Kutchan-cho in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Kutchan-cho, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Kutchan-cho is a gateway town to the Niseko ski area, famous worldwide for its deep, light powder snow and long winter season. From here you can easily access multiple ski resorts on the flanks of Mount Niseko Annupuri, with striking views of Mount Yotei. The town itself offers a more local feel than the resort villages, with casual restaurants, bars, and shops, plus nearby hot spring baths. In summer, the area shifts to hiking, cycling, rafting, and other outdoor activities amid Hokkaido’s cooler northern climate.
With favorites like Lava Lounge Pizza, 杏ダイニング An Dining, and Rakuichi Soba, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Niseko Bang Bang and 杏ダイニング An Dining so you can get the best taste of Kutchan-cho while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Nature & Parks
Fukidashi Park, located in the neighboring town of Kyogoku, is a charming natural area with picturesque waterfalls, streams, and wooden bridges. The park offers a leisurely stroll among trees and mountain views. Visitors can enjoy the natural spring water flowing from the ground and even take a relaxing dip in an onsen. Additionally, there are snack options available to savor special coffee made with fresh spring water.
A lovely park to visit. The area where the spring water flowed felt so cool and the water was freezing cold. It was amazing that I was touching and drinking the water flowing down from Mount Yotei. The mountain was covered with mist so the view wasn't ideal but that's life... you never know what you're gonna get. It was a thrill to see a couple of autumn trees too, still in their deep red/ brown state.

It is a hot summer day. We drove here by car cuz there is a carpark and had an ice cream next to it. There was also a children playground. Yet, the best part was down the stairs. We are arrived at a bridge, and a waterfall, with moss on all of its rocks, making it look cool and calm. The waterfalls breeze was also amazing, which should be degrees colder than up on the park. There is a place to wash Ur feet and you can touch the water. It is very cold as it is water from mount YOTEI

Mind blowing, Exhilarating, heavenly experience! The autumn foliage is out of this world. Combine that with the spring waterfall 🤯🤯 Visited here on a klook tour. 🤯 will come back 100 times

Visiting Fukidashi in the late afternoon on a cool day was perfect! The natural spring water was incredibly refreshing. It's much better than a hot, sunny day. Remember to bring bottles to take some of this pure, clear water home!
Sierra C — Google review
We visited on 18 Oct 2025, and managed to catch some autumn leaves. We also saw some locals drinking directly from the fresh spring water.

This park isn’t far from Kutchan, right at the foot of Mt. Yotei. It has a natural spring and the water is unbelievably fresh and delicious😭🫶 Locals believe it brings good luck and good health too! PS. Don’t forget to bring an empty bottle🤣🤣(the water is really good, trust me adsfshshsj)

Fall colors are great. Make a stop here for sure. Don't forget too climb the 219 stairs (and go a but further up to your left to get an impressive view of mount yotia

Mountains
Mount Yōtei, also known as Ezo Fuji for its striking resemblance to Mount Fuji, is a symmetrical stratovolcano standing at 6,227 feet. It is located in the western end of Shikotsu-Toya National Park and is considered one of the 100 Famous Mountains of Japan. The near-perfect conical shape of Mount Yōtei makes it an iconic symbol of the Niseko region.
Didn't climb the mountain or go to the National Park but had many views of Mount Yotei on three different days, from different locations all around the mountain in June. Caught the sun setting on Mount Yotei from Aikawa View Point on the way to Niseko. The ring of cloud was especially fascinating. Various views of the mountain taken from hotel room, along the road, from Fukidashi Park. Mount Yotei is very charming, and it was a pleasure and joy to come all the way to Niseko to see it.

It was a great view from rusutsu and also from the other cities down there. The mountain is huge but is ok since it was summer and ain't very cold. Keep Ur jacket on up there cuz it is great wind and was a volcano. Boom get out!

We were blessed with great weather and it was a fantastic trek! Since we had already climbed Mt. Annupuri, we were able to climb without any difficulty!

I climbed all the way up the mountain, but accidentally rappelled down and had to climb the whole mountain again. Still, it was worth it because there were many treasures there.

what an incredible day this was. climbed the northwest (hangetukohan) route in september. took me about 2 and a half hours on the way up and slightly longer on the way down. took my time on the summit and probably spent close to an hour and a half, so about 6.5 hours total. i came from sapporo using a JR pass, so i ended up having to walk an extra 5 miles back to kutchan on the way back, but it worked out great and still had plenty of time. other than the lack of altitude sickness this hike is probably harder than fuji because it has slightly more altitude gain (compared to the yoshida trail) and is steeper, but i climbed it after fuji so for me it was easier. despite the steep, muddy trails, i did perfectly fine without hiking shoes and was actually much better off with my max-cushion shoes which are way easier on the knees on the way down (i had no hiking poles).

Ski & Snowboard Areas
Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Ski Area is part of the Niseko United resort, which includes four interconnected resorts: Niseko Grand Hirafu, Niseko Village, Annupuri, and Hanazono. The area offers 325 hectares of terrain with excellent off-piste opportunities and some of Japan's best powder and backcountry skiing.
An Unforgettable Ski Experience at An’nupuri, Niseko – March 2025 An’nupuri Niseko is an absolute gem, and my recent ski trip there in March was nothing short of spectacular. Despite the season edging toward spring, the snow cover was still excellent, offering pristine conditions across the mountain. I was lucky enough to score a perfect bluebird day—clear skies, not a breath of wind, and best of all, relatively uncrowded slopes that made for an incredibly enjoyable experience. What sets An’nupuri apart is its well-balanced variety of runs. From gentle slopes for beginners to more challenging terrain, there’s something for every skill level. The real highlight, though, is Gate 2, where you can hike up to access the untouched backcountry behind the summit. Skiing through Virginia powder and weaving through the trees was an absolute dream—an exhilarating and deeply rewarding experience that any powder enthusiast would appreciate. Compared to Hirafu, An’nupuri feels underrated, which works in its favor. The lift system is efficient, keeping queues minimal, and everything runs smoothly.
Rajesh M — Google review
You need to go through black diamond routes if you are skiing from Grand hirafu to Annupuri. Or you can take a bus which takes a long time to reach. And the bus is very crowded. A very beautiful place though. It has a vast ski area and not a lot of people on the mountain as most people cannot come over from hirafu. For a few days, there were strong winds, so the lifts were always closed and we could not visit Annupuri on those days. Sometimes the lift that brings us higher, after disembarking the gondola, would close early due to weather and we had to take the bus back instead of skiing back, as they warn that the area between hirafu and Annupuri is dangerous to ski back. There is a big food area at the base, where you can rest and grab some food and beverage. The staffs at the Gondola lift are friendly and helpful.
Yves R — Google review
This is a family and beginner friendly slope. I love the open wide slopes that annapuri offers. If you are a beginner like me, this would be the 2nd best option. The 1st being Hanazono, however, Annapuri offers a wider larger variety of green slopes for the beginners.
Michael T — Google review
Took a gondola ride up in early May 2025 as sight seeing ride. A helpful staff directed me to another spot to take pictures of Mt Yotei at the summit.
J C — Google review
One of the many ski area's in Niseko, it's been said that Annupuri Kokusai Ski Area has the slopes that's best for beginners. Indeed we were beginners and the hills were not too much a challenge. There are rental shops located on the side of the opening slope and a food court as well; although the opening hours if the food court were a little unclear. There is a large parking lot so there is almost no trouble with finding a parking spot. Ski lift ticket prices were reasonable. Once done skiing, there are a few restaurants nearby that you may visit, but do note that they'll be a bit more expensive that the restaurants you may find it the neighboring town of Kutchan.
Alexander C — Google review
Was late in the season when I went but thoroughly enjoyed this side of the mountain. There is a fantastic gully to ski through skier's right when leaving the gondola— just go through the gate and trees. I dropped over from Hirefu but had to climb up a bit from Annupuri and ski through trees to get back. It was either that or an expensive taxi ride
Adam R — Google review
Great ski mountains with varied terrain. Not many high speed lifts. A few bottlenecks but mostly wide open expanses.
John P — Google review
Fun resort, definitely had a vintage more 80s vibe. Buildings are kinda dated but the slopes were awesome and that’s what matters. Some of the lifts were down for maintenance but the terrain on this side is a bit steeper than other areas of Niseko. There is a one seater lift at the top which led to some of my favorite riding of the trip.

Ramen restaurant
Tozanken Ramen in Kutchan-cho is a popular spot known for its delicious ramen, although be prepared to wait due to its popularity. The restaurant has received numerous positive reviews for its great food, but some customers have mentioned long waiting times. Despite this, the restaurant remains a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Located in the heart of Kutchan, it offers an authentic Japanese dining experience at more affordable prices compared to other dining options in Niseko.
Everyday we walk past, it has a very long queue which leads up to the souvenir shop upstairs. I think they open at 5pm , so you can go queue early to get in first. The wait would usually be 30 mins to an hour. You can shop at the store upstairs meanwhile. But make sure to come back to the stairs to listen to your number. There is a machine at the door to take queue number but you must be there when they call your number, otherwise your queue number will be removed. The ramen was nice to me but I see some people not finishing their ramen or leaving a big portion untouched. Make sure not to order too much or try the usual size first. The portion is actually pretty huge even for the normal size. I'm an average sized female asian, and had to give my male friends two pork katsu and big amount of noodles to help me finish them. I love the soup too. If you can take spicy, use the chili powder and chili oil that's on the table to add more flavor ! I love it. They have side dishes such as gyoza and fried chicken etc. gyoza is nice and not burnt.
Yves R — Google review
The ramen here is great. It’s recommended you try the local speciality, the ashahikawa ramen but you can’t really go wrong with any. There’s usually a line and even busier later into the evening. Make sure you go in to the ticketing machine and queue up by entering your party size and nabbing a ticket. There’s usually an hour or two wait depending on the queue and your party size so build that into your plan if you want to eat here. There’s a souvenir shop above so you can spend some time there while you wait.
Christina W — Google review
So relaxing to enjoy such a good bowl of ramen after a big day snowboarding. There was a line up when I arrived and rightfully so people were waiting to get access to a great meal. Friendly staff and great atmosphere.
Matthew W — Google review
I had Shio Ramen and my wife had Spicy Miso Ramen. Price is acceptable and service is all right but the soup both ramen is not that good. Long line after 5 pm even it coming to the end of the season. May be popular here because of price per head on food. If you are hungry it is all right to come here on budget.
Ithinai Y — Google review
Delicious ramen! The vegetarian flavour was amazing, I got mine with added spicy and it was super good. Casual vibe, and good prices. Expect to wait 30 - 60 mins as it’s very popular. The earlier you go, the better. They have a ticket waiting system so make sure you get a ticket from the machine when you walk in. There’s a QR code on the ticket you can scan to see how many tables are ahead of you. We walked around town and came back when there was 6 groups left ahead of us. People will leave before their ticket gets called so make sure to come back earlier than you think you need to!
Robyn K — Google review
Great food and service! Staff are really friendly. The wait was around an hour but it became even longer after. They have an electronic ticket machine so you can take a number and do some shopping while you wait and there is a QR code that shows where you are in the line. There is also a little souvenir store upstairs. The food takes a little while to arrive but they are also quite busy. I'm not sure if the food was worth the wait but I would definitely go back for the fried chicken! It was so juicy and crunchy at the same time, highly recommend! The ramen soup was full of flavour and perfect for the cold weather. Servings were quite large for the low price! And much lower than some other restaurants around the mountain area.
Erin S — Google review
To join the line you need to check in digitally at the kiosk machine where you get a little ticket and you get an email when you’re close to the start of the line. We joined the line at 5:10 and after 1 hr and 40 minutes we finally got a seat. We had the spicy miso soup and the Asahikawa Ramen & both were absolutely delicious. I wouldn’t say they were worth waiting in line on the staircase but in the future just take your ticket and go do other things and check your emails for an update.

This was the most oily ramen I ever had, the tonkatsu was pure fat and the egg was over cooked. The service was really nice though and the prices are pretty good for Niseko

Rhythm Hirafu in Niseko is a bustling activity hub during the green season, offering an extensive selection of bike rentals and various activities. The facility features indoor bouldering with a kilter board, an indoor mini ramp, outdoor skate park and pump track, as well as trampoline and slacklines. It serves as a community hub hosting ongoing events throughout the summer. Visitors can also benefit from their premium ski rental package which offers a wide array of reputable selections and underfoot options.
We rented premium gear this week for our trip in Rusutsu. The gear was much higher quality and cheaper than the Rusutsu resort gear and any of the other local offerings. Shoutout to Felicia(sp.) for moving bits and pieces around for our guided trip that was scheduled for the end of the week. Our guide Joey was brilliant and found all sorts of awesome spots and lines that we never would have found without him. Definitely worth the cost and my wife and I had the best day skiing/boarding that we’ve ever had. Will be recommending Rhythm and Joey to anyone else that swings by Hokkaido from the London!

Our ski instructor Orly was extremely patient to me and my friends, who are beginners to skiing. He taught us how to put on our gears and we learnt quite a few things just within the couple of hours with him. He was very encouraging and helped built some confidence in me after I fell on the ski slopes. Very grateful for his guidance. Also, super friendly staff at Rhythm and they were very efficient in helping us picked out the right rental gears. I have already recommended Rhythm to my other friends!

We had the most amazing experience renting Specialized Vado SL model E Bikes from Rhythm in Niseko. Amazing bikes that got us through 70km Ride around Mt Yotei for the Day. Fumi and the team were very welcoming and customer service was impeccable. Looking forward to return in the winter to rent all our ski gear from them!

Awesome place. Wide selection of cycling gear in the summer and first class service. Everyone in the store was friendly and helpful, and the building itself is modern and with great design. We’ve got some delicious coffee and spend a few hours on summer activities they offer like bouldering and trampoline before hitting the road on our new shiny bikes! Couldn’t recommend Rhytm Japan more, the best place to rent sport gear in Niseko!

Hands down the best rental experience I’ve ever had. The board and boots are on top condition and the staff were super helpful. LOVE that they offer the new Burton Step In bindings! We went with the premium package and it was totally worth it. Started on an all mountain board and then switched to a powder board after the second day. Switching the board was super easy. Just walk in right up to the board counter and get it swapped out. I saw some reviews complaining about the wait but honestly it depends when you come in. They do an amazing job for the amount of customers they get. They have stations so they try to make it as streamlined as possible. Also, love that you can pick up the rental after 3pm the day before. Will definitely rent here again!
Daniel S — Google review
Had a pleasant experience renting my ski set here. It was packed but the process was very efficient and the staff were really helpful.
Daniel B — Google review
Worst experience from a rental shop. Firstly, it took us an hour to get our board and boots. Secondly, my snowboard bindings had broken on day 6 (a part fell out) while I was on the slopes. I was on the top of the mountain and luckily found out that a part was missing while strapping in and not while I was riding or after I had sustained an injury. The rhythm team simply replaced the part with no recourse, stating that since I was in possession of the board, they would count that as a full day even though it was THEIR binding that broke on me. Overall: Terrible service. Terrible quality of goods.

Restaurant
Niseko Pizza in Kutchan-cho has garnered 733 positive reviews from travelers. The restaurant is known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, with the owner Caesar being described as authentic and accommodating. Visitors have praised the delicious thin-crust pizzas, including options like Margherita and Teriyaki Chicken. The establishment is also commended for its prompt service, even near closing time.
We ordered the whole chicken for the 2 of us and wasn’t sure if we would get through it but after a big day it was the perfect meal! the Italian style was delicious, fresh herbs, garlic, butter. The self serve drink fridge is actually very handy and the staff are always there ready to help with a bottle opener. The temperature inside was actually perfect, didn’t have to strip down to a t shirt to be comfortable, and the place is very well ventilated, it was nice to leave not smelling of cooking oil like nearly all other places we’ve been to.

We came to celebrate my son’s birthday, and he was very happy. The service was fantastic, and toppings on the pizza was generous. Food: As a party of 7ppl, we ordered the Caesar salad, ribs, and 4 pizzas. The kids had a great time watching it being made. We wanted to be adventurous and try both the apple and chocolate pizza for the first time. It was good!! kinda tasted like a slightly burnt crepe, not as heavy as a pie/cake. Service: What made it SO memorable was that when the server knew it was a birthday celebration, they went to get candles and loaded the chocolate pizza with them, and played the birthday song over the system. Thanks Niseko Pizza! FYI: - There are no big tables, we had to sit separately. It was ok cuz the kids didn’t mind sitting at the bar seats watching the chef make the pizzas. - thin crust pizza and slightly burnt around the sides, for those who like the smoky taste.

Niseko Pizza is the place to go! We tried the pepperoni and the meat pizza, and both were absolutely delicious. The crust was perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of crunch, and the toppings were fresh and flavourful. The service was also excellent – friendly, attentive, and efficient, making the whole experience even better. Whether you're dining in or taking out, Niseko Pizza is a must-visit spot for pizza lovers. Highly recommended!

Saw these guys at the Sapporo autumn food fest because they literally had a line from opening to closing, which peaked my curiosity of course because whenever you see locals waiting it’s probably good stuff. Conclusion - This pizza was incredible!
Justin H — Google review
The crust = PERFECT! I've never said that before, but it is perfect. Thin, crispy, sourdough, aged for nearly five days, to give it that right kind of spongyness and crisp. The suce, slow-cooked tomato sauce to highlight the natural sugars to bring out the sweetness. The mozzarella is fresh milk style, the right kind for woodfired pizza. The pepperoni, just the right 'bite' to it, and very flavorful. The owner, Cesar, stopped by our table and had a long conversation about using fresh ingredients and the reasons you give the dough a lot of love. We will be going back again this week to try the salads.

These comments apply to the Niseko food both at the Sapporo Harvest Festival. My wife noticed long lines for a couple of days and asked that we try this booth. We ordered pepperoni, funghi & salsiccia, and D-O-C. All were good, but I personally liked the mushroom with the basalmic sauce. Really good mushroom flavor. The booth had the brick oven and rotating table where pizzas were cooked. Great teamwork by your staff to feed the long lines.

We only wish that this place was more of a restaurant. The shop has a few tables, but, as described on their website, this store is primarily for carry out. The “deli” sells some Italian pasta, sauce, and wine. Niseko Pizza ranks up there with some of our favorite pizza in Japan. If you’re in the area, it’s worth a visit.

Supermarket
Lucky Supermarket Kutchan shop is a large and well-stocked supermarket located just a short drive from Hirafu. It offers an extensive selection of fresh local vegetables, fish, snacks, dairy products, and canned goods. Visitors highly recommend the A5 Wagyu available at this supermarket, along with its convenient display of condiments and sauces for various dishes. The in-house bakery provides a variety of fresh bakery items including sandwiches.
This supermarket has all the stuff we needed to eat during our ski trip in Niseko. We cooked mostly so it was great to grab fresh ingredients for our meals. The shop also sells garments, shoes and other random stuff. Quite like a mix of a pharmacy, supermarket and apparel shop. The staff speak English.

This place is perfect for getting all the things you need for a winter holiday in Niseko. Fruits, veggies and meat are all fresh, prices are reasonable. Lots of parking right in front, and staff are helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend making this a grocery stop!

Lucky Supermarket has a great variety of food at very reasonable prices, especially the meats and sashimi-grade fish. The quality was impressive, and we were able to find everything we needed for a fantastic dinner. A must visit place for us. Visited Niseko many times and we never skipped Lucky Supermarket once. Big and well stocked supermarket. They have A5 Wagyu. Condiments, sauces for wagyu displayed along with wagyu, very easy to find everything u need to buy to cook certain dish. Example u want to cook beef sukiyaki, they displayed sukiyaki sauce above the fridge where the meats for sukiyaki are. Just grab them both and u are ready for sukiyaki meal. Highly recommended A5 wagyu. Price is reasonable, have yourself enough wagyu when in Japan. Arrays of fresh seafood, meats, fruits and vegetables. Ah dont forget to try white strawberries when its in season, you will love it. They also have some cakes, cookies, pudding for souvenirs. Liquor and drinks aisle are huge. Wide selections of dairy and frozen foods. They even have bakery, FAMIMA. Grab yourself some freshly baked bread before u head home. Next to the bakery, you can see CAN DO. Its ¥100 shop. Everything there is literally ¥100 each. If u forget something and needed to buy one, this is the place. They basically have almost everything. Clothing to stationeries. Tops bottom Socks are very cheap here. Good quality, not shady at all. Impressive to find these value for money clothing in Japan. I cant even find them in developing country like mine. Must buy (if u dont have any yet) ski jacket at very affordable prices. Same price like rental daily. Might as well get yourself one here. Thermal wear too. Very good price. Last but not the least, carrying all your shopping items, you need a taxi to get back, there's a free phone to call for taxi. Best thing is, the operator speak English. So you are safe! We always take bus to go Lucky and come back with taxi. From hirafu intersection, bus fare is ¥400 per person. Taxi cost about ¥3.000. Too bad there is no pharmacy in Lucky. Need to walk bout 700-800 meter to reach Sapporo Drug store.

Very much worth the drive from Niseko to Kutchan for this experience. Superb selection, great fish as you’d expect, from fish in a bucket to ready made sushi; much cheaper than smaller resort supermarkets. Life changing experience. 10/10.

Good sized grocery store. Lots of to-go food options. There is an in-house bakery with lots of fresh bakery items including sandwiches. Sells clothing and various items, limited souvenirs. There is an area to sit and eat, free WiFi. Clean restrooms.

Yakitori restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Niseko Bang Bang is a cozy family-style izakaya that has been around for over 30 years. It is particularly famous for its yakitori, which includes various meat, vegetables, and seafood grilled over hot charcoal and seasoned with traditional sauces. The restaurant also offers delicious sides, fresh sashimi, original salads, and an extensive menu of refined and upscale izakaya-style dishes.
Undeniable that this was the BEST meal we had in Niseko! Glad I read some reviews ahead of time about showing up super early - either a little before or right when they open because we didn't have reservations and they seemed to be completely booked for the next 2 months! We got seated right at the bar area with a great view of the chefs. Every dish was amazing, the service was also impeccable, and the atmosphere was authentic. This should be a destination to seek out if you're in the Hokkaido area!
Pam V — Google review
It doesn’t get any better than this in Niseko. You must go here. I waited for a seat to open up at the bar because I knew it would be completely worth it. The whole staff is so friendly, kind and welcoming, so refreshing. I had the Hokkaido Venison, Fried Salmon and Sponge Cheesecake. One of the chefs thanked me for waiting and gave me a great glass of sake out of appreciation! Rare to see a combination emasculate food and customer service. My last night in Niseko is tomorrow and I will probably go again. Such a great vibe here. Like other reviewers, show up very early or late. The place really cleared out about 7pm and people were easily able to get a seat right in front of the chefs without reservation. They are booked for weeks with reservations, but it is definitely worth showing up early or later. Incredible experience!
KAM — Google review
Wonderful yakitori dinner. Staff was sweet, and we were fortunate to receive seats without reservation. The owner warmly greeted us with conversation and we enjoyed 12 skewers, sashimi plate, oysters, grilled hotte, deer steak, a few sides and desert. No regrets on anything, but the chicken tail, wagyu and pork cheek skewers were the best of all. The deer steak was excellent, no gamey taste and wonderfully tender. Hotte was perfectly grilled and of course the sashimi and oysters were some of the best quality of our trip. We spent about $110pp USD with beers and desert. Our counter seats offered views of the yakitori chef who was so professional managing every detail, even the perfect charcoal placement, and the owners son was helping in all areas, great to see the family run business stroll thriving after 40yrs. Really a great experience that lives up to its reputation and so grateful they keep 2 counter seats for walkins, and that we were the lucky ones tonight!
Christine H — Google review
We visited Bang Bang last night as a walk-in without a reservation. The staff was generally polite, but the service was disorganized. We were told to wait outside for 10 minutes, only to see other customers walk straight in and get seated before us.As for the food, it was overpriced for the quality. The wagyu was excessively fatty we couldn't finish it, and the sashimi and yakitori were just average—not bad, but nothing special. Given the high prices, we expected better. Overall, a disappointing experience with decent but unremarkable food and inconsistent service.
Ain N — Google review
This place is always so hard to get reservations, you might get lucky either by walking in early (at 5pm) or emailing in for a reservation weeks before. However, it is worth it! The chicken heart yakitori and chicken wings are amazing. They have a really hearty ochazuke to start or end your meal. The atmosphere is really nice and the staff are really friendly as well!
Audrey L — Google review
All the food was so delicious. The sashimi was the freshest I have had in my life. Our waiter and all the staff were SO kind to us. Thank you all. We hope to come back again soon.
Dr. H — Google review
Recommended to sit at the counter to watch the chef in action! Their menu is extensive and features izakaya favourites like kushiyaki, seafood menus that are popular in Hokkaido, sake and wine etc. I could tell there were regulars dining there, which goes to show their level of service. Price is a tad expensive for us, but this is Niseko after all.
Haruki — Google review
Bang bang was one of our favorite restaurants in Japan. Everything we tried was delicious- wagyu beef and mushroom skewers were our favorite. We were lucky and got a seat at the counter where you can watch the grill master which made the experience more unique. Reservations are needed as this place is always packed. If you can’t find a table online you can give them a call. That’s what we did and we were able to get a spot the same day.

An Dining is a sophisticated Japanese restaurant located in the Ki Niseko hotel, offering locally sourced Hokkaido cuisine in an elegant setting. Led by Chef Shinichi Maeda, who previously helmed a renowned restaurant in Brisbane, Australia, the 50-seat establishment provides stunning views of Mt. Yotei. The restaurant offers casual Western and Japanese-style breakfast and lunch options, while dinner features upscale Japanese fare.
Great food and service. Was expecting all Japanese style cuisine but was pleasantly surprised by some western influence in their dishes. Lovely drinks too. Had the hot chocolate and lemon sour.
Cecilia C — Google review
My partner and I stayed in the hotel for 7D/6N and had the opportunity to try their daily breakfast. So we decided to make reservations for their premium tasting menu on our last night for dinner. It was a fantastic dining experience all the way around. The decor/ambiance, the service, and especially the food were all top tier, especially the Waygu. It was one of the best foods we had during our stay in Neisko.
Ann — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner experience and birthday ambiance at An Dining. The chef's meticulously crafted dessert platter was truly remarkable, with the ice cream-like cheese being absolutely exquisite. The main course braised Wagyu beef was equally impressive. The flavor of Hokkaido Danshaku Potato Gnocchi with Mushroom Salsa Bianca was also unforgettable. Of course, the service quality was equally impeccable. Definitely, we will definitely revisit the stage of culinary artistry.
Sylvia K — Google review
We chose the Premium Set menu. Delightful and not the most expensive meal we had in Niseko. But certainly not cheap at around 17,000 yen pp. Scallops, wagu beef, and oysters were a real highlight. The Western Australia Cabernet (forgot the name) was also great about 8 years on and 8,000 yen. Great dinner with friends.
Chris A — Google review
Food was great. One of our best meals in niseko. Small tapas size plates were great for sharing so we could try many different dishes. Scallops and Wagyu cheeks were some of our favs! Highly recommend.

Delicious first meal for us in Niseko. Had a variety of well-prepared dishes to share. The tempura, not pictured, was also fabulous.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at An’ Dining last night. The wonderful local produce was beautifully prepared and every course of the An’ Tasting Menu was excellent, very tasty and very well presented. All staff members were gracious, friendly and welcoming, and each one added value to our evening. We look forward to dining at An’ again when next we return to Niseko and we gladly recommend it to those looking for a fine dining experience in Hirafu.
Owen A — Google review
Greasy greasy greasy 😣 The sirloin beef was wayyyy too greasy to eat, I felt there was oil bomb exploded in my mouth and immediately my stomach felt weird. The cauliflower somehow was also full of heavy oil taste and lack of flavors. The fried fish and shiitake mushrooms are way too salty. The apple sake was way off balanced and very very sweet. Overall quite disappointing and way below the average for restaurants in Japan.

Ramen restaurant
Nakama Ramen is a fantastic place to go if you want to replenish the calories you burned on the slopes. The menu is extensive, offering authentic and no-frills ramen with a genuine Japanese taste. Unlike other tourist trap food in Niseko, Nakama Ramen provides an earthy and down-to-earth dining experience. Their ramen soup base comes in three flavors: salt, shoyu, and miso.
Very cute family run place. Visited during a train stopover in Kutchan and there was a line out the door for lunch opening. Worth the wait! Sweet and savory broth with lots of chashu and veggies added a nice touch. The spicy miso is great too. Glad we stopped in!

Delicious, warm, and homely meal. Amazing broth for the ramen - light and flavourful at the same time! Gyoza were delicious too - chock full of meat and veggies. Definitely a stop to make when in town.

Amazing Ramen and experience! A hole I the wall place with authentic feel and taste. A small family owned ramen shop with great prices.

Old retro restaurant. Good broth! Chive Gyoza is a must order!
David C — Google review
There are numerous authentic Japanese restaurants dotted around Kutchan town, but randomly coming across this ramen joint was perhaps a truly unexpected surprise and pleasure. Watching what I can only guess to be the matriarch of the family, personally preparing each bowl of ramen, and seeing the entire family working together to serve up what is possibly one of the most delicious bowls of super spicy miso soup ramen I have ever eaten, with 5 soft and chunky slices of freshly boiled pork slices (I saw Grandma pulling out of the pot in the kitchen a freshly boiled slab of pork!) Unbelievably cheap, considering the quality, and accompanied by five soft, exquisitely tasty gyoza. Cannot recommend this place enough! (Warning: the miso based soup I ordered was a little bit on the salty side)

Lava Lounge Pizza is a cozy spot that offers a variety of options for vegetarians and even has a happy hour deal on classic pizzas. They also deliver, making it perfect for a comfy night in. The restaurant provides generous portions, so sharing is an option to save some money. In addition to pizza, they offer chicken wings, salads, draft beer, wine, and signature cocktails. It's also child-friendly and suitable for family outings.
Host a great guy! Place was packed and long wait, suggested alternatives in the area, and offered takeaway. We ordered takeaway and had a beer while we waited, ended up getting a spot at the bar which was perfect. Watched the extreme skiing, while drinking great beer and eating assume pizza - what more would you want!!

11/10! Great pizza, the salads were fresh and very tasty. Service was great, Sohan took great care of us. We even had the homemade chocolate brownie for dessert which was to die for! We will be back, highly recommend.

Walked in around 6PM with 6 people. It got very busy after that, we were lucky to get a table. Service was quite slow although the waiters were attentive and kept asking if we wanted more drinks. They also brought a complimentary cheesy garlic bread during the wait. I couldn’t eat it but it was appreciated by my company. I was happy to have a vegan pizza! The cheese was pretty good (for vegan cheese..)
Adeolu — Google review
(Vegan review) This place is great, they have a great vegan pizza that is the best I have had in town and it includes vegan cheese. The dough is great, was approved by the Italian in my group. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful! The music is great too, they were playing shoe-gaze indie stuff all night like castlebeat. The meat eaters in my group were also satisfied. The only negative is the beer selection is lacking but it could be that we went to Taproom first.
Shawn D — Google review
Walk-in place. We waited for 30 mins and got our table. Very noisy and touristy place but it really has its own vibe. Pizza was just so good!!! Probably one of the best ones I tasted in a while. Friendly service. Would very much like to recommend this place to anyone who wants to taste real pizza in Niseko.
Boyoung K — Google review
Food is definitely 2/5 unilaterally from 3 people. There was really no discernible difference between the supreme and the bbq chicken both had so few toppings and tasted the same. ~4000 yen per pizza. The base is good so there’s no reason the pizza can not be improved. Fries were decent. The online ordering and delivery were great though.
JJ M — Google review
Solid pizza place for Japan. Prices are reasonable and wait time was short. We ended up here after striking out at other places with insane lines and were very happy with the outcome. My critiques are that the drink selection is pretty limited (especially beer, just Sapporo) for a bar. The pizzas were good but they all tasted pretty similar.

For day 2, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Niseko Hanazono Resort. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu is a vibrant ski destination that offers an all-encompassing experience for winter sports enthusiasts and summer adventurers alike. This full-service area features a variety of shops, dining options, and even lessons for those looking to hone their skiing skills. In the warmer months, visitors can enjoy hiking trails that showcase the stunning natural beauty of the region.
I've been to many ski resorts, but Niseko is heaven for skiers or snowboarders. Not only does it combine four major ski resorts, but each has its own variety of slopes, and you can ski from the top of the mountain to the other resorts without having to take a shuttle bus. All facilities are well maintained, the staffs here are very friendly and helpful, if you have any questions they will able to help you in different leagues. The only downside to Niseko is the high prices, as it is located in the mountains away from the city, so if you want to ski in and out be prepared for accommodation and restaurants, to be more expensive than most other places in Japan. But I will still give it 5 🌟
Andrew-Drew — Google review
Every snowboarders dream. Just have to hope that you get lucky and it’s not too windy so you have access to the whole mountain. It’s a great place to experience the backcountry for the first time, with amazing powder conditions and easy access back to the resort. If you’re going down from gate 3 or 4, would consider checking out some videos on YouTube for the best lines down. Would recommend going early to the lifts though as it’s always a rush for a clean line.
Bryan K — Google review
I love the mountain but not the middle management who run the ski resort, most of employees are very nice and doing their best. I hope owners are going to make some changes to the management. Good to see the place spinning in the summer and some facelifts to the facilities. Although would be nice to make over the toilets too but I guess it's fine as it is, maybe next year lol
Miha G — Google review
Amazing views, great facilities, friendly conditions. The soft, powdery snow is great for beginners, as the falls won't be as painful and dangerous, especially for snowboard rides, which are more prone to falling.. overall a great visit for myself and friends. Would be back if I'm ever in the area again.
Thomas C — Google review
Great ski, resort. We came here for the last week of the off-peak season. It snowed every night and clear skies for most of the week. The snow was soft and fluffy, comparable to Utah or Colorado. Staff, very much like the rest of Japan are all about extreme politeness. A lot of tourists; heck, so am I.

Beautiful ski resort with TONS of powder. My family and I have been going every Christmas for the past 15 years (except Covid years). It does get very busy during Christmas and chairlift queues can get very very long but the snow is so worth it.

If your priority is blending maximum slope time via the main gondola with an intimate, luxury setting and the absolute best view Mt. Yotei has to offer, the Roka Chalet is a non-negotiable choice. It's an investment in a seamless Niseko adventure.

We had so much fun rafting!! We did not know there was so much to do at Hanazono in summer! Our guide Bhupan was so good and experienced! On our first experience there was a little boy(under 3) with us and Bhupan was careful to make sure the boy and his parents were safe. My husband and I were so impressed we signed up again 2 days later and we were extremely happy to get Bhupan again. This time it was us and my adult son and because there were no little ones on board, he made the experience different and thrilling! Such a wonderful time! Please thank Bhupan and the team again for their wonderful service and care! The photographer was also so professional and helpful! And his pictures are gorgeous! We will definitely be back!

Great slopes for beginners and families. One of the widest area for learners in the area, compared to Hirafu and Annapuri. Has a long moving travelator (abt 100m) for the beginners. It gives an option for those wanting to learn skiing/snowboarding with friendly slopes and those that just wanna have fun tubing. There are at least 2 tube runs which are 100m long as well. Good family fun. Best of all, its all in one area, where you can see your kids with a watchful eye. Food is great as well with alot of variety and ample sitting place right next to the ski field. I was there at peak season and could still find seats, although it was a little diffifcult. (Compared to the Grand Hirafu, where we stood and ate) Highly Recommended if you are looking for a more chill and relaxing resort. The resort is also connected to the ski park, which makes it convenient for a ski in ski out experience.

A Most Breathtaking Exhilarating Experience on the Zipline. Superb Logistics even with overnight blizzard conditions creating fresh JaPow Snow. Heavenly views zipping down over the snow covered trees and the ski area. Easy Approach from our stay at Park Hyatt Niseko. The chairlift to reach the top to start the Zipline was super luxury with heated leather seats and a covered hood to protect from the elements while viewing the spectacular snow surroundings. We were a couple and they arranged for a side by side Zipline experience - very unique. The Adventure staff is polite, friendly and very competent. All in All, A standout topnotch experience in our whole ski trip to Niseko. Not to be missed.

This area was definitely the most mild terrain in Niseko but had some of the best powder and least amount of people. The food area was incredible and had tons of options and bonus they also had a dj playing the one afternoon. I went back for night skiing a few nights and had an excellent time even though the lift is really short and only a beginner hill. Tons of powder to be found in late February.

Probably has the best food options out of the 4 ski resorts - they even have crab ramen. The ski area is relatively small, with two main lifts and mostly red runs.

Nestled in the stunning landscapes of Hokkaido, Mountain Kiosk Coffee is a charming rustic coffee stand that opens its doors at 7:30 am, offering a perfect setting for a leisurely morning or a refreshing tea break. The stand's wooden exterior blends seamlessly with the natural beauty around it. It's known for its signature Classic Pudding, which perfectly complements any beverage with its delightful balance of caramel richness and subtle bitterness.
This place serves amazing coffee which was one of the best I’ve had so far in Japan (shocking!) They are doing winter blend which was a mixture of Ethiopia and Honduras this season. The blend brings out the floral and fruity taste of the coffee which was rare while I was in Japan. They are just outside Hirafu Welcome Centre when I was waiting for my bus to the airport. Can stop by for a cuppa while waiting for your bus. I can guarantee there will be no regrets!

had a mocha that tasted really awesome on a day with heavy snow. space inside is a little small, but there's some seats to just rest your legs after a long day of snowboarding with some hot drink in your hand. the staff are friendly with great smiles. keep up the great work!

When it comes to drinks, I’m very, very picky. (Because I make my own and have tried plenty). If I could give a more accurate rating, I would give this cafe a 4.5. My friend and I have been travelling for weeks in Japan, and it was surprisingly difficult to get a great coffee or tea. I’d say that this place serves really yummy houjicha and matcha latte! The coffee is decent. One of the few places that makes an effort to do latte art. Taste aside, the ambience is small, but cozy. It has a great view of Mt Yotei. And on a sunny day, it’s nice to sit outdoors with a cuppa. They also sell their own merchandise: stickers, shirts, drip coffee, houjicha powder (which i bought). There’s little space to sit, but sometimes having to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with another person is a good way to meet cool people there. The staff there are super friendly. Loved them! Would recommend anybody passing through Niseko to give this cafe a shot. It’s located in the parking lot, next to the Welcome Center.

Nothing better than stopping for a salted caramel latte before hitting the slopes! The cutest coffee outpost! Great atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious coffee and baked goods. The best fine dining I had ever tasted in Japan! A lot of local ingredients are used, and the simple ingredients are well integrated. I am very surprised. It must be paired with wine parring. It is really wonderful. It goes well with the meal.

We went for dinner on 1 Jan 2025. They could accommodate our request for an earlier seating. It was a 4 course set menu (JPY16,000 with additional JPY7,000 for wine pairing). Oysters were very fresh although I didn’t much like the pickled radish as it detracted from the taste profile. The grilled unagi complemented the smooth Foie gras, served with homemade petite brioche. The main was the wagyu tenderloin cooked medium rare accompanied with burdock (whole and purée) and jus (cooked for 3 days). It was tender, rich and flavorful. Paired well with both Pinot and CabSav. However it was the dessert (thinly sliced carrot cake served over mousse, very punchy ginger gel and chilli mousse) that took us by surprise. The flavors paired beautifully with dry sparkling wine. Service was great (thank you Hayley) and inside the barn was cosy and welcoming like a warm hug).

The whole experience was amazing, we had the Wagyu fried potatoes, hokke fish appetizer and the mushroom main course dish and the 24 hour braised beef was out of this work! Emily who served us was superb and genuine, looking after us and even gave us some surprises homemade rum shots as she knew we were going out to town for a few more drinks. :)

I regret coming here. We did the set menu paired with the wine tasting. In total it was $150 usd. I wish I would’ve spent $150 on sushi instead. The oyster was 1 bite, and was okay. Nothing special with the taste. Really was just all presentation. Then the bread and butter 2nd course was sub par with the tinest piece of eel you’ve ever seen. The appetizers were not exciting. For the price, I feel like it should be something that makes me say “WOW”, but it wasn’t close to that. I will say, the wagyu steak and mashed potatoes were delectable, very very tasty! Probably the most tender steak I’ve had. But again, the portion was so small. I understand it was a tasting menu which means small portions, but I really just didn’t feel that I got my money’s worth. Then for desert, it was essentially whipped cream on a plate with fancy decorations. Literally just whipped cream… For $150 at least give us a slice of cheesecake or something satiating. We went and ate at the food trucks after our meal because we were still hungry. Also the atmosphere was loud and just didn’t have that fine dining feel. I think this place is a tourist trap.

We had the best dinner ever tonight! Beautiful table by the window, the service was impeccable! The timing of the courses was perfect! Thank you for making us feel so special!

One of several restaurants that serves western meals (not counting eateries within hotels), it is a popular dining option for tourists/skiers who want something that doesn't need to be google translated. The space is a modified barn. Open and airy which is nice. Located near other restaurants, it is in a good location. In terms of food, it is good. A decent but small selection of dishes covering each major food group. Nothing super creative but dishes that most western diners will be familiar with. The only disappointment for the evening was the fish. It was bland and boring. Serving sizes are ok but not overly generous. Service is fast from the young wait staff. I suspect they have at least a second seating if not a third. Prices are on the high side or we'll just call it mountain price.

I was with a group of girlfriends, and we all thought the food was OK. Cocktails were meh. The service was nice, and the atmosphere was fine dining/cozy. I just wished they could have let in some cool air throughout the night. I liked it, but I'm not looking forward to it next season.

Menu was very limited and food tasted kind of weird for our taste (We did not order from the set menu). The seats were kind of cramped. Staffs were very attentive though and the building was interesting.

Bo-yo-so is a popular lunch spot in Niseko, known for its delicious and satisfying meals. Located on the mountain, it offers a great atmosphere for skiers to relax and refuel. The menu boasts a variety of options, including the highly recommended Katsu Don and flavorful ramen. Despite its popularity, prices are reasonable compared to other dining establishments in the area.
Very little beats a hot Japanese meal for lunch during a ski trip. The food’s really good here. It’s the standard get a ticket then exchange the ticket for food kinda shop here. Also would be great to go earlier, around 11pm or before if you want to skip the crazy lunch crowd! The curry rice is really good. Would also recommend the miso soup as well since the rice doesn’t come with miso soup. Hot chocolate is great too. Cash only everywhere in the shop. There’s a vending machine at the back if you wanna grab some quick drinks

CASH ONLY As an Instructor, this is the go to place. I take my clients the only authentic and affordable restaurants you can find in the whole of Niseko . If you’re looking for a quick stop to get a good and enjoyable meal, this is the place to go however to get here you will have to take the black slope down from the main King gondola Hill down or alternatively you can also take the king pea chairlift up and walk over. From 12 o’clock to 130 this place is usually very rammed so either go before these times or after these times due to peak lunchtime and also Ski lesson times. If you are looking for more recommendations on your trip here, please feel free to contact me

Great atmosphere to have lunch with excellent food. Traditional cash only ticket machines, and as you’d expect it does get crowded. Would recommend getting there by 12.30pm and getting someone to scout out a table whilst waiting in line.
Robert W — Google review
This is tucked away on the mountain have to ski to it, which was really fun. Place was really crowded, but we found a spot no problem. You just pay at one of the machines and then bring your ticket up to the counter. I thought the Ramen was really solid and Loved my rice with salmon roe.

Bo-yo-so was the best meal I’ve ever had on a ski slope. Over my few days in Niseko I came here a few times and tried the katsudon, the curry soba, and the ramen. The ramen was easily my favorite. Something about snowboarding a full morning, entering this little hut with natural light flooding in and mogging a bowl of ramen along with some sake had my spirit at peace. It’s honestly pretty cheap for mountain food too, 1400 yen for a bowl of Hokkaido style ramen. Cash only tho. For however long I am blessed to live on this earth, I will always look back on this memory fondly. Like most things in life, money comes and goes, but no one can take these types of experiences away from you. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

I've been here several times over the years. The owner is said to have been the first Japanese person to have climbed Mount Everest and he still works there! Katsu: crispy breading and good cut of meat. Fat is easy to eat around and you get a clear flavor. A classic done well. It could've been a tiny bit hotter. (What I had today) Soba with vegetables: i can't remember too much of this one as I had it last year but it was what it said it was. Very warming and nice to have with good textures and flavors. Chicken and eggs: my instructor said that this one was very good! There are pickled vegetables and ginger you can add to your dishes. You can pick between regular size and large. There is also an area to purchase snacks and little things. Even though we came early (11:45), it was still crowded with a bit of a wait for both seats and to order food. Despite that, food service itself is very rapid. It is a little difficult to find seating as it is quite a popular but small spot. They only take cash (as of posting this). I will continue coming here in the years to come!

This Grand Hifaru mountain cafe is only accessible via black slopes. Super packed during lunch, either go very early or very late. CASH ONLY vending machine. Lots of choices. The ebi-krage is fantastic.
Kee H — Google review
Crappy, crowded restaurant with rude staff who pretended that we didn’t order the right thing and said “your mistake” and just ignored us afterwards. We had to line up for another 15 mins to order another bowl of udon at the end, but the curry turned out to be watery and had limited ingredients - just plain sauce. The restaurant was so crowded that people had to put their bowls on their laps to eat. Cash only. Pretty dirty as it was all self service with no staff helping to clean up at the dining area. I think the only routes to get here is via black slopes, but there could be other ways. Overall, Do not recommend.

Sprout, a charming café conveniently located just a short stroll away from the train station, comes highly recommended for its top-notch java in Niseko. Whether you opt for their signature blend or the Bolivian variety, this establishment promises an array of delectable options. Additionally, visitors can peruse a helpful information board detailing both tourist and local activities, as well as explore an extensive collection of captivating books and aesthetically pleasing merchandise available for purchase.

Such a sweet little cafe right across from Kutchan station with some vegan options. The interior is gorgeous and homey and warm with wood, pillows, flowers, coffee beans and books lining the walls. The staff are lovely and everything is very affordable. They have soy and oat milk available and many choices of coffee bean. The vegan peanut butter cookie was especially yummy, and we enjoyed the vegan banana bread too. Glad we got to come here while staying in Niseko!

Lovely little cafe just a 2 minute walk from the station. Was recommended this place from a friend for the "best coffee in Niseko". They have an option of the original or Bolivian blend. You can find a useful tourist and local activities information board, a ton of interesting books and a nice shop section for some aesthetically pleasing goods. Relaxing atmosphere with a nice range of coffes (including soy boy options) and smoothies. Got 2 coffees (M & L) for ¥1000, so decent price.

[Jan 2025] Great place to get a hot coffee on a cold winter day. Very conveniently located a minute's walk from the Kutchan JR station. Homely, cozy vibes and friendly service. We had the Guatemala COE #3 Rosma Geisha single origin handdrip, and Niseko Haute Route blend americano. The Guatemala was light and floral - a happy drink. The NHR blend had a nicely balanced taste - don't like a prominent acidic taste, the balance was spot on here. Bought the Mt Yotei blend beans home and it works great black or with milk. Nice well-rounded taste. Wish I bought more! If you love your coffee and you are in Niseko, you should find time to drop in.

Mishima-San’s Shibazakura Garden is a stunning sight to behold, with its vibrant Shiba Sakura flowers in full bloom from late May to early June. The garden is lovingly tended by Mishima-san, who resides nearby. Visitors are advised to park at the local sake brewery and not at the garden itself. Despite being a private garden, it offers breathtaking views of Mt. Yotei and the moss phlox.
The garden is a beautiful hillside covered in shibazakura, a kind of moss with pink and white flowers. It is stunning and is in bloom now. It is well worth a visit. Plus on a clear day you'll have an amazing view of Mt. Yotei. And if you're really lucky, you get to meet Mr. Mishima, the gardens owner. There is a free parking lot.
Judy O — Google review
I was there on 4.6.2025. Highly recommended! It’s very kind of Mishima san for letting us in her garden. The shibasakura was in full bloom and it was so beautiful. Pink carpet of all the flowers. The smell of the flowers was also amazing. The parking is actually located a little bit further away about 300 meters from the garden.
Bussabong C — Google review
A huge and amazing garden that just blows one’s mind. A homeowners labour of love that gets nurtured year in year out. This is someone’s residence in a residential area. Be respectful. Don’t drive past - park at the bottom of the hill (there’s a small park with parking) and make the short 500m walk to the house.
John R — Google review
Parking is quite insufficient. It’s better to arrive as early as you can. Visiting by walk is also a good option if you stay nearby.

This is a fantastic place to visit by the end of May or early June when the flowers are at full bloom. There's no entrance fee.
Guillermo P — Google review
30 May 2024. It was a short walk from Kutchan Station. The colours of the shibazakura were splendid and there was a lovely fragrance in the air from the flowers. A very well-maintained garden. Have to take care not to trespass to the surrounding private homes/gardens.
Yeda K — Google review
Walked here and it was pretty nice. Lots of space to take nice pictures with the flowers. The flowers weren’t in full bloom but it was still nice. These 2 girls came and took pictures at the same spot for 45 minutes which was annoying but I can’t take stars away for that.
John L — Google review
Appreciate the owner for having such a nice little garden. There are "No Parking" signs everywhere. Wish there is clear signage where to park and appreciate the peace without being harass. When i was there, a green shirt 50ish thug try to chase my car away by staring hard at me. I am there for just 1min. If visitors are not welcome, it should be make known. Driving 1hr down from Otaru is defintely not worth the time if you have been to kyoto garden or the Otaru Botanica garden. Visitor should moderate their expectation of such a small garden. Perhaps it is a private garden not meant to be visited after all. i wish i know earlier

Mt. Niseko-Annupuri

Mountain peak
Mt. Niseko-Annupuri is a 1,308m high peak known for its stunning winter scenery and four ski resorts offering diverse terrains. Visitors can access the area by taking a train to II Valley Station and then a taxi or bus to reach the ski resort. It's advisable to arrange transportation with the hotel in advance. Skiing beginners can opt for coaching sessions, but note that night skiing is not available after 4:30 pm.
Mt. Niseko-Annupuri is a must-see destination for nature lovers and winter sports enthusiasts alike. The mountain offers stunning panoramic views that are especially mesmerizing during winter when the landscape is covered in a blanket of snow. The beauty of the surrounding peaks and valleys is unparalleled, making it a prime spot for outdoor exploration and photography. For those not eager to hike to the top, the gondola offers a convenient ride that takes you a quarter of the way up the mountain. This makes it easier for visitors to access the ski area, which becomes a bustling hub of activity during the winter season. The ski slopes are perfect for both beginners and seasoned skiers, providing a fun and thrilling experience. Whether you’re here for skiing, snowboarding, or simply to take in the breathtaking views, Mt. Niseko-Annupuri offers an unforgettable experience for all who visit.

Great place to ski or snowboard (or anything in between- I've even seen a skibike)! I've been coming annually since 2016 and have loved it since. The powder is truly some of the best in the world here. I have never experienced anything better anywhere else; powder in other places can comparatively be called icy compared to what falls on Niseko. It is so light and fluffy, plus during the season, snowfall is very regular so after a trail gets a bit packed by the end of the day, by the next morning, it is fresh and ready to go. But because of this, most days (in my experience) don't have as great of visibility due to the constant snowfall and clouds passing over the mountain in addition to fast winds. There is a whole range of routes to go on so this mountain is truly great for all levels of experience. There are 4 parts to the mountain: Annupuri, Niseko Village, Hirafu and Hanazono. Each have their perks but I'd recommend a stay in a resort by Hirafu if you would like to go night skiing. There are also many ski schools you can book- some give priority access to certain chairlift queues depending on which part of the mountain you are on. Food on the slopes is also good- do check out Boyo-so (I also have a review on this one)! Hot chocolate from the Hana 1 Cafe is also great and meals generally are quite tasty (it is good Japanese food after all)! Lift operator staff are friendly and helpful, lines to lifts, though can be long, move fairly quickly. There are also very many resorts to choose from as well as convenient stores and restaurants nearby so you can buy what you need with little inconvenience.

Great for a summer hike, beginner friendly and can even take the gondola to save some time if you are in a hurry; stunning views of the Japan sea once you reach the summit

My first time to Niseko. Absolutely loved the place. I tried all 4 resorts over a 3-day period. There's a wide variety of courses which are well maintained. There's also off course options for the more adventurous ones. The resorts are connected at the top unless the weather is really bad and the top lifts are not operating. The scenery is amazing with a view of Mt. Yôtei.
Zuzana P — Google review
During summer you can climb to the top in 30 min-1 hr from Goshiki Onsen. Sometimes my friend and I park 1 car at the Goshiki Onsen side, then move to Hirafu Dot Base, climb up then climb down to the Goshiki side. I think during winter some advanced level guys take the lift up then walk to the summit and ski/board down the Goshiki side too.
Ryusuke A — Google review
Limited runs. Surprising a lot of beginners making wide turns. Conditions were great but YMMV. No mountain guides on the mountain. I didn’t have the time to ski until 8pm but was great for photography during golden hour. Can connect to the other Niseko United mountains from the top lifts.

The Grand Hirafu Gondola is a popular spot for skiers and snowboarders, located in the Hirafu area of Kutchan. It's recommended to visit in March when there are no long lines at the lifts. The resort offers ski lessons with expert instructors. Even late in the season, they keep enough of the mountain open for some challenging runs. The morning may be a bit icy, but midday conditions are perfect.
Very efficient gondola to the slope and always got powder snows in Hirafu during the snow boarding / skiing seasons! You can now buy ticket advance online and get from there so it’s easier. My value pick will be afternoon 2-6pm have a 4 hours pass and enjoy the mountain after lunch!
Samuel L — Google review
The gondola service was efficient, there was less than 5 mins queue at 9:30 AM. The ticket for round trip is 3500 yen per person which is not bad. The view from the gondola and the top is certainly unique but if you were expecting the alps/dolomite vibe then this is not that. FYI, Gondola does not take you all the way to the top of the hill but I must say that the powder was super soft!
Thanawadi T — Google review
★★★★★ I've been skiing Grand Hirafu since the mid-2000s and have seen many changes—some great, some not so much. The upgrade from quad chairs to efficient gondolas has improved mountain access, and there's now a fantastic mix of international visitors, creating a vibrant yet respectful atmosphere. The mountain offers about 30% expert terrain (mainly at the top), 35% intermediate (mid-mountain), and the rest for beginners at the lower elevations. The legendary Japanese powder is unbeatable, and off-piste skiing is world-class, with well-spaced trees and manageable gradients compared to North America. Staff across the resort—whether lift operators or hospitality workers—are friendly, helpful, and customer-focused. Lift passes remain some of the most affordable worldwide, and the overall value for money is excellent. However, terrain diversity is limited, especially compared to North America, with fewer long groomers or mogul runs. If you're looking for technical progression, it may not be ideal, but if you want pure enjoyment, it's hard to beat. For now, major corporate ownership hasn’t taken over, keeping ticket prices and services reasonable. While costs are rising, they remain more affordable than most global ski destinations. With consistently incredible powder and a well-run resort, Grand Hirafu is still an outstanding place to visit—just don’t wait too long before it changes!

The King Gondola starts running at 11:00, the building only opens at 10:30. Until then they do safety checks, they say. This time is very late for hikers. I was there in summer.
Natascha — Google review
Came here a bit late in the season when most other places are closed. However, Hirafu keeps enough of the mountain open to have a great time with some challenging runs. It's a bit icy in the morning and crystals start to form by late afternoon but midday is perfect. Also, I love that they charge half price of about US$30 for the day pass.

Kumo Restaurant, situated in Skye Niseko, is a versatile dining spot offering soulful meals during the day and transforming into a vibrant Izakaya at night. Kumo Restaurant was such a fantastic experience for us! The food was fresh, delicious, and came out so quickly, which is always a plus when dining with four small children. The staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home, which really stood out to us. We loved the cozy yet stylish izakaya vibe, and the interiors were spotless and thoughtfully designed. Their drinks menu was a hit too—great cocktails for the adults and fun mocktails for the kids, ensuring everyone had something to enjoy. Kumo is a great restaurant if you’re looking for something a little fancier that’s very non-Japanese friendly. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t advertised as upscale which does really make a difference in the price in Niseko (as in more expensive). I also don’t think the food was worth the price though it was very good! Besides that, the location, the staff, the ambiance, and the drinks were absolutely amazing!!

Very good Japanese izakaya with English speaking staffs. Loved the food. Vegetable dishes were quite nice. I loved their eggplant and karaage tofu. Their meat dishes were also nice. Try their salmon rolls. Loved it. Drinks.. large variety. We had beer, yuzu sour, whiskey high bowl. All very nice. Desserts were nice. Chocolate pudding was quite fruity. Icecream and sorbet were also good. We were group of 8 and the bill came out as quite reasonable. But some of us didn't agree on that. Value for money ...? Depends! Atmosphere was nice. Family friendly.

Re-visited the restaurant after years of COVID interruption, we’re disappointed to experience the decline in food quality. It’s still acceptable but no longer enticing. Services were a bit slow & inattentive too. Went again the following ski season, more disappointed as the dishes were at best average & definitely not comparable to before & not to mention many of peers nearby. Dishes were not cheap at all. Museum
The Arishima Takeo Memorial Museum is a tribute to the influential Taisho era writer, showcasing his life and literary works such as Emerging Concerns, A Certain Woman, and Descendents of Cain. The museum is built on the site of Takeo's father's farm with unique Hokkaido design elements and houses around 600 items. Visitors can enjoy a spacious area and impressive artwork inside. The museum also features Koya coffee for relaxation.
A wonderful facility where you can learn about the life of novelist Takeo Arishima and his contributions to Niseko, as well as the art of Niseko and Shiribetsu. Takeo's suicide, which is said to be the motif of Paradise Lost, is shocking. You can also spend some time at the cafe, which is a perfect marriage with Mt. Yotei. I recommend this to all art lovers who come to !!

Such a wonderful way to draw international travelers like myself who are “visiting the Niseko region in search of sweetest snow.” Making the whole Niseko experience more diverse, aesthetically and culturally inclusive. Fabulous way to raise awareness of Otaru Art Base and its exhibition of ukiyo-e prints. My family look forward to seeing more of these joint-ventures of pop up exhibitions in December and January annually.

Went there today while it was rainy. Nice, beautiful tower with a cafe. The place is not crowded at all with only 1 or 2 people. No tickets are required, and there is free entry.

Cocktail bar
Toshiro’s Bar, a beloved local establishment in Hirafu, has recently moved to a new location at Sansui Niseko for the upcoming winter season. This cozy bar is renowned for its extensive collection of carefully curated whiskey and gin from around the globe.
If you're a fan of Japanese whiskey, then you may enjoy the variety of flight options Toshiro's bar offers! Though pricey, there were many hard to get options, so definitely it's worth a splurge of you can afford it. Otherwise, just come for the chill and classy atmosphere of this bar with very welcoming and attentive hosts. A very solid option after a day on the slopes nearby!

TOSHIRO'S BAR トシローズバー Fantastic experience we both had a very talented Mixologist, it's such a nice I was amazed to see the way he makes the cocktails. I really loved it and she did too. We liked it so much that we would like to go again for pre-drink before our dinner somewhere else. Staff are attentive. The bar was beautifully designed. They do have very good collection of whiskey, including Hibiki (many collection) | would say if anyone visit Niseko please go to Hirafu to enjoy this phenomenal bar Cocktail experience.

The kind of special place that brings you back to a town over and over again. The cocktails are sensational, naturally! Such innovative ideas perfectly executed. The non alcoholic drinks are good too, my matcha ginger beer was fun! But the highlight is the service. Such sweet and friendly people. Heartbreaking to have to leave this bar, we must come back!

As cocktail explorer, me and my husband probably had the best drinks at this bar! Simply the best bar in Niseko! The ambiance, the service, and most importantly the drinks were amazing. They have a wide variety of Whiskeys and cocktails (some are signature ones by Toshiro-san —owner and bartender). We had to come back almost all nights that we stayed in Sansui— it’s that good! Definitely recommend, and a must try is the “Toshigarita” which is probably the best version of Margarita I had. 🤤 and the blue drink that they had in partnership with Molton Brown - they gave me miniature perfume with it too! Overall this is a great experience, best way to unwind and relax after crashing on the slopes 🤣

We missed our bus and stumbled upon this bar while we waited for the next one. How lucky we were… we were seated at the bar and soon realized that the star bartender/mixologist was Toshiro (the owner) himself!! We had cocktail after cocktail, each more special than the last. We even decided to miss the next bus to stay longer. There was a small mishap whereby one of the staff spilled some water next to us (no big deal) but they were beyond apologetic and decided to give us some house-made sour cream and onion popcorn. As it turns out, the very same waiter was Toshiro’s wife. A family business!! They were patient and encouraging while I attempted to order using my basic Japanese and even sent us away with some stickers as keepsakes. We were lucky to find this spot and you will be too. In case you’re interested, we got the Smoked Old Fashioned, the signature Japanese Old Fashioned (with local Nikko whiskey), and Toshiro’s self-described favorite drink to make: the “Toshigarita”, with homemade ginger syrup and smoked chili salt on the rim.

I haven’t explored all Hokkaido has to offer but I can say it’s the best bar that I experienced, serving unique mixology cocktails, whiskey tastings and more. I would definitely return. Thank you toshiro
James M — Google review
Best drinks in Niseko, hands down. Drinks are creative and beautifully presented. Toshiro makes every drink himself, at least when I’ve been there. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching the drink making process. We also had no problem getting seats, which is uncommon for the busy winter season. Hidden gem, will return, thanks for a few good nights! 1yr later update: still the best drinks in Niseko. Toshiro and his wife (I’m so sorry we didn’t get your name!) work seamlessly and efficiently to create the well known omotenashi atmosphere one would expect of a high end bar in Japan. We ended up here three nights in a row - the first night we enjoyed the guest bartender Masato Ishioka and his Don Julio creations. The next two nights we mostly drank the house specialties and whisky. We’ll definitely see you again in the future, thank you!

Izakaya restaurant
Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Izakaya restaurant KAGE in Kutchan-cho, known for its delicious food and cozy atmosphere, has been visited by customers on multiple occasions. During the first visit on a quiet Sunday amidst the Corona Whirlpool period, patrons were able to enjoy a relaxing time without any crowdedness. On the second visit with friends and colleagues on a Friday, everyone was pleasantly surprised to find common coupons applicable from all regions resulting in a full house.
Booked for my huge party of 14 pax for dinner on a really short notice. We ordered the set menu for the group and we were shocked with the amount of food served!! We were all sooo full and the food qualify is decent for the price, and it's all you can drink too! Ventilation can be improved, perhaps opening the door would help. Some music might also help with the vibe.

Definitely the worst experience I had in Japan. Waited for more than an hour after order, they then served me chicken skewer that was RAW ! To add on top of this, while waiting....my whole body got soaked in oily greasy air. Staff were unattentive and I had to bring the raw food to her face to TELL HER ITS RAW MEAT! and I wanted to cancel the rest of this indecent experience. staff told me the food is being prepared and refused to let me cancel. simply put it. Please dont come.

Izakaya restaurant
Yakitori restaurant
Yakitori Torimatsu is a well-established yakitori restaurant in Kutchan, operating for 36 years. They pride themselves on using only fresh ingredients and serving freshly char-grilled yakitori at affordable prices starting from 250 yen for two skewers. The cozy atmosphere and delicious food have made it a favorite among locals, offering an authentic dining experience away from the touristy areas of Niseko.
A typical Yakitori restaurant at Kutchun. Very delicious. Salt added just enough to enhance the taste. Advance booking is necessary. You can take alcoholic drinks and taste the BBQ chicken, pork, beef vegetables and sea food. However, the BBQ chicken is the most outstanding dish, particularly chicken wings. As the food is prepared in front of you, the counter will be hot and smoky. It is a good place for a group of people.

Amazing yakitori place. Many yummy skewers by real charcoal grilled. We sat on the bar table so we saw clearly how all these yummy food were cooked by delicate chef. The setting was done properly by his assistant. Really happy we found this place and arrive early as we didn’t make reservation. Love so much and high recommend !
Helen L — Google review
I had the impression that the Minami-Shinjuku and Yoyogi area had more Yakiton (grilled pork) than Yakitori (grilled chicken), but I have the impression that several upscale yakitori restaurants have been increasing recently! This restaurant is doing a good job of advertising through the media, but the taste is still in its infancy. The idea of skewering cheese in the chochin is good, but the lack of meat or liver makes the taste less perfect 🥺 Finally, it is nonsense to say personal names out loud every time staff members signal to each other in the store😅.
Connie — Google review
Wonderful and affordable Yakitori place but you have make reservation a week or two in advance. The place can be a abit smoky as they do their bbq at the counter so do not wear your best clothes to this place. Love their chicken liver, beef tongue steak, sea snails (they provide as starters), chicken wings, chicken sashimi and the king crab legs. They have interesting dishes like horse and ostrich sashimi too. For drinkers you can get their 2.5l beer that can serve 8 glasses! Very value for money!

Came here through a friend’s recommendation on my first night at niseko. What a night to kick off my trip! Fantastic food and staff made a great dinner, but remember to book in advance as they are normally full. I’d highly recommend the chicken balls, the crab legs, and the mushrooms!

Fantastic yakitori place. Remember to call ahead for reservations. So many good dishes. Won't go wrong with anything. The grilled oysters and grilled ray fish are fantastic. The teriyaki tsukune chicken balls with raw egg are a must have.

Sushi Hanayoshi is a must-visit in Hokkaido for an exceptional dining experience. The owner personally selects the freshest fish from nearby bays every day, ensuring top-notch quality that matches the high level of skill in preparing each dish. With a focus on seasonal seafood, this place offers delicious sushi and sashimi made with the most special catch. Guests rave about the exceptional tuna belly and angler fish liver, along with fantastic drink recommendations at reasonable prices.
This hidden gem was the food highlight of our Niseko trip! We had the set menu and the food and service were absolutely incredible from start to finish! Their ingredients are so fresh and tasty, each dish was prepared perfectly and for the amount and quality of food you're getting the price was reasonable. The head chef Ryohei was so friendly and generous he even gave us extras to try. The entire team of staff were all so pleasant and attentive. This whole experience was beyond our expectation and was definitely the best meal we've had in Niseko. We'll for sure be back again next time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We had great time here, the sashimi is very fresh, the salad is delicious, especially the Hokkaido fried potato shreds. The waitress is very nice and she is very friendly to my son. We had a great experience.

Below average, don’t come. We arrived and ordered the Hana omakase set and a bottle of sake. We were not asked at any point if there’s anything we didn’t prefer or didn’t eat. We ordered a ¥15,000 and we got cheap tall sake glasses. The sashimi started out fine but it was rare to find octopus sashimi at an expensive restaurant. Then we had a seafood salad, it was interesting and the friend shoestring potatoes gave the salad a nice crunch. But the seafood was lacking and overall not high quality - scallop skirts, thin slices of tasteless tuna and salmon and some octopus bits. The salad dressing was a store bought sesame dressing. Before we had finished the salad, we were served chawanmushi (steamed egg custard). But before we could even start that, a massive tuna collar was served. Pacing was definitely very off. We asked for the meal to be slowed down. The star of the dinner was the grilled tuna collar. This was well executed, very flavourful but missing a citrus sauce to cut the fattiness. We were served a giant oyster (no explanation where it was from) and it was super milky and creamy. It is fine but I personally prefer crispier oysters. This is a preference and not an issue with the oyster. After that we were served sushi. The ikura had no flavour, the toro was tough and had ligaments, the pre prepared gunkan had soggy seaweed and the raw surf clam is just not for everyone. 80% of the surf clam was left on the table. And they serve staff didn’t ask if everything was okay and also just left lots of plates with a few bits of food left on the table. The second round of sushi was better, but nothing really interesting or unexpected. We ordered a second bottle of sake ¥20,000 and we were given normal glass cups this time. Was it terrible? Some parts were. Would I come back? Definitely not. There are so many better options at ¥16,000 per person.

The food is so delicious and from the presentation to the ingredients, everything is impeccable! Besides this, the staff are super friendly and too bad we don’t speak Japanese, but they chatted and laughed with all the guests, love the atmosphere!! Although we don’t speak Japanese, they all gave us big smiles!! The set menu price is sooo good!

Despite specifying that children under 12 were not allowed, there were two local children. There were two local women at the counter. And our party. We ordered a decent sake, no ritual choosing of our sake cups. There was only a set menu with no specifics e.g. chawanmushi, grilled dishes, 8 pieces nigiri sushi, dessert. Service was perfunctory and fast, too fast until we asked them to slow down (after the seafood salad arrived with the grilled tuna collar). Seafood salad contained unidentifiable bits except for 4 slices of salmon and loads of leaves. Chawanmushi was very plain and I found 2 lumps of chicken, a ginkgo nut and a slice of fish cake. The sushi was ordinary and in some cases bland. No one had asked us whether we had any dietary restrictions or preferences so we all left pieces we don’t normally eat. A disappointment as I’d been there two years running pre Covid with friends who hv a house nearby.

We had an amazing dinner with the freshest sashimi and sushi. We had the counter seat and it was mesmerising watching the chef at work. Each bite was delicious and it was well worth the drive out. The owners were very lovely and tried their best to engage in conversation with us even if english wasn’t their native tongue. We will definitely return again if we return to Niseko.
Cindy X — Google review
33000 per head omakase dinner, providing sashimi with fish bone, cheap fish, poor dish presentation. There are total 11 of us attending this dinner with our private room. The chef didn’t serve us at all, the food are providing in a big dish. There are no good food at all, the only little uni sushi is not sweet, and there are so many dishes with salmon. Looks like a 3300 set rather than a 33000 yen omakase. I do not recommend this restaurant at all unless you hate the person so much you can ask him or her to go here. Very disgusting food experience in here.

Nestled along the scenic Niseko Panorama Line, the Yumoto hot spring sulphur pond is a captivating natural wonder that showcases the raw beauty of geothermal activity. With a circumference of 200 meters and an impressive flow rate of about 1,000 liters per minute, this vibrant swamp offers visitors a unique glimpse into nature's power. The soothing sounds and steam rising from the pond create an enchanting atmosphere that invites you to pause and appreciate your surroundings.
A great sulfuric hot spring could be observed nearby. The hydrogen sulfide might be released from the bottom of the pond, it is better not to get into the pond. Hot and cold water is mixed to fit for the optimum temperature for people to relax at Yukichichibu Onsen.

Kutchancho Asahigaoka Ski Area is a local ski resort that offers great value for money. The resort features two courses, one of which has a moderate slope while the other is suitable even for beginners, ensuring a safe experience for all skill levels.
Awesome ski field with free cross country ski rental! Just fill out a form, hand it to the ticket office and you're on your way! Highly recommend. Great beginner chairlift for skiers and snowboarders

Cute little ski area. Great for beginners. I came on a day where the lifts were free! Unfortunately no ski/snowboard hire at the location, so I would recommend exploring some of the local options in town before dropping in (not far from the ski area). They had free cross country skis for hire though. That was a new and fun experience. All in all great day. Lovely people. Cute little ski area.

Best value skifield for a half day if you want to get your ski legs back after a long time away from the skis. the 1000 yen 11 trips lift pass is a quaint cardboard tag you wear on your arm and they punch it each time you go past. The lift is a pair lift and from the top there are two easy runs to the left back to the ski lift ( or if you schuss at the end you can ride to the ticket office without needing to walk); and, if you turn right off the lift, a steeper (30 degree??) slope thats the most visible one from the roaad, to do some drills on technique. Across from the skifield and road is a big field that has a XC ski circuite going around it. From the top of the lift you get a pretty expansive view of Kutchan. Last visited Feb 2023

(Translated by Google) Although it is a local ski resort, it is a good ski resort where you can ski the same snow quality as Niseko's ski resort at a cheap price. There are two courses: one with a moderate slope and one where even beginners can ski safely. I think the cost performance is quite good as the coupon ticket (11 times) is 1000 yen for adults. Unfortunately, even though it said that QR code payments were possible, the person at the lift ticket counter told me that they couldn't do it today, so I would have to pay in cash. If you can't do it today...does that mean your response changes depending on the day? The Shu Ogawara Museum of Art showcases the works of a local artist who ventured into Western-style painting at Tokyo School of Fine Arts. At 60, he traveled to China, Tibet, and India, which influenced his art. The museum offers a stunning view of Mt. Yotei and features a grand piano in the reception area that can play for an hour. Visitors can appreciate the art quietly and calmly while enjoying friendly staff and affordable postcards for sale.
Great place , wonderful paintings, and amazingly polite staff. Would recommend to any art lover. If you have some time to spend in Kutchan, definitely visit it. The ticket price includes a visit to the historical museum that is nearby as well, which is very informative and presents the nature and history of the region in a great way!

It was an interesting showcase of the works of a local artist. The highlight for me was the grand piano in the reception area, which I was able to play for an hour. There was nobody around, and I was finally able to reunite with a piano after giving up my dreams of becoming a musician several years ago. It was like an unexpected meeting with a lost lover, and we spent our time singing together under the view of the magnificent Mt Yotei. The staff were really friendly and nice, and thanked me for the music. There was free coffee after the visit, and they told me to come back to play the piano again. It was a beautiful encounter I will never forget.

Izakaya restaurant
If you find yourself in Kutchan, make sure to visit Namichanchi, a beloved local izakaya that showcases the best of Hokkaido's culinary offerings. With a menu boasting over 100 dishes, including fresh sashimi and flavorful yakitori, there's something for everyone. The restaurant prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients, ensuring every bite bursts with the essence of Hokkaido. One standout dish is their unique onion blossom—visually stunning and delicious!
Delicious meal at this yakitori joint. Even though my family came here to have dinner, the chef was able to accommodate our large orders and the food was very delicious.

(Translated by Google) Visited in March 2015 It wasn't that crowded at the time, but I saw a lot of groups of regulars coming back from work. When we visited, all of the customers were Japanese, and even though we were in the Niseko area, the prices were set at a reasonable price for normal Japanese customers. I especially recommend the deep-fried onions that look like they've bloomed flowers, and the crispy potatoes. Izakaya restaurant
Marukyu Shoten, an izakaya restaurant that is immensely adored, stands out for its exceptional cuisine. Patrons rave about the delectable dishes, such as sushi, cuttlefish, karaage, and potato chips. The sushi in particular receives high praise, rekindling a love for this culinary delight even among those who had previously shunned it due to an unfavorable initial encounter. While the food merits commendation, some drawbacks hinder a perfect rating.
Cheap and good! Hands down. Friendly staffs. Even with a tax of 300yen+ /person inclusive of a drink I will still go again anytime.
Ethan O — Google review
Food was not bad. We waited very long for the potato cheese and almost wanted to cancel the order. It was also disappointing as I assumed it was be flooded with cheese but just a few drizzle. Extremely noisy place and I can’t even hear myself talking. They have cover charge 450 with drinks and 700 without drink per pax. my friend ordered a drink but he didn’t like so gave it to me. The waitress insisted that he did not finish the drink, thus not counted and continue to charge 700 instead. Beware of this scam place. No where to park infront of the shop too. Added: By the way, I went to another izakaya place on a separate occasion, they do not have cover charge. Not sure how common is it. I don’t think the waitress stood there and watched us drink btw.
Jiaxin — Google review
Very clean dinner place with decent food. You have to order via a QR code. It’s in Japanese. No English equivalent. You should order from their daily specials, rather than primarily from the menu. That’s what they recommend. Their tuna steak is excellent! And so is their fried chicken and calamari. Recommended.
Ron Y — Google review
I love this restaurant. Why? The food is just great. I tried some of the foods like sushi, cuttlefish, karaage, potato chips etc. The sushi in particular is good. I only tried sushi once and decided not eat anymore probably because I didn't like my first experience but after eating the sushi from this shop I loved sushi again. The 4 stars is because the place is rather small and after few minutes got too crowded. I didn't like that they allowed smoking around on the table. Moreover the bartenders were a bit slow to respond to requests. Aside from all those I recommend マルキュー商店.
Kennedy N — Google review

Make a booking or arrive early as this place is often full by 6:30pm. We tried lots of different dishes which were all excellent. It helped that they have a menu with English & photos along with a specials menu (not in English - use google translate as the specials are delicious).

Soba noodle shop
Rakuichi Soba is a highly sought-after dining spot, with long queues forming before it even opens for lunch. Led by Soba Master Tatsuru Rai, this 12-seater restaurant offers an authentic experience. The noodles are freshly made on the spot and all dishes are prepared with care. The simple-looking food surprises diners with its wonderful flavors. Despite the difficulty in securing a reservation, the warm and cozy atmosphere makes it well worth the wait.
Our 2nd Year back to this amazing restaurant. The food , the family , the zen energy of this place leaves you happy humble and filled with love and respect for this families story and journey to become one the the most famous and exceptional places to eat in Japan . There’s a reason you have to book so many months in advance .

We had an amazing dining experience at this cozy restaurant. Reservations are a must to experience its culinary delights. Despite initial hesitations about its focus on soba, we were pleasantly surprised. While the soba stood out, every dish was expertly crafted and delicious. We'll definitely be recommending and revisiting this gem during our next trip.

What an experience! The service was beyond amazing, and the owners were super friendly. We were able to reserve a table in advance for lunch and enjoyed a multiple course tasting. Everything was presented like beautiful art and you can tell they really take pride in their craft. I highly recommend to anyone stopping by Niseko to experience this wonderful meal!

Excellent soba noodle restaurant, they make it from scratch in front of the guests, the chef uses different kind of stick to roll the dough…... Owner is a very lovely old couples, lady boss is very elegant looking and friendly. Food overall is great, except the sabu sabu is not really our taste (but that’s just a personal thing as we prefer sukiyaki more than plain fish stock sabu sabu)………

Exquisite kaiseki meal. Every course was sublime. Delicious and meticulously served. The soba at the end was the best part. The soba water and soup was the perfect finisher to this luxurious meal. We also had the gold leaf sake which was dry and perfect with the meal. Amazing service. Must book far in advance. Highly recommended.

Made a booking online after recommendation from a friend. Wasn't sure if to book for 3 pax dining or 4 pax as I was bringing along my 4 mth old baby. Appreciate the email communications (in English) to clarify. They even checked if my other child (<12 yrs old) prefers grilled/cooked vs raw food. It's run by a lovely couple and their son, Tatsuru Rai & Midori were SUPER friendly :) Precovid, it was one of the hardest reservations to score for Niseko. Thankfully as Japan just reopened and we had come before the ski season, we managed to get a reservation and were the only guests for the night. Every dish was scrumptious, oishi!! 👍🏼8 course meal with melon ice cream for dessert 😋😋 Watching soba master make fresh soba from scratch was a special experience. He made it look so easy, surreal. Definitely practiced to perfection. We enjoyed the dinner very very much! Highly recommended! His son will be running an izakaya next door from mid Dec 2022. Hope to check it out the next time we visit Niseko =)

A small admission fee of only 200 yen per adult is required. If the weather is unfavorable or if you need to keep kids entertained, this museum is a perfect way to spend an hour or two.
I had a really good time at the museum. I was the only one there. The wide variety in its collection painted a really vivid picture of Kutchan, from nature to history and everything in between. I really learnt a lot from this museum. The staff were incredibly nice too. There is also a library, and I hope to return again to read some of the exciting encyclopaedias.

I was truly amazed by the museum. I decided to visit the museum purely out of the blue, as the sudden raining sky interrupted my skiing plan. While waiting for the rain to stop, I looked for a place to kill some time and that’s how I discovered the gem. It’s a small museum located in the Kutchan town, a bit further from everything else. The small museum has a wide range of collection covering the nature landscape, floral and fauna in the area as well as the cutrual heritage of the local community. The abundance of animal specimens and household tools the small museum collects is surprising. What I like the most is the living scenario based exhibition. The museum sets up many rooms to restore the various aspects of local’s life in the Kutchan area, from skiing gears, train station, typical household to classrooms. An amazing little museum and I truly appreciate all the effort the local community put into it to preserve and show case such rich cultural and natural history.

Kutchan Catholic Church is a petite and enchanting place of worship where services are conducted in Japanese. What sets this church apart is their willingness to assist with translations of the most important parts into English. At this church, one can truly experience the tranquility bestowed by God and engage in heartfelt worship. It is indeed a privilege to have such a divine establishment located in Kutchan, offering solace to its community members.
A small charming Catholic Church, the service is in Japanese but they offer help translating the most relevant sections into English. Ramen restaurant
Sapporo Ramen Daishin Niseko branch is a renowned ramen restaurant in Sapporo, with global acclaim from travelers. Located in Niseko, it offers an authentic taste of Sapporo ramen, a dish deeply rooted in Japanese culinary tradition since the 60th year of the Showa era. The restaurant invites visitors to embark on a flavorful journey through time with every bowl of their soulful ramen.
The food quality is good but the waiting time can be a challenge especially during winter. There can be inconsiderate diners who choose to continue chatting even after finishing their meal knowing that there is a long line of people waiting. Generally a pleasant experience at reasonable prices. Can choose to complete the meal with an ice cream. Just expect to wait a while to be seated.

Excellent miso ramen!!! Large portions with thick slices of meaty pork. The miso broth is exquisite, done just nice. We also had the spicy version. It was a tad oily, but still tasty nonetheless. They also have gyoza. In all, we had a pleasant and memorable dining experience. The menu had English. There is limited parking in front. I’ll be back for more as a return customer. They also sell delicious ice cream! Highly recommended. Thumbs up!

Best ramen we’ve had in Hokkaido so far. we are ramen fans and have tried few of them from airport Chitose all the way to Niseko. The wait is quite long as the restaurant is small. We had the shoyu based soup, as I personally do not like rich thick broth. My 6yo daughter really enjoyed her roast pork rice meal as well. Highly recommend!

Miso butter ramen is to die for in a cold winter’s day. Unlike other eateries in Hokkaido, this place doesn’t mind serving non Japanese speaking customers and they will give you a buzzer whilst you wait for your table, so you can wait inside your own car without becoming frozen in this harsh weather, which is quite thoughtful.

Super good ramen, not expensive at all. Two families with 8 people for lunch costs ¥12000. This restaurant is just off the main road in Kutchan very close to the MaxValu. It took us 15mins to drive here from our rental holiday house “Mountain Butterfly” in Kabayama (Hirafu). There is parking for about 10 cars in front of the restaurant but it gets full quickly at peak times. There is soft serve Hokkaido milk ice cream on the menu. This place is also very kid friendly (we had 4 kids that day), but I don’t think they expect you to sit around and chat.
