If you are looking for a friendly bar to have a relaxing evening, keep walking. We approached this venue expecting a great night out. Instead, we were greeted by two unfriendly young men at the door who looked like they were auditioning for a secret agent role rather than working hospitality. No greeting, no communication, just hushed words exchanged in another language, a walkie-talkie, and the surreal instruction to us to “look into the camera.” Moments later, a curt hand gesture dismissed us entirely, without a word of explanation. They refused to talk to us or engage further. The complete absence of English made the experience, the lack of communication and the dismissive hand gestures were not just confusing but frankly unwelcoming. It felt like trying to enter a nuclear bunker. We only wish we had read the other public reviews beforehand that echo the same experiences. To the management of Barmaglot: if you are going to post your venue on public platforms and describe it as welcoming or upscale, your door policy should be made transparently available. Guests deserve to know what to expect. If there’s a selective entry process, say this clearly and upfront. To fellow travellers and locals alike: there are far better venues in Almaty. Ones that won’t judge you at the door, speak in code or wave you away without a word. We don’t support discrimination, covert or otherwise and we suggest you do not either.

Extremely overpriced bar with super-arrogant staff and bar tenders. Expensive cocktails were not tasty at all - zero alcohol and 90% ice. When we told the bar tender not to put more ice and add cocktail instead, he just laughed at us and threw a few extra cubes of ice in our glasses. When we wanted to sit at the table, the waiter told us we had to pay $200 deposit (minimum spend). The only good thing was the DJ 👏👏👏

It was okay. I'd give the food three stars but then the service was great so I bumped the overall rating up to four stars. We went with a couple friends from work. One of us had sushi, it tasted like any generic sushi and pizza joint sushi would, one had salmon it was okay, a little over cooked for salmon, but I think that's a think here in Kazakhstan because I've noticed a pattern at restaurants, one had the dorado, it was good, and I had the shrimp salad, it was probably the best out of our four dishes and that's not saying a lot because it could have been better. There were pros and cons. It had a cranberry sauce with a bite to it I really loved and the shrimp were perfect, but they put way too much dressing on the whole thing, I couldn't taste the vegetables at all. You know when you give a little kid the dressing bottle and they pour half of it on their salad before you notice? That's what it felt like while I was eating the shrimp salad. The flavor was great!! There was just too much of it! I couldn't even finish it. I gave the last quarter of my salad to my husband. My salad!! I couldn't finish a salad!!! So, if you're one of those people that actually likes salad or, heaven forbid, you're on a diet, I can recommend their shrimp salad but ask them to use half the normal amount of dressing.

Very nice place with outside and inside tables. The bartenders know what they are doing. If asked they prepare a customized things. I strongly recommend to try their signature drinks and some home made shots. We haven't tried a food there but I saw several plates passing by and they look very tasty!

We had gone on Thursday, 3rd October 24 at around 7 PM and asked the waiters there if we need a reservation to come at 10 PM. Two waiters and both said no. At 10 PM we went to the bar and 2 bouncers were standing. They asked us if we have reservation, we said no. They said you can't enter. When we told them that we had come at 7 and asked, your people said that on Thursday no reservation is required. Then the bouncers asked us for 10000 Tenge to enter. We refused and asked for the Manager. After lots of insistence he went and then two gentleman came out. One of them said that he's the Manager. I told him the story and then he was said the bouncers are right. I could smell something is fishy. He wasn't the manager. The second person was a local Kazak who wanted to help, but the bouncers would ask him not to interfere. I then made it a point to address only to that gentleman. He then spoke to the bouncers asking them why they were not allowing us. He was such a nice human being that he requested us to come inside and the bouncers repented. This had hurt our ego, but because this second gentleman was so nice to us, we went in, but immediately came out. Then we took the photos of the two crooks who wanted a bribe and am posting them. Hope the management will see what's happening and how they are loosing business because of these scoundrels. My views......The power to refuse entry should be withdraw from these unscrupulous bouncers and every refusal should be sanctioned by the Manager. Forgot to add that when asked for their names, one of the said Ibrahim (not sure if that's the correct name)

Staff very rude and they asked us to scan face and denied entry despite the bar being empty. Did not even make an effort to accommodate, we told they we came so far by taxi just for their bar. Disappointed.

A bar for beer lovers. The range of drinks is wide, for every taste. Delicious dishes, which is important, they serve food quite quickly. The interior is unique, the service is excellent. The waiters serve promptly. There is a quiet hall, a noisy one (with music) and a summer terrace.

One of the best bars in Almaty city center, near Kazakhstan Hotel. Two things are distinguishing this place from others: 1. Live music band. Very good performance and voice of singers. They have Kazakh, English and Russian songs. 2. Huge selection of draught (15 options) and bottled beer from around the world (more than 70 options). The bottled beer can be seen and chosen from multiple fridges so you can read about it. Location is perfect. Beer is perfect. Visit it and check yourself.

One of the best steaks we tried during our trip in Almaty

Not great not terrible, especially considering its prices. For some hefty pay, you can have a proper Guinness here alongside some food. Food is the problematic part. Fish and chips come with real chips, not fries, which is just wrong on so many levels… They did not even taste good. I ordered extra fries just to have fries with my fish and those were bland as well, and very few for the extra few bucks. Fish itself was okay, but I had much better elsewhere in the city. If they at least used fries with fish and chips it would be an automatic five because service and atmosphere are top notch.

I walked up to Hotel Kazakhstan when I saw this pub and went in for a pint. A great, very typical British pub. I had an Estrella Damm and looked through the menu. The bartender told me to try the Indian and Pakistani food because the pub is owned by a Pakistani, and the food is supposed to be very good. I’ll try it next week.

The staff was too distracted and actually ran from my table in the middle of taking my order to cater to a rowdy group of men, who the server clearly knew. Variable European-level cuisine with some decent Indian elements. A few good sorts of beer, including Guinness. Atmospheric and comfortable - the whole concept of Shakespeare as the genus loci is quite nice and thoroughly done. The stuff are friendly and helpful (and also speak good English!). This pub is for those missing Europe and good service - consequently, there are practically never any locals. It was a great luck to find this place in Almaty. It was our last night in Almaty & it was ruined because of the hostess (Name: Mepyept) She was rude and a racist! We tried to book a table - but we were told that they don't take reservation. However, when we reached she told us tables need reservation. When we showed her a message she agreed to give us a table inside for a minimum billing which we agreed upon... She then just annoyed us further Even though the food and ambience is good - I highly recommend not to visit!!

The soup was bomb. Actually, all food was bomb, but the fish they included with the soup was salmon. Bomb. Nice ambiance. I got two waters, tea, salad, and three main dishes for $39. This is a racist place. I am from India, me & my friends walked in there and they denied the entry. Next day we reserved the table and paid them 80,000 tenge and they firstly refused to allow us to enter. Then somehow our local guide requested and they gave us entry saying that they are providing us VVIp zone and we can enjoy everything there including dance floor. surprisingly they technically hacked us in a small zone from where we can only see people dancing but we were not allowed to leave that small space. We felt like trapped and the staff were so rude that they were ready to fight over this issue. I request every Indian citizen to not to go and spend your hard earned money on these racist people

This place is a disgrace and should be held accountable for the appalling behavior of its staff and management. The club practices blatant racism—staff openly mock your ethnicity and appearance with zero shame or consequences. They manipulate menu prices depending on where you’re from, forging bills and overcharging based on nationality. The management not only allows this behavior but actively engages in intimidation and verbal abuse, and have even tried to provoke physical altercations. This establishment is toxic, discriminatory, and utterly unacceptable in any society that values human dignity. Avoid at all costs and report them to local authorities or human rights bodies if you witness or experience similar treatment.

I was extremely disturbed to witness staff at this establishment altering food prices based on a customer’s ethnicity and ridiculing individuals based on their nationality. Such discriminatory behavior is not only unethical but also deeply offensive. No one should be treated differently or made to feel unwelcome because of where they come from or how they look. This kind of conduct reflects a serious failure in both staff training and managerial oversight.

We paid a very high amount to enter as we were told its the best bar in Almaty, nothing inside lived up to the expectations and money we paid. Food was very poor quality, music was average. For a Friday night, the vibe and energy was bland despite the bar having 2 crowd movers on stage trying to get energy up. I’ve drank in many ‘locals’ bars and pubs all over the world. I’m used to sometimes getting the cold shoulder. This place was next level. I walked out the door before I even had a chance to be served, which I doubt would have happened. The only word the barmaid managed to say was ‘NO!’ when I asked if a table was free. It wasn’t. She was using a four seat table to charge her phone. No other seats were free and she didn’t ask me if I’d like a drink. Weird atmosphere. We left.

The beef medallions in mushroom sauce was delicious. As was the chocolate ice cream for desert. The drinks were a let down - the wine was a very small pour and the mojito pretty sure didn’t have any alcohol even though I made sure to order one with Bacardi. Drinks aside, this place is great. One the pricey side but that’s okay. The non-smoking basement was very secluded and the atmosphere was outstanding.

I had the duck spring rolls, the horse steak with mashed potatoes and a mulled wine(Glühwein). Everything was delicious. The service was friendly and prompt. The decor was in need of some brightening up. Very dated.

They have 2 other indoor sites available and one more dine-in in a basement. My family loves this place, we go there a lot. They have great customer service, everyone is so friendly and nice to you. We had the most incredible experience at Vista, Ritz Carlton in Almaty. My sisters and I organized from Europe a surprise dinner for our parents, and the entire team, especially Tomiris and Madina, went above and beyond. Despite the time differences, they were always in touch and processed our requests immediately, making changes according to our wishes. Our parents were treated to a spectacular view, delicious food and first-class service. Their needs were always met with care and attention. We'll definitely return whenever we're in Kazakhstan or whenever our parents have a special celebration. Thank you for making the evening unforgettable!

Nuala is a hip restaurant with a beautiful menu, situated in a setting with medium/high level music and champagne on every table. The waiters are smart and uniformed, with small shoulder pouches equipped with whatever they need to make the clients happy. The space has both indoor and outdoor seating. The menus comprise ample seafood and meat selections in an easy-to-read two column format in both English and Russian on the obverse. The whole seabass with dressed greens is one of the best I’ve tasted in Central Asia, perfectly cooked on both visits I came with the perfect amount of fat and lean balanced in proportion. The dressed greens had a hint of lemon to provide enough contrast and not steal the show from the fish. Pastas are great — congolese (aka clams) and king crab were sweet and perfectly accompanied with a light butter sauce and homemade noodles, though my nitpick is that the noodles were a bit entangled and difficult to separate and eat. Wine is served in the proper glassware and even decanted on some occasions. Would definitely return. One of the best restaurants in Almaty.

The indoor dining area is equally striking, with an elegant art deco design that clearly had a lot of effort poured into it. FOOD: The menu showcases high-quality seafood, sourced from Europe and Russia (notably the scallops), alongside some meat options. We sampled several small plates to get a taste of the range. The two Gillardeau oysters were a standout—meaty, fresh, with a subtle briny and sweet flavor, perfectly detached from their shells. The popcorn shrimp were a hit, ordered multiple times for their soft, juicy flesh and crisp coating, lightly dressed with a mayo-based sauce—simple yet consistently delicious. The smoked salmon pâté had a pleasant, creamy texture, though softer bread would’ve been better for spreading. The grilled octopus was tender but slightly chewy and lacked the smoky, grilled flavor we craved. The scallop carpaccio impressed with its sweet, fresh, and delicate texture. However, the vegetable dishes fell flat: the tonnato peppers had barely a trace of sauce, leaving the pepper to dominate, while the cabbage, though properly cooked and soft, blended too much with its creamy sauce, lacking a distinct flavor punch. A pleasant addition was the ice cream they offer as a complimentary treat at the end of the meal. SERVICE: We visited twice, and the first experience was exceptional, thanks to our waiter Anton, a true professional who made us feel cared for with every step. The second visit, however, was lackluster, with service that felt hit-or-miss depending on the staff. VERDICT: Nuala left us with fond memories, thanks to its quality food and inviting atmosphere. Beautiful interiors. We had an initial struggle as we are English speakers but they found a waiter who could communicate with us promptly. It was also so easy to reserve with them via WhatsApp. Everything we tasted was so tender, delicious, and seasoned well, with the beef stracciatella and chicken course as standouts. They even gave us complimentary ice cream which is their current collab with La Perla.

Nuala is a great restaurant. The waiters are polite, courteous, and attentive, and the food is terrific. The quality is of a high European standard and reasonably priced for what you get. We'll be back and recommend that anyone visiting Kazakhstan or living in Almaty should visit at least once.

I just had the worse ever restaurant experience in Almaty, I was with my friends and the waitress was sooo mean and rude, we were talking about beshparmak, and she half heard the conversation saying to us even i didn’t asked her, that we don’t serve the beshparmak. Very strange situations in this place. After having ordered in the restaurant (on a Wednesday afternoon), the barman thought I looked young so decided to tell the waitress I was too young. They then came to tell me about the 21+ policy (before checking my passport, while I’m obviously older than that!). After checking my passport the barman said that he will get “a lemonade for the kid”, even though we ordered a beer. I do look young, but obviously older than 21. In the end they did bring beer, but even after having showed my passport they obviously continued discussing me. Overall, the food wasn’t good as well. The steak was mainly fat and the sides were half portions. I couldn’t enjoy at all because I was irritated by the unfriendly service all night. I don’t understand such a treatment to clients that spend pretty much money. Never coming back here. It was also very cold and the waitress was intensively flirting with the barman who was obviously 20 years older. In short, everything was weird and not nice at all. We were talking about how dissapointes we were all night.

German sausages ought to be served with German sweet or neutral mustard. I do not recommend. Although the service is good.

You will also fünd open buffet of various fruits and desserts. They are all served hot in a spike that one kind waiter carries and visits all the table. They keep serving untill you say stop. All working personnel are friendly, smiling and caring. That is a big plus. They also bring whatever you order so fast compared to the 95% of other restaurants and cafes in the city. I think this is a place at least must be visited once. Good for family & friend unions. However there were things that i really did not like about here which i think must be changed immediately. One of them is that the desserts. They are definately not tasty. Taste section lost one point from here. Before and at the show, these fog machines pump alot of fog and you know it smells disturbing. You got to manage this out somehow. It is really hard to see the dancers just few meters away from you. Front tables for two person, both tables and sitting chairs are so uncomfortable. No space for the feet and chairs are like they wanna squeez you. It ia not a cheap restaurant. 20.000 tenge for one person for set menu that you can eat endlessly. And the worst thing was that we did not eat some leftovers and wanted to take them for our dog. But they did bot let us. So the leftovers are wasted. I do not apreciate it ever. And this is a big problem. I dont understand whay i can not get what i pay for? So long atory short , go at least once and tell us what you think.

Dancing show is one of th most attractive part in this restaurant, if you want to rock and roll this is a place. However, be aware and check the bill since it is normal here to be deceived, they like to count more expensive drinks. The buffet menue is very poor, churrasco as they promised is limited in choice mostly beef, salads are small. So this buffet doesn’t worth that money paid, like almost 45$ per person. Drinks are incredibly expensive, if in almost all restaurants whiskey is 50ml a portion here portion is 40ml for very expensive price. The restaurant is making money on show. They don't care about their reputation at all. I was very disappointed when after great evening I realized that I was deceived for about $30, such a durty trick. This place has much potential to be great but my experience was awful. I arrived during an unexplained crossover between lunch and dinner and this led to a series of very poor events which compounded each other, making the overall situation infuriating. For example, after just 3 meat visits in 15 minutes the kitchen closed. I’m sure this was an unusual scenario and expect on other occasions it would have been much better. The staff were pretty poor apart from a fabulous gentleman from Sierra Leone who salvaged an awful situation by his outstanding attention and calming manner.

I am conflicted about Kazakhstan. 2 out of 5 people on average are either rude or indifferent(in a bad way). And that is exactly the feeling this place exudes as well. It is as if you are asking for a favor from the bartender. While the beer was decent (they don't have local beers, only imported), the hospitality was not at all. You feel like an outsider. Not going again. Which is bad because the place itself has so much potential. For gods sake just be more welcoming as hosts!

We visited this restaurant on our first day of a 5D4N tour in Kazakhstan, and it was the perfect start to our trip. The food was excellent — we tried Chkmeruli (Georgian chicken in garlic sauce), Khinkali with beef, pork lula kebab, lamb ribs, homemade lagman, and even a pepperoni pizza. Everything was delicious, freshly prepared, and full of authentic flavor. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and the portions were generous. One of the best restaurants in Almaty. Found it better than the Navat restaurant too.They serve local cuisine as well as the neighboring cuisines as well. We tried many of their dishes and everything was on point. The ambience is wonderful and the service too. The food comes quick. We tried the Samsa, the manti, the lamb chops, dolma, the green salad, Shahslik, the Tashkent tea.I would definitely go back to this restaurant if ever I visited Almaty.

Sprawling space with live singers and fires to keep you warm. Wanted to try some local food before I leave. The reviews pulled me here and fairly good. The menu is vast with even Italian and Asian dishes available. I chose the lamb Syrne which is a stew like dish with potatoes and bell peppers. The meat was good and well cooked. I finished with a portion of chicken samsa which were served piping hot. Cost me around 6710 KZT. Servers speak limited English but are friendly though at times getting their attention can be a real task.

A friend in Almaty recommended this winery, so I stopped by their sales location in the city. Arba Wine is a Kazakh vineyard producing handcrafted wines from European grape varieties grown in the Assa Valley near Almaty. They also offer half-day tours to their vineyard, located about 60 km outside the city. I picked up a bottle of AK Arba Riesling and the Muskat Rosé Prosecco—excellent choices.

Kazakh wines produced from both restored Soviet-era vineyards, and some imported varietals. For about $6 you get a tasting of 4 reds and 4 whites. They gave us a through description of each one. Went to celebrate a friend getting a PhD, were rejected for being Indians at the door and not even let in. They didn't even try to hide their racism. We were a group of 6, well dressed and are in our 30s (not college kids). Either way, their loss. We ordered the steak, noodles, and chicken tikka, and were pleasantly surprised with complimentary baursak as a starter and kumis for dessert.
