Pleasantly greeted on arrival and service throughout was attentive but not intrusive - a lovely atmosphere to eat and relax in. Complimentary Amuse Bouche tapenade & warm bread to start - beautiful fresh tasting. I opted for the most amazing blue cheese & chive soufflé for starters. This was breathtaking and the best l've ever tasted - a generous portion - go try it. For mains we opted for the steak & wellington venison - yummy but l have to comment on those vegetables too - WOW. My husband decided on the rhubarb panna cotta which had an exquisite taste and texture..... we shared a little. Cannot wait to come back.

Called in by chance after train trip. Set price menu including a dedicated gluten free one - 1st we have seen in Yorkshire! Personal service given by Jemma and Jane with Matt in the kitchen - food was delicious, delivered in a timely and friendly manner. Cant recommend highly enough, but book ahead to avoid being disappointed.

Had an evening meal with my girlfriend, her brother and his wife. A great end to a week long family holiday with the kids. This night was sans children and just what we needed. Lovely little place. Great food and atmosphere. I especially loved the scallops and cheesecake dessert. Service was terrific; the younger blonde waitress really worked hard to make us feel welcome, and was a real asset to the operation. We opted for the full three courses which we felt was perfect value. Highly recommended and will hopefully return again some day.

We had a wonderful time visiting Willowgate Bistro for my girlfriend’s birthday. We were slightly late arriving however after a quick telephone call the team were more than happy to accommodate us a little later than booked. I was delighted on arrival to see they’d purchased a lovely birthday balloon and positioned it next to our quiet table in the corner of the restaurant. What a nice touch! The food was fabulous - we had duck and steak followed by lemon cheesecake and chocolate tart, all cooked and presented beautifully. The wine and cocktails were superb and the staff couldn’t have done more for us. We had a fabulous meal at Willowgate Bistro and have already booked to return this weekend as the final meal of our holiday. Highly recommended, many thanks!

We came across this restaurant by chance and managed to secure the last available table that same day. The quality of the meals & choice offered was superb matched by the impeccable service, the scallops starter, blue cheese souffle & belly pork were outstanding, matching the quality of food of a Michelin starred restaurant at half the price. Wow what a fantastic hidden gem! We were passing through on our way from Scotland down to South England and were in the area for the evening. Google suggested this bistro as highly rated so called ahead to see if they had a table, we were in luck. Arrived to a lovely building on a cobbled street to a warm welcome from the waiter and waitress. The ambience was lovely and the menu had great choices for all courses. Everything we were served looked amazing and tasted delicious. We cannot wait to return on our next trip up north!

A charming bistrot with a warm and romantic atmosphere. The service was fantastic, and Gemma deserves a special mention. She was attentive, friendly and went out of her way to cater for a person with allergies. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and made with locally sourced ingredients. Everything was excellent, but the pork dishes stood out as the best.

Possibly quite literally the best indian we've ever had. I've not touched indian food since I got food poisoning from a takeaway local to us in Chesterfield so I was really hesitant to try it and I wasn't disappointed. It was incredible. Really enjoyed it. Managed to get parked up right outside too. Bonus.

Excellent selection of dishes, including some more unusual vegetarian ones. Large portions and great service. Could not fault the food, atmosphere or service in any way. Busy with locals, even on a Monday night, which is a good sign!

This is our fave place for an Indian. Not just because the food is second to none but the place & team are ace! Every time we go, doesn’t matter how long in between we’re made to feel so welcome by Abdul, Ali & team. If you’ve never tried Spice 4U in Pickering, you’re missing out!! Thanks guys as always. I had high expectations when I entered. After reading the reviews, I was excited. Unfortunately my hopes have been shattered. Can't say it's the worst indian food I've had, but it's definitely on the bottom of the list. The butter Naan was awful. Avoid it at all Costs. Appetizers were oily. Restaurant was really busy so service was not the greatest. Still trying to figure out why it was so busy.

Excellent service with some of the best Indian food I’ve ever eaten, the chiefs special was to die for ! Would definitely recommend !!

Me and my family had the rogan lamb josh, tikka masala and butter chicken. I was especially surprised to find that the rogan josh was practically flavourless, hints of tomato but that was it. The tikka masala and butter chicken didn't have much flavour either. The garlic naan bread was mediocre too - not very garlicy. Our waiter was cheerful and friendly but with such a disappointing curry nothing else matters.

Came in quite by chance as our hotel restaurant couldn't accommodate us and were very pleased we did. The food was excellent and the staff were very attentive. Five stars all round 👍

We met up with friends for one night. Had a room in the courtyard which was very nice with every thing spot on. Had our evening meal in the dining room. The young staff attending us were a delight. Made sure we had everything we needed without being rushed. The meal itself was delicious and well presented. Good choice for breakfast. We checked out but were able to leave our car parked until the afternoon allowing us to explore the Castle and church. We will return

We just had a meal here and drinks and it was amazing. Right from calling to book a table the staff and service and food was outstanding. Staff couldn't do enough for you, attentive, clear and concise and built a rapport with myself and family. Highly recommend the Lamb!! Just wow.

Absolutely disgusted with this place booked for 3 days only stayed 1 night stayed in cottage badly set out stairs dangerous. Dirty socks left by previous guest under settee lots of dust lack of sockets not suitable for anyone with disabilities. Food in restaurant average and over priced

Called in for food, not booked, but we were accommodated. Lovely menu choices. Very pleasant staff, excellent service and delicious food. Would definitely recommend and we'll return another time.

Lovely place to stay. Great food and friendly efficient staff. We had a ‘hideaway’ room and it was perfect with every amenity we could wish for. The welcome pack was informative and written with great humour. Highly recommend.

This White Swan Inn truly has 'IT', and yes that 'it' is in capitals. From the moment you check in nothing is too much bother, the reception and the staff are both impressive and impeccable. The night manager who greeted us went above and beyond in resolving my 'one day out' mistaken booking. The room and the bathroom were everything the website promised. The bath a double ended affair was a veritable swimming pool of hot water. Breakfast, my favourite meal of the day, was without question the finest Inn breakfast I have eaten, the offer was as bountiful and varid as I could have wished for and the lady who served us was as with all the staff, magnificent. Having said all of that the true judge of a hotel or an Inn is found on the bed and the nights sleep. Nearing 70 years old I have no memory of how a baby sleeps, I can only hope that infants are rested as I was after my night stay at the White Swan Inn.

Great place to stop, especially for a family. They have plants, miniature railway, playground with a little food van which does breakfast rolls and pizza later on. We had a wander around the farm shop, we couldn't buy too much unfortunately as we are staying in a hotel. The meat looks lovely, so much choice. Lots of baked goods too, I brought a cherry and apricot flapjack. We decided to have brunch so we went to the cafe, they were busy inside so we had a choice to sit outside (a little windy summers day) or wait for a table to come free. We were pressed for time so we decided to brave the wind. It was quick service, again a good choice of food. I had a fab hot chocolate and the hot buttery cinnamon toast, I'll be honest I wasn't expecting much. When it came out It looked so good, two doorstop sized multi grain toast covered in a sweet cinnamon butter. It was delicious, even my other half who wouldn't go near multi grain bread said he would have eaten that. It's definitely for someone with a sweet tooth. My other half had the lighter breakfast which he enjoyed, bacon was his favourite. I would have loved to come back for a Sunday roast or a pizza but I'm at the end of my holiday now so will save it in my maps for next time.

Best quality breakfasts at reasonable cost,well equiped childrens play area with model train track & ride at selected times. Farm shop with top quality meats,pies, pasty's fresh veg. Fancy goods , birthday cards, cakes biscuites alcohol, soft drinks etc etc. Some goods on the expensive side but you are generally buying better quality. Well worth a visit.

9 of the 'Plus4s' walking group, turned up ravenous and ready for a breakfast. Despite the early hour, being a Sunday, the café was surprisingly busy. However the manager was more than happy to assist us, to be seated together and moved ...screens and tables to accommodate us all. The service, food was amazingly good and extremely good value. My flat white coffee was hot and tasted lovely, impressive. The staff are all hospitable and looked after us all so well. The shop and butchery are all worth a browse round too. Highly recommend. Thanks to all the staff and lovely manager. P Highly recommend.

2/8/25 Calderbarn Farm shop was unknown to us on our journey. We stopped by for a quick lunch. First stop was the cafe which at peak times can get busy and reservations are not needed, however there can be a significant wait time and for that they give you a buzzer for when your table will be ready.The site has other things to do such as the farm shop with some freshly made food from the farm. I had the black pudding sausage roll and it was bloody delicious. Prices amongst the shop can be a reach but considering the freshness and effort, it's worth it in the end.Calderbarn also has a miniature train ride, small park for kids and a doggy park (bookings only). Plenty of parking and seating available. If you're in the area or passing by, it's definitely a stop to add. Wouldn't recommend it for a full day out but as a lunch stop, highly recommended.

Can't believe anyone would complain about Sunday lunch here. Excellent food, well prepared and served piping hot. On top of that served by very pleasant young staff. It was as good as the missus cooks, can't give any better praise than that. PS the breakfasts are top class as well.

We live locally and use the farm shop often and always found them helpful and accommodating.we always recommend our holiday guests to visit. However we decided today to have our lunch in the cafe and were really disappointed, the staff did not make us feel welcome just an inconvenience not one smile. It doesn’t cost anything to smile at your customer and give a warm welcome.Then our meal came we had ordered steak pie peas and chips. Quiche salad and chips, each meal had nine chips each potatoes aren’t that dear for the price you charge for each meal surely you can give a decent potion of chips. Come on Cedar barn you can do better than this.

Beautiful food and well kept bar and beer. Sandwiches are Devine and so fresh! I’d eaten 2 of the sandwich’s before I took a photo 🤣 Claire knows what she’s doing!

Love this place. Chilled and friendly with great pub grub and a cracking little bear garden - all right smack in the middle of town Scampi and chips were lovely as was the steak baguette. - will definitely return next time we are in the area

⭐ Disappointing Family Meal After Scarborough Day Trip Wasted opportunity in a charming setting. We stopped at the Bay Horse in Pickering in mid-May 2025 after a family day out in Scarborough. The pub looked promising from the outside - potentially a real gem in this picturesque Yorkshire town. Sadly, what followed was nearly two hours of frustration and disappointment. Our family of five waited ages for food that can only be described as below average. Half of our order arrived, then we waited another 20 minutes for the rest. The pizzas were particularly shocking - they tasted like £2 Chicago Town frozen pizzas bunged in a microwave! The entire experience felt like something from Fawlty Towers. Service was painfully slow, the place needed a thorough cleaning, and the value for money was terrible given the quality. My advice? The Bay Horse should stick to serving beer and abandon food service altogether, as they can't manage it properly. Such a shame as the building has potential, but needs serious improvement in cleanliness, service speed and food quality. I rarely write negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share our experience to help others avoid similar disappointment.

After waiting 20 minutes past "it will be out in 5", my family had already finished their lunch. The food was ok so worthy of 3 stars but the bar tender had zero people skills and the kitchen failed on delivery. Barely worth the 2 star review I leave. The hygiene was questionable since I had to select another knife and fork for a clean set and the carpet was absolutely disgusting (modern but months over due at least a quick clean). 1st and last time we will visit that pub.

Didn't realise the kitchen didn't open til 1.00pm. However, as we were pressed for time we had to chivvy our meal along. Well, it was worth waiting for. It was the best meal we'd had all week. Presentation good, nice and hot and above all, delicious! Compliments to the Chef. I had the lasagne and my husband the Gammon. Thank you to all staff who were welcoming and attentive. The most delicious steak and ale pie! Love this place, no airs and graces, just excellent home cooked food. We got our food order in at 12.30 on the dot, and others that came in after had to wait a long time, because the kitchen was under a lot of pressure. It's no wonder they are popular. My advice would be to half the size of the pie (it's huge!), and to offer a little freebie to people who are having to wait a long time, like a side of onion rings or something else for then to pick at. It would be a shame if anyone gave a bad review because of the wait, when the food and the staff are so lovely 🙂

Lovely comfortable feeling about the pub, Clare & Ray are good hosts. The food was very good & plenty of it? Thoroughly recommend the spitroast 🤣 had a very good evening & a good Laugh !! Booked again tonite. Already looking forward to my promised Sirloin.

I am very disappointed with the service and attitude received from this restaurant. Having previously had enjoyable meals here, I had high expectations when we recently ordered the roast duck and roast pork vermicelli, along with chow mein. Unfortunately, the food was extremely poor on this occasion — so much so that we could not eat it at all. We telephoned the restaurant to raise our concerns, explaining that the food was very dry, lacking any sauce, and that the seasoning had not been evenly distributed. Some parts of the noodles were excessively salty and spicy, while other parts were stuck together in large, unappetising lumps. The chow mein, in particular, was so dry it felt as though we were chewing rubber. When we first called, the response we received was dismissive — we were simply told that "it is supposed to be like that" before the call was abruptly ended. We called back a second time to clarify that our intention was not to seek compensation or free food, but simply to provide constructive feedback in the hope that the quality could be improved for future customers. However, even then, no apology was offered, and the staff continued to insist that the food was as it should be. I have eaten vermicelli and chow mein from numerous restaurants, including this one, and I can say with confidence that what we received was not of the standard we expected. I appreciate that sometimes a different chef may be working, or that there can occasionally be inconsistencies; however, a sincere apology would have been appropriate and would have demonstrated some empathy and regard for customer experience. Refusing to acknowledge the issue and dismissing a genuine concern says a lot about the attitude towards customer service. A simple apology would have shown professionalism and respect, and it would have gone a long way towards maintaining customer goodwill. Regrettably, after this experience, I am hesitant to order from this restaurant again, particularly for noodles. I sincerely hope improvements will be made, both in food quality and customer service, for the benefit of future customers.

Very quick, polite and efficient service, serving good quality and very tasty food. A bit quiet when we called in so the atmosphere was a bit muted. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and try another dish off of the menu as plenty to choose from.

Not impressed at all with this place, Visted with my wife and 7 year old daughter. Place was empty apart from another two tables It had zero atmosphere & the place just looks dirty. The food wasn’t great my wife’s chicken sweet and sour tasted off Was cheep enough just wouldn’t recommend or go back Shame as I love a good Chinese

Had a takeaway during my recent holiday. It was, without doubt, the best Chinese Takeaway I've had for many years. Plenty of Meat in the Special Fried Rice and Chow Mein. Really tasty, without too much added salt (which is a problem at many places). Good prices and super quality, well done.

Takeaway order. Ready in 15 minutes but incorrect. Chips substituted for rice. They were cold and not pleasant. Crispy duck was dry and did not seem fresh. Was very finely chopped. Pancakes were pre packed in plastic sealed bags. Our main courses looked re heated rather than freshly prepared. We did not eat all of it but gave some to our dog. Both of us and also our dog are off our food today. I have fond memories of this restaurant from a few years ago. This was not what I expected.

Me, my partner & our little boy came here for a sit down meal & we absolutely loved it! The food was so delicious & tasty! The staff were so welcoming & happy☺️ we left very happy, satisfied & very full!

Had a takeaway from here and it was delicious, we got chicken fried rice, plain noodles, chips, prawn crackers and curry sauce which had peas and onion in (not what we usually get in curry sauce). This was for 2 and we couldn't eat it all, great value for money.

First time visit to this cafe in the centre of Pickering. Good choice of breakfast and lunch options. Quick and polite service. A mix of people just having coffees and some having food too. Ordered a ham & egg salad and a flat white coffee. Both were lovely. Good value and would visit again.

Good coffee, tasty cakes and light breakfasts and lunch at a reasonable price. The front part of the cafe has well spaced tables. The counter and the back of the cafe are up some stairs, but there is table service. The staff are helpful.

Regular breakfast spot when visiting Pickering. Usual breakfast items, including porridge, breakfast sandwiches etc. Food is always consistently good. There are also a good choice of cakes available which goes great with a coffee. Service is great, our dogs always get a lot of fuss.

One of the better cafes a long the high street, plenty of space inside, i had the ploughman's bagel, this highly rated plenty in the sandwich for a good sized meal perfect for summer, and all very reasonably priced

Excellent food, we had english breakfast bagel and eggs benedict with spinach plus a coffee and a tea. Both meals were delicious. The only improvement would be to serve hot food on warm plates rather than cold.

Absolutely superb. A little bit pricey but fantastic fish and chips. We were staying at Flamingo Land and thought we try and find a chippy nearby. There was this one and another one in Pickering we saw. We thought we'd give this one a try and we were not disappointed. Probably the best fish and chips I've had so far.

It was very busy when we arrived. We ordered our food and it was ready in about 15 minutes. I had fish and chips with scraps and they were delicious. Chips were nicely cooked, not like the blanched offerings at some places. The fish was nice and white and the batter was crisp and golden. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Well worth a visit.

Visited this place again on Good Friday evening.. On placing the order, they were very apologetic about the appropriate 1 hour wait for the food to be cooked, but TBH we had other things to do to pass the time, so went back around 3/4 hour later to collect, even though they had obviously been extremely busy, and it was after 8 pm, the staff were all friendly, and the food was well worth the wait. Looking forward to our next visit soon.. ;-)

We stayed near pickering for 4 nights and went here twice because it was so good. Tasty fish fried to order and chips superb. We had the small fish and chips £6.80 and just managed them without feeling we had over done it. In Nottingham where we live the same size meal would be twice the price, half the size and half the quality.

Manic inside. Very popular especially with telephone orders. We had take out. Small fish and chips to take out one with peas the other with curry. Had a choice of spicy or mild curry which was different. Chose the mild which was fine. Opened it up once we got back to where we were staying and initially thought it was greasy but once settled on plate it was fine. For a small fish we thought it was quite generous and chips were about right. All in all very tasty, enjoyable and fulfilling.

We had a wonderful meal at the Namaste Bengal in Pickering on the 21/09/25. It looked really colourful when it arrived, and didn't disappoint in taste either. We left completely full and satisfied. The staff were so friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. If we are ever up this way again, we wouldn't hesitate to pop in for a meal. Had the best Indian meal here that I have ever had. Mellow, tasty, subtle flavours in excellent balance for the palate.The service was excellent, friendly and second to none. Went last night and had a great meal. Nice interior, lovely fresh food, and good service from the guys there. We’ve been to all of the Indian restaurants in town over the years and the Namaste is by far the best. If you’re coming to Pickering and want a curry go to the Namaste. You know it makes sense.

Spending a weekend at Forest Holidays and they delivered for 5 of us which is a distance. Was within the time they said, food still very hot. All different curries and each one very tasty, tender big chunks of chicken and lamb. Lovely service taking the order and delivery guy very nice. Would highly recommend 👍👍

When arriving to the restaurant it was quite empty just 3or4 tables was taken. We was sat in a little area until our table was ready for us as we were a party of 8 this took no time at all for the staff to put together. Then we was offered bottle water along with our drinks whilst we looked through the amazing menu. After placing our order we waited 90 minutes we then asked the waiter where our food was as by this time the restaurant was getting more people in which was served food before our party and he just laughed and said it’s coming , I thought this was very rude and insulting. 10 - 15 minutes later the food arrived and I must admit it was really good or we was probably that hungry we’d have ate anything.. I just want to say if it wasn’t for my daughter’s hen party we’d have walked out and gone somewhere else . I’d just like to say your staff need to be trained for customer service if you value your customers review.

We got a takeaway from here tonight. Absolutely outstanding, the service when I collected the meal was lovely, the restaurant looked full and the smells were lush. We got back to our lodge to eat ours, portions huge and food beautiful, only one tiny complaint was the salad with the starter was just a pot of soggy lettuce

A lovely small (ish) Hotel/Inn/Coaching house. The room was immaculate and very well designed - with much more than I expected - the fresh coffee bags were brilliant. The welcome from the owners was brilliant, very friendly and very helpful. ALL the staff were very lovely and friendly. Breakfast went over my expectations - as did the service at breakfast. The whole place is lovely inside and out - the area out the rear is just lovely. The only recommendation I can make to the owners is - keep doing what you are doing - you have a lovely place and lovely staff.

The Black Swan is a fantastic place to stay in Pickering! The location is great, right in the middle of the high street, with pretty much all the local attractions within walking distance. The staff were very friendly and service was great! We stayed in a twin room which was a good size and very cozy. It has a mini bar (water is free) which is handy and ensuite shower. The hot water/heating system is great and you can adjust the temperature easily and get it exactly how you want it. The only thing which took a little getting used to was the automatic lights in the bathroom- it doesn't register movement in the shower so if you take a little too long all the lights go out (probably telling me to get out!). Breakfast is delicious with lots of choice and was very tasty with generous portions. As it's quite small (and breakfast gets busy!), they do staggered arrivals at ten minute intervals- if you need one of the first slots due to an activity etc, I'd recommend emailing ahead as we found the early slots were the busiest. We had dinner there one night too and it was fantastic, really delicious and one of the best meals I've had- we went for the sea bass and the vegetarian curry and both were excellent!

we went to The Black Swan for a short stay, everything was great, clean and very comfortable. The staff and owners were helpful and polite. The only downside was the days we stayed, the restaurant was not open and the bar closed early. We did stay mid-week, so it's possible this was why.We were told that when it was quiet, the bar tends to close early. We did not know the restaurant was closed until our booking was confirmed. This did not spoil our stay, although the choice would have been nice.At the time it felt more like a B&B

Lovely old coaching house. Had a 2 night stay very recently,the place is immaculate and the hosts and staff were lovely. Had one meal there,sea bass it was awesome. We shall come back, would highly recommend to anyone considering a stay in Pickering and parking is easy too! Oh yes,very quirky and different gents toilet 🤭

Our two night stay was made more enjoyable by the very welcoming and friendly staff. The room was more than adequate, very clean to a high standard as was the en suite bathroom. Food was excellent with efficient fast service. The bar was well stocked with a wide range of beers, wines and spirits. If we are in the area again the Black Swan will be our first choice.

Fantastic find. This was our first visit but we will definitely be back. Rooms are spotlessly clean and everyone was so helpful and friendly. We had Full English breakfast which was beautiful. Highly recommend.

We didn't stay in the hotel, only went there for Dinner. the food was excellent and there service was brilliant. You will need to book in advance as it gets booked up quickly

What a shame. This place used to be really good but I am guessing it must now be under new ownership and they forgot to get someone in the kitchen who can cook or knows how to prepare food. It is definitely not fitting of an 'Italian' label. I can't imagine how anyone who has even been to Italy could serve a rocket and parmesan salad with chunks of Parmesan and no balsamic evident in the taste, just olive oil. The pizza was ok at best. The risotto was sickly with chunks of chewy ham. This was so disappointing as a meal out, I had been expecting a treat, and for £50 for 2 people, I could have made much better at home. It is very rare I leave food but this food didn't really warrant eating and the image shows what was left when we left.

Visited Pickering last week and popped in for an evening meal. The staff were so welcoming and efficient. Food was lovely, good size portions, and just about managed a dessert as well! Wine was really nice. Would definitely visit again if we returned to Pickering.

I am surprised by a couple of recent negative reviews for this restaurant. 8 of us visited a couple of days ago as we are visiting the area for a few days. Every meal was spot on,so much so that we have all agreed to visit again before we head home The food is excellent and we have eaten in some top restaurants in Italy,the staff are helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit.

Family friendly excellent with my 6 month grandson. Nothing was too much trouble. Food excellent. Prices reasonable. Will go again. A definite little gem of a place.

Having previously had an average experience and a great experience, last night the food was below average. Atmosphere and staff still great but chicken special was anything but. Whether its to your taste or not there's no excuse for poorly cooking the ingredients.

Arrived without booking at 5pm when they opened. Seated without a problem, however even at this time on a Thursday it filled quickly with pre bookings. I would recommend booking in advance! Excellent, quick service and lovely food. Atmosphere? Not cosy, a bit like a posh cafe and not for a romantic meal, but we enjoyed a nice Italian meal at a reasonable price.

3 of us went to this pub over the weekend 2 nights in a row in the weekend just passsed. We were visiting the area from the South of England. The food (pies especially) were phenomenal. The waitress that served us was first class as well. What an absolute asset to the business she was. Extremely attentive and helpful. Thank you for your service. The Howardian is a good beer there too.

The food was lovely and exactly what we needed after a long day walking. The Yorkshire puddings were light and fluffy, the gravy was thick and full of flavour and the beef melted on your fork. Portions are huge, unfortunately no room for sticky toffee pudding will have to try next time.

Got to say the food is absolutely fantastic We had the coach house chicken and a steak pie...both stunningly tasty and proper Yorkshire portions. A great selection of hand pulled beers served by very friendly staff. Will definitely be back.

My brother got married in the coach house, it was beautifully presented and situated in the most scenic part of the Yorkshire Moors. The food is of an incredibly high quality and could easily be in place at a 3 Michelin star restaurant! The service staff are very jovial and accommodating. The landlord keeps a high standard throughout the pub and it shows, overall it was worth the 8 hour drive 🤣😊

The team did a wonderful job of hosting a special family occasion. Also went the day before for a more "typical" experience and can say the choice and quality of both the food and drinks is impressive. Great ambience too, welcoming to weary travellers or locals alike. Only criticism would be it's all the way up in North Yorkshire, and is therefore too far away to be my local. Sort it out Dave! 😉

Visited for a drink and enjoyed lovely service and a great atmosphere. The food on our second night was mediocre at best. Yes the pie was okay with plenty of meat but the chicken was microwaved frozen and the sides were also microwaved within an inch of their lives. Disappointing for the price.

The Coach House Inn hosted our son's wedding and what a truly fantastic job they did. From the decoration of the venue to the attentive and efficient nature of the working team and the absolutely delicious meals that were served, they provided outstanding service throughout. We would not hesitate to recommend The Coach House Inn whether it be for a larger celebration or a very tasty pub meal.

A fabulous tasty menu. Halibut and lamb were chosen and both were fantastic. The ice creams we had were the best ice creams EVER. Thankyou.

Lovely pub in a quiet village. Food was excellent if a little pricey (but worth EVERY penny in my opinion) Possibly the best pub Sunday lunch ive ever had. Nice beer garden, dog friendly, nice staff...... couldnt fault it. Didn't stay there so can comment in the rooms (even though Google makes me) but ive no doubt at all that they will be good. Nice place.

Fabulous traditional Yorkshire Inn. We went for Sunday dinner and were given a very warm welcome by the female member of staff. The place had a lovely atmosphere. Service was superb with our drinks orders taken and served whilst choosing our meal from the menu. We both decided on the Rump Steak. When it arrived we were not disappointed, beautiful quality beef with a large home made Yorkshire pudding and jug of gravy. The veg consisted of wonderfully roasted potatoes, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage and a medley of green vegetables, good sized portions, quality ingredients cooked to perfection. The meal was delicious. We decided on a pudding each, white chocolate mousse and a sticky toffee pudding, both home made and both delicious. Will definitely return and highly recommended.

we arrived late to a local place we were staying in and nipped in to see if food was still be served to get something to eat. we were informed that it did stop at 8:30 (we arrived at 8:20) but they did seat us. upon looking over the menu many of the items didn't have a description of what was included making it difficult to understand some items. we asked for recommendations and if there was anything vegetarian for one of us as the only thing we could see was a mushroom dish. we were kindly advised that the soup of the day was shallot and potato which was vegetarian. we also ordered a fish and chips and 2 soft drinks (lemonade and orange juice) the drinks unfortunately only filled a half pint glass about 2 thirds of the way and when the food arrived the fish was soggy and while the soup was tasty it was cold. while all the other tables around were been checked on nobody came to ask how our meal was and made us feel like an inconvenience. while we understood that we had arrived late this did feel like it was purposefully done and we decided that rather to inconvenience them any further we would just pay and leave which had a total bill of about £35-40 for the starter main and 2 small drinks. we were advised upon leaving that they can cater for vegetarians but they do need to be rung in advance and this requested

An excellent pub/hotel. Good food with friendly service. Rooms neat and tidy. Good shower. All in a very beautiful village. Well worth a consideration if staying in the area.

Wow what a wonderful place to stay! Everything about the Fox & Hounds was fabulous… the staff exceptional, the food exceptional and the room was fabulous. What more can I say - you must stay here if you get the chance. Thank you so much for looking after us so well.

Really nice country pub/hotel . We didn't eat but did have the bar snacks which were delicious . We sat outside in the lovely beer garden and had local beer and Guinness. The bar staff were really nice .

I can confidently say that Spencers serves one of the finest Sunday roast dinners I’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the warm, cozy atmosphere made us feel right at home—exactly what you want for a traditional Sunday meal. The roast itself was flawless. I opted for the roast beef, and it was cooked to perfection: tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The Yorkshire puddings were massive and perfectly crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Each element on the plate—from the golden roast potatoes to the seasonal vegetables—was clearly prepared with care and attention to detail. What really took it over the top was the gravy: rich, velvety, and absolutely delicious. I could have eaten it by the spoonful. My dining companions had the lamb and the vegetarian nut roast, and both were equally impressive. Service was friendly, fast, and genuinely welcoming, which added to the charm of the experience. It felt less like eating out and more like being treated to a lovingly made family meal—only elevated to restaurant-quality standards. If you're a fan of a proper roast, Spencer should be at the top of your list.

We visited spencers bar and grill while we were on holiday in the area. There is plenty of parking available and has a great atmosphere inside. We visited just after 5 pm. on a Wednesday evening, and it was quiet, but after 6 p.m., it did get a lot busier, so I recommend booking in advance. The menu is okay. It doesn't have much available, and you don't have a desert on the menu. You will have to look at the blackboard to see what they have on offer. There are plenty of seating areas we sat in the conservatory over looking the park. There is plenty to do in the garden for children to play on from slides to swings to roundabouts. The only thing I didn't like behind the children's park is a pond with no barrier around pond, so please keep an eye on your children as it's very deep water. I ordered a burger, and my wife ordered a mixed grill. The food was lovely but not the best but the price was very reasonable, better prices than local pubs. My children had pizzas, and they were amazing. I would highly recommend getting pizzas as they are not too big but really tasty.

We love this place. Family atmosphere. Food is amazing. Make sure to book as it does get very busy. Great play area for kids. Just beware its by a lake/pond for younger children.

Staying at Black Bull touring park in our touring caravan, Spencer's was recommended as a good venue. We have visited twice now for food and drinks and have to say it's a very nice venue. Friendly staff and the food is amazing. Excellent portion sizes and great value. Ps I'm vegetarian and the selection is excellent which makes a pleasant change. Definitely recommend a visit

The menu was different to the menu we had looked at online, there were fewer choices. The 16oz rump steak was over cooked & cut up into slices. Chilli was watery & tasteless. The place was noisy & no atmosphere. Wouldn't recommend it & definitely won't be going back.

Absolutely fantastic place, just wish we had found it sooner, as only a couple of days left of our holiday..would definatey recommend you wont be disappointed. Made welcome by staff and locals

Very friendly and welcoming service. Not rushed. Great starters, decent curry and nice naans and chapattis. For me, just missing more authentic raita and pickles to make it really amazing. Certainly ss good as any elsewhere in Pickering and better than many.

We have eaten in here and enjoyed it a lot. The takeaway we just received is appalling. Bland, lukewarm, doesn't seem to have even salt in it let alone any other herbs or spices. £50 on some watery tastes less sauce with 4 lumps of dry meat in it. Three currys with different ingredients of different spice levels and they all taste the same, like someone's poured boiling water in them to make the sauce go further.

Vile. Wouldn't recommend. Watery sauce. Sweet with coconut whatever we ordered. Was like chicken in sweet tomato soup. Nan breads also awful. Quick delivery but a complete waste of 70 quid. All went in the bin. Think we must be spoiled with coming from the Curry Capital of Yorkshire. Will not return.

We ordered and collected a variety of curries and sides for our holiday home. The staff were very kind, the portions generous and the taste delicious. Recommend for a treat while in the area.

If you fancy an Indian, you’d get nicer microwaveable/ jarred in a supermarket. I’m writing this immediately following on from eating it so can’t report on if it’ll make me ill but I wouldn’t be surprised!! Have you ever had a stale and bendy Popadum? Me neither before tonight! King prawns? More like runted Asda Saver ones in chicken stock water. Not to mention, the chicken was beyond dry. The chips were soggy and tasteless. There was not a single component of our order that was even alright taste-wise . I’m not a great cook by any means, but could have done a better effort myself and saved £30!!!! Robbed. Guys were pleasant enough in there, but you can’t smile to make something this bad okay!!!!!!

Unassuming cafe next to a large car par. We both had all day breakfast and strong filter coffee very good loverly bacon and slabs of grannary toast,. Table servive loverly polite staff.

Came on visit to Pickering, looking for a quiet place for lunch. We had sandwiches and salad, all very well presented and fresh. Coffee was excellent, and the staff friendly and efficient. Altogether an enjoyable experience, would highly recommend.

One word for the food and that's Amazing. We have spent 4 nights camping at Pickering Vintage Rally and have eaten at both pizza venues at town. I didn't leave a review for the other as I only leave a review if the food was amazing or terrible. Chicos food is amazing. We had a 14" Vegetarian pizza, chicken nuggets and chips, a large donner kebab and a garlic bread with cheese. The chilli sauce and yoghurt dip were to die for,

We order 3 large pizzas this evening. They were made while we waited. As an added bonus we got a free garlic bread. The pizzas were absolutely delicious and piping hot due to be freshly cooked. It didnt take them very long at all to make and cook them even though they had multiple orders on the go. The guys behind the counter were really friendly. Overall very happy with the service and food. One thing to note is that its cash only, but there is a cash machine in the Coop round the corner.

Staying at wayside lodges nearby, and decided last minute to order a takeaway saw chicos online and had fab reviews so we ordered! And did it exceed the reviews 100%. We met the gent that delivered our pizza at the front of the park and he was lovely! We got pizzas, burgers and the chicken Parmo and was it delicious, would recommend will definitely be ordering again when we are back. Thank you chicos pizzeria 😊

The typical cheapo "Italian" takeaway.. The food we had was low quality, the pizza was very poor. The coke however was cold, fizzy and fresh tasting (as it should be) and the breadcake for the burger was fresh as well, so I'll give this place 3stars instead of 2. The staff we dealt with spoke good enough English to take our order, but no more. It's certainly not a place that made us feel welcome, and we won't be coming back.

I’m not from the area and I’m always wary about takeaways I don’t know but fear not this place won’t disappoint 🙌 Really good takeaway food arrived on time and was piping hot.

Absolutely foul, the munchies box was absolutely soaking with the grease, the box was falling apart just picking it, you couldn't tell the difference between the chips and the chicken and everything was soggy and inedible, a dog would probably pass it up. The sweet and sour sauce was disgusting just tasted like pineapples. Don't ever go here, will never EVER be back and this the first time I have been so disgusted with the food I actually left a review. This chinese doesn't deserve to still be running

Absolutely yummy food😋 , polite service with a clean shop. Decent size portioned dishes, each dish would happily serve 3 people, hence the portion V's slightly high price. Definitely worth a visit if you love Chinese food

There's a reason this place has a hygiene rating of 1. We received a complimentary hair with a piece of skin attached in our prawn crackers. Someone should check on the cook, seems like he's falling apart. Needless to say, we didn't eat the prawn crackers. Rest of food was mediocre. Chips were soggy. Won't be eating here again.

I had the salt and pepper chicken wings. They were the best chicken wings I've ever had. I also had the salt and pepper chicken skewers with a satay sauce. I bought these 2 items because I was really hungry. After I ate I was no longer hungry. The service I received was efficient and friendly. Just remember it's cash only. Over all I'm more than happy and I will definitely return.

All i can say is ive had such bad stomach cramps and been on the toilet every hour from eating here. please avoid this is excruciating

Harry is the shining star at this restaurant, he’s so lovely and easy going, the food is immaculate and full of flavour, by far my favourite Chinese to go. So friendly and welcoming

Ordered Chicken and Chips. Chips ok but the chicken was rancid. Clearly left under the hot lamp for several hours. Chicken was exceptionally dry as a result.

Staff are friendly and helpful. We ordered pizzas and they weren’t great at all - the dough was very odd and the tomato sauce too sweet. You get a lot for your money but it’s really not great food.

Donna n chip wrap was good tbh, large kebab also good, the only thing was it was a large kebab 4 options available and it was roughly the size of a medium/ Small, but it was tasty and spot on. Cheers 👍🏻

Absolutely amazing! Staying in a hotel and don't know the area and found this place recommended by the hotel. Didn't really know what to expect but oh my god it was wonderful! Really easy to order over the phone. The lady who took our order was really nice and friendly. Very quick delivery, it was 30 mins from ordering to being here which I expected it being a lot longer. It was cheaper than I expected too and the free garlic bread was a lovely surprise too. The food was goregous! Really tasty, nice and hot. This has been the best garlic bread I've had in years, the pizza was wonderful and loved my chicken wrap. The staff were great and the service was wonderful. Could not fault anything

Ended up in bin where it belongs and I now have a 6 year old throwing up from food poisoning. Staff rude, aggressive and have zero customer service. They do not display their food hygiene score as I have since found that they only scored a 3. Avoid. £16 literally in the bin.

Nice hotel, friendly staff. Lovely breakfast. On arrival poster stating due to lack of staff unless prebooked they were unable to provide an evening meal. The same for the next night. They print off a list of local places to eat for you. Would recommend that if you wish to eat at the hotel you book the restaurant in advance.

Wonderful. These guys saved us after a company that lets cottages let us down late on a Sunday afternoon. Premier Inn Pickering took us in, and when we were asked about the nature of our stay, we explained and we were offered a free dinner (with a drink) and a continental breakfast the next day. We stayed in a Premier Plus room, which included a fridge (great for those with medication that needs refrigerating, or just keep a drink cold on very warm days). We decided to stay two more nights. Car Park was free and next to the hotel. Service fantastic. Bed legendary. Room fantastic value for money. We breakfasted up the road, but enjoyed dinner if we hadn't eaten out.

Rooms were exceptionally clean, beds lovely and comfy! Staff were very helpful really looked after us. Food was great both for evening meal and breakfast (especially the sausages). We really enjoyed our stay!

Appalling. Arrived late at night so was plenty of parking however it did feel very grimy within the hotel, the decor was something from a 1950s hotel, quite a surprise when the facade looked so modern, opening up the toilet seat within the room to be greeted with a skidmark, water pressure is little to none, marks all over the shower curtain, the room was shockingly sweltering and the ac did not work, speaking to other guests it didn't seem to be much better in their rooms, leftover bits of food on the table in the breakfast part of the hotel - there was also a hair in the morning breakfast egg, other premiere inns have a much nicer decadence that Premiere Inn Pickering falls much under. Would not recommend to anyone and would not stay here again, please opt for a honorable family b&b instead.

We booked a Premier PLUS room - but there seems to be no difference to a regular room. We expected a walk-in shower, 2 arm chairs, at least. Nope. Same as a regular priced room. So whilst the regular rooms are okay, this is definitely not worth the additional payment. Don't waste your money.

Had a room booked for 3 months with a walk in shower and confirmed 3 weeks before arrival. Reason is we are to old to get into a bath after driving 180 miles and to be told they could not supply a room with a walk in shower. Had to drive a 180 miles home again and they ruined our holiday which was going to be seven days.I suggest anybody going to that hotel to read the Rviews before booking up.

Great team what work here at this site. Free parking for Premier Inn guest. I went to use the self service machine to check in and get the card for the room the one on the right hand side as you walk in it froze when checking me in so had to use the one left of it as nobody was their to check me in. With my room being on ground level I didn't get phone & data signal so connected to Premier Inn Wi-Fi and their Wi-Fi is really slow and awful.
