Chappaquiddick Island

Island
Nature & Parks
Chappaquiddick Island, also known as Chappy, is a serene destination that offers a variety of outdoor activities such as cycling, biking, and hiking. The island boasts salt marshes, woods, and meadows for visitors to explore. Accessible only by ferry or a beachy drive from Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard, Chappy is mostly conservation land with impressive homes. The island features limited commercial establishments like the Blackbird Cafe - its sole store.
Travellers, chappaquidick is an iconic and gorgeous must-see spot on Martha’s Vineyard. The beach is beautiful and you can drive right on the beach for miles and miles. The views are never ending and they are located in each and every corner of this barrier island. The bay side of the island is gorgeous. The ocean side of the island is gorgeous. There are shells of every sort so shelling is fantastic here. There are live scallops washed up on the shore sitting bucolically in the sand. It is not cheap to get there however. You must pay the trustees $200 to gain access to all their lands on Martha’s Vineyard. It is worth the price. There are other places to go and other beaches to visit. Check it out. We recommend. TLDR gorgeous beach Wilderness.

We took the Chappy Ferry and biked to Wasque Point. Nice ride, but but several small hills. Also part of road is packed sand. At end of road there is a bike rack. It's impossible to ride bike in the sand. If you're a nature-lover, this is definitely worth it. Lots of wildlife to observe. Port a potty at Wasque Point.
Michelle C — Google review
Best island around New England, but I’m bias.
Dia O — Google review
"Chappy" still has some of the most virgin land on the east coast and whether by land or sea it is still possible to find vast streatches of beach without a soul for miles. It is popular for fishing, swimming, hiking, biking, and has a small and secluded population. By car a ferry is necessary from Edgartown and the wait and cost is typically reasonable. I prefer to visit by boat into the magestic Cape Pogue bay though most areas can be reached by multiple means. Tourists will enjoy finding the bridge where Kennedy killed his girlfriend but don't expect it to look as it did back in the 60s (the bridge has been upgraded since the controversial incident). "Chappy" is a special place and it's a great way to get a sense for the island's reputation without trespassing.

What an amazing place to go for a relaxing weekend, ten stars all the way!
John M — Google review
Stayed on Chappy in 2008 and 2009. I’ve traveled a bit since then, both in the States and abroad. My time on Chappy remains my favorite vacation. The world slipped away for a time. The beaches, the simplicity, my daily walks down the road to the ferry and over into Edgartown before the residents were out and about. Our sunset cocktail hour out on the grass overlooking the water. I still savor every day of my time there.
Cindy D — Google review
Lovely day trip. The Cape Poge Lighthouse tour was beautiful and the scenery was amazing! Our guide was a sharp and knowledgeable man named Dick. Totally worth going to see. We brought our lunch and sat on a beach and watched the boats go by. A nice quiet day and a beautiful drive. The ferry was not a bad wait. They keep the line moving.

Edgartown Harbor Lighthouse

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Edgartown Harbor Lighthouse, a 45-foot cast-iron tower, stands as a guardian at the entrance to Edgartown's harbor and Katama Bay. This iconic lighthouse is surrounded by a stunning beach and is a popular destination for visitors. It offers picturesque views for photographers, especially during sunrise, sunset, and even astro-photography. The area also boasts luxury boutique hotels, top-notch restaurants, and access to Chappaquiddick Island across the harbor.
The place is insanely beautiful in my opinion. Not only the lighthouse but how you get there, and when you get there, there’s the beach and the lighthouse is on a sort of pedestal that you go up with some stairs and the view of the beach is amazing. I love lighthouses so for me the place is dreamy. I don’t think I can explain it well so you have to see for yourself!!
Yael C — Google review
Great lighthouse in beautiful location! Easy flat 5 minute walk from the road. Carry in/carry out policy. Certain sections roped off to protect nesting bird populations. Popular place at sunrise and sunset. Lots of seashells and bird wildlife. You can go up in the lighthouse for $5 between 10am-4pm. Highly recommend! We visited almost daily. Stay at the Harbor View Hotel across the street for spectacular views of the lighthouse throughout your visit. No bathrooms on site.
Michelle C — Google review
Great little lighthouse! Small stature, but big character. One might define it as "stout". Surrounded in a beautifully scenic and tranquil landscape amongst local wildlife and beach. There is a short boardwalk and sandy path walk to the lighthouse. No climbing here. Just enjoy the view from the ground.
Seth C — Google review
Are we beautiful place to visit. There’s a little bit of a walk form where the cars drop you off but every bit worth it.
Riddhi B — Google review
No drones, wildlife over here, on windy days it’s the worst beach to be at, the lighthouse is cute from the hill! And some great photo ops
Taras M — Google review
Great visual and historical experience . It was off season so we could not go inside the light house. Easy to get to using the free bus service ( #13) and a short walk (15 min) to the light house.
DAVID N — Google review
A stately white cast iron lighthouse that is the second one on this site. The original required the lighthouse keeper to visit by boat, until they built a wood causeway, which they later reinforced with a stone jetty. You can still see the jetty, which is surrounded by sandbar and trails. There's a nice beach nearby with views of the harbor. This lighthouse, like a lot of other local sights in Edgartown, appears in the movie Jaws, during the scenes on the harbor in Amity Town.

Decent. The song by the road said open. But it was not. Wednesday, 2 pm. Light rain.

The Flying Horses Carousel, a Vineyard Preservation Trust property, is a historic antique carousel originally from Coney Island, NY. It has been in operation since 1876 and is the oldest continuously operated carousel in the United States. The carousel features stationary horses with real horsehair manes and tails, as well as iconic brass rings for riders to grab.
Fun and affordable horseback riding. Experience the Famous Flying Horses. Unfortunately, this horse was disqualified from ride due to this gelding behavior. Best boy ever! Mr. Handsome
Kriss S — Google review
Had to do it. It's a thing here at OB. $5.00 a ride though. Pretty steep. Horses do not go up and down. I didn't get the hype but it's done and we can move on
Lisa C — Google review
Historic site. Very busy. Great spot for kids. Pick up a copy of the Vineyard Gazette near the checkout counter and complete the Treasure Hunt.
Michelle C — Google review
If you ever find yourself on Martha’s Vineyard, you must stop by the Flying Horses in Oak Bluffs. It’s not just a carousel, it’s a piece of living history. Built in the 1870s and still going strong, it’s actually the oldest operating carousel in America. And when you walk into that little red barn and hear the music start, you feel like you’ve stepped straight into another time. The horses themselves are works of art, hand-carved, with real horsehair manes. They don’t go up and down like modern rides, but trust me, the magic is still there. Especially because of the brass ring game. As you spin around, you lean out and try to catch a ring. Most are steel, but if you snag the elusive brass one, mazel tov, you’ve earned yourself a free ride. That’s what happens to my son. It was so fun! And honestly, there’s something so joyful and pure about seeing both kids and adults stretch, laugh, and cheer each other on. What I love most is the feeling it gives you. It’s not about thrills or flashing lights. It’s about simple joy, shared tradition, and that sweet reminder that happiness is often found in the little things. Riding it with my family, I could feel generations before us doing the same, smiling and reaching for that brass ring. It’s not just a ride, it’s a metaphor for life. So yes, go ride the Flying Horses. Laugh, grab the rings, and let yourself be carried for a few minutes into a world where joy is uncomplicated and timeless.
Rabbi B — Google review
I visited Flying Horses many times during my childhood and look back on those experiences with fond memories. I was able to bring my family yesterday after not having gone for 20 years and I was amazed to see that it has remained the same and they have done an amazing job with preserving it. The only thing that has changed about this place are the prices and one ticket cost $5. The ride probably lasted around 3 minutes and you are essentially paying over 1.50 a minute. My family wanted to go for a second time but I could not see paying another $30 dollars. I recall going on it many times back in the day because it was so inexpensive.
Jennifer — Google review
Such a cool historic place to visit with this still active and beautiful carousel.
Susan M — Google review
Amazing that they have preserved a 150 year old carousel.

Farms
Island Alpaca Company in Vineyard Haven is a delightful destination for animal enthusiasts. The farm is home to over 50 colorful and friendly alpacas, offering visitors the chance to interact with these charming creatures through petting, photo opportunities, and observing their playful behavior. Additionally, the farm hosts various special events such as alpaca yoga and walk and talk sessions.
We had an amazing time visiting Island Alpaca Company near Vineyard Haven! We were lucky enough to see two adorable baby alpacas, and the staff was incredibly friendly, even bringing them over for us to pet up close. The alpacas were super friendly and came right up to the fence, which made it easy to see them up close. The gift shop was also a highlight, offering lots of high-quality, cute items. The $8 entry fee was totally worth it for such a unique and memorable experience. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Martha’s Vineyard!
Skye B — Google review
Had a very pleasant 1.5 hour visit with the llamas and their guardian alpacas just after the 10 am opening on a Wednesday morning. Fun to watch the herd interact with each other and their handlers in the paddock. Very informative and nice handlers who answered everyone’s questions and explained about the farm and the animals. You can pet them (so soft) and take lots of fun pictures from outside the fence. We were fortunate to see a 3 day old baby on his first day outside of the barn. There are two paddock areas to see them – one out in the open and one that has shade and seats. Though kids will love this, it is also very interesting for adults, too. Lots of unique items made from their wool in the gift shop. Nominal admission which we were happy to pay to help the farm continue.
Scott S — Google review
If you love alpacas and/or lamas then this is your place! Animals are well kept and sweet. Great place for small kids. Employees/volunteers are knowledgable. Cute little gift shops woth options ranging from $4-over $100. Easily accessible via public transportation.
Dee W — Google review
We went to Island Alpaca today with the kids and it was a blast! The alpacas are so cute and gentle, and the kids loved petting them (okay… so did we). The staff was super friendly and happy to answer all our questions. The farm is clean, easy to walk around, and there’s a little shop with the softest alpaca socks and scarves. It’s a short visit but such a fun one, perfect little break in the day. Definitely one of those “only on Martha’s Vineyard” experiences.
Rabbi B — Google review
Pretty cool place to visit if you’re in the area! I was a little concerned at first but the entry is very cheap so I figured let’s give it a shot and I was not disappointed. There were a number of knowledgeable staff there to answer questions, and I guess we came at feeding time which was funny to see the Llamas freak out about food. I learned quite a bit for my time there and would go back if I get the chance. The gift shop is quite expensive but I don’t mind supporting local businesses so we bought a cute little llama with a hat. Overall it’s quite out of the way but there is a bus that drops you off right in front so if your in the island and have some time do check it out, it’s pretty cool!
Steven H — Google review
Fun place to see alpacas! Bring your kids, since they can pet alpacas. Watch out for some of them (alpacas) can spit. Gift shop has lots of souvenirs. A vintage tractor can be seen also.
E A — Google review
This isn’t my cup of tea, but did I leave with an extremely happy gf ? Yes i did. Everyone was nice, it was like $5, can’t say any of the souvenirs were cool for me but we did play with some of the alpacas and llamas. Don’t forget llamas are spitters, so be prepared !

Sights & Landmarks
Morning Glory Farm, established in 1975, is a family-owned farm on Marthas Vineyard known for its commitment to conservation and farmland preservation. The farm spans 65 acres and features a diverse range of fresh produce, flowers, herbs, and more. Their expansive farmstand offers an array of just-harvested vegetables, fruits, dairy products, freshly baked goods like pies and muffins as well as starter plants for home gardens.
Morning Glory Farm is one of the best farms on island in my opinion. A family farm, they supply ingredients to so many island homes and restaurants. Thankful because I live just five minutes away! If you're visiting, it's a must because it's a great spot to stock up for food if you're staying in a rental and wanting to cook local island produce. Also a great farm stand to pick up beach food - they have everything from a delicious salad bar to baked goods, cheeses, crackers, charcuterie, and so much more. Need peanut butter? They grind their own and it comes in a glass jar (yei no plastic!); need flowers for a dinner, they have them; want some beach plum jam, they make their own - also their strawberry jam is amazing! Plus they have ready. to eat dinners like tacos, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, and so much more, easy to reheat when you're on the go. Morning Glory Farm - definitely a favorite on island!
Marnely M — Google review
Nice market with a good selection of produce and dry goods along with fresh baked goods and prepared foods to go. Not as extensive of a selection as some of the other markets but still a great place to pick up fresh ingredients for all your cooking needs.
Maggie J — Google review
It's a beautiful store with wonderful produce. And my wife thought that the veggie black bean burger was to die for. I liked the homemade oatmeal raisin cookie with a cup of ice coffee. Great place to spend a half hour picking up food for dinner.
Michael T — Google review
Best produce on the island! Great baked goods and prepared foods. Lovely regular events (always check their social media). Kind and informed staff. Beautiful displays and sweet gifts as well.
Annie L — Google review
Our team gives Morning Glory Farm five stars. Our go-tos: the banana bread (moist, not too sweet), sesame noodles (perfect grab-and-go), and sourdough (crackly crust, chewy crumb). The staff is consistently friendly and helpful, even during rushes. Bonus: the rocking chairs on the porch are perfect for catching up on emails while enjoying a local snack. A must-stop for both locals and visitors.
Shored D — Google review
Accessible off the bike trail or by car, Morning Glory Farm serves breakfast pastries and also has a great selection of vegetables, breads, meats and fruit. Seasonal outdoor decor too

Sadly morning glory changed their blueberry muffin recipe in the last year and they're just not the same! The OG muffin that has been a staple for years and years was so much better- taste, size, and texture. Please bring back the old recipe for blueberry muffins!!

Great beach, good vibes, jumping off Jaws Bridge is fun. But, water is cold at times. Enjoy!

Easy to get to. Parking nearby unless it's packed, then you'll have to drive, it's accessible by bike and bus Vineyard Transit Authority or if you want easier access take a taxi. No dog's are permitted on the beach, restrooms are the Oak Bluffs Steamship, no restrooms on the beach.

Nice long beach, free parking on the street with access points. Can be busy during peak periods. Water is generally calm and clear. No toilets and only a small section has a lifeguard. Filmed in Jaws.
Paul M — Google review
This is a nice low key beach. No waves, parking along the road with a very short walk from the road to the beach. Nice to go and relax... Or jump from the Jaws bridge if you want a little adventure!
Emily M — Google review
Very narrow beach at high tide. Came across only two people who were avid fishermen. Too cold and windy to stay and enjoy. Nice long walking/ biking path that runs along the beach right across the road.
K — Google review
One of the most beautiful beach in MV. Crystal clear water, white sands....lots of seashells...during the morning is never crowded (except Sundays) and it happens to be alone at the beach. Really beautiful.

The depth of the beach in some areas is shallow and has somewhat limited parking, but the views and clear water makes the beach a really nice stop for most days. Even a night time visit is a great idea.

The sanctuary hosts various programs including birding and kayaking classes, as well as day programs for kids. It serves as a haven for wildlife observation and provides visitors with breathtaking views of landscapes.
A great place to visit with children who like to run around in nature. Our 3 year old really enjoyed the ponds, shoreline and wood trails. We found lots of beautiful shells including a large old horseshoe crab shell. The trails are well marked and the friendly staff in the Discovery Center were most helpful with making a suggested route. The Discover Center is also worth a look around. We met some really cool creatures in here (turtle, frog, snake, caterpillars), plus could watch the osprey and eagle nests on the live cam.

South Beach, also known as Katama Beach, is a popular 3-mile barrier strand located about 4 miles south of Edgartown on Katama Road. It offers heavy wave action and sweeping dunes, making it an ideal spot for beachgoers. The area provides relatively ample parking space and can be accessed by bike path or shuttle. Some sections of the beach are patrolled by lifeguards, and there are scattered toilet facilities available.
Pristine, tranquil and family friendly. Even though it’s not very swimmable here, it’s my go-to beach during my stay at Edgartown. It’s just so therapeutic in so many ways. I haven’t seen any drunk people making scenes here. I haven’t seen anyone trashing this place. That 30 minute walk on the clean and somewhat dense sand with my loved ones remain one of core memories. Let’s keep it this way people.

The Sweet Life Café is an upscale restaurant located in a tranquil space, offering seasonal New American fare sourced from the local area. With an ample wine list, it provides a delightful dining experience for visitors. The café is known for its delicious brunch menu featuring locally sourced items and excellent service. It has become a popular spot in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard, offering a variety of menu items that cater to different tastes.
We came here for an early dinner on a Tuesday night last week. The restaurant itself is super quaint and cute with a great outdoor patio adorned with string lights. We were seated on an indoor porch area which was great and felt super private for our group. Cocktail options were plentiful and delicious and the non-alcoholic almond lemonade was super interesting and good. For starters we ordered: House made foccacia with extra stracciatella Carrots with urfa chili & goat cheese - this was my favorite appetizer, great flavors and textures Risotto with sweet corn and shiitakes - this was fine, but a little on the bland side I ordered the pork chop for my main course with the sauce on the side. Absolutely loved the pork chop and thought the spaetzle and collards greens were the perfect accompaniment. Cute restaurant, good service, great food!
Maggie J — Google review
Dinner was spectacular and our server Filip was incredibly helpful with menu suggestions and recommendations. The outdoor garden atmosphere was cozy and serene. After almost 40 years of drinking martinis, this is the first restaurant/bartender that was able to make a genuine & proper James Bond Martini. The menu is a true testament to local and seasonal offerings, not just your typical tourist restaurant staples, you can tell that the chef goes out of their way to entice his audience with unique fare that is fresh and creative.

First time in Martha's Vineyard. Dine at The Sweet Life our server Chloe was amazing. But the true gym was the food it was delicious. I definitely would recommend Martha's Vineyard to anyone who wants to have a beautiful Point quiet and relaxing vacation here but if you want some sweet delicious food go to the Sweet Life, I heard Barack Obama even likes this place. Is definitely a thumbs up for me see why I call your attorney

Environment was on point. Service was surprisingly sub par for such a nice spot. Our server was good, but others didn't seem to quite understand restaurant etiquette. Scallop dish was yummy with the pomegranate seeds. Octopus was a bit charred, as was the focaccia but still pretty tasty. Pork belly was amazing.

Excellent restaurant in Oak Bluff. We started with the Negroni with Balsamic. Delicious. We share the focaccia, the mussels and mafalde. Each was wonderful. For mains, we had the sea scallops, tautog and pork chops. Each dish was fantastic and enjoyed by all. I highly recommend.

I have to second the sewage stench another reviewer mentioned!! It's absurd - it seems worse the closer to the bar you are on the patio. It wafts through whenever the back door opens which is constantly. Really disgusting. I was offended they sat me it what has to be known as the 'bathroom' seat and moved all the large parties to the far end where you're in the clear. Food-wise: I'm vegetarian and my waitress warned that the single option I had for entree would be less fulfilling than the meat courses for the same price. Not a good sign! If you are routinely getting feedback like that then do something about it; don't start dispensing 'beware' notices to guests before they eat. The sticky toffee pudding was served cold with a synthetic-tasting caramel. I asked for tea and they put such a small amount of water in the pot, it did not fill the tiny cup I was given and kept going cold. I had to repeatedly ask for more and could not leave the bag inside to brew since they kept having to replace it. It seemed like they didn't know how tea works.

The Sweet Life Café in Martha's Vineyard offers an exceptional dining experience. The atmosphere is inviting, and its prime location adds to its appeal. I started with the Iron Ranger cocktail, which was really tasty and well-balanced. The subtle hints of pineapple and almond enhanced the drink tremendously. The focaccia might have been the best bread I’ve ordered for dinner ever. Really flavorful, soft, and fresh. For the appetizer, I chose the HAMACHI CRUDO. It was incredibly fresh and melted like butter in my mouth. My entrée was the MAFALDE, featuring pistachio pesto, crab, asparagus, and anchovy pangrattato. The crab was soft and fresh, and the sauce was flavorful and delicious. I finished my meal with an espresso martini, a perfect end to a wonderful dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend The Sweet Life Café for friends, family gatherings, or a romantic date night. It's a spot I'd love to visit again.

Located at the prime spot on Main Street in Edgartown, Alchemy Bistro & Bar has been a staple of the local food scene for two decades. Under new ownership and chef, it offers a unique blend of culinary styles from Italy, France, and Spain to create an exceptional American bistro experience. The upscale restaurant serves a diverse menu featuring seafood, meat dishes, drinks, and desserts.
We went to the Alchemy for dinner on a Friday night. The place was very busy and a bit loud, which is to be expected. The cocktails at this place are really good. We got the Arbuz and a mojito. The mixed berry jam that came with the cheese plate was so good that I would recommend getting that appetizer solely for that reason. Out of the three entrees we got, the campanelle pasta (with sun-dried tomato & walnut pesto) was the star and the favorite of everyone at the table. We also got the halibut and chicken which were still tasty even if they weren't as good as the pasta. The mango strawberry cheesecake we got for dessert was also delicious, would recommend.

Great Food, Poor Service The food at Alchemy was absolutely delicious, but the service was disappointing especially given the price point. We waited about 45 minutes for our entrees with no updates from our server, who showed little interest in our table throughout the night. When my father-in-law asked about our meals, the response was dismissive, and he eventually had to speak with the manager himself. The server didn’t check in until we were already halfway through eating. A smile, a simple update, or even basic attentiveness would’ve gone a long way. For a restaurant with such great food and ambiance, the lack of hospitality really took away from what should have been a memorable dining experience.

After all the hype about this place from guide books and travel magazines, I can’t believe how bad it was. There was nothing interesting or original in the menu and when I finally chose something the resulting dish was not only underwhelming but just plain blah. I think the pictures speak for themselves.

We had the most amazing dining experience at Alchemy in Martha’s Vineyard (Edgartown) — and it was all thanks to Aileen, our incredible server. Her warmth, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality made our visit unforgettable. The food was absolutely divine. I had the steak — perfectly cooked and full of flavor — and my husband ordered the salmon, which was just as impressive. Every bite felt like a celebration. Aileen truly elevated the entire evening. We’ll definitely be coming back to Alchemy — and asking for her again. Thank you for making our night so special! ✨

Excellent service. The menu was short, though everything on it seemed well-designed. Unfortunately, everything was way too salty to enjoy properly. The fried oysters were nothing special -- fried for too long and then covered in too much barbecue sauce. The quality of the fish and lobster was excellent, but again bathed in too much salty sauce.

Family dinner to end our trip was well spent here - a post dinner walk was also a great after dinner treat. Our servers were attentive and the food was great.

My daughters and I were seated upstairs in the back room next to the fireplace. It was a fun spot to sit; we could look out across the rooms and watch the hustle and bustle of this lively restaurant. Our server Michael made our dining experience absolutely delightful. By far the best server we had during our stay on Martha’s Vineyard. We shared everything we ordered and were not disappointed with our choices. The Jonas crab and asparagus salad was very fresh, not overdressed and gracious plenty to share. The fresh oysters were also a hit. I split the 2lb. lobster with spätzle and fresh veggies with one of my daughters, it was over the top delicious! My other daughter had the scallops and also found them to be delicious. The girls split the flourless chocolate dessert and enjoyed every last bite!! The cocktails were really good, the wine list so-so but everything else was fantastic. We loved this spot for the fun atmosphere and delicious foods. I highly recommend going. And ask for Michael!

Restaurant
Detente is a charming and romantic restaurant located on Marthas Vineyard, owned by the husband-and-wife team Kevin and Suzanna Crowell. The name "Detente" means relaxation and good relations in French, which perfectly captures the atmosphere of this cozy venue. The restaurant offers a delectable menu featuring contemporary American dishes with French and Italian influences. With a warm ambiance and attentive service, Detente provides an ideal setting for a memorable dining experience.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Détente during our trip to Martha’s Vineyard. It was a flawless experience from start to finish. Truly fine dining at its best with exceptional service and unforgettable food. We enjoyed our meal outside on their patio. To start, we shared the lobster risotto and the peach salad (a special the night we dined in July), both beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. For our entrées, I had the pan seared halibut. It was perfectly cooked and full of vibrant summer flavors! I loved it. My husband throughly enjoyed the pork rib chop al pastor, which was juicy and flavorful. We ended the evening with their bread pudding, the perfect sweet finish to an outstanding meal. Highly recommend for a special occasion or any night you want to treat yourself to an exceptional dining experience.

I was able to visit Detente while on the Vineyard and I was most happy I did. The service was quite good and the meal was excellent. The mocktails were quite good and expertly mixed. I can highly recommend Detente and will be happy to enjoy a meal here again.

On a beautiful night we visited Detente and were seated in the lovely courtyard. Every dish was an incredible and inventive mix of flavors, beautifully presented. The recommended wines we ordered were amazing, perfectly complimenting each course. And the service was also fantastic. Attentive and knowledgeable. If I am ever back on the Vineyard, I will make sure to return to Detente...

Detente is BY FAR one of THE BEST RESTAURANTS on Martha's Vineyard and one of the best I've been to the world over. It is such a culinary delight: the innovative flavor combinations, the textures... OMG! Amazing every time! Great for foodies. Try the tasting menu with wine pairing! I'm sure you will love it too. And like me, I'll bet you will find yourself returning again and again. This family-owned and operated dining establishment is a local blessing. Truly!
Constance M — Google review
I’ve eaten at Detente consistently over many years, it’s probably my favorite restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard. It’s a little hidden away, so many folks aren’t aware it’s still a convenient option in town. It’s a wonderful combination of great food, a professional staff and good wine list. For Martha’s Vineyard the prices aren’t bad, particularly given the quality. They have both indoor and outdoor seating but it is a seasonal restaurant. A very solid option for either seafood or beef. Highly recommend by both my wife and I.
John A — Google review
Unfortunately, we had quite the unpleasant experience at Detente this evening. Seeking a fine dining option in MV to celebrate my MILs birthday, we chose Detente after reviewing their menu online. At the time of booking through OpenTable, we were informed there would be a $25 pp + tax cancellation fee imposed by the restaurant should we cancel, so we made sure we found food items on the menu posted online to ensure this was something we wanted to eat. The only time available online was 5:30, which is when they opened, and they sat us at an outdoor table despite us requesting indoor. We were informed by the front desk that the restaurant was “fully booked”, and our request for indoor seating couldn’t be accommodated since they pre-select tables for the registered guests. The restaurant remained more than half empty the entire time we were there, and the menu posted on their website was not what was offered at the restaurant. When I asked our server the reason for this, the server stated the online menu was “outdated”- not helpful for us being out of town and relying on the published menu to make our reservation. We found other items on the limited options offered, and my husband ordered a ribeye cooked medium-rare. The first steak was brought to the table well-done, so we sent it back. The second time the steak came it was cooked to medium temperature, so we requested the manager to come to our table. Susanna came and stated that to her, the steak was fine, and when I explained the misprinted online menu and request for inside service, she stated that the context I gave was “a lot to unpack”. She was extremely unprofessional, but did offer to remove the steak from our bill. I would not recommend this restaurant to those familiar with and expecting a fine dining experience. Drinks- mediocre, lobster risotto- overcooked, cod- decent. Seek options elsewhere.
Ariel G — Google review
Our expectations were set high but we were underwhelmed with the overall experience for the price. Cocktails were unbalanced and not drinkable. The music selection was odd. Our main issue was the lack of contrasting textures and balance of flavors in the dishes: the appetizer pasta on top of a puree was tasty but all soft and too rich, and melted cheese over a fresh peach salad was unexpected, though the pairing of truffle and peach was flavorful. The local fish was over seasoned. I subbed risotto (gf) for the dish’s intended couscous but found it too to be too creamy and overly seasoned. It was a good meal but with limited time on the Vineyard we’d wished we’d gone elsewhere.

The heart of the ribeye was one of the best beef entrees I’ve ever had, absolutely incredible. The outside garden area is incredibly charming. We loved dining here!

Without a doubt ~ one of Martha's Vineyard's BEST experiences! Chef (and his glorious brigade of culinary masters) will WOW you with one-of-a-kind creations. Red Cat Kitchen is where bold creativity meets thoughtful, soulful food. From the very first bite to the last moment of the meal, it’s clear this spot is about more than just dinner — it’s about experience. I started with the Island Fresca, a chilled soup that surprised and delighted me. Light, flavorful, and full of freshness. Definitely order it with the Boris Made the Focaccia — the name is fun, and the bread is perfectly herby and warm. My husband had the Blue Hill Maine Mussels, which were such a hit he ordered extra focaccia just to soak up the broth. I followed with the fish and corn risotto — creamy, rich, and full of late-summer flavor. It was all so well-balanced and thoughtful. One thing I loved: you can watch the chefs at work. The open kitchen adds an energetic, almost theatrical feel to the night — you’re watching art happen in real time. The atmosphere is definitely lively — expect a noisy dining room with close seating. It’s part of the charm, but something to be aware of if you’re looking for quiet conversation. Another important note: the menu changes often, and modifications aren’t allowed on cocktails or menu items. I actually respect that — they make everything in-house, from their cocktail syrups to the sauces, so there’s a strong sense of integrity in what they serve. But if you’re picky or have specific needs, it’s something to know ahead of time. And finally — the women’s bathroom. Yes, it deserves its own paragraph. The walls are adorned with Shel Silverstein’s “The Thinker of Tender Thoughts”, expressed in whimsical sketches that gradually transform a man’s head into a bouquet of flowers. The floral decals along the ceiling and the rustic wood vanity mirror give it a personal, poetic feel. I had to stop and take photos. It’s that thoughtful. If you’re in Oak Bluffs and want a meal that feeds both your appetite and your imagination, Red Cat Kitchen should be on your list. Just come ready for a full sensory experience — noise, flavor, artistry, and all.

Excellent, excellent meal, the best we've had in Martha's Vineyard! The risotto was delicious, the brussel sprouts were fantastic. We had the halibut, the salmon, the pasta, all were really great. Really tasty cocktails as well. The service was awesome, the chef is a really cool and the inside has a nice casual vibe. If you come for drinks, check out the nook with the couch seats by the bar!

Our reservation for 8 people was at 7:30 on Wednesday 6/25/25. They required a credit card to make the on line reservation and stated a 30.00 no- show fee. We arrived at 7:20 and were seated promptly. Our server greeted us and was friendly and helpful. We ordered drinks. My drink arrived incorrectly, not as I had asked for it. The server noted the error but did not offer to correct it. She returned a few minutes later and I asked that she please bring me the correct drink. She attempted to add an additional drink to my order made Advised her , “No”, I would like this drink returned and made as I requested. She took the drink back and returned the drink to me the same as it was originally. That was not acceptable. She took the second attempt back and brought me the drink correctly. At the conclusion they attempted to charge me for the incorrect drink. They are known for their fried chicken. That was one of the recommended dishes at Red Cat. I disagree. The chicken was good but certainly not worth the asking price. 40.00 for a mediocre breast of fried chicken with mashed potatoes is certainly not up to my expectations of a fine dining experience. The Brussels sprouts were great. The bluefish was very good. Although I didn’t eat any , others very much enjoyed the steak. Overall not worth the price of the meal. Additionally we were served dinner at 8:55 for our 7:30 reservation on a Wednesday evening Generally underwhelming

While in Martha’s Vineyard I ate here, this was my first time having mussels out of the shell in a tomato broth vs the usual garlic/butter wine combo. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect.
Yolanda D — Google review
Be aware that the menu is always changing so what you see here isn’t what you will get in restaurant. We started with the heirloom tomato, which was $19 for three slices, and chowder. Both were fine, but nothing to get excited about. We then shared the fried chicken as our entree. The fried chicken was a bit overcooked, the batter had a slight burnt taste, and some parts of the chicken were very dry. However, the accompanying sweet potato was very overcooked, hard as a rock and completely inedible. We mentioned this to the waitress that cleared our table and all we received was a blank stare. We didn’t expect to be comped or have the kitchen remake, but we do expect acknowledgement and an apology. Nothing special about the atmosphere. The service gets two stars because our main waiter, Lewis, did a good job, but gets knocked down by the waitress’ lack of recognition. Overall, the experience did not meet our expectations based upon the star rating on resy, reviews in google and yelp.

The weather was amazing and we sat out in the deck. Our server, Katie, was delightful. Very informative, professional and welcoming. The food was over the top delicious. Hubby started with a Smoked Blackberry Old Fashion. We had the Smoked Pork Belly with tomato jam and polenta to start. So yummy. I had the salmon and hubby had the Sushi Grade Tuna. Our sides that we shared were both amazing. The Truffle Dauphinoise Potatoes were to die for! Brussels spouts were also delish. We passed on dessert only because we were stuffed. We will be going back before the end of our stay highly recommend.

Came here alone for dinner just before 8 and was sat right away. Service was friendly and I was impressed by my servers knowledge of the different types of oysters on offer. She was also knowledgeable about allergies so I was confident ordering a fully gluten free meal including oysters, steak au poivre, mashed potatoes and jalapeno creamed corn.

I arrived at 8:00p and the place was really packed. It was a mad house! Not an enjoyable dining atmosphere for the price. Party of 1 so I ate at the bar. Ordered octopus and skirt steak (medium). Octopus was extremely overcooked (felt like leather) and my skirt steak was cooked from a range of burnt to rare 😳 (see photo). Initial thought was to return when I cut into the burnt end but the bartender informed me that its usually well-done on the ends and medium in the middle. A cut mid-middle was medium so I digressed, however the opposite end of my steak was rare 😳! Each cut of my steak became the running joke for the couple next to me. Complete contrast in food and service from years past. Also no longer accepts Amex (which they do not make you aware of until after you have dined 🤦🏾‍♀️).

A very funky place with all sorts of nostalgia on the walls. The food is very authentic Caribbean, tasty, can be spicy, and BIG portions. Almost no need for appetizers because most people will take home the leftovers of their main dish. Definitely, we have to go back and try a dozen other dishes.

We got the pineapple glazed ribs (so yummy) which came with collards and corn bread. The collards were lacking flavor and were a bit bitter, and the corn bread has jalapeño bits in it, which would be nice if you like that but I’m not a fan of jalapeño flavor. We got the conch chowder as well which was more like a stew but it was delicious. For dessert the chocolate rum cake, which was rich and boozy (perfect rum cake)
Traci A — Google review
Ordered some food here during the MVAAFF and it was okay (overpriced and kinda bland) but they failed to tell us that there was already food available for festival guests which turned out to be significantly better that the cod fritters I had ordered. The fish was light and flaky, rice was well cooked and seasoned and the chicken was flavorful. Overall the plate saved the rating. The bartender ended up calling last call early cause she got annoyed and yelled at a customer so that was weird, especially for an event. Not sure if I'd return.

My friends and I went on a girls trip to Martha’s Vineyard the weekend before Memorial Day and this restaurant did not disappoint. From the service, to the atmosphere, to the food everything was outstanding! And the cocktails were out of this world! One of my friends and I started with the grilled octopus and then she got the salmon dish. The rest of us had the roasted half chicken. Everything was great! I was too full for dessert, but one of the girls got the cookies and milkshakes, and another friend got the Frutta Di Bosca which was a chocolate tart shell with vanilla sauce and berries. The desserts were divine. As we left the restaurant, every single staff member said goodbye to us. Our waiter was the BEST, Top-notch service.

Highly trained and attentive service staff. The cocktails were definitely a highlight with subtle flavors and presentation. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and watermelon and feta salad as starters. The shrimp were healthy and flavorful and the feta salad had a generous portion of cheese which paired well with the balsamic glaze. Our courses came out of the kitchen very quickly! For our main course, I got the ossobuco. The flavor was very strong and savory, like a winter beef stew. The cavatelli was lightly baked which gave it a nice crunch. My wife ordered the veal Parmesan and it was cooked to perfection. The plate it was served on was the size of a pizza lol. The portion was so massive that we ended up finishing it for lunch and breakfast the next day! Our waiter Luke was so attentive and even treated us to shots of limoncello (as it is our honeymoon!) Overall, I would say the food and service lives up to the reputation and id recommend Atlantic the next time you have something to celebrate.

I decided to have a 4th of July dinner out with mom at one of our favorite fancy spots, The Atlantic Fish & Chop House in Edgartown. They had a lamb dish 2 seasons ago that I still dream about. We had some charbroiled oysters, a lobsters arugula salad, and some osso bucco. Everything was delicious 😋 except the pasta was a bit overdone (it was crunchy). I had a perfectly made Hugo Spritz to wash it down.
Morgan F — Google review
Let me start with the positive, Vanya the hostess is amazing😍, she went above and beyond for us and we really appreciate that. We really wanted to check out the Atlantic because we heard Michelle Obama was there and that they had the best food for special occasions. My meal was absolutely delicious, I really enjoyed the seasonings and found the meal unique and appetizing! We went for my bday and my girlfriend was treating me. She doesn't eat meat or cheese and asked for salmon, the waitress recommended the salad and to then add the salmon, my girlfriend asked what the additional cost will be and was told "not much higher than the original meal which was $42" when the bill came the cost of the salmon alone was $40 in addition to cost of salad which was $24 so my girlfriend had to pay $64 for a salad due to miscommunication. I think it's extremely important to communicate so people have options . I know its an upscale restaurant but a lot of working class people may want to come and just celebrate special occasions and little things like this make a difference. This why I am giving 4 out of 5 stars.

Behind the Bookstore is an absolute gem - tucked away and full of charm. Everything here is made in-house, and you can taste the difference in every bite. The fresh-baked pastries and bread are next level - flaky, warm, and wildly satisfying. We had a hard time choosing just one, so naturally we didn’t. The drinks are also spot on - well-crafted and balanced, whether you’re going for a latte or something a little stronger. The vibe is relaxed but elevated, and it’s the kind of place you want to linger. A must-visit if you’re in Edgartown looking for a caffeine boost.

This was nice. I came here for a nice read while enjoying my coffee and breakfast. I ordered a catado coffee and a cold brew with a breakfast order of Shakshuka. The atmosphere was very relaxing in a very busy Cafe. The coffee was spot on, however the eggs in the Shakshuka was overcooked. I asked one of the staff if they could remake the order for the eggs to be runny and they immediately followed through with kindness. The 2nd time came back extremely mouthwatering with great flavors! The staff did circle around and check on me to see how it came out again and apologise. Thanks so much for the wonderful service! Will be back again!

This restaurant is a great spot to watch the boats and ferry to Chappy. We started out with a berry lemonade drink which was very refreshing and delicious. We had the lobster dip app which came with warm pita chips. The dip itself was loaded with fresh lobster and was mouth watering spectacular. I ordered lobster roll in butter accompanied with fries. The lobster was sweet and tender as it should be. It was heavenly good. Our waitress was smiling, friendly and just an all around great waitress. She checked back with us often and we appreciated her efforts.

Arrived at 6:00 pm on a cloudy Wednesday evening and were seated upstairs in the open air seating. Wonderful views over the harbor and you can watch the Chappy ferry on its constant back and forth journey. Service was good. The lobster roll was served with fries and had lots of chunk lobster – seemed to be a good value. The Clam Chowder had a good flavor and was very creamy. The fried shrimp platter was okay, but seemed a bit overpriced for the amount of shrimp. The winner was the lobster dip appetizer, served with lots of crispy pita bread. We also loved the Ocean Berry Booze cocktail. Would go back for the dip, cocktail and the great views. Outside seating was very full when we left around 7:30 pm.

I’m not sure why the reviews are poor. The service is good. The large deck offers nice views. The food is pretty solid for a place that it doesn’t have to be. We ordered raw oysters 3.5/5 (small), shrimp cocktail 4/5, Caesar salad 4/5, warm buttered lobster roll 4/5, PAN ROASTED MISO SALMON 5/5, and Boston cream pie 3/5 (dry). Good beer, wine, and cocktail options.

A perfect experience. I couldn't ask for anything to be better. Our server, Elizabeth, was excellent and gave us great recommendations for food on the menu and places on the island! She was also amazing about my food restrictions. The drinks were delicious, the views are beautiful, the music was great, the food was amazing and came out so quickly. I honestly have waited longer for Taco Bell then we waited for our food. I was shocked when it came out and was worried maybe it wouldn't be good but I was so wrong. This may be one of the best places I've been.

Very nice place, if you catch a good weather and get a seat outside, the view is incredible. The food was good, not amazing. A little bit over priced but still worth the experience.

Had a good lunch at this place. We enjoyed the stuffed quahog, lobster and shrimp tacos, the food was tasty. Service was also very friendly. Lovely place to sit overlooking the water. Lobster well priced.

Great food, great service and great location. Enjoyed the lobster roll and the fisherman's platter. Loved it so much we went twice in the same week!
John G — Google review
The location especially outdoors on the top level is great. Staff is friendly and attentive. Had the fish and chips. Only came with one fish which is not a lot for the price. The fries were seasoned well and cripsy; very good. Sadly the fish was subpar. The meat was good but the batter was soggy and chewy. Couldn't get a clean cut and basically just ate the meat inside. All that was left was the rubbery batter that stayed together like a skin. Would prefer it to be more crunchy.

Among the Flowers Cafe is a popular spot located on Edgartown's Main Street, offering a variety of breakfast and comfort-food dinner options. The cafe features a charming patio where patrons can enjoy their meals while taking in the fresh air. Known for its smoothies, salads, and sandwiches, Among the Flowers Cafe also caters to those with dietary restrictions by offering gluten-free bread options and veggie-focused dishes. Another wonderful experience. We've been coming here every time we visit MV. Always great food, great service. Thank you again!

Cute breakfast/lunch spot in Edgartown. Ordered at the outside window and waiting around 5-10 minutes for my order to be ready. I had the morning breakfast bowl which was good but $15 for a Greek yogurt and granola bowl with fruit is a little cray. Granola was also more akin to a shredded wheat cereal than a traditional granola. Would try again but would probably not get the yogurt bowl.

Best breakfast/lunch spot on MV!! Downtown Edgartown near the waterfront, this place has the most delicious and freshest food. Great sandwiches and breakfast dishes along with amazing smoothies like the Peanut Butter Perk! Must go if you’re on MV.

It’s a cute cafe. It’s a perfect place to enjoy breakfast on their patio if the weather cooperates. Coupled with the fact that they aren’t that many competent breakfast eateries nearby, this cafe naturally becomes the best breakfast cafe. Service can be excruciatingly slow at times, but it’s pretty norm for the island. Menu is somewhat extensive, but I find their quiche to be most outstanding.

Nantucket Memorial Airport-ACK is the gateway to this picturesque island, located just 30 miles off the coast of Massachusetts. The island, once a major whaling hub, boasts a charming cobblestoned town designated as a National Historic District. With over 800 buildings dating back to before the Civil War, Nantucket exudes history and laid-back vibes.
We flew in on a TBM from PA. Wind put a few bumps in approach. Beautiful day. Cool and dry. Flew in for business so we didn't get off of the airport. FBO and employees are very courteous and professional. Very clean and two stories high. Wifi, snacks and beverages available. FBO has two busses, golf carts and carts for luggage. There are taxis, lyft, uber and car rentals. Airport is very busy between June and August.

It’s really not great. It looks like a cute airport, until you go past security and realize how few amenities there are. There is a restaurant, but only before security. There is only one small indoor waiting room, and it gets packed. There is also a tent outside, but it doesn’t have much seating, and a very overpriced concession stand. I understand that it’s a small space that cannot expand, but I think they used the space poorly.

I had the pleasure of visiting this airport one time. It is such a beautiful place and a moment and time I’ll never forget! They say Virginia is for lovers… but I’ll have to say Nantucket is for lovers. I felt the romance in the air as soon as I got off the plane. And I got my first engine photo here! Some say California dreaming…. Well I’m Nantucket dreaming! #takemeback #nostalgia

The new arrival pickup rules are atrocious and flat out dangerous. Passengers have to lug their bags across the drive thru lanes into a very busy parking lot where there is no place provided to stand and wait for your pickup. Given all the sophistication and quality of the airport, the new arrival rules are mind boggling.
Pano A — Google review
I had a terrible experience here. Brought my daughter to the airport for her flight home. She checked in the night before online and had one piece of luggage to tag and drop off at the counter. We were there an hour before her flight, which was delayed, and they would NOT take her bag. Other bags for her flight were right there behind the counter and had not yet been loaded on the belt to go outside. We were told she had to be there 45 mins before the ORIGINAL departure time in order to get a bag tag. Why would anyone go to the airport for the original departure time when the flight was delayed and she was checked in? I spoke with two different people at the counter at American airlines and they absolutely refused to help us. We were told the only way she could take her bag is if she rebooked her flight, which I assume would have involved additional fees, and she was anxious to get home for pets and other reasons so this was not feasible. We said goodbye and she went through security and flew home without her bag. I have traveled all over the world and have NEVER had this issue, ever. Now I have to pay hundreds of dollars to ship her bag across the country. That day her flight was further delayed and left an hour and a half after the original scheduled time. This problem could have been easily solved if the staff at this airport had chosen to be kind and take the damn bag.

Smallest airport that I have been to. Only one security checkpoint. I don't think they have TSA precheck here, but the lines move quickly. You can see the parking lot from the boarding area. It can get super cramped in the small waiting room. They have a car rental nearby and an area for rideshare pickup. The shuttles from town go to and from and it was convenient.

I've flown in, I've flown out. They've never lost my luggage. Everyone has been very nice and helpful. I do not recommend the french fries

Worst customer service ever at a Delta counter. She showed no care or concern for our situation. Everytime we asked a question she had an attitude and was unhelpful. When our interaction was over she did not say have a good day or sorry about the inconvenience it was just "great byyeee" and she walked away.

Best way to get to the Cape for a beach day!! Fly to PVC! Friendly general aviation airport in the tip of the Cape! Short enough runway that there are no jets, but plenty long enough for Cape Air for regularly scheduled flights to Boston and beyond. Walk over the dune to the beach or bring your bike and ride on the bike trail towards town. The airport is also serviced by regularly schedule busses to get into Town for a couple bucks, and also taxis and rental cars available. Enjoy 5he Cape!!

Martha's Vineyard Airport (MVY)

Regional airport
Martha's Vineyard Airport (MVY) serves as the gateway to this popular vacation destination on America's East Coast. The island is a favorite summer retreat for both celebrities and regular travelers, offering beautiful beaches, pristine woodlands, and New England charm. Visitors can enjoy beach days, peaceful walks through the woods, and fabulous Airbnb rentals. Despite being known as an expensive destination, there are ways to save money while still enjoying all that Martha's Vineyard has to offer.
The airport is clean, organized, and well-staffed. The staff is knowledgeable and quick to respond to requests like fuel and tie downs. Our pleasant airport arrival really set a nice relaxed tone for our outing so, thanks!

This airport is tiny and bursting at the seams at high tourists time. TSA definitely screws you around, more than any other airport I've flown. You wait on the tarmac in August under a great white tent with benches, Port o potties, chips, and a large fan. Not impressive 😕.

The people working at the FBO are truly fantastic! I called in with a super odd request, but the person their was committed to helping me. Even though it took a couple days to get the right answer, she still kept me in mind. The airport ops people I met were also both fantastic and very hospitable. As someone who works in airport ops myself, I can safely say these employees set a gold standard for customer service and MVY is lucky to have them.

JetBlue nightmare… they changed flight time with such short notice that over 20 people lost their flight. Three babies and one toddler were left behind with their families and friends with no support or understanding by the JetBlue staff. No accommodation was offered when a night here can be around $700 per room easily. Flight got delayed from 4.57pm to 7.50pm. We were told at 3pm so we decided to stay in Edgartown with our little 2 year old and 91 year old great grandmother and changed our taxi booking. Then we suddenly got an email update at 5pm saying to be in the airport by 5.20 because flight departure had changed to 5.50. We rushed into the first taxi we found and while the airplane was still on the ground they decided to leave the 20 passengers behind (small babies and elderly included). We were not the only ones and it was very poorly handled by the elder lady working at JetBlue that day. I would not recommend this airline or airport destination if you not ready to either stay in the airport for long hours until they get organized with their timelines or miss a flight and deal with all the stress that creates. The staff will treat you like it’s your fault when the reality is that they DO NOT COMMUNICATE effectively and leave customers behind. If you have your own private jet I guess it’s best ;)

If you want your belongings destroyed and to be treated like you’re the problem, this airport security is perfect for you. On 9/24 at 9:30am, the girl at the checkpoint managed to combine arrogance, ignorance, and carelessness all at once. I told her clearly that Polaroid photos cannot go through the scanner. She pretended not to understand, pointed at a box as if it was a safe option, and then sent them straight through the machine, instantly ruining $100 worth of photos.
Milica M — Google review
Way too small of an airport for the amount of travelers. Getting through security even with precheck takes forever. Then you encounter an outside tent for the gate with all airlines forcing their passengers through it. Could not understand anything over the PA system. I felt like I was in a foreign country.

Was a really great vibes and atmosphere, topped off by our awesome bartender Courtney. She is definitely an artist didn't even get flustered by the high volume of orders she had to be filling. My wife has the chicken Milanese absolutely delicious 😋 I had the ribs because I just can't pass it up... the meat did fall off the bone truly succulent, however the salt to paprika ratio was a bit too high. All and all a great experience looking fwd to being back and giving those ribs another go!

rented this car from budget first let me say the customer service was horrible. 2nd the car was disgusting when I picked it up. full of dog hair. I dont think they even cleaned the car before they rented it again and then the charge me 50.00 additional dollars for gas when it was just below a full tank and when I tried to discuss this with the service rep she wouldn't here a word I had to say she just kept saying its in the contract. Did not have any regard for me as a customer. I work in the customer service field and it is appauling to me the service and manners that workers have. You may expect some of this from the younger generation but in adults who should know better but cant be bothered it is even more appauling. I have no other words other than I will never use your company again and will make sure I get this out there to others. You can thank your employees for the bad review. I will also be sure to post this on yelp as well.

Norwood Memorial Airport

I had fun getting on a helicopter from this airport!
Alex L — Google review
This airport loves flying right over the town when they don’t have to. They blame it on wind direction, except they do it when they feel like it regardless of “wind direction”. The airport is basically controlled by the flight schools. This airport has also been “fixing” a runway for over two years…hence their “need” to fly and land several feet over neighboring homes not on flight path, It’s only a matter of time until a plane ends up through someone’s roof.

Norwood Memorial Airport, otherwise known as KOWD is a lovely place. They have a restaurant on site(Taso’s).m, which always had great food and service. The FBO is great with friendly employees and some of the best popcorn I ever had. There is a bathroom right in the FBO and a bathroom upstairs if it is open by chance. Avis Rent a car is located there too. Always the area has been clean and the airport is super secure. I got to visit the tower years ago and the people in the tower were professionals and very accommodating to new students. There is now a new kids playground on the grounds outside with free binoculars. If your flying to Boston using KOWD to me would be a better and cheaper option the KBED to the NorthWestish of the city. Also there are a few hotels nearby. Plenty of parking in the lot out front. Although the spots are a little tight. FBO is great.

I’ve been flying in and out of OWD since I was a teen. Like then it was a sleepy little strip with no control tower. Now, it’s a vibrant airport with excellent facilities and lots of interesting aircraft action. I’m training to be a helicopter pilot and I am quite happy with blue Hill helicopter. They offer helicopter tours of the Boston area in their Robinson R44 helicopters. There is another helicopter operation on the field as well Speaking of helicopters, about three years ago helicopters from Nord began to come flapping over my house, apparently training pilots. They made a racket. I called the OWD manager and the over flights stopped instantly. So, OWD seems to be a well run airport. If one is just interested in watching aircraft operations there’s a very pleasant open hill in the middle of the action. This hill, by the terminal building, has picnic tables and benches. If one is flying into the Boston area privately, 0WD is an excellent choice for basing. Interstate Highway 95 is five minutes away and Boston itself is roughly half an hour away by either hi 93 north or the Massachusetts Turnpike, I – 90 both connected with Guy 95. Another reviewer slammed the SVO flightline for improperly fueling his aircraft. That was probably the mistake of a single thoughtless ramp Boy. There is a pilot shop. From all standpoints, this is an excellent airport to fly in or out of on Boston area business or pleasure. Or just do visit, as I’ve noted above. Massachusetts State Route One, a major artery, is two minutes from the airport. There are commuter rail facilities in the town of Norwood just to the west. I recommend the airport unreservedly.

This is my local airport and I love it. There are 2 FBOs, 4 flight schools, and a large parking lot. The nearby restaurant is Greek and they have an ice cream window in the summer. There are benches for plane spotting and a playground, and many families have picnics here in nice weather. Bring your young aviators to encourage them - and if you see me walking around, come say Hi!
Pamela R — Google review
Don't land at KOWD. Flight Level FBO will rip you off. We landed from NJ, asked for 10 gallons of 100LL in our C172. We specifically asked for 5 in each wing. Instead, they filled it all in one wing, creating an imbalance in the aircraft. The only way around it was to purchase an extra 10 gallons at the outrageous rate of $5.88 per gallon. Stay away.'

Cape Cod Gateway Airport

Regional airport
Airport
Cape Cod Gateway Airport, also known as HYA, is nestled in the bustling commercial hub of Hyannis, which serves as a gateway to the picturesque Cape Cod region. This charming airport offers a refreshing alternative to the chaos of larger airports found in major cities like New York. With its clean and quiet atmosphere, travelers can enjoy a more relaxed experience while waiting for their flights. During my visit, I was pleasantly surprised by how uncrowded it felt—almost like having your own private terminal!
How much do I love a teeny tiny airport! The Uber driver said you can get here 10 min B4 your flight and still get on. Ok I don't believe that since they do close the door and 8f you have to check luggage you still need to leave a tiny bit of time for that BUT that being said everything took about 8 min. Fabulous! And that $73 Jet Blue flight from the Cape to JFK, divine.

What nice airport. Tiny but clean and makes life a lot easier. Just wish that they had a better option for food, unfortunately the place there have very basic stuff and they don't even look fresh. But still a very convenient location, nice staff and fast TSA screening. The only thing is that JETBLUE should have better airplanes, I got really old and DIRTY planes either on my way to NY as on my way back to Hyannis.

Simple, clean and during my visit, almost empty! So vastly different from the insanity of the major airports I've spent my time in at NYC. A good less busy option if you need to get up to Cape Cod (using a car the rest of the way) if you don't want to chance missing a fast Ferry from Boston to Provincetown. Note: deplaning involved those steep outdoor ramps and walking along the tarmac between cones, likely a challenge for anyone with a wide wheelchair, otherwise okay and pretty accessible.

Newport State Airport (UUU)

Airport
Newport State Airport (UUU) is a charming gateway for travelers heading to the picturesque coastal city of Newport, Rhode Island. While many visitors opt to fly into Providence and drive south, UUU offers its own unique charm with a welcoming Fixed Base Operator (FBO). Upon arrival, you might find friendly local pilots eager to assist you in securing a tie-down spot or even offering a ride into town.
Dropped one of my cars off for a Turo rental. Guy at the desk was very helpful. Thanks for your help!
LEXGUY — Google review
July 2017. The FBO is very nice. Stopped overnight and was immediately greeted by two local pilots that offered help finding a tie down spot and then a ride into town. October 2023 update. Just as nice as I remembered it but the only downside is that the terminal is locked up at night. Seems like a GA airport would know to provide some kind of after hours access. The ramp area has just been re-surfaced and overhauled but parking is still tight with lots of local being assigned paid tie down areas. Travelers park in the spots farthest away from the terminal. Not sure why HERTZ is advertising that they provide service here as I did not see any sign of a crew nor rental car in the terminal. The manager was helpful and gave me a ride to the hotel and I must say that even though the State runs the place and charges some kind of fee to travelers like myself I did not mind the extra cost.

Plymouth Municipal Airport, often referred to as PYM, is a charming little airport primarily catering to private flights and routes heading towards Cape Cod. One of its standout features is a delightful café located right on the tarmac, where visitors can enjoy delicious breakfast or lunch while watching planes take off and land—a perfect spot for families, especially those with toddlers who are fascinated by aviation. The airfield itself is well-kept, boasting a new operations building that enhances the overall experience.

The people who own this airport are terrible. They seem to have little to no control over people who fly out of this airport. Planes fly way too low over residential areas before 8:00 am and well past 10:00pm creating horrible noise pollution in this community.
