History Museums
Sønderborg Castle, originally built in the 12th century, is a picturesque brick-built waterside castle that now houses a cultural history museum. The castle's gardens and courtyard make it a charming venue for romantic weddings. The town of Sønderborg grew around the castle and is famous for its recurring Tilting-at-the-Ring event. Visitors can explore the well-preserved Renaissance castle overlooking Als Sound and enjoy scenic views from its tower.
Lovely building and lawned grounds around it. Well laid out museum. Very helpful cashier described the pamphlet which made it easy to follow and enjoy almost every room.
William H — Google review
Very friendly staff member at the ticket office who gave me a detailed rundown of the museum and it's exhibitions. The museum itself is interesting and well made, I loved the temporary exhibition on World War 1, the short videos with reenactments of actual experiencs soldiers had in the trenches nearly moved me to tears. My only complaint is that a lot of the exhibition (especially the temporary one) is in Danish only, which is a pity since there are a lot of Germans and non-danish speakers in general visiting
Proserpina — Google review
Awesome, needs about 2hrs to go through all 3 floors slowly
Jorge S — Google review
Sønderborg Castle is a wonderful place to visit — beautifully preserved, well organized, and offering great views over the water. The exhibitions are interesting and thoughtfully presented, making it easy to explore the region’s history. I would only suggest adding a bit more historical context or storytelling to some sections to make the experience even richer. Overall, a very enjoyable and worthwhile visit!
Samuel P — Google review
A quaint castle full of history. The kids had a wonderful time decorating their swords and crowns.
James C — Google review
I visited the museum with my danish partner and I was really happy I could visit it with him because not a lot was in English or German. So he basically did a lot a explained. So to me the price is a bit high for not understanding more than half of the rooms. The cafe is also nice. The costumes are however nice.
Zaza — Google review
We only walked around the castle, didn't go in. But it was beautiful from the outside.
Hanna T — Google review
I would give it more if there were more explanations in English.. With QR this could be done at low cost. Start with explanation about the room and then do the top exhibits and so on.

The exhibition at the Deutsches Museum Nordschleswig explores the German minority in Denmark. It showcases a range of artifacts, audiovisual documents, and interactive quizzes. The overall presentation is engaging and informative. However, it is unfortunate that the focus is primarily on the 19th and 20th centuries, neglecting earlier periods of history. Nevertheless, it remains an interesting place to learn about this cultural aspect of Denmark's past.
Nice place in treating history
Johanne L — Google review
The price is 60kr and there is no student discount which is still affordable. The museum has a new audio guide and you can follow the entire exhibition in English or German which is a plus. The guided tour is a real added value and it's nice that you don't have to pay extra for it. I would recommend spending 1 to 2 hours there. I really enjoyed discovering and learning new stuff about the German minority in Denmark.

That was amazing experience! Jacob, the museum worker, very dedicated and open person, aimed to share the information about the battle in the best possible way. He was very kind to translate the lecture from Danish to English. Moreover, he has provided a lot of interesting facts. So far, that was a great time. Recommended for families with kids and dogs:)

We were here because our old friend work as tour guide. Very interesting museum and we were learn about the history of the 1st world war between Denmark and Germany. The kids were enjoyed! Learn about the morse and old fashioned bowling. And beautiful views and the windmill.
Amelia S — Google review
It is an interesting historical place for the battle that happened here. Mostly for Germans and Danes. Even though it was back in 1864, there's a lot of information about who was fighting and who died. It was also the first time the Red Cross was there to help.
Flemming B — Google review
Historic place. Denmark and Germany in war in 1884. Very realistic place to visit. Definitely worth a visit also for families with children. There are lots of realistic buildings and exhibits. Once you have visited the place, you can go down to Dybbøl mill. Is it a summer day you visit the place, lies Vemmingbund beach, not far from there. A lovely beach
Morten W — Google review
Very interesting exhibition with lots of history about what happened in the months of 1864. Unfortunately it is a very small site and you can see it all in a few hours. But if you add some walking routes in the surrounding area to see the ancient battle positions it will take longer. Support history and visit this site if you are in the area.
Kaspar B — Google review
The guides make the experience. They are great at sharing the history in a way that appeals to both children and adults. Very much worth a visit.

Cathrinesminde Teglværk is a captivating historical monument that has been lovingly restored into an industrial museum, offering visitors a glimpse into Denmark's brick-making past. Nestled along the picturesque banks of the Flensburg Fjord, this site is surrounded by rolling hills and lush forests, making it a scenic destination for nature lovers. Upon arrival, guests can enjoy a 20-minute historical film available in English, Danish, and German to set the stage for their visit.
Unique historical monument. The very lovingly, completely restored brickworks industrial museum is really interesting for various reasons. On the one hand, it is located in one of the most scenic regions of Denmark, right on the banks of the Flensburg Fjord, surrounded by rolling hills, fields and forests. You have the option of a 20-minute historical film screening (English, Danish, German) right near the entrance area. In addition, e.g. to visit the ring oven, the drying barns, kneading machines and the very well-preserved, fully furnished workers' apartments, which gives a real insight into the living conditions of the people who work there. The museum staff is very friendly, extremely competent and helpful in answering all questions. The entrance fee is reasonable and a visit to this museum is really worthwhile / recommended!

It's a cute and unusual place. It is quite informative and cool to walk around the factory. Worth visiting if you're in the area (e.g. on the Gendarmstein hike). On May 2, they had just opened, so there was no food truck.

Munkegaard Traktormuseum is a hidden gem for tractor enthusiasts, showcasing an impressive collection of over 220 unique and rare tractors from around the globe. This private collection features some models that are so scarce, with fewer than 80 ever produced! Families will find it particularly enjoyable, as kids can even try out electric vehicles on-site. While the A4 information sheets attached to each tractor may detract slightly from photography opportunities, they provide valuable insights into these fascinating machines.
Great variety of tractors and machines. Entry is cash or mobile pay only

(Translated by Google) Incredibly exciting collection. It takes up 3 rooms with large shelves full of flint that was worked several 1000 years ago. Definitely an exciting experience if you often go to a stone beach. Incidentally, a FREE experience 😊👍🏻👍🏻 (Original) Utroligt spændende samling.

You are not allowed to touch anything. Unfortunately this was a disappointment. However, I can recommend the Archaeological Collection with 5* and more.
