Matheran Hill Station

4.5
(32233)
Hill station
Matheran Hill Station is a car-free resort located on a wooded mountain plateau near Mumbai, Maharashtra. It's about 90 km from Mumbai and offers activities such as hiking with breathtaking views, riding on the toy train, and visiting Charlotte Lake. The hill station provides a pollution-free environment with fresh air and lush greenery during the rainy season. Visitors are advised to bring appropriate footwear, raincoats in the rainy season, warm clothes in winter, and some cash due to limited network coverage.
Great place to visit and explore. Absolutely! The lush greenery, misty atmosphere, nd that stunning waterfall cascading down the cliff make this place look magical. It feels like the perfect spot for trekking, photography, or just soaking in the beauty of nature. Really love IT ❤️
SUMANT M — Google review
Matheran is one of the most peaceful hill stations I’ve visited. The fact that no vehicles are allowed makes it even more refreshing—no honking, no pollution, just the sound of birds and rustling leaves. Walking through the red mud paths surrounded by lush greenery felt like stepping back in time. Echo Point and Charlotte Lake were my favorites, especially at sunset. I visited Matheran during the monsoon, and it was an unforgettable experience. The forest was lush, waterfalls were everywhere, and clouds literally floated around us. Yes, the muddy trails can be slippery, but the beauty makes it worth it. Carry good shoes and raincoats—it’s a true adventure! My trip to Matheran was wonderful, but travelers should be prepared: a lot of walking, limited mobile network, and basic facilities compared to other tourist spots. But that’s exactly the beauty of it—it forces you to disconnect and soak in nature. If you want peace and simplicity, Matheran won’t disappoint.

Travel Dates: 2nd & 3rd Oct 2025 | Pune to Matheran Trip We started our journey from Pune at 5:00 AM and reached Dasturi Naka by 8:45 AM, with a quick breakfast break at Khopoli. From there, we took the toy train from Aman Lodge at 9:35 AM to Matheran. A word of advice — carrying 1-2 heavy bags is manageable in the toy train, but more than that can be difficult due to limited space in the bogie. Kuli (a porter) are available at parking. They takes your language at hotel directly. If you missed the train Inwould suggest if you have energy and enthusiastic then just follow train track till your hotel. You will surely enjoy that walk. We had pre-booked Hotel Devadkar, which is ideally located right in the heart of the market — directly opposite Matheran railway station. Very convenient! We explored all major points in Matheran without using horses. If you enjoy nature walks and are comfortable walking around 5-6 km a day, you can easily cover all the viewpoints in two days. The scenic trails and peaceful surroundings made it a memorable experience. Highly recommended for nature lovers and walkers!

Matheran is one of those rare places that feels like stepping back in time. Tucked away in Maharashtra’s Western Ghats, it’s Asia’s only automobile-free hill station, which means no honking cars or buzzing bikes — just fresh air, red mud paths, and the sound of nature all around. The journey itself sets the mood. You can either trek up, take a toy train (when it’s running), or hire a horse ride or e-rickshaw once inside. Each path has its own charm, but what makes Matheran truly special are its viewpoints. From Echo Point to Panorama Point and lesser-known gems like Myra Point, every turn opens up to sweeping views of valleys, waterfalls, and endless greenery. During monsoons, the mist rolling over the cliffs makes it even more magical. The vibe here is unhurried and peaceful. You’ll find small local stalls selling hot corn, cutting chai, and pakoras that taste extra good in the cool weather. Walking through the shaded forest trails feels refreshing, and the lack of vehicles makes it an ideal place to just wander without worry. Matheran isn’t about rushing from spot to spot. It’s about slowing down — sitting by a viewpoint, watching the clouds drift, or simply enjoying the earthy smell of the red soil after rain. It’s perfect for couples, families, or even solo travelers looking for a quick break from the chaos of Mumbai or Pune. If you’re looking for a short getaway that combines natural beauty, peace, and old-world charm, Matheran deserves a place on your list. It may not have the luxury of bigger hill stations, but it makes up for it with raw, simple, and soul-soothing experiences.
Nishant K — Google review
Not a relief from the scorching sun of Mumbai. I won't say a must visit hill station place but for people can have a small get away for a day. There are not may shops and they usually open late in the morning. The breakfast points have good Gujarati and South Indian food. There are few restaurants offering nonveg foods. Commute might be an issue. And beware of monkeys 😅
Sipra S — Google review
Matheran is the perfect weekend getaway. The air is so pure because it's completely vehicle-free—a true escape from city pollution! We loved walking the red mud paths and discovering the stunning viewpoints like Louisa Point. A major highlight was seeing all the horses with their wonderfully epic names—it truly added to the old-world charm! A must-visit for nature lovers. Be prepared to walk or enjoy a horse ride!
Mr. V — Google review
If you truly want to experience jungle life, this destination is a hidden gem. In metro cities, life feels like it’s always running — but here, time slows down, and every moment feels magical. During my visit, I was mesmerized by the natural beauty. Trekking through the lush greenery, breathing in the fresh air, and soaking in the peaceful surroundings was an unforgettable experience. The place is free from heavy pollution due to its height above sea level, and since no gasoline vehicles are allowed at the top, everyone must walk — making it feel pure and untouched. The chirping of birds, the cool breeze, and the panoramic views make this place a true paradise for nature lovers. 🔑 Travel & Safety Tip: Always carry water, light snacks, and a small first-aid kit. Travel in groups if possible, and avoid late-night walks in forest areas for safety.
Nijamuddin S — Google review
A beautiful tucked away hill station with its pomp and grandeur marred by pony walas swindling off the rates which led to the temporary closure of the place. Best time to go there is during the monsoons. Winter is also good when we visited the place, but a huge crowd and traffic jam marred the experience. When you reach at the top everything melts away when you have to gorgeous view!

Khandala Point Matheran

4.3
(5199)
Khandala Point is a popular lookout spot in Matheran, offering sweeping views of lush green surroundings and distant landscapes. It is conveniently located near the market area and provides excellent sunrise vistas. Visitors are advised to come prepared with sun protection, water, and proper trekking gear due to the walking distance from the main center. The point also features an attached garden and a play area for kids with local rides. While it offers refreshing experiences, visitors should be cautious of monkey families in the area.
Khandala Point is one of the most popular points in Matheran. It's at a walkable distance from Matheran railway station. The view is amazing and if there aren't too many visitors then it's a calm place to sit and relax. There are monkeys here, they snatch things from people and run, that's something to beware about.
Noel N — Google review
This small point is often bustling with visitors, adding to its lively vibe. Enjoy the atmosphere, but be mindful of the monkeys around. It's a great spot to experience a beautiful sunrise, offering a peaceful start to your day amidst nature's beauty.

Khandala Point is one of the most popular points in Matheran. It's at a walkable distance from Matheran railway station. It's peaceful, clean, and perfect for a quiet nature retreat. Do carry good shoes. A decent spot for nature lovers seeking a peaceful escape. It's a great spot to experience a beautiful sunrise, offering a peaceful start to your day amidst nature's beauty. This point also known as sunrise point. This is very clean and quiet place. It feels like never to come back to your normal life and stay there forever in that blissful environment. Overall Matheran has best view in winter and nice place to relax and chill. Must visit place❤️
Neegar A — Google review
It's truly a must-visit spot. While the monsoon season brings heavy mist that often hides the view, it creates a different kind of magic — the scent of fresh rain and wet earth (mitti) fills the air, adding a sense of calm and freshness. But during summer, the skies are clear, and the panoramic views are breathtaking — making it the perfect time to soak in the natural beauty of this serene point.
Sudipa K — Google review
The beauty of a hill station lies in its tranquility. Surrounded by lush green valleys, dense forests, and snow-capped peaks (depending on the altitude and season), every corner feels like a painting come to life.
Parthavi B — Google review
A Magical Monsoon Getaway! Visited Matheran during the monsoon, and it was absolutely breathtaking. The entire hill station transforms into a lush green paradise with misty trails, cascading waterfalls, and cool, refreshing weather. The toy train ride (when operational) adds a nostalgic charm, and walking along the red mud paths in the rain feels like something out of a movie. What I loved most is that Matheran is an eco-sensitive zone—no cars allowed—so it's peaceful, clean, and perfect for a quiet nature retreat. Do carry good shoes and a raincoat though, as it gets slippery. The panoramic views from places like Panorama Point and Echo Point are surreal with clouds floating around you. Highly recommend visiting during the monsoon season (June to September) for a truly magical experience! 🌧️🌿🌄

Echo Point

4.3
(9378)
Echo Point in Matheran is a popular scenic lookout spot that offers breathtaking views of the mountains, lakes, and valleys. Located about 2.5 km from Matheran Railway Station, it is known for its magnificent panoramas and the echoes that reverberate from the mountains. This clean and pleasant place also boasts a variety of food stalls offering freshly prepared snacks. Nature lovers visiting in October or November can witness a magnificent waterfall from Echo Point.
Me and my family visit October 2024. I really feel like I am in a heaven. It was my first hill station visit. Small but very attractive hill station. You can found here all experiences of hill stations like mountains, waterfall, lush greenery, toy train and chilled weather etc. Echo Point at Matheran, as the name suggested this places is famous for the echoes which will hit back from the hills so don’t miss out to shout your name which will reiterate after you. It is the perfect vantage point to view the mesmerizing peaks of the western ghats. This place has multiple food and shopping stalls. You will have to use horses to travel or walk if you are comfortable as the area is maintained pollution free. I feel it is the best thing of the hill station that it is pollution free.
Neegar A — Google review
Echo Point is a beautiful spot, but the view can be unpredictable. When we first arrived, it was completely covered in clouds and we couldn't see anything. However, we waited a little while, and once the clouds cleared, the actual beauty of the place was revealed. It was well worth the wait. A word of caution: be very careful with your belongings, as monkeys are a common sight and they are not shy about snatching things. Overall, it's a stunning viewpoint, but be prepared for a potential wait for the clouds to clear and keep a close eye on your things.
Janhavi R — Google review
It is peaceful.. just to get there, there are only two options available - one is by walk, another by horseride They can charge you anyhow.. Please consider bargaining The view is worth watching It is vehicle free zone You get lot of oxygen

Beautiful and peaceful place. Scenery is amazing. Surrounded by cool and fresh air and lots and lots of greenery which is very soothing for eyes and heart as well.
Akanksha S — Google review
Matheran’s Echo Point is truly a breathtaking spot that lives up to its name and more. As I walked through the red mud trails surrounded by dense greenery, reaching Echo Point felt like stepping into a serene painting. The view from the edge is absolutely stunning lush valleys stretch endlessly, and on a clear day, you can see layers of the Sahyadri hills stacked like waves. The cool breeze, especially in the morning, is refreshing, and the echo phenomenon is a fun little surprise shouting out into the vastness and hearing your voice bounce back feels almost magical. What made the experience even better was the peaceful atmosphere. Unlike many touristy viewpoints, Echo Point wasn’t too crowded when I visited, and the sound of wind rustling through the trees added to the calmness. I’d definitely recommend going just after sunrise or around sunset for the best views and cooler temperatures. If you’re in Matheran, this spot is a must visit both for its natural beauty and the quiet connection it offers with the landscape around you.
AMAR J — Google review
Nice point, in nature you can hear echo from here. Must visit place to see Chatrapati shivaji maharaj forts from here.
Viraj J — Google review
Echo Point in Matheran is one of the most famous and must-visit spots in the entire hill station, and after visiting it, I can clearly understand why. The journey to Echo Point is a pleasant one — surrounded by greenery, red soil pathways, and that peaceful vibe that Matheran is known for. Once you reach the point, the view opens up beautifully with wide valleys and endless greenery stretching into the distance. The best part, of course, is the unique echo effect. Shout your name or anything loudly, and you’ll hear it bounce back from the hills, which is always fun whether you’re visiting with friends, family, or even kids. During the monsoon, Echo Point becomes even more beautiful. Clouds float around you, the cool breeze adds to the charm, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot tiny waterfalls in the valleys below. It’s one of those places where you can sit for a long time just admiring the natural beauty. The atmosphere is lively as many visitors gather, and the echo effect adds a playful mood. There are small stalls nearby where you can get snacks, tea, or lemon water, making it a nice break spot. The area is usually clean, but since it can get crowded, I’d suggest visiting early in the morning for a quieter experience. If you are in Matheran, Echo Point is truly unmissable. It’s not just about the view but the fun experience of the echo that makes it stand out. A perfect blend of scenic beauty and entertainment!

Lords Point, Matheran

Lords Point in Matheran is a must-visit lookout point offering breathtaking views of the lush valley and a beautiful waterfall. It's just a short walk from Charlotte Lake, making it easily accessible. The best time to visit is during the rainy season when the surroundings are vibrant and green. Don't miss using a telescope for an unobstructed view of the stunning Western Ghats.
Loved this point , must visit in monsoons. If you are missing out those beautiful views just cos u can't trek (like me) do visit this once for that stunning view!! Highly recommended in monsoons lords point and charolette lake it's foggy and heavenly.
Snehal C — Google review
I recently visited Lord Point, just a short walk from Charlotte Lake, and was pleasantly surprised by the panoramic views unfolding before me. From this small yet scenic vantage, I could gaze out over lush green valleys, cascading waterfalls (especially vivid during and after monsoon season), and distant hilltops a calming panorama that left me in awe. The tiled passage up to the point was easy to navigate and felt inviting. Despite being one of the more modest viewpoints in Matheran, Lord Point has its charm. It wasn’t overcrowded when I visited, so I could linger in peaceful solitude, absorbing the scenery and even spotting the occasional wandering monkey. I’d recommend going either right after rains or during monsoon when the greenery is lushest and staying a little past sunset for dramatic skies. Simple, quiet, and undeniably beautiful a serene little escape that’s well worth the visit.
AMAR J — Google review
Lord’s Point is a peaceful place with a lovely view. Totally worth visiting for the calm atmosphere and scenic beauty. However, reaching here is quite difficult as you need to walk a lot or take a horse ride. Best for those who enjoy nature and don’t mind the trek.

Lords Point, Matheran offers a serene and scenic view of the valley—especially beautiful during monsoon with misty surroundings and lush greenery. It's less crowded compared to other points, making it peaceful for photography and quiet time. A great spot to relax and enjoy nature. Moderate walk from the market area. Wear good shoes as the path may be muddy in rains. ✅ Clean ✅ Peaceful ✅ Great valley view 🚫 No food stalls nearby – carry water/snacks

Louisa Point, located 2 kilometers from Matheran's main market, is a popular lookout spot offering panoramic views of the Sahyadri range, Arabian Sea, waterfalls, valleys, and nearby villages. It is a favorite among hikers and photographers due to its majestic vistas of ancient forts like Prabal Fort and Vishalgad.
We visited Matheran in weekend and it was as expected crowded than weekdays. Everything is expensive over there starting from food to horse rides to handicrafts. You will get no network so carry cash with yourself. Try to walk and visit all the points rather than waiting for a horse ride. It's a wholesome experience. You will experience serenity, peace to the fullest. Loved it. A proper one day trip.

Louisa Point, situated in the serene hill station of Matheran, Maharashtra, India, is a popular vantage point offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and majestic mountains of the Western Ghats. Perched at an elevation of approximately 800 meters, it provides a tranquil escape and a feast for the eyes. Named after Lady Louisa, the wife of Lord Elphinstone, this point is a must-visit for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. On a clear day, one can witness the distant forts of Prabal and Vishalgad, and even catch a glimpse of the Mumbai skyline. The lush greenery, especially vibrant during the monsoon season, adds to the charm of the vista. Reaching Louisa Point involves a pleasant walk of about 1.5 kilometers from the main Matheran market, or a scenic horse ride. The journey through the dense forests is an experience in itself. The tranquility and the stunning views make Louisa Point a truly unforgettable spot in Matheran.
TripperHD V — Google review
Louisa Point is almost 1.5 km away from the marketplace and will take around 20 minutes to reach here on foot. If it's a clear sunny day, this place will offer you breathtaking views that will compel you to settle down here for a moment. This is a unique point in Matheran as it offers two different picturesque views. From one point, you can see the sky touching the mountains and a civilisation located far in a valley. If you visit during monsoon, you'll also be captivated by waterfalls. Another view is of Lake Charlotte that looks like a diamond necklace when seen from here. Louisa Point also offers a clear view of Prabal Fort. All these different views are intriguing and one can spend hours gazing at them. We sat there, soaked in the beauty of the place and relishing moments of silence. This place is known as a photographer's paradise in Matheran because it offers panoramic views of mountains, peaks, valleys, lake and waterfalls. In most of the travel portals, blogs and magazines, Matheran has been represented by using Louisa Point's pictures. During the peak season, photo points are a little crowded and sometimes you need to be patient for your view to be ‘people free’, but all your waiting time is worth those beautiful, dreamy and wallpaper pictures. Some people also stay at Louisa Point to watch the sunset.

Very beautiful view point in Matheran. Huge open space for you to sit, relax, spend some time with yourself or family/ friends, absorb the atmosphere (take tons of pictures if you wish to!). On one side you have the beautiful landscape of hills and plateau and on the other side you have a beautiful waterfall! There’s a long fence on the right, however there is a point where the fence is broken and one can just hop over and walk to the edge of the ledge for an adrenaline rush (although not advisable)!

Louisa Point in Matheran is one of the most serene and picturesque viewpoints I’ve ever visited. Known for its panoramic views of the surrounding hills, valleys, and distant plains, it offers a truly refreshing experience for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike. The walk to reach Louisa Point is scenic, with red soil paths, lush greenery, and the occasional sight of local wildlife adding charm to the journey. Once you arrive, the view is absolutely worth it — you can see miles of rolling hills, dense forests, and sometimes even mist floating across the valleys, especially during the monsoon season. What makes Louisa Point special is the calm and peaceful atmosphere. Unlike some of the more crowded points in Matheran, here you can take your time, sit back, and enjoy the beauty of nature without feeling rushed. It’s perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, or for anyone who simply wants to capture some incredible landscape photographs. The cool breeze, the rustling of leaves, and the quiet surroundings make it a rejuvenating experience. A small tip for visitors: carry water, wear comfortable shoes, and try visiting early in the morning or late afternoon for the best views and lighting for photography. Overall, Louisa Point is a hidden gem of Matheran and a must-visit spot for anyone exploring this beautiful hill station.

Sunset Point, Matheran

4.5
(2046)
Sunset Point, also known as Porcupine Point, is a popular fenced-in spot in Matheran that offers breathtaking views of the sun setting over the mountains. It is renowned for its 360-degree vision of the rugged landscapes and serene sunsets. The shape of this point resembles that of a bird and it provides an ideal vantage point to witness the sunset behind the mountains in a burst of oranges and yellows.
Sunset Point in Matheran is known for its breathtaking views, but visiting during the monsoon gave it a unique charm. The cloudy, foggy weather added a soothing atmosphere, as mist enveloped the hills, creating a mystical vibe. Though I couldn’t witness a clear sunset, the experience of the cool breeze and the serene foggy landscape was magical in its own right. It's definitely worth visiting, especially for those who enjoy the peacefulness of nature during the monsoon. The misty hills and calming weather make it a memorable experience.

Located at a significant elevation, the point provides an unobstructed vista of the surrounding valleys and the distant mountain ranges of the Western Ghats. Reaching Sunset Point involves a pleasant walk or a short horse ride from the main Matheran market. The journey itself is scenic, winding through lush greenery. The tranquility of the location, coupled with the breathtaking views, makes it a favorite spot for tourists and locals alike. Its a beautiful place with an amazing view truly worth visiting!.It’s the last viewpoint of the day, and the sunset looks stunning from here. However, a word of caution for visitors: after sunset, there are no lights and very few signboards to guide the way back. The area is surrounded by forest, and it’s easy to lose your way once it gets dark. I was a solo traveller and got stuck there for a while — it was quite risky. There are no animals or other dangers, but the main issue is the lack of lighting and directions. So, don’t go alone after sunset. Visit with someone or leave before it gets dark.

Shabbir Bhai Biryaniwala is a restaurant that lives up to its name, offering a diverse selection of biryani dishes. In addition to their specialty, the menu features an array of North Indian cuisine options, including both vegetarian and meat-based meals. Guests can also indulge in flavorful kebabs and tandoori specialties for a truly distinctive dining experience.
Shabbir Biryani – A Hidden Gem for Biryani Lovers Shabbir Biryani offers an authentic and flavorful biryani experience that is sure to impress. The taste is rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced with well-cooked, tender meat and fragrant rice. The portion sizes are generous, ensuring great value for money. The pricing is reasonable and absolutely worth it for the quality and quantity they offer. However, the restaurant is a bit difficult to locate, so first-time visitors might need to rely on maps or local recommendations. Despite this, the effort is well rewarded with a delightful meal. If you’re a biryani lover, Shabbir Biryani is definitely worth a visit in Matheran.

To reach this place, there is a bit of an uphill walk from Jama Masjid, but it’s worth checking out if you are craving biryani. The biryani is tasty and reasonably priced. Now of course, taste is subjective but it’s definitely worth a try. The place has a dhaba-like vibe, nothing fancy just good food and simple seating. What really stands out though is Shabbir uncle himself, a genuinely kind-hearted person who enjoys serving people. They do offer other items too, but I would say stick to the biryani, it’s their speciality (as the name says).
Basit M — Google review
The restaurant excelled at serving delicious biryani, making it a top choice for non-vegetarian dining. While Chinese cuisine isn't their specialty, the restaurant is good with its delectable Indian and Mughlai offerings, such as biryani and various meat-based dishes.
Tanzim K — Google review
I tried biryani at Shabbir Biryani Hotel in Matheran. The price per plate was ₹170, which is quite high compared to Mumbai, where I usually get better quality biryani for ₹160. The quantity here was very less, and the taste didn’t feel like real biryani — it was more like rice mixed with salan. Overall, not satisfied with the taste or value for money.
Techniqa I — Google review
First of all this hotel is popular for BIRYANI and I must tell you if you have tasted biryani in Mumbai and Hyderabad then its no where near to them. And if you are maharashtrian then its just a fodnicha bhaat with chicken. They don't even bother to keep this place clean. Plates were dirty and so much dust. Chiken kadhai which i tasted was ok. Don't drink butter milk and waste your money.
Hemant T — Google review
Best option for Halal food in Matheran with good taste and great varieties of dishes. The price is also reasonable as per the tourist place. It's mainly well known for the authentic taste of Biryani even at the hill station.

If you are looking for Non Veg - Shabbir Bhai is good, this amazing place is known for serving delicious authentic biryani since 1984. Shabbir bhai is very famous in Matheran and you can definitely eat good non vegetarian food here. In his old age even today the owner Shabbir bhai is still determined to serve his customers with delicious food. I have been eating at this place since childhood everytime we visited Matheran and had the opportunity to know the owner and see the transition over the years but what I can guarantee is that the taste hasn't changed and they still serve very tasty food.

Sadly for my last visit in october we were disappointed Inspite of calling before hand and confirming the time when we reached at 3.30 for lunch, the food they said will take atleast half an hr more There was no one at the counter and kitchen people were half clueless on what is available There were other people already waiting for food from 1 hr I had good food here in the past but as of now This place needs proper maintenance!

Garden View Restaurant is a part of a cluster of dining and shopping options. It stands out as a haven for vegetarians and vegans, offering an array of Chinese, Punjabi, and other Indian dishes. Visitors can expect delicious food with good value for money in a pleasant atmosphere with excellent service. Additionally, the restaurant occasionally hosts events like calligraphy showcases, adding to its unique charm.
One of the Restaurant of Matheran which gives good vibes! Superb Chinese & North Indian Food. We ordered manchow soup, Manchurian Dry both were fantastic. There were few reviews about Pav Bhaji so we ordered that too and it was reasonable good. Sada Dosa was crispy. Buttermilk was okay. They have AC section as well (Though the AC cooling is not adequate considering the room size) However they need to speed-up the cooking process. Each item took about 20mins to get ready probably due to lunch hour rush. I recommend this restuarant.

The ambiance was good. The menu is reasonably priced, and the service was prompt. The quality of the food was good, though the quantity could be improved a bit. This is a pure vegetarian restaurant.

Perfect garden-view restaurant with a peaceful vibe 🌿✨ We ordered Paneer Angara, Paneer Bhurji, Kaju Masala, Tandoori Butter Roti, Dal Tadka, Jeera Rice, Buttermilk, and Masala Papad – and everything turned out just perfect. The masala papad was spicy and mouth-watering, the gravies were rich and flavorful, and the pav bhaji was surprisingly good too. They even serve chaat items, adding more variety to the menu. 🍴😋 What made the experience even better was the pricing – the bill was on the lower side, making it a true value-for-money spot. On top of that, the owner and the staff were extremely polite and cooperative, making us feel at home. 💫 A must-visit if you’re looking for good food, great service, and a calm garden setting. 🌿

Really amazing vegetarian food. The staff is very friendly and service is quick. Food is delicious, what I loved eating here is dal tadka I fell in love with the dal tadka served here also tried Chinese, snacks and gravy everything was good and located right in the heart of main Matheran market. Overall a good experience for family and friends.

They have given a seat for one calligraphy person. That person asks us to follow him on Instagram and, in return, gives our name written in calligraphy. The attitude of this person is very rude and disrespectful. Doesn’t have decency to talk to women. Hotel taste and environment are good. Service is good. The only issue we had is with this person who is desperate for followers on instagram. We returned his calligraphy to him, considering his behavior towards us.

Konkani restaurant
Kokan Katta is a highly recommended restaurant in Matheran that offers delicious and homely Maharashtrian cuisine. The menu includes a variety of options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians, with dishes prepared in local style and served with traditional accompaniments like rice bhakri, papad, and wadi. Visitors can enjoy medium-spicy chicken curry, liver dry, and flavorful fish dishes at reasonable prices.
Just an amazing experience. I loved the food. Bombil fry was just top notch. Prawns were good.

Family run small eatery opposite to the train station. Fast service and big menu promises a lot of surprises. Food is very much average and has immense scope of improvement. Cleanliness doesn't live up to expectation. Overall a touristic trap that does not live up to the hype.

Very bad experience.. Fraud hotel kokan katta.. We ordered papalet thali. Its price was 400 rupees on the menu card, so we ordered it. Then when we got the bill there, we were told that it was not 400 rupees. It was 600 rupees. 600 rupees is very expensive. When the biller asked his waiter, he was told that he had already told the customer the price. But he didn't say anything first. The taste was not even a little good. There is a hotel in the name of Konkan but it does not have even a little taste. If you go there, ask the price carefully.

We ordered chicken masala and they said it wasn't available so they said only egg curry is available. Imagine at 2pm they dont have ghavne, bhakri and chicken curry ready to serve the guests. Then we ordered bombil fry which was very oily and it cost 160bucks for just 2 bombil and you can see the egg curry quantity in the plate for 120bucks clearly which is expensive. Rotis were soft but not warm. Seating is good. Fish was not fresh it was very chewy. Curry was not good too.

We tried Prawns Thali here in Kokan Katta and it was sooo yummy like home made kokani food. We loved their food, so delicious and so tasty. Especially their prawns masala fry was top notch and their Solkadi which is perfect and so soothing. Taste 5/5 Service 5/5 Budget friendly.

We recently visited Matheran with friends and stayed at Hotel Panorama for two days. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. The hotel is beautifully located amidst nature, offering a peaceful and clean atmosphere. The rooms were neat and well-maintained, equipped with all necessary amenities. The staff was extremely polite, helpful, and always ready to assist with a smile – which made our stay even more comfortable. Coming to the food – it was delicious and felt homemade. We especially enjoyed the Gujarati and Punjabi dishes, which were full of flavor and served fresh. The hotel also has a nice swimming pool, garden area, and cozy seating spaces both indoors and outdoors – perfect for relaxing. There is zero wifi connectivity in the rooms , the hotel should have water heaters in every room with 24 hours of hot water , rather than having a boiler with limited timings (3 hours in the morning) .They should have intercomes to reach the hotel desh for any kind of requirement.Hope the management tries to fix the above for better staying experience Overall a decent property

Great trekk, will call it easy. Traile were misleading at some places so please do follow markings marked on the stones if there is multiple ways see the rocks nearby if there is no rock see bottles hanging from trees or cloth tied to branches for the direction. Good trekking shoes recommended and rain coat compulsory.

This trek is test of your endurance specially in summer days. We lost one trail and wasted half hr. (Take left after one open area. Check for red arrows and a ribbon for turn) We started at 7 and it took us 3 hours to reach the main top portion. On left you can go towards Kalavantin Durg View Point. On Right Side you will find ruins on Wada, Ganesh Mandir. Further 1km ahead there are few points that can be covered.
Vinit P — Google review
It's a medium difficult trek. Local people are good and helpful. Carry good shoes and full trackpant/ Jeans, avoid wearing shorts while trekking. You will get a stay option like tents /Rooms. Overall it's a good experience

Beautiful place, but people are very very irresponsible and littering everywhere! Even villagers are throwing trash everywhere! Moderate level trek and the end is too steep. Nearest to Mumbai and worth doing!

Loved it here. The trek was hard. We started the trek at 9 and reached the summit at 1:30. However we were all relaxed and enjoying ourselves. Take your own water bottles for the trek.

Irshalgad Fort is a mountain peak that can be reached by hiking and offers stunning panoramic views. The area features ancient stone ruins of a fortress which adds to the charm of the place. It is recommended to visit during the monsoon season, when the rain enhances its beauty. The climb is moderately challenging up until the base village, but well worth it once you reach the top.
Easy fort to climb, only last patch is a bit moderate level. Have enough water and food with you. The Gumfa is bit tough to identify and to reach as well. Mesmerizing views of Morbe Dam you will get. Really a worthy trekk in monsoon and post monsoon. You can easily complete the trek in 2 hours if you go non stop and come back as well in 1.5 hours

Beautiful one day trek in Chouk, Karjat near Mumbai. To reach here, you can take ST till Chouk and walk till Nanivali or take direct auto to Nanivali. The trek is kinda easy, with a steep incline patch in the start and a rock patch at the end. There a Nedhe at the top (which is now broken) You can enjoy panaromic views of Morbe Dam and surroundings. Remember to take left from Irshalwadi (the village which got destroyed in a landslide) and then ascend from there. Good place for a one day trip.
Ankit P — Google review
Pray for the residents of Irshalwadi. If you plan to go here, search "Irshalwadi Landslide". I have done multiple treks in Maharashtra. One thing is common in all treks. Friendly Villagers living their peaceful life; selling poha, maggie, lemon juice to trekker with smiley face. It is heartbreaking to see the entire village engulfed by landslide and abandoned thereafter. When you reach the top, you see the amazing view of the sahyadris with mountains, waterfalls and greenery all around. Then you look down and see the few houses remaining after the entire village was swept away in landslide. Even though we enjoyed the view, we couldn't stopped thing how we are nothing compared to nature. It is scary that more than 50 people from the village are still missing and possible buried under the landslide. About the trek, I would say it is easy-moderate for trekkers with experience. For comparison, difficulty and risk level is similar to Kalavantin Durg. Most of it is steady ascend. There are some tricky portions; but there are ladders. So it is easily doable even in Monsoon with some caution. Reaching the absolute top(pinnacle) is not possible without ropes. We went only till the saddle portion.
Mahesh B — Google review
Irshalgad trek was full of excitement and thrill — a true test of endurance. But as soon as you reach the top, the panoramic views of the nearby forts and the shimmering Morbe Dam are absolutely breathtaking and ethereal. Steeped in history, Irshalgad served as a strategic watchtower during the reign of the Marathas, offering a commanding view of the surrounding region and acting as a sentinel fort for the mighty Prabalgad.
Vrund P — Google review
As we are regular trekkers, it took us 1.5hrs to reach the top. Starting early is important as 1st hill is bit tough otherwise whole trek is easy. Carry ample amount of water n food.
Vinit P — Google review
The trek is almost 1.5hrs from the parking if you go continuously. There is definitely a chance of getting lost once you reach the plateau halfway, so make sure to shout to the uncle in the middle for help if you feel you're lost. In monsoon the entire path is slippery and definitely watch out for snakes. The view from the top is amazing. Not a lot of history about the fort, it has not fortifications. Just a few water tanks, so it was probably like a watch tower than a fort. You can see Matheran from up there as well.
Shardul L — Google review
Good weekend trek.About 3-4 hours going up and half the time coming down.Part of the trail is a bit tricky to find, from the last abandoned village. Enough drinking water and proper footwear recommended. Please carry your trash back and dispose of it properly.
Senan D — Google review
Good for beginners and for the trekkers who've spent too much time on office chairs that their body has forgotten about climbing. The hike drains most of your stamina in the first hill. Then it shows mercy on you and offers a plain plateau till your heart knows how to pump in rhythm to provide just enough adrenaline so you keep going. One more small climb and you reach the 'almost' destination. From where an easy but slightly dangerous climb starts. You use ladders and ropes to climb the last part and reach the iconic rock frame of Irshalgad. To Sum it up: Approximately 4 hours to go and come back. You have a parking space at the base village and keep your stuff there. The hike is moderately easy. Somewhere in the middle of Mumbai and Pune. Good accessibility by personal vehicle and I've seen a railway station along the way. Please keep water handy but not too much to weigh it up on you. Also bring snacks along. And if you can try buying stuff from people there.

Matheran Stargazing Adventure Camp is a popular destination nestled in the Western Ghat range, offering breathtaking views of valleys and hills. It's an ideal spot for trekking, with a 3-hour trek to reach the hilltop and the option to explore nearby points like Peb Fort. Visitors can also enjoy horse riding, take a ride on the Toy Train, or visit Kadyavarcha Ganpati from Aman Lodge railway track walking towards Neral.
Getting to the points is a great experience. Some of the paths are densely forested, quiet and very peaceful. Alexander point is very close to the Market. The view is awesome and would be best during sunrise or sunset. On the way to the point one of the locals pointed out a mini echo point which was pretty neat, keep an eye out for it.

Best point view... Near by matheran railway station... You can also see the grabbett Plateau in the left side of the point.... Best place for night tent 🎪 without fire.... Tent placing is at your own risk... But it gave a nice night.... But be safe... Don't make camp fire because heavy wind so it can spread.... Enjoy the night life in the hill... Wake up early and see the nature beauty and sunrise on the mountains

We will almost similar view as in Khandala Point. But this is worth visiting and one can cover the entire Matheran in one day. The Main points to visit are Alexander Point, Khandala point,One tree hill point,Louisa Point and Sunset Point. All are attractive during monsoon and before November

Though my pictures are of off season's and also off time's as this point is famous for sunrise view...this is one of the maintenance points in Matheran..if possible try to go here @ time of sunrise ..damn sure you would love it.

The ghodawallas might not bring you to this point because of their nexus, but DO visit this place. It's just a few minutes' walk away from the market. A local guy Sujay Bhosale runs a stall there along with stargazing and overnight camping facilities. Definitely worth the nature trail hike to this place!

Must visit this point when you are in matheran! The view from here is makes you nostalgic. There are two trails from the main market, one takes you to Alexander point and 6 other points that is on left side straight! Where as the other one is on the right hand side which takes you to echo point and 4 other points. Meanwhile you can reach from one point to other From both of the trails. Charlotte lake comes in between. The straight trail on left side is more longer one and the horse riders don't prefer it. You will find very less people follow this trail . Most of the people reach here from Charlotte lake and that really cuts so much distance. I must say visit matheran in the monsoon and it's a heaven of Maharashtra, the beauty of Western ghats. Smallest hill. station .

One of my favourite points in Matheran. It is on the far side where less people visit, but if you like to climb up rocks you get to experience a great view from here also if you want you can trek down the mountain (at your own risk, not advised). You can take a horse ride to this spot, it might take you long if you walk.

It's quite risky in monsoon so everyone should avoid climbing the last point. Views are amazing and has waterfalls while descending from old British route.
Nirmal S — Google review
you can miss it if you want. This is an interesting sightseeing point. And it's amazing to see just a single tree on the hill. nice tourist attraction. One Tree Hill as the name suggests has just one tree on the hill top among all other surroundings nearby which have dense tree & forest cover. One can go near the hill but cannot climb without harness or rope and reach the hill top near the tree. There are much better places in and around Matheran for sight-seeing. Missing this one is advisable. It about 45 minute’s walk from the Matheran railway station on small stones filled roads. Walking is uneven and may prove damaging to the ankles. No vehicles are allowed inside Matheran.

Instead of riding a horse, we trekked for 5 km to reach One Tree hill and it was worth the experience. The path to the tree was a bit challenging but the view and the feeling after reaching that place was amazing. We started early in the morning around 6 so there was no one in the place except us. But during our time of return to the hotel around 9-10 we started seeing groups around that place. So if you want to just sit and enjoy the place, visit early.

Monkey Point

Monkey Point, also known as Sunset Point, is a popular spot in Matheran that offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys. It's named after the playful monkeys that inhabit the area. The point provides a panoramic view of lush green vegetation and an echoing phenomenon where your shout is returned to you. While it can be challenging to reach the top, the breathtaking scenery and sense of achievement make it worthwhile.
Best place to visit in India itself during rainy season and with best views of waterfalls. Can stay over there in hotel nice place to enjoy with family. Don't come in contact with fraudster horse ride people you can cover it by walk.
Priyank P — Google review
Monkeys come in the evening only. Heart Point is better. Best views are a fortnight after monsoon sets in to see waterfalls from here.
Antz J — Google review
Visited this point during my Matheran trip. Although the name is Monkey Point, I couldn't spot any monkeys at this place. We visited this place in the morning before noon. The view of the hills and the sky is really amazing here! There was nobody here so it was a calm place to enjoy the view. If you're walking to this place while having your short trek from Aman Lodge railway station then it's definitely worth waiting here for a while. The horse riding also covers these spots but they cheat you by charging extra money for stopping at this point. Beware of those people trying to convince you to get on a horse to ride till Matheran, they just wanna extract money out of you.

The path to get there is dangerously slippery and mostly unpaved. The steps are a life risk to walk on. The view itself isn't bad though.

It's a great lovely scenic spot for lounging/sitting and taking selfies; we get there about 7Am .We saw no monkeys throughout that period.

A beautiful spot to view the sunset and the valley lying beyond. Overall Matheran trip is a very refreshing and close to nature experience. I personally suggest everyone to make a trip to this hill at least once in your lifetime!

Great view from this point. It is situated very aptly from where one can see beautiful mountain lush green during monsoon. It is the first point recommended to visit during Matheran visit. There is an offbeat trail which leads to the point and thus, it is not as densely crowded during tourist season. From here, one can find a jungle trail, to next view point which is pretty adventurous and passes through forest. The forest trail is mildly adventurous as you may have to climb through/under fallen trees and landslides areas. Not recommended to take the trail during rains and must be taken at your own risk. The forest route directly leads to the next viewpoint. Otherwise, one may take the regular tourist route too. I am attaching an image of the forest trail with this review to get an idea.

Hiking area
Garbett Point, also known as Garbut Point, is a stunning mountain viewpoint near Matheran. It offers breathtaking vistas of the plateau below, encompassing lush green hills and cascading waterfalls on neighboring mountains. This secluded vantage point is about 5 km from Matheran Railway Station and stands at an elevation of approximately 2626 ft above sea level.
I did this trek in monsoons (July). Amazing experience. Breathtaking views of lake and mountain. Greenery all around. Trekking shoes (sturdy) and dri fit clothes are must carry. Raincoat and walking stick will be useful.

One of the greatest locations for families with low to medium levels of difficulty is Garbett Plateau, which is also the ideal time of year to visit from the monsoon to the winter. The journey from the railway track to Garbett Point takes almost an hour, and there is a beautiful view for photographers. Take a water bottle and some snacks because there are not many people shopping there and it is a hidden gem of the beauty of nature. Good for the team. Since there are no proper roads for off-road tracking, appropriate attire and footwear are preferable to standard items. Must make a visit...

It was my first solo trek, It was very good. The view was mesmerising and heavenly. Tips: 1) carry water with you, 2) also some small snacks, 3) wear long sleeves and long pants, 4) you’ll need good hiking boots to descend from the peak, 5) if you going in early morning carry a torch with you, 6) you’ll encounter some leeches, skinks or snakes, so be careful. Don’t pollute the place and carry back the plastic bottle and wrappers with you… All the best happy trekking 👍🏻

Garbett platue is one of the best point for low to medium difficulty tracker family also can go there best time to visit in monsoon to winter Track time is nearly 1 hours from railway track to garbett point and very scenic view there for photo lovers Good with the team because not much people visit there and it's a hidden gem of nature's beauty take water bottle and other snacks because not much Shop there for buy anything. It's a off road tracking so no any proper road there so proper clothing and shoes are better than normal things. Must visit ...

Beautiful view, worth the climb. I suggest you take the long route. See the lake, waterfall and then ascend. Easy to do but not for beginners

Hidden gem in Matheran! Garbett Point offers one of the most stunning and peaceful views in Matheran. Unlike the more crowded points, this one is quieter and gives you uninterrupted panoramic views of the valley and surrounding hills. The best time to visit is during or just after the monsoons — everything is lush green and covered in mist 😍 You can either trek from Dasturi Naka or come via Garbett Plateau if you're into hiking. The trail is scenic and refreshing! 📝 Tip: No shops or stalls nearby, so carry your own water and snacks. Great spot for photos and sunsets 📸 If you're visiting Matheran and love nature, don’t miss Garbett Point!

Great view point, it has a calmness of it's own as well. Can go to Matheran in 30 mins or so from Garbett point as well. It's very windy, and you have to climb it at most places with both your hands and feet if you're under 5.5 like me. Definitely not for someone with acrophobia.
Hritika S — Google review
I went solo here. Very beautiful place, you don't have to worry about anything, locals are very supportive and friendly. Just trek carefully and preserve the environment 🌱

Lookouts
Panorama Point, also known as Sunrise Point, is a remote and popular spot in Matheran that offers breathtaking views of the valley and is especially renowned for its stunning sunrise vistas. Located about 5 km from Matheran Railway Station, it stands out as the farthest viewpoint in Matheran, making it an interesting trek of almost 7.5 kilometers from the marketplace.
Panorama Point in Matheran is truly a hidden gem that lives up to its name. Situated on the northernmost edge of the hill station, it offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the surrounding valleys and hills. What makes this spot special is its peaceful ambiance—far from the touristy chaos of central Matheran. If you're someone who loves nature, solitude, and a bit of hiking, this point is perfect. The early morning view from Panorama Point is spectacular, especially during sunrise. The sky transitions through shades of pink, orange, and gold, casting a magical glow over the Sahyadri ranges. You can see the distant plains, winding rivers, and the peaks of nearby hills. It’s a photographer’s paradise, particularly in the monsoon when the mist rolls in and the lush greenery becomes vibrant. The trek to Panorama Point is around 6–7 km from Matheran Market and is best enjoyed on foot or horseback, as vehicles are not allowed in the eco-sensitive zone. Wear good trekking shoes and carry water, especially if you're walking. In short, Panorama Point is a must-visit if you're in Matheran. Its serenity, scenic beauty, and panoramic views make it worth every step of the journey.

A quiet secluded point. Not crowded like the others. Its a walkable distance from the main market area. Horse operators falsely claim that this place is far and the roads are bad. But the road to this place is actually better than some of the other points! Best time to visit would be sunrise and sunset. Carry your own water as there were no stalls when I visited this place.

It a good point for photoshoot..but fog is a main issue during monsoon

Panorama Point, Matheran – A Peaceful Gem with Stunning Views Panorama Point truly lives up to its name, the views are absolutely breathtaking and stretch endlessly across the valleys and hills of Matheran. It’s one of the quieter spots on the hill, perfect if you’re looking to escape the crowds and enjoy nature at its best. From the Dasturi car park, simply walk through and look for the pathway leading to Panorama Point. The walk takes about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on your pace, and is quite pleasant with shaded stretches and glimpses of the surrounding forest. The climb is gradual and rewarding once you reach the top. What makes this spot extra special is that there are no food stalls or vendors at the point, just peace, fresh air, and panoramic views. It’s the perfect place to sit quietly, watch the sunrise or sunset, and take in the beauty of the Western Ghats without any distractions. Tips: - Carry water since there are no stalls at the point. - Wear comfortable shoes. - Early morning or evening is the best time to visit for soft light and cool weather. A serene and scenic viewpoint, peaceful, clean, and truly panoramic. Worth every step of the hike.

Top & the most beautiful point of matheran. Sunrise or sunset you can catch any. 2.5 kms from dastur naka parking, thorough well built pathway with concrete blocks & side stone walls. Picturesque & vicinity. Wear shades & good sports shoes. Monkey menace. Tripod/selfie sticks must. 360° view of surrounding cities from above. PLEASE DON'T LITTER.

It’s not crowded like other points, which makes the experience feel more personal and peaceful. The cool breeze, and the sheer silence made it feel like time had paused. We didn’t spot any stalls nearby, so carrying water and snacks was a good call. If you’re up for a bit of adventure and want to witness nature’s quiet spectacle, Panorama Point is a must-visit. Just don’t fall for the horse operators insisting it’s too far to walk you’ll miss the joy of the journey

The view from here is breathtaking. Please visit here. We can go here by walk from the parking site. Book horse ride only if you want , don't listen to the horse operators, they insist you to take horse ride by saying panorama point of far away and you cannot walk to it.

🌄 Panorama Point in Matheran truly lives up to its name — it offers a stunning 360° view of the Sahyadri hills, valleys, and distant forts. Best known as a sunrise spot, the play of colours in the sky makes it magical. Unlike the more crowded points in Matheran, this one feels peaceful and less commercialized, perfect for nature lovers. Be ready for a short trek or horse ride to reach it, and carry water/snacks as facilities are minimal. The walk itself is refreshing, though during monsoon it can get slippery. Morning visits are most rewarding, with cool breeze, mist, and serene vibes.
