Goryokaku Park, located in the center of Hakodate city, is a former 1800s fort that has been transformed into a picturesque park with picnic areas and an abundance of cherry blossom trees. The park's star-shaped design holds historical significance as it was the site of the final battle between the old Shogunate army and the newly formed government forces. Visitors can explore restored ancient buildings within its premises, such as the Hakodate Magistrate's Office.
What a great park. While not all the cherry blossoms were in bloom it was great to explore the park and fort, people watching as we went. It's a long walk from the cruise port, but well worth it!

I loved Goryokaku Park, the cherry blossoms were at full bloom this year on 27th April it was lovely witnessing such a event that's happening ❤️. The park was well maintained and I totally loved it .100 percent recommended to visit here during the spring season .

We are so lucky to be here when cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Imagine you are wandering around in a sakura forest, all surrounded by floating white "clouds", it is an unique and wonderful experience that you will never forget. I think this park is even more eye-pleasing than some sakura parks in Tokyo.
Ngoc N — Google review
This park set in a historical fort of an island with a moat all round it, is a beautiful park to visit if you are in Hakodate. The grounds of the park are nice for walking or just sitting in the shade under one of its many trees. And there is also a historical building at this park - the Old Hakodate Magistrate's Office - that might be worth your time to visit.
Edtayjb — Google review
Beautiful gardens next to the tower and the Magistrate House. We missed Cherry Blossom season by about a week - would have been amazing as there are 1200 cherry tress in the fort area!

Beautiful area to walk around when the cherry blossoms are out. We were there in very late April and they were in full bloom.
Martin C — Google review
Spectacular view with a great history. A must visit if in hakodate. Take a trip to the observation tower. If the weather permits to also take a stroll on the park.
Freckle S — Google review
Didn't get to see the cherry blossom in full bloom. Very sad. I sure it would of been absolutely amazing first week of April.

Historical place
Goryōkaku is a late-Edo period fortress located in Hakodate, Japan. The star-shaped fort was built to defend Hokkaido against potential Russian attacks and was later used in a significant battle during the Meiji Restoration of 1869. Today, the park surrounding Goryōkaku is known for its beautiful cherry blossoms, making it a popular destination for visitors. Additionally, the night view from Mt.
Insanely beautiful during cherry blossom season around early May. You can easily spend a few hours here, going up to the tower and seeing the star shape from above, and taking a stroll through the premises. Highly recommend a stop here, though do note it can get a bit crowded during peak times.
Alvin W — Google review
A big park with wonderful greenery of flowers and trees. The historical building in the centre of the park was pretty. There are open spaces for big crowds. Walking around the park on a hot summer day was not too bad.

Very beautiful park and outdoor area with much to explore and learn about. I loved strolling the grounds at a leisurely pace to take in its beauty and peace. Many areas to sit and rest at as well as plaques to learn of the history. Plenty of people watching available too. Even with none to minimal cherry blossoms, it was still a beautiful adventure and full of peace 🤗

Goryōkaku is one of Hakodate’s most iconic spots, a star-shaped fort built in the 19th century that has now become a peaceful public park. Once a battleground in Japan’s final samurai war, today it’s a place where history and beauty meet. In spring, nearly 5,000 cherry trees bloom around the moat, creating a breathtaking pink star when viewed from above. Walking through the wide grounds feels calm and relaxing, while the nearby Goryōkaku Tower gives you the best panoramic view of this unique landmark. A perfect mix of history, nature, and scenery.

Must visit place when you visit Hakodate free entrance for the park, bring your picnic mat , stroll around, and don't forget to visit the historical building the goverment residence for 500 yen ticket . On September the weather is so perfect and less of crowd.Find the stamp at the ice cream shop for free souvenir

Beautiful and relaxing place to visit. Pay to visit the reconstruction building, Hakodate Magistrates Office at the forts centre. It’s wonderful and takes you back to the Meiji period and the challenges of maintaining power. Great.

Tower is 1200 yen, old office is 500 yen. It was beautiful and calm area. We can learn old Hakodate history.

A very interesting place to visit. There’s was a full on drama recreation of the events of the Battle of Goryokaku! Men, women, teenagers and kids were all dressed up for the part. There was even the token white guy to play the part of some general from the British (I think) navy. I missed most of the show…. The show is free but they collect donations after it ends. There are several show during the day. Not sure of the time though.

Shrine
Sacred & Religious Sites
Nestled just a 10-minute stroll from Nanae Station on the JR Hokkaido Hakodate Main Line, Mishima Shrine is a captivating destination steeped in history. Established in 1504, this grand shrine honors the deities Oyamazumi-no-Mikoto and her daughter Konohanasakuya-hime-no-Mikoto, originally enshrined from Omishima Island in Ehime Prefecture.
(Translated by Google) 2024.08.07 ・The day I visited was the first day of the regular festival at Mishima Shrine. Since I visited the shrine in the morning, it seemed like they were busy preparing for the festival, which would get into full swing in the afternoon, such as setting up stalls and preparing yakitori. The light blue torii gate is so refreshing. ・It's a summer festival for 3 days from today. It's been a while since I've seen a handwritten sign. It brings back a nostalgic feeling. ・Once you pass through the first torii gate, you will see a straight approach to the shrine, above which you will see the second torii gate and the shrine building. -Go through the second torii gate and there was a water purification facility on the left. The festival atmosphere is lively, with tents for the annual festival. ・The natural stone washbasin is beautifully decorated with fresh flowers. It's colorful and very pretty. ・The shrine building has a bit of history, but you can see that it has been well-maintained. The flags are also erected, adding to the spirit of the regular festival. ・The shiny polished floor inside the shrine building is a pleasant sight to behold. ・The gourd-shaped ``Furetone'' statue made from a sacred tree is enshrined here. It is said that if you touch it, your wishes will come true. ・There was a shrine office on the right side of the shrine building, on the side of the town hall. It seems that they sell goshuin stamps and amulets. ・When I asked the person at the shrine about goshuin, they said that they do not handle it during the annual festival. When I tried to excuse myself by saying that I had no prior connection, the other person said, ``If you don't mind leaving it as a note, I'll take care of it.'' thank you very much. ・Thank you for providing Goshuin seals even when you were busy preparing for the festival. There were many types of stamps, but I received the most common Goshuin stamp. This is a goshuin stamp with impressive strong characters. ・The first fruit fee was 500 yen, which was a set with water fortune-telling, so I offered it to you. For water fortune telling, you ask Chikako to give you a blue paper with the number written on the fortune stick, dip it in the spring water known as Yujosui, and read the fortune telling from the letters that emerge. ・I was lucky enough to be able to attend the annual festival. Old men from the area had also gathered and seemed to be busy making preparations. As I talked a little with the people at the shrine, I realized that it was an important event for the local community, with the children setting up stalls, throwing rice cakes, and carrying mikoshi (portable shrines), and the adults participating in various raffles. ・There was a nostalgic shrine festival here that I experienced when I was a child. I hope it continues to stay in the area forever.

(Translated by Google) I visited the shrine without knowing it was a festival day, but I was treated very kindly. The shrine maidens started throwing rice cakes, so I couldn't do the water divination. I was impressed by the vermilion-dyed mouths of the guardian lions. It's clear that this shrine is loved by the locals.

(Translated by Google) 2025-05-12 There used to be a place where you could get water from Mt. Yokotsudake a while ago, but it seems to have disappeared, so I gave up. Then I saw that you could get water from the shrine, so I went there. The water from Mt. Yokotsudake is indeed quite sweet. Compared to the tasteless and odorless water from Mt. Yotei, it's quite sweet. Perhaps for security reasons, there was no donation box like the one other people took a picture of, so I just put in some coins at the shrine. About. A sacred water called ❬Yujosui❭ gushes out within the temple grounds. This goshuin is a first-fruits gift that includes water fortune-telling. I was given water fortune-telling paper and dipped it in spring water. It seems that one letter appears. Well Since it was evening, the person at the company office probably wanted to go home early, so the explanation was sloppy. “How can I see the results of water fortune telling?” When I asked Just point your finger and say, "It's over there." It wasn't there "over there" (tears). I couldn't find any explanatory signs, so I was able to confirm the results from the photos posted by everyone. (lol) It's not God's fault; it's man's fault. (Translated by Google) I think the shrine itself is fine. I once was helping out at a festival, serving tea, when the priest's mother slapped my hand and said, "The mayor goes first!", which was quite unpleasant. I was just there to save face as an acquaintance. I'm not from the area, and I don't know who the mayor is, or who the chairman or president of some company is. If that's the case, I should have just shown them to the seat of honor. They probably thought of me as a maid, and didn't even say thank you. More than anything, that attitude is disrespectful to the gods they serve. Nestled in the heart of Hokkaido, the Nanae Town Historical Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the region's rich past. Established shortly after Ezochi was renamed Hokkaido, this museum showcases an array of exhibits that change with the seasons, including artifacts from the Ainu culture and various historical periods like Jomon and Edo. (Translated by Google) The Nanae Town History Museum is a paid facility. I was wondering, ``Is there any history in this area?'' However, people have been living here since the Jomon period, and there were exhibits of pottery and clay figurines. After that, the history becomes thinner, but at the end of the Edo period, the history becomes thicker with events such as the Northern Kego, the opening of Hakodate port, and the Boshin-Hakodate War. There is also a commentary on the hardships of pioneering during the Meiji period, and provides a detailed history of Nanae Town, which became one of Hokkaido's leading fruit producing areas, including apples. I entered the museum thinking I was just killing time, but it was worth seeing. Niyama Kogen is a local ski resort that strives to remain open every year, offering varying lift prices but great value. It's ideal for practice with fewer crowds and high powder rates, sometimes rivaling Niseko. The rugged terrain provides affordable and easily accessible skiing, with a charming atmosphere. The rental prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. Despite occasional operational limitations, visitors can enjoy smooth snow and kind staff at this great spot for beginner skiers.

(Translated by Google) The snow quality is Hokkaido, so it's good. For first-time visitors, the course can be difficult to understand and the signboards can be difficult to understand. It is better to ask a staff member. Lift fees are a little high, probably due to high oil prices. Women can ride cheaply on ladies' tickets. There is a cafeteria, but the food is at the level of a factory cafeteria (maybe even worse), so it's enough to fill you up. The 28th of every month is Insan Day, and it's delicious that lift fees are half price. The view from the ski slope is nice. If you come for the night game, you may be able to see the beautiful night view of Hakodate. I skied for an hour and a half with my sister. I did it a total of 5 times. I would like to see a 5-time lift ticket included. Also, the old man at the ski rental shop has a unique way of dealing with the countryside. Some people may feel bad. If you are unlucky, you will receive inferior products. There may be cases. My ski size doesn't fit me. to the lift attendant I had it fixed. Compared to the newly opened Nanae Snow Park, the facilities are old and inferior. In terms of interesting ski courses and reasonable prices, I think this long-established resort has the upper hand. Supports smartphone payments such as aupay. I would like to give 4 stars if the customer service attitude improves.

Lift prices vary depending on the year, but the cost performance is the best! It's perfect for sneak practice as there aren't too many people 🎵 Since there aren't many people, the powder rate is high, and depending on the day you can enjoy snow as good as Niseko. Hakodate Nanae Snow Park is a serene ski resort nestled in a forested area, just an hour's drive from Hakodate. It offers a cable car ride to a mountaintop cafe with breathtaking views and summer hiking trails. The park is located near Onuma Quasi National Park and provides opportunities for sledding, snow play, and gondola lift rides to enjoy the magnificent scenery.
BEEN IN JAPAN FOR 3 WEEKS SO FAR AND THIS IS THE MOST FUN IVE HAD IN A SINGLE DAY. KNEW NOTHING ABOUT SKIING GOING INTO THE DAY AND ENDED UP CHALLENGING THE MOUNTAIN BY THE END OF THE DAY
Jacob D — Google review
This scenic snow-capped mountain ski resort offers breathtaking views. For first-time visitors, it's recommended to make a phone reservation for snow gear rentals 2-3 days in advance. However, those arriving early can still secure equipment through on-site rentals without significant concern about stock depletion. The slopes tend to be relatively steeper - beginners may want to test their skills on the short practice chairlift before attempting the main gondola ride to higher elevations. The price for ropeway ticket is 5000 yen. The price of equipment renting is around 6000 yen.
Xianhui L — Google review
The gondola closed at 3:45 which was too early. The old man who monitored the chairlift was impatient and impolite to the tourist. On the whole, it was a good place for beginner to practice, the course was wide and less tourist visiting. Nevertheless, bring your own gear was preferred as the rental gear quality was not good and looks old
Kelvin W — Google review
The place is good for beginners. Rental is cheap though the material is correspondingly poorer - it’s doable for beginners. Slopes are gentle. Ski lifts are also cheap.
Wl Y — Google review
For any English-speaking tourists: avoid this place at all costs. While the snow park itself is decent, the facilities and staff are not prepared to accommodate international visitors. The amenities are extremely limited, leading to long queues, and there often aren’t enough snowboards available for rent. The staff, particularly the two women at the rental counter, were some of the rudest I’ve ever encountered in Japan. They don’t speak any language other than Japanese and even laugh at you for speaking another language, which is completely unprofessional. Stop wasting your money—head to the snow parks in Sapporo instead!
Mary T — Google review
Take the morning train from Hakodate, then transfer to free shuttle bus, it takes approximately one hour from city center. Great access, wide slopes with various courses, not as international as Niseko but definitely recommend for those who wants less crowds!
Cherry R — Google review
First time ever skiing, I came to Nanae snow park. The ‘easiest’ run was intimidating, but after completing it I did it 4 more times! There was no snow tubing like we thought.
Annie — Google review
There was nice snow even in the end of March. Most of people skiing there were local and they left around the noon which is the best for snow condition. Not crowded at all. Some people say the skiing courses are for beginners. Definable yes for skiing but for snowboarding it wasn’t. A few courses were completely flat and hard to go forward without taking off the board. We could enjoyed since we have experiences before but beginner boarders were suffering from this flat course and stuck completely.

Yakko Sushi is a hidden gem located along National Route 5, just a short drive from JR Hakodate Station. This charming sushi spot has gained popularity not only for its fresh sushi but also for its impressive steak lunch set, which draws in both locals and visitors alike. On my recent visit during lunchtime, I noticed the restaurant was bustling with patrons, many of whom were dining solo or enjoying meals with friends. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as customers eagerly awaited their orders.
Excellent value. 1500yen all in per person for the lunch set. Nigiri was nice, steak was excellent. Tempura crispy. Even pickles were nice.
Jingkai P — Google review
Small restaurant with 8 counter seats and 3 4-seaters. We had the nigiri, steak and tempura sets, which was excellent. The accompanying side dishes of chawanmushi, soup, tofu were all top notch. All these and the bill won't break your wallet.

In general it is decent for $2700yen. Filling. Although there is too much rice for the sushi and it’s not the most memorable. But it was open late at night and the lady servicing was friendly. Folks do smoke at a corner and smoke do come in. It can also take time. There is parking outdoors

(Translated by Google) 24 minutes by car from JR Hakodate Station. The nearest station is JR Nanae, which takes about 4 minutes by car. A local sushi restaurant located along National Route 5/Akamatsu Kaido. I visited for the first time during lunch time after seeing my favorite blogger's blog and posts on Tik Tok Lite. Even though it's a sushi restaurant, the Japanese-style steak set is popular. There are 4 parking spaces in front of the store. It opens at 11:30, but we got information that there would be a line before it opened, so we arrived 30 minutes early. I was the first one (lol). People came one after another. I was surprised when I was standing in line when the man behind me suddenly started smoking. Stop it! ? There are 8 people seated at the counter inside the store. There are three tables for four people in the raised seating area. I ordered the limited quantity Japanese style steak set. Wait 30 minutes for your food to be served. A piping hot steak on a griddle. There was lemon and butter on top. The meat is extremely tender and the unique sweet sauce and buttery flavor combine to make it very delicious! ! This sweetness is according to blogger information. ``Apples from Nanae and onions from Hokkaido "Because it's being used." Accompanying vegetables are french fries, eggplant, and green peppers. The fried tofu came with miso soup, rice, pickles, and chawanmushi. You can see that everything is carefully made. Very delicious. Time to enjoy happiness ♡ Ice cream was also served for dessert. The store filled up quickly, and customers kept coming in, but the store staff kept saying, "We're full." this is I want to eat it again. Next time, I might try adding the Japanese-style steak separately to the sushi set♪ By the way This lunch seems to be available on Saturdays and Sundays as well. but! ! The restaurant staff told me that lunch is not available on Saturdays and Sundays because they usually have reservations for banquets and memorial services. Please check by phone. So I adjusted my schedule and went on a Friday in October 2024. I was planning to go on Saturday, but apparently there was a memorial service scheduled that day. Good ♪ It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. (Translated by Google) I found out later that the restaurant was very popular for lunch. By chance, there was a counter seat available, so my friend and I were able to sit down, but people who came in after us were turned away, saying, "Sorry, we're fully booked." First of all, this is a sushi restaurant. But the menu said steak and hamburger! Indeed, many of the people around us were eating teppan dishes. It was before 1pm, but when we ordered, they said they had run out of Japanese-style steaks, but they could make hamburgers, but they had no white rice, so they could make "vinegared rice" if we were okay with it...It was my first time at this restaurant, so I was a little scared when I asked the staff for a second opinion (lol). After I found out that they had vinegared rice, I ordered the seafood bowl lunch set. While I was waiting, more and more people came in, but they were turning me down. (You're not allowed to wait inside the restaurant, and there's nowhere to wait. I think it's for the sake of the customers who are currently eating, but the way the waiter talks is still scary...) Sorry to keep you waiting, and then the lunch arrives! The small dishes, miso, chawanmushi, and pickles are all included, and I'm excited by the generous portions. Medium fatty tuna, sweet shrimp, crab... a seafood bowl with great service! As expected of a sushi restaurant, the vinegared rice is slightly sweet and sour... If they had called out "vinegared rice" instead of white rice, I wouldn't have felt strange eating it. I see. It even comes with a mini ice cream dessert! The caramel sauce, which seems to be homemade, was slightly bitter, and left my mouth feeling refreshed. It was a lunch menu, but every dish, even the miso soup, was carefully prepared and the taste was very satisfying. And now, when it was time to pay the bill. When my friend took out a 10,000 yen voucher for a separate payment, he was told, "The voucher is for two people or more. It can't be used for one person." I had just the right amount on me, so I gave it to my friend and paid for "for two people," but the staff member was still scary until the very end. If you're visiting alone, I recommend having some cash ready beforehand.

(Translated by Google) Even if the last order is 15 minutes before the order, you will be refused take-out yakitori because it is crowded even though it is not a Saturday, Sunday, or the day before a holiday. When I looked inside the store, it wasn't crowded. That's what I was told when I tried to match the 10,000 yen for free agency. And we only recommend taking home items that are cheap, such as chicken skin or fried rice. It's not like I go out to eat with the intention of ordering something cheaper, and at the recommendation of the staff, I ordered more to take home for what I couldn't finish before I went home instead. Furthermore, the amount of fries I reluctantly brought home was much smaller than what I had ordered at the store. Without an apology for not being able to grill charcoal, I was faced with two options: cancel or extend the all-you-can-drink option. Has the store manager changed, or has the company changed its policy? Either way, it doesn't change that the response has gotten worse. If the service store, which offers 2 kilograms of free delivery for purchases of 10,000 yen or more, does not like this service, it should be abolished. Is it because of the listing? Isn't the listing a failure? If we continue to respond like this, we will lose customers, so I would like to make a harsh comment. If you're on the hunt for a delightful lunch experience, look no further than Kurobeko Yakiniku (Challenge Beef). This charming eatery specializes in serving up mouthwatering beef yakiniku made exclusively from top-quality Onuma beef sourced directly from local farmers. The atmosphere is laid-back, allowing diners to enjoy their meal while taking in stunning views of the surrounding countryside. During my visit to Challenge Beef, I was eager to try their renowned grilled beef offerings.
Food is on the pricy side, but the humble decor belies the fact that this place serves real honest to goodness wagyu beef. Even the lowest cut of steak (only one in stock at the time we ordered) was mouthmeltingly good that i have to wonder how the other cuts must have tasted like. The kids were entertained as there were toys and a small play area for them. Beware though, if you are sensitive to smoke, this place does not have adequate ventilation

Cannot forget the steak, the meat soooo yummy... I visited this place around May 2017, not in the plan. The initial place in the plan was closed. So, a taxi driver took me here and adter he dropped me he said once I finished eating please asked the owner to call him so he can fetch me. It was in the evening. I chose the Steak, that I grilled by my self. It was sooo good.. the meat, Onuma beef. On top of that unforgettable food was the taxi driver service. I don’t think so I will walk back to the Station since it was already dark.

Extremely good sirloin beef and sliced beef don. A tad expensive but it was a really good cut. It was very quiet when we visited in 2pm. Do be warned that they will let you cook the meat yourself, so if you can't. Watch a YouTube video or ask them to help you.

We went for the Challenge Grilled Beef in Onuma area, which has the highest review in Onuma area. We rushed here primarily also because the shop is closing soon, at 7:30pm. We reached around 6pm and while expecting to see customers over here, there was no one in the shop. We weren't sure why, alluding towards the fact that now is hokkaido non-peak period. Nonetheless, there is an attached carpark for the restaurant, and plenty of tables for diners. We only ordered the normal beef and premium beef for dinner. There is still the highest grade beef which we did not order, as it was abit expensive (bout 5000yen per share). Between the normal beef and premium beef, we greatly preferred the premium much better, and we do recommend for you to go for the premium instead of normal as the price difference was not huge. So save your stomach for the better one. In total, we ordered three shares of raw beef, and a cooked beef for our baby which is also good. If you sit near the window at the end of the restaurant, the view is over a farm, and you could catch the sunset in moment. So, do note of this.

The beef is fantastic. I guess it's cheap for the quality but how I wish the portion is bigger...

Located off the busy main road. Beautiful scenery and good was really really good! If only the portion was slightly bigger (I have a good appetite so it was by no means too small!) Highly recommended!

The quality is wonderful.I will be here next time.

Chanced upon this while exploring Hokkaido during our honeymoon. Super delicious and service was excellent. Such a pity that it's closed.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Onuma National Park, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Mt.Higure Observation deck.. All together, your day would be filled with about 3 hours of non-stop fun.

Onuma Quasi-National Park, located just 20 kilometers north of Hakodate, is a picturesque forested park known for its island-dotted lakes and the majestic dormant volcano, Mount Komagatake. The park offers hiking and cycling trails, campsites, and boating opportunities on several lakes. It's easily accessible from Hakodate or Sapporo via limited express trains that stop at Onuma Koen Station.
A beautiful display of autumn foliage greeted us in late October. The scenery, it seems, would be picture perfect in all seasons as the backdrop colors change behind small islands and the poetic bridges which link them. Our boat tide beyond our hiking was also a wonderful experience.

Quick but detailed guide of how to get here and what to do is incoming! See my photos for maps and trail info. This is a areat park for hiking casual but especially scenic trails. It's free to visit and easy to reach by train from Hakodate. Take the LOCAL train to the Onumakoen station. The other train option is a limited express which is only slightly faster but significantly more expensive. You can use an IC card to reach the park but must pay for a ticket in cash (~¥680 as of June 2025) at the local to return to Hakodate (unless you reserved a pricier seat on the limited express). There is an atm in town at the post office and it's shown on Google maps. Visit from mid May to early June for the best flower view. There are thousands of azaleas and lilacs in the park along with the vibrant green forest. Bring mosquito repellent. The blue trail has the best views. Start with that, then finish with the red trail. It should take only a couple of hours tops unless you want to truly lounge or do something else. Trails are extremely well marked and mapped. The ice cream vendor by the train station sells awesome peach ice cream.

A beautiful park with a huge lake and surroundings park with lush greenery during the summer. Some of the photo spots along the track have stunning views of the lake and the mountains in the background. There was a recommended track where you can cover all the bridges surrounding the lake in under 2 hours.

We went to the park on a rainy Saturday. When we reached there, there was still a light rain but there were still people visiting the park. The park had nice easy paths to walk on so despite the rain, we were still able to continue with our visit. All in all, a good place to stop on our way from Niseko to Hakodate.

Visited on 2Nov 2025. Beautiful autumn foliage. Did the long walking trail followed by cycling round the lake. The cycling was taxing for me, as the manual bike i rented was not quite powerful and midway the cycling path seems to merge into the road with cars speeding along. However, the scenery was stunning!

My family and I (as tourists from Singapore and Australia) visited this very beautiful national park in Hokkaido today. While this national park is famous for its lake and the islands therein, its bridges linking these islands and the view from here of the iconic Mount Komagatake, I personally found the national park to be a very good place to look at the many types of mushrooms, which can be found here - in short, this was another good reason to visit this national park if mushrooms are "your thing."

Just good, i recommend to visit here along with hokkaido trip

It’s not a great viewpoint but it is still the best one for Onuma. Only visit this spot on a beautiful day. The road is rocky, your tires might suffer a bit. Walking there might be better but does it really worth it?

Nice place, easy to walk to from Onuma if you have no car. Had the place to myself, seems no one comes here often, wish view points where better maintained but still nice views overall.

Good place for a walk around with good views of Lakes Onuma and Konuma and their many beautiful islands. There is a carpark at the top with a shelter and a public toilet.

(Translated by Google) [Higurashiyama Observation Deck] Observatory with a panoramic view of Onuma Quasi-National Park and Mt. Komagatake Until around the beginning of the Showa era, it was called Mt. Onuma, but it is said that it came to be called Mt. Higurashi because the people who climbed here were so captivated by the view that they were so captivated by it until the sun went down. There is. It was a wasteful place with no grass and overgrown. You can drive to the top of the mountain, but be careful as it is quite rough. (Translated by Google) Higurashiyama Observatory Visited to take photos of the bridges on the Hakodate Main Line. After walking for about an hour from Onuma Station, we arrived at the trailhead and started climbing. The path is not particularly difficult to climb unless you are a professional, so even I, who hates exercise, was able to climb quickly. (It takes 20 minutes to climb and 10 minutes to run down.) There is a parking lot at the top, and behind it there is a path and a small square. From there, you can see the whole of Onuma and Konuma. The view is wonderful and I would like to give it about 10 stars, but unfortunately, there are a lot of insects in the summer and autumn. I went in late September and was bitten by more than 20 mosquitoes. Insect repellent is a must. Also, if you don't go down before sunset, you will be in trouble, so I also went down in a hurry, so be careful of the time when you go down.

Let's talk about Daunuma Observatory. This place has a nostalgic charm with its souvenir shops, making it a popular spot in Hokkaido. You can enjoy a serene canoe ride to reach this tourist attraction and explore the area on foot. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the restaurant on the second floor and savor some delicious lavender-flavored soft serve ice cream.
the bicycle rental stand here is really helpful and friendly ....and they speak good english ! btw ,,,it is a MUST DO to do a bicycle ride in this park ...breathtakingly beautiful.

The soft serve is very good, especially the milk and squid ink flavor. However, the store people are quite rude if you are Chinese /they think you're Chinese :/

A pleasant steamboat experience located within the scenic Ōnuma National Park, clearly designed with tourists in mind. While the ingredients were fresh and the presentation was tidy, the overall quality of the food leaned towards the basic and commercial side, lacking the depth and authenticity of local fare. The scallops were decent and the hotpot broth mild, perhaps intentionally so to suit a broad range of palates. Service was courteous and the lakeside setting was charming, making it a convenient stop for hungry travellers rather than discerning food enthusiasts.
Isaac S — Google review
This store is for inbound tourists. Emploees are rude and washroom is dirty. Goods are more expensive than other stores. Not all souvenir shops are not same atmosphere as here. I want to tell to inbound tourists.

Table De Rivage is a unique and charming restaurant located north of Hakodate at Lake Onuma. The menu focuses on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to create internationally influenced dishes such as creamy crab pasta and beef and vegetable curry. The rustic interior offers great views of the surrounding nature, and the restaurant even offers cruises on the lake.
We had the beef stew. The meat is very tender, some pieces melt in the mouth. It was the rainy day on the weekday, so we were the only few tables there. Peaceful day. The service is very lovely. Highly recommended!

Nice cozy romantic spot with a fireplace. Service was great and helpful, thank you so much~

We are glad that we have chosen to dine here rather than the usual hotpot place popular with the tourists. Almost every table at this restaurant has a view of the lake. The restaurant serves western food with a Japanese touch. We had beef stew and ginger pork. Apple pie was a perfect ending to a satisfying meal.

A brief shower while enjoying an autumn walk in Onuma park forced us to take shelter at this restaurant. It turned out to be a blessing, in which we could sit down having hot coffee and admiring beautiful surrounding through a number of glass windows. Would love to have a meal here, had we not had lunch early on. The restaurant is closed quite early at 3pm.

We had such a delicious lunch of steak & fish with almond sauce. And the fish was so delicious that we ended up eating another one! Plus, we had a great view of the lake the entire time, and were able to walk around after eating. A fantastic place to relax and eat delicious food!

The rastaurant is located in the middle of Hakodate Onuma Park. You would enjoy a nice meal with a good view of Onuma lake. I ordered Roasted Beef set comes with soup, bread, drink - just right amount of food. The taste is good. It might be not enough if you are a big eater. If the weather is perfect, it would be amazing to join their cruise lunch! There is a trail course just next to the restaurant. So, I would recommend to take a walk before/after the lunch.

Found this lovely little cafe/restaurant on our walk around the islands. Had some delicious Onuma beef and a very nice coffee. They also have postcards of the area for ¥150 to send to loved ones!
