Matheran is one of the most peaceful hill stations I’ve visited. The fact that no vehicles are allowed makes it even more refreshing—no honking, no pollution, just the sound of birds and rustling leaves. Walking through the red mud paths surrounded by lush greenery felt like stepping back in time. Echo Point and Charlotte Lake were my favorites, especially at sunset. I visited Matheran during the monsoon, and it was an unforgettable experience. The forest was lush, waterfalls were everywhere, and clouds literally floated around us. Yes, the muddy trails can be slippery, but the beauty makes it worth it. Carry good shoes and raincoats—it’s a true adventure! My trip to Matheran was wonderful, but travelers should be prepared: a lot of walking, limited mobile network, and basic facilities compared to other tourist spots. But that’s exactly the beauty of it—it forces you to disconnect and soak in nature. If you want peace and simplicity, Matheran won’t disappoint.
Travel Dates: 2nd & 3rd Oct 2025 | Pune to Matheran Trip
We started our journey from Pune at 5:00 AM and reached Dasturi Naka by 8:45 AM, with a quick breakfast break at Khopoli. From there, we took the toy train from Aman Lodge at 9:35 AM to Matheran. A word of advice — carrying 1-2 heavy bags is manageable in the toy train, but more than that can be difficult due to limited space in the bogie. Kuli (a porter) are available at parking. They takes your language at hotel directly. If you missed the train Inwould suggest if you have energy and enthusiastic then just follow train track till your hotel. You will surely enjoy that walk.
We had pre-booked Hotel Devadkar, which is ideally located right in the heart of the market — directly opposite Matheran railway station. Very convenient!
We explored all major points in Matheran without using horses. If you enjoy nature walks and are comfortable walking around 5-6 km a day, you can easily cover all the viewpoints in two days. The scenic trails and peaceful surroundings made it a memorable experience.

From Echo Point to Panorama Point and lesser-known gems like Myra Point, every turn opens up to sweeping views of valleys, waterfalls, and endless greenery. During monsoons, the mist rolling over the cliffs makes it even more magical.
The vibe here is unhurried and peaceful. You’ll find small local stalls selling hot corn, cutting chai, and pakoras that taste extra good in the cool weather. Walking through the shaded forest trails feels refreshing, and the lack of vehicles makes it an ideal place to just wander without worry.
Matheran isn’t about rushing from spot to spot. It’s about slowing down — sitting by a viewpoint, watching the clouds drift, or simply enjoying the earthy smell of the red soil after rain. It’s perfect for couples, families, or even solo travelers looking for a quick break from the chaos of Mumbai or Pune.
If you’re looking for a short getaway that combines natural beauty, peace, and old-world charm, Matheran deserves a place on your list. It may not have the luxury of bigger hill stations, but it makes up for it with raw, simple, and soul-soothing experiences.
Not a relief from the scorching sun of Mumbai. I won't say a must visit hill station place but for people can have a small get away for a day. There are not may shops and they usually open late in the morning. The breakfast points have good Gujarati and South Indian food. There are few restaurants offering nonveg foods. Commute might be an issue. And beware of monkeys 😅
Matheran is the perfect weekend getaway. The air is so pure because it's completely vehicle-free—a true escape from city pollution! We loved walking the red mud paths and discovering the stunning viewpoints like Louisa Point. A major highlight was seeing all the horses with their wonderfully epic names—it truly added to the old-world charm! A must-visit for nature lovers. Be prepared to walk or enjoy a horse ride!

Very much safe and friendly place to spend some time with your loved ones. on weekends it is a bit crowded ’ otherwise weekdays are fun to explore the silence of nature and can be a tiring day if you go by walk everywhere so take some food chocolates and water along with you during exploring the points !

During my visit, I was mesmerized by the natural beauty. Trekking through the lush greenery, breathing in the fresh air, and soaking in the peaceful surroundings was an unforgettable experience. The place is free from heavy pollution due to its height above sea level, and since no gasoline vehicles are allowed at the top, everyone must walk — making it feel pure and untouched.

A Magical Monsoon Getaway!
Visited Matheran during the monsoon, and it was absolutely breathtaking. The entire hill station transforms into a lush green paradise with misty trails, cascading waterfalls, and cool, refreshing weather. The toy train ride (when operational) adds a nostalgic charm, and walking along the red mud paths in the rain feels like something out of a movie.
What I loved most is that Matheran is an eco-sensitive zone—no cars allowed—so it's peaceful, clean, and perfect for a quiet nature retreat. Do carry good shoes and a raincoat though, as it gets slippery. The panoramic views from places like Panorama Point and Echo Point are surreal with clouds floating around you.
Highly recommend visiting during the monsoon season (June to September) for a truly magical experience! 🌧️🌿🌄

This clean and pleasant place also boasts a variety of food stalls offering freshly prepared snacks. Nature lovers visiting in October or November can witness a magnificent waterfall from Echo Point.
Me and my family visit October 2024. I really feel like I am in a heaven. It was my first hill station visit. Small but very attractive hill station. You can found here all experiences of hill stations like mountains, waterfall, lush greenery, toy train and chilled weather etc. Echo Point at Matheran, as the name suggested this places is famous for the echoes which will hit back from the hills so don’t miss out to shout your name which will reiterate after you. It is the perfect vantage point to view the mesmerizing peaks of the western ghats. This place has multiple food and shopping stalls. You will have to use horses to travel or walk if you are comfortable as the area is maintained pollution free. I feel it is the best thing of the hill station that it is pollution free.

Echo Point is a beautiful spot, but the view can be unpredictable. When we first arrived, it was completely covered in clouds and we couldn't see anything. However, we waited a little while, and once the clouds cleared, the actual beauty of the place was revealed. It was well worth the wait.
A word of caution: be very careful with your belongings, as monkeys are a common sight and they are not shy about snatching things.
Overall, it's a stunning viewpoint, but be prepared for a potential wait for the clouds to clear and keep a close eye on your things.

Matheran’s Echo Point is truly a breathtaking spot that lives up to its name and more. As I walked through the red mud trails surrounded by dense greenery, reaching Echo Point felt like stepping into a serene painting. The view from the edge is absolutely stunning lush valleys stretch endlessly, and on a clear day, you can see layers of the Sahyadri hills stacked like waves. The cool breeze, especially in the morning, is refreshing, and the echo phenomenon is a fun little surprise shouting out into the vastness and hearing your voice bounce back feels almost magical. What made the experience even better was the peaceful atmosphere. Unlike many touristy viewpoints, Echo Point wasn’t too crowded when I visited, and the sound of wind rustling through the trees added to the calmness. I’d definitely recommend going just after sunrise or around sunset for the best views and cooler temperatures. If you’re in Matheran, this spot is a must visit both for its natural beauty and the quiet connection it offers with the landscape around you.

I recently visited Lord Point, just a short walk from Charlotte Lake, and was pleasantly surprised by the panoramic views unfolding before me. Lord’s Point is a peaceful place with a lovely view. Totally worth visiting for the calm atmosphere and scenic beauty. However, reaching here is quite difficult as you need to walk a lot or take a horse ride. Best for those who enjoy nature and don’t mind the trek.

We visited Matheran in weekend and it was as expected crowded than weekdays. Everything is expensive over there starting from food to horse rides to handicrafts. You will get no network so carry cash with yourself. Try to walk and visit all the points rather than waiting for a horse ride. It's a wholesome experience. You will experience serenity, peace to the fullest. Loved it. A proper one day trip.

Very beautiful view point in Matheran. Huge open space for you to sit, relax, spend some time with yourself or family/ friends, absorb the atmosphere (take tons of pictures if you wish to!).
On one side you have the beautiful landscape of hills and plateau and on the other side you have a beautiful waterfall!
There’s a long fence on the right, however there is a point where the fence is broken and one can just hop over and walk to the edge of the ledge for an adrenaline rush (although not advisable)!

Its a beautiful place with an amazing view truly worth visiting!.It’s the last viewpoint of the day, and the sunset looks stunning from here.
However, a word of caution for visitors: after sunset, there are no lights and very few signboards to guide the way back. The area is surrounded by forest, and it’s easy to lose your way once it gets dark. I was a solo traveller and got stuck there for a while — it was quite risky.
There are no animals or other dangers, but the main issue is the lack of lighting and directions. So, don’t go alone after sunset. Visit with someone or leave before it gets dark.

Recently on our trip to matheran we had our lunch at this hotel. As it name resembles Atithi the gesture here is the same as atithi. The food quality taste and overall everything was perfect. We tried chicken malvani masala. With bhakri and chapatis. Food was literally yum and budget friendly.

Recently we visited this restaurant and the taste was amazing and authentic. We tried their Chicken मालवणी मसाला 😍with chapati and तांदळाची भाकरी and it was so yummy like home made proper kokani food, and everything was Garma garam and there was no food colour added in it, It was the magic of their own masala. However they need to speed-up the cooking process. Each item took about 20mins to get ready probably due to lunch hour rush.

The place has a dhaba-like vibe, nothing fancy just good food and simple seating. What really stands out though is Shabbir uncle himself, a genuinely kind-hearted person who enjoys serving people.
They do offer other items too, but I would say stick to the biryani, it’s their speciality (as the name says).

First of all this hotel is popular for BIRYANI and I must tell you if you have tasted biryani in Mumbai and Hyderabad then its no where near to them. And if you are maharashtrian then its just a fodnicha bhaat with chicken. They don't even bother to keep this place clean. Plates were dirty and so much dust. Chiken kadhai which i tasted was ok. Don't drink butter milk and waste your money.
Best option for Halal food in Matheran with good taste and great varieties of dishes. The price is also reasonable as per the tourist place. It's mainly well known for the authentic taste of Biryani even at the hill station.
If you are looking for Non Veg - Shabbir Bhai is good, this amazing place is known for serving delicious authentic biryani since 1984. Shabbir bhai is very famous in Matheran and you can definitely eat good non vegetarian food here. In his old age even today the owner Shabbir bhai is still determined to serve his customers with delicious food. I have been eating at this place since childhood everytime we visited Matheran and had the opportunity to know the owner and see the transition over the years but what I can guarantee is that the taste hasn't changed and they still serve very tasty food.
Very famous for it's Biryani throughout Matheran and the hype is well justified. I won't say that the Biryani you get here is out of the world (especially if you have had Biryani at Mumbai/Pune restaurants), but it's decent enough to give it a try.
The location is good too, just behind the Mosque in the Main market (prefer visiting in afternoon). It's a very basic eatery with 5 tables laid out in the verandah, but the hygiene of the restaurant is questionable.
Not as good as the hype, the quality of chicken biryani was just enough for one person and the cost was Rs.130. The chicken was quite dry inside, overall and average place to eat. My sister ordered dal rice which was for the same price and tasted like home food. There are better places in Matheran to eat.

Prabalgad Fort, located in Maharashtra between the villages of Matheran and Panvel, stands at an elevation of 2,300 ft. Accessible by a challenging hike of 6 to 8 km, it offers breathtaking views and features a Hindu temple. The fort has been ruled by various dynasties and sultans throughout history. While climbing the fort, trekkers can enjoy historical buildings, viewpoints, natural scenery including waterfalls and diverse flora.
Great trekk, will call it easy. Traile were misleading at some places so please do follow markings marked on the stones if there is multiple ways see the rocks nearby if there is no rock see bottles hanging from trees or cloth tied to branches for the direction. Good trekking shoes recommended and rain coat compulsory.

This trek is test of your endurance specially in summer days. We lost one trail and wasted half hr. (Take left after one open area. Check for red arrows and a ribbon for turn)
We started at 7 and it took us 3 hours to reach the main top portion. On left you can go towards Kalavantin Durg View Point. On Right Side you will find ruins on Wada, Ganesh Mandir. Further 1km ahead there are few points that can be covered.
It's a medium difficult trek.
Local people are good and helpful.
Carry good shoes and full trackpant/ Jeans, avoid wearing shorts while trekking.

Prabalgad is osm treck By to reach there by Train: Board the train on Mumbai central and get off at Panvel railway station on harbour line. From Panvel bus station, take a state transport bus to Thakurwadi village. Thakurwadi village is the base village for Prabalgad and from here you have to trek to Prabalmachi, the base stop, from where the climb starts.

Irshalgad Fort is a mountain peak that can be reached by hiking and offers stunning panoramic views. The area features ancient stone ruins of a fortress which adds to the charm of the place. It is recommended to visit during the monsoon season, when the rain enhances its beauty. The climb is moderately challenging up until the base village, but well worth it once you reach the top.
Easy fort to climb, only last patch is a bit moderate level. Have enough water and food with you. The Gumfa is bit tough to identify and to reach as well. Mesmerizing views of Morbe Dam you will get. Really a worthy trekk in monsoon and post monsoon. You can easily complete the trek in 2 hours if you go non stop and come back as well in 1.5 hours

Beautiful one day trek in Chouk, Karjat near Mumbai.
To reach here, you can take ST till Chouk and walk till Nanivali or take direct auto to Nanivali.
The trek is kinda easy, with a steep incline patch in the start and a rock patch at the end.
There a Nedhe at the top (which is now broken)
You can enjoy panaromic views of Morbe Dam and surroundings.
Remember to take left from Irshalwadi (the village which got destroyed in a landslide) and then ascend from there.
Good place for a one day trip.

I have done multiple treks in Maharashtra. One thing is common in all treks. Friendly Villagers living their peaceful life; selling poha, maggie, lemon juice to trekker with smiley face.
It is heartbreaking to see the entire village engulfed by landslide and abandoned thereafter.
When you reach the top, you see the amazing view of the sahyadris with mountains, waterfalls and greenery all around. Then you look down and see the few houses remaining after the entire village was swept away in landslide. Even though we enjoyed the view, we couldn't stopped thing how we are nothing compared to nature. It is scary that more than 50 people from the village are still missing and possible buried under the landslide.
About the trek, I would say it is easy-moderate for trekkers with experience. For comparison, difficulty and risk level is similar to Kalavantin Durg. Most of it is steady ascend. There are some tricky portions; but there are ladders. So it is easily doable even in Monsoon with some caution. Reaching the absolute top(pinnacle) is not possible without ropes. We went only till the saddle portion.
Irshalgad trek was full of excitement and thrill — a true test of endurance. But as soon as you reach the top, the panoramic views of the nearby forts and the shimmering Morbe Dam are absolutely breathtaking and ethereal. Steeped in history, Irshalgad served as a strategic watchtower during the reign of the Marathas, offering a commanding view of the surrounding region and acting as a sentinel fort for the mighty Prabalgad.
As we are regular trekkers, it took us 1.5hrs to reach the top.
Starting early is important as 1st hill is bit tough otherwise whole trek is easy. Carry ample amount of water n food.
The trek is almost 1.5hrs from the parking if you go continuously. There is definitely a chance of getting lost once you reach the plateau halfway, so make sure to shout to the uncle in the middle for help if you feel you're lost. In monsoon the entire path is slippery and definitely watch out for snakes. The view from the top is amazing. Not a lot of history about the fort, it has not fortifications. Just a few water tanks, so it was probably like a watch tower than a fort. You can see Matheran from up there as well.
Good weekend trek.About 3-4 hours going up and half the time coming down.Part of the trail is a bit tricky to find,from the last abandoned village. Enough drinking water and proper footwear recommended.
Please carry your trash back and dispose of it properly.
Good for beginners and for the trekkers who've spent too much time on office chairs that their body has forgotten about climbing.
The hike drains most of your stamina in the first hill. Then it shows mercy on you and offers a plain plateau till your heart knows how to pump in rhythm to provide just enough adrenaline so you keep going. One more small climb and you reach the 'almost' destination. From where an easy but slightly dangerous climb starts. You use ladders and ropes to climb the last part and reach the iconic rock frame of Irshalgad.
To Sum it up:
Approximately 4 hours to go and come back. You have a parking space at the base village and keep your stuff there. The hike is moderately easy. Somewhere in the middle of Mumbai and Pune. Good accessibility by personal vehicle and I've seen a railway station along the way. Please keep water handy but not too much to weigh it up on you. Also bring snacks along. And if you can try buying stuff from people there.

Visitors can also enjoy horse riding, take a ride on the Toy Train, or visit Kadyavarcha Ganpati from Aman Lodge railway track walking towards Neral.
Getting to the points is a great experience. Some of the paths are densely forested, quiet and very peaceful. Alexander point is very close to the Market. The view is awesome and would be best during sunrise or sunset. On the way to the point one of the locals pointed out a mini echo point which was pretty neat, keep an eye out for it.

Though my pictures are of off season's and also off time's as this point is famous for sunrise view...this is one of the maintenance points in Matheran..if possible try to go here @ time of sunrise ..damn sure you would love it.
The ghodawallas might not bring you to this point because of their nexus, but DO visit this place. It's just a few minutes' walk away from the market. A local guy Sujay Bhosale runs a stall there along with stargazing and overnight camping facilities. Definitely worth the nature trail hike to this place!
Must visit this point when you are in matheran! The view from here is makes you nostalgic. There are two trails from the main market, one takes you to Alexander point and 6 other points that is on left side straight! Where as the other one is on the right hand side which takes you to echo point and 4 other points. Meanwhile you can reach from one point to other From both of the trails. Charlotte lake comes in between. The straight trail on left side is more longer one and the horse riders don't prefer it. You will find very less people follow this trail . Most of the people reach here from Charlotte lake and that really cuts so much distance. I must say visit matheran in the monsoon and it's a heaven of Maharashtra,the beauty of Western ghats. One of my favourite points in Matheran.
It is on the far side where less people visit, but if you like to climb up rocks you get to experience a great view from here also if you want you can trek down the mountain (at your own risk, not advised).

Very scenic views one must visit this point while in Matheran..
Visited One Tree Hill Point on July 02, 2023 at Matheran through trek from base village but could not climb on last point which is called one tree hill being slippery and foggy. It's quite risky in monsoon so everyone should avoid climbing the last point. Views are amazing and has waterfalls while descending from old British route.

This is an interesting sightseeing point. And it's amazing to see just a single tree on the hill. nice tourist attraction. One Tree Hill as the name suggests has just one tree on the hill top among all other surroundings nearby which have dense tree & forest cover. One can go near the hill but cannot climb without harness or rope and reach the hill top near the tree. There are much better places in and around Matheran for sight-seeing. Missing this one is advisable. It about 45 minute’s walk from the Matheran railway station on small stones filled roads. Walking is uneven and may prove damaging to the ankles. No vehicles are allowed inside Matheran.
Instead of riding a horse, we trekked for 5 km to reach One Tree hill and it was worth the experience. The path to the tree was a bit challenging but the view and the feeling after reaching that place was amazing. We started early in the morning around 6 so there was no one in the place except us. But during our time of return to the hotel around 9-10 we started seeing groups around that place. So if you want to just sit and enjoy the place, visit early.

Visited this point during my Matheran trip. Although the name is Monkey Point, I couldn't spot any monkeys at this place. We visited this place in the morning before noon. The view of the hills and the sky is really amazing here! There was nobody here so it was a calm place to enjoy the view. If you're walking to this place while having your short trek from Aman Lodge railway station then it's definitely worth waiting here for a while. The horse riding also covers these spots but they cheat you by charging extra money for stopping at this point. Beware of those people trying to convince you to get on a horse to ride till Matheran, they just wanna extract money out of you.
The path to get there is dangerously slippery and mostly unpaved.
The steps are a life risk to walk on.

It's a great lovely scenic spot for lounging/sitting and taking selfies; we get there about 7Am .We saw no monkeys throughout that period.
A beautiful spot to view the sunset and the valley lying beyond. Overall Matheran trip is a very refreshing and close to nature experience. I personally suggest everyone to make a trip to this hill at least once in your lifetime!
Great view from this point. It is situated very aptly from where one can see beautiful mountain lush green during monsoon. It is the first point recommended to visit during Matheran visit. There is an offbeat trail which leads to the point and thus, it is not as densely crowded during tourist season. From here, one can find a jungle trail, to next view point which is pretty adventurous and passes through forest. The forest trail is mildly adventurous as you may have to climb through/under fallen trees and landslides areas. Not recommended to take the trail during rains and must be taken at your own risk. The forest route directly leads to the next viewpoint.
Otherwise, one may take the regular tourist route too. I am attaching an image of the forest trail with this review to get an idea.

I did this trek in monsoons (July). Amazing experience. Breathtaking views of lake and mountain. Greenery all around.
Trekking shoes (sturdy) and dri fit clothes are must carry. Raincoat and walking stick will be useful.

One of the greatest locations for families with low to medium levels of difficulty is Garbett Plateau, which is also the ideal time of year to visit from the monsoon to the winter.
The journey from the railway track to Garbett Point takes almost an hour, and there is a beautiful view for photographers.
Take a water bottle and some snacks because there are not many people shopping there and it is a hidden gem of the beauty of nature. Good for the team. Since there are no proper roads for off-road tracking, appropriate attire and footwear are preferable to standard items.

It was my first solo trek, It was very good. The view was mesmerising and heavenly.
Tips: 1) carry water with you, 2) also some small snacks, 3) wear long sleeves and long pants, 4) you’ll need good hiking boots to descend from the peak, 5) if you going in early morning carry a torch with you, 6) you’ll encounter some leeches, skinks or snakes, so be careful. Don’t pollute the place and carry back the plastic bottle and wrappers with you… All the best happy trekking 👍🏻

Great view point, it has a calmness of it's own as well. Can go to Matheran in 30 mins or so from Garbett point as well. It's very windy, and you have to climb it at most places with both your hands and feet if you're under 5.5 like me. Definitely not for someone with acrophobia.
I went solo here. Very beautiful place, you don't have to worry about anything, locals are very supportive and friendly. Just trek carefully and preserve the environment 🌱

A quiet secluded point. Not crowded like the others. Its a walkable distance from the main market area. Horse operators falsely claim that this place is far and the roads are bad. But the road to this place is actually better than some of the other points! Best time to visit would be sunrise and sunset. Carry your own water as there were no stalls when I visited this place.

The restaurant is beside the main Matheran market road. From the outside, it seemed to be a neat restaurant but they don't have the best hygiene. The plates and cutlery were not cleaned properly. We cleaned it with tissue which turned brown. The Alankar special chicken was good, roti was ok and lachha parata was not authentic. The pudding was delicious which they got from Neral.
Had dinner here which was super tasty. I enjoyed a chicken kadhi and jeera rice. The resturant was not busy so the service was super quick. That did concern me a little as to whether it was pre cooked. As a European we have delicate stomachs. However, the chicken while bone in was super tasty and cooked well throughout. The gravy was expertly spiced with a fantastic combination mix that perhaps only the chef knows. The rice was aromatic and served perfectly. The portion size was indeed very generous. With the addition of a side dish this meal would have been ample for two people.
I can heartily recommend this place for service and food quality.
The quantity was good, One dish is enough for two people. However, the taste was disappointing, and it didn’t feel hygienic at all. Prices were also on the higher side. I would recommend trying other restaurants instead.
While exploring the Matheran market, we came across Alankar Hotel and decided to have lunch there. We ordered chicken manchow soup, Alankar special chicken, tandoori roti, and butter garlic naan. The food was delicious. If you love non-veg dishes, Alankar Hotel is a must-visit in Matheran, and they also have great options for vegetarians.
This place is right in the middle of the market, so no matter where you are staying in Matheran, you can easily walk here for a meal. If you are looking for non-veg halal food, this is one of the better options around.
They have got a decent variety of non-veg dishes, and the taste is actually pretty good. The staff is quite responsive and usually serve your order within 30 minutes. Prices are fair too, expect to spend around ₹500 for two people, which is decent for a hill station with limited options.
The wash basin is extremely dirty, like really bad. It honestly makes you think twice about the overall hygiene.
So yeah, come here for the food, but avoid using the wash area if you can. I would say it’s worth a visit if food is your priority and you're okay with ignoring the hygiene bit.
So this place looks nice from outside but not really worth to go. Food quality is not really great and the test is also okay. We wanted to have good meal but we end up paying for the food which didn’t like. Also service is bad and staff is slow. Also they don’t have washroom so if you are eating or you are there and need to use toilet they don’t have. This is not angar or fake review. I have visited and this is what I felt.

If anybody wants to have authentic taste of konkani food in matheran then please visit these "konkan katta" restaurant. Authentic konkani taste. And specially solkadhi which is very soothing. We tried prawns thali which was very tasty and budget friendly. Loved it.

Fraud hotel kokan katta..
We ordered papalet thali. Its price was 400 rupees on the menu card, so we ordered it. Then when we got the bill there, we were told that it was not 400 rupees. It was 600 rupees. 600 rupees is very expensive.
When the biller asked his waiter, he was told that he had already told the customer the price. But he didn't say anything first.
The taste was not even a little good. There is a hotel in the name of Konkan but it does not have even a little taste. If you go there, ask the price carefully.
We ordered chicken masala and they said it wasn't available so they said only egg curry is available. Imagine at 2pm they dont have ghavne, bhakri and chicken curry ready to serve the guests. Then we ordered bombil fry which was very oily and it cost 160bucks for just 2 bombil and you can see the egg curry quantity in the plate for 120bucks clearly which is expensive. Rotis were soft but not warm. Seating is good.
Fish was not fresh it was very chewy. Curry was not good too.
We tried Prawns Thali here in Kokan Katta and it was sooo yummy like home made kokani food. We loved their food, so delicious and so tasty. Especially their prawns masala fry was top notch and their Solkadi which is perfect and so soothing.

We visited Hakimi Restaurant for Chinese food and found the overall experience to be average. The fried rice was overly oily, but the staff responded promptly and ensured that my next dish had less oil. I highly recommend the Chicken Masala Lollipop; it was exceptionally tasty.
However, there are a few concerns. Dining outside the restaurant area can be quite noisy due to the market's activity. Exhausted and hungry, a local friend suggested Hakim for Non-veg Food. We ordered, for the Khepsa (Half, which was sufficientfor 6 of us!) For the first time.
I must say, besides being filling, it was delicious! We tried the chilly chicken dry and the sweet chili chicken dry and both were excellent!

Vikatgad or commonly known as Peb Fort, is a hill fort in Matheran mountain range.
The trek has two routes, one from Fanaswadi in Neral and other one from the Matheran Toy Train track route.
We took the toy train track route this time and it was quite scenic.
All along the way you get to enjoy foggy views, water streams and valley views.
The trail to the top is a narrow cliffside walk with some slippery patches and ladders, but not much to worry about. Can reach the top easily in 2 hours.
On the top there is a temple and you get panoramic views of surroundings.

Wonderful trekking destination near Matheran — perfect for beginners trekkers. The trail offers a mix of lush greenery, rocky patches, and scenic views of surrounding valleys. During the monsoon, the entire route becomes magical with flowing streams and misty hills.
The fort has caves, a small temple and a flag point offering breathtaking views. The trek takes around 2.5–3 hours from the base village Neral. Or you can park your car in Matheran parking and start walking along with Neral Rail patari.

It was my best trek till now with full of difficulty and adventure. We started the trek at 9am in the morning and reached up at 1pm. It depends on your speed. I will suggest to not go from Matheran village if you want to experience the thrill... Take the auto from Neral station to fanaswadi village it will cost 30rs per person. Ask anyone there they will tell you the starting point of the trek and you will see the 3 network towers there that's the starting point follow the directions (arrows marked with white color) and go ahead. Please carry some white color if possible because there are no markings at some points in the start so if you get confuse please do mark so that trekkers will not get lost.THIS ROUTE IS ONLY WHO HAS EXPERIENCE IN DOING HARD TREKS & NOT FOR THE BEGINNERS. If you are going through this route make sure you are going on weekends so that you will be alone out there. The original name Vikatgad is not widely known, and the fort is better recognized by the significant role it once played — as the "Peb Fort." Most people know it by this name.
Situated in the Matheran hill range, this fort was used as a "pevi" (granary) during the establishment of Swarajya (the Maratha self-rule). The nearby major forts — Chanderi and Tahuli — are extremely difficult to climb, making it impractical to store large quantities of grain there. As an alternative, it was decided to store the grain on Vikatgad due to a strategic advantage: before the British became rulers of India, the only access route to this fort was from the village of Neral. This path passed through dense and deceptive forest, which made it easier to defend the fort. Because of this natural protection, Vikatgad was chosen to serve as the main granary, and from there, the stored grain could be quickly transported to the other two forts and to Prabalgad when needed.
Over time, the fort came to be known not as a granary (pevi), but as Peb Fort. This name likely evolved due to the nearby temple of Pebi Devi located at the base of the fort, influencing the linguistic shift from pevi to peb.
Later, the British declared Matheran as a tourist destination and built roads and railway tracks through the hills to facilitate transport. As a result, the final stretch leading to the fort became easier to access. Since there was no gate on this side of the fort, iron ladders were installed near the fort walls, close to the railway tracks, making the climb easier. Using this route, one can reach the fort in about an hour and a half. Today, the old granaries atop the fort have been transformed into the Math (monastery) and meditation temple of Swami Samarth.

This is a very friendly and beginner-friendly trek for first-time trekkers based in Matheran, near Mumbai. The difficulty level is very easy to moderate. At the top, there’s a small temple dedicated to Swami Samarth, and the viewpoint offers a mesmerizing view of Matheran. The trails are scenic, and it’s best to visit during monsoon to enjoy the greenery and rains.☔
Friendly advice: If you’re planning to go on a weekend, start early in the morning to avoid the crowd. Going late means dealing with huge crowds, taxi rush, and you won’t really get to enjoy the time or the view.. :')))
We took the trekking route from Phanaswadi (Neral), and at certain points, the climb was quite challenging for us. One major mistake we made was not checking the weather forecast beforehand, which resulted in trekking through continuous rainfall. I highly recommend checking the weather conditions before planning your trip. Also, if you're a beginner, I would suggest starting with an easier trek, as this one can be quite demanding.
Also, a small tip: carry some chocolates in your bag, they help maintain your sugar levels and provide quick energy, especially at higher altitudes.

Charlotte Lake, also known as Sharlott Lake, is a serene reservoir located 2 kilometers from Matheran Railway Station in Maharashtra. It is a popular tourist destination and a must-visit spot in the best hill station of Maharashtra. The lake is at its fullest during the monsoon season, offering a picturesque view with its small dam and waterfalls. Surrounded by lush green forests, it provides an ideal setting for nature enthusiasts, peace seekers, and bird watchers.
This is probably the best place to spend time with the company of calmness in Matheran. To reach Charlotte Lake, it would require a little trekking following the trail in the wild. The lake is beautiful, totally worth the little trek to reach there. It feels peaceful to sit by the lake especially when you've got good company along with you. Charlotte Lake & Lord’s View Point are next to each other. It’s known for the pretty sunsets, there are small stores close by that sell snacks and tea.
It’s a small hike for 15min from the main path. It is super safe both at day and night to walk through the forest. I would recommend this place if you’re at Matheran for visit.

This lake is a good place to visit in Matheran. The walkway to the lake is quite scenic. The lake is artificial and small but there is a nice view of landscape on the other side.
This is a nice lake in Matheran. The scenic setting with the surrounding green hills along with the lake, is really beautiful. However the lake is not well maintained. With influx of tourists, comes tonnes of garbage being dumped here and there.
If maintained properly, it could be on a European level.

Heart Point is located at a walkable distance from Aman Lodge (Dasturi Gate). It has a good view of the hills. It's one of the closest points from Dasturi Gate. You can visit this place and get some photos clicked. Horse riders may try to scam you by taking you to this place on their horse while riding route, there's no need to take a horse ride or pay anything extra. Also, beware of horse riders, they're not clear about the horse riding charges in the start and try to loot you.
Among the easiest and fastest point to access and also the view of other points and the waterfalls from Ground below Heart point and the villages afar are awesome .. it's like a channel to attract the clouds .. u can the old mountain walking trek line also which are used by the villagers . The monkeys are a hungry attacking lot over here. Avoid carrying food items openly and have plenty of water along .. the steep walk to heart point ground will be the most memorable as the waterfall . Ganpati statue view and the railway track view is capped off by the huge planes flying over the head which has the point as a marker surely for turning towards Mumbai airport ..

As the main drop station from Aman Lodge, it provides access to hotels, shops, and food options before embarking on trekking or horseback riding towards the main attractions.
Very systematic process for ticket booking. Journey is superb. No advance booking or online reservation, just 4 tickets per person max. Every ticket with seat number is provided. Seats are very comfortable. Rs 45/- ticket for 2nd class for adult. First class could be rs. 305/- due to which may be first class not booked fully. Booking of ticket starts just 45 minutes before the schedule time of train.

I never really understood what harassment of customers felt like until I met some horse carriers over here. Initially, they started on their own, following our car all the way to the parking area. They began telling us about the viewpoints inside and insisted that horses were the only way to get around.
We said we preferred to walk, but they started mocking us, saying things like, “If you had to walk, then why did you even come to Matheran?” We ignored it and started moving forward, but they kept following us. From the entry ticket counter to the nearby horse stand, they continued saying how genuine they were and that we could pay only after the trip.
This went on for another 20 minutes. During that time, they kept dropping their prices—from ₹1600, to ₹1200, then ₹1000, and finally down to ₹500 per person. They were not letting us move ahead freely, and soon their entire group started forcing us. At one point, we felt a little scared because they were a bunch of guys, they had seen our car, and we were worried they might cause some harm.
Somehow, we managed to move ahead, and to our relief, we saw e-rickshaws available with a small queue, as well as trains.
Inside, there are plenty of ways to travel, and I would strongly suggest not taking a horse ride. You won’t enjoy it as much as walking, taking the train, or an e-rickshaw. Plus, the attitude of these horse owners is enough to spoil the trip.
We chose to walk through the tracks and pathways, and honestly, it felt like the best decision.
This is the main drop station of matheran from aman lodge. Here many hotels, shop, foods are available after that you can start main trekking towards main visit point by walking or by taking the horse from here also. Washroom he just opposite to station behind the blue engine. Absolutely amazing hill station must visit once in monsoon for beautiful view of clouds. This place is pollution free zone because no vehicles are allowed here except the toy train. Very good place for weekend for mumbaikars and for the pune people’s. one is enough to visit but should come on early basis to visit fully with peacefully.
Absolutely amazing. As Matheran is a hill station, you either need to reach there by a private vehicle or by train. They provide a narrow gauge toy train service till Matheran hills. There is a straight forward process. Ticket counter opens approx. 1 hour before the train scheduled time. Just buy the ticket outright from the ticket window. No advance booking or reservations. The journey from this toy train is more memorable than actual destination. If you visit in monsoon, then it will be even more pleasant.
Matheran railway station is the last station of Neral-Matheran toy train. It is a central point of Matheran, from there you can go to various beautiful points. There is selfie point, which shows I ❤️ Matheran. Around station the main market is there. Also area surrounded by hotels & shopping outlets.

Honestly quite an easy trek. Just 20-30 minute patch before the last leg of trek is difficult due to steep climb. Overall great views and very well maintained by locals. Will find food stalls in every 30 minutes of the trek. Even at the top there is a food stall.
Also, nice mini pool at the foothills of the trek. There is also a waterfall in a detour of 20 minutes. The trek has 3 routes at-least.
Visited Garbett Point in Matheran and it was truly a breathtaking experience🏔️! The trek to the point is scenic, especially during the monsoon☔️ when everything turns lush green. The view from the top is absolutely mesmerizing with panoramic sights of valleys, waterfalls, and distant hills.🌄 It’s less crowded compared to other points, making it peaceful and perfect for nature lovers and photographers📸. Do wear good trekking shoes as the path can get slippery during rains. Totally worth the effort for the stunning views. Bring some food with you like we do.

Garbett Plateau is an absolute gem for nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts. We started our trek early morning from Bhivpuri side — the trail was scenic, filled with lush green meadows, waterfalls, and beautiful valley views all around 😍
The trek is moderately challenging — good shoes and stamina are a must. Reaching the plateau feels like stepping into a dream... cool breeze, panoramic views of Matheran hills, and complete peace away from the city noise. Perfect spot for photography and relaxing.

Getting to the Garbett Plateau from the Garbett Point is a bit tricky especially during monsoon.
During monsoon I would recommend taking a long but safer and scenic trail to the plateau.
On the way to Garbett Point, there will be another trail on the right hand side (easily recognised) which will take you to the plateau on a rather safer way during monsoon.
Visit early so you can be back before the sundown.
One of my best trek experience, this is not for beginners, please go with experience trek person if you're going in monsoon, we trek for 3 and 30 mins to reach at the plateau, started from bhivpuri ended at matheran point, we took back experiencing some mesmerizing view and great weather.. so much funny 😍

We recently visited Matheran with friends and stayed at Hotel Panorama for two days. It was an absolutely wonderful experience.

I stayed a weekend with my family including my child. Excellent experience with very much polite ans homely behavior of Owner and all the staff of the Hotel. Food quality is very good with top quality raw materials, ingredients and cooking. It's perfectly neat and clean. It is 5 mins or less than 5 mins walk from Matheran Railway station, e.rickshay stand and market. All the tourist spots can be easily accessed from this location. Our family trip to Mathern was made truly special by our stay at Paranoma Hotel. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality. Every staff member from the manager to the housekeeping team was incredibly caring, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile.
We felt like we were receiving 5-star treatment throughout our stay. The level of service we received far exceeded what we paid for it was absolutely worth every penny and more.
Though the resort is purely vegetarian, the food was a delightful surprise. There was a wide variety of dishes, all delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Every meal was a treat in itself!

For day 4, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with Belvedere Point, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Pisarnath Mahadev Mandir. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Great trek I've had, I recommend you should go on this trek on monsoon, you'll find toilets and resting places you can rest while trekking.
Amazing Hidden Gem of Matheran, It is also known as reverse waterfall as the grass, bush, Water whatever you through comes revesre due to high air pressure. Which makes it more fascinating and worth visiting.
Good time to visit is rainy season.
Also try to visit early morning 7 am or 4-7 pm for a landscape scenario which is very eye soothing.
Super spot with beautiful view and a waterfall nearby, which in winters dry out so again good spot to go to for nice panoramic views of the valley and morbe dam..
Do try and reach this point early to have it to yourself or very few folks… and prefer before 9am
Belvedere Point is a bit far from the main market, but the journey to reach it is absolutely worth every step. The walk through the serene forest trails makes it even more rewarding. Great spot for view. You'll find mountainous views as well as lake views from here. Quite spacious viewpoint, unlike other points that get quite crowded. I visited on the weekend yet there were very few people here. Sit here, enjoy for a bit and then move ahead.

Visiting Rambaug Point at 2:00 AM was nothing short of magical. We were told it’s a quiet spot perfect for stargazing, and it lived up to every word. Getting there involved a short trek through the forest, which was a bit dark but thrilling since we were in a big group.
Once we reached, the view was breathtaking. Sitting under a clear sky full of stars, surrounded by the silence of nature, felt surreal. It’s one of those rare moments where time slows down, and you just soak in the beauty around you. Definitely an experience I’ll never forget!

Good views from this point.
Rambaug point is a small midway viewing balcony between Alexander point and little chowk point. It gives enchanting views of magnificient garbet plateau, Sondai fort & chowk point.
There goes a path from rambaug point to pokharwadi village which is a gentle slope and is now an offbeat trek route. This route is usually taken by villagers to get milk & fodder for horses on matheran.
We got down from Rambagh point and went to Burujwadi and got to see very beautiful environment and beautiful nature...My favorite place is Matheran near Mumbai and full of nature.
Sunrice from this place is never seen in my life. And i think it is best place for 'manh shanti' and meditation. We are fill happy and enthusiast from this place. I think everybody visit this place once in a life. Fresh Air, no pollution. Only Shanti. Peaceful.

Getting to the points is a great experience. Some of the paths are densely forested, quiet and very peaceful. The route to Rambaug was especially unique since there were parts where the forest just seemd very dense. Rambaug point is also very close to the Market and quite close to Alexander point. The view is awesome and would be best during sunrise.

One of the best point in matheran. It has a huge panoramic view overlooking mighty morbe dam and irshalgadh fort in background. If you are heading here in monsoon, you are about to witness a huge adobe of clouds and lush green mountains. Watch out dont go too close to the edges because it gets a little slippery due to rains.

A nice point which gives out a scenic view like all the typical other points in Matheran. Not many people visit this place as it is comparatively far away from the market. Thus people hire a horse to avoid around 3 km of walking. The area is surrounded by forest and is a bit secluded yet beautiful. There is one snack stall vendor just before the point and you can get basic snack options to your delight.

This temple is located in the hill-station of Matheran in Maharashtra, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
This is the oldest temple in Matheran and the deity Pisarnath is the grama devata of Matheran village.
The idol of Lord Shiva in this temple is 'Swayambhu'(self-manifested) and appears in an extraordinary titled ‘L’ shape. The entire idol is covered with 'Sindoor'.
The temple has a simple house like structure constructed in brown stone.
This ancient temple is on the banks of a lake which is now known as "Charlotte Lake".

I often rest at this place for more than 30 minutes. Because the cool breeze coming from charlotte lake is awesome and the view is near perfect.
Temple is good, cool and well sheltered. It is a meeting point of two trails. And also starting trail for lords point from where you can have a exotic view of whole valley.
At Lord's point, telescopes are present. From here you can see hidden wonders in those mountains.

Great place. east side of the valley. There is a heavy breeze her with great view. Small shop is also there. Horse goes there and walking distance is easy.
It is much more accessible to go to the other Mountains if you dare to go through the narrow rock path covered by two side valleys. one should be cautious and alert before crossing the railing.

Honeymoon Point offers a calm and refreshing view with a nice valley backdrop
It’s a pleasant spot to relax, especially in the evening with cool breeze
The walk is enjoyable if you love nature, though the facilities are limited
Not the top highlight of Matheran, but definitely worth visiting once for the peaceful vibe
Not much to see there,..but as the name says it...everyone goes there to see..not much crowded..very calm place ...i went there on sunday...but no one is there..lonely place...if u r going with your partner thn go there and enjoy the moment...the view is also amazing..there is love frame at the entry point and a cafeteria for refreshment ...a one time visit place

In no way this is Honeymoon point. This is just an quantitative addition in the list of Matheran tourist points. The view of hill, valley and mountain isn't pleasing at all, even the place to stand near this so called honeymoon point is very risky without any safety measures. Infact the barren view of this place gives you sadistic feel nothing else. Worst point, and should be definitely avoided.

This point located near the Echo Point on the right side. The name of the point is kept on the ritual of gathering honey in the night of full moon by local villagers.
From this point you can see beautiful valley view. Also you can Louise point from here. Proper blocks path constructed here by local authority to reach the point. You will very calm and refresh at this point if you visit here during the winter or monsoon season.
This point is very isolated, but gives a nice romantic vibe.
You can hear echo here more nicely , because it's quite.
