Inubosaki Lighthouse, a late 19th-century tower made of domestic bricks, stands as a symbol of sightseeing in Choshi. This chalky white Western-style lighthouse offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from its top, making it a must-see attraction. Designed by English architect Richard Henry Brunton, this historic and architectural monument has been designated as an Important Cultural Property and is one of only 16 in Japan.
Cash only at the ticket counter 😶 Climbing 99 steps up the stairs wasn't really challenging, but the wind was so strong that I almost dropped my phone from the balcony (and it's Nokia). I'm so honoured to have saved humanity once 😎 There's a cottage within the premise with a foghorn in place. Indeed, it sounds more like an air raid siren.
P. C — Google review
Nice view from the top and from around the lighthouse. There is a way to the rocky beach near the lighthouse, which is highly recommended.
Salman S — Google review
Beautiful place to see the pacific ocean, 99 steps climb needed if you want to get up of the lighthouse. Lots of people but I did not need to wait. There was a nice cafe, souvenir shop, some restaurants and a shack selling bbq seafood. They have 2 small museums to showcase the history of light house, how lighthouses work and various lighthouse across japan.
Ang C — Google review
Visiting, climbing, and taking photos in front of a lighthouse was one of my wishlists. And it came true at Inobusaki Lighthouse. The endless ocean, clear skies, a cool cafe, accompanied by delicious coffee and a slice of cake. This was a real healing and charming holiday.
Rose A — Google review
The place is very attractive. In order to climb to the top of the lighthouse, you need to use the stairs, that is, there is no elevator. At the top of the lighthouse there is a wonderful view of the ocean and the promenade. The only thing is a strong wind. Near the swing there is a cafe and a place for souvenirs. There is a miniature version of the customs officer with whom you can take a picture. On the 1st floor of the pendulum, there is a small museum that tells the story of its creation, there are models of ships.
Iryna V — Google review
Superb place to visit for a one day trip. Fees : 300 for adults, free for kids It’s a wonderful place to visit with rocky beach and a very small sandy beach. View is amazing . You need to climb around 106 reps to each ti the top of the light house, last few steps are very narrow. Food area near is good and reasonable, we ate at key cafe . Car parking is free. We went by Choshi line
Mugdha G — Google review
It’s very cooling up the lighthouse. It’s a nice view up there and I enjoyed the breeze. There’s no elevator up, so we have to climb 99 steps, which I feel was fine. The beach was nice too. We saw crabs and other creatures. Had fun exploring the beach.
Tawtan — Google review
Beautiful stop and great place to grab a beer after a long day of bike riding! It's a busy location though so expect a crowd. If you can find a bench or a soft spot on the ground you can take in the sights and the fresh ocean air. The lighthouse is a historic location and a great place to take some photos. Recommended stop for cyclists in the area.

Inubōsaki is a picturesque location that features a rugged headland with an 1874 lighthouse and windswept coastal trails. It's renowned for its stunning sunrise views. Aside from the lighthouse, there's also the Inubow Terasu Terrace which comprises of a family restaurant (Seaside Terrace), nice bakery (Ohana), local craft beer stall, and second-floor shops selling various local products like plates, cups, glasses, magnets, etc.
Nice location. Very beautiful You can see natural history of the earth through the sedimentary rock.

This is lighthouse at Cape Inubozaki is enchanting- it is a national heritage structure and the museum has all details on the operational part of the lighthouse since the beginning of the; views from the top of the lighthouse is mind blowing- you get a 360 degree view of the Pacific Ocean and also boasts of the first sunrise

Very relaxing area. I've been here three times this year. You can take a walk or sit by the shore. I think pets are allowed as well. It's ¥200-300 yen to go on the lighthouse to view. You have to go up narrow stairs, when I went up the lighthouse it was super windy and raining not like in the pictures. It was fun for me. No time limit after you first enter.
Jada M — Google review
You can climb the lighthouse. You can enjoy a panoramic view of the sea and Choshi. It is a little scary because it is so high, but the view is beautiful. There is also an exhibition room.

Wosse 21 is a multifaceted destination that includes the Choshi Port Tower, offering visitors a stunning panoramic view of the Choshi Fishing Port and its surroundings. The tower's observation room provides an excellent vantage point to admire the Pacific Ocean, fishing boats, and the picturesque Tone River estuary. Adjacent to the tower is Wosse 21 Fish Market, where numerous fish shops compete for visitors' attention.
Not bad to buy some fish for souvenirs. Has plenty of parking slot and many motorcyclists were enjoying the scenery.

My wife and I stopped by for lunch and were impressed from start to finish. Located right by the fish market, it offers that unmistakable fresh-from-the-sea experience with a casual, local vibe. We ordered the kaisen-don, loaded with buttery tuna, shrimp, salmon, anago, and ikura over perfectly seasoned rice—each bite was fresh and flavorful. The fried oysters were crisp and juicy, complemented perfectly by tartar sauce and cabbage. Service was friendly and efficient, and everything arrived quickly. Excellent seafood, fair prices, and authentic atmosphere—exactly what you hope for at a market-side restaurant.
Jason H — Google review
Here is the one of the most famous local fish market around Tokyo area. The location is vey good, and is very next to the port. So you can buy fresh Tuna, other local fish and shells. What I reccomend the most is, soy sources. You can buy some local SPECIAL versions. It will take approximately 2 hours' from central part of Tokyo. As it's a bit far from Tokyo area, one star minus.
T O — Google review
The seafood restaurant upstair (レストランうおっせ) is excellent. High quality, inexpensive and a sea view. It is in another small building right outside the seafood market. Those small restaurants inside the seafood market on ground floor are too expensive.
M F — Google review
A great fish market and souvenir shops to stop by on your way back to Tokyo after a weekend stay, pick up large chunks of tuna and other fish at great prices. They'll pack in styrofoam with ice for you, and even ship if you don't have a car.

Choshi Port Tower is a modern twin-towered glass building offering panoramic 360-degree views of the bustling fishing port. The tower also features an exhibition area. In the vicinity, Ishigami Sake Brewery, established in 1844, boasts two historic stone warehouses designated as tangible cultural properties. The brewery's signature junmai sake, Choshi no Homare, is renowned for its full-bodied flavor with a hint of spiciness.
I came here for the All Japan Tower's stamp rally. This was very far in general and I didn't know if I was going to commit. Once at the station, I had to take a taxi (just under 2000 yen) to get here and I walked to Motochoshi station (Choshi Electric railway). Anyways, greeted by friendly staff! 2 memorial stamps on the bottom floor. 88 anime locations stamp and multilayer stamp at the top. Gorgeous view on a nice day.
Roger A — Google review
Believe or not, this is actually a nice sightseeing spot in the area. You can enjoy a 360° grandeur view from the area’s highest point, which is high enough to be awed especially around sunset time. The admission is just 420yen. What is pity are, though the staff are quite friendly and helpful, the opening hours are pretty limited and some lack of willingness for sightseeing business expansion. The entry cutoff at 5:00pm and get closed at 5:30 on my visit in January. There was no eatery open by the late afternoon even without a vending machine in the observatory, also, sorry to say the souvenir space on GF was rather mediocre, all while this unique shaped cute tower is standing as if being alone shiny but for waste. Maybe I should understand since there have been lots of reasons like being understaffed, budget issues or unsuccessful businesses history, putting aside bankrupt-free bureaucratic rigidity… but I will visit here again another time soon at peak hours on a holiday.

This is port tower and nice view point to see the port and see. Also you can see the city. I really liked it. It’s 57mt high. I used the binocular there and watched the birds flying over the sea. It was really amazing. For people who have been to Tokyo tower and skytree, this will be small. But you can watch once for the sea view. You can focus the ships

Enpuku-ji is a Buddhist temple located in Choshi, Japan. Founded by the monk Kukai in the ninth century, it is a popular destination for Buddhist pilgrimages. The temple features a splendid five-storied pagoda and offers nice views of the town and sky. Visitors can enter the main hall to pray and order goshuin, while also having the opportunity to see and touch the Kannon statue up close.
The weather was nice so I could take good pictures. The parking lot is huge.

They have a beautiful Goshuin, Omikuji, amulets souvenirs etc. If you have time, excursions nearby: Tunnel of love (between Kannon/Motochoshi stations). Inubosaki lighthouse. (Translated by Google) A local told me that Choshi is synonymous with Kannon, so I visited for the first time. I've never seen so many ceiling paintings before. Temple ceilings are all unique, but you can lie down on the tatami mats and gaze upon them carefully. Feel free to immerse yourself in the temple's unique atmosphere. I'd like to say Kannon, but what was particularly great was the view of the Tone River from the main hall. I wasn't expecting to be able to see the Tone River and cityscape while admiring the five-story pagoda, so I was really impressed. Temples can be slippery in the rain, so be careful. There were a lot of mosquitoes, probably because of the ginkgo trees. I wish I'd taken some mosquito protection. Visitors may receive a limited number of gifts from the temple at the reception desk... If you've read this review, be sure to ask. Maybe your luck will skyrocket. I managed to complete my business trip safely. Attitude is important. That's why I'd like to visit local power spots whenever time allows. Thank you for all your help. Finally, I think first-time visitors may have trouble finding parking. There's a dedicated parking lot for the temple facing the street, so please park there and pay your respects. After worshiping, it's said that eating the white and black bean paste Imagawayaki (sweet bean syrup) at the back will bring you a sudden surge of luck. The toilet god is waiting for you when you open the door to the restroom. You'll be disappointed if you overthink it, so if you want to stop by the restroom, please do so. Choshi was apparently an isolated island long ago, and you can learn about its historical background, such as how it rose over the years. You can experience things you never even noticed in textbooks. There's apparently a bullet hole near the left foot, which is placed outside, but I couldn't find it. It seems that the temple was burned to the ground during the war. If you're feeling excited about visiting Iinuma Kannon, which still bears the scars of war, be sure to stop by. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, and Inubo Lighthouse is only about a 15-minute drive away. I wonder when I'll be able to come back next time. (Translated by Google) I remember it opened in 1991 along with the adjacent tower. The facility is undeniably old, and it has the feel of a drive-in from the end of the Showa period of high economic growth rather than the Heisei period. On the second floor, there is only a staircase to the restaurant. It is clean, but it gives the impression of a dilapidated restaurant in a tourist spot. This time, I visited on a Saturday at the end of June to try the early plum sardines of "Choshi Meshi." (Apparently, the locals call them "Iriume Iwashi" rather than "Nyuubai"). The Asahi Shimbun had just reported a comment from a fishery official saying, "This year, we have landed more sardines than we have in several years, so please come to Choshi to try them." However, the sardine menu was sold out before 12 o'clock. If they had just said something like "I'm sorry you came all this way and were looking forward to it," it would have been a different impression, but they just said "We're done" in a cold manner (bitter smile). They had taken the trouble to put up posters and handwritten recommendations in front of the store, so what a shame... This lack of hospitality is a symbol of a declining city. The menu we all ordered instead was also a bit lacking. The fried prawns were stretched out and covered in batter. Only three pieces of deep-fried horse mackerel cost over 800 yen. They were limp and the color was like Tatsuta-age. Was it pre-fried? Only the fried horse mackerel nare-roe was unusual and reasonably tasty. The sashimi in the seafood bowl was a bit fishy, and the rice in the set meal was a bit dry and a bit scary. The miso soup had a clam flavor but almost no toppings (like the free miso soup from Matsu◯ before). My companion left the fried shrimp and put rice in the miso soup, making it into Nekomamma, and washed it down. Payment methods are cash and PayPay. Popular restaurants in the city and port area are difficult to go to because they are small, there are long lines, and there is no smoking area, so I have always used this restaurant when having lunch in Choshi because I could relax without waiting. However, this seems to be causing not only this restaurant and Uosse 21 (there are more vacant stores every time I visit...), but also the city of Choshi itself to become increasingly deserted as a tourist destination. (Gyokeikan has closed down, and Select Market's parking lot has moved away and the restaurants have closed.) Choshi is a city with a long history and plenty of things to see, but JR express trains have been cut down in frequency, and it's an hour away from the nearest highway interchange. I'd like to see it bounce back somehow, but if things continue like this, it feels like a vicious cycle.

(Translated by Google) This has been a popular restaurant for a long time. I've only just come here for the first time. The prices are reasonable, especially in this day and age. There are many good points if you look at the finer details. There are some things that are a bit questionable, but the soup bowl is excellent. The shellfish broth and seaweed are well-seasoned. The wasabi is great. The amberjack is very fresh. The yellowtail is even more delicious than it looks. The squid is sushi-quality. The herring roe is also good, giving it a New Year's feel. It's packed with a lot of ingredients. If you're in Choshi, be sure to give it a try. This restaurant is close to the fishing port, so you can eat a lot of seafood. They have a variety of menus, from rice bowls to set meals. I ordered a set meal that changes daily. The set meal has tuna, swordfish, amberjack, squid sashimi, fried sardines, and fried flounder as the main dishes. The sashimi and fried sardines are superb! It was very tasty! I thought I would bite into the fried flounder, but it was a complete failure. It was full of bones and it was a pain... But it was delicious! Anyway, it was a pain to get rid of the bones lol I also ordered fried namero. Fried namero is rare, and the staff recommended it, so I ordered it. It was a hit. Very tasty! The namero itself is soft, so frying it gave it a soft texture. I was disappointed with the flounder, but overall the taste was satisfying. Today, I ordered two bowls of rice, and the salmon roe and negitoro were delicious. There was no strong odor and they were very filling. The leeks were a little shriveled, which was a bit disappointing, but it was fine. I thought it would be quite a walk from the Port Tower, but it was actually quite close. The shrimp we got was nothing like the photo on the restaurant's sign. It was just regular boiled shrimp. The salmon roe was as small as flying fish roe. Or rather, I thought it was flying fish roe. It was just a little bit of tuna on top of the rice, and although we ordered hoping for something good from the photo, we were disappointed. Ramen restaurant
Sakamoto is a long-standing and popular ramen shop known for its traditional dishes and nostalgic atmosphere. The store has been around for over 70 years, offering simple yet flavorful options like "Kake Ramen" and "Half Curry Rice." Despite its age, the place remains busy with a constant stream of customers, especially on weekends. The kelp-based soup with a hint of oil provides a refreshing flavor to the noodles, reminiscent of oden soup.
(Translated by Google) This is one of Choshi's oldest ramen shops, beloved even by my grandmother, who is over 80 years old. The exterior and interior of the shop have remained largely unchanged, further accentuating its Showa-era retro feel. The gyoza are quite reasonably priced at 300 yen for six (as of 2018), and are delicious, with crispy skin and a perfect texture. Their signature ramen may look like your average Shina soba noodle at first glance, but upon closer inspection, you'll see that the generous amount of soup poured into the bowl is so generous that surface tension prevents it from spilling. The flavor is a nostalgic seafood-infused ramen with a kelp broth. The noodles are standard medium-thin noodles with a good texture and firmness, and the pork slices are delicious. While the ramen isn't particularly distinctive, its simple flavor creates an indescribable deliciousness. The curry rice is a typical diner-style curry rice, with its striking bright yellow roux, reminiscent of the classic dining scenes seen in Showa-era dramas. The moment you put it in your mouth, the fragrant aroma of curry powder fills your nose. It has a rich, mellow consistency that Japanese people like, with a hint of spiciness. It has a completely different taste from the supermarket curry roux that the poster has tried, and the flavor and aroma are shocking. You can order it individually, but the most popular set menu is the most ordered, and even now, at 1,200 yen for ramen and half a curry (Set A), it is by far the best in terms of price and value. With such flavor and such a low price, it's no wonder that it is packed with customers at lunchtime. In Choshi, where you can immerse yourself in Showa-era nostalgia, only customers who have visited can appreciate the flavor and comfort of this good old-fashioned local Chinese restaurant in an atmosphere that makes you feel like you've traveled back in time. It seems this famous restaurant has been engraved in my mind, and I would like to visit again if I have the chance.
