Restaurant
Nero Restaurant, located in Palmerston North, has been a local favorite for 20 years. Housed in a historic building with landscaped grounds and a charming courtyard, it offers various spaces for special meals or events. The cozy and intimate atmosphere makes it perfect for a romantic evening out. The food is not only delicious but also beautifully presented, and the service is friendly yet highly professional.
When I first dined here 2 years ago, I was not particularly impressed overall, due to the high price point and somewhat disappointing flavours. However, upon revisiting it recently with my partner, I am pleased to say that I have left with a much more positive impression. As soon as we walked through the doors, we were greeted by a big welcoming smile and led to our table. After ordering, we were surprised to be presented with a complimentary pani puri filled with a delightfully sweet and savoury walnut cream. These were a great way to whet our appetites and really set the tone for the evening. We decided on the dumpling special and venison carpaccio for our entrees. The dumplings were absolutely bursting with umami flavours from the shrimp inside, complemented by chilli crisp and peanuts on top. In contrast, the venison was a delicate dish with incredibly tender meat that kept us wanting more. For our mains, we decided on the beef filet and lamb, with a side of truffle fries. Both of these were extremely tender and well seasoned, and we enjoyed the various flavours that the garnishes offered. The truffle fries were crispy and very flavourful, especially when accompanied by the creme fraiche on the side. The dessert we shared was the tiramisu. This was a fantastic way to end the meal, being a decadent and flavourful dish. Overall, Nero has proven itself to be a wonderful restaurant with great flavours not to be found elsewhere. Next time you want to treat yourself or a loved one, it cannot be recommended enough.

Best restaurant in Palmy for celebrating special occasions. Best steak in Palmy. Very tender and flavourful. Lamb was also cooked to perfection. Went there to celebrate my friend's birthday and they even prepped the dessert special for her. Definitely coming back!
Kenny W — Google review
Beautiful food and presented well. Unfortunately, dessert was a little too sweet for my taste amd the meringue was too hard and solid for us to cut through (although-others at the table loved them 😊👍). Overall great experience with great company and staff were excellent and accommodating 🥰

Booked here for a birthday dinner and the meal was incredible. Best dinner experience for us in Palmy. We were welcomed in from the cold despite turning up slightly earlier than booked, with warm friendly smiling faces. The atmosphere was cosy but classy. The amuse bouche for the evening had cashew cream which I can’t eat, but Scott had already planned a special amuse bouche for us (which was his pate - absolutely great because we were both really close to ordering that as a starter!) We both had the prawn and shrimp ravioli with citrus butter sauce and salmon caviar for starter. This is without a doubt the nicest pasta dish we have had at a restaurant. Flavours were incredible and we both wanted more. All of the dishes were fantastic but this was my favourite of the night. We both had the pork belly with kumara and orange purée, sage lemon and Gruyère arancini, crackling and house-made apple & remoulade salad for main. Ordered a side of duck fat potatoes too. Absolutely delicious. Flavourful, exciting, everything perfectly cooked, and it was fine dining and hearty at the same time. For dessert we had the creme brûlée and the tiramisu. Perfect ending to a meal. Simple dishes done very well and just the right amount of sweetness too - they weren’t sickly sweet. You could taste every individual component of each course. Each of us had two glasses of delicious white wine throughout the meal from their extensive and well thought out wine list. The team is fantastic and our server, Holly, was very attentive especially to my allergies, and double checked everything for us. She went above and beyond and she always had a smile on her face, and we felt very comfortable in the restaurant. I would wholeheartedly recommend Nero to anybody who wants to experience a fantastic dining atmosphere in Palmy. Thank you for making a good birthday great!

A very nice restaurant, upon arrival the caterers were kind and engaging, even greeted us with a welcoming entree. All n all the food was perfect especially with portioning. Holy shit the steak was great as well and id recommend the fries with it. Thanks for having me and my partner !! Enjoyed our time with you :)

This restaurant is a perfection for a successful dinner ! Very tasty food, and a pleasant atmosphere. A great find, for a very good experience !

We went here for the first time for our 18th wedding anniversary. It has a cozy, intimate atmosphere and was lovely and warm on a cold evening. Our food was divine and the service was friendly but also highly professional. We loved our evening at Nero.

The food was excellent, friendly staff. Unfortunately, table setting was not matching our expectation. Examples: cuttlery was cheap (low quality), the table top was injection molded plastic, no table cloth, paper napkin.

If you're seeking a dining experience that exudes sophistication, look no further than Little Savanna. This charming restaurant boasts an inviting ambiance with its stylish wood and steel decor, complemented by plush leather seating and a cozy fire. The culinary journey here is a delightful fusion of South African and New Zealand flavors, expertly crafted by a talented South African-Kiwi couple.
We really like this restaurant. One night we had lamb rack and it was as good as it gets. Another night I had scotch fillet and it was tough. It looked great steak but tough to eat. Likely it was too fresh. The restaurant took the price of another dish off the bill as compensation. I would rather had a great steak. Good wine list. We will go back again sometime.
Robin D — Google review
Very nice food and luxurious feeling. We really enjoyed the fish of the day. However, the dry aged beef was a bit salty, and they cooked a bit too rare rather than medium rare as we ordered. Nice cocktails and beers. They are usually very busy so we booked way in advance, and when we arrived we still waited pass our proposed meal time. Highly recommend to book in advance especially if you come in group.

Writing this review while I'm still here. The meal was delicious, I couldn't fault it. The service was top tier and the experience was awesome overall. Staff were upbeat & the positivity was contagious. A special thanks to Sophie for her amazing service too!

We were warmly greeted and seated despite not having a reservation. Mr B walked us through a comprehensive menu (was a difficult choice, to many great options 😃) we ended up with a steak/rib combo and steak espetada. Needless to say the meal was fantastic and along with great service and a comfortable environment marks Little Savanna as a place to visit again. Highly recommend. Thanks
Matt H — Google review
What a beautiful venue and delicious food! We booked a table for lunch to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We shared a yummy biltong starter. My husband enjoyed his Scotch fillet steak, and I treated myself to Beef Espetada, which were both cooked as requested. Waitresses were friendly and attentive. We are definitely coming back to try more dishes!
Iveta G — Google review
Little Savannah is truly an outstanding restaurant. From the moment you arrive, the service is warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food is beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, with every dish showing attention to detail and a passion for flavour. The ambience is second to none – the inviting fireplaces create a cosy, elegant atmosphere that makes the whole experience even more special. We had a wonderful time, and it was clear that everyone in our group felt the same. Highly recommended for an unforgettable night out.
Brett A — Google review
Amazing experience. Meals were lovely, service above and beyond. My mum was a borderline "problem diner", didn't like the first glass of wine she had. Service was happy to try and accommodate her taste with 4 wine sample tasters. Forgot to mention Gluten free for dessert, happly swapped it after the fact, even after saying no big deal will eat around it. Fantastic.
Elvie N — Google review
This is definitely a good place but only for occasions given the price tag. We went for a birthday with a grp of six and had their meat platter 150$ (had pork taken out n replaced with beef but doubt the quantity was same.) so not worth the price . Probably better to order individually. Pasta was chicken and for 43$ - this was nothing to write home about. Chicken espetada @56$ was small portion was also nothing special. We had garlic bread 13$ (6 pieces small) - Tomato basil bread was better 12.5$ and chicken liver 24$ (which was a little too creamy) Mocktails for 16$ r definitely overpriced. Soft drinks around 6-8$ Overall their individual meat dishes are the go to options. Rest if avoid. Overall bill for 6 people 360$! (60$ / head with sharing and all of us had a little bit to eat prior to reaching)

Izakaya restaurant
Yatai Japanese Izakaya Restaurant is a hidden gem just minutes away from downtown Palmerston North. The restaurant offers a fantastic dining experience with delicious and fresh food, an extensive selection of drinks, and friendly and efficient staff. It's a great place for a family dinner, offering outstanding Japanese shared dishes and varied desserts perfect for sharing. While some find it expensive with small portions, the delicious food makes it worth the price.
A fabulous place for a family dinner, service was great and the food was outstanding. The flavours all worked really well. The style of Japanese shared dishes was really nice and added to the vibe of the restaurant. The varied desserts were nice and the portions were perfect for sharing.

This is the best scallop dish we have in NZ. And the grilled beef is juice and good. But we waste more than one and half hour to wait my food, it seems so crazy. Just like other clients said, food is fantastic, but...
Carol L — Google review
This is a Nice Japanese restaurant. And their best dish is sashimi. Rests of them are ok. I had their set serving for one person 46$. This included sashimi (the server wasn’t knowledgeable of the fish except the salmon.) (16$) 4piece of tuna + 3 pieces of another fish and 2 of salmon. The Second dish GESO AGE. was fried squid tentacles and this was nothing to write about. (14$) The last dish was KUSHIAGE. Fried chicken + beef + mushroom skewer (4$) each . Minimum 4 skewers. This ok. Mushroom was prolly the best. Lastly, as I wasn’t even really half full; I had the KIMUCHI PRAWNS. This was ok too. Half dish (13.50$) . Try some other dishes. Dumplings might be good.. Overall 3 for the food. However the serving size were small. Certainly recommended but expensive.
Ahsan S — Google review
Cosy restaurant but the way tableswere arranged made it look a little crowded. The waiter was informative, friendly and attentive. The food however was average. Beef Tataki was ok, nothing special; Chicken Kimuchi Stir-fry only has a handful of 2cm long chicken pieces in it; Grilled Squid was tender but has no flavour (could be better if its accompanied with a more authentic Japanese sauce rather than mayo); Renkon salad was nice and light, but very small, does not worth $15. Overall, not worth the money.

Japanese regional restaurant
Restaurant
HARU Japanese Restaurant, located on Broadway Avenue in Palmerston North, is a popular spot for top-notch Japanese cuisine. The restaurant's intimate and moody setting makes it perfect for social dinners with friends before catching a movie or show. With an all-wooden interior that exudes warmth and rustic charm, HARU offers meticulously presented and delicious food. It's recommended to make reservations in advance due to its popularity.
Our first time here. We didn't book (I would suggest this!) however, they managed to get us a table for a quick meal which was great. The service was fast and polite. The food came out hot and cooked absolutely perfect. The chicken was good value and tasted amazing, the salmon tasted amazing but a little more fish would have been nice. The only thing I would suggest is dim the lights a bit for a snug atmosphere - but please don't let this put you off! We had a wee date night and it was delicious and reasonably priced. We'll be back thanks guys
Ian W — Google review
We read the reviews and followed the advice of booking ahead, very simple via the online booking system. This is a very busy restaurant, and we understand why. We had a fantastic evening with absolutely delicious authentic food, umeshu, and sake. 100% recommend the mochi donut and platters. Friendly attentive service, and a special touch or two added for our occasion. I believe the pricing reflects the quality of what you receive here. We will definitely be dining here again in the future. Thank you for making our evening feel a little extra special.

Amazing food! This is the best food I have had in the whole of New Zealand! The beef tataki is to die for! Everything is cooked to perfection, and every bite is truly amazing! In the past 2 months we have been 5+ times, and I would go every single day if I could! If you get the chance to dine here you won't regret it! I think about this place for weeks after going here!
Mike B — Google review
We went to Haru Japanese Restaurant in Palmerston for Father’s Day and were pleasantly impressed. My partner ordered one of the platters and loved the variety lots of little dishes to try, generous portions, and he left very full and happy. I got the sushi and chicken karaage. I’m quite a fussy eater, but they accommodated me really well, and both dishes were fresh and tasty. My mum and brother shared two of the sizzling plates the chicken could’ve used a bit more flavour, but the beef was beautifully marinated and paired nicely with the rice on the side. My dad had the wafu beef (scotch fillet) and absolutely enjoyed every bite, especially the sauce the steak was served in. Overall, if you’re looking for something different in Palmerston, I’d highly recommend Haru. Great variety, friendly service, and something for everyone!
Casey H — Google review
Brilliant restaurant. Loved all the food we ordered. Delicious sharing platters with generous servings. Friendly service. Food was served in 15 to 20 minutes, even when the restaurant was fully booked. I will definitely come back and recommend this place.

🍗 Massive portion for the chicken miso katsu! Flavour was authentic and the batter was perfectly crunchy. Served with purple rice and miso soup. Worth $32! 🍮 crème brûlée had the most beautiful glaze on top and custard underneath. Served with green tea icecream! $18 was pricey for the size though. 🍩 mochi donuts were exceptional! Stretchy inside and crispy on the outside - coated with sugar and paired with chocolate/cream on the side. $18 Can definitely see why this is a gem in Palmerston North 😋 so many menu options to select from!
Quennie — Google review
Great experience from entry to exit with the food standing out more than the amazing customer service. had great laughs with staff who initiated conversation with warm and friendly smiles to brighten the atmosphere. Ellie’s recommendation hit the spot for the entire table. Most definitely seek assistance if undecided about the appealing menu which will have you wanting to go back to try what you missed out on. Dining overall experience exceeds 5 stars all round.

Nestled in the heart of Palmerston North's CBD, Saigon Corner is a delightful haven for lovers of Vietnamese street food. This cozy eatery serves up an array of mouthwatering dishes, from crispy spring rolls to hearty bowls of spicy beef pho and chicken noodle soup that boasts a rich broth made with tender chicken thigh. The inviting atmosphere and friendly staff make it an ideal spot for both lunch and dinner dates.
This restaurant has both outdoor and indoor seating. Simply furnished but yet gives a very pleasant dining experience. The waiter at the order counter has a sunshine smile! Very friendly service and the food was good. The beef in the pho was cooked to the perfect texture and tasted wonderful. The portion was generous too! Can’t say the same for the chicken pho. Chicken is cooked from frozen chicken. I wouldn’t recommend the chicken pho. Go for the beef pho. The dip for the deep fried spring rolls was very appetising. Spring rolls is a go for.

The chicken curry and spring roll were amazing - they tasted fresh and full of flavor! 😋 Staffs were very friendly as well

10/10 – Absolutely Delicious! I ordered from here via Uber Eats tonight and WOW 🤯 every flavour was fantastic! I had the chicken and lemongrass curry with rice, and the flavours were absolutely sensational. I also got the entrée for two, which included a variety of homemade spring rolls (each one unique and delicious), fresh summer rolls, and prawns in a surprisingly tasty crumb. The popcorn chicken was a hit too! Portions weren’t huge, but everything was so flavourful and satisfying. I really enjoyed these dishes – will definitely be ordering again!

It is our first time here and we have a marvellous time. Our food came out fast. We had Lemon Grass Beef with Noodles, Stir Fried Prawns with Rice and Salad and Vietnamese Coffee with Condensed Milk. They were all tasty and well seasoned. We will definitely come back again.

Have always enjoyed the pho at Saigon corner! Def the best in Palmy if not in NZ. Had the chance to get them to do catering for an education event too and it was simply amazing and for a good price. The staff was very accommodating too for my late pick up even though they were supposed to close early on that day. Highly recommend!

The noodle salad appeared enticing and tasty, especially the crispy roast pork. The pho broth has a robust beef flavor, but it's salty and should be served with more vegetables and herbs. The staff is cheerful and welcoming. I plan to return and sample more dishes.

Had rice paper rolls with peanut sauce 11$ which were good Also had beef noodle soup. This was 19$. Not to my liking. And fried chicken which was really good. 8$. Good menu but beef noodle didn’t work out for me . Certainly worth a visit. Will try something different next time..

Love the squid salad, so nice and generous, good prices and everything is always so fresh. Nice decor, good and fast service. Visited again recently after lockdown, the service was wonderful and complied to the covid-19 rules. I had the hot Vietnamese coffee to drink which was amazing! We got the chicken skewers appetizer, coconut crumbed prawns and popcorn chicken. And again I got the delicious squid salad. I bought the special duck curry home for my partners dinner and he also loved it! Will definitely be returning

Brew Union Brewing Co is a popular brew pub and eatery located in the former Manawatu Meatworks. The venue features a small-scale brewery at the front, over 20 taps offering Brew Union's own pours and local selections, including Swamp Juice Hazy IPA. The original brickwork and wooden beams create an open and lively atmosphere, complemented by live music, wood-fired pizzas, and a social beer garden with picnic tables. Visitors can enjoy freshly brewed house beers alongside delicious food offerings.
Really good range of food for pretty reasonable prices. We had 7 people (6 adults and a child) comfortably seated. Got the loaded fries, 4 burgers, fried chicken and the kids cheese pizza. Everything tasted good and was served pretty quick. There's a lot of beer and a decent range of other beverages (including cocktails and non alcoholic drinks), colouring for the kids to be entertained. Only thing / suggestion would be to have a kids cheeseburger included (there's 3 options, cheeseburger would be a great addition to have imo)

I was really happy with my food & drink. Cooked and presented well! Although, I found it odd why some menu items (I.e steak) were on the printed menu but not on the QR code menu so with my order I had to get up and order at the counter.

Went to Brew Union on Sunday and had the cauliflower bites and fries, absolutely delicious! The cauliflower bites were fresh, hot, and came with a yummy dipping sauce, while the fries were perfectly crispy and so tasty. Love that they offer proper vegan options at a pub, including vegan cheese. The staff were really lovely. They actually made a mistake with our drinks, but were super friendly about it and sorted it straight away, even giving us the corrected drinks on the house, which was kind. The whole place had a great atmosphere. As a vegan, I don’t usually enjoy going to pubs, but Brew Union makes it easy with their menu and their service. Definitely recommend for both the food and the experience!

We chose Brew Union as a spot for dinner before seeing some live music. Turned out to be a great choice. Tried a couple of the local brews and we enjoyed a few smaller plates and a smash burger. Extremely tasty. It was quite busy but our table service was top notch. Very friendly and knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble.

Ambient atmosphere, decor is cool and you can go in via King St or Broadway Ave. Inclusive menu, the food was awesome. I ordered the Lebonese Salad and they had the option of tofu instead of meat. The only criticisms are there were too many of those hard, crunchy noodles and when I went outside for about 10 minutes got back to find they'd cleared the table so you need to get someone in your group to guard your meal and cocktail :/

Nestled in the charming Hokowhitu area, The Fat Farmer is a delightful bistro that beautifully captures the essence of Palmerston North's agricultural roots. With its vintage-inspired decor and warm hospitality, this eatery offers an inviting atmosphere for diners to enjoy.
Had such a great experience at The Fat Farmer! Taylor was absolutely amazing, she made us feel so comfortable and well looked after. Her service was warm and attentive☺️ We ordered the chicken boa buns, fries and of course palmys best rose buds! Food was full of flavour, fresh, delicious and beautifully presented! Highly recommend this spot for great food, drinks and even better service. Thanks again to Taylor and the Team☺️

Quaint place tucked away. Would say the atmosphere is more of a pub style where you'd get together after work for a few drinks and nibbles. One thing to note is that the meals are shared meals, so more like entree sized items that you share. On saying that the quality of the food was really good. There was only one choice for kids. Was a tad cramped for space and rather loud. The service was fantastic and drinks made well.

Absolutely fantastic! Friendly from the second you walk in the door! We could not make up our minds so asked the staff to pick for us, let's say we were definitely pleasantly surprised! Nice hearty food cooked well nothing you don't need on it, well seasoned. Very warm and inviting best place I've eaten in Palmy by far!
Sandra W — Google review
Consistently amazing food and the service is always great. The atmosphere is casual, more of a pub vibe, so no need to dress up like you’re going to a fancy restaurant. One tip: if you don’t want to hear, or have people hear your private conversations without whispering, request a bar leaner or come with a bigger group so you can be seated out the back where the tables are more spaced out. The three 2 person tables are much too close together, which can feel cramped. Also love that the menu changes often, giving you the chance to try new things every visit.
Natalie D — Google review
Great vibe, service, and food. We went here for my mums 70th, it was perfect. We were a group of 4 kids under 12 years old and 8 adults. We had a set menu, which was excellent. Mum was able to switch a few dishes around beforehand, so when we arrived, no decisions had to be made, and we could just relax and enjoy the evening. The bao, prawns, and crispy chicken were excellent. The lamb, green vegetables, and chips were a lot of food. We ended up with quite a bit of takeaway. The staff were excellent! Friendly and efficient. The vibe was great. It's a busy place, really comfortable with casual decor, bar / restaurant vibe, loud yet you could easily hear everyone at your own table. I can highly recommend this place!

First time at Fat Farmer last night and it was for my birthday! The atmosphere was amazing, food was delicious (I’ll be dreaming about the goats cheese, lamb, and kale 🤤), and the service was a 10/10. Georgia was a GREAT waitress, and made sure we were happy and was happy to be there. She also did a group photo shoot for us so we had to give her 5 ⭐️. All in all amazing experience with Fat Farmer and I will definitely be back again!

Nestled in the heart of Palmerston North, Speight's Ale House Palmerston North offers a delightful blend of nostalgia and modern dining. The interior decor evokes memories of lively dance halls from decades past, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. During my visit, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food; I opted for the pan-seared salmon, which was perfectly cooked with a crispy skin and paired beautifully with baby turnips and homemade aioli.
Well what a find!! We pipped in for a beer and decided to stay for lunch- and what an absolutely great move!! I had the salmon which was delicately pan seared with a crunchy , lightly salted skin and a touch of wasabi. The dish was accompanied with baby turnips, baby roast potatoes, wilted Asian greens and a homemade aioli( I could tell chef had made his own and I asked and this was confirmed) . Portion sizes generous and just right. Hubby the chef’s special- the lamb dish. Again, superb- juicy, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Staff were friendly, efficient and welcoming. We made sure to tell them we were from Hamilton and how impressed we were with what the chef is doing. Highly recommended!!

We got a voucher from the restaurant, so we gave it a try. The food was definitely delicious. Personally, I thought the waiting time was a bit long (almost half an hour for fish and chips). The staffs were nice and friendly.

Had the Cardrona Beef Burger, Crème Brûlée + husband had bangers n’ mash + sticky date pudding. We were a party of 14 so large range of meals and the consensus was the same: food was excellent but not big enough, especially at the price point ($30+ for a main meal, some much higher and smaller). You can see the portion size of the chips provided. Staff had excellent service, and food was provided to the entire party at the same time (all hot) just after an hour of ordering, so timing was very good for a party of that size (entrees were out in about 30mins). Beware the female bathroom sink: tsunami warning required. Overall, would happily return but knocked a star off for potion size and the unexpected tidal wave.

Great food, staff were absolutely lovely, music was good. Food was really good, chips were seasoned well, dumplings were juicy, burgers were tasty. All food was seasoned well didn't even need to use salt or pepper. Our Mister 8 month old, loved his chips. Very accommodating to our needs, such as needing a high chair and being able to get a separate bowl of chips for our boy to enjoy.

Expensive for the amount. Decent lamb hock, average fish of the day. Didn't allow us to sit before members have arrived. Took 30-40 minutes for food to come out (and the meat wasn't hot enough for my liking)

Food was good, $50 good? It was a 300grm steak cook M/R with mash potatoes and 2 onion rings. The steak was good, nice and the mash was very yummy with gravy. I would go back but wouldn't get the steak again, the fish the person had next to me looked good.

Visited with a group today for drinks. Excellent service and great quality drinks. I also had a dessert and it was fantastic in flavour but on the small side. Definitely will be back even if for the service alone as it was that good. The ladies on the bar deserve a pay rise.

Such a lovely night out. Staff were super lovely. Our burgers were amazing and the atmosphere was superbly laid back. Only thing I will say is that the tables upstairs seemed quite close together which made it feel a little squished but very cozy 🤣

If you like malayali food, this is the place to check out. It was worth drive from Wellington to Palmerston north. Duck was too good. And service was awesome. We will be back for sure. Thank you for serving us.

He a very tasty dinner here yesterday. South Indian cuisine is a little different to your classic Indian takeaway and it was a welcome new experience. The starters were yummy, curry’s tasty, paratha bread nice and cocktails delicious. The waiter was patient with all our questions about the dishes and periodically checked in to offer drinks and see that we were enjoying our meals. Overall a very good experience

Probably THE best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. The story behind this restaurant was beautiful and it was nice that the staff were inclined to share this. While the restaurant name is a bit of a laugh, the meaning behind it and the back ground is truly beautiful in what they’re wanting to share through the food, service and overall atmosphere of the restaurant. The food is great portion size (could not eat it all!) is so generous and the quality is amazing. I love that it’s South Indian food too which you don’t see too much of it around, very authentic! When we’re back in Palmy we will definitely come back, highly recommend!

I dropped in here to grab a takeaway meal before my wife returned from overseas. Absolutely delicious meal, I got a lamb korma and a butter chicken, some breads and these lentil donut thingies. One of the best takeaway meals I have ever had.
Brian S — Google review
The food was delicious, and the waitress was very cute and sweet. However, the drink order was wrong despite being repeated, and both entrees and mains arrived at the same time, even though we clearly asked for entrees first and mains later. It ended up being the complete opposite of what we wanted. The staff also didn’t check back for a long time, so we couldn’t order more drinks. No beers on tap, and $12 for a can of beer is very expensive.
S ( — Google review
The service here is fantastic and they have a large range of craft beers. We had a variety of dishes: prawn, duck, chickpeas and vege korma. Some of the dishes ordered as mild were a bit too hot compared to those ordered as medium. This seems to be consistent across our experiences eating here. The breads are very tasty and the desserts can be very nice. Unfortunately they had run out of mango lassi which was sad.

Visited recently on a Sunday evening, didn't need to book and nice ambience in restaurant. Service very good and personable. As we were being seated we were offered water, still or sparkling - and we took still. Menu good, but the food was lacking in flavour and everything had cheese sauce - even the vegetables. Vegetarian pumpkin pasta dish had no flavour and was most disappointing. When it came to pay the bill, we were charged $11 for the water. We did not ask for 'bottled', we asked for 'still' and were not given an option of tap water or bottled as I would have expected if a charge of $11 was to be incurred. When we questioned the cost of the water, we were told it was restaurant policy. Would not return, sorry ;-( firstly as the food wasn't good enough for the price and being charged $11 for water, was not acceptable.

Asian restaurant
Yeda Restaurant is a delightful culinary destination where you can embark on an Asian flavor journey without leaving New Zealand. Specializing in grilled dishes and all-day dim sum, Yeda artfully combines traditional tastes from various Asian countries with local ingredients. The menu features a variety of shareable plates, including Korean kimchi pork, Chinese Pork & Chive dumplings, and Indonesian nasi goreng. Guests can also enjoy refreshing Japanese sake or unique mocktails to complement their meals.
Absolutely loved our lunch at Yeda in Palmerston North! The service was 10/10 super friendly and attentive. The open kitchen was such a cool touch, it was so fun watching the chefs cook (especially when you could see the fire!). Me and my partner ordered the crispy pork, spicy squid, duck breast, and chicken avocado sushi, and everything hit the spot. The crispy pork was nicely seasoned just a little more cooked/dry than I would’ve liked but still tasty. The sushi was delicious and perfectly done, the squid was fresh and came with a really nice sauce, and the duck was the absolute highlight! We were skeptical at first because the skin wasn’t crispy, but it ended up being amazing so tender and beautifully paired with bok choy. There’s such a great range of options on the menu, and prices are pretty reasonable too (around $85 for everything we ordered). Definitely recommend and can’t wait to come back!

We (2) recently visited Yeda for lunch & got a few side dishes so we could have a bit of everything The place is spacious, great for groups or just a simple lunch or dinner date The food was nice & tasty as expected We received complimentary Miso on arrival We ordered Sweet n sour pork (changed the rice to noodles extra $3) Spring rolls, Sushi, takoyaki, teriyaki chicken w rice & My favorite out of the dishes was the Pork Gyoza Service was fast and waitress staff was attentive however taking plates from our table while we’re still eating and could clearly see there was still food in our plates to be eaten is quite rude & a big No from me! I get it if we’d finished what we were eating, it was almost like they wanted you in & out that’s the vibe I was getting, yet the place wasn’t packed. We will come back in future, let’s hope the waitress staff take this feedback on

A friend recommended we visit Yeda, I'm glad we took up the recommendation. Wife & I chose the $15 lunch deal - starter & a main plus a miso soup. The food was very good 👍 The service was great 👍 There are so many options on the menu, but you can't help but think another visit is on the card's surely.

I love going to Yeda! The menu is fantastic and really accommodates all dietary requirements, which is such a bonus. The portions are huge for the price, and everything is so tasty. I always get the peanut satay noodle soup (so good!) and my partner goes for the tom yum fried rice. It can get a little loud at times, but the atmosphere and vibe are great. We come here often because the food and service are consistently good. I did have one awkward dining experience in the past that left me feeling a bit let down, but I emailed the manager and they were incredibly kind and responsive. They apologised, offered compensation, and really took the feedback on board. That kind of openness and willingness to improve makes me happy to keep coming back.

Had lunch. We had sizzling chicken /‘d beef sizzling. 21$ each with rice and the food was worth the value. Service was a little interesting but all good. Certainly recommended.. ===== Visited again multiple times 2024. Food quality has improved with acceptable prices. (Plus halal) Had chicken 23$/ szilling 23.5$ / dumpling 10$ -3 pieces/ sushi 21 and other dishes. Certainly recommended.

Food very good. We had the sizzling beef and one of the duck dishes. $8.50 for a small portion of rice though. Seating isn't that comfortable and when we went, a few child diners as well (so if you don't like kids, beware).

I come here often and the food is always Delicious! Great prices, they’re fast at cooking so you don’t have to wait long for the food. The sushi and sweet and sour pork is definitely one of my favourites and the Ice Chocolates amazing too. I definitely recommend booking a table because they often get busy.

Absolutely outstanding food. We got takeaways and we were so impressed with everything from Yeda. The online menu had our mouths watering. Actually dribbling. Lol. The selection is amazing. The list of dishes just kept scrolling to more and more delicious looking meals. The food was ready so quickly, it was crazy. Every dish was perfect. I don't mean good. Perfect! We ordered way to much food but couldn't stop eating it. The cost of all that outstanding food was under $70.00 Thats 7 different dishes and separated rise. 10/10 ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Highly recommend. I had a fantastic experience at Indian indulgence in Palmerston North. I was visiting family & my Nanna took me here to enjoy the my last day in NZ. The food was exceptional and so flavorful! I like the spice levels and the samosas were not what I expected… they were so delicious. Back home in the US the samosas come in a triangular form where as these were served in a unique crushed up form mixed with more delicious sauces. I totally recommend dining at Indian indulgence the food is very satisfying and the service is great very kind people. I can’t wait to come back on my next visit to Palmerston North NZ.

Decided to have Indian food today, ambiance is great especially with our 3 little ones! Staff was friendly, good portion of food for its price. Their garlic cheese naan is a must try! Although we found their mango lassi too sweet for us, and beef might need a bit more tender. Otherwise, better experience compared to other indian restos in Palmy!

This place is incredible! After leaving palmy for Wellington I find myself heading back just for Indian Indulgence. I don’t know what the team do different but I haven’t found a comparable restaurant in palmy or Wellington. Highly recommend any of the starters especially the ones that come with the magic green sauce! While the restaurant feels a little like a doctors waiting room and there can sometimes be a little bit of a language barrier. I’ve come to associate this with the best Indian I’ve ever had. I eat a lot of Indian.

Bit gutted after our last meal here. This was our second time getting dinner from here, the first time was great and we thought we had finally found our go to Indian place in Palmy. However we were a bit disappointed after our last meal from here. The chicken, was yuck and we couldn’t eat it. We ended up only having the sauce. We ordered medium spice, while one curry had spice the other definitely didn’t have any.

30.05.2025 Extremely disappointed with the new ownership and terrible service. I’ve been a regular here for a long time, but after tonight’s experience, I won’t be returning. The moment I walked in, no one greeted me or showed me to a table. I wasn’t given a menu, so I stood at the counter to order—yet no one acknowledged me for over a minute. Finally, a woman (who seemed to be the owner) came over and rudely asked where I was sitting. I told her I hadn’t been seated yet, and she just said, “Go to table 16.” When I replied that I wanted to order first, she impatiently asked what I wanted. Since I hadn’t even seen a menu, I just asked for combination fried rice. She tried to push me to order more, and when I declined, she became visibly annoyed. Her attitude was hostile from start to finish—no smile, just rudeness. I’ve spent a lot of money here over the years, but after this awful treatment, I won’t waste another dime. The place has gone downhill, and the service is now unbearable. Avoid unless you enjoy being treated poorly. Updated on 01.06.2025 Dear Manager I’m writing to address some discrepancies between your review of my recent visit and what I actually experienced at your restaurant. First, you mentioned that I viewed the menu on board, but only part of the menu was displayed, and fried rice wasn’t even listed. Had it been available, I would have considered ordering it. Second, you claimed that the staff greeted me with a "stiff smile." The reality was quite different—I stood at the counter while a young staff member glanced at me, then turned to another colleague (who seemed more senior) before finally asking for my order with what I can only describe as a cold expression. There was no warm greeting or smile, stiff or otherwise. Third, regarding the ordering process, I simply wanted to place my order first since I was still deciding. I didn’t catch whether the staff asked about dine-in or takeaway initially, but her reaction to my request was unnecessarily abrupt. Are your staff required to follow rigid steps (like confirming dine-in/takeaway before taking the order), or is there flexibility to accommodate the customer’s preference? As for seating, I was asked, “Table 2 or Table 16?” but I had no idea where either table was, nor was it clear whether she meant “table for two” or “Table 2.” The interaction felt rushed, and her impatience only added to my confusion. Lastly, you accused me of being rude to a staff member who was supposedly on her first day. I had no way of knowing she was in training—my comment was simply expressing hope that next time, the staff would provide menus promptly. I was upset (not rude—there’s a difference), and as a paying customer, I expect basic service standards regardless of whether an employee is new or experienced. Instead of arguing with customers over misunderstandings, I suggest focusing on improving staff training and service quality. At this point, I can’t recommend your restaurant to others, which is unfortunate. I hope this feedback helps you address these issues moving forward. Best regards One disappointed customer
Xiao H — Google review
Fantastic experience taking our two children out for their first noodles and dumplings. From order to plate, everything was quick and seamless. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the lovely lady who greeted and seated us at table 17 and kindly helped us with a high chair for our son. I’m sorry I didn’t catch your name, but I take my hat off to you — the way you accommodated large groups, organised tables, and kept everything running so smoothly was impressive. A very busy restaurant clearly run by people who care. Well done — we’ll be back!

Had a delicious meal from here! Desk ladies were lovely and helpful and the BBQ pork fried noodles were amazing! The wonton soup was refreshing but if there's one thing you need to get it is the dessert dumplings. They were fantastic! Dumplings filled with lemon curd, caramel, chocolate with sauces and whipped cream- utterly fantastic! Great place, reasonably priced and great food.

As a first responder they advertised a 10 % discount. Ordered tonight and was not given discount despite being in uniform. Also food was ready in take away bag for over 10 minutes. Girl were distracted with folding napkins instead of customer service. Also no apology when they called my number (I was seated in front of their service counter the entire time). Would not recommend. And false advertising for First Respondef discount!
Joel S — Google review
I’m not usually one to leave a bad review unless I’m actually thoroughly disappointed with service. My partner is thoroughly rattled at her most recent interaction, two gluten free half portions of two different meals were ordered and unfortunately they messed up the order and brought out two half portions of the same meal, making one meal portion. Despite the cashier knowing they had messed up, there was no offer of rectifying the mistake and additionally would not offer a refund of the extra charge for two seperate half portions even though we only received ONE full portion of ONE meal. I understand mistakes happen in the kitchen, but I also believe in offering to fix an issue when you’re made a mistake. Generally we quite like this establishment but this has left us both quite peeved and unlikely to return any time soon.

Food was plated beautifully, portioned correctly and taste was spectacular. The service was magical, didn't need to ask who's birthday it was on the night and suprised with desert chocolate writing wishes to make the night special. We tried the new menu, that was not updated on the menu. I would recommend not to look at the menu, as the menu changes. Which isn't a bad thing, just don't set your hope on specific items on the menu. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our time being served with delicious food.

WOW! Managed to get a last minute booking for 2 people on a Saturday night (30/08/25). We had seen the menu online to get an idea of what to expect. When we arrived we noticed the menu was different to what was on the website, but the options still looked great, so we quickly chose an alternative meal. I have a severe tree nut allergy which they catered to easily and our server was very mindful to that. We loved every single thing we ate and drank. We had 4 different wines throughout the meal, a beautiful goats cheese and beetroot 3-ways starter (normally has walnuts too) and the battered king prawns. Both excellent! We had the main for 2 - the best beef short rib I’ve ever had. Braised mustard seeds, black garlic glaze, bearnaise sauce and pickles. They recommend 2 sides - we ordered 3. Creamy smooth Agria mash, charred Brussel sprouts with kaffir lime oil (and usually almonds), and roasted hot-honey glazed carrots with labneh. Would wholeheartedly recommend. For dessert, we had the vanilla creme brulee with white chocolate soil, creme fraiche ice cream, vanilla gel, poached tamarillo and tuile. Beautiful and all made perfectly. Also had the Maltesers taco which is one of the best desserts I have ever had and there was just the right amount of each ingredient. We could not fault a single thing we had. Everything was perfect. Easiest 5* review ever. The date we visited Amayjen was the 10-year anniversary of my dad’s passing, so it was a very difficult and flat day. Amayjen were perfect and actually managed to end the day on a great high. We have been discussing the meal since, and we will definitely be back. THANK YOU AMAYJEN!

Amazing service once we walked in the door! Wow the place looks great and the food is packed full of flavour. The Smashed Avo on toast was beautiful and, I also had the beef brisket eggs Benedict. Went to brunch of a showgirl. The food was incredibly average, not worth the price at all. The brunch items were the same price as they usually are on the menu except without some components such as my waffles had no ice cream, whipped cream, and vanilla gel and bananas weren't caramelized. Very disappointing. Cocktail was incredibly meh. We were really looking forward to this brunch but left disappointed and will not be back.
Sarah H — Google review
The quality and taste of mains was disappointing for the price point. Photos look good only. Even something as simple as "twice cooked" chips and onion rings were very oily and not crispy. Waiting staff were slow and unprofessional and seemed uninterested in their work. The only redeeming part of the experience was the sundae I tried, which was nice but nothing special at $21. There are far better eateries nearby that offer better tasting and quality food at more reasonable prices.

Good service a little slow but awesome staff. Food was hit and miss across our 9 main meals. Chicken Kiev great ,eye fillet great, salmon and beef cheeks both a little dry. Deserts were a hit. Would go back but with a smaller group.

Great food though a very slow service. I had their eye fillet which was excellent. The starter was very tasty and well presented. The desert looked great and tasted fine. The service staff may need some training and the ambience is clean though a little lacking in character. Certainly lots of upside potential here. The chef knows how to cook and present! The wait during a busy dinner time was around 90 minutes.

I adore most Japanese food, so I was excited to have dinner here, based on what I saw on the menu. My partner and I ordered quite the variety of dishes, the majority of which were excellent. We began with the hanetsuki gyoza. I am not exaggerating when I say that this was the best gyoza I've had in Palmerston North. The base was crispy, and the pork and chives filling was juicy and nicely seasoned. This was followed by the salmon and tuna sashimi. Both fish were fresh and flavourful. They were also quite large slices, which is a nice change from the slivers other restaurants tend to give. Our choice of sushi was their original "Rock ‘N’ Roll", which sounded the most unique. It came out looking a bit of a mess, but the flavour combination more than made up for this. We were especially impressed by the prawn tempura inside the roll, which was crunchy and delicious, despite being surrounded by moister ingredients. However, I personally thought that the bitterness of the snow pea shoots detracted from overall experience a bit. Next was their agedashi tofu. This is one of our favorite dishes, so we were especially looking forward to it. Thankfully, what we got was absolutely delicious, perhaps even the best. The flavour of the tofu stood out, even in the midst of the salty and umami dadhi sauce, and the crisp exterior held up incredibly well. Unfortunately, once the pork ramen soup arrived, our experience was soured. From the very first sniff, something was very wrong. It literally smelled like I was walking down an aisle of Chinese dried herbs. While confusing, I did not want to judge it yet, so I tried the broth. It tasted just as strange, lacking any presence of the rich pork flavour the description promised. It felt like random sachets from old instant noodles had been thrown together to create this mystery liquid. At least the pork itself was decent. Our final course was the tempura udon. We were so glad to see that this was bounds ahead of the ramen. The tempura prawn, pumpkin, and kumara were excellent. However, the noodles themselves were just average. Strangely, some tempura broccoli was also included. There's nothing wrong with that in theory, but its bitterness clashed with the sweeter flavours of everything else in an unpleasant way in this scenario. The service was good, with attentive floor staff regularly checking on tables. They offered to refill our teapot as soon as they noticed it was empty, and dishes were cleared away promptly. The one issue was that there was seemingly only one chef, which led to long wait times. Maybe we were unlucky on the Tuesday night we came, but be prepared to have some patience. Overall, I definitely recommend Hanamizuki if you're a fan of Japanese cuisine. It combines traditional flavours with a modern twist at times. We wholeheartedly recommend their sashimi, sushi, gyoza, tofu, and tempura. Try the ramen if you are the morbidly curious type.

We had the loveliest waitress! Saturday 11/10/25. The food was great. Very wholesome, homemade tasting. The entrees arent pictured, but the karaage is BOMB. All of the portions were very generous. Pictured is unagi don, chilli teriyaki chicken, beef fillet with prawns, and chicken katsu don. And the cute birthday cake! There was a longer wait than expected between courses (it was busy though) which was actually really nice because we had time for conversation without feeling like we were being rushed out.

My partner and I went and dined in for our anniversary, and we both loved the whole experience. The atmosphere is warm, intimate and cosy with a wonderful ambiance. The service was friendly and warm, you really felt welcomed throughout the whole evening. The food was brilliant, we enjoyed each and every dish, all the food was presented nicely, fresh and flavourful, the alcohol selection was very generous and I highly recommend the plum wine. The picture does not do the food justice but was very tasty! We look forward to coming back!

Delicious food, great service, no time limit at table, walked in to dine-in for table of 4 without reservation Huge range of dishes and some unique offerings that I HAD to try, yum! Service was immaculate, every question answered accurately & professionally without hesitation

Food is awesome. Patrick never lets us down with his amazing cooking! Staff and Elaine are very friendly! The environment is chill and relaxing with a nice Japanese ambience. The desserts are very yummy and is always a must as an after meal palate cleanser. I love the Apple Tempura but the Apple Spring Roll is also good. It’s not too sweet and the crunch from the batter and the apple adds texture and makes it an exciting dish. Highly recommend! Don’t ask what is good because everything is yummy! Must try everything!

Ordered a main meal (Curry Karaage Chicken), advertised on the menu as a large plate for $35 with a side order of rice ($3). When the meal came to the table it was presented in a small bowl and resembled a starter rather than a main meal. The rice was 2 spoonfuls. My fellow diners questioned the portion size, that I had to ask the waitress if it indeed was a main, to which she replied yes. The most disappointing meal I have had, at a price that was not worthy. Ordered a Vodka & soda water and paid $20 for the drink as I asked for the double shot to be separated into 2 singles so had to pay an extra $7 for the sodawater. Soda water was flat. Called the next day to give feedback and was met with resistance and anger, and Manager and Chef was 100% not open to the feedback. Lost a patron for life and will not dine there again. I do not and will never recommend this establishment.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We ordered takeaway from Hanamizuki Japanese Restaurant on The Square tonight, and it was absolutely outstanding. From the moment we placed our order, the service was friendly and efficient, and their website made everything easy. We tried the takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and teriyaki salmon—all were perfectly cooked, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented even as takeaway. This was without question the most delicious Japanese food we’ve ever had, and easily the best in the city. A real gem—thank you, Hanamizuki, for such a wonderful meal. We’ll definitely be back!

Takeout Restaurant
Fast food restaurant
Golden Takeaways is a beloved late-night gem in Palmerston North, cherished by locals for over 40 years. After enjoying some drinks with friends, a visit to this iconic fish and chip shop is a must. The experience is enhanced when you order directly from their website, ensuring not only better prices but also larger portions and faster service.
When I was there. The prices weren't too bad. Enjoyable. Service was excellent.
Beth M — Google review
Great value burgers Great quality chips, but VERY poor quantity of chips. After having lived in the North Shore and Central Auckland, I'm not a stranger to stingy hot chips servings. This however, was the smallest serving I've ever received for $4.50, didn't even fill a small bowl... See photo (hand for comparison and I have very small hands). If the chips serving size was double (like it is in many places), then it would have been 5 stars. I'm told the smorgasbord here is good, came for a classic burger and chips to celebrate an A+ though :)
Dan P — Google review
Friendly staff is my main rating for this local takeaway. Like any takeaway, there isn't much to talk about in its atmosphere other than, it is clear, tity, and place to sit down while waiting. The food is just as I was expecting, always consistent, fast, and reasonable pricing.
Onn T — Google review
Though fish was a large portion, the batter was soggy so were the chips. The regular fish was not tender and flaky , rather hard and chunky. A blue cod cost $12.5 while other takeaways charge $6.5 ... but maybe their other food taste good.
Dana Y — Google review
Went there at 6pm for smorgasbord. There were very little dishes to choose from. Was ok for me even though there were two tiny pieces of dried up Egg Fu Young but what makes me give a 2 Stars is the way lumps of flour batters were mixed into both the Sweet Sour Pork n Battered Fried Pork to make them like the real stuff! Never felt so cheated before.
Shaun C — Google review
The Fish'n Chips were bad. The fish was tasteless and by no means fresh. The chip's were just plain and just the regular frozen chip's from any supermarket - they had no crunch or bite to them and were way to salty. Only the size of the portion was good, but would rather liked to have less with better quality. Prize 3$ each.
Finn R — Google review
As of 2023, price is now $9.50 for two burgers. Three pieces of fish in a fish burger, but I like the two Jumbo burgers. Open late. Probably the most popular Chinese takeaways in town. Dine in ok. Not comfortable but fantastic for this price range.
Gareth B — Google review
Staff sometimes good sometimes rude. This place is known as the tokken drunk people or winz people fish and chip/takeaway place in palmy. Used to be really cheap but recently prices have gone up, maybe because of living wage or new minimum wages cost to cover maybe why? But with things costing more, some things on the menu don't taste as good as they used to.

Nestled in the heart of the Manawatu Region, Sushi House is a must-visit for sushi enthusiasts. This charming eatery boasts an impressive array of fresh and delicious options that tend to fly off the shelves during lunch hours, highlighting its popularity among locals. The friendly staff are always ready to assist, and if you're craving something different, don't hesitate to ask for their seaweed salad at the counter.
Large variety of choices that often deplete over the lunch period, suggesting how popular they are. They also have the option of seaweed salad if you ask for it at the counter. Friendly staff. Times to avoid would be just after opening and after 2pm as at these times, there is not a huge variety (which is understandable)

When I went in I saw Salmon sushi turning BROWN there was barely any sushi and the sushi they did have looked like they digged through a dumpster to find the sushi but I was desperate and got some sushi IT WAS HORRIBLE! the rice was dry and the fillings were gross and hard to digest never going here again

I guess it's ok... Staff were friendly... Place seemed nice, it's just a little expensive... I mean, most sushi places are expensive, for what you get, but some just seemed quite small and honestly not really what I would keep paying that amount of money for... I'll stick to home-made...

The vibrant atmosphere is enhanced by friendly and enthusiastic staff who genuinely care about your dining experience.
Great restaurant with lots of interesting twist on asian dishes. Everything we ordered taste delicious and was fresh and healthy. If you are vegetarian or presciterian make sure you check with chef on ingredients as some dishes come sprikles with small meat bits.

I've discovered this restaurant by luck when passing through Palmerston North and had found the love of my life: the Pesto Chicken Pasta. It was so delicious that I had to return 2 days later (and had the same meal despite the tasty looking range of options on offer). "The Lab" is a confused "Asian Fusion" restaurant newly opened in Broadway, Palmerston North. We visited for lunch with seven on a Thursday, and were the only customers. Service: Poor. Our server couldn't count. She brought us six menus, then returned and took six orders - we had to call her back to take the seventh order. Despite being the only customers, no attempt was made to remember who ordered what. Our mains were slow and arrived in drips and drabs with ten minutes between the first and the last. Menu: Poor. There are no entrees on the lunch menu. The 13 different mains feature very little variety. Mostly chicken or vegetarian with noodles, rice and vegetables in various combinations. There are 9 different deserts, including cheesecake, but I had lost enthusiasm by then. Food: Awful. I ordered char-grilled chicken with steamed vegetables. The plate was cold and the meal was luke-warm. My vegetables were simply a few greyish lumps of broccoli that looked and tasted like they had been boiled from a frozen packet. The chicken was grey, and showed no sign of having been anywhere near a grill. It also tasted as if it had been boiled, and even the overly salty BBQ sauce which swamped it couldn't hide the grim boarding-school taste. Adding to the "From Frozen" vibe, the vegetables in some of the other meals looked suspiciously like McCain's mixed vegetables (peas, corn, diced carrots) from a frozen packet. Not saying they were. But they sure looked like it. Decor: Outdoor style wooden furniture with hard bench seating that you can't get close enough to the table for comfort. If you care about your clothing, you'll want to spread a couple of paper napkins on your legs to avoid dripping sauce on your trousers or skirt. Redeeming Features? Well, lunch was on special at "20% off", probably in a desperate attempt to get somebody to come in the door. Also, the "Blooming Jasmine Green Tea" is very attractive. Final Conclusion: Cheap, but nothing else good can really be said about it. If you're tempted to visit The Lab in the few weeks before it closes, I recommend you just keep walking a few steps further and try the Thai House Express instead.

Excelent service and prices. Had mixed started b. Was good. Main was roasted duck with black bean sauce. Duck was superb. Vegatables under cooked. Meals came out 5 minutes apart so felt akward to eat while others waiting. Lack of ambient music to cover the clatter of dishes from kitchen but overall a good experiance.

Nestled in the heart of Palmerston North at 59 George Street, Barista is a delightful café that brings a taste of Europe to your plate. With an enticing menu available for both lunch and dinner, this charming spot serves up not only exquisite espresso but also an impressive selection of fine wines and 27 aromatic teas. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it perfect for a leisurely afternoon break or an evening out. Guests can expect friendly service and generous portions that leave you feeling satisfied.
A busy fathers day today had Barista heaving, but luckily the wait staff found a table for us. I ordered my favorite...French toast, and this came out looking amazing, and tasted as good also! Could have had a little more caramelized banana 🍌, but that's just because chef did such a great job of it. Nice hot capa, finished off with an iced coffee...Father's day treat...and they offered ice cream with it, not many do! Great service, other treats in the cabinet that we drooled over but honestly, lunch was enough..

Can't speak highly enough about this place. It's been consistently good for decades through multiple owners. Their kitchen is tiny but worth waiting for. The decor is nice wooden chic. The staff are great, know their stuff about dietaries, and helped me out of a pickle too. Solo or group, it is well worth eating here. Oh, and the variety in their drinks menu is fantastic too.

Very cool cafe with awesome artwork on the wall. Our meals were delicious and the service was great! I had scrambled eggs on toast with bacon which was really good. Have previously been here for coffee and remember it being good

Absolutely perfect! My wife and I both ordered the Greek Goddess salad, with Chicken. The flavours worked so well together, the cajun-come-turkish-esque seasoning on the chicken, with the hummus, the parsley (not too much that it becomes a stand out flavour), and the mint just makes for an absolute stunner of a dish. I don't think there is anything that could improve the combo, maybe a cumin seed sprinkle, but that would steer the profile more towards Turkish cuisine. Our servers were all absolutely fantastic. The woman that took our order was so lovely, such a happy positive vibe, we felt so welcome. The atmosphere was nice, we walked into a cafe not far from this one, and the noise was over the top, but we were able to sit down in Barista and enjoy our lunch in relative calmness. Even though my wife mentioned that it was quite busy! Which means the space is really good at absorbing sound. Overall, a really lovely place. 6 stars if I could.

Barista Café – Where Breakfast Becomes a Love Story If there were a way to bottle comfort, warmth, and culinary delight into one glorious morning outing, Barista would be it. Nestled in the heart of Palmerston North, this café doesn’t try to be anything—it simply is everything. The space is welcoming and unpretentious, with just the right balance of bustle and calm. Whether you're coming for a quiet moment or a gathering of friends or colleagues, it holds you gently—like it somehow knew you needed it. The food? Divine. Every bite is a love letter written by someone who actually cares. The Vege Breakfast is a standout masterpiece—haloumi that sings, avocado that’s delicious, poached eggs like golden wishes, and toast that feels like home. The cabinet food is no afterthought. It’s a curated gallery of edible joy, with Florentines that deserve their own fan club. Sweet, buttery, nutty, gingerly brilliance — the kind of thing you swear you’ll only have half of, then sit silently chewing the second before you realise you’ve already eaten it all. Staff? Effortless excellence. Present, kind, and just the right level of relaxed. Ambience? Soft chatter, good coffee, and the steady rhythm of people being human—well-fed, well-met, and gently restored. It’s not just a café. It’s a pause button for life. And for someone who rarely makes it out due to health, this was no small joy. This was nourishment for the soul. Thank you, Barista. We’ll be back—again and again. Reply to Owner: You’ve just made our day all over again — thank you so much for that beautiful response. We could feel the love in every bite, and it’s no surprise to learn that your team pours their hearts into the food and the space. That warmth comes through in every detail — right down to the perfectly poached egg (still thinking about it, if we’re honest). We’re already looking forward to our next visit. Thank you for making us feel so welcome, so cared for… and yes, we’ll be claiming that Florentine with pride! With heartfelt thanks, —Me (and my beautiful lady) 💛

The cafe is very popular and yesterday tables were full and delicious looking food was displayed in the cabinet. We gave our order and waited. A while later the lovely waitress arrived empty-handed to let us know our order had been missed but wouldn't be long. In the meantime we were given delicious lemon slices and told there would be no charge for our drinks. A short time later our tasty lunches arrived. A very pleasant experience with delicious food - perfect 👌

Nestled on Broadway Avenue, Cafe Brie is a charming eatery that brings a delightful taste of French-inspired breakfasts to the community. Known for its inviting atmosphere, this cozy spot serves up an array of mouthwatering dishes like savory scrambled eggs and delectable French toast topped with berry compote and yogurt—both beloved by locals. The cafe prides itself on offering organic coffee at wallet-friendly prices, making it a perfect destination for breakfast or brunch any day of the week.
The service was excellent. As we arrived an hour before the cafe closed, the staff politely told us that kitchen has closed and we can order whatever that is on the counter only. We had no problem with that as we only wanted some tea time snacks. The English Breakfast tea and the metal teapot wasn’t impressive but the tea cups were beautiful! It would be great if they serve their tea is nice porcelain tea pots. The ambience was definitely great, very comfortable to dine in a such a well decorated premise. I would recommend their bread pudding except that they were too rich in berries. If there is less berries, it would not taste as sour and the bread pudding will taste even better! The custard danish is quite normal, crust is a bit on the hard side and not as fragrant. Overall, I would still like to come back again for their excellent service and ambience.

- 2x Vegetarian breakfast: One of our eggs was nice and runny, the other was over cooked and not runny at all, the halloumi is good quality not too firm, good potato gratin, baby spinach good, relish good, kūmara chips on top were also nice; overall okay flavour; doesn’t look like much food for money, but will satiate your hunger. 7.5/10 - Regular mocha: Good temperature, sweet foam, a bit too chocolatey. 7/10 - Bowl Flat white: Fun, good temperature, okay bitter foam, nice bean roast. 7/10 The lemons in the water weren’t washed and there was dirt floating in the water. Glasses and pitcher were dirty and had spots all over them. 0/10 No vegetarian croissants, or other pastries; everything that isn’t a cake or macaroons has bacon in it. Near by attendees had ordered not long after us, and waited half an hour for their food, and have not received it. Probably best to come earlier and on an off day. (I feel they need at least one more staff member to be a dedicated waiter) The ceiling was dirty, and the paintings were wonky; the feet of the table made it hard to adjust the chair. Environment 5/10.

Cute little cafe with delish food. Beautiful with the plating and added touch of flowers. Would've liked a bigger piece of bread for the amount of food/chicken there was and perhaps some spices in the chicken crumb would've added that next level of flavour but overall was tasty. They had a caramilk bread and butter type muffin that was super delish in the cabinet food. Will definitely be back.

Excellent service and delicious food on a lovely setting. My turmeric latte was so tasty and so was the buttermilk chicken salad. The salad itself is very tasty and full of lots of different vegetables and very filling. My husband had the omelette which was also very nice, and our friend had lambs fry which was also top notch. I would definitely recommend this place over many other cafes in town. The tight policing of the vaccine pass on entry made me feel very reassured to eat here. We will be back.

Nestled in Palmerston North, Moxies Cafe is a delightful gem that turned my day around when my usual spot was closed. The cafe boasts an inviting and quirky decor that instantly makes you feel at home. The friendly staff adds to the warm atmosphere, making it a perfect place for brunch with family or friends. During my visit, I indulged in their Bad M.F Breakfast, Lamb Buttie, Seafood Chowder, and Waffles—each dish bursting with flavor!
Great seafood platter… so impressed to find an ika mata (raw fish) in little old palmy, which was on point. Caramel latte bowl also on point. Thanks team.

Not much to say other than we were super impressed. I’ve never seen pork belly in any menu items from a cafe yet this one did AND IT WAS TO DIE FOR. We got the pork belly benny aswell as the pork belly burger + other things but holy moly it was yum and portions were great. Atmosphere was nice and comfy although I wish the sun was able to reach the store but the opposite buildings r too tall. Service was great.

Dined in at Moxies and it turned out to be one of the better brunch experiences my family and I have had. We ordered the Bad M.F Breakfast, Lamb Buttie, Seafood Chowder, and Waffles, something for everyone, and everything was packed with flavour. The seafood chowder was one of the best we’ve ever had, and the big breakfast nailed the classic done right. The waffles were perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft inside, and the homemade bread in the Lamb Buttie was a standout. The only minor critique would be that the hollandaise had a bit too much vinegar. Overall, a great spot with a diverse menu, generous portions, and nothing over $30 amazing value for the quality. Highly recommend

So, picture this: I'm wandering around Palmerston North, a bit bummed because my go-to cafe was unexpectedly closed. But hey, every cloud has a silver lining, right? That's when I stumbled upon Moxies Cafe, and let me tell you, it was like finding a diamond in the rough. First off, the decor is on point—pleasant, inviting, and just the right amount of quirky. It sets the stage for what turned out to be a fantastic experience. And the staff? Super friendly. Like, genuinely so. It's the kind of vibe that instantly puts you at ease. But let's talk about the real star of the show: the food. Moxies doesn't mess around when it comes to their menu. All-day breakfast and great brunch and lunch options. To top it all off, they're fully licensed, so you can kick back with a drink in hand and soak in the relaxed atmosphere. In short, Moxies Cafe is the kind of place that turns a disappointing situation into a delightful surprise. If you find yourself in Palmerston North, do yourself a favour and pay them a visit. You won't regret it.

Everytime I go to Palmy, I always stop at Moxies. The waffles are EXQUISITE! They have a sugary crunch to them and are served over bananas and bacon, leaving you full for the rest of the day! Nestled in the heart of Palmerston North, Cafe Jacko is a delightful spot that promises a warm welcome and an inviting atmosphere. Known for its friendly staff who greet you with genuine smiles, this cafe excels in providing quick service without compromising on quality. Diners rave about the delicious menu offerings, from perfectly cooked bacon to fluffy pancakes that even kids can't resist! The French toast bacon burger is a standout dish, beautifully presented and generously portioned.
The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. They are also patient. It was great to ask customers to order their drinks first and allowing them time to decide on the mains. The bacon were fried just right, not tough and easy to eat. The fried eggs were good. It would be healthier if the bread were fried with less butter/margarine. The ham and cheese croissant was nice. The pancakes were great with young children. My grandson even asked for more!!! 🤣 Definitely a cafe to go for if you are around the square!

Amazing. Me and my wife were in town for an event, and we were invited out to brunch on the Sunday. We had never been to Cafe Jacko, but oh my god Amazing is all I can say. The service was amazing, the coffee was amazing, the food was amazing, and the prices were fair. There was Ten of us in the group, and everyone was impressed. Keep up the fantastic work and we will definitely be back.

Cute suburban cafe in the heart of Palmerston North. Beautiful food with even better service. We were well looked after at Cafe Jacko and had very attentive staff. They have gluten free , dairy free and vegetarian options. Would definitely recommend!

First time trying Jacko's and we couldn't have picked a better spot! Wonderful staff, the service was friendly. Food was absolutely delicious. Got the French toast bacon burger. It was presented beautifully and a huge portion size. Coffee was also wonderful, big mug for reasonable price. Will 100% be coming back next time I'm in Palmerston North.

Renowned for its award-winning AngusPure beef, the restaurant provides fine dining in Palmerston North's Broadway Avenue. Lovely service and atmosphere. We got scotch fillet, lambs 3 ways and pork ribs. You won't be disappointed.! Great kitchen staff and wonderful chefs! Entrees were yummy too! Thank you team! The staff knew we were celebrating birthday and the free desserts made us a big surprise! Pretty funny thing was our familiar friends had the table beside us but we did not notice that until we saw them in our pictures! We believe everyone will love Aberdeen!

If you are vegetarian and have a choice about whether or not to eat here - DO NOT EAT HERE. I came here for a work do so I had no choice. I’m vegetarian and the only option was gnocchi, which is fine. It’s a steak restaurant so a single veggie option is all I’d expect and my expectations were low but the “gnocchi” which came was not recognisable as such by appearance or taste. It was rubbery and disgusting. I never really complain about food but it was actually inedible. It’s on the menu at $35 and if I had been there not as part of a large group I would have sent it back and left and absolutely not paid for it. I appreciate large groups are challenging but for the price we were paying ($90 a head) it is unacceptable to serve such bad food. The “spring onion pancake” which was more like a roti was fine so I just ate that. The starters and desserts were also good and the people who had meat said their food was good. Just do not come if you’re veggie.

Wow wow wow wow wow. Just an amazing meal. Took my relatives who were visiting NZ to this place and they have never had a steak so good in their life (and they've been to a lot of countries!). Service was lovely and I loved the atmosphere of everything. Garlic bread was tasty, pate was divine, lamb was the best lamb I've had to date. We polished everything off of our plates.

It was fine, we enjoyed the food and they were prompt and service was great. What very busy which is also a great sign. Just noticed they put pine nuts ... fancy :-)

Beautiful food and lovely staff! The pumpkin gnocchi was gorgeous and fluffy, and scotch fillet was cooked to perfection along with delicious duck fat potatoes. Lemon cheesecake was to die for, the soft meringue on top was sooo smooth. The cocktails were yummy too, especially the Guns n Roses!

Wow what an amazing place. Our first time there for our 14th wedding anniversary. The best steak ever and the service was amazing. We didn't have to wait for drinks and the staff were so friendly and efficient. The best part was when we got a special little surprise and that really made our day. Thank Aberdeen for making our 14th wedding anniversary so special. I also loved that when you were no open I was still able to make a booking online.

Wonderful experience. It was the first place we had a meal as a family in Palmerston North, since arriving and it did not dissappoint. Ive been in hospitality for 15 years, both as Sous chef of a 5 star boutique hotel and manager of a very popular seaside Restaurant in Jeffeys Bay, South Africa. And Aberdeen was truly a great decision. I always hammered it into my staff, that a restaurant is about exprience, not JUST about the food. - Greeted upon arrival with a smile. - Taken to a great table infront of their fireplace - Waiter attentative and friendly, and just the right amount, not to the point of being bothersome. - the food.. just... wow. - the food arrived perfectly spaced out. - the Aberdeen Reserve Syrah was Great with their 500g Bone on Ribeye with Truffle butter. Thank you guys. You will see us again soon.

The care and attention from the fabulous wait staff and crew is always so professional and warm. The food is the icing on the cake! Edit UPDATE! Seriously, this is one of the greatest establishments to eat at. Aberdeen NEVER fails to astonish us with its quality and experience. Please make a date to visit. Our 20-year anniversary was made more special having visited. Thank you as always.

Nestled in the heart of Palmerston North, Chada Thai is a beloved gem that captures the essence of authentic Thai cuisine. With an extensive menu that caters to all dietary preferences—be it vegetarian, vegan, or meat-lover—you’re sure to find something delightful. The standout dishes include their aromatic green curry and rich red curry, both simmered to perfection with fresh ingredients and coconut milk.
Great dining experience here. We didnt have to book in advance. Service was really good. Place was clean and tidy. Food was reasonably priced, with good sized servings and was yummo! They even have free containers if you cant eat it all. Has kids menu also.

The laksa is flavorful and generous in portion - I ordered their roast duck Laksa and was happy with how much protein and soup I received. The duck was cooked well, and the noodles were fresh and the right texture. The Tom yum fried rice is packed with flavour and is a must order.

A great place for Thai food at a resonable price in the middle of Palmerston North . They have special a well priced lunch menu . Plenty of seating and friendly helpful staff.. I love their thick banana milkshakes.

We went here last week and ordered alot of food, surprisingly the food came within 5 minutes which was really odd, taste was average! Some dishes seemed to be microwaved, ambience is good though! Not the greatest experience but also not the absolute worst.

I have mixed thoughts . Firstly the service is very good . There is a guy there who is very attentive and very friendly and what every restaurant needs. He is a bit forgetful but nothing that can’t be forgiven . The food is really the main thing here . The pork is just so so dry , and chewy . It needs less time .. the portions also need addressing , a little bit on the smaller side for entrees to price ratio . I really want to come back because the guy is so sweet but … the price of food ..

From the FOH staff to the food to the vibe, we loved this place! They have a photo menu available, which is helpful for language needs or people who want visual inspiration. The photos led us to order an extra dish and it was worth it. Try the fried rice in a pineapple.
Nicole W — Google review
The place is always busy, service is lovely (especially a guy, I can't remember his name but he chatted to us, gave us recommendations and made sure we had a good time) and the food is good. Big portions and tasty food that comes out quicker than some fast food restaurants I've been too! I love their fried rice and crispy pork. I've been here on multiple dinner dates with friends and it never disappoints. Only criticism is it gets a little loud at points but that's just because it's very busy. Also take note that you have to go to the counter to order. They don't come to you
Jorja P — Google review
Our first time and will be the last: Non- existent service and still terrible at it. No greetings, no smile, just staffs in the counter staring, poker face. Too bad for a first time. The rule is you need to order from the counter, get your own water and wait for your food on the table. The roti is fine but the satay sauce is too bland. The Rice with Omelette is quite good but can do better so with the Beef Penang.

Portofino Italian Restaurant is a charming and elegant dining spot known for its exceptional service and delectable Italian cuisine, making it an ideal choice for a romantic evening. Guests have praised the attentive staff and the delicious dishes such as fettuccine con pollo and pepperoni pizza. The restaurant's inviting ambiance and cleanliness add to the overall pleasant experience. While some felt that certain dishes could be improved, others appreciated the accommodating nature of the establishment, including special orders for children.
My partner and I came here on a whim, as we were craving Italian food. We were extremely pleased to find that everything about this restaurant was impressive. We ordered the risotto alla pescatora, spaghetti alla carbonara, fries, and the tiramisu classico. Everything was impeccably presented and equally flavourful. The service throughout the night was very attentive, without being overbearing. Everything from the greeting to our farewell was fantastic.

What lovely people! Fantastic service. We wanted takeaway, and while it was a surprisingly busy night, we weren't turned away. We were even given a discount for not dining in. The staff were lovely to us! The food was really good, the fettuccine con pollo was divine, and my partner enjoyed his pepperoni pizza. Well worth the price, in my opinion. Restaurant was very clean, welcoming, and overall, just a pleasant place to be. Best experience I've had out of the Portofino chain. Will return when we're in the area :)

From the friendly person on the phone when I booked a table to the final farewell, I enjoyed this dining experience. The staff were attentive, the atmosphere was great, and the food was delicious. Pasta and pizza. A good helping, in fact, a little too much on the plate for me. The chef came out to check on us, which was nice. Watch the step at the entrance.
Janet D — Google review
A great recommendation for Italian food fix for Palmerston North. The garlic pizza bread starter was a little too hard and chewy. The pizza was good. Haven't explored Palmerston North much, but wouldn't be surprised if it's the best pizza in town. The taste of the dough didn't have much to talk about though - which was surprising for a place like this. The gnocchi could be softer. They gladly went a little beyond their usual menu and got a special order done for the kid though - that was kind. The pasta was not al dente - it was too soft. The ravioli was great. But both the pasta and the ravioli had tomato based sauces which, while being good in the taste, felt too pureed - without much texture and character. The team is polite, warm and friendly. But they were surprised when asked for some olive oil on the side - the friendly lady server's response was "I'll see what I can do". And she did get some EVOO, which tasted great and made the starter garlic pizza bread more enjoyable. But when asked again for a bit more (a second request for a table for four diners!), they said they'd need to charge. That was interesting. The dessert selection looked impressive. Saving that for the next visit. The wine selection looked generous too. On the whole, recommended. Just do not expect gourmet highest end fare.
Pritam M — Google review
We had a booked table for 1800hrs. Started off great. Great service initially. Took 30mins for appetizers to be brought out. Appetizers were brilliant. No complaints there. However from this point the dining experience fell apart. It took over 1hr for our main meals to come out. Then, when they were brought out, they tried to take the meals and switch them because they couldn't identify the right ones. The carbonara pasta was disappointing. Was no creaminess or bacon taste as described. Was a let down. There was also no parmesan or fresh black pepper offered to any of us that had pasta (was stated that this was to be offered, at the top of the menu). Others in the group described their food as bland and others stated theirs was cold when it arrived at the table. The only meal that anyone from our table appeared to enjoy was the cannelloni. Overall a very poor dining experience and we will not be back.

At The Coffee Club The Square, you can indulge in a delightful all-day breakfast and enjoy a variety of café lunches, complemented by their signature coffee blends. This well-established chain is known for its casual atmosphere and extensive menu that caters to brunch lovers, health-conscious diners, and those seeking afternoon tea. Recently, the café showcased exceptional service during a busy festival weekend; patrons were informed about reasonable food wait times while enjoying friendly interactions with staff.
I’ve never been treated so nicely as I have whilst eating here. All of the staff had kind, smiling faces. The food is delicious and I was sent away with a complementary dessert. I was clearly going through some emotional distress and so they brought me over napkins, and then the cake. If I’m in town again, I will definitely be going back.

Had lunch at CC today and ordered using the app. Coffee arrived no issues. A family arrived after I ordered. Approximately 20 minutes the family received their food. I asked the waitress to check where my lunch was and when I told her I ordered on the app, she made a comment, "oh online orders are 20 minutes delay". I then see the cook in the kitchen pickip a docket and waitress tells me my meal is being made. When it arrives I was not given any cutlery etc and when I asked for a serviette from another waitress it seemed to be putting her out. Overall staff need to learn Customer service. Don't use the app as clearly an issue and tbh food was not that great.

Considering the influx of (many hungover and/or tired) patrons from a festival the night before, the Coffee Club put on amazing service. We were told in advance about the food wait time (which was very reasonable considering), the staff taking the orders were efficient and friendly and there was plenty to choose from. Our table of five had all different dishes and drinks, and we were all very happy with them. Fresh, delicious, good value for money. Clean cafe with plenty of seating inside and out. I would highly recommend this place for brunch or any other meal. I would return each weekend if I lived in Palmy!

I ordered F&C via Delliver Easy. Absolutely scrumptious. I asked for extra lemon and it was sent in a separate container with a smiley face. I will order it again

Won't be returning. 6deg outside, thought I'd enjoy a nice hot breakfast. The rostis were stone cold. As there were very few patrons, the chef had more than enough time to do their job properly. When food is your core business you can't afford to have someone fail this badly, especially in this economy.

Good service, food well presented. Was very loud and cramped inside so ate outside. Big breakfast was average, bacon was like rubber, not sure if youd call the eggs poached, onion rings overcooked and mushrooms watery. Chicken burger was good, as were the loaded fries and pancakes. Frappes were good, smoothie was bitter.

We had lunch at this cafe 7th July at 11.45..food was very nice..service was great..very very disappointed to see a lady sitting at a table with a small dog on her chest in a fabric wrap. A very enjoyable stop for lunch on our way through Palmerston North. The menu options were fantastic and having a ‘plants only’ vegan menu was incredible to find. Dropped in here with a few friends and family on Christmas Eve, and as we’d already had a large hotel breakfast, the rest of the table enjoyed an array of food that looked appealing, and met their approval. The coffees were well made, and the service was very warm and friendly. I couldn’t resist a large date and orange scone, which when heated and topped with butter, was bloody awesome! Great job team and keep up the good work!

I’ll certainly be going back and find myself in the area again if the serving staff is change the way they respond to customer questions rather than balantly saying no for everything - amazing looking vegan menu, however when we asked the dishes half of them were unavailable. Bit disappointed with that. The girl who took our order was wonderful and friendly as well. The person who served us was very rude to us. The smoothie was bitter in taste. The entire experience was not very happy! Such a delight to find this place! We drove into Palmerston North and I’m thrilled that I did some research on vegan food in Palmerston North before we arrived. We went for brunch. This cafe needs to realise allergies people come to the place for good food and customer service. The front counter staff was very helpful however the service staff was giving no answer to any questions we have asked found to be very rude. I hope management team will look into it.

Sweet little cafe with 2 amazing staff, the guy who was making the coffees was hilarious and the lady mostly doing tills was wonderful too, they made the experience great. This place also has some interesting coffees and drinks that you wouldn't find many other places like a dirty ginger latte which I had, it was surprisingly gingery- genuine stuff not just a syrup it tasted like. My friends first time having coffee and she loved it. 10/10 recommend

So many tasty vegan (and non-vegan) options! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Coffee was delicious (and I really appreciated that the different alternative milks had different costs instead of making them all the same!) Really appreciated the progressive vibe! Such a relaxing atmosphere, with great music playing, interesting magazines to thumb through, and cool art to gaze at while you eat/drink. The little area the cafe is located in is super cool too, tucked away near the center for sustainable living and an art gallery. Highly recommend this place!! You can also find free 120 min parking on Linton Street :)

I know this is a really low rating. If I would have gone there only a few times it would have been a lot higher but I kept getting served really unpleasant hot drinks and it kindve ruined the place for me. Their foods nice and where its situated is stunning though. In the middle of the square edge art gallery. But unfortunately the drinks were always a little hit and miss and after a while all they were doing was missing. As an example I had a turmeric latte and I had to chuck it away as I couldn't finish it, was over powering and not mixed well, clumpy. Yeah no thankyou. Sorry cafe royale.

We arrived at 3 & even tho the kitchen was closed, as they close at 4pm the food in the display was still available, I had a delicious Curry bean & spinach filo pastry, with a avocado matcha smoothie, my sister had a zucchini, kumara & cheese quiche, with a coconut mango smoothie, & we shared a small salad, it was quick service & the server was very friendly & welcoming, there was no rush for us to leave either, & we took our time. I would try it again, & recommend it

It provides exceptional customer service and a relaxed ambiance, making it perfect for a romantic dinner date. Guests have praised the professional and welcoming staff, as well as the delicious and generously portioned food. Absolutely remarkable. Enjoyed the food and drinks, especially the dessert. The service was amazing and definitely made our night memorable! Definitely will come back here again! Forgot to take a picture of the mussels but they were divine.
Sam C — Google review
Disclaimer: my party of 3 dined here at half price via First Table on the 21st of January. It is with great sadness that I have to report that the food at Dejeuner was quite the disappointment. Let's start with the positives. Firstly, our server was absolutely amazing. She was attentive to our needs, asking if we needed any extra dishes or cutlery throughout the meal. She also made sure to check in on us to ask how our dining experience was. When we brought up any issues, she said that she would inform the chef. This was easily the best part of our time there. For starters, our group got the French onion soup, seafood chowder and chicken Caesar salad to share. This was a fantastic way to start our dinner, as everything was flavourful and well presented. Following this were our mains of venison, lamb and fish. The venison and lamb were cooked to a perfect temperature, being very tender and juicy. For dessert, the ice cream components of our panna cotta, chocolate fondant and sundae were the best parts. Unfortunately, this where I have to move on to the rather disheartening aspects of the meal, beginning with the serving sizes. I was under no impression that the dishes here would be large by any means, but the mere slivers of venison on the plate was borderline insulting, not to mention the sad smear of mash. The lamb rack was also on the small side. The market fish would have been great, if not for the burnt skin leaving a bitter aftertaste throughout. None of those would qualify the nearly $40 price tags. Our desserts ranged from being acceptable to painfully mediocre, the worst of which was the panna cotta. It came coated with a mango sauce, which was thankfully able to cover up the strangely bitter pudding. In the end, I cannot recommend Dejeuner in good faith. For every good flavour it offers, there is a disappointment that follows. The price point would not even be an issue if everything were to be held to a high standard. To end on a high note, I want to emphasize the fantastic service again. Whoever was serving on this Sunday, give her a raise.

Excellent food and service. Great place to have a special meal out. One point for improvement for restaurant and for customers, the duck fat potatoes were not crispy, quite soft, and tasted like any other wedges.

Eating on my own as travelling for work, so looking for tasty food and reasonable pricing, and an atmosphere where it doesn’t feel awkward being a sole diner. I had been here some time ago, enjoyed it very much and this time was certainly well satisfied on all counts. Only had a main, pork belly, plus side of veges. Serving size was really generous - I liked the sound of the mussels entree but would never have fitted that in as well! Very tasty - I enjoy sampling pork belly on my travels and this was excellent.

This was disappointing. Overall this is not fine dinning and neither is food that quality. We paid 175$ for 2 persons. We had ribs and fillet Mignon plus 2 drinks and a dessert plus coffee. Not worth the value. The taste was just ok. The potato stack felt like hand grated and not sized properly. The veges were slightly hard.. You can have much better food for this value at other places.. try some place..

Located in Palmerston North, New Zealand, Sunday Roast offers a delightful dining experience with its variety of roast options. The establishment is known for its well-cooked meat that doesn't require knives to cut and lacks any strange taste often found in other roast places. Nice food. Great coffee. The service is strange. They don't look at you when they serve you. They just plonk the food on the table. No connection Just a blank look. It's a.shame because their food is pretty good.

Neat looking place, food looks high quality and flashy but i was quite surprised when i bit into the cinnamon scroll it was stale and very dry might of been sitting in the cabinet for a few days it was uneatable as the tastes like the air of the cabinet, the tiramisu cream was good but the sponge part was slightly crisp from the air drying out the sponge part I'm guessing this too was sitting for a while. pies and some other stuff need to be heated not fresh be great if there were hot fresh pie's not cold ones - otherwise place looks very nice.

Service staff is a nightmare. The staff looks pissed and dont want to serve you. The lady who served me was rude. She did not have a service mind at all. Moreover, she keeps forgetting the order and went back to the kitchen for a chit chat while chewing some brownie. This place used to be amazing. We are sad to see the net set of staff could not maintain the quality. This is not you guys I would love to see you shine again. You can do better Alexandre!

I LOVED IT. It reminded me of the coffee shops I went in Europe. The aromas when you walk in, the food options. The french names. So adorable in terms of decor and delicious food. I was so happy, the workwrs are so friendly and nice it's impossible to go wrong! I highly recommend and will definitely go in the future. The prices are good and they have special deals that are pretty amazing!

I love this bakery so much! The place is aesthetic and classy. So many great and mouthwatering selections to choose and it’ll be never enough to only pick one! The blackberry macaron was so good. I really like the au pain raisins and almond croissant. Coffee was great too. It would be more lovely if they don’t charge additional cost for contactless payments. Staff are friendly and always greet you with bonjour and merci!

wow wow just wow ! Found the coolest cafe in Palmy thx google maps :) Great vibe , inside outside flow going on , food was amazing, staff were chatty helpful and the quick service was really impressive considering the place was packed at lunchtime. I'll be back :)

Staff are great and the quality of food is good too! I wish the quantity of food given was a little larger for the price. In saying so, this is a cosy place with a good selection of food perfect for a brunch or a light meal. The picture I've included is the BLT :)

A thriving little cafe, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, a strong lunch rush and plenty of regulars. Converted house is full of character. Pretty standard cafe prices. No background music would appeal to those who don't like the noisy cafe atmosphere. Near parking looks limited but at least is free.
Gareth B — Google review
Absolutely overpriced and under delivered. For a botique little cafe hidden in the suburbs they have lost the plot on prices and the quality is way below standard. They will have to sharpen their pencil, perhaps even replace it before we return. Very disappointed to have had this experience. 20 bucks for a eggs benedict is very pricey. The sauce was probably the best part of the dish. No butter on toast, bacon nearly undercooked. As for the "grand pan" ($24.50) that came out when my partner's eggs bennie was nearly finished, veggies was burnt, poached eggs still watery which made the mushrooms and toast soggy underneath and sausage cut in half overcooked. The people next to us sent their croissant back as it was bone dry....the worst cafe experience in Palmy

Nestled in the heart of Palmerston North, Wabi Sabi is a charming eatery that offers a delightful dining experience. This cozy spot has garnered praise for its friendly staff and consistently delicious food, making it a favorite among locals. The ambiance is inviting, perfect for those seeking a relaxed meal away from the hustle and bustle. The menu features an array of options, including fresh sashimi and sushi, with new dishes to explore on each visit.
Restaurant has a nice ambience at this time of the year and staff were sweet and courteous. Food was lovely! Salmon sashimi slices on the Don were fresh and sweet. All the dishes were good! The fizzy drink tasted wonderful too! Love the pops inside the drink! Highly recommend this restaurant!

Nice meals that were light and tasty. Good prices and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Staff were lovely and food service was very fast. Perhaps a little too quick 😁 Worth checking out.
Lindsay D — Google review
Lovely service from the young waiter and new waitress. Great range of food and drink options on the menu. The restaurant was has comfortable and fresh decor. The food is sadly not authentically Japanese. Gyoza tasted more like Mongolian momo. Karaage was not crunchy. Beef tataki marinade didn’t taste very good - swap out garlic sliced for grated ginger and fix the sauce. The tonkatsu ramen wasn’t bad just the wrong pork cut used, it wasn’t pork belly as per description, it was more like sliced smoked hock or something. I’ve given four because it was still pleasant and the young waiter was lovely.

I stopped by on a whim and was thoroughly impressed. The service was prompt and attentive, and the tranquil atmosphere made for a relaxing dining experience. My order arrived within minutes and was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend trying the Misu Ramen, a standout dish full of rich, balanced flavors. Pair it with a cold Sapporo beer for the perfect combination. This spot is a hidden gem worth visiting.

You're fancying some sushi the night before Waitangi Day, so where to go in Palmy? Wabi Sabi seems like a good option, so there you go. Surprisingly quiet this night, so it makes for pleasant, relaxed eating. The first thing you notice (since last visit) is that the menu has changed, so old favourites are out, new challenges await sampling. Order sashimi, sushi, and the fruity sake samplers. Sashimi is good, but miss the old tuna dish. Sushi was okay: The rice was a bit hot tonight (plausibly because you went a bit late, and its freshly made), which steals some pleasure out of each bite. The sampler of fruity sake is interesting for a try, but probably not to be repeated again, as it becomes too sweet in time. You could go for a sampler of normal sake, instead, if it comes to the menu in future. That would be welcoming!

Gengy's Restaurant, located at 21 Broadway Avenue in Palmerston North, New Zealand, offers a unique dining experience with no fixed menu. Instead, diners can choose from a wide range of meats, seafood, vegetables, oils, spices and sauces to create their own customized dishes. The restaurant is known for its efficient service even during busy times and is suitable for families with children.
Absolutely amazing place. Went with my partner for the first time last night. It was a Wednesday night and still half full. We were astounded at the variety of meats, vegetables, sauces and flavorings. Such a cool experience seeing the cooks cook your food right in front of you. Nice selection of fried foods for any picky eaters. We saw high chairs at a couple of tables so they accommodate for children. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. 10/10 would reccommend
Emmahh. C — Google review
My daughter specifically requested dining here for her birthday. Pricing calculator is available on their website so you don't get any nasty surprises and prices are scaled for children by age. I suggest you book ahead of time, especially for large groups. The restaurant can be a little loud. Meals are all you can eat and water is provided, but other drinks are extra. If you have not eaten at this style of buffet before, you queue to fill a bowl at the buffet, with meat and vegetables and your choice of flavoured oils, sauces and condiments, and these are griddle cooked while you wait and handed to you on a plate for you to return to your table. This allows you to select only the delicious things you want to eat in a stirfry style, and you can keep going back to try different flavours. Service staff were efficient at removing used plates and always asked politely before doing so. There are a range of sides and nibbles (great for fussy kids who only want nibbles and nuggets), and some soups with optional rolls and butter. I found the chicken & mushroom soup really tasty. The dessert bar has limited options, which are mostly ice cream with various toppings, but there is always the option of pancakes. If you have 3 adults dining at full cost, it's $1 on birthdays. Check their website for full pricing and conditions.
Katherine R — Google review
Very few deserts and food overall.. i was expecting at least a decent amount of options but all you get for desert is pancakes with 3 options of topping to choose from and icecream… everything else was very basic. Not worth $40. Save your money!!!

This cafe stands out for its cleanliness and beautifully arranged cabinet food, offering a diverse menu that caters to various tastes. The owners are hands-on, ensuring that every guest feels valued through respectful communication and attentive service—even during busy hours.
Always a warm welcome. Cooperage is super clean and tidy. Cabinet food is plenty and arranged beautifully. A varied selection is on offer on the menu. I ordered from here. Owners work their cafe and they and all staff are fantastic. They listen, are very respectful, communicate well, and remain calm even with a cafe full of people. Service was quick. I ordered hot cakes with bacon, banana, maple syrup, and whipped cream. Best hot cakes ever and at a very reasonable price. The Americano was spot on! This cafe runs like a well-oiled machine and has a positive, warm vibe.

Love this place! One of my favourite spots on Palmy. Food is great, big portions and reasonable priced. Their cabinet pasta is my fav. Coffee is great, hot, smooth but a good kick. Big place either way lots of space, comfy chairs. Feel like you could sit and chat with a friend for ages. Lots of tables. Well spread out. Service- they’re always pleased to see you and do their best to make sure you have a great experience.
Danni H — Google review
First time here with a group of friends, I'm impressed with their selection of cabinet food and reasonable size of servings, for the amount you paid! Friendly staff! The space is not tight compared to some of the other cafés here in Palmy, so it is a hit for our group. Child friendly / famil friendly for sure too! Loved their salmon filo and mocha is 5/5, their cheesecake is 4/5, although I'll give their custard square 3/5, leaning towards the drier side. Would definitely be back to try their other dishes!
Josephine G — Google review
The cabinet food looked good. Cheesecake and custard square was nice. Ordered fish and chips and steak sandwich. Unfortunately, the fish was well over cooked as was the steak and the onions were barely cooked. Smoothies were nice. Service was good and they kept the place clean and tidy.

As always our go to place to stop, rest and eat when in Palmy. Great food, especially the Mushroom chicken pasta and the chicken bacon mac n cheese. Smoothies and coffee are great too. Always served promptly and with a smile. A must place to go.
Chris B — Google review
A great place to spend a leisurely hour or more. Consistently 5 *. Menu is a bit pricy but a terrific selection of reasonably priced cabinet food. I am a regular and I know what i will be paying beforehand. Ckearly, because of the number of regulars you see. I an not alone in my thoughts.
Michael Z — Google review
I can imagine would be quite nice outside, but I side the chairs make the most awful sound on the floor when moving them. The chicken and mushroom crepe was beautiful but the chicken noodle SALAD was strange....had fresh apple and tomato etc, but when was brought to our table it was steaming hot. Was still very tasty, but not quite what was expected.
Anri M — Google review
Our food was on the table at the same time as we were about to sit.Ciffee came a little longer. Nice simple choc éclair and a custard tart from the display. The use of plastic table covers did nothing for the ambience. Whilst protecting the table it takes away the charm of the place.

If you're on the hunt for an exceptional dining experience in Palmerston North, look no further than Indian 2nite. The open-plan kitchen allows diners to witness the culinary magic as chefs prepare each meal, adding a unique touch to your visit. The sizzling platter arrived with a burst of aroma and heat, each piece of tandoori chicken perfectly charred on the outside and juicy inside. The prawn curry was rich, spicy, and full of depth, with tender prawns soaking up every bit of that bold, flavorful sauce. Paired with fluffy basmati rice, it was an absolutely divine meal from start to finish.

We had a wonderful dinner last night. The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavour, and perfectly cooked. Every dish was so good that we kept going until we couldn’t eat another bite. The service was excellent. Our server was very attentive and made the experience even better. We’ll definitely be returning.

Absolutely gross. My chicken was raw. I got the butter chicken and I had a piece of chicken and it was rubbery and bright pink. Reading the reviewed this is a very common and concerning reoccurrence. Another piece looked like it had barely touched the surface of any stove. It has only been 10 minutes since eating and I have sat there shock worrying if I'm going to get food poisoning. It's a health risk, please don't get your butter chicken or anything chicken related from here.

Service is excellent but the food was sweet taste not like normal Indian cuisine, they told me in new Zealand they like the food to be sweet because of thatbthey add sugar to the original recipe.

Tried to pull the soap (coriander) out of the curry but naah soap. Butter chicken also tastes like tomato soup, child that loves butter chicken wouldn't eat it. Got a to go container for the dog. First Uber Eats order from Cafe Eminem tonight. We really enjoyed all our food! Garlic cheese bread was great but a little expensive. Shrimp gnocchi was an absolute treat but addition of a few chopped anchovies to the sauce would elevate this dish. Chicken Iskender was ok but rice to mea ratio was a bit high despite ordering a large size - small amount of chicken. Felafel could be very much better - these are a bit dry and somewhat tasteless. Overall, however, lovely food and we would certainly order from here again. Quite keen to try their pizza! Teşekkür ederim

Carl's Jr. Palmerston North is a delightful fast-food haven that truly excels in delivering mouthwatering meals. Known for their towering burgers and diverse meal combos, this spot has mastered the art of crafting juicy, flavorful patties that leave diners craving more. The staff adds a personal touch with cheerful notes on takeout bags, enhancing the overall experience with their friendly demeanor. The Double Western Large Combo is a fan favorite here, consistently served fresh and bursting with flavor.
As always, Carls Jr is quick to serve its food. Especially impressive during the dinnertime crunch. Much better than McDonald's or KFC times for fast food in-store. Food is always nice to eat and no messed up orders! They've been consistent with the quality of the final product and I've not had a bad burger.

Higher price point than competitors' for similar quality fast food. The dining area needed more attention to details with cleaning. However, this is arguably normal for this style of fast food place. The quality of food has degraded since first opening in Palmerston north. Drive thru available, plenty of parking, limited seated areas inside. Drink refill station available with free refills.
Noel J — Google review
Horrible customer service. The server needs a refresher training course on how to serve their customer - she literally dropped our tray on the table right in front of our face. 🙄 The food was okay but the atmosphere of the place is a little too cold for our liking.

Marvelous burgers! Forget McDonald's, forget Burger King. This is the place for you! You can get any type of burger here. Even the chips are great! They also give you little holders so the burger doesn't go anywhere except in your mouth! The atmosphere is bright and happy, and the staff are all happy to get you anything you want. Thank you to all the staff for making it such a good experience!

First time having Carl junior and I must say what a total disappointment. We got our food home the chips where cold and soggy, we are literally only 5mins away, the order was wrong, the burger was also cold and tasteless and my partner has got a really bad tummy ache and doesn't feel well after eating his food. Neither one of us even finished any of the food. I don't understand what all the hype has been about to be honest. We will never go back.

Our food was delicious and the coffee was good but the best bit was being able to bring our Puppy along with us and not being limited to sitting outside, a real dog friendly cafe!! The staff were the best, bringing out a water bowl for our girl and they had the perfect balance of giving our pup some loves to begin with then continuing on with service without causing a fuss or extra excitement for our Puppy in training.

Had good expectations after seeing high reviews, but no latte art or nice presentation of our coffee, plus the cinnamon was just thrown on the foam, and was all over the handle of the cup. Expect more refined presentation from a cafe, was not a nice impression.

This busy café is conveniently located across from the hospital, making it a popular choice for visitors. The friendly staff are known for their accommodating service, even when guests arrive close to closing time.
Friendly staff and lovely food. The waffles were yummy with big chunky strawberries and raspberries. The pork roti was delish. And the fries were yummy. Great coffee also. Will be back!

The portion of chicken in the burger was a bit smaller than I expected, however the food was great and the fries were well seasoned with paprika.

Lovely, quaint cafe with a homely interior. Food was tasty and especially fast if you call it and place an order ahead. Staff were friendly. An overall good experience, would visit again :)

Busy little cafe as it's just across the road from the hospital. Staff were friendly. They did have some difficulty understanding our order but got there in the end. Hot chocolate was delicious. Food was a little slow to arrive but to be expected for such a busy location. When it did arrive it was well made and tasty. Worth a visit but keep in mind if you have a tight time-frame this might not be the place for you.

The team at the cafe were amazing, so accomodating. And kind. Turning up half an hour before they closed we didnt expect a service so great, nor food so good. I applaud the good work of the team on, on a saturday

Lovely staff, great vibes, awesome coffee and has a great variety of food on their menu! The interior is an artsy one, the details are fab! It gets busy around 11am, for sure it's one famous cafe here at Palmy, as locals love it too! Will be back, for sure!

We absolutely love Boho Cafe! Every time we visit Palmerston, we make sure to stop by. They’re so welcoming to our fur baby, so we can bring her inside and enjoy a meal together. The food is delicious, and the coffee is strong and delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and the toilets are very clean.🩵

I recently visited and had the coffee and sausage roll, which was priced at $23. While I was told the sausage roll was gluten-free, I found it to be rather average. The pastry, in particular, was a bit tough at the bottom, which was disappointing. For $16.50, I’m not sure the value is quite there. The sausage roll came with a small side of sweet potato chips (about four pieces), a little salad, and some jam marmalade. It felt like a lot to pay for what was a rather basic meal. Overall, not the most satisfying experience for the price.

Atmosphere was amazing super friendly and service the same fast and with a smile. Very clean and tidy place only downside chicken was very dry and food forgettable with no real flavor or seasoning. Chips where very plain and the snickers milkshake weakly flavored

This was a first visit to this Cafe for me but also for my grandson who lives local to the cafe? Breakfast was okay. I think my grandson would have seriously considered coming back and bringing friends. However the turn off was a senior staff member who asked us to move from an unreserved table. We checked first. The front of house staff were excellent and my review would have been so different but for the behaviour of the one staff member. She even started cleaning the table while we were still seated!!!!

Great service. They were able to cater to our 12-pers group even though it was last minute booking. They made arrangements and the food was served pretty quickly and were very good and filling.

While it doesn't have a traditional menu, patrons can enjoy an array of delicious options nearby. The cafe is perfect for breakfast meetings or casual brunches, with highlights like their scrumptious Eggs Benedict and crispy hash browns. Guests rave about the quick service and cleanliness, making it an ideal choice for those seeking tasty food at reasonable prices.
Great place. Eggs Benedict was really yum especially the hash browns. Food came out real quick too which was a bonus. Staff were friendly. Nice music. Lots of space. Prices reasonable too. Coffee was nice too, had a weird chocolate for the mocha but was still nice.
Danni H — Google review
I would recommend you not order scrambled eggs. They are very watery. Other things were nice to eat though.
Sade B — Google review
Today, we ordered a few meals. I had the bacon and egg panini. Now firstly, the bacon and egg panini also had cheese. I don't eat cheese and this was an issue. Other food items on their label said they contained cheese, but this one didn't. Anyways, the bacon in the panini was rubbery, dry, and hard, and the egg tasted funny. Food was warmed. We also ordered a toasted sandwich with a scone, it wasn't that special, and was actually quite bland. Service was really bad, couldn't understand what the person taking our order was saying as their voice was too quiet. Atmosphere was okay, but was still bland.

Kind of on the average side food wise. Iced chocolate was pretty good but the scrambled were bland and overcooked. It was also quite overpriced for what you got. The café itself is located in a weird place too.

Nestled in the charming Hokowhitu Village of Palmerston North, "Indian Love Story" is a culinary gem that has garnered rave reviews for its diverse menu and rich flavors. Diners are particularly enamored with their naan and poppadoms, which elevate the dining experience to new heights. Many patrons have returned multiple times, often bringing friends to share in the delightful offerings. While some dishes like the Mango Chicken may vary in sweetness compared to other establishments, the overall quality remains impressive.
Gosh this place is fantastic. Quite unique meals but be warned, they are huge. either come with a big appetite, share, or ask for a takeaway after the meal. Super friendly staff who genuinely want to make your experience a memorable one. Some of their dishes are only available here, in all of Palmy.

Aww, it is really awkward to write a review for a awkward restaurant. Guess one of less priced restaurant and people in restaurant behave cheaper than its price I ordered kerala paratha, it came with a melted plastic with it. When I raised, no one is bothered to reply back and disconnected my call abruptly Avoid eating in this cheapest as you get everything poor in quality Some Cheap Indians are cheap Indians! My first experience was Pathetic...

My regular Indian takeaway was closed tonight so tried these guys. For $30 (butter chick, naan and coke) the amount of solid chicken was disappointing as you can see in the image. 11/4/23 @ 6:45pm

We really enjoy Indian Love Story meals! Very delicious. However, i definitely agree with previous reviews in regard to the minimal amount of chicken in the curries. Same with entrees, when you pay nearly $20 for an entree (chicken65) and you receive 4-5 very small pieces of chicken it is very disappointing. Thankfully delicious even if small

The best nan bread I have is from here! A hidden treasure really, as the shop is so invisible and hidden away with no signs pointing towards its direction. Perhaps it’s a family business, and they may have a small team so don’t want to get too busy? Regardless, the food is nice and I am satisfied. The waitresses there were very polite, lovely and respectful. Hard to not give her a tip!
Vaenovia — Google review
My second visit here. The first time it was with a group and we had a preselected range of dishes. I could not fault it. The second time also with a group and we selected individual courses. Having just been to another Indian restaurant in Auckland a few days prior it was good to compare as I had the same dish. My dish Mango chicken unfortunately did not match my previous experience. Although it had a good mango flavour I found it too sweet for a main course. It also failed in quantity as the amount of actual chicken was sparse. It was more like a soup dish. Thank heaven for the rice to soak it up. My guest enjoyed her dish but found it a small serving compared to our previous experience. Both dishes were more expensive than our Auckland meal. The nan bread though was very nice. The service was very friendly from this family owned restaurant and could not be faulted. As for drinks it’s BYO but I had a alcohol free beer which I was told came from the Middle East ....... avoid!

Lovely food and people! We dined here midweek and were so impressed with the quality of the curries. Th ingredients were fresh and everything was just right. Columbus Coffee in Palmerston North is a delightful spot that truly embraces the essence of New Zealand's seasonal produce. The menu is always fresh, showcasing the best local ingredients. Visitors rave about their rich and satisfying coffee, particularly enjoying drinks like mochas that are full-bodied rather than diluted. The café also offers tempting treats such as Banoffee Pancakes, which are a must-try for pancake enthusiasts—though they can be quite sweet!
Had coffee only. On the bitter side (watery taste) of taste as beans grains found at th3 bottom of the cup. Great service, ensuring a good experience They need to tweak for smoother coffee. Hopefully they improve for come back.
Mohammed — Google review
One of the worst café experiences I’ve had. First off, the chips were a complete rip-off at $17–$18. They were dry, floury, and bland—no seasoning, no effort, and not even a dipping sauce, which should be standard at that price point. It felt like they just threw frozen fries in an oven and called it a day. My partner’s frappé was even worse. The glass it came in had baked-on grime both inside and outside—honestly disgusting. You could see the residue from the previous drink, and it clearly contaminated the new one. How hard is it to wash a cup properly? To top it off, the tables were filthy. No one came around to wipe them down after customers left. We had to clear our own space just to sit. It was honestly gross. Between the overpriced, poorly prepared food, the dirty drinks, and the lack of cleanliness, I don’t see any reason to go back. Columbus Coffee seriously needs to lift its game.
Brecon H — Google review
Phenomenal brunch! Wow I saw the prices yesterday and honestly walked away. Today I thought I’d give it a try. So glad I did. Yes expensive but unfortunately i’m aware the rent of having a shop in the plaza is astronomical. Mocha was nice maybe a little too sweet but hot and delicious. Food great 👍🏻 they loaded the bacon up which was great 😊. If I wasn’t moving away I’d be back for sure.
Danni H — Google review
Busy location in the mall which can be distracting, however convenient location for those shopping breaks. Coffee was OK, however high price, plus you will be paying extra for plant based milks, which again is higher than other cafes. Variety of food options available and plenty of table seating options.
Noel J — Google review
Good service. The food came out fast but it became clear why. We were after a hot breakfast so got a combo of our favs. Mince and cheese savoury, pancakes and eggs on toast. Disappointed to say the least. The savoury was microwaved, the pancakes were cold and the toast with eggs was barely warm.
Tanaya R — Google review
Not sure why, but it takes an inordinate amount of time to prepare a toasted sandwich. Finished coffees and side of fries and had to chase up toasted sandwich. Once could be excused but not twice on separate occasions.
Ken D — Google review
Nice cafe. On a mall so it inlu has so much 'atmosphere'. Make sure you make clear what it is you want from the cafe and ensure that you aren't inadvertantly upsold any extras.
Justin M — Google review
I just went there for breakfast and had the Potato and Chorizo. Frankly the $24.95 I paid for it was $24.95 too much. The potatoes were microwaved and the spinach was tasteless.. there was some sort of tomato relish thrown on there and god knows what the big clump of paprika was meant to do. I would value this at about $3.95 and that’s been generous.

From savory noodles to hearty hot pots, curries, and rice dishes, there's something for everyone. The cafe boasts a vibrant atmosphere that's perfect for casual dining or catching up with friends. This place is amazing! My wife and I went here four days in a row. The food and bubble tea is absolutely delicious. Super friendly and lovely workers too. Very kind and accommodating to all our needs. Fish in the tank are super cute too! Between us and a few friends we almost tried all of the bubble tea flavours (we had 18 bubble tea drinks) and they all were fantastic. Would highly recommend.
Braydon M — Google review
Great ambience. Was a bit put off kilter as the menu on their google listing wasn't accurate - we arrived at the store expecting to spend a certain amount but ended up spending way more... and not feeling as filled up. Had to go elsewhere for snacks. They also charged me extra for ordering no toppings for the bubble tea... never had that happen before elsewhere. Maybe that was a mistake? CHicken karaage was really nice but on the expensive side. We also had the crispy pork on bok choi... too our surprise, it was quite hard to eat. DIdin't finish the meal. In summary, if you've got deep pockets, come here for the great ambience. Not sure this is a family-friendly place due to the price point.

We’ve eaten here over a hundred times in the past four years. The past four times have left a LOT to be desired. Wrong orders, not having cutlery, size of meals change, everything is an inconvenience to staff now, meal sizes have changed significantly and the quality has dropped. The value we saw in this place is no longer there, and I can’t bring friends to what used to be a reliable regular for us. Especially when there are 7 other similar restaurants in the same vicinity. Such a shame, because this used to be great.

We always used to order the carbonara from here as it was the best in town, went there today for the first time in a while and… the picture speaks for itself. The sauce is scrambled eggs, have used normal ham instead of pancetta and just… I have no words. This place used to be so amazing - based off the other reviews they seem to be under new management/ownership.
Shyla G — Google review
Sadly no longer the place we’ve known to love for the last 6 years. Our most recent visit, the food was comparable to an average pub pasta, at best with way too much pepper. The authenticity and love has gone. Such a shame.
Katlyn A — Google review
The staff was friendly. The interior looked like an authentic Italian restaurant. But the foods weren't. We ordered one large pizza and two pastas, and it took more than 40 minutes. I ordered a Margherita pizza, and it wasn't. (Check the photo. It is my bad for not checking the ingredients carefully.) The pizza dough was more like bread. It was more similar to Pizza Hut-style pizza. The lasagna was terrible, with a bitter taste, as mentioned in another review. The other pasta was okay, according to my partner.
Dongwan C — Google review
First time ordering Kai from il capo and ordered through deliver easy so my review is purely based on the Kai. Kai was really yummy, we ordered 2 pizzas and 3 pasta dishes which we shared out between 7, 2 adults and 5 children so small portions of each pasta but enough for a full serving for all of us. I ordered everything as is so I could see how everything was without any extras. Pizzas were yummy I love blue cheese so I ordered the cheese pizza, very well balance of cheeses without the blue over powering so the kids still enjoyed it and the other great amount of toppings and flavour was great, only critique on the pizza was the base is a little dense but still really enjoyed and filling. The pastas had great flavour and really yummy too, the fettuccine had a nice thick creamy sauce so did the tagliatelle. The lasagna was ok, the bechamel was creamy and had nice consistency, pasta cooked great but the mince and tomato lacked a little oomf. Though the Kai was great and really satisfying I did give it 4 stars based on the little things. Still really great and happy with what we had would order from there again.

really not a fan. overpriced, paid $20 each for two small pizzas which lacked flavour and was very average. the thickshake we got tasted of vanilla and barely lime. extra $9 for a gf pizza which i haven’t paid that price before to switch.

What a fall from grace, we used to love IL capo, but haven't been in a long. There is new owners and we wont be back, the pizza base was from a super market. the ingredients were of very poor quality, they didn't even start cooking our phone order until we showed up to pay and there was no customers. This place used to be amazing and full of people. Cant see it lasting long unfortunately. RIP IL Capo

Dim sum restaurant
Tasty Restaurant is a delightful gem that stands out in Palmy, offering an authentic Chinese dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by friendly staff who go above and beyond to ensure your comfort, even setting up baby chairs for families.
Family favourite Chinese restaurant, come here very regularly and they have consistently delivered good dishes and service !! Dim sum and dinner is equally yum! Highly recommend this place! On a side note, if the tofu 花 was served with ginger syrup, it would make the dish 10x better :)
Dana Y — Google review
The service was great. We arrived when it was just opened for business and the waitress was very friendly and welcoming! Helped to set up a baby chair for us too. The dim sum can be considered relatively authentic and good. Char Siew Pau and Century Egg Lean Pork Porridge were not as good those in Hong Kong and Singapore but the Lau Sha Pau, Har Gow, and Lor Bak Ko (carrot cake) were comparable. Lor Bak Ko was fried crisp on the outside and soft and tasty on the inside. The filling in the Lau Sha Pau tasted good except a little too sweet. Har Gow is perfect, skin not too thick and prawn is fresh. I would recommend these 3 types of dim sum. Will I come back? It’s a definite Yes as it could be one of the better dim sum place In Palmerston North.
Evangeline T — Google review
If you’re looking for a fine dining experience, this isn’t the place. It feels more like a big takeaway shop with tables. No customer service, and the staff speak very limited English. The restaurant also wasn’t very clean. The stuffed tofu and sesame balls were delicious — highly recommended. But the chicken feet were very dry, and the beef tendon and tripe tasted strange and not fresh. The cold noodles were almost inedible and completely bland. When we paid at the counter (no table service), we told the owner, and she said their chefs don’t know how to make cold noodles and many others had complained too. If that’s the case, why is it still on the menu? We still paid full price even though we could barely eat it.
Toni S — Google review
Hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Palmy, even better than a lot of other Chinese restaurant in Wellington. Their yamcha and their Chinese dishes have always been very consistent, delicious and tasty. Portions are also very generous. The service and staffs have been amazing and have always been very accommodating even when they’re busy. Highly recommend this place. Do try theirs spicy sour soup, and their Peking duck.

The Chinese Restaurant with yum cha dim sums to order. Some of the items are only available on weekend. We ordered the black sesame roll dessert but replied that the restaurant has stopped offer this dish for a while. On the whole, the food are yummy with reasonable price.

Tasty yum cha. Huge steam prawn dumplings. Fried chive dumplings and lotus leaf rice as good as Hong Kong yum cha.

Great service, but I find the food too salty for my personal taste. The Steamed Beef Tendons were too dry and Wonton Soup tasteless.

Dined as a group of 9 and had the banquet selection of food served over about the period of 1/2hr. The longest part was the entrees then the remainder of the meals came in quick succession. BYO. The restaurant features a stunning Frida Kahlo mural and plush booths where guests can savor dishes like chipotle beef cheek, slow-cooked pork shoulder, vegan nachos, and delectable desserts. The establishment is known for its excellent cocktails, including various types of sangria, tequila, and mezcal.
I am not usually a big fan of Mexican food, but the menu here is has a lot of variety and I ordered 2 items from the snack menu. I enjoyed the fried chicken very much. I enjoyed the fries also, but was not a fan of cheese sauce ( maybe that's just me! ). The restaurant set up is beautiful, the service is lovely and everything is extremely clean ! Overall a nice experience and a good place to catch up with friends

Absolutely lovely staff-especially the lady with the shaved hair. I wandered in here after a bit of a traumatic encounter with one of the cities low lifes and the she was so kind. The service was fabulous. I ordered a margarita to calm my nerves which was perfect 👌 not like these sugar drinks you seem to get alot of places. 5/5 experience here! The service was exceptional as was the food. One of our favourite meals during our visit to N.Z, very tasty and flavoursome. Would definitely recommend! We ordered the shared set menu, it was incredible.
Steph H — Google review
We’ve been regular visitors to Libre for a long time and have always loved the food. We usually ordered the same favourites every time, so we were excited to go again tonight. Unfortunately, the experience was quite different. The menu has changed completely. The corn chips and dip we loved are now an up-charged corn chips and guacamole. The beef enchiladas are gone, and sadly so is our favourite dessert — the chili chocolate mousse. Nothing on the menu really excited us anymore. The new menu feels a bit all over the place, with only five main options, and prices have gone up significantly across the board. We even understand the idea is “to add flavour,” but honestly… hmm. To make matters worse, another diner next to us advised us not to bother with the cocktails because of how small they were for the price — not something you want to hear while dining out. It’s a shame, as Libre used to be one of our go-to spots, but with these changes, we’ll likely look elsewhere for now.

OMG the "Pasion Ardiente (Burning Passion)" cocktail is the absolute BEST! Can ask for it to be less spicy if you want. We just came for drinks this time.

girl, don’t even waste your time. $22 for two tacos is robbery, and check my homies plate next to mine - she got the cauliflower for $18. she shared a bite with me so we at least could laugh at how bad it was together. the flavor was two notes: peanut butter (why?) and burnt. my tacos were mid, honestly if you want better mexican food, just support a food truck. it’ll cost less and also arrive quicker than 45mins after ordering!

We had the chicken mole, flank steak and the peanut slaw to share. Both cooked very well, great flavours and served nicely. Spice levels really quite warm, but that suited us. Couple of cocktails and a few glasses of wine amounted to an enjoyable evening. Would have been 5 stars but we were left hanging for our first drink. Lovely wait person, but it was Friday evening after all!

Dessert restaurant
Chokolato Downtown Shopping Centre is a delightful gem that transports you to a charming European villa right in the heart of the city. This cozy café is perfect for those seeking indulgence, especially with their rich dark Belgian hot chocolate that truly satisfies any sweet tooth. The freshly made ice cream, particularly the unique coffee flavor, offers an unexpected twist that's sure to impress.
Wasn't expecting anything this good before we walked in the mall, this place gives me a feeling of walking into a little villa in Europe. We were looking for Ice cream on Google then we thought it would just be another ordinary ice cream place, but not, they make their own Ice cream here freshly. I tried the Coffee flavour one and its very different from anything I have tried before. Very friendly service. They have another side for fine dining as well. 👍👍👍

Stopped there for a quick bite to eat before my ride turned up. Bought a big thick delicious chocolate biscuit that made my mouth water. The texture was soft on the inside with a nice crispy outside. Price was very reasonable. Was really happy with my purchase and will definitely visit again soon. Staff are really pleasant and the atmosphere is relaxing.

Yeah...I mean...you know...it’s a little café. It’s comfy. Bubble tea and gelato is good (although a smaller selection of the latter now). Convenient to town and capable, friendly staff. 👍🏻

Wrong name, it's now called "Flavour". Came expecting a dessert restaurant. Turns out it's a basic bar and restaurant and cafe with a little ice cream freezer at the front. Not sure the restaurant even knows what it's trying to be. Nothing looked exciting or appetizing. Won't be coming back.

I loved this place. I loved 😍 ♥️ ❤️ 💗 💙 the ice-cream . My favorite was Chocolate 🍫 ice-cream. I would recommend this place to anyone. The ice cream 🍦 was absolutely 💯 delicious 😋.

Worst ice cream I ever tasted in Palmerston North; so sweet until I got headache. No creaminess at all & the taste was so fake until I'm not sure what did I just ordered. Will never come here again, that's for sure.

I understand that it was 26th of December, but 3pm most of the ice-creams was already finished. Didn't have vanilla, chocolate flavours. The ice-creams were a tad too sweet for my liking. The service was very good. I wouldn't go there for ice-creams again.

I'm always on the hunt for a decadent hot chocolate and Chokolato's dark Belgian ticked all the boxes. My toasted sandwich was really nice too. I'm from Wellington and typically a Butlers girl but if this place was closer to home I'd struggle to choose!

Just wanted to say how pleased I am with the cake I ordered from you! I was communicating with Chelsea via email and I also want to point out how lovely she was and how easy she made the process feel. It came out exactly how I asked and it tasted delicious. There were so many compliments on it as well, so props to Petit Fours. Thank you for making such a beautiful cake for my 21st. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning for future celebrations :)

Thanks for the fantastic cake (wild flower cake from 4 october). We ordered from Auckland without having been to petitfour before, the process was super easy via email. Staff were super friendly and professional. Cake had lovely lemony flavour and beautifully decorated. Thank you so much

A showstopper of a wedding cake! Our wedding cake was an absolute dream—beautifully designed and even more delicious than we imagined! Every layer was full of flavour, perfectly moist, and clearly made with love and care. It looked stunning and fit our theme perfectly. The process from design to delivery was seamless. The team was so helpful, professional, and genuinely excited to bring our vision to life. Guests are still raving about the cake! Thank you for adding such a memorable and delicious touch to our special day. Highly recommended!

Taking a decorating class is so much fun! They make the best buttercream icing that you get to pipe in varying ways - it pipes so beautifully. There is help and guidance to recreate the design that you have watched piped in front of you from start to finish with clear descriptions on how and what you are doing at each stage. I would highly recommend taking a class. Even if it doesn't quite come out the way you envision, it still looks so impressive. And best of all you go home with cake!

I ordered custom cupcakes for valentines. The topper I wanted was a realistic heart and we agreed if I could find or make it then they could add it on top. I made the hearts and they put everything together and I have to say that the results were STUNNING! I was over the moon when the lovely team presented the cupcakes. They did such an amazing job and I’ll definitely be a returning customer!

Got a white chocolate double layer 15cm cake made for a gender reveal. Didnt want anything too fancy just simple white on the outside and coloured in the inside, and it tasted amazing. Will definitely be using this company again.
