Yasugi in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Yasugi, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Yasugi is best known for the Adachi Museum of Art, whose meticulously landscaped Japanese gardens are often ranked among the finest in the country and change character with each season. The city offers a quieter, rural side of Shimane, with views of rice fields, low mountains, and access to historical sites such as the ruins of Gassan-Toda Castle. Traditional culture is also a draw, including the famous Yasugibushi folk song and dance, often performed at local events. Its location makes it a convenient side trip from Matsue or a stop on a broader tour of the San’in region.
With favorites like Yasugi Station, Gassantoda Castle Ruins, and Shibaraku, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Koyokan and Yumeland Shirasagi so you can get the best taste of Yasugi while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

The Adachi Museum of Art in Yasugi features a collection of ceramics and 1900s paintings, along with stunning views of Japanese gardens. The museum showcases works by Yokoyama Taikan and offers an elegant garden for leisurely strolls. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Yuushien Garden, Itohara Memorial Museum, Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, and Mori Ogai Memorial Museum.
The garden landscape of this art museum has been ranked first in Japan for many years. The distant waterfall and the trees and shrubs are arranged in a unique way. There are many exhibits in the museum, especially the paintings of many Japanese painters from ancient times to the present, which can be said to be of very high standard. It is recommended to make a special trip to visit.

This art museum is famous for its best gardens in Japan. It's quite large, has many artworks, and is a bit busy if you're there for 2 hours. I think you need 3 hours or more. It was empty on a weekday, but it seems to be crowded on weekends. You can take photos of the Japanese garden, but the air conditioning is on, so you have to look through the large glass windows. The pictures by Yoshio Hayashi, a children's artist famous for "Peek-a-Boo," いないいないばあ are very cute♥️Many people must have grown up reading his picture books. After enjoying the best gardens in Japan, go through the underground passage to the annex. There are many fairly large paintings in the annex. You can sit and look at them. You can rest your tired feet😁Large paintings are amazing in their incredible craftsmanship when you look at them up close or from a distance. There are several gift shops and coffee shops inside. You can spend about 3-4 hours there.

The Adachi Museum of Art is truly a masterpiece. Loved the combination of art and meticulously designed outdoor landscape. Interesting how the outdoor landscape interacts with the indoor exhibits by means of window frames, bringing about a perfect harmony. Plan your trip well so that you can make use of the shuttle bus service without having to rush through the exhibits.
Tan G — Google review
It would have been regretful if I hadn’t visited this place. Having lunch surrounded by the pond and garden was such a delightful experience. If you plan to take the bus to Yasugi Station, make sure to get a bus ticket after purchasing your entrance fee. Viewing the art pieces was very enjoyable, and if you’d also like to have lunch inside the museum, I recommend allowing at least two and a half hours for your visit It was absolutely worth the money and you can get a 100 yen discount on entrance fee if you have a foreign passport. There is also an English audio guide available.
Haemin J — Google review
Spectacular karesansui garden in the middle of nowhere. Worth a detour! Lunch was also very nice, very posh feeling, reminded me of The Imperial Hotel in Tokyo - with better views
Chris P — Google review
It was such a great visit! Many art pieces to be seen, but no pictures as that wasn’t allowed. Beautiful landscape gardens all around were breathtaking (catch a shuttle bus to & fro JR Yasugi station)
Melissa L — Google review
Very beautiful gardens! The green and red arrows made the route easy to follow. We also enjoyed the museum exhibits. There are no photos allowed of the exhibits.
Will G — Google review
One of the best art museums I’ve been to in my entire life, if not the best. The gardens of the museum have been awarded the title of “best japanese garden” for 22 years in a row, and it’s clear to see why, they’re simply stunning. There are some parts in the museum where you have “living canvas” which is a window that frames the garden, and that’s absolutely breathtaking. The art collection itself is also pretty strong, with works by artists such as Imao Keinen, Sakakibara Shiho, Kikuchi Hobun and Hishida Shunso, but also modern ones like Hayashi Yoshio or Nishida Shunei. There’s also different cafes and tea houses inside if you’d like to freshen up! Highly recommend to go here at least once if you’re nearby :)

Castles
Nestled in the mountains, Gassantoda Castle Ruins stand as a testament to Japan's rich history, particularly from the 14th century. Once a formidable stronghold of the Amago clan during the Sengoku period, this site is recognized among Japan's 100 Famous Castles and is celebrated as one of its Five Great Mountain Castles.
Fun hike and amazing views! Beyond the raised platforms not much remains of the old mountain fortress. But the hike is not too difficult and is well paved. Easy access from the museum at the bottom and you can take the return bus to Yasugi station right out front.

(castles visited 50+) Wow. This one was amazing! Parking was easy and straight forward to find. A map that made sense. The "100 castle stamp" was easy to find. This is a super unique castle. The san, ni, and hon maru are squeezed along the top of a very skinny mountain peak. Expect a hike. About 1.5km each way I think from the parking lot. Half of it is steep.

Of the 34 Castles I've visited, this is one of the most beautiful ruins I've ever witnessed. I can't wait to return.

Zuikozan-Kiyomizudera Temple, located in Yasugi City, is a renowned temple known for its ability to ward off evil spirits. The temple hosts a captivating light-up event during the autumn season, illuminating the colorful leaves and attracting visitors who come with lanterns in hand. As one of the 33 Kannon temple pilgrimage sites, it offers a picturesque setting with lush greenery and an enchanting staircase.
A stunning Temple Complex located about 15-20 minutes from Yonago Station. You can climb up to a gorgeous pagoda at the upper level of the complex. There are also a few lookout places where you can see the lush landscape and although we came in summer, I'm sure it's amazing in fall.
Sean K — Google review
Very beautiful and doesn't get a lot of tourists. Admission to the grounds is free and there's a scenic point behind the tower to hike to, where you can see views of Mt Daisen, Yonago, Nakaumi and Cape Mihosaki. No buses go here as it's quite a peaceful place so find some way to get a car there or something. But, you'll certainly be one of the few foreign tourists they get!

Very quiet, surrounded by nature. This complex is lovely. At the top is a pagoda with some nice views. Well maintained- worth a trip if you’re in or around Yonago

This is one of the 33 Kannon temple pilgrimage. The trial through steps and beautiful green scenic sights is worth especially during spring and autumn . Shojin ryori (traditional style vegetarian food cooked for Buddhist monks) is a must try. The three storied pagoda is also beautiful!

In Matsue, Japan, the Yaegaki Shrine is a small ancient Shinto shrine known for its strong ties to love and marriage. Dedicated to deities Susanoo-no-Mikoto and Kushinadahime, it holds romantic legends and traditions. The Mirror Pond in the forest behind the shrine is used for a popular fortune-telling ritual involving paper and coins to predict one's love life. It's believed to be a powerful spot for finding love.
A small temple, famous for praying for good relationship / marriage There's an interesting fortune-telling activity. Purchase a white paper at the shrine (cannot choose which paper you'd like), then bring it to the Mirror Pound and put coins (ex: 10yen) on top of your paper, then put the paper on the surface of water. Then, wait until the words appear and the paper sinks. The amount of time the coin stays afloat on the paper is supposed to indicate the fate of one's marriage.
Nelly — Google review
fortune telling paper is sold at the shrine counter for 100yen and you have to pick the one at the most top. there were a few staff around and the youngest one is really pleasant and sweet!

Interesting shrine linked to the Yamato no Orochi myth. As seen from the picture the shrine is dedicated to marriage and matchmaking. Check out the Mirror pond.

Yuushien is a traditional Japanese-style garden situated in the heart of Daikonshima Island. Unlike the Adachi Museum of Art's garden, it is designed as a walk-through garden featuring ponds, streams, and small waterfalls. The main highlight of Yuushien is its vibrant peony flowers that bloom in winter and spring.
Definitely under-rated. If you are here because the cruise ship drop you off at Sakaiminato, this garden is a must visit!!! We visited when they offered free shuttle first thing in the morning. The place was magical when you were the first few ones. It's good size that you can spend an hour or two. There is a Cafe where you can enjoy the view while sipping tea and sweets. The ground is accessible with wheelchairs too! Only warning, entrance fee is currently (June 2025) cash only. No ATM nearby. So be prepared.
Angelia P — Google review
I paid a premium price for the peony viewing, but it turned out to be a very small area located right at the entrance. There were no other flowers, and the rest of the garden had little to see — I finished walking through it in about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, since I came by public transport, I had to wait nearly two hours for the next bus. If you plan to visit, it’s better to come in spring. I would not recommend visiting by public transport outside of that season.
Ting H — Google review
One of the most beautiful and best maintained gardens I ever been. And I went to a lot 😉. The entry price is a bit high with 1.200¥ but you get what you paid for. Totally worth it. It has many quiet corners where you feel alone with nature. You can let your mind wander and relax. We went end of November and the colors were perfect. But this garden is beautiful in all the seasons.
Veronica P — Google review
Lovely garden and roses at this time of year. Sadly we were too late for the peonies in the garden, but the roses were beautiful.
Gordon C — Google review
Stunningly beautiful, one of my favorite gardens in the country. Visit in late fall to see the colors and illuminations!
Mark L — Google review
The gardens were small, but stunning! The waterfall in the back is easy to miss, so be sure to take the right after the bridge. Lunch was very good.

A pretty relaxed and calm environment! You may not need to spend a lot of time here, but the views are worth visiting. Just to note, if you’re traveling by public transport, the bus intervals are every 2 hours and you have to make sure you don’t miss the last bus out.
Melissa L — Google review
We went on a rainy day, but it was still a great visit. They provide free umbrellas to walk around the gardens, so don't let the rain stop you from going. We visited in the autumn, which is not in season for their world famous peonies, but the gardens and landscaping are still outstanding

It is an Oasis for soul and body. The owners are the nicest people and the food was so delicious and vegetarian. It is next to the temple so really quiet, perfect to relax. You have to take a taxi to get there but it is worth every penny. And if you ask at the tourist information at the jr station they help you organise a taxi and also give you voucher for the taxi, so it's cheaper. So what are you waiting for. Go the Ryokan in Japan.

(Translated by Google) A lovely lady guided us to our room and gave us a detailed explanation of the food, baths and everything else. Although the bath was described as a semi-hot spring, after we got out our bodies felt warm and cozy, warm to the core. Our room was on the second floor, but we had meals in a private room on the first floor. It was my first time eating shojin ryori (traditional Japanese vegetarian food), so I was nervous, but everything was delicious. I was impressed by how the food was so attentive and heartfelt. The food, the service and the cleanliness of the room - this is what hospitality is all about. My mother said she'd like to come again. (Translated by Google) I'll be using it from August 14th to August 15th, 2025. Next to the Adachi Museum of Art. There's a supermarket nearby, so you can do your groceries in advance. If you set dinner time to 6:00, you can enjoy a leisurely bath after dinner (after finishing at 7:00). If you're not in a rush for your morning bath, you can set breakfast to be a little longer and enjoy a long soak. As for the morning bath, the bathhouse is only open to guests, so it feels very exclusive. Dinner is a little more expensive, but I recommend upgrading. The Shimane beef and blackthroat seaperch are delicious. If you're planning a relaxing day in Yasugi City, I recommend exploring the Gassan Toda Castle ruins when the temperature is nice and then visiting the Adachi Museum of Art when it's hot or cold. I only managed to go to the Adachi Museum of Art. Next time, I'd like to go to both. [Gassan Toda Castle ruins is definitely a mountain climb, so be sure to wear something that's athletic. Excellent Indian restaurant with very friendly staff. The naan and curry tasted really great, among the best I ever tasted I'd even say. I certainly did not expect an Indian this great in a town like Matsue but very happy we found it!

Today I went to Agan in Chidori Foods is very delicious and service is very good ❤️❤️
Sangita R — Google review
I came to Asian Dining Agan on a Saturday with a large group of friends. The staff was very nice and accommodating and the atmosphere was casual, but good. However, for a Saturday night, only about half of its tables were occupied. Most of us ordered some kind curry and naan. I ordered the Simple Dinner Set, which consisted of a small salad, Vietnamese spring rolls, drink, Chicken Curry, and Naan. The price was about 1200 yen, which is not bad for dinner. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much. Not a good sign for there to be Vietnamese spring rolls and yakisoba on the menu that is otherwise Indian Curry. Also another small red flag was that the default curry for my meal set was Chicken Curry. I'm not sure what that refers to, as most other curry places will have something more specific, like Butter Chicken as the default. I'm not so savvy when it comes to indian food. In fact before coming to Japan, I can barely remember going to any indian places, but having lived in Tokyo for two years before moving to Shimane, I was having curry almost once a week. Starting in the order that food was served to me, the salad was pretty standard, so not much to say here. Then, I got the spring rolls. Why is this on the set menu? Strange but I actually love spring rolls so I was just gonna roll with it. The spring roll was probably 60% rice noodles, which overpowered what could otherwise have been flavourful meat and shrimp (we will never know...). However, it was served with a spicy sweet and sour sauce that was quite tasty! Next I received the naan, which was brought to me in a large basket. Texture was good, definitely fresh, but the naan had a slightly sweet aftertaste, which I've experienced in a small portion of indian places. I tend to not like this extra sweetness. I received my curry last, not too much later than the naan. The curry had two chunks of chicken, and like the naan, was a bit on the sweet side. The consistency was thick, but not creamy. It had very light flavour, and towards the end, started to taste a bit carroty to me. I don't know if it had a bunch of carrots in it, or if it was just the extra hints of sweet. All in the all, the food here is not great. It would't satisfy my curry cravings, although the staff and owner of this place are all very nice, and endless naan refills are always great. Sorry but I probably wouldn't come here again... I would rather buy a curry packet from the grocery store. Another recommendation is to order off the Curry Menu, and to not order a Set Meal. Then perhaps the curry will have some kind of coherent flavour. Another tip: They have a stack of coupons to their place right next to the cash register. I happened to be pointing this out, and the very nice waitress ringing up our bill gave us a 10% discount.

It was a 6 star restaurant two years ago, with simple but delicious food much cheaper (and a little friendlier) than the current setup. The food is still nice and the staff are still friendly, but it used to be much more special

Matsue Castle, located in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, Japan, is a five-tiered castle built by Horio Yoshiharu and completed in 1611. It is one of the few remaining original feudal castles in Japan and is designated as a National Treasure. The castle tower features black-painted siding on most walls and offers a panoramic view of Matsue from its top floor.
As one of the top 100 famous castles in Japan, the castle tower is quite spacious among the twelve wooden castle towers. The top floor is illuminated from all sides, and it is very pleasant to climb to the top and look out in all directions.

I’ve personally been to many of the great castles across Japan and the world, so I always enjoy seeing an old original castle, and Matsue Castle didn’t disappoint! It’s a relatively short walk from the parking lot, and while we didn’t do the Canal boat ride, it did look fun. The castle itself may not be as large as Matsumoto or Himeji, but this also means there aren’t as many tourists which was really nice as we actually had the entire top floor to ourselves for four or five minutes as there was no one else there. I would definitely recommend anyone in the area to come and see this castle as it’s very easy to get to, not a crazy amount of walking and the entrance fee is not bad at all.
Austin B — Google review
Seeing the original structure of the castle is a must for all castle lovers!! The descriptions inside were very informational. There are nearly 5 flights of very steep (and slightly slippery) stairs. If you are unsteady on your feet or have weak knees, you may consider not entering the castle. The castle interior is not air conditioned but is naturally cooler than the outside even in the summer.

This is a very beautiful castle with historical significance and artistic flair. Public transportation is also very convenient, with beautiful surroundings worth spending half a day visiting, and you can also take a boat tour of the nearby area.

Beautiful castle with scenic views from outside and the top floor. There are many, many stairs and it is not handicap accessible. There was also a shrine and western house. It was definitely worth the stop!

One of Japan's 12 "original castles". Very nicely built and pretty surroundings! You also learn a lot about wooden pillars inside the castle. If you are a pillar enthusiast, don't miss out on this one.

My favourite Japanese castle. Apparently it's the only one that hasn't had to be reconstructed. Also has the big advantage of not being overcrowded.

I absolutely loved visiting Matsue Castle! This historic fortress, completed in 1611, is one of only 12 original wooden tenshu still standing in Japan—and one of just five designated National Treasures . Highlights: • The black, austere “plover castle” silhouette is stunning, especially contrasting with seasonal backdrops—cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, or even snowy white . • Climbing the six-storey interior gives a sense of history—creaky wooden floors, samurai-era artifacts, and narrow staircases evoke a bygone era . • At the top, you’re rewarded with breathtaking 360° views over Matsue city and tranquil Lake Shinji . Great extras: • Horikawa moat cruise: A peaceful boat ride through canals offers charming perspectives of the castle and historic samurai district . • Beautiful grounds: Jozan Park surrounds the castle—ideal for walks under cherry blossoms in spring or fiery foliage in autumn . • Cultural events: Time your visit for the Oshiro Festival in April or the Tea Ceremony Festival in October to see the castle illuminated and filled with traditional performances . Tips: • Entry is ¥680 (castle only) or ¥1,100 with nearby samurai museum and Lafcadio Hearn collection . • Open daily from 8:30–18:30 (summer) and 8:30–17:00 (winter). Closed only for admissions 30 minutes before close . • Easily reached via a 25–30 min walk from Matsue Station or a quick ride on the Lakeline sightseeing bus . • Small boat tours run between 09:00–17:00, with audio guides in multiple languages .

Kounkaku is a European-style Meiji-era building located within the castle grounds, alongside Matsue Shrine. The small, peaceful Shinto shrine is nestled among greenery and features a torii gate. Visitors can make wishes on heart-shaped ema plaques and hang them in front of the shrine. Kounkaku was originally built as a reception place and guesthouse for distinguished visitors during the Meiji Era.

(Translated by Google) Kounkaku (designated a tangible cultural property by Shimane Prefecture) is a Meiji-era Western-style building located in the Ninomaru bailey of Matsue Castle in Tonomachi, Matsue City, about 1.9 km northwest of Matsue Station. Opening hours are 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and admission is free. Built by Matsue City in 1903 as the Matsue City Crafts Exhibition Hall, it is one of the few remaining Meiji-era buildings in Shimane Prefecture. Originally intended to serve as a temporary residence for Emperor Meiji, it is richly decorated with ornaments and carvings, resulting in an ornate finish. While the emperor's tour of the building ultimately did not materialize, in 1907 it was used as accommodation for Crown Prince Yoshihito (later Emperor Taisho). Renovations were carried out in 1912, including moving the front staircase to the back, and the building has since been used as an official welcoming center for Matsue City, as well as for various exhibitions and meetings. There is a driveway at the front and it is an elegant structure surrounded by richly decorated pillars. As the Showa era began and the atmosphere of war deepened, the building was converted into various uses, including the Matsue Regional Navy Personnel Department building, the Shimane Prefecture branch of the Great Japan Air Defense Association, and after the Shimane Prefectural Office was burned down in the chaos after the war, it was converted into a temporary prefectural office annex and the Matsue City Board of Education Secretariat. From 1973, it operated as the Matsue Local Museum, exhibiting materials on local history and folklore. The building closed in 2011 and was restored to its current form in 1912 with the relocation of the staircase. Preservation and repair work was carried out from 2013 to 2015 to find new uses that make the most of the building's history and charm. Housed in an Edo-style building, the museum showcases detailed dioramas depicting the castle town's evolution over 400 years. Visitors can explore for free or opt for paid exhibits featuring national treasures like talismans from Matsue Castle's construction year.

Nice museum. Require removal of shoes to enter - shoes can be stored in provided lockers. Has a tea house with views of a japanese garden - a few tables with chairs with the main area being tatami covered. Nice macha tea on offer with snacks as sets. There is a display of the traditional Japanese tea house around the end of the hallway. The souvenir shop is directly across the tea house.

Genuinely don’t know how Japan is this good at museums. The exhibits are a fantastic mix of traditional artifacts and interactive screens, there’s some really fun models, a fantastic gift shop and cafe, and the staff were some of the nicest I’d encountered on my most recent trip to Japan. Super recommend the cafe, you get to sit in front of a nice Japanese garden complete with a view of the castle.

The Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum is a significant historical site in Matsue, Japan. It showcases the manuscripts, books, and other works of the renowned late-1800s writer and teacher. Hearn's former residence is also part of this museum, attracting numerous visitors to explore his life and legacy. Matsue's connection to Hearn has led to its recognition as one of Japan's top international tourist cities.
A must visit for all fan of world literature. The very well renovated residence, in which Hearn stayed not long, makes us understand what he loved. The memorial museum presents didactically very well his complex biography and his moral stance. The temporary exhibition about his wife was also well done. I appreciated very much the access to the rare books in the 3. floor. I could discover why he was suddenly sent away from the Tokyo University! Well done Shimane!
Medaka S — Google review
An excellent museum profiling the life of Lafcadio Hearn, a legend whose works made an impact to Japanese literature through engaging exhibits. Definitely worth a visit!
Tan G — Google review
This museum was way more engaging and interesting than I thought it would be. As an English teacher in Japan, it was very fascinating to learn about Lafcadio Hearn’s experience teaching in Japan so long ago. There’s a lot of English information, so even if you can’t read Japanese, this museum will keep you busy for some time. Plan at least a half hour here. You can examine old newspapers. There was also a display detailing people who were influenced by Hearn’s life and works. I would come back here. It was very inspiring for me on how to live a life doing lasting and worthwhile things.
Kate P — Google review
Interesting museum that details the life of Lafcadio Hearn, one on the earliest westerners to teach in Japan, live there and write about the country. The museum was a bit small for the admission price and, oddly, didn’t allow photos in one room, but not the other. Still, it's worth a visit as Hearn was an interesting figure in post 1868 Japan.
W F — Google review
Despite knowing a bit about Hearn already and having read some of his work, I was going to skip this museum. There are a lot of other places in Matsue to get to! But another reviewer mentioned it was more engaging than they thought it would be and that just piqued my interest and I am very grateful to that reviewer. This is a great museum! So well-laid out, so organized and so much helpful signage in English. I especially enjoyed learning at length about the contributions of Koizumi Setsuko, Hearn's wife and partner. I went on a busy, rainy festival weekend but it wasn't too crowded. And it's located right near Matsue Castle. Spend some time here!
Heidi A — Google review

Fascinating museum. Extremely well presented. Spent over an hour there learning about someone we'd known nothing about previously but who made such a huge contribution in such a short time. Full marks to the museum curators who've created the bilingual displays.

My family and I are from Ireland and we were very curious to visit the museum. It is a beautiful museum and the displays were as interesting as the story they were telling. We learned so much about Lafcadio Hearne, the layout of the museum ensures there is a lot of information, pictures and drawings on display. I loved to hear about Japanese writers and international figures who were influenced by him. My kids (9 & 11) loved it too, especially the drawings of some Japanese ghost stories! Upstairs some local school children had completed a project about Ireland and it brought a year to my eye! Great museum.

Gesshoji Temple, also known as the Temple of Moonlight, is a serene Buddhist temple that served as the family temple of the Matsudaira clan during the Edo period. Designated as a national historical site, it houses various relics and artifacts such as a Chinese-style gate called Karamon and a large turtle sculpture mentioned in Lafcadio Hearn's writings. The temple's tranquil surroundings make it a popular attraction for those seeking history and faith.
Gesshoji Temple is such a peaceful and magical place. The family history here, along with the indescribable serenity, is reason enough to make the journey. But then you add the legendary man-eating tortoise.. Absolutely beyond description. This was such a unique place with so much history intertwined with myth, truly magical and a doorway back in time. Matsue Castle is only a jog away, but this left more of an impression on me. A great reminder that every trip is actually an adventure!

I was surprised how huge the place is. The hydrangeas were in full bloom and we took really beautiful photos. A matcha drink was definitely a great way to end the tour.
Louviña — Google review
The nature around the temple and the tea room is magnificent. However, the garden in the entrance area is barely maintained and looks wild and ugly and there is also some conservation construction going on. The deeper you get into the depth of the temple garden the more gorgeous it becomes. So go to the garden and spend money and get a tea so that the conservation can be proper!
Ari B — Google review
Surrounded by bamboo forests and silence, you can fully enjoy the peaceful solitude of this temple. I was surprised there was no one else here besides the staff at the entrance. This area was really cool. I loved admiring the woodwork and unique designs of birds and flowers in each gate of the mausoleums. I’ve never seen anything like the large stone turtle, which added to the slightly eerie atmosphere. After walking around, you can step inside the tea house there and enjoy looking out at the Japanese garden while you wait for the next bus. The tourist loop bus stops across the street to the temple, so it is very accessible.
Kate P — Google review
It’s a shame that it’s been neglected for so long, including the famous statue of the giant turtle. They’re doing some renovations but it’s too little too late. The place almost looks abandoned and in terrible disrepair. There really isn’t a temple component for visitors to appreciate; it’s more of an old VIP cemetery of regional rulers.
Miguel G — Google review
I loved how there were hardly any people, so you can fully appreciate the temple structures and grounds. The giant turtle is a must-see. Very unusual and noble looking.
Ruth G — Google review
Massive tombs with historical stories, too bad I have no interest within. Elegant madam at the service table. Tasty matcha and snacks set with such a cozy view.
Andi — Google review
It's the old family cemetery for the Matsudaira clan that used to rule matsue back during the Edo period. The temple itself is quite old and major renovations are being done to fix it up. Hopefully it'll be repaired to it's former glory. The main sites are the burial grounds for the leaders over the years and a giant turtle statue that is said to bring good luck. Admission is reasonable at 700 yen, but I think it's 600 if you show your matsue castle ticket stub. I also tried their matcha tea set, which is pretty cheap at 600 yen. You get to enjoy the tea garden while you drink and eat your snack.

The Shimane Art Museum, located in Sodeshi Town, Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, is a prominent cultural institution in the Sanin region. Situated on the shores of Lake Shinji, the museum's modern architecture complements its theme of harmonizing with water. Its diverse collection encompasses silk paintings, woodcuts, ceramics from the 16th to 20th centuries, as well as sculptures and photographs that utilize water elements.
The facility had a wonderful variety and depth of art on display. The lighting and accessibility enhanced the sensory experience. A captivating collection and a wonderful facility. Highly recommend a visit. It took us two hours to take in the exhibits and I could sit and enjoy the ambience of the back of the property for hours as well! It is a living work of art itself.
Anita Y — Google review
After passing through Matsue previously, I vowed to return in order to visit the Adachi and welcomed the opportunity to include visiting the Shimane Art Museum as well. I suspect its collection is a little overshadowed by it's stunning location and architecture but deserves equal recognition. I appreciated how the European paintings exhibited echoed the view of Lake Shinji outside, but it was the special Hokusai exhibition that frankly impressed. Not only does the Shimane Art Museum contain one of the largest Hokusai collections in Japan, the Nagate Seiji bequest allows it an exceptional breadth and depth. Consider yourself lucky, as I did, if you catch an exhibition featuring this personal collection -- the extensive display of woodblock-printed books (origins of manga!) very much expanded my appreciation and understanding of the master. The architecture of the museum deserves a separate write-up -- there's a generosity of spirit as embodied by it's art library loge and that they allow photography that's matched by the kind people who work there.

Stunning museum by Shinji lake. It has a great restaurant, a museum shop, desks for studying and reading and a lookout for the lake. Very beautiful sunlight comes into the museum with sunsets. Just visiting there is free.

I've been to this museum more than 5 times now and I keep coming back! The exhibition is switched up from time to time, so I see something new every time I go. This time I visited to see the special exhibition featuring the works of Hokusai. The museum received a collection of Hokusai works, extensive enough that they will keep researching it for around 7 years apparently. The museum is right next to a huge lake, and it's known as a sunset-watching spot. The large grounds around it are a good spot to go to with children.
Jagoda W — Google review
A nice museum with a fantastic view over the lake and extensive collection by Hokusai of which unfortunately very few items are on display at any one time. One appreciates that for the visitors who live locally there is an element of thrill associated with seeing a new piece from the collection next time when the selection of prints on display changes, but the thrill loses the point for visitors from far away who cannot come to Matsue often.

Lafcadio Hearn Former Residence, located in Matsue, Japan, is a historical gem dedicated to the legacy of the renowned writer and journalist. This traditional Japanese house, built in the late 19th century, boasts tatami rooms and sliding shoji doors surrounded by a serene garden that embodies Japanese design principles. Hearn lived here for about a year and drew inspiration for much of his writing on Japan during this time.
Beautiful little house (though 'little' because not all of it has been opened to the public) surrounded by lush, pretty gardens. Hearn wrote about his stay here in The Atlantic, June 1882 and little has changed. There is a sublime sense of peace, scholarship and happiness. A short but profound experience that benefits from the absence of visitors.

I read about Lafcadio Hearn and his stay in Matsue (although at only 18 months, it was a much shorter stay than I had thought) decades ago after arriving in Japan, and was really glad to finally visit Matsue and find out more about his values, what kind of a person he was, and why he became so popular/famous in Japan. His former residence has a beautiful classic Japanese design and you can understand why Hearn felt so comfortable there - although I'm sure it was freezing in there during the cold winters! If you are interested in learning more about him, this well-maintained house and the museum next door are well worth visiting. We also strolled around the neighbourhood to visit some of the places he used to frequent.

I'd seen the Lafcadio Hearn Museum on a previous visit, and was glad to be able to visit the former residence to complete the picture of what seems a great romance. It's a humble place but evocative just the same, and appreciated the opportunity to see where he and Setsuko (and their 4 children?) lived.

As a fan of Hearn, it’s a really wonderful place to just wander around and explore. Really get the sense of being in a place someone once loved, lived in, and just… existed in. It’s got a lot of character to it and some nice gardens. There’s less documentation inside, compared to his Kumamoto home, but I imagine that’s due to the museum being next door. As a note, there’s a monument that includes some of his hair nearby, but I missed it when I went, so keep an eye out for it in the courtyard.
Samuel G — Google review
The ticket was a bit misleading (the combo ticket with the museum doesn't include the house) and the house wasn't that impressive. Just visit the samurai house down the street for a better experience until you really like Hearn and need to see the house (otherwise just go to the Hearn museum).
K K — Google review
Lafcadio Hearn's (Koizumi Yakumo) former house is very neat and well preserved. It wasn't too crowded when I went and it was very picturesque. It wasn't quite worth the admission price, even though I bought the museum/house combo ticket.
W F — Google review
I like Lafcadio Hearn's stories, and it absolutely trilled me to be able to finally visit his former residence. The landscape is really stunning, the surrounding streets are also very traditional-looking, it's very relaxing to walk among those streets.
Mizuki G — Google review
Very small and just a couple rooms, but if you are interested in seeing more about Lafcadio Hearn’s life, check it out. There are some nice artworks and displays. You can rest your mind looking out at the Japanese garden. It is discounted for foreign visa holders. You can take pictures inside, too.

Yaegaki Shrine, Kumano Taisha, Suga Shrine, and Miho Shrine are all steeped in ancient Japanese mythology. Yaegaki Shrine is near the mythical entrance to Yomi, the underworld. Miho Shrine offers a unique collection of musical instruments and stunning views of Mt. Daisen. Iya Shrine is an essential stop on the way to Yomotsu Hirasaka and Izumo Taisha, enshrining the progenitor deity Izanami.

The Wakou Museum is a hidden gem for those intrigued by the rich history of iron production. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted with an informative video about Tatara, setting the stage for an enlightening experience. The museum offers detailed manuals and resources that enhance understanding of ancient and modern iron manufacturing techniques. A highlight includes captivating DVDs showcasing the intricate process of Japanese sword forging, revealing how these world-renowned blades are crafted using traditional Tatara methods.
The main purpose of this museum is to present technological parameters of iron extraction using the indigenous "Tatara furnace system" of Japan. This is also a unique tourist destination in Shimane Prefecture.

This museum is not very welcoming—in fact, they are outwardly hostile to visitors. An associate of the museum stalked me as I walked through the exhibition, apparently because he thought I was going to break the “No Photos” rule since I was carrying a camera. By the way, the photography restrictions here are totally silly. There is morning sensitive or ancient in the exhibition. I wouldn’t recommend making the journey here.

(Translated by Google) Visited on May 17, 2025 This is a museum where you can learn about the history of "Tatara ironmaking". The admission fee is not that expensive. I recommend that you first watch a 15-minute video and then tour the museum. Tamahagane, the material for Japanese swords, is made from "Tatara ironmaking". "Tatara ironmaking" was popular in the Chugoku region because of the high quality iron sand that was available in the region. The Wako Museum exhibits various ironmaking tools and materials that were actually used in "Tatara ironmaking", and you can also experience holding a Japanese sword, making it a facility where both adults and children can learn. The elements that convey the culture of tatara ironmaking are called constituent cultural properties, and the area is made up of three areas: Yasugi City, Unnan Town, and Okuizumo Town. In April 2016, it was certified as a Japanese Heritage Site as "Izumo Province Tatara Fudoki - A Story Born from a Thousand Years of Ironmaking". Since iron production requires not only the raw material iron sand but also a large amount of charcoal, this area, where timber can be secured from the extensive forests, was suitable for iron production. This museum exhibits ancient ironmaking techniques and tools, as well as cutlery made all over the country using steel from this area. Yonago Castle Ruins is a historic site with walking paths that offer scenic views of the city. The castle has a rich history dating back to the Warring States Period and the Edo Period. The route from the station to the ruins passes through many historical buildings and sights, with stone steps leading up to the ruins. In addition to its historical significance, visitors can enjoy beautiful views of Minatoyama sea, Yonago city, and Daisen mountain from the top.
A challenge to walk uphill to reach the ruins but was rewarded with beautiful, amazing, awesome views when we reach the ruins. It was practically having an aerial eye view of Yonago. Be careful when you are taking photos, do not stand too close to the edge, as you may have a nasty fall. There is a small shed where the history of the ruins can be obtained.

Yonago Castle Ruins is about a 20-minute walk from the base, climbing uneven stone steps that aren’t too challenging. The castle keep is just a flat area at the summit with a pavilion, offering views of Yonago, Sakaiminato, and even distant Mount Daisen. It’s worth a look if you have ample time, but skippable if your schedule is tight.

Impressive ruins very close to town and the route from the station to the ruins goes through many historical building and sights. There are many stone steps to get up to the ruins, but there are bamboo poles at the base for you to use if you like. Return once you come down from the top. It would be lovely in Sakura season, but it was also nice in autumn. At the top there are benches and an undercover seating area. There are info guides and maps. It’s 10- 15 mins to get up, depending how “stair fit” you are. You can descend a different way if you wish.

(Translated by Google) I've been to izakayas in various locations, but this was my first time at the main branch in Yasugi during lunch hours. I ordered soba noodles and a shrimp and squid tempura set. The soba noodles were okay, but the tempura was very watery? Oily? It lacked the crispiness that's the hallmark of tempura. (The fried chicken I ordered with it was crispy, though...) But what bothered me most was the service. I ordered via the touchscreen, but there seemed to be a communication error, and my order didn't go through properly. While I understand this is possible, even when I told the staff, their response was so unsatisfying that it made me think they weren't very good at using the touchscreen. They simply said, "We'll check," and I waited, not understanding what was going on. Then, the food arrived as if nothing had happened. If there's an error, I think an explanation and apology are essential (most customers will understand). No matter how much tea or coffee they offer, it's a negative experience overall. I think it would be a good idea to reconfirm the significance of opening a lunch service at the main store, which is not available at other stores. The ideal situation would be to provide a low-threshold experience for customers and encourage them to return during the evening hours, but for me it had the opposite effect. I got the impression that the company's ideals, such as its efforts to promote children's cafeterias, were not being met.

Soba noodle shop
Nestled in the charming town of Yasugi, Shibaraku is a delightful soba restaurant that offers an authentic Japanese dining experience. Housed in a beautifully converted old home, the ambiance exudes warmth and nostalgia, making it feel like stepping into a cozy retreat. Despite being close to closing time during my visit from the Adachi Museum of Art, I was warmly welcomed by the staff.

(Translated by Google) I dropped by on my motorcycle on August 9, 2025, around 11:20 AM. I was confused, not really understanding what the recommendations were or how to order, but I found out that the standard number of soba noodles is 1, so I ordered four, a tempura platter, and a non-alcoholic option. The soba noodles had a great flavor, and the broth is poured directly onto each one. It's thick, so I followed the advice to eat them in small portions. It was summer, so I was sweating, and the broth helped me replenish my salt intake, which really helped me feel refreshed. The tempura had a light, crispy batter—a new oil. The ingredients didn't harden, allowing the flavor and texture to shine through. Delicious! The soba soup was served in a teacup. It had just the right thickness, so I added a little of the thick broth and asked for a refill. I was so happy. While I was taking a break, the chef and his mother spoke to me. We were worried about rain at the local fireworks festival, and that there were fewer night stalls... The mother told us that the vacant lot next door was once a bank built with British bricks, which turned a beautiful vermilion color when wet, and how the bricks were going to be discarded, so the neighbors started taking them home little by little. She told us fascinating stories, from the Taisho era when the bank was built to the present day. This is the true joy of traveling. It was a very precious and enjoyable time. On our way back, both of them came outside and told us to be careful. We left the restaurant feeling refreshed. Next time, I'd like to try the kakiage (tempura). I hope you and your mother are staying healthy.☺️ Thank you for the meal.😋 (Original) 2025.8.9 11:20頃、バイクで訪ねました。

(Translated by Google) This is a soba restaurant that only Japanese locals go to. It's about a 7-minute walk from Yasugi Station, so I happened to stop by while waiting for my train, and everything from the atmosphere to the food was delicious. There was only a Japanese menu, so I ordered the food recommended after looking at the Google reviews and photos, and it was delicious. The main menu, soba, is soba mixed with soy sauce and is light yet very delicious. The fried food that we ordered together is expensive, but it is crispy and very delicious, so I highly recommend it!! I was curious at the end, so I ordered the soup with soup, but it was a bit mediocre, so I recommend eating soba and tempura. (Translated by Google) June 2025 I visited the restaurant at 14:00, just before closing time, on my way back from the Adachi Museum of Art. Although it was close to closing time, they welcomed me. The interior of the restaurant, which was converted from an old house, has a nice atmosphere, and it feels like you are visiting an old house. The recommended menu item is the warikosoba, which you can choose between plain soba or with grated yam, and you can choose the number of pieces from three. I also ordered the tempura because I heard it was delicious, but when I told my wife that she is allergic to shrimp and crab, they suggested that we have kakiage instead, so we ordered that and a rolled sushi roll. The wariko soba is served in a small red bowl, and the broth is poured directly onto it. I was told that the broth is quite thick, so I should pour it little by little. The soba is handmade and has a nice aroma. I preferred the one with grated yam. The rolled sushi roll is freshly baked and hot, not too salty, and has a strong broth and is delicious. The tempura is also freshly fried and crispy, and delicious. The prices are reasonable and there is a parking lot at the back of the store. Fukumoto, a teppanyaki restaurant that offers a unique fusion of Japanese and French cuisine, provides an exquisite dining experience with its well-crafted Wagyu lean and fin courses. The delicate presentation and meticulous attention to detail in each dish showcase the culinary mastery of the chefs. Despite the higher price point, Fukumoto's exceptional quality justifies the cost. Customers can expect a satisfying atmosphere, attentive service, and delectable flavors from their appetizers to desserts.
I had an amazing lunch here today. Not only was the food excellent, but the husband and wife team were really friendly and made me feel welcome, despite my poor Japanese. They have an English website, and they can communicate perfectly in English! The food was delicious and also gorgeous, in particular a small plate of appetisers. Because it was my birthday recently, they displayed some flowers with my dessert, which was a lovely touch and made me feel special. (Translated by Google) We had dinner here to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. 14,000 yen per person course. The price is by no means cheap, but considering the contents, it was a reasonable value for money. 🥢【Appetizer platter】 The appetizers, beautifully arranged on a transparent glass plate, are like art. The canapés topped with meat miso and nuts are rich but not heavy, and are appetizing from the start. The tomato and white fish mousse is smooth and accented with a refreshing acidity. The small bowl of cold dishes is also refreshing, and we were very satisfied from the start. 🐚【Turban shell in a pot】 The turban shells, served with their shells, have a fun crunchy texture and the aroma of the sea fills your mouth. It goes well with the accompanying vegetables, and it was a dish that allowed you to fully enjoy the flavor of the sea. 🥩【Wagyu beef nigiri】 Melting wagyu beef with just a touch of salt and fragrant sesame. The sweetness of the fat that spreads softly the moment you put it in your mouth and the deliciousness of the red meat are exquisite, making it a truly "memorable nigiri". The pickled ginger also has a refined taste. 🍲【Cold soup】 A corn-based soup with a gentle sweetness. The toppings are floating nuts and flower petals, making it look and smell gorgeous. It's not too rich, and it plays the role of a perfect "rest" before the next dish. 🥃【Highball】 The refreshing highball goes perfectly with the food. It matches both meat and fish dishes, and the taste is not boring until the end. 🥩【Teppan Wagyu steak】 The thickly cut meat is cooked to the perfect degree, with a crispy surface and rare and soft inside. I felt happy with the meat juice that spread with every bite. The salad was also crunchy and well-balanced. 🍚 [Clay Pot Rice] This may be the true star of this course. The white rice cooked in a clay pot was served at the same time as the steak, which was the perfect timing. It was plump and sweet, and when I ate it with the meat, I truly felt that it was worth coming here for. 🐟 [Fish dish] The pan-fried white fish had a fragrant skin and was fluffy and soft. The balance with the mushroom and zucchini sauce was also excellent, making it a dish that seemed to take the best of both Japanese and Western cuisines. 🍰 [Dessert] It looked surprisingly gorgeous. Citrus jelly served in an ice-like bowl and fluffy matcha castella. Garnished with gold leaf and rose petals, it was like a plate of blessings. However, it would have been perfect if hot coffee had been served at this point... 🎉 And what moved me most of all was the surprise flowers for our anniversary. A bouquet was brought to our table with a message card that read, "Happy 10th Wedding Anniversary." This kind of heartfelt presentation really shows the "kindness of the people" at this restaurant. 🌸The quality of the food, the service, and the atmosphere were all special, and I'm really glad we chose it for our milestone anniversary. It's a restaurant I'd definitely like to return to at another milestone occasion.

Nature & Parks
Yonago Waterbird Park is a wetland sanctuary located along Lake Nakaumi, providing a haven for tundra swans and other migrating birds. Established in 1995 as a response to the gradual elimination of wetlands due to post-World War II land-reclamation projects, this park offers educational events and features an observation hall where visitors can observe wild birds through telescopes. The knowledgeable guides provide insights on birdwatching and offer checklists for marking the birds seen.
From Yonago water birds park, I can see water birds in Nakaumi lake. I can observe them by using binocular. Various species of water birds were found here. In this place, I also can practice stencil art design of wild water birds. Many choices of acrylic paint color are available to color your painting. It was very fun. Kids must be very happy with this activity. Please don’t miss this place when you visit Sanin area.

He is also very patient in teaching people how to use the transcripts telescopes. The lady at the reception is one of the most welcoming people I've ever met in the trip too!

If you are a birder, this place is a must see. And even if you aren't a birder it is a great place to spend some time. You can comfortably watch birds with the telescopes indoors AND Mt Daisen is in the background! The guides are extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They gave me a checklist to mark the birds I saw. There were interesting displays and even bird costumes for kids and grownups too. I arrived too late to see it all, but I will certainly go again. Next time I will give myself plenty of time to really enjoy the experience. A truly pleasant experience.

One of the best deals in Japan. Go to the visitor centre where they have quite a few binoculars set up and helpful staff point out where to look. I would have missed the Siberian swans otherwise.

Good amount of water fowl, definitely lives up to its name. Costs to enter the building itself 310 yen for adults, but they have big viewing binoculars, places to sit, etc. I didn't go in as I was in the mood for wandering around, but I think it'll be worth it to go in if you want to get a better view of spoonbills, Kingfishers, a variety of ducks and the odd bird of prey.

Yasugi Sports Park is a fantastic destination for sports enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Recently, I visited to support a junior high school soft tennis team during a prefectural tournament. While the parking lot can get quite crowded during big events, arriving early ensures you find a spot without hassle. The tennis courts are well-maintained, providing an excellent playing surface for athletes.

(Translated by Google) I went to support my junior high school soft tennis team at the prefectural tournament. To be honest, the parking lot is too small. For big tournaments, I recommend going early in the morning. There is sufficient parking for regular practices and practice games. The tennis court itself was in very good condition. The men's restroom was almost Japanese style. There is also a multi-purpose toilet for both men and women. There was a parking lot for wheelchairs. Hakuta Tulip Festival

Festival
The Hakuta Tulip Festival is a vibrant celebration of spring, showcasing an array of stunning tulips in full bloom. Held annually, this festival draws crowds eager to admire the colorful flowers and partake in the festivities. Visitors can purchase tulips for a modest fee and even dig up their own bulbs if they wish. However, be prepared for muddy paths due to unpredictable weather—rain boots are recommended for those wanting to explore without slipping!
Very nice place to enjoy Tulip.

(Translated by Google) I visited this venue for the first time on April 13, 2024. An area the size of a school playground centered around a windmill Many types of tulips were in full bloom. The flowers are already fully open and will probably be at their peak this weekend. Tulips are also on sale for 70 yen each. There is a parking lot at Hakuta Government Building, which is about 100 meters even when it is full. There are also temporary parking lots in remote areas, so there are quite a lot of parking spaces. It looks like you can park there, but the entrance is quite crowded. When I visited around 10 o'clock, the parking lot was about 2/3 full. By 11:30, it was full. (There is no one to guide you, so you will get stuck in traffic when crossing. (Vehicles on the road were also stopped.) There is a small bench under the windmill. If the weather is nice, I think it would be possible to have a bento box. Basically, you come to the venue and pull it up after finishing your business. I think it's okay. There is only one store in the venue, a manju shop. There is also a Lawson nearby. Nestled atop the majestic Mount Gassan, the Gassan Toda Castle Sanchu Goten Palace Ruins stand as a testament to Japan's rich feudal history. Originally constructed in 1611 by Yoshiharu Horio, a prominent figure from the Matsue domain, this castle was strategically built for defense during tumultuous times. The site is renowned for its impressive mountain fortress design and is one of Japan's five great mountain castles.

(Translated by Google) Gassan Toda Castle is considered one of Japan's five great mountain castles. The flat area just halfway up the castle ruins is called Yamanaka Goten Ruins. It is located about half way up from the foot of the mountain, just before the Nachimagari-no-zaka that goes up to the main enclosure at the top of the mountain. There are only three ways to ascend the castle from the foot of the mountain (Mikomori Exit, Sugaya Exit, and Shioya Exit), and they meet at this Yamanaka Palace, with Toraguchi Gate at Sugaya Exit and Shioya Exit, and Otemon Gate at Mikomori Exit. It must have been an important fort for defense. There is a building called Yamanaka Palace here, and it is thought that the palace was divided into two levels: a flat ground and an upper and lower stone wall, with a large stone wall built on a vast curve. It is presumed that the residence of the castle lord was also located here, and it was probably an important place for the lord and his senior vassals to hold appraisals even in peacetime. If you're walking around the Gassan Tomida Castle ruins, which starts at the roadside station, it's right in the middle, so take a break and get ready for the climb up the Nanamagari Hill! By the way, there is a small parking lot in front of the Yamanaka Goten ruins, so you can start from there and head towards the main enclosure.

It is said that this palace had a two-tiered structure, with the castle lord's residence on the upper floor and the attached facilities on the lower floor. Excavations have confirmed stone rows that are believed to be the foundation of the building, and also found evidence that it has been renovated several times. Based on the shape of the stone walls and the structure of the entrance/exit, it is assumed that it was continuously renovated from the Sengoku period to the early modern period. This palace site, which covers an area of approximately 3,000 square meters, is also the main defense point within the castle, and is located in an important position where the castle entrances from three sides meet. Nice mix between Japanese and western food. Stopped there for lunch. The ambience of the restaurant is nice. A bit western style, I would say. The parking was full when we came, so I had to search for another place. There is a big parking lot a few meters down the road, but I’m not sure if it was really okay to be park there. If you're on the hunt for a delicious and budget-friendly meal, look no further than Sukiya! I recently indulged in their limited-time spicy yakitori bowl, which I paired with extra rice, along with a delightful pork soup set that came with pickles. The portions were generous, making it an excellent value for money. Ordering was a breeze thanks to their user-friendly tablet system, and the service was impressively quick.
Excellent value. Big portions, good food and low prices. Easy to order on the tablet and reasonably fast service.

Even after I took my seat and placed my order, they never brought me water. The first and second times I thought, ``Okay, okay.'' But the third time, I said, ``Bring the water level!'' Even when I pay the bill, I'm confused, and I don't like it when that "S" is around. (Translated by Google) I stopped by on my way from Matsue to Okuizumo. I often see it on the news, so I was curious about it. I didn't know much about the museum until now, but I was very moved to learn about the thoughts and goals of Mr. Kano Kanrai, for whom the museum's name is derived. In addition, there were exhibitions of Yasugi folk art and video introductions of local greats. Yasugi is famous for its folk artist Kanjiro Kawai, but there are also other people who have contributed to the development of local culture. I imagine that it is connected to the spirit of the Amago clan and the Hirose clan in ancient times, and although it is not a large town, I feel that it is a place with great potential. There is an annex next to the main building, where you can get matcha tea as a service. The weather was nice, and the view of the garden was beautiful. Nestled along the serene banks of the Iiri River, Mikazuki Park is a delightful escape for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. It is located along the Iiri River, and the riverbed is also beautifully maintained. I visited early in the morning, and there were a few people walking along the riverbed and river bank. If you look at the Gassan Tomita Castle ruins from this park, you can see the seven curves from Senjodaira, the horse riding area, and the stone wall of Sannomaru near the top.
