Oyster bar restaurant
Urban Oyster Bar & Eatery is a trendy spot offering tapas-style dishes, ceviche fish tacos, sliders, and an array of oysters. It's a versatile dining option with a relaxed atmosphere that earned two Hats at the 2018 Cuisine Fine Food Awards. The head chef, Aaron Ballantyne, is renowned for his culinary skills.
An amazing restaurant in the heart of Nelson. A nice quiet spot for dinner. We had a few small plates to share and some yummy cocktails. A must try is the oysters (the restaurant name kind of gives it away!). The food was fusion Asian and didn't disappoint!
Charlene E — Google review
Super quiet night in Nelson when we chose to eat here. However that didn't affect the quality of the food. Was super delicious and massive portions. Super good for my coeliac wife as well. Service was excellent. Would highly recommend
Andrew D — Google review
Absolutely delicious spot in the centre of Nelson. Stopped in to enjoy the oyster happy hour and it did not disappoint. Oysters both mignonette and tempura were delicious and fresh. We also had the salmon like & beef tartar (ultimate girl dinner) and the ham hock! Wonderful atmosphere sat outside in the sun and staff were friendly and super helpful.
Hannah J — Google review
This place is excellent. The food is exciiting, innovative and delicious. Having been 3 years prior, we drove well out of our way to visit again. This will not disappoint. Try everything...
Jonjo R — Google review
The set menu was the perfect amount for the two of us! Every plate was delicious! We particularly liked the market fish ceviche. Would definitely recommend.
Kate H — Google review
Great way to start your day. Went here for an early lunch and was a great choice. Great variety of drinks and food.
Wieland M — Google review
Had an amazing lunch here today. Friendly service, great tasting food, little bit pricey but I thought it was well worth it. Good presentation top notch, awesome selection of great tasting food, between 5 of us I think we tried almost everything on the menu. Would highly recommend and definitely go back again.
Paula S — Google review
Amazing menu that made it hard to choose and everything we tried from the different varieties of oysters, the ceviche and sliders were fresh, delicious and flavorful!

Restaurant
Hopgoods Restaurant is a sophisticated dining spot in Nelson, offering seasonal New Zealand dishes and a selection of wines. The historic interior and brick patio create a cozy atmosphere for diners. Located at the base of the Trafalgar Park steps, this well-established restaurant provides an unfailingly high-quality dining experience. The attentive staff ensures that guests can enjoy their meals at their own pace without feeling rushed.
Beautiful venue with a lovely understated menu and clean execution. Everything was delicious (special shout out to the paua and zucchini flower dishes) however the undisputed star of the show was the service, from entrance to exit attentive and charming without being overbearing. Nina who looked after us was world class! Highly recommend.
Joe D — Google review
Fabulous food and exceptional service. Sometimes I go to Nelson just so I can eat Aaron Ballantine’s food. It’s that good. And without question the best service I’ve had in NZ: warm, inviting, cheerful, fast, unobtrusive and knowledgeable. Last night I had scampi, bigeye tuna, sourdough bread, and a fig salad. The visit before this I had whitebait- a technical marvel because each one was tempura fried separately. The chef must be using magic. Tastes like it.
Robert C — Google review
I chose Hopgoods for my birthday dinner after a friend’s recommendation and was not disappointed. We had the tasting menu and the food was to die for, especially the tuna tataki - delicious! I have a number of food intolerances and this wasn’t a problem at all. Best gluten free bread I have ever eaten. The staff were lovely and the level of service was spot on. The building itself and atmosphere were lovely too, the rabbit art is a great touch. We will be returning for our anniversary dinner and we both can’t wait.
Paula C — Google review
Great dining experience in Nelson. We finished our foodie trip to Nelson with an more than worthy dinner experience at Hopgoods. From the point we stepped in until we left, we only experienced warm hospitality you could only wish for. Dawa and her team was looking after us so incredibly well, we felt like being at home. Food was incredible and offered a a great variety - big kudos to the Chef and team. We will hopefully be back soon.
Wieland M — Google review
Best fine dining experience we had in NZ, especially the main course and dessert
Sam — Google review
Food was simply fabulous. We had the bread and truffle oil butter to start, and the venison loin as our main. All was divine. Service was superb - prompt, helpful but not suffocating. Enough space between the tables so that you could talk without other people's conversations intruding; background music was at the right level too. As it was our anniversary, they produced a plate with 2 chocolate truffles on and Happy Anniversary written in chocolate as a surprise. Couldn't recommend highly enough!
Fiona H — Google review
After eating at restaurants around the globe, I can honestly say I would be thrilled to eat a meal this delicious in any location you can name. It’s world-class dining in little ole Nelson. We had the smoked salmon cakes, gnocchi, and snapper, with iceberg side salad. The first three dishes were a-maz-ing. The iceberg was good, but not necessarily my favourite salad of all time. Wrapping it all up, the desert was the butternut custard, a unique dish that I never wanted to end. The service was 5-star: attentive and very friendly without being obtrusive. The vibe of the joint is my favourite style, which is cosmopolitan and not even a tiny drop of pretentiousness. I may move to Nelson just to become a regular here.
Ken C — Google review
Fantastic meal and service. It is always a treat to visit Hopgoods' and it is consistently excellent. From the amazing bread and butter to start, melt in your mouth venison, tasty duck and to die for cocktails, it is so so good from start to finish. The experience never disappoints and I can't wait to go back again!!

Nestled on Wakefield Quay, the Boat Shed Cafe offers an upscale dining experience with stunning views of the harbor. The restaurant is perched over the water on stilt pilings, providing a relaxed atmosphere to savor globally influenced dishes. The menu is diverse, featuring a 'Trust the Chef' option for sharing complementary dishes selected by the chefs. Additionally, an extensive wine list from local vineyards and a variety of beers and ciders are available.
I was there in a windy and rainy day so couldn’t experience sitting outside under the sun. However, the food saved the day. All the dishes were generally good. Oysters were really fresh. The green mussels were a bit salty. Staffs were friendly and caring.
Uyen ( — Google review
Lovely restaurant and had a great experience overall. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a pleasant ambience that makes it perfect for a relaxed meal. The seating area is spacious and comfortable, but the best spot by far is the back deck it offers a stunning view of the sea, making it an ideal place to unwind and enjoy your meal. The food was generally good and satisfying. I tried a few of dishes, and most were well-prepared and flavourful. However, the chowder was a bit underwhelming compared to others restaurant I’ve had elsewhere , it lacked the depth and richness I was expecting. Would definitely recommend this spot for the views and overall dining experience!
Arjun B — Google review
We ate in the conservatory overlooking the water. Recommend when you book you ask for this best place to view the goings on in the harbour. Good food selections lovely vegetable side dishes
Karin H — Google review
Delicious seafood combined with beautiful view of the sea! We came for late lunch on a sunny day and got seated on the balcony on top of the sea, it was so charming. The seafood chowder was creamy and delicious, and the price was very reasonable.
Tuomas L — Google review
The service was impeccable and the vibe and atmosphere was really great. Our server was friendly and warm. The food was amazing! We don’t a lot but the serving was more than enough for us. Their cheesecake is a must try! By far the best one I’ve ever had!
Marice S — Google review
The staff were friendly, and the recommended dishes were all amazing. The lamb, especially with the tangy sauce, roasted sweet potatoes, and walnuts, was a real highlight. The mashed potatoes with cheese and truffles were so tasty. But one downside is that the restaurant’s main feature is the sea view, and you can’t see it without booking in advance. On a busy Thursday night (as shown in the picture), we ended up sitting in a corner of the restaurant, which took away half the charm.
Joy P — Google review
Food was good if you like seafood, I don't. My main was gnocchi very stodgy more sauce than pasta. Feedback was provided and listened to hopefully changes will be made. We ordered all 3 of the desserts on offer the boux were frozen and the caramel option reminded me of instant desserts of my childhood. The only dessert we rated was the cheesecake.
Jenny S — Google review
Late lunch here was amazing, I got the fresh oysters 6 (chef gave me 8 because some were small) and baked mussels, my partner got the garlic bread. All was fresh and delicious, the atmosphere was so calm and relaxing, with great friendly service. Will definitely be back next visit.

Fantastic restaurant downtown Nelson. The chef is inspired by all his travels, especially in Asia. All dishes were so good with the most beautiful flavors. We’ll definitely come back for more :). Dee & Peter

What an awesome place to visit! We came in for a valentine's evening dinner and the food was on point! Everything was freshly made and came out when ready which I loved, we got a whole range of different plates and drinks. The atmosphere was intimate and lovely. The staff were amazing! Polite, positive and attentive which is such an asset to th restaurant. Thank you

Believe the hype! This is a real Nelson fan favourite and I can understand why. Lovely fresh flavours and interesting combinations. I was worried the food would be too spicy for my taste but need not have been. Nothing was too over the top and they were very happy to accommodate. Great, friendly service - this is a well oiled machine with a great personality.
Sarah P — Google review
The best Bar-dining experience in a very long time. We booked beforehand and informed that we're having a kid with nut & seafood allergy and a young adult with chili allergy. When we've been brought to the table, the waitress already had a menu with all dishes highlighted that can be consumed for the dietary requirements. That's something I've never experienced anywhere that we've dined. The care and knowledge, especially since we brought the kids with their allergens, was outstanding. The food was just outstanding. We will 1000% come back.
Wieland M — Google review
Great, loved it, nice vibe. Excellent friendly service. Liked the interior design. Cool NZ music. Good wine list. Good food.

Great food. This is one of Nelson's best restaurants. We had a sliders, dumplings prawns, lamb shoulder and broccoli. It was all delicious. Our waitstaff were knowledgeable and friendly and made us feel very at home.
Wei L — Google review
Fabulous service by our Scottish waitress. Great welcome on entry and a good vibe inside. Disappointed with the food. Buns were dry and delivery of food disjointed. Although we were warned about this some kitchen consideration would have ensured the flow to match choices worked. We also would have appreciated spoons to serve.

Stylish wine bar with great cocktails and a vegetarian-friendly menu, Arden is a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing in Nelson.
Fantastic food designed to share round the table, best accompanied by a couple drinks. Prices are more on the expensive side with at least one dish being recommended per person. Couldn't quite get photos of all the dishes but we had stuff like a baked fish which was deliciously tender, iberico ham with homemade potato chips, desserts etc which were all lovely. Great service too 🙌
Peony Y — Google review
YES, YOU SHOULD GO HERE. I had one of those rare, peaceful opportunities to dine alone (an underrated pastime) and Arden was perfect. The staff are attentive, seem genuinely happy to see you and contribute wonderfully to the atmosphere - just the right level of music, chatter and lighting. Excellent wine and food options and I decided on the Olives, Harissa Pork Belly and complemented both with a wonderful Shiraz or two, which I struggle to remember the name of now. Fantastic, relaxing experience to end a busy day.

Our 4 course meal (chefs choice) was stunning and beautifully presented. Couldn’t have imagined having better service and a really relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They also ensured that allergies were taken seriously and eliminated any risk of food contamination (sesame) We shouldn’t have left it this long to go back and won’t be making the same mistake.
Rebekah V — Google review
We had the best meal! Our waitress was lovely and the wine waitress was excellent. She suggested the best pinot noir to accompany our main course. I had the venison which was quite the best I have had in a long time. We lived out starter share plates too. Just do it!!
Jill H — Google review
My partner and I are visiting our friends in Nelson from Auckland, and I must say, this place truly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the service was nothing short of outstanding—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was absolutely beautiful, crafted with high-quality ingredients that really shone through in every bite. Each dish was a delight for the senses, showcasing skill and care in its preparation. The food was so good, we found ourselves savoring every mouthful and wishing we could stay longer. The wine list was impressive, offering a great selection to complement our meal. The bartender’s knowledge was incredible—her expertise truly showed in every cocktail we tried, each one expertly crafted and perfectly balanced. The ambience was lively and vibrant, creating a fantastic atmosphere that added to the overall experience. It felt alive and buzzing, with great vibes all around. All in all, this place has truly impressed us. If you're in Nelson and looking for a spot with exceptional food, top-notch service, and a lively atmosphere, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try.
Marjorie S — Google review
Another amazing dining experience at this wonderful informal restaurant in Nelson. We had the smoked fish pate (divine), the pork (very good) and the fish (one of the best fish dishes we’ve ever had👌) and all served with a unique and well thought through selection of wines and all at a very VERY fair and reasonable prices. Nice and busy, good atmosphere, decent background music and low lighting too with friendly, fast and informative service. Great food, wine and vibe. Totally recommended. 👌✅👏
Rob S — Google review
I was surprised at how small the tapa serving sizes were and actually, would not have stayed for a main if I hadn’t been persuaded by some others in our party. The main we ordered was a shredded lamb dish. It came with a smear of hummus and, 2 curls of cucumber and a few pomegranate seeds. The lamb was the size of a small muffin. I was gobsmacked that we were being charged $44 for this. If the flavour had been impressive, I would have accepted the price but I thought it average. I will not be going back.
Benita L — Google review
A friend and I had a great experience in the evening 2 months ago and when an out of town friend was staying was an easy decision to book for 4 of us for food and a drink. The menu had changed it no longer included oysters or creme Carmel that we had so enjoyed previously.. when I queried? Was told "menus do change" dismissively by owner! We as mature diners felt both patronized and treated dismissively by the staff .. we ordered plates to share .. they very small portions and over priced.. the 1 main course of lamb shoulder we shared at $44 was a joke a small roll of pulled lamb served on a smear of hummus with 3 rolled slices of cucumber sprinkled with a few pomegranate seeds.. With the wine, main. 3 small plates plus a small dish of 10 olives.. 2 slices of cheesecake served naked on plate ..... The bill exceeded $400 we were dissapointed and felt it unfair and unreasonable. We won't be returning.

Nestled at the top of Trafalgar Street, Burger Culture stands out as a must-visit destination for burger enthusiasts seeking a casual yet delightful dining experience. This independent burger joint takes pride in crafting its menu from scratch daily, including fresh burger buns and house-made sodas. The playful, pun-filled menu features an array of options that cater to various tastes, including vegan delights like the Beyond Burger.
I came here after reading all the glowing Google reviews, and wow — it absolutely lived up to the hype! It was a rainy night, and we sat by the window watching the rain fall — the whole vibe was super cozy and chilled. Our server recommended the Hop Federation Pilsner and I was blown away! I’ve officially found a new favourite beer profile that I’ll be keeping an eye out for from now on. Now, the burger… incredible. The red orange marmalade was such a standout — it added this perfect sweet tang that balanced beautifully with the savoury beef. We also had curly fries with black garlic aioli on the side (so good), and finished it all off with Mars balls for dessert. Every bite was a treat. Loved the atmosphere, the service, the food, and that beer! Can’t wait to come back.

While on a short work trip to Nelson, I went into the CBD to find a nice place to have dinner. I popped in to check out the place. I received a pleasant greeting and handed a menu. I ordered the Johnny Smash with Fries. The fries arrived first and were perfectly cooked and salted. The burger arrived a couple of minutes later and tasted amazing. There was a generous amount of bacon and burger patty and I thought that I got good value for money. The staff were great as well.
Murray H — Google review
Some of the yummiest burgers I've ever tasted. Unique flavors. You can tell they have some amazing chefs. Fries are banging too and so much choice of tasty toppings. Staff are warm and friendly and the music is always 10/10. Perfect place to go for a cozy winter dinner with friends or fam. Great portion sizes, you'll be rolling out the door with a huge smile on your face !
Eleanor J — Google review
Burgers felt a fair bit overpriced, and underwhelming, not particularly hot, a little under seasoned, just missing the X factor that the price promised. Didn't meet my moderately high expectations (based on price). Beef burger texture was not amazing, perhaps needed more % of a fatty cut? I don't know, I don't own a burger shop, but I've definitely had better. Staff were attentive.
John B — Google review
This place is cool! The burgers are so delicious and they have such a great selection to choose from to. I tried the Diana Soss and hubby had the Chicolas Cage and both were delicious. Loved the pork sausage patty and the mushrooms along with the cream peppercorn sauce and wholegrain mustard was an amazing combination. The curly fries were yum. We also tried their passionfruit soda which was nice and refreshing. The place was packed so there was a little wait on being served but nothing to complain about because the food came out reasonably fast considering there were a few large tables ordered before us. The service was friendly! An awesome range of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Was tempted to try the donuts but we were absolutely stuffed full. The music was a vibe!!!!
CC B — Google review
It’s a modern place where you can grab burgers and beers. The menu is quite large, they offer several types of beers and different burgers. I had the tandoori chicken burger. I was told it’s spicy but it’s not spicy. It has a lightly spicy taste but that’s fine. I rate the burger 4/5 because the chicken was a little dry. The beers are very good and the staff is hilarious. They’re very friendly, funny and make it an even better experience to be here. 5 stars and a go to!
Aaron — Google review
Really yummy burgers ! We had the Lorena fried chicken and the spice up my life. Both were tasty. The vibe is cool at the venue as well. Burgers are well priced but their sides like the curly fries are ridiculous, $10 seems to much for that.
Adida R — Google review
Beer House has opened up at Culture and it’s a great - funky vibe, same great burgers…now with Hop Federation Beer choices (and cider). Taste a few beers (a flight of 4) or have a pint of your favourite. Wide selection of yummy burgers: Love the enamel plates! There’s no leftovers because always delicious food.

Restaurant
Little India Nelson is a must-visit for those craving delicious Indian cuisine, particularly Punjabi dishes. The restaurant prides itself on using recipes passed down from Grandmother Premjit Kaur Gill and offers an indoor dining experience that shouldn't be missed. For those unable to visit in person, the restaurant also features a cookbook on their website so patrons can recreate their delectable meals at home.
We had an excellent Indian meal here and it is not often I get to say that. We thought we were going to be disappointed with the fish tandoori starter as it had no flavour but when we did not eat and brought this up the chef made a Punjabi version which was great and if you like spicy food the version to go for. We then had the Amchaari lamb another very good dish. The staff were lovely clean and moderately priced

The restaurant service is spectacular. The food is delicious. Everyone who goes to Little India should try the tasty mango juice with yogurt 🤩

What a fantastic dining experience! Little India in Nelson truly exceeded my expectations. The food was absolutely delicious—each dish was bursting with authentic flavors. The presentation was beautiful, making the meal feel even more special. The service was top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The host was incredibly kind and made sure we had everything we needed. A genuinely wonderful place with great people. Highly recommend!

Two days ago we went to this restaurant for dinner…. As a seasoned diner of fine food and after 70 days in the South Island we have dined out 65 of them…. 5 of them Indian Restaurants …. The food we ordered lacked substance … only a little bit of lamb in our potion but mostly sauce …. And our friend had chicken and even that was minimal and he complained to me saying that chicken is as cheap as and still mostly sauce. To save your restaurant from more critical appraisal as what is coming from us … be generous with the meat/ chicken/ …..don’t be mean … Paul & Lucia and our friend John .

I had ordered food from Ubereats from this restaurant. Worst experience ever. The lack of effort put in the preparation was appalling for a service business. Forget taste, I found a metal piece in my food. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Absolutely horrid service.

friendly atmosphere plenty of seating. my pet hate is being sat down and then to wait 20 minutes for a drink. we don't go out to drink water. however in this case $10 for a 1.50$ bottle of beer or 12$ for a 333ml of average tap beer makes the water appealing sadly. and the problem with the sad state labour has left us in from their tragic leadership is that restaurants have become uber bars to survive therefore lose their identity and forget that dining out should be a memorable experience for good reasons. the food quality is good flavor is good ive had a lot better and I've had worse. this place is capable of a lot better but are struggling in this disastrous economy. hopefully next time will be more memorable.

This restaurant is a popular choice for Indian food in the Nelson area. It has indoor and outdoor seating, delivery, takeout, and reservations. The menu offers a variety of vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Very delicate and authentic cuisine. The food on the plates was plenty the service was very friendly and the waiting time was accurate. We'll come back.
Andreas S — Google review
We ordered the lunch platter and were disappointed with both the quality and quantity of the food. The portions were surprisingly small, and the dishes were served cold. Despite specifically requesting the curries to be spicy, they were overly sweet. When we asked for green chilies to adjust the flavor, we were told they didn’t have any—which is surprising for a restaurant. The staff was unaccommodating and unresponsive to our requests, which added to the overall poor experience.

Hey 👋 All Used to love this place back in 2016 /2017 ,Was great bustling food was yum . Went there after a while 2025 The customer service team have become relaxed , it was alright. The food was ok won't say bad , but definitely not good like it used to be . Ordered butter chicken but got chicken tikka masala . Gave the feedback but he argued back that it's not possible and it's the same chef since 11 years . As my Indian Heritage background I know my taste for Indian food . So might have won awards but not the same anymore has lost its touch ... Drinks were warm like coke had asked for more ice also i asked if it was cans , was told yes but just served from big bottles , was on flatter side. Mehhh Sorry team not rating you good becaus of honesty. Otherwise , enjoyed eating with family was alright environment . Hopefully you guys can up the game like it used to be as i truly love this place hopefully this feedback can bring positiva change in food and service Reply to the reply below : Thanks for clarifying that how the staff were and drinks . I guess you are truly proving me correct here rather taking the feedback to up the game you are taking it personally and pointing it back at the customer. And now also dictating how my taste buds inside my mouth might have tasted the food ? Rather actually tale the feedback and have a chat with the chef and see what went wrong to create a better tase for next time . Also thanks for pointing out to me that i was enjoying my food, yes i was hungry with my family and not that fussed when hungry . Hence i dropped a feedback so maybe you can up the game and make the improvement . I can also see that the business has been sold recently and seems like it now the same anymore . Anyway your choice guys your restaurant upto you how you want to take this feedback and get better or not . Not my loss :) il take away more stars as you’re dictation on my taste buds telling me how i would now taste food inside my own body . Have a good evening

Superb service, great food, Indeed the best Indian restaurant in the nelson!

The Indian Cafe is located in a lovely old villa. The food is fantastic. The dishes are full of flavor and a good size. The Nan bread is hot and soft without being too soggy. I highly recommend the tandoori platter for 2 as a starter, it’s enough food for 3 to 4 people. If you still have food for a dessert you should try the Gulab Jamun. The service was good, but there was an older member of staff training a new employee, she was very condescending to the new employee.

Awesome Indian food! This place really does it well. A nice atmosphere in either the indoor or the outdoor dining experience. Staff were good, local beverages were very good and the food was great. All the breads were exceptionally well done - and the curries were amazing. A great place for families, friends and even couples to enjoy a nice night out (if you are a couple and want to be away from the crowds (or kids) then the booths outside, down the side, are perfect for that romantic date night curry.)

This was a great place for a family Indian meal. The food was good quality obviously and the absolute best onion baji I have ever tasted. The only factor not to my particular taste was the spices. We ordered medium and there was no heat at all in any of our dishes. Lovely place though, nice staff and a vibrant atmosphere. I'll go for hot next time for sure 🇮🇳

Seafood restaurant
The Styx is a popular waterfront restaurant located on Wakefield Quay, offering stunning views of Nelson Harbour. It's known for its inventive menu that includes sugar-free, keto, paleo, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. The double-decker restaurant specializes in fresh seafood and is praised for its delicious fish of the day and scallop carbonara. Visitors can enjoy a serene atmosphere with beautiful sea views while savoring real, honest food made from scratch.
Arrived in Nelson midweek, staying near the waterfront, so I looked for a seafood restaurant to complete the day. Took a short walk to Styx to find it packed (must be good). Host said they had a share table outside and a family of 4 were finishing up so we accepted that. Had a great view of the harbour and weather was great. Ordered our meal and our table was joined by another couple. Great food with wine and service was spot on.

Some of the best food we've had on this visit to NZ. Presentation was exceptional and flavours were great! Well done team!! Great location on the wharf - and they sat us near the fire on a cold day. Bonus! Beautiful food and good value for money.
Harvey G — Google review
Our lunch at The Styx was truly exceptional — one of those rare dining experiences where everything comes together perfectly: the food, the atmosphere, and the service. The seafood chowder was absolutely outstanding — rich, creamy, and full of fresh, perfectly cooked seafood. The balance of flavors was remarkable; it’s honestly the best chowder I’ve ever had, and I’ve tasted this dish in many corners of the world. The fish and chips were equally impressive — golden and crisp on the outside, soft and tender inside, with just the right seasoning. Simple, fresh, and flawlessly executed. And the service was nothing short of excellent. Our waitress, Sophie, was incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful. She made us feel genuinely welcome and added a personal touch that made the whole experience even better. A perfect lunch by the water — delicious food, lovely atmosphere, and warm, professional service. The Styx is a place I’d gladly return to and wholeheartedly recommend to anyone visiting Nelson.

Amazing food, view and customer service! We ordered the ceviche and fish of the day. Both were pretty good. The highlight was the fish sauce. Chocolate mousse worth it! Highly recommend!

It is one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. Service was exceptional all the staff were extremely nice and hospitable and catered for our needs. The chef did a wonderful job with our meals and it was super quick too. The restaurant was as full as it gets but they still did a very organized and efficient job managing the customers and kept everyone smiling and happy. It’s my birthday today, I don’t know if that had anything to do with my positive mood but they definitely complimented that and raised it to a new level.

We had such a fantastic dining experience here! It’s definitely a popular spot, so making a reservation is a must, especially around dinner time as it gets very busy. The atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, and the service was attentive throughout the night. The food was outstanding — the seafood was fresh and full of flavor, with the chowder being an absolute standout. Rich, creamy, and packed with perfectly cooked seafood, it was one of the best I’ve had. I also tried the venison, which was beautifully prepared, tender, and paired with flavors that really elevated the dish.

Visiting family in Nelson and this was recommended as a good place for a meal (celebrating my wife's birthday). 6 of us on a rainy Sunday evening over Easter and the place was quite busy with several tables being used and a very large group in the outdoor covered area. We had earlier moved our reservation out 30 mins (they accommodated us no problem), the staff were friendly and attentive on arrival and with ordering, Ollie (6 weeks into the job) was great with advice on selections, drinks and keeping on top of clearing space on the table. The meals were great, food delivered quickly and was hot, fresh and well cooked/presented. A good selection of beverages were available for our tastes. The prices were fair for what we had in keeping with expectations and were good sized meals. Total $374 with 6 meals, 10 drinks (incl 3 cocktails). Will definitely be back when in the area again.

Harbour Light Bistro is located on Wakefield Quay overlooking the water with a great view of the lighthouse and boulder bank. The bistro offers quality, locally sourced dishes cooked in a “slightly different angle on traditional cuisine” according to the owner and head chef Steve Coyne. Many of their patrons mention great dishes and fine views.
My family and I had an excellent time celebrating my 21st at Harbour Light Bistro. We came on a Tuesday, so it was very quiet. The staff were very attentive, not overbearing or pressuring at all. The manager on duty, Matt, was a wonderful, friendly host to us. The food on the set menu was all beautifully cooked and well worth the price. We will love to come again.

Nestled in the heart of Nelson, East St. Cafe and Bar is a vibrant haven for food lovers, especially those seeking delicious vegan options. With its funky decor and inviting courtyard garden, it’s the perfect spot to unwind while enjoying a diverse menu that includes mouthwatering burgers, fresh salads, and even fish and chips. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming—ideal for anyone who might feel anxious about dining out.
I totally loved my first experience with the east street eatery! It was cosy, delicious and I just loved it! The interior design is really amazing and I loved that they use old vinyl covers for their menus. Also the amount of plants and the little fire place are amazing. The service was really nice and even took a photo of me and my friends after the food arrived pretty fast. I loved that everything was vegan and you didn’t had to think about something being not vegan. That’s why I was actually overwhelmed because it was nearly the first time you actually had to choose from soooo many options! And the food was great. I had the daily special which was Cannelloni : Pasta Tunnels with roasted broccoli, cauliflower, spinach and tofu ricotta baked in a Napoli sauce and cheese with a side salad. And for dessert their crème brûlée which had also passion fruit in it Overall great food for great value and it comes out fast so go and try out East street eatery!!! I loved it :)

We came here for yesterday afternoon and it was simply at best, okay. The decor was funky, with lots of plants and the menu had some interesting options. We ordered some hot drinks and a bowl of chips for the table. We waited about 45 minutes for our chips and nearly an hour for two coffees and a pot of tea. Apparently their POS system was down which we did understand, however the waitstaff’s response left much to be desired. Having heard great things about East St it was a shame to have this experience. Probably won’t be back. Our food and drinks were decent once they finally arrived.

Others’ meals looked delicious too. I don’t personally like alt milk coffee so didn’t try it here and they don’t open till 12 anyway. Would definitely come back for food - must be pretty with the lights in the evening. Dogs welcome!😉

When you walk in it’s an instant wow, the decor is amazing! I’ve been here twice now and both times the food has been on point with some of the best vegan food I’ve had. The first time I got the nachos which were amazing. My friend got one of the salads with falafel and it looked good so I came back a couple of days later and ordered it. It was really tasty, it had so many different flavours which had the sourness from the pickled cabbage and the nuttiness of the tahini and the seeds which made it really well balanced. My dad got the sandwich and fries which he said he really enjoyed, we also got the immunity tea which was really yummy. I’m here on holiday and I intend to come back at least once again before I leave.

The Nelson Market is a beloved institution that takes place every Saturday in Montgomery Square, offering a vibrant and diverse experience for visitors. With over 30 years of history, the market features enthusiastic vendors showcasing fresh produce, handmade crafts, and artisanal goods. It's a great opportunity to engage with passionate stall holders and immerse yourself in a creative and uplifting atmosphere. Additionally, the market has received royal recognition with a visit from Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
The Nelson Saturday Market is a bustling hub of creativity, offering a wide array of artworks and locally produced goods. From handcrafted jewelry to fresh produce, the market caters to diverse tastes and interests. However, finding parking can be a challenge, as the popularity of the market leads to limited spaces and crowded streets. Despite the hustle and bustle, navigating through the throngs of people adds to the lively atmosphere. Overall, while the market may test your patience with parking and crowds, the abundance of choices and vibrant energy make it a worthwhile destination for a weekend outing.

A wonderful dining experience while staying at The Hotel Nelson. We dined here for breakfast, dinner, and dessert, and not a single dish on the menu disappointed us. Some of the dishes made us gasp in delight and I ate till stuffed. I in particular enjoyed the onion rings, and the belgium breakfast waffles. Amazing high class restaurant with attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff and the absolute best food experience we’ve had in the South Island!! Absolutely everything was delectably delicious and tantalised our tastebuds. Reasonably priced as well for what it is. We’re definitely coming back for breakfast in the morning!! The potato skins, garlic bread and beef brisket tacos were to die for and i dare say probably the best I’ve ever had anywhere in the world. The lady we had serving us was great! very kind and patient with us presented tidily and the bartender was super cool!! The music they played definitely complemented the vibe and atmosphere of the restaurant as well as two tvs playing the news and friends for entertainment. Overall 10/10 in my book and I’ll definitely be booking this hotel and restaurant next time we travel to the South Island.

Went there for dinner tonight, the bar service was slow and forgot a drink, the wait staff upstairs was wonderful, food took forever, and my partners steak was chewy and not very nice one of the worst steaks my partner has ever had. The guy behind the bar when we went to pay didn't listen to what we said about the food and just laughed it off and my partner told him that he just laughed off what we said. Not happy about it.
Rebecca P — Google review
The restaurant is clean and very well presented. Prices are very reasonable in my opinion compared to many other restaurants I have visited over the years. Food was very well presented and tasty. The only downside was that our food was left for almost 10min under the heating lamps, which kept the food warm but not hot like it is when it’s prepared by the chef and ready to be served. Lucky this is not the standard practice as our food was the only one left like that between 18:00 and 19:10hrs on the 23/04/2024 all other dinners were served immediately after the bell rang. We have booked for another dinner tomorrow night, to see if this was a one off for us. This restaurant is wheelchair accessible unfortunately many patrons of the adjacent The Hotel, were parked on the path for wheelchair access, therefore making it difficult for mobility challenged people to access the restaurant. This was my first experience with this restaurant. I chose this establishment as the venue for a reunion with my cousins, then breakfast the next morning. The choice was made due to the fact we were staying at the Hotel Nelson. This has been by far the best choice without hesitation or doubt in our minds. From the confirmation of booking alongside the greeting apon our entrance to the end of our farewells, this has purely been an extremely professional and memorable experience. The food was of Masterchef quality, presented beautifully and the customer service from Marcia was above and beyond our expectations and was not only attentive in every way imaginable but professionally done with an amazing attitude and smile, thank you for making our experience so enjoyable. We will be returning in the not so distant future. We fully recommend the staff of this establishment for your 5⭐️ efforts. Once again, thank you 🥇🏆

One of the best scones I’ve ever had! We tried both the savoury and sweet options — both were absolutely delicious and a great size. The coffees were perfect, and the staff were all so friendly and welcoming. Loved that the terraced area is dog-friendly too. We’ll definitely be back!

Despite the nearby construction and the café being fairly busy, River Kitchen managed to keep a calm and relaxed atmosphere. It was the kind of place where you could still chat and catch up without raising your voice. The staff were excellent, attentive, and quick on their feet when it came to serving drinks and food. I ordered the Big Breakfast without mushrooms, and it was delicious. There was a pinkish sauce on the plate that added a nice touch, though I wasn’t entirely sure what it was, possibly cranberry. Either way, it complemented the meal nicely. Overall, River Kitchen delivered a great dining experience with friendly service and a peaceful vibe, even with the busyness and construction outside. Next time, I might give the pancakes a go.

Noticed this cafe as we were walking along the river. We decided to try their coffee & muffins. Coffee was delivered quickly considering how busy they were. Nicely presented cup with pleasant flavour. Muffins were wholesome, huge & delicious. Service was great & they handled the crowd well

Babagatto is a welcoming Italian restaurant with amazing food and great service. The chefs are passionate about their cuisine and make sure that you have a wonderful dining experience. The food is fresh and delicious, and ale is especially talented - Definitely worth trying!
The best things in life are simple. Like the Italian cuisine. Raffaello is not simple at all: he is a true Italian passionate. But luckily he is true to the essence of Italian food: simple but so yummy yummy good!! And his love for Piemonte wines made our dinner perfect...

Absolutely delicious and authentic Italian restaurant in the city center of Nelson. The Italian owner Raffaello is a very friendly person making sure that everyone is having a great time. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for some delicious homemade pasta and deserts!!

The home-made pasta here were beautiful. We celebrated hubby's birthday on Thurday night. They were very busy with one staff serving tables. He managed very well with good manners. Satisfied with the food especially!

Wow what an experience. The owner is a really cool Italian guy and we were lucky to get a table on a busy night. The carbonara was to die for. No cream, parsley or mushrooms. It's made with a lot of cheese the Italian way. Must go if you like Italian food.

I have often looked at this restaurant as I passed during the day. Tonight I am happy to say that I booked a table to see what all the fuss is about. I was not disappointed. The food was beautiful beyond my expectation. We had pork belly and egg plant parmigiana and just wow. Pork belly was melt in mouth delish and the egg plant was rich, vibrant and well balanced. We had 2018 Sangiovesi at only $14 a glass! And a dark sultry caramel pannacotta, to finish. The golden lining to an awesome meal had to be the host, authentic Italian, fun and kind. He made dining a true experience. I cannot wait to return.

Visited for the first time for a special celebration. Had seen a recent review in paper and wanted to taste what all the rave reviews were about. Having been to Italy a few times I know what good Italian food is. This place is the real deal. Amazing genuine Italian dishes with amazing flavours. A wide ranging menu with great wines and beers. Had a great 4 course meal with wine and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recommend. Will return.

Babagatto really is one of the very best Italian restaurants I've been to! The food is delicious and the place has such a great atmosphere. I came for a meal the other night and really was blown away by friendly the staff. The owner is an absolutely lovely guy who treats you like one of the family from the moment you step through the door. They are very attentive and understanding about any dietary needs you might have. They really take it seriously. Absolutely delicious food, wonderfully lovely staff and a great atmosphere. A must visit if you're looking for great Italian food in Nelson.

The most authentic Italian restaurant outside of Italy 🇮🇹 we went with my 6 month old daughter and my family. Baba was fun, friendly, authentic, knew his wines, suggested the best dishes and gave my daughter a cork to chew. Food was amazing. Wine was amazing service was fantastic, warm and friendly. Really felt like we were in Italy again. Told us a lot about authentic Italian cooking. Can’t wait to go back.

Tongtara Thai Restaurant, located at 142 Hardy Street, offers irresistible lunch deals with a wide variety of dishes for just $11. Meanwhile, Chokdee Thai Cuisine at 83 Hardy Street provides vibrant lunch specials priced between $12 and $14. Little India at 269 Hardy Street is also known for its reasonably-sized meals on the lunch menu ranging from $12 to $17.
One of my favourites, has never let me down! I have been going here since 2017 and took my sister here today. They gave us free spring rolls as it was a special day for the restaurant. She ordered the green curry with chicken (medium spice) and it was so flavoursome, without being too spicy, great for a cold day! I got the stir fried rice noodles with beef which is a usual for me and they’ve always been consistent in delicious flavour with lovely fresh vegetables. Great prices for lunch and the service has always been exceptional here, very attentive! 110% recommend to Thai lovers 🫶🏼

Food is delicious and well presented, great friendly service, atmosphere is nice but sound carries making it a little noisy inside when it's busy
Aaron H — Google review
Been a regular customer at Tongtara since 2018, so all the more galling what happened. Put in a take away order last Sunday and picked it up. They've changed to paper bags for the order presumably to cut down on plastic use. Drove home with order on son's lap. When we got back to the house he said it was leaking over his lap. Picked it up at which point the bag was disintegrating and leaking over my lap and then trying to get to house the bag fully disintegrated and dropped the meals over the drive. I called the restaurant and their first reaction was 'that couldn't possibly have happened' (why would I be ringing?). Their second reaction was 'well it was fine when I left the restaurant therefor my fault'. Their third reaction was disinterest and 'what do you want me to do about it?' Given that I was a long time customer I felt I would be treated better than just being a trouble maker and would at least have had some acknowledgement of the issue and an apology. Consequently they have lost a regular customer - beware if you have issues they don't treat you well
Chris R — Google review
As a frequent consumer of Thai food, it was time to give Tongtara a try. While I had eaten here before, it had been years ago. I remember my first experience fondly, so was looking forward to this visit. We were seated, served a bottle of water and drink orders were taken. The drinks arrived and we then ordered our dinner. We took advantage of the Silver level group deal, 4 people get a selection of entrees, a main each and ice cream all for $34 each. The first course arrived quickly. The chicken nibbles were tasty, although somewhat small serving, A lot of vegetable spring rolls and some other bits and pieces. Our mains arrived and they were fine. The most successful was the beef masaman, which was rich a flavourful. I ordered the chicken cashew nut stir fry and it was tasty. The vegetables could be a little fresher, but the flavour was good. The only complaint here was that the main took 30+ minutes to come out after the entrees were finished, and this time was noticeable. Dessert was ice cream with a sauce selection and this was OK too. Not the best Thai in town, I prefer Chokdee on the corner, but a good effort and appreciate the service.

Went for lunch with my sister and the service was amazing, So friendly! They gave us 4 free spring rolls to share due to it being a special day for the restaurant. I got the green curry with chicken and it was sooo tasty and my sister got stir fried noodles with beef and she loved it! Food and service was so good! Was a bit quiet in the restaurant so it felt a little weird but it made it easy to be able to have a good conversation. Love love love Tongtara and will definitely be going back as soon as possible 😁❤️

The best roti I have ever had in my life, light and cooked to perfection. Had the rice paper spring rolls as another starter, fresh and tasty dip, have had a little more punch/acidity in the dip elsewhere which is purely a personal preference. Had a Thai classic, Green Curry for the main, VERY flavourful and well presented, generous portion of rice. Partner had the crispy tofu salad she was a fan, gone before I could try it. The main highlight aside from a delight to the taste buds and ann affordable meal was the service. Felt very warm and welcoming, prompt but not pushy, attention to detail. We will be going back and taking friends/family.

Everything was Fantastic ! A cool rainy grey early evening ... Nice and warm and cosy inside with relaxing chilled music playing in the background. Great friendly attentive service. We ordered a mix of entree's that couldn't be faulted. . Fish Cakes, mini pork ribs, melt in your mouth lemon salt pepper calamari, chicken nibbles... then a main to share of "Chef's Special " spicy crispy crumbed chicken and fried rice ... Absolutely Delicious! And I Loved having Chard Farm Chardonnay : ) Thank You for a beautiful dinner !

Good coffee and nice food but service slow with staff not very coordinated. Almost $20 for a lamb pie with a tiny dot of relish seems a bit steep. It was a good pie however. Nice decor and views.

Great to see several vegan options in the cabinet and on the menu. I had the soup of the day (vegan, mixed-vegetable potage), served with bread (non-dairy spread is available), and I tried the vegan carrot dog. Both were good. The salads looked very good. There are pastries and sweet slices. Plant milks cost $1 extra for the hot drinks. One staff member may need some guidance on serving vegans.

For many cafes, if the view is gorgeous, the food is meh. As you can see from the photo, the view from the Suter Cafe is absolutely beautiful. Thankfully, so is the food and the service. We had one of the best eggs Benedict with salmon we’ve ever had, as well as a build-your-own brekkie that included super fresh and flavorsome eggs, sourdough and green salad. The coffee and lemon-ginger tonic (house made) were also as good as it gets. Topped off with attentive staff, and a serene view- this cafe is a winner!
Ken C — Google review
Overfalated, complicated and needlessly difficult to order from front cashier. Plain salty small cheese scone. No wifi, server says - f/off to the gallery and get a password (like attitude) . Pompous attitude from staff. Mocha was good, Latte not good. Good to see an older woman circulating the cafe being hospitable - and a shame your staff ruined it.

We've been to Chokdee a few times and enjoyed the food and service. However this evening 21 September we were disappointed. We were hurriedly pointed to a table, left menus and water with no explanation of specials. Others arrived, their order was taken and we were forgotten so we left. The restaurant was not busy. Found another Thai which was excellent in always. Shame.

Lombardi’s Ristorante, located at Queenstown's Hotel St Moritz, M Gallery by Sofitel, offers a delightful dining experience with Italian-inspired meals and an extensive pasta menu. Guests can enjoy the picturesque view of the steamboat 'Lady of the Lake' against the backdrop of the snow-capped Remarkables while sipping on specialty cocktails like the Honeynut Martinis.
I had a very pleasant experience at this restaurant. I’d especially like to highlight the waiter’s service: he was very kind, gave me great recommendations, and was always friendly, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The pizza was amazing: thin, crispy base and full of flavor. Congratulations to the chef for such a delicious dish. The dessert was good, though a bit too sweet and rich for my personal taste. Still, it was nicely made. Overall, the value for money and portion sizes are excellent. The place feels cozy and the location is very convenient. Definitely a spot I’d love to return to.

We had made a reservation for New Year's Eve for 2 people. When we arrived it was very full and crowded, as expected. So we made our way to a staff member to tell we had a reservation. We were told to wait outside because everything was full. The owner then stopped and said several times that it was full and we had to wait at least an hour for a free table. I asked, "Even though we have a reservation?" which was only answered with a "you see how full it is." While we decided to look for another place, he told my husband again that he was sorry but there was nothing he could do. My husband pointed out that it's frustrating because we made sure to have a reservation and we won't be able to wait an hour since I am pregnant (8th month). We were rushed inside to a free table and got apologies from owner and staff. Food was good (we've had pasta and pizza), but it would have been a kind gesture to at least get our softdrinks or at least the water on the house. While paying, the owner stopped by and apologized again. But in the same sentence, he also said how fat I look - which is exactly what a woman wants to hear on New Year's Eve while eight months pregnant. Even though the food was good, I can't really recommend the place. The treatment was not blunt but simply rude.
Rahel M — Google review
Three of us ate here last Sunday, 26.01.25. The food was spot on, we had spaghetti con gamberi x 2, penne premavero al polo, tiramisu, pana cotta cafe & tarte au pesce. The young French waiter did his best to manage all the customers during a busy period. The only letdown was having gone earlier to book an outside table. It was disappointing to arrive at our booked time to find there was no table available. The booking system is non- existent, and customers get placed as they arrive. We decided to wait a short while for an outside table to become available. Please just say outside dining is on a first come, first served basis.

Beautiful, minimalist cafe in central Nelson, with a specially curated menu to satisfy any taste buds. Service was friendly; staff were attentive, and kind

Looks lovely, but the lack of soft furnishing lead to a very loud atmosphere; so much so that the server could not hear when I asked for a large cappuccino and I ended up with a small. The coffee was good, but I still left disappointed. I also didn’t like the lack of prices on display. I was left with no idea how much I paid for each item. They also ‘got me’ on the Paywave toll, so I don’t believe they displayed fair warning about that either. Dodgy practices all round really. Response to owner: I was looking for the coffee prices and still couldn’t find them. Dodgy, was how it felt to me and that’s the point of a review. It’s my perspective based on the visit I had.

Beautiful spot to catch the morning sun. Large and clean space with plenty of tables inside and outside. Very spacious. Coffee was great. We ate Eggs Benedict and pancakes. Sour dough was great with eggs Benedict and eggs were cooked perfect. Bacon on both dishes was streaky and crispy. Fluffy pancakes. Both dishes were fresh and full of flavour. Kitchen is open so you can see the cleanliness of the space your food is prepared in. Customer service is warm, friendly and inviting.

This was hands down the best meal we’ve had in our 5 months travelling around NZ! We had a duck red curry, the tom yum calamari, coconut chicken skewers and ended off the meal with the banana sticky rice. the curry is so flavourful and goes amazingly well with the lychee and grapes. the duck was very tender too! It also tastes authentic and we felt like we were brought back to Thailand. the calamari was super fresh and the batter was so light and crispy. it was not rubbery at all. the chicken skewers were also very tender and delicious too. we were stuffed but could not resist ordering dessert - and we’re so glad we did. the warm sticky rice paired with the caramelised banana was a perfect match! the star of the show was definitely the red curry and the dessert. everything tasted authentically Thai but with a twist! we wish we had more time in Nelson so we could visit again and try everything on the menu. The service was also impeccable and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is situated next to the beach and has an alfresco dining area as well. We’re so glad we discovered this restaurant!

Cider mill
Nelson, known as New Zealand's craft beer capital and a top cider city, is home to several locally owned breweries. One standout is McCashins Brewery, popular for its wide variety of Stoke beers and Rochdale ciders. Since the 1980s, this venue has been at the forefront of innovative beverage experimentation. Located in the historic Rochdale Cider building in Stoke, it offers tastings, bistro meals, and tours.
I visited as somebody from out of town I was really impressed with the friendly and welcoming staff, great beer and equally as friendly regulars if in Nelson would really recommend dropping in for visit 👍🏼

My father is a big fan of the Stoke "Dark", and I am rather fond of the Pilsner - so when deciding on where to go for dinner, this was an obvious choice! We arrived and took a round of beers out into the spacious beer garden to catch the last of the sun. Plenty of seating and a nice relaxed atmosphere. The beers were cold and delicious. We then went in to dine, We ordered the chicken taco sharing platter as an entrée, and this was fine, my only complaint was the the chicken was a little overcooked, with the crumbed coating tasting a little burnt, crunchy and dry. The tacos were fresh and soft as were the vegetables. I then ordered the Fish and Chips, as did my father, while my wife ordered the Thai Mussels. Again, a little bit of a shame as the batter on my fish was a little overdone, I suspect the oil in the deep fryer was a little too hot. My father had the same but his fish was grilled, so didn't have the issue with the batter. The fish was blue cod and was fresh and tasty. The chips were chunky, crisp and tasty and the salad was the perfect accompaniment. My wife enjoyed the mussels, the coconut thai sauce really complimented the mussels, which were of a good size, fresh and perfectly cooked. The venue is nice and relaxing, with views through the windows of the brewery, and the toilets were tidy and easily accessible. While the batter on my fish was a little overdone, I am still giving this 4 stars as the rest of the experience was good.

Sunday 27th Jan 2019. Popped in for a late lunch after a long drive. Tasty food accompanied by a delightful selection beer for you to choose from. Ended up getting the poutine and spiced chicken wings and the Stoke Nelson Pale Ale (NPA). All so delicious! Great service a d relaxing atmosphere too! I do recommend.

Friendly service and good food. There is indoor seating and a beer garden if it's a good day. Prices are good and they do a brunch menu which ends at 11. It's a good option for a Sunday when other cafe/restaurants in Richmond are closed.

It's my first review on google, because here was horrible. Here's worst of worst in NZ. The beer and cider was great. But all the food tasted like frozen food. Fried squid was too much salty, chicken wings just no taste and only crispy. Pizza....it's just like a pizza flavor bread. And the staff response was very unkindly. I ordered Dark beer for takeaway by the plastic bottle and she gave me IPA with grumpy. If you want to waste money and you want to ruin your tongue, go for it.

We only had a quick stop here for a couple of beers, but it would be easy to lose an afternoon here. Great selection of beers, the food looked great (even thought I didn't get a chance to try it) and the venue was well set up and clean. The front of the building could do with some work - it looks like a disused warehouse, but definitely worth stopping by.

What a great place to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon. Excellent product. Great friendly bar staff. And thanks to Tim in the kitchen for the great food. You were right about the seafood pizza. Aunty Shirley loved her favourite salt and pepper squid.

I had a wonderful birthday lunch at McCashins yesterday with my family and friends and it was a lovely experience for everyone. The food and drinks were delicious and the staff were wonderful.

Nestled away from the hustle and bustle, The Baker's Coffee Shop is a charming French-style café that beckons with its rustic allure. Known for its mouthwatering baked goods, this hidden gem offers everything from artisanal breads to irresistible almond croissants and cinnamon morning buns. It's an ideal retreat for those seeking a cozy spot to enjoy a cup of coffee alongside delectable treats.
The coffee here was the best I had in NZ, so good. The staff are lovely, and kindly made us a couple of ham baguettes in the early morning before our road trip. The baguettes were very tasty and top quality. Thank you team!

This hidden away cafe is worth the effort to find. Not visible from the street it is on ground floor of a Radiology business. only a small sandwich sign outside. We arrived 10am on a Monday and I was a lil disappointed at the small selection of cabinet food available... particularly after the reviews I had read..... But the chocolate and date pastry was delish. The decor style is just a pleasure to the eye and service was both polite and prompt.

Good coffee and hot chocolate. Art on the hot chocolate was particularly spectacular. No WIFI though meaning I unfortunately had to engage in some conversation.

Great place, great coffee/earl grey and the almond croissant are amazing. I came here two times, just for the croissants. Staff is very friendly. No credit cards so don’t forget to bring cash

The interior design feature here has got my attention firstly . The old pieces plus new stuff works well. The tile paved on entrance floor and also some on kitchen wall,The kitchen shelve, the old bench desk second hand cabinetry, the old wood fire frame and the new concrete curve wall etc, all match comfortably well. I like sitting here for eating embraced by such nice atmosphere

The BEST almond croissants. Catered for our friend's wedding brunch beautifully, and so easy to collect! Thanks so much for looking after this aspect so well. The wedding was epic! Pictured is two examples of the wedding brunch, including slices of sourdough, pain au chocolat, and almond croissants supplied by The Baker's Coffee Shop.

The Bakers has become my regular cafe because the cinnamon morning buns are possibly the best pastries I have ever had. Worth going just for these. As a bonus, the coffee is always delicious and never sour, and the music and energy of the place is top tier. Nelson has so many fantastic offerings for coffee but the bakers has to be one of the best. It’s a little pricey but the whole experience makes it worth it.

Absolutely amazing pastries. Staffs are super friendly and welcoming. This will be my last cafe time in NZ. Thank you for making me good memories. I will miss the bread mmmmm. Atmosphere in the cafe is warm and cozy. I love it.
