Arena
Event venue
VELTINS-Arena, constructed in 2001, is a futuristic and visually striking soccer stadium that serves as the home ground for FC Schalke 04. The venue boasts a retractable roof system, making it suitable for various weather conditions. Additionally, it features a movable pitch that can be adjusted to accommodate football matches or musical concerts. Visitors can also explore the club museum within the stadium.
Nice stadium, lots of food and drinks stands, lots of fan shops, easy access. Great atmosphere at Schalke04's game.
Ilau A — Google review
This stadium is big enough for concerts but sadly enough not to help that many people. We had a very good experience in the last concert of Robbie Williams, the sound , service, and toilets were very clean. Everyone gets well checked before entering the stadium and there was no waiting line(we were kind of late) and there were still free parking spaces. The concert app advised us to use public transport and park out of the city but because of traffic that day we were forced to park at the stadium itself which made it a very unpleasant experience in the end. Food was nice and they have vegan/vegetarian options. Getting in the parking lot isn't fast enough because of traffic lights that aren't going on fast and getting out is another story. We had to wait more than 2,5h to get out of the concert and that happened because traffic became less at 1:00am. Except that the road you had to walk to the parking lot was full with people and for the first time I saw a walking traffic where people would walk so slow because was busy and there was no direction on other options to leave the stadium (at least not very clear). So my advice here is to park far from the city and walk/public transport so you'll know what time you want to be home on time.
Green S — Google review
Top venue for concerts too - went to see Bruce Springsteen and everything was very well organised. More bathrooms are needed - as an improvement point. They only think about men and football matches, but for other events, needs to be more inclusive also for kids and women.

One of the best football stadiums I've been to. Well organized and competent. Really good Currywurst & Pommes! Good sized portion, fair price, served quickly. Good seats with a good view.

We went for the PUR and Friends concert. It was awesome. Affordable drinks and snacks too.

I recently caught Iron Maiden at Veltins Arena and it was an incredible experience. This venue truly lives up to its reputation as a massive arena, perfectly capable of accommodating a huge crowd for such a high-energy event. The atmosphere inside was absolutely electric, and the layout offered great views making it a fantastic setting for a concert. Highly recommended!
Skulema N — Google review
Great game! The arena was easy to get to, and the atmosphere was solid. Beer was reasonably priced at €5 for 0.5L, plus a €2 deposit. Overall, a fun experience!
Baran Ö — Google review
The stadium was truly impressive, with an incredible atmosphere that made for an unforgettable experience at The Eras Tour in Gelsenkirchen. The venue itself is an architectural marvel, offering comfortable seating and fantastic views of the stage from all angles. The energy in the crowd was electric, with Swifties from around the world coming together to enjoy an extraordinary show. Facilities were well-maintained, with clean restrooms, although additional women’s restrooms would have been helpful given the crowd size. A few more friendly faces among the kiosk staff could have added to the experience, but overall, the event was exceptionally well-handled. The staff and security team did an outstanding job, ensuring everyone’s safety throughout the night. 🙏🏼

Specialty Museums
Nestled in the heart of Bochum, the German Mining Museum stands as a testament to the rich history and technological advancements of Germany's mining industry. As the largest mining museum globally, it attracts over 365,000 visitors each year. The museum features an impressive 71.4-metre headframe that was relocated from a Dortmund mine, complete with a viewing platform offering stunning views. Adventurous souls can explore 2.
Really interesting museum! The underground section was the highlight – very well-maintained, safe, and gives you a real feel of what mining was like. You can see a lot of mining technology and learn about its history in Germany. Everything is well organized and informative. The staff speaks English, making the experience accessible for international visitors. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Bochum!
Tadeas “ — Google review
If you are in or have been in the mining industry or want to learn more about the mining industry and what keeps our lights on and our lives as rich as they are, this is a must visit. The underground tour is informative and immersive in it detail of the transformation of the world of underground mining from its humble hand dug beginning to it’s automated and mechanical current reality. The museum above ground with its interactive models and displays is incredibly well done.
Johnny K — Google review
Great to have more understanding of mining history, machineries and equipment in Germany. Also, understand the largest mining district, Ruhr Area and population development from 300,000 in 1820 to 5.7 million in 1961. Very informative and worth to spend several hours.
Cordelia H — Google review
An excellent museum with an amazing recreation of a mine that takes you through the ages of mining. Once you've finished the mine tour there is a huge museum and it can take you 4 to 5 hours to get through it all. There are documentaries to watch, interactive exhibits, an amazing cafe, and clean toilets throughout the museum. The Mining Museum is setup for German and English speaking visitors.
Retro B — Google review
A very unique and interesting experience. The visitor's mine tour was fun and informative. Would definitely recommend visiting this museum. The tour was only available in german but we were offered booklets with english explanations about all the equipments. The audio tour wasn't available when we went. The exhibition on hard coal and miners livelihood was very well done. Learnt a lot about miners and how they contributed to this region of germany.
Kalpha R — Google review
Great place to visit. The guides were amazing and spoke in German and English. Gave a real sense of what mining was like when the mine was in operation. Second time I visited. I highly recommend it.
Chris P — Google review
Interesting museum about the coal mining and the society around in Germany. Don‘t miss a guided tour through the show mine, it gives you a feeling of being a miner in an authentic surrounding.
Uwe D — Google review
The visit starts with a lengthy exploration of a coal mine under the museum. There are hundreds (?) of metres of tunnels on two levels open to the visitor. The displays are extensive and excellent. Equipment from different periods is presented. After the tunnels, a lift then takes the visitor to the top of the winch tower for great views, finally returning to the "normal" part of the museum. Fascinating, world class. Well worth a visit.

Conference & Convention Centers
Nestled in the heart of Bochum's Stahlhausen district, Jahrhunderthalle stands as a remarkable testament to industrial history and cultural evolution. Originally constructed in 1902 for the Düsseldorf Industrial and Commercial Exhibition, this expansive venue has undergone several transformations over the years. Once serving as a blower machine hall for steel production, it now boasts an impressive area of 8,900 square meters dedicated to hosting a diverse array of events.
Historic site, stunning place for theatre and music and even amazing for the occasional dance party or rave. This 19th century manufacturing facility was once the German Expo Pavilion in Paris and was transported back to Bochum, today it serves as a multi purpose place for events. Located in a nice park with a beautiful bridge and a lot of industrial flair this place isn't to be missed.
Jörg L — Google review
Part of the industrial heritage tour in NRW (Ruhrgebied) and this building belongs to the same heritage of many sites still existing. I think it is very wise to preserve coal and steel factories and mines as much as possible, as it tells a story and shows history why and how it was done, also the good, bad and ugly parts. Also reuse of parts in/of buildings and factories for creativity innovation and culture makes it an unique experience.

Die Jahrhunderthalle ist wirklich sehr schön, sie bieten auch immer sehr schöne Veranstaltungen an auf jedenfall Besuchen. PROJECTS JAHRHUNDERTHALLE BOCHUM MAIN VENUE FOR THE RUHRTRIENNALE The former Gas Power Centre of the cast steel company „Bochumer Verein für Bergbau und Gußstahlfabrikation“, an industrial listed building from the year 1903, was reconstructed at the beginning of the millennium to a concert hall and extended by a large foyer and a cloakroom building. The historic construction could be sensitively toughened by means of continually cambered cables. The installation of a structural heating screed provided intelligent strengthening for the basement slabs. The new building construction of steel was abutted on an old external wall and suspended via the toughened cables on the existing construction. The extension of this protected, sophisticated structure with almost fully utilised components required an extremely cautious distribution of the additional forces in the old structure. DIETGER WEISCHEDE COMPANY FOUNDER Thanks to the ingenious structural framework planning, only a few parts of the old structure had to be strengthened. This resulted not only in a very economical solution, but also appealed especially because of the barely recognisable intrusion in the old, listed basic structure of the building. The Jahrhunderthalle Bochum is the main venue for the international cultural festival „Ruhrtriennale“ since the completion of the reconstruction in 2003 CLIENT LEG NORDRHEIN-WESTFALEN ARCHITECT PETZINKA PINK ARCHITEKTEN, DÜSSELDORF LOCATION BOCHUM, GERMANY COMPLETION 2003 AWARDS DEUTSCHER STAHLBAUPREIS 2004 - AUSZEICHNUNG BALTHASAR NEUMANNPREIS 2004 - ENGERE WAHL BDA AUSZEICHNUNG GUTER BAUTEN 2004

Great location to buy everything
Babu N — Google review
My comments relate to the shopping centre itself and not to specific retail outlets - and in a few words - scruffy, chaotic , poorly designed and looks like a throwback to the 1960’s! No thought at all seems to have been given to car access from the main road at busy times and apart from periods of warm dry weather it is certainly not an “all- weather” shopping locale!! A place to avoid in the future!

Parkschlösschen am Stadtpark is a charming restaurant located in Bochum, offering a delightful dining experience. The establishment features a cozy terrace and an elegant Jugendstil design. With its prime location across from the beautifully designed Stadt Park Bochum, patrons can enjoy outdoor seating when the weather is pleasant. Everything seems to drown in pepper sauce! Good sauce but still. Doesn't take card either, but makes the most delicious strudel I've ever tasted
Nert — Google review
This was our first time at this establishment and the experience was quite mediocre. The Schnitzel was good, but the roasted potatoes that came included were extremely unseasoned and prepared very strangely. Would not recommend it. Also the indoor dining space had an unenjoyable amount of insects both crawling and flying. Not a pleasant eating experience.
Richard — Google review
We ordered items from lunch menu - Sauce on the Frikadellen was too salty, The red salad sauce on the sides was poor. Gebackene Seelachsfilet was not evenly fried or baked. Schnitzel from the ala carte menu was npt evenly fried. Overall quality or taste was below average. Very friendly service and nice place.

This has a lovely location - right across the nicely designed Stadt Park Bochum. We enjoy sitting out on the patio and treating ourselves to some of our favorites. They have lovely salads and the pork with peppercorn sauce is unbeatable. Another favorite is their fresh tomato soup. Prices are very reasonable for the top quality of food. Lastly, service is always pleasant and fast. Just make a reservation if you plan to dine on Friday or Saturday - they are popular and with good reason!

Mexican restaurant
Here's my paraphrased paragraph: For those who want to continue enjoying themselves without going too far after the Moltkemarkt, I recommend visiting TequilaRia Bochum, a Mexican restaurant located just a short distance away. They offer delicious Mexican cuisine and a wide variety of cocktails, including an impressive selection of Mescal and Tequila. While it may be slightly off the beaten path, TequilaRia is known for its great food and drink options.
1000000/10!!!!!! What a fabulous place with delicious food, cosy atmosphere and amazing decorations. We had a chili con carne for starter, chicken burrito for main and chocolate lava cake for dessert and everything was exceptional!! It was a Friday night so we got margaritas for 5€ which is just the steal of the century. 100% recommend! 😍
Flóra M — Google review
The absolute worst Mexican restaurant I have been to in my life. 15,99€ for a "huitlacoche" enchilada which was just regular mushrooms. Enchiladas should be in a sauce. These were hard, dry, and flavorless. It was served with a small and extremely dry serving of tasteless rice and boring lettuce. The chilaquiles were just nachos. The Paloma was not a Paloma. Clearly no one here has ever had Mexican food before. The waitress and waiter managed to get my drink order wrong twice after originally forgetting my drink. There was no apology. She just said I could get something different next time. Our waitress also left for the day without saying anything. They have a Brugal rum (Dominican Republic) sign on the wall, but do not sell it. False advertising in general, horrible food, and bad service. Absolutely not worth the money. I will never be back and don't recommend.
R C — Google review
We ordered via UberEats and we had to wait 2 hours (they have their own delivery service) Besides the fact that the Patata Brava is just wedges (that were quite burned) and the taco with "Pollo and mole" came without "mole", I think the main concern is that the salad was not washed: you can see some creatures in it.
Gabriela M — Google review
When I moved to Bochum I promised I’d find the best margarita they have to offer and Tequileria has it. We had the Birria nachos - brilliant. Empanadas were a bit tasteless but we ordered some mango salsa to go with them which was satisfactory. We split the pulled pork tacos with rice and salad which is quite a big portion so we didn’t really get to the rice and salad. As it was a celebration, we also got the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream which was truly the star of the show.
Rayne C — Google review
I've been there more than 3 times already and although the food is better than in the most german restaurants that try not to sell only döner, the portions were smaller every time we visited, and that's quite unfortunate.
Agata R — Google review
Plenty of authentic options, vegetarian and vegan too. The staff is knowledgeable and can recommend options. There's a brre garden and a cosy indoor space. Service was fast and friendly. Decor is a little charged but that's a matter of taste.
Pauline D — Google review
If you want to wait for your food a solid 1.5 hours and also have to remind the waiter what is your order over and over again because he has forgotten, please come here. Food was average, coctails were nice. Not worth the wait.

Trattoria Momo is a modern Italian restaurant offering elevated antipasti, pasta, seafood, and meat dishes along with a selection of Italian wines. Despite the trend of fast food and delivery apps, this restaurant keeps the tradition of fine Italian dining alive. Visitors have praised the restaurant for its late opening hours, pleasant ambiance, and exceptional Italian cuisine that surpasses typical offerings found elsewhere. The menu boasts a variety of delicious options and even includes craft beers and wines from Italy.
We found table without reservation but I recommend make reservation in advance. Everything was delicious ( we tried tuna pizza and paccheri alla Puttanesca), service was perfect. Just I found prices are little bit high but I do not know average prices in that area therefore giving 5 stars.

Amazing find. We went here on a whim for a late dinner, because that's one of the few restaurants in the area that are open late, and were surprised to find a really nice ambiance and spectacularly good Italian food. The menu offers a lot of variety, certainly a few levels above the standard, run-off-the-mill Italian fare you find in many other Italian restaurants around here. The service was a little bit slow, but otherwise very pleasant and attentive. We'll most definitely be coming back!

Incredibly good Italian cuisine, perfect place for dinner before the Starlight Express show! Extremely tasty dishes, with craft beers and wines from Italy. The friendly owner of Trattoria Momo came out and greeted us and our kids warmly. The food was so delicious. There were several selections of craft beer direct from Tuscany - and as a beer lover and brewer myself, these were a highlight of the meal. They expedited the dishes when the show time approached, and we made it on time. I couldn't be happier with Trattoria Momo!

The menu features a variety of vegan dishes. Guests have praised the impressive ambiance, live DJ music, and attentive service.
Great ambiance, the overall decoration and mood of the restaurant is very inviting, especially for an evening meal in a group. Burgers were quite good! Also enjoyed one of the homemade lemonades. Thank you :)

19,90€ All You Can Eat Spareribs were pretty tasty. They were soft as they were supposed to be, although they were a little too much fat. The salad was a little portion, but delicious. They have also many vegan options available on the menu. Service was not that fast, let’s say. I can’t imagine how they manage it when it is fully booked. But still: it’s a fancy restaurant to enjoy a dinner for a small rather then a big group of people :)

I'm really surprised how good the steak was. The prices r to be expected for a restaurant. The size of the desert was a little too tiny for me and The Prise but it did taste exquisite. The atmosphere is also very cozy, I very much recommend.
Lusy S — Google review
Nice ambience, friendly, sometimes a bit confused service. They offer nice craft beers but expect you to drink them from a bottle. When I asked for a glass, I was told they can only give me a small water glass. Why?! Steaks are great, food has nice presentation, interesting variety of starters and side dishes, colorful menu however, right now it is being changed so let's see what they come up with. Unfortunately amazing truffel sauce which they used to offer was replaced by some new one with no taste and structure. It was explained to me that the good one was too expensive to make. I would rather have the chance to get a better product any pay a bit more for it. That is a real pity. Overall a nice place to go, but lots of room for improvement.

Overall, nice atmosphere and good vibes in general. The staff does sometimes come off as confused but they were very friendly. The food was nicely decorated and the burgers we're good. I would not recommend coming here for the steaks per se. One of our orders was not fully medium rare which had to be brought back onto the grill. In terms of steaks overall: they tasted okay. Note: They charge you for compound butter for 3 Euros. If you plan on ordering maybe consider sharing a butter with another steak eater. Same goes for other sauces. Afterwards, we shared a few desserts. The New York cheesecake was delicious, it is quite heavy so it's best eaten when shared! I was not personally a big fan of the red velvet cake (it is huge by the way! So I recommend sharing that with one or two other people) All in all, would I come back? Maybe not.

A nice place for relaxing, walking, jogging in round around the river. There is kids playing ground. In summer it’s nice place to relax and grilling allowed at selected places. Additionally there are enough free car parking available here.

If you're seeking a unique and enjoyable matchday atmosphere, consider checking out Bochum, who recently earned promotion to the Bundesliga. Tickets for their matches start at an affordable price of 13 units of currency. The Ruhrstadion at Castroper Strasse is widely regarded as one of Germany's finest stadiums, exemplifying the essence of pure football.
The one and only Ruhrstadion at Castroper Straße ist one of the finest and best regarded stadiums in all of Germany. Built in the 70s it's THE example of a 100% football stadium. If you like to watch "real" football, enjoying Beer and Bratwurst, the home of the VFL Bochum is the place. After the Game it just takes a 15 minute walk to famous Bermuda Dreieck

Went here for a pre season friendly Bochum v Luton Town, very easy to get to 2 stops on the tram from opposite the main train station, easy access into the stadium helpful security/stewards, good beer and food inside the stadium, good view

I was here for a conference dinner at the lounge. The venue was good and the staff were friendly. It was a vegan/vegetarian buffet for over 400 people so I understand the quality in this setting might not be amazing. However, the food was so sooo bad. It was so much worse than what they would have served at a bad university mensa. It was wildly expensive per head for what we received- Perhaps the cost was mainly for the location. I would not recommend anyone to organise a buffet conference dinner here.
Nikki M — Google review
Compact stadium. I was in away fans section . Partially restricted viewing because of security net, but was okay. Access is by stairs, but not too steep.
James K — Google review
A decent enough stadium for a second tier club, though it’s quite dated in places. A nightmare to get in and out of the guest blocks though, especially when security had locked vital access gates when they were struggling to deal with the numbers.

I have attended 2 games here in the last year, both times were a great experience. 12 euro for a ticket in the terracing behind the goals (bought online and printed at home) Fans were excellent at both games with constant chanting and singing throughout. Beer and food were great too and not to expensive. Short tram ride from the station (which is free with your match ticket) or a half hour walk, with plenty of beer stops on route. Can't wait to get back to another game.

I recently dined at L'Osteria Bochum for a farewell dinner with my sisters. We were a large group of 14 people and enjoyed the tasty food, especially the generously sized pizzas. I would like to commend our server, Chris, for his exceptional service. Despite the challenge of serving a non-German speaking group, he was kind, friendly, and patient.
It’s my first time to Germany and I visited you guys and the waitress I think her name was Natalia And she is so sweet and she served us so nicely I would literally come back to this place only for her service She was fast and very welcoming🤍

I have been here a few times for lunch when shopping and always had a good experience as it is a nice airy light place with good food and good atmosphere. What's great during the day doesnt apply in the evening. To be fair, we went on a Sunday night after xmas and it was very busy. We had a reservation..luckily..otherwise there wouldn't be a chance to get a seat. The place was super busy, which makes it very noisy. Staff struggled to keep up with the crowd. While we were seated fairly quickly, food took a long time to arrive. I had one of the pizzas on the specials menu, others chose to mix and match from the menu. Unfortunately the pizza of my sister wasn't cooked through, so that the dough (although thin) was raw and she couldn't eat more than half of her pizza. My brother's was fine but I had some raw dough areas as well. I presume with the high turnaround they just took them out too soon. It also took forever to be able to pay the bill. It was clear that staff were stressed and some had arguments with each other. I still give it 4 stars as I have good experience during lunch and that's what I'd return for.
Annette D — Google review
The food is amazing, however the place is too busy and the waiters working here can have some overload which can lead for some late arrivals of the food. The desert and the drinks were amazing!

I ate here with a large group of people a few days ago. The pizza is huge and very good, pasta also tastes good. The staff was very kind during the busy evening.
Seres B — Google review
I really like the restaurant L'Osteria, but it was my first time at this branch and we won’t go here again because we waited more than 45 minutes for two pizzas. We were really frustrated and it ruined our whole travel plan.

Italian resturant, if you are not German and so not understand German language, the menu is available in English too. Check with the waiter, most of them speak English and can help you get what you like on the table. If and to get the experience of how a pizza is prepared, get into the resturant and you see the open kitchen and you will find it amazing.

It's a great Italian restaurant. We were a group of 20, and we were well looked after. It was very busy for a Tuesday evening but we didn't have to wait too long for food. The pizzas were huge, and the pasta looked great. Everyone enjoyed it and I'd definately go back.

The special feature of the restaurant Zum Stadion Grill, as its name suggests, is that it serves freshly grilled American classics. Whether it's a selection of high-quality steaks and cuts or burgers and fries, both meat lovers and vegetarians will find something to enjoy here. The eatery also offers a great atmosphere reminiscent of the Ruhrpott region. The owner has a cool demeanor but can be sharp-tongued in typical Ruhrpot fashion.

(Translated by Google) A typical, classic Ruhr region chip shop, just like the old days. The prices are reasonable, the currywurst was okay, the portion size was good, and the mayo sauce was just as it should be. The place has a lot of flair, but it's certainly out of date. It's nice that something like this still exists. (Original) Typische klassische Ruhrgebietspommesbude wie man sie noch von früher kennt. (Translated by Google) The snack bar at the stadium in Bochum definitely has cult status. Especially as a football fan, you should visit at least once – the atmosphere just fits and somehow belongs there. Of course, you can tell that the place has been around for a few years, but let's be honest: This isn't a 5-star restaurant in the city center, but rather a place with heart and history. I had a portion of fries with currywurst, and I was really satisfied with the taste – nicely seasoned, properly cooked, simply delicious. The only downside: The portion could have been a bit larger for my taste. I'm deducting a star for that. There's plenty of parking thanks to the adjacent stadium, and the service was friendly and attentive during my visit – quite different from what some other reviews suggest. I also think the prices are fair. Conclusion: If you're looking for a real football feeling and are in the mood for a real currywurst, this is the place for you.

Restaurant
Redzep Ferati El Toro Steakhaus offers a diverse selection of beef and dishes to cater to different meat-eaters' preferences, including German, Argentinian, and Turkish cuisines. They also have a good range of beers and wines available. The service is quick, although the costs align with the high-quality food. One minor improvement could be made to their crepes, which were slightly overcooked and lacking ice-cream options.
We othered the mixed grill plate for two. It comes with pairing sauces and both taste great. I'm surprised by the variety of meats and all taste amazing. The quantity was very generous and hard to finish by 2 people so we took the rest home. Lovely service too! I'm intolerant to dairy and everything was dairy-free.

Nestled in a charming corner of Dortmund, Pizzeria La Piccola is a delightful find that feels more like a cozy getaway than just another eatery. The family-run establishment exudes genuine hospitality, with staff treating each other and guests like old friends.

In the small restaurant the overall atmosphere was really pleasant and reminded more of a short vacation than a pizzeria. The prices are very cheap. For us one of the best pizzerias in NRW. Performing arts theater
The Starlight Express theatre is a modern venue designed specifically for the 1980s musical of the same name, featuring actors on roller skates. Despite its moderate success in English-speaking countries, the musical has found popularity in Germany, particularly in Bochum where it has attracted 16 million admissions over thirty years. The theater showcases spectacular shows using cutting-edge techniques such as drones and projectors to create grand performances.
Love this show, the energy and personality of all of the characters, the pace and excitement of the skating, and of course the music. I'm 53, and my daughter is 16, and we both loved it. From the second you walk in the door, it's an immersive experience.

Don't miss this one! Even though it's in German, it was quite a spectacular show. We read the English synopsis in advance and had a good sense of what was going on. Really enjoyable. We did the combo with the Moxy Hotel which worked out well.

I have a question for the show leaders, or the directors or the participants or the actors of this show!!!!! At the beginning of the show you showed the russian flag, at the end of the show one of the actors of the show, when several countries and their flags were presented, left again with the russian flag, he did not unfurl it, but only the blind did not see that it was again the russian flag, just turn it around. Don't you know about the sanctions against the occupier country, the aggressor russia? For the fourth year Ukraine has been fighting for its freedom with russia, for the fourth year russia has been killing Ukrainians on their own land. Germany supports Ukraine, Germany is against the aggression of russia!!!!!! So why was the russian flag twice on your wonderful show????? Do you support russia???? For me, as a Ukrainian, it was a shock!!!!!!

Musical is narrated by a boy, who imagines that his trains come alive and are having a championship race. Greaseball (diesel engine)the arrogant champion, Electra ( the new electric engine) and Rusty, the old steam engine who wants to impress Pearl, a new train car! A MUST SEE!!!!! Also great for children!

Zoos & Aquariums
The well-known animal sanctuary houses a variety of wildlife species from different parts of the world, including flamingos and seals. Additionally, its high-tech aquarium features impressive exhibits with a focus on fossils. Despite its compact size, the park provides an excellent opportunity for families with young children to explore nature and learn about animals up close. However, it is worth noting that some cages were empty during the visit. Improvements could be made to indicate when certain animals are not present in the park or aquarium.
Brilliant place to visit with children. The zoo is rather small but we had a great time. We stayed from 3-7pm until they closed. My daughter enjoyed the playground very much and she enjoyed watching the zoo keeper feeding different animals, which she was constantly doing throughout the day 😂 And we had dinner at the restaurant next to the zoo. You literally sit by the flamingos 🦩 very pleasant experience.

Nice place. They sure take care of the animals there. The reception staff speaks only German, but we found all of the information online. The toilets are very dirty. They are close to the birds' cages and really smell bad miles away.

It is really a nice place for a family to spend 2-3 fun hours. It is not an exciting zoo, but it is good for children between 3 to 7 and their parents to have a lovely day there. It has penguin, seal, and several cute and tiny animals that worth to see and take photos with them. Also, it has several tiny aquarium within its fossilium part which we like it
Mohsen A — Google review
A mini but, in my opinion, perfectly designed Zoo. Well-kept vivariums and enclosures. The animals also show that they are given great care. They all look better than in many larger zoos. You will be able to walk around everything without rushing for an hour. You can also eat typical fast food inside. There are plenty of parking spaces nearby - free and paid. In my opinion, ticket prices are low and perfect in relation to the quality. I recommend.
Bartosz M — Google review
For Monday 11:00 it was pretty full. 8 euros the ticket for adults. It's not really big, we needed about an hour to walk all of it. I think it's 3 km. Many cute animals to see and something to eat with good prices. We ate 2 bratwurst with bread and one waffel and we paid 9 euros. The only think i didn't like it's that the animals in water where not clean. And in the aquarium too.

Inside is much bigger than it looks from the outside! Many different species from all over the world. It was a good to spend a day closer to nature. One note: there were about 20% of cages that were empty, or at least the animal was not inside. It would be better if such place were marked that the fish or animal is not inside

Planetarium Bochum is a state-of-the-art domed astronomy center featuring the advanced Velvet-FullDome-Projection system, making it one of the most sophisticated planetariums globally. With a 20-meter diameter dome and high-definition shows, visitors can embark on mesmerizing journeys through the solar system, distant galaxies, and alien planets. The circular corridor hosts complementary exhibitions related to the current shows.
A great place to bring future star Gazers, They have kids shows, for kids starting from the ages of 4, my kids 4 and 9 loved it, the show incorporated star constellations, so there was something there for everyone, with lots of information , we will visit again I want to see what the other shows for older kids are like, at the moment (August 2022) masks still need to be worn inside, also as a small note the one kids show we saw had slightly older CGI, but the kids really enjoyed it, i have seen from the websire that each show is different, but the information is well brought over for the kids and we had 2 very happy kids when we left

Expected more. It is basically a domed cinema. No much if exhibit. I certainley recommend booking in advance as I did not do that and did not get to entet to the show due to fullness of the planitarium.I would say that it probably deserve more than this rating should I had the chance to see the show.

We went to the Planetarium Bochum with our kid for the first time and all of us had a blast. We had been there before, even as kids ourselves. It’s always nice to get a perspective on science and possible futures. The staff there is always so friendly and the prices are fair for what is shown. Definitely read the descriptions of the program or watch the trailers and decide what best fits your interest. Also if you don’t want to wait, buy tickets online. Full recommendation.

Our 2nd time here. Enjoyable for adults and kids. Highly recommended

Very nice. Here there are lot of during the day. Ticket prices and information about the shows are available on their website. The show which I watched is really interesting. Also several children are at the show and they are really interesting to watch the show. The projector and the screen is very big and good clarity picture. It projects all over the top sealing of the planetarium. Tickets can also buy at the counter for these shows. Other than that there are some interesting articles in the corrider such as several pictures, an astronaut suit model where people can take the pictures, an old projector, and other interesting things are there. A small cafe and WC are also available here.

Park
Bochum Park, established in 1876, was designed to resemble an English garden and has since become a beloved spot for locals. The park offers ample green space for picnics, leisurely strolls, and jogging. Visitors can enjoy the boating pond, zoo, duck pond, and a playground for children. In the summer months, open-air concerts contribute to the lively ambiance of the park.
So peaceful and lovely. The park is bigger than I imagined.

Austrian restaurant
Nestled in the charming Bochum Tierpark, Restaurant Franz Ferdinand offers a delightful taste of Austria without the need for a passport. This elegant eatery boasts a lovely park terrace where you can savor traditional dishes like Wiener Schnitzel and Tafelspitz, alongside an impressive selection of Austrian wines. The ambiance reflects its historical roots, making it feel like stepping back in time to an authentic Beisl—a cozy Austrian tavern.
We tried booking online but did not find any tables available for the same, went and asked in person and they managed to reserve a table for us. The service is great. Both waiters that spoke to us were extremely friendly and very professional. The food was extremely good. Some options were available in a gluten free version, which turned out to be the best gluten free Schnitzel i have ever had. The food was authentic and the portions were almost too big ( not for my partner though, he ate all the leftovers and loved every single dish).
Esra A — Google review
Super friendly service and tasty food, they might need a bit of time to serve deserts so make sure to order them 20 minutes in advance. Good portion for the price. We expected more from the pumpkin tartar but overall was tasty!
Duaa Q — Google review
The restaurant Franz Ferdinand, in Bochum, must be listed in the top ten best restaurants in Bochum. The restaurant is a savory dish after another. For the appetizer, I highly recommend the fig and goat cheese salad, it’s beautifully presented and the taste is purely satisfying. My husband ordered the garlic shrimp salad and he seemed to enjoy it. They serve you their homemade bread and red beet spread. My husband ordered their Kaiserschnitzle served with slices of roasted and fried potatoes and a well dressed salad. I ordered the lamb Wienerschnitzel served with a creamy vinegar potato salad and a green salad. The appetizers and the main course were delicious, so we thought just order one dessert for both of us to share. The dessert also didn’t disappoint us, it was tasty but my husband and I were very full so we forcefully finished the dessert. One thing, I must say is that people are allowed to smoke outside and that’s very frustrating to be around when you want to enjoy a nice meal. It would be nice if they prohibited smoking outside as well.

Lopas R — Google review
Overhyped by a lot. Mostly, there are no decent restaurants in Bochum, so this is a hip place. In any larger city, they would die. Poor service, arrogant, really think they are something when they are mostly an average restaurant. The food is decent but not more. Attitude is mostly the problem. If you go to actual top places you will be disappointed. If you are a country pumpkin or dont usually dine in top-notch places, you will love it.

Today I had a superb vegan 3-course dinner here. Respect to the kitchen staff! €35,- including two drinks is very reasonable. The courses were well balanced, good size portions and really well prepared. Not just any kitchen can improvise a well balanced vegan dinner. Friendly and quick serving. I'm very happy I went here and I certainly will eat here again.

Very pleasant place with kind waiters (some of them italian). Moderate choices in menu, soup was good (just small portion). Pizza was great, very tasty. Deserts really good. Coffee briliant. Really good italian restaurant. They accept card payments.

Lovely Italian restaurant, friendly family run, the staff are excellent and very attentive. Food was lovely and reasonably priced. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

We have visited Carmello over 2 years ago and we still think about it as one of the best restaurants we ever visited. We have ordered pizzas, which quickly became our top ever eaten pizzas. As we later discovered even visiting Italy couldn't dethrone Carmello's pizza from the first place. The house wine was delicious as was sorbet with limoncello. The serving portions were big and we were happy that we have hotel nearby after seeing the glasses. The staff was very friendly despite some minor issues with language (not every server was speaking English). We felt taken care of as guests from the start to the very end of our visit. We would highly recommend visiting Carmelo and trying it for yourself. The Bochum isn't very high on our travel list but we know that if the opportunity arrive we would return to Caramelo as fast as we could. I would rate it 100000/5 but the Google don't let me :)

Modern European restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant Ehrenfeld district, Zum Grünen Gaul stands out as a delightful culinary gem. This restaurant embraces its surroundings by sourcing fresh ingredients from local producers, ensuring that every dish bursts with quality and flavor. Diners can indulge in hearty soups, satisfying main courses, and delectable desserts that showcase a modern twist on traditional German Hausmannskost. The ambiance at Zum Grünen Gaul is both cozy and contemporary, making it an inviting spot for gatherings or intimate dinners.
Easy to find. Wheelchair accessible. We made a reservation for 10 people two days before and it was no problem. Drinks was served quickly after arrival. Starters were served in a timely manner and there was a pleasant break between starter and main course. The food was great, all of the meals were tasty. I can recommend the tartar as a starter. Wine was poured by the waiter into our glasses during the meals and breaks. FYI be aware that their opening hours a bit unusual so make sure to check this. Overall highly recommended.

Best place in the entire city for drinks. Best beer, best barkeepers and they’re honestly communicative as well. That’s what one wants in a bar. It's a great place to take your friend and family. They have several exhibits covering Savannah, Australia, south east Asia etc. The green houses are climate controlled and every one of them are different. They are meticulously maintenaned by the botanists in the university. There is a nice cafeteria if you need a break; a lot to see. All the trees and plants are labeled for your convenience. I did not see a guided tour as such.

We enjoyed being there, we found pepper and cactus gardens the most impressive. There are many plants to see. Chinese garden is well decorated and we saw fish in this garden. Parking place and entrance are free, it is worth seeing there.

Lovely little oasis of calm. Great for a nice walk with lots to see. The Chinese garden is beautiful. The three themed (rain forest, desert, savanna) hot houses are well laid out and planted. Good access although could be difficult in parts for wheel chair users as some of the ramps are overgrown.

Our lab moved during my PhD from another university to the RUB. When I was at the RUB for the first time to see our labs, I was shocked at how the RUB looked from the outside. But now, almost one year later, I am really happy to be here. In comparison to my old university, the science department is really big, which allows me access to many instruments and has a lot of interesting options for the lectures I have to take. I also really like the food options. The quality is much better than at my old university. And with Rote Bete, Mensa, and Q-West, there is always something to my taste. As I am a coffee lover, I also really love the Edward's. But what I like most about the RUB are the people. It's so nice to see so many diverse people from different countries learning and working together <3

(Translated by Google) There was a grilled plate with tzatziki, fries, and salad, and a gyro plate with fries, tzatziki, and salad. The salad dressing was quite sour. My tzatziki was very salty—too salty, actually. The gyro was very tender and tasty. The fries were okay. Unfortunately, it was very loud in the restaurant, but this wasn't due to the customers, but rather the staff, who were talking loudly. It was very distracting. Unfortunately, we had a wobbly table—it needs to be fixed. What's not nice is that the cutlery is in a container at the table, and you have to take it out yourself. You risk touching other people's hands.

(Translated by Google) Nice Greek grill with table service. I had a taxi plate, which I really enjoyed, and I thought the portion for €10.90 was quite large. I'll be happy to stop by again if I'm in the area 👍😋🇬🇷 (Original) Schöner Griechischer Grillimbiss mit Service am Platz. Ich hatte einen Taxiteller der mir sehr gut geschmeckt hat und die Portion für 10,90€ fand ich auch recht groß. Ich komme gerne wieder vorbei, wenn ich in der Nähe bin 👍😋🇬🇷

(Translated by Google) They make the dough and skewers themselves!!! Freshly baked bread and juicy stacked meat. Legend - so delicious! 😍And the employees are also as sweet and lovely as if they were on vacation in Greece. Always here on business trips. It also looks nice to sit there, very comfortably furnished. (Original) Die machen Teig und Spieß selber!!! Frisch gebackenes Brot und saftig gestapeltes Fleisch. Legende - so lecker! 😍Und die Mitarbeiter sind dazu auch noch voll suess und lieb wie im Griechenland Urlaub. Auf Dienstreise immer hier. Sieht auch nett zum sitzen da aus, sehr gemütlich eingerichtet.

Restaurant
Nestled in a picturesque setting, Borgböhmer's Waldesruh has beautifully bounced back after the devastating fire of 2010. This charming establishment, run by brothers Heino and Gerd Borgböhmer, offers a delightful blend of modern elegance with rustic touches. Guests can choose from various inviting spaces like the cozy Kamin-Lounge or the elegant Smaragd-Salon, each providing stunning views of the surrounding valley.
Nice restaurant, good service, clean, delicious lunch, cake and dinner, not cheap but also not expensive. Beautiful location with several rooms and a big balcony. A Mini golf area is close, the forest called " Weitmarer Holz" and a former observatory as well. All-in-all very good for celebrations but also to have a break. I suggest to reservate a table.

(Translated by Google) This was our first time here, and it was a real treat. The manageable, yet not overly extensive menu caters to all tastes and was very satisfying. Both the redfish and the wild boar sauerbraten, along with their respective side dishes, were delicious. The service was very attentive, friendly, and relaxed; the atmosphere and location of the restaurant, with its large outdoor terrace overlooking the greenery, rounded off the positive impression. All in all, a successful restaurant visit with good value for money.

The food was fantastic, and when the weather is good, there are plenty of opportunities to take great photos outside. I'm already looking forward to the next wedding at your venue.

(Translated by Google) We were lucky enough to be able to celebrate our wedding at Borgböhmer's Waldesruh in March. We were completely satisfied. The service was very good, everything was taken care of. The food was also very good. The vegetarian guests and one guest with a food allergy were also taken into account without further ado and sufficient alternatives were offered. Many thanks again to Mr. Borgböhmer and the entire team!
