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end for me. The coffee is overpriced compared to other quality roasters in Almaty, and no, it’s not the best coffee of my life. My espresso was quite sour — maybe due to a very specific blend — but that’s not my main issue. What matters most to me is service, and sadly, it was lacking. The staff felt distant and not particularly welcoming. They messed up our order as well as the order for the table next to us, despite there being only six customers in the café. Overall, the vibe just wasn’t there. Great view, but if you’re looking for good coffee and friendly service, I can’t honestly recommend this place.

The best coffee I have had across Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan during my week there. Located in Green Bazaar which itself is a bustling market, they served me some excellent coffee. Staffed by two young lads who spoke good english, the place left me impressed. They have a wide variety of coffee's available. I first had a cappuccino to see how it tastes and could not resist going for another round. Two coffee's cost me 4000 KZT and it was worth every tenge paid. Bowled me over!

The waiters are great, serve quickly, speak clearly, have correct diction, and are not pushy. The live music is pleasant and most importantly not loud. But the menu is limited, fortunately I didn’t want to eat, but I could have had something to eat, but there was nothing I wanted to order, the prices were high. I ordered for chicken with potatoes from the "Menu in english" that the manager asked us to look up from the QR code. The waitress took the order. Dint say anything. 20 minutes later came back with something totally different ..chicken with some salad. And left before I could even notice. I called her and asked her nicely about the potatoes. And the photo on the menu. She looked confused and went back. Someone else came back and said they don't have potatoes. Long story after this. It took 5 staff, 20 more minutes, very low desire for communication from them to tell me there are no potatoes. It's not a language problem coz there is google translate and wifi. It's a weird service problem where no one wants to admit a mistake and fix it by saying, "we don't have this", "we can replace it with something else", "we apologize" .... none of that. At the end they only shoved some artifical mash on my plate. And one decent young guy came out to explain. They ran out. After 30 mins of the food arriving and going cold. For a restaurant that premium, with that many resources and staff... very shady service.

It is nice to see a decent burger joint in Almaty, as many of them are far from perfect. The interior has a solid American diner vibe throughout and looks great. They also have a wide variety of canned beverages, including craft brews. The menu offers a good amount of different burgers and sides. I think it would be much better if they asked how you want patty in your burger done, as you have to specify that yourself. I'm not sure who Anton is, but the burger bearing his name is pretty good. I never thought I'd like bell pepper in my burger, but it worked out great. The signature Ketchup 2.0 packs very vibrant flavors and overall is a great burger. However, I think they put way too much sauce in it. Halfway in, I had a massive puddle of sauce on my plate, and the burger itself begun turning into a mushy mess. All ingredients are nice and tasty, so I personally don't see a reason to drown everything in sauce. The portions are generous if you ask me. I'm glad we got only one portion of fries to share. I think that their MiniBoss burger with fries is a perfectly sized meal for me. Not everything was perfect, but generally, we enjoyed our meal, and I'm most likely will be coming back for the horsemeat burger.
