Kula Shave Ice offers delicious, high-quality shave ice, and we really enjoyed the flavors we tried—especially the Lilikoi Dreamsicle, which was refreshing and flavorful. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the texture was just right. However, the prices were a bit higher compared to competitors, which made it feel a little less of a great value. That said, if you don’t mind paying a bit extra for a premium treat, it’s definitely worth a visit!

Food: We got the Kula Rainbow which is with mango, strawberry and blueberry syrup on top and vanilla ice cream as the filling. The blueberry syrup is on the sweet side and not a big fan but the rest is fantastic! Their vanilla ice cream is made from scratch as you can see vanilla seeds in it and it tastes very creamy! Service: common and friendly Ambiance: outdoor seating only. The whole deco is colorful and vivid. Be careful with sticky tables and benches though.

05/02/2025 (Fri) We came here after seeing photos of shave ice topped with fresh fruit and really wanted to try it, but unfortunately, it’s no longer on the menu. They also don’t offer natural flavors, and you can only choose up to two flavors. We had the regular size with POG and mango & blueberry.

I ordered a guava and lilikoi shaved ice with condensed milk on top and I was beyond thrilled with how amazing this shaved ice was. I appreciated the menu was clear and had tons of options for customers.

Best shave ice in all Hawai’i. We live on Oahu, and nothing we’ve found comes close to how smooth, silky, and delicious this is to eat. Holy smokes, it’s amazing and we will recommend it to everyone visiting! Recommend the lilikoi and POG! Please add watermelon to your flavor line up!

Kula Shave Ice was the perfect stop after visiting the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden on a humid day! We ordered the Local and the Lilikoi Dreamsicle. Both were excellent afternoon treats, and I appreciated that they were not too sweet!

My favourite shave ice on the island! The second time I went, I got the lilikoi dreamsicle with half the seasonal flavour: ‘uala. Oh my gosh, it was heavenly. Now I’m going to dream about this place until I get to return. 💜

This great little gelato shop is tucked into a small store front in downtown Hilo. A small space with super friendly service. Nice selection of plant based and vegan gelatos. The homemade waffle cone was delicious and we had the chocolate and pistachio which were both wonderful

DO NOT COME HERE if you’re ASIAN. The young lady working at the front on Tuesday around 4 PM was extremely rude. When my husband and I walked in, there was a group tasting samples on the left, and a girl waiting for her ice cream on the right. I stood at the counter to look at the flavors while waiting. The staff member was “clearly busy”, but several minutes went by and she never once greeted us or even acknowledged our presence. After she finally finished rolling the ice cream and checking out the girl on the right, I said hi — but instead of looking at me, she immediately turned to the group on the left with a big smile and started chatting with them, as if my husband and I, the only two Asians in the shop — were invisible. I don’t care how the ice cream tastes, but Hicoco Hawaiian Gelato seriously needs to improve its staff training. No matter someone’s race or gender, everyone deserves the same level of service. Too bad. I usually leave a tip for takeout, but not only did she lose that tip, I’ll also be warning other Asians visiting Hilo to stay away from this place.

This is the best gelato I have ever had in my life. The apple pie was amazing and tasted like an apple crumble over vanilla ice cream, the red velvet tasted like cake and was perfect with the waffle cone which stayed warm the whole time and never cracked! The fact this is vegan and gluten free is a welcomed bonus and very inclusive of everyone. The kids play area was such a nice touch and made the experience way bette for my family. You feel the magic in this place!

Worth the wait! But I recommend calling ahead to place your order, which we did the second time we visited. The strawberry shortcake specialty mochi is amazing, stuffed with fresh strawberry, cream, and shortcake. I enjoyed the taiyaki with cream cheese and jam. The Oreo mochi was also great.

Order ahead for pick up or come to wait inline to order a dozen or more assorted fresh fruits mochi’s to share with friends and family. The mochis are made on-premises daily. If you are lucky enough while waiting inline, a staff might come by to offer samplings of the available mochis. The stuff is simply delicious. I prefer the strawberry shortcake and fresh strawberry mochis while my wife likes the mandarin orange mochi. Regardless, there are so many varieties and all are excellent.

I ordered strawberry mochi and several other assortment mochi. The mochi was good but not as good as what people had talked about and not worth it if you have to wait one hour. The girl in the front was sweet and patient but she made me the wrong order and I am too tired to comeback and correct them. The service was too slow and they take a very long time to prepared your order. If you want to go here, I suggest you to just make a phone call order and come around 10 or 11.

Love love love this place!!! Strawberry mochi and the Strawberry Short Cake are to die for. Everything else is delicious too. The line is always long so if you want to avoid it, make sure to call in early otherwise they have a time to cut off the preorder! Posting so those who want to know what to order can order! Seriously though, this place is delicious! Oh one more thing, they close Sundays and Mondays so order ahead! Oh and you can't carry the strawberry mochi to the mainland!

We loved this place so much that we made another trip back to Hilo on the last day of our trip to get more mochi! We especially loved the strawberry, strawberry shortcake, and Oreo mochis. We'll definitely come back every time we visit the big island!

HYPY HYPE HYPE !! Overall, the mochi was just okay. Nothing particularly special. This place seems to be driven more by hype than by quality. The wait time is quite long, which is understandable since the mochi is made to order. However, after finally trying it, I was surprised by how bland and lacking in flavor it was. The fruit used could also be of better quality.

Love you can taste in every bite! I fully understand now it is not just hype. We event went back the next day to buy more to bring back home.

Like many others that dined here, we were referred here by Paul’s Place when they were full. We had the Bacon and Cheese Croissant as well as a Vegetarian Quiche, and they were nicely heated up and crispy before they were served. It’s really good and well deserving of a 5 ⭐️! The latte was smooth and temperature well controlled (not scalding hot) which is a plus. Thank you Paul Place’s for the recommendation!

Food is decent, but we got here around 11 on a Friday and they were basically out of savory foods other than a BLT and three quiches, all of which were already somewhat stale. Seating indoors has fans, but it was only marginally better than just sweltering outside - I never stopped sweating. To top it off, they have a total of six seats. All of this makes sense and has good reasons (small shop, high electricity rates, etc.) but that doesn't change the experience.

This is the most impressive cafe in Hilo, and has some of the best cakes and baked goods I’ve had. Everything we tried was outstanding. Favorites were the raspberry bar and vanilla cake. Highly recommended.

We had the best Bacon and Egg Croissants we have ever tasted. So fluffy, we thought we were sitting by the Seine.

Hands down, my favorite and the BEST bakery in Hilo if not all of Hawaii! Jackie is fantastic in her craft and always creates edible masterpieces. I would go to Moonstruck with my husband almost every Saturday for a morning brunch and order her unique cakes or baked goods with coffee, each time consistently delicious. My personal favorites are Citrus Serenade, Almond Teres (She made a whole sheet of this for my wedding cake) and Frangipane (Almond) Croissant. You can't go wrong stopping by here and getting a small treat for yourself, or in my case, a full brunch assortment of what she has to offer that day (her cakes are seasonal depending on the ingredients availability)

A hidden gem in Hilo. We had pear tart and frangipane Croissant, both were top notch. We can tell the owner/baker really cared about her baking and customers. Make sure to stop by when you are in Hilo. You will not be disappointed.

We stopped in here for some sweet snacks to have later on in the morning. Nice tasty " flat croissant" ,and a macnut coffee cake. Paired well with coffee later in the day!

Day one of the trip and I've found the bakery I want to eat at every day! The pastrami sandwich on panini was amazing. And their drip coffee was perfect. They also had all kinds of sweets I might have to check out on future trips on!

I absolutely adore this place. It’s very obvious that their sandwich’s and baked goods are made with a tremendous amount of love. The pineapple chunk on the side of my breakfast sandwich was a nice touch. I really appreciated the vegetarian option for the breakfast sandwich. My favorite go to’s are the million dollar Mac nut bar and the avocado BLT. Thanks for being great.

Ordered an almost $18 dollar breakfast bowl not expecting it to be a small container one you would use for a side dish. I’m truly disappointed.

Mediocre at best. More bakery than Cafe. Breakfast bowl tiny, served in small double scoop ice cream type cardboard container. Layered in so tight you cant stir it up. Potatoes hot, eggs moderate, ham and cheese were cold. Not good. Would not go back. Girl at counter, while sweet, got order wrong and had to stand bin line again for coffee.

It is a great bakery offering a wide variety of pastries and desserts. The staff is incredibly welcoming and readily answers any questions about their sweet treats. During our visit, they generously offered complimentary samples of the brauni.

Staff was lovely - there is an extra fee to use a credit card, cash is preferred. Pricing was definitely fair given the portion sizes. There was a steady stream of customers ordering. Many flavours of ice cream and shaved ice. The ice cream was delicious and the shaved ice was excellent. Portion sizes for the ice cream and shaved ice were large. We split one shaved ice between two people and it was more than enough - flavours were good. We enjoyed our visit!

Oh my gosh we were so pleasantly surprised to find a local ice cream shop with so many amazing tropical flavors. This is a must stop for any visitors who want to try some exotic flavors. Located in a strip mall, it's a small place with a large selection. Generous servings and good prices make this a place that anyone would like

We googled shaved ice in Hilo and were not disappointed! We each got the regular and they were as big as our heads (could have shared or gotten the Keiki size). All of our flavours were amazing but the Ube sno cap was the highlight! Fast service, friendly staff and reasonable prices.

Great quick option😋. This is take out only however, there is two benches on the side of the building that you can sit and enjoy. Prices reasonable and so many choices. Portions are large. There is parking on the side of the street. However, I did not see a parking parking lot. This is located directly across from pineapples and you could miss it if you didn’t have GPS.

Some of the best if not the best shave ice I've had. Perfect texture of ice and flavors are distinct. Get the ice cream under and sweet cream top. It's enormous so allow plenty of time to enjoy it and get lots of napkins because it's messy but so worth it!

Wow this was probably the best shaved ice we've ever had. We ate lunch across the street at Pineapples (which was just ok) but then saw this place and the kids wanted it so we walked over. The keiki size is perfect and only $4. It was soooooo dang good I couldn't stop taking bites off my kids shaved ice... I should have just got one of my own. Highly recommend.

Definitely the most pleasant and friendliest business that we visited during our stay on the big Island! The young woman making the shave ice just kept a big smile on her face and kept everyone in line happy. Her young daughter did a good job of finishing the shave ice and helping out. Theirshave ice was the best we’ve had on the big Island! It’s just a block away from the tourist area so it seems that most of the people in line were locals. Had fun eating our shave ice out on the front bench on a hot day and making a mess!

Desserts are choke & onolicious! My Uncle enjoys the beef stew plate & the chili & frank plate. And it's never too cold for a strawberry or coke slush float & some French fries🍦🍨🍟 Yummy, yummy in my tummy😋

Brahhhh Katsu isn’t chicken strips! Don’t advertise chicken katsu if you’re just gonna sell us cheap chicken strips. Katsu has panko breading! Heard this place had a good reputation but this is a travesty. Also made my 77 year old dad pay for water. Cmon I know times is hard but that’s pathetic. Never eating here again. Ain’t worth it.

NUTTY CONES!!! Gotta try the "nutty cone" vanilla soft serve in a cone topped with macadamia nuts finely chopped You can get cones in a small or large size. The one I have pictured is small. I've heard the chilli here is also tasty. They have a drive through which is very convenient, as well as a walk up - pick up option There is ample parking on site as well.

They have food too… This was an unexpected surprise! We were there for the soft serve. The plain vainilla one was delicious, I’m not sure if it was the milk or the vainilla but was great. The other blended ice creams were really good. Not a place where we chose to sit down though.

I was really shocked to be charged $1.10 for a glass of water and then the they wanted to charge us extra for the chicken Katsu sauce, which wasn’t really chicken Katsu anyway. Most of the food is good but recently had called to complain about something regarding the food and was treated very poorly with no respect for a long time continued customer! Was supposedly handed the call to the manager who hung the phone when asked for her name!! I didn’t even ask for a refund or to have my meal replaced! Only asked to have more of what the dish actually was supposed to be (curry). Called back and asked the female employee what the managers name who I spoke to and she gave me the run around and was going to get someone else to take the call! (WTH) She too wouldn’t give a name for this manager! So very frustrated… I eventually hung up!! Never ever more a customer of KCs and for sure will definitely pass this story around!! Time to find a better tasting, wayyyyy better customer service place who treats their long time customers with respect! Forget the gravy…. Trip back will be a waste of my time. Bought chicken katsu and they gave me chicken strips. Told them, they offered a refund and then we decided to settle and eat it. Asked for another sauce and they tried to charge me for extra sauce. Yikes. All for supporting local but this is a joke. Nickel and dimers. Not morally cool to lie to customers.

Honestly some of the best quality chocolate I’ve had in a long time. I got a salted potato chip dark chocolate bar and a frozen hot chocolate and genuinely devoured them, i will say the dark chocolate so STRONG which is my personal speed but so you know if you get it it’s gonna be potent. Very reputable & well known chocolate grower and manufacturer. Excellent selection of products on sale as gifts / for you to take away, but they also sell a large selection of beverages and treats in their cafe. The Iced mocha (coffee & chocolate) and the Iced chocolate were the best we’ve ever tasted! We spent the rest of the day in Hilo wanting to go back for another. Great staff too, and the cafe is well air conditioned. Lots of indoor seating available. Highly recommended!

Love the delicious chocolates here. They suggested we try a sample as we were perusing the shop. Milk chocolate was yum, but the 70% Dark Chocolate was fabulous. Loved that they are a local Bean to Bar chocolate with all their products made here on the big island. Beautiful packaging. Makes nice gifts to take back home either for yourself, or as gifts for loved ones. There is seating both inside and outside so you can relax and sip your yummy beverages. They have also added mimosa’s and other delicious alcohol beverages to their already scrumptious lineup of drinks. The Margarita was my favorite.

What a great place, so welcoming and a great assortment of local coffees and chocolates! A shout out to Kristen who works there, she thoroughly explained the difference of the coffees and chocolates. There is even a flight of chocolates to experience the different flavors from the regions of the island. This is a must do! We will be coming back!!

Whether you like chocolate or not you will like this place. The cocktails are made expertly made. Bartenders with Aloha all around. If you can't make up your mind, they have a great sense for palates. But don't stop at the cocktails, the chocolate and coffee will have you on cloud nine.

This was our first visit and it is our favorite place in Hilo, now. My husband ordered the Breakfast Sausage Popover and I got the Breakfast Flatbread. We were blown away by the flavors! I was trying to eat my flatbread before it was cool enough, but I didn’t care! It was delicious! And my husband tore up his popover sandwich. He also asked for extra house sauce, which really made the sandwich pop! The interior looks a little well-loved, but I took it as a sign of success through genuinely kind staff and good food. The sign says they were established in 2019, and after enjoying their breakfast options, lattes, mango puff, and triple coffee scone, I can understand how they were able to survive covid! The vibe was comfortable, the food was 10/10, the service was impeccable, and the pastry selection had me drooling. Stop by Popover for a delicious meal, tasty pastries, and good coffee.

Found this gem on Google. We walked in and most of the case was empty, but the clerk offered some that were coming out within the hour. They were delicious! The purple sweet potato icing and strawberry icing yeast donuts were so fresh. We also got a Popover because you have to get a Popover when that is the name of the place! Wow!! Delicious and fresh served with some citrus butter. We also got a chocolate puff that was like a mini pain au choclat. They also had cold cans of coke which earns bonus points!!

More than anticipated! Delicious vegetarian sandwich, too! The popover bread is unique and delicious. The staff are cool and kind. They also have ono local classics… The flavor and care put into the food is of much higher quality than the cafeteria-like ambience suggests ; )

10:30am Sunday out of coffee. Limited menu and only a few items available. Shelves mostly empty too. $20 for a small Rueben that was soaking wet. I don’t understand how places get the ratings they do…

The bread for the breakfast sandwich is made fresh and the sandwich has a sauce that totally elevates the flavor profile. It’s a must try! Coffee is top notch as well. It was also nice to avoid the crowd with this hidden gem.

What a lovely and unique restaurant. Super friendly, amazing food using popovers as the holder for your food selection. We had the breakfast popovers. Extremely good my only suggestion (for my taste)would be to have any mayo on the side. It was a little too overpowering however, the food was still delicious.

Price isn't bad, selection is great. My kids love coming here. It's always clean and well stocked. The workers could be a tiny bit more friendly but eh. Two adults and 2 kids, we usually spend about $20 each time we're there which is (much) less than we'd spend if we went to Jamba Juice next door. They could do with a little more seating but I know they're limited on space inside and out so it is what it is.

Always a winner! I wish they had more dairy free options (coconut yogurt made with coconut milk would be great, for example) but the ones they do have are excellent. This location is always clean, friendly, and never too crowded. Tons of toppings that are always kept well stocked.

Great quality of yogurt and the employee was very friendly. Due to COVID, employees now serve the customer and there are no seating allowed the facility (very understandable and appreciated). Yogurt flavors are great and there is plenty of variety. Service was friendly and sampling is encouraged. Store appeared well kept and clean. A fun place to get yogurt and fruit mixes. Prices are the weakness of this place. 2 yogurt cups with fruit ran us 20 dollars. A little steep even for Hawaii. If you are an avid yogurt person and have to have a fix == then OK--- but a family visit could prove pricey!!!

Haven't eaten here in forever the yogurt is always good but the service was terrible. As I walked into the place no worker was up front. Shortly after I see an employee running out from the back to talk to someone outside. After making my bowl I still see no one in the actual store and waited for a couple minutes at the cash register before anyone actually came to help me. I get it, you're young workers but still where is the respect and discipline for your workplace.

I’ve been a regular at CUPCAKES, BOOM! for years now. They have phenomenal sweets, especially their cupcakes and macarons. Just recently, I ordered a custom-made birthday cake and it turned out beautiful! Nikki and her team were so accommodating and executed my vision perfectly. The cake itself was ube flavored and it was so flavorful!!

Macarons, cupcakes, and more! Everything was absolutely delicious, and I loved that there were so many ube options which is my favorite. We tried the ube and birthday macarons, along with the ube, ube cream cheese, and mango sticky rice cupcakes. The frosting was light, creamy, and oh-so-yummy. Like a vision in the middle of Hilo, all the really delicious original flavors, great service, nice space, the best coffee in our trip to Hawaii. We ordered Americano and Ube cupcake

Beautiful creations, delectable flavors, and sweet service. $1 macaroons today so hard to pass up on their delicious treats. If you enjoy both a sweets feast for your eyes as well as your stomach this is the place for you. All of their pastries are creatively crafted to first appease your eyes then your palate. I had the mango ice cream and it was not bad. The only reason for 3 stars is because I had paper on the INSIDE of my ice cream cone… That’s not a totally terrible thing, but still…. Weirded me out and didn’t have a 100% enjoyable experience

I was just there 10 minutes before closing and they locked the door and said I couldn't get ice cream because they were "closed." They did have enough time to give one of their friends outside ice cream even though they were "closed." Friday night staff on May 2nd.

My boyfriend ordered ice cream through DoorDash and when our door-dasher got to the store, someone had already taken the order. Someone who wasn’t a DoorDasher took our order. We tried talking to the door-dasher and he handed the phone to one of the cashiers in the store. The cashier had a short temper and quickly gave the phone back after we just said that we hadn’t received our order and that someone else took it (who was NOT our dasher). We believe that the workers didn’t ask for confirmation from whoever stole our order. It is customary for workers to make sure that it really is the dasher coming to pick up the order, not just any person who grabs it. This should be by asking the supposed “dashed” to show them confrontation from the DoorDash app in their phone. The workers here were short tempered and not willing to talk or figure out what happened.

The store manager, Charity, has made coming into Baskin Robbins feel awful. I love the ice cream and waffle cones and I always have, but with her "leadership" in the restaurant I don't see myself ever going back. She always has an attitude towards customers AND her workers, the inside is never clean, and the cake display hasn't had a single decent cake in there for over a month. The display is always empty when I walk in. This place really isn't what it used to be and it's really sad.

I don't know why this place is even listed anymore. They are no longer here.

The staff there is always wonderful but anything with banana always totally lets me down. They need to use only really ripe bananas. Drinks with the green banana taste and dry feeling just don't cut it. To whoever is making the fruit order, please, please PLEASE, pretty please, time it a little better or take anything banana off your menu until they ripen.

I still think it's the best ice cream ever BUT the service stinks. You don't get greeted, the person who took my order just stood there and looked at me, did smile or anything. Would be nice if they actually hired people who have great "people skills"....

Went to DQ yesterday Wednesday 1/17 the girl working was rude. I had to say hi 3-4 times just to get her to speak. She was sitting on a chair at the register and acted completely put out when she had to get up. I paid $11 for two small cones when I could’ve got the same thing at McDonald for $3. I frequent this location often & usually it’s better service and good vibes. I’ve worked in food and know how it goes, but have a better attitude at least you have a job. We will be back because the ice cream is bomb. Hope she is spoken to. I’ve had other employees help me that are nice Mahalo for your time

Great location, chili dogs, blizzard, orange Julius, you name it they got it. Except French fries, they don't have that.

Just spent $7 on a small blizzard to be corrected on how to call out my order. You guys can blow it out your backside.

Showed up and was told they weren’t serving ice cream because they need 15 mins to clean. They close at 8 and it was 7:44. Went back to try again. The really really big girl is nasty. You need to hire better people who don’t hate their job and customers.
