The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop is a renowned bakery, deli, and restaurant that has been serving up the famous Bakewell pudding for years. The shop holds the original secret recipe under lock and key, sending out their delectable puddings to all corners of the globe. Visitors can also enjoy a delightful afternoon tea featuring various renditions of the iconic Bakewell treat.
A wonderful shop in Bakewell! The most delicious puddings, amazing food, lovely atmosphere with wonderful, friendly staff. Our experience was great, we went in for cream tea & the original Bakewell puddings. It was so nice we returned a few days later to have the cooked breakfast, Bakewell tart & deluxe hot chocolate! It was all so yummy! 100% recommend if you are travelling this way to pop in. Thank you ☺️

I had great service at the Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop and restaurant. I went up to the restaurant for breakfast, and was able to get a table, even though I didn’t have a reservation. I had the Original Pudding for breakfast, along with a pot of tea. It was DELICIOUS. I had bought a tart and pudding to bring back for my husband to try later, and we both preferred the pudding to the tart, though the in-restaurant experience, when it was served with warm custard, was the highlight. Would definitely go back!

Went in for lunch for 3 people. The food was excellent, but the service was atrocious. After being seated we had to ask for a server so we could place our food order. We ordered a soup and a main course and the person bringing out the food had to ask if we wanted our soup served before the main course. Why would you want them together. We wanted Bakewell pudding for dessert and had to ask for our dishes to be cleared so we could order it. Meanwhile other tables were being cleared. I asked the person serving the food and he said he’d send our waitress, but she never showed up and we never saw her again. I did get the server to order it and then had to ask again that it had been ordered. It took over 15 minutes to get their signature dessert to us. Overall service was appalling. The place needs more staff and better communications between the staff they have and then with the customer.
Roland S — Google review
A nice spot for breakfast if visiting the area. Slightly strange smell upstairs in the restaurant and they had run out of orange juice on a Sunday morning (9am) - I gladly had the last one but the rest of the group went without! Food was tasty but not huge portions. We didn’t have a reservation but were seated quickly.
Ella — Google review
On the main road through Bakewell is the original Bakewell pudding shop. Excellent place, that sells original Bakewell puddings and tarts and loads of other sorts of tarts, cakes and savoury stuff. They also sell lots of drinks including ridiculously expensive bottles of beer . There is room for dining and also a small beer garden type place at the back. Lovely old building, spotlessly clean , with friendly, helpful staff.
Richard F — Google review
Hard to visit Bakewell and not partake of a tart/pudding. This was the place we chose and the light bites were very nice and good value. We tried a Bakewell Pudding and a tart and it was very nice indeed. Definitely worth a visit if you are in town.
Mark F — Google review
The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop is a charming, well-maintained spot that feels deceptively spacious inside. Beyond its quaint exterior, the ground floor houses a bustling café, bakery counter, and gift shop, while upstairs offers a cozy restaurant serving cakes, drinks, and light bites. As a clear tourist hotspot, the shop was busy, with a lively atmosphere. The gift shop offers trinkets like mugs and jugs, with prices ranging from reasonable to pricey. Large Bakewell tarts were available for around £6. We headed upstairs to the restaurant, where a short wait led us to a warm, homely dining area. Limited seating added to the cozy charm, though it could mean a brief wait during peak times. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout. The menu leaned slightly expensive. A generous slice of delicious, fresh chocolate cake cost £6, while the famous Bakewell pudding, served with custard or cream, was £10 individually or £16 for a sharing option. Our group opted for individual puddings with custard. Though small, the puddings were warm, freshly baked, and delightful, paired with creamy custard. At £10, the price felt steep for the portion, but it’s a must-try in Bakewell. Alternatives like Bakewell tarts, sandwiches, and other cakes were also available. Overall, the experience was pleasant, blending touristy appeal with genuine charm. A visit here is worth it for the iconic pudding and cozy vibe.

Came here to try the famous pudding. Was surprised at the cost, so opted for a sharer between 4 of us. It was delicious - did not expect to like more than Bakewell tart but it definitely took poll position! Nice seating. Service was quite brusque

Nestled just outside the enchanting grounds of Chatsworth House in Pilsley, the Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop is a delightful destination for food lovers. Housed in a charming old stable block, this award-winning shop boasts an impressive array of high-quality products, many sourced directly from the estate itself. Visitors can explore a fantastic selection at the meat and fish counters, indulge in delicacies from the patisserie and delicatessen sections, and even sample locally crafted beers and spirits.
A must-visit if you're in the Peak District! I recently visited the Chatsworth Farm Shop and was genuinely impressed. The quality of the produce is top-tier—everything from the estate-reared meats to the freshly baked bread and homemade cakes was exceptional. You can really taste the difference in the local and seasonal ingredients. The shop is well laid out, beautifully presented, and full of unique items you won't find in a regular supermarket. It’s clear they take pride in curating their offerings. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the whole experience felt calm and inviting. I also stopped by the café—lovely views and a great spot for a coffee or light lunch. Food was good, though service was a little slow during peak hours, which is understandable given how popular the place is. Yes, it’s a bit on the pricey side, but you’re paying for quality and provenance. Definitely worth it if you appreciate good food and want something a little special. I’ll be back!

What’s not to love here? Great location, lots of free car parking, friendly staff, amazing views, dog friendly (outside) and yummy food! Had the superfood salad as I wanted something wholesome and it was so tasty. Highly recommended.

Having lived in the area some 40yrs ago but never got the time or chance to visit, we made a point of doing so whilst on holiday, especially after seeing it well presented on TV awhile back. Yes it seemed pricey but the quallity was there to see and feel.

This place has to be seen to be believed . Absolutely fantastic display in butchery , fish counter , deli , cheese and so much more . Open seven days a week. Call in you will not be disappointed.
Stuart B — Google review
Don't expect low prices, but you do get what you pay for. The food quality is excellent, and if in doubt ask one of the extremely helpful and polite staff members. I can't rate the place highly enough if you're looking for top quality items to eat and drink.

A lovely setting that is quiet and calm surrounded by woods. Lots of great plants and home items. The cafe outside seating surrounded by plants is a great place for a catch up and/or coffee

Love this place the food is always good, no matter what you have and it's hot, the staff are good. If you need shopping it's next door great food a bit pricey but good.

First visit left a good impression. What you would expect from such a wonderful estate.A good selection of local goods alongside those from other counties : meats, cheeses, savoury and sweet, wines and beers to name but a few. Quite reasonably priced too!

Nestled within the picturesque Chatsworth Estate, The Devonshire Arms is a charming dog-friendly pub and hotel that perfectly blends traditional hospitality with modern flair. Guests can enjoy comfortable rooms equipped with en suite bathrooms and complimentary WiFi. Dining options abound, featuring a bright Brasserie restaurant alongside an inviting bar area, both offering a seasonal menu crafted from fresh local ingredients sourced from renowned Derbyshire suppliers.
We initially considered giving a 3 out of 5, as five or six menu items were unavailable when we arrived — not the best first impression. However, the experience quickly turned around and absolutely deserves a 5 out of 5. The food was exceptional, and we’d like to send our compliments to the chef. Service throughout the evening was also of an impressively high standard. We started with the calamari and pork belly bites — both were outstanding. For mains, we had the sirloin steak and chicken burger, and again, the quality was excellent. The desserts were also a real highlight — truly to die for. One small detail I particularly appreciated was the vinegar served in a decanter-style bottle — a simple touch, but it really added to the experience. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely be back to The Devonshire Arms in Baslow

Stayed Saturday night at the Devonshire Arms. Staff very helpful and friendly. Had a wonderful meal in the restaurant. Beautiful lamb dinner. Very tender. It was followed by delicious ice cream. Very quiet overnight and lovely breakfast Sunday morning. Thank you.
Julie R — Google review
I didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t comment on the rooms, but we tried the chorizo, belly pork, tater tots, and chicken strips from the bar menu this evening — and they were absolutely superb. The service was excellent, and parking was easy. Thank you to the Devonshire team for a great experience!

We stayed at the Devonshire for 2 nights in mid-August for our wedding weekend (we didn’t actually get married there). The staff were amazing- Rachel and Lisa especially- so welcoming, friendly and helpful from booking to the weekend. We ordered a buffet for our family for the Friday night and the food was superb! We also booked one of their rooms to use for some preparation the day before we got married, and they were so accommodating for our needs. The hotel rooms were lovely: spotless, luxurious and cosy. Thank you so much for making our stay at the Devonshire fabulous.
Hannah F — Google review
absolute tomfoolery, waited by the bar for 10 minutes, was very quiet when my partner and I arrived, we were dismissed 3 times, once by a man behind the bar and twice by the same woman, the women served a couple who arrived after us and then attempted to serve another lady who was kind enough to redirect her to us, she seemed very reluctant to serve us, complete lack of service skills, or better yet social skills as a whole, only pleasant person was the lady sat at the desk by the entrance.
Gracie P — Google review
Not great . Took the family here for a Sunday dinner. Booked in for 6.30 pm . Arrived early and shown to a table quickly which was great but sadly our experiance went downhill from there . I needed the gents which I am sad to say one of the urinals were blocked and therefore had puddles on the floor. Not good. On being seated were then told they had ran out of 2 items off the menu and being a small menu this made the choice less. This was made worse when we were about to order that 2 more items were now also not available. Being a food establishment having food to sell to your guests is how you make your money is it not? So we ordered good old fish and chips as most of the carvery was now sold out and burgers are not my ideal . After the meal we were offered deserts and then told no coffees except instant as the machine had broken! I then ordered a mohito, 15 mins later it had not arrived only to be told they had run out of mint ! We then proceeded to the bar and yep. I wanted a Madri and you got it .. ran out of that also . All in all a poor experience
Stephen W — Google review
We had the celebration menu, 5 courses, £40 a head. Great value for money, the food and presentation were excellent. The waitress (Emily?) was very pleasant and attentive. All in all a lovely evening for a special occasion. Forgot to mention the cocktails🍹which were expertly done😀
Phil F — Google review
Really good freshly prepared pub food in the bar. Our fish finger sandwich & chips came pretty quickly & we're pretty good. The bar team were warm & welcoming. We had zero complaints, ....... even when they tried to deliver someone else's order to our table, ...... ......but we felt sooooo sorry for one of the guys at the neighbouring tables who had to watch his friends eat their meals & order dessert because his steak hadn't cooked right and needed to be redone. He had to ask 3 times where it was before an offer was made to refund his meal.....before it turned up. Meantime we'd finished our food & decided not to chance dessert. A triumph of inexperience that I'm sure will improve. We might hold off a return visit to allow that to happen.

Bank House Hathersage is a popular spot in the Peak District National Park, offering a vibrant and relaxed environment for enjoying great food and drinks. The menu features perfectly cooked beef, steaks, pork, and homemade dishes sourced from local suppliers. This award-winning pub also serves hearty breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas, and evening meals. Additionally, it boasts a fabulous apres ski tent area with a fire pit during winter. Visitors rave about the baked cookie dough dessert as well.
We ordered lamb burger and soft shell crab burger and this is too good not to leave a 5-star review. Loved the soft shell crab burger! I didn’t intent to order this at first but am so glad I changed my mind. It’s surprisingly good and portion was not small with a reasonable price. We don’t live around Hathersage but for sure will come back again next time, even just for the crab burger!

We dine in without any reviews searching, just because of way back from Derwent Dam , saw very sharp orange colour parasols, and found a public car opposite area . While sit on felt good for the outside dining area , and foods menu look interesting, first time saw soft-shell crab dishes on Pub foods . Delicious beyond my expectations on both meals . My wife meals with real King-prawn . They with a very high standard chef and kitchen team member . Thank you for let us with a gorgeous lunch . Servicing staff also very good . Highly recommended, and we’ve told many friends after the dining . 50mins to drive here from home, but will plan come again .

Boxing Day after a walk round Hathersage we called into the Bank House sat outside in the teepee nice and festive. The food menu looks good, but we only called in for hot drinks. Will call in for food when next in the area.

Booked on the terrace for food and drinks. First time visiting, and such a lovely place. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Everywhere was immaculately clean. Sat outside, with the aroma from the Indian down the road, and the chip shop adjacent.. makes you hungry! We had booked to eat, and each had the 8oz sirloin. Food was exceptional! Well presented. Cooked as requested. Really could not fault this place. Thanks!
Martin S — Google review
Fantastic atmosphere and food to die for - I had the lamb and mint pie with mash and followed by the Lemon desert and would happily have paid double given the quality of the food. Only slight negative was that they seemed to be understaffed in the kitchen so the wait was a little long. Otherwise though absolutely fantastic and look forward to returning next time I'm in town.
Quintus C — Google review
A lovely venue. But the food is definitely overpriced for what you get. 10 of us eat here. The seafood sandwich was literally a deli filler on a white hot dog bread roll, no butter, not toasted quite a let down, we all ordered a wide variety of food and no one was impressed with anything. My T bone was overcooked and had a lot of chewy bits. However the vine tomatoes were really nice as were the chips. Definitely won’t be visiting again. Very disappointed.
Paul D — Google review
Just very good. We had the seafood platter which was delicious, well cooked and balanced. Shared a couple of glasses of wine. The service was prompt and friendly. Also got lucky with the weather which was sunny and still - not so common for October, but definitely brought the experience together well.
Dovile Z — Google review
Fresh ingredients, vibrant flavours and overlooks the peak district. I only wish their service did match up to the high standards set by the chef - we arrived 10 minutes before our reservation and understandably they asked us to wait in the bar. We had to remind them around 15 minutes past our reservation time to get us to the table. The table service following this was much better and the food did make up for this rather cursory attitude at the front door.

Haddon Hall is a stately home located in the Peak District National Park, surrounded by several towns and villages of historical interest. The area includes Bakewell, known for its medieval market town and famous Bakewell puddings, as well as other villages like Castleton with its caverns and Peveril Castle. The guidebook for the Peak District covers over 150 locations including Haddon Hall, offering photography tips and directions to picturesque spots such as country estates and limestone dales.
Marvelous collection of historical buildings in a beautiful landscape location. Took advantage of the Gardener's World 2 for 1 admission offer tickets. Thoroughly enjoyed the guided talks in different rooms. A later lunch was excellent value for quality food and drinks. Well worth visiting again.

Such a fun visit. Loved seeing the place where so many films have been set, and learning about the castle's true history. Well-worth the visit; make sure to go outside and walk around the peaceful gardens.

Really interesting place with lots to explore..! I went to see the current exhibition about magic and superstition its very cool! Beautiful gardens and stunning scenery too. Lots of uneven floors and steps so not great for people with mobility issues and I wouldn't fancy taking a pram..parking is charged extra so be prepared for that. Highly recommend 👌
Evalynne C — Google review
A beautifully renovated medieval manor house hosting a delightfully styled exhibition about Elizabethan connections to magic and mature, informed, educating and entertaining. The beautifully designed gardens are a pleasure to walk around and the host volunteers are friendly and welcoming. There is a lovely restaurant on site, best to book in advance as it's popular. A experience, highly recommended
The C — Google review
Great place, we visited during the Magic exhibition and thought it was really well designed in both exhibition text and visually - it was stunning to see in the Hall. Guides were good- especially Chris M who showed us all of the scorch marks and was really informative. The café is small but the food was great. On our way out we were looking forward to the gift shop but found this disappointing, nothing about or related to the Hall or the exhibition. Though it's good to work with what I assume are local small businesses, a core retail offer remaining would have been appreciated as we aren't local so won't be back. The lady running the admissions desk kindly returned after closing so that we could at least buy the exhibition guide. Parking was easy with an attendant and payment was taken on entry as the exit barrier was faulty.
Natasha A — Google review
Amazingly well preserved medieval hall. If you visit on Mondays there are free guided tours, our guide was both fun and informative. Would definitely recommend the restaurant as well, great home made food at a reasonable price.
James M — Google review
It's a smallish medieval country house which is an independent business compared to those often operated by the National Trust. It's quite interesting architecturally but there's not a whole lot to see yet admission prices are quite high. We went whilst they had a theme on Magic and Superstition which was reasonably interesting if quite condensed. The cafe wasn't bad with a decent selection of food and drink offerings Make sure you are steady on your feet as there are significant amounts of uneven floors and stairs

Stones is the perfect spot for a nice meal, whether it be for a special occasion or a date night. The food is always perfectly cooked and involves different flavours or presentations making it a special meal. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. The restaurant is always clean and tidy, and beautifully decorated. Stones offer vouchers for their three course meal offers which are a great gift for Christmas or birthdays.

This was a recommendation from a friend and it was worth the hour and a half drive! The story I was told was that the chef was a Michelin star chef working in London, who was sick of the rat race and relocated to Matlock in Derbyshire. My partner and I opted for the 7 course taster menu and what a sensation that was. EVERY dish was an explosion in the mouth of complimentary flavours and textures. With the appetisers, the sour dough bread and the mous bouches , it turned out to be almost 10 courses. Just look at the photos! Unbelievable! The location is beautiful too. The outside terrace overlooks the river and the sounds of the water creates at truly romantic setting. The staff were excellent too and I’m surprised that Stones doesn’t already have a Michelin star! Out of this world and I would recommend everyone that likes food to try it! @ £80 per person, it is an absolute bargain. For food like this you would pay double that in London!

If you're looking for somewhere to have a wonderful eating experience - you've found it! You'll struggle to beat the excellent food at Stones Restaurant anywhere near here. We had the remarkable 5 course tasting menu today which, we all agreed, was as good as it gets. In addition there were really tasty amuse-bouche before the meal and in between some courses, and the whole meal was finished off with homemade chocolates. The staff were really pleasant, the decor was really pleasant, and the seating was comfortable. Each course was a masterpiece of taste and texture. Each course wasn't huge, but the meal as a whole was perfectly balanced and left everyone completely satisfied. On top of that it was superb value for money. In addition, in the warmer months, there is attractive outside seating with lovely views. A little gem - just sorry it isn't nearer to where we live, as it would be on the calendar regularly if it was.

Lovely! Went for our annual Birthday taster menu and it was great as always. Got to try a few things we'd never had before. A few items were quite salty which was such a shame but the puddings as always were th best part!

Restaurant
Located on Coombs Road, The Woodyard is a family-friendly restaurant housed in an 1800s building. It seamlessly blends traditional and modern cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere, offering dishes like slow-cooked pork belly and wood-fired pizzas. Additionally, it features a spacious beer garden for guests to enjoy. Moreover, the restaurant is conveniently situated near Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, making it an ideal stop after exploring these historic sites.
Beautiful modern restaurant set in an old mill, on top of the river which flows under. Service was excellent and friendly, the food delicious and well presented. We shared an appetizer of Prawns Salad and Smoked Salmon, my husband ordered the Parmesan crusted salmon which was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth, and I had the Spinach, Asparagus and Pea risotto with shavings of Parmesan, equally flavourful. All their wines are available by the glass.

I had lunch with a friend at the outside area near the river, which is one of the best features of this pub. She ordered the salmon with butter and lemon sauce which was very good. However, I was disappointed with my burger. The beef meat was overcooked and dry, the bun was also dry, and the burger was hard to bite into and gooey. Very good service, everyone was lovely.

First time here. A vegan and a normal person. Weird vegan menu, nothing appealed to me, so got a pizza which was yummy. Tea was gorgeous. Staff was lovely, and attentive. Step at back could possibly be fashioned into a ramp. I think this is a chain pub/restaurant. Outdoor seating. Pleasant visit.

I'm sorry to say but what an absolute rip off. It took 50 minutes of waiting between the starter and main. UPDATE.. we were never told of such a long wait at all or we wouldn't have ate with two children. Also, tell who? Noone checked on us in the meal and we couldn't get anyone's attention for further assistance. A refund would have been appreciated as was simply awful to be honest and we did voice we weren't happy and just got sorry as staff ran off. Didn't get chance to speak! I reused my starter fork for my mains as it was that difficult to get assistance. Thankyou for the apology and I think the photos clearly evidentiate my points. The starter sharing feta flatbread was good but we had 0 napkins, given no plates and it was overpriced. However it WAS tasty and it didn't arrive 15 minutes after ordering. After waiting 40 minutes, we asked where our food was as noone really gave any attention to tables outside despite the cost to eat there, the response was "5 minutes". 10 minutes later our food arrived. And omg, the most basic small and boring salad came, we added vegan meat balls but it was unseasoned leaves and unsauced dry meatballs thrown on for £18 it wasn't even worth 10!!!!! The kids ate pizza which only one enjoyed and I ended up eating whilst they had my special mushroom pasta that was just water for sauce. Ironically it was good to soak awful dry unseasonal meatballs in or drink which didn't seem appropriate to do ! Just ripped off with overpiced bad food because of location AND SERVICE WAS AWFUL. We grabbed a stand on ordering with only 1 napkin in and no alternative. Used stands were put next to the outside.bar a refilled eith napkins without removing cutlery left between uses. Servers ran off before I could ask for more and all 4 of us were disappointed. £80 of disappointment and a worse salad than weatherspoons. No real apology and the sauce on the pasta was as thick as water and of course the mushroom pasta was lacking mushrooms. I Feel robbed and we now need to find food as the salad was a poor handful of unfilling plain leaves. I said it was poor service as took ages yet they just said sorry walking off. Noone cared and we left. Gutted absolutely gutted. Just avoid.

we ate here on a tuesday evening in august, and it was great! the location is conveniently right next to an okay-priced public car park, which was almost empty when we visited. the woodyard is immaculate and well-decorated, and whilst not busy when we visited it had a friendly, lively atmosphere. every member of staff we encountered was smiley, helpful, and eager to help. the portions were huge, and alcohol reasonably priced. a slightly more expensive than average restaurant serving delicious food (i had the fig/prosciutto pizza, which was excellent! and my boyfriend had the risotto, which he gave a raving review). overall would come again!

A fantastic place next to the river and pay and display car parks. Lots of seating inside and some tables outside. But I recommend you book as it was very busy, on a Saturday evening, we just managed to book a table in the dog friendly part at 8pm, that's booking the 2 days prior. Great food, very large portions. I had asparagus & pea risotto with coats cheese and it was delicious. My partner had vegan sausage and mash with vegan gravy and loved it. Definitely worth a visit. Next time we'll try the pizza's and a dessert.

My girlfriend and I went to this lovely restaurant today, the staff were absolutely lovely and incredibly accommodating, and the atmosphere inside was also nice and chill - no loud music or bright lights. The food was divine, we had the woodyard burger (recommend!), the 10oz gammon and the Parmesan fries. It was cooked to perfection and if I could have eaten any more, I think I would have been back for dinner! Next time we’re in the Peak District, we will definitely be back, I highly recommend this place.

We ordered small bites only, the chicken hot chilly bites and the feta watermelon salad as those are only ones almost without wine or beer, they were good, the fries came nice, hot, crispy and yummy, the place inside is cosy but we would prefer beautiful outer seating which was closed due to rain

Restaurant
Located near the market town of Ashbourne, The Horseshoes is an award-winning gastropub with a spacious outdoor seating area and four garden rooms available for private al fresco dining. The menu features modern British dishes made with local seasonal produce by a Michelin-trained chef. In addition to an extensive wine list, the pub offers over 100 gins, including selections from local artisans.
New Head Chef and new menus. We booked for his second evening service. It's a set menu of 2 course £38 or 3 course £45. With lovely homemade bread and butter to start. For starters we chose the Chicken Terrine and Joe's hand dived scallops which were absolutely delishes. Mains were Cornish Cod,Brassicas,Chard,Smoked Roe. Beef loin & cheek, Celeriac, White onion. A dessert of Chocolate ,70% Valrhona Chocolate, Espresso, Clotted Cream. And a delightlighfully large plate of cheeses. The menu will change depending on what fresh local produce is delivered. The food was perfectly executed, as expected from a young talented chef such as Adam.It was great to meet him again and to see him back in action. Staff were pleasant and professional. The pub is part of Berkeley Inns, which is a small pub group with some other great venues. They are clearly aiming high with this new head chef appointment for their casual fine dining. We'll look forward to see how they develop and the word gets out. Future awards and accolades are on the horizon for sure.

My boyfriend brought me here for the Valentines Day Set Menu tonight and I cannot fault our experience at all. The food was perfect, amazing service and an amazing vibe to the restaurant. Very chilled atmosphere. The set menu was £45 for three courses, sometimes you can go for a meal and feel the food standard was not worth the price, but this was definitely not the case tonight. Definitely returning!

Food was excellent but we had to wait a long time, food came after about an hour of being there. There was also a few kids kicking footballs around the garden rooms which was a pain. So rather than the feeling of a garden room felt more like a playground.

Indian restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant town of Matlock, Maazi Hathersage is a delightful destination for those seeking an authentic taste of Indian cuisine. Founded by Irfan Shabir, this restaurant embodies the essence of his home, blending warm hospitality with traditional culinary artistry. The atmosphere is steeped in cultural heritage, enhanced by aromatic curries served in charming metal pots and the enchanting scent of incense wafting through the air.
Ordered a take-away after a leaflet menu had been posted at our caravan park in Hope. We ordered and paid online for delivery next evening. All delivery ok and on time. The delivery (set meal for 2) came in box and the driver called us once at reception. Meal contents came in the plastic microwaveable trays which was great as we didn't eat it straight away so could warm it up in microwave. Popudums were crisp (3) with onion tray. Bhaji and chicken pakora all good and tasty with the yogurt dip. 2 meals were great (tad watery but full of flavour) with 1 boiled rice, side dish and a plain naan bread (crisped up in toaster as that's how we like it. All good overall and will use again.

We enjoyed a wonderful evening at Maazi Hathersage dining with another couple, and from start to finish it was exceptional. The warm welcome set the tone for what became a truly memorable meal. The service was attentive and friendly without ever feeling rushed, and the team struck the perfect balance between professionalism and genuine hospitality. The food was outstanding every dish beautifully presented, full of rich flavour and perfectly spiced. The menu offers a superb mix of classic favourites and unique regional specialities, all prepared with clear care and quality ingredients. The sharing dishes worked brilliantly for our group, and every course was a talking point. The setting itself is elegant yet relaxed, making it ideal for an evening with friends. You can tell that Maazi take pride not only in their food but in the whole dining experience. A real gem in Hathersage highly recommended and without question one of the best dining spots in the Peak District.

We ordered takeaway and were very excited about its delivery. However the food did not live up to expectations. It was over cooked, bland and dry. Couldn’t tell if the prawns were actually prawns or chicken . That’s how bad! I would not recommend.

I visited Maazi in Hathersage last night and the food was absolutely incredible. I had the garlic chilli chicken and butter chicken — both full of flavour, perfectly cooked, and generously portioned. The restaurant itself is also lovely inside, with a great atmosphere and a stylish interior. However, the service really let the experience down. Our waitress (a young woman) was quite off-putting — she’d approach the table and just stand silently, staring at us for a few seconds, as if expecting us to guess what she wanted. It made the whole interaction a bit uncomfortable. At the end of the meal, we had to ask for the bill, which was fine, but she gave us no time to look over it before shoving the card reader in my face — without asking if we were paying cash or card, or even who was paying (which wasn’t me, it was my friend). It felt rushed and very rude. Overall, the food was fantastic and I’d come back for that alone, but I hope the service improves and the staff get some better training in customer service, it really took away from what could’ve been a perfect evening.

The Pack Horse Hayfield is a charming pub located near the base of Kinder Scout, the highest peak in the Peak District. The cozy atmosphere includes a crackling fire, local artwork, and a menu featuring meat and fish dishes as well as Sunday roasts. With regular quiz nights and delicious daily specials, this pub maintains its community feel while also offering an award-winning restaurant experience. Situated in the picturesque village of Hayfield, it attracts hikers exploring the stunning Peak District trails.
This was a fab trip to Hayfield. We booked in for Sunday dinner with our 2 year old dog. We felt welcome, atmosphere is warm and inviting. The food was absolutely delicious, we had scallops, trout, lamb as a main and 2 desserts and everything was fab. No complaints. The gravy in particular that came with the lamb was 10/10. Would recommend the old fashioned if you like cocktails. Service was attentive, non intrusive, warm and no complaints here either. If I was to be really picky I’d caution that the toilets are a shared space. So there are separate toilets for men and women with a communal sink to wash hands. This doesn’t bother me but I know a couple of friends and family members who would be put off. For 7 dishes (1 snack, 2 starters, main, desserts) and a drink each (cocktail and beer) it came to approximately £130 - so while expensive we loved it and would recommend it.

We popped in as a walk-in and they managed to fit us in, which was great. The place has a really nice atmosphere and the service was friendly. We ordered the Manchester egg for a snack, which was tasty. Went for the two-course menu at £47 each. I had the tiger prawns with chimichurri — the prawns were cooked well, but the sauce wasn’t really for me and could’ve had a bit more flavour. The amuse bouche and the bread and butter were both lovely though. For the main, we shared the charcoal roast Côte de Boeuf with chips, grilled courgettes and peppercorn sauce, which was an extra £26 per person on top of the menu price. The steak was cooked well, but both the meat and the peppercorn sauce were very salty, which was a shame. Dessert was the chocolate and peanut butter delice with honeycomb and milk ice cream. Nice idea, but again it was really salty. Total spent including x1 beer and table water and tip (about £170ish) for 2 people Overall, the vibe and service were great, but the food was a bit hit and miss for us.
K M — Google review
Loved everything about this place. Usually when you go to a restaurant or a pub which has been in Michelin guide it's difficult to get in as walk-ins. This pub is different as it has a separate area for walk-ins and they serve limited food to them as well. So if you have spontaneously decided to go, don't hesitate. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Service is fast and appropriate. Once there do try Manchester eggs, white bait fishes and chips. The food is exquisite and something which you miss when you are in city centre. The vibe is this place is chill and relaxing.
Arjun T — Google review
Absolutely exceptional in every way. We decided to try the lamb kofta, leeks and then the cote de boeuf. The tastes were so good. Highly recommend the cote de boeuf as a treat. I have lived fairly local to this pub for a number of years and heard great reviews. I just wish I had visited before now. Top class Gastropub food.

Four of us had a delicious Sunday lunch. Squid for starters was the best I've had. The service was friendly and efficient, thank you. The most impressive thing for me as someone with dietary problems was how professional and caring they were by having printed a separate menu with everything I could eat on it! Rather than having to go backwards and forwards with kitchen staff about what I could and couldn't eat (awkward for them in service), this had been thought through and attended to beforehand. Amazing!! Will be back and bring others too.
Danielle L — Google review
Absolutely stunning food and staff... At the end they apologised for the slow service as they where short staffed, we hadn't even noticed there where any issues, which shows how good their team is.
Rachel M — Google review
My partner and I had completed a hike from Chinley over to Hayfield and had booked a table at The Pack Horse in advance. Of course, the pub isn't necessarily budget friendly (Michelin registered and all that) -but you most certainly get what you pay for in term of food, service and atmosphere. There is an open kitchen where you see the staff at work. The three guys working in the kitchen on the evening of 11/10/2025 looked really passionate about what they do- we envied their skill 😊 and this quite rightly is something you're paying a more princely sum for! The mushroom ragu starter and gnocchi that I had were truly exceptional and furthermore, the mackerel and lamb my other half had were equally as good. Given the high quality, they were well worth £47 a piece for a two course meal. The herb butter and bread, small cracker and fig macarons were welcome touches as well. We both felt very full indeed afterwards so I feel there was a job well done there! Cheers 😊
Luke D — Google review
Now then. This was really really really good. Like absolutely no word of a lie brilliant. I'm going to say it was my best experience of hospitality and food in 2021. I read the review in the Times and thought hey I've family up at Christmas let's give it a go. Booked a table for 10 and rolled up in that fab bit of time post Christmas and pre new year. We went for a walk and rocked up a bit early, and the table was all ready for us and gave us time to have some pre dinner cocktails and injest the menu. I had a whisky sour and a Manchester egg to get the juices working, and my goodness, we all loved it. Scallops and beef followed. Well-timed and attentive staff made the meal flow with a laid-back form of professional friendliness that made me so very happy. The children and the dog loved it as much as the adults. We'll done to all the crew here who are really delivering a winner in Hayfield. It's better than you even think it might be. Not pretentious or too serious. It's bloody perfection. ***August 25 update ** guess what? It is still just as good and fantastic staff and food some two years later. The Baron Bigod cheese on maple bread was so good I couldn't even take a picture of it before it was gone. Had to buy the cookbook this time too and support this fantatsic place.

Place is lovely and the staff are friendly, but the service on a Saturday evening was very poor. We had booked for 8pm, pre-booked out meals and arrived early. Despite this, our meals arrived almost an hour late, and we're, for the most part, pretty poor. There are clearly plenty of people who love this place so I'll put it down to a bad day, but a shame nonetheless. If the meals were better, the value is pretty good for what you get.

The main thing this place has apart from where it is, is wonderful staff. To say staff isn't fair, more like a family who can't help enough, whether it's shuffling rooms to sort a mistake we made with the booking or giving ideas for walking routes with our very welcome dog. The rooms are cosy if a little tired but we spent most of our time walking the dog so that didn't worry me. To summarise, very welcoming and helpful, we always found ourselves in conversation with people we'd just met when in the bar, lovely.

Just wanted to take a moment to credit our server Joey, for the fabulous job he pulled off tonight, single handedly taking care of a 20 plus person party from a choral retreat! This pub is in a good location with a nice setting right in the gateway of the peak district. The Sunday roast and the dessert here was spot on, and the service is good and friendly. From the dining area, there is a pleasant view overlooking the surrounding scenery despite the carpark. Parking here isn't an issue, as the carpark is opposite and has plenty of space. The bones are there for The Cavendish to be terrific - it’s a beautiful, meticulously designed countryside hotel that was just named The Times’s Best UK Stay for 2025. Our experience left us desiring more, and at £300 per night I can’t recommend it. The biggest drawback is that the level of service just isn’t quite there - most of the staff are lovely and very friendly, but when we were checking out I mentioned to the receptionist that we were getting the bus to Sheffield and asked if she knew how we paid for it. She didn’t know and she made absolutely no effort to try and find us an answer - there were two other members of staff next to her and when I gently asked if perhaps someone else might know, she said ‘no one takes the bus to work’ and made zero effort to ask them. This just isn’t the level of service I expect for £300 a night and even less from a place with so many accolades. Politeness goes a long way, and a ‘I’m not sure, but let me see if I can find out’ was all it needed. Instead, it felt somewhat frowned upon that we were getting the bus to Sheffield in the first place. The rooms are nice and comfortable - other than a few cobwebs around the ceiling, I cannot fault them. The decor in and around the common areas is beautiful as well. Breakfast on both mornings was delicious, although I wasn’t sure why they sat us in The Garden Room instead of The Gallery for our second breakfast. Why leave the nicest dining room in the building empty? We ate in The Garden Room one night. My wife who is gluten free and vegetarian didn’t have many options - she ended up ordering the £19 broccoli and carrot main which in my opinion should be placed on the sides menu as it is incredibly overpriced for what amounts to essentially a plate of nothing but seasoned vegetables. A vegetarian risotto or the option of ordering gluten free pasta would be a welcome addition to the menu - there is so much wonderful produce from the estate to choose from that I hope they improve this. I had the steak, which was nice. On the plus side, the lounge area is lovely and the cocktails are phenomenal - they made the best espresso martini I’ve ever had. Staff wasn’t sure if the bar snacks contained gluten and had no way of checking either. It’s a shame to write this review as we were so ready to love The Cavendish and recommend it to friends and family. We made some lovely memories at Chatsworth during our stay, and the access-anytime-you-want tickets are great, but we feel no rush to return at £300 a night.

I recently stayed at this beautiful quaint hotel near the historic Chatsworth House and Gardens, and it was absolutely delightful. The atmosphere is so full of charm! It is so cozy, quiet, and filled with character. You can feel the history of the area from the moment you arrive. The rooms were beautifully kept, with thoughtful touches that made the stay feel personal and warm. Try the Chatsworth shortbread cookies, they are delicious! The Cavendish is the perfect place to unwind after exploring the nearby historic sites, hiking or strolling through the local charming towns. The staff were welcoming and attentive, always ready with local recommendations - especially Stephen who was extremely nice and very helpful. The setting is so peaceful. If you’re looking for a relaxing, charming stay near history and hospitality, this is the place to be.

We stayed at The Cavendish Hotel in Chatsworth, and while the property itself is charming, the overall experience—especially at their Garden restaurant—was disappointing. At dinner, service was inattentive from the start. We were given bottled water despite everyone else having water decanters, which felt like an upsell since we weren’t ordering alcohol. No one asked if we wanted drinks the entire meal. When I asked which dish was most popular, our waiter simply said “I don’t know,” in a curt tone—zero hospitality. Our order was placed right away, yet it took over 40 minutes for our entrées to arrive. Not once did anyone acknowledge the delay or apologize. When I asked another waiter (Dom) for an update, he just raised his eyebrows and walked off. My dish arrived with bacon—even though I had clearly emphasized no pork. It was obvious they had tried to pick it out because a piece was still left on the plate. Still, no apology, no acknowledgment, and no offer for drinks or anything to make up for it. My mom’s chicken dish, however, was actually quite good. We asked for the check and left. The hotel room itself was comfortable—nice toiletries, a fan, and clean setup. We did lose power in the morning, but it came back within 15 minutes. When we asked reception to book us a taxi to the train and Chatsworth House, they just handed us a number instead of arranging it. Thankfully, another couple told us you can get Ubers there—it just takes around 15 minutes. Also, you can’t actually see Chatsworth Mansion from the hotel despite what the website implies. The walk to the estate can be muddy, and unlike other nearby hotels, they don’t provide boots. On the positive side, the bar staff were incredibly kind and welcoming—they were honestly the best part of the stay. Overall, despite the Michelin recognition, the service and attention to detail didn’t live up to expectations. I’d recommend exploring other options in the area.

Restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque town of Bakewell, Restaurant Lovage by Lee Smith is a maverick Peak District eatery that has attracted attention from celebrities like Tom Cruise. The restaurant boasts a laid-back atmosphere with stripped-back decor and friendly staff. It offers inventive dishes such as cauliflower soup with curry granola and venison with date ketchup. Opened after a successful crowdfunding campaign, this four-year-old establishment has garnered praise for its modern English cuisine served in an elegant setting.
We were looking for a fine dining place to eat while in Bakewell and Lovage by Lee Smith did not disappoint. We went for the three courses for £45, however, note that does not include sides which is £5 each (and necessary if you don't just want to eat just meat!) That was my only gripe. We were served by Jonathan who was professional, hospitable and very knowledgeable about the dishes. The meal started with a delicious croustard and warm sourdough bread. I enjoyed every course. As an avid watcher of Great British Menu and the mouthwatering food that is served, I was pleased, and not surprised to hear that Chef Lee Smith was on this show. Delicious food, reasonable priced and I was full at the end.

The tasting menu was ok. Unfortunately we were 30 min late and the experience was a little bit rushed. I understand that being late was our fault, but bringing the first 2 courses simultaneously I don't think is the right thing to do... Be aware that is very challenging to find a parking space near the premises. I was driving in circles for 20 min.

We had a lovely evening at Lovage, had been recommended to go and are very glad we did The welcome, atmosphere and interior of the restaurant, all great The food was stunning, in looks and taste, a delicious, complimentary cheese filo tart started us off, all courses were memorable The wine list is a good size and starts off at less than £30,so decent value Was good to see the Maitre'd quietly training the young, efficient and friendly staff during service Have recommended and will return

What a fantastic restaurant! We visited as a treat as we were visiting Bakewell and we’re glad we came. The staff are wonderful and incredibly welcoming. The food was incredible. We had the 7-course tasting menu and each course was unique with such attention to detail. Although it is expensive, it’s reasonable for such a delicious tasting menu which stands up against other restaurants that are twice the price. We can’t wait to come back again soon.

We celebrated our anniversary at Lovage this year. It was a thoroughly enjoyable meal with some lovingly prepared dishes that are both delicious and memorable. The manager is so knowledgable and the staff too, what a great team they have. Thanks for making our special day even more special. We look forward to our next visit.

Couldn’t recommend Lovage highly enough. Clear focus on top quality food and fantastic service. My wife and I had the chateaubriand (and divine triple cooked thick chips!) - it was amazing - perfectly cooked medium rare. To nibble we had freshly baked bread and butter along with mini savoury tarts. Even though we were full we managed space for the salted caramel tart and banana ice cream - so, so good! Food aside service was second to none and the staff showed real pride in making customers happy. Will definitely come back and try the taster menu.

Visited last month for a 10th anniversary meal and everything was fantastic! Jonathon was the perfect host and each dish was explained upon delivery by polite and pleasant staff. The food was fantastic (we went for a sharing Chateaubriand which was cooked perfectly and the tuna starter we had was fabulous!) and the breads brought beforehand (local bitter bread with a marmite butter) were outstanding! Thank you so much guys, amazing night!

This spot was a true gem. The dinner tasting menu was delicious to the last bite. Each course was a happy dance for the taste buds and was a lovely celebration of local produce. The service and ambiance was on point, and an exceptional wine menu. I could not recommend Lovage more.

The Blind Bull is a modern restaurant that offers delicious cuisine and stunning views, with the option to dine in their garden. The establishment is dog-friendly and also provides accommodation just a short walk away. The rooms are beautifully decorated and cozy, perfect for a December stay. The menu at the restaurant constantly changes, ensuring there's always something new to try, and the service is efficient, fast, and friendly. It's highly recommended for those looking for a great dining experience combined with comfortable lodging.
Excellent food. We had the braised beef and lamb. The beef was cooked rare and had just enough char. The lamb was cooked medium and was very tasty. The grilled onions were cooked well and the purées created on interesting mix of tastes. The triple cooked chips were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and tender inside. Service was excellent and the atmosphere charming.

We had dinner here and it’s such a beautiful location with fantastic views across the valley from the garden. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the soda bread with butter and salt was like eating a warm hug. The only downside was the service was on the surly side, like the all the waiting staff had a slightly weird vibe. It could’ve been because we were tourists to the area or just an off night, and certainly not enough to put anyone off a visit.
Isabelle A — Google review
What an absolute Gem. We visited the Blind Bull last night for their steak and quiz night. The food was incredible, you could not fault it. Great selection of beers, wine and spirits. I will definitely be back to try out their, what I assume is far from standard menu based on how good their steak menu is. Thank you for a great evening!

I have to give The Blind Bull an A1 rating. The location, with walks just minutes from the door, the professionalism of the staff, cleanliness of the room & quality of the food. The only negative was, the room we were in was 'Pet Friendly'. I'm not & so have issues about dog paraphernalia in my space. I now know we could have booked an alternative room, but was not aware at the time of booking.

Exceptional experience at The Blind Bull. If you stumbled across this beautiful pub then you've hit the jackpot, if this was a planned visit then you've played a blinder. Awesome lunch here - not one single item missed a beat. Stunning prep and presentation. Great winelist to go with. Very cosy atmosphere and friendly, faultless service. Couldn't recommend any more.

Perfect Sunday lunch. We pre booked a table for us and our three large dogs. We were greeted by a lovely young lady who showed us to our table which was out of the way with our dogs. The champagne was good value and all three courses of our meal were fabulous. I didn't have room for desert but I couldn't resist. The white chocolate dessert with the thyme and raspberry was to die for. The service was attentive and professional. The young lady serving was a credit. Thank you so much.

Superb wholesome and tasty food, you can see why it's popular and important to book. A great feel about the place. Professional staff, swift food/drink service. It definitely stood up to it's reputation and we look forward to visiting again. Maybe next time, we will stay over in one of their rooms, or the cottage. Perfect spot for ramblers.

Potentially the best pub meal I have ever had. The roast was insane. The beef melted in your mouth like butter and the veg was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Staff were so friendly and very accommodating. Could not recommend this place enough.

Located in Hathersage, the David Mellor Visitor Centre is a must-visit destination. It's situated near the burial place of Robin Hood's Little John and offers stunning views that inspired Charlotte Bronte while writing Jane Eyre. The area includes Stanage Edge, a popular spot for rock climbers and hikers. The Riverside Design Museum Cafe provides a unique setting to relax and converse, facing Michael Hopkins's Round Building.
Everything about the David Mellor place is beautiful, from the grounds to the buildings to the cafe. The food was excellent too and reasonably priced considering the excellent quality.

Would have loved to have done the factory tour but it wasn’t on when we went. But there’s still an interesting display and explanations of street furniture outside, and cutlery exhibits in the cafe. Food was incredible - the broccoli and stilton soup was to die for. Quite pricey and the shop was SO expensive - but everything is wrapped so intricately in paper by the staff it was a pleasure to watch. I will say it’s hard to get a seat in the cafe and we ended up sitting with strangers. Would definitely like to go back for the tour and more food!

Have always wanted to visit David Mellor Hathersage. Got there yesterday and did not disappoint - great site, great buildings, wonderful shop and cafe and of course the exhibition and story of this remarkable British designer and his work. Very engaged, informed and welcoming staff and looked after so well by Thomas and by Claire who had pre-organised our nephew’s wedding present and made it all so easy. The way this former town gasworks has been transformed into a design factory and visitor attraction within what is now a mature landscape setting has a zen-like atmosphere of design, making, and ‘being’. I am a committed discipline of Mellor’s belief that good design should be part of the everyday. Just a great day and one to remember.

Derbyshire-made food takes center stage at Riverside Kitchen, with locally sourced ingredients like grass-fed beef from farms in Derbyshire, bread and pastries from Wye Bakehouse, pickles from Crooked Pickle Company in Chesterfield, and chocolates from Yohans Chocolate Shop in Tideswell. The cafe also offers a unique blend of coffee created by Buxton Coffee Roasters.
What a great place, we had a lovely imaginative lunch here. Great setting and service. Great shop as well. I thought the food was good value and it all tasted superb.

We’ve enjoyed several lunches and some afternoon teas, coffees and cake over the last couple of years. Everything has been of a consistently high standard. The food is bursting with flavors, colorful, fresh ingredients, absolutely delicious, and such inventive recipes. I love the tomato dish, and the riverside salad was exceptional. The cake selection varies and the only problem is deciding which one to get as they are all so good. Service is helpful and friendly. A wonderful cafe.

Amazing food , so many interesting dishes to choose from. I will have to come again to try more. My friend and I sampled the Persian chicken and the special salad dish, absolutely bursting with flavour , texture and colour - went away feeling very inspired by such an exciting menu. The cafe setting is stylish and the staff are so friendly and professional. The coffee was the best I have tried in ages and my friend agreed! Thank you

The David Mellor café is a total standout. The food is exceptional, beautifully presented, full of care and thought, and genuinely innovative. The menu feels modern and in tune with its buildings and surroundings, with dishes that are as considered as they are delicious. What really elevates the experience is the team. They're not just attentive and professional, they're warm, caring, and genuinely interested in their customers. It feels like they want you to have a great time, and you do. Gluten free options are treated properly here. Instead of just swapping in GF flour, they’ve created cakes and dishes that are naturally gluten free, clever, high-quality, and never second-best. The shop is equally impressive. It’s super premium, yes, but every item has been chosen with purpose. Beautiful cookbooks, curated kitchenware, and David Mellor’s own cutlery; design-led pieces that are as functional as they are beautiful. If you love great food, thoughtful design, and proper hospitality, this place should be on your list.

Great food. Had the mackerel on rye with pickles and beets, fantastic. The soup special (celeriac, carrots and fennel) hit the spot on a rainy windy day. **Update: Returned a year later, and it’s still great. The menu remains interesting and varied; there’s something for everyone, but it’s also well curated and leans toward healthier options, which I really appreciate. There are some creative touches to both the food and baked goods that make it stand out. Presentation is thoughtful, and everything feels and tasted fresh. The staff were friendly and genuinely engaged, which, combined with the delicious food and beautifully designed space, made it a lovely place to spend time.

A great lunchtime dining experience. The coffee was the best I’ve had in the UK (I live in NZ where the coffee is good!) and the food - the famous salad - was delicious, some of the best food I’ve had in England so far. The service was also excellent. A good range of cakes to follow or have with coffee.

Located in the picturesque Peak District near the Dove Valley, The George is a charming old country inn offering traditional-style simple rooms and a cosy bar. While it used to be a pub, it has now transformed into an ambitious restaurant serving hearty pub grub. Visitors praise the chef's excellent and delicate cooking with clever flavors, making it one of the best dining spots in the area. However, some have noted that portions are on the smaller side.
In fact, I visited this place after being treated with extreme rudeness at a restaurant just a one-minute walk away, and I didn’t feel like eating anything. But I wish I had come here from the start. The man at the bar was especially kind. The waitresses were a bit formal, and I was tense because of my previous experience, but their quick service and attentive presentation of the menu showed me that it was simply because they were busy. I was particularly impressed by the cheese — it was delicious and tasted wonderfully fresh.

Had Sunday roast beef there. The meal tasted good but never have I had so little food for an £18.50 sunday roast. Literally 2 small roast potatoes, small portion of mash, 3 pieces of top roast beef, 1 Yorkshire pudding and very little gravy, plus a few veg on the side. I dont usually post reviews but am a little dissapointed I was expecting a larger meal.

We stayed at The George Pub and Rooms this weekend and had such a lovely time. It’s a charming family-run pub, and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel like part of the family. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, exactly what you want for a weekend away. Our room was cozy, spotless, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We both slept so well! Breakfast was included in our stay and absolutely delicious, with plenty of choice between hot and cold options. The omelette and full English were both fantastic, and the coffee and fresh juice were perfect to start the day. We also couldn’t resist buying some of the homemade preserves and jams made right there at the pub to take home, which was such a lovely touch. On Friday night we joined in the pub quiz at 9pm, which was great fun and a real highlight. Everyone got involved and it had such a friendly, community feel. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Great food, lovely people, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!

On our first night we had our evening meal at the George. Excellent food engaging staff and Generous portions. The only reason we didn't go back was because we always prefer to experience different venues when we are away. As a group of 8, we had different dishes from the menu. Hubby and I had the camanbert to share. Followed by each of the lamb dishes. Was a delight to see a proper lamb chop being served and not those silly lollipops ones that disappear with just one one. Lamb cooked to perfection and was absolutely delicious!!

There was no more space inside, so we were told to sit outside even though it was raining. Luckily, one of the staff members kindly offered us a table for a shorter time before the next reservations arrived, which I really appreciated. However, when I asked for a drink, I was told “we don’t have a menu, just tell me what you fancy,” which felt a bit unprofessional. I think it’s a lovely place with a lot of potential, but it’s a pity to see how the servers’ attitude seems to change depending on the clientele. You can clearly feel a certain difference in how people are treated, which affects the overall experience.

The Heights of Abraham is a hilltop park in the UK, accessible by an Alpine cable car system that offers visitors an exciting aerial ride over the Derwent Valley. Once a lead-mining site, it has been transformed into a visitor center with wooded areas for leisurely strolls and stunning views.
This was an absolute brilliant day out. Started off riding the cable cars up to the top, beautiful scenery to look out. It all felt quite safe! The actual place at the top had plenty of things to see and do! From Wombles to the Caves it was great fun! We had a brilliant explorer for the caves- The Other Steve - he was so full of knowledge and enjoyed sharing it. Kept me interested all the way through and the light show at the end was a great surprise! Great day out and we all enjoyed it!

Had a fantastic day here. The staff were fantastic. The in character staff were amazing and so friendly and knowledgeable. Special shout goes to Mel who showed us round one of the caves. She was fantastic and a real credit to you. So funny and knowledgable. There’s lots to do up there. The cable car ride is great. 2 caves to tour and plenty of fun for the kids on the play grounds. The cafe was brilliant. Had a lovely panini in there and some lovely cake. We came on a weekday outside of the school holidays and didn’t have to wait for anything. Lots of walking to be done and some is rather steep.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience here today. It was our first time visiting and had no idea what to expect, but what a day we had. I’ve come to write a review because I want to give recognition to Lorin, the lovely guy that did our Cavern tour. He was so helpful, approachable, and even took the time out to stay back and show us some fossils in the final cavern, because my autistic son’s special interest is dinosaurs. He was brilliant with both of my children and made the tour really quite special. Give this man a raise immediately HoA! 🥲🤣

Great couple of hours at least spent with great views . The Cave experience is informative and interesting. The cafe is very good with great selection at reasonable prices. parking is in the station carpark payable . Blue badge holders can pay for time and get an hour ontop free. It is a short walk to the cable car ticket office. Just be aware that the last 150yard to Ticket office is steep.

Heights of Abraham is a fantastic family destination—perfect for both toddlers and older kids, with plenty of land to explore, play areas, and exhibits to keep everyone entertained. We especially enjoyed the Wombles exhibition—it was fun and whimsical, and offered something a bit different. The views from the hilltop are absolutely lovely, trampling over the Derwent Valley and surrounding countryside, making the cable car ride all the more magical. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about—not quite matching the beauty of the surroundings. I was also disappointed that they didn’t have a chai latte on the drinks menu, and vegan soft serve ice cream wasn’t available—both would have been great choices to round off a lovely day. Admission is on the steep side: adult tickets cost about £25 online or £28.50 at the gate . It felt quite expensive, especially for a shorter visit, but with a longer stay it might be more justifiable. Overall, it’s a beautiful and memorable place with a lot to offer families. With improvements to the food and drink options, it would be near-perfect!

Wonderful day out, perfect for dogs also, they are allowed everywhere but caverns and the Vista restaurant. Food a little pricey but picnic tables are everywhere for a packed lunch. The cable car stops half way up for stunning view pictures.

Anoki Restaurant Derby offers a vibrant and stylish dining experience with a modern take on classic Indian cuisine. Located in an old picture house on London Road, the restaurant features elegant decor, including ornate furnishings beneath a gilded vaulted ceiling and opulent interiors adorned with dramatic artwork and extravagant chandeliers. The waiters dressed in traditional Indian attire add to the overall ambiance.
Drove past this restaurant a few times, of which it caught my eye because of the exterior design and the ambience of the inside. I’ve always been a fan of Indian food and this just heightened how much I enjoy it. Decided to go this afternoon and to be honest I felt a bit underdressed, it was really well set up and the atmosphere was great although there wasn’t many people there (because of the time of day we went), the service was great and to top it all off the food was nothing short of amazing 🤤 will be going back there soon for sure.

10/10 for food and service! The chilli fish was the highlight for me, definitely found my new favourite Indian! Photo does not do it justice!

A warm welcome and fantastic service by Yas. Lovely surroundings, plenty of tables and a nice menu. Food arrived quickly, was a good size portion and tasted amazing. The flavours were exceptional and there was plenty of food size chicken that was very tender. The Indian dessert was great too, with warm and cold combinations working very well. There's street parking nearby too, so made all for a great experience. Highly recommend, 10/10. I'll certainly visit again.

It was stunning from the start. As soon as we stepped foot in this beautiful restaurant, we were greeted with a beautiful welcoming feel. The food was stunning and we licked the plates clean. Also at the end surprisingly we were given free dessert! The whole experience was special and we would definitely come back.

I highly recommend this Indian restaurant !!!!!!! The food is delicious and the atmosphere is authentic. The decor and music truly transport you to this lovely country ❣️ The service is excellent and very helpful. The boss even let us in early, me and my husband were rushing to catch a train because we were only there for a visit, and the boss let us in early, which we really appreciated because we were very hungry and with a small child. Thank you very much, and we will definitely be back. Thank you again and best regards ❤️❤️❤️

The inn boasts a quaint beer garden next to the river, perfect for enjoying summertime dining while listening to the soothing sounds of flowing water. Inside, guests can relax by the roaring fireplace or enjoy events throughout the year.
We have visited this wonderful pub several times lately. You can always rely on a friendly welcome by the excellent, hard-working staff here. The surroundings add to the experience. We have tried most things on the menu and have always been impressed by the quality on offer. It is very popular so I would suggest booking prior to your visit. The bar is well stocked with a selection of real ales. A special mention for the Bakewell pudding which is to die for!

Our party of five arrived on Sunday at 2:30 PM with short notice, and the staff demonstrated excellent hospitality. We were promptly seated after ordering beverages. The culinary experience was exceptional; the fish and chips I selected were of remarkable quality and value. The rating is a four-star due to the limited parking availability.
David S — Google review
It was almost awesome…….almost. The service was slow. Two of us dined in the bar sat next to another table of two. Their starters came, we had no drinks. Their mains came, we drinks but no starters. Their plates were cleared, our soup finally arrived, nearly 45 minutes after ordering. Butter bean Tuscan soup. Despite there only being 5 butter beans between two bowls of soup, it was delicious! It got better from here! The beef roast was fantastic, perfectly pink, sizeable yorkies and cauliflower cheese that was bang on! A really decent roast for the price. No check back though, and a missed opportunity for further drink sales. So, if you have time on your hands, I highly recommend the food. It really was top drawer. However, the chaotic service let it down a star I’m afraid.

Called in with a friend for a few drinks, a chat and a meal. Really impressed. The team there - Mark and Sylvia are great, friendly and very welcoming. We both had the short rib beef randang for our meals. Absolutely excellent. Charlie, the chef excelled and it was delicious. Thoroughly recommended, both the food, the pub and Silvia, Mark and Charlie. Many Thanks. I will back there again.

The Lavender Tea Rooms in Bakewell, located in a charming courtyard setting, is a popular spot for indulging in delightful afternoon teas. The upstairs dining area offers a bustling courtyard view where guests can savor Traditional, Deluxe, Vegetarian and Vegan afternoon teas served on traditional tiered stands. The tea room also offers homemade cakes and more substantial meal options like Welsh rarebit, fishcakes, and omelettes.
The young man who served us was brilliant. We needed GF food. He explained everything, said it was prepped in a different area etc. The pot of tea I had was plenty ful (3 cups), the GF scones with jam and cream were fresh out of the oven, warm and delicious. A brilliant little hidden gem. We will definitely be returning.

I had an absolutely delightful visit to Lavender Tea Rooms in Bakewell. The cozy, charming atmosphere made it the perfect place to relax and enjoy some quality time. The staff were warm, friendly, and attentive, making us feel right at home. The tea selection was fantastic, and I particularly loved their lavender-infused tea—so calming and flavorful. The homemade scones and cakes were simply delicious, and beautifully presented. Everything tasted fresh and made with care. If you're in Bakewell and craving a lovely spot for tea and treats, I highly recommend Lavender Tea Rooms. It’s a true gem, and I can't wait to return!

This has to be the best place I've been to for afternoon tea. The sandwiches were delicious, and we had 8 fingers sandwiches each. which is double what you get anywhere else. All of them were on bloomer bread and cut like door steps with plenty of filling. Then there were the 4 cakes each, and they were all really nice. Last but certainly not least there was the scones, huge, light and fluffy. I would highly recommend and will definitely be going back. Oh and we had a doggy bag as we couldn't eat it all. They provided us with a box to take home.

A hidden gem. This stylish little cafe/tearoom is excellent, located in Hebden court, off Matlock st in the lovely town of Bakewell. Great quality coffee & food, my wife & I had a tuna/mayo sandwich, served with dressed salad leaves & crisps, absolutely lovely fresh food. Friendly staff & great service. I thoroughly recommend a visit to this excellent tearoom.

My experience was discussing, The food and service was fine. I had had my bag under by my feet. When we finished we left. Wasn’t till we got on the bus realised my bag had been chewed, it must have been a mouse or a rat. The thought of it sends shivers down my spine to think when we have been eating something was chewing my hand bag.

Ithaca Greek Taverna is a traditionally furnished restaurant that offers a truly authentic Greek dining experience. The decor creates a friendly atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional Greek taverna. The menu features classic Greek and Mediterranean dishes, with an emphasis on flavors from the Ionian Islands. From cocktails like ouzo to appetizers such as creamy mushrooms and grilled sardines, the restaurant offers an array of superb choices. Guests can enjoy generous portions of delicious food, including options for vegetarians.
Had dinner here this evening whilst enjoying a long weekend in the Peaks. We couldn’t have enjoyed it more. The food was absolutely delicious. The portions generous and everything was tasty. We had sardines and feta and spinach parcels to start, followed by Kleftico and Sea Bass. For dessert we had baklava and orange cake and it was impossible to pick favourites. The service was friendly, attentive and efficient. The restaurant was packed but the service and standard remained excellent throughout. Would definitely return and recommend.

We had really good meal at Ithaca on Saturday evening. The owner was very accommodating with the booking which was last minute. The food was good and all items hot (apart from salad), we ordered the sea bass (which partner thought was exceptional) and cod and shared a Greek salad. Portion sizes were good. The service was very good and attentive apart from initial wait for menus.

Very nice fresh food , good service, not a lot of food but was filling two main meals and a side £45 ish no drinks
Dave S — Google review
Fantastic food and service, easily the best souvlaki i've had in England, and the cod was wonderful. Will definitely come back!
Luk P — Google review
The team there are the best thing about the restaurant, but the food is bland and overpriced. I had the cod which was literally tasted of pure garlic and nothing else, my wife had the steak which tasted of pure garlic, with her 7 chips, very very disappointed, won't go here ever again. The photos online make this restaurant look high end, unfortunately it's not like this at all, not even average.
Jason S — Google review
Overall, very good. The wine was beautiful, was a Greek red. The Greek salad used very tasty tomatoes (hate when they are under-ripe), good qaulity olives and feta. The Yiouvetsi main was very good, pasta falvouful, lamb was generous portion and tender. Some of it towards top was tad dry but mostly not. Andreas and other staff were all warm and attentive.
Peter P — Google review
Really tasty food from start to finish - fish & chicken souvlaki for mains & fig & walnut cake & orange cake for desserts. Great coffee as well. Warm welcome & nice atmosphere. Highly recommended

Absolutely top notch dining experience at Ithaca. Highly recommend you book a table as other potential diners that hadn't booked were turned away. Anyhow , warm welcome on arrival , delicious food and good service , what else do you need ? There is an extensive menu and it was difficult to pick as there were so many nice dishes so as a compromise we chose one main dish and then added 4 starter dishes and a portion of fries. All cooked to perfection and packed full of flavour. Full plates to empty plates tells you all you need to know. Overall , a super dining experience and can't wait to visit again No hesitation in recommending, enjoy !!

Stopped for a midweek evening meal. It's just changed hands so they weren't fully up to speed, e.g. limited food and drink (hence only 3 stars overall). However they did cook up a fantastic butter chicken tailored just to the right level of spice for me. Interesting to see how the place develops.

This is a lovely little restaurant and worth your visit when in Castleton. It serves some amazingly tasty and fresh food, which has homemade written all over it. Ordered a takeaway sausage, mushroom and has brown breakfast sandwich. No one expects it to out in anything other than a teacake, bap, barn, or roll (depending on where in the uk you’re from). Least do they expect it to come out in flat bread slices cut into a triangle. Has whoever thought this was a great takeaway idea ever tried to eat this sandwich that two thin and awkwardly cut slices of bread whilst walkig or sitting on a park bench. Trust me when I say - it does not work. Don’t mess with a classic. £8 for a sausage, mushroom and has brown sandwich that falls to bits as soon as you start eating it. Common sense has clearly not prevailed on this one. Plus - bread is not not as satisfying as a bap / roll.

Grahame H — Google review
Unfortunately it seems many decent Bakewell based restaurants close after lunch and do not open until 6:30/7pm. My wife and I needed to be at a show for 7:30pm so we searched for somewhere that could do a 5pm sitting and we settled on here (booked well in advance) as us Brummies love a curry. Unfortunately, us Brummies also really know our curries and whereas this wasn't bad, it didn't quite hit the mark. The food was very much 'ok', the Garlic Chilli Chicken had no hit to it at all, yet my wife's vegetable Balti was unexpectedly spicy for her. When she requested some yoghurt she got a look like she had personally insulted the waiter. On that point the service was mixed. The gentleman who greeted us was most put out (as we entered the empty restaurant as it only opened 30 minutes prior) that our advance booking of 2 people had now changed to 'maybe 3', and that the third person would only be popping in for a quick drink with us as we ate our meals as he was performing at the Town Hall (the show we were were attending). As we ate several members of staff / owners looked on from an awkward distance, which wasn't great. We did not finish much of our food and whilst waiting for the bill, we continued to chat between us while we finished our drinks. A gentlemen (perhaps the owner) then came over and asked us to move off the table (before we had paid) as it was needed for others (the place was half empty at this point) and we were instructed to sit with those picking up takeaways. It was all just a bit insensitive and blunt and we shall not return. Not terrible, but just a bit meh.
John-Paul W — Google review
Complete letdown. After waiting a long time for a table and then again for our food, the dishes finally arrived, but it was incredibly greasy and the meat was of very poor quality. I had a bad stomach for a full 24 hours afterwards. To top it all off, an automatic service charge was added to the bill despite the terrible. I definitely cannot recommend this place.
Rick G — Google review
Meh! It was ok, not the best and not the worst but definitely the most oil I've ever seen sitting on top of a curry. The Bombay Aloo was very tasty and the rice was really nice, but the curries were pretty average and greasy.

Nestled in a charming 16th-century building, 1530 The Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience that feels like home. This trattoria specializes in an array of mouthwatering dishes, including pizza, pasta, and steaks that are sure to satisfy any craving. The cozy atmosphere invites you to unwind while enjoying generous portions of delicious food. Whether you're indulging in their spicy chicken pizza or sampling the flavorful lamb mince variety, each bite is crafted with care.
I had the spicy chicken pizza, garlic fries, herb potatoes, tried a slice of my friends lamb mince pizza and had a scoop of honeycomb ice cream. It was a strange decision to include pineapple on the pizza. I forgot to ask them to remove it so I had to pick it off. I did try it and it doesn't work in my opinion. Other than that the pizza was a good size and super hot and cheese. I didn't really detect the nduja and pork belly so maybe a touch sparse with the toppings. The lamb mince one was quite flavourful. The portion of fries was great and they were crisp and tasty. The potato portion was small and not really worth it. The ice cream was nice and gooey and I like the taste of the honey. No substantial chunks of honeycomb or anything but that's ok. The menu is a bit different to what I saw online. Overall we both paid around £22 each, so not a bad price. Best to reserve ahead.

Love, love, love this place. To be honest it's not our first time here and each time we come it's amazing. The service, the food, the atmosphere, perfection. There's lots to choose from for vegetarians and vegans. I ordered veggie pasta today with burrata and it was yummy. My husband had a steak and he said it was delicious. But the star of the evening was the chocolate tart. It was to die for... apple crumbed was OK but the tart was the winner. I would highly recommend this place. And it's in a beautiful Castleton just around the corner from the amazing Mam Tor.

Absolutely fantastic, well worth a visit if you are in Castleton! Road tripping round Derbyshire we decided to take a change booking here as a break from pub food etc. The food here is delicious, from the olives to start right through to dessert. We are visiting for the bank holiday locally in Bonsall and wanted to try something different. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. We were moved by wanting to support the couple that run this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The team warmly welcomed us and we were delighted to sample their warm fresh baked focaccia bread on arrival. A truly special touch. I ordered the sea bream, and my partner ordered the duck with orange sauce. For dessert we enjoyed the Creme Brûlée and passionfruit dessert and the chocolate butter pudding. The food was exceptional. The care and detail put into the experience and food and presentation was thoughtful and carefully curated. The depth of flavour of the sauces was a real treat. Highly recommend this restaurant — a full 10 out of 10. The staff were very friendly and had warm, welcoming smiles. Really good experience after booking for Friday night meal for two. We found this restaurant through various review sites. Friendly welcome, efficient service, nice range on the (French inspired?) Menu. Wine by carafe offered too which hits the spot between two glasses and a bottle. Calming classy decor. Really lovely cooking. Had three delightful courses. We pushed the boat out so cost about £65 per head with pre drink and tip. We thought good value and would happily return/recommend.

Good food, came for a birthday treat. Quite formal, my only quibble is the seating for 2 were very close, so felt like you were looking closely at someone's dinner. All friendly though, so not too awkward.

Best restaurant I've been to in the area. The food is always great, the portion sizes are quite generous, the quality and taste are great. There could be more vegetarian options, one of our party is vegetarian, other than that small complaint everything was spot on.

We did a walk-in yesterday which they were able to accommodate after an hour. Dinner was excellent. They gave us a tasty focaccia bread while we waited for the boullabaise and pork. The soup was excellent and light with big chunks of fish. We split up a crepe Suzette for dessert which was lit at the table, it was delicious, the flavour of orange was crisp yet balanced. Had a great dinner here. Would definitely recommend if you're in Bakewell.

Fischer's Baslow Hall is a luxurious Edwardian hotel located in the heart of the Peak District National Park. This Grade II-listed manor house offers elegant rooms with ornate ceilings and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The hotel features an award-winning restaurant serving imaginative, modern British cuisine using locally sourced ingredients, including vegetables from its own kitchen garden.
We had an unforgettable dining experience at Fischer’s Baslow Hall to celebrate a birthday, and everything—from the service to the food—was exceptional. The team went above and beyond to make the occasion special, with the waitstaff offering warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful service that added a personal touch to the celebration. The food was absolutely incredible—each course beautifully presented and bursting with flavor, clearly crafted with skill and care. Every dish told its own story, and the attention to seasonal ingredients and balance made the meal feel both luxurious and grounded in nature. The setting itself, elegant and tranquil, complemented the whole experience perfectly. It’s clear why Fischer’s holds its Michelin Plate status—it’s a place where fine dining meets heartfelt hospitality. We’ll absolutely be returning and recommending it to anyone looking for a truly memorable culinary experience.

I booked a solo dining experience on the kitchen bench at the end of August. This was my first foray into fine dining and I was not disappointed. From the moment I was greeted at the door, I was made to feel incredibly welcome. The taster menu and whole kitchen bench experience was just wonderful. It was more relaxed than I was expecting which suited me perfectly! The food was exceptional - I was presented with a wide range of dishes which gave me the opportunity to try things that I hadn't before and I enjoyed every moment. Whilst the food itself was wonderful, it was the restaurant and kitchen staff that really took my visit to another level. Everyone was very warm and friendly, not to mention attentive. I was looked after incredibly well, especially by John's team in the kitchen. Thank you for such a fantastic experience and I definitely plan to return.

Highly recommend this hotel, very nice! Warm welcome was received. The garden is beautiful and you can walk around to enjoy the nature’s beauty. I have to mention the breakfast was amazing! Especially the berry smoothie, bread and jam! The hotel can even help book restaurant nearby and cover the travel expenses. The service is indeed very good.

We ate in the restaurant, enjoying the 6 course menu. The restaurant is setup such that even when full each table still feels private. Service was unobtrusive but warm and professional. Food was excellent- fresh ingredients, good use of taste, colour and texture. A great meal, if slightly on the expensive side.

We were at this restaurant a month ago. The place is very nice and welcoming, and the waiters are friendly. However, the food definitely leaves a lot to be desired for the price. Not to mention that they charge us £6 per bottle for tap water, even though they would take it away and put in a new one if it wasn't finished. I'm sorry, but I don't think we'll be back.

I booked lunch at Fischer’s to celebrate my surprise proposal to my partner which I decided to do just before lunch nearby at Bamford Edge. Fischer’s were incredibly helpful and made the day extra special with little added touches. When we arrived, they were waiting for us with two glasses of champagne, then when we got to the table, the waiter gave us a Baslow Hall postcard which had been signed by the staff to commemorate the day. The food and the service were both exceptional and we had a superb lunch to celebrate our engagement which was perfect. Finally, they gave us a complimentary slice of carrot cake to finish the meal off - this was also very tasty! Thank you to all of the team at Fischer’s who went above and beyond to make this special day even more memorable. We will be back! Would highly recommend!

Wow what a wonderful hotel!! We had a 2nts stay at Fischer's. Everything about our stay was 5* from our arrival welcome to our departure. Our room Number 4 Garden Room was absolutely amazing so spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was superb. Our dinner in the restaurant absolutely faultless. What makes this hotel stand out are all the staff. They are so friendly, helpful and totally professional. Thank you Fischer's for providing us with an amazing stay. We cannot wait to return!!

I have dined here few times and I have come to conclusion unfortunately it is not worth the price so I won’t be returning. The options are very limited if one is vegetarian, the fish main is always monkfish or cod and a little chewy, not succulent, the risotto I had recently was one of the worst I have had anywhere. The head service man is lovely but he does say everything on menu is fantastic or amazing., I understand he is obliged to say this but doesn’t sound very genuine when the dishes do not reflect. On recent visit the option of 2 starters was not appealing so I asked if I could have from taster and although she warned it would be tiny, it was more like a canapé, they could have doubled the portion for starter because I did not realise how small it would be. After spending nearly 200 pounds on just the food ( excluding drinks ), both came away disappointed and still hungry. It seems the good quality ingredients or from garden you use bare minimal so almost seems pointless mentioning in menu just to attract people. Also the menu in website had not been updated and yes it is a sample but I would not have come had I known garden potato was not available as I previously did not like your rice with cod so was reluctant but was no other choice. Ultimately other places may not have the lovely setting as fischers but that’s mainly what you are paying for, the food is better and cheaper in other restaurants.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn is a charming half-timbered coaching inn offering modern en suite rooms, complimentary breakfast, and WiFi. The inn boasts a rich history, with displays of archaeology and geology as well as a carved head believed to be the symbol of a local Iron Age god. Situated in Castleton, this traditional country pub provides a cozy spot to unwind after exploring the village's attractions.
Went for lunch here today and the food and staff were wonderful. Food was amazing and not expensive, especially the steak and ale pie and hot roast pork roll!!!!! Staff were so lovely and friendly, well worth the visit! We all had a great time!

This pub knows how to serve excellent food! The menu is full of classic pub dishes but from our experience, it all appears freshly coked, very homely. The steak and ale pie - amazing. The chips blew me away. They were so brown - burnt in appearance. But they were cooked to perfection, no idea what gave them that colour but they weren’t overcooked at all! Delicious. The ploughman’s board - high quality. Coleslaw was definitely freshly made. It was a perfect lunch after our 3-hour hike.

We have just visited the restaurant and pub . The atmosphere was lovely. We were greeted and looked after very well. We had a Greek platter and it was really good. I was so pleased that the salad was a true salad with feta, tomatoes, olives and salad leaves. Much better than the usual in other places, a plate of leaves with dome tomatoes. We will definitely visit again

We were travelling around the Peak District and came across this gem! The atmosphere was lovely, walking in to a fire blazing in mid October. The staff were delightful and accommodating having been a walk in and them being very busy, they found a table for us. I had the lambs liver and bacon with mashed potato. The liver and bacon was delicious with a very generous portion of meat and I would happily come back again!

The book in the Airbnb we were staying at recommended this place. On checking their website you are required to pay a £5 per head cancellation fee on booking which is unusual but the impression that it was popular. We booked for a Sunday roast. On arrival we were 20 minutes early and we were asked to wait in the bar area for a while. I was surprised when we were shown through to the dining room that only three of the tables were occupied. We both ordered the roast and 5 minutes later we were told there would be a 20 minute delay on the order. 45 minutes later, the young lad who was serving told us that the order had been lost and the chef was just starting our food! At this point, only two tables were occupied. The food arrived 10 minutes later. I don’t know what the delay was for but it wasn’t for food to be cooked. The roast was lukewarm, the roast potatoes mushy and all of it had obviously been sat under a heat lamp or some sort of warmer for some time. I’ve had better at a Toby Carvery. A pub that deals with tourists most of the time but doesn’t rely on repeat business. Avoid. The other pubs in the high street all looked better.

Had a fantastic 24hrs stay in the Cheshire Cheese. Location was good, beer and food was great and the breakfast in the morning was fantastic and piping hot. The staff were excellent too, nothing was too much for them. If your staying in Castleton then I'd highly recommend the Cheshire Cheese 👍

Good Morning, My husband & I visited your pub for lunch yesterday. Even though I informed your staff that I was dairy intolerant she did not pass it onto the kitchen. This could of been fatal, dairy intolerance isn't a life choice it is & can be fatal. If I hadn't had access to antihistamines you & your staff could of been responsible for my death. When I queried with the staff member she told me she hadn't informed the kitchen as I'd requested no spread & didn't think it necessary to tell the kitchen I'm dairy intolerant. You need to ensure you & your staff are better trained & informed. People die from mistakes like this. Sadly, even though your food was delicious & staff were initially welcoming, we won't be visiting again. We weren't offered a refund for the food I couldn't eat either. Teresa Collins (Posting on behalf of my mother who is in fact very ill).

The White Lion is a popular stone bar-restaurant serving traditional British pub grub and Sunday lunch. It has a relaxed atmosphere and offers eight quality cask ales brewed on-site by the Old Sawley Brewing Company. There is also a comprehensive wine list and wood-fired pizza at weekends.
The best pub in all the Peak District Honestly, the food is so good, and the portions massive. Really recommend it It took a minute for the dinner to come, but boy it was worth it, they were taking good care of the food. We had chicken cordon bleu and a plate of a homemade pork sausage with haggies that I don’t remember the name of. Both were amazing. The chicken comes with a yummy mushroom sauce with perfectly cooked vegetables, not overdone or too raw. The inside of the chicken was a delight The homemade sausage was just something special and the gravy is one of the best we had in a long time Both dishes came with a portion of mashed potatoes mixed with mustard seeds that was so special (and so much of it) The atmosphere is really friendly, as the staff. They also have an interesting variety of beers, not the typical ones but interesting and nice alternatives The only bad part is that we finished so full that could not try a dessert

After looking for somewhere different to meet for lunch myself and friends visited this lovely pub. A warm welcome and good service was provided. I ordered Fish and chips with a salad which they happily accommodated. The batter was thin and crispy the fish white and thick. Lovely chunky chips and fresh salad with a tasty dressing. It was the best fish I've had in a long time, good quality and cooked perfectly. I had a decaffeinated cappuccino after which was lovely hot and creamy. The accessible toilet was large and clean with a higher seat if you need it. Accessibility wise the front steps have no ramp so I'm not sure if they have a different entrance with more level access. The car park is up a hill behind the pub with some parking out front which can be very busy. I was not in my chair for this visit. For me it was slightly difficult to access but once inside easy to get around and Very much worth the effort. 5 stars for the food and service.

Great local pub with friendly staff. We were a party of five who enjoyed every bite of our lunch which was excellent value. I had the beef shin & red wine pie which was a good choice, the beef melted in the mouth and was simply delicious. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for dessert which was a shame as they looked good!

The Castle Inn is a charming 16th-century inn located in Bakewell, a picturesque stone-built market town nestled between the River Wye and the main A6 routeway. The inn offers four smart and simple rooms, along with a cozy bar serving pub-style food. The historical charm of the inn is complemented by modern comfort, creating a quintessential English experience. Guests can enjoy traditional British classics in the restaurant and bar, including hearty roasts and lighter bites.
We had the 'Hassop' double room which was nice and big with a very large bed. The room was on the first floor overlooking the beer garden which was fine. Little to no noise from it at bed time. Didn't eat here but did have drinks in the bar on a couple of nights. The staff were efficient and friendly. Free parking is a bonus.

Firstly, I cannot fault the location of this pub / hotel. My friend and I were taking part in the Peak District Ultra Challenge and it was super central for the start and finish line in Bakewell. However, that is the only positive I have. I arrived to check in for a two night stay and was greeted as if I was an inconvenience, especially by whom I assume to be the landlady. I don't think I've ever met anyone as unpleasant and rude as her, shouting over the top of me at her staff members and sighing and tutting when checking me in. We had booked to have dinner there but I immediately decided against it and we had dinner at another pub nearby and it was delicious. I'm especially pleased that we made that decision, as breakfast on Sunday morning was absolutely disgusting. It was totally inedible in fact. Everything on my breakfast looked like it had just been shown the oven, rather than going inside it. When I complained to the member of staff about it he informed me that they were short staffed and that the person cooking the breakfasts was not a chef?!!! I was really upset as I was looking forward to my breakfast after completing a very long walk the day before and we then had to go elsewhere and pay out more money for something we could eat that wasn't going to make us sick. The room was fine, basic and outdated, but clean enough. It was incredibly hot and there was no air con, but we were given a fan that helped a bit.

Group of ten of us for a late lunch on a Sunday. Some menu options had run out, which is understandable - the place was very busy. Overall the food was very good and the staff were absolutely lovely. The Castle has a great 'local pub' feel, even though it is part of a large group. I did have a payment issue, caused by me, and I found both the Castle Inn staff and the corporate customer service people very helpful and effective at resolving things. Great service from friendly and caring people.

We picked this place for our fish n chips Friday outing. Glad we did . A lovely old building in a great location near the river Derwent. Apart from the chips being a bit crispy the food was absolutely delicious, and at the right price. The main reason we visited this place was because there’s a few reviews saying the landlady was less than welcoming and rude. Not the case. All the staff were friendly, helpful, courteous and polite.dratt !!😎 Well worth a visit!
Richard F — Google review
Visited here today for the first time today and will not be returning anytime soon. From the moment we walked into the pub, I felt a bizarre atmosphere and it got much worse once we met the landlady. I went to the pub on a Friday lunch time, it was moderately busy but not too bad. I parked at the car park and noticed the signs said to register your registration number at the bar so that’s the first thing I did. I was met by a very hostile landlady who told me to order my food first so that she knows I’m actually spending money in the pub and not just using the parking. I thought this was fair enough although a little passive aggressive, I went back to the table and ordered our food and drinks. I then went back up to the bar to collect the drinks I ordered and give my registration number for the car again. Whilst I was at the bar I observed the landlady interact with multiple paying customers and she was generally so hostile to everyone single customer and her staff. She was then arguing quite loudly with a staff member about putting discounts through the till incorrectly. The staff members themselves were friendly and welcoming however it appeared they were under some stress from the landlady and this was quite clear whilst observing. The food was actually quite good and served piping hot, something I have come to expect when visiting a Greene King pub. The actual physical building is also nice and in an excellent location. It’s a shame that Greene King allow this toxic landlady to run this establishment into the ground as I doubt that it gets much repeat customers and the amount of poor reviews speak for themselves! Overall I would not recommend this pub and would choose one of the others in the area as there is plenty of nicer places to choose from whilst visiting the beautiful Peak District.

We went here today for lunch there was a total of 4 people in for lunch. The other couple ordered before we had gone in, the very unpleasant, unprofessional waitress brought us there meals, which one was different to ours. We said they wasn’t ours and the couple on the next table said they was theirs. When our meals arrived, my meal was Hunters chicken off the main menu, when it arrived there was a piece of chicken in a dish, two onion rings and a tiny bit of rocket. No chips !! My hubby had to go and find the waitress, after we had checked the menu to make sure it came with chips. She took it back to the kitchen. How on earth can you make that mistake !! Shows how much the waitress took note of the meals. She never once asked us if we had enjoyed our meals. The meals was certainly not the best we have had, chips was over cooked so was my hubbys fish. Never again will we eat here. God knows what would happen if they had more people in, cannot cope with four. Very bad experience for us, went to Bakewell to celebrate our anniversary. Thought The Castle looked a decent place, how wrong were we.

We've just had the pleasure of staying for two nights in the comfortable Coach House Annex, adjoined to the tea room. Janice dealt with all the accommodation booking and organisation very efficiently. She responded quickly to emails, and all communication between us prior to our stay was timely and very clear. The accommodation itself was perfect for us. It doesn't include breakfast, which we prefer, but it has a very useful mini-fridge, so we brought cereal and fruit with us and had breakfast in our room or outdoors on our little private patio. It was very forward thinking of Janice to include breakfast bowls, plates, cutlery and even wine glasses in the room. Other guests may prefer to go to the tea room for breakfast. We didn't try this out but the breakfasts certainly looked good. The room was bright and clean, the mattress was comfortable, the bathroom had a good shower in it, and there was plenty of storage space in the wardrobe, drawers and on the window ledges. It was very quiet, as it faced onto someone's garden. And how wonderful to be staying in a place attached to a tea room! Lesley runs the tea room and she welcomed us when we arrived, kindly offering us a cuppa and fresh milk for the mini-fridge. We couldn't resist trying the delicious homemade cakes. Dan and Colette, who work with Lesley in the tea room, were really friendly, welcoming and efficient. Lesley made us a sandwich each day to take on our walks. Lesley really did go out of her way to be informative and helpful. Eyam Tea Room and Accommodation is located right in the very centre of this interesting, historic village. It was the perfect base for us for our stay and I have no doubts in recommending the accommodation, the tea room, and the owners' and staff's wonderful hospitality.

It a lovely cafe in the nice tranquil village of Eyam (The Plague Village). When we visited it was overrun by cyclists that had left their bikes scattered everywhere and made it difficult to navigate in a wheelchair. The doorway has a small step too. The food was fine but the fact it's call a "Tea Room" was very frustrating. They don't actually serve any loose leaf tea! It offers Yorkshire Tea or Teapigs (specialty teas) and while that would be great for most people, I visited the "Tea Room" in a traditional old English village for an authentic pot of loose leaf Darjeeling Tea, but ended up with a brew that I could have just bought from any old cafe. If we are being honest it is a good quality cafe, but it just isn't an authentic tea room.

Did not stay so can't say about rooms. We had a chocolate milkshake which was ok strange as it had ice blocks in it and a tea. The Homity pie (we took ours home) which was amazing. The staff are friendly if you go in and chat.

We had afternoon tea here years ago and it was amazing. We visited on a Tues in the hope of another great lunch but sadly it’s shut Mondays and Tuesdays so we’ll have try again another time. [Edit] We finally made it back to Eyam and this time we picked a day when the cafe would be open. It was worth the wait! Fantastic afternoon tea served by lovely ladies in glorious autumn sunshine. At £16 per person it’s great value too. We couldn’t finish it and got to take some cake home with us. Thoroughly recommended. We’ve come back again today and had a lovely ploughman’s, Chilli and rice, cream scone and lemon meringue pie. It’s still great food with lovely staff.

Great Indian restaurant, all the more so for it being quite unexpected given the location! Food was all excellent and served very quickly by the friendly staff. Of course there's plenty of vegetarian options - at £6.95 for side portions and £12.50 for mains this initially seemed a bit pricey, but is definitely offset by it being BYO (there's a shop next door too). Our table of six had a great meal and we'd definitely recommend it.

The most amazing stay here. The location is beautiful, the staff are so friendly and could not do more to help. The rooms are beautiful and modern and such good value. The best shower I have had at any hotel/ pub. The breakfast that was included in the price was just amazing. Dog friendly pub with free parking and on the doorstep of so many amazing Peak District walks

Our family (2 adults & young children) stayed at the Ladybower Inn for 5 nights. We booked the family room and it was great. As described in another review, the bathroom looks like it's been recently refurbished (shower's window seal needs to be redone though), the room in itself is quite old fashion but does its job. The pub was great with a very welcoming staff. We are there for all our breakfast and some dinners and the food was great (for real!! 🤣). The new owner (took over in November 2024) is very nice and attentive to his clientele. He checked in regularly to make sure everything was fine for us and we were satisfied with our meal. The location is great if you like to hike/walk. There are also nice activities to do with little ones in the area (e.g. farm visits). Manchester is about 1h drive (shopping centre, Lego discovery centre, sea life and visit of the city). I would definitely recommend this accomodation & pub! Thank you again for having us!

Really nice food and the service was very attentive and polite. It was a bit cold in there on a Saturday night, could do with turning the heating on! It doesn’t feel like the ladybower inn used to though. Came here for its cosy, countryside pub vibe and really didn’t like the new black bar with fluorescent blue lights under it. It’s a bit of a mish mash of interior now, and doesn’t feel cosy like it used to. Suspect they’re trying something different as everywhere is struggling but wasn’t for me. Food was lovely though!

Stopped for refreshments part way through a long all-day hike. So many thoughtful details: boot covers at the door, bike repair station, filtered/chilled water for filling bottles out the back by the bike repair area. Friendly and efficient staff. Lovely warm atmosphere. We had drinks from the bar and tea and cake and it was all very reasonably priced. The tea came with a huge cup, tea pot, hot water and plenty of milk. You could get settled in for a good while! Didn’t have food other than an amazing raspberry and white chocolate flapjack which was locally made and gave us enough energy to get back to Hathersage. Toilets very clean and well stocked.

We had a brilliant stay at this inn near Ladybower Reservoir. The location is ideal for hiking, running, and cycling, right in the heart of the Peak District. The staff were outstanding: friendly, welcoming, and genuinely engaged with guests. Our room was clean and cosy, just what you need after a day outdoors. The pub downstairs had a great atmosphere, with a wide choice of English beers and homemade food. They are truly dog-friendly, not just dog-tolerant!

Excellent service and food. Booked a table for 14 for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Staff had put up 'Happy Anniversary' banners and left us a card. Food and service were excellent throughout. Our chocolate anniversary cake, made to order for us, was delicious.

Went for an early dinner. Veggie chilli was tasty but rice was microwaved and chewy. Hot dog was nice but no upgrade allowed on the chips which was a shame and barrier to more flavour in the meal - not flexible and doesn't make sense to order an extra portion when there are only 2 of us dining. Good service, easy parking and nice drinks.

The staff here are absolutely amazing, they thoroughly care about all of the small details. We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. They are so brilliant with dogs they truly love them, they don't just put up with them. The food is brilliant and the portions are great, I couldn't even manage the amazing looking desserts in the fridge. They have a dog menu which is reasonably priced and the breakfasts were such good value and perfect in the morning after a great night's sleep. Truly a gem hidden in the peaks! Can't wait to revisit it will certainly become a regular destination.

Called in after a walk with the wife. Excellent service. Food was also good, had the chilli chicken sandwich we I have had before and recommend. The cakes are also very good, original and homemade.

Perfect little spot for post-Higger Tor hikers! A short 5 minute drive from the National Park which was great after working up an appetite. Food was tasty, arrived quickly and the staff were happy and friendly. They stop serving food from their main menu at 3pm so when we arrived at 2:30pm they had run out of a few things, but the alternatives I chose were lovely.

We had a really nice time today at Coleman's Deli! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a very friendly server and seated immediately. Even though it's fairly tight, it never feels that crowded. We were able to place our drink order immediately and our food order shortly thereafter. The staff was very nice to us and our children. I believe they were a mother daughter duo, and they were EXTREMELY friendly. This is one of those places where you go in and feel immediately at home. Our kids were very comfortable, possibly even too comfortable at points, but that is one of the things we were very grateful for during our visit. Their menu is also fairly extensive so there's really something for everybody. They have a good mix of Sweet and Savory options so you can get whatever it is you're looking for. The kids didn't eat their entire meal, but they've also been a little bit pickier lately so I don't fault the restaurant for that. My wife and I absolutely devoured our food and I am sad that we won't get the opportunity to return. Sometimes in busy breakfast restaurants, the noise level can be overwhelming, and this didn't have that at all. None of us felt like we were speaking over anybody else or trying to talk over any background noise. This was our second visit and the first one was just as pleasant. I don't remember specifically what I got, but I do remember enjoying it. However, the Shatshuka this time around was the star of the show for me. It was very memorable, and I would highly recommend anyone who likes that type of thing to get it. We appreciate the warmth that the staff extended to us and definitely recommend it to anybody, especially families.

Second time I've visited Coleman's Deli, but first time eating in. Food: £16 I can confidently say the food is amazing and not overly priced at all. I had the 'veg supreme toastie' which consisted of mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes and pesto, served on sourdough with a side of couscous and I think a cabbage salad. I'm not a big eater, and I polished the whole thing off it was that incredible! Also purchased a oat cortado and a lemon a d raspberry cake to go (because why not). Staff & atmosphere: So friendly, the lady who served us was really lovely and seemed to genuinely care what we had been up to that day! Gave great advice for food options and what the delivery had to offer. All the other staff were also lovely. The atmosphere was very relaxed and for a smallish shop it didn't feel over crowded or loud.

Colemans Deli is absolutely outstanding! The food was amazing, full of flavor and beautifully prepared. The coffee and matcha were delicious, and the whole atmosphere was so warm and welcoming. Service was impressively quick, and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and kind – especially Charlotte, who made our visit extra special. Thank you so much, can’t wait to come back!

From the moment I arrived I was greeted by a welcoming smile and a genuine willingness to make the visit special. The coffee arrived quickly and was superbly crafted rich and well balanced, exactly what one hopes for in a café that values its brew. Myself and my wife spent a month in Hathersage and so Colemans Deli was our go to daily stop after a long walk with the dogs! In terms of setting, everything adds up to a relaxed yet polished atmosphere you get the sense of a local café that takes its role in the community seriously, rather than just ticking boxes. Whether you’re popping in for a quick coffee or staying for a longer break with a meal, the consistency of quality is clear. Colemans Deli offers more than just “a good coffee” it’s a complete café experience built on excellent service, atmosphere and care. I wholeheartedly recommend it and will certainly return on my next visit to the area.

Nice bar, a good selection of cask ales, quick service and a pleasant beer garden. We were served by friendly staff which was lovely after we stood 10 minutes at the bar of The Old Nag's Head up the road, being completely ignored by 3 members of staff. We didn't try any food but if you want a nice pint and friendly efficient service - I recommend The Rambler Inn!

Good pub which serves nice ales and lagers, which were reasonably priced. Good outside area and friendly staff, but charged £3.20 for a half pint of lemonade with a dash of orange juice. I myself had a pint of Guinness ( £5. 20 ish I think) not my round and very nice is was too, but taking the mickey on the price of soft drinks. Shame for the non drinkers.

Walked up to the other pub to find they had no food at all... This was later on the day/early evening. Then came here to find £5.95 for a tiny portion of fries (they were very good though) and when I wanted to order another portion, they'd run out so I was left very hungry when my friends were served their mains (which looked very good). I'm vegan so there's not a lot of options but I don't mind eating fries only so to find they'd run out of a staple like this was disappointing. I waited for my friends to finish their food and then had a 1.5 h drive back home and still had to cook dinner. Very convenient location and friendly staff and food was served quite quickly. But I won't come back for food.

We enjoyed our overnight visit . The staff were helpful and very pleasant. The dining room was a little “ shabby” and although I saw the staff clean tables with a spray bottle and cloth they were a little “ sticky”. Could probably do with a deep clean. The food was very good although if you ask for Caesar salad ask for the dressing on the side as it was too much. Large hearty portions, freshly cooked and there is a good selection.

The Miners Arms in Eyam is a traditional pub nestled in the historic village of Eyam, Derbyshire. This charming establishment offers classic cooking and a quaint atmosphere, making it a popular choice for visitors. In addition to its cozy interior, The Miners Arms also features a lovely garden and provides B&B rooms for those looking to extend their stay.
Just returned from a great 2 night stay. I'll get the 1 negative point out the way. The rooms were dated and could deffo do with a few quid being spent on them. That said, they were comfortable and had everything you'd expect. What more than made up for that was the food, drinks and especially the staff. The food was very good albeit very generous in portion size. The draft ale was great and the wine I had was very drinkable. The staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive. We'd like to give a special mention to Dani who was amazing. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we hope to visit again soon.

You WILL NOT REGRET staying here! Nestled in a beautiful, quaint village in the Peak District of Derbyshire, this place is truly a hidden gem! The staff was helpful and friendly, the rooms were comfortable and clean, iron/ironing board were available upon request, the Bakewell pudding was OUT OF THIS WORLD (get the custard!), and the village was a lovely place to walk, both in the evenings and the mornings. You'll love discovering the historical significance of both the village and the Miners Arms. Also nearby within easy driving distance is the palatial Chatsworth House, worth a visit in and of itself. We were slightly concerned about the noise coming from the outdoor pub guests outside our 2nd floor window at night, but the pub closed promptly at 2200, so we had no issues, after all. Stayed with a group of 5 friends (including 2 couples), and we all want to go back. We cannot recommend this place highly enough!

We called in for lunch whilst exploring the village. The pub is traditional and we received a warm welcome. There’s seating to the front and the rear of the pub and as it was a warm day we sat outside and had drinks and some lunch. The menu was varied with some great options including sandwiches. The food we had was really nice and good value for the price. We were only staying in the next village, so popped back up for a pint in the evening too. It was really vibrant with lots of friendly locals and a good atmosphere. As a bonus there is a really decent sized car park at the back. I would recommend this place to everyone and will visit again when I’m next in the area for sure.

We were stopping local so called in a couple of times for drinks and food. Always served in a very friendly manner by the lovely ladies who work there. Our order was taken promptly and served in good time, lovely tasty food (I had the pie and my partner had chicken with leek and stilton) served with well cooked veg, nice local ale too 🍺 😋 Recommended place to come 👌🏻 Edit: We came for the Sundi roast today aswell - very nice ! Lovely pub with very friendly staff. Had 3 excellent local ales on pump ( I really liked the Swift Nick). We ate here a few times when staying in the village and the food was excellent every time - I especially loved the seared tuna steak with new potatoes. Dog friendly throughout.
Keith E — Google review
We ordered the roast dinner along with a kid’s fish and chips and a sandwich, a pint of Guinness too. The Guinness was ok: poured improperly (nozzle went into the drink when topping-up) and settled a little slowly but not too bad. Food took a long time to arrive but arrived hot and freshly cooked. The beef was decent and a good portion too. Roast potatoes were very good but I’d have liked a few more. Veg was fresh, crisp and not mush, gravy was excellent. The Yorkshire wasn’t great, however: overdone on the outside and underdone inside. Another disappointment was the knives we were given: i had to saw at my beef to cut it; Initially I thought the beef was going to be tough but realised with the first mouthful that it was tender and juicy, and the knife was the culprit. Staff were attentive and friendly, atmosphere was nice. I would go back if I’m in the area again.

When visiting Hartington, make sure to stop by The Old Cheese Shop to indulge in a variety of dairy delights such as cream, butter, and an assortment of cheeses including Dovedale Blue, Hartington Stilton, and Peakland White. This renowned award-winning shop also offers local wines, beers, and an array of gifts. You can easily access the area by train or bus from nearby cities like Sheffield.
This had the best range of local cheeses - we got the Hartington Stilton from nearby Hartington creamery, sheep cheese from Crich, honey bee goat with and without thyme, ribblesdale smoked goat and a sage cheese. We could have bought more. Loads of little things in the store besides cheese. We got to Hartington 9am on a Saturday - secured parking in the street, walked a 5km loop and then went to the Old cheese shop. Recommend and I would return.

One of my favourite village in Peak District. Beautiful Shop with small pond in front of it. Staff is super friendly and they will explain each and every type of cheeses available in their shop. They have various types of cheeses, jams, honeys, wines, eggs. The eggs should buy with 1£ or something because that money will go some charity. I really liked that.
Hema L — Google review
A fabulous selection of cheese and even some local drinks/spirits. Crackers to go with your cheese, including Gf ones which is appreicated. The inside of the shop is small, as its an old building but the staff are fast and helpful, never seem frazzled even when tourists are milling about and are confused by the choices. There are many cheeses and its amusing to try and pronounce some of them. The staff take this all in their stride and I admire them for not just hitting us with a cheese board. They offer great advice on flavours and help with deciding if you cannot choose. We visit when camping, and the cheese happily sits in a cool box for many days with out turning, shows you the good quality of the produce. Highly recommended.

Nestled in the heart of the Peak District, between Buxton and Ashbourne, Biggin Hall Hotel & Restaurant is a charming 17th-century country house hotel with a rich history. The property boasts traditional interiors adorned with antique furnishings and original features, while also offering modern amenities such as en suite bathrooms. Guests can cozy up by the large stone fireplace or explore the well-stocked library.
We have been a few times and would highly recommend the restaurant (we haven't stayed at the hotel yet.) It manages to be very high quality without being pretentious in any way, made possible partly through the friendliness of the staff. Adam in particular does everything he can to ensure customers have the best experience, and is passionate about making sure people are looked after, and he clearly loves his work. The restaurant has very good acoustics too, so even when it's busy nobody has to raise their voice to be heard while dining there. While this is something everyone can appreciate, it must make an extra difference to guests who are hard of hearing.

My husband and I recently enjoyed an afternoon tea. It's a beautiful historic building, with lovely peaceful gardens. The food was great, gf well catered for. I had 4 criteria for finding a special place to stay as a treat to myself for my 60th birthday - olde worlde, 4 poster bed, in the Peak District, not overpriced. Biggin Hall Hotel immediately ticked all those boxes. It is almost a year since losing my mother so I needed a bit of a pick-me-up. I booked the most expensive suite with the 4 poster bed for 4 nights and I certainly wasn't disappointed. The staff were all extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for me. They even did me a special treat for my birthday (picture attached). All the food was delicious. The suite was absolutely gorgeous with an enormous bathroom and couldn't believe I'd ever be able to afford to stay in such a beautiful setting (inside and outside). I can't thank them all enough for helping to make my 60th the best birthday I've ever had. I know my mum would have absolutely loved this place too.
Val G — Google review
Well I've got absolutely nothing bad to say about this place and so won't. From the moment we arrived to the second we left it was about them doing things for us and not them trying to squeeze everthing from their guests. Sometimes it's the little things isn't. The small bottle of Prosecco along with cold beer and fresh milk waiting for us in the fridge. The thickness of the bacon the hotness of the plates, the friendliness of the staff, the quiet tranquility of the library or the ambiance created by the live pianist in the bar. Wonderful and without hesitation I would recommend Biggin Hall Hotel & Restaurant to anyone in need of a relaxing break.
Mark H — Google review
We had our wedding at Biggin Hall on 4th July, and it honestly exceeded all expectations. We chose Biggin Hall not just because of the stunning setting but because Paris and Andy actually listen to what you want from your day. For us it was a simple outdoor ceremony in their absolutely beautiful gazebo, dinner for us and 25 guests followed by drinks in the evening/outdoor games and time with our friends and family. We were fairly relaxed about the structure of the day, but even so, nothing was too much trouble - slight alterations to the wine list, organising Jonathan (the amazing pianist) to play while we ate, ensuring the tables were perfectly laid, and communicating everything to us perfectly both in the weeks and months leading up to the wedding and on the day. All the staff were phenomenal from start to finish: warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making everything run smoothly. The food was beyond delicious – beautifully presented and praised by every guest we spoke to. Our guests were able to choose from a choice of 3 starters, mains and desserts and the food came out perfect and the portion sizes suited even the hungriest of our guests. The breakfasts are just amazing as well. Our friends and family talk about what an absolutely first class weekend it was. We feel so lucky to have celebrated our day in such a special place. Special thanks to Paris and Andy for always making us feel so welcome and at home. We couldn’t have asked for anything more.
Emma J — Google review
A bit overpriced for what you’re getting. The rooms seemed a bit tired, the breakfast menu and options were the same. Staff were too over the top in terms of trying to get people to dine there in the evening, and it was borderline desperation. For such an expensive room, there isn’t much else you’re getting. You get offered a packed lunch, but unless you’re walking, this is irrelevant, and the options on offer sub par.

We stayed over bank holiday weekend (Sunday). We were unable to check in at the agreed 2pm time due to the room still being mopped? Staff were friendly and polite. Drinks were good value. Breakfast next day was good value as well. Only downside really was the noise from the bar area into our room. Very noisy with dogs barking and loud music and voices. We also had guests venturing down to our end of the hallway where there are only 2 room and they were loudly trying the doors to see if the room were theirs, even though they were clearly named above the doors. Overall a great location, good food and drink, polite staff and if you can handle a noisy environment (until the bar closes then this is the stop for you

We stayed at this hotel last year and it was really good so based on our previous experience we met some friends for an evening meal, who were staying there. On asking for a menu we were presented with an A5 size piece of typed paper with a very limited choice of food. A starters section which was overpriced. Two options for burgers at £15.95, fish and chips not cod or haddock at £16.95, pizza or lasagne. None of these would have been our food choices and there was no vegetarian or vegan option. This is not the menu that is advertised or that we remembered from last year. We ended up walking out and going elsewhere. The bar was left unattended on a couple of occasions, the staff spent half an hour pumping the beer pumps and the coke was flat. The Bailey's was served in a long glass with about ten pieces of ice added. There is a board outside advertising various lunch and evening meals and our experience was nothing like it. Also a plant pot dish was on the outside windowsill full of cigarette ends which anyone could knock off and scatter the contents over the pavement. Such a shame that this place has gone so downhill in a short space of time. Very disappointing. Our visit was Friday 12 September. Our friends who were staying there also commented on the very poor breakfast with hardly anything on offer.

Pleasant staff, but dreadful service We visited as a group of six. Four of us received our meals at the same time, one came much earlier, and mine as the server put it was “distincated” and had to be remade. In total, I waited an hour for my food, while the others waited around 50 minutes. When my meal finally arrived, it was poor quality and I wasn’t even given cutlery. Staff were friendly, but the service was an absolute joke. Nice enough pub for a drink, but I’d strongly advise avoiding the food.

I can only comment on the food as we stopped for lunch. Had the special deal. The chips were not crispy so we left them. The burger was ok but I think when ordering one they should ask you how you want it cooked.

Great service when we ordered lots of food 2 mins before last order. Food was amazing and portions at large and filling. I would definitely return and recommend.

went here for food after on a day out in hathersage today 11/08/25 the local chip shop was closed so seen the sign outside saying fish and chips 5.99 on the sign the time said 12pm till 4pm it was 130pm at the time so went in looking forward to a nice meal only to be told by the barman we don't do food till 4pm left very disappointed

We underestimated the time it was going to take for our food to come and so missed the bus we were planning to take, but I put that down to my bad planning not the hotel. The food when it came was great as was the beer and the rest of the service. We also had our dog with us and the pub is very dog friendly 🐕‍🦺. Having missed our bus and having to wait for the last bus, had the hotel had any vacancies, we would have been very tempted to spend the night. But as they were fully booked, we can't comment on the rooms.

Nestled between Hope Valley and the Vale of Edale, Losehill House Hotel & Spa is a stunning Arts and Crafts building that dates back to 1914. Originally established as the Moorgate Guest House, it has since been transformed into a luxurious four-star hotel within the Peak District National Park. The hotel offers 23 modern en suite bedrooms with picturesque rural views, flat screen TVs, and Wi-Fi.
We recently had our wedding at Losehill and they were absolutely incredible. The most perfect day ever, would not have changed a single thing. It really is a hidden gem. The venue itself is stunning, surrounding by the rolling hills and lots of cute lambs and sheep! The staff are so professional and the food is done to an incredible standard. Everyone loved it and unlike other wedding venues the bar was very reasonably priced and had a great selection of drinks. Shoutout to Jules for making the planning experience so easy and enjoyable and to Paul also for making sure the day ran perfectly - but also to the staff more broadly who went out of their way for every ask of ours. So many of our friends and family have commented that it is the best wedding they have ever been to and want to come back for a spa weekend away.

We booked 6 nights, but stayed for 5 - couldn’t handle the sewage smell and sound isolation issues (= bad sleep) any longer. Pros: - location - very convenient for accessing anything in Peak District (given you have a car). Lose Hill is literally at the door steps and hike is cool and views are amazing! - staff was friendly Cons: - sound isolation is very poor. Several nights couldn’t fall asleep because people in bordering rooms or bar below were talking. Could hear literally everything. Closing windows and doors was of no help. - there were a lot of spiders in the room as well as bathroom - in every corner - pool area could be better cleaned and looked after (cracked tiles and such) - at around 19:30 every day it would start smelling sewage. The room would get all smelly. It was very unpleasant. Closing window facing the back of the hotel helped, but some smell would still get through to the room - bathroom had black mould - weather was warm and having no air conditioning was a downside. Probably not a problem when it isn’t hot. Overall we thought it overpriced given the above . This wasn’t a 4star hotel experience.

The location is beautiful. The restaurant is also beautiful. The view from the restaurant window was amazing. The food was excellent quality. The only downside is the portions are very small. I had to order an extra side after my main because I wasn't full. That's the only reason for my 4 star rating.

The service, bar selection, spa facilities and treatments were brilliant. The set evening dining menu was fantastic. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and offer a good quality attentive service. I booked a full body massage with Lisa who not only sent me to sleep, but worked out some knots in my back that had been causing me pain for a while. Lisa also gave me plenty of advice for things I could do on a daily basis to as a preventive measure going forward. Highly informative as well as relaxing. The scenery is priceless. Definitely recommend.

The best wedding I could have asked for. I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. A stunning hotel with lovely food, professional staff and incredible surroundings. You are absolutely in the middle of the peaks with an unbelievable backdrop. The orangery has out of this world vistas and light, even if the weather isn’t incredible, and it turns into a great dancefloor for the evening. The venue is classy, jaw dropping and can accommodate an absolute session with lots of drink! I cannot thank Jules (the wedding planner more). Responded to all of our questions, nothing phased her at all, and I wasn’t worried about the day in the slightest in her competent and experienced hands. Also, spending the morning after your wedding in the outdoor hot tub has insane wow factor. Honestly, if you’re planning a wedding this is the venue dreams are made of - all of our guests could not believe just how incredible the hotel is in every which way. Thank you so much Jules and team for giving us the best day of our life.

We stayed as a joint 70th and wedding anniversary treat. What a lovely spot and such lovely staff. I had the best massage by Tatiana and we then enjoyed a delicious dinner with drinks in the comfy lounge to start and end our meal. A great night's sleep in a wonderfully huge bed and then a Derbyshire breakfast in the dining room with the most amazing views. It's a little off the beaten track but worth the journey.

Faultless. From the well priced menu at £65 for three courses to the attentive and friendly staff. To the well made cocktail. The fairly priced wine list. The coffee and petit fours and the light bathed dining rooms with dreamy views of Lose Hill, I have at last found a place to take out of town guests where I can be sure that we will have a great evening.

Went here with my friend yesterday for a spa day. On arrival they had got my name incorrect r at the end of it. We went into the lounge area where we had a drink. Noisy with a cleaner hovering up across from us. Went to have our spa treatments which were okay. After we went to have our 1 hour pool use..no lockers available for valuables! was asked if we had anything valuable with us...er yes phones, money & bank cards. The receptionist said we could leave these with her behind reception or keep them with us by the side of the pool/hot tub and we would be given a complimentary drink for our inconvenience. Pool area was okay but very small as was the changing room area. Food & drink was okay & they did let us change from afternoon tea to something else on the menu, food & drink was good. Would we go again...no not for a spa day. reason: security of valuables issue.

If you're looking for a delicious, old-fashioned slice of cake, or a rich and creamy pudding, the Bakewell Pudding Parlour is worth a visit. The selection of cakes and puddings is vast, and the staff are friendly and polite.
The young lady serving was polite and efficient. There was a good selection of tempting looking cakes, even late in the afternoon when we dropped in. I had a brownie which was a good size, and delicious. My husband had a millionaire shortbread which he informs me was equally good.

Bought Bakewell pudding in lieu of bday cake for my Mum’s birthday! Opened after travelling home to discover a very pasty pudding with a tiny sliver of jam (shown) Must say I’m disappointed for £6 price tag

I ordered a hot roast pork roll with stuffing and apple sauce. It’s good in general but I took the 2 stars off because i couldn’t taste any apple sauce, the staff might have forgotten to put it in my roll. Hopefully, I could taste some apple sauce with the roll next time, it would be much nicer.

Popped in between Christmas and New Year with a friend. Prices are so reasonable given some of the prices of other places in Bakewell. Cute and creative festive treats. Loved the Bakewell traybake and the cookie which was a little on the sweeter side but beautifully decorated. Lady behind the counter was alone but despite a packed shop (with humans and dogs), she was so friendly and explained what the Bakewell traybake was. Our hot chocolate and caramel macchiato were excellent too. Will definitely return to try out more treats.

I normally buy my Bakewell Puddings from The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop round the corner. But the queue was long so instead I took a punt on this place. Glad I did as the pastry was a lot better than the ones I've had previously. Would definitely go again. Although word of warning, the flaked almond puddings were lacking in jam and that seems to be a recurring theme. Stick to the traditional puddings and you can't go wrong.

I visited today and was served by a young lad who was really friendly and helpful. I have a severe nut allergy and he took the time to check ingredients properly and made sure I felt safe with what I was ordering. He didn’t rush or dismiss it like some places do. The cakes were nice too, overall a good experience

Called in on Sunday ordered 1 hot pork cob and 1 ham cob total was about £8. Got my ham cob then 20mins later got the pork one! Checked my bank account this morning been overcharged, had to use my card because they couldn't give me change for cash. Overall poor service, disappointing food and paid too much.

Sangams is a popular Indian restaurant located in Hathersage, Derbyshire Dales. It offers a simple, nourishing, and high-quality menu with a variety of interesting options. Visitors have praised the well-thought-out menu and the subtle waft of Indian spices that greets them as they leave the restaurant. The restaurant is known for its great selection of dishes and is considered to be more than just your average curry house.
Brilliant restaurant and food well Worth the visit. 👌🏼

Had a fantastic meal at Sangams Restaurant in Hathersage! The chicken tikka was perfectly spiced and tender, full of flavor with just the right amount of heat. The mushroom curry was rich and aromatic, with a lovely depth of flavor, and complemented the rice beautifully. The egg fried rice was light, fluffy, and seasoned just right. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. Definitely one of the best Indian meals I’ve had in the area. Highly recommend this place for anyone craving authentic and delicious Indian cuisine!

Dined here after a day hiking in the area. Based on the reviews we were really excited to have a nice curry after a long day, but have to say we were quite disappointed. We had a wide variety of dishes that we shared between us, and we all felt the seasoning was lacking across the board. All the ingredients seemed fresh and of a high quality, but all needed a touch more salt. The other thing for me was just how greasy everything was. I know Indian dishes are generally oily, but this was excessive even by the standards I'm used to. It's not a good look if the top of the dish comes out with a thick layer of pure oil. If I could give any advice to the management it'd be to simply go easier on the oil, and taste the dishes a bit more for salt. The ingredients are there for a great restaurant and dining experience, but particularly the excess oil is not enjoyable to eat and does not suit me the following day.

Great little curry house, went after a long drive up to hathersage from Cambridge so was starving! Lamb jalfrezi was perfectly spiced with just the right level of heat, meat lovely and tender. Vegetable dopiaza was also delicious with the vegetables not just an afterthought. Great cooking. Service was friendly and fun, sometimes I forget how friendly the north of England is compared with down south… Would definitely recommend.

One of the best thing happened for us in peak district. The food was awwwwww. We enjoyed a lot. The taste was like home. Loved the service too. All the gravy were so good.

The best Indian food we’ve had for years! Visited Tuesday evening - didn’t book but easily accommodated in the lower small dining area (don’t know why as there were tables available on the ground level.) Menu is varied and with good descriptions. All can be cooked mild, medium or hot and there were great vegetarian options too. Then there was the fish section! If truth be known, when we searched online I already knew I wanted the Tandoori Trout - so rarely is this dish offered in restaurants, and I wasn’t disappointed, it was cooked to perfection. The bed of salad (crunchy white cabbage and cucumber / tomatoes) was just the right accompaniment. I never know what Pete will chose as his choices are so eclectic… he careers across the gamut of spicy dishes, from jalfrezi to rogan josh and back again! Literally just those two, never wavers, never wants to be disappointed. He chose chicken jalfrezi and to my surprise, mid-feast he proclaimed that he’d ‘have no trouble choosing anything else on this menu - I know I would enjoy them all.’ This is gushing praise indeed and marks a possible shift to a more adventurous Indian dining experience for us both…

Nestled in an old stone building on the main street of Hope, Grasshopper Cafe is a charming spot to unwind after a countryside stroll. The cafe offers a delightful array of hot beverages, including locally roasted coffee and cinnamon lattes, complemented by tempting homemade cakes and fresh seasonal fare. Its rustic ambiance, complete with a log-burning stove and wooden benches, creates a cozy retreat.
Wonderful service, delicious food, and amazing ice cream! I had such a lovely experience here. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. Fantastic food and very helpful staff. It's absolutely worth a stop here. We had the bacon bap/barm/bun/roll etc and the flat sausage one, they were lovely and the coffee was first rate as well. Food was good quality for the price. It was a little confusing about how to order etc and seemed a tiny bit chaotic but nobody should be put off going here it was great. Plus the little courtyard on a lovely sunny day was a welcome stop off. Would recommend!

My family and I stumbled upon this lovely cafe during a sunny June day out in the Peak District and couldn’t have asked for a better spot to enjoy a relaxed lunch in their lovely garden, overlooking Win Hill. The setting is lovely and was just what we were looking for after the four of us had been on a long walk in the Hope Valley. The food was fresh, tasty, and nicely presented. Everything we ordered was lovely and the coffee was great – the best that we’ve had in the area. Our experience was made extra special thanks to the warm welcome and genuinely friendly staff that we encountered. If you're in the area, this cafe is a must-visit – perfect for a tasty lunch, with unbeatable views and lovely staff. We’ll definitely be returning soon.

This post may come across as bitter, it's not meant to. It contains a review, albeit short, but is more about awareness of our life above Grasshopper & the attitude of the owners of the cafe & flat. Decisions have been made & nothing that’s happened can be recognised as illegal or officially contested with any guarantee of success. For me, it’s more to do with the way my girlfriend & I were treated. I'm not even aiming to promote the idea of boycotting the cafe, please do go there & keep the staff in work. I am only aiming to allow anyone who takes the time to read this some perspective & insight. Grasshopper Cafe has the best coffee in Hope, in my opinion (sorry Adventure Cafe, Courtyard Cafe and Hope Chest Deli, just my opinion), but, for me, the food is good, but overpriced. The staff are fantastic, despite a relatively regular turnover for some of the younger faces. Staff there really lift the character and reputation of the business. However & more importantly, I have directly experienced the proprietors to be deceptive, dismissive, duplicitous & unsympathetic. The original basis I’ve been told for them wanting to sell their business & flat are more than plausible, but I feel the treatment of my girlfriend & I was distinctly far from reasonable. We rented the flat above Grasshopper for around a year & a half. When we began our tenancy, we were assured that any problems we had would be dealt with quickly & efficiently: ‘Any problems, come & see us.’ We had problems from the start & each was deflected or dismissed in turn. We were told, repeatedly, that problems had been dealt with ‘as quickly as possible’. This "haste" was exemplified through: • The flat not being cleaned properly before we moved in (which we left spotless after we left, with zero gratitude) • Delayed repairs to guttering, resulting in the kitchen flooding. Twice. • A broken toilet seat when we moved in that we had to replace ourselves • A filthy and damaged oven, which we cleaned & fixed • Having to chase repeatedly for our deposit back • A leak in the ceiling in the front room that after 9 months' neglect became a large hole, which took a further 3 months to finally fix Following this and more, on the 31st of January 2025, we received two copies of a Section 21 eviction notice through the post in a hand addressed jiffy bag, both countersigned by the business owners, giving us 2 months to move out of the flat. This was upsetting for both of us as we had planned to stay in Hope for at least another year & like to think that we had good relationships with quite a few of the residents, especially since we both worked locally. Given the scarcity of rental properties in the area, we were forced to look elsewhere, which threw other things into turmoil given the relatively short 8 week period. We had no contingency for this scenario & no prior notice or indication was given on this eviction, at all. In fact, we had previously been assured wholeheartedly that they would make sure our tenancy stayed in place, "no matter what", even if they managed to sell. It was instead cited that ‘a vacant flat might be more inviting to prospective buyers’ via text. That is the sole reason we've been given for our eviction. We were dealt with like unwanted squatters, with absolutely no justification. I’m not asking anyone that reads this for anything, nor am I expecting anything from this. I acknowledge that what is 'fair' or 'reasonable' can be down to interpretation, perception, or experience & that, in essence, nothing illegal has taken place. I have not lied at all or exaggerated any part of the experiences shared here & these were not isolated. A Hope resident said to me: ‘You don’t really think of someone as being unkind unless you see it for yourself, but I’d rather know than not.’ And that is honestly why I’m posting this. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

We came for Sunday lunch to meet up with the family. The sunday lunch was good and plenty of it, the lamb kebabs were also very good. Service was great and the staff friendly and attentive. We will definitely be coming here again and would highly recommend. It is also in a very beautiful part of the country.

We enjoyed Sunday Lunch with our family and it was outstanding, the flavours were amazing, especially the carrots. The trio of desserts were a perfect sweet treat. Unfortunately when we visited last Saturday, the service was very slow (despite arriving early, it being quiet when we arrived and prebooking) and it took about an hour for our food to come - when it did it was cold and the quality was incredibly poor. We had a whole range of meals (7 meals in total including kids, mains & sides) and honestly, not one of the meals were nice - several of them felt like cheap mass produced stuff, not hearty pub food, certainly not warrenting the high price tags. The manager was understanding about it, got us some warmer chips and gave us a discount but we wont be coming back here again for food sadly. It is such a shame and I try to be positive where I can, but it was honestly a very very disappointing meal out.

Lovely place! Went for lunch and the atmosphere was great, very welcoming and attentive staff. The food was INCREDIBLE, we had the beef shin and fishcakes and it was one of the best meals we have had out in a very long time. And they allow dogs and muddy boots so great for an after walk meal! Highly recommend!

If your not eating food STAY AWAY. Lots of empty tables inside which my family wanted to use to avoid the wasps outside. Only to be told they were only for people eating. There were at least 5 tables none with a reserved sign on them. The queue for getting drinks was about 25 minutes long as only 1 person was serving. It's a late summer afternoon so surely you'd expect it to be busy. This used to be a nice well run pub. But it seems no longer.

We had a roast here after a day of walking. The service was brilliant and the food was great. They have a few great vegan options (although it would be wonderful to have some vegan pudding options too). They serve til 9pm (I think) on a Sunday which was perfect for allowing us to really enjoy the whole day and have a delicious pub dinner. There's plenty of outdoor seating too with a lovely view. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back!

After 2.5hrs walk in Longshaw , we got 1.5hrs left for parking, so walk 5mins to this Pub restaurant. Late afternoon, only two staff on duty, we wait 15mins for serving , let know find table ourselves on a small area , other was reserved area !! Look quite busy ,but don’t why owners employ less staff. Luckily a couple finish their dining . We get a two sit small table , worry for long waiting foods , we only order one set of lunch deals and beer . Staff very good service but just too hard to handle many table . Foods tasty than we expect . Pizza feels like chef-made , not the frozen products . Maybe here was very famous, sorry about we only first times visit this area . Hopefully owner get more employees to give highly served.

Went for Sunday dinner as a family. We have been lots of times in the past and always would have rated it a 5 star experience, however, apart from the amazing Daisy, who seemed to be single-handedly trying to do everything for every table in the place! The food was decent, Daisy was great and the location, as always is fantastic, however, gone is the feeling of a well run country pub that you used to get when you arrived. It now seems to exist in an aura of chaos and the poor staff are trying to keep all the plates spinning whilst the management team, who, whilst visible, appeared to have zero interactions with customers other than putting out a few knives and forks out! Probably wouldn’t rush back.

The restaurant is very quiet on Thursday, so we enjoyed our time with nice food. No menu for kid but the staff offered bread for our baby. The main courses did not bring a wow impression but we appreciate the very fresh ingredients. Our baby really loved the toast and pan-fried veg. He had great time crawling around without disturbing other guests.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in September 2024 and raised a complaint about our poor experience caused by their failure to regulate their car park and aweful wifi signal. Our complaint raised in september, which to this date (8 months later), has still not been acknowledged or responded to by the directors of this business, despite chasing on various occasions. The Manager Harry provided a response to our complaint which failed to appreciate the inconvenience caused to us and offered no part refund or offer of good will for the stress their poor management caused. This hotel does not take the experience of customers seriously and has an atrocious record of dealing with complaints. I would not recommend this place and if I could give a 0 star, I would. On the day we were due to check-out they had poor regulation of customer parking, they had an unstaffed reception which delayed our onwards travel, resulting in me being late for a work commitment. Yet, my wife was waiting at least 10 mins at reception to check-out of the room which contributed to making her late for her work commitment at 11:00am. We were informed there was only one receptionist who would be with us to allow us to check-out soon, yet still waited at least 10-minutes to check-out which is completely unacceptable. This delay adversely impacted our plans for the day, in particular, it made us late for work meeting at 11 which made her look very unprofessional and caused her stress; We then were delayed by the hotel for a further 15 minutes to depart after we had checked out from the customer car parking area because the hotel staff allowed a BT contractor to park in front of parking spaces and the accessway leading to the customer parking area, which meant that no guests could leave as the road was blocked. The hotel also allowed a customer to park on the access in front of the BT contractor who we had to wait for before we could leave. We were told by a hotel staff that the hotel was aware that the customer was parked here because they were having breakfast with the hotel! This is extremely poor as the hotel was clearly aware that the BT contractor was at their hotel to fix the Wi-fi and were aware that the guests who had blocked the car park for a considerable amount of time were having breakfast, therefore the hotel staff failed to ask these people (or insist) that these persons move their vehicles immediately to a suitable car park (or overflow) to clear the access for other guests. This 15-minute delay made us late for a work appointment for 11am and caused her considerable distress. Parking in the access was not permitted as there is no parking spaces outlined and this would obviously block the access, causing inconvenience to hotel guests who had parked legitimately. We also consider this was a health and safety risk to us by being blocked in should a fire have occurred. Wi-Fi signal was extremely poor and couldn't connect - we tried to connect to the free Wi-fi during our stay for a business call on MS Teams, but the signal was so poor my wife had to apologise to those present and re-arrange. A hotel with a proposed 4* star standard sould not have such issues with this. Also, we were extremely disappointed that the Wi-Fi issues were not communicated to guests before or during their stay. Only at the point of check-out when my wife mentioned this to reception, the receptionist explained that the hotel were in the process of switching Wi-Fi and had issues with it so this is why the BT contractor was there. Do not stay here as they simply care about profit over customer service and experience.

We stayed at Brocco the night of our wedding and decided to revisit for an anniversary. It was just as we remembered! Wonderfully helpful and friendly staff, and very cosy stylish rooms. We also visited their restaurant and they gave us a free desert to share to congratulate us which was a delightful surprise. We will be back!

Thai restaurant
The Thai Pavilion in Babergh District offers good value for a local Thai restaurant, and the food is always fresh and tasty. Friendly staff make it a great place to eat.
Really lovely service with a smile plus great atmosphere and really good food. Win win!

Really nice place with plenty of space not too hot not too cold and good facilities. We were given a selection of seats chose to sit on other ones and this was quite an acceptable request to the staff. I drink skim promptly starter came within about 10 minutes of the drinks which we thought was pretty quick. While we were eating we noticed two members of staff and getting tableside training which again we thought was showing initiative on part of the employer. The food tasted great and in particular the coconut rice was amazing. My wife's choice of food was slightly hotter than mine but we both really enjoyed it and didn't have any problems with the service either. We didn't expect a themed puddings or coffees list and were very surprised once we had experienced both of these which rounded off our service quite nicely. Excellent place staff and experience can't wait to go back price wasn't bad either.

Had food delivered. Arrived hot. Average gai satay. The pa-naeng curry was very bland. When you order from a Thai place, you expect bursting flavors but this wasn't the case unfortunately. Didn't have the best experience unfortunately. PS. The prices are a bit higher for such food.

A beautiful place to eat , the food here is superb & it’s so easy to spoil yourself with the starters themselves which are amazing , I had the spicy crackers & dips for starters and jungle curry for main which was nice & spicy , staff were really nice & friendly place was spotless inside, nice & relaxing , the food and drink reasonably priced & would highly recommend

I went with my daughter and husband for our wedding anniversary and we loved the food. Very good quality food. The price was fair for what we had. We had 5 starters between the three of us, drinks and mains, 2 baileys coffees, and sorbet, this all came up to around £95 which wasn't bad. Would definitely recommend. The service was good also.

We had a booking this evening for 7pm. By 8.15 we had only been served our starter. After asking when we would be getting our main course, we were given a free bottle of wine and deepest apologies due to having to wait. The restaurant had problems with serving both the takeaway business and the restaurant. When we eventually got the food it was tasty, but unfortunately, we won’t be going to this restaurant again due to the slow service. As a gesture, we did appreciate the free bottle of wine. Thank you.

Had an absolute gorgeous meal, again! We used to go regularly 10 years ago before moving away and just came back for an anniversary treat. We were not disappointed. Such tasty food and very good value! They are suffering the covid aftermath which is such a shame because is really good. Very friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit!
