Marugame Castle, also known as Marugame-jo, is a 16th-century hilltop fortress located on Mt. Kameyama in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture. It is renowned for its well-preserved original wooden donjon and impressive stone walls, with the inner moat featuring a towering wall that stands over 60 meters tall – the tallest of its kind in Japan.
Super cool place. You can walk around the grounds and just enjoy nature. A lot of people outside just enjoying the nature. The view from the top is gorgeous, especially during the sunset. The best time is visit is definitely during the sunset except the castle won't be open sadly. So you kinda have to pick and choose but that's okay.
Joshua P — Google review
The castle is small but the location is good in the middle of the city. The view is beautiful when you are at the top, you can also see the long bridge going to Okayama. It's nice to relax at the top, just accompany it with a cold beer, that's ok.
Rimon G — Google review
The park itself is free, including the steep walkway up to the castle (somehow it makes me miss staircases). You only pay to go into the castle, which is also where all the stamps are. The castle itself is small, but the park, the surrounding walls and the gates make for a great experience. Be mindful of the closing time though, as it is fairly early. There's a free parking lot where the museum is (but it was closed today, sadly). Although the parking lot was almost full when I arrived, there was no sign of any tour buses. So I still got an overall quiet experience, which was much appreciated. Don't forget to visit the little gift shop at the bottom of the uphill walkway, as they have a cute little fan shop, as well as some Yadon/Slowpoke merch (mascot of the prefecture).

Visiting Marugame Castle is truly a remarkable experience! Steeped in history, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the past that's unlike any other. I can’t wait to share more about the captivating stories and breathtaking views that make this place so special!

This is a small castle, open from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Even after hours, you can still enter the park (though not the castle tower) to enjoy amazing sunset views
Ka C — Google review
The walkway is absolutely delightful! The walk-up is a little tiring, but the view is perfect! If you walk up just before sunset, you'll have the perfect picture of marugame City!

Castle on a mountain! There is a steep climb up, but the view is amazing! Small tower on top, but it was closed when I arrived (Monday).
Roger A — Google review
One of the 12 original remaining castles in Japan. The castle itself is very small with steep stairs to get up and it's a steep hike to get up to the castle itself, but the view of Marugame and the stone walls are impressive.

Aquarium
Nestled in Kagawa Prefecture, the Shikoku Aquarium is a modern marvel that beautifully showcases the aquatic life of the region. With its themed tanks representing both the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean, visitors can immerse themselves in the unique underwater ecosystems of Shikoku. The aquarium not only highlights diverse marine creatures but also delves into local culture and environmental aspects tied to these waters.
It's a nice experience for us to come to this aquarium. They provide many special performances, like dolphins performance. The sea creatures can be seen were varies. The place also not so crowded even on the weekend so that we can enjoy to see every fish and creatures there.

It is a small aquarium but mighty. Their interior design is impressive! A famous picture spot, indoor and outdoor engagements and super cute hand drawing descriptions. I like their cute merchandises sell in the shop. A highlight activity is you can open shell and get your own pearl with add-on to jewelry or design.

We love aquariums, so we had to visit this place since it’s said to be the largest aquarium in the area. Most people recommend spending about 2 hours here, which feels just right. We spent 3 hours here. What stood out the most to us was the dolphin show—it was the most gentle performance we’ve ever seen. You’ll understand what I mean when you see it for yourself! By the way, this aquarium consists the most beautiful animal drawing ever!!! my video is longer than 30 seconds which means there are more drawings in the aquarium. You should come and see them yourself!
Tik C — Google review
It’s not a really big aquarium, but it is famous for the big round aquarium window. A lot of people take photos there. They also have dolphin shows which is quite short, I think it’s around 10-15 mins.
Shelley L — Google review
The largest aquarium in Shikoku Many sea animals ! Especially u can find otter here. U can buy the ticket easily at the entrance, no need to book online. TBH, the ticket price is a bit expensive. Better check the show schedule before u plan your visit. Since it is not possible to stay in the aquarium whole day to watch all the show. Re-entry is allowed, remember to stamp the stamp provided right next to the exit gate if u would like to go back. Many souvenirs in the shop, u can buy different types of special edition souvenirs there.
Lydia C — Google review
Nice small aquarium to spend a few hours with your family . There is a scheduled dolphin show , the pool is small but you can get very upfront close to the dolphins . We really enjoyed ourself

Not massive, can finish viewing a little bit over hour or so. But very indulgent experience.

As an Aussie we went there with our kids because they love fish ! However seeing those poor dolphins in their tiny enclosure, doing their performances was a little upsetting. $90AUD for two adults and two kids.

Izakaya restaurant
During my recent travels, I stumbled upon Umakabo Sakaide, a delightful izakaya conveniently located near my hotel at Sakaide Kita Inter. This charming eatery quickly became a highlight of my trip! The menu is straightforward and features an array of local specialties, including Kagawa's famous chicken dishes and fresh seafood. I particularly enjoyed the sashimi platter served on ice and the crispy fried items that were hot and flavorful.

(Translated by Google) I was staying at a nearby Route Inn, so my family and I visited for dinner. Good thing I called in advance! The customers who came one after another went home with the seats full. I came into this restaurant by chance, but it turned out to be a popular restaurant! The fish was fresh and the fried food was served hot and delicious. It seems to take some time to be delivered, so it may not be suitable for those who are in a hurry. What surprised me was that even though the four of us drank alcohol and had our fills, it only cost us just over 10,000 yen! It's cheap, isn't it? (Translated by Google) This restaurant has everything from Kagawa's typical dishes to ramen. I visited after 1830 without a reservation on a weekday, and was told that the service would be delayed due to the customers who had reservations at 7pm, but there was no problem. I ordered bone-in chicken, grilled skewers, and grilled offal, but all of them were too salty and I quickly gave up. I think it's a beer hall business that has a strong salty taste, but in the winter it has the opposite effect and I end up buying palate cleansers at convenience stores. It's a shame because the taste isn't bad. (Translated by Google) When I was traveling, I stayed at Route Inn and visited the store with my child because it was a nearby location. Overall it's salty. I chose this restaurant because I wanted to eat chicken with bones, and it also had something that my kids could eat. Adults ordered bone-in chicken and carpaccio, and children ordered pizza and fried rice. When the fried rice was brought to us, we were told that it was made with less salt so that children could eat it, which was a very kind response. It was still salty though... Since it was early, the drinks came right after ordering. Just a bone-in bird. It's quite salty. It was so salty that I couldn't eat it all. I was very disappointed even though I came here for the chicken with bones. The carpaccio was delicious, but I thought it was a little expensive for the amount. A complaining customer came next to me and said, ``We apologize for the inconvenience,'' and asked for a free item. I had a very good impression of customer service when I went there. I was able to order on a tablet, so I was able to take my time and think about it while ordering. Kodawari Menya is a must-visit udon restaurant that offers an incredible dining experience, perfect for both seasoned foodies and casual diners alike. On my recent "udon hopping" adventure, I found myself at this gem where the Kake Udon was a delightful treat. I was able to enter without a wait, and ordered "Kake Udon (¥310)" in Marugame Seimen style. After receiving my udon, I went to the condiment counter and found that in addition to the usual "green onion, tempura scraps, and ginger," they also had "grated daikon radish" and "lemon." I sat down and slurped down my udon. Udon Prefecture's consistently delicious. Next, I slurped down the broth. "Wow, even better than the first famous restaurant!" I thought. From the entrance, go to the right side and take the tray. Water and tea are also self-serve. There was a line and we stood in a small space. There was oden by the time I ordered the udon. Unfortunately, I passed this time. The price is not high. I ordered cold bukkake udon. You can prepare various types of tempura by yourself. Finally, there's accounting. There were toppings on another table. I sat at the counter and had cold bukkake udon and chikuwa tempura. You can add as many toppings as you like and change the flavor to your liking. The noodles are chewy, but the hardness is easy to eat and delicious. I also liked the taste of the soup. Unfortunately, the inside of the restaurant is small, so the atmosphere isn't very relaxing, and the line to order is cramped, making the people eating at the table next to you uncomfortable. I think if the table had a blindfold or a screen, you could eat without looking at each other. Thank you for the delicious udon noodles. Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Kojima Jeans Street, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Shiromine Temple. All together, your day would be filled with about 9 hours of non-stop fun.

Kojima Jeans Street, located in Okayama, Japan, is a renowned destination for denim enthusiasts and fashion lovers. The street is home to some of the country's top denim brands and manufacturers such as Betty Smith and Japan Blue Jeans. With a history dating back to the 1500s, the area was originally known as Ginza Street before transforming into a hub for Japanese-style stores and modern boutiques.
We thought our shopping time in Japan was over but we were so wrong. It's kinda unassuming in that it's a few small laneways that cris-cross a tiny area in Kojima, but the quality and standard is next level. The denim is varied and all made in Japan, with many stores making everything in Kojima itself up near the train station. Definitely check it out, even if you're not a full on denim fan.

Extremely low key and calm spot but amazing nonetheless. We walked around in all the jeans spots for a couple hours and weren’t bored for a second. The history of all the stores is amazing and the quality of the jeans are incomparable. Beware that the price of the jeans are above average (depending on where you live) the cheapest pair we found was about 18,000 yen and the most expensive was 60,000 yen but if you want you can spend a lot more on a pair if you order and want them fitted.

A place for denim pilgrims to pay respect to numerous makers such as Big John on one end to Japan Blue Jeans on the other. Best go on days when business is open and enjoy a leisurely walk to peruse the many design offerings. There is likely something for every denim lover.
Joseph H — Google review
Five stars if you are a lover of denim but otherwise Kojima itself is not an attractive town and there is little else to see. Jeans Street is in fact spread over two streets, a map is available at the station, and has around thirty shops selling denim. Most are small boutiques and, in terms of style, some sell a broad range including Big John; some are aimed at a more older and conservative demographic, and a few are fashion-forward such as Japan Blue Jean, and Momotaro. None are street wise, and ultra-hip, and there are no stores selling pre-worn clothing. Nor is this a place for cheap prices. It's not an outlet street.
GMT — Google review
For jeans lovers definitely worth a trip. Apart from the jeans shops, nothing much to see in Kojima. Don't go there on a Monday, a lot of stores are closed, best time to go is the weekend, so I heard. Staff is very friendly in all the shops, most of them don't speak much English though. Not in all but in most shops, they will give you a tax free.
Jimmy T — Google review
If you're looking to buy or have a pair of jeans made, this is the place for you. If not and you have no other reason for visiting Kojima, then I wouldn't make the trip. That said, it is a nice area to stroll around with lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from and it's only a 15 minute walk from the train station. If you're driving, then park for free in the Happy Town mall and walk five minutes. Kojima can be a short stop en route from Kurashiki to Washuzan.

Sculpture
Red Pumpkin is a striking contemporary art installation by Yayoi Kusama, located near the main port of Naoshima. Similar to the iconic Yellow Pumpkin on the island, this massive spotty sculpture allows visitors to walk inside and even poke their heads out of its polka-dot holes. At night, it illuminates beautifully.
A beautiful and distinctive sculpture. When I was looking at what people were doing around the statue, I thought to myself that it was actually a playground for adults. It's nice that art can bring out the playfulness in people.

Seeing this in person was surreal. It was beautiful and with backdrop of the sea it was so lovely. Love how people can just freely take a picture with it.

Always so much joy and fun to see the wonderful Yayoi Kusama pieces ❤️🖤💛🖤🧚 See the pumpkin when it gets dark, its a hell of a pumpkin 🎃 Visit the yellow pumpkin on the other side of Naoshima, enjoy the beautiful beach there. The local bus will take your from one pumpkin to another:D

Both Yayoi Kusama and ginger ale are very special to me and so it was a pleasure to enjoy my favourite beverage in front of my favourite artist. I haven’t seen the pumpkins in person before and so it was wonderful to see while drinking simulated gourd in the form of the melon flavoured ginger ale. Spectacular experience

Travelled from Okayama Station. takes about 1.5hr in total. If you have a tight schedule like me cos I reserved tickets at Chichu Museum, suggest you keep to the right of the ferry at disembarkation so you can make it to the town bus stop quickly especially if it's a crowded day. The bus is small and I had to take the 2nd bus as it was crowded. The red pumpkin is at the ferry terminal whilst the yellow pumpkin is at the last stop on the town bus - Tsutsuji-so.
AH Y — Google review
Upon arrival on the island, it's the first artwork you'll spot! Often, it has a crowd trying to take photos with it. If you're patient, let those crowd finish first while you look at other things. I promise by then you can almost have the whole pumpkin to yourself!

Kind of like the “home base” piece of art on the island, being by the boat pier and all. Still, very iconic and a must visit, especially as it’s the easiest to get to. Be sure to catch this place at sunset, it’s beautiful!

Nature & Parks
A while back, I visited Bannosu Park during my work trip. The atmosphere was serene, possibly due to the recent rain in the evening. The park appeared deserted but offered a delightful stroll in the fresh air, cleansed by the rain. Although not many flowers were in bloom at that time of year, scattered roses and other blossoms added beauty to the surroundings. This spacious and comfortable park left a positive impression, making me eager to return when all the flowers are in full bloom.

They were blooming in clusters and were cute. The yellow weeds? They were blooming together and looked nice. It was my first time here, but there were roses, hydrangeas and other flowers planted, so it seems even better depending on the season. There were also posters called "birthday trees," and it was fun to try to find out what flower my child was. There was also a large parking lot, so I felt at ease. (Translated by Google) This famous temple was chosen by Emperor Sutoku as the final resting place. The emperor's tomb is located within the grounds, creating a pious atmosphere. Even before that, it was a sacred site for Kobo Daishi, and is rich in cultural assets. Nestled in the mountains of Goshikidai, it's surrounded by nature throughout the four seasons, yet is easily accessible, with a wide road running right up to the temple. It's also the setting for a dramatic piece of history: before Emperor Meiji fought against the former shogunate forces, after 700 years, the spirit of Emperor Sutoku was welcomed from this place to the capital in order to secure the Meiji government's support. Even if you're not interested in making the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, we recommend a visit. It's quite high, requiring a short climb from the plains, making it a challenging stop for seasoned hikers. However, the lush trees and cool air along the way make the climb less monotonous. The main deity is the Thousand-Armed Avalokitesvara. The main hall is majestic, and the grounds are spacious. Besides the main hall and Daishido Hall, the Mausoleum of Emperor Sutoku is also a unique feature. It's said that Shiramine-ji Temple has a deep connection with the spirit of Emperor Sutoku, resulting in a richer atmosphere of faith and history than typical temples. The grounds are lined with towering ancient trees, and stone steps and lanterns stretch all the way to the front of the hall, giving the walk a truly ancient temple atmosphere. The area is not crowded, and the environment is quiet, making it a pleasant place to take a leisurely walk. (Translated by Google) Slightly thin, chewy and chewy udon noodles. They are boiled to order, so it takes a little longer to arrive, but the texture of freshly boiled udon noodles is different from reheating them! ! The curry udon seemed to be popular and many people ordered it. I ordered Ontama curry udon with Ming udon topped with Ontama. The aroma of Ontama curry udon stimulated my appetite, and the taste was delicious because it also contained Ontama, which was delicious when combined with the mild texture of the udon! ! Akira udon is bukkake udon with a sweet sauce, and is eaten by adding wasabi and mixing it in. The wasabi rounds out the sweetness of the sauce, and it has just the right amount of seasoning, making it easy to eat with your chopsticks. This is a good restaurant where the taste and texture of the noodles are impressive. Udon noodle restaurant
If you're on the hunt for a delightful dining experience, look no further than Machikawa! This charming eatery specializes in Sanuki udon, offering an impressive quantity at remarkably affordable prices. With a cozy atmosphere that feels like home, you can enjoy their Kake Udon starting at just 260 yen for a small bowl and 330 yen for a large one—where the latter boasts about three servings! The noodles are perfectly cooked to achieve that ideal balance of softness and elasticity.
(Translated by Google) Delicious, cheap, and the local Sanuki udon! This is the kind of restaurant you'll find here. They've been around for a long time, and while the small bowl of udon is 1.5 servings like other restaurants, the large bowl is 3 servings, and the Kake Udon is 260 yen for a small bowl and 330 yen for a large bowl! The restaurant has a homey atmosphere, and the oden has a traditional taste. They also serve rice balls, and the recommended dish is the Kayaku Gohan! This is just as delicious as the udon. The large Tengu Udon is very filling, and although it's a little different from Shitoku Udon, the sweet broth was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for the meal 😋 (Original)

The restaurant actively incorporates locally sourced ingredients and boasts the "Tengu Series," of which the "Miso Tengu" is highly regarded as a uniquely Machikawa flavor. ✨ The restaurant has a relaxed, homey atmosphere, with both table seating and tatami rooms available. Of course, the regular menu is available, but I found one dish that really caught my eye! 👀✨✨ I was having a hard time deciding, but this is what I ended up ordering! 👋 "Miso Tengu" (Miso Tengu) 550 yen After a short wait, the bowl arrived. The gorgeous, lavish appearance, packed with ingredients, was truly impressive. 🤩 The colorful toppings include red carrots, red sweet potatoes, Chinese cabbage, and shiitake mushrooms, and the mochi (white rice cakes) add a warming texture. Let's get started! ️ The udon noodles have a supple, smooth texture and are easy to swallow. They have just the right amount of firmness and a rich flavor. 😋✨✨ There's quite a lot of red carrots 🥕 cut into the shape of a tengu 👺. By the way, this udon is topped with tengu and 10 other ingredients! 🤭🤭🤭 The ingredients change depending on the season, but it's a hearty, hearty, and delicious bowl of udon featuring a wide variety of ingredients. 😍 It's perfect for the cold season, but it's also a hearty warming treat any time of the day. (Translated by Google) Even if it's small, the amount of noodles is a lot, and if it's large, it's about 3 balls of noodles at other restaurants. The noodles are soft but have the necessary elasticity. Nowadays, the prices of many things are going up and we can't afford to live anymore, but surprisingly, as far as I know, prices haven't increased in over 10 years. Combined with the large quantity, the cost performance in terms of quantity is considerable. Tengu udon, which can be said to be a specialty of this restaurant, comes in two types: miso soup stock and soy sauce soup stock. The soy sauce tengu has a rather sweet flavor, and is similar to udon noodles at the end of sukiyaki. Personally, I prefer miso soup. The inside of the store is a small general store, and it gets very crowded at lunchtime, making it uncomfortable. Sharing a table with strangers is common. There are about 6 parking spaces in front of the store, but many people park their cars in the space reserved for the lane expansion. The road in front of the store will eventually be made into four lanes, so parking will likely become quite inconvenient. Marugame Genichiro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art (MIMOCA) is a capacious art gallery and library that features the works of modern artists, including Genichiro Inokuma. It provides a unique and intimate atmosphere to browse contemporary art with its impressive permanent exhibition and special displays. MIMOCA offers visitors an unexpected find with its personal setting, making it a wonderful place to appreciate modern art in a serene environment.
This museum makes a stop in Marugame totally worth it. Only about 45 minutes from Okayama by train (over a beautiful bridge!) the museum houses Inokuma san’s beautiful collection in a wonderful building. The museum shops and the cafe are some of the best I’ve seen. Their seasonal exhibitions (autumn 2023 is textile genius Reiko Sudo) converse with the permanent collection and are engaging and unusual.

Staff were really friendly at the counter also there’s a locker you can use as well at the first floor when you first walk in, Overall a really quite impressive place.

A fabulous museum from the amazing architecture through to the exhibits. While its prime purpose is to house Genichiro Inokuma's work it also mounts short-term exhibitions by other artists. All exhibitions are done well and the space itself is a delight to see art. There is a small shop in the entrance lobby. And a lovely cafe on 3F, which also has goods and local produce for sale. As it is close to the station it is an easy journey from Okayama. For those driving, there is an adjacent underground car park. @japanauthor on Twitter.

they have English wall text! They didn’t even have that at the most popular museums in Tokyo (the most populated city in the world 😅) I was very impressed. I came for the MIMOCA EYE and it was a fantastically curated show of current artists in Japan. The museum is off the beaten path in terms of the city, but there is a JR station literally right next to it. If you have a chance to go, please do ☺️ I am currently studying Japanese and have my bachelors in fine arts and I especially loved the little pencils with quotes about art and museums from Genichiro himself that are available for purchase in the gift shop!

The Kamada Mutual Aid Society, established in 1918, has been involved in a range of community initiatives such as creating libraries, museums, and social education facilities. The present museum, constructed in 1922, is a valuable early example of reinforced concrete architecture. Originally a library, the building underwent renovations and now features unique embellishments.
Very nice local museum which at the time was showing some beautifully painted panels, pottery and laquerware and some historical artifacts and astronomical equipment. What stood out to me was some incredibly detailed paintings of Birds, flora and lanscapes of Ran ei/Lan Ying (1585-1664) with vibrant blues & greens that seemed to leap off the page. (thanks to the kind attending curator who helped me with this) There is also a wonderful park next door. The locale is supposedly what Murakami Haruki based the library on in his book "Kafka on the Shore" and I half expected to see Saeki-san and Oshima as I went through the door! :)

The Four Yotsuya Simon Doll Museum, also known as the Awao Mansion, is a beautifully preserved Western-style building that showcases a unique collection of ball-jointed dolls. This museum offers visitors a glimpse into a bygone era, with its nostalgic ambiance and lifelike dolls that are truly one-of-a-kind. It is worth noting that photography of the dolls is allowed within the museum; however, sharing these images on social media platforms may pose copyright issues.

It's one of the 88 sacred sites of Shikoku, but the main hall and Daishido hall are relegated to the left corner, making them hard to find. 😂 The sutra offering office is even harder to find, hidden among the trees at the back of the parking lot on the right. Although it's on a slight hill, the grounds are fairly flat, making it a relatively easy place to visit. This is also the spot where Yo Oizumi said he had a supernatural experience on the TV show "What Do You Do on Wednesday?", but given his subsequent performances, it seems like it wasn't an evil spirit. The temple is located right next to a main road, making it very easy to find. The main deity is the Eleven-Faced Kannon Bodhisattva. While the temple grounds are small, they have a compact feel. The main hall is visible shortly after entering the main gate. It's said that the temple's name, "Tennoji," was inspired by a prayer from Emperor Shomu, earning it special patronage from the imperial family. The temple grounds also enshrine the guardian deity, "Ichiya Tenjin," known for its patronage for academic success. The temple attracts not only pilgrims but also local students and parents. Beyond the Eleven-Faced Kannon, the deity's deity worship lends the temple a unique atmosphere. Although the temple grounds are small, they are immaculately maintained, making the route easy to follow. Unlike the "Kannon Cave and ocean views" of Gosho-ji Temple, Tennoji Temple emphasizes historical heritage and deities. A Japanese restaurant in front of Sakaide Station that is also recommended for dinner parties] ・Mizen is located in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture, just outside the rotary in front of Sakaide Station. ・Since it was a treat, I don't know the bill💦 ・I ordered a la carte. There are various dishes from fish to meat. ・Above all, the interior design of the store makes you want to use it for formal dinners, with spacious private rooms and a spacious lobby. ・For this meal, ``Jakomeshi'' was a big hit for me. In addition to the richness and texture of the japonica, the sweetness of cherry blossom starch (the sweet pink stuff often sprinkled on top of chirashi sushi) is a perfect combination, giving it an outstanding ``Japanese taste.'' - Gozen meals are also available for around 2,000 to 3,000 yen, so it seems like it would be a good option for a small family gathering. This time I was mainly talking and couldn't concentrate on the meal, so next time I would like to come and enjoy each and every dish. The fried chicken is crispy outside and juicy inside, how did they do it!!!! That’s really Japan technology!!! And the salad with special sauce is sour and appetizing, and cabbage so crunchy, OMG! It’s unbeatable lunch! They also provide free ice water if you don’t want to pay any beverage or coffee. So it’s all good for me. And I use Suica payment it’s cashless, yay!! So many good times in this restaurant no wonder so many people during lunch time all locals.

(Translated by Google) I don't usually go to Joyful, but I came here because there didn't seem to be any other restaurants near the station that I could easily go to with my kids. It was after 3pm on a weekday, so there were few customers. I downloaded the Joyful app for the first time thinking I would try using coupons, but there were no coupons for children's lunches, so I didn't feel like it was a good deal. Coco's always has great coupons for kids. . The clerk was an energy-saving customer service person. I didn't like the children's cups in the drink corner because they weren't clean and dirty. Children may be happy if they sit by the window, as they can watch the trains coming and going. Goshikidai Visitors Center is located on a lava plateau that spans Sakaide City and Takamatsu City, offering a picturesque drive with stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea and its islands. (Translated by Google) 2020.11.29, rather than the Goshikidai Visitor Center, it is the road leading to the center, just before Shiramineji Temple on the prefectural road Kamogawa Goshikidai Line. I started working at the Sakaide sales office about 10 years ago, and since then I have rented company housing in Kamo Town and worked alone for the past 5 years. You can see it at a glance with the bridge in the background, and I used to visit here from time to time. A fantastic waterfall that appears when it rains. Kagawa Sakaide is famous for growing mandarin oranges, and there are terraced fields of mandarin oranges in the surrounding sunny mountains. From this slightly elevated place, you can enjoy the fields of broccoli, ginseng, wheat, and rice, all changing colors throughout the year. What I look forward to most this time of year is selling freshly harvested mandarin oranges on the roadside. Today, I heard that they started selling them yesterday, so I bought ``Ohara Beni Wase'' mandarin oranges, a specialty of Sakaide. I always use this store. When the weather is good, the sea is sparkling, and the islands in the distance are lined up one by one. The view is super wide, which really makes people feel very moved! 💖 I took a lot of photos here, each one is as beautiful as a postcard, and I can upload it directly to IG without retouching it! 📸 The facilities here are also very good, with a parking lot, which is very convenient for friends who drive here. Although there may be a little less choice of shops here than other observatories, if you expect to buy a lot of souvenirs, you may feel a little unsatisfied, but coming here is mainly to see the scenery, so I don't think it affects much. 👍 I suggest that you come here in the evening, the scenery of the sunset is even more unique, the orange-red light sprinkled on the sea, super romantic, it is basically a dating destination! 🥰 In short, Yoshima Observatory Setona is really a place worth visiting, highly recommended!

During my recent journey through Shikoku, I made a delightful stop at the Yoshima PA Food Court on Respect for the Aged Day. Despite the air conditioning being out of order, which made it a bit warm inside, I enjoyed a leisurely lunch with my wife. I opted for their spicy bone-in chicken while she savored the fried horse mackerel set meal. Both dishes were flavorful and satisfying.

In addition to locally produced dishes such as Olive's famous salmon, free-range chicken, beef, and pork dishes, as well as Sanuki's specialty bone-in chicken, this food court also offers pork cutlets, hamburgers, ramen, curry, and more. It's after 2pm on a Sunday in December. The last day of a three-day, two-night trip. The store is located in Yoshima PA. There is also a udon noodle shop and an ice cream shop next door. It is a popular spot with a large parking lot and an observation deck. You can see Seto Ohashi Bridge and the Seto Inland Sea. You can also eat outside on the terrace. In fact, you can eat it at the table next to the udon noodles. Each store has different business hours, and you cannot eat udon at the food court during the hours when the udon restaurants are open (10:00 to 16:00, *until 17:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays). The food court is open until late. The food court side has regular table seats, and is a suitable space for receiving the food you order. I ordered the olive beef sukiyaki bowl with miso soup (1,500 yen) from the ticket vending machine. <In-store description> Olive beef ribs from Kagawa Prefecture are used. Rich, refreshing and soft flesh. It was served in about 10 minutes after ordering. I went to my family waiting at the udon restaurant. It's a sukiyaki bowl, but the rice is about 1 cup. Finished with sukiyaki-flavored meat, onions, konjac, green onions, and egg yolk. Also, miso soup with pickles and white miso. The rice was delicious and well balanced with the meat and eggs. The seasoning of sukiyaki is more salty than sweet and spicy. Since the meat was pork belly, I thought it would be a bit fatty, but it wasn't that rich and had a mellow flavor, but it was salty, so I guess it depends on your taste. Personally, with this quality of meat, I didn't have to make it into sukiyaki, it was enough with yakiniku sauce and a light salt and pepper, but I feel like they wanted to expand the menu. This trip started and ended with Olive Beef. I would like to pay attention to olive-based brands from now on. Ramen Goenyasu in Sakaide is a must-visit for ramen enthusiasts, especially if you're keen to try their renowned stir-fried bean sprout ramen. The restaurant's atmosphere buzzes with excitement as patrons line up even before opening time.

The parking lot was always full, so I was directed to a distant spot. What bothered me even more was that there were many regular customers illegally parking near the restaurant. The staff seemed to tolerate this, which was a bit annoying. My impression is that it's a restaurant where you enjoy the buzz and the feeling of having been there before, rather than the taste. (Translated by Google) This was my first visit. Even though it was before lunchtime on a weekday, it was so popular that we had to wait outside. I ordered the stir-fried bean sprout ramen with Tianjin rice set, with extra meat. I thought the meat would be char siu, but the meat in the stir-fried bean sprout ramen was thinly sliced. The amount of bean sprouts was enormous, and the noodles were curly egg noodles, so large that it felt like a large serving. The soup was a soy sauce tonkotsu flavor, reminding me of the soup at Tsukiyoshi in Yamamotocho, which has since closed. The menu is extensive, with some items not available at other locations. They sometimes close on days when ingredients are unavailable, so next time I'll check their Instagram and try to visit before opening time. Added on May 25, 2021 I've been there about five times since my first visit on March 2nd, but they've always sold out or had no parking available. Today, I finally got to try it. I wanted to try the rich char siu, so I ordered the rich char siu. The pork slices were thick and chewy, a texture you don't often find at other restaurants. The soup was certainly rich, but a bit salty, which was a bit of a drawback. Next time, I'd like to try a curry dish. Added on August 13, 2021 I ordered the egg-topped vegetable ramen and fried rice set, which many customers had ordered last time, with an extra egg. The soup was a thick, starchy sauce, but even I, who don't like hot food, enjoyed it and finished it all. Added on September 7, 2021 I had the egg-topped curry ramen with extra meat. It was not as spicy, but still had just the right amount of kick. I think the thickness of the soup was due not only to the thickness of the curry, but also to the thick sauce. The combination with the noodles isn't as good as curry udon, but the accents of the chives and egg made it very delicious. Added on March 19, 2022 The char siu topping on the stir-fried bean sprout ramen resembled pork shoulder, with just the right amount of fat to whet my appetite. Added on September 11, 2025 Large bean sprout topping with char siu. They were selling it as a souvenir. The amount of meat itself seemed small, but it was still very filling!

(Translated by Google) Revisited on 2025.6.21 This was my 5th visit and my first time trying the stir-fried bean sprout ramen (850 yen)!! I actually went to a rice ball shop, but it was fully booked Σ(-∀-;) I came to Goenyasu in Sakaide for the first time in a long time. It's been exactly 2 years since my last visit. There was a waiting list for one parking spot. There were many people waiting inside the store... I've always been impressed by the way the staff here serve customers. It's great to see them not only pay attention to the entire floor, but also to the parking lot!! All by myself, I took the order, served the food, and paid the bill Σ(-∀-;) I waited inside the restaurant for 30 minutes Finally, the stir-fried bean sprout ramen arrived The amount of bean sprouts was so huge that I couldn't even get to the noodles... It felt like I had eaten a year's worth of bean sprouts ( ̄▽ ̄;) The most popular is the stir-fried bean sprout ramen I always hesitate to try it, but I finally got around to it Of course it's delicious, but my personal preference I still prefer the vegetable ramen (*^^*) You have to try it at least once You can't always have a hard time deciding (^^; #VegetableRamenAfterAll 2023.7.1Revisited today's ramen shop While I was looking for a lunch option, I suddenly came across "Goenan's Vegetable Ramen" (^^; The challenge this time was vegetable ramen + grated garlic It was raining, and I thought I would be able to park in front of the store if I arrived 15 minutes before opening, but I was wrong (@_@) The parking lot was barely enough ( ̄▽ ̄;) I felt like I was in line more than ever I wonder if it was featured in something? I entered the store at the same time as it opened, the first course (^^)v I was guided to a table with four people even though I was alone I would have been fine with sharing a table... I ended up facing someone who was waiting, and I felt awkward...I couldn't relax...(((・・;) By the time the bowl arrived, the first customer had finished eating and paid A little relieved (((・・;) It's been a while since I've had vegetable ramen Hmm? It's a little stronger? But it's delicious But (^^) After I had finished half of it and put in the grated garlic, I was seated next to someone else "Now... ( ̄▽ ̄;)" I guess it depends on the order and number of people waiting... #Vegetable ramen + grated garlic #Sharing OK #Parking lot battle 2022.11.19 Revisited In light of the failure of giving up on my last visit because the parking lot was full, I arrived 15 minutes early and parked in front of the store (^^)d I waited in the chill and entered the store, but after opening time someone was available to enter immediately I'm really lucky (((・・;) I couldn't decide what to order. Salt ramen (add grated garlic for free to change the flavor) Fried rice set 600 yen + 250 yen Salt ramen, you can taste the salt. I wonder if these noodles are handmade. The unevenness is delicious (*^^*) 600 yen for two slices of pork and a boiled egg is cheap‼️ Then the fried rice tastes sweet (^^; The fried rice here has minced meat in it, and it's really a little sweet. The fried rice set went up in price from 150 yen to 250 yen last month. I was annoyed by the fact that the salt ramen had a lot of garlic as a default the other day, but I tried adding it for free as a flavor change. I personally don't like it... Next time, I'll definitely try the vegetable ramen with garlic topping! ️ [Previous post] The champon is delicious Revisited on 2022.3.19 I was supposed to arrive just before opening, but I took the wrong route (>_<) The parking lot was already full (((・・;) Waited for 5 minutes for parking, waited 10 minutes in front of the store Waited for a seat inside the store for 15 minutes Oh I was torn between the stir-fried bean sprout ramen and the vegetable ramen (750 yen), which I wanted to eat after all. While I was waiting in the restaurant, someone was eating fried rice and it looked delicious, so I ordered the fried rice set for an extra 150 yen (*^^*) I was worried if I could eat it, but I made the mysterious excuse that I had waited so long (^^; After all, there was too much of both ( ̄▽ ̄;) I ate it ( ̄▽ ̄)v It was delicious, so I could eat it, or rather, I couldn't leave it‼️ If there is a large portion plus a certain amount, I thought there was a half portion minus a certain amount. I think it would be fine if I did... I end up ordering a lot of dishes, so the restaurant would make a profit... It's not about the money, it's about not wanting to leave anything behind~ So I hesitate to order... Stir-fried bean sprouts are the specialty here I'd like to try them once, but I can imagine that I probably prefer vegetables so if I come alone, I'll probably hesitate like today and not order anything... The girls at the table behind me seemed to enjoy the free garlic and asked for more Next time, I'll probably get the salt ramen and rice set with garlic (Original) 2025.6.21再訪 5回目の訪問にして初の 炒めもやしラーメン(850円)‼ 実はおにぎり屋さんへ行ったのだが まさかの予約でいっぱい Σ(-∀-;) 同じ坂出で久しぶりの 五圓安さんに来てみました ちょうど2年振り♫ 駐車場は1台待ち 店内は待ち人多数…

Udon noodle restaurant
Nestled in a charming corner, Hamaya is a delightful udon restaurant that exudes an old-school vibe with its traditional table and tatami seating. Upon entering, you’re greeted by the warm atmosphere and the enticing aroma of freshly made udon. The menu boasts a variety of options, including their signature toriten udon—thin, soft noodles paired with a rich broth that has just the right amount of flavor.
(Translated by Google) It was my first visit in over 20 years, but the food was just as delicious as before, and the smiles of the staff made me feel very happy. Their specialty bukkake was of course delicious, but the fresh soy sauce was also very tasty, topped with plenty of grated daikon radish, ginger, green onions, and sesame seeds, allowing me to taste the full flavor of the udon directly. The oden they serve also had large pieces of tofu and the konjac was soaked in broth, and when drizzled with a generous amount of mustard miso sauce, it had a main dish-like presence that made it seem more like a side dish than a main dish. I would definitely visit again when I'm in Takamatsu.

I thought the price was aggressive, but when it came out, the fried food was huge. The noodles are slightly thin and soft, and the soup stock is mild. There are many types of udon, as well as side dishes and mackerel sushi. It was quite popular with the locals and was crowded. Since it was a weekend, there were many people with children. At self-service restaurants, you have to watch your small children while ordering, picking up, and paying, but full-service restaurants are more comfortable for parents as they can just sit down. revisit I went to another self-service chain store on Sunday at 13:00, but it was full so I came here. Udon refugees. It's hot, so I had bukkake and Yome had the famous cutlet curry. The cutlet was thick and juicy, and the roux-based curry went well with the noodles. The grilled mackerel sushi also has a satisfying taste. I would like to see a store like this do its best. As other people have said, it's so thick, but it's soft~~♡ The crispy batter is only half-immersed in the curry, which is perfect◎ Anyway, it's so soft ( ;∀;) sizzling~~ And of course, since it's Kagawa Prefecture, the main dish is udon, though it's a little overheated, the freshness of the thin noodles is delicious♡ The owner always smiles when he makes eye contact with the customer while stretching the udon dough◎ Udon is usually the focus, but the pork cutlet is delicious, rivaling that of a pork cutlet restaurant (*^^*) The udon and curry udon are delicious, but I have a feeling that the cold udon will also be delicious♡ Oh, by the way... I also had the shrimp box sushi in the glass case, which I highly recommend trying◎ I like the atmosphere and the fact that good old shops have box sushi like this (*゚▽゚*) From the time I entered until I left, I was very impressed 100% I hope it will continue for a long time... It's a very reliable place, especially since there are many chef-like staff. (There are many regulars.) I ordered the large Toriten Udon (two bowls). It's a udon noodle dish topped with 7mm slices of chicken breast, shiso leaf tempura, and thin green onions. The udon noodles are thin, with a smooth texture of 4/5. The firmness is also 4/5. The broth blends well with the broth, making it delicious! The broth is a little strong, making it a perfect match for the udon noodles and tempura. The udon noodles are a little small. For a full-service restaurant, the prices are self-service-level. Their specialty? Tonkatsu Curry Udon. While a little pricey, the spicy flavor makes it a recommended dish for this season! I forgot to take a photo of the udon because I was busy chatting and had to pick up my chopsticks (sadly). The interior has the feel of an old-fashioned udon restaurant, with only table and tatami seats. I sat at a table near the entrance and ate some toriten udon. The noodles are thin and soft. The soup stock has a mellow taste and is delicious. Toriten is a regular flattened chicken with one piece of chicken in it. 25 When I arrived at the store at 1:45 p.m. on February 15, there were still four customers and the store was open with plenty of time. When I sat down at a table and ordered cutlet curry udon, I was told that it was sold out today, so I had bukkake udon for 600 yen. The udon comes in a large bowl, and is completed by adding seasonings, lemon, and dashi stock. The noodles are chewy and elastic. The dashi soup was sour because I squeezed the lemon, but the sourness came out and it was delicious and easy to drink. 25 On April 30th, I came to the store at 12:00, sat down at a table, ordered cutlet curry udon for 980 yen, and it apparently took about 10 minutes. Looking at the menu, it appears that the cutlet is thickly sliced and takes time to fry. While we were waiting, the number of customers increased and some seats were reserved, so some tables were shared. The noodles are thin and chewy. The curry is spicy and delicious. The cutlet was thick but not soft and was the best. Day 5

Visit Naoshima Island
For day 5, stop by Naoshima Island in the morning to start off your day. Then, if time permits, visit Kita Bisanseto Bridge as well. If you end up going to all 3, that should fill up about 5 hours.

Naoshima Island

Island
Naoshima Island, located in the Kagawa District, is a renowned destination for art enthusiasts. The island boasts modern art museums, contemporary architecture, and outdoor sculptures. One of its most iconic features is the Yayoi Kusama's fiberglass yellow pumpkin sculpture. Naoshima also hosts the 'Setouchi Triennale' festival every three years, showcasing numerous pop art sculptures across the island.
We went to Japan with our 12 and 9 year old, it was one of our most memorable family trips and Naoshima island was definitely the most unforgettable! We stayed one night in the museum, the accommodation was luxurious and classy with amazing unobstructed view out of the balcony, had plenty of choices for dinner and the museum it self and the tour of the island was great fun for the adults and kids! To be honest when I booked it, I was worried that the family will hate me for the long journey here…it took one entire day from Tokyo, with train, bus, ferry, then some more bus! …they did moan abit about the long journey as kids do…but really loved every moment once they got here (perhaps the long journey even made them appreciate it more), it’s an awesome mix and balance of luxury accomodation, great food, art, architecture, nature and Japanese quirkiness that makes this country so unique, totally worth the long trek out. We absolutely loved it and would highly recommend it for families with 8+ and teenagers, it’s a must do!!

The quietest town I’ve visited in Japan—so peaceful you can count the number of locals you see on the street with your fingers. Ironically, it’s the tourists that bring the noise and life to this otherwise calm and sleepy island. I’m really glad I made the trip. If you love art, this place—often dubbed the Art Island—should be on your list. It’s not your usual Japan itinerary, and that’s exactly what makes it special. Be sure to plan your day well though, as the museums have specific opening times and require tickets. I recommend staying the night and renting a bicycle to explore the island at your own pace. It’s quiet, inspiring, and truly one of a kind.

one of my favorite places in japan! the whole island is really beautiful! our homestay provided us with bicycles so we went around the island with bicycles. (except to go to the benesse museum). lots of nice museum and sculpture scattered around the island. (the famous yayoi kusama pumpkin!) we even stopped by the I♥︎湯 sento. it was small but they had nice decoration inside. you can visit it during the day for free without having to take a bath. a really nice place if you like to walk around and explore things in a leisurely pace. will definitely come again and visit the neighboring island.

Beautiful, peaceful, inspirational, exciting, artful(is that a word?)…. Just sublime…. Not easy to get to but so worth the journey if you are looking for something different on your Japan journey….. and if you can afford it, worth staying a couple of days!

Just spent a lovely day here. Alot of walking but we're big walkers, bikes for rent which makes things much quicker and there's bus service around the island as well. Highlight for us was the Chichu Museum...the Monet was beautiful and James Turrell was a trip! Also hit the Valley Garden, some great insta moments there. Great day trip if you're in Okayama.

Took the ferry from Uno and hired e-bikes for the day. So easy to get around the island and see all the sites. Check and book the museums beforehand as some may be booked out. There was a Yayoi Kusama exhibition in Melbourne just before we travelled so was a amazing to see some of her other works in person on the island
Gavin K — Google review
A must go excellent art filled island. Stay on the island if you can get a booking.
John K — Google review
I'm not sure if I'm missing something but for a day trip this was kinda...meh. The museums were expensive to enter and sparsely furnished. The entry fee on some such as the art house project are just inexplicable. It honestly felt like a bit of a tourist trap given how expensive everything is on the island. We visited from Takamatsu and spent more time stressing about making the ferry times rather than enjoying the experience. Maybe if you stay on the island you have a better experience? The wolf thing was cool though.

讃岐国府跡, also known as the ruins of the Kokufu of Sanuki Province, is a historical site that was once an important administrative center during the Ritsuryo system. It served as a hub for various government affairs and ceremonies, with officials dispatched from the central government overseeing its operations. The area is dotted with related historical sites and monuments, including the Kokushicho Monument inscribed with details about its founders and contributors.

The Kokufu had facilities for carrying out various government affairs, and the Kokuji was responsible for political affairs and ceremonies, and the Kokushi (Kokushi) dispatched from the central government was in charge of the duties. There are related historical sites scattered nearby. By the way, the most famous of Sanuki's provincial governors was Sugawara no Michizane (886-890) during the Heian period, and in the Sugaya Bunso, a collection of Chinese poems that Michizane himself compiled, it says, ``The Kaiho-ji Temple is located west of Fuga.'' Because there is an annotation that says, ``It is located in the temple,'' it is assumed that the Kaihoji Temple mentioned in the history books is on the west side of this Kokufu ruins, and the ruins of the building have actually been excavated. To get to this place, you have to enter through a very narrow road, and it is impossible to turn around even in a light car, so we recommend visiting by motorbike, bicycle, or on foot. Now there is ``Fuchu Dam'', but back then it seems that he returned to the current ``Takinomiya'' mansion in Aya River (although horses would be fine). That place became today's Takinomiya Tenmangu Shrine. This is a story told by a local elderly person. However, when it comes to celebrities, ``Fujiwara Sari'' is a bit odd...but she's three marks. There is a book at the Kagawa Prefectural History Museum. What a national treasure. But ``Kinatsui'' is the best! For some reason People from Kagawa Prefecture don't know. He was a ``great benefactor'' to the Sanuki people of those days. Michizane, who arrived about half a century later, was always compared to him and it was difficult to deal with him (lol). I'm grateful that Natsui always has good things to say. In the end, he is worse off than Michizane, but it is because of his character that he does not turn into an evil spirit and go on a rampage. It's strange that it's still not included in textbooks. Udon noodle restaurant
Nestled in the charming Yogita Town of Zentsuji City, Kagawa Prefecture, Yamashita Udon is a beloved eatery that has become synonymous with delicious udon noodles. This casual spot, reminiscent of a cozy shed, is renowned for its bukkake-udon—cold noodles topped with chilled dashi sauce. Visitors often find themselves waiting in line during holidays to savor the rich flavors of their thick udon noodles, which are cooked to perfection in a large pot.
Very old place with same authentic taste and home made food. It’s located at the bank of a small river and foot hills. Old machinery is used to cook the food in Japanese style. Must visit this place

(Translated by Google) This Sanuki udon restaurant is loved by locals and tourists alike, and is known for its thick noodles and firm texture. It's not flashy, but it has a simple, old-fashioned atmosphere, and its charm lies in the peaceful countryside surrounding it, where you can savor your meal. It's self-service, so you can choose your toppings to your liking, giving you a great deal of freedom; you can simply enjoy the broth, or add fried foods and a soft-boiled egg for a more substantial meal. As it's a little away from the tourist center, it's quiet, and even if there is a line, the turnover is quick. The prices are reasonable, so you'll find yourself wanting seconds. Eating with locals while experiencing everyday life in Sanuki will be a great memory of your trip, and I think this is a must-visit restaurant for anyone who wants to fully enjoy the richness of the noodles. The noodles are thick and chewy, and the broth is cold but has a gentle flavor. This time I had it with shrimp tempura, which was fragrant and went perfectly with the udon. The sight of the chefs boiling the udon one after another in large pots is impressive, and even the wait is enjoyable.
