Banjarmasin in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Banjarmasin, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Banjarmasin offers a distinctive river-based way of life, with houses, mosques and markets lining an extensive network of canals. Its traditional floating markets, such as Lok Baintan and Muara Kuin, are major attractions where traders sell produce directly from wooden boats at dawn. Visitors can explore nearby mangrove and wetland areas by boat, with chances to see proboscis monkeys and other wildlife along the rivers. The city also features notable landmarks like the Sabilal Muhtadin Grand Mosque and provides a gateway to traditional Banjar culture in South Kalimantan.
With favorites like Stadion 17 Mei, Banjar Bungas, and Water Boom Banua Anyar, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Bakso Lapangan Tembak Senayan Jakarta - Duta Mall and Depot Mutiara so you can get the best taste of Banjarmasin while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Menara Pandang Banjarmasin

4.5
(7827)
City park
Menara Pandang Banjarmasin stands as a contemporary icon in the heart of the city, offering breathtaking views of both the urban landscape and the winding Martapura River. Ascend to its observation decks for an unforgettable panorama, especially enchanting during sunrise or sunset. This easily accessible landmark features ample parking and is nestled along a vibrant riverside promenade that buzzes with life on weekends. Visitors can explore numerous street stalls selling local delicacies, including beloved treats like klepon and lupis.
This is a Riverside promenade along the Martapura River that has become the most lively public open space in the city, especially during weekend. You can find hundreds of street stalls selling anything you need. I can find traditional food and cakes easily here (my favourite is the lady who sells klepon and lupis). And of course, the semi floating market is the must-visit site you have to see in this area. Located on floating dock, the market runs by 'acil-acil' or aunties that offer local fresh fruits harvested from the farms upstream. Adjacent to the fruits section you can find popular local food such as Soto Banjar and sate. Along this promenade there is the "Menara Pandang" or observatory tower where you can climb up to view the surrounding from above. Two wooden buildings stand next to the Menara: Rumah Coklat (Brown house) of the library and police-tourism joint office, and Rumah Anno where you can find souvenir shop and café. If you want to explore the city centre from the river, you can get in to the kelothok or traditional boat for susur sungai or river cruise, either for regular or customized route.
Vera D — Google review
This place is one of attraction in Banjarmasin that located in the city center. Pretty easy to reach and there's a spacious place to park your vehicle. Located by the side of Martapura river, this place offers a pretty view of the city with the river on the side. Here we also could ride the boat and take turns around the river. In the evening the place quite crowded as people come around with friends and family here. Few of street food vendors can be found, and there's no entrance ticket to this place, only parking fee about IDR 2.000 for the motorcycle and (probably) IDR 5.000 for car.
Irene S — Google review
It was nice to see the beautiful sunset at the top of menara pandang building. We could not see the city clearly because of the fence to high for common people. It is good to make all visitors save but for taking picture it was quite difficult to do.
Marlita E — Google review
Floating market at the central city of Banjarmasin. Easy access to it... people can taste lots of traditional food, ride jukung round the river and to Pulau Kembang especially on Saturday & Sunday morning. Many events held in this area. I suggest u by motorcycle to come this place coz the parking area is not quite much for the cars
Nana A — Google review
Good place for jogging. Traditional market (floating market) every weekend and wisata susur sungai here on afternoon until night (tour by kelotok around the river). Near this place you can also visit Rumah Anno, at this place you can buy creations of sasirangan on 2nd floor and on 1st floor you can see history of Banjarmasin by pictures.
Cndyard — Google review
One of the landmark of Banjarmasin, located near Martapura river. I can't give too much review because I didn't go to the top because there is only stairs :D. If you wanna take a good pic of Menara Pandang, you should take the boat.
Ika R — Google review
4 stories building. Free to enter. On top of it, you can see martapura river and some of banjarmasin city view. The tower owned by goverment and usually used by local government a place for meeting or event. Only open during the day, so you better set your time. They install alot of lamp, so in the night it is very colourful.
Merlin H — Google review
A good place to enjoy Banjarmasin riverside view. Have a rooftop where you can see the entire siring (riverside pedestrian). This place is large so you can use it to make an event. A lot of kios that sell food and drink nearby so you don't have to walk too far to get some food and drink. One of many Banjarmasin's tourist attraction. (theres a lot of cat here also!)

Taman Siring 0 Kilometer Banjarmasin is a popular waterfront park in the heart of the city, featuring a milestone monument, Martapura River boardwalk, playground, and small stage. The park attracts locals and visitors alike for its regular events and scenic views of the river. The local government provides limited toilet facilities along both sides of the river but charges a fee for their use. Proper parking space needs to be provided as traffic congestion is common on weekends.
It is just like Front River City Garden.. We can sit and enjoy the river view from the garden.. one of Banjarmasin landmark.. If you come to Banjarmasin don't forget to visit this place.. and enjoy the street food "pintol" it is literally meatball..
Edi I — Google review
I am unhappy with Siring 0 Kilometer Park in Banjarmasin has some drawbacks, like incomplete facilities, narrow parking, and unclean toilets. There are also many street vendors around the area, which can cause traffic congestion. The park's layout also needs improvement to make it more comfortable and visually appealing. However, it's still a popular spot, so it's a good idea to prepare beforehand before visiting.
Aprillia A — Google review
A very beautiful walk near the river. Some places need a little care regarding the litters. It has nice spots for taking photos, but it needs an upgrade.
George D — Google review
The place where locals go to. Located at the heart of the city. Government provide few toilets along the two sides of the river around "nol kilometer". It's not a free toilets. Local government should provide proper parking space for crowd and traffic is a certain thing here mostly on weekends. Events are regularly held here. Although been provided with tons of garbage bins, still littering is a problem here. Pedestrian is wide and in a pretty good condition At night the condition is quite bright from the lamps posts installed along road.
Widya W — Google review
It's not bad at all for jogging or having other exercise, especially in cool or breezy weather condition. There are lots of people selling food and other stuffs, and unique stuff like one or two. Please keep the area clean and this is one of those things representing the city.

Scenic Walking Areas
Siring Kota Banjarmasin, also known as the Siring Floating Market, is a must-visit destination in Banjarmasin, South Borneo. This vibrant market showcases a unique cultural experience along the riverside, where wooden boats are filled with an array of local snacks, folk art, and beautiful flowers. The sellers hail from nearby villages and offer traditional foods alongside fresh fruits and even rare exotic varieties sourced from the lush jungles of Borneo.
This is the iconic and famous Siring Floating Market (Pasar Terapung Siring) located in Banjarmasin, South of Borneo, Indonesia. My dear mom's hometown, Banjarmasin, is well known as thousands river city. This floating market will give us a very unique cultural atmosphere. The seller comes from the villagers nearby, they sell traditional local food, vegetables, fresh fruits and sometimes very rare exotic fruits from the deep jungle of Borneo (depending on the season). We can stand at the floating dock and feel it swing each time traditional motor boats passes by the river. You would be amazed by the skillful balance of these sellers who use small boats to offer their goods. If you stroll along the river side, we could reach the local public library and a beautiful building, the Menara Pandang. The boats here also served as tourist boats for river cruising or trips to Pulau Kembang (an island full of monkeys) or Lok Baintan. Next to the floating market, across the bright colorful bridge, you could find the signature Bekantan statue and an old historic temple. We spent at least two to three hours, strolling around the vibrant floating market and watching the river boats traffic. Sometimes, the local band played traditional music. Highly recommended to visit this famous place.

I feel great dissatisfaction with Siring Menara Pandang because there are many street musicians and beggars who force people to give them money. I often see trash scattered everywhere even though trash bins are provided. There are also many drunk people who try to harass women, which makes the place uncomfortable and unsafe.

Finally after the other two Hypermarkets i.e. Hypermart and Giants has opened their stores for some time in Banjarmasin the long waited Transmart Carrefour finally opened on June 6th, 2018. The owner Mr. Chairul Tandjung one of the Indonesian conglomerate with the head office team present in the grand opening ceremonies. The location is very strategic which is the extention of the one and only Duta Mall Banjarmasin. As the tight schedule for catching the Ramadhan festive, it looks like the contractors still has some unfinished job to complete as a lot of building materials around. The local news paper reported that the policemen complained for the lack of coordination during the opening store and making the worst traffic in the surrounding area as the car parking was full and the cars are overflowing to the streets looking for car parking spaces. Transmart Carrefour has its fresh section, bakery and Dokar (Dodolan Bakar) providing satays with various sauces while on the upper level they have department store. The prices very competitive compares to the neighbour hypermart which have been around since the opening of Duta Mall.

Fell in love at the first visit. A good place for shopping with competitive price. Your kid will love this place since Transmart also serve wonderful, tastiest burger in town. You can buy nasi goreng and others menu for your breakfast, lunch or dinner. All comes in fair price. Don't worry. Transmart drastically reduced their product line up after getting hit hard by Covid-19 pandemic, but still a hope for them since people still need Transmart.

Water & Amusement Parks
Waterboom Pesona Modern is a compact but well-maintained water park with a range of activities, including serpentine slides, a wave pool, and lazy river. The park also offers family bungalows and floats for rent. With its palm trees and various Wahana (rides), it's an ideal place to spend a hot day with the family.
We had fun here. Great place to spend your weekend with family and friends. Lots of food can be found inside. The locker rent is Rp. 30.000, tube rent is Rp. 50.000. There's a baby boom pool, wave pool, tide pool, slide pool and the race boom slide is the best one. Best waterboom in Banjarbaru and Banjarmasin area.

Nice and Fun place to spend your family time here. Many various Wahana you can try, they have canteens so you will not get hungry here, and they have some gazebos side of the pool and wahanas.

Somewhat Okay local spot attractions. Average price for ticket fee with its own payment method. The place is great for family vacation to enjoy water park that are some costly and not free. Don't expect to swim around here because it's particular for children pool.
M. Q — Google review
The place is nice, the slide is smooth and not rough, clean, and also very well-maintained.
Noor A — Google review
Quiet nice place to bring your family or friends to swim and rest at the rest area thought you have to rent, well manage, clean and neet with many pools and waterboom. Spent few times there but water is not deep enough so when you slide on the booms always stuck and feel so hot on your back as water is running small. Overall still a nice place to swim🙏🏻🙏🏻
Rudi J — Google review
Waterboom is a nicely maintained water park with numerous activities given its compact size. It is clean and appears to be well operated. There are family bungalows and floats available for rent. I think a great family venue for a hot day.
Rhicke J — Google review
Good place to bring your kids or family for vacations, and dont expect you can "actually" swim here, because this is a waterpark not a regular swimming pool, so the pool is just 100-110cm. -Facility: The facility here is not 100% functional, maybe because there's less people when i visited this place. -bathroom : i see an award on the entrance for the 3rd most clean bathroom in banjarmasin, but when i entered the bathroom ya it's clean but there's some little insect inside it, and i dont like it. -food & beverages : the food is quite nice with small portion, the beverages is good too

It a bit dirty for my standard but nevertheless, if you have nothing better to do, why not try it out. Will cost about 10-15bucks per person.

Water & Amusement Parks
Water Boom Banua Anyar is a delightful water park that caters to families, especially kids and teens. While it features a smaller pool designed for children, many visitors suggest the addition of an Olympic-sized swimming pool for more serious swimmers. The atmosphere is lively with music enhancing the experience, making it enjoyable for all ages. However, there are some areas where cleanliness could be improved to elevate the overall experience. Despite this, Water Boom Banua Anyar remains a recommended spot for fun in the water!
Good for kids and teens. For proper swimming, they should provide one more pool, Olympic-sized.

Very delicious soto (chicken soup in light broth), served with thick rice cake, egg & other condiments. They also sell chicken satay and other food, but seriously their soto is the best. The place is spacious however it can get crowded during lunch time. Live (traditional) Banjar music. There’s also some fruit seller at their entrance, you can ask them to cut and serve the fruit.

Good, doesn't have any problem except there's a lot of mosquitoes AND I really upset when I ask about the available table to the employee. He said it's still closed and just pass by and clean the table like we were didn't there. We came at 7pm, we're so upset and almost leave but then other employee came and serve us. I really doesn't like the first employee attitude,he looks like judging to the customer.

The Lok Baintan Floating Market is a traditional marketplace located on small boats that sail along the river. The market opens in the early morning and sellers approach visitors with their goods, such as fresh fruits, traditional snacks, food, and souvenirs. Visitors can rent a boat from the dock and enjoy a 45-minute ride to reach the market. The marketplace closes before it gets too hot outside, around 7:30 AM.
Nice experience to interact with local boattraders . You can hv coffee and food for breakfast, fruit ,vegetables, and beautifull handicraft to bring along

Saturday - 25 Oct, Wake Up as early at 4 am & the boatman fetch me at the hotel from 5.30am and the jetty is walkable about 10 mins from the hotel only. About an hour later .. that's Lok Baintan FM at the river not canal manmade. Surprisingly not so much to see and a bit disappointed ( That's y I don't believe some reviews in Google and thought better from Bangkok FM - Overrated places & full of scammers) The local womens paddle the sampan selling Fruits, Veggies, Local Kue (Not much likely because too sweet) and others. At the end, I just spend abt 30 mins only.

Floating market at Lok Baintan. You can go to this place to enjoy the traditional way of Banjar people trade on small boats. You can rent a boat from the dock then sail the river for about 45 minutes to reach the market. You should leave at 5:30 AM from the dock. Once you’re here, local seller with small long boat will approach your boat to offer their stuff, mostly fresh fruits, traditional snack, food, and souvenirs. This floating market ended at around 7:30 AM before the sun gets too hot.

A free trip from our hotel (Swiss-Belhotel). Nice view along Martapura river *the locals was taking their shower 😅 The LokBaintan market itself was lovely. The sellers will force you to buy their goods. Just be kind and do not nego. They are all local peoples who dont earn much. We bought all the rice packs from many sellers and give it back to the them for breakfast. The kue was nice amd delicious. Highly recommended.

Ive been here for like 4 times and it is my fixed itinerary if im travelling to Banjarmasin. Maybe other person will get bored by this place, but i just want to feel the traditional vibes. And i like it because its one of a unique an Indonesian culture. Even though some sellers tend to force you to buy their things, but im still enjoy it. What do you expect from a traditional market, right? If you have more time in banjarmasin, dont forget to visit this place. And for your information, if you stay in swisbelhotel borneo, you will get a free trip to Lok Baintan in the morning. They will start the trip at 6AM and will be back at the hotel at 8:15AM. I heard they also have a trip for any people for about 200k round trip, with free breakfast at the hotel. But you need to make sure about this first, hehe.

Bustling market, full of local colour. Go early to witness the sunrise and experience the floating market. You may want to try local food such as soto banjar and sate ayam or various delicacies
Lina J — Google review
Basicly it is a market above the water. Instead of using foot or motorcycle, they used boat to sell and buy things. The item from vendors has many variety. From natural harvest like banana, orange, sawo etc. Their taste is very good, most of them ripe by the tree. Besides that, they also served snack and breakfast like nasi kuning. Up to souvenir like t-shirt and accesories. To get there, you need to rent a boat from banjarmasin, around rp 400.000 and can accomadate up to 14 persons. You need to biard the ship around 5 AM in the morning, so you will arrived in location around 6AM, the best time to shop.

It is a fancy western restaurant located at the second floor of Crystal Bakery. This restaurant's interior is luxurious classic modern style. The foods and beverages mostly are western but modified with indonesian tante. The price is expensive but worth to try. My favourite main dish is lamb chop platter and my favourite snack is calamari. If you want arrange your special occation in this restaurant, i suggest to make an appointment first.

Nice for hangout, good design interior, instagramable, lot or range of menu. Pretty expensive but worth it. Large portion and tasty. Loves the lamb chop platter, tender and juicy.

The place is comfortable. The toilet is clean. We ordered cheese bread, fettuccine, and cordon bleu. The price is so high for me, but my friend paid it all XD. The fettuccine (65k) is the most delicious one i have ever ate in Banjarmasin. The hot milk banana is so fresh. It worth the price. We cannot eat it all, so full, so we asked the waitress to wrap it for us to take it home. Definitely will come again.

Kembang Island, situated in the Barito River delta near the Muara Kuin Floating Market, offers a unique opportunity to observe proboscis monkeys up close. When exploring Banjar City, a culinary gem you shouldn't overlook is RM Lontong Orari. This charming eatery specializes in Lontong Sayur, a delightful dish featuring triangle-shaped rice cakes wrapped in banana leaves and served with a rich young jackfruit curry. The restaurant also offers Nasi Kuning, or fragrant yellow rice, alongside spicy condiments like red curries made from chicken and fish.
one of the must-visit places to eat in Banjarmasin. the lontong is very delicious and authentic, I really like the red spices chicken

Yes for nasi kuning menu. Ney for theirs favour lontong. Indeed, too sweet for me. Portions is quite large for them who eat in average size.price are reasonable
Andy A — Google review
A place where long range radio enthusiasts get together. Offering nasi kuning and the famous lontong (rice cake). Lontong served with 3 options: chicken, haruan (snake head / gabus) and egg. And if you just order one portion, they will serve you double lontong: BIG portion! Theredore, order "separuh" or half, and you will get 1 lontong portion. very nice and highly recommended. Affordable and will make you full for real (double lontong).
Roi P — Google review
A very unique and tasty local food of Banjarmasin. It is very rich in coconut milk, some people might not find it healthy. But it does taste really good. I took away one star just because it wasn’t a good dining in experience for me. I came to the counter to order my food, but nobody seemed to be willing to take my order despite some staff was visibly joking in the nearby kitchen.
Dadang U — Google review
Taste great & generous portion. The photo shows HALF portion of Lontong Komplit (fish, chicken & egg). Definitely recommended if u visit Banjarmasin. But u must sit on the floor if u want to dine here (lesehan).

Taste the Lontong Dish, quite good, the nasi kuning dish also look great, will have it next time
RYAN L — Google review
By far is the best lontong/rice cake meal I've ever tried in my culinary experience. The lontong itself was tender and blend perfectly with the Haruan fish or chicken along with Lodeh - curry soup made of jackfruit with coconut milk, which was the part of the whole set, will make your culinary journey in Banjarmasin complete.
Piter H — Google review
This traditional restaurant serves Lontong Sayur (Rice Cake with young jackfruit curry) and Nasi Kuning (Yellow Fragrant Rice) as main dishes. Most of the dishes are spicy. As condiments, there are Spicy Chicken Red Curry, Spicy Fish Red Curry. The prices are bit higher than similar food stall. But, considering the place, I would say this place is okay. It's recommended as a must-try when visiting Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (South Borneo).

Yes my time here was great. I adore their indoor setup, brings warm welcome to every customer and draw a bold line between the killing hot road outside with calm and cool breeze inside. Love the prompt service, love the hospitality of the crews here and especially love the food. Totally amazing taste! But yet need to be toned down a bit since everything we order this day a bit too salty. All the veggies we order including the Thai basil as the condiment are astonishing. Fresh, crunchy and delicious! Never taste vegetables like this before in my whole life. Even the bitter melon has sweet taste, very nice. I urge you all to try Sari Patin.

If you're a seafood enthusiast, then Dunia Laut 99 in Banjarmasin is an absolute must-visit! The flavors are sure to elevate your dining experience, making it perfect for family gatherings. Dunia Laut 99 stands out not just for its delicious menu but also for its inviting atmosphere.
The relaxing thing about eating here is the ambience and seating, especially at the round tables that provide exclusivity and fans. Some dinners, there's even live music if you want to contribute your voice. The parking area is quite accommodating. For the menu, the tom yum and the fish soup are what I find special. The rest of the menu is ordinary.

I love the food! Taste great, fresh and value for money! Will definitely come back such a joy eating here. The only thing is that they only accept cash , not even debit card . Just a little more mosquitos.... I had to buy a mosquito repellent halfway (which they surprisingly sell there too)

In short: Overpriced restaurant. The foods cost you a fortune with mediocre place and low grade service. With the price that much, I believe customers deserve so much more than what they are giving. THE TASTE IS NOT AS GOOD!!! That's the fatal point.

Ichiban Sushi

Sushi restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Ichiban Sushi is a great place to enjoy Japanese cuisine with family. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes, from high-priced options to more affordable special package menus. While the sushi is a favorite among visitors, other dishes like chicken teriyaki ramen and chicken katsu with rice are also popular. However, some find the ramen less appealing due to personal preference for udon over ramen noodles.
For a good taste, but when I ordered food here the service didn't seem good? I waited quite a long time for my order, the waiter even gave my sushi to someone else? Without looking at the receipt posted on my desk, I still remember🙂, luckily the people at the table didn't want to take it, then I asked where the sushi I ordered went, then my sushi was given, I've been in a bad mood😮‍💨, here I bought hokkaido dori donburi and hokkaido chicken donburi, there are also some sushi, here you can claim birthday sushi by at least buying other food

Good Place to enjoy The Japanese Food. Good place to have a dinner with Family here, but usually while in the rush hour we get in to the waiting list to have table for sit down. Various menu from High price to intermediate price, and they offer a special package menu with affordable price. They offers variuous sushi, japanese ramen, bento and many more.
Elisa — Google review
Awful taste of sushi. Ordered salmon skin sushi, but the salmon skin was very hard to chew, not even edible. Other sushi also didn't taste good, just okay. But other things was okay, like the sevices and the ambience. Don't come here when you're really hungry.

This is the real 💚 green ramen what they had promo, I found a proof in Banjarmasin that is really green--@ To Inchiban Ambarukmo may see this photos to compare how your product is different than others.

I was here last sunday with my sisters and nephews for eating sushi. We tried other dishes too such as chicken teriyaki ramen and chicken katsu with rice (not in frame). After all, everything tasted good. The most favourite is indeed their sushi. The least fav is the ramen. The soup and the beef is tasty, but I dont like the noodle. Perhaps because I prefer udon than ramen. Sooo yeah.
FAJRIAH — Google review
Serves japanese cuisine, sushi, ramen, udon. Lot of japanese menu options...and tasty too. The unagi kabayaki (grilled eel) is very good, love the beef yaki udon too. Great
Nolianto A — Google review
The service was really bad actually! The tasty for some food is good enough but really disappointed with their service. I already sit in the table and the crew ask us to move because there are some people want to merge table and it’s not professional! Please evaluate the crew!
Muhammad K — Google review
Too standard, I took 20-25 minutes only to wait for my bill 😩 They also put "Full table" sign when actually there's so much empty table. The worst thing is I've seen other customer calling the waitress but the waitress didn't answer and go to other table. Like.. you see and hear her but didn't say anything? They don't even taste good just okay. Obviously not a recommended place.

It is highly recommended for group hangouts due to its affordability, quick service, delicious food, and ample parking space for motorcycles. The must-try dish here is their excellent fries which cost less than $1. With menu items ranging from $1 to $3, it caters well to budget-conscious travelers.
This is the place that i have known since my childhood, even know the food still good, the price is average

After being hit hard by the pandemic, Depot 59 underwent major changes, especially their recipe. It has changed a lot and ended up being bad rather than being better. Too bad for them and for the loyal customers.
Wimpie W — Google review
Home for every kind of various ice drink such as juice, ice fruit-cocktail with topping of condensed milk, iced mixed with fruits and syrup, and many more. The service was good and responsive. Good place for groups or family time and also individual.

It's near a Vihara (buddhist / chinese praying place), near schools and open public park. Groupies usually come here to hang out, so it's a very recommendes place for groupies : cheap, fast, tasty, and medium size parking place (fit more than 10 motorcycles) The recommendes menu here is the fries. Super good fries for less than 1 USD. The menu are ranging from 1 USD to 3 USD, so it's good for low budget traveler.

This depot offers diverse menu mix of traditional and Chinese food (cap cay, salad ayam, bakso, mie ayam, sip buntut, soto etc) and what I like is that they have classic dessert such as es teler and es kacang ijo. The price is normal. The place is just ok (has not been changed that much since the first time I visited this place on 2008).

self service, and the atmosphere was very hot, plus the floor for those lying on the floor was exposed to traces of burnt smoke, so it was dirty when you walked. the vegetables are delicious but not the chili sauce
