Mexican restaurant
Nestled along the main street, just a stone's throw from the ferry and Green Expedition, El Picante Mexican Restaurant is a delightful gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. With its vibrant decor reflecting the lively essence of Mexican cuisine, this eatery offers not only mouthwatering dishes but also expertly crafted cocktails that are sure to please any palate. The welcoming atmosphere is complemented by a knowledgeable staff led by the charismatic owner, Jan, who brings his rich life experiences into every conversation.
I finally got here when they were open. First off, I was surprised that they only serve chicken or vegetarian dishes. No beef and no seafood. But, that turned out to be ok. I had Chicken enchiladas, and they were amazing, cheese sauce and a side of what looked like home made hot sauce. The dish came with a nice side of refried beans and rice. All in all, it was delicious, and I would order it again. It was nice to sit at the sidewalk tables with some ice cold bottles of Toña for happy hour. Service was top notch and very friendly. Not a huge menu, but what they serve is excellent. Highly recommend

I just want to say if you are ever in Moyogalpa, this is a must stop restaurant. I am so glad that we stopped by to experience what this place had to offer. First of all the food was amazing, it was so fresh and you could tell it was high quality! The atmosphere was very welcoming, with some water fountains, some nice music, beautiful natural lighting as well as some really impressive decor of live plants and neat local artwork. And of course last but not least, the customer service was absolutely phenomenal! John the owner was extremely kind, was willing to go out of his way to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. I could tell and feel from his presence that he truly cares about his customers and works hard to ensure we had an enjoyable experience. One of the big takeaways I will always remember was the sincere hospitality of John and the rest of the staff at El Picante. Like I said, if you are ever in Moyogalpa, this restaurant is a must stop! The food was so good, I forgot to take a picture of the food before I ate it, lol :P, A Must Stop for Sure!

I absolutely loved this spot and am glad we stopped in. The owner, John really makes this place come alive! He's such a kind man and has a beautiful restaurant with flowers you can tell he's been hand crafting for years. His cat, Tequila was so sweet and a great added addition. The food was perfect, I couldn't ask for anything more from start to finish. While on the island, I'd absolutely recommend stopping in here for the experience! Thanks for everything, John!!!
Caleb S — Google review
I was blown away by how beautiful this restaurant was inside with the lush greenery, it felt like walking into an oasis. I was greeted by the loveliest young lady and then the owner, both so genuinely kind and sweet. I was recommended the nachos and I loved the heat for the spice - eating my leftovers as I write this review! Come for the happy hour deals, stay for the ambiance and amazing hospitality! Thank-you, Jean (from Benecia)!
Allie H — Google review
Great place to eat, the resturant was very nice with lots of plants. The food was delicious and you can tell it was made with passion! We met the owner, John who is very friendly. You can see he really cares about what he does and loves meeting new people. All the best John!

My friends and I spent the day on Ometepe Island. While walking around the town we noticed El Picante and the interesting sign that the languages spoken inside were Spanish, English, French and Swahili. We decided to stay for food and were immediately greeted by the owner. He was funny, told interesting stories and was helpful with providing information about the ferry service and other recommendations for our trip. The food was excellent as well the service and atmosphere. I highly recommend stopping in here during your trip to Ometepe island and wish nothing but the best for Jean and the business.
Connor J — Google review
This is a must visit place while traveling in Ometepe. The owner is really welcoming, smiling guy. We became friends after spending some time in his restaurant, hope to come back one day and say hi to him again! Cocktails were amazing and in a good price, you also have happy hour in the evening (1$ local beer). Homemade meals prepared with love, you can choose spicy or not spicy toppings. Yummy!
Trippujemy — Google review
Best food in Moyogalpa in a relaxed setting. The owner is very friendly and always in for a chat. If you're craving some quesedillas or fajitas, don't hesitate and go to El Picante!

The Cornerhouse B&B in Moyogalpa, Ometepe is a highly recommended restaurant conveniently located near the ferry terminal. With a relaxed atmosphere and exceptionally friendly service, it offers fast and delicious food that is bursting with flavor. It's a must-visit spot for those looking for amazing smoothies, excellent coffee options, and healthy meal choices. The breakfast menu at The Cornerhouse B&B is particularly impressive, making it one of the best places on the island to start your day.
Ended up here when the ferry got delayed and I’m so glad I went! Breakfast was incredible and staff was lovely - they even helped me arrange support to take my luggage’s to ferry and were super welcoming and warm! Best breakfast I had during my trip to Nicaragua! Great portions too
Grace D — Google review
I didn't stay here but had lunch 3 times of my stay in Ometepe. Their smoothy wss nice and the Vegi burg was superb. They only open until 4pm which means only serve breakfast and lunch. They also closes on Sundays.
Joan C — Google review
Came here for lunch. The staff were very friendly and helpful and hospitable. However unfortunately the actual sandwich I had was not nice at all. The bread was old and the sandwich was cold. And on top of this it was really expensive.
Ameer A — Google review
Nice location near the ferry harbor. The sandwiches, coffee and cold chocolate are so delicious. Only cash but ATM is at the same street.
Mike N — Google review
I ordered a cappuccino the menu said 100 cordobas. I was charged 155 for vanilla and the cup to go. They should be telling people the extra costs when people order.
Amanda S — Google review
I didn’t stay here because I need AC. However I recommend their coffee shop. Getting a decent cup of coffee can be a challenge in Nicaragua since most places serve instant coffee. So I was happy to find this place. They also have a good selection of smoothies and I enjoyed their coconut cookies.
Kenneth H — Google review
Nice smoothies and eggs benedict. Coffee was OK but across the road at paradiso does much better
Issy B — Google review
One of the few places that you can get espresso type drinks in town and the staff was very friendly so we were here every morning of our trip for breakfast. The portions are huge so definitely come really hungry or split a plate with someone.

Restaurant
Nestled in a central location, Resturante Buon Appeetito Pizzeria And Grill is a delightful find for anyone craving authentic Italian cuisine. After exploring the culinary landscape of Central America, many travelers are pleasantly surprised by the quality of dishes here, rivaling even those found in Italy. The ravioli and penne Bolognese have garnered rave reviews for their fresh flavors and generous portions, making it hard to resist ordering seconds.
Excellent service. Our waiter was very helpful and informed us about the island and gave us recommendations. Food was good. My partner ate the ravioli which was yum and I went for the pepperoni pizza which was good too! Plus they have a terrace space on the 'road' which is always a bonus!
Elsie W — Google review
Ok place, not more. Pasta amatriciana was tomate sauce with chilli and well cooked. The picaña was over over cooked, veggies where ok. Not expensive but the youngster is not ready for work, he's very inefficient, so up to you guys.
Hans M — Google review
Ate here twice and both times it was delicious. The restaurant itself is very quaint and homely vibes - it’s lovely. The pizza and asado were great. Muchas gracias amigos :)
Laura X — Google review
Beware, the cocktails are just sirop with alcohol. We ordered 2 mojitos and something horrible came, made of a disgusting sirop that we couldn’t finish. No lime nor mint. To avoid any cocktail there because they make the same for other drinks.
Diogo ( — Google review
Bit of a wait for food considering we were the only people in the restaurant, but the ravioli tasted so fresh and homemade the wait was understandable. The nicest meal we had on the island and very reasonable prices, it’s a shame it’s not busier
Rosie M — Google review
Great place for a drink on the street in the evening. We didn’t eat food but it did look good. Great service and atmosphere.
Amie L — Google review
Huge tasty pizza! Not the cheapest and fastest dinner you can find but definitely worth it!!
Soley A — Google review
Having travelled through a large amount of central America I had given up on finding decent Italian food until I returned to Europe (After sampling a lot of Latin American food already). I have genuinely had worse Italian meals in Rome than here, the ravioli was sublime and I wanted a second plate it was that good (penne Bolognese). Very good portion size too, deserves to be way way busier than it was when I visited

Pizza restaurant
Chido's Pizza is a must-visit spot for pizza lovers seeking generous portions and delightful flavors. With their pizzas boasting an impressive amount of gooey cheese and a variety of toppings, including fresh ingredients like tomatoes and mushrooms, every bite is a cheesy delight. The friendly staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal place to unwind after a long day or even during unexpected rain showers.
If you’re craving a fatty American-style pizza, especially after a tiring volcano hike, this is the place to go! The pizza was really tasty, reasonably priced, and the staff were super friendly.
Karolina D — Google review
Absolute delicious pizza! 9/10 It’s very reasonably priced. Medium size is more than enough for 1 person. Had to eat the whole thing (because it was so good) and now I’m absolutely stuffed.
Noortje M — Google review
Look, I'm from Brooklyn, so it's hard to judge pizza from elsewhere, but this was a decent pizza with fresh ingredients. Fresh tomato slices, a lot of gooey cheese and I added black olives. The young lady serving was sweet and very professional. Add two Cerveza Victorias and Real Madrid on the TV, and it was a perfect afternoon
Joseph A — Google review
Came in here to shelter from a heavy downpour and so glad I did. The pizza was delicious, sooo much cheese and a really good amount of mushrooms too. Lots of toppings to choose from and different sizes too. There was also a great range of drinks to choose from, the seltzer was cheaper here than in the supermarket! Excellent value for tasty filling meal.
Rhiannon — Google review
The best pizza in town. The boubly crunchy dough with extra sauce and chewy cheese. Super cheap and very delicious. I highly recommend to anyone looking to enjoy a tasty pizza.
Robert S — Google review
I usually hate to give bad reviews but this could have been much better if they made a good pizza..even though the pizza was not what I ordered. I placed the order and paid 2 hours before I came to the restaurant and they got the order wrong. When I came to realize eating my second slice of a tasteless pizza that the order was wrong...I told them and they said sorry and I thought they were bringing a new pizza. After waiting for 45 minutes and not getting any replacement, I checked and they said well sorry it was not made and we will not charge you for the beer. No one way came to the table to check on me, I left the pizza on the table thinking I was getting a replacement and ended up not eating the pizza which was sitting there. Very poor service by the owners, only telling me well you had two slices.
Sameer R — Google review
We went here twice. The pizzas are big portions and very filling. For 2 adults we ordered 1 pizza with 10 slices and that was a little bit too much. They use a lot of cheese on the pizzas which is delicious if you are a cheese lover. The servers are friendly. On a busy night it will take them a bit longer to prepare your order, but no ridiculous waiting times. The atmosphere is nice and friendly, with a patio with lights and small cacti. They place 90's music, sometimes a bit too loud The added picture is a 12 piece, salami/jalapeno pizza that we ordered the first day. It's too much for 2 people, the 10 piece is better
Cindy B — Google review
Very good pizzas! Will be probably the best in town. And they don't charge you anything extra like +15%IVA +10%TIPS etc... They definately deserve some tips though...

Restaurant
Los Ranchitos Ometepe is a charming spot that offers an authentic taste of Nicaraguan cuisine, making it a must-visit for travelers. Guests have shared their experiences of enjoying brunch there, particularly around the festive season when the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The restaurant serves traditional dishes like breakfast tortillas featuring homemade tortillas, rice and beans, scrambled eggs, feta cheese, and cream cheese—all at an affordable price.
The service was friendly, and quick. I had my beer on the table in seconds. I ordered the fried chicken filet with fries, salad and rice. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the price was very good. I will be back again for sure
Joseph A — Google review
The food was okay, but overpriced for what you get. I got the fish in garlic sauce which had nice, tasty vegetables. Fish tasted good but pretty greasy. Partner ordered chicken fajitas which were just small breaded chicken fingers with a side of fries and a sauce, but no salad or anything. The service was good and the restaurant looks nice
Cindy B — Google review
We had a pizza grande to take away for two and it very good and the portion was big (we could not finish it). Good value for money. We also had a piña juice that was delicious.
E B — Google review
Would seriously avoid ordering steak. Ordered the filet mignon, asked for rare, but got a basically raw steak. There was zero searing. It was a rolled up long strip of steak, where many edges had never even seen heat. This was disgusting and unhygienic
Ben L — Google review
We went there for a brunch around Christmas. It wasn't too busy and food served reasonable time. Other customers were locals which usually good sign that food is good and not overly expensive. I had their breakfast tortilla which came with a homemade tortilla, rice & bean mix, scrambled eggs , feta cheese and cream cheese. It's typical Nicaraguan Breakfast and was $3.5. My partner ordered a chicken with fries which surprised us in a good way. It came with 3 layers of breads and 2 layers of chicken and veges plus plenty of fries!! It was only $4. We had lemonade with meals. Including tax, it was only $10ish and an amazing :)
Chieko H — Google review
A great place in the center of town. Works for lunch or dinner. Good for big groups too. +delicious food +friendly staff +clean bathrooms +not too expensive +good juice drinks +hammocks for relaxing near tables +not very busy so good vibe 10/10
Cory C — Google review
Went for Nicaraguan breakfast. Not pizza. It was excellent. Only people when we arrived, staff put phones away, turned on a fan for us and put on some nice music. Very attentive. Food was excellent. Great start to the day. My wife's smoothie was too sweet for her so she left it, they spotted this and were straight over to ask if everything was ok and did she want an alternative. All round good visit.

Restaurant
Soda Los Antojitos is a charming family-run eatery that offers an array of authentic and delicious dishes, including vegetarian options. With generous portion sizes, especially for meals accompanied by rice, it's no wonder visitors find themselves returning multiple times in just a couple of days. The friendly service adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making it a great spot for both dinner and coffee breaks—though you might want to skip the coffee as some found it lacking in flavor.
Authentic & tasty food. Vegetarian options are available. Family run business. Nice service. Good prices. We went there 3 times in 2 days. Twice for dinner and once for coffee. Dinners were huge portions - especially anything that comes with rice. Just skip the coffee though it is quite watery. Juices are delicious and cocktails nice & strong 💪
Pupi T — Google review
I come here often for the great food, service, and especially the amazing fruit smoothies. The prices are great too
Joseph A — Google review
Decent food for an evening snack, wasn’t the best on the island but did the trick. Lacking flavour mostly but decent portions. Staff were friendly and standard service. Not much of an atmosphere but this was just after a blackout.
Amie L — Google review
Our experience here was ok, could have been worse but also could have been way better. The food took a while to come and was very average. The atmosphere and music could be improved. Customer service needs to be worked on - female staff is very cold and not friendly, but takes 10% service charge without asking.
Josh W — Google review
The gentleman who runs the shop is extremely friendly. The restaurant is very clean and has seating inside/out. Although there is another adjacent restaurant with the same name as you can see from my menu photos - not sure if that is meant to separate restaurant from bar but both have areas with a power outlet to sit and work. I came by twice: first for classic Nica breakfast with deliciously fresh triple mixed juice and the jalapeño beef which was a bit salty but meant to balance off with the gallo pinto. It was cash only and they charge 10% auto-gratuity but for everything that came with the experience, it was worth it.
Allie H — Google review
Best banano smoothie I ever had ! Price was reasonable and the food was pretty good
Miguel J — Google review
Originally I wanted the „Cantoneso Rice, Potatoes, Lettuce Salad“ (Arroz Cantonos, Papas, Ensalada) it’s also with ham and chicken. Because I’m vegetarian I wanted to order that meal without the meat. Unfortunately it’s not possible, god knows why;), instead to do the cooking without meat. If you’re vegetarian you can order only this meal „Vegetarian Rice“ (Arroz con Vegetales y Huevos) which is unfortunately without potatoes. Food was eatable.

We ate breakfast here which was quite good. We also rented a scooter here for $15 american. The scooter ran well and we experienced no problems. I would recommend this business. Finally i saw a cool parrot here in a tree.

It's a simple place but very well located if you want to stay in moyogalpa. They offer private room for USD 7.00 or cheaper of you are staying long. The room have private bathroom as well, most of the ones in the second floor offer a Volcano view. They are few blocks away to the ferry on the main street. The owner is always around to help you, he can offer his kitchen if you need it. They also have a very talkative parrot.
Evelyn L — Google review
The guy is hospitable and the rooms decent. If you want to use your room to sleep in on a Saturday night, good luck. The bar across the street blasts regatton so loud you can hear it in your (new) room 4 blocks away. The whole town is quiet late night except that place, so I'd stay farther away then across the street. If you're in this hostel, I honestly think you'll struggle to sleep at all if not lose your mind. Maybe some people like it. I walked out in the rain at 1am with my bag. :) I love ometepe and the people though. Wonderful place! I just just find reggaton obnoxious and triple loud regatton even more so.
Adam K — Google review
If you look for a place absolutely FULL of MOSQUITOES ALL DAY and NIGHT, IT'S the place ! And you know what, don't even tell it to the owner because he'll start explaining it's not his fault or even shouting at you eventhough you saty perfectly polite. Well, just have a look in his place and you'll see the disaster anyway : darkness everywhere and the owner doesn't even know what's a smile. I do not recommend such dirty place and I obviously wouldn't dare ordering any food or night in it.
Yann F — Google review
If I could give it 0 stars I would. In the beginning, I walked past and saw it was a cute place to have a drink whilst waiting for the bus. And then it turns out it was too late for me to catch the bus to Balgue so I decided to stay in Moyogalpa for the night. The owner at first seemed really nice. The room was basic but it’s fine. Shower was dirty, looks like haven’t been cleaned for a year but that was fine. Upon laying on the bed, I’ve found a FULL GROWN FULL FLEDGED BED BUG under the pillow. I screamed and went downstairs to tell the owner. It was only the grandmother there and she looked at me and sent the maid up to deal with it. No apologise at all. Maid went up to check, offered to change another room for me. (I was the only one in the place). Still shaken, in the new room, I’ve found ANOTHER bed bug. Not as big but still bed bug. They told me it was a fly from the light, and looking at me was like why are you making a big deal out of it. Finally I decided to change the hotel, just wanted to stay somewhere clean. Did the British thing of apologise to say it’s not you it’s me. Then they tried to make me pay! Said I took a shower (!) and that I need to pay! I negotiated and said I will pay $1 USD and like the scammers they are, they agreed. As I was getting money out, I was like no this is ridiculous. So I refused to pay and left. DO NOT STAY HERE. I made a run to landing hotel down the street. The room and the bathrooms are clean and yet to see ‘a fly from the light’

Casa Toño is divine. I had such a lovely stay here. The location is truly special - my cabin was less than 10 metres from the water. Be aware of a fair few bugs and lizards but this was all part of the adventure! The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. I felt really well looked after. The private bathroom was great and the cold shower was a pleasant surprise! I went for a swim at sunset just outside my cabin and felt very at peace. Toño also helped me organise a motorbike rental which was much appreciated. Thank you so much to Toño and his family for being so kind!

The food is out of control. Anyone who is into healthy lifestyle will get addicted after the first bite! Shoutout to Dayton who makes a seriously creamy pina colada and has a killer smile haha

Great supermarket with options if you’re limited on cash and need to pay via credit card. There are deals which are great, and sometimes staple items don’t line up with tagged pricing. Big grocery store as part of the Walmart group. Very clean and organized store compared to other Pali stores. Most of the shelves filled up. You can get basically everything there, but mostly just the basics. Pricing in general more cheap than expense. Quick cashiers.

Really bad smoothie (they use 1 little banana and 1 maracuja for 1 LITER of Smoothie)! The ownerin is very very unfriendly! Don't go there!! Just a rip off!

(Translated by Google) They didn't have 2 menus that I wanted to order and then they brought me the wrong one (more expensive of course). Then they brought the smallest meat I've ever had. They also don't have any drinks, just tap water and their "smoothies". To top it off, she wanted to cheat on me, but she had just accidentally “miscalculated”. Don't go there!

The food is very fresh and authentic!! The staff and cook were very friendly and sooo welcoming!! It truly felt like we were in an Italian restaurant!! The gnocchi was our favorite, and the seafood was fresh and delicious!!

As an Italian I can assure you, this is the best Italian food I've had in Nicaragua. Lasagna like my mom makes it, fresh mozzarella, the bread and pizza just tasted like home! Never expected to find an Italian restaurant this good. Owners are really nice people who make everything themselves since ingredients are scarce. Such a great place!

On the Island of Ometepe Nicaragua, there is only one place to enjoy a perfect plate of home made pasta, and it is called Macondo Bistro. I've had the lasagna, the tagliatelle with Gorgonzola, and a slice of their home made pizza, and each time it was a slice of heaven. Add a glass (or three) of wine, and it is a perfect meal. They play the coolest music as well, I love this place.

Really delicious food, we went back twice!! Fresh, authentic Italian and at a reasonable price, sandwich was def favourite. Had Greek salad, the Serrano ham sandwich, spaghetti and limon gnocchi all great. Well worth a visit

We had a fantastic experience here recently. The food was of great quality and taste, some of the best Italian food we’ve had outside of Italy. The restaurant was relaxed, and we ended up chatting to the lovely Italian owner Claudia a little bit too. Definitely recommend to others!

One of the best meals I've ever eaten! There were a few vegetarian pasta and salad options but I went for the tandoori chickpea dish. It was INCREDIBLE, perfectly balanced fresh spices with a delicious cooling yoghurt dressing for the chickpeas were superb. Also a big portion size for the price, great value for amazing quality. I would genuinely come back to Moyogalpa again just to eat that dish! It paired perfectly with the iced green tea with ginger too. I wish I would've had space to try both the puddings as the Turkish fig dessert sounded delicious but I went for the chocolate brownie and it was such a dark deep chocolate flavour with a caramel sauce that finished it off perfectly. Not only that, but the staff were super lovely and the vibe was really chill with a great soundtrack playing unobtrusively in the background. I only wish that I'd eaten here every night of my stay so I could've tried all the veggie options!

I had the Spaghetti Limone and my boyfriend had the Spaghetti Macondo with shrimp. I’m a pasta lover so I knew I would love this place but my boyfriend was less excited (there’s not too much good pasta to be found in Costa Rica) and he’s usually a big meat eater but he REALLY enjoyed his dish and finished it before I could finish half of mine😆

This place is full with life. The food is AMAZING, the vibe is so nice, and Claudia (the owner) serves you with such a beautiful smile. We had the Greek salad, pasta with shrimps, Gorgonzola tagliatelle, fig pudding, and chocolate brownie. I honestly cannot tell you what was the best - everything was sooo good!!
