Matheran is one of the most peaceful hill stations I’ve visited. The fact that no vehicles are allowed makes it even more refreshing—no honking, no pollution, just the sound of birds and rustling leaves. Walking through the red mud paths surrounded by lush greenery felt like stepping back in time. Echo Point and Charlotte Lake were my favorites, especially at sunset. I visited Matheran during the monsoon, and it was an unforgettable experience. The forest was lush, waterfalls were everywhere, and clouds literally floated around us. Yes, the muddy trails can be slippery, but the beauty makes it worth it. Carry good shoes and raincoats—it’s a true adventure! My trip to Matheran was wonderful, but travelers should be prepared: a lot of walking, limited mobile network, and basic facilities compared to other tourist spots. But that’s exactly the beauty of it—it forces you to disconnect and soak in nature. If you want peace and simplicity, Matheran won’t disappoint.

Travel Dates: 2nd & 3rd Oct 2025 | Pune to Matheran Trip We started our journey from Pune at 5:00 AM and reached Dasturi Naka by 8:45 AM, with a quick breakfast break at Khopoli. From there, we took the toy train from Aman Lodge at 9:35 AM to Matheran. A word of advice — carrying 1-2 heavy bags is manageable in the toy train, but more than that can be difficult due to limited space in the bogie. Kuli (a porter) are available at parking. They takes your language at hotel directly. If you missed the train Inwould suggest if you have energy and enthusiastic then just follow train track till your hotel. You will surely enjoy that walk. We had pre-booked Hotel Devadkar, which is ideally located right in the heart of the market — directly opposite Matheran railway station. Very convenient! We explored all major points in Matheran without using horses. If you enjoy nature walks and are comfortable walking around 5-6 km a day, you can easily cover all the viewpoints in two days. The scenic trails and peaceful surroundings made it a memorable experience. Highly recommended for nature lovers and walkers!

It’s about slowing down — sitting by a viewpoint, watching the clouds drift, or simply enjoying the earthy smell of the red soil after rain. It’s perfect for couples, families, or even solo travelers looking for a quick break from the chaos of Mumbai or Pune. Not a relief from the scorching sun of Mumbai. I won't say a must visit hill station place but for people can have a small get away for a day. There are not may shops and they usually open late in the morning. The breakfast points have good Gujarati and South Indian food. There are few restaurants offering nonveg foods. Commute might be an issue. And beware of monkeys 😅

A beautiful tucked away hill station with its pomp and grandeur marred by pony walas swindling off the rates which led to the temporary closure of the place. Best time to go there is during the monsoons. Winter is also good when we visited the place, but a huge crowd and traffic jam marred the experience. When you reach at the top everything melts away when you have to gorgeous view!

This point also known as sunrise point. This is very clean and quiet place. It feels like never to come back to your normal life and stay there forever in that blissful environment. It's truly a must-visit spot. The first point of Matheran that would make you enjoy the most scenic beauty of green mountains. We had clicked many pics here and it made us explore more of the matheran. It's like a demo to the whole of the matheran. I would suggest you visit this point once.

Echo Point is a beautiful spot, but the view can be unpredictable. When we first arrived, it was completely covered in clouds and we couldn't see anything. However, we waited a little while, and once the clouds cleared, the actual beauty of the place was revealed. It was well worth the wait. A word of caution: be very careful with your belongings, as monkeys are a common sight and they are not shy about snatching things. Overall, it's a stunning viewpoint, but be prepared for a potential wait for the clouds to clear and keep a close eye on your things.

The view from the edge is absolutely stunning lush valleys stretch endlessly, and on a clear day, you can see layers of the Sahyadri hills stacked like waves. The cool breeze, especially in the morning, is refreshing, and the echo phenomenon is a fun little surprise shouting out into the vastness and hearing your voice bounce back feels almost magical. What made the experience even better was the peaceful atmosphere. Unlike many touristy viewpoints, Echo Point wasn’t too crowded when I visited, and the sound of wind rustling through the trees added to the calmness. I’d definitely recommend going just after sunrise or around sunset for the best views and cooler temperatures. If you’re in Matheran, this spot is a must visit both for its natural beauty and the quiet connection it offers with the landscape around you.

I recently visited Lord Point, just a short walk from Charlotte Lake, and was pleasantly surprised by the panoramic views unfolding before me. From this small yet scenic vantage, I could gaze out over lush green valleys, cascading waterfalls (especially vivid during and after monsoon season), and distant hilltops a calming panorama that left me in awe. The tiled passage up to the point was easy to navigate and felt inviting. Despite being one of the more modest viewpoints in Matheran, Lord Point has its charm. It wasn’t overcrowded when I visited, so I could linger in peaceful solitude, absorbing the scenery and even spotting the occasional wandering monkey. I’d recommend going either right after rains or during monsoon when the greenery is lushest and staying a little past sunset for dramatic skies. Simple, quiet, and undeniably beautiful a serene little escape that’s well worth the visit.

Lord’s Point is a peaceful place with a lovely view. Totally worth visiting for the calm atmosphere and scenic beauty. However, reaching here is quite difficult as you need to walk a lot or take a horse ride. Best for those who enjoy nature and don’t mind the trek.

Very beautiful view point in Matheran. Huge open space for you to sit, relax, spend some time with yourself or family/ friends, absorb the atmosphere (take tons of pictures if you wish to!). On one side you have the beautiful landscape of hills and plateau and on the other side you have a beautiful waterfall! There’s a long fence on the right, however there is a point where the fence is broken and one can just hop over and walk to the edge of the ledge for an adrenaline rush (although not advisable)!

Its a beautiful place with an amazing view truly worth visiting!.It’s the last viewpoint of the day, and the sunset looks stunning from here. However, a word of caution for visitors: after sunset, there are no lights and very few signboards to guide the way back. The area is surrounded by forest, and it’s easy to lose your way once it gets dark. I was a solo traveller and got stuck there for a while — it was quite risky. There are no animals or other dangers, but the main issue is the lack of lighting and directions. So, don’t go alone after sunset. Visit with someone or leave before it gets dark.

To reach this place, there is a bit of an uphill walk from Jama Masjid, but it’s worth checking out if you are craving biryani. The biryani is tasty and reasonably priced. Now of course, taste is subjective but it’s definitely worth a try. The place has a dhaba-like vibe, nothing fancy just good food and simple seating. What really stands out though is Shabbir uncle himself, a genuinely kind-hearted person who enjoys serving people. They do offer other items too, but I would say stick to the biryani, it’s their speciality (as the name says).

The restaurant excelled at serving delicious biryani, making it a top choice for non-vegetarian dining. While Chinese cuisine isn't their specialty, the restaurant is good with its delectable Indian and Mughlai offerings, such as biryani and various meat-based dishes.

I tried biryani at Shabbir Biryani Hotel in Matheran. The price per plate was ₹170, which is quite high compared to Mumbai, where I usually get better quality biryani for ₹160. The quantity here was very less, and the taste didn’t feel like real biryani — it was more like rice mixed with salan. Overall, not satisfied with the taste or value for money.

First of all this hotel is popular for BIRYANI and I must tell you if you have tasted biryani in Mumbai and Hyderabad then its no where near to them. And if you are maharashtrian then its just a fodnicha bhaat with chicken. They don't even bother to keep this place clean. Plates were dirty and so much dust. Chiken kadhai which i tasted was ok. Don't drink butter milk and waste your money.

Best option for Halal food in Matheran with good taste and great varieties of dishes. The price is also reasonable as per the tourist place. It's mainly well known for the authentic taste of Biryani even at the hill station.

If you are looking for Non Veg - Shabbir Bhai is good, this amazing place is known for serving delicious authentic biryani since 1984. Shabbir bhai is very famous in Matheran and you can definitely eat good non vegetarian food here. In his old age even today the owner Shabbir bhai is still determined to serve his customers with delicious food. I have been eating at this place since childhood everytime we visited Matheran and had the opportunity to know the owner and see the transition over the years but what I can guarantee is that the taste hasn't changed and they still serve very tasty food.

Sadly for my last visit in october we were disappointed Inspite of calling before hand and confirming the time when we reached at 3.30 for lunch, the food they said will take atleast half an hr more There was no one at the counter and kitchen people were half clueless on what is available There were other people already waiting for food from 1 hr I had good food here in the past but as of now This place needs proper maintenance!

The ambiance was good. The menu is reasonably priced, and the service was prompt. The quality of the food was good, though the quantity could be improved a bit. This is a pure vegetarian restaurant.

The masala papad was spicy and mouth-watering, the gravies were rich and flavorful, and the pav bhaji was surprisingly good too. They even serve chaat items, adding more variety to the menu. 🍴😋 What made the experience even better was the pricing – the bill was on the lower side, making it a true value-for-money spot. On top of that, the owner and the staff were extremely polite and cooperative, making us feel at home. 💫 A must-visit if you’re looking for good food, great service, and a calm garden setting. 🌿

Food is delicious, what I loved eating here is dal tadka I fell in love with the dal tadka served here also tried Chinese, snacks and gravy everything was good and located right in the heart of main Matheran market. Overall a good experience for family and friends.

They have given a seat for one calligraphy person. That person asks us to follow him on Instagram and, in return, gives our name written in calligraphy. The attitude of this person is very rude and disrespectful. Doesn’t have decency to talk to women. Hotel taste and environment are good. Service is good. The only issue we had is with this person who is desperate for followers on instagram. We returned his calligraphy to him, considering his behavior towards us.

If anybody wants to have authentic taste of konkani food in matheran then please visit these "konkan katta" restaurant. Authentic konkani taste. And specially solkadhi which is very soothing. We tried prawns thali which was very tasty and budget friendly. Loved it.

We ordered chicken malvani it was tasty, also we ordered vade which was freshly prepared & served. Rates are also reasonable for chicken items & service is also good. Must visit place for homely kokan style food in matheran. Solkadi is also must try as it tastes good.

Family run small eatery opposite to the train station. Fast service and big menu promises a lot of surprises. Food is very much average and has immense scope of improvement. Cleanliness doesn't live up to expectation. Overall a touristic trap that does not live up to the hype.

Very bad experience.. Fraud hotel kokan katta.. We ordered papalet thali. Its price was 400 rupees on the menu card, so we ordered it. Then when we got the bill there, we were told that it was not 400 rupees. It was 600 rupees. 600 rupees is very expensive. When the biller asked his waiter, he was told that he had already told the customer the price. But he didn't say anything first. The taste was not even a little good. There is a hotel in the name of Konkan but it does not have even a little taste. If you go there, ask the price carefully.

We ordered chicken masala and they said it wasn't available so they said only egg curry is available. Imagine at 2pm they dont have ghavne, bhakri and chicken curry ready to serve the guests. Then we ordered bombil fry which was very oily and it cost 160bucks for just 2 bombil and you can see the egg curry quantity in the plate for 120bucks clearly which is expensive. Rotis were soft but not warm. Seating is good. Fish was not fresh it was very chewy. Curry was not good too.

We tried Prawns Thali here in Kokan Katta and it was sooo yummy like home made kokani food. We loved their food, so delicious and so tasty. Especially their prawns masala fry was top notch and their Solkadi which is perfect and so soothing. Taste 5/5 Service 5/5 Budget friendly.

We recently visited Matheran with friends and stayed at Hotel Panorama for two days. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. The hotel is beautifully located amidst nature, offering a peaceful and clean atmosphere. The rooms were neat and well-maintained, equipped with all necessary amenities. The staff was extremely polite, helpful, and always ready to assist with a smile – which made our stay even more comfortable. Coming to the food – it was delicious and felt homemade. We especially enjoyed the Gujarati and Punjabi dishes, which were full of flavor and served fresh. The hotel also has a nice swimming pool, garden area, and cozy seating spaces both indoors and outdoors – perfect for relaxing. The peaceful environment in the evenings made our stay even more special. It’s an ideal place for a getaway with friends or family. We stayed for 2 days and enjoyed every moment. Hotel Panorama is definitely a great choice in terms of rooms, service, and location. Highly Recommended!

I have stayed here with my family for 1 night. It’s an amazing resort especially for families. I really loved their food and also have a good hospitality. The rooms are very clean. If you’re looking for a pure veg resort with family then must go. Their food, rooms, hospitality all are 10/10.

We recently stayed at Hotel Panorama, Matheran, for a daydays and had a wonderful experience. Surrounded by nature, the hotel offers a peaceful and clean atmosphere. The rooms were neat and well-maintained with all amenities, though the one we stayed in was just okay. The staff was polite, helpful, and always welcoming – especially Babu uncle, who was really warm and nice. The food was delicious, it gives homemade comfort With a swimming pool, garden, and cozy seating areas, it’s perfect for relaxing. Evenings were especially peaceful, making it an ideal getaway with friends or family. Overall, Hotel Panorama is a great choice for its service, food, and location.

Their package is with food. We told them that we want to only stay , owner said our tarriff is with food only. Only accomodation is not available. So if u r looking out for only accomodation this place is not perfect for you. Owner is least bothered in doing business. Better avoid such resorts.

There is zero wifi connectivity in the rooms , the hotel should have water heaters in every room with 24 hours of hot water , rather than having a boiler with limited timings (3 hours in the morning) .They should have intercomes to reach the hotel desh for any kind of requirement.Hope the management tries to fix the above for better staying experience Overall a decent property

Its is too worth it to stay in panorama hotel and food is very good and service is also very good raju is my uncle asking what we tell they make all is very good you want to stay here

Good facility, great food quality and helpful staff. Market is at walkable distance. Visited Matheran again in Oct 25 with family.Stayed in Hotel Panorama. Like last time, had a wonderful experience and stay. Coperative and helpful staff. Food was excellent thank you to Raju bhai maharaj.
